- 0:02Speaker 1: Happy Friday, people. Prats, Braun, Josh Harrison back in the seat. Jay,
- 0:07Speaker 1: good to see you. I'm going to paint a scenario
- 0:09Speaker 1: for you right off the top here, okay? And I
- 0:11Speaker 1: know you played for other teams and you were just
- 0:13Speaker 1: back in Pittsburgh, right? Getting honored and retiring as a Pirate.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Super cool.
- 0:18Speaker 1: So let me take you to a current world scenario,
- 0:21Speaker 1: a now scenario. And I happen to be wearing his
- 0:24Speaker 1: shirt today, Tarek Skubal. So you're the best pitcher in baseball,
- 0:27Speaker 1: back-to-back Cy Youngs, right? Your team's close enough. And also
- 0:32Speaker 1: you feel like you deserve a certain contract number and sure,
- 0:35Speaker 1: probably both sides were a little bit high, a little
- 0:37Speaker 1: bit low and you get dealt.
- 0:39Speaker 3: Okay.
- 0:39Speaker 1: It was like a few weeks ago. Now you're already
- 0:42Speaker 1: coming back tonight to start against the tigers. That's got
- 0:47Speaker 1: to feel weird. The only other thing I could think
- 0:49Speaker 1: of from this year was Kevin Gossman, uh, was traded
- 0:52Speaker 1: to the Cubs. And then they, there was a chance
- 0:54Speaker 1: he was going to face the blue Jays, like in
- 0:55Speaker 1: his first start. And he was like, eh, it's a
- 0:57Speaker 1: little much, but here's school bowl. Like not many starts
- 1:00Speaker 1: into his Dodger career. already back in Detroit. And here's
- 1:03Speaker 1: the shirt, by the way, while Josh tells us about
- 1:05Speaker 1: what Tarek might be feeling today. The Dodgers' Tarek Skubal
- 1:08Speaker 1: shirt is there. So if you'd like to troll Tigers
- 1:10Speaker 1: fans or you're a Dodgers fan just looking for a
- 1:13Speaker 1: good time with one of the best pitchers in baseball, FoulTerritoryShop.com.
- 1:16Speaker 1: But Jay, hey, your thoughts?
- 1:18Speaker 2: No, sick shirt.
- 1:20Speaker 4: Definitely going to be a little bit of added motivation
- 1:23Speaker 4: for him. You know, that's where he started. Got his
- 1:26Speaker 4: guys across the way and his guys just played behind him.
- 1:29Speaker 4: So I'm sure... There's going to be a little bit
- 1:31Speaker 4: of added motivation as far as not only bragging rights,
- 1:33Speaker 4: but as you mentioned, he's pitching for something that Dodgers are,
- 1:37Speaker 4: you know, obviously in a playoff race.
- 1:39Speaker 2: And, you know, while it's all.
- 1:41Speaker 4: Fun and games and you strapped on a uniform with
- 1:44Speaker 4: those guys, I'm sure Scoop was going to have a
- 1:45Speaker 4: little chip on his shoulder. And I obviously knew that
- 1:48Speaker 4: being dealt was part of the, you know, business side
- 1:51Speaker 4: of things. I don't think it's anything that the Tigers
- 1:54Speaker 4: didn't want to retain them, but obviously they were probably
- 1:56Speaker 4: a little bit off in numbers.
- 1:57Speaker 2: And, you know, what better way.
- 1:59Speaker 4: Than Scoop to go say, hey, you probably should have
- 2:01Speaker 4: paid me if you don't want to see what I
- 2:04Speaker 4: might be doing to your team. But as I said,
- 2:06Speaker 4: on the flip side, you know, the Tigers are going
- 2:08Speaker 4: to try to, you know, make it as tough as
- 2:10Speaker 4: they can. But I look for Tariq or, you know,
- 2:12Speaker 4: Scooble to, you know, go back to Detroit, as you said,
- 2:15Speaker 4: it wasn't too long ago.
- 2:16Speaker 2: So it's fresh.
- 2:17Speaker 4: So you can still kind of feel that adrenaline. So
- 2:20Speaker 4: it'd be interesting to see how he, how he pans out.
- 2:23Speaker 5: Obviously.
- 2:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:24Speaker 6: I mean, he's going to have some adrenaline, but the
- 2:26Speaker 6: Dodgers have lost three straight. They get, beat by the Braves.
- 2:31Speaker 6: It was a good series, all that stuff, but you
- 2:34Speaker 6: know what? Tarek Scouble's coming back home. He knows this team.
- 2:37Speaker 6: He knows their weaknesses, but he's also a very confident pitcher.
- 2:42Speaker 6: I expected Dodgers to win this and Scouble to put
- 2:46Speaker 6: it to this Tigers lineup.
- 2:49Speaker 1: You're already throwing predictions on us. Frisky on us yet.
- 2:53Speaker 1: We're only a few minutes into the show, but I
- 2:54Speaker 1: like it. And also a nice shirt from Kratz too,
- 2:56Speaker 1: an Adley Rutschman shirt, speaking of somebody who was traded
- 3:00Speaker 1: and landed with a different team. But let's begin our
- 3:03Speaker 1: show with someone who's been on the same team for
- 3:04Speaker 1: a few years now and is dominating. Look at those
- 3:15Speaker 1: pearly whites. All Smiles presented by Lorraine Co. And let's
- 3:19Speaker 1: get into Chris Sale. Complete game shut out first time
- 3:23Speaker 1: in a minute and he dominates the dodgers the dodgers
- 3:26Speaker 1: get swept by the braves the dodgers are only one
- 3:29Speaker 1: game up on the braves for the second spot in
- 3:31Speaker 1: the national league and that's the second buy that you
- 3:34Speaker 1: would get the brewers have won so only two teams
- 3:37Speaker 1: get a buy in the postseason this was a meaningful
- 3:40Speaker 1: series and damn kratz i don't know chris sale still
- 3:43Speaker 1: had it like that pumping 100 on us for the
- 3:45Speaker 1: first time the fastest pitches we've seen from him since
- 3:48Speaker 1: 2018 That's crazy.
- 3:51Speaker 6: Eight years since he went over 100. He's had a
- 3:54Speaker 6: few 99s. And, oh, it wasn't against the nine hitter.
- 3:58Speaker 6: It was against Shohei Otani. He understands. He understands. He
- 4:03Speaker 6: can get back in. He can dip into the tank
- 4:06Speaker 6: a little bit. I don't know that he knew he
- 4:08Speaker 6: had 100 because when we talked to him at the
- 4:10Speaker 6: All-Star game, he came to our set at the All-Star game,
- 4:14Speaker 6: and I asked him. I was like, hey, do you
- 4:16Speaker 6: got that in you? Because I remember that. I don't know, Jay. Hey,
- 4:18Speaker 6: if you remember it, when he came out in the
- 4:20Speaker 6: All-Star game a few years ago, however many years ago,
- 4:23Speaker 6: when he was young, and he was like, oh, I
- 4:26Speaker 6: can just let it eat. We saw some 101s. I
- 4:29Speaker 6: wonder if there was even a 102, but either way.
- 4:31Speaker 6: He's got it in the tank and he rose to
- 4:33Speaker 6: the occasion. I'm so excited to watch him pitch in
- 4:36Speaker 6: the playoffs.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure, man.
- 4:39Speaker 4: Uh, almost one of those things where you, you don't
- 4:42Speaker 4: want to say better with time because obviously he hasn't
- 4:45Speaker 4: been throwing a hundred forever, but, um, you know, it's
- 4:47Speaker 4: still in the tank. And as you mentioned against Shohei,
- 4:49Speaker 4: a little bit more adrenaline, knowing that somebody's on the mound,
- 4:51Speaker 4: reach back a little bit more. And something that I
- 4:54Speaker 4: think he said in his post, you know, game interview was, um,
- 4:57Speaker 4: almost look, not these words, but I'm gonna use these words,
- 5:00Speaker 4: a little bit of angels in the outfield. I believe
- 5:02Speaker 4: a good friend of his had passed that day. And
- 5:04Speaker 4: I think he mentioned that, you know, she had even,
- 5:07Speaker 4: you know, might've, he might've even felt her presence. So
- 5:10Speaker 4: a little bit out of motivation where you got Shohei
- 5:12Speaker 4: and then, you know, something went a little heavy on
- 5:14Speaker 4: his heart, you know, he, he poured it all out there.
- 5:18Speaker 4: But definitely going to be interesting to see, cause you know,
- 5:20Speaker 4: he's been pitching really amazing and the Braves are, You know,
- 5:25Speaker 4: as you see what they just did with the Dodgers.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Are making their way. And it's going to be interesting.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Can we run the sound from Chris about how he
- 5:34Speaker 1: did this? I think that was fun. And then we'll
- 5:36Speaker 1: show his son reacting to that one. Pretty viral. But
- 5:40Speaker 1: let's start with Chris. I always I'm a sucker for
- 5:42Speaker 1: these kind of answers. You know, obviously, sometimes you want
- 5:45Speaker 1: to get the real. baseball detail, but also sometimes I
- 5:49Speaker 1: prefer this versus the cookie cutter. I was focusing one
- 5:52Speaker 1: batter at a time, blah, blah, blah. Give me something funny.
- 5:55Speaker 1: So Chris did.
- 5:55Speaker 2: It's beautiful.
- 5:57Speaker 6: You threw a pitch over a hundred miles per hour
- 5:59Speaker 6: for the first time in eight years. How? With my arm.
- 6:08Speaker 2: How?
- 6:09Speaker 1: Well, I threw that pitch with my arm. That's how
- 6:11Speaker 1: I did it.
- 6:12Speaker 3: Nice.
- 6:14Speaker 6: I need a complete game. The complete game part of
- 6:16Speaker 6: it is crazy because you know you have a great bullpen.
- 6:20Speaker 6: You know it's a great lineup that you're facing. I just, man,
- 6:25Speaker 6: more in the tank like Jay Hay kind of alluded to. Like,
- 6:30Speaker 6: I just, I don't see how this guy doesn't end
- 6:34Speaker 6: up top three Cy Young this year. If it wasn't
- 6:36Speaker 6: for Mizorowski, what he's doing in this type of performance
- 6:40Speaker 6: in late August could have pushed him to win the
- 6:43Speaker 6: Cy Young. The Miz is going to win it. Let's
- 6:46Speaker 6: be honest. But, man, Chris Sale to be doing this
- 6:49Speaker 6: at this point in his career, Hall of Famer.
- 6:51Speaker 1: 206 ERA. I mean, the Miz is doing things we
- 6:55Speaker 1: haven't seen, especially with the velocity. But Chris Sale in
- 6:59Speaker 1: most seasons would be a Cy Young winner. It's a
- 7:01Speaker 1: good call here, Kratz. I mean, he's got the innings,
- 7:04Speaker 1: the 206 ERA, the strikeout rate off the charts. He's
- 7:08Speaker 1: doing it all. He's making his starts. The Braves have
- 7:11Speaker 1: managed him well. I believe this is still true. I
- 7:15Speaker 1: think after his first one or two starts of the season,
- 7:17Speaker 1: it was regular, regular four days rest. Many pitchers these
- 7:21Speaker 1: days don't just do four days rest. And this is
- 7:23Speaker 1: your example. I think almost every start, if not every
- 7:26Speaker 1: start since has been five days rest. They've got the
- 7:28Speaker 1: plan down with Chris sale and it is working, whatever
- 7:31Speaker 1: you're doing, just keep it. And also his son is
- 7:34Speaker 1: recognizing his game right now. Speaking of all smiles, did
- 7:38Speaker 1: you guys see this?
- 7:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I saw it. That's a, you know, he's like,
- 7:42Speaker 2: hold on. He coming out.
- 7:44Speaker 4: And I'm sure after the game when Chris saw it,
- 7:46Speaker 4: he was probably pumped because, you know, a lot of
- 7:48Speaker 4: times guys don't get a chance to play to where,
- 7:51Speaker 4: you know, some of their kids really understand what's going on.
- 7:53Speaker 2: So that's dope to see his kids reaction. That's ridiculous.
- 7:59Speaker 6: That's ridiculous to be able to see because, I mean,
- 8:02Speaker 6: the way he talks about it, he broke into the league.
- 8:05Speaker 6: As a young, just standard whippersnapper coming into the league, hey,
- 8:10Speaker 6: he's probably going to be a bullpen guy. He showed them, no,
- 8:13Speaker 6: he's a starter. He's played a whole entire career as
- 8:16Speaker 6: a starter. He went through things that would have broken
- 8:19Speaker 6: a lot of other players. He went through injuries. He
- 8:21Speaker 6: went through a lot of critiquing from the Red Sox fans.
- 8:26Speaker 6: Reestablished himself. And this is a stat that kind of
- 8:30Speaker 6: encapsulates Chris Sale and kind of reminds me of like, hey,
- 8:33Speaker 6: you know what? You see his son react. You realize
- 8:36Speaker 6: family is important to him, all that stuff. He has
- 8:39Speaker 6: never once gone to free agency. He has always signed
- 8:44Speaker 6: some type of extension no matter where he's been. Red
- 8:48Speaker 6: Sox fans might say, oh, it's a terrible extension. They
- 8:51Speaker 6: have a World Series because of what he did before
- 8:54Speaker 6: that extension. But he has always done it. It just
- 8:58Speaker 6: shows loyalty. it shows just a different, a different path
- 9:02Speaker 6: of going about it than other players have.
- 9:08Speaker 2: Josh, did you face Chris?
- 9:10Speaker 1: I'm assuming you did, right?
- 9:11Speaker 7: No, I did.
- 9:12Speaker 2: I faced him when he was with Boston.
- 9:14Speaker 4: Um, and I want to say that was around, had
- 9:18Speaker 4: to be around like 15. I think we opened up
- 9:21Speaker 4: in Boston and, um, I think I was one for
- 9:25Speaker 4: two or one for three on them. Um, But it
- 9:28Speaker 4: was my first time facing him. Obviously knew who he
- 9:30Speaker 4: was at the time, but we just never crossed paths
- 9:32Speaker 4: because he was with the White Sox. And I just
- 9:34Speaker 4: remember like, man, this dude is flinging this ball from
- 9:38Speaker 4: the other side. And the scouting report was like, man,
- 9:41Speaker 4: if you've never faced him, like you might want to
- 9:44Speaker 4: push him out and over. And then I had somebody,
- 9:46Speaker 4: you know, that's faced him because it wasn't too many
- 9:48Speaker 4: of us with the Pirates who had faced him, you know,
- 9:50Speaker 4: at this time. So there's a couple of guys like, yeah, man,
- 9:53Speaker 4: if you see a heater out over you know, be
- 9:55Speaker 4: ready to swing, just know that his slider or slur
- 9:58Speaker 4: comes out the same spot. So like, he's really good at,
- 10:01Speaker 4: you know, throwing that back foot. But, you know, I
- 10:04Speaker 4: was one for two. I hit a ball off the
- 10:05Speaker 4: wall and it was a short single due to Fenway.
- 10:07Speaker 4: But I think the other one I struck out on
- 10:09Speaker 4: like a high heater, but, you know, it felt like
- 10:12Speaker 4: it was at the belt and it was like at
- 10:13Speaker 4: the letters. But as I said, man, it's not too
- 10:16Speaker 4: many guys that's thrown from his angle that also has,
- 10:19Speaker 4: Not only that, you have to have command with it.
- 10:21Speaker 4: And as you said, his numbers are a testament of
- 10:24Speaker 4: a guy that's attacking his own and a guy that
- 10:27Speaker 4: has done this year and a year out when he's healthy.
- 10:30Speaker 6: Two for seven, Kit. Two for seven. Two punches, I
- 10:35Speaker 6: feel like, against a Hall of Famer. That is a legit,
- 10:39Speaker 6: legit stat. So two for seven, good for you. I
- 10:42Speaker 6: never faced him, but like Harry said... That ball comes
- 10:45Speaker 6: out from a different spot. It's like, you just don't,
- 10:48Speaker 6: I wonder if to jet even can get guys ready
- 10:50Speaker 6: for it. You know, we talk about like crazy extension
- 10:54Speaker 6: that some guys have. You talk about it's so far
- 10:58Speaker 6: out here and it's at that low, low, lower angle.
- 11:03Speaker 6: And yet he can still up shoot it. And then
- 11:04Speaker 6: he drops that slider that you're just like, ah, that's
- 11:07Speaker 6: a ball crap. That's not a ball. Oh, that's a
- 11:09Speaker 6: strike out. That just hit me in the back foot.
- 11:12Speaker 2: That's 98.
- 11:12Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 11:14Speaker 3: Nice.
- 11:16Speaker 1: Yeah, and actually, right, the guy who he's probably going
- 11:18Speaker 1: to lose the Cy Young to in the National League,
- 11:22Speaker 1: the Miz, also just brings it in such a different
- 11:24Speaker 1: way with the extension, the perceived velo. We're going to
- 11:26Speaker 1: get to him later because it does actually lead to
- 11:28Speaker 1: some issues for him like it did last night. But
- 11:31Speaker 1: all smiles for the Braves. I mean, that is a
- 11:34Speaker 1: statement series. We're in late August, and they sweep the Dodgers.
- 11:38Speaker 1: Very impressive and potentially... a preview of what we can
- 11:42Speaker 1: see in the post season with the Braves and the Dodgers.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Dodgers will have a different looking rotation at that point,
- 11:47Speaker 1: but we love it. All right. Baseball fans lock in

- 12:24Speaker 1: it looks like real quick?
- 12:26Speaker 6: I won't take it out of my mouth on TV.
- 12:28Speaker 6: That would be gross, but it's just a little pouch.
- 12:32Speaker 6: It's not like people are like, oh, I don't like
- 12:35Speaker 6: the caffeine this, caffeine that, but like when it talks
- 12:41Speaker 6: about the nootropic, it's like, you're just, just like a
- 12:45Speaker 6: level of focus. And it's good for my teeth too.
- 12:51Speaker 2: All right.
- 12:51Speaker 1: SeatGeek helping us out, obviously looking ahead at some games
- 12:54Speaker 1: and some tickets that you want to grab. I'm going
- 12:56Speaker 1: to actually focus on the Pirates for a moment with
- 13:00Speaker 1: this slot because Paul Skeens is the seller, right? Paul
- 13:04Speaker 1: Skeens starts so much better in Pittsburgh. Josh Shoke, I
- 13:07Speaker 1: want to spend a minute here to get your thoughts
- 13:09Speaker 1: on what you've seen from schemes this year. And if
- 13:11Speaker 1: you think the last outing is the re breakout where
- 13:15Speaker 1: he finds it again and has a nice strong final month, I.
- 13:19Speaker 4: Don't want to say re breakout, but obviously him going
- 13:22Speaker 4: six innings with no walks, um, and keeping it a
- 13:25Speaker 4: zero zero game and a one nothing win was big
- 13:28Speaker 4: for the pirates, especially in the time that they needed.
- 13:30Speaker 4: I think there are two games behind St. Louis, which
- 13:33Speaker 4: are still seven and a half behind the last wildcard
- 13:34Speaker 4: big series. But, uh, You know, if you're going to
- 13:36Speaker 4: make an interesting push, you need Paul Skeens to give
- 13:39Speaker 4: you what he gave yesterday. And it had been, I
- 13:41Speaker 4: think it's the first start they won since May of his.
- 13:44Speaker 4: So a big win for them, him going six innings,
- 13:48Speaker 4: as I said, no walks. And maybe something mechanically, maybe
- 13:51Speaker 4: he was able to piece something together because there's been
- 13:53Speaker 4: some disconnection. There's been some stories out. There's been some videos.
- 13:57Speaker 4: But nobody really knows other than Paul, you know, intuition.
- 14:00Speaker 4: I'm sure he's feeling things and just slowly trying to
- 14:03Speaker 4: piece it together. And that was definitely a step in
- 14:05Speaker 4: the right direction, going six scoreless in the game that
- 14:07Speaker 4: they won 1-0. So it'll be interesting to see where
- 14:11Speaker 4: he goes from here and just build off of that.
- 14:14Speaker 1: Yeah, and that game was Tuesday, by the way, the
- 14:16Speaker 1: one that you're talking about. And then the next one
- 14:20Speaker 1: for Paul is on– well, he's not listed on here,
- 14:24Speaker 1: but I'm guessing what, Tuesday?
- 14:25Speaker 2: It'll probably be back home.
- 14:27Speaker 4: They've been getting a little– creative with his starts based
- 14:31Speaker 4: off of trying to give him some time to work
- 14:33Speaker 4: through some things. And I mean, his last two starts,
- 14:35Speaker 4: his velocity had been up and which was encouraging for them,
- 14:39Speaker 4: but it's not just about velocity.
- 14:42Speaker 2: It's about being able to make your pitches.
- 14:44Speaker 4: And I think him going for, you know, six innings
- 14:47Speaker 4: with no walks was him being able to say, okay,
- 14:49Speaker 4: I think I'm piecing things back to back together. Cause we,
- 14:53Speaker 4: we covered it with miss, you know, even if his velocity,
- 14:57Speaker 4: if he dialed it back, he was still, you know,
- 14:59Speaker 4: making his pitches in those starts that Paul was struggling.
- 15:01Speaker 4: You know, he was walking guys, leaving pitches over the middle. And,
- 15:05Speaker 4: you know, maybe you see something headed back towards, you know,
- 15:07Speaker 4: him returning back to form a little bit, obviously.
- 15:10Speaker 2: End of the season.
- 15:11Speaker 4: But, you know, they say it's not how you start,
- 15:14Speaker 4: it's how you finish.
- 15:15Speaker 2: That's right.
- 15:16Speaker 1: And also, yeah, so Jared Jones is pitching Friday. Then
- 15:18Speaker 1: they've got a TBD on Saturday, but it won't be
- 15:21Speaker 1: Skeen's Ashcraft on Sunday. And then, yeah, they're back home.
- 15:24Speaker 1: against the Giants. So that's probably the landing spot for
- 15:26Speaker 1: the next start for Paul Skeen. So if you want
- 15:29Speaker 1: to grab a ticket to that, you know the spot.
- 15:30Speaker 1: It's SeatGeekTerritory10 for 10% off MLB tickets. You know the deal.
- 15:35Speaker 1: You go on there. They take care of you. It's
- 15:37Speaker 1: the official ticket marketplace of MLB. Go check it out.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Use that code, or you can save that code in
- 15:43Speaker 1: the description of this episode where you can download the app,
- 15:46Speaker 1: and then you can use that code a.
- 15:48Speaker 2: Little bit later on.
- 15:55Speaker 5: That's what he said.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Yep, that's what he said. Presented by Lorraine Co.
- 15:59Speaker 2: Let's hit.
- 16:01Speaker 3: The Miz.
- 16:02Speaker 1: I almost said Jacob DeGrom. I'm thinking dominant pitcher, strikeouts
- 16:06Speaker 1: in Queens.
- 16:08Speaker 2: Did I get it?
- 16:10Speaker 6: That's a fair. That's your one mistake for the year, Scott.
- 16:13Speaker 1: No, I didn't say it. I didn't say it. It
- 16:16Speaker 1: doesn't count. It's like a check swing. I didn't go.
- 16:18Speaker 1: I didn't go.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Did he go?
- 16:20Speaker 6: Harry, did he go?
- 16:24Speaker 2: He didn't. He said he thought it. He didn't say it.
- 16:26Speaker 2: Are you kidding me?
- 16:28Speaker 1: All right, let's get to Miz. So let's get right
- 16:32Speaker 1: to what he said and then we'll react to it
- 16:35Speaker 1: about how this isn't the first time he's had issues
- 16:38Speaker 1: with the mound because of how far down the mound
- 16:40Speaker 1: he goes.
- 16:42Speaker 7: Yeah, it was just a little wet, you know. Once
- 16:45Speaker 7: we battled through that, you know, the grounds crew was
- 16:47Speaker 7: really working hard to try and get it figured out.
- 16:49Speaker 7: You know, it would be good to fix for a
- 16:51Speaker 7: batter or two, and then I would dig out just
- 16:53Speaker 7: from landing. It would crumble away and, you know, back
- 16:57Speaker 7: to where the mud was. So, you know, I think
- 17:00Speaker 7: it was a part of the day and, you know,
- 17:02Speaker 7: it was.
- 17:02Speaker 3: What it was.
- 17:02Speaker 7: Got to figure out a way to power through it.
- 17:05Speaker 7: Was it getting on both feet or just the land?
- 17:09Speaker 7: Mostly just the land. You know, there were maybe a few,
- 17:12Speaker 7: I mean, maybe one, two times that I slipped on
- 17:14Speaker 7: the backside. But, you know, mostly the front side.
- 17:18Speaker 2: How is it affecting your pitches?
- 17:20Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, I think that's a big factor of,
- 17:25Speaker 7: you know, not being able to control the front side.
- 17:28Speaker 7: You know, there's no, you know, no wall to hit.
- 17:30Speaker 7: And so, you know, you kind of are throwing with
- 17:33Speaker 7: all arm.
- 17:35Speaker 1: So that's the miss. And you would think, oh, man,
- 17:38Speaker 1: he must have, Gotten shelled, right?
- 17:40Speaker 3: No.
- 17:41Speaker 1: It was six innings, two hits, two walks, six strikeouts,
- 17:44Speaker 1: 25 starts at 173 ARA. The Brewers won the game.
- 17:48Speaker 1: They're 17-8 in Ms. Starts. Kratz, I'll let you start
- 17:51Speaker 1: here since you dealt with the pitchers all the time.
- 17:53Speaker 1: How common is this for someone? And we're looking at
- 17:57Speaker 1: it now on video. If you're listening to the pod side,
- 17:59Speaker 1: you can check out video with us maybe on YouTube
- 18:01Speaker 1: at some point. But walk us through this.
- 18:05Speaker 6: I've never seen– I've never seen a pitcher– twice in
- 18:09Speaker 6: a season, need a mound repaired. And he's done it.
- 18:14Speaker 6: He did it a few times in Los Angeles when
- 18:17Speaker 6: they're playing the Angels, and he complained about it. He
- 18:19Speaker 6: said it was awful. But both times he says at
- 18:21Speaker 6: the end, he goes, yeah, you know what? I got
- 18:24Speaker 6: to deal with it. And if you can deal with
- 18:25Speaker 6: it by giving up two hits and going six with
- 18:27Speaker 6: six punches, I feel like it just shows you're on
- 18:31Speaker 6: another level. And that's why he's going to be the
- 18:32Speaker 6: Cy Young Award winner. But when he's sliding with his
- 18:36Speaker 6: landing foot there, It's really the mechanics of... And if
- 18:39Speaker 6: you're watching right now, it's really how far out he gets.
- 18:43Speaker 6: And I don't think the grounds crew is doing this
- 18:46Speaker 6: on purpose. And I'll explain why I say that in
- 18:48Speaker 6: a bit. But I think it's just something... He extends
- 18:52Speaker 6: so far out with that front foot that I think
- 18:54Speaker 6: he's landing, especially on the road, when he gets out
- 18:59Speaker 6: there and pitches second, he's landing past where the other
- 19:02Speaker 6: guy's foot is already dug out from the first inning.
- 19:06Speaker 6: And so... It's something he's going to have to adjust to.
- 19:10Speaker 6: But Jay Hay knows that some fields, they do a
- 19:14Speaker 6: little bit on the field to make it a little
- 19:17Speaker 6: bit of a home field advantage. You know, like they
- 19:20Speaker 6: went down the base path a little bit. They went
- 19:22Speaker 6: down in front of home plate a little bit for
- 19:24Speaker 6: a ground ball pitcher that's a home pitcher. I'm not
- 19:26Speaker 6: saying they're doing this, but whoever the Brewers face in
- 19:29Speaker 6: the postseason might think about that.
- 19:33Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. All fields are not created equally.
- 19:36Speaker 4: I mean, I know they had the CBA where now
- 19:39Speaker 4: all of them are supposed to be cut out the
- 19:41Speaker 4: same distance behind, you know, the infield. but uh and
- 19:45Speaker 4: all the mounds supposed to be the same height but
- 19:47Speaker 4: we know i mean i pitched a few games and
- 19:50Speaker 4: i've pitched at a few oh stop it stadiums i
- 19:53Speaker 4: was throwing 63 at some places 70 at other but
- 19:57Speaker 4: not that that was due to the mound but there
- 19:59Speaker 4: are some that literally you can feel time of day
- 20:03Speaker 4: depending on the conditions some might have been tackier than
- 20:06Speaker 4: others some might have had a big hole And you
- 20:08Speaker 4: mentioned Miz is, you know, his stride is longer than
- 20:11Speaker 4: a lot of people. So his heel might be landing
- 20:14Speaker 4: where most people finish. And I think you mentioned too,
- 20:17Speaker 4: like he said, I just got to power through it.
- 20:19Speaker 4: But he was also aware enough to know that, you know,
- 20:22Speaker 4: it could cause for, you know, him not to throw
- 20:24Speaker 4: against a stiff front side and, you know, put.
- 20:26Speaker 2: More on his arm.
- 20:27Speaker 4: But it's definitely one of those things that you would
- 20:29Speaker 4: definitely look out because there are also some of those
- 20:32Speaker 4: stadiums or places that you would go that's like, yeah,
- 20:34Speaker 4: they went down the base paths or, You know, I
- 20:38Speaker 4: promise the balls look like they rubbed up a little
- 20:40Speaker 4: darker when we hit as opposed to when they hit.
- 20:43Speaker 4: You know, all the little gamesmanship things. But realistically, though,
- 20:48Speaker 4: you really try to make sure that, you know, those
- 20:52Speaker 4: pitchers do have some type of landing spot to where
- 20:55Speaker 4: it is, you know, solid for them to where they
- 20:58Speaker 4: can land correctly. Because as you mentioned, he's a freak
- 21:02Speaker 4: athlete and he's striding out past other people. And you
- 21:05Speaker 4: just want to make sure that first and foremost, that
- 21:08Speaker 4: these guys' health is going to be fine.
- 21:09Speaker 2: And, you know, he powers through it. Like you said, power.
- 21:12Speaker 4: Through on it and going six with two hits, if
- 21:14Speaker 4: that's power through on it. I'm glad I'm done playing
- 21:17Speaker 4: and don't have to face somebody if that's what's called
- 21:20Speaker 4: power through on it is.
- 21:20Speaker 3: I don't want to.
- 21:22Speaker 6: Face him anyway. 104, we're good. We're good.
- 21:25Speaker 2: Like, I'm good.
- 21:26Speaker 6: I've been done for a long time. But exactly what
- 21:29Speaker 6: you said. He actually mentioned it in his start. I
- 21:31Speaker 6: watched the interview after his start in Anaheim.
- 21:35Speaker 1: And.
- 21:36Speaker 6: He said, yeah, the question was asked him, could this
- 21:40Speaker 6: cause an injury?
- 21:41Speaker 2: Yes.
- 21:42Speaker 6: So good for him understanding his body, understanding, you know what,
- 21:46Speaker 6: I'm not going to get on it. I'm not going
- 21:47Speaker 6: to try to hit 100, 300, 400 every pitch, which
- 21:51Speaker 6: sometimes you see him do that and you're like, whoa,
- 21:53Speaker 6: he's got it going today. And able to pitch. That's
- 21:57Speaker 6: crazy because we talk about it all the time. A
- 21:59Speaker 6: lot of throwers in the game get taken advantage of
- 22:02Speaker 6: by hitters because they throw and they're not necessarily hitting spots.
- 22:06Speaker 6: He was able to back it down, only hit a
- 22:09Speaker 6: few pitches over 100, and still be able to go deep.
- 22:14Speaker 6: For the Miz, at this point in the season, six
- 22:16Speaker 6: innings is deep into the game. So it was awesome,
- 22:20Speaker 6: but it'll be interesting to see what happens when he
- 22:22Speaker 6: goes on the road in the playoffs.
- 22:25Speaker 1: It was a favored start by some of his friends,
- 22:28Speaker 1: like D.L. Hall, reliever thought. that it was his favorite
- 22:32Speaker 1: outing of the year for Miz. He said he didn't
- 22:34Speaker 1: have his A stuff, and he was sliding on the mound,
- 22:36Speaker 1: and he still did it. That's grown man stuff right there.
- 22:39Speaker 2: I love that last sentence. That's grown man stuff.
- 22:44Speaker 1: Yeah, and he's got grown man stats here for somebody
- 22:47Speaker 1: so young. The last pitcher aged 24 or younger who
- 22:50Speaker 1: had an ERA as low as Jacob Mizorowski, the 173
- 22:55Speaker 1: mark through 25 starts in a season. You'd have to
- 22:57Speaker 1: go to 1985. Doc Gooden, a 1.64 in his first
- 23:01Speaker 1: 25 starts in 1985.
- 23:04Speaker 2: I mean, come on.
- 23:06Speaker 1: This is incredible right now. There it is.
- 23:09Speaker 2: That's crazy.
- 23:10Speaker 1: Yeah, it's crazy. Look at the shiny, beautiful stats here.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Crats on the right side of the screen especially. I mean,
- 23:16Speaker 1: it's a Christmas tree when it comes to the StatCast
- 23:18Speaker 1: page for Miz.
- 23:20Speaker 6: It's crazy. I was trying to read, if you're listening
- 23:23Speaker 6: on a podcast, everything on a StatCast page is red.
- 23:26Speaker 6: And the baseball is all the way over to the
- 23:29Speaker 6: 199th percentile. And then there's one that's like just white.
- 23:33Speaker 6: It's just kind of a little bit above average. And
- 23:35Speaker 6: that's his ground ball rate. Well, you can't hit ground
- 23:37Speaker 6: balls when everyone's swinging and missing. But I was trying
- 23:40Speaker 6: to look it up. I was trying to look it up,
- 23:43Speaker 6: and I'm doing it on the fly here. I'm going
- 23:45Speaker 6: to disagree with D.L. Hall. While I wasn't there to
- 23:49Speaker 6: see him fight through that and do grown man stuff,
- 23:52Speaker 6: I have a hard time believing my favorite start would
- 23:54Speaker 6: not be the one against the Phillies because that was
- 23:58Speaker 6: on June 12th. He had 15 punch outs in 95
- 24:03Speaker 6: pitches and gave up A hit, a single hit. So sorry, DL.
- 24:08Speaker 6: I get it. He grinded through it. Pitchers want to
- 24:10Speaker 6: see guys grind through things. The most dominant start of
- 24:14Speaker 6: this season by far was against the Phillies lineup. One hit,
- 24:19Speaker 6: nine innings, 15 punch AOs and zero walks.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Impressive.
- 24:24Speaker 1: It's just a ridiculous season. I want to make sure
- 24:26Speaker 1: we keep giving it love, especially down the stretch here,
- 24:28Speaker 1: because then we're going to, in a month, focus on
- 24:30Speaker 1: playoff miss and what that looks like.
- 24:37Speaker 6: One of the things that I wasn't very good at
- 24:39Speaker 6: was playing Major League Baseball. One of the things that
- 24:42Speaker 6: I'm really good at is sweating. Even now when I'm
- 24:45Speaker 6: not playing, I need hydration. I need to make sure
- 24:49Speaker 6: it's convenient. That's why I choose Quince.
- 24:52Speaker 1: Yep, Quince electrolyte stick packs to the rescue, Kratts. They
- 24:56Speaker 1: taste great and the zero sugar options are stevia free.

- 25:34Speaker 2: What about playoff judge?
- 25:35Speaker 1: Can we get to Aaron and the latest quotes from
- 25:37Speaker 1: him here? And that's what he said, presented by Lorraine Co.
- 25:41Speaker 1: Judge said he hopes to return without a minor league
- 25:43Speaker 1: rehab stint. Brian Hoke, who covers the Yanks, got this
- 25:48Speaker 1: quote from Judge. I didn't rehab in 2023 when I
- 25:51Speaker 1: missed probably the same amount of time. Why waste at bats?
- 25:54Speaker 1: Why waste anything down in a minor league game? I've
- 25:56Speaker 1: been doing this for a while now and I've got
- 25:57Speaker 1: a sense of what I need to do on the
- 25:58Speaker 1: field and how to manage it.
- 26:01Speaker 3: Jay.
- 26:01Speaker 5: Hey, your thoughts.
- 26:03Speaker 2: I'm not mad at it. You talk about a guy,
- 26:06Speaker 2: you talk about a guy that knows his body.
- 26:08Speaker 4: Obviously he's been through some injuries, but I honestly can
- 26:12Speaker 4: attest to it. Cause I had a stint in 23
- 26:15Speaker 4: with the Phillies to where I had to go on
- 26:18Speaker 4: a on an injured list for something with my wrist.
- 26:23Speaker 4: And instead of going down to play, you know, rehab games,
- 26:27Speaker 4: I was like, I can keep my legs fresh here.
- 26:29Speaker 2: I'm lifting, I'm running my bats.
- 26:32Speaker 4: We got a traject machine in the cage that I
- 26:34Speaker 4: can face whatever pitchers, righties, lefties, as many, I can
- 26:38Speaker 4: take my bats here. Um, being a guy that's played
- 26:41Speaker 4: some rehab games, like after about two or three, you're like,
- 26:44Speaker 4: all right, man, there's really nothing like it's, it's not
- 26:46Speaker 4: the same. It's hard to simulated, even though you do
- 26:50Speaker 4: need to get back on your feet. But if he's
- 26:52Speaker 4: doing everything to keep his legs under him, you know
- 26:55Speaker 4: that he's out there running Shaq. And, you know, if
- 26:57Speaker 4: his legs are under him and it's about getting at bats,
- 27:00Speaker 4: I think he can take those at bats off the trajectory.
- 27:03Speaker 2: I mean, what else do you have it there for?
- 27:06Speaker 4: I don't know if y'all feel any different, Kratz, but
- 27:08Speaker 4: I don't know if you've seen a trajectory machine, but
- 27:10Speaker 4: I literally was taking at bats like, oh, put the
- 27:12Speaker 4: righty up.
- 27:13Speaker 2: I'll take five at bats. You can mix in his pitches.
- 27:16Speaker 4: Now to your Question, I don't think it simulates extension.
- 27:20Speaker 2: We were talking about sale.
- 27:22Speaker 4: I think it will simulate their release point, but you're
- 27:25Speaker 4: not going to get the same type of extension. But
- 27:28Speaker 4: I do think there's some benefit, especially for him. He's like,
- 27:31Speaker 4: if y'all want me here, I can do my stuff here,
- 27:33Speaker 4: and when I'm ready to go, I'm good to go.
- 27:34Speaker 4: So I'm not opposed to it.
- 27:37Speaker 6: He's going to rehab against the Rays, rehab against the Orioles.
- 27:41Speaker 6: He's not rehabbing against Norfolk. And part of that, too,
- 27:45Speaker 6: we'll get to it later with the Red Sox and
- 27:46Speaker 6: Trevor Story. struggling in AAA. It's almost a lose-lose for
- 27:51Speaker 6: Judge to go down there. You face guys that you're
- 27:53Speaker 6: not going to be facing in the big leagues. He
- 27:55Speaker 6: can be around the big league training staff. And if
- 27:58Speaker 6: you don't do well, oh, he's not ready. He's not ready.
- 28:02Speaker 6: This team's going to make the playoffs. They're solidifying their spot.
- 28:06Speaker 6: He's not going to get in the lineup and hurt them.
- 28:08Speaker 6: And they don't have an expectation of he needs to
- 28:10Speaker 6: play 26 games in a row. So yeah, a guy
- 28:13Speaker 6: like that, he's better than most players. So if he says,
- 28:16Speaker 6: I don't need him, He doesn't need them.
- 28:21Speaker 1: One more quote I want to get to in this segment.
- 28:23Speaker 1: This one went viral on the West Coast especially. Zach Manassian,
- 28:27Speaker 1: who's the number two in command in the front office
- 28:29Speaker 1: to Buster Posey, addressing bullpen issues this year for the
- 28:34Speaker 1: ball club.
- 28:35Speaker 3: Yeah, I want to be a little careful to say
- 28:38Speaker 3: rebuild the entire bullpen. Something I was looking at the
- 28:42Speaker 3: other day. The ninth inning, obviously, has been a huge issue.
- 28:47Speaker 3: Our bullpen ERA, when you take out the ninth inning,
- 28:51Speaker 3: I think the last time I looked was a couple
- 28:52Speaker 3: days ago, sixth in baseball. So when you look at
- 28:56Speaker 3: some of the names out in that bullpen, some of
- 28:58Speaker 3: the guys who have stepped up and thrown well, I
- 29:02Speaker 3: know Dylan Smith had a tough one yesterday, but Dylan Smith,
- 29:07Speaker 3: he's thrown well this year. Carson Seymour's looked really good
- 29:10Speaker 3: this year. Keaton Wynn, who unfortunately is hurt right now,
- 29:14Speaker 3: I think took some great positive strides. Sam Hentges and
- 29:20Speaker 3: Jason Foley are two guys first year removed from injury.
- 29:25Speaker 1: And.
- 29:27Speaker 3: Those guys have flashed what they can be at times
- 29:30Speaker 3: as well. So there's talent there, but one thing I
- 29:34Speaker 3: will say is I know as a front office we
- 29:37Speaker 3: don't feel comfortable obviously resting on what we have.
- 29:42Speaker 1: All right, so that's him on KNBR, and then Kratz,
- 29:45Speaker 1: of course, people went nuts. They're like, wait, so you're
- 29:48Speaker 1: not going to include the ninth inning in this part
- 29:52Speaker 1: of the conversation? I actually think he got roasted by
- 29:57Speaker 1: some people, and I'm like, I actually think.
- 30:00Speaker 2: Whatever.
- 30:00Speaker 1: Should he phrase it that way?
- 30:01Speaker 7: No.
- 30:03Speaker 1: It wasn't the worst thing. I got the point. Hey,
- 30:05Speaker 1: we like some of our bridge guys. We like our setup.
- 30:08Speaker 1: We don't have a ninth inning option. We should look
- 30:11Speaker 1: for a big name closer in the offseason.
- 30:13Speaker 2: I got it.
- 30:15Speaker 1: Wait.
- 30:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 30:16Speaker 6: I mean, isn't this on him? Is this on the office?
- 30:19Speaker 6: And I know with Buster there, they're not going quite
- 30:22Speaker 6: the near at all close to where it was when... Oh,
- 30:28Speaker 6: I'm blanking on the... No, Farhan Zaidi. Farhan Zaidi was
- 30:33Speaker 6: there where the ninth inning didn't matter. It doesn't matter
- 30:38Speaker 6: what inning. They're all just innings. There's high leverage innings
- 30:40Speaker 6: and there's not high leverage innings. I don't think they're
- 30:43Speaker 6: in that boat, but they went into the season with
- 30:47Speaker 6: that position, the ninth inning, the closer position, not solidified.
- 30:52Speaker 6: I think it's something that With stats, if you say, well,
- 30:56Speaker 6: you know what? If I take out all of the
- 30:57Speaker 6: games where I struck out, I was a really good hitter. Like, what?
- 31:03Speaker 6: No duh. If you take out the ninth inning, it's
- 31:05Speaker 6: a key inning in baseball for them. So is he right?
- 31:09Speaker 6: Do they have pieces? Yes. To me, I think it's
- 31:12Speaker 6: something that you have to make sure you have solidified
- 31:16Speaker 6: going into the offseason or going into a new season.
- 31:20Speaker 6: You need to have your clothes or not. I hope
- 31:23Speaker 6: Ryan Walker steps up. I hope one of these young
- 31:26Speaker 6: guys is that guy. And it hasn't happened for the Giants.
- 31:31Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely. You need high leverage guys.
- 31:34Speaker 4: And to say we've been good except for the ninth inning.
- 31:39Speaker 4: Today's game of baseball, they've always talked about bridging that
- 31:42Speaker 4: gap and having a deep bullpen.
- 31:44Speaker 2: What good does it do you to have a.
- 31:47Speaker 4: Good bullpen if you can't finish it in the ninth.
- 31:50Speaker 4: Everything you've done up to that point is, as you said,
- 31:52Speaker 4: it's a flip of a coin toss if you're saying,
- 31:54Speaker 4: I hope.
- 31:55Speaker 2: This guy is good.
- 31:55Speaker 4: Because more times than not, I mean, you look at
- 31:58Speaker 4: teams that have dominant closers, it's like, oh, you get
- 32:00Speaker 4: to the ninth inning. I mean, you want somebody that's
- 32:03Speaker 4: coming in that's going.
- 32:04Speaker 2: To shut it down.
- 32:05Speaker 4: And what good does it do to scratch and claw,
- 32:09Speaker 4: get the lead, go into the ninth inning, and then
- 32:11Speaker 4: you're just like, oh, let's go.
- 32:12Speaker 2: Throw this guy out there. I hope he gets it done.
- 32:14Speaker 4: So as you said, it's a reflection on kind of
- 32:16Speaker 4: what they did I'm a firm believer you have to
- 32:18Speaker 4: be able to close games, especially in today's culture where,
- 32:23Speaker 4: you know, there's going to be a point in the
- 32:24Speaker 4: playoffs where somebody is going to be pulled after five
- 32:27Speaker 4: innings because they're going to say we got the bullpen
- 32:29Speaker 4: and we want to get this 6-7-8 guy to get
- 32:31Speaker 4: to the ninth. So what good does it do to
- 32:33Speaker 4: have this 6-7-8 guy if you don't have a ninth?
- 32:36Speaker 4: So it kind of makes no sense to me. But
- 32:39Speaker 4: at the same time, as you said, he could have
- 32:42Speaker 4: just said, yeah, we need to go find somebody to
- 32:46Speaker 4: close back in part.
- 32:47Speaker 5: Of the game.
- 32:48Speaker 1: Yeah, that's it. You could have said it just like that,
- 32:50Speaker 1: what you said in a sentence from Manassian. Like, hey,
- 32:54Speaker 1: we like what we've got, except we're going to look
- 32:56Speaker 1: for ninth inning help.
- 32:58Speaker 2: Cool. Got it. Thank you.
- 33:01Speaker 1: But cherry picking stats is a beautiful thing.
- 33:05Speaker 2: Anyway, yeah.

- 33:29Speaker 1: I think. I say it with hesitancy, but.
- 33:32Speaker 2: It sounds real.
- 33:34Speaker 1: The Rays, after what, like 20 years of trying to
- 33:36Speaker 1: figure this out, have the approvals that they need. New
- 33:40Speaker 1: owner in the past year. Now, new ballpark approved. Not
- 33:45Speaker 1: in St.
- 33:45Speaker 2: Pete.
- 33:46Speaker 1: Not in St. Petersburg. This is Hillsborough County. They just
- 33:49Speaker 1: approved 5-2, the new deal for the raise. There were
- 33:53Speaker 1: two approvals that were needed. Tampa City Council, that was
- 33:57Speaker 1: a close one, 4-3. Hillsborough was easier. That's the county, right?
- 34:01Speaker 1: And that was 5-2. It's a $ 2. 3 billion ballpark in Tampa.
- 34:07Speaker 1: And it is projected to open in 2029. So let's
- 34:10Speaker 1: get to work.
- 34:14Speaker 2: As far as who's.
- 34:14Speaker 1: Paying for what, if you really care about that stuff,
- 34:17Speaker 1: Hillsborough County and the city, those two combined, are going
- 34:21Speaker 1: to commit $ 876 million of tax money or whatever. And
- 34:28Speaker 1: then the raise will pay $ 1. 37 billion plus all construction overruns.
- 34:33Speaker 1: So the raise pay like, what is that, about two-thirds?
- 34:36Speaker 1: And then the city and the county pay about a third.
- 34:39Speaker 1: And finally, Kratz, we're going to get some baseball and what,
- 34:46Speaker 1: how many years is that? Three years out of the
- 34:50Speaker 1: basement carpet drop.
- 34:53Speaker 6: I mean, we got a new roof and everything and
- 34:55Speaker 6: now we're moving out. Like let's get, this is good.
- 35:00Speaker 6: This is good as much as I loved the proposed
- 35:04Speaker 6: village land that was going to be going on in St.
- 35:07Speaker 3: Pete.
- 35:08Speaker 6: That the original ownership and original politicians kind of agreed on, yeah,
- 35:15Speaker 6: it would have been great for the St. Pete area
- 35:17Speaker 6: over a 30-year period. Awesome. Ultimately, moving to Tampa, this
- 35:22Speaker 6: is great. This is great for baseball as a whole,
- 35:25Speaker 6: and this is great, in my opinion, for the Rays
- 35:29Speaker 6: as an organization because you've seen what the Lightning, which
- 35:33Speaker 6: is not a sport, hockey is not a sport that
- 35:35Speaker 6: is played in Florida, at the extent that baseball is played.
- 35:39Speaker 6: So bringing it to Tampa, hopefully this allows fans of
- 35:43Speaker 6: the Tampa Bay Rays, not the St. Pete Rays, the
- 35:47Speaker 6: Tampa Bay Rays to come and support their team, just
- 35:51Speaker 6: like they support the other franchises that are.
- 35:53Speaker 2: In the city. Yeah, no, um, you definitely hit it.
- 35:59Speaker 2: Tampa Bay being in Tampa Bay.
- 36:01Speaker 4: Um, and just in time, they, as you said, got
- 36:05Speaker 4: the roof fixed, but, um, I think it's a smart move,
- 36:09Speaker 4: as you mentioned. Gives those fans, people that live in
- 36:12Speaker 4: Tampa Bay, no disrespect to the people in St.
- 36:14Speaker 2: Pete.
- 36:14Speaker 4: I'm sure they're going to feel some type of way,
- 36:17Speaker 4: but still not that bad of a drive. And I
- 36:20Speaker 4: know it's one of those things where it's something to
- 36:21Speaker 4: look forward to. Next couple of years, we'll have a
- 36:24Speaker 4: new ballpark for the Tampa Bay Rays. And I think
- 36:27Speaker 4: it's kind of fitting seeing that the Tampa Bay Rays
- 36:30Speaker 4: will be in Tampa Bay.
- 36:32Speaker 1: That is also, you know, whenever... AJ hosts like a
- 36:37Speaker 1: few times a month these days. And whenever he's hosting,
- 36:40Speaker 1: he usually takes shots at me. So it is finally
- 36:44Speaker 1: my chance to declare AJ Pruszynski upset today. Unfortunately, he
- 36:50Speaker 1: is not hosting today because he is shedding tears. He
- 36:54Speaker 1: is very upset. The Orlando Rays are extinct. They never
- 37:00Speaker 1: were born. They never will be born. It hurts for
- 37:05Speaker 1: me too. I love Orlando, but also I'm very well
- 37:08Speaker 1: aware that there's not going to be baseball in Orlando
- 37:11Speaker 1: and Tampa. So the Orlando dreamers can keep dreaming. The
- 37:14Speaker 1: only chance that Orlando had was if the Rays moved
- 37:18Speaker 1: to Orlando, it always seemed on the government side that
- 37:22Speaker 1: it was not going to happen. That's a real thing, right?
- 37:24Speaker 1: All the way up to the governor did not want
- 37:26Speaker 1: them to move out of the Tampa Bay area. They
- 37:29Speaker 1: will not move out of the Tampa Bay area. If
- 37:31Speaker 1: all this goes the way it should. And it sounds
- 37:33Speaker 1: like this is real. I know that people have been
- 37:35Speaker 1: fooled before and crats. We went through this whole song
- 37:36Speaker 1: and dance with the A's. And then over the last
- 37:38Speaker 1: few years, Oh, it sounds like it's happening. Oh, now
- 37:42Speaker 1: it's not again. Oh, they have to redo it.
- 37:43Speaker 3: Oh.
- 37:44Speaker 1: And then of course we had the hurricane, which was terrible.
- 37:46Speaker 1: And then that messed up the, the plans and the
- 37:49Speaker 1: communication line with Stu Sternberg, the old owner of the race.
- 37:53Speaker 1: This one sounds legit. Now I didn't get to read
- 37:56Speaker 1: everything and this happened and broke kind of right around
- 37:59Speaker 1: when our show started, but it sounds like this is real.
- 38:02Speaker 1: And again, I'm not the expert on this. We can
- 38:05Speaker 1: get AJ to comment next week. But the Rays being
- 38:09Speaker 1: in Tampa versus the Rays being in St. Pete, according
- 38:13Speaker 1: to every single person that knows that area better than
- 38:16Speaker 1: I do, is a huge win. Players, fans, traffic, you
- 38:22Speaker 1: name it. It is no offense to St.
- 38:23Speaker 2: Petersburg.
- 38:24Speaker 1: That is a great spot. You want to go down
- 38:26Speaker 1: there and visit and have a good time and hit
- 38:28Speaker 1: the beaches.
- 38:28Speaker 2: Great.
- 38:29Speaker 1: But I would like to not be stuck in worlds
- 38:32Speaker 1: of traffic going across a causeway is what I've learned.
- 38:36Speaker 2: It's called.
- 38:38Speaker 1: So props to Tampa for getting this done. The thing
- 38:41Speaker 1: that I'm rooting for in this case is we, we
- 38:43Speaker 1: need baseball to be represented better in Florida. That's the
- 38:46Speaker 1: real problem here that Kratz is alluding to. Why is
- 38:49Speaker 1: baseball getting dusted by hockey in Florida?
- 38:53Speaker 2: Right.
- 38:53Speaker 1: And Miami has its own problems. And I would say
- 38:58Speaker 1: entertainment is, distractions and competition, but in the Tampa Bay area,
- 39:03Speaker 1: baseball should be dominating and the race are good most years.
- 39:06Speaker 1: So you look around and you're like, what is going
- 39:08Speaker 1: on here? Crappy ballpark, too much traffic.
- 39:10Speaker 2: Okay.
- 39:11Speaker 1: Well, it sounds like we have a potential lane to
- 39:14Speaker 1: fix both of those problems.
- 39:16Speaker 3: Here it is.
- 39:17Speaker 6: This is the last chance. I'm not saying baseball's leaving
- 39:20Speaker 6: Florida because it'll never leave Florida, but it is both cases, St.
- 39:25Speaker 6: Pete and Miami The stadium was not built where it
- 39:30Speaker 6: should have been built. So the Rays have a shot
- 39:33Speaker 6: to change that. I think they did a tremendous job
- 39:36Speaker 6: with the Lightning Stadium. It's an event to go down
- 39:40Speaker 6: there and you go and watch hockey. It's entertainment. Baseball's
- 39:43Speaker 6: played all over the state. you can go to a
- 39:47Speaker 6: Rays game and be entertained if they do it correctly.
- 39:50Speaker 6: So to me, this is their chance to help Florida
- 39:53Speaker 6: get that name of, Hey, you know what? We love baseball.
- 39:56Speaker 6: We know baseball down here and get fans out because Miami,
- 40:01Speaker 6: they build it. You know, they built the stadium there
- 40:03Speaker 6: because of a very political push. And it's just not
- 40:08Speaker 6: that convenient spot that fans are going to go to.
- 40:11Speaker 6: And if it's not convenient, it's, Why am I going
- 40:13Speaker 6: to go to an affordable game? Why am I going
- 40:16Speaker 6: to go to this? So make it be about the fans,
- 40:19Speaker 6: the location. I think Tampa is going to get it right.
- 40:22Speaker 6: Tampa Bay, the actual city of Tampa Bay, is going
- 40:26Speaker 6: to get it right. And that is what is important.
- 40:29Speaker 6: And I think if this team can increase attendance, increase
- 40:35Speaker 6: just the city dynamic that they've been lacking since being
- 40:39Speaker 6: in St. Pete, It's going to help all of baseball.
- 40:42Speaker 6: So all owners should be behind this. Bella, Bella, Bella, where?
- 40:51Speaker 6: I don't know where Bella is, but I know how
- 40:53Speaker 6: to take care of my pup.
- 40:55Speaker 1: Kratz, while you find Bella, today's episode is sponsored by
- 40:58Speaker 1: the ASPCA Pet Health Insurance Program. The ASPCA Pet Health

- 41:47Speaker 1: correcting Kratz, which immediately struck a chord for me when
- 41:50Speaker 1: you said it.
- 41:51Speaker 5: Tampa.
- 41:52Speaker 6: Tampa, Tampa. I said Tampa Bay. I didn't go back
- 41:55Speaker 6: and fix it. The city of Tampa. The city of Tampa.
- 41:59Speaker 6: The area of Tampa Bay, not the St. Pete Rays.
- 42:04Speaker 2: Just to prevent.
- 42:05Speaker 1: Someone who was waiting seven minutes into this segment just
- 42:10Speaker 1: to tell you what's good. Like Kratz doesn't know what's
- 42:12Speaker 1: going on down there.
- 42:13Speaker 2: He does.
- 42:15Speaker 1: The games were played last part here in Tampa last
- 42:20Speaker 1: year while the Rays had to fix up the ballpark
- 42:24Speaker 1: from the hurricane. Also, side note, and this is a
- 42:26Speaker 1: real thing, this should have been done many years ago.
- 42:29Speaker 1: It's annoying that it didn't, and I'm not putting all
- 42:31Speaker 1: the blame on anybody really. There's blame to be put everywhere.
- 42:35Speaker 1: But that is why a ton of money had to
- 42:37Speaker 1: be wasted to then put a roof back on the trough.
- 42:43Speaker 1: That thing was built so long ago and it's like
- 42:46Speaker 1: paper mache. Of course, a natural disaster at some point
- 42:49Speaker 1: was going to cause a problem and it's dangerous. That
- 42:51Speaker 1: park should not have been there for that long. So
- 42:54Speaker 1: now they fixed it up.
- 42:55Speaker 3: Great.
- 42:55Speaker 1: But really in an ideal world, this would have happened
- 42:57Speaker 1: a long time ago. We're pushing forward. It's all good now.
- 43:00Speaker 1: But when they played last year in the Yankees exhibition home,
- 43:06Speaker 1: they did pretty well with the crowds there and it's
- 43:09Speaker 1: Florida in the summertime.
- 43:10Speaker 2: So it was outside.
- 43:11Speaker 1: So what they were seeing was very promising, you know,
- 43:14Speaker 1: case studies, I would call it.
- 43:16Speaker 2: Okay.
- 43:17Speaker 1: If we do this in this area and during the
- 43:21Speaker 1: summer months that are crazy, we're not outside.
- 43:23Speaker 2: This is going to be a vibe.
- 43:26Speaker 1: People will show up like they are for the lightning games.
- 43:28Speaker 1: Is it going to be perfect? No, I think you
- 43:30Speaker 1: have to also just like, but I, some goodwill over
- 43:33Speaker 1: a time period. Are you going to invest a little
- 43:35Speaker 1: bit more in the team, all of that? And I
- 43:37Speaker 1: have hopes that the Rays will do that, but ultimately
- 43:40Speaker 1: will attendance numbers go up long-term, not just for the
- 43:43Speaker 1: one year first shiny new stadium pop.
- 43:46Speaker 2: I think it will.
- 43:47Speaker 5: Yes, I agree.
- 43:48Speaker 2: I think it will.
- 43:49Speaker 6: And I think that area really knows ball. They know
- 43:53Speaker 6: ball and they build a little bit of a fan
- 43:55Speaker 6: base that I think extends down to the Sarasota area
- 44:00Speaker 6: through Tampa, through, you know, in different areas that have
- 44:04Speaker 6: grown around Tampa that now they have access to the stadium.
- 44:09Speaker 6: It doesn't take you 45 minutes to drive 10 miles.
- 44:26Speaker 1: Oops, I just knocked over my mic because it's Friday.
- 44:29Speaker 1: Let's do two things. Let's save the Murakami news.
- 44:32Speaker 2: Yeah, you okay?
- 44:33Speaker 7: Sorry.
- 44:33Speaker 1: I'm trying a new mic setup, but so far it's
- 44:37Speaker 1: mostly working, except for the last minute of the show
- 44:39Speaker 1: on a Friday. Well, do you hear me?
- 44:44Speaker 2: Good.
- 44:44Speaker 1: Do you see the mic?
- 44:45Speaker 3: No?
- 44:45Speaker 5: Good.
- 44:46Speaker 7: All right.
- 44:46Speaker 1: We're winning. Two things. One first for you, Kratz, because
- 44:51Speaker 1: you know Brent Strom, right?
- 44:53Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. He's back.
- 44:57Speaker 1: He's back with the Astros. We'll save the Murakami news,
- 45:00Speaker 1: by the way, that He's in some extension talks potentially,
- 45:03Speaker 1: or they've had some combos. We'll save that for Monday
- 45:05Speaker 1: with AJ, but Brent Strom is going to be in
- 45:08Speaker 1: the dugout for the Astros as a pitching consultant. Joe
- 45:11Speaker 1: Espada said he's expected to join the team today at
- 45:14Speaker 1: city field. So Strom's back. He's I got to look
- 45:17Speaker 1: up the age while you're talking. I think he's like 83.
- 45:19Speaker 1: Is that time right?
- 45:23Speaker 2: It is.
- 45:23Speaker 6: It's up there. Stromer was the pitching coach when I
- 45:26Speaker 6: was in Houston and, And I mean, the stuff that
- 45:29Speaker 6: he brought, and he actually taught the current pitching coaches
- 45:33Speaker 6: that are in Houston now, and they kind of took over.
- 45:37Speaker 6: I'm not saying they should have gotten rid of Stromer,
- 45:40Speaker 6: but you know what? Bringing him in as a consultant,
- 45:45Speaker 6: I love that. Maybe questioning or just helping them continue
- 45:51Speaker 6: to develop because he was always interested in what the
- 45:54Speaker 6: next new thing was. For being over 80 years old,
- 45:57Speaker 6: He definitely was not afraid of what was out there,
- 46:01Speaker 6: the new things. But how many coaches are you allowed
- 46:05Speaker 6: in the dugout? I feel like you need a certain–
- 46:08Speaker 6: I feel like Major League Baseball has to curtail this.
- 46:11Speaker 6: We can't just be putting 15 different dudes. It's going
- 46:14Speaker 6: to start looking like winter ball in there.
- 46:20Speaker 1: Josh, how many coaches when you finished up?
- 46:25Speaker 2: I'll be honest.
- 46:27Speaker 4: Feel like more and more started getting at it um
- 46:30Speaker 4: but i feel like i know for real but i
- 46:32Speaker 4: feel like they had a a limit because only so
- 46:34Speaker 4: many coaches could be on the bench or in the
- 46:36Speaker 4: dugout at a time but i feel like obviously things
- 46:39Speaker 4: have changed but back when it was like september call-ups
- 46:42Speaker 4: and it would be like like i feel like they've
- 46:45Speaker 4: gotten rid of being able to call up a lot
- 46:48Speaker 4: of the 40 men but they can call up a
- 46:49Speaker 4: lot of coaches but there's a lot of different specific
- 46:52Speaker 4: coaches for a lot of different things this is oh,
- 46:55Speaker 4: this guy knows how to do the software for the trajectory.
- 46:58Speaker 4: And it's like, but so they'll create places, but some
- 47:03Speaker 4: of the spots are needed. Sometimes, and especially in this case,
- 47:07Speaker 4: you said Strom is.
- 47:08Speaker 2: What, 83?
- 47:11Speaker 4: That's some knowledge that you can't compute or quantify. So
- 47:16Speaker 4: he's probably given a different set of advice where it's like,
- 47:19Speaker 4: you know what, let's look at the analytics and I
- 47:20Speaker 4: can give you the feel with that.
- 47:22Speaker 2: They go hand in hand.
- 47:24Speaker 4: So You might see some people trying to blend that
- 47:26Speaker 4: in and as to why Houston's probably bringing that guy
- 47:29Speaker 4: like Strom has been around.
- 47:31Speaker 1: I robbed six years from him and he looks great.
- 47:32Speaker 1: My point was going to be like 83 looking great.
- 47:34Speaker 1: He's 77. He looks great.
- 47:37Speaker 2: My apologies. That's my apology. I ran with him.
- 47:42Speaker 1: Hey, I'm, I'm respecting that. Yeah. I mean, he is
- 47:45Speaker 1: sharp as ever. Super smart.
- 47:47Speaker 7: Right.
- 47:48Speaker 1: And clearly, I mean, 77, there's not a lot of 77.
- 47:51Speaker 1: He's probably the oldest coach.
- 47:53Speaker 2: Right.
- 47:54Speaker 1: I'm talking overall coaching staffs. I don't know if there's anybody.
- 47:57Speaker 6: Nobody, nobody full time.
- 48:01Speaker 2: I feel like that's a safe bet. Yeah.
- 48:03Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 48:03Speaker 2: Okay, good.
- 48:04Speaker 1: So respecting his game. And then lastly, I just wanted
- 48:09Speaker 1: to shout out Walker Jenkins getting called up to the
- 48:12Speaker 1: show almost a year in AAA. Now plenty of injuries
- 48:15Speaker 1: and all of that. And Aaron Gleeman, who covers the
- 48:18Speaker 1: team pointed out how, I guess there was like some
- 48:20Speaker 1: conspiracy theory stuff about not calling them up and then
- 48:23Speaker 1: He could play AAA during a lockout next year. All
- 48:25Speaker 1: that's gone now. He's a major league player. He's up
- 48:28Speaker 1: in the show. He should be in the lineup tonight.
- 48:32Speaker 1: So we have our Twin Cities territory show that did
- 48:34Speaker 1: a breaking news show on it yesterday. That includes Dan
- 48:37Speaker 1: Hayes and company. Dan was really sharp on this. He
- 48:40Speaker 1: called it the other day. He was like, Friday, he's
- 48:42Speaker 1: probably going to get called up. And he is. So
- 48:45Speaker 1: we're actually going to end the show today with a
- 48:46Speaker 1: couple minutes for you on a clip from Twin Cities
- 48:49Speaker 1: territory talking about Walker Jenkins. Hope you all have a
- 48:51Speaker 1: fantastic weekend. Jay Hay, Kratz, good show today.
- 48:57Speaker 5: And I think the Twins are hopeful that one day
- 48:58Speaker 5: he'll be among that group of, like, all-time greats. But
- 49:01Speaker 5: he made this impossible to say no by just hitting
- 49:06Speaker 5: and hitting and hitting. We know that there are five
- 49:08Speaker 5: tools there. We know he can play defense. I think
- 49:11Speaker 5: also the defense we saw on Wednesday night probably played
- 49:14Speaker 5: into this a little bit. just but the timing of
- 49:17Speaker 5: Byron Buxton getting dinged up you know that they weren't
- 49:20Speaker 5: going to make that move on the road they were
- 49:23Speaker 5: not going to fly Walker Jenkins across the country for
- 49:26Speaker 5: a game to fly him across the country and get
- 49:28Speaker 5: home at five in the morning afterwards that's not like
- 49:31Speaker 5: you know like especially because they were going to see
- 49:34Speaker 5: how Buxton was doing Buxton was supposed to be off
- 49:37Speaker 5: on Wednesday no matter what that was already in the
- 49:39Speaker 5: plans So I think the guys just made it to
- 49:44Speaker 5: where they have to say yes because he homered again
- 49:47Speaker 5: on Wednesday night. That's his eighth home run in August.
- 49:50Speaker 5: I don't know the up-to-the-minute numbers, but he's been ridiculous
- 49:55Speaker 5: in August. His average is over 400. His slug is
- 49:58Speaker 5: through the roof over 700, I believe. He's showing them
- 50:02Speaker 5: that the power is real. And I still will contend
- 50:06Speaker 5: that a lot of those fly balls to lefts, are
- 50:08Speaker 5: not going to be home runs in the big leagues.
- 50:10Speaker 7: St.
- 50:10Speaker 5: Paul, the home run on Wednesday night was 96-6 off
- 50:13Speaker 5: the bat. But I still think that probably gets down.
- 50:16Speaker 5: Maybe it hits the wall, something like that. But he's
- 50:22Speaker 5: just proven everything he can. The only question that really
- 50:25Speaker 5: exists on him is he still hasn't played 300 professional games.
- 50:30Speaker 1: You might be able to add something to that lock
- 50:32Speaker 1: tonight or one of your picks. The BetMGM swing for
- 50:35Speaker 1: the fences game. You know the deal at this point.
