- 0:07Speaker 1: Oh, man. I don't know if I'm excited. Should I
- 0:09Speaker 1: be excited for this interview? I mean, one of my
- 0:11Speaker 1: former teammates, guy in the Hall of Fame, didn't get
- 0:14Speaker 1: invited to Cooperstown, not cool. One of the best third
- 0:17Speaker 1: basemen of all time. Adrian Beltre joining us today. Where
- 0:21Speaker 1: are you living at now?
- 0:22Speaker 2: Are you in L.A.? Yes, I'm in L.A. How are you, Adrian?
- 0:26Speaker 2: And how are you? How are you? Yeah, I'm down
- 0:29Speaker 2: in L.A., yes. Okay.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Okay, you got the fresh goatee, though, I see. You've
- 0:33Speaker 1: had that since you.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Were last here. Yeah, I just painted right now. Put
- 0:37Speaker 2: his under here so I can look better.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Was it getting gray like mine? Because mine's starting to
- 0:41Speaker 1: get gray. And I'm like, man.
- 0:42Speaker 2: That's right. I had to do it actually almost every week.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Gray is just like almost white already. Not even gray.
- 0:48Speaker 2: It's white already.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Yeah. All that stress. All that stress. All that stress.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Adrian Beltre was in the big leagues like 18, man.
- 0:56Speaker 1: All that grinding he did, Kratzy, you know, to get
- 0:59Speaker 1: to the big leagues.
- 1:03Speaker 2: You know this thing. Okay.
- 1:04Speaker 1: First time I ever saw Adrian Belcher. I don't even
- 1:07Speaker 1: know if he'll remember this story. 1997, he was in
- 1:10Speaker 1: Vero Beach with the Vero Beach Dodgers. You couldn't have been,
- 1:15Speaker 1: I don't know, 18 years old, 17, 18 years old.
- 1:16Speaker 1: I don't know how old you were. But they used
- 1:19Speaker 1: to not have a fence. Do you remember this? In
- 1:20Speaker 1: Vero Beach, it was just a hill, right? And if
- 1:23Speaker 1: you hit the ball over the hill, it was a
- 1:24Speaker 1: home run. It wasn't even a fence. It was a hill.
- 1:27Speaker 1: And you hit a ball, and Jock Jones was, I think,
- 1:29Speaker 1: our left fielder, right fielder. And he goes back, and
- 1:32Speaker 1: he hits off his glove and goes over the hill.
- 1:34Speaker 1: And they were like, home run. I'm like, that's not
- 1:35Speaker 1: a home run. They're like, oh, went over the hill.
- 1:38Speaker 1: There goes Beltre. Trot around the bases. I'm like, man,
- 1:41Speaker 1: I want to play in this league.
- 1:42Speaker 2: They home rules, man. Home rules.
- 1:46Speaker 1: And also, I got a lot of Beltre. But in 2004,
- 1:50Speaker 1: by the way, I was there. And you guys won
- 1:52Speaker 1: the division. Steve Finley, Grand Slam. The year he set
- 1:55Speaker 1: the home run record for the Dodgers at the time.
- 1:58Speaker 1: I think he hit 49. I hit 49, I think,
- 1:59Speaker 1: that year? 48.
- 2:01Speaker 2: 48.
- 2:02Speaker 1: 48, 48. So I was on the Giants. You guys
- 2:05Speaker 1: walk us off next to the last game. Then we
- 2:08Speaker 1: were playing, and we had to win, and the Astros
- 2:10Speaker 1: had to lose to get to the post, whatever. And
- 2:12Speaker 1: the Astros win because we're in L.A. And Jim Tracy,
- 2:15Speaker 1: I'll never forget this. I think Jim Tracy was y'all's manager.
- 2:17Speaker 1: I come up to bat to lead off the inning,
- 2:19Speaker 1: and he pulled y'all sons of bitches off the field
- 2:21Speaker 1: one at a time. One at a time. Every guy
- 2:25Speaker 1: got a standing ovation. This was back when you had,
- 2:26Speaker 1: and I'm standing there waiting for the pitch clock expired
- 2:29Speaker 1: like 20 times. And last but not least, Adrian Beltre,
- 2:32Speaker 1: standing ovation in Dodger Stadium. I'm like, man, this is
- 2:35Speaker 1: how the big leagues are. Like, you could just pull
- 2:37Speaker 1: dudes off in the middle of the game. Everyone gets
- 2:39Speaker 1: a standing ovation.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I understand. That was pretty cool for him to do.
- 2:43Speaker 2: It was not premeditated. He wanted to do it. And
- 2:46Speaker 2: especially that year, I was becoming a free agent. So
- 2:49Speaker 2: he thought it might be my last year with the Dodgers. So.
- 2:52Speaker 2: I'll get it why he did that. There was no
- 2:53Speaker 2: time limit at that time.
- 2:56Speaker 1: That's fair. That's fair. Anyways, all right, now let's get
- 2:59Speaker 1: into a little bit of your career. I've told this
- 3:01Speaker 1: story many times. Kratz knows this, dude. One of the
- 3:03Speaker 1: best teammates I ever had was Adrian Beltre. And I
- 3:06Speaker 1: say this about you, and I mean this with the
- 3:08Speaker 1: most sincerity I've ever said. You were the best I
- 3:12Speaker 1: had ever seen at running a clubhouse and keeping everybody together.
- 3:16Speaker 1: When I was in Texas with you, we had Darvish
- 3:18Speaker 1: from Japan. We had Elvis, who never showed up, from Venezuela.
- 3:22Speaker 1: We had Kinsler from, you know, where Kinsler's from. You
- 3:25Speaker 1: had me. You had all these guys. Beltre from Dominican.
- 3:28Speaker 1: And you were the best I had ever seen at
- 3:30Speaker 1: keeping everybody on the same page. What made you so
- 3:32Speaker 1: good at that?
- 3:34Speaker 2: I always believed that, you know, it takes a good
- 3:38Speaker 2: clubhouse to be able to win. And it doesn't matter
- 3:42Speaker 2: where you're from or where you are or where you
- 3:44Speaker 2: were born. I think that, you know, we all should
- 3:46Speaker 2: be put in for one thing, which is winning. And
- 3:49Speaker 2: I enjoy being in a clubhouse, man. I enjoy it
- 3:52Speaker 2: with my teammates. And I was trying to do my
- 3:55Speaker 2: best to keep that core together. And I think it
- 3:58Speaker 2: was easier just to have those guys, you know, you
- 4:00Speaker 2: and me and Elvis. I know Elvis would never shut up. And,
- 4:05Speaker 2: you know, having Darby with a different culture. But it
- 4:07Speaker 2: was a challenge at times, but it was– For me,
- 4:10Speaker 2: it was always trying to figure out how we can
- 4:11Speaker 2: make ourselves better and have that environment in the clubhouse
- 4:15Speaker 2: that we can actually enjoy each other and pull for
- 4:17Speaker 2: each other. And I think that was easier for me
- 4:19Speaker 2: around this year because we have good players and we
- 4:21Speaker 2: have good people too.
- 4:22Speaker 1: All right. Well, you knew that AJ was coming to
- 4:26Speaker 1: your team. Were you worried that he was going to
- 4:29Speaker 1: be a bad teammate because of all that you heard?
- 4:31Speaker 1: And how bad of a teammate was he when he
- 4:34Speaker 1: got there?
- 4:36Speaker 2: It's funny. You know what? Being honest, I think... AJ
- 4:40Speaker 2: had a bad rap for the players that didn't play
- 4:43Speaker 2: with him. When you play against him, you normally hate
- 4:45Speaker 2: the guy. But when you get to see him playing
- 4:48Speaker 2: every day and being in the clubhouse, you actually enjoy
- 4:51Speaker 2: playing with him. AJ, we had a little worry about
- 4:55Speaker 2: when he came in, but he was a professional. He
- 4:59Speaker 2: came out to play every day. It was no complaints.
- 5:03Speaker 2: He was direct. He can be direct. Sometimes he had
- 5:06Speaker 2: no filter. And sometimes some guys can take that. But,
- 5:09Speaker 2: you know, I think the teammate, he was a good teammate.
- 5:12Speaker 2: He was a guy that, you know, I enjoyed playing
- 5:14Speaker 2: with because you didn't see many catches back then playing
- 5:16Speaker 2: every day like Edge did. You know, he was a
- 5:18Speaker 2: great defensive player and offensive too. So I enjoyed playing
- 5:22Speaker 2: with him.
- 5:24Speaker 1: It was fun. Listen, I wish I could have come
- 5:26Speaker 1: back to Texas. I love that team, man. I loved you.
- 5:28Speaker 1: I loved Ian. I loved Elvis. I mean, you name it.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Every guy on that team was like Derek Holland. I mean,
- 5:35Speaker 1: all of them, it was like, man, I'm like, I
- 5:36Speaker 1: was like, man, I want to go back to Texas
- 5:38Speaker 1: so bad. Anyways, I mean, I appreciate the kind words, A.B.
- 5:41Speaker 1: I mean, you were one of my favorites of all time.
- 5:44Speaker 1: When you were in Texas, your first year, I got
- 5:47Speaker 1: so many Beltre stories. We can't even, we're going to
- 5:50Speaker 1: have to, we might have to go extra here with
- 5:51Speaker 1: you because I love the Beltre stories.
- 5:54Speaker 3: Hey, today's episode is presented by the ASPCA Pet Health
- 5:58Speaker 3: Insurance Program. Krath, we love our pups.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Yes, I love my mini golden doodle, Bella.
- 6:04Speaker 1: But you can't miss this opportunity, just like Bella misses
- 6:07Speaker 1: the ball when you bounce it to her.

- 6:51Speaker 3: not an insurer and is not engaged in the business
- 6:53Speaker 3: of insurance.
- 6:55Speaker 1: When you get to Texas, right, was it your first
- 6:57Speaker 1: year when they went to the World Series? Was that 2011?
- 7:00Speaker 2: 11, second year. I went in 2010, and then we
- 7:03Speaker 2: went back again in 2011.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Which one was harder, the 10 one or the, I mean,
- 7:08Speaker 1: the 11 one had to be, right, gut-wrenching? Because I
- 7:11Speaker 1: was at that. That was the Nelson Cruz, the triple,
- 7:17Speaker 1: and then the walk-off homer game six, right?
- 7:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I was not there for 2010. I came in
- 7:22Speaker 2: in 11. Okay. That was your first series. I can't
- 7:27Speaker 2: imagine any other series that wasn't that one. I think
- 7:30Speaker 2: that that was the most painful time in my career.
- 7:35Speaker 2: I think that everybody had a miserable time after that
- 7:39Speaker 2: game six that we lost. And literally, I didn't sleep
- 7:43Speaker 2: for about two or three weeks just thinking about it.
- 7:45Speaker 2: We were literally two times one strike away from just
- 7:50Speaker 2: celebrating and it didn't happen. That was... It was terrible, but,
- 7:53Speaker 2: you know, it's baseball, and you have to try to
- 7:56Speaker 2: forget about it, but, you know, that was really, really bad.
- 8:00Speaker 2: But the worst, probably, yeah, worst time of my career.
- 8:03Speaker 2: I think that was the worst, being so close and
- 8:05Speaker 2: not getting the job done. Yeah.
- 8:09Speaker 1: I was at that World Series. I was working for Fox.
- 8:12Speaker 1: It was my first postseason working for Fox, and I'll
- 8:16Speaker 1: never forget, I was in the outfield, our thing was
- 8:18Speaker 1: in left center field, and you could see the Rangers
- 8:20Speaker 1: bullpen down the left field line, and there was two
- 8:24Speaker 1: outs in the night, and I'm not going to say
- 8:26Speaker 1: the players' names, there was two players on the Rangers,
- 8:28Speaker 1: and the fans were wearing them out, and they just
- 8:30Speaker 1: started giving the Aaron Rodgers title, and then David Freese
- 8:34Speaker 1: got the hit, and I'm like, oh no, that did
- 8:36Speaker 1: not just happen. I ain't going to mention their names,
- 8:39Speaker 1: but I'm just like, oh no, they just jinxed the
- 8:42Speaker 1: damn team, and then it happened, and I was like,
- 8:44Speaker 1: oh yeah, I wish I did not see that, so
- 8:45Speaker 1: I'll I'm sorry.
- 8:47Speaker 2: A lot of things went wrong in that game, man.
- 8:49Speaker 2: Not only that, but, you know, I think as a team,
- 8:51Speaker 2: we didn't really capitalize the things we were supposed to
- 8:55Speaker 2: be doing. I think the coaching staff screwed up. The
- 8:58Speaker 2: players screwed up. Because, you know, including myself, a lot
- 9:01Speaker 2: of people wanted to mention, you know, that Nelson should
- 9:04Speaker 2: be playing here or should we catch that ball? It
- 9:06Speaker 2: was a tough ball to catch. Yes, he should be
- 9:09Speaker 2: playing even though doubles. And normally, you know, in the NBA,
- 9:12Speaker 2: I normally kind of check where everybody's playing and make
- 9:14Speaker 2: sure that the coaches know where they're at. And at
- 9:17Speaker 2: that time, I became a little more aware about where
- 9:19Speaker 2: I was supposed to be playing. And I didn't check
- 9:21Speaker 2: the outfield. I normally do that. I check the outfield,
- 9:23Speaker 2: make sure they are in the right position. And I
- 9:25Speaker 2: just kept my mind, too. And the coaches, I guess,
- 9:27Speaker 2: missed it, too. And when David hit that ball, I
- 9:32Speaker 2: thought that it was right at Nelson Cruz. But then
- 9:36Speaker 2: I realized he was not playing deep enough. And, you know,
- 9:38Speaker 2: I just see the ball hit the wall that I
- 9:39Speaker 2: couldn't believe it. But even after that, you know, that
- 9:42Speaker 2: happened and we came back and and score two more
- 9:45Speaker 2: runs and they still come back and beat us. So
- 9:47Speaker 2: it's just, it was not meant to be. That's the
- 9:49Speaker 2: way I want to think about it.
- 9:51Speaker 1: You came on, you're smiling. Now you're not smiling. So
- 9:54Speaker 1: I want to get you back in a good, in
- 9:57Speaker 1: a good mood. You you finished, you finished at 39
- 10:00Speaker 1: years old. AJ and I both played till we were 40.
- 10:03Speaker 1: So you should have been able to play one more year.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Did you think about chasing that number 500? I think
- 10:10Speaker 1: you ended with 477. Was that something that you thought about?
- 10:14Speaker 1: AJ's talked about 2000 being important for him for hits.
- 10:18Speaker 1: Was that 500 important, or were you like, whew, that
- 10:22Speaker 1: is a long way away to play another year, maybe two?
- 10:26Speaker 2: No, it was not important for me. I was not
- 10:28Speaker 2: chasing that. I was not chasing numbers. I could easily
- 10:32Speaker 2: play another year, because they offered me a year being DH.
- 10:35Speaker 2: I just thought that it was time. It was time.
- 10:38Speaker 2: My body was kind of getting injured more often. My
- 10:42Speaker 2: kids were kind of growing too fast, and I just
- 10:46Speaker 2: wanted to go home already. I thought that... 21 season
- 10:49Speaker 2: was enough. And I knew that if I played one
- 10:51Speaker 2: more year and I focused on maybe hitting 20 or
- 10:53Speaker 2: whatever hormones I needed, I could have done it. And
- 10:56Speaker 2: a lot of my teammates got mad at me because
- 10:57Speaker 2: they wanted me to chase that. But I didn't play
- 11:00Speaker 2: for numbers. I didn't care about it. And I just
- 11:02Speaker 2: felt like it was time for me to come home.
- 11:04Speaker 2: And I was at peace with that.
- 11:07Speaker 1: By the way, I mean, 3,000 hits, 450 homers, 1,500 RBIs.
- 11:11Speaker 1: You chased plenty of numbers. Don't kid yourself, A.B. You
- 11:14Speaker 1: chased plenty of numbers. You might not have done it intentionally,
- 11:16Speaker 1: but you got plenty of numbers wrapped up. So, you know,
- 11:19Speaker 1: gold gloves, you check all the boxes. So let me
- 11:22Speaker 1: ask you this. You mentioned that your body broke down.
- 11:24Speaker 1: I was there for this, and I use this all
- 11:26Speaker 1: the time. I'm not trying to bring you down. I'm
- 11:28Speaker 1: just trying to tell Adrian Glowstrate stories.
- 11:30Speaker 2: It's still good.
- 11:31Speaker 1: The time you got hit in the Netherlands down there,
- 11:34Speaker 1: I was there, okay? And I use this example all
- 11:36Speaker 1: the time, and I tell people this, and kids like
- 11:39Speaker 1: my son, when he was playing, they would say, I
- 11:41Speaker 1: don't want to wear a cup. And I say, listen,
- 11:43Speaker 1: you know who Adrian Beltre was? And they say, yes.
- 11:45Speaker 1: I said, you think you got better hands than Adrian Beltre?
- 11:48Speaker 1: And they say, no. I said, I watched him get
- 11:50Speaker 1: hit in the nuts one time, and he had to
- 11:51Speaker 1: get surgery, so you better wear a damn cup. If
- 11:54Speaker 1: it can happen to him, it can happen to y'all,
- 11:56Speaker 1: so wear a cup. So do you want to talk.
- 11:58Speaker 2: I mean– Ow?
- 12:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:01Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, it was not smart. I would never
- 12:03Speaker 2: recommend it for kids not to do it. I think
- 12:06Speaker 2: cops should be prioritized, especially if you play third base.
- 12:11Speaker 2: But for me, I just didn't like playing. I just
- 12:13Speaker 2: didn't like wearing one. I felt like, you know, I
- 12:16Speaker 2: was good enough to just be good to defend my area.
- 12:24Speaker 2: And it happened once in 21 seasons. I think it's
- 12:27Speaker 2: a good, I mean, it's a good number. Um, and yes,
- 12:30Speaker 2: I got hit there, but I didn't, I didn't need
- 12:33Speaker 2: a surgery. I didn't get a surgery. It was, it was,
- 12:35Speaker 2: it was good to go in a couple of weeks. Um,
- 12:37Speaker 2: but yeah, I think that wasn't as smart, but I
- 12:39Speaker 2: just didn't enjoy playing with, uh, with the cup. I
- 12:43Speaker 2: just didn't like it. So I felt like, you know, I'm,
- 12:45Speaker 2: I can, I can take that risk.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Did you enjoy playing in the heat in Texas?
- 12:51Speaker 2: You know what? Uh, I, I rather play in the
- 12:54Speaker 2: heat than cold. I'm from Dominican Republic, tropical weather. And,
- 12:59Speaker 2: I don't mind the heat, yes. At times, Texas is
- 13:02Speaker 2: really extreme heat. You're talking about playing 115 degrees, and
- 13:10Speaker 2: Texas sometimes was overbearing a little bit, but I'd rather
- 13:12Speaker 2: be at 115 than 60 degrees.
- 13:17Speaker 1: By the way, y'all always did the IVs. I've never
- 13:20Speaker 1: seen a team– the whole team would go in before
- 13:23Speaker 1: games and do IVs. After BP, it was like– it
- 13:26Speaker 1: was their thing. And it worked for them.
- 13:28Speaker 2: I never did one. I never did one.
- 13:30Speaker 1: I never did one either, but a lot of those
- 13:31Speaker 1: guys would go in after BP and get IVs. I'm like, damn.
- 13:34Speaker 2: Elvis was there.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Elvis and Ian always, every day. That's because Elvis was
- 13:39Speaker 1: dehydrated from not the heat.
- 13:41Speaker 2: Long season.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Long season. Speaking of Elvis, you and him had a thing. Where,
- 13:46Speaker 1: you know, you couldn't touch your head, right? And you
- 13:48Speaker 1: guys would do the pop-up thing, which always worried me.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Because I'd see you go like this, and I'm like, no,
- 13:52Speaker 1: he's not going to catch it. And Elvis, you know,
- 13:55Speaker 1: he'd throw me off like the cameraman. Can you explain
- 13:57Speaker 1: about touching your head? Because that was such a thing
- 14:00Speaker 1: for a long time. Is there, because you weren't bald.
- 14:03Speaker 1: It's not like you were fully, you have hair, or
- 14:05Speaker 1: you had hair. I mean, I don't know right now.
- 14:07Speaker 2: I do have hair. I still have hair.
- 14:08Speaker 1: Yeah, I know.
- 14:10Speaker 2: I just didn't like it. I didn't like it. Since
- 14:12Speaker 2: I was a little kid, I didn't like my hair.
- 14:14Speaker 2: my head being touched, especially the front of it. You know,
- 14:17Speaker 2: the sides is fine. The front of it, I just
- 14:19Speaker 2: felt uncomfortable. And, but I never told anybody until I
- 14:24Speaker 2: played with, uh, Felix Hernandez in Seattle. He kind of
- 14:27Speaker 2: was touching my head. I told him, made the mistake
- 14:29Speaker 2: to tell them that I didn't like it. And then
- 14:31Speaker 2: after that, he would just, would do it all the time.
- 14:33Speaker 2: And that, that create, carry on to Boston. He told
- 14:36Speaker 2: Victor Martinez and Escudero that I didn't like. So they're
- 14:38Speaker 2: doing over there. And then I went to Texas and
- 14:41Speaker 2: I just carry on over. So, But the good thing,
- 14:43Speaker 2: they would do it when I hit a home run
- 14:45Speaker 2: and something good happened. And I would play with it.
- 14:47Speaker 2: You know, I kind of, I guess, allow it for
- 14:52Speaker 2: a little bit. But I really didn't like it. I
- 14:53Speaker 2: hated it.
- 14:55Speaker 1: You hated that.
- 14:56Speaker 2: I do. I still do.
- 14:58Speaker 1: You still hate it?
- 15:00Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. I don't like it.
- 15:01Speaker 1: Okay. Your one teammate, Michael Young. Do you remember what
- 15:04Speaker 1: he was deathly afraid of?
- 15:06Speaker 2: Because... Of you. Of course.
- 15:09Speaker 1: You teased him. So I think some people touching your
- 15:12Speaker 1: head was fair because you were a bully to Michael
- 15:16Speaker 1: Young because he was afraid of....
- 15:19Speaker 2: Clowns. But that's weird. Isn't it? It's a clown. But
- 15:26Speaker 2: it's weird.
- 15:27Speaker 1: If you don't like somebody touching your head, but then
- 15:28Speaker 1: you put on a clown wig and he gets angry...
- 15:33Speaker 1: then that's only fair game. Am I not right?
- 15:35Speaker 2: Yeah, you're right. You're right. You're right. But mostly it
- 15:38Speaker 2: was Elvis. I did it maybe once or twice because
- 15:41Speaker 2: I was forced to do it. But, you know, it
- 15:44Speaker 2: was mainly Elvis. Okay.
- 15:47Speaker 1: Okay. That's fair. That's true.
- 15:49Speaker 2: That's true.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Elvis was an instigator of all instigators. And by the way,
- 15:54Speaker 1: you mentioned your friendship with Felix Hernandez. I've never laughed
- 15:57Speaker 1: so hard at some of your abats with Felix, you
- 15:59Speaker 1: and Felix. They'd literally be– you all would be hitting
- 16:02Speaker 1: against each other, and in the bat, Felix would be
- 16:04Speaker 1: yelling at you from the mound, and you're yelling back.
- 16:06Speaker 1: I mean, the one swing, though, with you where you–
- 16:11Speaker 1: that was pretty funny.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Yeah, funny to you guys, not to me. When I'm
- 16:15Speaker 2: sitting there, fool.
- 16:19Speaker 1: Okay. Yeah, I mean, people haven't seen it. Just Google
- 16:23Speaker 1: Adrian Beltre versus Felix Hernandez, and there's a million clips
- 16:26Speaker 1: of it, but it was– It's over.
- 16:29Speaker 2: It was funny. Yeah, we started, you know, we were
- 16:32Speaker 2: teammates for about five years. And, you know, he was
- 16:35Speaker 2: like my little brother. And I kind of took it
- 16:38Speaker 2: under my wing. But I always teased him, hey, you know,
- 16:40Speaker 2: you think you're good. But when I face you, when
- 16:42Speaker 2: I get traded or I leave as a free agent,
- 16:44Speaker 2: I'm going to kick your butt. And we started just
- 16:47Speaker 2: like playing around. And then it ended up that I
- 16:49Speaker 2: left as a free agent and went to Boston. And
- 16:52Speaker 2: then it started, you know, I think two months before
- 16:54Speaker 2: we faced each other, we were already texting him. talking
- 16:57Speaker 2: all kind of crap about each other. And it just
- 17:00Speaker 2: became this thing that, you know, we didn't, obviously we
- 17:03Speaker 2: try to be professional, but we were trying to enjoy ourselves,
- 17:07Speaker 2: facing each other, because I literally just want to hit
- 17:09Speaker 2: home runs every time I'm facing. I want to take
- 17:11Speaker 2: it deep. That's what I wanted to do. And it
- 17:14Speaker 2: became this thing that, you know, people enjoy, we enjoy.
- 17:17Speaker 2: I look forward to it. He did too, because we
- 17:19Speaker 2: were just talking so much back and forth the whole,
- 17:22Speaker 2: the couple nights before. The whole game was just him
- 17:24Speaker 2: between me and, you know, it just became fun. And
- 17:27Speaker 2: I always wanted to not cross the line of being
- 17:31Speaker 2: respectful to our teammates. But, you know, I think people
- 17:34Speaker 2: enjoyed it and I enjoyed it. So it was fun.
- 17:38Speaker 3: No, we didn't plan this. And also, no, Kratz, we're
- 17:40Speaker 3: not wearing the same exact Mack Weldon shirts. I've got
- 17:43Speaker 3: a green and you've got the heather blue.
- 17:47Speaker 2: I do.
- 17:47Speaker 1: I do. And the whole array of colors. There's so
- 17:50Speaker 1: many to choose from with Mack Weldon. And not just
- 17:53Speaker 1: in your shirts. In everything that you get.
- 17:56Speaker 3: We also should talk about the Air Knit X collection.

- 18:37Speaker 1: All right, talk about being disrespectful. The guy, Hansel Rincon,
- 18:41Speaker 1: did you see the tilted hat with Doug Eddings and
- 18:45Speaker 1: they made him his hand?
- 18:46Speaker 2: I saw that.
- 18:47Speaker 1: A young man from the Dominican Republic making his debut.
- 18:51Speaker 1: What did you feel when you saw that? When you
- 18:52Speaker 1: saw that happen and how Doug Eddings handled it for
- 18:56Speaker 1: that young man's debut?
- 18:59Speaker 2: I mean, I don't have all the information. It's just
- 19:01Speaker 2: based on what media is saying. Allegedly, Doug was saying
- 19:07Speaker 2: that the catcher from the Rockies asked him to fix
- 19:12Speaker 2: his hat or where he was batting. And, you know,
- 19:17Speaker 2: he came out and denied it, that that never happened.
- 19:20Speaker 2: Sometimes just some umpire, they feel like They have to
- 19:25Speaker 2: have the power of the whole freaking field, and they
- 19:28Speaker 2: want to dictate whatever's going on. I just didn't think
- 19:33Speaker 2: he handled it right. He could have just said a
- 19:36Speaker 2: little different. They're not supposed to be straight. That's number one.
- 19:40Speaker 2: Some guys like to do a little sideways, but who cares?
- 19:43Speaker 2: Right now, people do a lot of things. If you
- 19:45Speaker 2: ask me, I will not do that. I will not
- 19:47Speaker 2: be okay. Guys haven't had to decide, but but, you know,
- 19:51Speaker 2: to each his own. But I just think that he
- 19:54Speaker 2: handled it a little differently. He shouldn't have done it.
- 19:58Speaker 2: At least he came out the next day and apologized
- 20:00Speaker 2: to the kid. But, you know, it should have been
- 20:03Speaker 2: that big of a deal for him to do that.
- 20:06Speaker 1: It was like when Jerry Young asked you to move
- 20:09Speaker 1: the on-deck circle, and you said no, and you moved it.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Jerry Davis. Sorry, sorry.
- 20:14Speaker 2: Another one.
- 20:14Speaker 1: If you haven't seen that, Google it. Adrian Beltre asked
- 20:17Speaker 1: to move the on-deck circle. It is absolutely hysterical. I mean,
- 20:21Speaker 1: you picked up the whole thing and moved it.
- 20:23Speaker 2: I'm surprised. You know what?
- 20:24Speaker 1: The only way it would have been better is if
- 20:25Speaker 1: you would have made, like, one of the bad boys
- 20:27Speaker 1: come out and say, hey, the umpire is asking me
- 20:30Speaker 1: to move this and had them help you move it. Because,
- 20:32Speaker 1: you know, you could have hurt your back moving that thing.
- 20:35Speaker 2: No, I was trying to be helpful, you know? And
- 20:38Speaker 2: the whole thing, the funny thing about it is that,
- 20:41Speaker 2: you know, we were, I was maybe about four to
- 20:45Speaker 2: five hits against from getting to 3,000. So we were
- 20:49Speaker 2: losing by eight, nine runs. We were getting, you know,
- 20:52Speaker 2: beat up at the time. And most of the fans
- 20:53Speaker 2: were just staying there to see if something happened. And,
- 20:57Speaker 2: you know, this was, I think it was 2017. I mean,
- 21:00Speaker 2: I've been in the league for 20 years. standing on
- 21:05Speaker 2: the same spot for 20 years, and not once have
- 21:09Speaker 2: ever any umpire mentioned to me, you have to be
- 21:13Speaker 2: on top of the under circle. And he picked that moment,
- 21:17Speaker 2: specifically that moment, to tell me that. And I go,
- 21:20Speaker 2: what are you talking about? He's telling me that I
- 21:23Speaker 2: have to be on top of the circle when everybody
- 21:26Speaker 2: else is not standing on top of it. And if
- 21:28Speaker 2: you look at that game, nobody has used that rule
- 21:32Speaker 2: that he said we're supposed to be on top of it.
- 21:34Speaker 2: So it was kind of weird for me. And I said,
- 21:36Speaker 2: you know what? Listen, I get it. I'm on this
- 21:39Speaker 2: side because I don't want to get hit. So if
- 21:42Speaker 2: all you want me is to be in trouble a bit,
- 21:45Speaker 2: all right, that's fine. So that's why I pulled the
- 21:47Speaker 2: circle where I wanted to be safe. And that was it.
- 21:50Speaker 2: He threw me out for that. I don't get it.
- 21:51Speaker 2: I was following rules. And I got thrown out of
- 21:53Speaker 2: the game anyway. So who knows?
- 21:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:56Speaker 1: You just wanted to go home. It was hot.
- 21:57Speaker 2: You wanted to go home.
- 21:58Speaker 1: It's cool. Hey, we all been ejected. We were taught
- 22:01Speaker 1: we want to go home. It happens, especially when you
- 22:03Speaker 1: get to 20 years, you can do whatever you want.
- 22:05Speaker 1: One of the things I did want to talk to
- 22:06Speaker 1: you about is this Baseball United trip you guys have
- 22:09Speaker 1: in Cancun. November 4th to 7th, in partnership with the
- 22:12Speaker 1: Tigres de Quintana Roo, one of Mexico's most historic professional
- 22:16Speaker 1: baseball franchises, 10 of our MLB legend co-owners to Cancun,
- 22:21Speaker 1: Mariano Rivera, Barry Larkin, Adrian Beltre, Robinson Cano, Bartolo Colon,
- 22:26Speaker 1: Felix Hernandez, Starling Marte, Elvis Andrews, Didi Gregorius, and Jair
- 22:31Speaker 1: Juergens for community initiatives, a celebrity golf tournament, celebrity softball game,
- 22:36Speaker 1: and premium cocktail event. Adrian, there's only one thing that's missing.
- 22:40Speaker 1: My invite. WTO.
- 22:41Speaker 2: Do you have any get it? It's coming.
- 22:44Speaker 1: No. I did check my spam folder. I apologize. My
- 22:48Speaker 1: spam folder must be full. So tell me about this event.
- 22:51Speaker 1: I want to hear all about this event.
- 22:53Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, we obviously, you know, at Baseball United,
- 22:56Speaker 2: we have a baseball league down in the UAE trying
- 22:59Speaker 2: to grow the game in that region. Over there, it's mainly,
- 23:04Speaker 2: you know, cricket and soccer. And we're trying to bring
- 23:08Speaker 2: the baseball over there in that region. And so far,
- 23:11Speaker 2: it's doing good. We had a successful season last year.
- 23:14Speaker 2: But because everything that's going on with the war this year,
- 23:17Speaker 2: so we kind of was pushed to potentially move it
- 23:20Speaker 2: back a little bit later. we still hoping maybe we
- 23:24Speaker 2: do something in March and down in Abu Dhabi or Dubai,
- 23:28Speaker 2: or if now we go back to November of, of
- 23:31Speaker 2: next year. But, you know, we were trying to keep
- 23:34Speaker 2: it afloat and, and we trying to create some different
- 23:38Speaker 2: events for fans and, and, and, you know, investors and
- 23:42Speaker 2: different people of our organization. So we created this little
- 23:47Speaker 2: tournament in Cancun so we can have some fun and,
- 23:50Speaker 2: and bring some players and bring some of our core group,
- 23:55Speaker 2: the baseball engines, we call it. And we're doing that
- 23:58Speaker 2: down in Cancun, so it'll be fun for everybody.
- 24:01Speaker 1: Right. Who's still the best player? In that group, who's
- 24:05Speaker 1: still the best player? Who can swing it or move
- 24:07Speaker 1: or run or throw it the best?
- 24:10Speaker 2: You mean baseball?
- 24:12Speaker 1: Yes, actual baseball.
- 24:14Speaker 2: Oh, Cano? Cano's still playing. That's the only one that's
- 24:16Speaker 2: still playing.
- 24:17Speaker 1: Didi is too, no?
- 24:18Speaker 2: Yeah. Didi, I don't know, but Cano still acted in Mexico,
- 24:23Speaker 2: hitting like 400. So we have to say Cano. It's unbelievable.
- 24:27Speaker 2: The guy just doesn't get old. I mean, he's like
- 24:29Speaker 2: 50 years old. He's still hitting 400 everywhere he plays.
- 24:31Speaker 2: So it's amazing.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Who's going to win the golf tournament, though, out of
- 24:35Speaker 1: that group? Who's the best golfer?
- 24:38Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't know. I mean, Mariano's pretty good.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Larkin is a decent player. You know, I'm not terrible.
- 24:48Speaker 2: But we'll see how it goes. You know, that's something
- 24:50Speaker 2: you never know. It's one game, one day. So whoever
- 24:54Speaker 2: has had a day might take it home.
- 24:57Speaker 1: No, whoever has the best pencil. And I've seen you play.
- 24:59Speaker 1: You're pretty good. So whoever has the best pencil is
- 25:02Speaker 1: probably going to win that day. Let's be serious here
- 25:05Speaker 1: for a second. I mean, it's a scramble. I'm assuming
- 25:09Speaker 1: it's a scramble. It's not just a straight up. So, yeah,
- 25:12Speaker 1: whoever has the best pencil and whoever has the best team.
- 25:15Speaker 1: is more than likely going to win. Is there anything
- 25:18Speaker 1: else you want us to know? Baseball United is the
- 25:22Speaker 1: one that had the six-run home run, right? Back in
- 25:24Speaker 1: the day. Do you guys still have the golden ball
- 25:26Speaker 1: or whatever it is with the six-run home run?
- 25:29Speaker 2: As of right now, yeah, we're trying to play around
- 25:31Speaker 2: with different rules, and we're trying to keep it in
- 25:35Speaker 2: MLB-type rules, but we're trying to make something fun for
- 25:37Speaker 2: the fans. So, yeah, we created that, and it became
- 25:40Speaker 2: a really huge thing And people like it. But we're
- 25:44Speaker 2: playing around to see if we're going to keep it
- 25:45Speaker 2: or not. But we're trying to just keep it exciting.
- 25:48Speaker 2: And Bonamics stuff is too crazy. So we hope we
- 25:52Speaker 2: can keep it and see how we can keep the
- 25:55Speaker 2: fans engaged. If the players like it, we might keep
- 25:57Speaker 2: it in there.
- 25:59Speaker 1: Got it. Got it. Well, Adrian, thank you so much
- 26:01Speaker 1: for joining us. Again, Baseball United Golf Tournament, Cancun. Where
- 26:04Speaker 1: do they go? Baseballunited.com? Is that where it is to
- 26:07Speaker 1: find out?
- 26:08Speaker 2: Yes,. com. Yes. Correct. Yes. Okay.
- 26:10Speaker 1: Okay, great. Baseball United, Cancun. You get to meet– there's
- 26:13Speaker 1: a lot of Hall of Famers on that list, guys
- 26:15Speaker 1: that are already in the Hall of Fame. Felix Hernandez
- 26:17Speaker 1: will be there one day. Elvis is in the Hall
- 26:19Speaker 1: of Fame for having the biggest nose in the history
- 26:20Speaker 1: of Major League Baseball. I love you, Elvis. What a nose.
- 26:23Speaker 1: I love you. Adrian, thank you so much. It's always
- 26:26Speaker 1: a joy whenever I get to see you, get to
- 26:28Speaker 1: catch up with you, man. One of the best. Tell
- 26:30Speaker 1: the family hello, man, and good luck. If you need
- 26:32Speaker 1: anything from us, let us know. Thanks, AB.
- 26:34Speaker 2: Appreciate it. Thank you, guys. Thank you for having me.
- 26:35Speaker 2: Appreciate it. Thank you.
