- 1:24Thank you for the invite. It's it's lovely to have you
- 1:27back on. It's been a while since you've
- 1:28been a little bit. Yeah, a couple.
- 1:30I mean I had the pleasure of Of speaking for about 10 minutes,
- 1:33each night and chaturanga Don. Yeah.
- 1:35And prior to that, we had a book launch Global book launch with a
- 1:40debate TV. Yeah.
- 1:41So this is the first time back since eight wash a lot while she
- 1:44was lovely to have you here, Chef for those who don't know,
- 1:47shakhtar for allow me to give you a bit of information and
- 1:50background about him. I'm sure a lot of us do know
- 1:52him. But I've known Sheree for for a
- 1:54number of years and he has had a profound impact on me
- 1:57personally. And of course the lives of many
- 1:59other friends and family that I have and The shit has a very
- 2:03interesting and diverse background both within the
- 2:05Islamic circles and also outside as well.
- 2:07But in terms of his ass lamech studies, use of course studied
- 2:10at the Islamic seminaries in karbala and at the unmet
- 2:13institute in Birmingham his he has a master's in Islamic law at
- 2:17the Islamic College. In London, his published five
- 2:20books, of course, as we know and at the moment he's the resident
- 2:23eylem of the bubble in Center in Leeds and of course.
- 2:26Sure. You have taken the Internet by
- 2:29storm in recent months. I don't know why.
- 2:31But that but I'm glad that we share some ideas and people
- 2:35found it. Interesting enough to reshare
- 2:37them. Yeah, absolutely.
- 2:38Absolutely. Chef something interesting, of
- 2:40course over the years you've been engaging in dialogue with
- 2:44with different different Circles, of course you spoken to
- 2:46far-right what they would call foreign leaders and of course
- 2:51you've you've recently done had a viral clip which has gone
- 2:58absolutely worldwide on algorithms of tick-tock and so
- 3:01Media. But today we want to talk and
- 3:04really, I think we should introduce on the current news of
- 3:06the day, which is Andrew take becoming a Muslim.
- 3:10Say what? What, where Where Do We Begin?
- 3:13Will, we're going to begin with the chef himself.
- 3:15Yeah I know I know throw me under the bus from the
- 3:19beginning, I would 100%. I mean handle I've had the
- 3:21pleasure of being numerous lectures of your soul, but
- 3:24everything from you on the pulpit.
- 3:25This today in Charlotte the means fight insightful for
- 3:28myself and my family and everyone listening because it's
- 3:30a topic everyone's talking about.
- 3:31About. So I'm going to go straight to
- 3:33the question, Chef. Why are your views on Andrew
- 3:36Tate's? Some of them.
- 3:38I've seen someone tweet a hello Tate.
- 3:40So sorry because offended. Anyway, I think we look Sharon
- 3:42Tate. Tate.
- 3:44Yeah. What are your views on him?
- 3:46Or I wouldn't say views because Everyone's entitled to their own
- 3:50opinion. That's where do you stand?
- 3:52Knowing someone like Andrew Tate has converted to the religion of
- 3:56Islam. Women are from under him.
- 3:58Allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala guides and Everyone has the opportunity
- 4:03to enter into the faith of Islam and go on that Journey towards
- 4:06God. I think what's really
- 4:10interesting here is that Tate is not dividing opinion.
- 4:13Actually it seems like Tate is bringing the Muslim one more
- 4:16together. I think out of everyone that I'm
- 4:19speaking to there's almost ejim are almost the consensus.
- 4:23Yes. On the worries that they have
- 4:25around Andrew take becoming a Muslim or rather the platform
- 4:30that he may be. Even too early when he's become
- 4:35a Muslim. So I think we all know what
- 4:38Andrews background is or if you don't you know we see a lot of
- 4:41sort of, you know, business models that are very very
- 4:45questionable casinos cams of women that we might call
- 4:52basically being prostitutes. I think, you know, the sort of
- 4:56the extremists materialism the misogyny and hatred towards
- 5:01women. And this is just sort of the
- 5:03general that we get from him when you see his videos.
- 5:07So when a person like that comes to Islam, it's important for the
- 5:11Muslim ummah, not to put him on a pedestal and say that this is
- 5:16where you find your Islam. And it's important for him to
- 5:20not put himself in a position where he says that My Views are
- 5:25Islamic views, they are Andrew Tate's views and he's on a very
- 5:30long journey for him to Unlearn a lifetime of what he's been
- 5:34doing and then to be able to relearn or to begin learning,
- 5:39what he needs to learn for the rest of his life.
- 5:41It's like when you take the shahadat actually quite simple,
- 5:44isn't it la la Forma en la la. So you're supposed to negate all
- 5:50the false gods that lie within you.
- 5:52Mmm, and then affirm the one true God not the other way
- 5:56around. So there needs to be a period of
- 5:59cooling off. Stepping back Reflection
- 6:02Learning. And then Insha'Allah, we can
- 6:04have checked 8 in front of us that benefit from his life
- 6:08experience. But until then he should really
- 6:11really consider taking a step back and I would caution others
- 6:16from giving him a platform way too early and something we can
- 6:19go, we'll have to delve into more but that's my instant
- 6:21reaction. There's an interesting, of
- 6:23course, because a lot of us, a lot of people will initially say
- 6:27well how can one forget everything Said and done and in
- 6:32recent weeks, let alone years, he may have said things which
- 6:35could have be arguably controversial.
- 6:37Now if someone has taken the shahada to what degree and
- 6:41responsibility we have as Muslims to ignore all past
- 6:44activity and sin, and just treat them as a newborn in essence, a
- 6:49clean, slate insolent, you know? Or is it responsible for us to
- 6:54bear in mind? The context of where they've
- 6:56come from? And obviously, I have have a
- 6:58pinch of salt in a way, we Eat them and think about them going
- 7:01forward to see where I'm Goin with ya.
- 7:02Absolutely well, it's true when we all say that he's got a blank
- 7:07slate, what we mean by that is that he's been forgiven of sins,
- 7:10right? But that doesn't mean that there
- 7:12is not additional responsibility upon them there is and it
- 7:16doesn't mean that he's necessarily let go of either the
- 7:19material things that he's brought with him or even the
- 7:22ideologies that he's brought with him.
- 7:25So, you know that when for example, the time of the Prophet
- 7:28sallallaahu, Ali people To convert Christine's used to
- 7:32convert to Islam. Jews.
- 7:33Used to convert to Islam many a time.
- 7:35They still brought with them. Their previous ideologies.
- 7:38They couldn't let go of them are, and so they would retell
- 7:41the stories of the ancient prophets.
- 7:43But through what they learn from the Bible or what they learn
- 7:46through their own stories? So that was a cautionary tale
- 7:50back then of course it's of cautionary tale for us now.
- 7:53Yeah so number one he has more responsibility upon him because
- 7:57now he's McAuliffe is got her arm upon He's got Halal upon
- 8:01him, he also carries with him a lifetime of ideology, and so if
- 8:05he brings that to Islam and then uses Islam to reaffirm those
- 8:10things, then this becomes even more dangerous for the Muslim
- 8:14Community. Because now they're actually
- 8:16seeing someone who's talking through the lens of Islam, but
- 8:19they may be bringing with them, their past views.
- 8:23And so a clean slate doesn't mean literally a clean slate
- 8:27that nothing can be contextualized about No, all of
- 8:31those things have to be brought to the context of the discussion
- 8:34with him, but it could be that we say that his sins are
- 8:37forgiven, but that doesn't mean that we don't understand where
- 8:40his money or his ideas or his popularity or is platform has
- 8:44come from. Those things are very very much
- 8:46part and parcel of him until he himself separates from those
- 8:51things entirely and to my limited knowledge.
- 8:54As of recording this discussion, he has not yet disavowed.
- 8:58All those things. Hmm.
- 8:59Actually they seem To be very much part of him.
- 9:02So, we need to be able to know these things before we can make
- 9:04a full judgment. I don't know what your thoughts
- 9:07are say because I know it's quite new for you.
- 9:09I do you only recently found out about it's only been a few
- 9:12months and I think that's when I think I found out, he got
- 9:15cancelled by many people. Yeah, places like YouTube.
- 9:18I think Airbnb if that's relevant to anyone clicked.
- 9:21Like, that's maybe what? Yeah, they said you can't use
- 9:23our bathroom. I don't know what I was speaking
- 9:28to earlier driving to, it was a drive to the studio earlier on.
- 9:32I was like, a lot of Muslims, they've been relating to his His
- 9:36way of torque because they find some connection to him, where it
- 9:40is in line with some of our values as much else.
- 9:43No. I mean, like, you could argue so
- 9:45I turned up. So I'm going to do as I say like
- 9:47just on what you're saying. So many people, listen to
- 9:49entertain and they'll say that and Route 8 aligns with what I
- 9:52believe in. And rotate says the things I
- 9:54think. But without, you know, said bees
- 9:57for a little Shifty, by the way, before his conversion.
- 9:59So I've heard. Yes.
- 10:01So interesting, I don't know if anyone has Tick-Tock.
- 10:03I really don't promote that platform this apart from the
- 10:06office. Margaret best on Tick Tock.
- 10:08He was, he is well, well known as shared state of seeing like
- 10:11hashtags. And so I first came, I mean he's
- 10:14to come up with my feet and I'd watch a few things and I'll be
- 10:16like, well this is Extreme or this is vile.
- 10:20Even if he said something fairly within the range of being right,
- 10:23A Broken Clock is still right twice a day, but it doesn't
- 10:26necessarily mean I take from the clock still broken.
- 10:29Yeah. In the same way his words may
- 10:32ring true in certain spheres but it's still coming from a place
- 10:35of extremism. Being broken from within.
- 10:38But I remember coming across improperly is in thinking about
- 10:42where the Genesis of his name was.
- 10:44And I saw a viral video where someone asked the Muslim like,
- 10:48you know, who's your role model. And the person said I have to
- 10:51say, no be Muhammad sallallahu alehiwassallaam because I'm a
- 10:55Muslim, but actually for me in the real world, it's Andrew tape
- 10:59and it caused such a stink, such a controversy on social media.
- 11:03I came across that video. Okay, let me find who this?
- 11:06Angie Take guy is and then I realize, oh, it's that guy that
- 11:09I've been going, man. You know, I've been skipping
- 11:13because like his stuff is so hot flashes here and I had now, put
- 11:16two and two together, so who he is.
- 11:18But now on the basis of his conversion, are you going to
- 11:20judge them differently as a? Are you going to you going to
- 11:23overlook your opinions of him? No, no.
- 11:27As I said, he comes with baggage.
- 11:29Yeah, and he's not an ordinary individual by his own testimony.
- 11:34He is the self-proclaimed The most Google man in the world at
- 11:38the moment to if that's the case people are looking to him.
- 11:41And they're going to see, literally hundreds of thousands
- 11:44of videos in different context from before, who knows whether a
- 11:49person is going to distinguish was that said ten years ago?
- 11:51Five years ago yesterday, is he speaking in the name of Islam?
- 11:55You brought an incredible point. It's day one.
- 11:59And he's already quoting Islamic scholars.
- 12:01Yeah, he quoted even. So what happens to me?
- 12:06When he throws out an Ayah of the Quran or throws out a Hadith
- 12:10of the Prophet. Salallahu alihi wasalam, people
- 12:12are going to see that and go. Wow, he's quoting scripture now.
- 12:15So he's got Authority now, and how do I know he's not mixing
- 12:19previous ideologies with Islam? And now bringing a bastardized
- 12:24version of that Islam to the world becomes dangerous, hugely
- 12:28dangerous, because if you are already throwing out scholarly
- 12:31names in quotes, where's it going to stop?
- 12:34Yeah, and the danger persists as well, of course, because if a
- 12:38guy regardless, who is whether it's Andrew take or anyone else,
- 12:41takes a crash course on Islam for a couple of weeks, they
- 12:44still not going to know the difference like you said she
- 12:46between different Scholars. Tough series of different ayat
- 12:49and how they differ with, you know what I mean?
- 12:51Basic Islamic history. Let alone kind of complex stuff,
- 12:55but the guy because of his platform and because he's a
- 12:58well-known person tweeting out something and quoting as Islamic
- 13:03scholar, or a You know, whatever might be people take from that,
- 13:06you know? For example, a footballer
- 13:07tweets, the weather hamdulillah. Well for example, anti Joshua
- 13:10said, the Handler erling Holland.
- 13:11A few months ago. Said we win the game and Sharla
- 13:14people went nuts. Absolutely not so.
- 13:17Oh my God. Erling Harlan might be a Muslim
- 13:20the world. That was crazy honestly but I
- 13:22imagine. So for example you've got 13 or
- 13:2314 year old boys, and this is why I think a lot of people have
- 13:26a problem with him 13 or 14. 15 year old boys are impressionable
- 13:30and not even that I think just generally men are
- 13:32impressionable, we as Men, we don't understand the concept of
- 13:36masculinity, we all have our own definitions of masculinity.
- 13:39Some people even in today's day and age, tell us there's no such
- 13:42thing as masculine. I staffs are boxed.
- 13:44You, many times. Can you define it for me because
- 13:45I'm still having trouble? I think that's not.
- 13:48But my point being, is that because people lack that or
- 13:51understanding of that, they will look for anything which gives
- 13:53them purpose and tells them what masculinity is in an articulate
- 13:57Manner. And that's what some people deem
- 13:59agitate to do. So, they will take everything
- 14:01and anything from from him or anyone that they look up to.
- 14:04So, that's where the danger is, because whatever he's saying.
- 14:06And however, he's saying it, people will take from him.
- 14:09And the problem is, where does this end?
- 14:10So, as an example because of his position and wealth, there's
- 14:16going to be a certain type of scholar that's attracted to him.
- 14:19And he's going to attract that type of scholar.
- 14:21So tomorrow he goes out to the Middle East and he hangs out
- 14:24with sort of the the the scholars there I think is in the
- 14:27why write and write and they owe him and he gets the Dubai
- 14:30experience. It's bullying its Rich its
- 14:32materialistic and buys into what he He does, and it feeds what he
- 14:35does. So now, he Wheels, Islam is a
- 14:39weapon all along. He's been using misogyny, all
- 14:42along has been using, I think, as I said, he has a business
- 14:44where he had some cam girls, and these sorts of things and other
- 14:46below now, tomorrow, he goes and finds a 50 ruling.
- 14:50For example, you know, I can have four wives.
- 14:52Hmm. Now he goes and gets married to
- 14:55for women and says see Islam, endorses my position about how I
- 15:00think about women. Yeah.
- 15:01And all of a sudden he uses Islam as a And as a mallet to be
- 15:05able to hit women over the head with previously, it was his own
- 15:09ideology, his own culture, he was a product of sort of
- 15:13whatever you want to call it. Western culture, Romanian
- 15:15culture, freedom of that nature. Now he's able to use Islam in
- 15:20that same way Allah Allah, because to be honest, some of us
- 15:23we love will be honest. We no one can ever determine
- 15:25what's in, someone's heart and mind.
- 15:27Yeah, yeah. Charlotte that, you know, he's
- 15:28guided and he's pure in his intentions and he finds a lot
- 15:32almost became and shallow. We all do.
- 15:34Do but like you said, we have to take context when we when we
- 15:37discussed this character and and the the potential repercussions
- 15:42of his role in society and the influence who will have on
- 15:45people and to be honest, he's blew up his blown up because of
- 15:48tick-tock and social media. Yeah, you know, and Sharon, I'm
- 15:52going to imagine myself in a scenario and as I think it's a
- 15:55good question to ask me another you here on the podcast.
- 15:57Let's say I'm 13. 14, 15. And I've got someone, he has he
- 16:01speaks in a certain way. Yeah, I'm attracted to Stone the
- 16:04way he uses while Cadbury. Whatever is these days, all
- 16:08these people like entered. Say everyone watches them.
- 16:11How do I know what the saying is right?
- 16:13If the quoting Islam, for example, because you gave an
- 16:15example, he may use Islam to benefit himself, but how would
- 16:18we know differentiate voicing is right.
- 16:24It's a real problem because if he's quoting or on and quoting
- 16:28the Hadith, then he's able to say that there is textual
- 16:32evidence for what he wants to be able to say, I think a person
- 16:36needs to acquaint themselves with what's in what is commonly
- 16:42agreed with as genuine Islamic scholarship?
- 16:45Okay. And genuine, Islamic scholarship
- 16:47is not something that is taking a couple of years to achieve
- 16:52we're talking about Scott. Who have spent their lives
- 16:54dedicated to this 40, 50 years? The proof is in the pudding.
- 16:59The Publications that they've released the level of
- 17:03scholarship is agreed upon by other Scholars.
- 17:06Even if you're not in the same mother herb, or even if you're
- 17:09not within the same sort of narrow cut, the line of
- 17:13thinking, okay, there's always Scholars that we broadly look at
- 17:16say, okay, I may not agree with everything that comes from there
- 17:19but he's recognized as an authority within the deal.
- 17:23Start their see, what? The authoritative figures say,
- 17:27and how they are producing their evidence around certain issues,
- 17:32acquaint yourself with that. Tear it to shreds debate, it
- 17:36critique it. Bring your own evidence has no
- 17:39problem, but at least know where Authority exists in Islam over
- 17:43the centuries. And then compare and contrast,
- 17:47what is coming from Fringe? People from new ideas and
- 17:54compare and contrast and where you sit with those, don't do it.
- 17:56The other way around. Don't start by acquainting
- 17:59yourself with fringe ideas, novel ideas, first, Then
- 18:04thinking that's the standard of Truth, start with the Quran that
- 18:09I had youth. Genuine scholarship and that's
- 18:12the way we would do it. So beautifully said Charlie.
- 18:14Yeah you know it's interesting because say you mentioned about
- 18:1713 14 15 year-old boy. Yeah.
- 18:19And Chef, you mentioned about finding Authority and so on.
- 18:22Now someone might argue how can a 13 year old boy look for
- 18:25stomach Authority and be able to disseminate who the real
- 18:27Scholars over the period of centuries and so on but we're
- 18:30told to do that. So at the time of bilac, we're
- 18:32told pick a merger for example. That's a we're ready told to do
- 18:35that. But if you give a young boy who
- 18:38in his free time is voluntarily looking and and watching and
- 18:42learning from the likes of and routing and you show him an
- 18:45amazing Islamic scholar on the flip side who does not look
- 18:48relatable to him, it does not sound will have the same sort of
- 18:51accent to him or understand the same culture that he's being
- 18:54brought born and brought up in, which one is the child going to
- 18:56pick? It's clear as day.
- 18:58Does that mean that I'm going to ask this question to you?
- 19:00Sure. Because you are part of this
- 19:01quality Circle and you've obviously you've been through
- 19:04Like a different circles and life and have been born and
- 19:06brought up in ends as we say, here in the sun, in the roads,
- 19:10which was which Port scholarship means is, it's not quite the
- 19:16ends. Not really, it was the rougher
- 19:18side of your own games, but it's still not ruff ruff.
- 19:20Yeah, I know, but your point being shot bricks and culture.
- 19:23Yeah, of course. So what I mean to say is, is it
- 19:26this responsibility of Scholars to become more relatable to give
- 19:30the alternative to Andrew take, but using the same criteria.
- 19:34Syria the attractiveness. The fast-paced speaking.
- 19:36For example, the quick information, the relatability
- 19:39and all the thing is Andrew take attracts people because why?
- 19:43Because he looks good. He speaks well, he's blunt with
- 19:46his words. He talks on behalf of other men
- 19:48and defense Mentor other people to people at.
- 19:50Wow, this guy's amazing. So all you men listen to him.
- 19:54I'll say I mean he claims that a large portion of his supporters
- 19:59are women because I wouldn't be surprised other.
- 20:01I'll be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if there are there.
- 20:04A lot of conservative mind women and his voice amplifies their
- 20:09understanding like there to their gender role.
- 20:11Yeah. And he's also be exactly the
- 20:12gender role of women and their role as a mother and being loyal
- 20:16to one man and so on and so forth and a lot of women agree
- 20:19with that, you know. And like I said, Muslim woman
- 20:22will agree with that majority of the time.
- 20:24But yeah, majority I'd say majority men, listen to him.
- 20:27But is it not the responsibility of our Scholars to find
- 20:29alternative because we have amazing Scholars like myself who
- 20:31are doing great work but seminars Lecture series and so
- 20:35on and so forth. That's great for someone who's
- 20:37like, you know, studied a good, a degree in can listen to
- 20:40lectures, but for someone who's younger, maybe, maybe not
- 20:44firstly, I'm not a scholar, but by the definition of an Islamic
- 20:47scholar, but the starting point from The Chronic perspective.
- 20:52Is that the prophet Muhammad sallallahu alehiwassallaam was
- 20:55from amongst of the people, right?
- 20:57The Quran says who are lady but I feel me.
- 20:59You know, rasoolum Min home and the prophet was raised from
- 21:02amongst themselves. Meaning he was relatable to them
- 21:06in culture in language in style. But from the other perspective,
- 21:10we have to ask, well, what do we want from scholarship?
- 21:13Is the criteria of scholarship relatability.
- 21:17Is that what I'm primarily looking for or am I primarily
- 21:21looking for someone who is deeply understanding The Deen of
- 21:26Allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala and how he or she is able to relate
- 21:31to me is of secondary importance.
- 21:34We have to understand, you know? Yeah of course, what we're
- 21:36really looking for and I feel that if we were going to put
- 21:38relatability ahead of depth of knowledge and that would be a
- 21:42very shallow way of understanding things.
- 21:44The Quran says we need people who are Leah to fuck the who 15
- 21:48deeply entrenched into the Deen of Allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala.
- 21:51So we had these two balancing issues where you need someone
- 21:54who is relatable, but you also want someone who is profound in
- 21:58the religion. Now, I think the balance between
- 22:02these two points is Leti because when you sit with someone who
- 22:06has profound, genuinely profound and not Sam, soundbite profound
- 22:11someone is genuinely profound irrespective of their age or
- 22:15where they live, they will be able to relate to you.
- 22:19I give you an example. The grand scholar, who I studied
- 22:24under or at least under his institution Grand.
- 22:26Ayatollah, sayyed, Muhammad, taqi and madrasi I go and visit
- 22:31karbala and he'll be like tell Ami, what's the latest on AI and
- 22:36how we're applying this in the west literally he's telling?
- 22:39And then he's like, I need you to do this and this for me and
- 22:41and and Research into this, and I've never even thought about it
- 22:45last time when I went to Qatar, but up, you know, a month back
- 22:48for the auto body near he said, can you look into VR?
- 22:54How do we make, how do we use VR?
- 22:57And bring it to Muslims and make that technology to our benefit?
- 23:02Because I'm worried that VR is going.
- 23:04You know, take us in a different direction, he's literally
- 23:07talking about the metaverse. I'm talking about metaverse in
- 23:10my lectures. I didn't expect an 80 year old
- 23:13man from Iraq, to talk to me about that.
- 23:16Yeah, if you're genuinely profound in the religion, you
- 23:19should be able to have those conversations.
- 23:21And that's my point when people have access, and they know that
- 23:25scholarship. Genuine scholarship is able to
- 23:27bridge the gap. It becomes easier for us.
- 23:31So my humble advice to our youth is, don't judge.
- 23:34Book by it's cover, no place. One aspect as most important.
- 23:40See all the faculties and facets of this issue and then pick the
- 23:43right person but you need people to guide your there, you're an
- 23:46experienced person in the community.
- 23:49You've got access to a lot of Scholars.
- 23:51We've got experience. If people are looking for
- 23:54guidance, ask, you know, first I do have a vicar in contaminated,
- 23:58Amanda prances us, those people of knowledge and those who know
- 24:01and remember if you don't know. No and that's That's supposed to
- 24:04be the way. So you know, if you are 13, 1518
- 24:08you're looking for scholarly guidance, ask people don't jump
- 24:12into it because it's better for you to take time then to do
- 24:17something in haste and get it wrong shape on rushed into
- 24:20something into a response. Unless said, you know about Adam
- 24:24alaihi Salam. He rushed into a response
- 24:26through his, you know, his haste, in his greed, in his
- 24:28Envy. Where did that lead him?
- 24:30Yeah, we should learn from this to be patient with these matters
- 24:33and be wise. I know it's hard to ask for 13
- 24:36year old to be wise, but we're not asking a thirteen-year-old
- 24:38to be too quick. We're asking the
- 24:41thirteen-year-old just relax and say, what's the long-term
- 24:44investment in this question? And that should help and parents
- 24:47should be there, scholar, should be their leaders of the youth
- 24:50like, you guys could be there to help guide guide that process to
- 24:53be honest. I completely agree with a lot of
- 24:55what you said, but there's elements of perhaps what you
- 24:57said. Well, I think we're maybe,
- 24:59maybe. It's maybe there's things we can
- 25:01work on. So, for example, we're asking a
- 25:03lot. From children to be able to, to
- 25:06analyze this because obviously they're their brains are not
- 25:09fully developed. And it's also, you know, they
- 25:11have, they know what they may know what's right, and what's
- 25:13the right thing to do, but the sheer volume of jahiliyya that
- 25:17surrounds a child in today's day and age in school and in wider
- 25:20society and especially online, now which is the ultimate
- 25:23society which a child will engage with for the coming years
- 25:27that's going to play a bigger role in influencing at least
- 25:30their psyche for the coming years you know if not for the
- 25:33rest of their life, okay? I think a big portion of of
- 25:36accountability or even maybe not accountability, sounds like
- 25:39there's a Blame Game involved, but maybe there should be
- 25:42responsibilities taken by parents today and come parents
- 25:46to come parents like us who are parents of young children to
- 25:49understand the issues that young children are facing, and even
- 25:52young adults are facing. And then Taylor parenting
- 25:55towards, you know, empowering our children, and teaching them,
- 25:59what's right and wrong. And then at the same times, I
- 26:02think they're like, you said she asked, there are people Who are
- 26:04engaged in the community but are not Scholars like ourselves
- 26:06Handler. We have the blessing of
- 26:07opportunity to be involved and Handler to have a network, and
- 26:10so on, but to pass on our feedback, to our Scholars such
- 26:15as yourself, and, and other Scholars, and to share the fact
- 26:17that I feel for example, that there should be more powerful
- 26:21media coming from our Scholars. I feel that like I feel that
- 26:24there should be the YouTube series is series and there
- 26:27should be the books and the should be the PDFs and the
- 26:30station's is on, but at the same time, there should be content,
- 26:33which is tailored for Abolish just become bollocks, boy or
- 26:36girl, who are inevitably going to be on social media, but lack
- 26:40that because if I wanted some other mohab in Islam and all the
- 26:43schools of thought they have that, there are young scholars,
- 26:46who understand social media. But we lie.
- 26:48I really agree with the feedback with the critique that you're
- 26:51giving here. Firstly in regards to what I
- 26:55agree with. I do feel that the Western model
- 26:59of shiism is way behind others and that could be.
- 27:02Yeah. That a just don't we're behind
- 27:05because we don't have the numbers.
- 27:07We haven't had the investment and, you know, as maybe first,
- 27:11second generation immigrants, we're still playing a little bit
- 27:13catch up. There are reasons for that.
- 27:14I do respect that, and I do agree, especially with the more
- 27:18subtle critique that you're making, that sort of Western
- 27:21scholarship in terms, of what it's producing is, still way way
- 27:24behind as well. It's not produced a level of
- 27:27content or material that is required, and I think that's a
- 27:31discussion that we need to go into as well on the other Site.
- 27:35I think we are you know, to say a thirteen-year-old is supposed
- 27:39to make a decision in isolation. I think that's wrong.
- 27:42That's my response and say that if you're looking from a chronic
- 27:46perspective as an example, the Quran in Surah tan or chapter
- 27:5024, Allah says a really strange verse right.
- 27:52He says no blame on you if you go and eat at the houses of your
- 27:57fathers and your uncles, and your cousins, and your aunties,
- 28:01and Aunt Why would Allah tell you?
- 28:05There's no problem for you. Going to eat at the houses of
- 28:07your own family members. Doesn't make sense.
- 28:09Actually, what it's showing you is that every person is supposed
- 28:14to be part of a wider family unit.
- 28:16Yeah. We say we have a term, we say a
- 28:20village raises a child. Yeah.
- 28:22What we've become in the western Society because of how busy Our
- 28:25Lives it saves our is that we sort of imagine that we just a
- 28:30nuclear family at best sometimes and sometimes Parents live on
- 28:34other side of the world broken homes.
- 28:37So a child is often growing up in isolation, even worse the
- 28:40stuck in front of the TV. Yeah and so as you said they're
- 28:44learning things from try me, you are themselves, trying things
- 28:46out themselves. Actually the way Islam views,
- 28:49the growth of the child is that they have access to a very wide
- 28:54base of experience and knowledge.
- 28:57I like your uncle, your father, your grandfather, your aunt,
- 29:00your cousins are all part of feeding into the Element of that
- 29:03child. Mmm.
- 29:04That's the meaning of this Ayah. And so when we say a
- 29:08thirteen-year-old for example, which is yeah, guidance, real
- 29:12genuine Guidance just because it become bollocks and he is to
- 29:16pick a merger. It runs on it's not on his own.
- 29:19It's not. Hey, okay.
- 29:20Just take the result and I told that this is what I'm saying.
- 29:23So with a young age we're told that and if you don't know you
- 29:26must ask one or two or three wise people in the community who
- 29:29have trust in, that's what we're told and as a teacher, I
- 29:32remember that. Yeah.
- 29:33Remember that, right? And if you go to Madras are
- 29:35majority madrasas and this is what you teach children have
- 29:37become like becoming by earlier. And I think she asked that's
- 29:40interesting because I think our community does raise us at least
- 29:42in my own Community which is, of course your wasn't item for.
- 29:44For so many years in the community, I grew up in, we we
- 29:48were raised by our community but the things we are raised on are
- 29:52fantastic. So for example, history of the
- 29:54imams and the holidays and so on, but maybe the things that
- 29:57are more concerning today in 2022, like you said, yes, and
- 30:01yes, there's an absentee parent. Team from yeah, that's what.
- 30:04Yeah. So what you raised on is
- 30:06actually the cultural diet of the community.
- 30:08Right. Yeah, so the expression of the
- 30:11modulus, for example, is a cultural expression particularly
- 30:15us to from the indo-pak sub-continent.
- 30:18Yeah. And so, on you, for example,
- 30:20from the at our Key Community as a reflection of that.
- 30:22And so the language the expressions are there.
- 30:25If you go to an Islamic perspective, it's a very, very
- 30:28different thing and you're supposed to nurture the child.
- 30:33Child and if the child is not ready to make a decision, even
- 30:36if he does something it says, okay, just for the sake of it.
- 30:38I'm a post holder. I'm not going to say this tiny
- 30:41or whatever, may Allah preserve him.
- 30:43That doesn't stop him from taking time now, to be able to
- 30:47think and research and ask and see where I'm best positioned in
- 30:50life. Hmm.
- 30:52And what we imagine is that we have to throw this child into
- 30:55something that they're clearly, not ready for and just let them
- 30:58sink or swim. No, no, no.
- 31:02Rational In being does that with any other part of their life,
- 31:06but we expect a thirteen-year-old to do it and
- 31:08then we blame them for turning away from the dean, or the sort
- 31:12of the more conservative strictly side of it.
- 31:16Yeah, we blame them when they're going towards, you know, videos
- 31:19that are sound bites and they getting their Dean or their
- 31:21ideas from this, clearly clearly, The Way We Were
- 31:25presenting the fit and the way we're presenting the tibia of
- 31:28these children is not in sync with the reality, and that's
- 31:31what I agree with ya. Yeah, so I emphasize the
- 31:34thirteen-year-old fine. If you need to tick the Box tick
- 31:38the box, but it doesn't stop you having a journey that lasts.
- 31:42However, long it needs to last and that's where I said family
- 31:46unit Community. Good teachers, like yourselves
- 31:49are no marks collars, they come into it and they have a really
- 31:52wide role to play. We have to take a step back and
- 31:55see how our institutions and our communities are raising our
- 31:58children and these these gaps that you're raising.
- 32:02If we don't start to Lock them. Very, very soon.
- 32:05It will be the and rotates of the world that take over now
- 32:09leaves us in a really sticky position.
- 32:11Hmm, I think that I'd say no but as you as you were speaking now
- 32:16just thinking of my head you know and I think we briefly
- 32:19spoke about just before we sat on the podcast is getting rich
- 32:24and being Muslim, for example, there's a loud and I was just
- 32:27thinking, you know, can I hear take, for example, the same time
- 32:30kind of here, you know, I'll always be honest.
- 32:33Get rich or die. Trying to look at the extreme
- 32:54which is also Tweet and you might quote Hadith of the day or
- 33:05something. Yeah.
- 33:06Like for example, I might fall victim to this.
- 33:08I get daily. Had these reminders screenshot
- 33:11share everyone thought. Wow, Masha Allah, this is an
- 33:13incredible. How do you think then you're
- 33:14driving the Ferrari? Yeah everyone but I think what
- 33:18you mean? What if I've understood
- 33:19correctly you're saying that even the smallest acts of
- 33:22religious practice can be Amplified and be seen as as I
- 33:25mean. No.
- 33:27I was saying, for example, it's cool to be a religious so there
- 33:30shouldn't be a problem. Yeah, let's put 125.
- 33:33As let's see, he doesn't exist by someone who has his, for
- 33:36example, way of thinking, when it comes to work.
- 33:39Yeah. So I don't know much about.
- 33:41So hop on this Crossing anyone here but he's rich as far as I'm
- 33:44aware. Yeah, and now he's like going
- 33:47into the dean. So there's nothing wrong with
- 33:48being. How do you feel about that?
- 33:50You agree with that? Because we see like for example,
- 33:52the life of Salam and what do you mean?
- 33:55It's in which they lived and I don't know, I don't really even
- 34:01know how I would feel on there. Wasn't I I don't know if it's
- 34:03right or wrong, I don't know. Let's check.
- 34:05Like you said to me on the phone idea that you'd hope that that
- 34:08people who join the religion and have a high net worth.
- 34:11For example we learned from the likes of say the Khadija Islam
- 34:14Allah and also for example like some uh it hasn't any Salam who
- 34:18if I'm not mistaken gave his wealth away twice in his life.
- 34:20Yeah. And towards the cause of Allah
- 34:22respond to either and you know I think that I'll be honest Get
- 34:27rich, why not like make money. And I feel like as men and we're
- 34:31talking about men and masculinity as part of this
- 34:34discussion I thought we have to there's a responsibility on us
- 34:36to make money and to provide its comically a duty upon us.
- 34:40And and and it gives us something to work towards shared
- 34:43that. Well I think that's what I need
- 34:45like this. There's that that money is given
- 34:47to us by Allah Allah to be used for a last month, other, but,
- 34:51but we enjoy that we thrive on it.
- 34:54As long as we don't get greedy, I don't know.
- 34:57At the national. Do you think I think when we
- 35:01using these terms we have to be very careful.
- 35:03Yeah. Between the Islamic definitions
- 35:05of rich and wealthy versus Western perception of wealthy
- 35:11and Rich. And what we do with that, I'll
- 35:14just give a very simple example, normally.
- 35:17Now, when we get richer, we move up the socio-economic class,
- 35:23okay? And what that means is, now I
- 35:25have more money. I have to buy the bigger house
- 35:29to a company than you salary and accompanying the new house has
- 35:32to come the new car and accompanying.
- 35:34The new car has to come a better style of holiday.
- 35:38So now I'm previously, I was able to afford a four-star
- 35:41hotel, now I can get six star and so with the wealth income,
- 35:45the increase. So too, does the lifestyle
- 35:47become High Street? That's very true.
- 35:49If that's the way we understand getting rich and no problem with
- 35:53getting rich, I'm going to humbly suggest that it's Has a
- 35:57problem with that. Okay, okay.
- 36:00So how do we evidence this? Well, firstly the Quran and
- 36:03secondly, the ahadith Allah subhanaw taala.
- 36:07For example, in the Quran sort of the baccarat, he has an Ayah,
- 36:10the companion said to the prophet.
- 36:12Salallahu alihi, wasalam, yes, I don't occur mother unicorn, they
- 36:16ask you, what should they spend, not, how much should they spend?
- 36:21What should this? Because as you know, you know,
- 36:23sometimes when you give something in charity, you don't
- 36:25just give money. Sometimes you can get Clothes,
- 36:27or you can get food. What should we spend?
- 36:29Got us a lot. Now this answer is incredible.
- 36:32Allah says pull say Azula laughs whatever is Surplus okay?
- 36:40Yeah this is really important. It comes to the idea of wealth
- 36:43wealth creation and the redistribution of wealth Yara,
- 36:47sort of law. What should we give in the way
- 36:49of needs a laugh? Whatever is your Surplus?
- 36:53So let's break this down, really simply.
- 36:54Imagine saying now, you are income 2,000 a month.
- 36:58Hmm, you'll needs of 1500 a month.
- 37:01What's your Surplus 5.5 hundred? What we tend to think in the
- 37:05western societies that with 500 a month Surplus?
- 37:08And what you are said, spender, I get a nice pair of jeans, I
- 37:11can put it in this, I can put in that, whatever's left you, that
- 37:14is yourself us. That's what we're seeing even
- 37:16that, maybe not because I put, okay, someone comes to the
- 37:19mosque and they're like, oh, we have a, we have a neat.
- 37:22We're starting a charity for Orphans and you put out a 20
- 37:24quid and you see my Charles I did good.
- 37:27This is a type of Charity, it's good.
- 37:29But firstly, Islam wants institutional causes not just
- 37:32all, I'll give 20 quid because it's good or 50 pound a month
- 37:34because the pride and say that said, whatever is your genuine
- 37:39Surplus above your needs. That is the hawk of someone
- 37:44else. No way.
- 37:45That's even in a Hadith of elevated.
- 37:47Him somewhere from Imam Ali. And his mom saw, it said I'm a
- 37:50look at him or whatever is above your needs.
- 37:53My knees is actually the hook of others Hmm.
- 37:58Now, who those Hogan? The categories is a secondary
- 38:01question but let's just get the principal right?
- 38:04I imagine that when I go up in wealth, yeah I get to spend more
- 38:09on myself and my family to become more luxurious.
- 38:13That's the problem with what we said earlier, we said it's no
- 38:16problem in me getting rich. When lady said EJ, alehissalaam,
- 38:19got rich. Yeah, her lifestyle did not go
- 38:22up. Her ability to spend more on
- 38:26others, went up. Can you see the difference?
- 38:29What we imagine is now that I've got more, I can buy the nicer
- 38:32car. I can buy a 40,000-pound cloud
- 38:34words, actually, all I need for my level of living is an 18,000
- 38:38pound car. Yeah.
- 38:39Watch yourself. Plus 14, minus 18. 22.
- 38:42Nat 22,000 belongs to someone else.
- 38:44It doesn't belong to you. In a sense.
- 38:48Yeah. So we had welcome - 840 - a 41
- 38:51seconds. A few bucks to spare.
- 38:52You got 40 Grand, you need 40 Grandpa.
- 38:54Of course. No you do is your your
- 38:57requirement sufficient with an 18-grand car?
- 39:00Yes. More than enough.
- 39:01More than enough, your socio economic standards.
- 39:04Yes, therefore that 22,000 in this example if you long for
- 39:08someone else okay but if I can if I can if I can maybe just add
- 39:12something to this. Because a lot of the time, let
- 39:15me try and think about how to word this in today's day and
- 39:17age. You see the likes of influences
- 39:19who are on jet skis and who are in private jets, for example,
- 39:23and they tell you to be motivated to live the lifestyle
- 39:27that you want to live. So people, when they're working,
- 39:29they want to get rich to live a lifestyle.
- 39:32Do you see what I mean? You don't get rich to earn the
- 39:34money. You get rich to earn money so
- 39:36you can spend on the lifestyle, for example.
- 39:38Now if I'm, if I'm not mistaken, what you're saying is Islam
- 39:41allows you to get rich and maybe even encourages you to get rich
- 39:44for the purpose of, for the purpose of using your Surplus
- 39:47Store. Was the cause of the last part.
- 39:48I love, I'm not mistaken, but then, like I said, in terms of
- 39:51motivating people to what degree can we can, we, can we make this
- 39:57attractive to people? Because now, in this day and
- 40:00age, when we have costs of living, which are so high and
- 40:03and thus financial situation, the economic situation, and not
- 40:06just the UK, but the world is so dangerous.
- 40:09People need to earn more money and people need to use the
- 40:11engineer Ingenuity and they need to use creativity to earn more
- 40:14money. It's good for them to earn more
- 40:15money so that they can Keep up with the requirements that the
- 40:19financial burden is the you know, that put upon us.
- 40:22But at the same time the primary motivation should be if I'm not
- 40:25mistaken to use the Surplus that we are trying to earn towards
- 40:29the cause of a lot opponent either but that's not
- 40:31marketable. Do you see what I mean?
- 40:33It does not appeal to people the same way Instagram pictures of
- 40:38of jet, skis and cigars and so on and so forth.
- 40:41Have do you see what I mean? But why do I need to make my
- 40:44Islam appealable in that way? It's not about you.
- 40:47Making it appealable to force her to yourself.
- 40:50For example, it's about the masses.
- 40:52Do you see what I mean? So them to give up that
- 40:53lifestyle. Like yeah.
- 40:55Like as in you want people to come towards the right cause.
- 40:58Yeah and you want people so how can we how can how can we
- 41:02propagate that message in the right format?
- 41:04So that as many people as possible, understand what the
- 41:07the use of money isn't this day in age because we live in a day
- 41:10and age where you play Grand Theft Auto and the front cover
- 41:12of the game. For example, shows girls and
- 41:15music, and fast, cars and, and all of that.
- 41:17Kind of stuff, but the reality is Aslam tells you that money is
- 41:20to be used for the cause of Allah subhanaw.
- 41:22Taala to serve the orphan, and the needy, and so on and so
- 41:25forth. But is that attractive enough?
- 41:28And I know you said she has not about being attractive, but
- 41:30maybe it is because maybe it's if everyone had that mindset
- 41:34that maybe we would live in a more economically.
- 41:36Every time we recast religion, In a face in which it is not
- 41:43actually genuinely reflective of yeah, we move.
- 41:48One degree away from the truth of that religion, right?
- 41:51Yeah, and me and you as Muslims, we would as an example.
- 41:55Humbly critique Modern-day versions of Christianity, for
- 42:00that, right? Go into a church many times,
- 42:03sadly is empty. And what do they do?
- 42:04They use everything in anything to try to appeal to the youth.
- 42:07They'll play guitars and drums. They'll legitimize rap music
- 42:12inside the church, there's this version.
- 42:15If I said to you, let's use that inside the mosque, you take, but
- 42:19that the hell's he doing, there's a red line.
- 42:24Why are you not applying a red light when it comes to Economic
- 42:28understandings of Islam, right? If you look at certain societies
- 42:33right now because you talked about the cost of living crisis,
- 42:36you can see that certain societies are actually beginning
- 42:38to wake up to the realization that actually money.
- 42:41Isn't that important in Lebanon, where there has been a financial
- 42:46collapse, right yesterday? What was you know 1,000 lire
- 42:53which was equivalent of 50 pens, is now a hundred thousand Lira?
- 42:58Well, yeah, for 50 pence right now, So that it's destroyed but
- 43:03what people are doing now is that they're realizing that they
- 43:05have to look after one another. So they as a collective, is a
- 43:08community. They know that they can't
- 43:10afford. For example, electricity from X
- 43:11country. They're starting to put in their
- 43:13own solar panels. This time to buy their own
- 43:15Community, generators, it realizing actually.
- 43:18What's most important is looking after one another, yeah, they've
- 43:21devalued that. The idea, the idea of the
- 43:24currency, there's a diva, there's an inflation in the
- 43:27currency, but the same time in their value system in their mind
- 43:30in their hearts saying what? Actually, we're thinking to
- 43:32realize there's something greater than money here right
- 43:35now Islam. Asks of you, one thing we didn't
- 43:40ask you to get rich, it ask you just to be able to earn enough
- 43:43money to look after your family, to fulfill your duties.
- 43:46Which is your why Jim? No fucker?
- 43:48You're a father. You're a father.
- 43:50I'm a father husband. Husband husband, I'm doing that.
- 43:54All Allah asks for is for you to be able to look after your
- 43:57family. Give them, good shelter, good
- 43:59food. You know, look after the
- 44:02heating, make sure that their medical bills are paid for.
- 44:05This is this is your duty. You don't have Duty above that.
- 44:09If you want to give more than that, I'm did it up.
- 44:12That's on, you go and achieve it.
- 44:14You have all the freedom as long as you don't do anything harm.
- 44:18Even the macro heart. You can go into a lot.
- 44:21Doesn't stop you. He won't punish you for it but
- 44:24don't attribute it to the Deen of Allah, subhanahu wa'ta'ala
- 44:27and say that. We now have to say that the dean
- 44:30should move in this way. Let's just be open and honest
- 44:33and say all the Deen of Allah ask from you is X if you want to
- 44:37go do Ooh, Y and Zed. As long as you're not doing
- 44:40Haram. You can go in and check if you
- 44:42want to have the nice holidays. You want to have a bling.
- 44:44You don't have the car. No one's stopping you.
- 44:47No one is stopping you have at it.
- 44:50But why do we need to then say that the religion has to move to
- 44:56make that comfortable? Yeah, for people, that's my
- 44:59challenge to. I like that.
- 45:01Yeah, yeah. Because you wouldn't accept
- 45:03doing that in any other scenario.
- 45:06Why should I now start doing your when it comes to
- 45:08socio-economic? That's right because we see we
- 45:10have, we have role models and we have friends and family rich or
- 45:13die trying. It had that for you so much
- 45:16times growing up. Yeah.
- 45:17I mean, that's what we grew up in that age in that generation,
- 45:20I remember I was five years old and I was I was talking about 50
- 45:23Cent Get Rich or Die, Tryin to say eight years old but that's
- 45:25what we grew up in this culture. The society and we're going to
- 45:28talk about music. Bronte sisters one day.
- 45:31Yeah, because I know that's so many off so much.
- 45:33Yeah, yeah, it's coming, it's coming, it's coming, guys.
- 45:37If you are listening, I know, we're towards the end of the
- 45:39discussion, but just want to say, before we wrap up, if you
- 45:41haven't hit that subscribe button, please do immediately.
- 45:45This is handle has been very beneficial so far and if you
- 45:48want Chef Jeffrey to come on again.
- 45:50You need to hit that thumbs up so we know how you feel and in
- 45:53Shallow King, invite the chef back on, but save this Chef
- 45:56made. So I don't wanna look like the
- 45:57station to earn that much. It's got me thinking.
- 46:01Now about how we utilize the wealth of the community and how
- 46:06we start putting sort of goals in the communal Give an example.
- 46:09We're I'm the humble resident, Adam of in Leeds in shutter mode
- 46:15on we did a sort of a competition.
- 46:18We asked all the youth to have 30-pound Kitty and they could
- 46:24start any business that they wanted.
- 46:26Hello business, that they wanted.
- 46:28So, some people bake cookies, some people, you know, brought
- 46:31inventory the business that I did was that I brought books and
- 46:34I saw books now on the 15th or shot Ramadan.
- 46:36Classic wheel, of course, that's on the 15th of Ramadan which is
- 46:44Imam, Hassan, Ali salams we ladder.
- 46:46That's when we had, you know, that day to sell everything and
- 46:51a certain amount of your Prophet had to go in the name of Imam
- 46:55al-mahdi. He said, I'm not.
- 46:57So obviously the whole Community from across the region.
- 46:59Came, they were buying things just as an FYI.
- 47:02I made the most profit. I think it was around. 150 quid
- 47:08profit 5x. Yeah.
- 47:12I'm just saying I'm just saying but they didn't give me the
- 47:13trophy because all apparently was just for the kids.
- 47:16But anyway, Russell, if you're watching II, you owe me a trophy
- 47:19for that. It was incredible was
- 47:22Incredibles. Every child Allah is my witness
- 47:25every child that made profit and was supposed to come up and give
- 47:2820% in the name of sadaqa, for Imam, Al Mahdi alaihi Salam.
- 47:32Every one of them gave 100% of their profit in the name of
- 47:37Imam. Al-mahdi.
- 47:37A lease and I'm saying you can instill in them very early on
- 47:43good business practices, let them go and earn.
- 47:47If you're teaching them values, teach them Islamic values.
- 47:50You know, you don't have to teach them capitalistic values
- 47:53if they want them to be able to experience a greater amount of
- 47:57luxury, let them do it but don't tell them that that Islam.
- 48:01Sharon is the first time I've ever heard in my entire life,
- 48:05that, for example, we shouldn't be saving or spending or going
- 48:08on holidays. I leave.
- 48:09Like I did. Buy a house, get married.
- 48:22And that's it. They haven't done anything more.
- 48:24Like no one actually tells you, for example.
- 48:26No one's ever focus on this account.
- 48:28For example, I call these cherries are things.
- 48:29I've never heard it. I'll be honest, very honest.
- 48:33I am currently writing a book. May Allah help me to finish it
- 48:37and it's a critique only homes. Sorry, it's a critique of the
- 48:46Muslim charitable spaces, okay? Wow, basically my humble,
- 48:50Opinion is that we are focused on maybe three or four
- 48:54charitable causes this tacky. There's a communal emphasis,
- 48:58what are those causes orphans eight-armed at our Mill, where
- 49:02the windows team education, so on and so forth.
- 49:05According to my humble reading of the Quran, there are 18,
- 49:09institutional charitable causes that are mentioned in the plan
- 49:13interest. Yes.
- 49:14But we, as a community focused on for y, because they are
- 49:17popular because it's easy for me to ask.
- 49:20Money for that. If I come in, pull on your
- 49:22heartstrings, put on your height, I can just make a nice
- 49:24video. There's a picture of a your
- 49:25team, no shoes standing with a book, in a broken house, your
- 49:31easy going to get 20 quid a box. That's, that's, that's across
- 49:33the world. It's not just within the Muslim
- 49:35Community. It's yeah, I don't a name
- 49:37Charities, but it's the staple mainstream conventional
- 49:40Charities and all of our Charities, Muslim.
- 49:42And she are doing exactly the same thing.
- 49:44And in my book, I demonstrate evidence that it's actually a
- 49:48western model that they're following you.
- 49:50Way. And then in the book, we show
- 49:52the 18 charitable Avenues. And actually I've done a survey,
- 49:56some Shia, like people in the, the Muslim Aid, space the Muslim
- 50:02welfare charitable space. They haven't even heard of some
- 50:07of those charitable causes that are mentioned in the Quran.
- 50:09Haven't even heard and their heads of she charitable
- 50:14organizations. They have not even heard of what
- 50:16the Quran says, how are you in position if you don't know what
- 50:19the Quran says, Of so it's a book that's coming out.
- 50:22Your, the point you are making is so important because there's
- 50:25a lack of education on the fundamentals of socio-economic
- 50:28responsibilities in Islam. Yeah, and that's actually what
- 50:31we're driving at here. I encourage everyone at home to
- 50:34look more into shock jaffas work on it because, of course, you've
- 50:37delivered. So many discussions on this and
- 50:39given a series of lectures on it, as well as on my YouTube
- 50:42page. It is and there are playlist for
- 50:45it. Yeah, there is it's called karma
- 50:48of the playlist name, but it's basically a tea.
- 50:50Teen to chakra madhan's ago. I u.s.
- 50:54Manchester. Okay it's on my YouTube page and
- 50:56this basically goes through the 18 charitable cause 18 chair
- 51:01categories of charitable causes sure I'm going to ask you a last
- 51:03question before we wrap up in your early years Chef Jeff, a
- 51:08lot, heck, or at the time Jeff Alaric.
- 51:11I believe was known to be a community entrepreneur who
- 51:15derived an incredible fast car and was a part-owner of Football
- 51:20club. This is many of us know that he
- 51:23was in business, with one of the most well-known, entrepreneurs
- 51:26in the UK. And as far as, I understand your
- 51:30life took a U-turn, what happened Handler.
- 51:32So we had a medical recruitment company with supplying Locum,
- 51:37doctors to the NHS. So, look, um, doctor if anyone
- 51:40doesn't know when there is a need or a shortage, you can get
- 51:44the temporary doctor to fill a vacancy.
- 51:47So we used to supply those to the NHS and handle our Our
- 51:50business was close to 100 million turnover, a year.
- 51:55And as you said, we entered into a partnership with people who
- 51:59are very, very experienced in this field and I got to the
- 52:03point where Handler, you know, the profit that we made was very
- 52:06good at the end. You know I had an a brand-new
- 52:10Audi R8 and BMW M3 and Mercedes C-Class.
- 52:16Although I have models are coming.
- 52:20The yellow line, 34 saying, alehissalaam.
- 52:22Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's what we want for your,
- 52:24for your Ascent finish, the finish the dark, but so I just
- 52:30want to clarify, and it's not for the sake of boasting.
- 52:32I want to give the picture, but to be honest with you, it wasn't
- 52:36fulfilling. And I would go out of my way to
- 52:39study Islam. Before I started work, I will go
- 52:42to the chef house and study. When I finished work, I will go
- 52:45to the chef's house and study, and we would be invited for
- 52:48majorities Mahabharat and We would travel to different parts
- 52:51of the world to be able to give it and eventually it got to the
- 52:54point where I said I'm leaving my businesses and I want to be
- 52:57able to go and study full-time. Yeah.
- 53:00So apart from not feeling fulfilled by sort of the world
- 53:05of work and whatever else I was involved with.
- 53:08Actually I felt I felt that those around me I could give
- 53:14more to them through em then I could through wealth.
- 53:18Well so even if you placed on this scale and he said to me
- 53:22read this book and then you know present it from the pulpit or in
- 53:25this discussion versus make whatever 100,000 pound and give
- 53:29it in charity to building a Masjid or orphans in actually
- 53:35has to be that has more value. Dimensionally fundamentally.
- 53:40So there was never a competition here for myself.
- 53:43You let alone terms and what I could give back to the community
- 53:45you ever regret the decision. You made no thousand times over.
- 53:50The only regret I have is that I didn't leave work earlier.
- 53:54That's the regret that I have because I feel like I could have
- 53:57been doing more with my life, but but Allah gave us those
- 54:02opportunities and I feel that we experienced a world and I'm
- 54:06grateful for that, you know, as you said we We I was a, you know
- 54:10part owner of a football club, a professional football club and
- 54:12we've got to the fifth round of the FA Cup.
- 54:15Just that journey and experiencing that world has
- 54:19opened my eyes till today that I can see through certain things
- 54:22that otherwise I probably would not have been able to and
- 54:25without that I can't I sometimes, you know, I feel like
- 54:28I can have a conversation with many different people about many
- 54:31different things because of that experience, but that doesn't
- 54:34Define me or I didn't want it to Define me.
- 54:38And so, I can speak from a place of experience when it comes to
- 54:42wealth, creation, wealth distribution.
- 54:44But I can also experience, tell you, I regret That when I had
- 54:49that money, I wasted it on this sort of thing.
- 54:53Exactly what I critique earlier on, get more money is spent.
- 54:57Now I get to spend lifestyle hell, but hey, I still get to
- 55:00give a thousand pounds. A year in charity.
- 55:01There's a charitable dinner. Masha, Allah gave five thousand
- 55:04pounds and genuinely I did this times when I walk into a guarded
- 55:07dinner and we're still being run today and I've been critical of
- 55:09guarded in is now as you know. Yeah.
- 55:12But I walk into a guarded, you know, I walked into a college in
- 55:14and I could put down, I'm buying that item for 5,000 pounds.
- 55:18They didn't need 5,000 pounds. You know what they needed?
- 55:21They needed institutional help, not a one-off donation.
- 55:26Yeah, and if we understood Islam better, we would understand
- 55:30these things a lot better as well.
- 55:32So I regret that I would spend eighty thousand pound in a car
- 55:36because my socio-economic part allowed me to.
- 55:39But I gave 5,000-pound here and I thought I'm doing good.
- 55:43Actually I don't think I did any good even though I gave five
- 55:45thousand pound in that garlic dinner as an example.
- 55:47Yeah, I don't think I did good. My wording is very important,
- 55:51I'm not saying there's no thought I bought you a time,
- 55:54didn't benefit? I mean liked it enough.
- 55:57No no, no, it's good. The reality of it wasn't good.
- 56:02Why did was actually wrong? Yeah.
- 56:06Because actually, that money that I spent on that Audi R8
- 56:10that really actually, in reality, didn't belong.
- 56:12To me, and Allah will hold me accountable on the day of
- 56:15judgment for. They were a Tom, they were needs
- 56:18and you spent it on an RA for three years, for yourself Iola.
- 56:23I gave you that money so you could be my hand on Earth.
- 56:28And you smashed up the wall by giving it to Audi, you
- 56:34understand? Yeah, I'm gonna be held
- 56:36accountable on the day of judgment for may Allah, forgive
- 56:38me. That's how I see it now, and
- 56:40that's my point at the time, you're like, I've got money.
- 56:43I can spend it here. Here, I can go to Burj, Al Arab
- 56:46Burj Khalifa Hotel, doesn't belong to you.
- 56:49Money does not belong to the shifter Allah.
- 56:52Your that his hand on Earth. Sure.
- 56:54Just as a final and I said anything I do logo some I wish
- 56:59we could just do a whole conversation this, to be honest.
- 57:01I mean this I've seen thing is, I'm going, I'm reading a book at
- 57:05the moment. I don't know if you've read it
- 57:07by Napoleon Hill, Think and Grow Rich.
- 57:09I haven't read it. I know is next level.
- 57:13Like I've read a few business books and it's I'm only kind of
- 57:17maybe like a fifth or quarter through it and it's changing the
- 57:22way I think of business and money and aspirational kind of
- 57:27ways to live your life and the Thing is, I'm, I'm finding that
- 57:30the principles that are the that Western entrepreneurs apply to
- 57:35their business life can also be applied this, in terms of
- 57:39discipline to your life in Islam, or your personal life,
- 57:42for example, that you must be disciplined.
- 57:44When you wake up and you must follow a routine and you must
- 57:47have your goals and you must know what steps you can take to
- 57:49reach those goals and the discipline you get from trying
- 57:52to earn money, not what you do. Once you get the money can be
- 57:56applied elsewhere in your life. So for example, the disciplines
- 57:58You learned and your entrepreneurial activities.
- 58:01I'm sure a lot of those qualities and skills work
- 58:03skills, transferable skills and characteristics that you've used
- 58:05elsewhere. So on that basis, would you
- 58:08continue to encourage people at home who are trying to earn
- 58:10money to keep going and as much as they can, and as much as you
- 58:14can be as successful as you can Imam.
- 58:17Ali Ali, he said, I'm used to go into the markets and used to
- 58:21shout out. Shout out.
- 58:24Learn your rulings then go into business.
- 58:27Interesting, not the other way. Around.
- 58:29Yeah, because he said once you're grounded in understanding
- 58:31your your Tech Leaf, your responsibilities or duties, then
- 58:35you can go and do our one. We think about it, the other way
- 58:38around, let me become rich. I got time.
- 58:39Now, I can be a good person for the community.
- 58:42Now, I can donate creative nice, Masjid blah blah.
- 58:45A lot doesn't need your money, bro.
- 58:48Allahu Allah, honey. He is ultimately Rich doesn't
- 58:51need our money. We think we're helping the
- 58:53community because I've become wealthy but check yeah quick
- 58:56check here 50,000 here. Five million there.
- 58:58Bro, he doesn't need your money, he wants your soul.
- 59:03So Allah wants to develop your soul, understand your duties,
- 59:07and then become rich. But when you become rich,
- 59:10understand you have duties on you, when you're poor, you have
- 59:13duties on you. Yeah, the same.
- 59:15Yeah. Just, could you learn more
- 59:16money? It means so duties, learn your
- 59:19duties first and then the coverage.
- 59:21Humble advice. Thank you.
- 59:23Thank you. It's been an eye-opening and my
- 59:27mind says, Changed a lot seeing a No-No because, as I said
- 59:31earlier, our communities have never ever said it from this
- 59:36perspective. So it's been, you know, how to
- 59:39make money just to live in this world.
- 59:40So it's nice to give us a reminder of the Akash and pray
- 59:44for us that we can, we can elaborate on these ideas to the
- 59:46people don't get confused. Yeah.
- 59:48And if there's ideas that people want to discuss.
- 59:51Yeah, as a response to this, our doors open to learn.
- 59:54And I hope I hope we've come across the right way and
