- 0:00Hello everyone and welcome back to Kenny and Charlie, top two
- 0:05brought to you by Jags, the leader in high performance
- 0:09aftermarket car parts. Remember to go to jags.com for
- 0:14everything you need to fix your vehicle up.
- 0:16And of course, David and everybody at Jags is telling me
- 0:20that they have Jeep parts and truck parts in stock right now.
- 0:24Charlie, how you doing? I am doing great Herm.
- 0:28How are you, Sir? I'm excited.
- 0:31Well, let's get right to it. All right.
- 0:35Will the two weeks that NASCAR is taking off for the Olympics,
- 0:42will that make people like NASCAR more?
- 0:46There is just a thought, Charlie, that if you give the
- 0:50people what they want all the time, then they have a chance to
- 0:53complain. You give them two weeks off,
- 0:57they might miss it. Will they like NASCAR more?
- 1:01Yes, and I think people already miss it.
- 1:04This is weird this this Olympics break is weird.
- 1:08And I'm trying to think of like a football schedule.
- 1:11If if you follow a team and you have a bye week, OK, you have a
- 1:14bye week. But to have two straight weeks,
- 1:16and really if you think about it, because if you race every
- 1:19week, it's kind of like 3 off weeks, right?
- 1:22It's three straight weeks, OK, You talk a little bit about
- 1:25Indy, but then it's like it's almost three full weeks till you
- 1:29have a race. And I think, I think the NASCAR
- 1:33schedule to me is an easy watch because if you're just watching
- 1:37the Cup guys, it's kind of how you plan your Sundays, right?
- 1:41You plan your Sundays around that.
- 1:43Maybe you go to lunch, brunch, church, whatever it is, but then
- 1:46you miss it, right? I mean, baseball is, is one of
- 1:49those things you have to kind of watch it every night.
- 1:52It's always on your TV from 7:00 to 10:00.
- 1:55So I don't know for me, you miss NASCAR on Sundays, but then also
- 2:00you miss talking about the race for the next half of the week
- 2:05and then previewing the race the next week.
- 2:07So yes, 100% I think NASCAR fans miss it.
- 2:11They want it back. And two weeks in a row is too
- 2:14long for me. Yeah, I got to agree.
- 2:16And I go to the psychology part. The fans love NASCAR, but then
- 2:22you also got the group that is 25%.
- 2:25So we have 100%. We've already done all the
- 2:28polls. About 77% of people love NASCAR
- 2:33and the other small portion, they love it, but they want to
- 2:36complain about it. That is their sport, Charlie.
- 2:40I think they're going to miss complaining about it and and
- 2:42that's going to make them love it more.
- 2:44So I really feel like this is a a brilliant move by NASCAR.
- 2:48I don't really remember the last time that they said, OK, we're
- 2:53taking off because of the Olympics.
- 2:56I also feel like this is something that TV pretty much
- 3:01made them call their hand. In other words, the Olympics are
- 3:05on NBC, then they're on the USA Network.
- 3:08And I don't know about you, but if you scrolled your TV, you can
- 3:12find the Olympics on every hidden channel.
- 3:15So if they had NASCAR right now, it it might be on streaming.
- 3:22So I really feel like this is a psychology lesson to everybody.
- 3:26I feel like this is going to be a big lesson.
- 3:30I think this is a big turning point in NASCAR.
- 3:33Two weeks off is going to make people.
- 3:37It's going to remind them why they love NASCAR.
- 3:40Yes, and I agree it's one of those things that we've talked
- 3:43about in the past. You've talked about this Dale
- 3:46Junior's talked about this. Maybe NASCAR needs to race less,
- 3:51right That that's a fair it's a fair conversation and debate.
- 3:55But then also be careful what you wish for because sometimes
- 4:01if if you got twenty straight races and you're like, OK, it's
- 4:04feeling redundant. But then when you have that two
- 4:06weeks off, you really do realize how much you miss it.
- 4:09So sometimes the grass is not always greener.
- 4:12Yeah, and, and I, I don't like winter.
- 4:14I don't like winter because I'm getting older and I don't have
- 4:18fun in the snow unless I'm going to go to Canada or, you know,
- 4:21out the West, you know, somewhere.
- 4:24But I don't like winter. I get into about January and I'm
- 4:28like, my God, please bring NASCAR back.
- 4:31You know, Charlie, if you make somebody sit in their house all
- 4:36day long, it drives me crazy. So imagine people taking almost
- 4:4120 days off because you bring up a good point and we'll end it
- 4:44like this, Charlie. We're not going to beat it like
- 4:47a dead horse. You get one week off, then
- 4:51another week off. That's two weeks.
- 4:53But you're right, you add on, you add on the other four days,
- 4:58you're almost off 3 weeks because you know, Monday through
- 5:03Sunday, then Monday through Sunday, then Monday through
- 5:06Thursday, then they start racing.
- 5:08So you know, that's all. You're right, that's a long time
- 5:11off. It's more than two weeks because
- 5:13you got to wait the other week to get to the third week, right?
- 5:16For sure. Yeah, OK.
- 5:19Respond right here everybody, like subscribe, comment.
- 5:24Is this going to make you love NASCAR more?
- 5:28Two weeks off. Remember, you want to complain
- 5:31about NASCAR. They're not giving you nothing
- 5:33to complain about. This is you. 18% of the people,
- 5:37our stats say that 15 to 18% of you don't like NASCAR but you
- 5:44like to watch it. You like to complain.
- 5:46Are you part of that group? 77 something percent love
- 5:50NASCAR. OK, this one's this was really
- 5:53interesting, Charlie. We hear about this Spire racing
- 6:00and it's kind of been in and out of the news.
- 6:03Spire racing. This is made-up of Jeff
- 6:06Dickerson and TJ pusher. The president is Doug Dukar.
- 6:12These Cup cars are the number seven of Lajoie, 71 of Zane
- 6:17Smith, 71 of Hostsvar. Oh my God, they got three cup
- 6:21teams. Spire Racing.
- 6:25That's not all. They have 3 truck teams, Raja
- 6:30Carruth, the 71 and other other drivers that I really don't know
- 6:34of. I just know that Raja stands out
- 6:38that no they own 3 hockey teams. OK this this.
- 6:44I'm laughing with you. There's a little bit more of
- 6:47this Spire than than meets the eye.
- 6:49They are in the entertainment industry and I hear this Spire
- 6:53is really hooked up with Rick Hendrick track house Will Spire.
- 7:02Here is the question, everybody. Will Spire be the next big thing
- 7:08and here's why. How in the world did they just
- 7:12hire one of the top crew chiefs in our industry of Rodney
- 7:16Shielders? So Charlie, I'm going to ask you
- 7:18the question. Little sleeping giant over here.
- 7:22Spire, they just hired for next year.
- 7:27Rodney Shielders is leaving the now defunct Stewart Haas and
- 7:30going to Spire next year. Is Spire the next big team?
- 7:35What do you think? It seems like it it'd be
- 7:38interesting too, if they kind of jumped Track House to be the
- 7:41next big thing because I think most people thought Track House
- 7:44would would get there. And Ross Chastain is kind of
- 7:47taking a bit of a step back. When when you told me we were
- 7:50going to discuss this, the first thing I thought of was I find it
- 7:54kind of interesting that Spire moved on from Corey Lajoie.
- 7:59And as you said, you got childers, but you need a big
- 8:02name driver. I know there's been some reports
- 8:04about about Kyle Busch, but he's under contract.
- 8:06So who knows what could happen Not next year, but even the year
- 8:10after that. But what I find interesting, do
- 8:13you remember last year when Chase Elliott wasn't Chase
- 8:16Elliott? He he missed a race, he was
- 8:18suspended, whatever it was, and Corey Lajoie filled in for him
- 8:21at St. And I remember, yes, so I
- 8:24remember Corey Lajoie's press conference and he was talking
- 8:28about how how big time Hendrick was, right?
- 8:32Like all the information, all the data that he got at Hendrick
- 8:36that he didn't get at Spire. And I don't think when he said
- 8:39that, by the way, he was trying to throw Spire under the bus.
- 8:42But I find it interesting now that here's Spire a year later
- 8:47trying to become a Hendrick and then they move on from Corey
- 8:51Lajoie. So there's probably a lot of
- 8:53truth to that, though. But here's Spire, this little
- 8:56team at the time, but they're trying to become a big dog and
- 8:58then they move on from Corey Lajoie.
- 9:00I think. I think they could be is my
- 9:02answer. But you got to have at least one
- 9:05big name driver, or you got to have one of those young drivers
- 9:08really take a step and become a playoff driver.
- 9:12Yeah, I'm a little jaded. That means I know a little bit
- 9:14too much about this. If you, if there's anybody
- 9:17listening that knows a lot about racing, if you start peeling the
- 9:21layers back, which fire started it had it kind of at the bottom
- 9:25there, the Agajanian group. So the Agajanian group is a very
- 9:30strong group that's been in racing for years.
- 9:34You know, Kerry Agajanian, Indianapolis 500 STP is the
- 9:41racers. As you, you go out there, you
- 9:44see Agajanian their their history started at Indianapolis
- 9:47500. There are group that are
- 9:50business people and they get sponsorship.
- 9:55The reason I wanted to bring this subject up is because
- 9:57Spider also is a diverse program.
- 10:00So in other words, diversity. But I see, I see a lot going on
- 10:06that makes me go. All I'm saying, Charlie, is
- 10:10we're calling it OK. The they've been around.
- 10:14But now I know that Hendrick is in there.
- 10:16I know that they were big with Chip Ganassi.
- 10:20I know that NASCAR likes him because of the diversity
- 10:22program. They are able to acquire
- 10:26sponsorship after sponsorship. They are the team that gets the
- 10:31most sponsors. They are the ones that have been
- 10:34in the news spending $40 million on a charter.
- 10:38So I don't want to be redundant, but I just don't believe you
- 10:43hire Rodney Childers to pick up a driver that's just starting
- 10:48out. I here's what I think.
- 10:51I think they called Rodney up and they said, Rodney, we're
- 10:54going to take that next step. It's time.
- 10:57Carson, host of our run 8th at the Brickyard.
- 11:00Zane Smith running pretty good now in the news.
- 11:05Charlie, they just let Corey Legjoy go for next year.
- 11:10So that means Rodney Children gets to choose a driver.
- 11:14I mean, does the team choose the driver or does Rodney Children
- 11:18choose the driver? Charlie, clip this for me and
- 11:21you. I think that they brought Rodney
- 11:25Children into like bring the team up to the next level.
- 11:29I think they're going to hire a big time driver because they're
- 11:33going to need one. They got Zane Smith, they got
- 11:36Carson Osavar, and I wouldn't be surprised.
- 11:40You know, I always tell people when they want to sign a
- 11:42contract with me, I said, oh, you mean an agreement because
- 11:46all contracts are made to get out of you could be right.
- 11:50You could be right. You know, Kyle Busch, everybody
- 11:54keeps saying, oh, he's staying at Childers.
- 11:56Well, OK, you know, RCR, I mean, you know, but I just really
- 12:03think that's the next big team. And boy, when when you Google
- 12:06them, it's like it's like, whoa, I didn't know about that.
- 12:12What's the deal with the three hockey teams?
- 12:15Do you know anything about that? I did not even, I didn't know
- 12:18that who, who do they own? Which teams?
- 12:20Let's let's look at it here. Let's see what we got here.
- 12:25Let me let me get on my Googler, OK, Spire Racing right here.
- 12:34Here they are based in Concord, NC.
- 12:37The Spire Motorsports teams feels the 771 da da da about us
- 12:46Spire Motor storage. Go on, go on.
- 12:49You know all that stuff. They're big with Chevrolet.
- 12:55So that under that makes us understand why Hendrick is
- 12:58involved there. They're all about Chevrolet.
- 13:02William Byron drove this Fire Motorsports #7 truck and it's
- 13:07inaugural NASCAR Camping World Truck Series win on April 7th,
- 13:112022 at Martinsville, followed by another win in 2023 with Kyle
- 13:17Larson piloting the Spire Motorsports #7 at Wilkesboro.
- 13:23Jeff Dickerson used to be an open wheel dude.
- 13:26USAT Midget racer. TJ Pusher is a car owner.
- 13:32He's from around New York, introduced him to future NASCAR
- 13:35Hall of Famers. Richie Evans, Stefanik.
- 13:38So you got a middle, you kind of got AUSAC Midget guy teamed up
- 13:41with the Northeast guy Pusher. You got Doug Dukart, 27 years of
- 13:47applied experience. He was with with, you know, Rick
- 13:52Hendrick for 12 years. You just don't hire these guys
- 13:56like that. But the hockey team?
- 14:01Where the heck's that at? Yeah, I'm trying to find that, I
- 14:04think. I don't know if they're NHL.
- 14:07It looks like I have an article here that says Jeff Dickerson of
- 14:10Spire Sports. He is the new owner of the Troy
- 14:14Riviera's Lions, the ECHL affiliate of the Montreal
- 14:18Canadiens. So we're talking minor league
- 14:21for at least that team. You know, yeah, they have.
- 14:24Spire Hockey. You know what's crazy, all these
- 14:26business people that I talked to, they see some type of
- 14:29transaction in these minor league hockey teams.
- 14:32What what is the deal there? Have you heard Charlie?
- 14:35You're the big sportster. Everybody that wants to do
- 14:38business, they buy these hockey teams up.
- 14:41Must be some type of deal. OK, I got it here.
- 14:44So this article, it's from The Hockey News.
- 14:47And by the way, so I'm I'm from Toledo, OH, where the ECHL when
- 14:54I was growing up, that was the Toledo Storm.
- 14:56That was our minor league team. I see that.
- 14:58Was an. Affiliate.
- 15:00Yeah. So basically they have three
- 15:01teams, it says. The Lions became the third ECHL
- 15:05franchise owned by Spire Hockey, along with the Rapid City Rush,
- 15:09which is a Calgary Flames affiliate.
- 15:11Rapid. City, South Dakota.
- 15:12Basically Sturgis. I'll be landing there next week.
- 15:15And here's a good name. This would be a good T-shirt or
- 15:17hat. The.
- 15:18Greenville, The Greenville Swamp.
- 15:21Rabbits swamp. Swamp Rabbits.
- 15:24That's an LA Kings affiliate, so they have 3 minor league teams.
- 15:29And they they are part owner of my dear friend Bob Sargent, who
- 15:35we just interviewed, it says right here.
- 15:38And short track promotions company Track Enterprise, which
- 15:43is my buddy. So they buy everything.
- 15:46You got to have money. Now, the reason we went a little
- 15:50long on this subject is you and I are, you know, it's kind of
- 15:54like, you know, and that's the rest.
- 15:57Yeah. And that's the rest of the
- 15:59story. This fire is way bigger than we
- 16:03think. They're I'm not going to, I'm
- 16:04not going to buy. We don't have any money.
- 16:07You buy a $40 million charter, you own 3 hockey teams, three
- 16:11cup teams, 3 truck teams. Henrik is their buddy track
- 16:15house and them are partner up on you know the next thing you're
- 16:18going to be doing is is concerts, right.
- 16:22That's the next thing Everybody wants to do a concert until
- 16:26something goes bad at the concert and they don't got
- 16:28enough insurance, but that's the next thing.
- 16:31Well, all right, who is that driver going to be?
- 16:34We still haven't answered ourselves.
- 16:36Everybody respond right here. Who is going to drive for Spire
- 16:43and let's put it a little more simple.
- 16:45Who is going to be Rodney Childers driver?
- 16:49Because Rodney Children, one of the number one crew chiefs and
- 16:52all of all of NASCAR respond right here to Charlie and
- 16:56myself. Who is going to be that big time
- 16:59driver that takes fire to #1 Little Birdie tells me Spires
- 17:04going to become big time. I have people in the industry
- 17:08telling me Spire called me. Spire called me.
- 17:13I know a little more. I just can't talk about it.
- 17:18That's interesting. Kyle Busch.
- 17:20I will say, maybe Kyle Busch doesn't move on until after the
- 17:242025 season, but Kyle Busch does not seem like he's having fun
- 17:30this year. He just seems every press
- 17:33conference I watch, I know he's had terrible luck.
- 17:35He just seems miserable this year.
- 17:37He really does. And he's over there in Italy
- 17:40right now. So I'll put LES Les Miserables,
- 17:44you know the play. Les Miserables.
- 17:47Yeah, whatever you call it, I call it miserable.
- 17:51OK, Charlie, we've had good time here.
- 17:53Everybody respond to that. We that was specifically, you
- 17:57know, have given you great two topics.
- 17:59Will you miss NASCAR because of two weeks off?
- 18:03Will the miserable people that love NASCAR, are you going to
- 18:06miss complaining #2 Who is going to be the next big team Spire?
- 18:13Who's going to drive for Rodney Childers, the new crew chief
- 18:16over there in 2025? All right, Charlotte, let's
- 18:19let's end it with a lot of fun. 2 marriages in this big almost
- 18:25three weeks off Tyler Reddick gets married in Lake Geneva, WI
- 18:30to Alexa. Daniel Suarez marries in Brazil
- 18:38to Julia. Now, it's not a normal Julia.
- 18:41Julia Piquet, her father, was the great Formula One champion,
- 18:47Nelson Piquet. Now, if you go on Julia's
- 18:50Instagram, they show them at dinner at their house and
- 18:54there's a Formula One car bolted to the wall inside the living
- 18:59room. Don't tell me oh Nelson Piquet
- 19:02ain't a bad ass. So they're poor.
- 19:05They're poor. I love you.
- 19:09I love you. I'm rubbing off on you.
- 19:14Yes, Yes. Very good food.
- 19:16Do you like my my Formula One car bolted?
- 19:19That's the car I won the championship with.
- 19:21All right. So, Charlie, I got married to my
- 19:24beautiful wife Kim. June 23rd, 1984.
- 19:28My brother Rusty and myself. We left the Michigan Speedway
- 19:32came down got married here in Arnold and Father John married
- 19:37us. So these are these are these are
- 19:41who who wins the marriage. I'm going to give you first go
- 19:46so Tyler and Alexa go to Lake Geneva.
- 19:49It was a beautiful setting. Lake Geneva, Lake Geneva or
- 19:54Daniel and Julia. Brazil, Brazil, Brazil.
- 20:01Well, it's, it's hard to beat Brazil, but I have to say I'm
- 20:05I'm a Midwest guy. I'm from Ohio.
- 20:08I live in Missouri. I went to College in Illinois.
- 20:12I lived in Michigan three times. I've actually been to a wedding
- 20:16at Lake Geneva. My very good friend Tim Perryman
- 20:18got married there about 10 years ago.
- 20:20And how about this? My cousin Joey is getting
- 20:24married at Lake Geneva because he lives in Chicago now.
- 20:27So he's getting married at Lake Geneva next summer.
- 20:29So. So because I'm a Midwest person,
- 20:32I'm going to choose Lake Geneva and Wisconsin just because it's
- 20:36more, it's more my roots, you know what I'm saying?
- 20:40Let me ask this question because I don't know this and everybody
- 20:44else respond right here. Is Lake Geneva a wealthy people
- 20:49area? I don't know.
- 20:50It sounds to me like it is. Why, why?
- 20:52Why are we going to Lake Geneva? What is that?
- 20:54Is there wealth? Oh, for sure.
- 20:56It's I want to say, and people can correct me if I'm wrong, I
- 21:00want to say it's about an hour and a half from Chicago.
- 21:03So you have a lot of Chicago money and they have a lake house
- 21:06up there and there's lots of weddings and boating and all
- 21:09that. For sure.
- 21:10And, and we know the North Side of Chicago is where all the
- 21:13money's at. We know that for sure.
- 21:16All right, everybody, Kenny and Charlie top two with a little
- 21:20wedding news in the end there. So, all right, let's break it
- 21:23down real quick. Remember, will you love NASCAR
- 21:29more with the two weeks off and Spire, is that the next big
- 21:34team? You just don't convince Rodney
- 21:37children to come on over here and then let Corey Lajoie go.
- 21:41What big driver are they going to hire?
- 21:43And. And hold on, hold on.
- 21:45If you can read between the lines, it sounds like Herm knows
- 21:49they're going to be the next big team, but he can't exactly tell
- 21:52us exactly what he knows. I just know this.
- 21:56They're asking big time people. I mean big time people.
- 22:00They're they're asking I, I don't know.
- 22:04I know who they're talking to. They're asking the biggest
- 22:07people in the sport to be part of their team.
- 22:10That's my innuendo. So who is the next big time
- 22:14driver that's going to go up? I'll leave this team and they're
- 22:17going to put them in Victory Lane.
- 22:19All right, everybody, I believe they're going to put put them in
- 22:23Victory Lane again. I think they've won a race maybe
- 22:27with Justin Haley, maybe, maybe a rain delay race mate, were
- 22:31they part owner of that team? Respond right here.
- 22:34Aren't everybody remember we are in podcast form.
- 22:39And buddy, I like it because Charlie's got the podcast
- 22:42growing. If he can't watch us, you can
- 22:44listen to us on the way to work and when you leave work on the
- 22:48way back home. iTunes, Spotify, we got it covered.
- 22:54Until the next Kenny and Charlie top two.
- 22:57We'll see you next time.
