- 0:00Speaker 1: We will forge a society that is color blind and
- 0:04Speaker 1: merit based. Well here on the one Leg Up Network,
- 0:08Speaker 1: it's about four fifteen Eastern. And I hope you enjoyed
- 0:11Speaker 1: my little soliloquy and conversation about seeing this owl and
- 0:15Speaker 1: the wisdom that it might bring to this podcast for
- 0:18Speaker 1: twenty twenty five. And I want to ask you this
- 0:23Speaker 1: is what's happening at about five o'clock today, Wednesday, January
- 0:28Speaker 1: twenty second, wise or not? See here's the deal. As
- 0:34Speaker 1: someone who has a physical disability and works for you know,
- 0:42Speaker 1: everything every day and works to make this podcast content
- 0:48Speaker 1: driven about of adaptability, accessibility, and accountability. Is what the
- 0:57Speaker 1: Trumble administration today doing Wise? Because about forty five minutes
- 1:04Speaker 1: from now of this recording, the offices of agencies you
- 1:12Speaker 1: know responsible for DEI portion of that agency are going home.
- 1:20Speaker 1: I want to get you what the USA today wrote
- 1:23Speaker 1: because this is a major deal to me, maybe not
- 1:30Speaker 1: to you, but to me. See, because federal worker is
- 1:34Speaker 1: being placed on leave by close of business today, including
- 1:44Speaker 1: a template email of the Federal Workforce or them to
- 1:46Speaker 1: report any effort to disguise diversity programs. Now, people get
- 1:49Speaker 1: spooked when they say DEI and accessibility officers will be
- 1:53Speaker 1: closed Wednesday, and I get that too. When I hear
- 1:56Speaker 1: about accessibility, I wonder if that means people disabilities will
- 2:01Speaker 1: not have that representation in these agencies. But I also know,
- 2:07Speaker 1: as a taxpayer and someone who wants this country merit based,
- 2:14Speaker 1: it's a good thing that the DEI craze is going away,
- 2:21Speaker 1: because it's one thing to promote based on merit, it's
- 2:26Speaker 1: another thing to fill a quota. I think, specifically, American's
- 2:30Speaker 1: disabilities jiuan be hired based on merit, not based on
- 2:37Speaker 1: whether they're disabled or not, to fill a disabled quota
- 2:40Speaker 1: within the FBI, within the CIA, within any government agency,
- 2:48Speaker 1: or any private workforce. I mean, wouldn't you want if
- 2:53Speaker 1: you were the parent or sibling of someone disability to
- 2:57Speaker 1: be hired because they earned that damn jazz, because they
- 3:02Speaker 1: I hate to use the word overcame, but they overcame
- 3:04Speaker 1: their disability and worked for that job. Wouldn't that be
- 3:08Speaker 1: a better solution than here you go. You may not
- 3:12Speaker 1: have any experience in this field, but because you're disabled,
- 3:15Speaker 1: we're giving you the job. And that's where this country
- 3:19Speaker 1: has been now. I've talked about coach Marcus Freeman who's
- 3:23Speaker 1: in a hell of a job with Notre Dame. I
- 3:26Speaker 1: know they had a disappointing Monday night loss. It was
- 3:29Speaker 1: hard fought though, but you know what he kept saying
- 3:31Speaker 1: that whole time, I am focusing on winning because of
- 3:37Speaker 1: my team, not because of color of my skin, basically,
- 3:41Speaker 1: and every reporter time after time said, you know, you're
- 3:44Speaker 1: the first black coach to do this, and first black
- 3:47Speaker 1: coach to be in the National title game as a
- 3:49Speaker 1: head coach. He didn't want to hear any of it.
- 3:52Speaker 1: And I respect that because he was focused on the
- 3:56Speaker 1: character of not only himself, but of the team. And
- 4:00Speaker 1: that's why they got to the National title game, because
- 4:04Speaker 1: he was focused on the game, not what he looked like.
- 4:12Speaker 1: And so can we just end all of the AEI
- 4:17Speaker 1: quota based nonsense and say, all right, you want the job,
- 4:23Speaker 1: earn it. You want to be employed by the CIA,
- 4:28Speaker 1: by the FBI, by the Secret Service, really by any
- 4:33Speaker 1: government agent you were in that job. And that's what
- 4:38Speaker 1: it has to come down to. So everybody's nervous about
- 4:41Speaker 1: this whole thing ending. Oh my god, it's closing at
- 4:44Speaker 1: five o'clock Eastern. Maybe it's for the better, and maybe
- 4:53Speaker 1: we can rebuild the accessibility offices of these agencies to
- 4:59Speaker 1: not just a cop imn eight people with disabilities to work,
- 5:03Speaker 1: but encourage them to earn their job or earn a
- 5:10Speaker 1: job within the government and tell them, hey, we're not
- 5:13Speaker 1: going to hire you to fill a quota. We're going
- 5:15Speaker 1: to hire you because we know that you are smart.
- 5:18Speaker 1: I've done this podcast now for eleven years, since twenty fourteen,
- 5:25Speaker 1: and I've never really wanted to. I know the name
- 5:27Speaker 1: is one leg Up, but that's just because I work
- 5:32Speaker 1: to have one leg up on life. I don't let
- 5:34Speaker 1: it define who I am. And anybody who's upset by
- 5:38Speaker 1: this is saying we should let people be defined by
- 5:41Speaker 1: their disability, the color of their skin, what race, what minority,
- 5:45Speaker 1: what gender. Well, let's just look at the Seattle Kraken,
- 5:52Speaker 1: for instance. Let's look at Jessica Campbell. She didn't earn
- 5:57Speaker 1: that job because she's a female. She earned it because
- 6:01Speaker 1: she works hard at that game. She loves so much hockey.
- 6:05Speaker 1: She was then actual player. The Kraken didn't just hire
- 6:09Speaker 1: her to make some barrier breaking thing. They hired her
- 6:12Speaker 1: because she's smart behind the bench. That's another example of
- 6:17Speaker 1: someone who's not letting her gender define who she is,
- 6:22Speaker 1: but she works at her craft, which has gotten her
- 6:26Speaker 1: to the Seattle Kraken. I just want you to know
- 6:31Speaker 1: that I am praying that the close of these offices
- 6:35Speaker 1: does mean it is merit based. I hope it means
- 6:40Speaker 1: the disabled community is not shut out from working with
- 6:43Speaker 1: the government, but rather encouraged to do it based on merit.
- 6:48Speaker 1: That's all we're asking for is and what we should
- 6:52Speaker 1: be asking for. It's not just give me a job
- 6:56Speaker 1: because I have a disability, but give me the job
- 6:58Speaker 1: because not only do I have a disability, but I
- 6:59Speaker 1: can think I can be I can help you find
- 7:03Speaker 1: any solution you need within this agency. I can help
- 7:08Speaker 1: you have one leg up despite what you may think.
- 7:13Speaker 1: That's the kind of attitude I want to see with
- 7:16Speaker 1: the close of the DEI offices and those people who
- 7:21Speaker 1: are being fired from these agencies, I pray that they
- 7:26Speaker 1: get a different job, a better maybe a private job.
- 7:30Speaker 1: But let's not move further into the quota world, but
- 7:37Speaker 1: further into the merit based world. That really was the
- 7:43Speaker 1: foundation for this country. We earned our independence because we
- 7:50Speaker 1: fought for it. People earned their jobs because they fight
- 7:53Speaker 1: for it. Let's make that the case in Washington as well,
- 7:58Speaker 1: and I think President Trump will effective five o'clock this
- 8:02Speaker 1: evening in d C.
