- 0:16Speaker 1: of the NBA plays Space. The semifinals for the conference
- 0:22Speaker 1: tournaments have started. We got Atlanta Philly. We got the
- 0:26Speaker 1: Nets in the Box. We got the Clippers playing the Jazz.
- 0:31Speaker 1: We got the Nuggets playing the Suns. All of the
- 0:33Speaker 1: series have started as we record this, except for the
- 0:37Speaker 1: Clippers and the Jazz. We're gonna have Chris Mannox, the
- 0:40Speaker 1: newest member of the Volume Podcast Network, coming on in
- 0:44Speaker 1: a minute. But first let me introduce my bff, my companion,
- 0:49Speaker 1: Professional better Sigmon hunter Man, Chad Buddy. It's an exciting day.
- 0:55Speaker 1: We get to drive. I get to drive up to
- 0:57Speaker 1: New York City during a rainstorm and party with my
- 1:00Speaker 1: Action Network crew and humidity. I cannot wait to get
- 1:05Speaker 1: up there and party with you guys. Well, dude, listen
- 1:07Speaker 1: so we can tell everybody. Yes, we are having our
- 1:10Speaker 1: first New York based happy hour since the pandemic. I'm
- 1:15Speaker 1: recording this podcast from my home in Central Connecticut. As
- 1:18Speaker 1: soon as dover, I'm gonna jump on the train. I'm
- 1:20Speaker 1: gonna be in the city. I'm gonna meet our friends
- 1:22Speaker 1: stuck you for a drink and then uh he and
- 1:25Speaker 1: I will mosey down and join everybody else. Uh for
- 1:30Speaker 1: And this is the first time so many people on
- 1:33Speaker 1: our team are meeting each other. Uh. You know, we've
- 1:37Speaker 1: added probably thirty people thirty five people to the Action
- 1:42Speaker 1: Network since July of last year, and a lot of
- 1:48Speaker 1: those people are based in New York, and so many
- 1:51Speaker 1: of them have never met each other. And I was
- 1:53Speaker 1: just talking to this to my wife about this right
- 1:55Speaker 1: before we came on. It'll be great to see everybody,
- 1:59Speaker 1: but it also feels like I see you fuckers every day,
- 2:02Speaker 1: Like I can't get off of Zoom. My entire day
- 2:05Speaker 1: is Zoom, and so I am seeing everybody NonStop, every
- 2:09Speaker 1: second of the day. So I'm thoroughly excited to see
- 2:11Speaker 1: people in three D and give people like Mike Leeboff,
- 2:14Speaker 1: who will come on later, I won't be surprised by
- 2:16Speaker 1: it this week a big hug. I'm excited to see
- 2:19Speaker 1: you and Leeboff hug um. But at the same time,
- 2:21Speaker 1: I do feel like I see people maybe more than
- 2:24Speaker 1: I ever have. Yeah. No, I'm excited, man, And you
- 2:27Speaker 1: never know, Like I know we can't talk about but
- 2:30Speaker 1: I'm always looking for my Pam to be in the gym.
- 2:32Speaker 1: So there's nothing like workplace romances, exactly what you hate.
- 2:36Speaker 1: So I'm excited for happy hour? Oh my god, can
- 2:39Speaker 1: I not say that? Are Jim and Pam dead? That's
- 2:44Speaker 1: the reason I joined the corporation. That's the only reason
- 2:46Speaker 1: I don't want a real job. I just want to
- 2:48Speaker 1: see my future wife. You know what, You're a lovable guy.
- 2:52Speaker 1: You're a stand up guy. You're one of my favorite
- 2:54Speaker 1: people in the world. You're totally rich, and you're really
- 2:58Speaker 1: good with money, and you buy BMW's with bags of cash,
- 3:02Speaker 1: and you trade crypto in stacks of you know, six figures.
- 3:06Speaker 1: So why wouldn't Why wouldn't someone want to fall in
- 3:09Speaker 1: love with you? I'm in love with you. Yeah, they
- 3:13Speaker 1: have to get used to three M wake up calls,
- 3:15Speaker 1: you know what I mean. That's that's definitely part of
- 3:17Speaker 1: the package. Vegas sacrifice for love, Simon. That's what the
- 3:20Speaker 1: troll about. That's true. So are we are? We? Are
- 3:23Speaker 1: we doing that? We dive in the NBA? Now? Is
- 3:25Speaker 1: it because you don't want me to talk about your
- 3:26Speaker 1: day tonight? Moving it on? All right? Well we'll talk
- 3:30Speaker 1: about it next week, then you get hum and tee it.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Let's bring in Chris Mannix. Chris, how are you, buddy?
- 3:34Speaker 1: What's going on? Guys, Chris? For those who don't know,
- 3:37Speaker 1: I'm sure everybody does. Uh. He is an NBA expert.
- 3:41Speaker 1: He is a boxing expert. He has been doing it
- 3:43Speaker 1: for years and years for places like NBCSN in Boston
- 3:48Speaker 1: where he's covered the Celtics and hosted shows. He's done
- 3:50Speaker 1: it for places like Sports Illustrated at the highest levels
- 3:54Speaker 1: of expertise. How did you do that? Chris? How did
- 3:57Speaker 1: you become such an NBA expert? Uh? Man? Like it
- 4:02Speaker 1: dates back to my teenage years as a ball boy
- 4:05Speaker 1: with the Celtics and you know, just being addicted to
- 4:09Speaker 1: basketball really from aged fifteen, work in those locker rooms
- 4:12Speaker 1: and getting no players on a on a different level
- 4:16Speaker 1: then and hope, you know, hopefully successfully translating it to
- 4:20Speaker 1: professional work. So it's been decades long, this uh, this
- 4:24Speaker 1: NBA ride. When what are you a ball boy for
- 4:27Speaker 1: the Celtics during the very very lean years of like
- 4:31Speaker 1: ninety five too? When I graduated from college in two
- 4:36Speaker 1: thousand three, so I crossed paths with the immortal mL Car.
- 4:41Speaker 1: I was fully immersed in the Rick Pettino years there
- 4:45Speaker 1: and actually ended on a high note when the Antoine
- 4:48Speaker 1: Walker Paul Pierce Celtics made a run at the conference
- 4:53Speaker 1: finals back in O two. That was that was at
- 4:57Speaker 1: least a fun team and a successful team to be
- 4:59Speaker 1: around it. Uh saw a lot of bad teams, a
- 5:02Speaker 1: lot of players that didn't make it too far in
- 5:05Speaker 1: the NBA. Bret Zabo, one of my all time favorites
- 5:08Speaker 1: were Goggles one years with the Celtics, so I they
- 5:11Speaker 1: had some they were they were in there were one
- 5:14Speaker 1: of the original tankers back in those days Boston was
- 5:17Speaker 1: were you a ball boy? When Chris Heron had his
- 5:21Speaker 1: run with the Celtics, I forget. I've known Chris for
- 5:24Speaker 1: a while. I'm forgetting if we crossed. I think we
- 5:29Speaker 1: did because I think he was late nineties, early two thousand.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Maybe it was for a year or two, but I've
- 5:35Speaker 1: known Chris and his family for for a number of years. Um,
- 5:40Speaker 1: you know, lives as I live in the Boston area.
- 5:42Speaker 1: He lives still lives right down the street really from
- 5:45Speaker 1: from the I don't know if I didn't know him
- 5:47Speaker 1: well in those years, but as kind of his life
- 5:51Speaker 1: and career progressive. We've got to know each other. Do
- 5:54Speaker 1: bab boys get tips at the end of the season,
- 5:57Speaker 1: do bab boys get cashed? So the way it worked,
- 6:00Speaker 1: um so I kind of worked the system earlier. I know,
- 6:02Speaker 1: the business locker room was where you got all the money. Um,
- 6:06Speaker 1: you made money working the you made like fifty dollars
- 6:10Speaker 1: a game, working on the home side and working underneath
- 6:13Speaker 1: the basket. But if you're in the business locker room,
- 6:15Speaker 1: you got tipped out basically a hundred dollars a night,
- 6:18Speaker 1: plus whatever players were willing to give you for doing
- 6:21Speaker 1: different things. So I would go across the street to
- 6:24Speaker 1: the Four's in Boston to buy food. I would go
- 6:27Speaker 1: up Causeway Street with a hand truck to buy booze
- 6:30Speaker 1: and whatever asked. I would go into the crowd to
- 6:33Speaker 1: get women's phone numbers. So you know, I was, look,
- 6:36Speaker 1: I'm in college at that point. You know, a few
- 6:38Speaker 1: hundred bucks could last me three weeks. So I was
- 6:42Speaker 1: ready willing and able to do whatever guys wanted me
- 6:45Speaker 1: to do. I mean, I gotta ask, what, how do
- 6:51Speaker 1: you when you go into the stands to ask for
- 6:54Speaker 1: a woman's number for a player or a guys number
- 6:58Speaker 1: for that matter, for a player, what is your line?
- 7:02Speaker 1: It really was so much A line is is like, hey,
- 7:05Speaker 1: you know, player X down there wanted me to grab
- 7:10Speaker 1: your phone number, and I mean look, more often than
- 7:12Speaker 1: not it was a a yes more often than not.
- 7:15Speaker 1: I feel like they didn't have two week turns out.
- 7:17Speaker 1: There was a guy named I forgot how many years
- 7:19Speaker 1: he played, Lee Naylon was his name, And I just
- 7:21Speaker 1: remember that this experience because it was one game he
- 7:24Speaker 1: came to and like he kept sending me to the
- 7:29Speaker 1: crowd for women's phone numbers. They kept saying no. So
- 7:32Speaker 1: like he picked one out, I go up, you know,
- 7:34Speaker 1: ask and they'd say no. Then I'd go back up
- 7:38Speaker 1: for another one and they'd say no. And I think
- 7:40Speaker 1: it was like three or four times in one game
- 7:42Speaker 1: I went up there and uh, ask for phone numbers.
- 7:45Speaker 1: It didn't that night didn't work out for Lee n Alan.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Oh my god, that's I remember Lee Naylan. I totally
- 7:52Speaker 1: remember Lee Naylan. Um Well, I can't imagine Paul Pierce
- 7:55Speaker 1: ever did that, because he doesn't seem like the kind
- 7:57Speaker 1: of guy who hang out in those circles, who posted
- 8:00Speaker 1: about those things on Instagram in any way, he probably
- 8:03Speaker 1: kept it pretty close and focused on the game at hand. Hey, well,
- 8:06Speaker 1: I mean I give Paul was like not some guys
- 8:08Speaker 1: in the NBA can't party and you know, show up
- 8:13Speaker 1: and be at the highest level in the next game.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Some guys, some guys can do it. Some guys can't.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Paul Pierce could do it, like he didn't skip a beat,
- 8:21Speaker 1: Like he didn't skip a beat when when he went
- 8:22Speaker 1: out and and I didn't spend and I was it
- 8:25Speaker 1: was very early in my uh my last days where
- 8:29Speaker 1: Paul's kind of first days in Boston. But um, you
- 8:33Speaker 1: know his I'll give him this man, his his dedication
- 8:36Speaker 1: to the game like it you know, maybe he went
- 8:38Speaker 1: out and he did go out and he enjoyed the city,
- 8:40Speaker 1: but he was committed man to every practice, every game,
- 8:43Speaker 1: like he was hardcore when it came to that. Some guys,
- 8:45Speaker 1: some guys, they just don't. It's like in life, right,
- 8:47Speaker 1: like some people bounce back from nights out better than others.
- 8:51Speaker 1: I never bounced back. Well, I was even in college.
- 8:54Speaker 1: I had one night in the weekend. I was it.
- 8:56Speaker 1: Some guys can do five in a row, you know,
- 8:58Speaker 1: Gary Payton could do five in a row. I presumed
- 9:00Speaker 1: could do five in a row. Um, some guys can't.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Paul Pierce. Um, you know, I never once saw Paul
- 9:07Speaker 1: Pierce any percent when he was out there on the court.
- 9:09Speaker 1: And that's not not the same you can say for everybody.
- 9:12Speaker 1: I am so nervous about going to the city tonight
- 9:14Speaker 1: and then having to go out again tomorrow night, and
- 9:16Speaker 1: then having to go out again Thursday night. I cannot
- 9:18Speaker 1: even tell you there's no way after a year and
- 9:21Speaker 1: a half of quarantine, I am equipped for three nights
- 9:23Speaker 1: in a row in New York. I want Simon to
- 9:26Speaker 1: ask the first question because I know right now he
- 9:30Speaker 1: is thinking about his very own Philadelphia seventy sixers. Said,
- 9:34Speaker 1: you know me so well, so I Um, I should
- 9:36Speaker 1: be honest, Chris. I'm heavily invested money wise in the Sixers.
- 9:39Speaker 1: I made the fatal mistake. I knew it too. I mean,
- 9:43Speaker 1: we can roll the tape. I literally said that Janice
- 9:45Speaker 1: was gonna tank because Johannese is Lamar Jackson of the NBA.
- 9:49Speaker 1: He just cannot play in the playoffs. And I said,
- 9:52Speaker 1: he's gonna get hurt and this BET's gonna be worth nothing.
- 9:54Speaker 1: And as soon as he hit the ground. I said,
- 9:56Speaker 1: oh my god, all my money just lit on fire.
- 9:59Speaker 1: But he's back, he's playing. He looked not himself, but
- 10:02Speaker 1: he played in that game. So is it stupid to
- 10:04Speaker 1: me to keep betting them there plus to win the East?
- 10:07Speaker 1: Is that a dumb bet in your opinion? I don't
- 10:09Speaker 1: think that's a dumb bet. Um. You know, the first
- 10:11Speaker 1: half was a disaster for Philadelphia in Game one, but
- 10:13Speaker 1: they played much better in the second half, and I
- 10:17Speaker 1: don't think there's any reason to believe they can't get
- 10:19Speaker 1: back into this series. And if they win this series,
- 10:22Speaker 1: they certainly have the defensive firepower to take out Brooklyn
- 10:26Speaker 1: in that next round. Um. You know, the Hawks keep
- 10:31Speaker 1: impressing me. And that's the problem. It's like, you know,
- 10:34Speaker 1: they're clearly not you know, they get to that first
- 10:36Speaker 1: round series and more attention I think was paid to
- 10:38Speaker 1: the Knicks being limited and the Hawks being really good,
- 10:41Speaker 1: when the reality is, if you go back to the
- 10:44Speaker 1: first month and a half of the season where the
- 10:46Speaker 1: Hawks were not good, they fired Lloyd Pierce. A lot
- 10:49Speaker 1: has to do with injuries, like there without Bugdanovic for
- 10:52Speaker 1: that time, there without DeAndre Hunter. Um, you know, four
- 10:55Speaker 1: or five other guys were nicked up during that stretch,
- 10:58Speaker 1: and then you know, Nate McMillan deserves a lot of
- 11:00Speaker 1: credit for what he did turn them around, but you know,
- 11:02Speaker 1: the injury report getting a lot smaller deserves just as
- 11:05Speaker 1: much at that point. So you can make an argument
- 11:07Speaker 1: the Hawks, you know, without that first month or so
- 11:10Speaker 1: of all those injuries are you know, wouldn't have been
- 11:13Speaker 1: second or third in the Eastern Conference. So they're really
- 11:15Speaker 1: really good. They're better than the five seed going into
- 11:18Speaker 1: the series. All that being said, I mean what I
- 11:20Speaker 1: saw from Philadelphia in the second half of that game,
- 11:23Speaker 1: if they can carry that over into Game two, I
- 11:26Speaker 1: still think they're they're a decent bet to win the series. Yeah,
- 11:29Speaker 1: because it is interesting the value. Um, like you just
- 11:31Speaker 1: talked about Atlanta. It's only they're only minus one twenty
- 11:33Speaker 1: right now for the series. So it is interesting when
- 11:36Speaker 1: the bookmakers aren't trusting them either. They're saying, you know what,
- 11:38Speaker 1: the Sixers did look good in that second half. Let's
- 11:41Speaker 1: just make it a coin flip and see what the
- 11:42Speaker 1: public does. In the public is the exact same way.
- 11:45Speaker 1: They don't know which decide to bet. So it feels
- 11:47Speaker 1: like we're it feels like we're kind of attributing, like
- 11:52Speaker 1: we're attacking on the past to the current version of
- 11:54Speaker 1: the Hawks. Like the Hawks from five six years ago,
- 11:57Speaker 1: like proved over a series of playoff series that they
- 12:01Speaker 1: were not a great postseason team, Like they were built
- 12:04Speaker 1: for the regular season, right the Al Horford tent Bays
- 12:06Speaker 1: more like that, that group, that group Paul millsap was
- 12:09Speaker 1: a team that could win your sixty regular season games,
- 12:12Speaker 1: but they get to the playoffs and they're really limited.
- 12:14Speaker 1: I think people are kind of attaching that stigma to
- 12:17Speaker 1: this Hawks team. This Hawks team is a lot different.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Most notably, they've got to go to score in the
- 12:22Speaker 1: fourth quarter in Tray Young, Like that's the biggest difference
- 12:24Speaker 1: in those teams. And they're backstoped by biggs that are
- 12:27Speaker 1: really good in Capella and John Collins. They've got good
- 12:30Speaker 1: three point shooters like Kevin Herder looks like he was
- 12:33Speaker 1: plucked out of the y, but he's like a stone
- 12:35Speaker 1: call three point shooter. We was fearless in those moments,
- 12:38Speaker 1: so you know they underestimated Hawks and your own risk
- 12:42Speaker 1: here because that while they're a young team and experienced team,
- 12:45Speaker 1: they are really really good team, especially at the skill positions.
- 12:48Speaker 1: It's funny you say that about Kevin Herder and my
- 12:50Speaker 1: kid and I'm my fourteen year old and I who
- 12:52Speaker 1: we watched literally almost every NBA game. We will always
- 12:56Speaker 1: say about a certain player. We just say it about
- 12:58Speaker 1: Denzel Valentine on the Bulls. Denzel Valentine walks into a
- 13:04Speaker 1: y m c A in Albany, New York. Nobody thinks, oh,
- 13:10Speaker 1: this guy plays in the NBA, and then he just
- 13:12Speaker 1: gets out there with the greatest old man game in
- 13:15Speaker 1: the world and is dominating. And Kevin Herder is that
- 13:19Speaker 1: exact replica, Like you're not gonna see Kevin Hrder will
- 13:23Speaker 1: be tall guy to think, oh, maybe this guy played
- 13:25Speaker 1: in college. You won't think, Oh, he's devastating, can make
- 13:29Speaker 1: the perfect outlet pass when your team needs the outlet pass,
- 13:33Speaker 1: and can hit the three pointer. I do want to
- 13:35Speaker 1: do one thing. I want to stick with the East
- 13:36Speaker 1: for one second because the Sixers are I believe are
- 13:40Speaker 1: a great buy a plus five. I am astonished as
- 13:43Speaker 1: we record this the Bucks are down oh two to
- 13:45Speaker 1: the Nets. I thought last night I was all in
- 13:50Speaker 1: on every element of the Bucks. Our friend Colin Cowherd,
- 13:53Speaker 1: our boss at the Volume Network, said that he liked
- 13:57Speaker 1: the Bucks to win the series, and the other day
- 13:58Speaker 1: I said to him, that's great, wait until game two
- 14:01Speaker 1: because they're gonna lose Game one and so you'll get
- 14:03Speaker 1: an advantage in the price for the series in game two.
- 14:06Speaker 1: I thought last night, I like the over two thirty
- 14:09Speaker 1: six and a half. I like Janice over thirty three
- 14:11Speaker 1: and a half points. I like Janice over five point
- 14:14Speaker 1: nine assists. I like the Bucks to win that game.
- 14:17Speaker 1: The sharp money was on the Bucks that line opened
- 14:20Speaker 1: Bucks plus two at closed Bucks minus one. Like we
- 14:24Speaker 1: were all bamboozled out of that game. So now how
- 14:27Speaker 1: do I read this? Like, like the are the Bucks done? Yeah,
- 14:33Speaker 1: like they're they're not. They're not winning four to five
- 14:37Speaker 1: against this next team, that's for sure. That's I mean,
- 14:40Speaker 1: that's it. There are optimists among us who would bet
- 14:45Speaker 1: the Bucks to win the series and think, oh, yeah,
- 14:47Speaker 1: they can still come back and win this thing, and
- 14:50Speaker 1: then you put it in very stark relief. Can they
- 14:53Speaker 1: win four to five games? I mean yeah, I was
- 14:56Speaker 1: shocked the Clippers were able to do it in the
- 14:58Speaker 1: first round against Dallas, but that was Dallas, which is effective.
- 15:01Speaker 1: Luca don Chick and a bunch of other guys. Um,
- 15:04Speaker 1: this is not this is Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, Blake
- 15:07Speaker 1: Griffins found the Fountain youth out there in uh in Brooklyn.
- 15:12Speaker 1: Who knows Harden maybe eventually comes back before the end
- 15:14Speaker 1: of the series. But yeah, you know, Milwaukee can't match
- 15:18Speaker 1: that offensive firepop and you can see a stark contrast
- 15:23Speaker 1: between what Durank can do and what Janice can do.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Johannest can still dominate the game in specific ways, but offensively,
- 15:29Speaker 1: he just can't take it over. And if Middleton's not
- 15:32Speaker 1: making shots, if Drew Holiday is not making shots like
- 15:35Speaker 1: the nets like their defension, defensive deficiencies are real, but
- 15:39Speaker 1: they can put runs on, not not like eight point runs,
- 15:42Speaker 1: like multiple sixteen to twenty point runs that just blow
- 15:45Speaker 1: games wide open, like they did last night. So I
- 15:48Speaker 1: have a hard time seeing this Bucks team being able
- 15:51Speaker 1: to keep up with Brooklyn. They might get a game,
- 15:53Speaker 1: I mean going home to be a lot of energy.
- 15:55Speaker 1: The arenably full and Milwaukee, as I've I've written this
- 15:59Speaker 1: many times because they're bubble experience, like they are a
- 16:01Speaker 1: much different team when they play at home. But the
- 16:03Speaker 1: idea that they can take four to five against this
- 16:05Speaker 1: Brooklyn team with this firepower, it just seems incredibly far fetched.
- 16:10Speaker 1: And it's interesting listen to you talk about the nuts
- 16:12Speaker 1: where I'm looking at the odds right now. And I
- 16:15Speaker 1: got lucky shot to one of our fans I got
- 16:17Speaker 1: named Chris. He hit me up early in the year
- 16:19Speaker 1: about Phoenix and his whole theory was a Chris Paul effect.
- 16:23Speaker 1: He said, Chris Paul just gets teams into the playoffs.
- 16:26Speaker 1: You should take the value. I didn't listen to them.
- 16:29Speaker 1: I think they're fifty two one. And then he dropped
- 16:30Speaker 1: the thirty two one. He hit me up again, he said,
- 16:32Speaker 1: have you to bet this yet? I said, all right,
- 16:34Speaker 1: I bet it. I sent the photo of that said
- 16:36Speaker 1: leave me alone. I bet it. I'm with you, man.
- 16:38Speaker 1: So sure enough, this kid's been hitting me up every
- 16:40Speaker 1: time they win now on the playoffs, and he's just
- 16:42Speaker 1: going crazy, and I'm trying to calm them down. Where
- 16:46Speaker 1: I feel like in the playoffs the NBA, we know
- 16:48Speaker 1: what's gonna happen, Like we know. We knew you honest
- 16:50Speaker 1: was gonna choke. We knew that the Sixers are someone
- 16:54Speaker 1: was gonna get hurt in the Sixers. It always happens,
- 16:57Speaker 1: and we know that Chris Paul is gonna get hurt
- 16:59Speaker 1: and the Western Conference Final, it's already. Let it's we
- 17:02Speaker 1: know it's gonna happen. He's gonna win this this series
- 17:05Speaker 1: against Denver, and he's gonna get hurt against the Clippers.
- 17:07Speaker 1: Am I crazy? Not the headge right now? And the Clippers?
- 17:10Speaker 1: Should I take the number? Because the Clippers right now
- 17:12Speaker 1: are plus four eight? Uh on Vandel to win it all?
- 17:15Speaker 1: Is that good value right now? No? I'm not. I'm
- 17:18Speaker 1: just not. I'm not buying the Clippers at this point.
- 17:22Speaker 1: I can't do it. Like they dug deep and showed
- 17:25Speaker 1: the kind of fortitude I didn't think they had to
- 17:28Speaker 1: beat Dallas. But would they have won that series if
- 17:31Speaker 1: Luca didn't get hurt in that Game four or Game
- 17:34Speaker 1: three and then it was affected by all through Game four?
- 17:37Speaker 1: I don't know. Would they have gotten hurt if Porzingis
- 17:40Speaker 1: wasn't awful for I mean they have one of was
- 17:43Speaker 1: awful in that series. Like that, Dallas is different than
- 17:47Speaker 1: than Utah. Like I'm a big believer in Utah, Like
- 17:50Speaker 1: I'm not here for like the Jazz or to inexperience.
- 17:53Speaker 1: Donovan Mitchell is not that guy. I One of the
- 17:55Speaker 1: most aggravating arguments I hear is that Mitchell can't And
- 18:00Speaker 1: Shack made this argument, like Mitchell can't lead a team,
- 18:03Speaker 1: you know, on a deep playoff front to a championship. Okay,
- 18:06Speaker 1: when was he supposed to do that? Like? And what
- 18:08Speaker 1: in his history? What? What series? What team he was on?
- 18:12Speaker 1: Was a championship quality team? Was it last year? No,
- 18:15Speaker 1: Bogdanovitch was out, Mike Conley played half that series, so
- 18:19Speaker 1: that wasn't it? Was it the two previous years when
- 18:21Speaker 1: he was a rookie and a second year guy, you know,
- 18:24Speaker 1: on a team that just lost Gordon Heyward. This is
- 18:26Speaker 1: the first time Donovan Mitchell has had a championship caliber
- 18:29Speaker 1: team around him, and then Mike co Lee. Injury worries me.
- 18:32Speaker 1: Anytime it's a hamstring, it worries me. But like Joe
- 18:35Speaker 1: Ingles isn't a fluke, Jordan Clarkson, a six man is
- 18:38Speaker 1: not a fluke. Rudy Gobert for a while, in my mind,
- 18:41Speaker 1: was in the m v P mix. Uh. Their chemistry
- 18:44Speaker 1: is great after being a complete mess in March of
- 18:47Speaker 1: last year. Like I'm I'm a believer in Utah and yeah, look,
- 18:51Speaker 1: this is a proven kind of series against two top
- 18:53Speaker 1: guys in Kawai and Paul George. But I'm just you know,
- 18:57Speaker 1: the Clippers didn't show me enough to make me believe
- 19:00Speaker 1: that they have turned this proverbial corner. And you know
- 19:04Speaker 1: this is this will be the first Clipper franchise in
- 19:06Speaker 1: fifty years to make it to a conference finals. I don't.
- 19:09Speaker 1: I'm just not buying that yet. It's so interesting because
- 19:13Speaker 1: the Jazz are a case study for nobody being interested
- 19:19Speaker 1: in them, everybody looking for alternatives. The East is different,
- 19:23Speaker 1: like you got the Nets, the Bus, the Sixers, like
- 19:25Speaker 1: they've been trading back and forth all year, and so
- 19:26Speaker 1: everyone can have an opinion. It can be a third
- 19:28Speaker 1: or third or third. The Jazz had been the best
- 19:31Speaker 1: team in the NBA all season long. They have not
- 19:35Speaker 1: wavered from that. Every other team has struggled, every other
- 19:39Speaker 1: team has shown weaknesses. The Suns made a run, but
- 19:43Speaker 1: the Jazz held them off, and they've basically been the
- 19:45Speaker 1: best team in the NBA the entire season. The odds
- 19:48Speaker 1: on them about plus one forty to win the NBA title,
- 19:51Speaker 1: to win the Western Conference. I mean, um, nobody wants
- 19:56Speaker 1: the Jazz, so my challenge to you, Chris Manno's NBA
- 19:59Speaker 1: at Spurt. You are loving the Jazz. That said, the
- 20:03Speaker 1: value on the Jazz is not that great. So do
- 20:08Speaker 1: you put your money in the Jazz because you think
- 20:12Speaker 1: that's the team that is going to be the toughest
- 20:13Speaker 1: to beat, or do you make a value play on
- 20:15Speaker 1: somebody else because the odds the value on somebody else
- 20:18Speaker 1: might be better. Look, you can make a value play
- 20:21Speaker 1: on the Clippers, for sure. I mean, I mean Kauai
- 20:24Speaker 1: kind of showed that what he is able to take
- 20:27Speaker 1: over a series, he can not win it by himself
- 20:31Speaker 1: in the same way Lebron has been able to win
- 20:33Speaker 1: by himself, but on that next level, Like what I'm
- 20:35Speaker 1: seeing or what I saw from Kauai in that first
- 20:38Speaker 1: round was the same stuff I saw in two thousand
- 20:40Speaker 1: nineteen when he led the Raptors to a championship, the
- 20:42Speaker 1: same stuff I saw in two thousand fourteen when he
- 20:45Speaker 1: was the leader of that that Spurs team. Like he
- 20:48Speaker 1: can dominate on both ends of the floor. So yeah,
- 20:51Speaker 1: I mean, I think the Clippers are a pretty good
- 20:53Speaker 1: value because in any series in the Western Conference moving forward,
- 20:59Speaker 1: they're going to have an argument to having at least
- 21:02Speaker 1: two of the three best players on the floor in
- 21:05Speaker 1: Kauai and PG. And as we've seen in the playoffs
- 21:08Speaker 1: in the past, stars matter, like you know, the ability
- 21:12Speaker 1: of big time players to step up and and make
- 21:15Speaker 1: plays is a real thing. So yeah, the Clippers I
- 21:18Speaker 1: think are a high value play. I just I just can't.
- 21:22Speaker 1: It's like, fool me once, Shame on me, you know,
- 21:25Speaker 1: shame ony, shame on me. It's like the Clippers. We've
- 21:28Speaker 1: seen this, we saw it last year and the Clippers
- 21:30Speaker 1: aren't responsible for previous incarnations of their team. But you know,
- 21:33Speaker 1: the two thousand fifteen Lobs City Clippers didn't get very far.
- 21:37Speaker 1: I just I need to see more resolve from the
- 21:40Speaker 1: Clippers before I believe that they're true you know, conference
- 21:44Speaker 1: championship contender. And it's interesting, like we're talking about how
- 21:47Speaker 1: everything's going these playoffs, and right now you can find
- 21:51Speaker 1: a really good value on FanDuel on the m v
- 21:54Speaker 1: P of the finals. So if you have a team
- 21:56Speaker 1: that you're really thinking right now and you really like
- 21:58Speaker 1: them to make it all right now, we're talking about
- 22:01Speaker 1: the Sun's being one of these teams that couldn't make it.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Potentially Chris Paul. Uh for him to get m VP
- 22:08Speaker 1: right now in uh the NBA Finals, it's forty one.
- 22:13Speaker 1: So I feel like that's pretty good value. If you're
- 22:15Speaker 1: looking at the Suns because they're their odds have shot
- 22:17Speaker 1: way up there only you know, plus a thousand and
- 22:20Speaker 1: win the NBA Championship, I feel like if they're gonna
- 22:22Speaker 1: win it all, it's gonna because of Chris Paul. He
- 22:24Speaker 1: just seems like he's facilitating that old team. Do you
- 22:26Speaker 1: do you like that? I feel like that, like if
- 22:28Speaker 1: the Suns win, like Devin Booker will be Finals MVP
- 22:31Speaker 1: and like, but everybody was saying, it's like Chris Paul
- 22:33Speaker 1: got him there. Like Chris Paul's numbers won't be high
- 22:35Speaker 1: enough too to overcome Booker for Finals MVP, because Booker
- 22:39Speaker 1: will average like thirty plus in championship series. But like
- 22:43Speaker 1: Chris Paul will get the lion's share of the credit
- 22:46Speaker 1: for you know, gluing this team together and making them
- 22:49Speaker 1: into a venerable playoff team. Meanwhile, the numbers that Booker
- 22:54Speaker 1: will put up will just be overwhelmingly big. So I
- 22:57Speaker 1: I it's it's not a bad bet, it's just that
- 22:59Speaker 1: I feel like, you know, Chris Paul's being set up
- 23:03Speaker 1: to being like the Missing Lake and Missing Legs get
- 23:05Speaker 1: a lot of credit, but they don't often win hardware. Yeah.
- 23:08Speaker 1: I actually made this bet earlier in the year, and
- 23:10Speaker 1: the odds are still good in my opinion. James Harden's
- 23:12Speaker 1: plus nine hundred to be the NBA Finals m v P,
- 23:15Speaker 1: and I could just see Kyrie and Durant just getting
- 23:19Speaker 1: him that award. Like there they would like not play
- 23:21Speaker 1: with their food, but I could see them doing something
- 23:23Speaker 1: like down the finals where they're just dominating when every
- 23:25Speaker 1: team they're playing. They're just gonna let hard and chuck
- 23:27Speaker 1: up a lot of threes and he could easily get
- 23:29Speaker 1: that award. You think they're still good value there, I
- 23:31Speaker 1: mean plus nine hundred, that's not terrible because we all
- 23:33Speaker 1: think the nets are probably gonna be the NBA Finals
- 23:35Speaker 1: at this point. I mean just but just watching Durant
- 23:37Speaker 1: play and like the effortlessness with which he's playing, like
- 23:41Speaker 1: he may elect to say, all right, we're gonna try
- 23:44Speaker 1: to get James. What we've seen in what we've seen
- 23:47Speaker 1: from Durant in previous finals, the two healthy ones that
- 23:49Speaker 1: he played in, he was just dominant from the what
- 23:54Speaker 1: was the series that won five games with two thousands
- 23:56Speaker 1: seventeen or if you think it was still on the
- 23:57Speaker 1: seventeen with five games with Cleveland. It was most add
- 24:00Speaker 1: five game series I've ever seen because it only swung
- 24:04Speaker 1: because Durant played out of his mind and made ridiculous
- 24:08Speaker 1: shots to help, you know, beat beat back Lebron and Cleveland.
- 24:12Speaker 1: I have a feeling I'm not at this, but I'm
- 24:15Speaker 1: not sure a final series will be all that close
- 24:17Speaker 1: because the firepowered Brooklyn is is just astonishing and I'm
- 24:21Speaker 1: not sure how any of the teams in the West
- 24:22Speaker 1: would be able to keep up with him. But I
- 24:24Speaker 1: can see Durant having another thirty point per game type
- 24:27Speaker 1: of series. He's just clicking so well offensively right now.
- 24:30Speaker 1: Now Harden, Harden can jump into that mix because he's
- 24:32Speaker 1: gonna put up like fourteen and like seven and that'll
- 24:37Speaker 1: put him in the conversation. But ultimately I'd leave George
- 24:39Speaker 1: Durant because the scoring numbers are just gonna be astonishing. Alright,
- 24:43Speaker 1: So I feel like I know which way you're leaning
- 24:45Speaker 1: for our last question. Give me your finals matchup and
- 24:51Speaker 1: your team that wins it off. Yeah, I'm leaning pretty
- 24:55Speaker 1: hard towards Brooklyn to get to the finals in the
- 24:58Speaker 1: Eastern Conference, Like their defense has been a little bit
- 25:01Speaker 1: better than it was during the regular season when it
- 25:04Speaker 1: was twenty three in the NBA. We mentioned Blake like
- 25:07Speaker 1: he's pretty comfortable, you know, playing that five spot Bruce
- 25:10Speaker 1: Brown prior to Dorchester. He's playing well for this team,
- 25:14Speaker 1: and that's you know, these these things always happen, Like
- 25:16Speaker 1: you get these um this is where you gotta hit
- 25:19Speaker 1: on these guys like the Bruce Browns. The second round
- 25:21Speaker 1: picks the guys that can make place. That's the what
- 25:23Speaker 1: gets you over the line for a championship. So I
- 25:26Speaker 1: like Brooklyn against any of the three teams remaining in
- 25:29Speaker 1: the Eastern Conference West is it's tough, man, Like I'm
- 25:32Speaker 1: gonna lean towards Utah to come out of the West.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Some believe in them all season long. And I'm a
- 25:36Speaker 1: big believer that Donovan Mitchell is ready to take his
- 25:39Speaker 1: game to the next level, a big believer that Rudy
- 25:41Speaker 1: Gobert is going to be such a presence like Kauai
- 25:44Speaker 1: got to the basket so many times in that Dallas series.
- 25:47Speaker 1: Dallas played like a two three zone for much of it,
- 25:50Speaker 1: Like Boban bugged down a victor, but we had a Vick.
- 25:53Speaker 1: He like he resembles the Rudy Gobert physically, like hit wise,
- 25:57Speaker 1: but he's not even close to what Rudy can do
- 25:59Speaker 1: a defensive end of the floor. So I like you
- 26:02Speaker 1: talk to get out of the West, but meant to
- 26:04Speaker 1: get perhaps steamrolled by you know, the Nets offense in
- 26:07Speaker 1: the finals. All right, there you have it. The newest
- 26:10Speaker 1: member of the Volume Network family, Mr Chris Mannox brand
- 26:15Speaker 1: new podcast debuting on the Volume NBA expert boxing expert.
- 26:19Speaker 1: He proved it today how much he's learned about the
- 26:23Speaker 1: NBA starting his career as a ballboy to the Celtics. Chris,
- 26:27Speaker 1: thanks for coming on, buddy, my pleasure. Guys, talked to
- 26:29Speaker 1: you later. Thanks Christ All right, now we gotta bring
- 26:34Speaker 1: in Action Networks Hockey genius, resident Islander fan, a man
- 26:42Speaker 1: celebrating because the Islanders are on the verge of knocking
- 26:46Speaker 1: out the hated Boston Bruins. Also our soccer boss, so
- 26:52Speaker 1: we're super excited about the Euros starting this week. Appropriately
- 26:56Speaker 1: dressed for those who will watch a video Islanders Jersey
- 26:59Speaker 1: Islanders Olds will have Simon Hunter's favorite person they'll meet
- 27:03Speaker 1: tonight for the first time at the Action Network Happy Hour.
- 27:06Speaker 1: They'll hug, I'll take a picture of it. I'll put
- 27:08Speaker 1: it on the Twitter. We we didn't make you wait.
- 27:10Speaker 1: We didn't make you wait. Listen to a lot of
- 27:11Speaker 1: NBA chatter. Yeah, actually, I appreciate that. I consider myself
- 27:15Speaker 1: a pretty punctual person, but I always want to be
- 27:17Speaker 1: rewarded for that punctuality. And this time I was you
- 27:19Speaker 1: guys are getting better at this Every week now I
- 27:22Speaker 1: get all these Twitter people saying like, can you please
- 27:25Speaker 1: provide some juice to this podcast? These guys are talking
- 27:27Speaker 1: about the Tennessee Titans win total it's been on Flag Day?
- 27:32Speaker 1: Can we please? Can we move it along to something
- 27:33Speaker 1: more important? All right, we'll give us your take on
- 27:36Speaker 1: on something important right now. The Islanders lead three to
- 27:40Speaker 1: the Canadiens, uh whitewash the Winnipeg Jets, the Vegas Golden Knights,
- 27:46Speaker 1: and Colorado is what is that tied it to? And
- 27:50Speaker 1: Tampa Bay leads Carolina three one in the series. Those
- 27:53Speaker 1: two are playing tonight tonight giving a take, well, I mean,
- 27:58Speaker 1: just on the Islanders. I'm like physically sick from last
- 28:02Speaker 1: night's game. I don't know if I've ever huge win.
- 28:05Speaker 1: These games are nail biters there, they are sicken. They were,
- 28:09Speaker 1: you know, up five two in the third and Boston
- 28:11Speaker 1: cuts it to five four with you know, an eternity
- 28:13Speaker 1: left six minutes and my wife is a Bruins fan
- 28:16Speaker 1: and kept saying like, there's no way they're going to
- 28:17Speaker 1: tie this game, and obviously I thought else, you know,
- 28:20Speaker 1: the the opposite, And at the at the end of
- 28:23Speaker 1: the game, like I just kind of my body collapse
- 28:25Speaker 1: and stuff, and I took my dog for a walk
- 28:27Speaker 1: and just had a like a real breakdown by there's
- 28:31Speaker 1: a canal around the block, and just thought about, you know,
- 28:33Speaker 1: it's not gonna get better than that, So maybe just
- 28:35Speaker 1: walking into the cannec canal and never returning, um being
- 28:38Speaker 1: one with like a Greenland shark or something from that's
- 28:41Speaker 1: a call back to last week's episode for the Get It. Yeah,
- 28:44Speaker 1: it could be the I used it, by the way,
- 28:46Speaker 1: I used your line when I recorded on Colin's podcast
- 28:50Speaker 1: on Friday, and I gave a very strong take on
- 28:53Speaker 1: why aliens exist and why they could be anything, including
- 28:56Speaker 1: a shark. And it turns out Carl Sagan probably the
- 29:00Speaker 1: foremost scientist of our time believed in extraterrestrial life. It's
- 29:05Speaker 1: great to hear. But yeah, I mean, it's been a
- 29:07Speaker 1: it's been a roller coaster series. I was at Game
- 29:10Speaker 1: three and four. Islanders lose Game three in a game
- 29:12Speaker 1: they played really well. It was raining outside after the game,
- 29:16Speaker 1: and uh, I drive a two thousand four Chevy Suburban
- 29:19Speaker 1: right now and the lights don't work on the inside.
- 29:22Speaker 1: And my friend was at the game with me, set
- 29:24Speaker 1: elsewhere and beat me to the car. And I've been
- 29:27Speaker 1: bringing pizza to the to the games for like the tailgate.
- 29:29Speaker 1: I'll just bring a big box of pizza. And I
- 29:32Speaker 1: come into the car. I see him. He's sitting alone
- 29:34Speaker 1: in the dark. It's pouring rain. Um and I opened
- 29:36Speaker 1: the door and I expected him to be like, uh funk,
- 29:39Speaker 1: that sucked whatever, But I opened the door and he
- 29:41Speaker 1: just goes. I had another slice of pizza. It was
- 29:44Speaker 1: still delicious, and from that moment on, like, I felt
- 29:48Speaker 1: a little bit relieved and thought, all right, there's no
- 29:50Speaker 1: way they're gonna lose Game four. So they win Game
- 29:52Speaker 1: four in one of the craziest atmospheres I've ever seen.
- 29:55Speaker 1: I mean, I don't I keep inviting you to the
- 29:57Speaker 1: game's chat um and you keep turning me down. The
- 30:01Speaker 1: people were bleeding from the head inviting the strong word
- 30:03Speaker 1: you mentioned I should come, but then you don't follow
- 30:05Speaker 1: up with specifics. You don't need specifics. It's the Colosseum.
- 30:09Speaker 1: It's like going to the zoo. You just kind of
- 30:10Speaker 1: show up and you're gonna get in. I used to
- 30:12Speaker 1: sneak into games all the time. I had a friend
- 30:13Speaker 1: who snuck into Game four. I mean, with COVID and
- 30:16Speaker 1: all that stuff, that's got to be pretty tough to do,
- 30:19Speaker 1: but he did it because it's the Colosseum, and um,
- 30:21Speaker 1: somebody was bleeding from their head after getting hit with
- 30:23Speaker 1: a beer bottle. That's definitely not your speed, right, Like
- 30:27Speaker 1: Midge Mazel was there, Like, that's more of your speed.
- 30:29Speaker 1: You're much more of a Midge Mazel show up, probably
- 30:32Speaker 1: leaveing the second period, kind of kind of fan and
- 30:35Speaker 1: just get your wave on the JumboTron. So she didn't
- 30:38Speaker 1: like to be escorted. I mean, that was one of
- 30:40Speaker 1: the craziest atmospheres I've ever been to. They win and
- 30:43Speaker 1: then win again, and um, I just keep having this
- 30:46Speaker 1: thought that, like I don't understand how anybody wins the
- 30:49Speaker 1: Stanley Cup, both fans and players, because it's just so
- 30:52Speaker 1: so goddamn exhausting. Like, I'm so tired. I don't want
- 30:56Speaker 1: it to end, obviously, but at the same time, like
- 30:58Speaker 1: I don't want it to continue. I kind of hope
- 30:59Speaker 1: they just cancel the rest of the playoffs or something
- 31:01Speaker 1: because I'm just so tired. But there's still money to
- 31:05Speaker 1: be made as a Flyers fan, that team kept going
- 31:08Speaker 1: to Stanley Cup finals and losing. You don't know what
- 31:10Speaker 1: suffering is yet, buddy, So you got a long road
- 31:12Speaker 1: ahead against you. I was just gonna ask you. I
- 31:14Speaker 1: don't want to jinx you guys, but I would love
- 31:16Speaker 1: to know what your view is of the Lightning, Like
- 31:18Speaker 1: how you view you guys matching up with them, and
- 31:21Speaker 1: like what what is the difference for each team? Yeah, so, so,
- 31:24Speaker 1: I mean the Islanders, Um, they're very disciplined, especially defensively.
- 31:28Speaker 1: They were one of the least penalized teams in the
- 31:30Speaker 1: in the league. The Bruins coach actually yesterday or this morning,
- 31:33Speaker 1: got fined twenty dollars for criticizing the officials from last
- 31:37Speaker 1: night's game, saying that they're treating the Islanders like the
- 31:39Speaker 1: New York Saints around the New York Islanders, and uh,
- 31:42Speaker 1: New York Saints actually are defunct lacrosse team that played
- 31:45Speaker 1: at NASA colle cum. So if he knew that, that
- 31:47Speaker 1: coudas to Bruce Cassidy. He's a handsome dude too, so
- 31:50Speaker 1: we like him. But he uh, But then Barry Trots
- 31:54Speaker 1: is like, we were one of the least penalized teams
- 31:55Speaker 1: in the in the league for all seasons, So I
- 31:57Speaker 1: don't know what he's talking about. And that's really important
- 31:59Speaker 1: against the Lightning, who have just been clicking at an
- 32:01Speaker 1: absurd rate on the power play. Look, the Islanders and
- 32:04Speaker 1: Lightning haven't played each other yet the season because of
- 32:06Speaker 1: the introdivisional schedule, but the Tampa Bay's division that much
- 32:10Speaker 1: more open style of play. They Florida and Carolina games
- 32:14Speaker 1: have been high scoring, like you're just not going to
- 32:16Speaker 1: run into that with the Islanders, It's going to be
- 32:17Speaker 1: much more of a slog And that's why I think
- 32:20Speaker 1: that you know, they do stand a chance both against
- 32:23Speaker 1: the Lightning and if they go further against you know,
- 32:25Speaker 1: Vegas or Colorado or even Montreal, Like this is a
- 32:28Speaker 1: team that is able to turn games into coin flips
- 32:30Speaker 1: and the betting market continues to disrespect them. So if
- 32:33Speaker 1: you turn games into coin flips and you got a
- 32:34Speaker 1: plus number next to you, you're you're always gonna take
- 32:36Speaker 1: that leaveoff. When you were standing next to the canal
- 32:39Speaker 1: and contemplating how you can go on, uh, I need
- 32:46Speaker 1: I need to check on, like what you were doing physically?
- 32:48Speaker 1: Were you quiet, were you tearing up? Where were you
- 32:53Speaker 1: feeling it? Give me some details. You know, I was
- 32:55Speaker 1: tearing up. I was walking my dog, which was the
- 32:57Speaker 1: saving grace right like he does. He doesn't deserve that,
- 33:00Speaker 1: so I didn't he. I brought Elvis back home safe
- 33:02Speaker 1: and sound, but you know, like it was like more
- 33:04Speaker 1: of like a catcher's uh squat collapse, like where I
- 33:07Speaker 1: just you know, I started losting. You know. I was
- 33:09Speaker 1: listening to was that's not by Erasier a little respect
- 33:13Speaker 1: because that's what I feel like, the islanders just don't
- 33:14Speaker 1: get any respect. So I was listening to that and
- 33:16Speaker 1: having myself a cry by the by the water. Um
- 33:20Speaker 1: it's it was somebody else's property too, So if they
- 33:22Speaker 1: came outside and saw that, they're probably gonna be really confused.
- 33:25Speaker 1: But then I would just you know, take my air
- 33:27Speaker 1: pods out so they could hear the music and then
- 33:29Speaker 1: maybe they would get it. And they're like, oh, this
- 33:30Speaker 1: guy's just he's having an erasier moment. He just said,
- 33:35Speaker 1: were you wearing any Islanders gear? Was I'm wearing exactly
- 33:38Speaker 1: what I'm wearing right now, which is my blue blue jersey,
- 33:42Speaker 1: my hat. Um. Yeah, I was just walking the dog
- 33:44Speaker 1: and in my in my guard because I honestly, as
- 33:47Speaker 1: soon as the game was over, my wife went upstairs
- 33:48Speaker 1: because she was sad that the Bruins lost, and I
- 33:51Speaker 1: just walked outside with the dog and we didn't say
- 33:53Speaker 1: a word, um at all to each other. And I
- 33:56Speaker 1: think she kind of understood what I was feeling, and
- 33:58Speaker 1: I understood with less empathy what she was feeling, and uh,
- 34:02Speaker 1: you know, I was. I was complaining to her this morning,
- 34:05Speaker 1: like I just don't know how I can go on,
- 34:06Speaker 1: and She's like, I'm about to go to work in
- 34:08Speaker 1: the emergency room, so you better shut the funk up.
- 34:11Speaker 1: You're right, And I was like, well, I gotta go
- 34:14Speaker 1: to work too. I gotta talk about like Turkey soccer
- 34:17Speaker 1: team and all sorts of this is this is not
- 34:20Speaker 1: an easy job. Come on, you know what, North Macedonia,
- 34:23Speaker 1: like there's a lot, there's a lot going on. Oh
- 34:25Speaker 1: my god, leaveoff if you weren't sort of the degenerate
- 34:30Speaker 1: Islanders fan that you are. Can you look at any
- 34:32Speaker 1: of these odds objectively and say, with the team's remaining,
- 34:36Speaker 1: where do I put my money? Yeah? I think the
- 34:38Speaker 1: better way to do it is to um maybe looking
- 34:41Speaker 1: like the player markets, which is like con smythe because
- 34:44Speaker 1: I think that there's some value on a couple of
- 34:46Speaker 1: guys on Vegas, Max Petria Ready and uh Jonathan marchess
- 34:51Speaker 1: So and and William Carlson are all decent odds like
- 34:53Speaker 1: twenty one or longer close to that, and um because
- 34:57Speaker 1: I think at this point, like the the numbers are
- 34:59Speaker 1: up pretty much in where they should be. If you
- 35:01Speaker 1: want to attach your wagon to a team, probably buying
- 35:05Speaker 1: low on the Bruins is probably the best value on
- 35:07Speaker 1: the board. Or if you want to like roll a
- 35:09Speaker 1: parlay with the Hurricanes money lines for the to win
- 35:12Speaker 1: the next three games against um, the Lightning, because there
- 35:15Speaker 1: will be value on each game. I think, um, that's
- 35:19Speaker 1: how I would do it, but you know I would
- 35:21Speaker 1: I would just wait for that. Maybe if if you
- 35:24Speaker 1: know Vegas loses tonight, maybe betting them um to either
- 35:27Speaker 1: win the series or to win the Stanley Cup could
- 35:30Speaker 1: also provide some value. And the the other thing is
- 35:33Speaker 1: like I want to bet the Canadians because that number,
- 35:35Speaker 1: I think they're like, you know, under single digits. Like
- 35:38Speaker 1: as soon as that matchup gets set, their their numbers
- 35:40Speaker 1: gonna tick up, and uh, they're gonna be huge underdogs
- 35:44Speaker 1: in that series. So I would just wait for that
- 35:46Speaker 1: one to settle before getting involved there. But that's a
- 35:48Speaker 1: that's a hell of a team. That's been a fun
- 35:50Speaker 1: one to watch. It was an incredible fan base to
- 35:53Speaker 1: the Canadians fans. Simon. Any final thoughts from libaf before
- 35:57Speaker 1: we all get to see each other and have a
- 35:59Speaker 1: big group hug later tonight, Yeah, leave off. I'm I
- 36:03Speaker 1: told Chad already, I'm looking for my Pam. I'm trying
- 36:06Speaker 1: to be Jim. Is that you tonight? Will you be
- 36:08Speaker 1: my Pam? I don't know, I don't think, I don't
- 36:12Speaker 1: think so, but yeah, I would just I would caution
- 36:14Speaker 1: you, you you know, you know you don't wanna. HR will
- 36:18Speaker 1: be watching. HR probably be there. We want to make
- 36:20Speaker 1: sure that everyone has a has a good time, but
- 36:22Speaker 1: we'll find you a pam, I'm going for we have
- 36:26Speaker 1: married people in HR, so I'm That's what I'm going after.
- 36:28Speaker 1: I feel like that's really what you want to do, right, Yeah,
- 36:31Speaker 1: you just want to completely wreck a home. That's exactly
- 36:34Speaker 1: what you want to do. That's just like Jim. I guess,
- 36:36Speaker 1: like Jim kind of wrecked at home, right, exactly, Jim's
- 36:38Speaker 1: at home wreck Yeah, he wrecked the guy who was
- 36:40Speaker 1: in mayor of east Town as the frank and mayor
- 36:43Speaker 1: of Eastown speaking of Philly. Wait, yeah, wait, are you
- 36:49Speaker 1: kidding me? No? I didn't even recognize that dude. Yeah,
- 36:54Speaker 1: that's kidding wins Let's ex mayor's ex husband in mayor Eastown?
- 36:58Speaker 1: Is uh? Is the guy am dumped? Yea, wow he
- 37:04Speaker 1: must he's like type cast into Pennsylvania. I guess right,
- 37:07Speaker 1: you know Scranton guy in one show. Now he's you know,
- 37:10Speaker 1: some Philly trash in the next one. I already miss
- 37:14Speaker 1: murdered her, like I can't. I am so sad that
- 37:17Speaker 1: shows that on, but I keep watching the clip anyways,
- 37:19Speaker 1: It's yeah, there was a lot of fun just listening
- 37:23Speaker 1: to those people talk. It was the best. It was
- 37:25Speaker 1: totally the best, you know, what else is the best?
- 37:27Speaker 1: Lee Boff in his Islanders gear, listening to a razer
- 37:33Speaker 1: having a moment by a canal on somebody else's property,
- 37:36Speaker 1: taking a knee full on teers, contemplating if he's going
- 37:41Speaker 1: to jump into the canal, and the only thing keeping
- 37:43Speaker 1: him from doing it is that he's going to get
- 37:45Speaker 1: his dog back home, because his dog doesn't deserve that
- 37:49Speaker 1: kind of faith right after after a win too. That's
- 37:54Speaker 1: after a win that tells you everything about Mike Leeboff,
- 37:58Speaker 1: Mike Leeboff's perspect active and Mike Leaboff as a better
- 38:02Speaker 1: the the angst of winning is almost too much to bear,
- 38:07Speaker 1: Like the the pain of losing is actually easier to
- 38:12Speaker 1: manage than the angst of winning. Yeah, because it's easier
- 38:15Speaker 1: to feel bad for yourself if you lose. It's a
- 38:17Speaker 1: lot harder to do it after you win. Yeah. Words
- 38:22Speaker 1: to live by for all future gamblers. Mike Leaboff. We
- 38:25Speaker 1: will see you later tonight, Simon Hunter. I will see
- 38:28Speaker 1: you later tonight after your date when which you are
