- 0:00Speaker 1: Now the Mark Simone Show on seven tenor filling in
- 0:05Speaker 1: for Mark, here's Ken Rosato.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Well, finally, the end of the week is here. Mark
- 0:12Speaker 2: is off on a long holiday weekend. Former New York
- 0:15Speaker 2: City TV news anchor Ken Rosanna reporting for duty. Are
- 0:18Speaker 2: y'all set for a Memorial Day? And by the way,
- 0:21Speaker 2: quick lesson on Memorial Day. It was nice to hear
- 0:24Speaker 2: folks talking about it with Larry Menty now a few
- 0:27Speaker 2: minutes ago. Memorial Day has the word memory in it, Okay,
- 0:32Speaker 2: So it is not Veterans Day, although we could still
- 0:34Speaker 2: say thank you to a veteran. Of course, you could
- 0:36Speaker 2: say thank you to a veteran every day. But Memorial
- 0:39Speaker 2: Day is the time that we remember the people who
- 0:42Speaker 2: died fighting to protect our country. So I'm glad we
- 0:46Speaker 2: had callers a few minutes ago saying you shouldn't say
- 0:49Speaker 2: happy Memorial Day. Yeah. For young people who want to
- 0:53Speaker 2: enjoy the beach or whatever, and the fact that you
- 0:55Speaker 2: might be getting together with family, that's good, that's happy.
- 0:58Speaker 2: But it's not a day that's about happy. It's a
- 1:02Speaker 2: day that it's about memorializing. We're supposed to remember those
- 1:06Speaker 2: give a moment, just a moment, of your day to
- 1:09Speaker 2: think about those people who made the ultimate sacrifice and
- 1:13Speaker 2: how significant that is, how many of us would be
- 1:16Speaker 2: willing to step up and say, you know what, take
- 1:19Speaker 2: my life so that those one hundred thousand people over
- 1:21Speaker 2: there can live. That's a tough one, right, but people
- 1:24Speaker 2: did that by the hundreds of thousands through our history.
- 1:27Speaker 2: So all we ask, right as Americans, fellow Americans, no
- 1:31Speaker 2: matter what your politics, no matter what your religion, no
- 1:33Speaker 2: matter what your heritage, originally you're an American, just take
- 1:37Speaker 2: a moment this Monday and over the weekend and technically
- 1:40Speaker 2: every day we should, but this one day specifically, and
- 1:43Speaker 2: just remember the good folks who sacrificed ultimately their lives,
- 1:48Speaker 2: the families left behind who lost their loved when their father,
- 1:51Speaker 2: their brother, their sister, their mother, so that our America
- 1:55Speaker 2: could be free. And again, like I said, always think
- 1:58Speaker 2: of that the living vet is the person who survives
- 2:02Speaker 2: in place of that person who passed, whom we remember
- 2:05Speaker 2: Memorial Day four. But I just think that it's so
- 2:08Speaker 2: important that we take that time, and that's why I'm
- 2:10Speaker 2: glad we have at least one day. We should have
- 2:12Speaker 2: many more, but that one day to remember those good folks,
- 2:16Speaker 2: who made the ultimate sacrifice for us. We got so
- 2:19Speaker 2: much to talk about today. To wrap up the busy
- 2:21Speaker 2: news week. The phone lines are open. We would love
- 2:24Speaker 2: for you to give us a call and take part
- 2:25Speaker 2: in the conversation. The numbers eight hundred three two one
- 2:28Speaker 2: zero seven ten, eight hundred three to two one zero
- 2:32Speaker 2: seven ten. Again it's Ken Rosatto and from Mark Simone today.
- 2:35Speaker 2: By the way, the great Jim Kerr yesterday, Good lord?
- 2:39Speaker 2: Is that man. I always used to say when I
- 2:42Speaker 2: grow up, I want to sound like Jim Kerr or
- 2:44Speaker 2: like the great Mark Simone, two of the greatest voices
- 2:46Speaker 2: in the business. And to hear that booming voice come
- 2:51Speaker 2: through the very microphone I'm sitting in front of right now,
- 2:53Speaker 2: I feel like saying I'm not worthy. I'm not worthy.
- 2:57Speaker 2: And one of the people that Jim Kerr said especially
- 3:00Speaker 2: hello to is the man sitting opposite me right now.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Is he who handles the board and the technicals on
- 3:07Speaker 2: the show. We just want to say yes, special, thank you,
- 3:10Speaker 2: and good morning to is he. It's good to be
- 3:12Speaker 2: with you today, is and good to be with you, folks.
- 3:15Speaker 2: The best audience for any talk show in America right
- 3:18Speaker 2: here at seven ten wr Well, I don't know if
- 3:21Speaker 2: you heard this morning the news. US Secretary of State
- 3:23Speaker 2: Marco Rubio says there's been a little bit of progress
- 3:27Speaker 2: in talks with Iran to end the war, adding that
- 3:30Speaker 2: he did not wish to exaggerate how much progress. But
- 3:34Speaker 2: apparently this is the few days where it's going to
- 3:38Speaker 2: be do or die, so to say, for Iran. I
- 3:40Speaker 2: know we've heard that before, but apparently there's a lot
- 3:43Speaker 2: of internal data that says that, yeah, this really is
- 3:45Speaker 2: it right now. So Iran either has to get it
- 3:48Speaker 2: together or there's going to be some action in the
- 3:51Speaker 2: next few days. So we'll keep our eyes on that,
- 3:53Speaker 2: and of course we'll keep your breast and see what
- 3:54Speaker 2: happens with that. Other news. Check this out. This is
- 3:58Speaker 2: from the scratch your head and say what on earth?
- 4:02Speaker 2: A Maryland teenager is facing child neglect charges for allegedly
- 4:07Speaker 2: leaving her six month old baby home alone so she
- 4:12Speaker 2: could go out and party with her friends at McDonald's. Okay,
- 4:16Speaker 2: now it gets worse. The report says, nineteen year old
- 4:20Speaker 2: Kira Faust is a daycare worker. Uh huh, so she
- 4:25Speaker 2: watches your kids by day. She left her own six
- 4:28Speaker 2: month old baby home alone so she could go out
- 4:32Speaker 2: and hang out with her friends at McDonald's. So it's
- 4:36Speaker 2: not that she doesn't know how to take care of kids,
- 4:37Speaker 2: apparently because she takes care of other people's kids for money,
- 4:41Speaker 2: I guess, but when it comes to taking care of
- 4:42Speaker 2: her own child, that doesn't matter. Yeah, yes, she will
- 4:46Speaker 2: be charged. There was this think old Daria Albinger, the
- 4:50Speaker 2: wonderful By the way, I have been admiring the wonderful
- 4:53Speaker 2: Daria Albinger's fantastic news voice from Afar for years and
- 4:58Speaker 2: even though our pat's kind across we never got to
- 5:01Speaker 2: meet each other face to face. Today we finally did.
- 5:04Speaker 2: So it's great to hear on the grade seven to
- 5:06Speaker 2: ten WR doing the news here. She is fantastic. But
- 5:10Speaker 2: she just talked about this sinkhole that is on the
- 5:12Speaker 2: runway at LaGuardia Airport. Now, LaGuardia has a tough airport
- 5:15Speaker 2: to deal with because it's so small. There's no place
- 5:18Speaker 2: to stack up planes, so planes come in land, pick
- 5:20Speaker 2: up more passengers leave. You can't park anywhere, so when
- 5:24Speaker 2: there is a hole a pothole, it's not a pothole,
- 5:26Speaker 2: it's a sinkhole on the runway, there's nowhere to keep planes.
- 5:30Speaker 2: So when you only have one runway to work with
- 5:33Speaker 2: and you can't just, oh, so land on the other runway,
- 5:35Speaker 2: well they can't just do that. If the winds are
- 5:38Speaker 2: coming from a different direction, you have to use a
- 5:39Speaker 2: different airport. So that is a problem. And now the
- 5:43Speaker 2: word is it might be tomorrow at the earliest before
- 5:46Speaker 2: they'll get that sinkhole repaired. So if you were going
- 5:49Speaker 2: to fly out of LaGuardia or pick somebody up at LaGuardia,
- 5:52Speaker 2: a double check with the carrier to make sure that
- 5:53Speaker 2: the plane is still on time. There was an out
- 5:57Speaker 2: of control caught on camera brawl that broke out between
- 6:01Speaker 2: families over seating at a Catholic school's kindergarten graduation in
- 6:08Speaker 2: Ohio yesterday. Now, I used to be a priest, so
- 6:12Speaker 2: I want to put that out there so people don't
- 6:14Speaker 2: think I've tried to soften this or whatever. But so
- 6:18Speaker 2: what had happened was this was a kindergarten graduation, which,
- 6:21Speaker 2: by the way, when did we start having kidd I
- 6:23Speaker 2: know it sounds cute, the parents say, come on, we
- 6:26Speaker 2: have like, oh, second grade graduation. It kind of takes
- 6:30Speaker 2: away from what you know, eighth grade or high school
- 6:32Speaker 2: or college, but whatever you want, the parents to get
- 6:35Speaker 2: together and take the pictures, I get it. So a
- 6:37Speaker 2: bunch of parents got together for this graduation of a
- 6:40Speaker 2: kindergarten and a Catholic school. Underlying that, and apparently this
- 6:45Speaker 2: one parent decided to take her extended family to this graduation.
- 6:52Speaker 2: And when they showed up at the Queen of Apostles
- 6:54Speaker 2: School in Toledo, Ohio, yesterday morning, they brought literally twenty
- 6:59Speaker 2: members of the family and they took up all the
- 7:00Speaker 2: front row seats. So, of course, everybody wants a picture
- 7:03Speaker 2: of their kid, their little kid. That's why they're having this.
- 7:05Speaker 2: You're supposed to come in with maybe two three people,
- 7:07Speaker 2: not like thirty people for your kindergartener's graduation. Well, twenty
- 7:12Speaker 2: eight year old Jessica Anderson allegedly started cursing out parents
- 7:17Speaker 2: who tried to take back some of those front seats
- 7:20Speaker 2: that she was accused of hogging up. Oh that's another thing.
- 7:23Speaker 2: She put bags and whatnot on the seats to prevent
- 7:26Speaker 2: people from taking them until like Uncle Gino and Aunt
- 7:29Speaker 2: Francis could show up from Oshkosh, Wisconsin, who were driving
- 7:33Speaker 2: four hours for a kindergarten graduation. For God's sake, sorry
- 7:38Speaker 2: to scream. Didn't mean to scare you, but it is
- 7:41Speaker 2: mind boggling. So what ends up happening a brawl? This
- 7:45Speaker 2: is a Catholic school, this is a kindergarten graduation, and
- 7:50Speaker 2: these parents acted like animals and literally started slugging each other.
- 7:55Speaker 2: And yeah, there were a bunch of arrest made. Just unbelievable. Folks,
- 7:58Speaker 2: grow up. Not a great example for your kindergarteners to see.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Seven ten wr the Voice of New York. We'd love
- 8:06Speaker 2: to hear what you have to say. Comment on any
- 8:08Speaker 2: of this, Tell me about your Memorial Day plans, and
- 8:11Speaker 2: more importantly, tell me about your plans to remember those
- 8:13Speaker 2: who fought and died for a country. Eight hundred three
- 8:16Speaker 2: two one zero seven ten. Eight hundred three two one
- 8:21Speaker 2: zero seven ten. How many of you have friends who
- 8:23Speaker 2: say that you know President Trump his time is up,
- 8:26Speaker 2: that he no longer has the influence he once had.
- 8:29Speaker 2: M sure we know those people, right, Maybe it's time
- 8:33Speaker 2: you get new friends. I'm kidding. But in a single night,
- 8:37Speaker 2: think about the significance of this president. Trump accomplished something
- 8:41Speaker 2: in one night that no other president in the forty
- 8:45Speaker 2: seven presidents we've had other than him, He's number forty seven.
- 8:48Speaker 2: No other president in history has accomplished. He literally went
- 8:53Speaker 2: thirty seven for thirty seven. In terms of winning endorsements,
- 8:58Speaker 2: Trump endorsed thirty seven individuals in Republican primaries nationwide, in
- 9:03Speaker 2: some cases against very popular incumbent Republican Rhinos who had
- 9:07Speaker 2: a track record of winning term after term. And in
- 9:11Speaker 2: every single case, the individual whom President Trump endorsed beat
- 9:16Speaker 2: their primary competitors. Now, that has never been done in history,
- 9:21Speaker 2: certainly not to that extent. In fact, CNN data analyst
- 9:25Speaker 2: Harry Enton broke it down to the horror of the
- 9:28Speaker 2: commies standing around him on set at.
- 9:30Speaker 3: CNN when in fact, you go against President Trump, you
- 9:33Speaker 3: go on the grinder and you could just see this
- 9:34Speaker 3: times Trump endorsees.
- 9:36Speaker 4: Have won in GOP primaries.
- 9:37Speaker 3: It's about ninety five percent each of the last four cycles. Now,
- 9:41Speaker 3: I will know, you know, sometimes he endorsed this and
- 9:43Speaker 3: there's no real challenger. But even in those cases, the
- 9:46Speaker 3: challengers to the combent have won a majority of the
- 9:49Speaker 3: time as well. And one of the key reasons why
- 9:52Speaker 3: that is right is you look at Trump's approval rating
- 9:55Speaker 3: within the Gopach twenty first century own party approval At
- 9:58Speaker 3: this point in term two, he's eighty three percent. That's
- 10:01Speaker 3: more popular than Obama was with Democrats, way more popular
- 10:04Speaker 3: than George W. Bush was with Republicans back in two
- 10:07Speaker 3: thousand and six. So the power of a Trump endorsement
- 10:09Speaker 3: is still sky high.
- 10:11Speaker 2: So when people say, oh, Obama was the most popular president,
- 10:15Speaker 2: he had the most support, No, No, I mean he was. Look,
- 10:18Speaker 2: whether you like Obama or hate, I mean he was
- 10:20Speaker 2: great in a number of ways. He was a fabulous orator,
- 10:23Speaker 2: very persuasive. He brought a lot of independence over to
- 10:27Speaker 2: his side who never thought that they would vote to
- 10:31Speaker 2: the left. So he was a very powerful man. Yet
- 10:34Speaker 2: President Trump has more power right now, especially among Republicans,
- 10:40Speaker 2: not quote unquote magat Street, Missy, Republicans, the party overall,
- 10:44Speaker 2: it's about eighty seven percent support. That is higher than
- 10:47Speaker 2: Obama had among Democrats, higher than George H. I'm sorry,
- 10:51Speaker 2: George W. Bush had among Republicans in his time, I believe,
- 10:55Speaker 2: even higher than Reagan had at this point. It's significant.
- 10:59Speaker 2: The only way Trump could pull off thirty seven out
- 11:02Speaker 2: of thirty seven successful endorsements is with popularity and influence. Now,
- 11:06Speaker 2: one guy, think about that single handedly dismantled a political
- 11:10Speaker 2: machine built one hundred and sixty five years ago and
- 11:13Speaker 2: rebuilt it from scratch. It is now the Party of
- 11:17Speaker 2: Trump and the old trimudgeonly machined Rhino Republicans are so
- 11:22Speaker 2: angry and so bitter as they watched the party in
- 11:25Speaker 2: which they subsisted for years blown to bits. You see,
- 11:30Speaker 2: the Rhino Republicans, they were happy being the crappy number
- 11:34Speaker 2: two party behind the Democrats because they just wanted to
- 11:37Speaker 2: live and let live. They were okay being the second
- 11:40Speaker 2: best party as long as they got invited to all
- 11:42Speaker 2: the fancy schmancy Washington dinners and they kept their fat
- 11:45Speaker 2: jobs and got their palms greased by powerful DC lobbyists
- 11:49Speaker 2: in exchange for votes. And yes, it happens. They just
- 11:51Speaker 2: wanted to be left alone to live their fat and
- 11:54Speaker 2: sassy life, keep their seat election after election, having a
- 11:58Speaker 2: career until they died. Like Mitch McConnell, for example. I mean,
- 12:01Speaker 2: the man doesn't even know what day it is. And
- 12:05Speaker 2: for all the people who were complaining that President Biden
- 12:08Speaker 2: needed to leave office because he didn't know where he was,
- 12:11Speaker 2: I say those same people need to be saying the
- 12:13Speaker 2: same thing about Mitch McConnell, who, if you've seen him lately,
- 12:16Speaker 2: he has no idea that he is breathing air yet.
- 12:19Speaker 2: I think he's waiting for somebody to tell him he's
- 12:21Speaker 2: moved on. And I don't just mean in office. I
- 12:24Speaker 2: wish the best for him, Don't get me wrong. I
- 12:26Speaker 2: don't wish any ill will. God bless him. He's served
- 12:29Speaker 2: a lot of years, but it's time to go on.
- 12:31Speaker 4: Now.
- 12:32Speaker 2: This is his last year, but I don't see him
- 12:34Speaker 2: still serving this term. How he's effective at this point
- 12:37Speaker 2: as a senator. Now, the days of the old Rhino Republicans,
- 12:41Speaker 2: those days are over. Probably the Canaries and the coal
- 12:44Speaker 2: Mine were the incumbent Rhino Thomas Massey and Kentucky who
- 12:48Speaker 2: lost in the fourth Congressional district to a relatively unknown
- 12:53Speaker 2: ed Gull Ryan, a former Navy seal who had no
- 12:55Speaker 2: name recognition before President Trump said I endorse him. And
- 13:01Speaker 2: when President Trump endorsed Gaul Ryan, every know it all
- 13:05Speaker 2: political analyst said, he's nuts. Why is he doing that?
- 13:08Speaker 2: Gall Ryan doesn't stand a chance. Nobody knew who he was.
- 13:12Speaker 2: In fact, in early polls, people said Massey ninety nine
- 13:15Speaker 2: point two percent said that they would support Massey in
- 13:19Speaker 2: the primary, ninety nine point two. And guess who won
- 13:23Speaker 2: the primary, gall Ryan by ten points, the guy endorsed
- 13:28Speaker 2: by President Trump. Unheard of. That's not a political powerhouse.
- 13:34Speaker 2: That's a political gargantuan that has probably never existed in
- 13:39Speaker 2: our history of this country before. Eight hundred three to
- 13:42Speaker 2: two one zero seven ten, eight hundred three two one
- 13:46Speaker 2: zero seven ten. We want to hear from you, so
- 13:48Speaker 2: give us call, let you know what you let us
- 13:50Speaker 2: know what you think. And then there is George's anti Trump,
- 13:53Speaker 2: Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensberger, who was the darling
- 13:57Speaker 2: of the left. He was the guy who defended the
- 13:59Speaker 2: election mess in Fulton County, Georgia, and he promised voters
- 14:02Speaker 2: that he would continue his anti Trump's stance if elected governor.
- 14:06Speaker 2: He's running for governor now, well, guess what Trump endorsed
- 14:09Speaker 2: his opposition, A different Republican and incumbent Georgia secretary of
- 14:14Speaker 2: state currently running for governor, received just fourteen percent of
- 14:17Speaker 2: the primary vote, So Raffensberger, who thought he was a
- 14:20Speaker 2: showing to be governor, lost. He came in third in
- 14:24Speaker 2: the primaries because Trump endorsed somebody else, once again showing
- 14:28Speaker 2: the power of Trump unbelievable. So again we want to
- 14:32Speaker 2: know what you have to say about this, what's your opinion,
- 14:34Speaker 2: what you're feeling. Eight hundred three two one zero seven ten.
- 14:37Speaker 2: We're going to take calls in just a few minutes.
- 14:39Speaker 2: Eight hundred three two one zero seven ten seven ten WR.
- 14:45Speaker 1: This is the Mark Simone Show on seven ten wr
- 14:49Speaker 1: INN from Mark Today. Here's Ken Rosatto.
- 14:53Speaker 2: I'd great to have you with us on your Friday
- 14:55Speaker 2: of Memorial Day weekend. Again, remember the good folks who
- 14:58Speaker 2: fought and die for us. That's what days about. And
- 15:01Speaker 2: remember kind of resisting happy Memorial Day instead. I mean,
- 15:05Speaker 2: it's fine to say have a good Memorial Day, but
- 15:08Speaker 2: happy is not what it's about. It's about remembering those
- 15:10Speaker 2: people who died for us. It should be a solemn time.
- 15:14Speaker 2: So just remember that. Don't want to bring everybody down,
- 15:16Speaker 2: but just kind of remember that because of them we
- 15:19Speaker 2: have the freedom and the joy and the abilities that
- 15:21Speaker 2: we have today. Eight hundred three to two one zero
- 15:24Speaker 2: seven ten. Eight hundred three to two one zero seven ten.
- 15:27Speaker 2: Time to go to our busy phones. We go to
- 15:28Speaker 2: rob in Franklin Square. Good morning, Rob, Good morning to you.
- 15:31Speaker 5: Ken. It's nice to hear you. If we're filling it
- 15:33Speaker 5: from walking in the problem I have. I always remember
- 15:38Speaker 5: Memorial Day was always on May thirtieth, right now. I
- 15:42Speaker 5: understand with the thing with the three day holidays, but
- 15:45Speaker 5: they push it up Monday morning. Why couldn't they Why
- 15:48Speaker 5: couldn't Memorial Day be May twenty night, next Friday. You
- 15:52Speaker 5: could give people Friday, Saturday, Sunday. If that's what's so important.
- 15:56Speaker 5: Now everybody's worried about it's going to be rainy for
- 16:00Speaker 5: this weekend. Too bad, right, you know, it's not the
- 16:04Speaker 5: Memorial Days, not for hot dogs, and you know, I mean,
- 16:06Speaker 5: it's nice to have family to get togethers. But that's
- 16:08Speaker 5: the thing I remember. I think it was about nineteen
- 16:12Speaker 5: seventy nine. I was a big Dave Kingman fan. I
- 16:15Speaker 5: went down to the VET to see the Cubs and
- 16:17Speaker 5: the Phillies play was on a Thursday, a beautiful day,
- 16:21Speaker 5: May thirtieth. So that's why people today. The person that
- 16:27Speaker 5: was on the show before you that she interviewed the
- 16:29Speaker 5: people there was one mile It looked like a mom
- 16:32Speaker 5: in the thirties, and she asked, well, what do you
- 16:34Speaker 5: think about? She says, yeah, well, I know, I'm not
- 16:37Speaker 5: sure whether it's about I think it's something about the veterans.
- 16:41Speaker 5: That's what's the people all are early interested in. Is
- 16:44Speaker 5: the three day on holidays?
- 16:45Speaker 2: Well, and you know what, if I could jump around,
- 16:47Speaker 2: let me jump in if I may, Rob, please, And
- 16:49Speaker 2: that is I think part of it is also on
- 16:52Speaker 2: those of us who are broadcasting. You know, all the
- 16:54Speaker 2: years I was a Channel seven and this is not
- 16:57Speaker 2: to knock Channel seven. This was every broadcast news outlet.
- 17:01Speaker 2: You really need to have a kind of revision, not revision,
- 17:05Speaker 2: it's what's the word I'm looking for? A reminder. Course
- 17:08Speaker 2: it should be incumbent upon the broadcasters to remind people
- 17:11Speaker 2: what it's about. That's what it is. We're supposed to
- 17:14Speaker 2: be in the public interest, right, We're supposed to be
- 17:16Speaker 2: here serving the public. That's part of it. Just remember
- 17:18Speaker 2: that this day is for this reason because younger people
- 17:22Speaker 2: coming up don't know, and new people who moved here
- 17:23Speaker 2: from other countries don't know. And it doesn't hurt to
- 17:26Speaker 2: take a segment a second to remind people. But you
- 17:28Speaker 2: know what, Rob is one hundred percent right, and yes
- 17:30Speaker 2: I do remember when it was the same day every year.
- 17:32Speaker 2: Now it feels like sometimes, oh it's a memorial day,
- 17:35Speaker 2: it's the second of May. No stop, stop, I get it.
- 17:38Speaker 2: But the main job is we should remember those who
- 17:40Speaker 2: fought and died. That's the most important thing. Let's go
- 17:42Speaker 2: to Joe in Elmwood Park.
- 17:44Speaker 6: Good morning, Joe, Good morning, Ken, Good mornings. Always taking
- 17:47Speaker 6: morning fits. You said we could talk about anything. Where
- 17:51Speaker 6: is Jack Tibbarelli. How come he's not. We have this
- 17:54Speaker 6: clown here, this McKey, whatever her name is. I can't
- 18:00Speaker 6: get over. And I don't understand.
- 18:01Speaker 2: I know. Look, you know I do a daily show
- 18:03Speaker 2: in New Jersey every day and I covered Jack up
- 18:07Speaker 2: and down. Jack's a wonderful, wonderful guy. Love Jack to death. Uh,
- 18:11Speaker 2: it's just New Jersey's a tough state right now. And
- 18:15Speaker 2: if there's any state that that shows the blue underbelly's
- 18:20Speaker 2: when there's an election and there's something they don't like
- 18:22Speaker 2: from the right, it's New Jersey, unfortunately. And and that's
- 18:25Speaker 2: the deal. We haven't seen much of Jack, but I
- 18:27Speaker 2: think because right now he's probably he's he's feeling it.
- 18:30Speaker 5: Uh.
- 18:30Speaker 2: He spent a lot of time and money, and I
- 18:32Speaker 2: think there were polls that showed he could have pulled
- 18:34Speaker 2: it off. But I don't know if I I don't
- 18:37Speaker 2: want to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but yeah.
- 18:40Speaker 6: You know what I mean, anybody with three brain cells
- 18:42Speaker 6: knew that last time Murphy stole it from him. That
- 18:46Speaker 6: was obvious. And now we got this clown and people
- 18:49Speaker 6: are leaving.
- 18:50Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, people say that's just anecdotal. I know
- 18:54Speaker 2: four different families who've left New Jersey in the last
- 18:56Speaker 2: few months. And by the way, the funniest part, Joe,
- 18:58Speaker 2: not all of them are are republic I have some
- 19:00Speaker 2: Democrat friends to say they can't afford it anymore, and
- 19:02Speaker 2: they went and retired down in Florida too. They can't
- 19:04Speaker 2: take it.
- 19:05Speaker 6: And what about all the corporations Standard oil?
- 19:10Speaker 2: Standard is shell or Standard I'm sorry, is Mobile? So
- 19:13Speaker 2: Exon Mobil. Remember Exon Mobile started out. Remember they started
- 19:18Speaker 2: out as s O Standard Oil, and then it became
- 19:21Speaker 2: E S s O s O and then it became
- 19:24Speaker 2: Exon and then Mobile, et cetera. So, for those of
- 19:26Speaker 2: you that don't realize the history of it, but that
- 19:28Speaker 2: was headquartered in New Jersey since its inception. It's gone.
- 19:31Speaker 2: But that's what you get when you get liberals in
- 19:34Speaker 2: charge who really don't care about the corporations they claim
- 19:36Speaker 2: to love because they get all the money from them.
- 19:39Speaker 2: That's it dropping like flies, all right, Joe, thank you
- 19:42Speaker 2: so much. Enjoy enjoy family gathering. But let's remember the
- 19:46Speaker 2: good folks who fought in that. Thank you, Joe. And
- 19:50Speaker 2: then we go to Maria in Connecticut. Good morning to you.
- 19:53Speaker 7: Good morning to you. I want to tell you before
- 19:55Speaker 7: my question, you are a wonderful host for him.
- 20:00Speaker 4: Mark.
- 20:00Speaker 7: Can I get disappointed when there's somebody else, but you're
- 20:02Speaker 7: really fabulous?
- 20:03Speaker 2: Honest, honestly, Marie, if I could, I get disappointed too,
- 20:07Speaker 2: even when I'm on, because I listened everything. No, I'm serious,
- 20:11Speaker 2: not that I don't love sitting here, but I've said
- 20:13Speaker 2: it over and over again. I'm not a liar. I
- 20:16Speaker 2: love the Mark Simon Show. And when I tell you,
- 20:19Speaker 2: I listen to this station from nine am on so
- 20:21Speaker 2: I catch the end of Curtis and I listened to
- 20:27Speaker 2: the Morning Show. Of course, I've listened to the Morning
- 20:29Speaker 2: Show Larry and when it was Larry Menty alone, and
- 20:32Speaker 2: then Larry and Curtis since they came together. I get
- 20:35Speaker 2: the nine to ten hour because that's when I'm done
- 20:36Speaker 2: with my show in New Jersey. Then I listen to
- 20:39Speaker 2: Mark every day. I text him. He must say, this
- 20:41Speaker 2: guy's a pain in my neck. I text Mark during
- 20:43Speaker 2: the show. I love him so much, but I'm sorry.
- 20:45Speaker 2: Please continue, Maria, go ahead.
- 20:47Speaker 7: Oh yeah, well, thank you. My question is about John
- 20:51Speaker 7: who I don't understand why this is rigging out. Did
- 20:55Speaker 7: somebody fire him or the other thing I've heard is
- 20:59Speaker 7: that in unique five senators to put something up a
- 21:02Speaker 7: bill or whatever to get rid of him. Why is
- 21:06Speaker 7: going on so long he has the.
- 21:08Speaker 2: Power over like this? Yeah, it's you know the thing.
- 21:11Speaker 2: And John Thune, who is the he's the head of
- 21:13Speaker 2: the Senate, the Republican in charge if you will, and yeah,
- 21:16Speaker 2: there you know what Thune. Everybody who seems to take
- 21:20Speaker 2: office in either the House or the Senate and becomes
- 21:23Speaker 2: in charge, everyone then starts to say why aren't they
- 21:25Speaker 2: doing this? And why aren't they doing that? And apparently
- 21:27Speaker 2: so much of it is because it's all about wheeling
- 21:31Speaker 2: and dealing, and if you don't have enough senators backing
- 21:34Speaker 2: what you want, you can't put your neck out and
- 21:36Speaker 2: go on the floor and bring something on the floor
- 21:38Speaker 2: because if you're going to lose, you lose credibility, and
- 21:41Speaker 2: that's that's really what it comes down to, Maria. But
- 21:43Speaker 2: I appreciate the call, and I understand what you're saying.
- 21:46Speaker 2: But you know, knowing people who've been Congress members, and
- 21:48Speaker 2: they've told me that that's why what seems to be
- 21:50Speaker 2: obvious for us, why don't they just bring it to
- 21:52Speaker 2: for a vote. It's because they know they don't have
- 21:54Speaker 2: the support at that moment. And there are one thousand
- 21:56Speaker 2: and one reasons why at that moment they don't have support.
- 22:00Speaker 2: We'll see we're going to have a kind of kind
- 22:03Speaker 2: of a weekend in terms of weather, but again it's
- 22:04Speaker 2: not about the weather. It's about remembering those who died
- 22:07Speaker 2: for us. But seven ten WR is the voice of
- 22:10Speaker 2: New York. Phone lines are still open eight hundred and
- 22:12Speaker 2: three two one zero, seven ten, and we are going
- 22:15Speaker 2: to have lots more coming up, So don't go away.
- 22:17Speaker 2: You're listening to seven ten WR Now the News with
- 22:20Speaker 2: Daria Albinger. Good morning, Ken, nice to have you here today.
- 22:24Speaker 1: You're sorry Now more of the Mark Simone Show on
- 22:27Speaker 1: seven ten wor filling in.
- 22:30Speaker 2: For Mark here again is Ken Rosado. So nice to
- 22:34Speaker 2: be with you on a Friday. Remember the special weekend
- 22:37Speaker 2: that this is Memorial Day. So remember try not to
- 22:39Speaker 2: say the term happy Memorial Day, but you could say,
- 22:43Speaker 2: have a thoughtful Memorial Day, have a good Memorial Day,
- 22:46Speaker 2: but happy. It's not supposed to be about it. To
- 22:49Speaker 2: remember the people who died for us. They fought and
- 22:51Speaker 2: died for us. But we thank the families who are
- 22:54Speaker 2: left behind, who have to deal with the loss of
- 22:57Speaker 2: their loved ones, and thank you for that ultimate sacrifice.
- 23:00Speaker 2: Seven to ten wo R. You're listening to the Mark
- 23:03Speaker 2: Simone Show on a Friday morning again. Ken Risotto from
- 23:06Speaker 2: used to be Channel seven for twenty years and I
- 23:08Speaker 2: was with Channel five. Good to be filling in for
- 23:10Speaker 2: Mark was a nice long weekend. Well. He is a
- 23:13Speaker 2: twenty five year Navy veteran who's now running for congress
- 23:17Speaker 2: in Southern California's forty ninth congressional district. We say good
- 23:20Speaker 2: morning to armand Curty and good to have you on.
- 23:24Speaker 4: Good morning, Chris, how y'all doing today?
- 23:26Speaker 2: Good is Ken Rosotto here and Arman you you are
- 23:29Speaker 2: a twenty five year veteran. You are a Navy captain,
- 23:32Speaker 2: So thank you, sir for your service. Before I even
- 23:35Speaker 2: get into the other questions I was going to ask you.
- 23:37Speaker 2: I wanted to see what it was, what Memorial Day
- 23:40Speaker 2: means for you having served so many years.
- 23:44Speaker 4: Thanks so much for that. You know, did we lose
- 23:47Speaker 4: all naval aviators, some dimontored, some that I've worked in
- 23:51Speaker 4: other air wings, and several of them gave their lives
- 23:55Speaker 4: to their country, and you know in training accidents when
- 23:59Speaker 4: they were working hard to better their skills and keep
- 24:03Speaker 4: their keep their skills sharp. It's a very dangerous profession.
- 24:06Speaker 4: One of them was my assistant operations officer I after
- 24:11Speaker 4: OPT my squadron was he was involved in a in
- 24:13Speaker 4: a training accident. So I always go back and think
- 24:17Speaker 4: to those individuals that I personally lost. You know, some
- 24:22Speaker 4: good friends, good good folks that I know, had beers
- 24:24Speaker 4: with and everything, and this it's sad and it's unfortunate.
- 24:27Speaker 4: Even one of them going all the way back to
- 24:29Speaker 4: my time in r OTC, so one of the upperclassmen
- 24:33Speaker 4: to help train me and become a better officer. So
- 24:36Speaker 4: that's that's what I hold in my heart on Memorial Day.
- 24:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm glad you pointed that out, Armor because we
- 24:41Speaker 2: tend to say for those who fought and died. I've
- 24:42Speaker 2: been saying that, but you're right. Look, if you die
- 24:45Speaker 2: in training, you're still giving your life for your country,
- 24:48Speaker 2: and your family still has that devastating loss of their
- 24:51Speaker 2: loved one. You still died serving the country. So I'm
- 24:55Speaker 2: glad you pointed that out. It's very very important if
- 24:58Speaker 2: you if you decide to sign up, and it's all voluntary,
- 25:02Speaker 2: of course, if you decide to sign up and serve
- 25:04Speaker 2: the country, you deserve all the honor and thanks of
- 25:07Speaker 2: Americans for what you've done. Well. Now, just to shift
- 25:11Speaker 2: gears a little bit, we wanted to talk to you
- 25:12Speaker 2: about how ninety four year old former Cuban dictator Raul
- 25:16Speaker 2: Castro is charged with conspiracy to kill US nationals, four
- 25:19Speaker 2: council murder, destruction of aircraft from a nineteen ninety six
- 25:22Speaker 2: shootdown of two unarmed civilian Cessant planes operated by the
- 25:26Speaker 2: Miami based exile group Brothers to the Rescue, and of course,
- 25:30Speaker 2: Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche announced the charges on Wednesday
- 25:34Speaker 2: as a major step toward accountability. Do you think that
- 25:37Speaker 2: that was done in order to let the ninety four
- 25:40Speaker 2: year old Raul Castro know that he is next to
- 25:43Speaker 2: be brought back to the US like they did to
- 25:45Speaker 2: Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro.
- 25:48Speaker 4: Now this is really really interesting. I mean, I think
- 25:50Speaker 4: you just said that the guy's ninety four years old.
- 25:53Speaker 4: He's a you know, I guess he's kind of a symbol,
- 25:55Speaker 4: the last living symbol of the Cuban revolution of sixty
- 25:59Speaker 4: years ago. The question is is the president really thinking
- 26:03Speaker 4: about going and physically extracting him if they don't turn
- 26:06Speaker 4: him over. And that's a very good question. You know,
- 26:09Speaker 4: the Cuban military is not as capable as the Venezuelan
- 26:13Speaker 4: military is, but Cuba is also ninety miles from from
- 26:15Speaker 4: our coast, so you know, if they go, if the
- 26:17Speaker 4: President goes in and takes him, is Cuba going to retaliate?
- 26:20Speaker 4: Are they going to strike back at us? Knowing that
- 26:22Speaker 4: we could go right back at them really hard, but
- 26:26Speaker 4: perhaps risking the political damage of you know, a few
- 26:28Speaker 4: drones striking targets in southern Florida. Who knows this is
- 26:33Speaker 4: this is a very interesting situation. He's done. The president
- 26:37Speaker 4: has a very different calculus, obviously, as we've seen to
- 26:40Speaker 4: foreign policy, he breaks all the norms. And I will
- 26:45Speaker 4: say that all the time, but you know, a majority
- 26:47Speaker 4: of the time he tends to come out on top
- 26:51Speaker 4: with with what he does, So I think a lot
- 26:54Speaker 4: remains to be seen as to whether the value of
- 26:57Speaker 4: actually doing that is beneficial. Remember, he's not the president
- 27:00Speaker 4: of the country. Maduro was a president of Venezuela. This
- 27:02Speaker 4: guy's just sort of a figurehead. If you look at
- 27:04Speaker 4: the Cuban government, a lot of them are still very
- 27:07Speaker 4: very much aligned. I don't know that necessarily moving it
- 27:09Speaker 4: was going to change qs behavior, which I think what
- 27:11Speaker 4: the president really ultimately wants to see.
- 27:14Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, I worked in Miami. I worked for
- 27:17Speaker 2: the CBS station there for five years as an anchor,
- 27:20Speaker 2: and one of my co anchors was her family's all
- 27:23Speaker 2: from Cuba. She was from Cuba. She was born in Cuba.
- 27:25Speaker 2: Ileana Varilla, her name is. She was an anchor there
- 27:27Speaker 2: for years in Miami, and she said that the biggest
- 27:30Speaker 2: enemy of the Cuban people, of the Cuban people, that
- 27:33Speaker 2: the Cuban people who come to South Florida send back
- 27:36Speaker 2: so much American cash to help their relatives back home
- 27:40Speaker 2: that it doesn't allow communism to collapse because without the
- 27:44Speaker 2: cash influx from South Florida Cuba would have folded thirty
- 27:49Speaker 2: forty years ago for lack of money. They don't produce anything,
- 27:52Speaker 2: but because the Miami Cubans sends so much over it,
- 27:56Speaker 2: because they don't want their loved ones to starve, they
- 27:58Speaker 2: send so much money over that has propped up the
- 28:01Speaker 2: government and as a result, it still survives and the
- 28:04Speaker 2: people have not encountered.
- 28:05Speaker 4: Though.
- 28:06Speaker 2: Don't get me wrong, it's not like they live high
- 28:07Speaker 2: on the hog, so to say. They struggle soup lines
- 28:10Speaker 2: and everything else. I have breadlines, I should say. But
- 28:14Speaker 2: they would have probably toppled their government many decades ago
- 28:18Speaker 2: if not for South Florida helping them out.
- 28:23Speaker 4: You bring up a very interesting point, which is what
- 28:25Speaker 4: Trump the same type of leverage he was using in Iran.
- 28:30Speaker 4: When when you squeeze somebody, find it really squeezed someone financially,
- 28:33Speaker 4: it causes major, in serious damage, you know, not just
- 28:36Speaker 4: regular general sanctions. You know, back in the twenty sixteen
- 28:40Speaker 4: twenty seventeen when he when the president puts those kinds
- 28:42Speaker 4: of chantions on Iran, they were unable to fund their
- 28:44Speaker 4: proxies to the locals they actually wanted. And that was
- 28:47Speaker 4: changed under the Biden administration. In the sense of a Cuba.
- 28:50Speaker 4: You're you're absolutely right. They don't produce anything precise recides sugarcane.
- 28:55Speaker 4: They you know, they're they're exceptionally isolated from most of
- 28:58Speaker 4: the US in the world. They got us allowed a
- 29:01Speaker 4: Russian tanker to provide them some oil for humanitarian reasons.
- 29:05Speaker 4: Then the president has said, you know, we're going to
- 29:07Speaker 4: continue to allow this to happen, just for humanitarian but otherwise,
- 29:11Speaker 4: you know, just enough so that the population doesn't suffer
- 29:16Speaker 4: some massive humanitarian crisis.
- 29:18Speaker 2: So because then it would be on us, right if
- 29:20Speaker 2: the sort to step on you, because then it would
- 29:22Speaker 2: be for us to step up and save them. So
- 29:24Speaker 2: it's like it actually helps us out by just letting
- 29:26Speaker 2: the Russian tanker be there to help them.
- 29:28Speaker 4: Yeah. Absolutely, And you don't want to create, you don't
- 29:33Speaker 4: want to hurt the people that you're trying to liberate,
- 29:35Speaker 4: because then then they'll unite against their government, what despotic
- 29:38Speaker 4: or tyrannicalism may be. They'll they'll see them as the
- 29:41Speaker 4: protector against someone who's trying to actually change the behavior
- 29:45Speaker 4: of the human people. It's going to require a lot
- 29:47Speaker 4: more than that. It's going to require a lot more
- 29:49Speaker 4: psychological operations, information operations. You know, you know, a Voice
- 29:54Speaker 4: of America. You know, let's let's bring that back. Let's
- 29:58Speaker 4: these are the kinds of things that you that they
- 30:00Speaker 4: it's the idea that's not just a financial aspect, that
- 30:03Speaker 4: we really need there in the island.
- 30:04Speaker 2: It's funny you say that because the AM radio stations
- 30:07Speaker 2: in Cuba broadcast at five hundred thousand watts. Now in
- 30:12Speaker 2: the United States, the maximum wattage for an AM is
- 30:15Speaker 2: fifty thousand watts, like seven to ten war. We're a
- 30:17Speaker 2: fifty thousand watts station, which is powerful for a region,
- 30:21Speaker 2: for a little It's not a little island. It's a
- 30:23Speaker 2: long island, but it's not that wide. Five hundred thousand
- 30:25Speaker 2: watts spreads out for about five hundred miles in all directions.
- 30:29Speaker 2: At night in South Florida, you can hear the Cuban
- 30:31Speaker 2: radio stations on AM better than you can hear the
- 30:33Speaker 2: local stations, and that is to keep our signals out
- 30:35Speaker 2: of their country on purpose. So it's interesting you talk
- 30:38Speaker 2: about Voice of America. Before I let you go, though,
- 30:40Speaker 2: I want to ask you really quickly about the situation
- 30:43Speaker 2: of Congress in California. You're running as a Republican in
- 30:46Speaker 2: California's forty ninth congressional district. How's that looking? Because it
- 30:51Speaker 2: pardoned me with redistricting and whatnot, what are the chances
- 30:53Speaker 2: of having any Republicans elected to Congress in California?
- 30:56Speaker 4: Now? It's always hard?
- 31:00Speaker 2: Yeah, did we lose armon?
- 31:03Speaker 4: What they did? They they can you hear me?
- 31:06Speaker 2: Yeah? Now we got you back. You dropped out for
- 31:07Speaker 2: a second, We got you back.
- 31:08Speaker 4: Sorry. Yeah. What they did they drew out a couple
- 31:11Speaker 4: of candidates just they just curved them just right out
- 31:13Speaker 4: of their district that they were actually running for. They
- 31:15Speaker 4: put two other very popular Republicans in the same district.
- 31:18Speaker 4: So it was a very very deliberate or malicious effort
- 31:21Speaker 4: on their parts. But it is it's certainly not impossible.
- 31:25Speaker 4: With the right messaging and on the right type of
- 31:27Speaker 4: campaign strategy, you can go. I've always thought that Republicans
- 31:30Speaker 4: tend to waste a lot of money in their campaigns
- 31:33Speaker 4: and stuff that's not effective. I've been very, very focused
- 31:35Speaker 4: on direct voter contact and the kind of messaging that
- 31:39Speaker 4: connects with photos. You know, it's cost of living, it's education,
- 31:41Speaker 4: it's jobs. You have the highest employment of any state
- 31:43Speaker 4: in the country and one and a half billion people
- 31:45Speaker 4: who fled the state. That's tangible. Even the labor unions
- 31:48Speaker 4: understand that. So it's it's it's all about that that
- 31:52Speaker 4: that that kind of work, and also cooperating with down
- 31:55Speaker 4: ballid candidates to help help them, help you, you help
- 31:58Speaker 4: them kind of going forward. It's it's kind of an
- 32:00Speaker 4: all hands on deck effort. California is not beyond saving.
- 32:03Speaker 4: What is reflected in you've see the national media is
- 32:06Speaker 4: the people aren't that crazy. We got some crazy people
- 32:09Speaker 4: here certainly, but it's not as crazy on mass as
- 32:13Speaker 4: it might seem. And you know, if you work hard
- 32:15Speaker 4: every now and then you pull.
- 32:16Speaker 2: Off on let's let's keep our fingers crossed. Twenty five
- 32:19Speaker 2: year Navy veteran former Navy captain now running for Congress
- 32:22Speaker 2: in Southern California's forty ninth congressional district, Arman Curdion, best
- 32:27Speaker 2: of luck on the race. Thank you for coming on
- 32:28Speaker 2: this morning and a thoughtful Memorial Day for.
- 32:31Speaker 4: You, absolutely, thank you.
- 32:34Speaker 2: Thank you. Sken Rosatta went for mark on your Friday
- 32:36Speaker 2: seven ten w o R will take your calls coming
- 32:39Speaker 2: up next. Eight hundred three to two one zero seven
- 32:42Speaker 2: ten eight hundred three to two one zero seven ten
- 32:44Speaker 2: for seven ten WR.
- 32:47Speaker 1: This is the Mark Simone Show on seven ten WR.
- 32:51Speaker 1: Ken from Mark Today, Here's Ken Rosatto, the Mark Simone
- 32:55Speaker 1: Show on seven ten WR.
- 32:59Speaker 2: And a very good morning. You're good to be back.
- 33:00Speaker 2: Let's go to our phones right now. It's seven ten
- 33:02Speaker 2: w R. I believe it's Michael. Good morning. Where are
- 33:06Speaker 2: you calling from?
- 33:06Speaker 6: Michael Francis?
- 33:09Speaker 2: All right, it's so there must be a Michael in
