- 0:30Speaker 2: Doing great? Hey?
- 0:32Speaker 1: What points did you think? Okay? This is over during
- 0:37Speaker 1: the game on Sunday night.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Oh well, with any time, Patrick mahomes out there. I
- 0:43Speaker 2: don't know if you feel super confident.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Okay.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Now, once they started racking up and you're heading into
- 0:48Speaker 2: half with that huge lead, and Kansas City didn't have
- 0:52Speaker 2: any answers for the four man rush from Philly. Yeah,
- 0:57Speaker 2: by the second quarter you knew they had to do
- 0:59Speaker 2: so thing to turn things around, and they weren't even close.
- 1:03Speaker 2: So it was kind of eye opening, I think for
- 1:07Speaker 2: everybody to see the way the game played out, But
- 1:10Speaker 2: it also emphasizes the importance of the trenches in the
- 1:14Speaker 2: game that has expanded as much as it has and
- 1:17Speaker 2: featured these huge playmakers. If you can't protect him, if
- 1:21Speaker 2: you can't protect your quarterback long enough to create opportunities,
- 1:26Speaker 2: it doesn't make a whole lot of difference.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Eagles d line was absolutely the difference. What was your
- 1:30Speaker 1: impression watching Kellen Moore's offense?
- 1:35Speaker 2: But all year long, I've been impressed with the fact
- 1:39Speaker 2: that he was creating opportunities. One, I think they have
- 1:43Speaker 2: the best offensive line in football. Two, they have the
- 1:46Speaker 2: best running back, if not the best top two running
- 1:49Speaker 2: back in all of National Football League. And he was
- 1:55Speaker 2: able to kind of mix in opportunities to highlight what
- 1:58Speaker 2: Jalen does really well without putting him in difficult situations.
- 2:04Speaker 2: So that played itself out the entire playoffs and obviously
- 2:09Speaker 2: in the Super Bowl yesterday. That highlights the way that
- 2:14Speaker 2: you can scheme up defenses and utilize the talents that
- 2:20Speaker 2: you have on offense, which you know they certainly have
- 2:23Speaker 2: riches across the board there.
- 2:26Speaker 1: So that's kind of a follow up. John say, it's
- 2:29Speaker 1: so impressive to score forty in the Super Bowl and
- 2:32Speaker 1: fifty five in the NFC Championship Game. But I look
- 2:35Speaker 1: at it, go yeah, but they had, as you just said,
- 2:37Speaker 1: the best offensive line in football. You had an incredible
- 2:40Speaker 1: one two punch of receiver Dallas godd At a tight
- 2:42Speaker 1: end got Saquon. So how much of the Eagles success
- 2:45Speaker 1: do we attribute to Kellen Moore? How much is I
- 2:48Speaker 1: mean that talent which is just incredible.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Well, I think anytime you have as much talent as
- 2:55Speaker 2: Philly does, it'll make every offensive coordinator look good. But
- 2:59Speaker 2: I do think it's a factor. We've seen talented teams
- 3:04Speaker 2: that are underachieving, and that certainly wasn't the case for Philly.
- 3:08Speaker 2: I think Kellen did a great job of highlighting players
- 3:12Speaker 2: strength and utilizing them to their fullest. Just because you've
- 3:17Speaker 2: got a talented roster, it does not always translate into
- 3:22Speaker 2: a high level performance. You see that in All Star
- 3:24Speaker 2: games all the time. We've seen that locally, where you know,
- 3:28Speaker 2: you look at it on paper and you think, man,
- 3:30Speaker 2: this it should be better than what it is. So yes,
- 3:36Speaker 2: I think Philly's roster is arguably one of the best,
- 3:38Speaker 2: if not the best, in all of the NFL. But
- 3:43Speaker 2: you still have to do something with that, and Kellen
- 3:45Speaker 2: Moore certainly put together a plan all season long to
- 3:49Speaker 2: utilize and highlight the players that he had.
- 3:52Speaker 1: How do you feel we're all assuming at this point,
- 3:54Speaker 1: John He's going to be the Saints coach. I can't
- 3:56Speaker 1: see any snag stopping that adition.
- 3:58Speaker 2: Sure, let's hope that's a foregone PNM at.
- 4:00Speaker 1: This point, right, right, I mean we've all spent two
- 4:02Speaker 1: weeks saying it. I mean, it's got to be reality
- 4:04Speaker 1: at this point. How do you think he'll do? Given
- 4:08Speaker 1: these Every roster is different, right, but we can assume
- 4:10Speaker 1: some pieces will be in place. How do you think
- 4:12Speaker 1: he does coming in year one with the cast that
- 4:15Speaker 1: they have assembled?
- 4:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you'd have to hit realistic expectations. I
- 4:22Speaker 2: think anytime you're building, which is where I think the
- 4:26Speaker 2: Saints are, that's gonna take some time. I don't think
- 4:30Speaker 2: fans want to hear here on some five or six
- 4:33Speaker 2: year plan. I don't think those exist in the NFL
- 4:37Speaker 2: at law. If you're projecting, it's a three year plan, right,
- 4:42Speaker 2: I don't think that you're looking further out than that realistically.
- 4:48Speaker 2: But roster wise, the Saints aren't where the top four
- 4:55Speaker 2: six teams are in the NFL, so there is work
- 4:59Speaker 2: to be done, but I do think they can be
- 5:03Speaker 2: competitive as they build back into that space where they
- 5:08Speaker 2: are competing for Super Bowls at the end of the year.
- 5:12Speaker 1: I kind of broach the subject earlier, John, and we
- 5:14Speaker 1: don't know what they're gonna do with Derek Carr, but
- 5:18Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers is set to be a free agent as well.
- 5:21Speaker 1: If they're committed to saying like, okay, we're still all
- 5:25Speaker 1: in to win. Now, do you make a play for
- 5:28Speaker 1: a free agent Aaron Rodgers on a one year John,
- 5:32Speaker 1: I'm kind of thinking of it in terms of what
- 5:34Speaker 1: Minnesota did with Brett Farb after he went face. He
- 5:37Speaker 1: faced planted with the Jets, went to Minnesota and you
- 5:39Speaker 1: all played him in the NFC Championship game. He sort
- 5:41Speaker 1: of revived himself.
- 5:44Speaker 2: Well, he was also surrounded by that year the Vikings were,
- 5:48Speaker 2: in my opinion, the best team in the NFL. So
- 5:52Speaker 2: you put him with that much talent and sure, that's
- 5:56Speaker 2: a revitalizer for any career. I don't foresee that for
- 6:00Speaker 2: Aaron Rodgers. I think, you know, I don't want to
- 6:02Speaker 2: say I think it's fair to say that his best
- 6:06Speaker 2: days are behind them.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Yeah, John Stin's going with us here for a couple
- 6:09Speaker 1: more minutes. Former Saint Course Super Bowl champion Uh part
- 6:12Speaker 1: of Super Bowl fifty nine. Also, John was watching guys
- 6:14Speaker 1: like Zach Bond and Johnson Gardner, Johnson's former Saints get
- 6:17Speaker 1: out there and go go get rings with their new team. John,
- 6:21Speaker 1: how do you make peace with this? The two guys
- 6:23Speaker 1: that are such impact guys. And we know Chauncey played
- 6:26Speaker 1: well in New Orleans, I but Zach Bond could barely
- 6:28Speaker 1: get on the field man, and now he's, you know,
- 6:29Speaker 1: a Defensive Player of the Year candidate, Like, how do
- 6:32Speaker 1: we make peace? Make sense of how this all played out?
- 6:34Speaker 1: Where those guys got away and were so impactful elsewhere?
- 6:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I think more than anything, fans struggle with it
- 6:42Speaker 2: because we project what might have been. With that said,
- 6:47Speaker 2: I think Zach appreciate, appreciated the opportunity for a position
- 6:51Speaker 2: change and be a part of a defense that might
- 6:55Speaker 2: have been a better fit for his skill set. And
- 6:58Speaker 2: I think that's important that sometimes gets lost and what
- 7:02Speaker 2: a team's doing and what a player is skilled at
- 7:06Speaker 2: those don't always mash And that's why we see some
- 7:11Speaker 2: I sought after free agents. They end up in different
- 7:15Speaker 2: locations and you're going by he just doesn't seem to
- 7:18Speaker 2: be this same guy or doesn't reach that same level
- 7:22Speaker 2: of production. And Zach is a great example of the
- 7:27Speaker 2: mirror of that, where a player moves into a different
- 7:31Speaker 2: system and it's a better fit for him. And I
- 7:35Speaker 2: think anyone looks at it, you go, wow, that's frustrating
- 7:39Speaker 2: for the Saints. But with that said, I think Pete
- 7:41Speaker 2: Werner and do Mario Davis are are two of the
- 7:43Speaker 2: best linebackers when healthy in the league. So there wasn't
- 7:47Speaker 2: a lot of opportunity for Zach there. The ask was
- 7:50Speaker 2: for him to fill a little bit of a different
- 7:52Speaker 2: role with the Saints, and where the Eagles had opportunities,
- 7:58Speaker 2: it fit obviously get what he can do really well,
- 8:02Speaker 2: much better than his ask was in New Orleans.
- 8:06Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a tough question because do you move to
- 8:09Speaker 1: Mario Davis aside to put Zack baonn in. But if
- 8:12Speaker 1: you asked that question today and you look at a
- 8:14Speaker 1: guy in his twenties versus guy in his mid thirties,
- 8:15Speaker 1: the answer might be a little different knowing what you
- 8:17Speaker 1: know now, but again you don't know it at the time.
- 8:19Speaker 2: So that's the beauty of being able to look back
- 8:24Speaker 2: with twenty twenty, and it's certainly not the case in
- 8:27Speaker 2: the moment. I mean you look at let's say you're
- 8:32Speaker 2: Seattle back in the day and Jimmy Graham is putting
- 8:35Speaker 2: up the numbers that he did in New Orleans. The
- 8:37Speaker 2: expectation is that he could go to a new system
- 8:39Speaker 2: and provide the same and did so for every guy
- 8:44Speaker 2: that you see like Zach who moves into a new
- 8:49Speaker 2: situation and a new role and thrives. I think there's
- 8:51Speaker 2: plenty of examples of fits that weren't as friendly as
- 8:58Speaker 2: what Zach found himself in.
- 9:00Speaker 1: John, Before you go, what when do you think realistically,
- 9:07Speaker 1: and you said, like long term, three year plan, But
- 9:09Speaker 1: when do you think realistically the Saints are going to
- 9:11Speaker 1: be able to compete again?
- 9:14Speaker 2: Well, that's a good question. Yeah, They've got they've got
- 9:20Speaker 2: a lot of work to do, and I think there
- 9:23Speaker 2: were some missus in really in the draft and just
- 9:27Speaker 2: development of players, and so there's some recovery that needs
- 9:32Speaker 2: to take place and some replacement. And anytime you have
- 9:35Speaker 2: a new coach come to town, obviously he's going to
- 9:38Speaker 2: want to install and instill his system. So I don't
- 9:43Speaker 2: think the New Orleans was super thrilled about their situation
- 9:47Speaker 2: heading into two thousand and six, and we ended up
- 9:49Speaker 2: playing for a NFC championship. So I think you can
- 9:53Speaker 2: create an atmosphere in a locker room where guys don't
- 9:56Speaker 2: understand where their ceiling should be and their synergy that
- 10:01Speaker 2: they can create where they outperform what they should. So
- 10:05Speaker 2: that would be my hope for New Orleans as they
- 10:09Speaker 2: are in the process of building that character, that identity
- 10:14Speaker 2: in the locker room matched with the skills that it
- 10:20Speaker 2: takes to win Super Bowls. Realistically, I think that's closer
- 10:23Speaker 2: to three years than one or two. He is.
- 10:26Speaker 1: John Stinchcombe, super Bowl champion, former Saint Pro bowler. Always
- 10:30Speaker 1: appreciate the chat. John, Thanks for taking a couple of mints, man.
- 10:34Speaker 2: I appreciate you giving the time.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Of course, it's our pleasure who det
