- 0:00Speaker 1: The Force will be with you always. Hello and welcome
- 0:20Speaker 1: back to another episode of Star Wars Alliance. Of course,
- 0:25Speaker 1: I'm your host, Clay, and with me hopefully for the
- 0:28Speaker 1: remainder of this recording. Internet is slowly just disintegrating on
- 0:34Speaker 1: her side. Katie, Katie, how you doing? Don't do a hi?
- 0:40Speaker 2: No, I don't know if that's the problem. I have
- 0:42Speaker 2: an Internet outed in my area, so we're hot spotting
- 0:44Speaker 2: this bitch. Yeah, but I have back in my normal setup.
- 0:50Speaker 2: You can't see that because we're not live. But Clay
- 0:53Speaker 2: cad which means.
- 0:56Speaker 1: I was gonna say you can't hear it, you can
- 0:58Speaker 1: definitely hear. The better quality is sound.
- 1:02Speaker 2: I do apologize, guys for that aspect, but you know
- 1:06Speaker 2: what it is. What it is. We're here to party.
- 1:09Speaker 2: It talked about the Underworld.
- 1:10Speaker 1: And we are here to talk about Tales of the Underworld.
- 1:14Speaker 1: We had a tiny discussion about it before recording. Now
- 1:20Speaker 1: we will still hit those points because I think it
- 1:23Speaker 1: is very important to hit those points in this review, guys.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Tales of the Underworld released a total of six episodes
- 1:31Speaker 1: on May the fourth. Three of them were centered around
- 1:39Speaker 1: Assage Ventris, while the other three centered around cad Baine,
- 1:48Speaker 1: I sent Katie the gift of Pedro Pascal, laughing and
- 1:54Speaker 1: then turning into crying and said, only four minutes into
- 1:58Speaker 1: Tales of the Underworld, and this is how I feel. Guys.
- 2:02Speaker 1: I I am a very I'm a sucker for any
- 2:10Speaker 1: story that makes you feel feelings. And I will say
- 2:17Speaker 1: this we questioned when we saw a SaaS Venturess being
- 2:23Speaker 1: advertised for the Bad Batch. We said, holy shit, they
- 2:28Speaker 1: are actually saying, Hey, that book that everybody loves about
- 2:35Speaker 1: Assa's Venturess and her continued story throughout the Star Wars universe. Yeah,
- 2:39Speaker 1: f that book. That's what we thought. And then we
- 2:42Speaker 1: started We're like, oh, you know, screw this. We hate
- 2:46Speaker 1: the direction that they're going, but maybe, but maybe maybe
- 2:49Speaker 1: it could work. Maybe it could work if they did
- 2:51Speaker 1: this or this or this, and we were trying to
- 2:54Speaker 1: figure out how they could still keep that book in canon,
- 2:57Speaker 1: and guys, they did exactly that.
- 3:02Speaker 2: It was what we had theorized that Massage was going
- 3:06Speaker 2: to get brought back to life by the Knight Sisters
- 3:09Speaker 2: Allah Darth Maul, but in this instance, she is not
- 3:14Speaker 2: brought back by force of will, because like taosand did
- 3:19Speaker 2: to mall or thousand and interested to maul in this case,
- 3:24Speaker 2: she's offered an option. And here brings us to our
- 3:27Speaker 2: first discussion piece. She is said, you can join us
- 3:32Speaker 2: in the afterlife right now, or you can go back
- 3:38Speaker 2: to the land of the living, but you have to
- 3:41Speaker 2: give up your heart's desire.
- 3:44Speaker 1: And that was the thing. So when when they said
- 3:46Speaker 1: or you can go to the return to the land
- 3:48Speaker 1: of living, Massage question it. She said, at what costs?
- 3:52Speaker 1: And that's when we hear them say your heart's desire.
- 3:58Speaker 1: And so Kate sent me a text and said, do
- 4:04Speaker 1: you think her heart's desire was to see Oh my
- 4:11Speaker 1: gosh Quinlan Vass again? And I said, no, I think
- 4:16Speaker 1: her heart's desire is Quinlan. And I know that to
- 4:23Speaker 1: be true because I like my lip started to like
- 4:31Speaker 1: get that little like ugly cry like going. Four minutes in, guys,
- 4:36Speaker 1: four minutes in, Quinlan drops her into the water and
- 4:45Speaker 1: he says, I will always love you. This is a
- 4:50Speaker 1: legitimate acknowledgment of the story that we literally read right
- 4:58Speaker 1: before Bad Batch season three. Yeah, this, this and and
- 5:02Speaker 1: the fact that we see obi Wan as well. This
- 5:06Speaker 1: is literally the ending of that book. So we know
- 5:13Speaker 1: that in that story Quinlan and Massage. At one point,
- 5:20Speaker 1: we're thinking, hey, screw the galaxy, screw these politics. We
- 5:27Speaker 1: can leave and we we can leave all of this behind.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Yep I I truly believe her heart's desire is Quinlan.
- 5:39Speaker 2: So I raise you. I think her heart's desire was
- 5:45Speaker 2: to reunite with her sisters, but she gave it up
- 5:52Speaker 2: for the love of Quinlan. But as she like, because
- 5:57Speaker 2: we don't know where in the timeline this takes place,
- 6:00Speaker 2: I would presume it's around the time of Obi Wan Kenobi.
- 6:04Speaker 2: I feel like Assage in like this takes place after
- 6:09Speaker 2: Bad Batch. What it's so.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Well because here's here's the thing that I wanted to ask.
- 6:19Speaker 1: The moment where she is attempting to step towards Quinlan
- 6:24Speaker 1: and obi Wan and like she kind of like does
- 6:27Speaker 1: this like jerking movement moment like movement, and then she
- 6:31Speaker 1: comes back to life. Was all of the like magic
- 6:36Speaker 1: hitting the cavern and like thing like you saw like
- 6:42Speaker 1: roots were growing into plants and stuff. Was that showing
- 6:47Speaker 1: the magic or was that showing the like passage of time?
- 6:56Speaker 2: I would say that's probably showing the passage of time.
- 6:59Speaker 2: We know Bad Season three takes place within like nineteen
- 7:05Speaker 2: to eighteen. Bby is like they are everything that we've read. Says, Hey,
- 7:12Speaker 2: this takes place within a year of Revenge of the Sith,
- 7:17Speaker 2: So it's not that much time that happens, because Dark
- 7:21Speaker 2: Disciple takes place before Revenge of the Sith. But I
- 7:26Speaker 2: do think it is sometime and she just has the
- 7:29Speaker 2: memory of Quentland and obi Wan walking away in her head,
- 7:33Speaker 2: which is why you can still see them going forward.
- 7:36Speaker 2: It just takes time for the magic in this case
- 7:39Speaker 2: to work. The reason I think that her heart's desire
- 7:44Speaker 2: was reuniting with her sisters in the afterlife is because
- 7:52Speaker 2: she feels guilty for making that choice, which is why
- 7:55Speaker 2: she won't go back to Quinland, because if she had
- 7:58Speaker 2: to give up Quinlan because like to come back to life,
- 8:07Speaker 2: I don't see there being a point in that process
- 8:13Speaker 2: if she has to give up Quinlan anyways, but she
- 8:16Speaker 2: wants to return for Quinlan.
- 8:21Speaker 3: Hmmm, I I can see it, and I think that
- 8:30Speaker 3: that's I legit think this is the entire point of
- 8:34Speaker 3: not telling us is so that way people can discuss
- 8:37Speaker 3: it for sure.
- 8:39Speaker 2: And I'm thinking I do think these three episodes for
- 8:46Speaker 2: interest means that she is going to play a bigger
- 8:50Speaker 2: part in the Darth Maul series than we think in
- 8:55Speaker 2: that we are going to get some inklings of the
- 8:58Speaker 2: Path or maybe there is a Path show coming that
- 9:02Speaker 2: is going to hopefully reunite the two.
- 9:08Speaker 1: I want it so badly, want to see it.
- 9:12Speaker 2: I like and they bring back so many original actors
- 9:15Speaker 2: for this, and it's like, yeah, but like, why are
- 9:20Speaker 2: you doing this to them if you're going to give
- 9:23Speaker 2: them this heartfelt love story. And I do appreciate that
- 9:27Speaker 2: they acknowledge dark Disciple versus just like changing it around
- 9:35Speaker 2: like they did for the Ahsoka episodes. I do appreciate it.
- 9:43Speaker 2: Other than this first episode in the last couple of minutes,
- 9:48Speaker 2: there's nothing special with this storytelling. It is about survival.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Like both of these arcs for Ventest and cad Paine
- 9:59Speaker 2: are about survival.
- 10:02Speaker 4: All right, y'all, we are going to hit our first
- 10:03Speaker 4: ad break and we will be right back in three
- 10:06Speaker 4: two one. But and like they're telling you how Ventest
- 10:13Speaker 4: gets to where she is, but I also feel like
- 10:17Speaker 4: there's too much of a time jump between resurrection and
- 10:23Speaker 4: her finding Lego.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Yeah, because we see Dark Disciple is in the novelization
- 10:33Speaker 1: timeline that is usually in front of all the books
- 10:36Speaker 1: or at the back. Ye, it's technically before Revenge of
- 10:43Speaker 1: the Seth because we know that because is still alive,
- 10:49Speaker 1: Doku's the one that killed her, so so and we
- 10:55Speaker 1: know I wish there was, so there's in the third episode.
- 11:05Speaker 1: I need you to confirm this because I was not
- 11:08Speaker 1: smart enough to actually go into the freaking credit to
- 11:10Speaker 1: look for myself. Who was that guy in the wheelchair
- 11:18Speaker 1: because I have a feeling I know, so.
- 11:22Speaker 2: It's not said, and let me look. So I'm on
- 11:28Speaker 2: the Wikipedia page. Let's see if Wikipedia has it, because
- 11:33Speaker 2: I thought we were going to get a reveal and
- 11:35Speaker 2: we did not, And there's no summary for this episode.
- 11:41Speaker 2: So for me, I I really thought it was going
- 11:47Speaker 2: to be somebody that we knew, especially seeing all the
- 11:50Speaker 2: metals and stuff. The guy who voices him is the
- 11:55Speaker 2: guy who voices uh Cordova what's her name's master in
- 12:05Speaker 2: Jedi Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor. So it's not somebody
- 12:10Speaker 2: who came back to do voicing.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Oh it's Tony. I'm an I'm in Dola. He is
- 12:21Speaker 1: very famous for the Mask of Zoro. He was in
- 12:26Speaker 1: Stargate su One. He's he's a very well known actor, gotcha.
- 12:36Speaker 1: But I thought he was supposed to be and I
- 12:41Speaker 1: thought they were retconning a lot of stuff. It's uh
- 12:49Speaker 1: ship who was the the Clone Wars announcer narrator.
- 12:59Speaker 2: No, because we're remember he had a stroke and so
- 13:02Speaker 2: he can't do voice acting anymore.
- 13:06Speaker 1: Wait, Tom Caine played uh because he he was an
- 13:11Speaker 1: actual like character in freaking Uh. He was like an admiral.
- 13:23Speaker 1: He was an actual like general or admiral. Lauren, Yes,
- 13:27Speaker 1: you Lauren.
- 13:29Speaker 2: Huh, But I am so remember this guy is supposed
- 13:37Speaker 2: to be on the side of the Separatists. We did
- 13:40Speaker 2: not see a lot of human generals on in the
- 13:45Speaker 2: Clone Wars for the Artists. It was mainly admirals and stuff.
- 13:51Speaker 2: So there's no I didn't see a name in the
- 13:55Speaker 2: credits when I first looked when I first watched these
- 13:59Speaker 2: on Sunday, And I don't have it in firm of
- 14:03Speaker 2: me to go look at it right now, even though
- 14:07Speaker 2: I could pull it up. But from what I've read online,
- 14:12Speaker 2: this guy's knew and we're just supposed to know that
- 14:15Speaker 2: there's history between the two.
- 14:18Speaker 1: Okay, that makes sense? Uh? I When I first looked,
- 14:23Speaker 1: because he looks very uh similar to how similar to Lauren?
- 14:32Speaker 1: But I also knew that Lauren actually uh ended up
- 14:40Speaker 1: having I believe a cameo in both Rogue one and
- 14:52Speaker 1: and Or. Yes we have.
- 14:55Speaker 2: Seen I don't know if we've seen him in Rogue one.
- 14:59Speaker 1: Oh okay, you see him at and Or Okay? Yeah,
- 15:05Speaker 1: And I know that critic recently just in the season
- 15:09Speaker 1: was like name dropping.
- 15:11Speaker 2: It was like Lauren or No, it was padder Gas
- 15:14Speaker 2: was like Lauren and I just went to the Emperor
- 15:17Speaker 2: and had a chat kind of thing.
- 15:18Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, so it definitely Lauren. Yeah. So with this,
- 15:30Speaker 1: I felt that this does push the needle for as
- 15:35Speaker 1: Sage as a story. Yeah, because we now see with
- 15:43Speaker 1: the uh, with the introduction to Leco and now their partnership,
- 15:52Speaker 1: we now see why it makes sense for her to
- 16:00Speaker 1: not only team up with the bad Batch, but to
- 16:05Speaker 1: have such a like familiar connection with Omega like that.
- 16:15Speaker 2: That well bad Batch bad Batch where assuming takes place
- 16:19Speaker 2: before this?
- 16:21Speaker 1: You think, so, yeah, I don't know. I hm, I
- 16:34Speaker 1: think it would make sense that this came before bad Batch.
- 16:39Speaker 2: No, I feel like this takes place after bad Batch
- 16:44Speaker 2: because I feel like bad Batch potentially is the reason
- 16:49Speaker 2: Assage left it like left a busy life behind because
- 16:53Speaker 2: remember she was still a bounty hunter in Bad Batch.
- 16:58Speaker 1: Oh I guess. So, yeah, you're right.
- 17:02Speaker 2: And so there's something in there, which is why I
- 17:04Speaker 2: think we're gonna see usage coming to play with Darth Maul,
- 17:08Speaker 2: shadow Hunter or whatever that one is called shadow Lord.
- 17:13Speaker 2: Oh is because I don't think that that you quite
- 17:17Speaker 2: kicked her out of the game, but I think something
- 17:20Speaker 2: there will like definitively do it. Yeah, which makes sense
- 17:26Speaker 2: where this is more like fifteen babey, because Shadow Lord
- 17:32Speaker 2: takes place a year after Revenge of the Sith.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Yeah, so okay, well, I think it's still in the reverse.
- 17:47Speaker 1: The the point is still made because you look at
- 17:54Speaker 1: how she reacted to Omega, and I think it's just
- 17:59Speaker 1: a small, you know, a piece of her you know,
- 18:03Speaker 1: lifetime in her journey on not being associated with the
- 18:10Speaker 1: Dark Side and the Sith and all of these other things.
- 18:13Speaker 1: So when she finally meets Lego, she's not as rough
- 18:17Speaker 1: around the edges. Even though she is still rough, she's
- 18:22Speaker 1: not as rough around the edges. So I do think that,
- 18:27Speaker 1: like timeline wise makes sense, this isn't like a complete
- 18:34Speaker 1: detour from the character and I think that's what I
- 18:38Speaker 1: feel like a lot of people who unfortunately has never
- 18:42Speaker 1: read these books, Dark Disciple, you know, being the big
- 18:46Speaker 1: one that people are going to watch this and be
- 18:49Speaker 1: like this is totally not her character, why would she
- 18:53Speaker 1: ever do this? Blah blah blah blah blah.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Well, and she was already making the translation in the
- 19:00Speaker 2: end of Clone Wars with her assistance with Ahsoka and everything.
- 19:06Speaker 2: So hopefully there is some sort like I would love
- 19:10Speaker 2: to see put into the credits of that first episode. Hey,
- 19:16Speaker 2: like here's where we got to in the prologue part
- 19:20Speaker 2: of the episode and like showcase Dark Disciple like or
- 19:25Speaker 2: something in there to promo that book so people know, hey,
- 19:29Speaker 2: there is a transition piece here.
- 19:31Speaker 1: I wonder if there's like a special thanks to who
- 19:35Speaker 1: was the author of that again?
- 19:37Speaker 2: Uh, Christy Golden.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Yeah, I will have to go back to episode one
- 19:44Speaker 1: of this and see if there's like a special thanks
- 19:46Speaker 1: or something.
- 19:48Speaker 2: Yeah, because the book was original Clone Wars scripts. It
- 19:51Speaker 2: was supposed to be in season six of the Clone
- 19:54Speaker 2: Wars yeah, and then season seven obviously anyways, so hopefully
- 20:03Speaker 2: there is some sort of like, hey, go read Dark
- 20:05Speaker 2: Disciple here. I think that's important for Star Wars to do,
- 20:11Speaker 2: especially with that, Like, it would also be really cool
- 20:15Speaker 2: to like maybe even do like a special edition like
- 20:18Speaker 2: Tales of the Underworld cover and like republish it in
- 20:21Speaker 2: hard back.
- 20:25Speaker 1: Katie, I don't own the book. That would be amazing.
- 20:30Speaker 4: We're gonna go into our second ad break and we'll
- 20:34Speaker 4: be right back.
- 20:36Speaker 2: Because, let me tell you, the hardcover of that book
- 20:39Speaker 2: was a pain in the ass to find. My biggest
- 20:47Speaker 2: critique with this arc and it is something that I'm
- 20:52Speaker 2: just struggling with in Star Wars. I'm all about found
- 20:58Speaker 2: family and everything, but I feel like this is just
- 21:02Speaker 2: a script that we're just reusing over and over and
- 21:07Speaker 2: over and over. I don't mind a master Padawan relationship,
- 21:12Speaker 2: but I feel like we have to move past the
- 21:14Speaker 2: point of, hey, we a mother or father figure finds
- 21:20Speaker 2: a kid and is forced to adopt the kid and
- 21:24Speaker 2: train the kid, and eventually they like each other. And
- 21:28Speaker 2: I feel like this is just a script that keeps
- 21:31Speaker 2: getting reused. We've seen it in the Mandalorian, We've seen
- 21:34Speaker 2: it as a bad match. Now, we've seen it until
- 21:36Speaker 2: with the Underworld.
- 21:38Speaker 1: I completely understand. I agree with it for the most part.
- 21:50Speaker 2: I do appreciate that it was a mother of this
- 21:52Speaker 2: time instead of a father. I can't appreciate that.
- 21:57Speaker 1: But one thing, and I think that you will very
- 22:00Speaker 1: much note about this. Found family is a very large
- 22:08Speaker 1: and very popular genre in books as well, and I
- 22:12Speaker 1: think that that has been you know, we talk about
- 22:16Speaker 1: it all the time at the end of these episodes,
- 22:18Speaker 1: talking about like all the books that I've been reading
- 22:20Speaker 1: and everything else. But like we have seen the actual
- 22:25Speaker 1: influence of things like books to Graham and book talk
- 22:28Speaker 1: and how they are rejuvenating bookstores and like all of
- 22:32Speaker 1: these different things. It is not without you know, being unnoticed.
- 22:37Speaker 1: So I can very much see Hollywood seeing these stories
- 22:46Speaker 1: coming out from all of these books in the last
- 22:50Speaker 1: ten years and saying, oh, people like this kind of story.
- 22:57Speaker 1: They love it in books. I bet you anything, they'll
- 23:00Speaker 1: of it in TV. And you know, there's always a
- 23:02Speaker 1: delay in different types of media. So of course we'll
- 23:06Speaker 1: see it in books, then we see it in TV shows,
- 23:09Speaker 1: and then we're gonna start seeing into movies. You know,
- 23:10Speaker 1: it slowly makes that progression over time.
- 23:14Speaker 2: I do get it. I do, But especially when Faloni
- 23:20Speaker 2: is the big influence in Star Wars, we have to
- 23:24Speaker 2: pick a different plot. Yeah, Like it's just something's gotta give.
- 23:30Speaker 2: I think even if you had set up Lego as
- 23:35Speaker 2: like somebody she partnered with instead of like finding him
- 23:41Speaker 2: by happenstance, I think I would have totally been good
- 23:43Speaker 2: with that. But it's just like, oh, we found this kid.
- 23:48Speaker 2: Oh now I'm forced to help this kid. It isn't reused.
- 23:54Speaker 1: I think more than anything this argument puts, there's there's
- 24:02Speaker 1: more fire to the flame of this argument because of
- 24:07Speaker 1: the mass popularity of The Mandalorian. I think more so
- 24:13Speaker 1: than anything that that show, it's it and it's not
- 24:22Speaker 1: even I wouldn't even say, is the Mandalorian really the
- 24:26Speaker 1: first Star Wars project that had this trope? Like in
- 24:32Speaker 1: a sense like maybe, but like maybe, but like again,
- 24:41Speaker 1: you you you have literally Anakin Skywalker. It's is like
- 24:46Speaker 1: with with freaking Qua Gonngin finding him, you have ah
- 24:53Speaker 1: in a small sense, Luke Skywalker is the same kind
- 24:57Speaker 1: of thing with movie Want Yeah, but you also have
- 25:02Speaker 1: found family in Han Solo and Showey. Of course you
- 25:05Speaker 1: actually have actual family with Lea there, but still, uh,
- 25:10Speaker 1: found family is not a distant thing as far as
- 25:18Speaker 1: now you know, watching the show in twenty twenty five.
- 25:22Speaker 1: It's always been a thing. But now that I even
- 25:26Speaker 1: pointed out that's even a worst case for this argument,
- 25:29Speaker 1: because like, hey, you've been doing this for fifty years now,
- 25:32Speaker 1: so you know, maybe we need to switch it up
- 25:35Speaker 1: a little bit.
- 25:36Speaker 2: So yeah, I agree, just just something to point it out.
- 25:44Speaker 2: I do have to say, I think I can't remember
- 25:48Speaker 2: if it was just Kevin Kiner or if it was
- 25:50Speaker 2: the Kiner Bros.
- 25:53Speaker 1: I believe it was it was the Kiners.
- 25:56Speaker 2: Yeah, uh, okay, so they didn't double job with music
- 26:01Speaker 2: for Tales of the Underworld. It was probably my favorite
- 26:07Speaker 2: part of the show was just hearing the different beats
- 26:13Speaker 2: and the western type music that's in the cad Bane
- 26:17Speaker 2: stuff or the cat Bane arc and just like it
- 26:21Speaker 2: feels like growth growth music is so weird to say,
- 26:25Speaker 2: but like growth music for a a Soca's arc. Assages Arc. Yeah.
- 26:32Speaker 1: Yeah, it was Kevin, Sean and Deanna so it was a.
- 26:37Speaker 2: Yeah. So that did an incredible job. Super impressed. I
- 26:43Speaker 2: can't wait for this UH soundtrack to be out to
- 26:46Speaker 2: add it to my UH playlist for work.
- 26:53Speaker 1: But we talked a lot about Assages Arc. Uh. Let's
- 26:59Speaker 1: move forward with cad Bane and I'm gonna go ahead
- 27:04Speaker 1: and and I'm gonna rip the band aid off, and
- 27:06Speaker 1: I'm gonna say the hot take. Now, this is exactly
- 27:09Speaker 1: what I told Katie right before I pressed record. Guys,
- 27:15Speaker 1: this three episodes of cad Bane fifteen minutes each, not
- 27:21Speaker 1: counting the credits. It's probably closer to like ten minutes each,
- 27:29Speaker 1: maybe twelve.
- 27:30Speaker 2: Felt maybe, And these episodes felt like they were thirty
- 27:36Speaker 2: minutes apiece in not a good way. Like, Yeah, I
- 27:41Speaker 2: looked at the time on at least two of the
- 27:44Speaker 2: episodes and was like, how much longer is in this episode? Like, jeez,
- 27:52Speaker 2: there is Chris, what did well? Chris didn't say we
- 27:55Speaker 2: had to put this out, but I had to shout
- 27:57Speaker 2: out our Indiana Jones expert. There is an Deanna Jones
- 28:00Speaker 2: plotline in this basically, which is the story of how
- 28:03Speaker 2: cad Bane gets his fedora. Oh so uh they did
- 28:10Speaker 2: use plotlines for that, and it feels very Western. That's
- 28:15Speaker 2: about all I have good to say. And I guest,
- 28:18Speaker 2: this is supposed to details of the underworld, but this,
- 28:26Speaker 2: h this doesn't feel like it adds anything else to
- 28:31Speaker 2: cad Bane's story.
- 28:33Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the biggest hot take of this entire thing
- 28:37Speaker 1: is that this did. This literally did not move the
- 28:40Speaker 1: needle for cad Bane, the character you may have, Like
- 28:46Speaker 1: the most you learned about cad Bane is where he
- 28:52Speaker 1: got his hat. That is literally it. This is the
- 28:55Speaker 1: origin of cad Baane's hat because.
- 28:58Speaker 2: Like he goes by Kolby in the first episode, and
- 29:01Speaker 2: you couldn't have told me that then man went by
- 29:05Speaker 2: Colby Initially, what good just telling me that he adapted
- 29:09Speaker 2: a new name to And I know it does like
- 29:11Speaker 2: good for some stories, but that was like the most
- 29:14Speaker 2: frustrating part of this is like the Duros have very
- 29:19Speaker 2: average names and basically cad picked a new one because
- 29:24Speaker 2: he wanted to sound cool.
- 29:27Speaker 1: Well, and like, the thing is I was I was
- 29:31Speaker 1: looking into and not outside of the actual show. But
- 29:36Speaker 1: while I was watching these three episodes, I wanted to
- 29:40Speaker 1: see if there was like a hard racial line that
- 29:46Speaker 1: they were writing with. Uh, what's the the the race
- 29:52Speaker 1: that Cadby named the Duros. I thought that there would
- 29:58Speaker 1: be one, and there is and there isn't. With these
- 30:07Speaker 1: two characters, cad and Nero, I thought that you know,
- 30:16Speaker 1: they they again found family because they they do act
- 30:20Speaker 1: like brothers. In the very beginning you learn in the
- 30:26Speaker 1: very first episode that they're just two homeless kids, that
- 30:30Speaker 1: they just you know, they're street rats, as even one
- 30:33Speaker 1: person even calls them. And of course they just you know,
- 30:39Speaker 1: happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time,
- 30:42Speaker 1: and this dude just recruits them to be a distraction
- 30:46Speaker 1: that turns into something a lot more. And on this
- 30:50Speaker 1: road of crime, cad Bane goes while Nero gets caught
- 30:56Speaker 1: by the Popo and then next thing we know, he
- 31:00Speaker 1: is the pop Po. So like, it's this weird story
- 31:07Speaker 1: of like and I I will if anybody would like
- 31:11Speaker 1: to read a review for this, I would highly recommend
- 31:15Speaker 1: going to read Adrian's review. There is of course others
- 31:19Speaker 1: out there. We want to go ahead and throw out Adrian.
- 31:23Speaker 1: He has been a great friend to this podcast. Uh, Katie,
- 31:27Speaker 1: you also said that there was another review and.
- 31:30Speaker 4: We're about to jump into our third ad y'all. We
- 31:34Speaker 4: promised we'll be right back, we promised. As the al
- 31:38Speaker 4: latest guys.
- 31:40Speaker 2: Ryan's reviews are really good on my no Commander.
- 31:44Speaker 3: Uh.
- 31:45Speaker 2: He did separate reviews for both a Sage and kad
- 31:48Speaker 2: Bain's arcs, so if you wanted to read him separately,
- 31:51Speaker 2: you totally could you see. Uh yeah, Bryan's kind of
- 32:00Speaker 2: like his summary points where like Nero's choices deserve exploration
- 32:04Speaker 2: seeing the city develop, especially with the density and quality
- 32:07Speaker 2: of the animation, which, yes, the quality of the animation
- 32:11Speaker 2: just shows how LUCASLM has really upped its game with
- 32:15Speaker 2: animation of why more animated stories deserve to be told.
- 32:18Speaker 2: But he also said felt like it took away from
- 32:21Speaker 2: Bain's mystique rather than add to his story, and I
- 32:25Speaker 2: one hundred percent agree with that. That's the words I've
- 32:27Speaker 2: been trying to figure out is sometimes you don't need
- 32:30Speaker 2: an explanation for how this guy comes to be, and
- 32:33Speaker 2: this doesn't feel like a story of survival. It feels
- 32:36Speaker 2: like a story of survival for Nero.
- 32:39Speaker 1: Not caving.
- 32:41Speaker 2: Yeah, because the cad Bane or Colby is you want
- 32:46Speaker 2: to call him, that is in episode one doesn't feel
- 32:50Speaker 2: like who's in episode three, Like, it doesn't seem like
- 32:54Speaker 2: those should correlate at all whatsoever. The other thing Ryan
- 33:02Speaker 2: said about the cad Bade would he said, though it
- 33:05Speaker 2: comes with potentially unintentional connotations. So again Ryan's reviews, I
- 33:11Speaker 2: agreed a lot with Slash Films reviews. That's the ones
- 33:15Speaker 2: that I underworld but like a slash film is owned
- 33:21Speaker 2: by a big giant conglomerate, and we like to support
- 33:24Speaker 2: our local not local but like small business friends.
- 33:28Speaker 1: Small business, uh and uh independent you know, writers as well, journalists,
- 33:36Speaker 1: reviewers whatever you would like to title them as. But
- 33:41Speaker 1: I wanted to give a good number of reviews that
- 33:45Speaker 1: other people can read because our opinions are not set
- 33:51Speaker 1: in stone, for hey, is this a good or bad show?
- 33:55Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 33:56Speaker 1: And these people that we just mentioned they may have
- 33:59Speaker 1: opinions that are the same and or different than ours
- 34:02Speaker 1: as well, So you know, it's always good to read
- 34:05Speaker 1: up on many different perspectives. How did you feel? And
- 34:11Speaker 1: I'm gonna go ahead and do the big spoiler because
- 34:15Speaker 1: the writing was on the wall even though they didn't
- 34:18Speaker 1: say it.
- 34:19Speaker 2: Yes, because how does green duros plus green duros equal
- 34:24Speaker 2: blue DeRos exactly?
- 34:27Speaker 1: So, how do you feel about cad Bane having a child?
- 34:37Speaker 2: I really saw it coming when uh, I think it
- 34:42Speaker 2: was Aaron was her name? Was, like, yeah, I had
- 34:46Speaker 2: to permit you from dying, Like okay, so you want
- 34:52Speaker 2: dad to stick around the kind of thing, but also
- 34:55Speaker 2: be in jail and not tell him like what? Uh?
- 35:01Speaker 1: And I love.
- 35:02Speaker 2: I love Nero, Like I do really feel like I
- 35:05Speaker 2: want to know more about Nero because I think he
- 35:09Speaker 2: was cool. I felt like he was the one that
- 35:14Speaker 2: was going to turn into cad Vane even though he
- 35:16Speaker 2: was green. But it's just like, like, it just feels
- 35:23Speaker 2: very classic cliche Western type feel, which again is something
- 35:30Speaker 2: different from Folony's typical point of view. I just feel
- 35:35Speaker 2: like these two arcs were not as artistic as Tales
- 35:41Speaker 2: of the Jedi and Tales of the Empire was.
- 35:44Speaker 1: Yeah, these were pretty straightforward compared to what we got
- 35:49Speaker 1: to see in Tales of the Empire and Tales of
- 35:53Speaker 1: the Jedi. Like you look at Tales of the Empire,
- 35:56Speaker 1: we have a pretty straightforward story there as well, but
- 36:00Speaker 1: it ends in such a way that's like, oh, there's
- 36:06Speaker 1: like a aha moment for all of the characters who
- 36:09Speaker 1: really love these two characters that are shown, but also
- 36:14Speaker 1: a little bit of mystery because there's not really a
- 36:19Speaker 1: like quote unquote happy ending. It leaves you on a
- 36:23Speaker 1: little bit of a cliffhanger for Tales of the Empire.
- 36:27Speaker 1: When you look at Tales of the Jedi, you go
- 36:30Speaker 1: through Ahsoka story like, yeah, but there's these high points
- 36:34Speaker 1: there's these low points and then you're left wondering. Okay,
- 36:39Speaker 1: like we know where she's heading, but like there's still
- 36:43Speaker 1: there's still a little bit of coded mystery there. Yeah,
- 36:46Speaker 1: there's still a little bit of a gap.
- 36:49Speaker 2: I think the like where Tales of the Jedi did
- 36:54Speaker 2: well is we knew where the characters were going, but
- 36:58Speaker 2: the episode kind of told a high point of their
- 37:02Speaker 2: character arc, but at different points.
- 37:06Speaker 1: Yes, Hills of.
- 37:07Speaker 2: The Empire kind of does the same thing with at
- 37:09Speaker 2: least Barriss Morgan Elsbeth's story I've kind of forgotten, but
- 37:15Speaker 2: I felt like, based on my limited memory, I felt
- 37:19Speaker 2: like hers was still pretty artistic and told different It
- 37:23Speaker 2: did it skipped time points in her story to kind
- 37:28Speaker 2: of tell one great arc, whereas a Sager's story is
- 37:33Speaker 2: told very close together and it's kind of the same
- 37:37Speaker 2: timeline area. Cad Baines is told over time skipps. But
- 37:43Speaker 2: it doesn't it says this is how our character was born,
- 37:48Speaker 2: this isn't this isn't why he does something, or a
- 37:54Speaker 2: big character piece that has been looking to be explained
- 37:58Speaker 2: for people.
- 38:00Speaker 1: Well, and that's the really big thing. Well, and like
- 38:05Speaker 1: here's here's the difference between the two stories point Blake, Okay, guys,
- 38:09Speaker 1: you have assage Ventest. Hey, I'm going to protect this
- 38:14Speaker 1: child so we can move forward with the Path, which
- 38:18Speaker 1: is still this thing that we kind of know about
- 38:21Speaker 1: but we haven't had fully fleshed out, right, Whereas cad
- 38:25Speaker 1: Bane is, Hey, I don't like that this dude killed
- 38:32Speaker 1: my like found family, so here's a revenge story of that.
- 38:38Speaker 1: Like it's there. There is no like we know that
- 38:42Speaker 1: after episode six of the Tales of the Underworld, we've
- 38:50Speaker 1: seen every single point of cad Bane now and so
- 38:55Speaker 1: it's like, there is nothing here that is like, oh,
- 39:02Speaker 1: I can't wait to see the next story of cad Bane, right,
- 39:07Speaker 1: Whereas yeah, with venturess story, there's still an inkling of like, oh,
- 39:12Speaker 1: there's still some stuff there. We could still learn a
- 39:15Speaker 1: whole lot.
- 39:16Speaker 2: And I feel like it's the same way with Morgan's
- 39:19Speaker 2: almost as well, is that there's stuff in there with
- 39:22Speaker 2: like the Night Sisters that could be really interesting and
- 39:25Speaker 2: it kind of leads into massages and everything. There's offies.
- 39:32Speaker 2: We were all like, Okay, what happens next? Is she dead?
- 39:35Speaker 2: Is she alive? Are we gonna sing her in a
- 39:37Speaker 2: sooka season too?
- 39:39Speaker 1: Yeah? There were so many rumors of that exactly. Yeah, and.
- 39:45Speaker 2: It's just And I'm not like I have lived the
- 39:49Speaker 2: story of regret when I say, okay, if a character
- 39:51Speaker 2: is dead, there's no need to add anything more to
- 39:54Speaker 2: their story. I lived that with Black Widow. I enjoyed
- 39:57Speaker 2: Black Widow, but I feel like there was nothing beneficial here.
- 40:03Speaker 2: I didn't need to know how cad Bane got his
- 40:06Speaker 2: start as a bounty hunter. I didn't need to know
- 40:08Speaker 2: that he thrives on revenge. Now, the only thing I
- 40:13Speaker 2: want to know is what happened to Isaac Bain.
- 40:16Speaker 4: And this should be our final ad break. So y'all,
- 40:20Speaker 4: thanks for bearing with us. We appreciate y'all. We'll be
- 40:23Speaker 4: right back.
- 40:24Speaker 1: I don't know, I think that we've we've really talked
- 40:27Speaker 1: enough about this. I don't think we could really beat
- 40:29Speaker 1: this dead horse any longer. All in all, to say this,
- 40:38Speaker 1: the points that we have made that I think simplify
- 40:41Speaker 1: this very well. Lucasfilm Animation, they still got it. They
- 40:47Speaker 1: need to push more out. I saw a video the
- 40:51Speaker 1: other day that said we need this style of show
- 40:58Speaker 1: in the sequel series era one hundred. Agree. Yep, So Animation,
- 41:07Speaker 1: they still got it. And two we need the path,
- 41:14Speaker 1: we need the path, we need it, whether that be
- 41:17Speaker 1: an animation or in live action. If you could give
- 41:22Speaker 1: me an assas of Ventuss TV show live action, I
- 41:26Speaker 1: would be forever grateful. Lucasfilm just saying yeah, I think
- 41:34Speaker 1: those those two points are are really the big point.
- 41:38Speaker 1: And number three yes, yes, and the Kiers did an
- 41:43Speaker 1: amazing job with this series. But that being said, I
- 41:50Speaker 1: thank you guys so much. You guys can catch us
- 41:54Speaker 1: on Saturday Night Live talking about episodes seven, eight, and

- 42:47Speaker 1: it as if Star Wars had a Hunger Games. I
- 42:56Speaker 1: wouldn't necessarily say that, but like, by chapter six, I
- 43:03Speaker 1: almost cried twice. So it's like woww. Yeah, it's pretty intense. Uh,
- 43:11Speaker 1: but I like it so far. I'm already on like
- 43:13Speaker 1: I think chapter like twelve or thirteen. It's it's it's
- 43:19Speaker 1: already a fun ride, and I cannot wait to finish
- 43:23Speaker 1: this book. So if you would like and it's it's
- 43:28Speaker 1: like six books already, I think, like I, I only
- 43:32Speaker 1: ever saw the first trilogy of it, and I was like, oh,
- 43:35Speaker 1: three books, that's totally fine. And then I saw somebody else,
- 43:38Speaker 1: like just last week, was like, oh, yeah, you know
- 43:42Speaker 1: these three books, there's two more, and I'm like, god,
- 43:45Speaker 1: damn it, like it's getting it's getting larger. I can't
- 43:48Speaker 1: do this anymore. But but yeah, if you would guys
