- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to KFI AM 640, the Bill Handel Show
- 0:04Speaker 1: on demand on the iHeartRadio.
- 0:11Speaker 2: App.
- 0:15Speaker 3: And now, Handel on the News. Ladies and gentlemen, here's
- 0:19Speaker 3: Bill Handel.
- 0:23Speaker 2: And good morning, everybody. Handle in the morning crew.
- 0:26Speaker 4: Wednesday, October 21, and I've got a stitch. Oh, man,
- 0:29Speaker 4: on my side.
- 0:31Speaker 2: It's like a cramp.
- 0:33Speaker 4: Ooh.
- 0:35Speaker 2: What time is it?
- 0:37Speaker 4: It's 6.05, sir.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Okay. So it's a stitch in time.
- 0:43Speaker 5: Gives nine or makes nine?
- 0:45Speaker 2: Yeah. No, I just... Ooh.
- 0:47Speaker 6: Ooh.
- 0:48Speaker 4: You all right, pal? Yeah, no, I'll be fine. It
- 0:50Speaker 4: just goes away. But it's just, ooh, this cramp just
- 0:54Speaker 4: drives me nuts sometimes. Is she hitting you?
- 0:56Speaker 2: Yeah, oh, yeah. Yeah, hit me in the eye. That's
- 0:59Speaker 2: my stye.
- 1:00Speaker 6: How is your stye today?
- 1:02Speaker 2: My stye is better. It looks better. No, it's not.
- 1:05Speaker 2: I went to the doctor yesterday, and.
- 1:08Speaker 6: Did he tell you to put a teabag on it?
- 1:10Speaker 2: No, she didn't. It was a nurse practitioner.
- 1:13Speaker 4: And I went to— even though I'm a member of Kaiser,
- 1:17Speaker 4: I don't want to spend five hours in the urgent
- 1:22Speaker 4: care or emergency room. So there's a Hoag urgent care
- 1:26Speaker 4: just down the street. You know how I love Hoag.
- 1:29Speaker 4: And I just pay for it. So I go down
- 1:31Speaker 4: to Hoag, and she prescribes— this eye drop thing. And
- 1:36Speaker 4: she says, it's a retromycin. And she goes, are you
- 1:41Speaker 4: allergic to anything? Yeah, a retromycin. That's the only thing
- 1:43Speaker 4: I'm allergic to. And so, but it was 60 years
- 1:47Speaker 4: ago was the last time I participated in a retromycin.
- 1:52Speaker 4: And And I had hives, et cetera, et cetera. And
- 1:54Speaker 4: she goes, well, it's been a while, but let's be safe.
- 1:57Speaker 4: So I'll give you a tube of this, just an
- 1:59Speaker 4: antibiotic tube. So I take it down to Costco where
- 2:03Speaker 4: I buy my medicine that I don't get from Kaiser.
- 2:06Speaker 2: And they call.
- 2:07Speaker 4: Me and say, are you aware this is $ 275?
- 2:11Speaker 2: And I went $ 275 for an antibiotic little drop.
- 2:16Speaker 4: So I call her back up and she gives me
- 2:18Speaker 4: something else.
- 2:19Speaker 2: And it was $ 11.
- 2:19Speaker 4: So, um, Anyway, not that anybody cares. I thought I'd
- 2:24Speaker 4: share that story with you.
- 2:25Speaker 5: You are so weird about the things you're cheap on
- 2:27Speaker 5: and the things you spend unholy gobs of money about.
- 2:32Speaker 4: It's the weirdest thing.
- 2:34Speaker 5: You're super cheap in one area, and then, you know,
- 2:39Speaker 5: money's flying out of your pocket in the other.
- 2:41Speaker 4: Well, all right.
- 2:42Speaker 2: Well, what can I tell you?
- 2:43Speaker 5: It's medicine, dude.
- 2:45Speaker 4: We have to look at you. That's true, but, you know,
- 2:48Speaker 4: $ 270 for a tube of, you know, you can do
- 2:51Speaker 4: it for $ 11, all right?
- 2:53Speaker 2: And it's just as good.
- 2:55Speaker 5: You're negotiating on your health.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Yes.
- 2:59Speaker 4: She did say I will have some scrotal problems with
- 3:02Speaker 4: my new antibiotic, but she said, why are you shaking
- 3:07Speaker 4: your head, Amy?
- 3:09Speaker 6: She said that?
- 3:11Speaker 2: Well, not really.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Okay.
- 3:15Speaker 4: Because you've been using it as a bath mat when
- 3:17Speaker 4: you get out of the shower well no what happens
- 3:21Speaker 4: is uh you know i put it in my eye
- 3:23Speaker 4: last night and all of a sudden i started your
- 3:25Speaker 4: scrotum yeah i started no no in my eye but
- 3:27Speaker 4: it really started itching uh and uh it turns never
- 3:32Speaker 4: mind uh i was going to do a crab joke
- 3:34Speaker 4: but i'm not going to uh okay that's enough of
- 3:37Speaker 4: that let me say hello will good morning Good morning, Bill.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I have to go there. What time is it?
- 3:42Speaker 2: I'm already in the toilet with that. Okay, Mario, good morning.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Good morning, everybody. And there's Amy.
- 3:48Speaker 6: Hi there.
- 3:49Speaker 2: What are you wearing? Is that a Disneyland something?
- 3:52Speaker 6: Yes, it's finally cool enough that I can wear my
- 3:53Speaker 6: Halloween spirit jerseys.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I can't. Oh, there you go. Oh, there you go.
- 3:57Speaker 4: Oogie boogie bash. Oogie boogie bash. I can't see much
- 4:00Speaker 4: because of the sty in my eye. That's another thing.
- 4:03Speaker 4: And the stitch.
- 4:04Speaker 2: And a stitch. I got a stitch. I got a sty.
- 4:06Speaker 2: And the scrote. I got a scrote issue.
- 4:09Speaker 4: Yeah, I have a scrote. There's a lot of gravity
- 4:14Speaker 4: involved now with it. I share with you the story
- 4:18Speaker 4: of my father. My father wore boxer shorts, and gravity
- 4:24Speaker 4: really hit him. So even below the level of the
- 4:29Speaker 4: bottom of the boxer shorts, there were the bell ringers.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Ann, good morning to you. Hi, good morning.
- 4:37Speaker 6: She just shakes her head and thinks about all this
- 4:40Speaker 6: hard work that I put into the show today.
- 4:43Speaker 2: And Will, good morning to you. Good morning again.
- 4:47Speaker 4: Okay, I forgot that I said good morning. That's the
- 4:49Speaker 4: other thing. A little bit dementia hit also.
- 4:51Speaker 6: Is that the eye drops?
- 4:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I hope. I hope.
- 4:56Speaker 4: All right, guys, a fair amount going on today. As always,
- 4:59Speaker 4: news cycles are 24 hours a day now. So let's
- 5:03Speaker 4: do it. We'll start with the news this morning. with Amy, Neil,
- 5:07Speaker 4: and me.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Lead story. Fly me to the moon. Now, there seems
- 5:13Speaker 2: to be a big discrepancy here.
- 5:14Speaker 4: First of all, the Ukrainian folks, Zelensky, said that the Starlink,
- 5:22Speaker 4: that they use a satellite system that they use connected
- 5:25Speaker 4: to Starlink, is what they use for defense. In other words,
- 5:30Speaker 4: figuring out, that's part of figuring out where the ballistic
- 5:32Speaker 4: missiles from Russia are coming in, And Zelensky said that
- 5:36Speaker 4: was shut down or diminished for a period of time.
- 5:40Speaker 4: Marco Rubio said the State Department said that's just not true.
- 5:44Speaker 4: The Wall Street Journal reported that it is true. Zelensky
- 5:48Speaker 4: then said, OK, it's now back on a few days
- 5:51Speaker 4: later and we don't know exactly what it is. I
- 5:54Speaker 4: would believe the Wall Street Journal way before I would
- 5:57Speaker 4: believe Marco Rubio. who is Secretary of State, because they
- 6:01Speaker 4: corroborate everything. And then the issue becomes Elon Musk. Did
- 6:06Speaker 4: he make that order because he controls Starlink? And nobody knows,
- 6:12Speaker 4: but it goes to show you the vulnerability because Starlink
- 6:15Speaker 4: is quickly on its way of being the communications method.
- 6:19Speaker 2: Around the world. And one guy controls it.
- 6:24Speaker 5: I thought the whole story was that Elon Musk did.
- 6:28Speaker 2: We don't know.
- 6:29Speaker 4: We don't know at this point. I got to tell you,
- 6:33Speaker 4: the guy is a genius. I don't throw that word
- 6:35Speaker 4: around very often.
- 6:37Speaker 5: The reality is he does great things when it has
- 6:40Speaker 5: nothing to do with politics. When it has to do
- 6:42Speaker 5: with politics, it just gets muddy.
- 6:45Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:46Speaker 4: And he's very close to, he's back again close to
- 6:49Speaker 4: Donald Trump. And they had a meeting, which they do
- 6:51Speaker 4: on a regular basis just before this happens. Now, the
- 6:55Speaker 4: good news is that is said and done. So all
- 6:58Speaker 4: we're doing is looking at as to what happened for
- 7:00Speaker 4: several days. The other thing that's happening is the United
- 7:04Speaker 4: States is not sending Patriot.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Missiles, interceptor missiles to Ukraine. And they're about out.
- 7:11Speaker 4: And they're the only things that can defend against the
- 7:14Speaker 4: missiles that Russia is sending.
- 7:15Speaker 2: It's a mess.
- 7:17Speaker 4: And then, as you know, at this point, our president
- 7:20Speaker 4: is blaming Zelensky for the diesel fuel shortage.
- 7:23Speaker 2: It's Zelensky's fault.
- 7:25Speaker 4: And Zelensky refuses to negotiate negotiations.
- 7:30Speaker 2: The end of the war. And it's Zelensky.
- 7:33Speaker 4: Putin wants the war to end. Zelensky does not. I mean,
- 7:37Speaker 4: it's all just topsy turvy.
- 7:39Speaker 2: It is completely.
- 7:40Speaker 6: Do you think Zelensky doesn't want the war to end?
- 7:43Speaker 2: Of course he wants the war to end.
- 7:45Speaker 4: This is Trump saying he doesn't want the war to end.
- 7:48Speaker 4: Trump said he doesn't want the war to end and
- 7:50Speaker 4: went further and said he never wanted the war to end.
- 7:54Speaker 2: I mean, you know, okay.
- 7:57Speaker 4: And out of the three of them, who is the
- 7:59Speaker 4: most hands-on for their people? Zelensky. Yeah, I would think so. Yeah,
- 8:06Speaker 4: because then you have Putin, of course, is a complete dictator,
- 8:10Speaker 4: controls Russia. And he doesn't touch a thing.
- 8:13Speaker 2: No, and what do you mean he doesn't touch a thing?
- 8:16Speaker 5: He's not hands-on on anything.
- 8:17Speaker 4: I know, but he controls it. Yeah, but you know
- 8:20Speaker 4: what I'm saying? He's not hands-on. People do his dirty work. Oh, yeah, yeah,
- 8:24Speaker 4: that's true. But the same thing with Donald Trump, too.
- 8:26Speaker 4: That's what I'm saying.
- 8:28Speaker 5: Out of the three of them, there's one that is
- 8:30Speaker 5: defending and fighting for their people.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Yeah, that is Zelensky. And at this point, he's getting
- 8:35Speaker 2: the blame for it.
- 8:35Speaker 4: Putin originally said it's his fault, and our president has
- 8:39Speaker 4: jumped on that scenario. Yes. I agree with Putin. It
- 8:43Speaker 4: is Zelensky's fault. And we're going to see what happens.
- 8:47Speaker 4: The midterms, it's not doing well for the Republicans. The
- 8:50Speaker 4: president's approval rating is dropping.
- 8:53Speaker 6: By the Yeah, it's like at 33 percent.
- 8:56Speaker 2: Yeah, this is not good.
- 8:57Speaker 4: And now you have Republicans that like, for example, in
- 9:00Speaker 4: I think it was New Hampshire or Maine running for
- 9:02Speaker 4: Senate saying Republican saying, I.
- 9:08Speaker 2: Don't mean I've never met the guy.
- 9:09Speaker 4: I disagree with him effectively saying that I have nothing
- 9:14Speaker 4: to do with Donald Trump. And so I think you're
- 9:16Speaker 4: going to see more and more of that. Let's do
- 9:18Speaker 4: one more and then we'll take our first break.
- 9:20Speaker 6: Here's another where at least a small break from President Trump.
- 9:25Speaker 6: Of course, Trump endorsed on Truth Social the reelection of
- 9:29Speaker 6: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He said he's been a great warrior,
- 9:34Speaker 6: prime minister, and even a greater partner for peace in
- 9:37Speaker 6: combating the Islamic Republic in Iran. And then J.D. Vance
- 9:43Speaker 6: was asked about it on Monday, and he said, I
- 9:46Speaker 6: endorse American candidates. That's where I'm focused on. Or what
- 9:50Speaker 6: I'm focused on is the midterms, so I'm not getting
- 9:52Speaker 6: involved in Israeli elections. He says I'm not anti endorsing him.
- 9:56Speaker 6: I'm not pro endorsing him. I'm not getting involved in
- 9:59Speaker 6: Israeli politics.
- 10:01Speaker 4: Now, that is interesting that this is Vance effectively telling
- 10:05Speaker 4: the president to go stuff it when it comes to
- 10:07Speaker 4: the endorsement of Netanyahu, because Donald Trump wants people to
- 10:12Speaker 4: be in lockstep with him. And that means you promote
- 10:17Speaker 4: Netanyahu because he loves Netanyahu and Netanyahu certainly loves him.
- 10:21Speaker 1: And J.D.
- 10:23Speaker 2: Vance will not follow that track.
- 10:25Speaker 4: And I wonder if there if there's going to be
- 10:27Speaker 4: any fallout.
- 10:28Speaker 2: And I don't know the answer to that. All right.
- 10:30Speaker 4: Let's go ahead and take that first break and then
- 10:32Speaker 4: we'll go through these stories. Oh, the Stitch is doing better,
- 10:35Speaker 4: by the way. No, it's doing better.
- 10:40Speaker 5: You're killing me, man. I want to come over there
- 10:42Speaker 5: and massage you.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Yeah, well, let's not talk about that.
- 10:46Speaker 4: Sorry, Will.
- 10:46Speaker 2: We've done that before, and it's... How do you think
- 10:50Speaker 2: I got this job? Exactly. All right, let's take a break.
- 10:52Speaker 4: Mr.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Handel.
- 10:54Speaker 3: You're listening to Bill Handel, On Demand from KFI AM640.
- 11:00Speaker 4: All right. Let's return to more handle on the news
- 11:04Speaker 4: with Amy, Neil and me. All right.
- 11:06Speaker 5: Former Los Angeles mayoral candidate Rick Caruso. He declined, declined
- 11:12Speaker 5: again to endorse either incumbent Mayor Karen Bass or challenger
- 11:16Speaker 5: Nithya Raman. And but he did express that he said
- 11:22Speaker 5: that he had some extreme concern about Raman's plans to
- 11:25Speaker 5: remove police chief Jim McDonald. He also gave some small
- 11:32Speaker 5: compliments to Bass and saying that she's done her work
- 11:37Speaker 5: and she's worked with the team. And I compliment this,
- 11:41Speaker 5: but he's not coming out overly for one or the other, but. Yeah,
- 11:46Speaker 5: you can see that he doesn't want Nithya Raman any more.
- 11:49Speaker 2: Than anybody's saying.
- 11:50Speaker 4: Yeah, but who do you vote for?
- 11:51Speaker 2: It's either worse or worse with either one.
- 11:54Speaker 5: The devil you know, and you trust that she's learned
- 11:57Speaker 5: from some mistakes. But if you write in a candidate
- 12:01Speaker 5: or do anything like that, it's going to be Nithya Raman,
- 12:04Speaker 5: and that's a problem.
- 12:07Speaker 2: All of it. All of it.
- 12:09Speaker 4: I still don't understand what the problem is with McDonald.
- 12:14Speaker 4: I think he's a he was a great sheriff and
- 12:17Speaker 4: he's a good, good police chief.
- 12:19Speaker 2: And it's easy. You know, Raman, Raman says balanced. Yeah.
- 12:23Speaker 2: But Raman says that he's too close to ice. And, uh,
- 12:27Speaker 2: all right.
- 12:28Speaker 4: So anyway, she wants, uh, to be, uh, as anti
- 12:31Speaker 4: ice as possible, almost arrest. I state, uh, ice agent
- 12:34Speaker 4: as they come along, which in some cases should.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Okay.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Weird.
- 12:38Speaker 4: Cause she likes margaritas a lot. Oh, there you are.
- 12:42Speaker 2: But on the rocks.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:44Speaker 4: Okay.
- 12:44Speaker 5: Well, like her campaign, let's hope.
- 12:47Speaker 6: Not a cheap fix. Caltrans has secured $ 4 million in
- 12:51Speaker 6: emergency funding to fix a large crack that has developed
- 12:55Speaker 6: in a slope below PCH near Laguna Beach. The right
- 13:01Speaker 6: lane of the southbound Pacific Coast Highway closest to the
- 13:05Speaker 6: slope is now closed from Reef Point Drive to Irvine
- 13:08Speaker 6: Cove Drive.
- 13:09Speaker 2: And there's some other.
- 13:11Speaker 6: closures along PCH because they're trying to shore up this
- 13:15Speaker 6: shoreline as more storms are headed this direction.
- 13:18Speaker 4: I have lived here in Southern California for basically my
- 13:21Speaker 4: entire life. I do not remember when there was not
- 13:25Speaker 4: a problem with PCH. When either rocks, I mean, the
- 13:29Speaker 4: size of cars were falling down on the roadway or
- 13:33Speaker 4: landslides and they have to hold up the hill.
- 13:36Speaker 2: It's Uh, what do you do?
- 13:38Speaker 4: But it's so iconic, uh, that, uh, what do you do?
- 13:42Speaker 4: Get rid of PCH. And then of course, uh, then those, uh,
- 13:46Speaker 4: houses along the water. How do they, how do people
- 13:48Speaker 4: get to them? Well, you don't have to worry about that.
- 13:50Speaker 4: I'll tell you how they're going to get to them.
- 13:51Speaker 4: They're going to have to take a boat. As Celine
- 13:53Speaker 4: Dion so famously said, they can take a kayak.
- 13:57Speaker 5: They could take a kayak.
- 13:59Speaker 4: One of my favorite drops.
- 14:01Speaker 2: Uh, yep.
- 14:02Speaker 5: Uh, United Nations. Uh, Hey America. Uh, Your poop stinks,
- 14:09Speaker 5: and it's causing global warming. So countries are not doing
- 14:13Speaker 5: enough to cut emissions, but basically they said United States
- 14:17Speaker 5: is the biggest problem.
- 14:19Speaker 4: Yeah, not in terms of real numbers. Real numbers, China
- 14:23Speaker 4: beats us in terms of pollution. Well, yes, but they're
- 14:26Speaker 4: four times bigger. But it's per capita. And the United
- 14:29Speaker 4: States is effectively at the bottom of the heap in
- 14:32Speaker 4: terms of controlling emissions.
- 14:35Speaker 6: A big payout. For tipsters, President Trump has announced a
- 14:41Speaker 6: plan to offer people who help expose government fraud up
- 14:47Speaker 6: to $ 30, 000. It's a new $ 25 million program administered by
- 14:51Speaker 6: the Justice Department. Tips can be submitted through a government website.
- 14:55Speaker 6: And again, individuals can get up to $ 30, 000 if a
- 14:58Speaker 6: tip leads to a conviction. This was all sparked by
- 15:02Speaker 6: the fraud crackdown at the White House that really kind
- 15:06Speaker 6: of started with that big scandal in Minnesota in which
- 15:09Speaker 6: lots of state residents of Somali descent were accused by
- 15:12Speaker 6: federal prosecutors of bilking taxpayers by setting up scam social services.
- 15:18Speaker 2: Here's my question. OK, here is $ 25, 000 available to you.
- 15:23Speaker 4: How many tips do you think are going to flood
- 15:27Speaker 4: that website or that telephone site?
- 15:30Speaker 6: Well, it has to lead to some sort of action.
- 15:32Speaker 2: No, I'm not arguing. No, no, I'm not arguing that.
- 15:34Speaker 4: You're right. It has to lead to a conviction, which
- 15:36Speaker 4: is almost never going to happen because there's really no
- 15:39Speaker 4: such thing.
- 15:40Speaker 2: As widespread fraud. I mean, there's some.
- 15:42Speaker 4: But how many tips do you think are going to
- 15:45Speaker 4: come in where you're talking about your neighbors, where you're
- 15:48Speaker 4: talking about, oh, look at that person over there. And
- 15:52Speaker 4: the racism that we experience. It's going to be very interesting.
- 15:57Speaker 4: This thing is going to fall apart under its own weight.
- 16:00Speaker 4: There will be millions of tips poured in that will
- 16:04Speaker 4: be called in.
- 16:05Speaker 5: I hope that doesn't cut into our $ 5, 000 that we're
- 16:07Speaker 5: supposed to be getting. Or the $ 1, 000 for the kids.
- 16:09Speaker 5: They're actually getting that.
- 16:10Speaker 2: They are getting that?
- 16:11Speaker 4: Yeah. Is that program already in place so every kid
- 16:24Speaker 4: in the U.S. has already gotten.
- 16:27Speaker 1: $ 1, 000?
- 16:27Speaker 6: And a share of SpaceX?
- 16:29Speaker 2: My kids are going to be rich. Yeah.
- 16:32Speaker 4: Can you find out whether that program, and I don't know, Amy,
- 16:35Speaker 4: whether that program of that $ 1, 000 per kid, that fund.
- 16:39Speaker 2: That is set up, which is a great idea, by
- 16:40Speaker 2: the way. I don't have a problem with that.
- 16:42Speaker 4: The problem is because that is a sort of form
- 16:45Speaker 4: of socialism to get people kickstarted. which I like, but
- 16:48Speaker 4: I don't know if the program is in place yet.
- 16:51Speaker 6: Yes, it's in effect.
- 16:52Speaker 2: It's in effect. How many thousand dollar accounts have been
- 16:54Speaker 2: set up?
- 16:55Speaker 6: Automatic enrollment for nearly 70 million eligible children under 18
- 16:59Speaker 6: that have a social security number.
- 17:01Speaker 4: And the thousand dollars has been transferred into those accounts.
- 17:07Speaker 6: How to claim parents' legal guard. They need, well, you
- 17:09Speaker 6: have to download the official app.
- 17:10Speaker 4: I'm just curious because that is a, you know, I
- 17:13Speaker 4: don't disagree with that. This is where I think government,
- 17:16Speaker 4: I have no problem with government helping people get started,
- 17:19Speaker 4: especially in this day and age. But what is 70
- 17:22Speaker 4: million times a thousand? You know, we have a million thousand.
- 17:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:26Speaker 4: Seventy million bazillion gazillion. And I it's you know, we
- 17:30Speaker 4: don't pay attention to these numbers. You know, we're going
- 17:33Speaker 4: to be two trillion dollars deficit this year. Two trillion
- 17:36Speaker 4: dollars are going to be spent more than comes into
- 17:39Speaker 4: the government.
- 17:40Speaker 5: I mean, that's just those damn social programs.
- 17:42Speaker 2: Yeah. It's just driving me crazy. OK, let's go ahead
- 17:45Speaker 2: and take a break and then we will come back.
- 17:48Speaker 3: You're listening to Bill Handel on demand from KFI AM 640.
- 17:54Speaker 4: Next week, I'll be doing my voter guide and explaining
- 17:57Speaker 4: why I am voting the way I am voting. Not
- 18:01Speaker 4: that it particularly interests you, but hey, this show is
- 18:04Speaker 4: all about, well, what do they call the show?
- 18:07Speaker 2: Oh, the Bill Handel show.
- 18:08Speaker 4: So, okay, I'm tired by talking about me. Neil, why
- 18:12Speaker 4: don't you start talking about me?
- 18:14Speaker 5: Well, sir, you're both handsome and strong.
- 18:16Speaker 2: Well, there you go.
- 18:17Speaker 4: And this is why Neil is going to be here
- 18:19Speaker 4: tomorrow morning and he will be on the show.
- 18:21Speaker 2: OK, back we go. More Handle on the News with Amy,
- 18:24Speaker 2: Neil and me.
- 18:26Speaker 4: All right.
- 18:26Speaker 5: While many companies are firing, Amazon is hiring, launching their
- 18:32Speaker 5: major holiday hiring drive, plans to bring more than 300,000
- 18:37Speaker 5: workers for its U.S. operations this holiday season. Of course,
- 18:41Speaker 5: as much as we hate corporations and big business, we
- 18:45Speaker 5: love business. simplicity, convenience, more than anything else.
- 18:50Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 18:50Speaker 2: That's a lot of people.
- 18:52Speaker 4: This is seasonal because of course everybody ships things like
- 18:54Speaker 4: crazy over there. That's a lot of people.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:57Speaker 4: 20 bucks starts at 20 bucks an hour and goes
- 19:00Speaker 4: up to, I think 24. And I think benefits, I
- 19:04Speaker 4: don't know if benefits accrue when you're a seasonal worker,
- 19:07Speaker 4: but that does not include benefits. Although I know someone
- 19:11Speaker 4: who has worked in one of those fulfillment centers at
- 19:14Speaker 4: Amazon and And she said it was just brutal.
- 19:18Speaker 2: I mean, brutal.
- 19:20Speaker 4: I can only imagine. The speed at which they want
- 19:23Speaker 4: you to work. And you're on your feet for eight
- 19:27Speaker 4: hours a day. And man, you're running, I mean, those boxes,
- 19:31Speaker 4: it's a tough go.
- 19:32Speaker 2: It really is.
- 19:33Speaker 4: That's why robots will do it soon. It's hard because
- 19:36Speaker 4: at this point, robot, you know, the boxes are all
- 19:38Speaker 4: different sizes. And I think that's- They'll figure it out.
- 19:41Speaker 2: Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Of course they'll figure it out.
- 19:43Speaker 6: Well, your info is still out there, but there's a
- 19:46Speaker 6: settlement that's been reached with the state of California, Chrome
- 19:48Speaker 6: Holding Company, which used to be 23andMe, is set to
- 19:52Speaker 6: pay six million dollars to the state of California to
- 19:54Speaker 6: settle allegations. that the company failed to protect consumers' genetic
- 19:59Speaker 6: data and also sold the data without the consent of
- 20:03Speaker 6: the people who were using the service.
- 20:06Speaker 4: Have you ever– have you done 23andMe to figure out–
- 20:09Speaker 4: Hell no.
- 20:10Speaker 2: I haven't either.
- 20:12Speaker 4: I'm not interested in who my grandparents or great-grandparents are.
- 20:16Speaker 2: I don't know. I hate my family now.
- 20:18Speaker 5: I thought it's a good idea to give your DNA
- 20:20Speaker 5: to someone like that and that you don't know where
- 20:23Speaker 5: it's going to be used.
- 20:24Speaker 4: I never understood that.
- 20:26Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, I've spent– never mind. I was going
- 20:29Speaker 2: to make that up.
- 20:30Speaker 1: No, no.
- 20:30Speaker 2: I know. I know where your DNA goes. That's different. Okay.
- 20:34Speaker 2: That is very different.
- 20:35Speaker 4: All right. Moving on. All right.
- 20:37Speaker 5: Mayor Bass in the news again released a statement just
- 20:42Speaker 5: yesterday announcing plans for some major changes in bringing temporary
- 20:46Speaker 5: relief to L.A. Department of Water and Power customers. We've
- 20:50Speaker 5: been hearing big time about these changes. massive skyrocketing utility
- 20:55Speaker 5: bills because of the, you know, multiple back-to-back heat waves
- 21:00Speaker 5: we've been having. And people are pissed. So they're calling
- 21:05Speaker 5: for investigations, all these things.
- 21:07Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 21:09Speaker 5: That she's looking to get relief for.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Many of these people.
- 21:14Speaker 4: There was a problem before with LEDWP, but it had
- 21:16Speaker 4: to do with the computer problem.
- 21:18Speaker 2: It was a glitch in the building.
- 21:20Speaker 6: Wasn't that when they were switching over to a.
- 21:21Speaker 4: New billing system? Yeah, and then there was just, but
- 21:23Speaker 4: that was a computer glitch. This one, they're trying to
- 21:26Speaker 4: figure out how do people's energy bills triple, even though
- 21:31Speaker 4: it is hot or hotter than, let's say, previous summer.
- 21:35Speaker 4: It's not triple. I mean, that's kind of crazy. So,
- 21:38Speaker 4: and of course, the poster child of this one is
- 21:39Speaker 4: Cantor's Deli on Fairfax. Been around for a million years.
- 21:44Speaker 4: $ 35, 000 bill they just got hit with. And it's, and
- 21:48Speaker 4: DWP is the least expensive utility in California. If you're
- 21:52Speaker 4: in Edison land, it's twice as much. And where I live,
- 21:56Speaker 4: it is the most expensive utility in the country.
- 21:59Speaker 6: Good.
- 21:59Speaker 4: That's why everybody around here has a solar system. Because,
- 22:03Speaker 4: I mean, you can't afford to pay. San Diego Gas
- 22:06Speaker 4: and Electric is... in Orange County controls a lot of
- 22:09Speaker 4: Orange County. So they're going to try to have to
- 22:12Speaker 4: figure out something and we don't even know what it is.
- 22:14Speaker 4: And so she's saying, we're going to have, we're going
- 22:16Speaker 4: to give people help. Well, you know, where do you
- 22:18Speaker 4: get help out of the budget? And how do you
- 22:21Speaker 4: get more money out of the budget?
- 22:23Speaker 2: What do you think? You have to raise taxes. It's
- 22:24Speaker 2: a lot of fun.
- 22:26Speaker 6: Ooh la la. A travel warning. The U.S. Embassy in
- 22:29Speaker 6: France has warned Americans to steer clear of the protests
- 22:34Speaker 6: that have erupted around France. The riot's fueled by several things,
- 22:38Speaker 6: education funding, rising cost of living, mass migration. They've been
- 22:44Speaker 6: reported across France. Now they have curfews in place. So
- 22:48Speaker 6: apparently it was quieter last night because they've got curfews,
- 22:51Speaker 6: but they're planning some massive protests this weekend.
- 22:54Speaker 2: Yeah, they tend to do massive student protests.
- 22:57Speaker 4: If you go on YouTube and look up 1968 Paris
- 23:02Speaker 4: protests or French protests and demonstrations, students. And literally, well,
- 23:08Speaker 4: I came. Did they bring down the government? Came very
- 23:10Speaker 4: close to bringing down the government. to establish a new government,
- 23:13Speaker 4: not a new way of government, but the government itself.
- 23:16Speaker 4: It's a parliamentary system. So we'll see what happens. At
- 23:19Speaker 4: this point, Macron, who is not very popular, how he's
- 23:22Speaker 4: dealing with these people. But I think how many people
- 23:24Speaker 4: have been arrested in the thousands have been arrested so far.
- 23:28Speaker 2: All right, let's go ahead and take a break.
- 23:29Speaker 4: And we will come back and finish up Handel on
- 23:32Speaker 4: the news on this Wednesday morning.
- 23:35Speaker 3: You're listening to Bill Handel on demand from KFI AM 640.
- 23:42Speaker 4: Okay. Let's finish up handle on news on this Wednesday with, uh, Amy,
- 23:46Speaker 4: Neil and me. All right.
- 23:49Speaker 5: The Tulare County elections office. That's where my dad was
- 23:52Speaker 5: born in central Valley was the elections office.
- 23:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 23:56Speaker 5: It was really weird, but you know, that's a weird
- 23:59Speaker 5: place to be born.
- 24:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:01Speaker 5: No, in Tulare it's, uh, that's picking country there for Mex, Mexicanos.
- 24:07Speaker 4: Uh, all right.
- 24:07Speaker 5: So, uh, The Central Valley there, it was suddenly getting
- 24:11Speaker 5: peppered with a bunch of questions. A lot of voters
- 24:14Speaker 5: there are curious as to what's going on because residents
- 24:19Speaker 5: are getting. like multiple duplicate vote by mail ballots. Oh,
- 24:25Speaker 5: in a particularly Latino area. Interesting. No voter fraud. However,
- 24:32Speaker 5: there's a reason for it, Neil. Would you like to
- 24:34Speaker 5: share the reason? Much to the, yeah. So it's agricultural
- 24:39Speaker 5: area there. They're surrounded by walnut, almond orchards, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 24:44Speaker 5: They received extra ballots because of an error by the
- 24:46Speaker 5: private printing vendor. So the county registrar of voters noted
- 24:52Speaker 5: the there's safeguards that are in place to keep the
- 24:55Speaker 5: extra ballots from being counted.
- 24:58Speaker 2: So, yeah. And the printer said it's our fault. We
- 25:00Speaker 2: screwed up. Now, I have a question.
- 25:02Speaker 4: How much do you think this incident is going to
- 25:05Speaker 4: lend to the argument that there's fraudulent voting going on?
- 25:08Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 25:09Speaker 4: I'm saying quite a bit because that's just another nail
- 25:13Speaker 4: in the coffin or another nail in the argument that
- 25:17Speaker 4: fraud is happening. But see, that's a normal... Well, it's
- 25:21Speaker 4: not that normal, but what I'm saying is... That is
- 25:23Speaker 4: a normal possibility of problems.
- 25:26Speaker 1: Of course.
- 25:26Speaker 2: Of course it is. All I'm doing is.
- 25:30Speaker 4: Those people that are saying that there is widespread fraud
- 25:33Speaker 4: in the mail-in ballots, and this is mail-in, incidentally, are going.
- 25:39Speaker 2: To say, see, proof positive. There are two ballots going out.
- 25:42Speaker 4: Look at this.
- 25:42Speaker 2: Look at the fraud.
- 25:43Speaker 5: It doesn't help that it happens to be in an
- 25:46Speaker 5: area where illegal immigration is probably.
- 25:48Speaker 2: No kidding. And California. And, and, and.
- 25:53Speaker 6: Holding parents accountable for the kids, the 13-year-old boy.
- 25:58Speaker 6: Who died after he lost control of a speeding electric
- 26:02Speaker 6: motorcycle and crashed it in Garden Grove. His parents have
- 26:07Speaker 6: now been charged in connection with his death. Prosecutors say
- 26:10Speaker 6: the parents had been repeatedly warned about the teen's reckless riding.
- 26:15Speaker 6: He had been injured before, including breaking his leg just
- 26:18Speaker 6: six months before the crash that killed him.
- 26:20Speaker 1: Jeez.
- 26:21Speaker 6: Facing a felony count of child endangerment and misdemeanor count
- 26:25Speaker 6: of contributing to the delinquency.
- 26:27Speaker 4: At what point do you say, okay, you're done with
- 26:30Speaker 4: the e-bike and you yank the e-bike.
- 26:33Speaker 2: Finished. When something like this happens. Yeah.
- 26:37Speaker 6: He was going 43 miles an hour.
- 26:39Speaker 2: Yeah, which is certainly enough. Yes.
- 26:41Speaker 4: Holy smokes.
- 26:42Speaker 6: Yeah, that's sad.
- 26:43Speaker 4: All right. Bay Area woman making history.
- 26:46Speaker 5: Roughly 900 miles swim. As she went the length of
- 26:51Speaker 5: California and she navigated hurricanes, tropical storms, and it took months.
- 26:58Speaker 2: Yeah, there you go.
- 26:59Speaker 4: Super, she said, grueling and magical.
- 27:02Speaker 2: Magical.
- 27:03Speaker 4: For 33 years old. Good for her.
- 27:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:06Speaker 4: Endurance swimmer. The only thing that would be better is
- 27:09Speaker 4: if her last hundred yards she had been eaten by
- 27:11Speaker 4: a shark. You know, some people are just pushed. That
- 27:15Speaker 4: would be entertaining. I've always wondered about why people do this,
- 27:19Speaker 4: stuff like this. Because I guess these sports people will,
- 27:22Speaker 4: you know, I don't understand free climbing, too. I mean,
- 27:25Speaker 4: people go up thousands of feet without ropes or anything,
- 27:29Speaker 4: just with their fingers.
- 27:30Speaker 5: They're pushing themselves. They wonder why you're falling asleep in
- 27:33Speaker 5: the afternoon on your couch while watching TV.
- 27:36Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 27:36Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, that's a job.
- 27:38Speaker 4: Endurance couch potato. Yes, yes, absolutely. That is my volunteer job.
- 27:46Speaker 4: I get paid in the morning, and then I do
- 27:49Speaker 4: my volunteer work in the afternoon. What a giver.
- 27:53Speaker 6: Don't inject that. Dozens of vials of a compounded GLP-1
- 27:57Speaker 6: injection have been recalled. Apparently, they're not sure that they're sterile.
- 28:04Speaker 6: Apothecary Pharma. It's a compounding pharmacy. It's voluntarily recalled 22
- 28:10Speaker 6: vials of terzepatide injections last month due to a lack
- 28:14Speaker 6: of assurance of sterility. And apparently exposure to the product
- 28:19Speaker 6: could cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, even
- 28:24Speaker 6: though they say those are rather low. It doesn't seem
- 28:27Speaker 6: like a very big recall.
- 28:29Speaker 2: Yeah, it doesn't.
- 28:30Speaker 1: 22 of them.
- 28:31Speaker 2: Okay, let's finish up with this one, Neil.
- 28:33Speaker 4: Sure. This is a story that really got some international
- 28:36Speaker 4: attention because it's so weird.
- 28:37Speaker 5: I got to tell you, man, I'm sick of illegal
- 28:40Speaker 5: aliens coming and committing crimes here in the U.S. You
- 28:44Speaker 5: got a Canadian man convicted of animal cruelty charges on
- 28:49Speaker 5: Monday for snatching a flamingo named Peachy from its enclosure
- 28:54Speaker 5: at a Las Vegas hotel. Just sad. These people come
- 28:59Speaker 5: over here.
- 28:59Speaker 4: I know.
- 29:01Speaker 5: Their lily white stupidity and their culture.
- 29:04Speaker 2: They grabbed the flamingo, put it in the hotel room.
- 29:07Speaker 4: What a wingnut.
- 29:08Speaker 5: Ontario, Canada is where he's from.
- 29:13Speaker 2: That's right.
- 29:14Speaker 4: Lake of America. And since Ann puts these stories together, Ann,
- 29:19Speaker 4: we're done. No more stories of flamingos being stolen from hotels.
- 29:24Speaker 4: Got to back off on them. That's enough of these.
- 29:26Speaker 2: Okay. I liked it. I know.
- 29:28Speaker 4: It's a great story. It is.
- 29:31Speaker 5: It just shows about the horror stories of our immigration system.
- 29:36Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 29:36Speaker 4: Those Canadians stealing flamingos. OK, we're done, guys. Coming up, beaches,
- 29:43Speaker 4: a little bit of climate change. And guess what's happening
- 29:46Speaker 4: to our beaches? I know we see them. disappearing before
- 29:50Speaker 4: our very eyes. Oh, it's going to get far worse
- 29:52Speaker 4: than that.
- 29:53Speaker 2: So if you.
- 29:55Speaker 4: Happen to be thinking about buying a house on the beach,
- 29:57Speaker 4: it's going to be cheap. And if you own a
- 29:59Speaker 4: house on the water, you're done. We'll be right back
- 30:02Speaker 4: with that. KFI AM 640.
- 30:05Speaker 1: You've been listening to The Bill Handel Show. Catch my
- 30:07Speaker 1: show Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and
- 30:11Speaker 1: anytime on demand on the iHeartRadio app.
