- 0:00Speaker 1: The following program is produced by the Tech Talk Radio Network.
- 0:04Speaker 1: Welcome to another episode of Tech Talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor.
- 0:09Speaker 2: I'm Sean DeWeerd.
- 0:10Speaker 1: And I'm Justin Lemme. Welcome.
- 0:12Speaker 3: It's good to have you back with us, Justin. It's
- 0:14Speaker 3: been a crazy couple weeks, yeah.
- 0:16Speaker 1: We've been very excited because last week in the show,
- 0:19Speaker 1: we were talking about the fact that Justin couldn't be
- 0:21Speaker 1: with us because he was out buying an RV. Yeah.
- 0:25Speaker 1: I did talk about that. I talked about it a
- 0:27Speaker 1: few weeks ago. Yeah, we ended up buying it. Yeah.
- 0:29Speaker 1: All right. So tell us what made you finally decide
- 0:32Speaker 1: you were going to go ahead and just bite the bullet?
- 0:34Speaker 1: I know you were really looking into it, right? We
- 0:37Speaker 1: went to go look at it for the very first time.
- 0:39Speaker 3: And I actually used AI to come up with a
- 0:43Speaker 3: third party inspector checklist, like everything that an inspector would
- 0:47Speaker 3: look at. Now, obviously, I am not a professional inspector.
- 0:51Speaker 3: I don't have that ability to see those things that
- 0:54Speaker 3: they would, but it gave, it gave me a really,
- 0:56Speaker 3: really good checklist of things to check out things. I mean,
- 1:00Speaker 3: from like, check out the AC, make sure the AC works,
- 1:03Speaker 3: make sure the generator works, make sure the heater works,
- 1:06Speaker 3: make sure the engine starts, drive it around, uh, make
- 1:09Speaker 3: sure the tires look good. Make sure that, um, The
- 1:13Speaker 3: refrigerator works. I mean, just, you know, every little thing
- 1:16Speaker 3: around it.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Make sure there's propane.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Make sure all of the sensors are working in the
- 1:21Speaker 3: RV where it tells you, you know, how much liquid
- 1:24Speaker 3: is in the black tank, the gray tank, and the,
- 1:26Speaker 3: you know, all that stuff, right?
- 1:27Speaker 4: So.
- 1:28Speaker 3: We went and looked at it, and I just couldn't
- 1:31Speaker 3: see any red flags. Granted, this is a used RV.
- 1:35Speaker 3: It's a 2020, which is still pretty young. But the
- 1:38Speaker 3: fact that it only had 20,000 miles on it.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Wow. Now, what kind of price difference do you get
- 1:44Speaker 1: from somebody buying a brand new, you know, right at
- 1:48Speaker 1: the dealer lot to buying a used? I mean, is
- 1:52Speaker 1: it significant?
- 1:53Speaker 3: It's a significant amount. You're taking a massive... hit in
- 1:57Speaker 3: depreciation as soon as you roll that vehicle off the lot.
- 2:00Speaker 3: I mean, even more than a new car. So we're
- 2:04Speaker 3: getting like the real true value of that RV at
- 2:07Speaker 3: this point, I think. As a matter of fact, I
- 2:10Speaker 3: did look it up on the Blue Book. The going
- 2:13Speaker 3: rate was between 40 and 43. We paid 43 for it. So,
- 2:17Speaker 3: you know, we're on the high end. But again, with
- 2:21Speaker 3: the mileage on it, the engine was barely broken in.
- 2:24Speaker 3: The generator just got redone because the previous owner, the
- 2:28Speaker 3: one I just bought it from, did fail to maintain
- 2:31Speaker 3: the generator. He let it sit for over a year.
- 2:36Speaker 3: And so when he went to go start it up,
- 2:37Speaker 3: the generator just wouldn't kick in. So he had to
- 2:39Speaker 3: get a new carburetor, new spark plugs, some new fuel lines.
- 2:43Speaker 3: things like that, because that was just all gunked up. So, yeah,
- 2:46Speaker 3: I mean, that felt like it was a brand new generator.
- 2:49Speaker 3: The generator worked fine.
- 2:50Speaker 1: But then I did.
- 2:51Speaker 3: I mean, I was talking to Sean about this and
- 2:54Speaker 3: Sean's dad and other friends. And they're like, yeah, you're
- 2:57Speaker 3: going to want to get a third party inspection. Unfortunately,
- 3:00Speaker 3: it just wasn't in the books for us because all
- 3:03Speaker 3: of these inspectors were saying late December, early January. And
- 3:07Speaker 3: I was like, I just I can't wait that long
- 3:09Speaker 3: for this. Like, And I did have a conversation on
- 3:12Speaker 3: the phone with one of those inspectors. And he said, look, I.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Can't be there.
- 3:16Speaker 3: However, if you've got 15 minutes, I'll go over the
- 3:19Speaker 3: phone with you and ask you these questions.
- 3:21Speaker 1: And so we went over. He's like, did you check this?
- 3:23Speaker 4: Yep.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Did you check that?
- 3:24Speaker 4: Yep.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Et cetera, et cetera.
- 3:26Speaker 3: And he's like, well, you pretty much just kind of
- 3:29Speaker 3: run through everything that I would run through. And if
- 3:33Speaker 3: you feel confident in it, the only thing I would
- 3:36Speaker 3: say is, you know, maybe if you're really really wanting
- 3:40Speaker 3: to know for sure is have me come out sometime
- 3:43Speaker 3: next year. And, uh, you know, I'll look at the, the, the, the,
- 3:46Speaker 3: the roof, the seals on the roof, make sure that
- 3:49Speaker 3: those still look good. But he said, if all the
- 3:51Speaker 3: other equipment is working, he said, I think you found
- 3:55Speaker 3: a diamond in the rough and I think you should
- 3:57Speaker 3: jump on it. And so that's what we did. We
- 4:00Speaker 3: just decided to bite the bullet, like you said, and
- 4:02Speaker 3: we jumped on it.
- 4:03Speaker 1: We bought it.
- 4:04Speaker 3: And it took a few days. We had to get
- 4:07Speaker 3: funds cleared. We looked into various financing options. I mean,
- 4:10Speaker 3: I even asked the guy, I said, hey, do you
- 4:11Speaker 3: take Bitcoin? And he's like, I don't even know what
- 4:14Speaker 3: that is. And I was like, well, there goes that idea.
- 4:18Speaker 3: And so I thought, well, I mean, I could sell Bitcoin,
- 4:21Speaker 3: but then I got to pay capital gains tax on it.
- 4:24Speaker 3: I said, well, we could also just get a loan
- 4:26Speaker 3: and finance. But then I looked at the loan, even
- 4:28Speaker 3: though we have excellent credit, if I were to get
- 4:31Speaker 3: a loan and pay that off over the next, you know,
- 4:33Speaker 3: 10 to 15 years, it would have been between 65
- 4:36Speaker 3: and $ 73, 000 total paid. So I was like, that's ridiculous.
- 4:41Speaker 3: So we ended up just using savings and we just,
- 4:44Speaker 3: we used our savings account and we just bought it
- 4:46Speaker 3: straight cash. So it is now currently sitting in storage.
- 4:50Speaker 1: That is cool.
- 4:51Speaker 3: We did get it delivered to our house. He wanted
- 4:54Speaker 3: to meet way down south of Denver. And I said, look,
- 4:57Speaker 3: with our schedules, with Eric and school and gymnastics and
- 5:01Speaker 3: all these other things going on, I said, look, man,
- 5:04Speaker 3: I'll buy you a beer at Brews, you know, which
- 5:07Speaker 3: is our local little brewery. And I'll give you 20
- 5:09Speaker 3: bucks for gas if you can just take it to
- 5:12Speaker 3: our house.
- 5:13Speaker 1: And he's like, okay. So he came up. We had
- 5:15Speaker 1: a couple beers.
- 5:16Speaker 3: You know, his wife drove up with him because obviously
- 5:18Speaker 3: he had to get home. So His wife drove the
- 5:20Speaker 3: other car. We had a couple beers. We had a
- 5:22Speaker 3: good time. We signed over the paperwork. We had the
- 5:25Speaker 3: money transferred, and bam, it was ours. We handed over
- 5:28Speaker 3: the keys, and we pulled it.
- 5:29Speaker 1: It was funny.
- 5:30Speaker 3: We pulled it right in front of our house, and
- 5:33Speaker 3: we've got some sort of a tree out front of
- 5:36Speaker 3: our house. I don't know what kind of tree it is,
- 5:37Speaker 3: but the branches were a little bit low. And as
- 5:41Speaker 3: we were pulling it in, parking in front of our house,
- 5:43Speaker 3: it was like, I mean, just.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Scraping and scratching.
- 5:49Speaker 2: You are going to realize how much you don't notice
- 5:52Speaker 2: driving a smaller car once you get into this thing
- 5:55Speaker 2: and drive it around.
- 5:56Speaker 4: Oh, no, I did.
- 5:57Speaker 1: We drove around.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Yeah, it's comical how people, when they start driving an RV,
- 6:01Speaker 2: they go, oh. I didn't notice that before.
- 6:05Speaker 3: Well, actually the next day I had to take it
- 6:07Speaker 3: up and get emissions done on it, which was actually
- 6:11Speaker 3: very good because I didn't realize normally emissions testing in
- 6:15Speaker 3: Colorado takes forever because there's a big line of people.
- 6:20Speaker 3: I just happened to go on a day. First off
- 6:22Speaker 3: for regular cars, there was hardly anybody there, which was excellent.
- 6:26Speaker 3: But on top of that, they have a dedicated RV lane.
- 6:29Speaker 1: So I got right. I was in and out within
- 6:31Speaker 1: 10 minutes.
- 6:33Speaker 3: And I had the emissions done, which was the best
- 6:35Speaker 3: part about it was I could not pull through the
- 6:39Speaker 3: bay because the RV is so large.
- 6:41Speaker 1: I had to pull in. They did the check. I
- 6:43Speaker 1: had to back out and then cut across all the
- 6:46Speaker 1: other cars, all the cars that were in line. They
- 6:49Speaker 1: had to back up and let me come through because
- 6:52Speaker 1: I had to exit through the front of the building,
- 6:54Speaker 1: if you will.
- 6:55Speaker 3: So then I had to drive it over to the
- 6:58Speaker 3: DMV to get my tags and registration done. And on
- 7:02Speaker 3: the way there, there's like a thrift store or something.
- 7:05Speaker 3: And they had these party streamers from their front, the
- 7:10Speaker 3: facade of the front of their store hanging out to
- 7:13Speaker 3: the streetlights. And as I'm driving in, I'm like, ooh,
- 7:15Speaker 3: those look pretty low. Sure enough, I caught every single
- 7:19Speaker 3: one of those streamers and knocked them down.
- 7:22Speaker 1: And I'm like, whoops. Well, shouldn't have put them so low.
- 7:25Speaker 1: It's a learning curve, right? It's a learning thing.
- 7:27Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Well, I mean, it's not my fault.
- 7:28Speaker 3: You shouldn't have put them so low. But I spent
- 7:30Speaker 3: about two and a half hours in the DMV. And
- 7:34Speaker 3: that was a sticker shock because when I did finally
- 7:36Speaker 3: go to the DMV and got to talk to the lady,
- 7:39Speaker 3: she's like, oh, congratulations. You're going to have this RV.
- 7:42Speaker 1: It's so great. You get to go camping.
- 7:45Speaker 3: But you know, I'm going to have to collect the
- 7:48Speaker 3: sales tax on that.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Right.
- 7:50Speaker 4: What?
- 7:50Speaker 1: And I was like, wait, what? How much is that?
- 7:54Speaker 1: And she's like, well.
- 7:55Speaker 3: Your registration is 470 for the year. Do you want
- 8:00Speaker 3: the state park pass for 29? I'm like, at this point,
- 8:04Speaker 3: just put it on there.
- 8:05Speaker 1: I don't care. She's like, okay, grand.
- 8:07Speaker 2: Total is $ 2, 300.
- 8:07Speaker 1: I'm like, Oh, here's my credit card. And she's like, yeah,
- 8:10Speaker 1: about that. Um, we charge a 2.5% fee on credit
- 8:12Speaker 1: card transactions. Oh my God.
- 8:15Speaker 4: Oh my God.
- 8:22Speaker 1: I was like, just, just shoot me now. Just whatever.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Get it over with. Wow. So anyway, it is, it
- 8:28Speaker 1: is free and clear. It is ours. It's in my name.
- 8:31Speaker 1: It is registered. It is licensed. It's insured. I mean,
- 8:35Speaker 1: that was a big question. I have insurance. Oh yeah.
- 8:39Speaker 1: It can be tough to insure a car. You buy
- 8:41Speaker 1: a brand new car. Oh, I did in five minutes.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Is it, is it, is it pricey though? I mean,
- 8:46Speaker 1: it was like 550 bucks for six months. It's reasonable.
- 8:52Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah.
- 8:52Speaker 2: My RV insurance is reasonable.
- 8:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:54Speaker 3: I mean, they also, they asked me the most important
- 8:56Speaker 3: question was how much, how many years do you have
- 9:00Speaker 3: experience driving an RV? And I said, 15.
- 9:03Speaker 1: No, no, I did not say that. I said two.
- 9:06Speaker 1: I said two. I was like, okay, I'll go with two.
- 9:08Speaker 2: My buddy Sean's got ten, so.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 9:11Speaker 3: But, I mean, if I were to put zero, they'd
- 9:12Speaker 3: be like, okay, it's going to be $ 2, 500 for six months,
- 9:15Speaker 3: you know. But, no, I do have experience driving big vehicles. So,
- 9:19Speaker 3: I was like, I feel comfortable saying that. Right.
- 9:22Speaker 1: But, yeah, I mean, it is. It's ours. It's in storage.
- 9:25Speaker 3: We finally got a hold of the storage guy that's
- 9:28Speaker 3: literally three blocks away from us.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Right.
- 9:31Speaker 3: We put it in his backyard along with a bunch
- 9:33Speaker 3: of other junk vehicles that people are paying him to
- 9:36Speaker 3: store that don't even run. He literally has to use
- 9:38Speaker 3: a forklift to lift up certain vehicles to move things around.
- 9:42Speaker 3: So that way I have the best parking spot because
- 9:44Speaker 3: he's like, well, you want to come in and out, right?
- 9:46Speaker 3: I was like, yeah, I want to take it in
- 9:48Speaker 3: and out. He's like, okay, well, none of these other
- 9:50Speaker 3: vehicles run. So let me get the forklift and lift.
- 9:52Speaker 1: His cars up.
- 9:53Speaker 3: So that was kind of interesting that people are paying
- 9:55Speaker 3: him to store junk in his yard.
- 9:59Speaker 1: Amazing.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Exciting.
- 10:00Speaker 1: Have you decided yet? And, you know, we talked about
- 10:04Speaker 1: this with Sean last week. Where is the first place
- 10:07Speaker 1: you're going to go? Not sure yet, but obviously I
- 10:11Speaker 1: think it's going to be somewhere close. I think it's
- 10:13Speaker 1: going to be somewhere close.
- 10:14Speaker 2: Oh, it's got to be somewhere close. There's you don't
- 10:16Speaker 2: do a shakedown. A long ways away. You do something
- 10:19Speaker 2: that's within like a 15 minute drive or less. Well,
- 10:21Speaker 2: it's going to be more than that. But I mean,
- 10:23Speaker 2: there's a place down south of Denver. It's really close
- 10:27Speaker 2: to Larkspur, Colorado, which Larkspur is about halfway between Denver
- 10:30Speaker 2: and Colorado Springs. And it is an RV resort called Jellystone.
- 10:35Speaker 2: And it's after- Yogi Bear.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Yeah, Yogi Bear.
- 10:38Speaker 3: But this place has like 200- Full hookups, like sewer, power,
- 10:43Speaker 3: and water. It has three heated pools, water slides, mini golf, pickleball, volleyball, basketball.
- 10:50Speaker 2: It's a direct KOA competitor.
- 10:52Speaker 1: It is.
- 10:52Speaker 3: And it even has a restaurant and bar on site.
- 10:56Speaker 3: Like you could go literally restaurant and bar.
- 10:58Speaker 2: We've got one not that far from us too.
- 11:00Speaker 3: Yeah, just look up Jellystone Larkspur. And that's probably where
- 11:04Speaker 3: we'll go for the first one because if I do
- 11:07Speaker 3: forget something or something doesn't work right, It's going to
- 11:10Speaker 3: be super close for me to get home or super
- 11:12Speaker 3: close for me to call somebody and say, hey, come
- 11:14Speaker 3: and help us.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Right, right. What kind of gas does it take? It's unleaded.
- 11:19Speaker 1: It's not diesel.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Oh, really?
- 11:20Speaker 1: Yeah, it does. But it's, oh, oh, that's, oh, oh, God.
- 11:24Speaker 2: Uh-oh.
- 11:24Speaker 1: That's another thing. Uh-oh.
- 11:26Speaker 3: We were on almost, we were almost on the E
- 11:29Speaker 3: of empty. And I took it up to the, you know,
- 11:32Speaker 3: petrol station, if you will.
- 11:34Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 11:35Speaker 1: And I put 50 bucks into it. I barely got
- 11:37Speaker 1: an eighth of a ton.
- 11:38Speaker 2: I say it didn't even move the needle.
- 11:41Speaker 1: It didn't even move the needle, dude. I was like, wait, what?
- 11:44Speaker 1: Is this working? Always be curious when I see somebody
- 11:47Speaker 1: pull up to the pumps with an RV to see
- 11:51Speaker 1: how much they're putting in. What kind of tank is
- 11:53Speaker 1: that guy?
- 11:54Speaker 3: This is going to take $ 250, $ 300 at the current rate.
- 11:57Speaker 2: Here's a question for you. You probably don't know the
- 11:59Speaker 2: answer to this. Is your generator a self dip or
- 12:04Speaker 2: is it a full dip for the generator? So will
- 12:07Speaker 2: the generator run your tank out of gas? No, it'll
- 12:10Speaker 2: only go so low.
- 12:11Speaker 1: No, it'll only go so low. It'll go 25% and
- 12:13Speaker 1: it will stop.
- 12:14Speaker 3: Okay.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Yeah. Is that, is that what you call a self dip?
- 12:17Speaker 2: Self dip is just, that's what I call it, but.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Okay. Whatever. Yeah. No, it will stop at 25%. All right. So,
- 12:25Speaker 1: you know, we're tech talk radio. Uh, what, uh, what
- 12:28Speaker 1: kind of tech do you have in it? Radio Sirius XM.
- 12:31Speaker 3: It does have, it does have radio, but the thing is,
- 12:34Speaker 3: which is weird is that the coach radio, which is
- 12:38Speaker 3: operated off the dash unit of the vehicle itself is
- 12:41Speaker 3: actually operated off the coach batteries. So for me to
- 12:44Speaker 3: be able to use the radio, I have to not
- 12:46Speaker 3: only do I get in the driver's seat, I have
- 12:49Speaker 3: to back the driver's seat up, walk back into the coach,
- 12:52Speaker 3: turn the battery disconnect on. Then I can use my radio.
- 12:56Speaker 3: And here's the worst part about it is when you
- 12:59Speaker 3: use that battery disconnect, it kills all power to the radio,
- 13:03Speaker 3: which means no memory presets, no volume control, no backup
- 13:08Speaker 3: camera if it's not on. So yeah, every time I
- 13:11Speaker 3: turn it on, I have to reprogram it. Now I
- 13:13Speaker 3: did look it up on AI and I said, Hey,
- 13:15Speaker 3: is there a way around this? And it said, Oh gosh,
- 13:17Speaker 3: this is a super common thing with Thor motor coaches.
- 13:20Speaker 3: This is the way they wired it. It's a super
- 13:22Speaker 3: easy way to wire around it. You just got to
- 13:24Speaker 3: do this, this, and this, and you'll be able to
- 13:26Speaker 3: put a memory wire into it just to keep that trickle.
- 13:30Speaker 3: And the trickle can come off the coach batteries. It's
- 13:33Speaker 3: not going to hurt it, but that will keep your
- 13:35Speaker 3: settings in place if you want.
- 13:37Speaker 1: But right.
- 13:38Speaker 3: So yeah, I got that. The only other technology upgrade
- 13:43Speaker 3: is it does have tank heaters. So if we want
- 13:45Speaker 3: to go boondocking, it does have a black tank, gray tank,
- 13:48Speaker 3: and a freshwater tank heater to keep those lines from
- 13:52Speaker 3: freezing if the temperature drops down too low.
- 13:55Speaker 1: What is boondocking?
- 13:57Speaker 3: Boondocking means you're just going off, off, off. You're not
- 13:59Speaker 3: having any connections, no power, no water. You're running off
- 14:03Speaker 3: only what you have in the camper.
- 14:04Speaker 4: Oh, okay.
- 14:05Speaker 1: All right. That sounds like fun, though.
- 14:07Speaker 2: I told Justin I'm very envious of his adventures he's
- 14:13Speaker 2: about to have because he's so close to so many
- 14:16Speaker 2: great places within a day or two.
- 14:18Speaker 1: Yeah, when are you coming out to Rocky Mountains?
- 14:20Speaker 2: I don't know. As soon as I can.
- 14:25Speaker 1: We were talking about this. I had no idea that
- 14:27Speaker 1: people convoy. Sean was talking about driving his RV out
- 14:32Speaker 1: to you. then you guys can just go on a
- 14:35Speaker 1: convoy trip. Yep. If you have any friends, have any
- 14:37Speaker 1: of your coworkers or friends that are, you know, have
- 14:42Speaker 1: they looked at this and said, I might want to
- 14:43Speaker 1: do that. Could there be a resurgence among your group?
- 14:47Speaker 3: I don't know about Sean's friends or whatever, but I
- 14:49Speaker 3: can tell you right now, I've had about at least
- 14:51Speaker 3: four different friends that said, hey, would you think about
- 14:54Speaker 3: renting this to us for the weekend? I said, let
- 14:56Speaker 3: me have a chance first.
- 15:01Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 15:01Speaker 2: So there's actually, it's very popular for people that have
- 15:04Speaker 2: decent sized campers to rent them to their friends. There's
- 15:07Speaker 2: actually a business around this too, where I could rent
- 15:11Speaker 2: my camper, go set it up at a campground. The
- 15:14Speaker 2: people just drive their car to the campground, camp in it,
- 15:17Speaker 2: drive their car home. I go pick it up. There's
- 15:20Speaker 2: a business in that. People do that all the time.
- 15:21Speaker 2: That's interesting.
- 15:22Speaker 1: Yeah, that is really interesting. I don't think I would
- 15:24Speaker 1: ever do that. I mean, this is ours.
- 15:25Speaker 4: I don't.
- 15:26Speaker 3: And part of it also is a little bit of
- 15:28Speaker 3: that Japanese culture. You know, that's like allowing somebody to
- 15:31Speaker 3: stay in your home, you know, on vacation or whatever.
- 15:34Speaker 3: And in Japanese culture, people barely even get to go
- 15:38Speaker 3: inside of Japanese houses of other people, even to visit,
- 15:43Speaker 3: even when they're there. So to let somebody stay inside
- 15:46Speaker 3: of your house on your bed, it's probably not going
- 15:49Speaker 3: to fly.
- 15:50Speaker 1: How is Misa responding to it? Is she pretty excited?
- 15:53Speaker 1: And of course, Eric, how does he feel about it?
- 15:55Speaker 3: Well, I'll start with Eric. Eric is definitely excited. He
- 15:59Speaker 3: can't wait to go. Misa, on the other hand, she
- 16:03Speaker 3: has created an Amazon wish list that is like 40
- 16:06Speaker 3: or 50 things long already of things that she wants
- 16:09Speaker 3: to buy for the camper.
- 16:10Speaker 1: And that's going to be the cleanest camper ever. That's
- 16:14Speaker 1: going to be the cleanest motorhome that exists.
- 16:19Speaker 3: What is that thing, the Black & Decker, the little vacuum?
- 16:23Speaker 1: She's already got one of those on her wish list.
- 16:25Speaker 3: She's talking about color coordinating the bed sheets to the
- 16:28Speaker 3: shower curtains. I'm like, yo, come on.
- 16:32Speaker 2: We've talked about the nuts and the bolts of the RV.
- 16:35Speaker 2: Misa and my mom need to now have a talk
- 16:38Speaker 2: about how they organize their RVs. My mom, their RV
- 16:42Speaker 2: is immaculate. And everything's got a place and everything's in
- 16:46Speaker 2: its place. So I think Misa and my mom now
- 16:48Speaker 2: need to talk about and share stories about how they
- 16:50Speaker 2: organize their RVs.
- 16:51Speaker 1: Well, bring your mom and dad out here. We'll do
- 16:53Speaker 1: one of those convoys and we'll all just sit around.
- 16:55Speaker 2: They'll probably be there before we can get out there.
- 16:56Speaker 2: You tell them to drive out there. They'll be on
- 16:59Speaker 2: the road in six hours.
- 17:00Speaker 1: We'll go camping with your parents then. Come out. Forget you.
- 17:02Speaker 1: We'll go camping with your parents. Come out to Green
- 17:05Speaker 1: Valley too. That would be a lot of fun. Well,
- 17:07Speaker 1: we do want to go to Santa Fe, so maybe
- 17:08Speaker 1: we'll make it over there. That would be good. This
- 17:11Speaker 1: is a very interesting show this week because Not only
- 17:14Speaker 1: do we have this kind of personal story, you know,
- 17:16Speaker 1: Justin is exploring this. We've talked about it. Sean has
- 17:20Speaker 1: also been talking about something that we're going to be
- 17:22Speaker 1: talking about coming up here in another segment. We were
- 17:25Speaker 1: able to do this a little earlier, but Sean finally
- 17:29Speaker 1: got in his Nintendo Switch 2, and we're going to
- 17:32Speaker 1: unbox it. So you're going to be able to see
- 17:34Speaker 1: what that looks like. I've got something personal as well.
- 17:37Speaker 1: Some of you know that in 1964, my parents, they
- 17:40Speaker 1: got two big metal crates. And they took these two
- 17:44Speaker 1: big metal crates, loaded up with everything they could. They
- 17:47Speaker 1: hopped on a boat and they made it to the
- 17:49Speaker 1: United States of America. We became citizens in 72. And
- 17:55Speaker 1: my dad loved this country. He's no longer with us,
- 17:57Speaker 1: nor my mom. But that boat was the SS United States. Oh,
- 18:01Speaker 1: my gosh.
- 18:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Yep. And the SS United States will be sunk, I believe,
- 18:06Speaker 1: next week. And coming up later on in the show,
- 18:09Speaker 1: Tyler Butler, who is the anchor for KMSB Fox 11
- 18:13Speaker 1: and KLD TV News 13 is going to join us
- 18:16Speaker 1: about his podcast that features everything about cars. Maybe we'll
- 18:20Speaker 1: talk RVs, boats, trains, the whole bit. So we'll be
- 18:24Speaker 1: doing that coming up a little later on as well.
- 18:27Speaker 1: But you had something else, too, that you wanted to
- 18:30Speaker 1: share with us. And so it's like the some of
- 18:32Speaker 1: the biggest news, the things to tell us here. So
- 18:35Speaker 1: we told you, don't don't give us any hints.
- 18:38Speaker 3: I'm not going to give any hints, but I've got
- 18:40Speaker 3: exactly six minutes to tell you this story. So this weekend,
- 18:44Speaker 3: Eric and I, we, we, it was a family. We
- 18:45Speaker 3: went to Costco to get our Costco run and we
- 18:47Speaker 3: happened to notice that they were releasing some Pokemon cards, uh,
- 18:53Speaker 3: you know, and they have the big boxes where you,
- 18:55Speaker 3: it's like 40 bucks. You get like 10 packs and,
- 18:58Speaker 3: and whatever. So those have become really popular.
- 19:00Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 19:01Speaker 3: And, and a lot of times scalpers will just buy
- 19:03Speaker 3: the entire crate. And, but, but Costco's now said, Nope, Nope. One,
- 19:07Speaker 3: one pack per person, one pack per member. And so
- 19:10Speaker 3: we're like, okay, let's jump in line. Let's get a pack.
- 19:12Speaker 1: Right.
- 19:13Speaker 3: So we're standing in line. There's a guy in front
- 19:15Speaker 3: of us. We get up to the counter and the
- 19:17Speaker 3: guy says, Oh, Hey, I'm not ready yet. Go ahead
- 19:19Speaker 3: and go in front of me. Didn't think nothing of it.
- 19:22Speaker 3: I was like, yeah, okay, no problem. We got up,
- 19:24Speaker 3: we got our pack. We walked out to the car.
- 19:26Speaker 3: We get in the car. Eric starts opening packs. I, uh,
- 19:30Speaker 3: I said, let me, let me take one of those
- 19:31Speaker 3: packs and we open it up.
- 19:33Speaker 1: I opened up the pack and I'm going to put
- 19:37Speaker 1: this on the screen. Oh my. We pulled this card
- 19:42Speaker 1: right here. Oh, that's supposed to. Oh, wow.
- 19:46Speaker 3: This now, if you're not watching the podcast, this is
- 19:49Speaker 3: what they call. a tree. It's a Pikachu, but it
- 19:53Speaker 3: is a special edition Pikachu. Now, the biggest part about
- 19:56Speaker 3: this is down here at the numbers. It tells you
- 19:59Speaker 3: how many cards are in a set.
- 20:01Speaker 1: There's 217 cards.
- 20:01Speaker 3: 217.
- 20:01Speaker 2: This is 276 cards.
- 20:09Speaker 3: Of 217 with two stars next to it. So I immediately,
- 20:14Speaker 3: I knew this card was rare. I knew there was
- 20:16Speaker 3: something about this card. I took a picture of this
- 20:20Speaker 3: card and I put it up on Grock and I said,
- 20:23Speaker 3: how much is this card worth?
- 20:25Speaker 4: Right.
- 20:26Speaker 3: Grock said, you're not going to believe this, but you
- 20:30Speaker 3: just pulled the most rare card in Pokemon history.
- 20:34Speaker 1: No way.
- 20:35Speaker 3: Of the current, excuse me, sorry, not in history, of
- 20:38Speaker 3: the current set. They said, as it is right now, raw,
- 20:43Speaker 3: which means it's not been graded, this card is worth $ 600. Dude,
- 20:49Speaker 3: and how much was the investment?
- 20:52Speaker 1: Hold on.
- 20:53Speaker 3: If we get it graded, and it turns out to
- 20:56Speaker 3: be a perfect 10, which I did take this to
- 20:59Speaker 3: Level 7 Games, which is our local card shop, They
- 21:03Speaker 3: pulled me in the back room and said, do not
- 21:05Speaker 3: show this to anybody. And the guy took a close
- 21:09Speaker 3: look at it with a magnifying glass and said, this
- 21:11Speaker 3: is a perfect 10. Put this in a hard sleeve
- 21:13Speaker 3: and get it graded. This is worth $ 2, 500. Oh, my God.
- 21:17Speaker 3: That's awesome.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Off a $ 40 investment.
- 21:23Speaker 3: This is why the scalpers do this. Now, I mentioned
- 21:26Speaker 3: earlier in the story that there was a guy in
- 21:28Speaker 3: front of us in line. If he would have been
- 21:31Speaker 3: the one to buy, he would have gotten that card.
- 21:35Speaker 2: But you don't know that he didn't get a bomb
- 21:36Speaker 2: in his either, right?
- 21:37Speaker 1: Well, I don't know.
- 21:38Speaker 3: And he doesn't know that we got this because we
- 21:40Speaker 3: never saw him again. But here's the thing. I did
- 21:42Speaker 3: look this up and I asked the level seven guy.
- 21:44Speaker 3: I said, how rare is this? He says, well, this
- 21:47Speaker 3: is about one in 15,000 packs.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Oh, my gosh.
- 21:51Speaker 3: Now, if you do the math, there's 10 cards per pack.
- 21:54Speaker 3: That's one in 150,000 cards.
- 21:57Speaker 2: So what do you do?
- 21:58Speaker 3: Do you sell or do you hold on to it? Well,
- 22:00Speaker 3: I mean, that's the question. I mean, you get it graded.
- 22:04Speaker 3: Let's say it turns out to be a perfect 10. Yeah,
- 22:06Speaker 3: you could hold on to it. Now, when this card
- 22:09Speaker 3: first came out earlier this year, the going rate was $ 1, 000 raw, $ 4, 000
- 22:11Speaker 3: graded perfect 10. The price has gone down. It's now
- 22:13Speaker 3: 600 or 2,500. So the price will fluctuate, especially as
- 22:24Speaker 3: more and more cards enter the market. Because again, when
- 22:27Speaker 3: the first card got pulled, it was the most rare
- 22:30Speaker 3: card ever because there's no other cards like it. This
- 22:33Speaker 3: is probably the hundredth card or whatever they got pulled.
- 22:36Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 22:37Speaker 3: So the price has gone down. So I asked Eric,
- 22:39Speaker 3: I said, look, man, hey, this is your card. What
- 22:41Speaker 3: do you want to do with it? And he says, well,
- 22:43Speaker 3: if it comes back a perfect 10, I'm going to
- 22:45Speaker 3: sell it.
- 22:47Speaker 1: That's cool.
- 22:48Speaker 4: Yep.
- 22:48Speaker 3: Yeah, so we pulled one of the most rare cards
- 22:51Speaker 3: in Pokemon history.
- 22:53Speaker 1: Isn't it great, though, how Grock, and I know Jim
- 22:56Speaker 1: and I will do the same thing, or even Chad GPT,
- 22:59Speaker 1: now you can take a photo of something and say,
- 23:02Speaker 1: tell me about this, and it will tell you. Although
- 23:05Speaker 1: it's interesting because it used to be, before you would
- 23:07Speaker 1: go onto Google or whichever search engine you use, you'd
- 23:11Speaker 1: have to type it in. I heard a story this
- 23:13Speaker 1: week that Google is facing a bit of a problem
- 23:17Speaker 1: Because Google, when you do a search on Google, you
- 23:20Speaker 1: get fed ads. When you use Gemini and you use
- 23:24Speaker 1: the AI assistant to give you the information, you're not
- 23:27Speaker 1: being fed ads, at least right now. And so they're
- 23:31Speaker 1: actually losing money by people moving over to AI searches
- 23:35Speaker 1: like Grok and Google or Gemini or Google Assistant to
- 23:39Speaker 1: get the results of something they would normally look up.
- 23:42Speaker 1: Even Google themselves are shooting themselves in.
- 23:45Speaker 3: Wait, hold on.
- 23:46Speaker 1: That was redundant. Even Google is.
- 23:47Speaker 3: Shooting themselves in the foot because when you go to
- 23:50Speaker 3: Google something, their Gemini AI assistant answers you before any
- 23:55Speaker 3: of the ads that they're trying to sell you. So
- 23:58Speaker 3: they're shooting themselves in their own foot. It's interesting how
- 24:01Speaker 3: that works. But a lot of people, if you're listening,
- 24:04Speaker 3: you know what Justin was able to do, you can
- 24:06Speaker 3: do this stuff.
- 24:06Speaker 1: You find something. I found a coin collection, but my
- 24:11Speaker 1: stepdad used to collect. I was like, oh, what's these?
- 24:13Speaker 1: And I looked them up and there's some value to them.
- 24:15Speaker 1: Not a lot, but value. over to them being the
- 24:17Speaker 1: face coin. So, I mean, you can use that to
- 24:20Speaker 1: help find out a rare stamp, rare photo, rare postcard.
- 24:24Speaker 1: You know, you might be able to find all kinds
- 24:26Speaker 1: of stuff.
- 24:26Speaker 3: We are going to send this in to get graded.
- 24:28Speaker 3: We spent $ 120 from a website, not PSA. PSA has
- 24:32Speaker 3: been really hurting lately. We're going through a company called Tag,
- 24:36Speaker 3: and it's $ 120, 30-day turnaround. We're hoping it's going to
- 24:39Speaker 3: be a perfect 10.
- 24:41Speaker 1: All right. We're going to take a break. We come back. Sean,
- 24:45Speaker 1: his unboxing. And if you're watching this on the video,
- 24:49Speaker 1: I hope you are. You can follow us on YouTube
- 24:52Speaker 1: at Tech Talk Radio. Subscribe and like right there. But again,
- 24:54Speaker 1: Sean's going to be showing the brand new Nintendo Switch. 2, right, Sean?
- 25:00Speaker 2: It's the Zelda 40th anniversary special edition Switch 2.
- 25:05Speaker 4: All right.
- 25:05Speaker 1: We'll do that when we come back with more of
- 25:07Speaker 1: Tech Talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor.
- 25:09Speaker 2: I'm Sean DeWeerd.
- 25:10Speaker 1: And I'm Justin.
- 25:11Speaker 3: Let me find us on the web at techtalkradio.com.
- 25:13Speaker 1: We'll be right back.
- 25:15Speaker 2: Now, back to Tech Talk Radio.
- 25:18Speaker 1: This has been a moment we've all been waiting for.
- 25:21Speaker 1: I know Sean has actually been waiting for it longer
- 25:24Speaker 1: than Than we have, but Sean, you finally got everything in.
- 25:28Speaker 2: It finally all got here. Right. Except the game hasn't
- 25:32Speaker 2: released yet, so I don't have the physical game.
- 25:34Speaker 4: Oh, man.
- 25:35Speaker 1: I have to get it Wednesday at midnight. So this
- 25:37Speaker 1: coming Wednesday at midnight, by showtime.
- 25:39Speaker 2: By showtime, by showtime, I will have had it.
- 25:41Speaker 1: We're talking about Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time, which,
- 25:45Speaker 1: you know, it's interesting because, you know, we post these on...
- 25:47Speaker 1: TikTok and YouTube and Reels and the whole bit. And
- 25:51Speaker 1: a lot of people are really excited about the title.
- 25:53Speaker 1: They can't wait for it.
- 25:54Speaker 2: It's very hard to avoid spoilers right now because some
- 25:57Speaker 2: European countries, it's already been released by game stores. So
- 26:01Speaker 2: there's already live actual game content out there available. I'm
- 26:05Speaker 2: not watching it. I'm trying to avoid it as much
- 26:07Speaker 2: as possible because I'm going to play through it with
- 26:09Speaker 2: just like my Nintendo Power Guide. Like what I had
- 26:12Speaker 2: when I played it when I was 12. I haven't
- 26:13Speaker 2: opened it yet. I was going to unbox it in
- 26:15Speaker 2: this segment later.
- 26:16Speaker 1: So let me ask you, though, when it comes to
- 26:18Speaker 1: game titles, I know I remember when I played a
- 26:20Speaker 1: lot more games. Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, played
- 26:23Speaker 1: a lot of those. Red Dead Redemption 2, I was
- 26:26Speaker 1: so excited when that one came out. But I'm wondering,
- 26:28Speaker 1: has there been any other title that you, as somebody
- 26:32Speaker 1: who games, was really excited about?
- 26:35Speaker 2: The Halo series, the original couple, Halo 1, 2, 3,
- 26:38Speaker 2: the OSDT, a couple of the other Halo games. The
- 26:42Speaker 2: Ace Combat series, which they just released, Ace Combat 8.
- 26:45Speaker 2: Wings of Thieves, which is really good. My brother's been
- 26:48Speaker 2: playing a lot of that. So there's so many games
- 26:50Speaker 2: that are releasing in the next two and a half weeks.
- 26:52Speaker 2: You know, for me, it's the Zelda series are always good, right?
- 26:55Speaker 2: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, all of
- 26:58Speaker 2: the other ancillary games you've had over the years. But
- 27:01Speaker 2: this game, Ocarina of Time, just is so nostalgic for
- 27:06Speaker 2: me because it's one of the... The Zelda series as
- 27:10Speaker 2: a whole has been a part of my life The
- 27:14Speaker 2: entirety of my life. My mom played it when she
- 27:16Speaker 2: was pregnant with me. Wait, your mom played this game?
- 27:18Speaker 2: My mom played the original Zelda. The original Zelda on
- 27:23Speaker 2: the original Nintendo. Because it came out in 86 and
- 27:27Speaker 2: I was born in June of 86. So she played it,
- 27:31Speaker 2: hand drew her own maps.
- 27:34Speaker 4: Right.
- 27:34Speaker 2: And the whole thing. So I attribute that, my mom,
- 27:37Speaker 2: to why I love Zelda so much because she just
- 27:40Speaker 2: played it a bunch when I was young.
- 27:42Speaker 1: Right, right.
- 27:44Speaker 2: And then, obviously, you know, the Link to the Past
- 27:47Speaker 2: on the Super Nintendo was really, really good. Ocarina of
- 27:49Speaker 2: Time is just such an incredible game for its time.
- 27:53Speaker 2: I never played Majora's Mask. I wasn't super into Majora's Mask.
- 27:57Speaker 2: I didn't have a 64 at the time. I played
- 27:59Speaker 2: mostly on my cousins. And then I kind of got
- 28:01Speaker 2: out of the Nintendo. I started playing more PlayStation games
- 28:03Speaker 2: and stuff and got into more JRPGs and other action
- 28:06Speaker 2: RPGs at that time and some other RTS. So I've
- 28:09Speaker 2: been waiting for a long time. When they announced the remake,
- 28:12Speaker 2: I said, Everybody's like, oh, you're going to get a
- 28:14Speaker 2: Switch 2 to play it. I was like, yeah, but
- 28:17Speaker 2: I'm going to wait. They're like, why are you going
- 28:18Speaker 2: to wait? Just get a Switch 2 now. You can
- 28:19Speaker 2: get other games. I was like, no, I know they're
- 28:21Speaker 2: going to announce a special edition. They're like, no, they're not.
- 28:24Speaker 2: And then they did, and everybody was like, oh, I
- 28:26Speaker 2: should have waited to buy my Switch.
- 28:27Speaker 1: So the things with special editions, they're putting it out
- 28:30Speaker 1: It's basically, and we're going to see it here in
- 28:32Speaker 1: just a second, but it's got all the accoutrements that
- 28:37Speaker 1: a fan of the game would like. So Sean right
- 28:40Speaker 1: now is going through what we call an open box.
- 28:42Speaker 1: He's basically doing this live. How were you able not
- 28:46Speaker 1: to open this box the last couple of days?
- 28:48Speaker 2: It's been tough.
- 28:49Speaker 1: Now, if you're watching our video, oh, you've got to
- 28:52Speaker 1: see this packaging.
- 28:53Speaker 2: Look at this.
- 28:54Speaker 1: This is the packaging.
- 28:55Speaker 2: This is the box. So this is what the dock
- 28:58Speaker 2: looks like and the Joy-Cons. So this is the box.
- 29:02Speaker 1: Can I ask how much this particular special edition cost you?
- 29:08Speaker 2: It actually wasn't that much more than the Mario Kart
- 29:11Speaker 2: World bundle. So it was only $ 519. So $ 560 after
- 29:15Speaker 2: taxes and blah, blah, blah, whatever. So this is the box, right?
- 29:18Speaker 1: Oh, look at that.
- 29:19Speaker 2: The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition Nintendo Switch Plus.
- 29:23Speaker 1: Would you be keeping this box for keepsake?
- 29:26Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, absolutely.
- 29:27Speaker 1: I know all the fans right now are going, did
- 29:30Speaker 1: that guy just ask that?
- 29:32Speaker 3: Right.
- 29:32Speaker 2: So I'm trying not to show serial numbers and stuff.
- 29:35Speaker 1: Yeah, all right.
- 29:36Speaker 2: So it comes with the Switch.
- 29:38Speaker 1: Oh, wow.
- 29:39Speaker 2: All right. way they, I don't know if you remember
- 29:42Speaker 2: when the original Switch 2 came out, they had issues
- 29:46Speaker 2: with people stapling the receipts to the top of the box.
- 29:49Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, it would go through the screen?
- 29:50Speaker 2: Again, this is like, if somebody staples something out of
- 29:52Speaker 2: the front, it's going right into the screen.
- 29:54Speaker 1: Yeah, not good.
- 29:55Speaker 2: So I'm just looking, I'm just opening this, so I'm
- 29:57Speaker 2: trying to figure out what's in here. The Nintendo online pamphlet.
- 30:00Speaker 1: There you go.
- 30:01Speaker 2: Safety and seizure warnings. HDMI cable.
- 30:04Speaker 1: HDMI cable. All right. So you can hook this Switch
- 30:07Speaker 1: 2 from Nintendo in the docking station and to your
- 30:11Speaker 1: big screen TV, right? Yeah. Is that the deal?
- 30:14Speaker 4: Yeah. All right.
- 30:15Speaker 2: So you can play it handheld or drop it on
- 30:17Speaker 2: the dock and it'll come up. I'll end up plugging
- 30:19Speaker 2: it in so I can play it on my second
- 30:21Speaker 2: monitor right here so I can just sit at my
- 30:22Speaker 2: computer and then stream it. Right.
- 30:25Speaker 1: Now, does this come with any games that are a
- 30:28Speaker 1: part of it?
- 30:29Speaker 4: No.
- 30:29Speaker 1: No. No games.
- 30:30Speaker 4: No.
- 30:30Speaker 2: No games. So. All right.
- 30:32Speaker 1: Don't.
- 30:33Speaker 2: I was a little disappointed that it didn't. So Joy-Con holder.
- 30:36Speaker 1: What does a Joy-Con holder do? So the Joy-Con.
- 30:39Speaker 2: The Joy-Con just slide in to the side so you
- 30:41Speaker 2: can hold like a regular controller. Oh, cool. So instead
- 30:43Speaker 2: of having them on the edges of the, on the
- 30:45Speaker 2: edges of the screen, you can just put them on
- 30:47Speaker 2: a controller if you're in docked mode or.
- 30:49Speaker 1: See, I don't have a switch too. So this is,
- 30:51Speaker 1: this is new for me.
- 30:52Speaker 2: So USB power supply.
- 30:54Speaker 1: Right.
- 30:55Speaker 2: So it's actually just a little tiny brick now. It's
- 30:58Speaker 2: not even. It is a 5-volt, 9-volt, 15-volt, 20-volt, so
- 31:04Speaker 2: it's smart. It'll provide the voltage that's required by the device.
- 31:10Speaker 1: Now, the switch to itself also has battery power. You
- 31:13Speaker 1: can charge it.
- 31:14Speaker 2: Yeah, correct. If you undock it, it's got battery power.
- 31:17Speaker 1: Okay.
- 31:18Speaker 2: USB-C for power.
- 31:19Speaker 4: All right.
- 31:21Speaker 2: And then here is dock. Here it is.
- 31:22Speaker 1: So, I don't know if I said that right. All right.
- 31:29Speaker 2: Oh, this looks so cool. So, oh, and it's very shiny.
- 31:35Speaker 1: Oh, that is really shiny.
- 31:36Speaker 4: That is.
- 31:37Speaker 1: Wow.
- 31:38Speaker 2: So, yeah. So it's got the triforce and a couple
- 31:41Speaker 2: of the symbols on there. Right.
- 31:43Speaker 1: Um, and that's prevalent in, in the title, in the
- 31:46Speaker 1: game itself.
- 31:46Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 31:46Speaker 2: The triforce is the whole, the triforce is the, the
- 31:49Speaker 2: life force of Hyrule basically.
- 31:51Speaker 3: Cool.
- 31:51Speaker 2: Um, it's got air holes on the bottom for breathing.
- 31:54Speaker 1: Good ventilation.
- 31:55Speaker 2: Good ventilation. Um, And then on the back, I saw this.
- 31:59Speaker 2: This was spoiled already. There's a little Easter egg on
- 32:02Speaker 2: the back with the original sprites from the original game.
- 32:05Speaker 1: That's cool.
- 32:06Speaker 2: Pulling it up and then hearts for your ace for power, right?
- 32:08Speaker 2: It's power. It's got the hearts for the AC on there.
- 32:11Speaker 1: That's awesome.
- 32:12Speaker 2: Yeah, so this looks really awesome. So just the back
- 32:14Speaker 2: pops off.
- 32:16Speaker 1: I want to remind our listeners that are listening to
- 32:18Speaker 1: this where you could see this and see what we're
- 32:20Speaker 1: talking about on our video, which is available on our website, blog.techtalkradio.com.
- 32:26Speaker 1: Just scroll down and you can see it. on the
- 32:27Speaker 1: main page as well, and of course, YouTube channel at
- 32:30Speaker 1: Tech Talk Radio.
- 32:31Speaker 2: Yeah, but this is just so shiny. It's crazy.
- 32:34Speaker 1: That is really cool.
- 32:35Speaker 2: I was not expecting it to be this shiny, but
- 32:37Speaker 2: this looks really good.
- 32:40Speaker 1: Now, that is a protective cover, right? Is that the deal?
- 32:43Speaker 2: This cover just comes on the back, too, but it's
- 32:47Speaker 2: got a hole in the bottom, so your power and your...
- 32:50Speaker 2: So this is just where your HDMI plug and your
- 32:54Speaker 2: power and your LAN port are. Because the Switch 2
- 32:57Speaker 2: has a wired LAN port where the original Switch, the
- 33:01Speaker 2: original Switch had a, you had to buy a dongle,
- 33:04Speaker 2: USB dongle for Ethernet. Because it was only wireless. All right.
- 33:09Speaker 2: So then here's the Joy-Cons.
- 33:10Speaker 1: So if you want to, or you can use it wirelessly, right?
- 33:12Speaker 2: You can.
- 33:13Speaker 1: Yes.
- 33:13Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 33:14Speaker 1: Okay.
- 33:15Speaker 4: Good.
- 33:15Speaker 2: But, you know, you get better speeds and stuff. All right.
- 33:18Speaker 1: So here are the Joy-Cons.
- 33:20Speaker 2: So the Joy-Cons are green.
- 33:22Speaker 1: Oh, that's cool.
- 33:23Speaker 2: Got the Zelda icons on there. So this is the
- 33:27Speaker 2: right Joy-Con.
- 33:28Speaker 1: It's kind of a good coloring on that.
- 33:30Speaker 2: Yeah, so the green is really cool. So then the Joy-Cons,
- 33:33Speaker 2: and then here's the actual.
- 33:37Speaker 1: Now there's another piece out of this.
- 33:38Speaker 2: Well, this is the actual switch.
- 33:41Speaker 1: Oh, that was just the docking station. This is the dock. Okay,
- 33:44Speaker 1: all right, cool.
- 33:45Speaker 2: Yeah, so here's the actual switch.
- 33:48Speaker 1: Oh, look at that.
- 33:49Speaker 2: So it's got the, you know, so you can set
- 33:53Speaker 2: it down.
- 33:53Speaker 4: Wow.
- 33:54Speaker 2: I'm out there, so it's got the OLED screen on
- 33:56Speaker 2: the front.
- 33:56Speaker 1: It's big.
- 33:57Speaker 4: Nice.
- 33:58Speaker 2: It's bigger than my iPad Mini, I think.
- 34:01Speaker 1: That is good.
- 34:01Speaker 2: The cool thing about the Switch 2, and this is
- 34:03Speaker 2: not a new thing, right? When the Switch 2 came
- 34:05Speaker 2: out two years ago or whatever, they're magnetic Joy-Cons, right?
- 34:09Speaker 2: So you just, you click them in.
- 34:11Speaker 3: Right.
- 34:12Speaker 2: So they're not, but they're kind of a, they're not
- 34:15Speaker 2: slide down like on the original Switch.
- 34:17Speaker 1: Right, and snap, yeah. Okay.
- 34:20Speaker 2: So then there you go. I'm playing, I'm off, like
- 34:22Speaker 2: I can, So there they are mounted in there.
- 34:25Speaker 4: Right.
- 34:26Speaker 2: And I've got the full functionality of playing it. I mean,
- 34:29Speaker 2: this screen is big.
- 34:31Speaker 1: That is pretty neat. I like the coloring on it, too.
- 34:33Speaker 2: Yeah, the coloring is great. So then, you know, when
- 34:36Speaker 2: you want to play it on the dock, you just
- 34:37Speaker 2: drop it in.
- 34:39Speaker 1: Now, there is a Nintendo store you can go to.
- 34:41Speaker 1: You could play some of the classic games. You could
- 34:43Speaker 1: play Mario on that, right? Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 34:46Speaker 2: So you have to have a subscription to their online
- 34:48Speaker 2: service to play original Nintendo, Super Nintendo 64. you know,
- 34:55Speaker 2: Game Boy, Game Boy DS, whole bunch of stuff.
- 34:59Speaker 1: Now, when you get Ocarina of Time Wednesday, you've already
- 35:03Speaker 1: ordered it, right?
- 35:04Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 35:05Speaker 2: I got to go pick it up from Best Buy
- 35:07Speaker 2: at some point on Thursday. They are doing a midnight release.
- 35:11Speaker 2: So this is the first time Best Buy has done
- 35:12Speaker 2: a midnight release in a long time. Wow. So I
- 35:15Speaker 2: could go get it at midnight Wednesday night, but I won't.
- 35:19Speaker 2: All right. Because I've got kids and I'm tired.
- 35:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 35:23Speaker 2: So I'll go pick it up at some point Thursday.
- 35:28Speaker 1: But they won't sell yours out.
- 35:30Speaker 2: I sure hope not.
- 35:33Speaker 1: That would not be good.
- 35:33Speaker 2: I'll probably get it Thursday. I'll probably, after I drop
- 35:35Speaker 2: the boys off at daycare, go get it and come
- 35:38Speaker 2: home and play for a couple hours before I go
- 35:40Speaker 2: to work.
- 35:41Speaker 1: Right. Now, are you going to power that up? And
- 35:44Speaker 1: how long will it take to do a full charge?
- 35:45Speaker 1: Once you unbox it.
- 35:47Speaker 2: I'd have to see. I could plug it in and see.
- 35:49Speaker 1: Do you have to plug it into the dock? No,
- 35:52Speaker 1: you don't. It's handheld, right?
- 35:53Speaker 2: I can just plug it in.
- 35:55Speaker 1: Now, again, this is the Nintendo Switch.
- 35:57Speaker 2: It's got a good battery on it. All right.
- 35:59Speaker 1: It's available pretty much anywhere you can. Yeah, I mean,
- 36:04Speaker 1: you got to go.
- 36:05Speaker 2: You actually have to go to store. You're not going to.
- 36:08Speaker 2: I spent a lot of time trying to get it online.
- 36:12Speaker 2: I got it from Nintendo. Oh, I also got one
- 36:15Speaker 2: more thing.
- 36:16Speaker 1: Yeah, all right.
- 36:17Speaker 2: Hold on.
- 36:17Speaker 1: Here we go. Oh, look at this.
- 36:19Speaker 2: Forgot I bought this, too.
- 36:20Speaker 1: Even more to show in this special segment of Tech
- 36:24Speaker 1: Talk Radio. Again, don't forget, you can follow this, watch
- 36:27Speaker 1: it at Tech Talk Radio on YouTube. Give us a like,
- 36:31Speaker 1: subscribe while you're there. I also got the Pro Controller. Now,
- 36:35Speaker 1: what is the difference between that?
- 36:37Speaker 2: This is actually like a controller.
- 36:39Speaker 1: A separate controller.
- 36:40Speaker 2: Yeah, a separate controller, but it's got the design.
- 36:43Speaker 1: Right.
- 36:43Speaker 2: Let me pull this out of here so we can
- 36:45Speaker 2: show this to you.
- 36:46Speaker 1: And this is, you still have to this date not
- 36:49Speaker 1: watched the trailer I sent you.
- 36:50Speaker 2: No, so I watched the original release trailer, like the
- 36:53Speaker 2: announcement trailer, and I haven't watched any. I've avoided as
- 36:56Speaker 2: much as humanly possible.
- 36:58Speaker 1: Right.
- 36:59Speaker 2: So USB-A to USB-C.
- 37:01Speaker 1: Good.
- 37:02Speaker 2: So you can charge it on the back of the Switch.
- 37:04Speaker 2: And then just the controller itself, which is themed.
- 37:09Speaker 1: Wow.
- 37:09Speaker 2: Oh, I almost knocked over my soda. So it's the same,
- 37:11Speaker 2: same thing, same.
- 37:13Speaker 1: Nice. I like the look. So. That is cool. Ocarina
- 37:18Speaker 1: of Time, Legend of Zelda. It's the special edition available now.
- 37:23Speaker 1: Now you've got it. Now you just have to wait
- 37:25Speaker 1: for Thursday. Do me a favor. Take pictures when you're
- 37:29Speaker 1: there just to see if people are still getting.
- 37:33Speaker 2: I'm on the fence about... A buddy of mine wants
- 37:35Speaker 2: to go to the midnight release to pick his up.
- 37:37Speaker 2: I would. I might. I think the last midnight release
- 37:41Speaker 2: I went to was in 2008.
- 37:42Speaker 4: Oh, man.
- 37:42Speaker 3: So.
- 37:45Speaker 2: I'm excited about this. It's powered up. It's ready to go.
- 37:49Speaker 2: So I got to sign in and link it to
- 37:52Speaker 2: my Nintendo account and all that stuff. But yeah, it
- 37:54Speaker 2: took me a minute. I was hard pressed not to
- 37:57Speaker 2: do it without you because we talked about doing it
- 38:00Speaker 2: on the show.
- 38:01Speaker 4: Right.
- 38:02Speaker 2: So great. Perfect.
- 38:03Speaker 1: So coming up, Tyler Butler, who is the anchor for
- 38:07Speaker 1: KMSB Fox 11 and KLD TV News 13. They are
- 38:10Speaker 1: doing podcasts, video casts. And everybody pretty much on the
- 38:14Speaker 1: staff is doing them. I like Tyler's because it talks
- 38:17Speaker 1: about some of the fun stuff, vehicles. It talks about trains.
- 38:20Speaker 1: It talks about ocean liners. We're going to talk about
- 38:23Speaker 1: him actually going to where the USS United States is
- 38:28Speaker 1: going to be sunk at and more reporting from that
- 38:30Speaker 1: all coming up on Tech Talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor.
- 38:33Speaker 2: I'm Sean DeWeerd. Find us on the web at techtalkradio.com.
- 38:36Speaker 2: We'll be right back.
- 38:38Speaker 1: And now, back to Tech Talk Radio.
- 38:40Speaker 4: All right, people, break out your notebooks and pencils and
- 38:43Speaker 4: slide rules. You're listening to Tech Talk Radio with true geeks.
- 38:47Speaker 4: And by the way, I'm Dee Snider, and I'm a geek, too.
- 38:52Speaker 1: So, no doubt, this week's show has been kind of personal.
- 38:56Speaker 1: I've Justin talking about him buying the RV, and then
- 39:00Speaker 1: Sean unboxing his new Nintendo Switch 2, the Ocarina of
- 39:03Speaker 1: Time Legends of Zelda Special Edition. And for me, to
- 39:07Speaker 1: be able to talk with my friend Tyler Butler, who
- 39:10Speaker 1: is with us, who produces a video podcast for KLD
- 39:15Speaker 1: TV News 13. Of course, he's the morning anchor for
- 39:18Speaker 1: that and KMSB Fox 11, which we do our segments on.
- 39:22Speaker 1: And it was funny because one day I had seen
- 39:24Speaker 1: a post from Tyler and it featured one of the
- 39:27Speaker 1: things I've been passionate about over the years, the SS
- 39:30Speaker 1: United States in the background. I'm like, hey, wait, I've
- 39:33Speaker 1: been on that. And it was really cool to be
- 39:36Speaker 1: able to interact with Tyler and find out he's been
- 39:39Speaker 1: to the ship, of course, took photos. And there's a
- 39:42Speaker 1: lot been going on in the last few years for
- 39:45Speaker 1: a ship that entered service back in 1952, went out
- 39:48Speaker 1: of service in 1969. So you're thinking about 16, 17 years.
- 39:52Speaker 1: A lot of us have cars that have lasted longer
- 39:55Speaker 1: than that. A lot of these ships back in the day,
- 39:57Speaker 1: they were built for 30, 40-year lifespans, not 15, 16.
- 40:01Speaker 1: Your podcast, videocast, is called Wheels, Wings, and Rails. And
- 40:05Speaker 1: it focuses, what, on pretty much everything transportation?
- 40:09Speaker 5: Planes, trains, and automobiles, man. So we did, of course,
- 40:14Speaker 5: the United States is a passion project of mine. I've
- 40:16Speaker 5: been on board twice now. I'm envious of you because
- 40:19Speaker 5: you got to go on board when it was, you know, functioning. Yeah,
- 40:23Speaker 5: I've only been on board while it's been stripped post-asbestos
- 40:26Speaker 5: removal and there's nothing in it. Did an episode on that,
- 40:29Speaker 5: the SR-71, because there's some talk about Are they potentially
- 40:32Speaker 5: reactivating one? The steam engine we've got in downtown Tucson.
- 40:36Speaker 5: So if it's got a motor, we want to do
- 40:39Speaker 5: the podcast about it.
- 40:40Speaker 1: That is perfect. You know, over the years when, you know,
- 40:44Speaker 1: it obviously was docked and there were so many different
- 40:47Speaker 1: things going on, we had the opportunity. We've had two
- 40:50Speaker 1: people involved with the SS United States on the show.
- 40:54Speaker 1: Ed Cantor, who was an owner at one time, who
- 40:57Speaker 1: got it back in the late 90s. It's like been sold. auctioned.
- 41:02Speaker 1: People couldn't pay the fees for it to be at
- 41:05Speaker 1: the dock. The S.S. United States Conservancy has had it
- 41:09Speaker 1: for a while. It had to be tough, especially for you,
- 41:12Speaker 1: as passionate as I am about it, too, when you
- 41:15Speaker 1: got the news that, yeah, they're going to finally put
- 41:18Speaker 1: it to rest. Yeah.
- 41:20Speaker 5: And, you know, I remember being at a book fair
- 41:24Speaker 5: as I think seven or eight years old and You know,
- 41:28Speaker 5: the highlight of that was the Wienermobile was there, so
- 41:30Speaker 5: I got to see that. But my mom also, she
- 41:32Speaker 5: got a book. And it was kind of, it was
- 41:35Speaker 5: aimed a little younger than me, but it was a
- 41:37Speaker 5: book from the fifties. And it was about the SS
- 41:39Speaker 5: United States. Cause I was, you know, I'm one of
- 41:42Speaker 5: these nineties kids that grew up with Titanic and that
- 41:44Speaker 5: being the zeitgeist. And then that started spilling into other ships.
- 41:48Speaker 5: And so I'd never heard about the United States until
- 41:50Speaker 5: this book. And so then I kind of forgot about it.
- 41:53Speaker 5: And then I find out as I start my journalism career,
- 41:56Speaker 5: that it not only still exists, but it's like two
- 41:59Speaker 5: hours up the road in Philadelphia. And, uh, So at
- 42:03Speaker 5: that point was about the time the Conservancy, I believe
- 42:06Speaker 5: they'd just taken control of it. And they were trying
- 42:09Speaker 5: to find any number of options of places to move it,
- 42:13Speaker 5: dock it, turn it into a museum. There was a
- 42:15Speaker 5: period of time where Crystal Cruises had a contract and
- 42:19Speaker 5: they did surveys of the ship and studied the hull
- 42:21Speaker 5: and found that I think it was like 95% of
- 42:24Speaker 5: its hull integrity was still intact after decades of neglect.
- 42:29Speaker 5: But it was just too costly for them to refurbish it.
- 42:32Speaker 5: Because again, as I mentioned earlier, they gutted this thing
- 42:36Speaker 5: because of all the 1950s miracle material asbestos. And they
- 42:40Speaker 5: just did it everywhere because the designer, Francis Gibbs, was
- 42:43Speaker 5: so paranoid about fire for good reason. They had a
- 42:46Speaker 5: number of bad fires in World War II that cost
- 42:49Speaker 5: the Normandy beautiful ship destroyed by fire. You put water
- 42:53Speaker 5: on a fire on a ship, gets top heavy, it capsizes.
- 42:56Speaker 1: The pictures are horrifying of that one on its side. Oh, yeah.
- 43:00Speaker 2: It's horrible.
- 43:00Speaker 5: And that was one of the great losses of the
- 43:03Speaker 5: war just in terms of ships. And that didn't have
- 43:05Speaker 5: to happen. They had to remove all the asbestos. There's
- 43:08Speaker 5: nothing inside of it anymore. And it was just too
- 43:11Speaker 5: costly for Crystal to, you know, put all the modern
- 43:14Speaker 5: plumbing you'd have to and then the interior and stuff.
- 43:16Speaker 5: And then, yeah, it got to a point where I
- 43:18Speaker 5: think the dock up in Philadelphia like doubled their rent
- 43:21Speaker 5: or something like that.
- 43:22Speaker 1: Mm hmm.
- 43:23Speaker 5: Because they were tired. They had that thing there since
- 43:25Speaker 5: the 90s. They wanted to get rid of it. Okaloosa
- 43:27Speaker 5: County comes in, says, we'll buy it. We'll turn it
- 43:29Speaker 5: into the world's largest artificial reef. There is a lot
- 43:33Speaker 5: of discourse online, as I'm sure you have seen, of
- 43:36Speaker 5: people that this is the worst thing that has ever happened.
- 43:39Speaker 2: And it's unbelievable.
- 43:41Speaker 5: Unfortunately, realistically, I think it just got to a point
- 43:44Speaker 5: where you had two options. And one is you send
- 43:47Speaker 5: it off to India. It gets cut up into pieces
- 43:50Speaker 5: and razor blades, and there's nothing left. Or you turn
- 43:53Speaker 5: it into something that, yes, it's not accessible to the
- 43:56Speaker 5: general public. But if you have a scuba certification, and
- 44:00Speaker 5: there are companies that are already selling trips out there,
- 44:03Speaker 5: you can go out and you can see the ship.
- 44:05Speaker 5: And it provides an ecosystem out there in the Gulf.
- 44:09Speaker 1: During this process, though, Tyler, it's been kind of interesting.
- 44:12Speaker 1: We've seen them preserve some of the elements, like the stacks.
- 44:17Speaker 1: Those stacks were very unique looking compared to, say, the
- 44:20Speaker 1: Queen Mary ships. or the other Cunard ships, you look
- 44:23Speaker 1: at the stacks, they were streamlined, they had something about them,
- 44:26Speaker 1: they've been able to save those. And some other things
- 44:29Speaker 1: that they have saved over the years that I guess
- 44:31Speaker 1: are going to be put into some kind of a
- 44:33Speaker 1: museum that the Conservancy is putting together.
- 44:36Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 44:36Speaker 5: And that's the plan when I go to Mobile. I'm
- 44:40Speaker 5: going to be in Mobile this weekend. And the plan
- 44:42Speaker 5: is on Monday, the weather cooperates. I'll be out there
- 44:45Speaker 5: on the Perdido Queen as they tow the United States out.
- 44:49Speaker 5: It's going to take them a couple of days to
- 44:50Speaker 5: get it set. But while I'm in Mobile, I'm going
- 44:52Speaker 5: to drive down to do the peek through the fence
- 44:56Speaker 5: thing to see the funnels because they preserve the funnels,
- 44:59Speaker 5: the mast. I think the last thing they took off
- 45:01Speaker 5: was like the last remaining anchor that's truly from the ship.
- 45:05Speaker 5: It wasn't just thrown on there to give it an anchor.
- 45:08Speaker 5: Propeller too, right? Propeller, yeah, they had one on the
- 45:12Speaker 5: stern that if you look at pictures, the rear deck was,
- 45:17Speaker 5: the railing was all bent and twisted because when they
- 45:19Speaker 5: did the work, which I believe was in Odessa in Ukraine,
- 45:23Speaker 5: they just dragged the propeller across the stern of the
- 45:26Speaker 5: ship to get it in position. So they did that
- 45:29Speaker 5: and then it looks like they've added on the front
- 45:32Speaker 5: of the bridge, there's I think three plaques there now
- 45:34Speaker 5: for like paddy, and a couple other scuba organizations, Ocaloosa County.
- 45:40Speaker 5: And I believe that's where the builder's plaque was. So
- 45:43Speaker 5: I think they took the builder's plaque off.
- 45:45Speaker 2: I'm not sure.
- 45:46Speaker 5: Maybe I'll find out if I happen to get on
- 45:48Speaker 5: there on Sunday, but I think they preserved that.
- 45:51Speaker 1: This is amazing, Tyler. You're actually going to be there
- 45:55Speaker 1: when they start this process to put it underwater. I mean,
- 46:00Speaker 1: Have they released any information of how they're going to
- 46:04Speaker 1: do that?
- 46:04Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 46:04Speaker 5: So the plan is and I'd love to. The plan
- 46:08Speaker 5: is Thursday of next week and I'd love to be there.
- 46:11Speaker 5: But we've got a live show that I that my
- 46:13Speaker 5: my wife's in charge of the station. And so I'm like,
- 46:16Speaker 5: I have to be there for Friday. So I'm missing that.
- 46:20Speaker 5: I can't be like, sure, I'll be there Friday. Let
- 46:23Speaker 5: me just go do this thing that may or may
- 46:25Speaker 5: not take eight hours. So they're going to tow it
- 46:28Speaker 5: out on Monday. They're going to get it out to
- 46:30Speaker 5: this site, which is about 20 to 30 miles offshore.
- 46:33Speaker 5: And they're going to spend a couple of days there,
- 46:35Speaker 5: I think, getting it positioned just right and doing some
- 46:38Speaker 5: final checks. The big worry, of course, is that you
- 46:42Speaker 5: need this thing to sink in. level you can't do
- 46:45Speaker 5: a big titanic stern rise up and because then it'll
- 46:48Speaker 5: it'll hit the bottom it'll roll and you want it
- 46:51Speaker 5: to be sitting there nice and level and upright so
- 46:53Speaker 5: people when they're diving on it you know know what
- 46:56Speaker 5: they're looking at and so uh take them a couple
- 46:59Speaker 5: days and then yes thursday they plan to i guess
- 47:02Speaker 5: punch the final hole or whatever it is they're going
- 47:04Speaker 5: to do and then the plan is to slowly have
- 47:06Speaker 5: it just kind of settle in the water so it's
- 47:08Speaker 5: not going to be dramatic. There was some movie back
- 47:11Speaker 5: in the day, I think it was with the Ile
- 47:13Speaker 5: de France, that they sunk, they partially sunk the ship.
- 47:18Speaker 1: It was called The Last Voyage with Robert Stack. It's
- 47:23Speaker 1: one of those I love to watch. And then, you know,
- 47:25Speaker 1: as a kid, it was just amazing because I knew
- 47:27Speaker 1: I'd been on an ocean liner. I'd been on a boat.
- 47:30Speaker 1: And then you find out it was a real ship
- 47:32Speaker 1: that they went ahead and just got rid of, the
- 47:34Speaker 1: Ile de France.
- 47:35Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 47:35Speaker 5: And so they're trying not to do that. And They
- 47:38Speaker 5: haven't removed the funnel, so they can't do this weird
- 47:40Speaker 5: gimmicky half the funnel snaps forward thing.
- 47:42Speaker 2: That they did in that movie.
- 47:44Speaker 5: But so they say they're going to live stream it.
- 47:48Speaker 5: Thanks to Starlink these days. I mean, you know, say
- 47:52Speaker 5: what you will about the company and the man and
- 47:54Speaker 5: all that. The fact that the technology exists, that you
- 47:56Speaker 5: can have live, that you can be live on the
- 48:00Speaker 5: Internet streaming out in the middle of the ocean. Five,
- 48:02Speaker 5: 10 years ago, that was.
- 48:03Speaker 3: Wow. Unreal.
- 48:05Speaker 5: So, yeah, they plan to have it so you can
- 48:07Speaker 5: live stream and watch it sync, which, yes, that's what
- 48:10Speaker 5: I'm going to be doing.
- 48:11Speaker 1: It's going to be it's going to be pretty amazing.
- 48:14Speaker 1: And I like the fact that, too, with your passions,
- 48:17Speaker 1: I want to say thank you because you you created
- 48:21Speaker 1: this for me. This is when we talked about the S.S.
- 48:24Speaker 1: United States. You did this with a 3D printer and
- 48:27Speaker 1: this is really great work. It came out fantastic. But
- 48:31Speaker 1: what is a process like this? Was it was it difficult?
- 48:35Speaker 2: Not too bad.
- 48:35Speaker 5: So what's great about 3D printing is like, you know,
- 48:38Speaker 5: I've got this Majora's Mask thing. You were talking about Zelda.
- 48:41Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 48:41Speaker 5: The Majora's Mask thing here. That's all 3D printed. And
- 48:45Speaker 5: the 3D printing community is phenomenal for just free stuff.
- 48:50Speaker 1: Yeah. Templates.
- 48:51Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly.
- 48:52Speaker 5: The template for the SS United States was just there.
- 48:54Speaker 5: And so I had to just load in the colors
- 48:56Speaker 5: and print away. And I tried to scale it. I've
- 48:59Speaker 5: got four or five of these ships now at my desk.
- 49:02Speaker 5: So I'm trying to keep them all in like a
- 49:03Speaker 5: one to, I think it's one to 2000 scale is
- 49:06Speaker 5: what I've got.
- 49:07Speaker 1: That is great. And then, of course, you have a
- 49:09Speaker 1: passion for autos. You know, Justin will talk about his
- 49:13Speaker 1: Tesla that he loves. Now he's got an RV to
- 49:16Speaker 1: go with it. Sean just bought himself a truck. But
- 49:19Speaker 1: come on, you got a DeLorean. i just i absolutely
- 49:22Speaker 1: love that i watched the show the other day i
- 49:24Speaker 1: saw a delorean in it and i said i gotta
- 49:26Speaker 1: tell tyler about that.
- 49:29Speaker 5: It's i've had that car for 20 years as of
- 49:31Speaker 5: last week uh and i did not win coolest car
- 49:34Speaker 5: in high school i lost to some kid whose parents
- 49:36Speaker 5: bought him a bmw z4 uh.
- 49:39Speaker 2: Not cooler.
- 49:40Speaker 1: I don't think it's cooler. No, no.
- 49:42Speaker 5: But no, it's it's been that car gets such a
- 49:45Speaker 5: bad rap from people that are like, oh, it's terrible.
- 49:47Speaker 2: And it is slow. I will say that.
- 49:50Speaker 5: But it's like, oh, yeah, it's it looks fast.
- 49:53Speaker 1: It's slow.
- 49:55Speaker 5: But once you kind of sort through every car's got
- 49:57Speaker 5: its reliability issues, once you sort the reliability issues on
- 50:00Speaker 5: that car, it's just like any other old car, except
- 50:03Speaker 5: it gets a lot more attention.
- 50:05Speaker 1: Well, DeLorean helped develop my first car, which was a Vega.
- 50:10Speaker 1: There's something there. Another coincidence, too, is the fact that
- 50:14Speaker 1: I ran a store in the Pointy Hills Mall. And that,
- 50:18Speaker 1: of course, when it was a bumping, busy mall, that
- 50:21Speaker 1: was the mall where they filmed Back to the Future,
- 50:24Speaker 1: which is kind of neat. And there's usually a track.
- 50:26Speaker 1: The mall's gone now or closed. But there's a track
- 50:29Speaker 1: that goes out there. They're turning it into a data center.
- 50:31Speaker 2: Oh, no.
- 50:32Speaker 1: Is it really?
- 50:33Speaker 5: Turning it into a data center. And they just had,
- 50:38Speaker 5: I guess, the 41st anniversary of the Back to the
- 50:41Speaker 5: Future date.
- 50:41Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 50:42Speaker 5: And they typically do it at the mall. I was
- 50:43Speaker 5: out there last year for the 40th and rode my car,
- 50:45Speaker 5: and it was fantastic. But this year, the mall threw
- 50:50Speaker 5: up fences, blocked them out. So last year was the
- 50:53Speaker 5: last year they're doing it, and now it's going through
- 50:55Speaker 5: that whole.
- 50:56Speaker 1: Demolition or whatever. People could definitely keep in touch and
- 51:00Speaker 1: keep an eye on some of this stuff happening. Are
- 51:03Speaker 1: you going to be live streaming at all or doing
- 51:06Speaker 1: this stuff on Facebook or social media?
- 51:08Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 51:09Speaker 5: So I'll be doing the hope is, again, we'll talk
- 51:13Speaker 5: with the company behind the sinking of the ship. I'll
- 51:16Speaker 5: be doing that interview on Sunday. So I'll have that
- 51:18Speaker 5: as a podcast should be by next Friday. And then
- 51:22Speaker 5: Monday morning, I'll be live on air with 13 News
- 51:26Speaker 5: and KMSB on Fox 11 to do that there as well.
- 51:29Speaker 5: And then I probably will do some Facebook live streaming
- 51:32Speaker 5: at some point because it's like this is the last
- 51:34Speaker 5: chance to see one of the last great ocean liners,
- 51:38Speaker 5: not under our own power, but moving and alive in
- 51:43Speaker 5: a sense.
- 51:44Speaker 1: Well, we want our listeners to check it out. Wheels,
- 51:46Speaker 1: Wings and Rails, Tyler Butler. Great to talk to you,
- 51:49Speaker 1: and I'm looking forward to seeing the coverage from this.
- 51:51Speaker 1: Thanks for coming on the show.
- 51:53Speaker 2: Thank you, sir.
- 51:53Speaker 5: Appreciate it.
- 51:54Speaker 1: All right, we'll be back with more of Tech Talk Radio.
- 51:57Speaker 1: Standing by. And now, back to Tech Talk Radio.
- 52:00Speaker 3: All right, we have a listener question from Catherine in Tucson.
- 52:06Speaker 3: She says, I have a son who's a gamer and
- 52:08Speaker 3: is super.
- 52:08Speaker 1: Excited about GTA 6. Oh, yeah. Everybody is.
- 52:13Speaker 3: She said that he knows it's going to be a
- 52:14Speaker 3: large download. Is there a ready-made solution for storage? For
- 52:18Speaker 3: PlayStation and Xbox, there is. You can buy basically a
- 52:23Speaker 3: solid state drive that plugs in. There is an expansion
- 52:27Speaker 3: port on the back. Now, it depends on which Xbox
- 52:29Speaker 3: we're talking about. If we're talking about the latest generation,
- 52:32Speaker 3: the Xbox Series X or Series S, yes, there is
- 52:36Speaker 3: a port on the back that you can plug in
- 52:39Speaker 3: an officially licensed Microsoft extra storage. I think they come
- 52:43Speaker 3: in one terabyte, two terabytes even. And I believe there's
- 52:47Speaker 3: also the same for the PlayStation. It is an external
- 52:50Speaker 3: drive that plugs directly into the back of that.
- 52:53Speaker 1: Now, real quick, I think the most recent PlayStations, they
- 52:58Speaker 1: have an M2 slot that you could also... This is
- 53:01Speaker 1: basically an M2 slot. Yeah, yeah.
- 53:02Speaker 3: So that's right. The PlayStation has an M2. Xbox is a...
- 53:07Speaker 3: It's a proprietary connector on the back, but it's kind
- 53:11Speaker 3: of the same idea. The one thing about GTA 6, though,
- 53:13Speaker 3: is if... he's thinking that he is going to play
- 53:18Speaker 3: that game on the launch day. You may want to
- 53:22Speaker 3: tell him it's not going to happen because when it
- 53:25Speaker 3: gets launched, historically, this happens.
- 53:28Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 53:28Speaker 3: Well, first off, historically, it's going to happen, but you're
- 53:30Speaker 3: going to have millions, tens of millions of people trying
- 53:35Speaker 3: to download this game at the same time. And again,
- 53:38Speaker 3: like you said, Catherine, it is a large download. It
- 53:42Speaker 3: is going to take if not the entire day, to download.
- 53:49Speaker 2: This is why all the data centers have been built,
- 53:50Speaker 2: so people can download the game.
- 53:52Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. Rockstar, yeah, absolutely. I've heard 230 gigabytes. Yeah,
- 53:58Speaker 1: and it is going to take forever to download. And
- 54:01Speaker 1: with all those people trying to download it, you're not
- 54:03Speaker 1: going to get the fastest speeds. So if your son
- 54:06Speaker 1: is expecting to play it on launch day, it's probably
- 54:09Speaker 1: not going to happen. All right, quick question. Why doesn't
- 54:11Speaker 1: a manufacturer come up with Here is a drive and
- 54:15Speaker 1: it's got the game loaded, ready to go. Is it
- 54:18Speaker 1: just because you've got a software company and a hardware
- 54:20Speaker 1: company that are separate? Like Rockstar couldn't get into something
- 54:25Speaker 1: like this? That'd be kind of an idea, wouldn't it?
- 54:28Speaker 4: A one-off?
- 54:30Speaker 3: You're basically talking about releasing a disc like we used
- 54:33Speaker 3: to do. where you could just take the disc, put
- 54:36Speaker 3: it in your system, and play it. No, everything has
- 54:38Speaker 3: gone digital now, where you have to download it, and
- 54:40Speaker 3: you can't download it until it's officially released. Now, there
- 54:44Speaker 3: is a caveat to this, and I don't recommend it,
- 54:47Speaker 3: but on the PlayStation, I'm sorry, on the Xbox, if
- 54:51Speaker 3: you set your console's time zone to New Zealand, you
- 54:56Speaker 3: can play the game 18 hours earlier than everybody else.
- 55:00Speaker 3: On PlayStation, you have to create a whole new account
- 55:03Speaker 3: and set your time zone to be New Zealand, then yes,
- 55:07Speaker 3: you will be able to access the game download 18
- 55:10Speaker 3: hours before anybody else does.
- 55:12Speaker 1: We're not guaranteeing this, but something to check out. All right,
- 55:16Speaker 1: that is it for this week's Tech Talk Radio. So
- 55:19Speaker 1: much great stuff. I'm Andy Taylor.
- 55:21Speaker 2: I'm Sean DeWeer.
- 55:22Speaker 1: And I'm Justin Lemme. Send us a tweet at Tech
- 55:25Speaker 1: Talk Radio. Have yourselves a great week. We'll see you.
