- 1:22Dayna Roselli: The Palms is back.
- 1:23Dayna Roselli: The resort casino's been closed since the pandemic, and now it's under new ownership and reopened on April 27th.
- 1:29Sean McAllister: We sit down with General Manager Cynthia Kaiser Murphy to talk about what will stay the same and what you'll find different.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: Oh my goodness, wait till you see our sports book.
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: We've had a major remodel of the sports book, and we've partnered with William Hill, and we are really, really gonna do something different in there.
- 1:47Dayna Roselli: We learn more about gaming and plans for entertainment too.
- 1:51Sean McAllister: We are packed with everything palms.
- 1:54Sean McAllister: Let's get to it.
- 1:55Sean McAllister: Spin that wheel.
- 2:11Sean McAllister: And you know, Dana, I know that we've said it over and over again.
- 2:14Sean McAllister: Like every week we we start the podcast and we're like, man, it's been such a busy week.
- 2:20Sean McAllister: But once again, it has been an absolutely insane week with music, restaurant openings, the cocktails have been flowing.
- 2:29Sean McAllister: I mean, they're it it's been packed.
- 2:31Dayna Roselli: Well, and every week now we open saying I know we say it every week.
- 2:34Dayna Roselli: Now we're starting to repeat saying I know we say it every week.
- 2:38Dayna Roselli: But yeah, we did all that.
- 2:40Dayna Roselli: Pool clubs, uh gosh, I wait on Twitter.
- 2:43Dayna Roselli: I said we really vegged this week.
- 2:46Dayna Roselli: It's like hardcore.
- 2:47Sean McAllister: Hardcore.
- 2:48Dayna Roselli: Hardcore.
- 2:49Dayna Roselli: So, but today we want to focus on the palms, which was also an exceptionally vegasy event.
- 2:56Dayna Roselli: I mean, the palms opened in 2001.
- 2:59Dayna Roselli: Uh George Maloof opened it.
- 3:01Dayna Roselli: It's been iconic ever since.
- 3:03Dayna Roselli: The real world cast lived in there, worked in there, and it became probably one of the most popular hotel casinos around that time when it came to like being hip and cool and where everyone wanted to go, right?
- 3:17Sean McAllister: Yeah, absolutely.
- 3:17Sean McAllister: And more recently, uh the partnership with the Playboy brand, you know, had a Playboy club up at the the top of the fantasy tower.
- 3:27Sean McAllister: They had a Playboy suite.
- 3:28Sean McAllister: Uh, Hugh Hefner and the girls next door would, you know, film episodes over at the Palms.
- 3:34Sean McAllister: So that was a a whole like kind of reinvention and different era of celebrity over at the Palms.
- 3:43Sean McAllister: And now with a giant grand opening, the Palms has entered into yet another new era.
- 3:51Dayna Roselli: Yeah, it's now operated and owned by San Manuel Gaming.
- 3:54Dayna Roselli: So welcome to the Las Vegas community.
- 3:56Dayna Roselli: We're excited to have you here.
- 3:57Dayna Roselli: But before we even get in depth, let's just talk about the party for a minute.
- 4:01Dayna Roselli: What a grand opening party it was.
- 4:03Dayna Roselli: I mean, many of the restaurants are back, the sports book and lounge was refurbished, they had a ribbon cutting, there were fireworks, live music, the cocktails were flowing.
- 4:13Dayna Roselli: We had a great time.
- 4:14Sean McAllister: We did, and it it being back on property felt so good.
- 4:19Sean McAllister: In some senses, didn't it feel like it was a little bit of a homecoming?
- 4:23Dayna Roselli: It did.
- 4:24Dayna Roselli: With all this like pandemic stuff, I never know how I feel.
- 4:26Dayna Roselli: Like if I feel like it's been forever or like I just walked in and it feels like yesterday, I can never like kind of pinpoint how I'm feeling about it.
- 4:34Dayna Roselli: And I walked in and just recognized everything and felt like I'd walked in there a million times, which I have.
- 4:39Sean McAllister: I know.
- 4:40Sean McAllister: And good to be back and have the tastes of the restaurants and just have the vibe of the palms back.
- 4:47Sean McAllister: But before all of the grand opening festivities, we sat down with the new general manager of the Palms.
- 4:54Sean McAllister: Her name is Cynthia Kaiser Murphy.
- 4:56Sean McAllister: Now, we had a lot of questions, many of them you guys sent in to us on Twitter.
- 5:03Sean McAllister: And I think we did a pretty good job, Dana, of making sure that a lot of those questions got answers.
- 5:09Dayna Roselli: We sure did.
- 5:10Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 5:10Dayna Roselli: We were proud of our list that we got through, right?
- 5:14Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 5:14Dayna Roselli: Murphy, you know, she worked for many years at New York, New York Hell Hotel, and Casino on the strip.
- 5:18Dayna Roselli: Sean and I have met her and interacted with her many, many times.
- 5:21Dayna Roselli: So when we saw her, it was like a little bit of a homecoming.
- 5:24Dayna Roselli: It was great to see Cynthia.
- 5:25Dayna Roselli: Now she told us she also wanted to get the Palms open as quickly as possible and put people back to work.
- 5:32Sean McAllister: And something you'll hear in our conversation with Cynthia is that there is a big emphasis on locals, not only the people who are working at the Palms, but also the clientele who come in.
- 5:46Sean McAllister: Now, obviously, being a Las Vegas resort, there's a lot of hotel rooms that they need to fill, and locals aren't going to fill those.
- 5:53Sean McAllister: So there is still a focus on out of town.
- 5:56Sean McAllister: But really, for the people who live here and work here in Las Vegas, the Palms is making a concerted effort to cater to Las Vegas locals.
- 6:07Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 6:08Dayna Roselli: So what's new?
- 6:09Dayna Roselli: What's different?
- 6:09Dayna Roselli: What's reopened?
- 6:10Dayna Roselli: What hasn't?
- 6:11Dayna Roselli: What are the plans?
- 6:12Dayna Roselli: We talked to Cynthia Kaiser Murphy about all of that.
- 6:15Dayna Roselli: So let's get right to the interview.
- 6:20Sean McAllister: Cynthia, it's good to see you.
- 6:21Sean McAllister: This is an exciting moment for you, for everyone here at The Palms, isn't it?
- 6:27SPEAKER_01: It's so exciting.
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: We're sitting here on the eve of making history, and it's really, really a big day.
- 6:33Dayna Roselli: The number one question that we have, and I think others in the sphere of social media have is what is going to be different about the Palms when it opens, and what's going to be the same?
- 6:43Dayna Roselli: So why don't we start with what's going to be different?
- 6:45SPEAKER_01: Well, the Palms is going to bring back this wonderful energy and excitement and this buzz to the community.
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: We know that there's a love for the Palms, and so first and foremost, we're bringing that and putting that front and center.
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: So what do we have that's new?
- 7:00SPEAKER_01: Well, we have a new restaurant called Serrana Vista Cafe, and that hails to us from our Southern California property at Yamaha, and we're gonna have some of the favorites from Serrano Vista, and then we have an extremely competitive chef team here that is so excited about welcoming people.
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: They're actually having an internal competition.
- 7:19SPEAKER_01: The Serrana Vista Cafe says, you can go to Scott Jady, but we're gonna try to we're gonna try to beat Scott Jady, which is a pretty big deal, right?
- 7:25SPEAKER_01: Scott Jetty is is great.
- 7:27SPEAKER_01: So that we're super excited about that.
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: We're gonna have a pop-up test kitchen featuring local chefs in Green Street.
- 7:34SPEAKER_01: Very excited.
- 7:35SPEAKER_01: That's a new concept that'll be developing here in the next few weeks.
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: We're super, super about that.
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: What's new?
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: Oh my goodness, wait till you see our sports book.
- 7:43SPEAKER_01: Uh, we've had a major remodel of the sports book, and we've partnered with William Hill, and we are really, really gonna do something different in there.
- 7:50SPEAKER_01: You'll see at our opening, we have some live entertainment.
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: We're partnering that with our sports bar tonic, and then it's right next to Mabel's, which is dangerously delicious barbecue.
- 8:01SPEAKER_01: Unbelievable, it's really bad on your genes.
- 8:04SPEAKER_01: But um, so we're gonna create that whole epicenter right in the middle.
- 8:07SPEAKER_01: Bring a lot of energy.
- 8:09SPEAKER_01: On top of that, our partner, um, Brendan Theaters, they have completely redone.
- 8:14SPEAKER_01: They brought in local graffiti artists, did all the walls, they have stadium seating in all the 14 theaters, two IMAX theaters, and then they're building a little bit of a uh party zone right in the front.
- 8:25SPEAKER_01: They added a bar to the theaters, and then they brought in a local artist to art deco the floors, and that's being unveiled today.
- 8:32SPEAKER_01: So uh they're they're really, you know, as you imagine being in the movie industry during the last couple years, they are big in coming back to the community.
- 8:41SPEAKER_01: So we're super excited about that partnership.
- 8:43SPEAKER_01: And we have a pop-up, we have the Shag Store.
- 8:47SPEAKER_01: This is the first time we've ever talked about it.
- 8:49SPEAKER_01: Um, you might know them from Palm Springs and from uh Hollywood, and they are featured right in our lobby, and we're super excited.
- 8:56SPEAKER_01: The Shag artist is coming, so we have a lot more going on there.
- 8:59SPEAKER_01: And then I can just keep going on, and we're gonna have a lot of local entertainers, artists, chefs throughout the property doing a lot of pop-ups, and we need to learn how the floor is gonna be activated and energized, so we'll be featuring entertainment all over the podium floor.
- 9:17Sean McAllister: I have so many questions based off of everything you just said.
- 9:21Sean McAllister: Um but since you just said uh entertainment, is is that ticketed entertainment or how is the entertainment going to work across the property?
- 9:31SPEAKER_01: Well, our first few weeks we will be doing activations throughout the property.
- 9:35SPEAKER_01: We do have a ticketed event coming up at the pool um near term, but then in the probably within the next um month and a half, we'll be announcing when Pearl's opening, and then of course when the famous ghost bar is coming back.
- 9:48SPEAKER_01: So we'll have more of that going on as well.
- 9:50Dayna Roselli: A lot of people want to know about the buffet.
- 9:52Dayna Roselli: Is it returning?
- 9:53Dayna Roselli: And are there any cool details you can provide?
- 9:55Dayna Roselli: The buffet is very popular with the locals.
- 9:57SPEAKER_01: Oh my goodness, this buffet.
- 9:58SPEAKER_01: The buffet is in fact returning.
- 10:00SPEAKER_01: And another dangerous uh calorie count.
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: Um, this buffet has super fresh, like it's a whole fresh bar section has a vegan section that is just outstanding.
- 10:12SPEAKER_01: There's a carver station.
- 10:15SPEAKER_01: We're gonna we have a triple decker pastry station with our in-house pastry chefs, and then we're gonna have themed nights.
- 10:21SPEAKER_01: Uh and I gotta tell you, if you just want to be healthy, the oatmeal and the fresh you know, ingredients you can put on it, it's just it's really, really good.
- 10:28SPEAKER_01: So we're excited about that, having the buffet, and then when we announce our theme nights, that'll be another that that's a real popular um event at our sister property, Yamaha.
- 10:38SPEAKER_01: So we're gonna bring that back and do some have some fun with it.
- 10:41Sean McAllister: And one thing that you keep saying over and over again is the word local, local artists, local entertainers, local chefs.
- 10:51Sean McAllister: And that chef aspect I I want to hop back to because I think that's a really that's a concept that we haven't seen at other uh Las Vegas properties.
- 11:02Sean McAllister: Can you explain more about how that's gonna work, how how that collection of chefs will be uh determined?
- 11:09SPEAKER_01: Well, first we have chef Marcus O'Brien, he came back, he was at the Palms before, and he's well known locally.
- 11:15SPEAKER_01: We also have a consulting chef, Luke Palladino, and he is local.
- 11:19SPEAKER_01: He has the podcast and he has been doing a lot to support local chefs and to do a lot of training and apprenticing um of others.
- 11:26SPEAKER_01: And then when we start pop-up um chefs, we bring we bring in local chefs.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: There's such great talent here.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: And oh, by the way, if you come, you get to meet Michael Simon, and Michael Simon's outstanding.
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: He'll be here for our opening, and he he is so committed to his food.
- 11:43SPEAKER_01: Yes, he's very famous, but he's also right down to earth and he is right there in the kitchen.
- 11:48SPEAKER_01: So we believe, just like local artists, local um musicians, local comedy, local um entertainers, and local chefs, we think it all works together.
- 11:58SPEAKER_01: We have so many talented people in Las Vegas.
- 12:00SPEAKER_01: I mean, Vegas is it's not only the melting pot of cultures, but it's we have a talent base that is unmatched, all in one valley.
- 12:07SPEAKER_01: You know, two million people with a higher percentage of people that are used to being on stage and serving others.
- 12:12SPEAKER_01: So we think celebrating that, and and who knows, we might get the next future celebrity, and we might already have them here.
- 12:19SPEAKER_01: So it I think we bring them together, and you can mentor young uprising chefs with people like Michael Simon and Marcus O'Brien and Luke Palladino.
- 12:28SPEAKER_01: So that'll be really fun.
- 12:29SPEAKER_01: And we're gonna we we're really open.
- 12:31SPEAKER_01: And we when you go down the casino floor, local artists created a photo op, went in last night.
- 12:37SPEAKER_01: It's this gorgeous butterfly that is right by the high limit wall, and he proudly came in and installed it last night.
- 12:44SPEAKER_01: So that's an example of a local artist coming right here onto our floor, and we're gonna keep doing that.
- 12:49Sean McAllister: And just one other point about um the entertainment.
- 12:53Sean McAllister: I know some other casino groups on the strip, a little bit pre-pandemic, but definitely post-pandemic, really moved away from like the lounge kind of act, the smaller entertainment acts, and opted for big arena headliners, big theater headliners.
- 13:14Sean McAllister: Do you feel like you're filling a niche that's left open right now by bringing in those local entertainers?
- 13:20SPEAKER_01: You know, you raise a good point because the Vegas that many of us started growing up in, there were these lounges that had some real history and there's there's some real legacy around that.
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: And I think you still have a little bit of that.
- 13:34SPEAKER_01: I feel like the 2022 version of that might be activation or small footprint.
- 13:39SPEAKER_01: And I also think the last few years, what the world went through, smaller footprint entertainment became very important during times when you couldn't have large gatherings.
- 13:48SPEAKER_01: And I think it's picked up and I think it's really become a new trend.
- 13:52SPEAKER_01: I also think before the pandemic, people didn't necessarily sometimes you like to go to a ticketed event, it's really big.
- 13:59SPEAKER_01: Other times you want to go out and see how the the journey of the evening or the weekend goes, and you can go live music, have a little food, stop and have drinks, depending on how the social interactions go.
- 14:10SPEAKER_01: You plan your course as you go, a little more spontaneity.
- 14:13SPEAKER_01: So I think we can do that with smaller footprint.
- 14:15SPEAKER_01: And there's nothing wrong with big footprint because entertainment's important to everyone's life.
- 14:20SPEAKER_01: A little bit of everything.
- 14:22Dayna Roselli: Um let's talk about the gaming.
- 14:23Dayna Roselli: Um, more slot people are going, well, there's gonna be more slot machines.
- 14:26Dayna Roselli: Are we gonna see new games?
- 14:28Dayna Roselli: Um, the people who love their gamble to get their gambling on.
- 14:31Dayna Roselli: Uh, anything you can provide when it comes to that, gaming.
- 14:34SPEAKER_01: Well, we definitely have some legacy games.
- 14:36SPEAKER_01: Some of the some of the favorites that people come looking for, we definitely have that.
- 14:40SPEAKER_01: And we also are bringing new games on the floor and arranging it probably more in a 2022 version where it's social in small pods all throughout the floor, also with sight lines that are opened up and different zones.
- 14:53SPEAKER_01: So depending on who you're with, what you want to do.
- 14:56SPEAKER_01: Uh, what we've learned is that the west door was always the local side of the casino on the local slots, and then the east side was a little bit catering more to the customers that were staying in the hotel.
- 15:06SPEAKER_01: We'll see how that works.
- 15:07SPEAKER_01: We're mixing it up a little bit and we'll see.
- 15:09SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, we're gonna listen to the customers.
- 15:11SPEAKER_01: You know, um, we're we've done a gaming floor layout.
- 15:14SPEAKER_01: We've spent months planning that and working hard to bring in new games, interspersed with favorites, and try out some new products.
- 15:21SPEAKER_01: So it we're mixing it, and you know, with slop flop floors, they're always moving.
- 15:26SPEAKER_01: So one of the things we have to do with our employees is teach them where the games are.
- 15:30SPEAKER_01: So when a customer comes in, we can help you find your favorite game.
- 15:33SPEAKER_01: And it will there be a player's card and all that?
- 15:35SPEAKER_01: Yes, we have Club Serrano, and we are opening with multiple locations throughout the property where you can sign up to make it really, really easy.
- 15:43SPEAKER_01: And of course, our Yamaha customers already have club cards, and it's a one-card system between the two properties.
- 15:49SPEAKER_01: So we're gonna be very, you know, you're gonna see a lot about Club Serrano.
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: Please come sign up so we can build our database up.
- 15:54Sean McAllister: Obviously, when people think of the Palms, this is an iconic property.
- 16:00Sean McAllister: And it's also a property that went through a massive makeover pre-pandemic.
- 16:08Sean McAllister: San Manuel Gaming is in a fortunate position to be able to take control of a property that is recently renovated.
- 16:17Sean McAllister: But we also got questions of people saying, well, it's newly renovated.
- 16:21Sean McAllister: Is there going to be anything different from when we were last there?
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: Well, first of all, it was meticulously remodeled.
- 16:29SPEAKER_01: And quite frankly, some of the beautiful, amazing venues for which there was a heavy investment in didn't have a chance to make it.
- 16:36SPEAKER_01: Some of the restaurants opened two, three months before the worldwide closure.
- 16:42SPEAKER_01: So, for example, Tim Hawan is just an outstanding fresh dim summer restaurant.
- 16:47SPEAKER_01: They were barely opened, they barely had a chance.
- 16:49SPEAKER_01: So are they new?
- 16:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they're new.
- 16:52SPEAKER_01: They're new because we're gonna we're gonna launch them to where they didn't get to go, right?
- 16:56SPEAKER_01: So the way that the remodel happened, we understand is pe things opened in phases.
- 17:00SPEAKER_01: So we're gonna really invest in in helping everyone to become successful.
- 17:04SPEAKER_01: So I think that you'll see the palms growing into its own with some favorites and some new, well, we even new, and you know, times are different, so we're gonna react to conditions and customer uh preferences.
- 17:16Dayna Roselli: And I know the pool area was redone too.
- 17:18Dayna Roselli: It's gorgeous.
- 17:19Dayna Roselli: Um, and locals always love to know or are do we have to stay there to go to the pool?
- 17:23Dayna Roselli: Are there gonna be any times where we can go, or there's a you know, maybe a fee to get in, or is it something that locals will be able to utilize?
- 17:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the pool is opening Thursday.
- 17:32SPEAKER_01: We're opening Wednesday and the pool is opening Thursday, um, recognizing it's a busy weekend.
- 17:38SPEAKER_01: We we do have a program we're working on.
- 17:40SPEAKER_01: Not all the details are finalized because again, we're opening in four months.
- 17:43SPEAKER_01: Um, but we have a program where we'll be where you can pay to come into the pool, and we have a lot of events scheduled to pool.
- 17:50SPEAKER_01: In fact, tomorrow night we'll all be celebrating uh the opening of the palms at the pool, so with a splash mob.
- 17:56Dayna Roselli: So that'll be great.
- 17:58Dayna Roselli: Well, we were just all chatting about something about the palms is the view that you get of Las Vegas.
- 18:04Dayna Roselli: I mean, you really can't beat it.
- 18:06Dayna Roselli: And I and you guys, I'm sure, have plans to take advantage of that because you have spots that people can come that live here locally, but also tourists can come and get a view that they couldn't possibly get on the strip because you can see the whole strip.
- 18:21SPEAKER_01: We are above the strip in in feet, right?
- 18:25SPEAKER_01: So we are great above West Flamingo, is above, so you get the skyline all the way from Allegiant all the way, stadium all the way down town.
- 18:35SPEAKER_01: You can see the whole Las Vegas skyline, and it is stunningly beautiful by day and by night.
- 18:41SPEAKER_01: So, New Year's Eve, we had just gotten our gaming license.
- 18:45SPEAKER_01: We said, let's go up there and look.
- 18:47SPEAKER_01: So we took the measly little 30 of us that worked here, and we went up there to watch the fireworks.
- 18:53SPEAKER_01: And all these other years I've been down on the strip.
- 18:56SPEAKER_01: This time we were on level with the fireworks, and it was like, wow, because the palms sits right up in the sky.
- 19:05SPEAKER_01: So it's it's just beautiful.
- 19:07SPEAKER_01: So you can come and we already have weddings booked with that view.
- 19:10SPEAKER_01: And they would it's funny the bride and groom will time the photos right at sunset, and so we, you know, the wedding's gonna be at 7.16 because we know that we can get down and get pictures.
- 19:21SPEAKER_01: Um, we have all kinds of parties planned, and it's really, really beautiful.
- 19:24SPEAKER_01: And in the morning, it's beautiful.
- 19:26SPEAKER_01: If you're up for the sunrise, I'm not, but yeah, but it's really, really beautiful up there.
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: So we're quite excited about the views, unmatched views.
- 19:35SPEAKER_01: I really are.
- 19:36SPEAKER_01: So we have to maximize that.
- 19:37SPEAKER_01: I'm going to a wedding June 4th at the Palms.
- 19:40Dayna Roselli: I just RSVP'd.
- 19:41Dayna Roselli: Yes, I was excited.
- 19:42Dayna Roselli: Are you?
- 19:43Dayna Roselli: Oh, well, we'll see each other there.
- 19:44Dayna Roselli: I think we know we probably know who Zed is then.
- 19:48Dayna Roselli: Uh that's gonna be so much fun.
- 19:51Dayna Roselli: I know.
- 19:52Sean McAllister: And I know that you are extremely busy, you have a packed schedule.
- 19:55Sean McAllister: Um, but before we let you go, I mean, this has been an extremely accelerated timeline, as you pointed out.
- 20:05Sean McAllister: Um and also San Manuel Gaming is new to Las Vegas.
- 20:11Sean McAllister: What are customers going to feel that they don't feel at uh a Caesars property or an MGM property?
- 20:19Sean McAllister: And not to knock them, but what is the differentiator with San Manuel?
- 20:24SPEAKER_01: Well, initially we we know that w because we're opening so quickly, there's some learning curve.
- 20:31SPEAKER_01: We had 43 new IT systems, okay?
- 20:33SPEAKER_01: So you have 1,500 people learning 43 systems, okay?
- 20:38SPEAKER_01: And fortunately, some of them are a lot faster at learning than I'm I am, but so there's a lot of technology that we have deployed.
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: We have, you know, we're stocking the shelves, we're getting food, and we're getting all the chinaware and glassware and and fixtures to operate.
- 20:51SPEAKER_01: So the first few weeks, we know we're we're gonna have to overcome a lot of operational details and just be friendly and caring and warm.
- 21:01SPEAKER_01: So what you'll see when you walk in is that warm, friendly hospitality of employees who are gonna make it work because the accelerated timeline, you know, we we had to make a decision.
- 21:11SPEAKER_01: Should we get really well prepared and wait till the fall and open?
- 21:16SPEAKER_01: Or should we get 1400 Nevadans back to work?
- 21:18SPEAKER_01: And so we did.
- 21:19SPEAKER_01: So are we gonna we're gonna have a little bit of we have some um waves in the water, you bet, but we're gonna overcome it because we have a great team and we have a lot of confidence in them.
- 21:28SPEAKER_01: So the first few weeks we're gonna be flying.
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: Um and I think that Las Vegas, there's great employers here.
- 21:34SPEAKER_01: No matter, you know, there's a lot of different companies that you can work for.
- 21:38SPEAKER_01: So we're just proud that the people made a decision to come join us.
- 21:40SPEAKER_01: And we'll have our own personality.
- 21:42SPEAKER_01: Why?
- 21:42SPEAKER_01: Because we're a smaller company, we work for a family, we work for a tribe.
- 21:47SPEAKER_01: The gaming hospitality authority of San Manuel is a family, and uh we have a responsibility to them to represent the hospitality and commitment to service.
- 21:56SPEAKER_01: So we um we're gonna strive for Customers to feel that when they walk in the door, and we're gonna listen and we're gonna learn and we're just gonna keep getting stronger, but we're gonna go ahead and open.
- 22:07SPEAKER_01: Here we go.
- 22:08Dayna Roselli: I know.
- 22:09Dayna Roselli: And a lot of people that I talk to that I know that used to work here before are back at the property.
- 22:14Dayna Roselli: And did you guys I mean you guys did hire back people that worked at the POMS before and then new people who needed jobs as well, right?
- 22:21SPEAKER_01: And quite frankly, the reason we're sitting here on April 26th is that we have so many, we have more than 50 percent returning POMS employees, and we are shocked because they weren't here for two years.
- 22:32SPEAKER_01: So chances are that they would find other employment.
- 22:35SPEAKER_01: Our EVS department, the public area cleaning people, the vast majority are returning.
- 22:41SPEAKER_01: The catering department, 97 percent.
- 22:44SPEAKER_01: So w part of our decision to go ahead and get open is that we have some experienced, talented people.
- 22:50SPEAKER_01: You know, we're looking, we're spending weeks looking for things that came in the door and opened the closet and said, There it is, here's our give me the key.
- 22:56SPEAKER_01: So they knew how to find things and how to help us.
- 22:59SPEAKER_01: So they've made it easier for us to open.
- 23:01SPEAKER_01: Not that it's gonna be an easy opening, but they've made it easier for us to have confidence to go ahead and go for it tomorrow.
- 23:07Dayna Roselli: Well, I love your honesty.
- 23:08Dayna Roselli: I love that you know you obviously recognize that this is a big it's a big deal, it's a big undertaking.
- 23:14Dayna Roselli: And everything, I think, when it opens, you gotta figure out what works, what doesn't.
- 23:18Dayna Roselli: There might be changes.
- 23:19Dayna Roselli: It might not be the same thing that when you open in two months, it might be different.
- 23:23Dayna Roselli: So that's life, right?
- 23:25Dayna Roselli: That's life with owning any business.
- 23:27SPEAKER_01: Here we go.
- 23:28SPEAKER_01: Here we go.
- 23:29SPEAKER_01: Rock and roll, keep on pushing, we're going.
- 23:32Sean McAllister: Well, congratulations.
- 23:33Sean McAllister: We're super excited for the palms to be back, and we're super excited for you.
- 23:38Dayna Roselli: Yeah, we love having you here.
- 23:39Dayna Roselli: Again, in town, staying in town.
- 23:41Dayna Roselli: That's the key.
- 23:42Dayna Roselli: Keep everyone in town, all our good people.
- 23:44Dayna Roselli: Thank you, Cynthia.
- 23:45unknown: Thank you so much.
- 23:46Sean McAllister: What a great conversation with Cynthia.
- 23:48Sean McAllister: Uh we got some really good insights during that conversation.
- 23:52Dayna Roselli: Yeah, I thought it was a great to hear her perspective on everything.
- 23:55Dayna Roselli: You know, and like you said, just, you know, her honesty, I thought was great, which I mentioned at the end, but I love that she was just like, you know, we're opening this, everyone wants it open, we want to put people back to work.
- 24:07Dayna Roselli: Hey, some things may change, we may add some things, some things may shift.
- 24:12Dayna Roselli: You know, I I love that they just have ideas and they're open to, you know, seeing how everyone takes it and then taking the feedback and making some adjustments.
- 24:19Sean McAllister: Absolutely.
- 24:20Sean McAllister: And by the way, you can go to our Vegas Revealed social media, Vegas Revealed on Twitter, Vegas.reveed on Instagram.
- 24:29Sean McAllister: Also, you can check out our TikTok and see some highlights of the big grand opening celebration over at the Palms as the resort is now back.
- 24:40Sean McAllister: It is once again a part of the Vegas hotel casino environment.
- 24:45Dayna Roselli: I love it.
- 24:45Dayna Roselli: And you know, I love to make my reels on Instagram.
- 24:48Dayna Roselli: So there's plenty of reels on there of the palms for you to check out.
- 24:51Sean McAllister: So make sure you go and like and comment on Dana's reels and share them if you want to.
- 24:56Sean McAllister: It's good.
- 24:58Dayna Roselli: You made a really good reels right after the interview.
- 25:02Dayna Roselli: Okay, so we told you this week we're focusing on the palms, which we did, but FYI, we had a week and a half of event after event after event after event.
- 25:16Dayna Roselli: Sean, a quick, really super quick rundown.
- 25:20Dayna Roselli: We were at the win Las Vegas for a cocktail tour.
- 25:23Dayna Roselli: We were at Lisa Vanderpump's new restaurant at Paris for the opening and red carpet.
- 25:29Dayna Roselli: We saw the opening of John Legend's new show at Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood.
- 25:34Dayna Roselli: We went to Brian Newman's late night jam session show over at the Nomad at Park MGM.
- 25:42Dayna Roselli: I went to IU Day Club at Resorts World on a Sunday afternoon.
- 25:48Dayna Roselli: I think there might be other stuff in there.
- 25:50Dayna Roselli: The NFL Draft.
- 25:52Sean McAllister: The NFL Draft.
- 25:53Sean McAllister: I was just over getting a first look at Mad Apple.
- 25:56Dayna Roselli: Oh my gosh.
- 25:57Sean McAllister: The brand new Cirque du Soleil show over at New York, New York.
- 26:00Dayna Roselli: I mean, we've done a lot.
- 26:02Sean McAllister: It's been it's been non-stop.
- 26:04Sean McAllister: It's been go, go, go.
- 26:05Dayna Roselli: But we couldn't fit it all into this episode.
- 26:08Dayna Roselli: So we are saving that for next week.
- 26:09Dayna Roselli: So you just heard a full rundown of what's coming up next week on Vegas Revealed.
- 26:14Dayna Roselli: We have tidbits, details, interviews, one with Lisa Vanderpump, one with Lance Bass from InSync, who we ran into at Lisa Vanderpump's opening.
- 26:24Dayna Roselli: We got some insider information from Lance himself.
- 26:27Sean McAllister: And a collaboration he's working on with another famous boy band star.
- 26:33Sean McAllister: It's good.
- 26:34Dayna Roselli: It is good.
- 26:36Dayna Roselli: And speaking, you know, I'm just gonna pop this in there.
- 26:38Dayna Roselli: Speaking of boy bands, this is Matt Goss is not in a boy band anymore, but he was in a boy band.
- 26:44Dayna Roselli: You know, Matt, our good friend, we produce his podcast uh for many, many episodes, and he's been in the UK um debuting his new album called The Beautiful Unknown.
- 26:54Sean McAllister: Which has been like doing incredible, killing it on the charts, right?
- 26:58Dayna Roselli: In the UK.
- 26:59Dayna Roselli: He just did a show at the Palladium.
- 27:00Dayna Roselli: Um, but I wanted to point out when he did the show at the Palladium, Boy George came to the show, went backstage, and uh chatted with Matt.
- 27:09Dayna Roselli: And now I talk to Matt pretty much almost daily when he's here.
- 27:14Dayna Roselli: But when he's in the UK, we talk every few days.
- 27:16Dayna Roselli: I haven't talked to him since the Boy George meeting, but I did read in the paper, even though the papers aren't always true, that Boy George and Matt are talking about doing some music together.
- 27:27Sean McAllister: That would be cool.
- 27:28Dayna Roselli: So I gotta get Matt on the phone and figure that all out and what's going on and get the skinny.
- 27:32Dayna Roselli: But Boy George is coming to do shows this summer at the win with Culture Club.
- 27:37Dayna Roselli: So I think it's cool.
- 27:38Dayna Roselli: So he'll be in Vegas, Matt lives in Vegas, probably some studio time booked.
- 27:43Dayna Roselli: That's I don't know.
- 27:44Dayna Roselli: That's what I'm thinking.
- 27:45Dayna Roselli: But anyway, uh two very uh famous and very popular singers that that started back in the day and still have a successful career now.
- 27:56Sean McAllister: I love that.
- 27:56Sean McAllister: And by the way, if you haven't uh purchased, downloaded Matt's new album, make sure you go and do it because it is so good.
- 28:06Dayna Roselli: It really is.
- 28:07Dayna Roselli: Listen, I've been friends with Matt a long time.
- 28:10Dayna Roselli: He has written songs, created music, released albums.
- 28:15Dayna Roselli: I've enjoyed all of them.
- 28:16Dayna Roselli: But this one, I don't know, just really feels different, doesn't it?
- 28:20Dayna Roselli: It feels different.
- 28:20Dayna Roselli: It's a pop record, uh, but there's some ballads in there.
- 28:23Dayna Roselli: But the ballads even have like a pop feel.
- 28:26Dayna Roselli: It's just it's so good.
- 28:27Dayna Roselli: He does a cover of Landslide, which is incredible, which I feel like it's one of my favorites.
- 28:32Dayna Roselli: Yeah, it's so good, right?
- 28:34Dayna Roselli: And uh a lot of great, just great songs.
- 28:36Dayna Roselli: Go download it.
- 28:37Dayna Roselli: It's on iTunes, it's on Spotify, it's on all the digital platforms.
- 28:40Dayna Roselli: It's called The Beautiful Unknown.
- 28:42Dayna Roselli: Matt, a longtime resident headliner here in Vegas, and he still talks about possibly doing and uh bringing the show back here.
- 28:49Dayna Roselli: He during the pandemic, the Mirage decided to take that room and do something different with it.
- 28:54Dayna Roselli: So Matt um didn't go back to the Mirage when the pandemic was over, but I think there's always room for Matt Goss's show here in Las Vegas.
- 29:03Sean McAllister: I would love that.
- 29:05Sean McAllister: Vegas loves some Matt Goss.
- 29:07Sean McAllister: Hey, let's keep the music theme going in our tips.
- 29:13Dayna Roselli: So, Sean, because we focused on the palms, we didn't really announce, you know, we always try and put in the new show announcements that come out in Vegas.
- 29:21Dayna Roselli: And there literally is not a week that goes by that there's not a new show announcement, right?
- 29:24Dayna Roselli: So we have a uh I just thought these were great tips in a way, because it's an eclectic group of announcements this week.
- 29:32Sean McAllister: It's very eclectic.
- 29:33Dayna Roselli: And the first one I love because it's at a place that I don't think we've announced ever, like a concert, right?
- 29:42Dayna Roselli: At the Dollar Loan Center.
- 29:44Sean McAllister: No, we haven't.
- 29:45Sean McAllister: So this is the new uh arena that was built in Green Valley in Henderson, just I don't know, maybe 15-20 minutes away from the center of the strip.
- 29:55Sean McAllister: Uh, that's where the Henderson Silver Knights play.
- 29:58Sean McAllister: That's the minor league affiliate uh team for the Vegas Golden Knights.
- 30:04Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and I haven't been there yet.
- 30:06Dayna Roselli: Have you been inside the Dollar Loan Center?
- 30:08Sean McAllister: I have not.
- 30:08Sean McAllister: I was over there when it was when the construction was nearing completion, but I haven't been over uh since it's been opened, which has only been a couple weeks.
- 30:18Sean McAllister: Right, right.
- 30:19Sean McAllister: It's brand new.
- 30:20Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and I didn't realize they would have shows in there.
- 30:22Dayna Roselli: But anyway, getting to what the show is, uh rock legend Ellis Cooper is gonna perform there at the Dollar Loan Center on October 8th, uh, eight o'clock.
- 30:30Dayna Roselli: He's doing his like wrapping up apparently his like fall 2022 Detroit muscle tour and ending it in Las Vegas at the Dollar Loan Center.
- 30:40Dayna Roselli: So I thought that was cool because I was like, oh, they're gonna have shows there?
- 30:44Dayna Roselli: I love it.
- 30:44Sean McAllister: And it's a great spot.
- 30:46Sean McAllister: There's uh tailgating is is you know perfect thing to I mean, I encourage it always.
- 30:53Sean McAllister: But the district at Green Valley Ranch, which is the hotel casino that's kind of kitty corner to the arena, there's a whole complex of retail and restaurants and bars, and it's a perfect distance because you can walk straight from all those bars and restaurants over to the arena.
- 31:11Sean McAllister: Love that.
- 31:12Dayna Roselli: Yeah, I mean I I love that they're gonna have shows there and other things other than just the Silver Knights, you know, and they're gonna utilize that space.
- 31:18Dayna Roselli: So Alice Cooper coming on October 8th, right uh this year of 2022.
- 31:24Sean McAllister: And Dana, are you ready to get tin roof rusted?
- 31:28Dayna Roselli: No, I'm ready for the Love Shack baby.
- 31:31Sean McAllister: The B-52s, they are coming to Las Vegas for more than one show.
- 31:37Sean McAllister: They'll be at the Venetian theater inside the Venetian Resort October 19th, 21st, and 22nd.
- 31:45Sean McAllister: Cool.
- 31:45Sean McAllister: All those shows are supposed to begin at 8 o'clock.
- 31:49Sean McAllister: The B-52s, I've seen them uh play at Mandalay Bay Beach.
- 31:54Dayna Roselli: Oh, yeah.
- 31:54Sean McAllister: And that was fun.
- 31:55Sean McAllister: That was years ago, though.
- 31:57Sean McAllister: Okay.
- 31:57Sean McAllister: Um they're always so fun.
- 31:59Sean McAllister: Their music is great.
- 32:01Sean McAllister: So having them back in Vegas and playing the Venetian, love the B-52s.
- 32:06Dayna Roselli: Well, and it'll be special because so apparently it's been 45 years since their very first performance together.
- 32:12Dayna Roselli: So now they're doing uh what they're calling a farewell tour.
- 32:16Dayna Roselli: So they're gonna have three dates at the Venetian, so I mean, I'm assuming this'll be it for them.
- 32:21Dayna Roselli: Or they plan to, unless they, you know, come out of retirement like many people do.
- 32:25Dayna Roselli: But it says that uh they're hitting the road one last time and announcing their farewell tour and putting three dates on at the Venetian.
- 32:33Dayna Roselli: So, you know, if you want to see the B-52s for the last time together, go in October.
- 32:38Sean McAllister: And on the total other end of the spectrum from Alice Cooper in the B-52s, Dana, is Il Devo.
- 32:45Dayna Roselli: They're fantastic.
- 32:46Dayna Roselli: They're an international classical crossover vocal group, if you didn't know.
- 32:51Dayna Roselli: If you've never seen El Devo, they're fantastic.
- 32:54Dayna Roselli: They're gonna be over at the Encore Theater at The Win for one night only.
- 32:58Dayna Roselli: That's scheduled for Sunday, September 11th.
- 33:01Dayna Roselli: And sounds like it'll be a good show.
- 33:03Dayna Roselli: Tickets for the performance go on sale to the public on the 29th.
- 33:08Dayna Roselli: So as this podcast drops, it'll be out already.
- 33:11Dayna Roselli: So tickets on sale now.
- 33:13Sean McAllister: Oh, all right.
- 33:15Sean McAllister: Another packed episode again coming up next week.
- 33:18Sean McAllister: We talk with Lisa Vanderpump, Lance Bass.
- 33:21Sean McAllister: We go to John Legends' new residency show, Brian Newman at the Nomad, IU Day Club over at Resorts World.
- 33:29Sean McAllister: Uh, we'll talk about Mad Apple at New York, New York, the new Cirque du Soleil show.
- 33:34Sean McAllister: There's a lot.
- 33:36Sean McAllister: The NFL draft is gonna be wrapped up.
- 33:39Dayna Roselli: Seriously, I was exhausted after this slew of events.
- 33:44Sean McAllister: I was exhausted just saying all this.
- 33:45Dayna Roselli: I know, I know.
- 33:46Dayna Roselli: Listen, Vegas is booming.
- 33:48Dayna Roselli: We love it.
- 33:48Dayna Roselli: Um, I just uh side note, side note, ran into the governor at El Pollo Loco, and I told him, I'm excited, Vegas is booming, and we chatted all about the palms opening.
- 33:59Dayna Roselli: So random.
- 34:00Dayna Roselli: I saw the mayor getting her nails done when I was getting my eyebrows waxed last month, and now I just ran into the governor at El Pollo Loco, and I'm like, man, Vegas is a small town.
- 34:10Sean McAllister: See, now it makes me wonder who I'm gonna see when I go to Carl Jr.
- 34:13Dayna Roselli: I know.
- 34:14Dayna Roselli: True, true.
- 34:15Dayna Roselli: Hey, listen, I ran into Jared Leto this year at a random plaza breakfast spot.
- 34:20Dayna Roselli: So the stories go on and on for days.
