- 0:43Speaker 3: I don't like my new theme song.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Don't I'm limited in what I have? Do you like
- 0:47Speaker 1: this better?
- 0:50Speaker 3: Yes? Wait? Oh yeah, way better? That's yoursabboy, game showy,
- 0:54Speaker 3: that's yours baby. The other one sounds like an interlude
- 0:57Speaker 3: in between.
- 0:57Speaker 2: You could also have this this single.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Yeah, this is labeled monk, do you want this? Do
- 1:04Speaker 1: you want this?
- 1:05Speaker 4: One?
- 1:12Speaker 3: I thought that was when we came back from you.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I know, we're still figuring it out. Baby, Come on, man, hey,
- 1:17Speaker 1: let's tell I got to say, I haven't watched my
- 1:19Speaker 1: musical in so long. I've only seen Guy Love nine
- 1:24Speaker 1: jillion times. And not to pat ourselves in the back,
- 1:27Speaker 1: this is fucking one of the best episodes of TV
- 1:32Speaker 1: comedy ever. Yes, I think it's brilliant. And we can
- 1:37Speaker 1: say that because we didn't write it. And I want
- 1:39Speaker 1: to give kudos to the writers right off the bed,
- 1:41Speaker 1: Jeff Marx, Robert Lopez, Paul Perry, and I'm sure a
- 1:44Speaker 1: few others I don't know about. Obviously, Deb Fordham, who
- 1:47Speaker 1: wrote the episode, wrote a lot of the lyrics, with
- 1:50Speaker 1: the whole writing staff Will mackenzie, brilliant director Bill Lawrence
- 1:56Speaker 1: of course overseeing the whole thing. But it is so
- 1:59Speaker 1: tight me. First of all, it's so short, and and
- 2:02Speaker 1: to think of all those songs and all that in
- 2:05Speaker 1: what is it? Twenty twenty twenty two minutes? And Donald,
- 2:11Speaker 1: you are particularly amazing in it too, every time, I mean,
- 2:15Speaker 1: because because you really are a sing singer and a dancer.
- 2:18Speaker 1: You shine so bright in this.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Thank you man. That's very nice of you to say.
- 2:23Speaker 2: You know who really shined in this for me was Judy? Yeah,
- 2:26Speaker 2: because I know she broke her back or yeah, her hip.
- 2:29Speaker 1: But I found this trivia for those of you. Here's
- 2:31Speaker 1: your first bit of tribute. Wait, we get in the
- 2:33Speaker 1: show five six.
- 2:34Speaker 5: Stories about show we made about a bunch of n.
- 2:43Speaker 3: I said, here's a story.
- 2:46Speaker 1: All so YadA ra here, yeada here.
- 2:58Speaker 3: Okay, tell us about the trivia.
- 2:59Speaker 1: There's some trivia I learned on on Scrubs Wiki, which
- 3:03Speaker 1: is that Judy Reyes had a broken hip. Yes, and
- 3:06Speaker 1: other than the tango that she did what does with
- 3:09Speaker 1: Donald which was shot two months after the fact, they
- 3:13Speaker 1: had to come back and shoot it. Remember that you'll
- 3:16Speaker 1: notice that she's always sitting.
- 3:18Speaker 3: Yep, We're gonna miss your Carla.
- 3:21Speaker 1: The whole woman. I'm gonna miss your Carlo. She's sitting
- 3:23Speaker 1: in a wheelchair, I believe, right, Or no, why would
- 3:26Speaker 1: she be in a wheelchair.
- 3:27Speaker 3: No, she's sitting in a regular chair.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Okay, But anyway, there is some mega trivia for you
- 3:31Speaker 1: trivia buffs out there. Judy Reyes spent the whole time
- 3:36Speaker 1: in sitting, except for the tango, which was shot two
- 3:39Speaker 1: months later.
- 3:40Speaker 2: She was also out for a bit while she healed
- 3:43Speaker 2: because she uh so we we didn't see her for
- 3:46Speaker 2: a while when.
- 3:47Speaker 1: She do you remember how she broke her hip? Was
- 3:48Speaker 1: it sexually related?
- 3:50Speaker 3: Oh? I wish, I wish it was.
- 3:57Speaker 1: By the way, her voice is, first of all, I
- 4:01Speaker 1: don't know, I don't even begin, okay, And I'm sure
- 4:03Speaker 1: if you're a mega Scrubs fan and you're listening to
- 4:04Speaker 1: this podcast, you probably feel the same way because I
- 4:08Speaker 1: haven't seen it. I don't think i've seen it in
- 4:10Speaker 1: twenty years. It is so good. And Judy Rayes's voice,
- 4:14Speaker 1: first of all, amazing. Everything you do Donald and this
- 4:19Speaker 1: is amazing. But the tango I hadn't seen for the
- 4:22Speaker 1: last time. Turk, I'm Dominican. That is so fucking funny.
- 4:26Speaker 1: And the dancing is so good.
- 4:28Speaker 3: She's great.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Do you remember, like you guys, wused have rehearsed a
- 4:31Speaker 1: long time for that.
- 4:32Speaker 3: No, we didn't.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Oh, don't rub it in for us. Non dancing.
- 4:36Speaker 2: She was hurt, were hurt for ten minutes. We had
- 4:39Speaker 2: like half a day of rehearsal. So we could get
- 4:42Speaker 2: the blocking and everything down, but for the most part
- 4:45Speaker 2: she was I mean she had to come back and
- 4:48Speaker 2: like kudos to her man because she had to come
- 4:49Speaker 2: back and learn it really fast. Where we rehearsed for
- 4:54Speaker 2: a week or two before we even started blocking this show.
- 4:58Speaker 3: This episode, this was huge for us.
- 5:01Speaker 1: I mean, this was just one of the biggest things
- 5:03Speaker 1: we ever did. We pre recorded, so not only did
- 5:07Speaker 1: these genius writers that I mentioned write all this music
- 5:10Speaker 1: and then it was orchestrated, and then we had to
- 5:13Speaker 1: go and pre record all the songs so that we
- 5:16Speaker 1: could sing and dance to them, you know, and have
- 5:19Speaker 1: them be filmed. And so we had never done anything
- 5:23Speaker 1: this epic. I mean before this was by far the biggest.
- 5:26Speaker 1: I'm sure this and maybe the Princess bridewe were the
- 5:32Speaker 1: most expensive ones ever. But this was so fun. And
- 5:37Speaker 1: Will McKenzie, I mean, he's such a talented director. I mean,
- 5:42Speaker 1: he loved musicals, and he had a Broadway background, and
- 5:46Speaker 1: he's directed a zillion episodes of television and he just
- 5:49Speaker 1: was the perfect man for this assignment. The way this
- 5:52Speaker 1: is photographed, the way it goes in and out of
- 5:54Speaker 1: every time. Stephanie de Bruzzo I believe she was in
- 5:57Speaker 1: Avenue Q and she's been in a lot of broad
- 5:59Speaker 1: Way things, and she's wonderfully talented. But you know, we
- 6:03Speaker 1: only sing when she's around. And then it also takes
- 6:06Speaker 1: on this little sort of heightened glow of like a
- 6:09Speaker 1: technic color musical, you know, little little things like that.
- 6:12Speaker 1: And and just all the camera moves, I mean, the
- 6:14Speaker 1: camera is dancing too, and those.
- 6:16Speaker 3: Overheads, the lights are dancing in this bad boy.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Yes, john in would we got to give a shout
- 6:22Speaker 1: at the Johnny one who shot it beautifully. I mean,
- 6:25Speaker 1: it was nominated for five Emmys. Now Scrubs barely ever
- 6:27Speaker 1: won Emmys. No bitterness, but.
- 6:30Speaker 3: I have no I have no hate towards anyone.
- 6:34Speaker 1: I do. We should have won, We should have won
- 6:36Speaker 1: all five.
- 6:37Speaker 3: But I get we lost to Dick in the Box.
- 6:41Speaker 1: No, we won one Emmy for this episode. Do you
- 6:43Speaker 1: know what it was? What the Emmy was for?
- 6:46Speaker 3: No, ha to look at it.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Sound mixed, sound mix, just kind of because.
- 6:52Speaker 2: He lost to Dick in a Box. I just want
- 6:54Speaker 2: you to know that guy Love lost to Dick in
- 6:57Speaker 2: a Box.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Oh for song, Well, Dick in the Box is a
- 7:00Speaker 1: it was was more scene.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Because these enough to know in a gift needs given,
- 7:06Speaker 2: and I got just the one to let her know
- 7:11Speaker 2: that she's second to none. It's my dick in a box,
- 7:20Speaker 2: My dick in a box.
- 7:22Speaker 3: Girl.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Well you shouldn't be singing this song that beat us.
- 7:26Speaker 3: Well you know I'm not a sore loser. It was
- 7:29Speaker 3: years ago.
- 7:30Speaker 1: So yeah, sound mixing, that's the way. That's the end
- 7:32Speaker 1: movie won So there you go. The open the opening
- 7:37Speaker 1: dance number. I mean that took a long time to shoot.
- 7:40Speaker 1: They have those overhead beautiful. What do they call those
- 7:43Speaker 1: swimming shots?
- 7:44Speaker 3: Crane?
- 7:46Speaker 1: No, no, no, Red, No, you guys aren't talking about
- 7:49Speaker 1: buzz buzzby Berkeley. What's that expression? Do you know what
- 7:51Speaker 1: I'm talking about? Berkeley's top shot technique, buzzby? I guess
- 7:57Speaker 1: it's buzz Berkeley, buzzby Burkeley. What's Berkeley's first name? Joel?
- 8:01Speaker 1: Can you find that? So he would do those top
- 8:06Speaker 1: shot down things and then an elaborate dance move so
- 8:09Speaker 1: you'd see it. So that's what that's what will.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Is is they do it Indiana Jones and the Temple
- 8:14Speaker 2: of Doom in the opening number. It's done in blazing saddles.
- 8:17Speaker 2: When they are busting through all the sets and stuff
- 8:21Speaker 2: like that at the end of the movie.
- 8:23Speaker 1: But I'm talking about in a moving dance sort of
- 8:25Speaker 1: seeing the beautiful choreography.
- 8:27Speaker 3: That's what it's done, That's what it's us for.
- 8:29Speaker 1: What's the Coen Brothers movie where where Scarlet Johansson rises
- 8:33Speaker 1: out of the water? Yeah? Wow, nice, Paul Joel.
- 8:39Speaker 3: They found Han Solo. They did the new Han Solo.
- 8:44Speaker 1: What are you talking about in Caesar?
- 8:47Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 8:47Speaker 1: Do you like him as Han Solo?
- 8:49Speaker 3: Yeah? Why not? Man?
- 8:50Speaker 1: Look man, other than you, Do you think that there's
- 8:53Speaker 1: a better choice for Han Solo out?
- 8:54Speaker 2: I do, But no, just and no disrespect to him,
- 8:57Speaker 2: because I think he did a great job. But I
- 8:59Speaker 2: think the person who should got the Han Solo character
- 9:01Speaker 2: as a dude that was in What's that story, Ansel
- 9:04Speaker 2: elgret Yeah, no, I think it should be Ansel el
- 9:08Speaker 2: Greck is a better Han Solo. I promise you, dude,
- 9:10Speaker 2: he's got.
- 9:11Speaker 3: I would have liked.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Andrew Andrew Garfield really really really really yeah really really yeah.
- 9:20Speaker 1: I went to some of the Oscar parties, saw lots
- 9:23Speaker 1: of famous people. I brought my friend Presston and we
- 9:28Speaker 1: when we left, I high fived him and I said,
- 9:31Speaker 1: I think we didn't embarrass ourselves in front of anyone,
- 9:36Speaker 1: you know, because Donald told that story of we've both
- 9:39Speaker 1: definitely embarrassed ourselves in front of.
- 9:41Speaker 3: Celebrities several times. I've done that.
- 9:44Speaker 1: But there were lots of cool actors and it's cool.
- 9:46Speaker 1: You know, you go to these parties and you get
- 9:48Speaker 1: to walk up to people you really admire and say, hey,
- 9:51Speaker 1: I just you know, sometimes you know them, sometimes you don't,
- 9:53Speaker 1: but you can say, like, hey, I you're That performance
- 9:57Speaker 1: was incredible, and that's the thing I like about it.
- 10:00Speaker 1: It's cool and I didn't How.
- 10:03Speaker 3: Does it feel to be doing that stuff again, that's
- 10:05Speaker 3: the question.
- 10:06Speaker 1: I felt great, it was a break, It felt great.
- 10:09Speaker 1: It felt great. I mean, yeah, obviously I have done
- 10:11Speaker 1: any of that since COVID, and it just felt cool.
- 10:13Speaker 3: You know.
- 10:14Speaker 1: I'm literally I still feel like the little kid in
- 10:16Speaker 1: the room who can't believe he's invited to the party.
- 10:19Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 10:19Speaker 1: So that's what's so fun about it is to look
- 10:21Speaker 1: around the room and go, oh my god, it's so
- 10:23Speaker 1: and so and so and so, and then you know,
- 10:26Speaker 1: my agent would like sometimes introduce me to some mega
- 10:29Speaker 1: person and that was cool, and we just had We
- 10:32Speaker 1: just had some good laughs, but mostly we were excited
- 10:34Speaker 1: that we escaped the party without embarrassing ourselves.
- 10:37Speaker 2: Biggest name you ran into that you were like, holy shit,
- 10:42Speaker 2: conversation be on point.
- 10:45Speaker 1: What I did see Leo? I did see I did
- 10:47Speaker 1: see Leo. But we didn't. We didn't have a long conversation.
- 10:51Speaker 1: We had a more of a fist bump, a fist doc.
- 10:54Speaker 3: If you will, you guys docked.
- 10:56Speaker 1: We didn't. Yeah, we had a we had a fist doc.
- 11:02Speaker 1: I spoke to Andrew Garfield, who I know a little bit,
- 11:05Speaker 1: and I and I went on on about of tictic
- 11:07Speaker 1: boom and I but I made sure Donald, I didn't
- 11:09Speaker 1: embarrass us. I know, I know, I know. I could
- 11:12Speaker 1: picture you over my shoulder being like, okay, buddy, back away,
- 11:17Speaker 1: but I did. But I did give Andrew Garfield some
- 11:20Speaker 1: love because I did think, truly that that performance was
- 11:23Speaker 1: fucking unbelievable and I think he's one of the best
- 11:26Speaker 1: there is. And I told him, anyway, let's get back
- 11:29Speaker 1: to our musical, Donald. Let's open with So we talked
- 11:33Speaker 1: about the opening number, which is incredible and just so
- 11:35Speaker 1: well written. Then we go into our Pooh song, which
- 11:40Speaker 1: is just so funny, and the choreography is so funny.
- 11:44Speaker 3: Yeah, we had kicking our heads in.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Hey, miss Miller, we just need a stool sample. So
- 11:52Speaker 2: if you think I'm just a nut, my.
- 11:57Speaker 3: Dear, you.
- 12:00Speaker 1: See, everything comes down to pooh.
- 12:04Speaker 3: This show really mean, should.
- 12:06Speaker 1: Really just be me and Donald singing all the songs.
- 12:08Speaker 2: For you guys, whether it's a tumor or a touch
- 12:12Speaker 2: of the flu.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Please, won't you pinch us off a big fat clue.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Our number one guess is your number two.
- 12:21Speaker 3: If there's no preestlide on match, please.
- 12:24Speaker 1: Everything comes down to do do do do Do Do
- 12:27Speaker 1: do do.
- 12:28Speaker 2: So there's a moment in that song that's very funny,
- 12:30Speaker 2: and that's the breakaway goes Mike check the pool, Yes,
- 12:33Speaker 2: Mike Schwartz as homeless guy through Pooh in my eye.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Check the check the poo. Minor his first him then
- 12:42Speaker 1: you ven you. But the way that the way that
- 12:48Speaker 1: Mike Schwartz.
- 12:49Speaker 2: Because if he doesn't have anything in his poo, you're
- 12:51Speaker 2: gonna be fine pretty much.
- 12:53Speaker 1: But the way that Mike Schwartz asked Minor his so
- 13:00Speaker 1: funny first is then you it may may gross it.
- 13:09Speaker 2: You know, you may see it used to be Originally
- 13:13Speaker 2: it was it may seem grows, it may be crass,
- 13:16Speaker 2: but we need to see what comes out of your Yes.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Some of the lyrics before that, it was a curly
- 13:24Speaker 1: or a letter J, as long as.
- 13:27Speaker 3: It's due yes, everything of that.
- 13:31Speaker 1: NBC put their foot down on describing fecal matter as
- 13:35Speaker 1: a letter J.
- 13:36Speaker 3: Or curly, curly, curly or a letter J.
- 13:39Speaker 1: It's just so funny. It's so funny what they allowed.
- 13:46Speaker 1: But they didn't allow a curly or a letter J.
- 13:58Speaker 3: How many letters js have you had?
- 14:00Speaker 6: No?
- 14:00Speaker 2: That's the truth though, think about it. I guess so
- 14:04Speaker 2: because it was in the song at one.
- 14:06Speaker 1: Point curly or a letter jay, as long as it seduced, yes,
- 14:13Speaker 1: and then we cheer. It was a bummer when we
- 14:15Speaker 1: get while we were when we get lyrics and they
- 14:18Speaker 1: were so funny. And then by the time we recorded,
- 14:20Speaker 1: we had to change some of them because NBC didn't
- 14:22Speaker 1: approve them.
- 14:23Speaker 2: Well, this episode is completely chopped up also, man like,
- 14:26Speaker 2: there were so many storylines that had.
- 14:28Speaker 3: Or it's amazings that had to go.
- 14:31Speaker 2: Yeah, that had to go because they wanted to get
- 14:33Speaker 2: all the songs in.
- 14:34Speaker 1: There's really only two plots. There's Carlos deciding whether she's
- 14:38Speaker 1: going to be a working mom and come back to
- 14:40Speaker 1: work or be a stay at home mom. And and uh,
- 14:44Speaker 1: Sarah's moving into her new house and doesn't want me
- 14:47Speaker 1: and doesn't want me to move in, and then and
- 14:49Speaker 1: then the woman of course who has a who has
- 14:52Speaker 1: an aneurysm that's causing her to hear people singing.
- 14:56Speaker 2: But but the thing that's taken the plot, that takes
- 14:58Speaker 2: over most of the shows we could is the music, obviously,
- 15:02Speaker 2: because we wanted to tell that story.
- 15:04Speaker 1: Are you okay? Are you all right? Now? There's a
- 15:07Speaker 1: they all have like a little bit of an homage
- 15:09Speaker 1: to a genre.
- 15:11Speaker 3: I was gonna ask you this.
- 15:12Speaker 1: Yeah, I see some more than others, but there you.
- 15:16Speaker 3: Name them where I will see how I do.
- 15:19Speaker 1: I wrote down some thoughts on it, so the blanks.
- 15:24Speaker 1: We're gonna miss your Carla, I don't know what do
- 15:25Speaker 1: you think that's an homage to? It's sort of like
- 15:27Speaker 1: a it's like a song from Greece kind of thing.
- 15:30Speaker 1: But there's a clear grease song later, but.
- 15:33Speaker 3: I'm not exactly sure what that is. We're gonna miss
- 15:35Speaker 3: your car maybe barbershop, barbershop quartet? Ish, you know what?
- 15:38Speaker 1: I mean right, that's such a good tune. I had
- 15:41Speaker 1: forgotten about.
- 15:41Speaker 3: We haven't gone.
- 15:45Speaker 2: It kind of sounds like a barbershop quartet.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Now when you come here, baby, it made the choice
- 15:54Speaker 1: to be at home and not at work. You that
- 15:57Speaker 1: was your entrance, dude. I had to like rewind and
- 15:59Speaker 1: watch it again.
- 16:00Speaker 2: It was so good, Thank you very much. A little
- 16:03Speaker 2: homage to uh, you know, what was your image? You know,
- 16:08Speaker 2: the king of pop back in the day?
- 16:11Speaker 1: Right, Oh yeah, oh yeah, yeah you did that. You
- 16:14Speaker 1: did that later when in Guy Love. But I know
- 16:19Speaker 1: it's not probably gonna happen. But I wish you'd do
- 16:22Speaker 1: a Broadway musical because.
- 16:24Speaker 2: They don't want me. Man, Ain't nobody offering me. No,
- 16:26Speaker 2: damn Broadway musicals.
- 16:27Speaker 3: They don't want me.
- 16:28Speaker 2: If they did want me, I would have done one
- 16:30Speaker 2: by now. Listen, man, you could talk, we could talk.
- 16:32Speaker 1: I auditioned from the one I did. They're not gonna,
- 16:35Speaker 1: they're not gonna do.
- 16:35Speaker 3: You auditioned for Bullets over Broadway? Yeah? Hell yeah, nice,
- 16:41Speaker 3: I'm gonna. I'm gonna tell you something.
- 16:43Speaker 1: Those go ahead, hold on, hold on? Is it? Is
- 16:45Speaker 1: it something that's really.
- 16:46Speaker 2: Let me ask you a question. When you auditioned for it?
- 16:49Speaker 2: Did you audition against other Broadway performers and stuff?
- 16:55Speaker 1: What I did was I didn't go to the actual audition.
- 16:58Speaker 1: I had to leave town and I was very terrified
- 17:02Speaker 1: to go in an audition, and so what I did
- 17:04Speaker 1: was I had a piano player come over my house
- 17:07Speaker 1: and we videotaped me singing the songs. That was the
- 17:11Speaker 1: first audition, was singing this song. And I then forgot
- 17:16Speaker 1: about it, like every actor should, because the best way
- 17:19Speaker 1: to get a part is to is to submit your
- 17:21Speaker 1: audition and never think about it again. So they call
- 17:24Speaker 1: you and I said, I'm never going to get this.
- 17:26Speaker 1: And then they called me and said Woody and Susan Stroman,
- 17:31Speaker 1: who directed it, really liked you now when you read
- 17:34Speaker 1: the scene. And then I had a second audition on
- 17:37Speaker 1: tape from LA and I read the scene and they
- 17:39Speaker 1: said they're going to do a workshop of it and
- 17:41Speaker 1: they want you to play the John Cusack part. It was,
- 17:44Speaker 1: you know, because it's based on a John Cusack movie,
- 17:47Speaker 1: Woody ol movie. And so I did the workshop and
- 17:51Speaker 1: then officially got the part. After the workshop. Did you
- 17:56Speaker 1: listen to any of that?
- 17:58Speaker 3: I did.
- 17:58Speaker 2: All I heard was you had like a boutique audition
- 18:01Speaker 2: and then another boutique audition.
- 18:03Speaker 1: No, I just videotaped myself, right, And then they were like,
- 18:06Speaker 1: it's no different than you videotaping yourself for a role
- 18:08Speaker 1: at home. I just didn't go in.
- 18:10Speaker 2: Now, Ain't nobody called me and asked me to videotape myself?
- 18:13Speaker 2: And this ship is what I'm trying to say. You
- 18:15Speaker 2: sitting here saying you should be a part of a
- 18:16Speaker 2: Broadway thing. They gotta want you to be a part
- 18:19Speaker 2: of the mother.
- 18:20Speaker 3: Things have to have. I can't just be like, you're right,
- 18:23Speaker 3: I'm now on Broadway everyone. It doesn't work that way.
- 18:26Speaker 1: Listen, do you have your agency has a theater department? Okay, yes,
- 18:31Speaker 1: you're gonna go to your theater agent and you're gonna say, hey,
- 18:33Speaker 1: theater agent, Zach Braf, the amazing actor, the amazing man
- 18:40Speaker 1: that he is, the amazing actor, director, singer, dancer says
- 18:46Speaker 1: star Broadway star says, I should do Broadway? Can you
- 18:50Speaker 1: can you if a musical that's right for me comes up,
- 18:53Speaker 1: can you flag it?
- 18:55Speaker 7: No?
- 18:56Speaker 3: Because here's a problem, Because then all of a sudden,
- 18:58Speaker 3: Shrek comes up and they're like, they want you to
- 19:00Speaker 3: play donkey, Donald, That's how it works. I see how
- 19:02Speaker 3: this shit happens. I see how this ship works. Zb
- 19:06Speaker 3: I know how this ship works.
- 19:08Speaker 1: I know how.
- 19:10Speaker 3: They don't call me and say, Yo, what.
- 19:11Speaker 2: Allen has the next freaking uh part in Bullets over Broadway.
- 19:16Speaker 2: They go, Donald, we want you to play Mufasa in
- 19:20Speaker 2: the Lion King.
- 19:21Speaker 3: That's how it goes. I know how this shit works.
- 19:23Speaker 3: What we can all be so lucky to play with.
- 19:26Speaker 1: I'd be there every night.
- 19:27Speaker 2: If you were a Mufasa, I would have to learn
- 19:30Speaker 2: how to fucking work puppets.
- 19:32Speaker 3: Man, I'm not good at that ship bro teers.
- 19:38Speaker 1: We're only they only audition puppeteers.
- 19:42Speaker 2: I mean, I saw the show. It was magical, like
- 19:44Speaker 2: it was. The puppetry was amazing. That was really the show.
- 19:48Speaker 3: Let's keep it out. We know the music we've seen
- 19:50Speaker 3: in the movie.
- 19:51Speaker 1: Right, we're gon gonna break.
- 19:53Speaker 3: I'm just saying I'm and when we come.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Back, we're gonna talk more about the legendary episode than
- 19:59Speaker 1: I'm so hot are proud to.
- 20:00Speaker 3: Be a part of.
- 20:02Speaker 1: We'll be right back and we're back. Go Donald, Go Donald, go, Donal.
- 20:20Speaker 2: I gotta I gotta tell you, man, I was very
- 20:23Speaker 2: happy to watch doctor Cox rap.
- 20:25Speaker 3: You know, that was kind of.
- 20:26Speaker 1: So that I believe is Gilbert and Sullivan, if I'm
- 20:29Speaker 1: not mistaken, that's sort of that. That's like Pirates of the.
- 20:31Speaker 3: Penzance, Pirates of the Penzance.
- 20:33Speaker 1: Yes, that was awesome. He killed it.
- 20:41Speaker 3: He did a great job.
- 20:42Speaker 1: And what about it all started with a penny There
- 20:49Speaker 1: was that I have never found before. Amazing, amazing, and
- 20:58Speaker 1: then he calls me a moose haired something.
- 21:01Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 21:02Speaker 1: I loved it. I loved it.
- 21:05Speaker 3: A lot of it was a lot of it was.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Very like there's no way she could yell at you,
- 21:12Speaker 2: and all of a sudden, you're he's going to give
- 21:14Speaker 2: her the surgery or the MRI that she wants, you know,
- 21:17Speaker 2: she yells at you to shut up, and then all
- 21:20Speaker 2: of a sudden she gets the MRI.
- 21:21Speaker 1: I well, I think you can complain. I mean I've
- 21:25Speaker 1: I've definitely like I had my back problems in there, like, oh,
- 21:29Speaker 1: you don't need a MRI. And I'm like, please for
- 21:30Speaker 1: the for the for the for the safety, for the
- 21:33Speaker 1: comfort of my mind.
- 21:36Speaker 3: But you pay for it though, no, it's.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Covered by insurance. I'm lucky enough in this country that
- 21:42Speaker 1: has a very messed up health system to be one
- 21:45Speaker 1: of the insured there. So anyway, yeah you can?
- 21:48Speaker 3: You can.
- 21:49Speaker 1: You can say, I mean your doctor economics, I'm sure
- 21:51Speaker 1: say no, but I've had a doctor say yes. I
- 21:55Speaker 1: think she could convince him and say please, for my
- 21:57Speaker 1: peace of mind, can I can you do the cat scan?
- 22:00Speaker 2: I did that with my colonoscopy. I was like, he
- 22:02Speaker 2: was like, you're too young, you don't need it yet.
- 22:03Speaker 2: I was like, please do it. I don't care.
- 22:05Speaker 1: You wanted you wanted that ship. And then while you're
- 22:08Speaker 1: doing it, you were like deeper he said, we don't
- 22:09Speaker 1: go any deeper and.
- 22:10Speaker 2: I was a sleep idiot. I was asleep. I got
- 22:13Speaker 2: the real deal, holy Field. You were like, deeper, listen,
- 22:17Speaker 2: everybody likes a little ass play. And anybody likes a
- 22:20Speaker 2: little ass play.
- 22:21Speaker 1: He was like, this is the girth of the camera.
- 22:23Speaker 3: Like you don't like a little ass play?
- 22:27Speaker 1: They were like, this is the girth of the camera tube,
- 22:29Speaker 1: and you're like, got anything girth?
- 22:30Speaker 3: Heer right now, everybody likes a little ass play. Don't
- 22:36Speaker 3: even act like you don't.
- 22:38Speaker 1: Can I have that? Daniel as one of the new
- 22:40Speaker 1: sounds sound and I'm gonna I'm gonna mark that one down,
- 22:43Speaker 1: thank you.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Please, do they do, whether it be taking a poop,
- 22:48Speaker 2: whether it be a finger, whether it be a tongue,
- 22:51Speaker 2: whether you know everybody likes a little ass play.
- 22:54Speaker 1: I need all of that, Daniel, for the my sound sake,
- 22:59Speaker 1: Just stop talking about your will is. We're talking about
- 23:07Speaker 1: what you're trying to get, what you're trying to do.
- 23:12Speaker 3: All right, we've already established what.
- 23:16Speaker 1: You know, what you're trying to get into. Okay, so
- 23:19Speaker 1: do not ok yeah, that's true, Yoda. I read something
- 23:24Speaker 1: online that I'm sorry I got excited about all my buttons.
- 23:29Speaker 3: You've read some line and what.
- 23:31Speaker 1: On Reddit they had this thread I always send you guys,
- 23:33Speaker 1: you and Joel these threads that I'm sure you don't read,
- 23:36Speaker 1: but it's like read. It had this thread that was
- 23:37Speaker 1: like what's your most unpopular Star Wars opinion or something
- 23:41Speaker 1: like that, and someone said, Yoda barely did the backwards
- 23:47Speaker 1: talking in the beginning, and then it became like out
- 23:50Speaker 1: of control.
- 23:51Speaker 3: Hm, oh wow, that's pretty good. I see it.
- 23:56Speaker 1: You see it. Joel's going through dialogue.
- 24:02Speaker 3: What do you say?
- 24:03Speaker 1: Yes? So when the song when the truth comes out
- 24:07Speaker 1: is sort of a lame is homage. Mm hmmm, hmmm, which.
- 24:11Speaker 3: I saw you?
- 24:13Speaker 1: Yes, it's that end of act one. Do you hit it?
- 24:17Speaker 9: No?
- 24:17Speaker 1: Actually it's a one more day end of Act one,
- 24:21Speaker 1: one more day but one. Yeah, the same thing, same
- 24:24Speaker 1: lame is big full company number, that kind of thing.
- 24:28Speaker 3: Mm hmm.
- 24:29Speaker 1: But I thought it was so well done. I mean,
- 24:32Speaker 1: did you get excited? I got so excited. All right,
- 24:35Speaker 1: this is the song I was talking about. I'm sure
- 24:42Speaker 1: you must be scared, not knowing what this test will
- 24:45Speaker 1: bring ahead. It could prove that you are crazy. Do
- 24:48Speaker 1: you still hear people sing?
- 24:50Speaker 3: Yep?
- 24:51Speaker 1: It's best to know the truth of that. I have
- 24:54Speaker 1: no doubt.
- 24:55Speaker 6: But you'll have to face the future when the truth
- 24:59Speaker 6: comes out. That's it's a waste of our time. But
- 25:03Speaker 6: at least you'll accept that she's medically fine.
- 25:05Speaker 5: You'll admit that she's.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Nuts, or I'll have to say that's thirty. Oh, it's
- 25:08Speaker 1: so good.
- 25:09Speaker 3: It's really good.
- 25:11Speaker 1: Can we play thirty of each songs?
- 25:12Speaker 4: You will, as long as you guys are analyzing the
- 25:16Speaker 4: song and talking about it specifically.
- 25:17Speaker 1: Yes, okay, well I'm learning something, but most importantly i'm
- 25:21Speaker 1: learning let's say the facts about me and you. You
- 25:29Speaker 1: specify it's a bop. No, I'm proud to call you
- 25:33Speaker 1: Chocolate Bear. The crowd will always talk and staff.
- 25:38Speaker 10: I feel exactly those feelings too, and that's why I
- 25:42Speaker 10: keep them inside fire. This can't bear those girls to
- 25:47Speaker 10: stay and sometimes excuse me, you're too high and explain
- 25:51Speaker 10: our guy love.
- 25:57Speaker 1: It's so beautiful now, mine, there's some funny ass ship
- 26:01Speaker 1: in that.
- 26:02Speaker 8: Now.
- 26:02Speaker 1: I mean, you're the only man who's ever been inside
- 26:06Speaker 1: of me, right, And I hold up my fist.
- 26:08Speaker 2: I took it, yeah, meaning insinuating that I fisted your butthole.
- 26:13Speaker 2: But I'm saying, I'm saying, dude, I just took your
- 26:17Speaker 2: stitches out.
- 26:17Speaker 3: I just put stitches.
- 26:18Speaker 1: Yeah. But I like, I like, I go and I go.
- 26:20Speaker 1: I like that I go. There's no need to clarify.
- 26:23Speaker 2: And oh no, are you sure cause you put your
- 26:30Speaker 2: fist up.
- 26:32Speaker 1: That ship was so funny. And my other favorite thing
- 26:35Speaker 1: is that when we go let's go and do this,
- 26:37Speaker 1: and we just go.
- 26:38Speaker 2: To the end of the bed, we go right to
- 26:40Speaker 2: the end of the bed.
- 26:44Speaker 3: I love how I point you guys were with that.
- 26:46Speaker 9: Also, the facial expressions you give, like both of you
- 26:49Speaker 9: throughout is so fun really selling.
- 26:51Speaker 3: The moment I love.
- 26:53Speaker 2: I hate to tell you this, but we were really
- 26:55Speaker 2: trying to sing the ship out of this song too.
- 26:58Speaker 2: Like we're sitting there like everybody looks at it like
- 27:00Speaker 2: it's a joke, because it obviously is a joke, and
- 27:02Speaker 2: we are making a joke, but we're sincerely trying to
- 27:07Speaker 2: fucking sing. Okay, this shit is real deal, holy Field.
- 27:11Speaker 2: This wasn't no fucking let that.
- 27:13Speaker 1: Was a pre record though Donald wasn't it.
- 27:15Speaker 3: Yeah, it was a prerecord, but we weren't in the
- 27:17Speaker 3: pre record.
- 27:18Speaker 1: They had bet they had mics on us too. So
- 27:19Speaker 1: when we said, like when Donald did his like and
- 27:24Speaker 1: then and then and then when I go when he
- 27:27Speaker 1: when he puts his hand, I go, no hands.
- 27:32Speaker 2: Dude, I still use no hands. I still use that
- 27:35Speaker 2: no hands baby, huggs.
- 27:37Speaker 3: Huggs.
- 27:38Speaker 1: Now, this is a much underappreciated, not talked about song
- 27:41Speaker 1: in this particular episode.
- 27:45Speaker 6: I've had it to hear, so let me make it
- 27:48Speaker 6: very clear, because I swear I'll never win again every
- 27:52Speaker 6: time that you profess that.
- 27:54Speaker 4: Come from Puerto Rico. Yes, for the last time, I'm Domitigan.
- 28:01Speaker 8: Don't make a big to do.
- 28:02Speaker 3: I was simply testing you.
- 28:04Speaker 1: Then why did you tell jd our.
- 28:06Speaker 5: Baby's blaxakany you know about me or no sex again?
- 28:14Speaker 1: Oh my god, that ship was amazing.
- 28:16Speaker 3: Your name is Carla. You're done that day? Yeah, I
- 28:22Speaker 3: sent you.
- 28:22Speaker 1: I emailed you all the lyrics, by the way, if
- 28:24Speaker 1: you wanted to reference them.
- 28:25Speaker 3: I love that song. That song.
- 28:27Speaker 2: I laughed so much when I first read that song
- 28:31Speaker 2: and we sang it, like, why'd you tell J d
- 28:33Speaker 2: our Baby's Blaxican?
- 28:35Speaker 1: Then? Why do you tell J d our Baby's Blaxican?
- 28:37Speaker 3: I think that's a great way to describe ethnic children.
- 28:43Speaker 3: What are you?
- 28:44Speaker 2: You know right away, I'm Blaxakin, half black, half Mexican.
- 28:48Speaker 2: That's a Blaxican baby, right there. Baby, that's a Blaxican baby.
- 28:51Speaker 2: That shit is hilarious to me. I laughed, So I
- 28:54Speaker 2: fed that ship.
- 28:55Speaker 7: Dude.
- 28:56Speaker 1: It was so funny. It was so funny. And the
- 29:00Speaker 1: lyrics I want to I think it's Deb before them.
- 29:04Speaker 1: I don't know, of course, it's all the writers, but Deb,
- 29:07Speaker 1: you are the head writer on this episode. The lyrics
- 29:10Speaker 1: are so funny and and you guys are just amazing,
- 29:14Speaker 1: Like I would you know? There's there was talk of
- 29:16Speaker 1: making a Scrubs musical.
- 29:19Speaker 3: Yeah, Brandon was trying, Randall Winston.
- 29:21Speaker 1: Was trying to develop it. I'm sure there'll probably be
- 29:23Speaker 1: one one day and we can go see it, and
- 29:26Speaker 1: I would, I would cheer.
- 29:27Speaker 3: You know, they made it clueless musical.
- 29:30Speaker 2: Uh and Dove Cameron played Chaer and did a wonderful job,
- 29:34Speaker 2: you know what I mean. Like Amy Heckling was involved
- 29:38Speaker 2: and directed it in everything, you know, I don't see
- 29:40Speaker 2: why they couldn't do a Scrubs musical.
- 29:43Speaker 3: And it doesn't even have to be this musical episode.
- 29:46Speaker 3: It could be any episode you.
- 29:47Speaker 1: Could well you would, you could have to.
- 29:51Speaker 3: It was only that's right. I get you.
- 29:53Speaker 1: You'd have to add a lot more songs because there's
- 29:56Speaker 1: not enough.
- 29:57Speaker 2: But you could create a whole brand new episode. Doesn't
- 30:00Speaker 2: necessarily have to be about someone hearing thing, even though
- 30:03Speaker 2: that works, and you know, make a I totally see
- 30:07Speaker 2: this happening, or see a version of this happening. I
- 30:10Speaker 2: don't necessarily see us in it, but I see it happening.
- 30:13Speaker 1: We're not gonna be in it. We're too old. There
- 30:16Speaker 1: has to be about young people.
- 30:17Speaker 3: Like if they did Screw, Like, that's what sucks if
- 30:20Speaker 3: they did Scrubs.
- 30:21Speaker 1: Now, how many fingers. Do you see call nine one emergency.
- 30:28Speaker 3: I'm not used to sing.
- 30:30Speaker 1: I'm really notice you'd like to hear thirty seconds?
- 30:34Speaker 3: Is there someone here with you?
- 30:38Speaker 1: Someone that we could talk to?
- 30:40Speaker 3: I said them by myself, saying.
- 30:54Speaker 1: That she would really be doing.
- 30:56Speaker 3: What the fuck is everybody saying? What the is going on? Saying?
- 31:03Speaker 1: You know, it'll be funny if the character hated musicals.
- 31:06Speaker 3: That'd be even better. Oh no, not another one.
- 31:12Speaker 1: Another one? No hands? All right? Then we get this
- 31:17Speaker 1: classic hold on, remember this one, Donald, hold on?
- 31:23Speaker 3: We need friends, never friends forever. We will always be true.
- 31:33Speaker 1: Friends. We gotta be friends forever. I'll always be there
- 31:40Speaker 1: for you.
- 31:41Speaker 3: Were rest close as the and the order.
- 31:45Speaker 1: We're best friends. Just like, why are you trying to
- 31:52Speaker 1: Sarah singing?
- 31:53Speaker 3: She sounds like a grimlin when you sing.
- 31:58Speaker 1: I love Sarah. Oh there's our girl. I love Sarah,
- 32:02Speaker 1: But I have to say, amongst her many talents, and
- 32:05Speaker 1: she has many talents, she's a phenomenal actress. She's beautiful,
- 32:10Speaker 1: she's so kind, she's an amazing mom. Singing is not
- 32:15Speaker 1: in her top six things.
- 32:20Speaker 2: No, I would say it's sports and singing that she's
- 32:23Speaker 2: probably well.
- 32:25Speaker 1: She can snowboard. I know that she's a good snowboarder
- 32:28Speaker 1: because she's keeting.
- 32:29Speaker 2: You know, Sarah was looking for a school sport when
- 32:33Speaker 2: she was younger and had to settle for shotput.
- 32:37Speaker 1: Can you imagine Sarah didn't shotput?
- 32:40Speaker 2: No, and the only reason why she got shot puts
- 32:42Speaker 2: because there wasn't enough interest.
- 32:48Speaker 1: Shotput is the dumbest sport.
- 32:50Speaker 3: No, I disagree, I disagree.
- 32:53Speaker 1: I'm sorry if you're into shotput, but can you imagine
- 32:55Speaker 1: putting that much time into shotput?
- 32:57Speaker 2: It's a technique that is yeah, and it goes nowhere.
- 33:02Speaker 2: The thing is, it comes after you after.
- 33:04Speaker 3: You've become the best shot pudder in the world.
- 33:07Speaker 1: This is not throwing with the ball where you spin around.
- 33:10Speaker 3: Come on, you want to take someone out from far away? Though?
- 33:14Speaker 3: Right right? An attack right right? There wasn't attack.
- 33:21Speaker 7: No.
- 33:21Speaker 1: Maybe if they added an element to shot put, like
- 33:23Speaker 1: hit a dude right.
- 33:28Speaker 3: Moving targets is a good idea, that's well, then it's
- 33:32Speaker 3: no longer.
- 33:33Speaker 1: What's another what's another funny one? Throwing the hammer then
- 33:37Speaker 1: throwing the hammer. Is that the same one or is that.
- 33:39Speaker 3: A different that's different?
- 33:41Speaker 1: There's javelin javelin Okay, Jain's is one's still in the Olympics.
- 33:48Speaker 1: And I've always and I've always discussed this. Oh that's
- 33:53Speaker 1: another dumb one. I'm sorry. Discus players heavy frisbee.
- 33:57Speaker 3: Yeah, what about what about Hackey Sack. That's an Olympics
- 34:03Speaker 3: on the Olympics.
- 34:03Speaker 1: That's just stoner.
- 34:04Speaker 2: Hacky Sack is in the Olympics. Hold on, Hackey Sack
- 34:07Speaker 2: has been in the Olympics before.
- 34:09Speaker 3: Look it up, No Jo, Yeah, it's not look it up.
- 34:12Speaker 1: But you know what I've always you know, who I've
- 34:13Speaker 1: always been jealous of is those people who can do
- 34:17Speaker 1: the stick thing. Hi ja running stick, running stick.
- 34:27Speaker 2: There you go, Oh my god, running stick.
- 34:35Speaker 1: I think pole vaulting is cool.
- 34:38Speaker 2: Oh yeah, v Coop Olympics twenty ten, Hacky Sack foot
- 34:43Speaker 2: it's crazy skills for Cooper Olympics.
- 34:45Speaker 1: I think this is simply at the Olympics.
- 34:46Speaker 3: I don't know if this is the street Hacky Sack.
- 34:53Speaker 3: I played it in the video game, dude, I know it.
- 34:55Speaker 1: Well, maybe in the video game it was.
- 34:57Speaker 3: And he was.
- 35:01Speaker 1: Wait, Joelle, I'm seeing a lot I digress. I'm seeing
- 35:03Speaker 1: a lot of love for the new Star Trek video game.
- 35:06Speaker 1: Dan and Joel and Dan Star Trek video game. There's
- 35:10Speaker 1: a new Star Trek video game out. I don't know
- 35:13Speaker 1: on which console, but for some reason it keeps coming
- 35:16Speaker 1: up in my feed saying it's getting good reviews.
- 35:20Speaker 3: Interesting, I have not seen a trailer.
- 35:24Speaker 1: Let me see star reviews. I said, said the best
- 35:26Speaker 1: video game ever to be made? About the property the
- 35:30Speaker 1: ip definitely? Are you intrigued? Yes, a little bit. And
- 35:35Speaker 1: the article I saw had had a image of the
- 35:39Speaker 1: spot character Soft surgeons friends and yeah, yeah, all right,
- 35:51Speaker 1: all right, well can you ask our friends at Ubisoft
- 35:54Speaker 1: to send me this bock game? Because I want to.
- 35:55Speaker 1: I think I might need to get into video game.
- 35:57Speaker 1: I have a little downtime.
- 35:59Speaker 2: Donald, come on, you want to get into dude, you
- 36:01Speaker 2: didn't want to fucking listen to me Zelda.
- 36:05Speaker 1: I don't think Zelda's gonna be my thing. I don't
- 36:06Speaker 1: want to have a I don't want to. I'm weigh
- 36:08Speaker 1: into more than natural, like like Hitman or the Cowboy
- 36:11Speaker 1: one you mentioned.
- 36:12Speaker 7: I like.
- 36:13Speaker 1: I Liketion too, Yeah, I just.
- 36:15Speaker 11: Do that on it was the story of that game
- 36:18Speaker 11: is so gripping, it's so so good.
- 36:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's more my speed. Now, I do
- 36:24Speaker 1: have the latest hit man and it made me really scared.
- 36:27Speaker 1: I was, I was, I really it was so realistic
- 36:31Speaker 1: that I I was frightened.
- 36:33Speaker 7: I was.
- 36:34Speaker 1: I panicked.
- 36:36Speaker 3: Okay, it hasn't been in the Olympics, but okay.
- 36:40Speaker 1: Okay, that's just drived by the way. Okay, we're gonna
- 36:46Speaker 1: let the guest in in a second, but I want
- 36:47Speaker 1: to give a shout out to that you're going to
- 36:49Speaker 1: be Okay, that was more like a rent song. That's
- 36:51Speaker 1: what's going to happen everything.
- 36:54Speaker 12: Okay, five thousand, six hundred and ninety five thousand, because.
- 37:15Speaker 3: I got a little emotional.
- 37:22Speaker 1: Scaring so pretty, it's really lovely. This would not have
- 37:26Speaker 1: worked at all if all of these creative groups didn't
- 37:29Speaker 1: come together.
- 37:30Speaker 2: It's all I kept thinking about was how many of
- 37:33Speaker 2: these dancers were in La La Land.
- 37:35Speaker 1: A lot of those dancers are all the background people
- 37:39Speaker 1: were professional dancers, and well, keep in mind, this is
- 37:42Speaker 1: twenty I don't know if it's twenty how many years ago.
- 37:45Speaker 1: It was two thousand and six. I'm bad at Matthew
- 37:48Speaker 1: sixteen years ago. So some of them may have retired
- 37:50Speaker 1: but were in La La Land.
- 37:53Speaker 3: Okay, don't yell about some of them even sang in
- 37:55Speaker 3: La La Land. Listen, Candice sang, well.
- 37:59Speaker 1: I'm gonna say that Donald found Donald's connection to this
- 38:02Speaker 1: was trying to figure out how many people from this
- 38:06Speaker 1: may have been in Lalla Land.
- 38:07Speaker 3: That's right. I think about that day because this is
- 38:11Speaker 3: this is the opening number all over again. I met.
- 38:15Speaker 3: I left him at a Grayhound station western Santa Fe.
- 38:19Speaker 3: We were seventeen and he was young, and it was true.
- 38:25Speaker 3: I knew what I had to do.
- 38:28Speaker 1: I'm telling you didn't even give him a chance to
- 38:30Speaker 1: come to Paris. Give him a chance. There was jazz
- 38:33Speaker 1: clubs in Paris, jazz club jazz in Paris. Yeah, why
- 38:37Speaker 1: can't why not invite us?
- 38:39Speaker 3: Is huge in Paris?
- 38:41Speaker 1: Yeah, z we have we have this insane connection. Why
- 38:45Speaker 1: don't you come work?
- 38:46Speaker 3: Did you ever watch the Aristocrats? Did you ever watch
- 38:49Speaker 3: the Aristocrats?
- 38:51Speaker 2: Or freaking Cruela Deville the one hundred and one Dalmatians
- 38:54Speaker 2: jazz was huge, Cruella.
- 38:56Speaker 1: Over Okay, that's a weird reference, but I just want
- 38:59Speaker 1: to say that there's no reason that he couldn't have
- 39:03Speaker 1: gone to Paris. All right, let's go to break and
- 39:06Speaker 1: when we come back, we're gonna have a guest, and
- 39:07Speaker 1: they better have a good musical question Joelle or I'm.
- 39:12Speaker 3: He could have went to Paris with them. Yeah, we'll
- 39:14Speaker 3: be back. We got We're bad. We're back. Welcome to
- 39:29Speaker 3: the show.
- 39:31Speaker 1: All right, kids, we're back. Let's bring in the caller.
- 39:35Speaker 1: I'm so excited we did. We missed a caller last week.
- 39:37Speaker 1: I apologize. It was my fault. And now we have
- 39:39Speaker 1: a caller. Let's do it.
- 39:46Speaker 5: We can talk to you know, like a bather, smoke
- 39:50Speaker 5: some maybe talking about the episode. So come on, let's
- 39:56Speaker 5: get the show on, ladies.
- 40:00Speaker 3: And gentle amount. Giving up for Ryan and.
- 40:03Speaker 1: Jenny before you even say anything, I just wanted the
- 40:15Speaker 1: audience to know that they couldn't have a more perfect
- 40:18Speaker 1: background for this podcast. One is a poster of Star Wars,
- 40:22Speaker 1: and one is a poster of Cosette and lay Misrob
- 40:26Speaker 1: And you get us. You get us. You guys should
- 40:32Speaker 1: just come before you even speak. You should just join
- 40:34Speaker 1: the show as regular co hosts because you understand us.
- 40:40Speaker 3: OK. Care if I should die now she goes across
- 40:44Speaker 3: the sea. Life without Cosette means nothing at all if
- 40:51Speaker 3: I were to fall.
- 41:00Speaker 1: All right, Hi, guys, welcome to the program. We obviously
- 41:03Speaker 1: have shared interests. Tell us about yourselves and how Joel
- 41:08Speaker 1: chose you. What did you write? You must have written
- 41:10Speaker 1: something juicy.
- 41:12Speaker 8: I don't know about juicy. You know, we've been fans
- 41:16Speaker 8: of the pump.
- 41:16Speaker 3: He sound like Elvis Man.
- 41:18Speaker 1: He came in smooth, and it didn't he he came
- 41:20Speaker 1: in real smooth.
- 41:21Speaker 3: But okay, Ryan, I don't know. I don't know about it.
- 41:26Speaker 1: I don't know about all that. But I'll tell you
- 41:28Speaker 1: I did have a I did have a brief call
- 41:30Speaker 1: with Joel and how much I.
- 41:36Speaker 8: Was You want to get get that?
- 41:43Speaker 7: Get that recorded for me and so I can play
- 41:45Speaker 7: my students and up my street credit a little bit.
- 41:46Speaker 8: That because.
- 41:49Speaker 1: Send an email, I asked Joel to hop on the phone.
- 41:56Speaker 7: So now I've got and I've gotten, you know, with
- 41:59Speaker 7: the beard. It's a bit different, but a lot of
- 42:01Speaker 7: my life I've been given the You look a little
- 42:04Speaker 7: like Zach Braff, and now I've got Nack doing an
- 42:06Speaker 7: impression of me.
- 42:07Speaker 8: That's pretty surreal.
- 42:08Speaker 1: Well, you're going to have it because this podcast will
- 42:10Speaker 1: be out there for all the world and you can
- 42:12Speaker 1: make it your ring tone. Right, all right, guys, what's
- 42:16Speaker 1: your question? Go ahead and tell us. Tell us about yourself.
- 42:19Speaker 7: So we we wrote in because you know, asides from
- 42:22Speaker 7: being great fans of the show, we thought it would
- 42:26Speaker 7: be really neat if you had a couple of music
- 42:28Speaker 7: teachers on too.
- 42:30Speaker 8: For the my musical episode.
- 42:32Speaker 1: It's one of them, is good? All right, Joe, I'm
- 42:34Speaker 1: not going to have to flip the desk, thank god.
- 42:36Speaker 3: Thank god, thank god.
- 42:38Speaker 1: You're both music teachers.
- 42:39Speaker 7: And for what?
- 42:40Speaker 1: For what grade.
- 42:42Speaker 7: It?
- 42:43Speaker 1: Or I guess what ages?
- 42:45Speaker 7: Yeah, I'm a middle school teacher. I teach band and
- 42:47Speaker 7: orchestra and jazz, and I do a.
- 42:50Speaker 4: Choir with six through twelve grade six through twelve.
- 42:53Speaker 1: My god, is it as fun as it seems on
- 42:55Speaker 1: Glee because it just looks like they're having such a
- 42:58Speaker 1: good time.
- 42:59Speaker 4: I can't stand Glee because it's so not real. I
- 43:04Speaker 4: love the music. The music of it is really really great.
- 43:07Speaker 9: And I've done some of those arrangers arrangements and with
- 43:09Speaker 9: my groups before, so there's that's.
- 43:11Speaker 1: Always You must have a kid, both of you who
- 43:14Speaker 1: you I imagine this is exciting when so many of
- 43:17Speaker 1: the children have good talent and average talent, and it's
- 43:20Speaker 1: exist they're they're living their best selves because they're expressing
- 43:23Speaker 1: themselves through music and song. But it must be so
- 43:26Speaker 1: thrilling when you go, oh my god, we got one
- 43:29Speaker 1: on the hook. We got a kid that's extra special.
- 43:33Speaker 8: Got a few of those.
- 43:34Speaker 7: And the really rewarding part is when that that creates
- 43:39Speaker 7: a feedback loop with other kids and they see that
- 43:42Speaker 7: passion and it becomes contagious.
- 43:45Speaker 1: They get inspired. They go, I want to be as
- 43:47Speaker 1: good as so and so right very much.
- 43:49Speaker 4: It's fun to watch.
- 43:50Speaker 1: Oh, I want to I want to be a teacher.
- 43:52Speaker 3: Donald, you are a teacher.
- 43:55Speaker 1: I occasionally would go to Northwestern where I went to college,
- 43:57Speaker 1: and uh and and give a try and give you know,
- 44:01Speaker 1: speeches and give back to the to the college kids
- 44:04Speaker 1: in some way, which I should do again because I
- 44:06Speaker 1: got so much out of it. It's so fulfilling. But
- 44:09Speaker 1: but you're doing this at such a young age where
- 44:11Speaker 1: you really shape your These kids who are in your classes,
- 44:14Speaker 1: they must love it. This is probably their favorite class, right.
- 44:17Speaker 8: For many of them.
- 44:18Speaker 7: Yeah, for for so many it's the reason that they
- 44:21Speaker 7: choose to come to school, you know, particularly now when
- 44:24Speaker 7: we're all going through various struggles over the last couple
- 44:28Speaker 7: of years. If you can tell a kid, hey, you know,
- 44:30Speaker 7: we'll get you out of a textbook and we'll get
- 44:31Speaker 7: you out of, you know, all the rigors of your
- 44:35Speaker 7: typical subjects, and you can come in and create and
- 44:37Speaker 7: and be who you are and be accepted for who
- 44:39Speaker 7: you are.
- 44:40Speaker 8: And that's that's mostly mostly what everybody needs.
- 44:45Speaker 1: How are you as a teacher? Are you able to
- 44:50Speaker 1: teach any instrument? I mean, how does that work?
- 44:52Speaker 8: That's a good question.
- 44:53Speaker 7: So we actually the short answers, Yes, we compliment each
- 44:57Speaker 7: other pretty well. Part of our CLUDI training is learning
- 45:01Speaker 7: how to play all these instruments, so we can be
- 45:03Speaker 7: effective instructors. But whatever I don't play, she plays, and
- 45:07Speaker 7: vice versa. So it's sort of just it worked out.
- 45:10Speaker 1: Are there kids in your class that play any of
- 45:12Speaker 1: the instruments better than you?
- 45:15Speaker 8: That's the end goal, That's what I would like.
- 45:18Speaker 1: Yeah, they will eventually, eventually, they will eventually. I just
- 45:23Speaker 1: wondered if there's anyone who's like a mega standout.
- 45:26Speaker 8: They definitely have a few. Absolutely.
- 45:29Speaker 3: I love that.
- 45:29Speaker 2: I love that you're sharing music because it can be
- 45:32Speaker 2: taught in so many ways. There's so many instruments, there's
- 45:35Speaker 2: so many ways to use your voice, there's so many
- 45:38Speaker 2: ways to be musical and you know, just opening the
- 45:42Speaker 2: door for someone like you guys are talking about. Yeah,
- 45:47Speaker 2: sure there's standouts, but there's going to be somebody that
- 45:49Speaker 2: takes what you teach them and take it to a
- 45:52Speaker 2: level that you guys never expected to ever ever see.
- 45:56Speaker 1: And the impact you're going to have on these children
- 45:58Speaker 1: because of course some of course a few may pursue music,
- 46:01Speaker 1: but also the skill sets you're giving them to stand
- 46:04Speaker 1: in front of an audience, to have the courage to
- 46:08Speaker 1: put themselves out there, to perform, to work with each other.
- 46:12Speaker 1: I mean, think of all the different skill set you know,
- 46:15Speaker 1: you think about all the bullshit. There's an old pul
- 46:18Speaker 1: Simon lyric. When I think back on all the crap
- 46:21Speaker 1: I learned in high school, it's a wonder I can
- 46:24Speaker 1: think at all. And you know, there's a lot of
- 46:27Speaker 1: stuff you learned that you're like, why the fuck did
- 46:30Speaker 1: I learned that? I would have rather learned how to
- 46:32Speaker 1: fix my car. I'd rather learn how to do my taxes.
- 46:35Speaker 1: I'd rather learn how to play a fucking instrument, for
- 46:37Speaker 1: the love of God. So my point is is that
- 46:42Speaker 1: you're teaching them a skill set that isn't just singing
- 46:45Speaker 1: and or playing an instrument. It's collaborating with their peers,
- 46:50Speaker 1: having the courage to stand in front of a group,
- 46:53Speaker 1: you know. So that's so important anytime.
- 46:56Speaker 8: You want to come on by and give the pitch man.
- 46:58Speaker 3: We learn a lot of She's like, you guys are
- 47:01Speaker 3: doing good on your own. It's where are you?
- 47:03Speaker 1: Where are you? Where?
- 47:04Speaker 3: Where is this happen?
- 47:06Speaker 7: We live in a very little town called Burn, Indiana,
- 47:09Speaker 7: near the Fort Wayne area.
- 47:11Speaker 8: And I teach him fore and she's here in town.
- 47:13Speaker 9: He's from Chicago and I'm from Ohio, and we kind
- 47:16Speaker 9: of ended up in the middle Fort Wade, Indiana.
- 47:18Speaker 3: In the middle.
- 47:19Speaker 2: We have a friend that was on a show about
- 47:21Speaker 2: the middle Indiana, Neil Flynn Neil Flynn Indiana. To consider
- 47:29Speaker 2: the middle well.
- 47:30Speaker 4: That's what that's where the show takes place, isn't it.
- 47:33Speaker 3: Oh, I guess it's a middle class that they're talking
- 47:35Speaker 3: about in that one.
- 47:36Speaker 1: Why I think, Yes, I think they're referencing being.
- 47:40Speaker 3: But not in the middle of the country, because the
- 47:42Speaker 3: middle of the country isn't I don't know.
- 47:45Speaker 1: I don't know, all right, So you guys have a
- 47:55Speaker 1: question for us?
- 47:56Speaker 7: Yes, absolutely, We kind of had a thought we'd start
- 47:59Speaker 7: with a fun one, you know for my musical.
- 48:02Speaker 8: You guys turned the sitcom Scrubs into a musical. What
- 48:08Speaker 8: musical would you then try to turn into a sitcom?
- 48:11Speaker 8: And who would be cast?
- 48:14Speaker 3: Oh shit? Wow? If I could turn a musical into
- 48:21Speaker 3: a sitcom, that's a tough one. They do it a lot,
- 48:26Speaker 3: you know, uh he ish if.
- 48:31Speaker 2: Okay, so let's go Disney musicals because that's probably ones
- 48:34Speaker 2: that are easily viewed. Like they did Cinderella and they
- 48:37Speaker 2: made it so it wasn't a musical and that worked
- 48:39Speaker 2: kind of. I guess any of those fairy tales could work,
- 48:43Speaker 2: uh not as musical, but if you like talking traditional Broadway,
- 48:48Speaker 2: that's way more verse than that.
- 48:51Speaker 1: Yeah, Donald just knows Disney musicals. I'm trying to think
- 48:53Speaker 1: of what would be a good What's a Something Rotten
- 48:58Speaker 1: was a great musical that I really loved. I know
- 49:02Speaker 1: this is sort of a weird reference because most people
- 49:04Speaker 1: won't get it unless you're a Broadway geek, But I
- 49:07Speaker 1: think that could make a good That would have made
- 49:10Speaker 1: a good series.
- 49:14Speaker 3: Noise Bringing the Funk would be a great live action series.
- 49:21Speaker 3: Just take out all the tapping and all the music
- 49:24Speaker 3: and just have people talk.
- 49:26Speaker 8: Oh my gosh, he's down.
- 49:33Speaker 7: Well, then what if you were to take you know,
- 49:35Speaker 7: something that's been on TV, you know, if it was
- 49:38Speaker 7: mash or Cheers or I Love Lucy or you know,
- 49:40Speaker 7: something like that and put it on Broadway.
- 49:42Speaker 8: What would you what would you pick there?
- 49:44Speaker 3: Oh?
- 49:45Speaker 2: Well, that's I mean, you could do anything with that.
- 49:46Speaker 2: Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a great Broadway show. All
- 49:49Speaker 2: of these things, Like, when you really think about it,
- 49:51Speaker 2: any any any television you could turn into into a
- 49:55Speaker 2: musical because you're adding an extra exciting element.
- 49:59Speaker 1: And the Buffy I didn't see it, but Buffy did.
- 50:01Speaker 3: It's one of the best. It's one of the best TV. Yeah,
- 50:04Speaker 3: it's one of the best TVs ever. It's like this, uh,
- 50:07Speaker 3: this witch or not a witch. It's like a demon
- 50:10Speaker 3: comes to town or something like that and makes it
- 50:12Speaker 3: so everybody has to sing. The ship's scary too. It's
- 50:15Speaker 3: not like some there's a silent episode. Yo. You want
- 50:18Speaker 3: to talk about dope television. Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Yo,
- 50:22Speaker 3: that's some dope TV.
- 50:25Speaker 1: Joel is furiously gnawing her head.
- 50:29Speaker 3: I've never seen that, dude. It's good. Then, it's good,
- 50:34Speaker 3: like straight out of.
- 50:35Speaker 1: A vampire guy. As soon as you say vamp, I
- 50:38Speaker 1: don't have to get started.
- 50:40Speaker 2: This is the show that started it all though, you
- 50:42Speaker 2: know what I mean, Buffy the movie started all of
- 50:45Speaker 2: that ship and then and then the telephone.
- 50:47Speaker 1: Other than doctor Acula, I'm not much interested in in
- 50:50Speaker 1: anyone else's Doctor Acula.
- 50:52Speaker 3: Would be a great music doctor musical, great musical.
- 50:57Speaker 2: Jackson, the musical Alabama Jackson that I'd love to make
- 51:01Speaker 2: that musical.
- 51:02Speaker 3: Don't swim, Let's make it all right?
- 51:05Speaker 1: What's your next question?
- 51:08Speaker 7: We we love watching shows repeatedly and tracking character development
- 51:14Speaker 7: and evolution, you know, through those shows sometimes JD and Turk,
- 51:17Speaker 7: as you guys have said, are indistinguishable from Zach and Donald.
- 51:21Speaker 7: In what unexpected ways did these characters evolve during the show?
- 51:25Speaker 7: And I guess, in what unexpected ways did portraying these
- 51:28Speaker 7: characters change you as people?
- 51:30Speaker 1: It became it's a great question, and it became more
- 51:33Speaker 1: and more me and Donald because Bill would, like you know,
- 51:37Speaker 1: run out of storylines and he would just be like,
- 51:38Speaker 1: what did you and Donald do this weekend?
- 51:43Speaker 3: In the next episode?
- 51:48Speaker 1: No, we really, you know, because the characters. I think
- 51:50Speaker 1: one of the reasons we got the parts was we
- 51:52Speaker 1: were we were similar to the characters, really.
- 51:55Speaker 3: I mean and.
- 51:58Speaker 1: And then and then we leaned into it, and Bill
- 52:00Speaker 1: evolved the characters around us and around our strengths and
- 52:04Speaker 1: around what we found funny and thank god, you know
- 52:08Speaker 1: Bill and and we? Is that the way you say it?
- 52:11Speaker 1: We and Bill, Bill and Bill and us have the
- 52:13Speaker 1: same have the same sense of humor.
- 52:16Speaker 3: I'm not going to get upset about it.
- 52:17Speaker 1: I don't think that we here's a great question I'm
- 52:20Speaker 1: gonna build off of yours. Donald, Is there any way
- 52:24Speaker 1: any way that you're nothing like Turk?
- 52:31Speaker 3: No, I mean I'm not a doctor.
- 52:36Speaker 1: Like no, I'm I mean, I mean other than the obvious,
- 52:39Speaker 1: I mean, like personality wise, I think you're pretty.
- 52:43Speaker 12: I mean he is a family man, a family many
- 52:49Speaker 12: everything that I played in.
- 52:51Speaker 1: I don't like Appletini's and that upsets people. So I'm
- 52:54Speaker 1: sorry to have to tell you that I love sports
- 52:59Speaker 1: like I tweeted that. I once tweeted that, and every
- 53:02Speaker 1: someone wrote everything I believed is a lie.
- 53:07Speaker 8: That's a little.
- 53:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I I think that.
- 53:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 53:14Speaker 1: I think I think as you see from as you
- 53:17Speaker 1: hear from listening to the podcast, we are we are
- 53:19Speaker 1: quite similar. I think to the to the to the characters.
- 53:21Speaker 1: That's probably why the reasons this has been so popular
- 53:25Speaker 1: for people, because it's kind of like just chilling with
- 53:28Speaker 1: with with Jad and Turk in a lot of ways,
- 53:30Speaker 1: except we're allowed to curse now and and we we
- 53:35Speaker 1: sometimes get explicit, like when we had that couple on Jowell,
- 53:39Speaker 1: we're due for them to come back. We need to
- 53:41Speaker 1: check in see if there's been any evolution.
- 53:44Speaker 4: Mention them every single episode.
- 53:46Speaker 1: No, we don't know.
- 53:48Speaker 3: We don't. Fascinating maybe fascinating situation.
- 53:51Speaker 1: Maybe once a month. It's it's the most Jerry Springer
- 53:54Speaker 1: we ever got, and we're kind of not.
- 53:57Speaker 3: Don't don't, don't don't.
- 53:58Speaker 2: I don't think it's Jerry Springer. It's just the fascinating situation.
- 54:01Speaker 2: We both are into what they were talking about, and
- 54:05Speaker 2: so we want to hear more.
- 54:06Speaker 1: We're curious. They're very good guests, but you guys are better.
- 54:09Speaker 1: All Right, it's time for Fort Wayne, Indiana's favorite segment. Donald,
- 54:14Speaker 1: It's time to fix your lie. We have some new
- 54:23Speaker 1: sound effects to go along with that one you just heard.
- 54:26Speaker 1: I might try this one or I might try this one.
- 54:33Speaker 3: All right, that's Jerry, that's Jerry sprigger. That one is.
- 54:38Speaker 9: Listen to the last episode that you posted like this morning,
- 54:41Speaker 9: like whatever came up this.
- 54:43Speaker 1: Okay, so you've heard some of these sound effects.
- 54:48Speaker 8: Sound?
- 54:50Speaker 1: Yeah, pretty much. My whole desk is sound pads. Now,
- 54:54Speaker 1: all right, go ahead, how do we fix your life?
- 54:55Speaker 1: We're good at this. We're all rusty. You haven't had
- 54:57Speaker 1: a guest in a moment, so we're ready, Donald lean forward.
- 55:00Speaker 1: Here we go go like Donald lean foring like this, So.
- 55:04Speaker 7: Art fix your Life is on behalf of fine arts
- 55:07Speaker 7: teachers and students everywhere.
- 55:09Speaker 8: We feel that, you know, a lot of our students
- 55:12Speaker 8: are stressed and drained.
- 55:13Speaker 7: Mental health is suffering in our schools and the arts,
- 55:16Speaker 7: as we said earlier, give students and communities a creative
- 55:20Speaker 7: outlet and an escape.
- 55:21Speaker 8: But nationwide, a lot of these programs are facing cutbacks.
- 55:25Speaker 7: You both clearly had meaningful arts experiences as part of
- 55:29Speaker 7: your education. Drawing on those, how would you advocate for
- 55:33Speaker 7: fine art programs in schools or help us advocate?
- 55:37Speaker 1: Tell all? I mean, tell us, first of all, you've
- 55:39Speaker 1: got a whole fuck ton of people listening right now,
- 55:42Speaker 1: so tell us and them what to do. I know
- 55:48Speaker 1: that this is a problem. I know that schools are
- 55:50Speaker 1: cutting back on these programs because of budget cuts, particularly
- 55:54Speaker 1: public schools.
- 55:57Speaker 2: That's where the hits are really taking it, you know,
- 56:00Speaker 2: go to private because of all of the budget cuts
- 56:02Speaker 2: that are happening in the public schools. Which is it's
- 56:04Speaker 2: it's it's you know, for people that are in public
- 56:08Speaker 2: school and have to deal with some of these cutbacks,
- 56:11Speaker 2: it's very very scary. Like you know, the schools in
- 56:14Speaker 2: La there's a nurse that comes once a month, you
- 56:16Speaker 2: know what I mean, there's no nurse stationed in schools,
- 56:19Speaker 2: So if your child has a nut allergy, or if
- 56:21Speaker 2: something happens and a nurse just doesn't happen to be
- 56:24Speaker 2: there that day. You know, it's like there's so many
- 56:26Speaker 2: there's so many things, Jim, that's that's that's on its
- 56:30Speaker 2: way out the door, you know what I mean, Physical
- 56:33Speaker 2: physical education that's out the door, you know. And music
- 56:37Speaker 2: that you know, we've been fighting for music for how
- 56:39Speaker 2: long now and and and it still can't you know,
- 56:42Speaker 2: the bill still can't get passed to keep music in
- 56:45Speaker 2: all schools. It's such a it's so it's draining, especially
- 56:50Speaker 2: for someone who's in the arts. You guys are in
- 56:52Speaker 2: the arts, and you're trying to teach the arts to kids.
- 56:55Speaker 2: I can't imagine all of the barriers, you know, Like,
- 56:59Speaker 2: I don't know what your school is like, but how
- 57:01Speaker 2: do you get music into the school like it? Maybe
- 57:03Speaker 2: if you tell people you know about the problems that
- 57:06Speaker 2: you're dealing with, maybe that'll help people.
- 57:08Speaker 3: Maybe that'll make people I want to invest.
- 57:10Speaker 1: What comes to my mind is is getting people to
- 57:13Speaker 1: show up to these these meetings, these budget meetings where
- 57:20Speaker 1: these decisions are made. I know they're all gone. Those
- 57:24Speaker 1: meetings or can get pretty wacky.
- 57:27Speaker 3: But if you have.
- 57:30Speaker 1: If you have people that come and can add, if
- 57:34Speaker 1: you can rally the people in the community whose children
- 57:36Speaker 1: have been affected positively by this, and especially not and
- 57:40Speaker 1: probably bizarrely not even just like, oh my god, these
- 57:43Speaker 1: amazing teachers made my son an incredible pianist or guitarist
- 57:49Speaker 1: or horn player. That that they've changed him. He's got confidence,
- 57:54Speaker 1: he's got he's got this, He's got that he has
- 57:57Speaker 1: friends who that he's never made before. Talking about the
- 57:59Speaker 1: impact little that rant I went on before, and having
- 58:03Speaker 1: people advocate for the budget appropriation towards towards that I
- 58:08Speaker 1: assume would be the best route, right I mean, unfortunately,
- 58:11Speaker 1: we trying to fix your life. But you guys know
- 58:13Speaker 1: the world of this better than we do.
- 58:15Speaker 9: Yeah, it's just it's it's so much more than just
- 58:19Speaker 9: I go to class and play an instrument for forty
- 58:22Speaker 9: five minutes and then leave like That's how a lot
- 58:24Speaker 9: of people see it. Even the other teachers sometimes see
- 58:26Speaker 9: it that way. But but the kids will tell you
- 58:29Speaker 9: also that that's not the case. And it's really hard
- 58:32Speaker 9: to convince anyone in the community sometimes or in communities
- 58:37Speaker 9: that it's it's not just that it's so much.
- 58:40Speaker 1: Well, well, these things get decided, you know, there are
- 58:43Speaker 1: I guess it's the school board or it's the city council.
- 58:46Speaker 1: I don't know. I'm sorry, I'm naive in this area,
- 58:48Speaker 1: but I would. I would. I would rally. If you're
- 58:51Speaker 1: facing this in your town, you're listening to these two
- 58:54Speaker 1: amazing music teachers, it would be about rallying people to
- 58:57Speaker 1: show up at those hearings and and and and give
- 59:01Speaker 1: testimonials and and I really discussed why it makes such
- 59:06Speaker 1: a difference. The other thing I know the public school
- 59:09Speaker 1: in my neighborhood does is they they fundraise to augment
- 59:13Speaker 1: the program with the parents because it just wouldn't. I
- 59:18Speaker 1: don't even know if it would exist without without hardcore
- 59:22Speaker 1: getting sponsors, getting you know, you know, that's why the
- 59:27Speaker 1: the school is outside is covered with like ads for
- 59:30Speaker 1: realtors and and and things because they've they've given money
- 59:35Speaker 1: to have their giant I'm a realtor in the neighborhood poster,
- 59:39Speaker 1: you know, anything like that that that's outside the box
- 59:43Speaker 1: that that raises, that helps raise the money. So the
- 59:45Speaker 1: program that's the only.
- 59:47Speaker 2: Way, that's the only way things are getting done is
- 59:49Speaker 2: parents have to get involved. Even though you're going to
- 59:51Speaker 2: a public school, you got to treat it like a
- 59:53Speaker 2: private school and put the money and invest back into
- 59:56Speaker 2: the school in order to get some of these programs going.
- 59:59Speaker 2: That's that's the honest to goodness truth. You can have
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: a you can have an ain't.
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: Gonna do it. They're trying to stop public broadcasting. Yo.
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: I'm just saying, man like, I don't want to get political.
- 1:00:10Speaker 3: I'm gonna shut the fuck up.
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: You can have you can have a fundraising a fundraising
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: concert where where you know, maybe you guys play a
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: little bit, maybe the kids play a little bit. Maybe
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: some of your adult friends who are like uh, you know,
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: really talented play and and and and then and then
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: the the children play, maybe some particular standouts have solos
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: and that kind of things just to just to and
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: then maybe even at the fundraiser, the kids share why
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: the program has meant so much to them. And then
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: you do, like you know, you do let you auction
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: off things like a personal piano lesson from one of
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: you guys, or you know, things like that, things that
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: are in the community. Thing you get people that you
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: get parents to donate things, and I don't know, I
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: know these are these aren't like like revolutionary ideas, but.
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: It's just tough when you don't have the instruments and
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: stuff like that to put on somebody shows. I know
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: that that's what happens a lot.
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: Also.
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: You know, well, I bet they could get a local
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: place to to donate some amps and some new instruments
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: and we're lucky. Yeah, they could say this this event
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: is sponsored by so and so's music rental place.
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: That'd be great.
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: That's actually a great idea, But it doesn't happen that
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: way all the time.
- 1:01:25Speaker 7: You know.
- 1:01:25Speaker 3: Sometimes kids have to share instruments. Yeah, right, and that sucks.
- 1:01:31Speaker 3: You don't want to share a recorder with somebody.
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: I don't want to share it. I don't want to
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: share all. We have to remember those sticks with the grooves.
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: Do you still have the sticks with the grooves on them? Yeah?
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: I remember that from my childhood. That was the first
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: thing they gave us with two sticks.
- 1:01:49Speaker 3: With the grooves of them. Oh yeah, like the rhythm. Yeah.
- 1:01:54Speaker 3: I was like, this is fun, this is well so
- 1:01:57Speaker 3: much by Daniel. What are you going to say? What
- 1:01:59Speaker 3: do you go?
- 1:02:00Speaker 11: It's I mean, it's it's a it's a you know.
- 1:02:03Speaker 11: I think playing to these strengths of things like social
- 1:02:05Speaker 11: media can also help. Like I see so much kind
- 1:02:08Speaker 11: of advocacy happen on things like TikTok right now because
- 1:02:11Speaker 11: people take in so much media and listen to so
- 1:02:13Speaker 11: much stuff via that and sharing the powers of music
- 1:02:16Speaker 11: and music teaching through things like TikTok and just you know,
- 1:02:19Speaker 11: I hate to put it this way, but like going
- 1:02:22Speaker 11: viral with teaching people about music is a way to
- 1:02:24Speaker 11: really show the power of teaching music in public schools
- 1:02:27Speaker 11: and how underfunded it is. So I think if you can,
- 1:02:29Speaker 11: just if you do a fundraiser, put videos of it
- 1:02:32Speaker 11: on TikTok, if you see kids that are, like, you know,
- 1:02:35Speaker 11: espousing the values of music teaching. Throw that on TikTok
- 1:02:38Speaker 11: as well, and just create a presence for yourself in
- 1:02:40Speaker 11: a social media that people are taking in all the time.
- 1:02:43Speaker 11: It's it's free, it's on your phone, and I think,
- 1:02:45Speaker 11: you know, that's a way that you can get yourself
- 1:02:46Speaker 11: out there.
- 1:02:47Speaker 3: That's smart.
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: Dale. And I also think, you know, not to be
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: a dead horse, but to really highlight because some parents
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: will be some parents will be like, Okay, great, I'm
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: glad he's having a good time, but he needs to
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: get a job. He's not gonna be a guitar player.
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: You need to highlight the ways that these classes are
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: are shaping them and and and and and making them
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: better young men and women, boys and girls whatever, in
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: ways that aren't even related to the instrument. You know,
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: I think that parents who aren't who are like, oh great,
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: I'm glad he likes it, but he's not going to
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: be a trombone player. You know that you're you're you're
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: explaining like, no, you don't understand the value this child
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: is getting out of his class. You know, Yeah, all right,
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: you're welcome, You're welcome. I don't know how well we
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: did that.
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: I mean, we didn't really help that much.
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: They helped us, they educated if anything.
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: Like I feel, I I I know, I know what
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: you're going through, and I I don't understand how this
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: is such a uh why this not how but why this.
- 1:03:48Speaker 3: Is such an issue? Music opens up so many doors
- 1:03:53Speaker 3: so much.
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: It's mathematical, there's so many things that you can teach
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: through music, and for some reason people don't think it's
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: it's it's useful at least a government doesn't think it's
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: useful as far as educational goes, and that just makes
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: no sense to me.
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: For me, most of most of my education was in
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: theater camp, but that's no different. It was a teacher
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: teaching me and I it's where all my self confidence
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: for public speaking and being in front of people came from.
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: All of it. I didn't learn that in a math class.
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: I didn't learn that in a in any other class.
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: I learned it from from having the the waivos to
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: get on stage in front of people and and have
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: a great teachers push me and encourage me, and and
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: it made me someone who could perform and speak in
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: front of people, which is an incredible skill to have
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: for whatever you're going to be in your life. You
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: know those aren't. That's not a skill set you're going
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: to learn in any other class, you know. True, I
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: don't say preachm.
- 1:05:00Speaker 3: Chuch.
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: You know what my favorite instrument is?
- 1:05:10Speaker 9: What?
- 1:05:10Speaker 3: Nobody gives a fuck what your favorite instrument is.
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: Nobody cares, No, one gives two jackass ships.
- 1:05:21Speaker 3: You honor me, You honor me.
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: I really like the obo?
- 1:05:26Speaker 8: Okay, yeah, yes, beautiful and done well.
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: It's beautiful when done well, Yes, yes, I I like
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: you hear it and scores a bunch, and I like
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: music movie scores and a well placed obo is it
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: is beautiful. Let's go out on that note. How can
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: you beat the sentence? A well placed obo's so beautiful?
- 1:05:49Speaker 3: I think, I think? What do you want to say?
- 1:05:52Speaker 4: I was just wondering.
- 1:05:53Speaker 9: I wondered if either of you play any instruments at all,
- 1:05:56Speaker 9: because I don't.
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: I don't play the skin flute.
- 1:06:00Speaker 4: She's kind of open.
- 1:06:02Speaker 8: Should open that door.
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: And on that note, passic seminary ras about show we.
- 1:06:14Speaker 5: Paid about a bunch of dots and nurses in Canada,
- 1:06:18Speaker 5: who knowing.
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: I said, here's the stories next all should know, so
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: gather round you here, up, gather round you here up.
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: Stuffy Show is at mm hmmm
