- 0:03Speaker 1: Good morning, good morning, good morning, and welcome, welcome, welcome.
- 0:06Speaker 1: It is time now for one on one with the
- 0:08Speaker 1: pro buddy. It's two on one today. Is we have
- 0:10Speaker 1: super tendic cloud and we have this Darcy with us.
- 0:12Speaker 1: How we doing, guys?
- 0:13Speaker 2: And we're good?
- 0:15Speaker 1: Right? So what's happening at the school?
- 0:17Speaker 3: Oh and we're just winding down.
- 0:19Speaker 2: We got two more weeks and finals coming up and
- 0:22Speaker 2: graduation on the fifteenth, and and yeah, we're just doing
- 0:27Speaker 2: normal family interviews and student interviews and you know, replacing.
- 0:32Speaker 3: A few staff and it's it's been an interesting spring.
- 0:35Speaker 1: I bet it has going kind of fast, hasn't it.
- 0:38Speaker 4: Yes, it went really fast.
- 0:40Speaker 1: My goodness, saxety of the kids there, they make it
- 0:43Speaker 1: all worthwhile. And the educator's been there for a good
- 0:46Speaker 1: long time in most cases, and what have you. But
- 0:49Speaker 1: the school just keeps growing and growing, expanding and expanding,
- 0:52Speaker 1: and but we're there. We always have room for more.
- 0:55Speaker 1: I always like that attitude. We always have room for more.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, we have what was our number this morning
- 1:00Speaker 3: for four ninety four?
- 1:02Speaker 1: Four ninety four, Yes, and that includes our new preschool
- 1:07Speaker 1: program or two year old and three year old preschool program.
- 1:10Speaker 2: We have fourteen fifteen in that so still some room
- 1:13Speaker 2: available in that program as well, that is, you.
- 1:17Speaker 3: Know, two year old and three year old children.
- 1:20Speaker 2: But yeah, the four ninety four is a great number
- 1:23Speaker 2: for it's the biggest number we've ever.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Had, and there's still room. We have over one hundred
- 1:27Speaker 3: slotses of what you said.
- 1:28Speaker 2: One hundred, and we have OTC open till June fifteenth
- 1:33Speaker 2: to Oklahoma Tax Credit, which is basically your tax dollars
- 1:39Speaker 2: at work to choose your education, your child's education, and
- 1:45Speaker 2: what we like to say is you're choosing a biblical
- 1:47Speaker 2: foundation for a lifelong mission. Basically, we're discipling these kids
- 1:54Speaker 2: to walk with Christ as they leave our school and
- 1:56Speaker 2: also doing an outstanding job of reading and arithmetic as well.
- 2:01Speaker 1: I'd say you've got a little bit of a big
- 2:05Speaker 1: to do. Comeback for the alumni, don't you. Oh?
- 2:08Speaker 4: Yes, September twenty fifth and twenty sixth, we're going to
- 2:11Speaker 4: have a big fiftieth anniversary celebration. Twenty fifth is going
- 2:16Speaker 4: to be like a golf tournament, and which who doesn't
- 2:18Speaker 4: love golf? Yes, free free ret walker, concert, food trucks inflatables.
- 2:24Speaker 3: It's going to be a fun community event.
- 2:26Speaker 1: My god.
- 2:27Speaker 4: The twenty six is also we're celebrating. It's going to
- 2:29Speaker 4: be some alumni events and it'll be an awesome time.
- 2:32Speaker 4: So we hope the community joins us for that.
- 2:34Speaker 1: That's going to be great. And I know that some
- 2:37Speaker 1: of the ones who have been away from school a
- 2:40Speaker 1: little bit are going to notice the new editions that
- 2:43Speaker 1: they haven't been back in town to visit on the
- 2:44Speaker 1: writ and regular Yeah.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Yeah, we're still actually active in those new editions. We
- 2:49Speaker 2: did construction the last two.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Years and we're going to do a little bit more.
- 2:53Speaker 2: This year, kind of revamping, getting remodeling some of our
- 2:57Speaker 2: bigger rooms to give us more office space and people
- 3:00Speaker 2: around a little bit. But for the first time ever,
- 3:02Speaker 2: we're gonna have almost all of our classes under the
- 3:04Speaker 2: same roof, and we have some of the older senior
- 3:10Speaker 2: classes in the basement still, but for the most part,
- 3:13Speaker 2: everybody's into that one roof and we're really.
- 3:16Speaker 3: Excited about that. Oh yeah.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Our preschool program will be on the back side of
- 3:22Speaker 2: the school on the east entrance there, and we'll have
- 3:27Speaker 2: two year old program, three year old program, and then
- 3:30Speaker 2: the primary grades are down there as well, with kindergarten
- 3:34Speaker 2: and pre k down there.
- 3:35Speaker 1: So you know, the little ones, they get a big
- 3:38Speaker 1: kick because you know they're they're just learning to talk
- 3:41Speaker 1: and they can tell Auntie and uncahol school, Yeah, I'm
- 3:45Speaker 1: going to school exactly. And they dig it. They would
- 3:48Speaker 1: give them something to do and they accidentally learn things
- 3:51Speaker 1: while they're having fun. I like that. Yeah, that's got
- 3:55Speaker 1: to be like a big old happy family out there.
- 3:57Speaker 3: It is. It is. We're you know, in.
- 4:01Speaker 2: The process of having family interviews and talking to people
- 4:06Speaker 2: every day about the application process.
- 4:09Speaker 3: It's not hard.
- 4:09Speaker 2: You just go to our website and fill out the
- 4:12Speaker 2: application and then it directs you to the OTC and
- 4:16Speaker 2: it's not it's not hard at all. The average I
- 4:19Speaker 2: think the average the OTC tax credit for a student
- 4:25Speaker 2: is about seven seven thousand dollars and the average cost
- 4:29Speaker 2: is about ninety five hundred per student. So not too
- 4:33Speaker 2: bad for private, private school education, Christian education.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Well, i'd say, how the families when they come in,
- 4:39Speaker 1: I know that they're just dying again. They're hoping first
- 4:42Speaker 1: of all to get a spot.
- 4:43Speaker 3: Yeah yeah yeah.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Second of all, they see what's going on, they see
- 4:48Speaker 1: how the other students perhaps are conducting themselves, and they
- 4:52Speaker 1: already know pretty much. They made the right choice.
- 4:54Speaker 2: Yeah, we have spots in most classes available. There's a
- 4:58Speaker 2: few that are getting getting full, and we have a
- 5:01Speaker 2: little bit of a waiting list, but most classes are
- 5:04Speaker 2: still available.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Okay, great, Now, first things first, they can give you
- 5:09Speaker 1: a call. I like to do it the old fashioned way,
- 5:12Speaker 1: like the call scheduled interview, but other folks they like
- 5:15Speaker 1: to kind of you their homework first, and they like
- 5:19Speaker 1: to do the website. So you got a real easy
- 5:21Speaker 1: website too. Yeah.
- 5:23Speaker 4: Oh yeah, if you go to Wesleyan Christian School dot com.
- 5:25Speaker 1: That's it. Yeah, and I can remember that. I know,
- 5:28Speaker 1: you can.
- 5:28Speaker 4: Apply, could schedule a tour. The scheduling a tour is
- 5:32Speaker 4: awesome because then you can see like what the kids
- 5:35Speaker 4: are experiencing and what your kids will be doing.
- 5:37Speaker 3: And it's a really great thing.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Oh my heavens. It's well laid out. I will tell
- 5:43Speaker 1: you I've been on the side a few times. It's
- 5:46Speaker 1: easy to navigate. You're not gonna get lost, you're not
- 5:49Speaker 1: gonna go where was I where you know? Point click,
- 5:52Speaker 1: you're there. And if you go to the tax credit
- 5:54Speaker 1: page too, that's very self explanatory.
- 5:57Speaker 3: Yeah, user friendly. They've done a good job with that.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Now, graduation is coming up, and it seems like you're
- 6:04Speaker 1: the first school usually in the area that lets them
- 6:09Speaker 1: lets them out, and it's kind of a custom. And
- 6:12Speaker 1: I've gone through the last i think four or five
- 6:16Speaker 1: graduations there and every one of them, every one of
- 6:20Speaker 1: them is just a celebration. Yeah, yeah, it really and
- 6:24Speaker 1: it's fun and you really realize just how well the
- 6:28Speaker 1: teachers and the students know each other. That that closeness
- 6:33Speaker 1: is really good and it pays off.
- 6:34Speaker 2: Yeah, small, small family atmosphere is very evident when you
- 6:38Speaker 2: come to that graduation and the kids have the same
- 6:41Speaker 2: teachers over and over again as from their freshman year on.
- 6:46Speaker 2: The relationships are built really well there and that that's
- 6:49Speaker 2: what helps us lay that foundation we were talking about earlier.
- 6:53Speaker 1: One of the things to get a kick out of.
- 6:54Speaker 1: But the graduation is you know, the friendly little you know,
- 7:01Speaker 1: equips they have with each other. You know, you wouldn't
- 7:04Speaker 1: be too unusual they have one of the students speakers
- 7:07Speaker 1: all of a sudden let one out on one of
- 7:09Speaker 1: the teachers who've been there a while, and not too
- 7:12Speaker 1: unusual for one of the teachers or staff or administrators
- 7:16Speaker 1: to do a couple of students and everybody just laughs
- 7:20Speaker 1: and they're all in on it. So it's like it's
- 7:25Speaker 1: no big secret, nobody's nobody's airing laundries. But that's a
- 7:30Speaker 1: kind of good family atmosphere that I was talking about.
- 7:33Speaker 1: It is we have fun now. You also have all
- 7:36Speaker 1: kinds of different extracurricular activities. So for folks who are wondering, okay,
- 7:41Speaker 1: is a private school just at a school, Wesley and
- 7:44Speaker 1: Christian offers a lot of things.
- 7:46Speaker 3: Yeah, we do. We have a lot of different sports.
- 7:48Speaker 2: In the fall, boys can play football or run cross country.
- 7:51Speaker 2: The girls can play volleyball or run cross country. In
- 7:55Speaker 2: the spring or in the winter, we have basketball and
- 7:58Speaker 2: in the spring we're playing girls soccer.
- 8:00Speaker 3: We're gonna start.
- 8:01Speaker 2: With a junior high baseball program next year. Hopefully that'll
- 8:04Speaker 2: turn over to a high school program the following year.
- 8:07Speaker 2: We have track, and then we also have trap shooting
- 8:11Speaker 2: seven through twelve, which has been a big program for us.
- 8:14Speaker 2: We had fifteen twenty kids shooting trap every year with
- 8:18Speaker 2: the Wildlife Foundation.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Nice. Yeah, nice, And I'll.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Be remiss if I didn't mention mister Frederick's gaming team
- 8:27Speaker 2: they compete with. Yeah, Sports Gaming and OLSSAA competitions.
- 8:33Speaker 3: They do well.
- 8:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:34Speaker 4: I don't know if you saw the drama that they
- 8:37Speaker 4: put on. Oh man, it was phenomenal. It isn't incredible
- 8:40Speaker 4: drama program. Yes, I went and it was impressive.
- 8:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Usible every year every spring, oh yeah, and then then fall.
- 8:48Speaker 2: We have a play every October.
- 8:50Speaker 3: It's really good play.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Now the school is you make such good use of
- 8:56Speaker 1: your space. Yeah, you have this one great, big, huge
- 8:59Speaker 1: thing looks like a gym, but it's multi purpose. Yes,
- 9:02Speaker 1: that's used for graduation, that's used for the place. That's
- 9:06Speaker 1: also used for worship.
- 9:07Speaker 2: Yes, every Sunday, those chairs get taken up and carp
- 9:11Speaker 2: gets foot down, and then it is a multi purpose
- 9:14Speaker 2: building for sure.
- 9:16Speaker 1: And we'll maintained too. I might add that every time
- 9:19Speaker 1: I've been in their place has been spotless. And you
- 9:23Speaker 1: know the kids, well, you'll see the kids rolling around,
- 9:27Speaker 1: and you know darn well that when the day is open,
- 9:30Speaker 1: somebody's got to clean that up. Yeah. Yeah, my golly,
- 9:33Speaker 1: it shines. Yeah, so hats off to your work.
- 9:37Speaker 2: It's set up right now, and we have set up
- 9:40Speaker 2: for our music program tonight and we have music programs
- 9:44Speaker 2: starting at six thirty and we have all the little
- 9:46Speaker 2: kids going to sing in the secondary kids.
- 9:49Speaker 3: And our award winning band is going to play.
- 9:52Speaker 2: They won sweep they got second place in the jazz
- 9:56Speaker 2: band sweepstake and THESSA a state contest last week. So yeah,
- 10:01Speaker 2: it's a nice concert, good time. It's about a hour
- 10:04Speaker 2: and a half long, and it's a good good chance
- 10:07Speaker 2: to see what the school is and see what it's
- 10:08Speaker 2: about if anybody wants to come by it and be great.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Now, I want to tell you, folks, if you're not
- 10:13Speaker 1: sure where Wesley and Christian School is. It's on No
- 10:16Speaker 1: Water Road. But you got to look a little bit
- 10:18Speaker 1: because you're right there, so close to everything, but at
- 10:22Speaker 1: the same time you're kind of nestled back in a
- 10:25Speaker 1: way from everything. I mean, that's planet. Yeah. So you're
- 10:29Speaker 1: right out there with a no ride in the spring,
- 10:33Speaker 1: Silver Lakes, Silver Lake. You just keep going there to
- 10:37Speaker 1: the east toward seventy five and you'll find it. It will
- 10:41Speaker 1: be on the south side of the road.
- 10:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 10:43Speaker 1: And it's a beautiful, beautiful campus, I should say, because
- 10:47Speaker 1: more than one building, folks are gonna take you. I've
- 10:49Speaker 1: got quite a few. But it's all very very very
- 10:52Speaker 1: nice and of course, it's a wonderful Christian education that
- 10:57Speaker 1: your kids are going to receive. That is first and foremost. Yeah,
- 11:00Speaker 1: it's the attitude when you walk in. It's gratitude when
- 11:03Speaker 1: you walk out.
- 11:04Speaker 3: Yeah, well put yes, thank you.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Just kind of happened, but all the same. What's the
- 11:14Speaker 1: phone number? Kid? Can you give us a.
- 11:16Speaker 3: Chef nine one eight three three three eight six three
- 11:19Speaker 3: one so you.
- 11:20Speaker 1: Can call and get a see if you can get
- 11:23Speaker 1: a nice little walk around.
- 11:24Speaker 3: And yeah, show you around, answer your questions.
- 11:27Speaker 1: They all you will, I know you will.
- 11:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:29Speaker 1: It's kind of a little matter of pride, isn't it. Yeah,
- 11:33Speaker 1: it's like what we got here. Yeah, a lot of
- 11:35Speaker 1: hard work went into this. Yeah, and of course you're
- 11:38Speaker 1: your child's education. A lot of hard work is going
- 11:40Speaker 1: to go into that too. The educators are there, they're
- 11:43Speaker 1: there for a good long time. They're there for the
- 11:45Speaker 1: journey for the most part.
- 11:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Now are you are You're you're hiring right, you said
- 11:49Speaker 1: you're looking for you.
- 11:50Speaker 3: Yeah, we have some elementary positions available. We have a
- 11:53Speaker 3: couple of teachers moving out of town.
- 11:54Speaker 1: I understand that happens.
- 11:56Speaker 2: Yeah, and so we have a couple of early education
- 11:59Speaker 2: pro rams looking forward, always looking for teachers as seems
- 12:04Speaker 2: like they shuffle around a little bit, and so a
- 12:07Speaker 2: couple other areas we're looking for people in too as well.
- 12:10Speaker 2: So okay, some secondary positions. I think secondary science was
- 12:14Speaker 2: open still, so it's a lot to.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Keep track out. Yes, I'm glad, I'm glad. I know. Yeah,
- 12:21Speaker 1: so just look at the website and you can probably
- 12:23Speaker 1: find that.
- 12:25Speaker 3: Underemployment.
- 12:27Speaker 1: All right. I want to thank you both for being
- 12:28Speaker 1: here and taking such time to be with us here
- 12:32Speaker 1: on one on them over the pro here at K one,
- 12:35Speaker 1: the one you trust, have a great spring. And I
- 12:40Speaker 1: know with the graduation coming up, I'll be running into
- 12:42Speaker 1: you folks out there because I'll be doing that on
- 12:44Speaker 1: the radio. I'll be hiding behind the console, inconspicuous while
- 12:49Speaker 1: the kids are the star.
- 12:51Speaker 3: Right.
- 12:51Speaker 1: We'll have a lot of fun with that too. Folks
- 12:53Speaker 1: who've been watching and listening to K one, thanks for
- 12:59Speaker 1: listening to me one on one with a professional A
- 13:01Speaker 1: paid presentation at fourteen hundred K one
