- 0:00Speaker 1: Is konon Wake Forest twelve noon Saturday. Get there early.
- 0:05Speaker 1: I think the tailgates are featuring breakfast, maybe some poached eggs.
- 0:09Speaker 1: I've seen some poached eggs out there. It's pretty good
- 0:12Speaker 1: in the bacon and the beef and all that. That's
- 0:15Speaker 1: that's kicking off at twelve noon, but our coverage begins
- 0:18Speaker 1: at nine am from Cloda Farm's doghouse. Bob Joyce will
- 0:21Speaker 1: be there myself, Wayne Norman, Ben Darnell. Network pregame ten
- 0:25Speaker 1: thirty kickoff twelve oh two. It looks like yukon Sports
- 0:29Speaker 1: Network and the Varsity Network app and Varsitynetwork dot com.
- 0:33Speaker 1: We're back with the Jim Mora coach. Skyler Bell made
- 0:37Speaker 1: a catch on the sideline right and kind of front
- 0:39Speaker 1: of where you were last week two weeks ago, and
- 0:43Speaker 1: it got his leg bent back look to be an
- 0:45Speaker 1: ankle issue. Has he recovered and how close is he
- 0:50Speaker 1: to being able to play this coming weekend? Do you think?
- 0:55Speaker 2: I mean, I would anticipate that he plays, and so
- 0:58Speaker 2: unless he has a setback, I mean he's he's come
- 1:01Speaker 2: along well, so you know, we'll see where he is
- 1:05Speaker 2: on game day. But I don't anticipate him doing anything
- 1:08Speaker 2: other than you know, getting out there and competing like crazy.
- 1:12Speaker 1: You've got the good fortune of having Joe Finnano be
- 1:15Speaker 1: able to step in and play the QB position very well.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Nick Evers missed last week, He's had a couple of
- 1:21Speaker 1: head issues. Where's he at. Do you have a sense
- 1:25Speaker 1: that he will be available against wake Forest?
- 1:28Speaker 2: Kind of the same as Skuyler. You know, as long
- 1:30Speaker 2: as things go well the rest of the week, we
- 1:31Speaker 2: should be able to get him out there a little bit.
- 1:34Speaker 2: But as you mentioned, if he can't play, you know,
- 1:36Speaker 2: we've got all the confidence in the world in Joe.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Joe's you know, one of the leading passers in the
- 1:42Speaker 2: country in terms of passing efficiency. So uh, if he's
- 1:46Speaker 2: in there, we just keep rolling.
- 1:48Speaker 1: One final note on Temple because that game is still
- 1:51Speaker 1: sticking in my mind. How the Owls are on your
- 1:54Speaker 1: goal line with two chances to win the game, but
- 1:58Speaker 1: didn't win the game and instead you end up with
- 2:02Speaker 1: the Jordan Wright going ninety six yards or whatever it
- 2:05Speaker 1: was for a touchdown. As you viewed those last two plays,
- 2:10Speaker 1: do you feel helpless? Sometimes I look at it. I'm different.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Obviously I'm not on your sideline, but it's got to
- 2:17Speaker 1: be a tough spot for the coach. You're like, they
- 2:19Speaker 1: need a half yard, we got to make a stop.
- 2:22Speaker 2: No, you never feel hopeless or helpless. I mean that
- 2:25Speaker 2: if the minute I start feeling helpless, I'm done. I
- 2:30Speaker 2: mean you're fighting. I mean you're fighting. You're fighting to
- 2:32Speaker 2: get the right call, You're fighting to project your energy
- 2:35Speaker 2: onto the field of the players. You're fighting with them
- 2:38Speaker 2: and for them, and you're you know, I never, honestly,
- 2:42Speaker 2: I didn't have a feeling of despair at any point
- 2:47Speaker 2: in that game, even when they had a fourth and
- 2:50Speaker 2: whatever whatever that you are. I don't know if you
- 2:54Speaker 2: call a yard line the inch line. I just had
- 2:56Speaker 2: a feeling that we were going to come through, that
- 2:58Speaker 2: someone's going to make a play and somebody did you know. So, Uh,
- 3:05Speaker 2: I'm usually a pretty positive minded guy during games. That
- 3:09Speaker 2: doesn't mean I'm not concerned. I'm not unrealistic about what's
- 3:13Speaker 2: happening during the game, But there was something inside of
- 3:16Speaker 2: me that day that just said, I think we're gonna
- 3:18Speaker 2: someone's gonna something's gonna do something special here, and and uh,
- 3:22Speaker 2: you know, whether they fumbled the ball or we cause
- 3:25Speaker 2: to fumble whatever, it worked out.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Yeah, That's how good seasons are built when you win
- 3:30Speaker 1: one like that. Let's turn our attention to wake Forest
- 3:32Speaker 1: Jim more with us. Uh, they got a quarterback, that's uh,
- 3:36Speaker 1: he's been around Boys State guy went to La Tech
- 3:40Speaker 1: before that. I was looking at Hank Bachmeer's high school
- 3:44Speaker 1: career for a second here. One hundred and fifty six
- 3:47Speaker 1: touchdowns he threw for in high school and thirty interceptions.
- 3:51Speaker 1: But I mean, that's pretty impressive. This guy's been around,
- 3:55Speaker 1: he's QB and Wake Forest. What what are the Huskies
- 3:58Speaker 1: facing here this weekend with him?
- 4:00Speaker 2: Well, I'm very familiar with Hank. Recruited him when I
- 4:04Speaker 2: was at UCLA. He was from Marietta, California, plays in
- 4:07Speaker 2: a really good football league, really good football, was very successful.
- 4:13Speaker 2: I left before he made any of his decisions, but
- 4:16Speaker 2: did get a chance to meet him when he was young.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Got a picture of he and I together actually from
- 4:20Speaker 2: when he was I think either sophomore or junior in
- 4:22Speaker 2: high school. So very familiar with Hank. I don't know
- 4:26Speaker 2: him very well. I got a chance to do a
- 4:28Speaker 2: game at ESPN when he was at Boise State, and
- 4:33Speaker 2: once again, very impressed with him. And he's played a
- 4:36Speaker 2: lot of football. He has a lot of experience. He's
- 4:40Speaker 2: been very successful. He's very competitive, he's incredibly intelligent. He's
- 4:45Speaker 2: a great decision maker. You know, he doesn't ever shun responsibility.
- 4:57Speaker 2: You saw that last week after the Clemson game, the
- 4:59Speaker 2: way that he he entered his press conference and you know,
- 5:02Speaker 2: put in on himself. He's a great leader. I think
- 5:06Speaker 2: he's one hell of a player. I have a ton
- 5:07Speaker 2: of respect for him. I have for years and years
- 5:09Speaker 2: and years.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Well, he's gonna be a guy that will be a problem,
- 5:15Speaker 1: that's for sure on the weekend. And you mentioned this
- 5:17Speaker 1: in your press conference Tuesday as well. They did not
- 5:21Speaker 1: have a couple of tight ends available in their previous game,
- 5:23Speaker 1: but I think they're going.
- 5:24Speaker 2: To be back.
- 5:25Speaker 1: How does that impact what Bachmeyer is able to do
- 5:29Speaker 1: offensively with wake Forest.
- 5:31Speaker 2: I think it just gives them more flexibility as an
- 5:34Speaker 2: offense to get into different personnel groups and different formations
- 5:38Speaker 2: they can run or throw out of their twelve group
- 5:40Speaker 2: or if they want to go thirteen and use three
- 5:42Speaker 2: tight ends. So you know, you just have to you
- 5:46Speaker 2: have to be prepared for multiple personnel groups, multiple formation shifts, motions, plays,
- 5:51Speaker 2: play action, maybe a heavier dose of the run game.
- 5:55Speaker 2: They're a good running team as it is, so it's
- 6:00Speaker 2: just makes it a little bit more complicated as a
- 6:02Speaker 2: defense to to predict what they may do offensively going
- 6:06Speaker 2: into the game, and then once the game starts and
- 6:09Speaker 2: we just have to adjust as they decide what they
- 6:11Speaker 2: want to do offensively.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Yeah, they're they're it's a modified RPO kind of a
- 6:17Speaker 1: thing that they do in the backfield. Someone from ACC
- 6:20Speaker 1: was telling me about this. I really haven't seen Wake
- 6:22Speaker 1: much this year. Tell me about that. They really hide
- 6:26Speaker 1: the ball. Well, it's kind of hard to decide who's
- 6:29Speaker 1: got the ball back there? Is that That what I'm
- 6:31Speaker 1: getting to.
- 6:32Speaker 2: I mean, it's not in every play type of deal,
- 6:33Speaker 2: but it's a kind of a mesh thing where the
- 6:36Speaker 2: hank will put the ball on the in the belly
- 6:38Speaker 2: of the back and kind of riding slowly up to
- 6:40Speaker 2: the line of scrimmage, reading what's happening, and he can
- 6:42Speaker 2: either give it or he can pull it, and then
- 6:44Speaker 2: they have a throw involved in it. So it demands
- 6:48Speaker 2: a lot of discipline, of demands patience, but you can't
- 6:50Speaker 2: get on your heels. You still got to be playing aggressive.
- 6:53Speaker 2: So yeah, it's it's not easy to defend. They have
- 6:58Speaker 2: the ability if they want to kind of slow the rush,
- 7:00Speaker 2: the pass rush down a little bit. They have the
- 7:03Speaker 2: ability to bring linebackers up out of coverage. If you're
- 7:05Speaker 2: playing a lot of zone, it is unique. You don't
- 7:08Speaker 2: see it a lot, and it's not easy to prepare for.
- 7:13Speaker 1: All Right, Jim Morris with us. We'll have another segment
- 7:15Speaker 1: with him and we meet with a couple of the
- 7:17Speaker 1: players down on Gordyne Connor Studtz a little bit later on.
- 7:21Speaker 1: This is the Yukon Football Coaches Show on lear Field
