- 0:20Speaker 1: My keV.
- 0:21Speaker 2: I'm listener a Lost Souls and today I think we're
- 0:23Speaker 2: going to talk about our new album, Law.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Which is coming out April eight eights.
- 0:27Speaker 3: It is indeed, keV, thanks for joining us today.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Brother, that's a pleasure, my dude.
- 0:32Speaker 4: So, as you say, my friend Lotsos release your debut
- 0:35Speaker 4: album Law on April the eighteenth, like giving you a
- 0:38Speaker 4: phenomenal on rapid rise to glory.
- 0:40Speaker 3: How are you feeling about it?
- 0:41Speaker 2: Oh, dude, I'm just absolutely so stoked. I mean, you know,
- 0:45Speaker 2: we worked really hard on.
- 0:47Speaker 1: On this album.
- 0:50Speaker 2: You know, I guess every band loves their own album,
- 0:53Speaker 2: but it just feels like it's it's you know, I
- 0:56Speaker 2: really feel like we haven't got any Fellers on there.
- 0:59Speaker 2: So it really pumped for everybody to hear the different
- 1:02Speaker 2: kind of lyrical content we're covering it and hear all
- 1:05Speaker 2: those fat breakdowns and killer riffs.
- 1:09Speaker 4: Essentially Bright like gives you some metaphour album at it's heart.
- 1:12Speaker 4: But I didn't say much more than that, mate. Like
- 1:14Speaker 4: when I was listening through it last night, it actually
- 1:16Speaker 4: sounds like violence for most of it. That's a new
- 1:20Speaker 4: one on me. I've never thought music sounded like violence before.
- 1:23Speaker 2: It's great, dude, that's a compliment.
- 1:25Speaker 1: I think away.
- 1:27Speaker 2: I talk about this a lot in interviews like this.
- 1:30Speaker 2: This music is more than just music. I mean when
- 1:34Speaker 2: when people that are into this music put it on,
- 1:37Speaker 2: they want to feel something like whether it's driving in
- 1:39Speaker 2: the car or you know, you feel it with your
- 1:42Speaker 2: whole body. I guess that's that's kind of what I
- 1:44Speaker 2: was referring to in in Moslaughters, that like, when you
- 1:48Speaker 2: when you see a band or hear a band, you
- 1:49Speaker 2: want to feel it in your chest. You don't just
- 1:51Speaker 2: want to hear it and tap away. So you know,
- 1:54Speaker 2: I guess violence is kind of the reaction that a
- 1:57Speaker 2: lot of us can't do a lot of the time
- 2:00Speaker 2: because we're we're functioning adults in society. But you know,
- 2:04Speaker 2: it doesn't mean those feelings are there, So you know,
- 2:06Speaker 2: it's nice to be able to get it out in
- 2:07Speaker 2: a healthy way.
- 2:09Speaker 4: Oh yeah, Now today you've released the singles Childhood Died
- 2:12Speaker 4: in the Return, My Soldiers, Rage, Don't for Meat, and
- 2:14Speaker 4: was Short. So someone who hasn't heard the album, are
- 2:17Speaker 4: they had good sonic representation or what do you expect or
- 2:19Speaker 4: the only scratching the surface?
- 2:21Speaker 2: I think that they're scratching the surface to be honest.
- 2:25Speaker 2: You know, those songs are very very hooky. You know,
- 2:30Speaker 2: they've got a certain sort of style. Where there's some
- 2:34Speaker 2: tracks on the album that are, you know, maybe a
- 2:36Speaker 2: little more new metal. There's a couple that are a
- 2:38Speaker 2: little bit more experimental with the guitar work and lyrically
- 2:42Speaker 2: as well. I guess there's a couple of tracks on
- 2:45Speaker 2: there that that aren't necessarily about, you know, the humorous
- 2:49Speaker 2: side of ADHD or or humorous at all. You know,
- 2:52Speaker 2: there's a couple of songs that I was almost, i guess,
- 2:55Speaker 2: reluctant to almost put out there because they're they're a
- 2:58Speaker 2: little bit more soul bearing. But I felt I felt
- 3:02Speaker 2: like it wouldn't be right just to only show kind
- 3:04Speaker 2: of like the positive feelings that come with you know,
- 3:09Speaker 2: dopamine or something like that. So yeah, it feels pretty
- 3:12Speaker 2: well versed, and I think a lot of a lot
- 3:14Speaker 2: of people might be surprised when they hear it start
- 3:17Speaker 2: to finish.
- 3:19Speaker 4: Now the band has gone viral across all platforms, made
- 3:21Speaker 4: the name on everyone's lips at the moment, So how
- 3:24Speaker 4: do you.
- 3:24Speaker 3: Measure the success of an album based on that?
- 3:26Speaker 4: Like anything under five million hits in the first twenty
- 3:28Speaker 4: four hours is of failure.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Yeah, dude, I don't know.
- 3:32Speaker 2: For us, it's just like having the album out is
- 3:35Speaker 2: a success in itself, Like we've always just made music
- 3:38Speaker 2: for ourselves, I guess, like, you know, we write these
- 3:44Speaker 2: songs who put our everything into it, and when people
- 3:47Speaker 2: hear it and resonate with it, it's fucking awesome, dude.
- 3:50Speaker 1: But it's not kind of the reason we go out
- 3:53Speaker 1: there and do it.
- 3:53Speaker 2: So even having the album out there, I mean, there
- 3:58Speaker 2: is a part of me that childhood died. I'd sat
- 4:00Speaker 2: on YouTube for about a year with maybe at nine
- 4:03Speaker 2: hundred two one thousand views, and not that I don't
- 4:07Speaker 2: appreciate everything that's happened, but like when it was sitting
- 4:10Speaker 2: there just clocking up, you know, one to ten per week,
- 4:13Speaker 2: it was weird.
- 4:14Speaker 1: It felt like you could.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Put an identity to each one of those people. So
- 4:17Speaker 2: you'd see it go up a little bit and like,
- 4:18Speaker 2: oh fuck, I hope that that specific person.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Wherever they are, enjoyed it.
- 4:22Speaker 2: So there is a point where the numbers get so
- 4:24Speaker 2: big you can't even like kind of fathom it. It
- 4:27Speaker 2: just becomes like a big number. So for us just
- 4:32Speaker 2: having this album recorded as a success and anything that
- 4:35Speaker 2: comes after it, dude, is like that's a bonus, you
- 4:38Speaker 2: know what I mean?
- 4:39Speaker 3: Yeah, you mentioned that childhood.
- 4:41Speaker 4: I'd sat on nine hundred one thousand for about twelve months,
- 4:44Speaker 4: Like what happened to actually break it? To make it
- 4:47Speaker 4: go from hovering around there to go and fucking way
- 4:50Speaker 4: up there?
- 4:52Speaker 1: Dude?
- 4:52Speaker 2: I wish I knew, to be honest, so like we
- 4:55Speaker 2: could just do it again and again and again. It
- 4:58Speaker 2: was just one of those things where I think maybe
- 5:00Speaker 2: that like the right kind of Reddit thread found it
- 5:03Speaker 2: or the right kind of somebody shared it, but it
- 5:07Speaker 2: was kind of just sort of out of nowhere. It
- 5:10Speaker 2: just kind of blew up, and then it just went
- 5:14Speaker 2: from from there, like the algorithm just gave us some love.
- 5:16Speaker 2: So that initial start was enough for us to be like,
- 5:20Speaker 2: oh quick, let's let's release another song like where we
- 5:23Speaker 2: released the Return, Yeah, that was next, and then and
- 5:28Speaker 2: then it was like, you know, the ping pong incident,
- 5:33Speaker 2: and that kind of that propelledest like massively, you.
- 5:39Speaker 4: Know, given the success all the singles have had from
- 5:41Speaker 4: the album made because there's kind of an enormous amount
- 5:44Speaker 4: of pressure on you going into the album release, Like,
- 5:47Speaker 4: I'm wondering if people are going to realate to the
- 5:49Speaker 4: rest of the album the way they have to the singles, Like,
- 5:52Speaker 4: is there is there a lot.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Of pressure, To be honest, I thought there would be,
- 5:58Speaker 2: But I'm that stoked with the tracks on the album.
- 6:04Speaker 2: That and being a first album, Like, we've had so
- 6:07Speaker 2: much time to write this. You know, a lot of
- 6:10Speaker 2: time band's first album was their best because they've had
- 6:13Speaker 2: so much time, and then they try and churn out
- 6:15Speaker 2: like the second album in a year while they're on
- 6:16Speaker 2: tour and stuff.
- 6:17Speaker 1: But no that they're.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Because my my favorite songs on there aren't even released,
- 6:23Speaker 2: you know what I mean. So I think if people
- 6:26Speaker 2: like what's already out, they're gonna like, they're gonna ship
- 6:28Speaker 2: when they hear this. I mean, even the second track
- 6:32Speaker 2: coming out of that intro like like and subscribe with
- 6:35Speaker 2: such like inimportant song for me to write. It's a
- 6:39Speaker 2: massive commentary on what I think about the state of
- 6:42Speaker 2: entertainment in the Internet. But god damn, even the breakdown
- 6:46Speaker 2: in that song in itself is just like when people
- 6:49Speaker 2: hear that, if they like our other shit, like, they're
- 6:51Speaker 2: gonna be stoked on this.
- 6:53Speaker 4: I'm Lady brought up the intro bro because Law opens
- 6:55Speaker 4: with the existence conflict, which it's got to slow atmosphere
- 6:58Speaker 4: build up before a disturbing monologue comes in that's underscored
- 7:02Speaker 4: by a haunting string arrangement.
- 7:03Speaker 3: This eerie is fuck made like it? Yeah, dude, what
- 7:08Speaker 3: was what was thought process behind that?
- 7:10Speaker 1: Well? It's weird.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Like so Casey, a guitarist, is like super into the
- 7:15Speaker 2: Library of Alexandra.
- 7:17Speaker 1: I don't know if you've heard of that.
- 7:18Speaker 2: It's like this this mythical library that apparently got destroyed
- 7:23Speaker 2: like thousands of years ago, and she's she's been looking
- 7:26Speaker 2: into different stuff from that, and she found this passage
- 7:32Speaker 2: that was apparently from that time, just about like if
- 7:36Speaker 2: existence can it like can conflict and existence? Can one
- 7:42Speaker 2: exist without the other one? And we just found it
- 7:44Speaker 2: really fucking cool, and so we wanted something to start
- 7:49Speaker 2: the album that was there was a little dark and
- 7:51Speaker 2: just kind of like a palate cleanser before you know,
- 7:54Speaker 2: like of subscribe slaps you in the face. So we just,
- 7:58Speaker 2: you know, the guys like Knocked and Casey and Jovie
- 8:01Speaker 2: sort of wrote this string arrangement which was really cool
- 8:04Speaker 2: and we just felt like it was a nice little
- 8:06Speaker 2: build up into into the rest of the album that
- 8:11Speaker 2: sort of comes in, and I guess it sets a
- 8:13Speaker 2: tone really well too, Like you know, it's a lot
- 8:15Speaker 2: of deep themes and just a really cool like passage.
- 8:20Speaker 4: Yeah, this might sound a little bit strange for one
- 8:22Speaker 4: of the first things I noticed about that, and one
- 8:24Speaker 4: of the things that I think is the best thing
- 8:25Speaker 4: about it, is the fact you use an Australian voice
- 8:29Speaker 4: for the monologue. And I had, like a lot of
- 8:30Speaker 4: bands go for the American James Old Jones type thing
- 8:32Speaker 4: or something to start an album with, but you guys
- 8:34Speaker 4: are stuck with an Australian accent, So kudos to you.
- 8:37Speaker 2: Yeah, dude, I mean, you know, there's like two of
- 8:41Speaker 2: us in the band are Australian. But because I'm the singer,
- 8:45Speaker 2: I guess I get to push that a little more,
- 8:47Speaker 2: you know what I.
- 8:48Speaker 1: Mean, Like a bit. Yeah, that's it. But no, there
- 8:52Speaker 1: was something cool.
- 8:52Speaker 2: There was something a little mad Max about it, I thought,
- 8:56Speaker 2: And dude, I don't know what it is, but like
- 8:57Speaker 2: everyone loves an Australian accent, you know what I mean,
- 9:00Speaker 2: So yeah, it felt it felt right to do.
- 9:04Speaker 4: So now there's one collaboration on the album with Jonathan
- 9:07Speaker 4: Vigil from The Ghost Inside on the track More Short.
- 9:09Speaker 3: So I got to say, mate, not a bad guest
- 9:11Speaker 3: artist to have on a debut album.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Oh dude, he's the best man. He's my best but
- 9:16Speaker 1: my best friend.
- 9:17Speaker 4: Now there's a touch of fanboy and almost fuck that
- 9:21Speaker 4: up before it got off the ground, though, Bye tell
- 9:22Speaker 4: us about that.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Oh dude, that was like that was a joke, Like,
- 9:28Speaker 2: you know, clearly, I was just like, you know, I
- 9:31Speaker 2: knew that there'd be a breakdown in that car, So
- 9:33Speaker 2: I was like, Oh, I'm gonna like pretend to freak
- 9:36Speaker 2: out and like pretend to ship my pants and not
- 9:39Speaker 2: actually do that, and then like head to the car
- 9:42Speaker 2: and then sure enough, you know, the car didn't start.
- 9:45Speaker 2: I don't even have my license, Like it was all
- 9:47Speaker 2: theatrical and then and then sure enough, you know, we
- 9:51Speaker 2: got the bones of that that breakdown. But like, yeah,
- 9:56Speaker 2: the working with with Vigil, dude was the best. Like,
- 10:00Speaker 2: I think The Ghost Inside is such a pivotal band
- 10:02Speaker 2: in that scene. They're like one of the most respected bands.
- 10:06Speaker 2: You know, every album is just a banger after banger,
- 10:10Speaker 2: So we weren't really looking to have a feature artist,
- 10:14Speaker 2: particularly for the album, but the way it just came
- 10:16Speaker 2: together it made sense. And I think the timing of
- 10:19Speaker 2: like you know, including Vigil announcing an album, it just
- 10:25Speaker 2: timed really well with people being like, oh shit, I
- 10:28Speaker 2: think I think Lost Souls are like, you know, for real,
- 10:31Speaker 2: They're not just a band that sings about star Wars
- 10:33Speaker 2: or something like that. They got you know, this heavy
- 10:36Speaker 2: hitter on there. They're really sing an album. So yeah,
- 10:39Speaker 2: the timing felt really good to get that kind of
- 10:41Speaker 2: validation from Veage as well.
- 10:43Speaker 4: And now Lost Soles basically came from nowhere last year
- 10:47Speaker 4: with the debut single Children Died. Like I you say
- 10:49Speaker 4: that it's sat on a round one thousand for twelve months,
- 10:52Speaker 4: but in the public eye, he's basically came from nowhere.
- 10:54Speaker 3: Made like the Depressions.
- 10:57Speaker 4: Release describes a band as an international c active of
- 11:00Speaker 4: musicians that came together in Australia.
- 11:03Speaker 3: So what's the backstory there?
- 11:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, you know, press releases are great and
- 11:08Speaker 2: making it sound like we, ah, we formed this vulture
- 11:11Speaker 2: of musicians, but like, uh, it was basically like we're
- 11:16Speaker 2: all just like skater kids and misfits and bombs and
- 11:20Speaker 2: you know, Yosh was here studying Yosha's our drummer, like
- 11:24Speaker 2: he was he was over here studying. Jovie was just
- 11:27Speaker 2: kicking around like traveling a little bit, and Knox was
- 11:33Speaker 2: like Knox moved here when he was super young too,
- 11:35Speaker 2: So uh, it was more just like we met at
- 11:38Speaker 2: like skate parks, and you know, as soon as you
- 11:41Speaker 2: see someone with a with a T shirt and a
- 11:43Speaker 2: bandy like like, oh shit, I love that band. You
- 11:45Speaker 2: know what else you went to, you start chatting. And
- 11:47Speaker 2: then the second they found out that they because I
- 11:52Speaker 2: was like a bit of Casey and I were like
- 11:55Speaker 2: late comers of the band like knocks Jovi and and
- 11:58Speaker 2: yosh were trying out for another band and they had
- 12:02Speaker 2: this like shit singer and Knox was like one of
- 12:05Speaker 2: my one of my bros. So I just went down
- 12:09Speaker 2: to watch and I just couldn't hold my tongue and
- 12:13Speaker 2: I kept telling this singer like he was shit. And
- 12:15Speaker 2: then basically they were like, oh, I'd like to see
- 12:18Speaker 2: you do better. I'm like, yeah, fucking finally, like give
- 12:20Speaker 2: me the mic, and then it was I don't know,
- 12:23Speaker 2: it was kind of from there, so yeah, like we've
- 12:26Speaker 2: got this, like I guess multicultural fruit salad in the band,
- 12:31Speaker 2: but it was just because like they were, they were
- 12:33Speaker 2: in proximity and we're all hanging out like being bombs,
- 12:36Speaker 2: you know what I mean.
- 12:37Speaker 3: That's cool.
- 12:38Speaker 4: You've released all of your music videos and animation, which
- 12:41Speaker 4: was obviously a clever marketing ploye from the start, But
- 12:44Speaker 4: how meticulously are you playing things initially? Like was it
- 12:46Speaker 4: a small idea that grew massive wings? So was it
- 12:49Speaker 4: more strategic chain of events from you guys?
- 12:53Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 12:54Speaker 2: The animation thing comes up a lot like it's a
- 12:57Speaker 2: it's a weird one because like we're just sort of
- 13:00Speaker 2: doing our thing, and I think maybe, like I thought
- 13:04Speaker 2: it might have even been like a like a new
- 13:07Speaker 2: term like you know, on an MSN messenger, like back
- 13:09Speaker 2: in the day, like people would put bree as their name.
- 13:12Speaker 1: For like you know, pig skills and stuff.
- 13:14Speaker 2: Like I thought animated was was maybe like the new
- 13:17Speaker 2: way to say like something's dope. But I think like
- 13:22Speaker 2: in terms of like did we plan to get massive?
- 13:25Speaker 2: I think every band simultaneously like kind of does and
- 13:31Speaker 2: doesn't at the same time, because like, on one hand,
- 13:35Speaker 2: it's like you know, your plan if you get massive
- 13:38Speaker 2: feels ridiculous. You always hope you were, and you think
- 13:41Speaker 2: your shit's good enough to And on the other hand,
- 13:43Speaker 2: you like you get that kind of pumped that of
- 13:48Speaker 2: course you you think it's going to blow up, because
- 13:51Speaker 2: it's like it has to. Not only are you psyched
- 13:54Speaker 2: on the music, but like, Okay, this is what I
- 13:56Speaker 2: want to do with the rest of my life. So
- 13:58Speaker 2: you kind of all in and I know a lot
- 14:00Speaker 2: of I think every band out there would relate to that.
- 14:04Speaker 2: We've just been fortunate enough that we had. You know,
- 14:10Speaker 2: it's funny like the Star Wars thing. I genuinely mean
- 14:16Speaker 2: every word of those songs, like they're not funny songs
- 14:19Speaker 2: to me. But I guess the way the internet works
- 14:22Speaker 2: and pop culture, like we tapped in a few fandoms
- 14:25Speaker 2: and we were fortunate enough to have that kind of
- 14:29Speaker 2: blow us up, and then you know, doing stuff like
- 14:31Speaker 2: writing writing breakdowns with ping pong balls and popcorn and
- 14:34Speaker 2: stuff like that. It's just stuff like us having fun
- 14:37Speaker 2: and like fucking around. But I don't know, people just
- 14:39Speaker 2: like to share it, which has been really good for us.
- 14:41Speaker 2: So we've had to, like again with the album, I
- 14:44Speaker 2: guess kind of like we've had to come out and
- 14:46Speaker 2: back it up. So that you know, we're worth the
- 14:50Speaker 2: hype to the people that are into us, you know.
- 14:52Speaker 4: Yeah, And no matter how humble you want to sound
- 14:54Speaker 4: a shit like that, bro, Like, the bottom line is
- 14:57Speaker 4: you've created a massive fucking side monster with all you
- 14:59Speaker 4: say social media and all that sort of shit.
- 15:01Speaker 3: So then going forward, do you think more of your
- 15:03Speaker 3: time is going.
- 15:04Speaker 4: To be spent making music or heaping up with all
- 15:07Speaker 4: your social media shit?
- 15:09Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 15:09Speaker 2: Well, I mean they kind of go hand in hand.
- 15:12Speaker 2: So I mean we will always be writing music because
- 15:16Speaker 2: that's the fundamental core of everything. Like we've got no
- 15:22Speaker 2: interest in being like, you know, influences or anything like that,
- 15:27Speaker 2: like where musicians are a band and we just want
- 15:29Speaker 2: to like enjoy every nuanced thing about it with everybody
- 15:34Speaker 2: that's willing. But funnily enough, we're doing a lot more
- 15:38Speaker 2: social media stuff. We just released a few weeks ago,
- 15:42Speaker 2: like the first episode of a vlog kind of thing.
- 15:47Speaker 2: It's called Breakdown. So basically we're we're going to be
- 15:50Speaker 2: like filming everything we do and putting it out there
- 15:54Speaker 2: because I don't know, like it seems like people just
- 15:57Speaker 2: are really into what we're too and if that helps
- 16:01Speaker 2: get the music out there, then for sure, we'll we'll,
- 16:04Speaker 2: we'll keep putting it out. But yeah, the social media
- 16:07Speaker 2: thing did kind of blow up in a way that
- 16:11Speaker 2: was hard to keep up with. So I think we
- 16:14Speaker 2: might have to get some help there because it was
- 16:16Speaker 2: just me sort of running the accounts for a while
- 16:18Speaker 2: and I'm like, oh my god, I'm bored already. I
- 16:21Speaker 2: can't keep putting up clip after clips. So I don't know,
- 16:24Speaker 2: maybe we'll get some some sort of well, it'd be
- 16:28Speaker 2: great if we could get like, I don't know, some
- 16:30Speaker 2: management or something like that that can then help out
- 16:33Speaker 2: with that sort of stuff. So I mean, if you're
- 16:36Speaker 2: if you're watching.
- 16:38Speaker 1: Let's Go.
- 16:41Speaker 4: Fu Man, you don't know what you've just created, then
- 16:42Speaker 4: your inbox is going to blow the fuck up.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I guess. I guess I gotta check it though.
- 16:49Speaker 1: That's the thing.
- 16:51Speaker 3: So you guys are touring bandits? Why are you just
- 16:53Speaker 3: a studio project for now?
- 16:56Speaker 2: Yeah, We've always planned a tour, but I guess one
- 17:00Speaker 2: thing we didn't want to do was just like play
- 17:02Speaker 2: to fucking ten people at our local bar. We're like,
- 17:07Speaker 2: you know, we can, we can do that. Or we
- 17:11Speaker 2: could just put the effort into recording and then hopefully,
- 17:15Speaker 2: you know, I forgets out there. We can you know,
- 17:19Speaker 2: we can play some better shows. And I mean the
- 17:21Speaker 2: longer it takes for us to play, the better we're
- 17:22Speaker 2: going to be. So yeah, we've we've had a talk
- 17:25Speaker 2: with a couple of promoters and and different bands and
- 17:29Speaker 2: things like that. So I guess we're just waiting for
- 17:33Speaker 2: the for the the drop of the album and that announcement,
- 17:37Speaker 2: and then we'll we'll have some dates hopefully where we
- 17:42Speaker 2: can get up our asses and come and come and
- 17:43Speaker 2: see everyone.
- 18:00Speaker 5: Firks, my fags, my size said, why I can't get
