- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: I hate everybody, Chris Miles and I back for another episode of Cheesy Popcorn.
- 0:06[SPEAKER_00]: Chris, as you know, is the host of New On Music Grow, How's it going, everybody?
- 0:10[SPEAKER_00]: And I am the co-host of Can I call you Dad with my son, Andrew, that we just finished season two.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_00]: And you're gonna wanna watch that, hasn't gone up yet, but there is a fantastic pickleball challenge that we did.
- 0:23[SPEAKER_00]: And anyway, Chris and I last episode talked about reviewing Nobody Two.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_00]: because we both saw nobody won.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_00]: However, if you live in the Westmont Downers Grove area, you may have noticed that Monday there was an incredible rain, and we weren't able to get out to the show.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_00]: Most of the streets are underrepresented.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_01]: And for those of you who listen to land, we're talking about Westmont and Downers Grove Illinois.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_01]: So basically like the Chicago land area, got hit with some pretty torrential rain.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_01]: So unfortunately, we didn't get to do that.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_01]: And we didn't get to see nobody, too.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_01]: So we're not going to be reviewing a movie, but instead one of the things we've discussed about cheesy popcorn is that it doesn't have to just be movies.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_01]: We don't talk about it.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_01]: It can be TV shows.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_00]: See, I mean, popcorn watching TV.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I was watching Squid Game episode, season three episode four last night, I think.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_01]: And I was eating popcorn as well.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_00]: And see, I'm one of those guys that I mix potato chips in one of my popcorn.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_00]: Ooh.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_01]: That's how, so what's your go to potato chip, bud?
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: Well...
- 1:27[SPEAKER_00]: Right now, it's clansies at all these because they're only a dollar, seventy-nine.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_00]: I refuse to pay five dollars for jays.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_01]: But it's just a traditional potato chip.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_01]: It's not like sour cream and chive or anything.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_00]: That's any potato chip.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_00]: I put barbecue, I put sour cumin onion, regular, the kettle, or the kettle.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_00]: I don't prefer the kettle.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_00]: But cooked.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_00]: When I was single, over my wife goes out with her girlfriends,
- 1:56[SPEAKER_00]: It's cheetos, chips, and like, uh, receives them, receives pieces, goes in one bowl.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_01]: That's an interesting column.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: And then I get to put on the godfather and watch movies.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_00]: I can't watch when she's home.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_01]: I love how you go when I was a single man or when my wife's not home, right?
- 2:14[SPEAKER_01]: That's just a single one.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_01]: It's so relatable.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you get that bachelor time back all over again.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_01]: So today we're going to discuss dramas.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to, because we kind of thought nobody, too, was a drama.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_01]: Well, we didn't kind of.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_01]: We thought nobody, too.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_01]: We know not nobody, too, is a drama.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_01]: It's an action drama.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_01]: But like I said, we talked about cheesy popcorn also talking about TV shows.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_01]: So one of your favorite TV shows of all time is a comedy.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_01]: And it's actually a spin-off.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_01]: No less.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, it is.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_01]: From a show back in, I want to say the early eighties.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe if not the early eighties the late eighties for sure called cheers, which had a great song that like everybody knows because of course everybody knows your name.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_01]: That was the name of the song by the way folks see how I slipped in there.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_01]: So, Fraser.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_01]: Fraser.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_01]: What are your thoughts and why should we as a community, a cheesy popcorn community?
- 3:06[SPEAKER_01]: Why should we watch it?
- 3:07[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I think, first of all, the character was introduced to cheers, and it was a contrast to everybody else in the bar.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_00]: Because everybody else in the bar were bar people.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, Norm and Cliff, and Dancin as the bartender, were all counter to Fraser, who came in, Kelsey Grammar,
- 3:30[SPEAKER_00]: fabulous.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, and he comes in as a psychiatrist.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_00]: He really is out of place in the bar, and yet it all works.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_01]: But now his girlfriend was in the bar too in cheers we're talking about.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_01]: She was out of place to begin with.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_01]: Everyone else in the bar was kind of like your everyday kind of person, like correct.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_01]: Was Cliff the mailman or was the mailman?
- 3:52[SPEAKER_00]: The norm was the guy drinking because he didn't want to go home.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_01]: And did we ever, did we ever find out what Norm did for a living?
- 3:57[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think he was an accountant.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_00]: Accountant.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, and accounting.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_00]: There he was an accountant.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, stressed out because he's dealing with numbers on that.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_00]: And who was, I can't think of the actual selling long, right?
- 4:07[SPEAKER_00]: Shelling on.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_00]: Was you right?
- 4:09[SPEAKER_00]: She was the first counselor character.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_00]: And she was the counter character to re-appear when
- 4:15[SPEAKER_00]: basically.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_00]: But they were both waitresses, but she was, you know, very high in and Carla was very comedy.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_00]: And then Frazier came in and he was, he took it up a little bit higher, even than Diane, even though they ended up dating and almost got married at one point in the show.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_01]: I remember having a girlfriend, though, in cheers.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_01]: Wasn't there some, there was a curly-haired girl wasn't Carl Lillith.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's it.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: Well, that wasn't original.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_00]: Originally he was dating Shelley Long.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, okay.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Diane, who was not dating Sam anymore.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_00]: Got it.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_00]: And then they kind of hit it off because they were both, you know, very intellectual.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_00]: And then when Diane got out of the picture because she left them at the altar, that's when he met, they brought Lilith and who was even more hybride.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_00]: Then Fraser and very,
- 5:03[SPEAKER_01]: very frigid would be a good word for Lilith Lilith Lilith character reminded me of a cousin's wife that I had.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how that relationship would be to me, but she was very like nose in the air, kind of you know.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to do this today.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_01]: And that's like Lilith and her I was just like every time I saw chairs and I saw Lilith that was like exactly what I keyed in on.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_00]: And then he sent a humor.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_00]: And she tried.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_00]: No, very, very dry.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_00]: And she played that role beautifully.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: And they carried that over into Fraser too.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_00]: She would come in on certain episodes and keep that going even though when Fraser, the Fraser show started, they were already divorced, which was wonderful.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_00]: They were separated but still together so they could bring her in and have that.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_00]: kind of frigid tension that they had at cheers.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_00]: You know, Kelsey Grammar was perfect for that role.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_01]: And the funny thing is, is that funny thing that I may be not the right word, but the coincidence there is that Kelsey in the role of Fraser for the show Fraser is actually now a radio host doing like psychological and valuations and like giving dating advice and things of that nature as well.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_01]: So
- 6:16[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, we gave you a little bit of review on cheers, which by the way, would be like my favorites to come of all time.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_00]: And it's a rerun.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_00]: So people should go back and watch the very first.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, when he first moves to Seattle, the very first episode really sets the show up and I will give you one caveat to this because
- 6:37[SPEAKER_00]: it's it's it's funnier if you have a good frame of reference about a lot of things like opera and literature and things like that you will miss some stuff if you don't have a little bit that's the writing is kind of highbrow not highbrow were
- 6:56[SPEAKER_00]: it throws you completely out of the room, but there's some subtle stuff that if you don't know, edipus and some of the other characters that the him and Niles refer to, the nice thing is him and Niles are there, but his dad is not, Mr. Mahoney who passed away, he got less, great Chicago actor, second city, and the other character, Daphne, they kind of bring it and rise, bring it all back down, and then it's the moments when Niles and Fraser together, if you have a little bit of an expanded
- 7:25[SPEAKER_00]: knowledge of those artful things, you'll find it much funnier.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_01]: I think if you do well in trivia, you'll probably enjoy Fraser a lot because I'm kind of one of those people that I wouldn't call myself an idiots of hunt, but I would say that I have a general knowledge of enough things to do really well in trivia.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_01]: I forget the phrase that somebody used to say, but you know, it's
- 7:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's about having a knowledge about pretty much everything like jack of all trades, master, and not the way that I put it.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_01]: So, Frazier, two thumbs up for the most of us to coin a phrase, if you will.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_01]: I think Cheers is another great one to go back and watch as well too.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_01]: So, two great TV shows for you to look at in case you haven't seen them.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_01]: And if you have seen them, why not go back and we watch them because the funny thing about shows and even movies for that matter is
- 8:13[SPEAKER_01]: to be quite honest with yourself and with myself, watching them just once is not enough.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_01]: If you really enjoy, you gotta go back and watch it again.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_01]: One of the greatest things my film teacher, I think I might have said this already.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_01]: One of the greatest things one of my film teachers ever told me was that when you watch it the first time you watch it and watch everything that's in the center pay attention to the dialogue, get the idea for the story.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_01]: Then you watch it again and you watch the outside.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_01]: So you're not focusing on the main actors that are center screen, you're looking at the stuff that's going on around them.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_01]: And you pick up on so many more details and eventually you'll learn how to do all of that in one setting.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_01]: And it's really cool when you can get it.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_00]: And that's critical if you're a Mel Birch fan, by the way.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_00]: If you're a Mel Birch fan and you're not looking at the background and while you listen to the dialogue, you miss so much.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_01]: And speaking of that space ball twos has officially been announced that they're going to be doing that again, so that's going to be interesting as well, too.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_01]: Speaking of watching things in the background, what's coming out this week?
- 9:09[SPEAKER_01]: What are some of the new releases that are coming out in movie land?
- 9:13[SPEAKER_01]: There's a movie at their called Honey Don't.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_01]: And unfortunately right now, you can't get any information on the watch for that.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_01]: Whatever reason there being like
- 9:22[SPEAKER_01]: We'll just say but heads about not giving you any.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_01]: So I can't even give you a synopsis of what the movie's about.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_00]: But I can take a guess because I'm guessing that it's probably like what happens at my house all the time when I go to get that extra piece of cake and I hear honey don't.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm guessing it's a married couple and the guys a little worried like me and every time he goes to get a second helping of cake or pie, his wife says honey don't.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_00]: There we go.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_00]: So there you go.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_01]: That's nothing to go on because I'm guessing it's action drama.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's an action drama.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_01]: That's for sure.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_01]: But again, not much else to give you about that.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_01]: Also, trust relay and splitsville all coming out this week.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_01]: Splitsville was the one that sounded the most interesting to me.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_01]: But I think what we're going to do next week, I think he's we're going to try to go see nobody.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_01]: Lord Willan and the Cric don't rise.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_01]: I think we're going to try to go see nobody too.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll have the review for that on the next episode.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_01]: But one of the things we talked about is what we were going to talk about as far as the overall presence of the topic of the show is concerned.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_01]: So we were going to do the review on nobody too.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_01]: So we were going to talk about dramas and that's going to lead us into like the mean potatoes of the thing now.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_01]: We have shortened down
- 10:40[SPEAKER_01]: our picks so to speak, but there are always a couple other great ones out there and maybe eventually we'll get back around to talking about some other great movies to watch a different genre and stuff like that.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_01]: But dramas is the topic for this week and again we're doing like first pick and then like I guess runner up would be or optimal mention or something whatever we decided to call it.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm going to go first because we talked about in the very first episode and of our and I talked about our most favorite movies of all time.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_01]: And the number one pick for me in that of all time was also going to be my number one pick as far as dramas is concerned.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_01]: I am a huge, huge Stephen King fan.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_01]: I'm an even bigger Morgan Freeman fan.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_01]: And up until I think like the early nineties, I wasn't a big fan of this particular actor, but Tim Robbins.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_01]: has become one of my favorite actors of all time as well too.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_01]: So the movie that I'm picking for best drama all time, Shawshank Redemption.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_01]: I love, I love movie set in like the forties and the thirties, the forties and the fifties and early sixties.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what it is about that.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_01]: fashion, those eras, but it just, it was so, not so simple, but it just seemed like everything just seemed to have a flare to it, you know, like a nice kind of thing, especially like the thirties and the forties, like I love the Art Deco look and things of that nature.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_01]: Now that doesn't play here in Trashank, because I think Trashank was set in like the late fifties early sixties.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_01]: So that butts up against with my other favorite of all time stand by me, because that isn't just that in about the same time.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_01]: written by Stephen King as well, too.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_01]: But Shawshakeremption, there is not a moment in that movie where you're going to be bored.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_01]: There is so much stuff going on.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_01]: Great dialogue, great screen writing, great acting from two actors.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_01]: And at that time, Tim wasn't really a household name.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_01]: So Morgan was the one who had the big credit on the, the ball at the James Whibmore.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_01]: Well, okay, James Whibmore.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_00]: Very important role.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_00]: Of course, he was great in that.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a big James Whitmore fan.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_00]: We're going back to the days when he played Andrew Carngin, Oklahoma.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_00]: I played Andrew Carngin, Oklahoma in college.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_00]: Twenty-one performances of Oklahoma.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_00]: And I was Andrew Carngin over northeast and west.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, cool.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_00]: So my runner up is Crimson Tide.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, it then's the Ellen Jean hack.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, then's also a great actor.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_01]: Jean Jean also great in his own right as well, too.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_00]: So just that I thought the writing was great.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_00]: The the acting was tremendous.
- 13:15[SPEAKER_00]: There were a lot of supporting worlds of the guy from the sopranos is in a tune.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_00]: I can't think of his name.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_00]: They played the Tony soprano.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_00]: He's in that.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot of good side character actors in there that played really well.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_00]: What really got me in that was, and I've watched it probably four times, and I could watch it five more times easily, is that having been in the Navy, they must have had like one of the best Navy consultants in this on the set, because it is so realistic, and having been in four years in the Navy, I can tell you that it's very, very realistic.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_00]: Probably the most realistic Navy movie I've ever seen.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_00]: And that's, uh, that's saying a lot.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_00]: I've seen a lot of Navy movies.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_01]: And, and I think isn't that, uh, who's that, the guy, the author?
- 14:08[SPEAKER_01]: This is one of those.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_01]: It's, um,
- 14:11[SPEAKER_01]: Clancy, right?
- 14:12[SPEAKER_01]: Clancy, this is one of those movies that features that his character from all of those, like, oh, no, no, no.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, no, no.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_01]: I thought this was, oh, it's hard for Red October.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_01]: That's the one that starts the character.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_01]: That, yeah, okay.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_00]: No, this is a whole different, there's no recurring character from anywhere in this.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_00]: It's totally original.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_00]: It's completely believable.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_00]: The ending is fabulous.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_00]: The first time I saw it, the ending really took me by surprise.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_00]: And again, the two of them, the chemistry between Denzel and Hackman was wonderful.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_00]: But my number one pick, and then you did your number one already.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_00]: You want to do your alternate?
- 14:54[SPEAKER_01]: No, you can do your number one, and then I'll finish it off with my runner up or whatever you want to call it.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_00]: My alternate goes all the way back.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_00]: I want to say it in nineteen fifty.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_00]: And they remade this movie with
- 15:07[SPEAKER_00]: with what's his name.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_00]: He, uh, he's a really good looking actor for a long time.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_00]: But then that narrows down to the wrestling movie where he was a wrestler with Marisa Tomay, one an Oscar for it.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, he was in Iron Man too.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_00]: I can't think of his name.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_00]: But at any rate, they read that this movie and it was not well-remade at all, sadly.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, it's called Desperate Hours.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_00]: The original is with Humphrey Bullgarth.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_00]: And the original is unbelievable.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_01]: The actor you were thinking of is Mickey Rooney.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_00]: Mickey Rooney.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_00]: Mickey Rooney.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_00]: Mickey Rooney.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_00]: Mickey Rooney.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_00]: Mickey Rooney.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_00]: Mickey Rooney.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's dope.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_00]: The original I Mickey Rooney.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_00]: Well, with Humphrey Borger, the original actor, and I can't think of his name either, and I know him really well.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_00]: If you look up the original desperate hours, we can get his name too.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_00]: Again, it's one of those movies that, from the moment the plot starts,
- 16:08[SPEAKER_00]: It's non-stop.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_00]: And the ending is another amazing, it's all black and white, by the way, which is how it should be.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_00]: The ending is, you will not see the ending coming.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, whatever, I don't care how much you watch movies, you will not see this ending coming.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_00]: And I wish I could think of his name, he's one of my favorite actually.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_00]: He's been a lot of stuff that I like.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_01]: Do you know what character he plays by each other?
- 16:34[SPEAKER_01]: He plays the dad.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_01]: Daniel Hillard, maybe?
- 16:39[SPEAKER_01]: Well, Frederick March.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_01]: Frederick March.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_01]: That's sort of the character he plays a Daniel Hiller.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_00]: Frederick March.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_00]: So Frederick March and Humphrey Bogart and the two other characters that are in there play the roles really, really well, too.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_00]: But these guys, it's, you know, it's almost like it's just a two of them.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_00]: Like if you hear some of the gin game,
- 16:59[SPEAKER_00]: with whom Kronen and his wife Jessica Tandy.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_01]: That's the way a lot of those movies back then were.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_01]: Like one of the, when we first talked about this podcast, we gave each other a list of like our favorite movies of all time and it was like fifty movies long.
- 17:11[SPEAKER_01]: And one of them that was on there was African Queen.
- 17:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_01]: And uh-huh, two people.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, and that movie is literally home free boat guard and Catherine Hepburn for the majority.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it starts off with more actors, but eventually those two are just basically on a boat together.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_01]: And that's it.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that was one of the, I think that's one of the keys of will even go as far back to say, it's like, Forty's and Fifty Cinema.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of that stuff.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_01]: The early stuff was literally just two people working together.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's one of the highlights.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe the most five, like this has, this has the three people, it's Humvee Borger and two other guys.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_00]: And then it's for marching his wife and there's a kid, his two kids.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_00]: But it centered around the two of them.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_00]: with the support roles.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, that was what was nice about those older movies is that you didn't need.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_00]: First of all, you didn't need a bunch of explosions and special effects and all this other stuff.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_00]: You just need a good acting, believable acting.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm telling you, Frederick March, man, he carries that role.
- 18:16[SPEAKER_00]: Bogart is always Bogart.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_00]: He's always going to be good.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_00]: But Frederick March pulled this role off so
- 18:23[SPEAKER_00]: beautifully.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_00]: If you haven't seen it, go check it out.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_00]: And then put comments down here and tell us what you thought.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_01]: I have not seen it.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_01]: I've seen the remake.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the remake was, you know, the problem with a lot of remakes was desperately made.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you know, they're made like twenty some year, they've, they've, the doors open for graphic violence and language.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_00]: And, and I think that, in this, for this movie, and that works for some of you like, um,
- 18:51[SPEAKER_00]: die hard die hard and some of those movies it works for this movie The fact that none of that was in there is what makes the movie so great in my opinion
- 19:03[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, definitely one.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to probably go right from the library, which by the way, uh, which is where we are, which is where we are.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_01]: We, uh, are our studio got a little flooded due to the weather.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_01]: So we actually checked out, uh, local library.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_00]: So if you're in downers, so we'll give a little bit of a downers library to Charlie and John who helped us set everything up by the way to here.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully they'll listen to the podcast.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully they will.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_01]: And then they're going to hear their little, uh, their little heads up, little little shout out.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, that's where we ended up a great opportunity for you.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_01]: If you're trying to get into podcasting or if you're just looking for something to do, check out your local library.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot of great resources there, videos, books, some even have board games now that you can take out for like a week or two like the Downers Grove Library here has.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_01]: I think they have them in West and West.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_00]: You can run out of DVD player for free if you don't have one to watch movies and and they got an amazing library movies here, by the way, too.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, probably find desperate hours here.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_00]: Well, take a look when we when we leave for the not the Mickey work window.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, I don't like him as an actor anyways.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_01]: Like I don't think I don't think there's any I mean, I saw a wrestler and I was like, okay, this is okay, but I didn't get the asker for that personally, but
- 20:15[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was so I think the reason why it happened is because when that movie came out I think it was at the height of like when the WWE was like was it's thing yeah and I think it was but I think that's when it went from WWE to WWE it's a matter of fact and it was just one of those movies that drew the people like the young crowd at that time and drew me the movie was was decent I mean I'm not gonna it's not gonna be on one of my
- 20:40[SPEAKER_01]: It was okay, but I think the, and I shouldn't say this, but I make his face at that time, you know, from some of the other situations that he decided to do with my successor wise or whatever, I think helped him.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, it did.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_01]: It looked like he got beat up, but anyway, so we won't, I digress.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we check out your library.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_01]: It's a great resource for a lot of things.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't know how to do it.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I'll always say this.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, any of them.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_00]: They all do.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_00]: They all do.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_00]: This one, for some reason, I take this one.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if it's because they just pull my money into it or a better funding.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_00]: But we lived in Dallas for years.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_00]: You lived there now.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_00]: And this was where we came here all the time.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_00]: And there wasn't any, this is brand new, this media room.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_00]: But I mean, they have everything.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_00]: You don't have to just come, just show up.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_00]: And they'll help you set up.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_01]: It's a great place.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely awesome again.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you to all this staff here at the Donald's Grove Library as well for helping us out now on to my runner up now I had a really hard time picking one because one of the movies in this category is actually a
- 21:42[SPEAKER_01]: a play that I directed it was actually the first play I ever directed as a director in Westmont as a matter of fact that was called one floor of the cook was nest and I did it in the round and I had the patience walk around
- 21:57[SPEAKER_01]: the audience and everyone said, well, I told him if you want to sit down next to an audience member, just sit down next to an audience member.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_01]: So it was kind of cool.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_01]: It was kind of like an interactive, a sane asylum, so to speak, which is where most of one floor over the Cookers nest, the story itself takes place.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_01]: Now, the movie is filmed all over the place.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_01]: And each feature is Jackson, because it's not, I decided not to pick it.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_01]: Instead, as I was looking through the drama and stuff, I was like, oh, yeah.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_01]: So for me, the runner-up,
- 22:27[SPEAKER_01]: Goodwill hunting with Robin Williams and a very young Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_01]: I even think they wrote it.
- 22:36[SPEAKER_01]: They wrote it and I think it was their first movie debut as a matter of fact.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_01]: Such a great movie.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_01]: We had to watch it in school in high school.
- 22:48[SPEAKER_01]: And that's where I saw it first.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_01]: That's one of the great things about where I went to school is a lot of our English teachers were very much about showing you movies of the time and getting you involved in like media and things of that nature.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_01]: And I'll tell you what, I'm so glad they did because honestly, when I think of dramas, goodwill hunting top five.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_01]: automatically has to be for sure.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_01]: It's just such a great screenplay.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_01]: Matt Damon doing such an awesome job.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's like what let's say, ninety ninety seven.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_01]: So what in two years will be in two thousand seven.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_01]: So what is that thirty years?
- 23:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_01]: So it'll be selling.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to thirty thirty eighth year anniversary coming up here in a couple of years as well, too.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_01]: So
- 23:27[SPEAKER_01]: something else to think about as well.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_01]: You can find it at anyone in your library.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_01]: If your library doesn't have goodwill hunting, then there's something wrong with your library.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_01]: But just an awesome flick.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_01]: Check it out.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_01]: Great story.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_01]: Such a tear jerker in certain areas as well too.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I agree.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_01]: One of the other than one of the other ones I thought of is another movie with Robin Williams.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_01]: I thought about dead poets society, but I'm going to save that for something else.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, those are my, those are my two picks for the movie.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_00]: As you know, I turned seventy one this month.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_00]: So we didn't have movies.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_00]: We just had film strips and a record player that would
- 24:03[SPEAKER_01]: play the dialogue and then we'd hear me so they can move to the next film strip don't don't kid us you had one of those things where you could put the cartridge in the back you spun the wheel I was like to go you go I have one of those I do two that was we had in high school I think those were I think the ones I have all have like loony tunes cartoons on some like that but anyway and then there's view masters as well too wow we're going back
- 24:29[SPEAKER_00]: One full over the kukus nest.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_00]: See, I've always seen that as a comedy, kind of a dark comedy.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_00]: Why?
- 24:36[SPEAKER_00]: Because there's just a lot of humor in there when he does the baseball game, the Danny DeVito character, the the Indian that doesn't speak until the very end, but they get him in the basketball game, the ace.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_00]: Just keep putting the ball in the net.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_01]: The baseball game is not in the play at all.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, they didn't put that in there.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_01]: There is a ton of stuff in the movie.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_01]: that was never in any of the original stuff, and they did that because they needed to do stuff in the movie to make it different for the scene-wise, because the play takes place entirely in the assain of style.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so see, the play you might have been more drama as you're, I saw, I always saw one flow over to Couguznes, as more of a sort of war, the roses kind of dark comedy.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_01]: personally it's got it's there there's definitely some comedic parts in it for sure but the overall theme of it I would say is more of a drama it could be like a drama dark comedy yeah well so I think I think it was a dark comedy it was that was what they were going for kind of an eye it when it came out it was kind of an eye opening into like mental health in and of itself
- 25:38[SPEAKER_01]: and especially because it came out in like the late sixties early seventies it was like whoa what's going on here and when the script got rewritten in like the late eighties early nineties they started including like riddle in for example there's a reference to riddle in in the script and things of that nature so they're really tried to bring it up a little bit and give it more of a current shall we say um updated version and that's kind of the one that we went with but um
- 26:06[SPEAKER_01]: All in all, I, you know, like I said, check out Google Hunting.
- 26:10[SPEAKER_01]: And also, of course, my biggest pick, Shawshank redemption, yours, desperate hours, and Crimson's tied.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_01]: I always, I always keep Crimson tied and hunt for Red October confused.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I do.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_01]: I just figured out what it is.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_00]: And it's hunt for Red October, maybe.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_01]: Tom, well, you know why I wasn't in the Navy?
- 26:26[SPEAKER_01]: Because all the loud music I used to listen to, I couldn't pass the hearing test.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_00]: That's interesting.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I passed the hernia test even though I had hernia.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_00]: So I think you just didn't want to go.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_01]: I don't remember the hernia test.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_01]: I remember getting sprayed with water.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_00]: No, they touch you and tell you to turn your head to the right and left and call.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah, okay.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_00]: And I went in knowing I had a hernia.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, because that's why I went in because I couldn't afford to surgery.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_00]: And my brother said, well, you know, the Navy will do your surgery for free.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like, okay.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_00]: And I said, I'm not going to pass the hernia test, but I'll give it a shot.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_00]: And the doctor did this thing.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_00]: And he said, turn to the right.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_00]: I cough, turn to the left.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_00]: I cough.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_00]: He said, you're good.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like, OK, I know I'm not, but I'm getting my surgery done.
- 27:10[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what happened.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_00]: And maybe you did my hernia surgery.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_01]: And there you have it.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_01]: More information about Anavar than you probably ever wanted to know in your entire life.
- 27:17[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to see that information on TikTok folks.
- 27:20[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want anybody on TikTok.
- 27:22[SPEAKER_00]: Anavar, I have the hernia and each you get the government.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_00]: I served four years.
- 27:26[SPEAKER_00]: So I paid for my hernia.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_01]: Indeed, you did.
