- 1:00Speaker 3: via digital recording from the Days of the Dead Fest
- 1:03Speaker 3: here in Indianapolis. And this week we have a special
- 1:06Speaker 3: guest co-host with us, Mr. Sean Wadling.
- 1:08Speaker 6: How you doing everybody?
- 1:10Speaker 3: Just to kind of get into, to give people a
- 1:14Speaker 3: reference of where they know you from. Because they'll all
- 1:15Speaker 3: see you and go, oh, yeah.
- 1:16Speaker 7: That guy.
- 1:17Speaker 6: That's why I call my page that guy, Sean Whalen,
- 1:21Speaker 6: because that's what everybody calls me first. They call me
- 1:24Speaker 6: that guy first. Oh, yeah, you're that guy.
- 1:26Speaker 5: You're that guy. But, yeah, I guess just to get
- 1:29Speaker 5: into the earlier stuff, was it Washington, D.C.
- 1:31Speaker 3: You were originally from?
- 1:32Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:33Speaker 6: Yeah, born and raised in the Maryland area, right around Washington, D.C.,
- 1:38Speaker 6: and got into theater there, and then came out to California,
- 1:40Speaker 6: and then been out there for a long time.
- 1:43Speaker 5: Which, was it just like stage play acting, or how
- 1:46Speaker 5: did you get into it?
- 1:47Speaker 6: Yeah, a lot of stage, community theater, children's, you know,
- 1:51Speaker 6: elementary school, then on to high school, a lot of
- 1:53Speaker 6: high school plays, directing and everything, all of the above.
- 1:57Speaker 3: Did you, I thought, I don't know if it was
- 1:59Speaker 3: early on or later, did you get involved in like
- 2:01Speaker 3: the improv scene?
- 2:02Speaker 6: Yeah, I was in the, it's very famous now, the
- 2:04Speaker 6: Groundling Theater, where I was in it with Lisa Kudrow
- 2:07Speaker 6: at the time.
- 2:08Speaker 5: Will Ferrell came from it. Many other, many other people.
- 2:12Speaker 6: Kristen Wiig. A lot of people.
- 2:15Speaker 5: And Elvira.
- 2:16Speaker 6: That's true.
- 2:17Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 2:18Speaker 6: Yeah. She's an amazing woman.
- 2:20Speaker 5: She's done a lot of stuff in her time.
- 2:22Speaker 10: Yes.
- 2:23Speaker 5: In a rock band in Italy. She did all kinds
- 2:25Speaker 5: of weird stuff.
- 2:25Speaker 11: Yeah, yeah.
- 2:28Speaker 3: But I guess, as far as breaking through into film,
- 2:31Speaker 3: was it people under the stairs?
- 2:33Speaker 6: In terms of film, yes. That was my first big role.
- 2:38Speaker 6: I had done some commercials. I had done some minor
- 2:40Speaker 6: guest spots on TV, but that was the first film
- 2:43Speaker 6: I ever did.
- 2:44Speaker 3: And then, I guess, especially around these parts, that's probably
- 2:48Speaker 3: where you're most recognized as.
- 2:50Speaker 6: You would be right.
- 2:51Speaker 12: These parts are the roach parts. Hanging around the Roach Motel,
- 2:56Speaker 12: I guess.
- 2:56Speaker 6: Exactly, yes, exactly. And you never get out.
- 3:00Speaker 5: Yeah, much like the commercial, there's no escape for you.
- 3:06Speaker 3: But, again, it's something that you did a really good
- 3:08Speaker 3: job with, so I guess you've become okay with him
- 3:11Speaker 3: as a character over the years?
- 3:12Speaker 9: Oh, yeah.
- 3:13Speaker 5: I mean, it was always a great character.
- 3:14Speaker 6: There was nothing... I mean, you know, the thing that
- 3:16Speaker 6: my family always said, which their big problem with it was,
- 3:19Speaker 6: you weren't in it long enough. Isn't that always the case?
- 3:22Speaker 5: That's always the case with every role I've ever had, so... Well,
- 3:25Speaker 5: and then what was Wes like as a director?
- 3:28Speaker 6: Very mellow, very cool, very nurturing. You knew it was
- 3:31Speaker 6: my first film, but.
- 3:33Speaker 6: He's like the guy next door. He's like your neighbor
- 3:35Speaker 6: next door. You know, very mellow. Not at all what
- 3:38Speaker 6: you would think. So he must be insane when he sleeps.
- 3:41Speaker 6: He's not in person.
- 3:43Speaker 5: And then, I mean, again, he's a very iconic character.
- 3:46Speaker 3: Where did you get him from as far as character-based?
- 3:50Speaker 6: You know, I always had... I had done some comedy work,
- 3:53Speaker 6: and then I started working on emotional work at a
- 3:55Speaker 6: different kind of acting class. And the.
- 4:00Speaker 6: Fear of playing something like that is that you're just
- 4:02Speaker 6: running around screaming i actually played renfield in dracula in
- 4:06Speaker 6: high school and i remember my acting high school teacher
- 4:10Speaker 6: saying you know he is a human being and so
- 4:14Speaker 6: there has to be reasons for him to act this
- 4:17Speaker 6: way and have emotion and why he is the way
- 4:19Speaker 6: he is and so he had to be a full-rounded
- 4:21Speaker 6: character so he had to have heart and and enthusiasm
- 4:25Speaker 6: and kind of be a kid that actually had his
- 4:27Speaker 6: tongue cut off and lived between the walls. So there
- 4:29Speaker 6: had to be, you know, it still had to be
- 4:31Speaker 6: a person underneath all that weirdness. Yeah, and you can
- 4:34Speaker 6: see a lot of Renfield in there.
- 4:36Speaker 11: Yeah, yeah, it is.
- 4:37Speaker 6: It's a very similar character because he's kind of stuck.
- 4:40Speaker 6: He's trying to help.
- 4:41Speaker 5: He's much more overt than Renfield was.
- 4:45Speaker 6: Renfield was trapped by Dracula on one side trying to
- 4:48Speaker 6: help people on the other side.
- 4:50Speaker 5: Roach was just trying.
- 4:50Speaker 6: To help everybody. He didn't give a shit about them.
- 4:52Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 4:54Speaker 6: He didn't care.
- 4:55Speaker 3: And then to change gears, jump ahead a little bit,
- 4:59Speaker 3: just Waterworld.
- 5:01Speaker 6: Waterworld. Thrown in the.
- 5:02Speaker 11: Middle of that.
- 5:03Speaker 3: I had to know.
- 5:04Speaker 6: That was an audition. I went out there.
- 5:09Speaker 5: I got to hang for a week. And the funnest
- 5:12Speaker 5: thing was they had us.
- 5:13Speaker 6: Do some jet moto stuff they said oh we gotta
- 5:17Speaker 6: give you these lessons well i had known how to
- 5:19Speaker 6: ride one and so the lessons last about five minutes
- 5:22Speaker 6: so then i got an extra two hours of literally
- 5:25Speaker 6: just jamming around hawaii dressed like a crazy oil slick
- 5:28Speaker 6: person and on a jet skate so it was awesome I.
- 5:32Speaker 3: Mean, I guess all of it was shot to the
- 5:34Speaker 3: point where you can't see land, so were they taking
- 5:37Speaker 3: you out by helicopter?
- 5:39Speaker 6: Not the part I did. They didn't need to. We
- 5:42Speaker 6: were just close to land. All they did was kind
- 5:45Speaker 6: of just get behind us on the dock.
- 5:47Speaker 5: They avoided that. as much as they could because you
- 5:50Speaker 5: know the boats screw them up big time it.
- 5:52Speaker 3: I mean it seems like again it's gotten a bad
- 5:56Speaker 3: rap over the years but even then it seems like
- 5:58Speaker 3: so much of an undertaking just with the technical issues
- 6:00Speaker 3: i mean was it.
- 6:01Speaker 6: Something you could tell yeah i mean before we got
- 6:04Speaker 6: there there had been you know rumors that it was
- 6:05Speaker 6: almost going to be shut down yeah but i mean
- 6:07Speaker 6: just the warehouse of spraying us down making us look
- 6:10Speaker 6: you know oily and putting oil all over our teeth.
- 6:13Speaker 6: I mean, it was a lot, a lot of work.
- 6:16Speaker 6: So they were under the gun because shooting on water
- 6:22Speaker 6: is just really tough. It's very unpredictable. As I know
- 6:24Speaker 6: from Twister, shooting with weather is very hard.
- 6:29Speaker 3: Well, that's another one I was going to ask. You
- 6:31Speaker 3: were part of that group. What was that shoot like?
- 6:34Speaker 6: Well, I mean, you'd wake up every day, and you'd
- 6:37Speaker 6: go to the set, and you'd wonder what you're doing
- 6:39Speaker 6: that day, because we would have a weatherman on set.
- 6:42Speaker 5: And he would say, okay, this is the place that's cloudy.
- 6:45Speaker 6: We've got to go here. And if we had to
- 6:47Speaker 6: go there, well, if it had to be a farm,
- 6:49Speaker 6: then we had to shoot this scene, or if it
- 6:50Speaker 6: was a... You know, Dirt Road, we had to shoot
- 6:53Speaker 6: that scene. So you never really knew what was going on.
- 6:55Speaker 6: Everything was based on the weather, because every time they
- 6:57Speaker 6: had a clear sky, that meant more money for CGI
- 7:00Speaker 6: and ILM, and that's not what they wanted to do.
- 7:02Speaker 5: Every sunny day, everybody.
- 7:03Speaker 6: Would be like, God damn it!
- 7:05Speaker 5: So you really do become, like, real storm chasers.
- 7:08Speaker 6: Yeah, we were literally, yeah, the film crew were storm chasers, absolutely.
- 7:12Speaker 6: That's interesting.
- 7:13Speaker 5: And is Bill Paxton all right?
- 7:15Speaker 6: Yeah, he's fun. He's from Texas, and yeah, he was
- 7:21Speaker 6: a lot of fun. He was a lot of fun.
- 7:23Speaker 3: He always seems like something's going on there, and I'm
- 7:25Speaker 3: not sure what it is sometimes.
- 7:27Speaker 5: Neither did we, necessarily.
- 7:29Speaker 6: There are times that you're like, wow, what is going
- 7:31Speaker 6: on with this guy?
- 7:32Speaker 5: But he's fun. He's a lot of fun.
- 7:35Speaker 3: Another one of our favorites on the show is Idle Hands.
- 7:39Speaker 3: How did you get involved in that one?
- 7:40Speaker 6: That was a commercial director that I had worked with.
- 7:45Speaker 6: I had a big little stretch in the 90s, and
- 7:49Speaker 6: I knew Seth Green from before. Just a quick audition
- 7:56Speaker 6: in there, and that was.
- 7:58Speaker 3: A lot of fun.
- 7:58Speaker 6: I loved that script. I thought it was the funnest
- 8:01Speaker 6: script ever. I thought some of the casting was weird.
- 8:08Speaker 6: the lead but but i thought not to be mean
- 8:12Speaker 6: but i mean seth was amazing and i thought it
- 8:14Speaker 6: was all really really fun but i thought and it's
- 8:17Speaker 6: funny i worked with jessica alba on never been kissed
- 8:19Speaker 6: and then worked on this right after so it's kind
- 8:22Speaker 6: of funny watching going wow she's gonna be a big
- 8:24Speaker 6: star i.
- 8:25Speaker 3: Think stop following me around god me around this chick
- 8:28Speaker 3: won't leave me alone yeah exactly Well, then, again, to
- 8:33Speaker 3: veer off in a different direction, and I'm sure people
- 8:35Speaker 3: are weirded out by the fact that at least two
- 8:37Speaker 3: of us on the show are very, probably.
- 8:40Speaker 5: Unhealthily, pleased with Wizards of Waverly Place.
- 8:44Speaker 3: Yes, that's a.
- 8:45Speaker 5: Huge deal in my world, you know?
- 8:48Speaker 3: Being, you know.
- 8:49Speaker 5: Supposedly grown-ups.
- 8:50Speaker 6: We're not really.
- 8:50Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 8:51Speaker 3: But, yeah, so I still think it's a really well-put-together show,
- 8:54Speaker 3: and yours was one of the more fun episodes ever.
- 8:57Speaker 6: Well, there's a lot of pressure on that one because,
- 8:59Speaker 6: I mean, my God, I auditioned. It took a week
- 9:01Speaker 6: for them to decide. They went to the networks to
- 9:04Speaker 6: go to the very top. I was like, this is
- 9:06Speaker 6: a Disney show. Why are you putting this much effort
- 9:09Speaker 6: into this? But it was because it's their big Halloween show,
- 9:12Speaker 6: and they wanted to make sure it was great, so.
- 9:15Speaker 5: And, yeah, I was, you know, on paper, it just
- 9:18Speaker 5: said Mantooth in these lines.
- 9:19Speaker 6: They had no idea. They obviously didn't know what they wanted. But, luckily,
- 9:24Speaker 6: I went in there and, you know, created something that
- 9:27Speaker 6: they liked. And there was that. So it was really fun.
- 9:31Speaker 12: How are the kids there? Everybody was great. Selena took
- 9:35Speaker 12: pictures of my family.
- 9:37Speaker 8: Nice.
- 9:39Speaker 6: The dad ate lunch with us. I mean, everyone was
- 9:43Speaker 6: super nice, super friendly. It was a great set to
- 9:45Speaker 6: be on. And I was on it with Danny Roebuck
- 9:47Speaker 6: at the time, too. He was a great character actor.
- 9:49Speaker 5: And a big horror fan himself.
- 9:51Speaker 3: Yes, he's a huge horror fan.
- 9:53Speaker 6: He's actually helping me with my Dorothy 50 years later. Nice. He's...
- 9:59Speaker 6: He co-wrote and is going to direct the next installment
- 10:02Speaker 6: of Dorothy 50 years later. That's how much he loves it.
- 10:05Speaker 5: Well, that's one I was going to ask about. Is
- 10:09Speaker 5: that one of those that came from.
- 10:10Speaker 6: That came from Groundlings, actually. That's an old Groundlings sketch
- 10:13Speaker 6: that I did years ago. I loved it, and I
- 10:16Speaker 6: left the movie, and everyone was like, oh, it's so amazing,
- 10:19Speaker 6: because they had redone it and put it out on screens,
- 10:21Speaker 6: and we all wanted to see it on screen. And
- 10:23Speaker 6: I said, God, this sucks. She's stuck in this black-and-white
- 10:27Speaker 6: world with older... older parents that aren't really her parents
- 10:31Speaker 6: and they never said they were going to take care
- 10:32Speaker 6: of the dog that like that was if she was
- 10:34Speaker 6: cleared up which it wasn't and then bottom line everybody
- 10:37Speaker 6: thought she was crazy because she said you you you
- 10:39Speaker 6: and you were there and then everyone looks at each
- 10:41Speaker 6: other goes sure we were sure you were yeah i'm
- 10:44Speaker 6: sure i was i'm sure so you know she that
- 10:47Speaker 6: was her destiny to be the crazy lady in town
- 10:49Speaker 6: you know so that.
- 10:51Speaker 3: Yeah i mean if there was you know skip that
- 10:54Speaker 3: return to oz thing if you do come back and
- 10:56Speaker 3: check in she's She's going to have a very weird life.
- 10:58Speaker 6: Yeah, she's not going to think, you know, the dusty, shitty,
- 11:02Speaker 6: run-down farm is not the backyard you really need to
- 11:06Speaker 6: stay in the rest of your life. Yeah, that's true.
- 11:08Speaker 5: Go back to Oz.
- 11:09Speaker 6: Yeah, go back to Oz, please. Yeah, exactly.
- 11:12Speaker 3: So how did it transfer into you becoming the part
- 11:16Speaker 3: more than anything?
- 11:17Speaker 6: Well, I just thought, well, I've got to do this.
- 11:20Speaker 6: Because we were doing monologues, and so I wrote this monologue,
- 11:24Speaker 6: and a friend of mine took me out, and he's like, yeah,
- 11:25Speaker 6: you're making it too jokey. Actually, Employee of the Month,
- 11:28Speaker 6: the guy who plays my manager, Tim Bagley, he took
- 11:31Speaker 6: me out to lunch when we were growling together and said,
- 11:34Speaker 6: you've got to make it her. Make it her talking
- 11:36Speaker 6: about it. Don't just make a bunch of jokes. And
- 11:38Speaker 6: that was a great note, and I changed it into
- 11:41Speaker 6: her just ranting by herself. And then years later, I
- 11:44Speaker 6: just knew for posterity I really wanted it on film,
- 11:47Speaker 6: and I had the amazing Brandon Trost, who works with
- 11:50Speaker 6: Rob Zombie all the time, just shot Seth Rogen's directorial debut,
- 11:54Speaker 6: and he's a really.
- 11:56Speaker 5: Very talented DP.
- 11:58Speaker 6: And we went out and shot it in like 45
- 12:00Speaker 6: minutes because I just knew the monologue, and that was it.
- 12:03Speaker 6: It was really great.
- 12:04Speaker 5: Cut it together, so... And is it still short film?
- 12:08Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, it's only two minutes long. So there's
- 12:13Speaker 6: something in there, but I haven't figured out which direction
- 12:16Speaker 6: I'd get it. It would be great as an Adult
- 12:17Speaker 6: Swim 15-minute.
- 12:18Speaker 5: Show, I think, you know, or it could be... It
- 12:21Speaker 5: would be hard to do a feature.
- 12:22Speaker 6: Yeah, it would be hard to do a feature unless
- 12:24Speaker 6: you're the right angle, and there's a couple of angles
- 12:26Speaker 6: that are good, so we'll see.
- 12:27Speaker 5: Really specific story to make her work. Yeah, yeah.
- 12:30Speaker 11: We'll see. Interesting.
- 12:32Speaker 5: And then, I guess, if you've got new stuff, is
- 12:34Speaker 5: it Hatchet 3 is the next big one?
- 12:35Speaker 6: Hatchet 3 is, I'm finishing up next month. I'm also
- 12:39Speaker 6: doing a new movie called All Saints Eve, which shoots
- 12:41Speaker 6: in Pittsburgh. That's happening in two weeks, where I'm one
- 12:46Speaker 6: of the leads. And that's from the head DP that
- 12:51Speaker 6: did a lot of the Hellraiser movies, Ice Keeps Friday, so...
- 12:55Speaker 6: It's pretty exciting stuff.
- 12:58Speaker 5: Daniel Harris is back, and Adam's writing this one again.
- 13:01Speaker 11: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 13:02Speaker 6: This one promises to be pretty cool, so I can't
- 13:06Speaker 6: say more than that. It is a good cast, though.
- 13:09Speaker 5: They keep bringing in all the horror favorites.
- 13:11Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:12Speaker 6: It should be fun.
- 13:13Speaker 10: It should be fun.
- 13:13Speaker 5: It should be really fun.
- 13:15Speaker 11: And B.J.
- 13:15Speaker 5: McDonald is an awesome director. Really fun.
- 13:18Speaker 12: He worked on the other ones. He was the DP
- 13:20Speaker 12: for the other two, so he knows the world.
- 13:22Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 13:23Speaker 6: Adam's really great, so it's going to be one to watch.
- 13:28Speaker 3: And anything else before we cross over into the movie here?
- 13:31Speaker 6: No, that's good.
- 13:32Speaker 5: I mean, you know, we ran the gamut of my ego.
- 13:37Speaker 6: All right.
- 13:38Speaker 5: Well, with that, I think we'll take a break here.
- 13:40Speaker 3: And we've lured you into discussing this week's movie, so
- 13:43Speaker 3: we will be back with this week's movie.
- 13:55Speaker 13: There's no money, there's no possessions Only obsession, I don't
- 14:04Speaker 13: need that shit Take my money, take my obsession.
- 14:30Speaker 14: I just want to be heard Loud and clear, all
- 14:34Speaker 14: my words Coming from within, man, tell them what you.
- 14:37Speaker 8: Heard It's about a revolution In your.
- 14:39Speaker 14: Heart and in your mind To define a conclusion Lifestyle
- 14:42Speaker 14: and obsession Diamonds raise, give you nothing but a lifelong
- 14:47Speaker 14: lesson In your pocketbook, stress it You're a slave to
- 14:49Speaker 14: the system Working jobs that you hate For that shit
- 14:52Speaker 14: you don't need Is too bad, the world is based
- 14:56Speaker 14: on greed Step back.
- 14:58Speaker 15: And see.

- 18:02Speaker 16: Was a lot less complicated.
- 18:04Speaker 6: Can I take your picture for the school paper?
- 18:06Speaker 11: Sure.
- 18:08Speaker 8: In this lab, we have 15 genetically enhanced super spiders.
- 18:11Speaker 8: There's 14. One's missing. Peter, are you all right? I'm fine.
- 18:23Speaker 11: Hey, look, you're changing.
- 18:32Speaker 6: No, not exactly.
- 18:39Speaker 19: Wow.
- 18:42Speaker 13: Peter, may I introduce my father, Norman Osborn?
- 18:44Speaker 3: Great honor to meet you, sir. Harry tells me you're
- 18:46Speaker 3: quite the science whiz.
- 18:49Speaker 1: You know, I'm something of a scientist myself.
- 18:59Speaker 3: What the hell is that.
- 19:05Speaker 6: Whatever it is somebody has to stop.
- 19:06Speaker 1: It with great power comes great responsibility this is.

- 19:30Speaker 15: fly again.
- 19:31Speaker 1: Here comes the Spider-Man.
- 19:33Speaker 8: This is strong, this is.
- 19:39Speaker 4: Bold.
- 19:39Speaker 7: He's got radio after the load.

- 20:13Speaker 15: Look out!
- 20:13Speaker 4: Here comes Spider-Man.
- 20:17Speaker 2: Look out!
- 20:20Speaker 5: Welcome back to Movie Meltdown Sofa Theater.
- 20:22Speaker 6: This week's Sofa Theater feature is Spider-Man.
- 20:25Speaker 5: Maybe not the one you're thinking of.
- 20:27Speaker 6: The year is 2002.
- 20:28Speaker 3: The director, Sam Raimi. The plot, according to IMDb, when
- 20:33Speaker 3: bitten by a genetically modified spider, a nerdy, shy, and
- 20:36Speaker 3: awkward high school student gains spider-like abilities that he eventually
- 20:40Speaker 3: must use to fight evil as a superhero after tragedy
- 20:43Speaker 3: befalls his family.
- 20:44Speaker 6: Spoiler alert?
- 20:45Speaker 5: I figure by now you're... If you don't know that
- 20:48Speaker 5: going in, you're in trouble.
- 20:49Speaker 3: Yeah, so, you know, if you don't know what happens
- 20:51Speaker 3: to Spider-Man, he's been around for a while.
- 20:53Speaker 6: Been around for a while. Nothing new. So, yeah, we.
- 20:58Speaker 3: You suggested discussing the Sam Raimi version of Spider-Man in
- 21:03Speaker 3: sort of the wake of the new Spider-Man coming out,
- 21:06Speaker 3: the amazing Spider-Man that just hit theaters, and then we
- 21:08Speaker 3: both went and saw that, so we're going to kind
- 21:10Speaker 3: of touch on differences and just sort of do.
- 21:12Speaker 6: An overall thing.
- 21:13Speaker 11: So.
- 21:14Speaker 3: With that, I guess, where do you want to start
- 21:16Speaker 3: with the Sam Raimi one?
- 21:17Speaker 6: I think, I mean, I think with any movie, you
- 21:20Speaker 6: walk out and you say, you know, does it stay
- 21:24Speaker 6: with you in any way? Are you excited about it
- 21:27Speaker 6: later on? Is it in your brain in any capacity?
- 21:31Speaker 6: And I remember seeing the end of the Sam Raimi
- 21:33Speaker 6: one and going, oh, that's such a great ending. You know,
- 21:36Speaker 6: like he had to blow her off and... and saying,
- 21:40Speaker 6: I am Spider-Man, and then the great sequence at the
- 21:42Speaker 6: end of him flying, and I was, you know, and the.
- 21:45Speaker 12: Crowd went crazy, but it was really, I think it
- 21:48Speaker 12: was fun. It was just a funner movie. Now, are
- 21:51Speaker 12: there things I hate?
- 21:52Speaker 5: Do I hate Macy Gray?
- 21:53Speaker 23: Yes.
- 21:53Speaker 6: Thank you. It's so lame.
- 21:56Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 21:56Speaker 6: It's so lame, and I really don't like the... the
- 22:01Speaker 6: like new york people on the.
- 22:02Speaker 5: Bridge going spider-man's old friend you know leave him alone.
- 22:05Speaker 4: Yeah it's horrendous like those parts pretty bad are really
- 22:11Speaker 4: really bad but i think in terms of the other
- 22:13Speaker 4: stuff it's kind of a perfect film and i think
- 22:15Speaker 4: the love story the angst of the love story plays
- 22:19Speaker 4: into more of the angst of Him.
- 22:21Speaker 6: Trying to figure out who he is. And, you know,
- 22:25Speaker 6: it was just a funner, it's a fun ride.
- 22:29Speaker 3: Yeah, it is one, and I think we discussed that
- 22:31Speaker 3: not too long ago, like comparing to in that week
- 22:34Speaker 3: of the Batman thing where everything became so dark. I mean,
- 22:37Speaker 3: this one has a lot of, you know, his life
- 22:40Speaker 3: is pretty rough, but at the same time it's still... Because,
- 22:43Speaker 3: you know, you go back to the comics and the
- 22:44Speaker 3: animated shows, they were all really kind of light about it.
- 22:47Speaker 3: You know, they had fun with it. And they still
- 22:49Speaker 3: keep a little of that sense in this movie.
- 22:51Speaker 11: Right.
- 22:51Speaker 3: Which I think is a good thing. The other thing, yeah,
- 22:55Speaker 3: I mean, we were talking about just the way that
- 22:58Speaker 3: the dynamic of it works. I think that is a
- 23:02Speaker 3: big difference versus going to see this new one now.
- 23:05Speaker 5: If we want to start getting into crossover stuff.
- 23:07Speaker 11: Yeah, yeah.
- 23:08Speaker 3: I think what works so well about that first one
- 23:11Speaker 3: is it is like this... or the Sam Raimi one,
- 23:13Speaker 3: is the fact that it really does sort of give
- 23:16Speaker 3: you this perfect little, like, origin story. And the thing is,
- 23:19Speaker 3: those get worn out, and I think that's part of
- 23:21Speaker 3: the problem. But this one gets right to it, like
- 23:24Speaker 3: within that first scene. Yeah, within five minutes, he is
- 23:27Speaker 3: a nerd.
- 23:28Speaker 6: He's a nerd.
- 23:28Speaker 3: He's a nerd.
- 23:29Speaker 5: He pines for that girl.
- 23:30Speaker 6: He is an outcast. He's a photographer. We get to
- 23:34Speaker 6: meet Harry Osborn and his son immediately. And he's bitten
- 23:37Speaker 6: within the first ten minutes, which is genius to me.
- 23:40Speaker 6: It's like, let's get there right away. I think that's
- 23:42Speaker 6: what works so well about that one. So tight. It
- 23:45Speaker 6: looks tight.
- 23:46Speaker 5: It's a very tight, structurally perfect movie.
- 23:49Speaker 3: And it gives you, it's one of those, like, you
- 23:51Speaker 3: kind of, I mean, everybody sort of knows that anyway,
- 23:53Speaker 3: so do you need to drag it out and give
- 23:55Speaker 3: the whole backstory on the spider bite and all this
- 23:57Speaker 3: stuff where it's like, we know where it's going, just
- 24:00Speaker 3: turn him into Spider-Man.
- 24:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:01Speaker 3: And it gives you more time for him to, you know,
- 24:03Speaker 3: be swinging around the city, fighting time, you know.
- 24:05Speaker 6: And I would say that, you know, if they knew,
- 24:08Speaker 6: there's a lot of problems with the new one, and
- 24:10Speaker 6: one of them being... That, you know, the original one,
- 24:14Speaker 6: it was an escaped spider, never meant to be around anybody.
- 24:18Speaker 6: These other ones could have bitten thousands of people in
- 24:21Speaker 6: that place. And if they knew they were so great,
- 24:25Speaker 6: why wouldn't they have tried this years ago?
- 24:27Speaker 8: And....
- 24:30Speaker 6: And everybody should be bitten by spiders. Plus, someone raised
- 24:34Speaker 6: a good point to me recently, he doesn't turn into
- 24:36Speaker 6: the whole spider. He doesn't get web abilities, and he
- 24:40Speaker 6: could be a fly because he's just sticky. He's not
- 24:43Speaker 6: able to jump really far. He gets bruised really easily.
- 24:47Speaker 6: He's kind of half a Spider-Man, which is kind of weird.
- 24:49Speaker 5: Which was one of the things I liked that they
- 24:51Speaker 5: changed in the Raimi version.
- 24:53Speaker 3: Because, again, in the comics and even the series, he
- 24:56Speaker 3: always had, like, those cheesy web shooters, and he would always.
- 24:58Speaker 6: Be running out of web fluid. Yeah, yeah.
- 25:01Speaker 3: I always thought, I was like, why does he get
- 25:02Speaker 3: all the other powers and not webs?
- 25:04Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, yeah. It never made sense even in the comic.
- 25:06Speaker 3: Right. If he's Spider-Man, why doesn't he have spider webs,
- 25:08Speaker 3: you know?
- 25:09Speaker 8: Right, right.
- 25:09Speaker 3: So that was the best thing I think they did
- 25:11Speaker 3: in that Raimi version, was go ahead and just full-fledged
- 25:13Speaker 3: make him Spider-Man.
- 25:14Speaker 6: Yeah. And there's just too many iconic... If you can
- 25:19Speaker 6: walk away from a movie and you have iconic things,
- 25:22Speaker 6: like with great power comes great responsibility, and that upside-down
- 25:26Speaker 6: kissing scene, which I guess the Broadway show ripped off, too.
- 25:29Speaker 6: But those are iconic moments in movie history. And that
- 25:36Speaker 6: right there, I don't know if I'm going to walk
- 25:38Speaker 6: away from this new one with something going, oh, and
- 25:40Speaker 6: I love the thing where they... oh, did that fast
- 25:43Speaker 6: sequence for the 3D. You know what I mean? And sorry,
- 25:46Speaker 6: but the Sam Raimi one was not made for 3D.
- 25:49Speaker 6: So you always have a slant for 3D that you go, ah,
- 25:55Speaker 6: but I didn't go to the 3D show. I didn't either.
- 25:58Speaker 6: I didn't want to. I didn't want to. Yeah, I
- 26:00Speaker 6: didn't want to either. And it's too, you know, the
- 26:02Speaker 6: stuff is so fast and in your face that I
- 26:05Speaker 6: think the grace of the, I mean, of course they
- 26:08Speaker 6: were trying to up the ante of him fighting which
- 26:12Speaker 6: I think they did well, but I thought they went
- 26:14Speaker 6: far enough in the Dr. Octopus one. Yeah. And this
- 26:18Speaker 6: one was so fast and crazy that it's not like
- 26:21Speaker 6: I'm going back to the movie to say, I want
- 26:23Speaker 6: to see what I missed in that sequence.
- 26:25Speaker 3: Yeah, almost so fast that it becomes confusing. Again, they're
- 26:30Speaker 3: starting to fall into that weird Transformers thing where let's
- 26:33Speaker 3: throw so much action and movement at the screen that
- 26:36Speaker 3: for a second you're like, wait, what did he just do?
- 26:38Speaker 5: Oh, okay, he's back again.
- 26:39Speaker 3: Where they never do that with the Raimi one. I mean, it's, again,
- 26:42Speaker 3: looking at the effects end of it, you can tell
- 26:45Speaker 3: it's all computer animated. But it's good computer animation.
- 26:49Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 26:49Speaker 3: And it's one of those you couldn't do it any
- 26:51Speaker 3: other way. So you always kind of gave it a
- 26:52Speaker 3: pass with the Raimi one.
- 26:53Speaker 6: Right.
- 26:54Speaker 3: And looking at this one, it's like, okay, we've had
- 26:56Speaker 3: how many years to improve on it? And it's like,
- 26:58Speaker 3: number one, I don't think it looks better.
- 26:59Speaker 8: Right.
- 27:00Speaker 3: And then the more I watched it.
- 27:01Speaker 5: I was like, I think it looks a little worse.
- 27:02Speaker 6: Yeah, and why does he take his mask off every
- 27:05Speaker 6: 10 seconds? That's a studio note.
- 27:08Speaker 3: You know it's a studio note.
- 27:09Speaker 5: They're just like, oh, this is our pretty lead.
- 27:11Speaker 3: We've got to get that mask off of him.
- 27:13Speaker 6: No, and the right people, you know, his mask was
- 27:17Speaker 6: off and he was fighting those guys, but she couldn't
- 27:19Speaker 6: see him in the alleyway, in the Raimi version.
- 27:21Speaker 5: She couldn't see him.
- 27:22Speaker 6: But this guy takes it off for the kid, and
- 27:24Speaker 6: he takes it off for the cop, and all the
- 27:26Speaker 6: cops see him, and everybody, you know. And when it
- 27:29Speaker 6: does come off, it's that one time in the second
- 27:31Speaker 6: movie where it's very important that that happened. And they say,
- 27:37Speaker 6: you know, and it's a big moment. You're like, oh,
- 27:39Speaker 6: Spider-Man's mask is off. This one, you're like, is he
- 27:41Speaker 6: going to have his fucking mask on?
- 27:43Speaker 3: Yeah, I was like, does he ever wear the mask?
- 27:44Speaker 5: Does he ever wear the mask?
- 27:45Speaker 6: And I'm... hated the spandex I get it they're trying
- 27:49Speaker 6: to up it it's just too shiny and I don't
- 27:51Speaker 6: know and the other thing that's weird about it is
- 27:53Speaker 6: he's tall he's gawky looking and Spider-Man to me is
- 27:58Speaker 6: like short, stocky, not stocky, but, you know. He's just
- 28:02Speaker 6: a dorky kid. Yeah, he's a dorky kid, but he's
- 28:04Speaker 6: got a long, lanky Spider-Man, which is weird to me.
- 28:08Speaker 5: That was, I mean, maybe that's not a big deal,
- 28:10Speaker 5: but it was to me. I thought it was weird.
- 28:12Speaker 3: Well, that's another thing I noticed, like, watching it again,
- 28:14Speaker 3: the Raimi one, is, like, how perfect Tobey is for that.
- 28:17Speaker 3: I mean, it's like, was there ever a role he
- 28:19Speaker 3: was made for more than Peter Parker?
- 28:21Speaker 6: Well, you know, a lot of times, I actually worked
- 28:23Speaker 6: with Tobey years ago, and I used to go, wow,
- 28:25Speaker 6: he doesn't do anything.
- 28:26Speaker 5: He doesn't do anything. He just kind of is there
- 28:29Speaker 5: and just full or whatever.
- 28:30Speaker 6: And I was kind of excited to see him in
- 28:32Speaker 6: this role because he had to do a lot more.
- 28:35Speaker 6: And it was really cool to see him do it. And,
- 28:38Speaker 6: you know, quite frankly, I miss J. Jonah Jameson.
- 28:41Speaker 8: Oh, yeah.
- 28:41Speaker 6: And the whole Daily Bugle thing and taking the pictures. And,
- 28:46Speaker 6: you know, they try to do homages to that. But,
- 28:49Speaker 6: you know, and I thought the Osborne thing was much better,
- 28:53Speaker 6: much simpler, simpler. And they just left so many things.
- 28:56Speaker 6: Where's the Indian guy, you know? Where'd the Indian guy go?
- 28:58Speaker 6: They let him go, and then they just dropped that story.
- 29:01Speaker 6: And then, like, what happened to my dad? Like, they
- 29:04Speaker 6: just dropped that story, too. He doesn't go in there
- 29:05Speaker 6: and go, what happened to my dad? You must know.
- 29:07Speaker 6: He just kind of forgets it.
- 29:09Speaker 3: He goes, come back for the sequel. Yeah, well, no.
- 29:12Speaker 6: The nice thing is, in the rainy one, it's a
- 29:14Speaker 6: perfectly structured... They don't leave a bunch of loose ends.
- 29:16Speaker 6: Everything's very tight and simple and... And I think that's
- 29:20Speaker 6: what's really important in good filmmaking is you keep it
- 29:23Speaker 6: really tight, you know, and not leave a bunch of
- 29:26Speaker 6: loose ends. And, you know, look, it's just a darker version.
- 29:31Speaker 6: It's just darker, which is okay. It's darker, but sometimes
- 29:34Speaker 6: it's not.
- 29:35Speaker 3: Like, watching it, I was like, it focuses on different things,
- 29:38Speaker 3: I think.
- 29:38Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 29:40Speaker 3: A lot of really dark moments in the Raimi one
- 29:42Speaker 3: that I kind of glossed over. When I went back
- 29:44Speaker 3: and watched it, I was like, it's... I mean, there's
- 29:46Speaker 3: times when you can tell it's Raimi again. Again, it's
- 29:50Speaker 3: a more polished Raimi.
- 29:51Speaker 5: It's that, like, you know, the.
- 29:52Speaker 6: Gift and, you know.
- 29:54Speaker 3: It's the later Raimi when you could see he was
- 29:56Speaker 3: getting really pretty polished about his filmmaking. But there's still
- 29:59Speaker 3: those moments, like the flashes that Osborn has that's like.
- 30:02Speaker 6: Very Evil Dead. Yeah, yeah.
- 30:04Speaker 3: And then the more I went into it, the whole
- 30:07Speaker 3: Osborn thing, it's like... It's also a very horrific character.
- 30:12Speaker 3: It's not even like a cheesy sci-fi supervillain. The more
- 30:16Speaker 3: you get into it, I'm like, he's Jekyll and Hyde. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 30:19Speaker 6: He's the wolfman.
- 30:20Speaker 3: He wakes up, he doesn't know what he did.
- 30:22Speaker 6: He's killed people. He feels guilty about it.
- 30:25Speaker 3: He's totally like an old-school horror character.
- 30:28Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah.
- 30:29Speaker 3: And here, it's like we don't have any of that
- 30:32Speaker 3: to deal with, really.
- 30:33Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 30:34Speaker 3: And again, I think that gave it a lot darker
- 30:36Speaker 3: feel to that Raimi one that.
- 30:38Speaker 5: Wasn't necessarily even.
- 30:39Speaker 3: It's something probably people didn't expect that first time around,
- 30:44Speaker 3: that you didn't have to take his character there.
- 30:45Speaker 11: Right.
- 30:46Speaker 6: But I think that adds something to it. I liked
- 30:49Speaker 6: the sun, you know, Harry Osborn, I liked that. It
- 30:51Speaker 6: was really great.
- 30:52Speaker 5: I mean, it just had some more emotional.
- 30:55Speaker 6: things to it too which i which i really really
- 30:58Speaker 6: dug i mean i thought that was really great and
- 31:00Speaker 6: sally feels too young and she's still cute too cute
- 31:04Speaker 6: yeah she definitely doesn't look.
- 31:05Speaker 3: I mean i mean aunt may and the rainy one
- 31:07Speaker 3: like that's exactly.
- 31:08Speaker 6: Her yeah and i did like i did like i
- 31:12Speaker 6: did like in the new one that he had he
- 31:14Speaker 6: was a vigilante all he what you know when dennis
- 31:17Speaker 6: nary talks about all he's trying to do is be
- 31:18Speaker 6: he was that's exactly what he was trying to do
- 31:20Speaker 6: he's just trying to get that guy Which I get.
- 31:23Speaker 6: And I like that. And then he turns himself around
- 31:25Speaker 6: when he realizes he can save that kid. He's like,
- 31:28Speaker 6: wait a minute, I can be more. But they did,
- 31:31Speaker 6: you know, and they just glossed him for that. When
- 31:33Speaker 6: they're like, oh, unanswered questions makes you stronger. And I'm like,
- 31:37Speaker 6: unanswered questions makes me frustrated. Fuck, I'm sitting in this
- 31:40Speaker 6: audience going, why would you introduce so many things and
- 31:43Speaker 6: only take care of half of them?
- 31:44Speaker 11: Sequel.
- 31:45Speaker 5: Yeah, but that's the bummer.
- 31:47Speaker 3: Yeah, that's not a good structure to your first movie.
- 31:49Speaker 6: That's not a good structure.
- 31:51Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 31:51Speaker 3: And they don't have any of that. Yeah, the Raimi
- 31:52Speaker 3: one is like, it leaves an open ending where you can,
- 31:55Speaker 3: like a comic book, you can continue on to a
- 31:57Speaker 3: new chapter.
- 31:58Speaker 5: But at least it had closure.
- 31:59Speaker 3: But it closes everything that needs to. It takes care
- 32:01Speaker 3: of all those issues.
- 32:02Speaker 8: Right.
- 32:02Speaker 3: So, I mean, yeah, this one where it just kind
- 32:04Speaker 3: of like.
- 32:04Speaker 6: And it.
- 32:05Speaker 5: Dropped those things at the very end of the funeral
- 32:07Speaker 5: scene with Harry and her kissing him at the end.
- 32:11Speaker 6: They left that for the end, but they didn't leave
- 32:14Speaker 6: so many big things wide open.
- 32:16Speaker 5: The Indian guy's alive somewhere. You know, it's just crazy, so.
- 32:22Speaker 6: I definitely agree with you in terms of structuring stuff
- 32:25Speaker 6: for a sequel, structuring. It felt more like a business movie.
- 32:29Speaker 5: And you know what?
- 32:30Speaker 6: Look, I wasn't into, you know, James Dean, Peter Parker.
- 32:33Speaker 5: You know what I mean?
- 32:35Speaker 6: The angst-ridden, you know, weepy Peter Parker.
- 32:40Speaker 5: Which, again, is very different than the way Toby plays it.
- 32:42Speaker 5: Toby really is just a.
- 32:43Speaker 3: And that's what's funny. It's like, he gets powers within
- 32:46Speaker 3: the first five minutes. He's still a dork. Like, he
- 32:48Speaker 3: still can't catch the bus. He still can't get the girl.
- 32:50Speaker 3: It's like, even with superpowers, he's still screwed.
- 32:53Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah.
- 32:54Speaker 5: And that's more interesting to me.
- 32:56Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 32:56Speaker 3: I think, where this one, I'm just like, well, you're
- 32:59Speaker 3: watching him in the beginning, and you're like, well, why
- 33:00Speaker 3: doesn't he get the girl?
- 33:01Speaker 5: I mean, you look at.
- 33:02Speaker 3: Him, and it's like, he's no different than the guy
- 33:04Speaker 3: who's supposedly.
- 33:04Speaker 6: Picking on him. And I think, ultimately... Ultimately, I give
- 33:09Speaker 6: a shit about the Raimi character's appearance. And that's a
- 33:13Speaker 6: taste thing and a casting thing, but I actually cared
- 33:17Speaker 6: about those people as opposed to caring about any of
- 33:22Speaker 6: the recent cast. I didn't really... like Aunt May that
- 33:25Speaker 6: much I mean I love Sally Field but it's like
- 33:27Speaker 6: she didn't have anything to do I didn't care I
- 33:29Speaker 6: didn't care if they got together or not I didn't
- 33:32Speaker 6: I like Emma Stone but I you know she's been
- 33:34Speaker 6: in three movies where she's 26 and then all of
- 33:37Speaker 6: a sudden we have to swallow she's 17 that was
- 33:40Speaker 6: really hard you know.
- 33:41Speaker 3: That was the only thing I was going to say.
- 33:43Speaker 3: I do really like Emma Stone in general.
- 33:45Speaker 6: Yes, in general.
- 33:45Speaker 3: And I think even in this movie.
- 33:47Speaker 10: Yeah, she's great.
- 33:47Speaker 5: I think she is the best part of this movie.
- 33:48Speaker 3: She's the best part.
- 33:49Speaker 6: You're right.
- 33:49Speaker 5: She's the best part. And Dennis Leary, I think, is great.
- 33:52Speaker 8: Oh, yeah.
- 33:52Speaker 6: But he's not... He's no J.
- 33:53Speaker 5: Jonah Jameson.
- 33:54Speaker 3: Yeah, he's basically doing what he did on his TV series.
- 33:57Speaker 11: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 33:58Speaker 3: He's a professional guy.
- 33:59Speaker 5: He's doing his job. It's like it's no different than
- 34:01Speaker 5: a fireman, basically.
- 34:02Speaker 11: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 34:03Speaker 6: Exactly.
- 34:04Speaker 3: But yeah, that's about the only thing I will give
- 34:06Speaker 3: the new version is that I think.
- 34:08Speaker 5: Emma Stone. The Emma Stone and the dynamic between them, which.
- 34:12Speaker 3: The sad part is it doesn't come into play until, like,
- 34:14Speaker 3: two-thirds in when they really start having a little, like,
- 34:16Speaker 3: once she's in on it, I think it's a really
- 34:18Speaker 3: cool dynamic.
- 34:19Speaker 6: And I like the chemistry between them.
- 34:22Speaker 5: As much as I'm not big on him, I think those.
- 34:24Speaker 3: Two together kind of does something interesting that I wish
- 34:27Speaker 3: they'd done more with.
- 34:29Speaker 6: Right, right. Yeah, I definitely, you know, that scene in
- 34:32Speaker 6: the hallway with them being awkward with each other, they're
- 34:36Speaker 6: very well done, and there's definitely stuff to that.
- 34:39Speaker 12: I mean.
- 34:40Speaker 6: It's just that he has so many things that he
- 34:42Speaker 6: has to carry and is not able to resolve that,
- 34:46Speaker 6: you know, that's why he's hunched over and crying like
- 34:48Speaker 6: James Dean because it's like, God, writer, write me out
- 34:51Speaker 6: of this nightmare.
- 34:52Speaker 3: Well, I think even, like, towards the end when there's
- 34:56Speaker 3: that little dynamic of she's still kind of in on it,
- 34:59Speaker 3: like the secret thing, not to spoil the new one, but,
- 35:01Speaker 3: I mean, when he makes that little comment at the
- 35:03Speaker 3: very end and you're just like.
- 35:05Speaker 6: I hated that.
- 35:06Speaker 11: Did you? Okay.
- 35:07Speaker 5: I did, I did.
- 35:08Speaker 6: I thought that was just weak.
- 35:09Speaker 8: I mean.
- 35:09Speaker 5: Just, I mean, just, you know, be a movie.
- 35:13Speaker 6: Be a full movie. Finish your movie. Let that be
- 35:16Speaker 6: part of it.
- 35:16Speaker 3: Again, it was too many things saying.
- 35:19Speaker 6: There's going to be another one.
- 35:20Speaker 3: Yeah, it's definitely setting up the next one. But again,
- 35:22Speaker 3: I think just the chemistry there, I liked. And again,
- 35:25Speaker 3: probably the Emma Stone part of it made it work.
- 35:26Speaker 6: Yeah, Emma Stone made it work. Yeah, exactly.
- 35:29Speaker 3: That made it work.
- 35:29Speaker 6: And then her calling out, like, exactly why... she's you
- 35:33Speaker 6: know why he's breaking up with her and she knows
- 35:35Speaker 6: within a minute.
- 35:36Speaker 3: Yeah i was like come on what did you read
- 35:38Speaker 3: the script oh wait you did yeah we'll just have
- 35:41Speaker 3: the balls to like make it hard on him yeah let.
- 35:44Speaker 20: It be hard on him yeah again toby's the hell
- 35:47Speaker 20: yeah he sucks at the end but he realizes with
- 35:51Speaker 20: great power becomes responsibility and it ties it up perfectly
- 35:54Speaker 20: going And that's not always fun.
- 35:56Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 35:56Speaker 6: And that's hard.
- 35:57Speaker 3: That's hard to do.
- 35:58Speaker 6: It's one of those greater good moments.
- 36:00Speaker 3: It's like, I have to sacrifice my own personal happiness
- 36:03Speaker 3: for what's.
- 36:04Speaker 6: Better for the world, you know?
- 36:05Speaker 3: It really is a heroic thing that he has to do.
- 36:08Speaker 6: Where this one, it's like, eh.
- 36:10Speaker 5: We'll be together next movie. Yeah, we'll be together next movie.
- 36:12Speaker 6: I wonder what's coming up next.
- 36:14Speaker 5: Yeah, so, I mean, we're in, you agree, right?
- 36:18Speaker 11: Oh, yeah.
- 36:19Speaker 6: Sam Raimi won much better. Yeah, much better.
- 36:21Speaker 3: And I think, again, going back and re-watching it this time,
- 36:24Speaker 3: there's a couple things I noticed. Number one is it
- 36:26Speaker 3: does do that origin story so perfectly to the point
- 36:30Speaker 3: that all the other movies, because it was 2002, so
- 36:32Speaker 3: it was before that big boom came through, and, like,
- 36:35Speaker 3: all the other ones started kind of mimicking it, sometimes
- 36:38Speaker 3: even specifically. Looking at it after seeing Kick-Ass, I'm like,
- 36:42Speaker 3: I mean, Kick-Ass does an almost shot-for-shot version of, you know,
- 36:46Speaker 3: a comedic take on what would really happen is you
- 36:48Speaker 3: just get hit by a truck, or somebody stab you, or,
- 36:51Speaker 3: you know, it's like.
- 36:52Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 36:53Speaker 3: Yeah, it's like there's so many good things. And again,
- 36:55Speaker 3: they do some really good stuff in Kick-Ass, but the
- 36:58Speaker 3: reason that it turns out so good is because they're
- 37:00Speaker 3: drawing from this perfect, like, straight version.
- 37:02Speaker 6: Right.
- 37:03Speaker 3: And yeah, I think he does this great origin story. Yeah.
- 37:07Speaker 3: But like I said, it also does it and gets
- 37:10Speaker 3: on with the movie really fast. Watching this new one,
- 37:13Speaker 3: my problem is, I'm sitting there, and it's like an
- 37:14Speaker 3: hour in, and I'm like, is he still learning how
- 37:17Speaker 3: to swing on wedge?
- 37:18Speaker 8: Really?
- 37:19Speaker 6: It's a pilot for a TV series. It's not its
- 37:23Speaker 6: own movie. It needs to be its own movie. And again,
- 37:26Speaker 6: this is before, you know, it was more run by business.
- 37:30Speaker 6: It's before they wanted to push the 3D technology. You know,
- 37:33Speaker 6: they're putting in their fail-safes to have a sequel. I
- 37:38Speaker 6: think that's why they went the other direction with the
- 37:42Speaker 6: more artsy actor and Emma Stone and things like that.
- 37:45Speaker 5: And the artsy director. Yeah, and the artsy director. And
- 37:48Speaker 5: I get it. But even they can't offset.
- 37:52Speaker 6: The way it felt like. a building of a franchise
- 37:56Speaker 6: as opposed to, you know, a movie.
- 37:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 37:59Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, and again, that was Spider-Man before any
- 38:02Speaker 3: of that superhero wave took off, so it really could
- 38:04Speaker 3: have been a one-off movie if it didn't do that good.
- 38:06Speaker 5: I mean, I'm sorry it was going to, but it
- 38:09Speaker 5: could have.
- 38:09Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:10Speaker 6: And, yeah, exactly, exactly, because they left it open just
- 38:13Speaker 6: in case, but that's fine. You always leave it just
- 38:16Speaker 6: in case.
- 38:16Speaker 11: Yeah, yeah.
- 38:18Speaker 3: The one thing I will, since we've been sort of
- 38:21Speaker 3: giving a lot of love to the Raimi version, Right.
- 38:24Speaker 3: The one thing I will, I mean, even from the
- 38:26Speaker 3: first time I sat in the theater and saw it,
- 38:28Speaker 3: him in the green.
- 38:29Speaker 6: Goblin suit is kind of silly.
- 38:31Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah.
- 38:32Speaker 6: It's still Power Rangers.
- 38:33Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah.
- 38:34Speaker 6: That was a rough part. It was only really rough
- 38:38Speaker 6: when they had their scenes together.
- 38:40Speaker 5: Yeah, and he was talking, basically.
- 38:42Speaker 3: Because there's no mouth, and it does. It looks like
- 38:45Speaker 3: somebody's voicing over Power Rangers. But I think, again, it's like.
- 38:48Speaker 5: But they made it work for what was going on.
- 38:51Speaker 3: I think he almost realized that, and that's why you
- 38:54Speaker 3: get all those really smart scenes where it's him talking
- 38:56Speaker 3: to the mask, and you don't have that. So you
- 38:59Speaker 3: get more of that crazy aspect.
- 39:01Speaker 11: Somebody there?
- 39:03Speaker 3: Somebody.
- 39:06Speaker 1: Who said that?
- 39:09Speaker 11: Don't play the innocent with me. You've known all along.
- 39:23Speaker 2: Follow the cold shiver running down your spine.
- 39:33Speaker 11: I'm right here. I don't understand. Did you think it
- 39:41Speaker 11: was coincidence?
- 39:44Speaker 23: So many good things all happening for you.
- 39:48Speaker 11: All for you, Norman. What do you want? To say
- 39:56Speaker 11: what you want. To do what you can't.
- 40:01Speaker 1: To remove those in your way.
- 40:06Speaker 6: That's something I originally didn't like, but I did give
- 40:09Speaker 6: it a pass after realizing how... So there's only like
- 40:13Speaker 6: three scenes where it really comes into play and he's
- 40:15Speaker 6: delivering cheesy lines through the mask. Yeah, exactly.
- 40:18Speaker 3: And they did do that test run of like, originally
- 40:20Speaker 3: it was going to be more like... by, oh, you know,
- 40:23Speaker 3: it was going to be more of a, yeah, there's
- 40:25Speaker 3: test footage of him in that where he's actually like
- 40:28Speaker 3: Green Goblin and he looks more like the actual one.
- 40:31Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah.
- 40:32Speaker 3: But, yeah, I think they just scrapped that and went
- 40:34Speaker 3: with the helmet instead, which, they both have issues.
- 40:38Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, exactly. But again, you put Willem Dafoe in there.
- 40:41Speaker 3: Yeah, he's great. He's so good.
- 40:43Speaker 6: Yeah, he's so good.
- 40:44Speaker 5: He's, I mean, like I said with the Jekyll and
- 40:46Speaker 5: Hyde thing, he also becomes sort of.
- 40:48Speaker 6: This reluctant villain.
- 40:49Speaker 11: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 40:50Speaker 3: He's beaten down by these He's crazy, basically.
- 40:53Speaker 6: Yeah, he becomes crazy.
- 40:54Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 40:54Speaker 5: And he's sad about what he's doing.
- 40:56Speaker 11: He hates it.
- 40:57Speaker 3: So, in a way, yeah, you don't feel as, you know,
- 40:59Speaker 3: you don't hate him as much as you dislike he's
- 41:01Speaker 3: doing horrible things and Spider-Man has to stop him. But
- 41:04Speaker 3: you see how conflicted he is and how well the
- 41:06Speaker 3: quote plays that.
- 41:07Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah.
- 41:07Speaker 6: It's well done. It was great, yeah. It was funny.
- 41:11Speaker 3: This was just an observation that I think, a weird
- 41:14Speaker 3: Hollywood thing, that I think it's funny that they took
- 41:17Speaker 3: the very iconic two female leads, they took a girl
- 41:20Speaker 3: who was known for being a blonde and made her
- 41:22Speaker 3: a redhead, and then they took a girl who was
- 41:24Speaker 3: known for being a redhead and made her a blonde.
- 41:26Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 41:26Speaker 6: That was weird, and I'm not sure why.
- 41:29Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 41:30Speaker 6: And I can't really speak to the Gwen Stacy versus MJ,
- 41:34Speaker 6: you know, background.
- 41:35Speaker 11: I don't really know.
- 41:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 41:36Speaker 5: But I'll tell you one thing.
- 41:37Speaker 3: You don't know.
- 41:39Speaker 6: Gwen Stacy is at all, but you knew who MJ was.
- 41:42Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 41:42Speaker 6: And you knew who Harry Osborn were a lot better
- 41:44Speaker 6: than you did Gwen Stacy. You really don't know who
- 41:48Speaker 6: she is.
- 41:49Speaker 5: What's important to her or anything.
- 41:51Speaker 6: Yeah. And you don't know what her agenda is.
- 41:53Speaker 3: Once you realize she's working on the inside there, you're
- 41:55Speaker 3: just like, okay, is she.
- 41:56Speaker 6: Connected to what's going on?
- 41:58Speaker 3: It's like they were almost laying that out. Maybe they
- 42:00Speaker 3: could put that twist in there, and then they... Yeah,
- 42:03Speaker 3: it doesn't really... Well, so far, again, got to come
- 42:05Speaker 3: back to the sequel and see where they really go
- 42:06Speaker 3: with it, but... The one thing with the Mary Jane
- 42:10Speaker 3: thing is, like, she, as a character, she does sort
- 42:13Speaker 3: of just fall into what she's supposed to be that
- 42:15Speaker 3: first movie.
- 42:16Speaker 8: Right.
- 42:17Speaker 3: I think it's the second movie, which, again, becomes a
- 42:19Speaker 3: much better movie.
- 42:20Speaker 23: Right.
- 42:20Speaker 3: Where she sort of breaks out of that. And you
- 42:22Speaker 3: really do start to get a feel for her as
- 42:24Speaker 3: a person.
- 42:25Speaker 5: You start to see more.
- 42:26Speaker 6: Of them as a couple. But you also know she
- 42:27Speaker 6: had a dream and she was a loser.
- 42:28Speaker 3: It's a loser.
- 42:29Speaker 5: Like, she's like, I'm going to prove that I'm not
- 42:31Speaker 5: a loser.
- 42:31Speaker 3: And then she.
- 42:32Speaker 6: who is one still.
- 42:34Speaker 3: She is Peter Parker. Dealing with all the same issues
- 42:38Speaker 3: she is and comes from that same place. So you
- 42:40Speaker 3: do see they are sort of meant to be together
- 42:43Speaker 3: in some sense.
- 42:44Speaker 5: Yeah, exactly.
- 42:47Speaker 6: Were you listening to that? No. Well, I heard, but
- 42:50Speaker 6: I was just taking out the trash. I guess you
- 42:53Speaker 6: can always hear us. Well, everybody shouts.
- 42:58Speaker 3: Your aunt and uncle don't.
- 43:00Speaker 8: They can scream pretty good sometimes. So where are you
- 43:04Speaker 8: going after you graduate? I, uh.
- 43:11Speaker 3: I want to move into the city.
- 43:13Speaker 6: And hopefully, uh, get a job as a photographer.
- 43:19Speaker 8: Work my way through college.
- 43:20Speaker 4: What about you?
- 43:24Speaker 8: Headed for the city, too.
- 43:27Speaker 6: Can't wait to get out of here.
- 43:30Speaker 8: I want to....
- 43:33Speaker 6: What? Come on.
- 43:38Speaker 8: Try me.
- 43:40Speaker 2: I want to.
- 43:43Speaker 8: Act.
- 43:45Speaker 3: On stage.
- 43:47Speaker 23: Really?
- 43:47Speaker 1: Well, that's perfect.
- 43:51Speaker 6: You're awesome in all the school plays.
- 43:54Speaker 8: Really?
- 43:55Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 43:56Speaker 8: I cried like a baby when you played Cinderella.
- 44:00Speaker 3: Peter, that was first grade.
- 44:02Speaker 8: Well, even so, sometimes.
- 44:09Speaker 7: You know people.
- 44:12Speaker 5: You can just see what's coming.
- 44:15Speaker 8: What do you see coming for you? I don't know.
- 44:27Speaker 5: Whatever it is, Something I never felt before.
- 44:32Speaker 3: But they do, she ends up being a much richer
- 44:34Speaker 3: character by the second movie.
- 44:36Speaker 7: Right.
- 44:36Speaker 3: Where maybe that's what will happen with Gwen Stacy, but
- 44:39Speaker 3: at this point, yeah, she's just sort of, she's got
- 44:41Speaker 3: a good dynamic, but yeah, as a story, you don't
- 44:44Speaker 3: know what they're doing with her.
- 44:45Speaker 6: Yeah, exactly. Exactly. I felt she was the least realized.
- 44:48Speaker 3: And I was going to see what your take was
- 44:51Speaker 3: on having all these other movies come out since then.
- 44:54Speaker 3: Something like, kick-ass that looks at it in a very
- 44:57Speaker 3: you know different view.
- 44:58Speaker 6: Yeah like a real yeah i love that movie or.
- 45:01Speaker 3: Um or again then as much as kick-ass sort of
- 45:03Speaker 3: like flipped it over super one up that i mean
- 45:06Speaker 3: super is really hardcore i didn't see super oh man
- 45:10Speaker 3: it's i mean it's the same basic idea they're doing
- 45:12Speaker 3: with kick-ass but he just pulls no punches like he
- 45:16Speaker 3: it is a mean spirited movie at times And so
- 45:20Speaker 3: it is almost weird to go back and look at
- 45:23Speaker 3: the Raimi one now because it does seem innocent.
- 45:25Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah. It really is this wide-eyed comic book movie. Yeah,
- 45:30Speaker 5: and I love that. I think that's really fun.
- 45:34Speaker 3: And in a way, that's sort of why I still
- 45:37Speaker 3: ended up loving it, going back and re-watching it, because
- 45:41Speaker 3: it holds up in that version, that old-school kind of
- 45:44Speaker 3: real comic book kind of story.
- 45:46Speaker 11: Right.
- 45:47Speaker 3: Yeah, it's awesome.
- 45:48Speaker 8: You do too much. You're not Superman, you know.
- 45:50Speaker 3: Well, then, I guess, just to kind of wrap up,
- 45:53Speaker 3: just to sort of put it in perspective, of all the, like...
- 45:55Speaker 3: Because then, this is still the Marvel Universe, and we
- 45:58Speaker 3: had that giant wave of, like, Marvel superhero movies.
- 46:01Speaker 11: So, I don't know.
- 46:02Speaker 3: I mean, how does this fit into that for you?
- 46:04Speaker 6: Well, I mean, Avengers was Joss Whedon.
- 46:06Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 46:07Speaker 6: I'm sorry, but that's a different.
- 46:08Speaker 5: That is a different animal.
- 46:10Speaker 23: Yeah.
- 46:10Speaker 6: It's a different level. He's done commercial stuff. He's done
- 46:13Speaker 6: it really, really well. And, you know, the Avengers was...
- 46:18Speaker 6: what you strike where it's after you know when Bryan
- 46:20Speaker 6: Singer did X-Men yeah you want that level where they
- 46:24Speaker 6: understand the dynamic of everybody and I mean to juggle
- 46:29Speaker 6: all those different characters but he did it so well
- 46:32Speaker 6: and kept it simple in terms of, you know, eight
- 46:34Speaker 6: bad guys coming from space, you know. But it left
- 46:38Speaker 6: us with, I mean, you know, the best of Mark
- 46:41Speaker 6: Ruffalo was so great. Oh, yeah.
- 46:43Speaker 3: He's such a good addition to that story.
- 46:44Speaker 5: So great. And the Hulk obviously just stole the movie.
- 46:47Speaker 6: He does. But, you know, it was handled much better
- 46:51Speaker 6: where this one felt like. I mean, it was a
- 46:54Speaker 6: person's touch that we all respect as opposed to, you know,
- 46:58Speaker 6: this felt more like a business thing. To me, it
- 47:01Speaker 6: just felt more business-y, more like this is the new
- 47:04Speaker 6: way to build a franchise. I think they were trying
- 47:08Speaker 6: to learn from Christopher Nolan, but Christopher Nolan Lite doesn't work.
- 47:14Speaker 3: And I think that's where the Mark Webb went. I mean,
- 47:16Speaker 3: that's the thing. He's a talented director.
- 47:18Speaker 1: Yes.
- 47:20Speaker 3: Potential what he could do with stuff but to me
- 47:22Speaker 3: i think what they didn't do is they didn't stray
- 47:24Speaker 3: far enough with the right right it seems so familiar
- 47:28Speaker 3: and again i think that's why i'm so bored that
- 47:29Speaker 3: first hour or more i'm just like get to it
- 47:31Speaker 3: we've seen the origin we know how he gets bit
- 47:34Speaker 3: we know how he learns to use his power like
- 47:36Speaker 3: again we've already seen that in all these other ones
- 47:38Speaker 3: it's like we don't lay down.
- 47:39Speaker 6: You're the father thing if you're not going to do
- 47:41Speaker 6: anything yeah then let it be an obsession let it
- 47:43Speaker 6: be something that drives him and he keeps saying but
- 47:45Speaker 6: you knew my father where did he go i mean
- 47:47Speaker 6: you know.
- 47:47Speaker 3: So, yeah, I think that's where the new one sort
- 47:49Speaker 3: of falls short, is it doesn't do enough. Like, if
- 47:51Speaker 3: they're going to do, especially bringing in an arty director
- 47:53Speaker 3: like that, if they're going to do something different, skip
- 47:56Speaker 3: that origin story. Focus on, you know, he's a relationship
- 47:58Speaker 3: kind of director, you know. Focus on that weird Emma
- 48:01Speaker 3: Stone thing that he didn't do. Whereas, Raimi just does
- 48:05Speaker 3: a cool comic book movie, and that's why it holds
- 48:07Speaker 3: up so well.
- 48:07Speaker 5: He's a bigger fan.
- 48:08Speaker 11: Definitely.
- 48:10Speaker 3: Awesome, man.
- 48:10Speaker 5: Thanks for letting me sit on the sofa.
- 48:12Speaker 6: Thanks for sitting in.
- 48:14Speaker 3: And should people find you online?
- 48:16Speaker 6: Yeah, you go to ThatGuy, you go to www.facebook.com, ThatGuySeanWhalen,
- 48:23Speaker 6: no spaces, and you can always message me there. And
- 48:26Speaker 6: my Twitter is at ThatGuySMW.
- 48:30Speaker 3: Very cool. Good to have you on the show this week,
- 48:31Speaker 3: and thanks for sitting in with us.
- 48:33Speaker 9: All right.
- 48:33Speaker 6: Thank you.
- 48:51Speaker 24: Spider-Man, Spider-Man, does whatever a spider can. Spins a web,
- 49:01Speaker 24: sweet surprise, catches thieves, just like flies.
- 49:05Speaker 15: Look out!
- 49:09Speaker 24: Here comes the Spider-Man!
- 49:12Speaker 11: Spider-Man! He's got strongness and blood.
- 49:24Speaker 15: He's got radioactive blood. Can it swing from a thread?
- 49:32Speaker 15: No escape from his spider web.
- 49:36Speaker 8: Look out!
- 49:44Speaker 7: Listen and understand that Metal Mikey is out there. It
- 49:48Speaker 7: can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It
- 49:51Speaker 7: doesn't feel pity or remorse or fear. And it absolutely
- 49:56Speaker 7: will not stop ever until you are an action attraction fan.
- 50:02Speaker 7: Action attraction. Your home for all things action. To find
- 50:07Speaker 7: out more, visit metalmikey.lipson.com or search for Action Attraction in iTunes.
- 50:19Speaker 3: Hi, you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 50:23Speaker 8: This is Patti Mullen.
- 50:24Speaker 6: Want a date?
- 50:25Speaker 8: Going out?
- 50:27Speaker 25: Looking for some action?
- 50:29Speaker 24: Need some company?
- 50:31Speaker 3: Have fun.
- 50:38Speaker 15: It's part of your problem.
- 50:44Speaker 3: You know, you haven't seen enough movies. All of life's
- 50:46Speaker 3: riddles are answered in the movies.
- 50:48Speaker 11: And now, on with the show.
- 51:07Speaker 15: Living on the edge, fighting cries, spinning webs, swinging from
- 51:10Speaker 15: the highest ledge, he could leap above our heads. Villains
- 51:20Speaker 15: on the rise and the cities victimized, looking up with
- 51:23Speaker 15: no surprise, arriving in the speed of time.
- 51:26Speaker 8: Ah.
- 51:33Speaker 6: All right, so we're back.
- 51:35Speaker 15: And now, Misty.
- 51:36Speaker 11: Hello.
- 51:37Speaker 6: And Junior here. Hey, what's up?
- 52:03Speaker 8: I don't know if we need to discuss the convention
- 52:05Speaker 8: in any way.
- 52:07Speaker 3: What's your take on it?
- 52:08Speaker 8: It's pretty good.
- 52:10Speaker 3: I think it's been going pretty well.
- 52:11Speaker 8: My boyfriend got a date with somebody else, apparently.
- 52:14Speaker 3: Hell yeah.
- 52:15Speaker 26: Yeah.
- 52:16Speaker 8: Was it Patty Mullen? Is that her name? The Frankenhooker?
- 52:19Speaker 3: Frankenhooker.
- 52:21Speaker 8: She is ridiculously cute and beautiful and sweet.
- 52:23Speaker 3: Very nice. And looks really good.
- 52:26Speaker 8: We can't really decide how old she is.
- 52:29Speaker 3: We were trying to do the math.
- 52:30Speaker 8: Apparently everybody was wrong when the movie was released. Because
- 52:32Speaker 8: apparently everybody thinks it was from the 80s. But according
- 52:35Speaker 8: to the internet, it was out in the 1990s. I
- 52:38Speaker 8: don't know, but whatever. But either way, she still looks
- 52:40Speaker 8: really nice.
- 52:41Speaker 3: She looks good. And she was ridiculously, like, cheery to
- 52:44Speaker 3: be there.
- 52:45Speaker 6: I know, right?
- 52:46Speaker 3: What's up with that?
- 52:46Speaker 8: Maybe she doesn't do very many conventions.
- 52:48Speaker 3: Maybe so.
- 52:49Speaker 8: And then we saw Tracy Lord's cleavage.
- 52:52Speaker 11: Yes.
- 52:52Speaker 3: Yes, we did.
- 52:53Speaker 8: Which, for her age, is still quite doable, I guess.
- 52:58Speaker 3: Literally, I suppose.
- 53:00Speaker 11: I don't know.
- 53:01Speaker 3: At first I thought maybe she had weird stuff done recently.
- 53:04Speaker 3: But no, I think they're just wasted. I think it's
- 53:06Speaker 3: just the presentation on them.
- 53:08Speaker 8: They got, like, a crane in there or something?
- 53:11Speaker 3: Sometimes you got to put a little work into it.
- 53:13Speaker 8: Some tape? Some hoists? Is there little elves in there, like,
- 53:16Speaker 8: hoisting that shit up?
- 53:18Speaker 3: We can go ask her and see. You're in charge
- 53:19Speaker 3: of that part.
- 53:20Speaker 8: No, I'm kind of afraid. She might, like, throw stuff
- 53:22Speaker 8: at me.
- 53:23Speaker 3: Maybe so.
- 53:25Speaker 8: But, I mean, for her age, I don't know how
- 53:27Speaker 8: old she is. She still looks okay.
- 53:29Speaker 3: She looked pretty good. Yeah, she's had a rough life,
- 53:32Speaker 3: so I was pleased to see she's looking good and
- 53:35Speaker 3: hanging in there.
- 53:36Speaker 8: Literally hang it in there.
- 53:38Speaker 3: Or out, depending on.
- 53:42Speaker 8: What else? I bought some trading cards. That was pretty exciting.
- 53:46Speaker 8: So hopefully I'll have my complete set of Rocketeer cards now,
- 53:49Speaker 8: considering the last time I bought like 40 packs and
- 53:51Speaker 8: I'm still missing one fucking card. One fucking card out
- 53:54Speaker 8: of the entire fucking set. One card. So if my
- 53:57Speaker 8: one card is not in this incomplete box that I
- 53:59Speaker 8: have right here beside me, I'm going to be pissed.
- 54:02Speaker 8: And then I bought some monsters in my pocket cards.
- 54:04Speaker 8: I'm pretty excited about those, too. I'm excited about trading cards.
- 54:08Speaker 3: Misty has a trading card problem, if you will.
- 54:11Speaker 8: My problem is I don't have enough. It's very relaxing.
- 54:14Speaker 8: It calms my nerves. Whatever it takes, I'm okay with it.
- 54:17Speaker 3: She buys them and sorts them and categorizes them and
- 54:21Speaker 3: packages them.
- 54:22Speaker 8: Put them in a binder. They have to be in order.
- 54:24Speaker 8: The whole process is very... I'm pretty sure I've already
- 54:27Speaker 8: discussed this before, but the whole process... getting the trading
- 54:30Speaker 8: cards and putting them in order and putting them in
- 54:32Speaker 8: a binder is very therapeutic for me so whatever keeps
- 54:34Speaker 8: me from killing everybody else in the world we should
- 54:37Speaker 8: all be happy because that's what it's that's what you
- 54:39Speaker 8: know trading cards.
- 54:40Speaker 3: It's in your best interest jay best best interest and.
- 54:44Speaker 8: If i get trading cards that are already in order
- 54:46Speaker 8: i make jay shuffle them for me so that i
- 54:47Speaker 8: have the joy of putting them in order again because
- 54:49Speaker 8: otherwise it's just frustrating.
- 54:51Speaker 3: This is what i'm saying there's a problem edward but
- 54:53Speaker 3: i mean you're dealing with it you found the most
- 54:54Speaker 3: productive way.
- 54:55Speaker 8: To deal with it i haven't killed anybody yet.
- 54:58Speaker 3: That's good today The day. It's still early, but.
- 55:01Speaker 8: Yeah, we ain't done yet. The day ain't over, bitches.
- 55:05Speaker 3: So, as of the last convention we were at, which
- 55:10Speaker 3: has only been a week, really, but, you know, we're
- 55:12Speaker 3: mixing up episodes, but last time we were at a convention,
- 55:15Speaker 3: we were given something, and Misty has taken it upon
- 55:18Speaker 3: herself to... What are we calling your book segment? I
- 55:22Speaker 3: Can Read?
- 55:22Speaker 8: I Can Read!
- 55:23Speaker 6: I Can Read!
- 55:27Speaker 11: And it's.
- 55:40Speaker 8: Got pictures. It's not a pop-up book, so I was
- 55:43Speaker 8: kind of disappointed in that, but it's a book, and
- 55:45Speaker 8: it's got a lot of pictures, and it's got a
- 55:48Speaker 8: couple words.
- 55:49Speaker 3: So Misty's going to give her take on this piece
- 55:52Speaker 3: of literature.
- 55:53Speaker 8: It's a fine piece of literature. It is called Bad
- 55:57Speaker 8: Off Boris and the Cupcake Cave-In. I think, let's see,
- 56:00Speaker 8: the story is written by Scott Mallory and the art
- 56:04Speaker 8: and digital compilation by Robbie Brown. And it's about Boris
- 56:09Speaker 8: and he's a cupcake. And the art in here is
- 56:13Speaker 8: ridiculously cute. It's all like kind of dark art. But
- 56:17Speaker 8: it's in a cupcake land, so it's got like cupcakes
- 56:21Speaker 8: and desserts. And it's got, it's like Boris Karloff if
- 56:24Speaker 8: he was a cupcake.
- 56:25Speaker 3: Yeah, it's like Frankenstein style Boris Karloff, only his head
- 56:30Speaker 3: is like a cupcake.
- 56:31Speaker 8: And his best friend is Boris, who looks like Boris Karloff.
- 56:37Speaker 11: Bella.
- 56:37Speaker 8: Bella Lugosi, I was Boris as the main character. I'm sorry,
- 56:39Speaker 8: I got confused, it's so complex. So, yeah, Bella is
- 56:43Speaker 8: Bella Lugosi, and he looks like the Dracula and everything,
- 56:46Speaker 8: and he's got a little red cherry on his head,
- 56:48Speaker 8: and he's so cute.
- 56:48Speaker 3: Because he's also a cupcake.
- 56:50Speaker 8: Well, it's a very sad story, but the artwork in
- 56:52Speaker 8: here is fantastic. I mean, I do love the art.
- 56:54Speaker 8: It's very... It's creepy.
- 56:57Speaker 6: But it's cute.
- 56:57Speaker 8: Is that making any sense?
- 56:59Speaker 18: It is, actually.
- 57:01Speaker 3: It's almost, like, darker than you would expect for a
- 57:04Speaker 3: kid's book, but at the same time, it's like... very
- 57:07Speaker 3: uplifting story and, you know, has fun cupcakes and stuff.
- 57:10Speaker 8: You didn't read the story at all, did you?
- 57:13Speaker 3: I can read.
- 57:14Speaker 6: No, you can't.
- 57:15Speaker 17: Oh, man.
- 57:16Speaker 3: There's pictures. I looked at the pictures.
- 57:17Speaker 8: It's a sad story. Boris, he's pretty badass, and apparently
- 57:21Speaker 8: he likes nothing more than to play basketball. Well, then
- 57:23Speaker 8: his leg breaks. I completely laugh. Like, if you're a cupcake,
- 57:27Speaker 8: that's a hazard you might have to face in life.
- 57:29Speaker 3: It really is a scary picture. His leg's just snapping off.
- 57:31Speaker 8: It's like disintegrating in cupcake crumbs or something. So he's sad.
- 57:36Speaker 8: And he goes to get the job at the Cupcake Factory,
- 57:40Speaker 8: at the Cupcake Cave, which is where the story, I guess,
- 57:42Speaker 8: the climax takes place. But apparently he makes a wish
- 57:48Speaker 8: on this bottle, and it gives him apparently this ass-kicking boot.
- 57:53Speaker 8: And Boris, he saves the day. He's all like Big
- 57:56Speaker 8: John and shit from the Big John song.
- 57:58Speaker 3: Do we need a spoiler alert on this?
- 58:01Speaker 8: It's a very uplifting story. And I'd say for the
- 58:04Speaker 8: artwork alone, you should at least look at it, because
- 58:06Speaker 8: the artwork's fantastic. I love it. That's why I was like, yay, artwork.
- 58:10Speaker 8: And if I could find the website, I would tell
- 58:14Speaker 8: you what it was.
- 58:14Speaker 5: It's in the book.
- 58:16Speaker 16: Hold on.
- 58:16Speaker 8: I'm pretty sure it's in here. God damn it. Oh,
- 58:22Speaker 8: the website would be www.blackcloudbooks.com. Or there's another one, too, www.dungeoncomics.net.
- 58:31Speaker 8: You should be able to find some information on it
- 58:34Speaker 8: on there. But like I said, the artwork alone is
- 58:36Speaker 8: pretty damn awesome. So I highly recommend Bad Off Boris
- 58:40Speaker 8: and the Cupcake Cave-In because it's pretty fantastic. And Scott's
- 58:44Speaker 8: the one who pawned it off on us. So yay
- 58:46Speaker 8: for Scott and your uplifting story of cupcakes and cave-ins
- 58:50Speaker 8: and whatnot. So yay. And Robbie Brown did do some
- 58:54Speaker 8: fantastic artwork. I'm not going to lie. I was pretty excited.
- 58:57Speaker 8: That's what won me over. I mean, the story's all
- 58:58Speaker 8: uplifting if that's what you're into it. I'm not a
- 59:01Speaker 8: very uplifting person.
- 59:02Speaker 3: We all know.
- 59:03Speaker 8: Yeah, so I mean, i said the story is good
- 59:05Speaker 8: if you're it's it's it's a good story it's it's
- 59:07Speaker 8: it's got a happy ending if you're into that but
- 59:12Speaker 8: here he is kicking some ass look at that pretty damn.
- 59:14Speaker 3: Awesome that's a boom it's a boom boom kaboom hell yeah.
- 59:20Speaker 8: But uh yeah that's an awesome book so yay for
- 59:25Speaker 8: books and it's got pictures and i read.
- 59:26Speaker 3: It i can read i can read It would have
- 59:30Speaker 3: been better if it had.
- 59:31Speaker 8: Been a pop-up book, though.
- 59:33Speaker 3: So send all your pop-up books to Misty.
- 59:35Speaker 8: Hell yeah. Dude, that would be awesome. Or any good
- 59:39Speaker 8: pop-up book recommendations. That'd be rowdy. What else? I don't
- 59:48Speaker 8: think we have any other stories from this weekend so far.
- 59:49Speaker 8: I got a Bo Duke tattoo. That was pretty exciting.
- 59:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I guess we can do that. That's a pretty
- 59:55Speaker 3: geeky geek activity. Do you want to go into that?
- 59:58Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 59:59Speaker 3: I was getting my extra. I'd had an ongoing process.
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: Mine's just geekery. I don't know. It's pretty geeky, too, though.
- 1:00:06Speaker 3: It's total geekery porn.
- 1:00:07Speaker 11: Oh, my God.
- 1:00:08Speaker 8: Look at that girl's tattoo right there. It's got an
- 1:00:11Speaker 8: owl on it.
- 1:00:11Speaker 15: That's ridiculously cute.
- 1:00:14Speaker 9: Oh, my God.
- 1:00:15Speaker 3: Speaking of which, so when I was done, I set
- 1:00:17Speaker 3: Misty up with her appointment, and what did you get?
- 1:00:20Speaker 11: Bodook.
- 1:00:21Speaker 8: A young John Schneider in all his flippy hair glory.
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: He's looking at me right now.
- 1:00:24Speaker 8: He is.
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: It's kind of creepy. His eyes follow me.
- 1:00:26Speaker 8: He's gorgeous. He's like one of those Jesus pictures where
- 1:00:29Speaker 8: they follow you everywhere you go. That's photos. So yay.
- 1:00:34Speaker 8: It's pretty awesome. I'm pretty excited. Now Corey has a friend.
- 1:00:37Speaker 8: They hang out. They talk. They keep me up late
- 1:00:39Speaker 8: at night sometimes.
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: I can imagine this happening.
- 1:00:42Speaker 8: Power Satan and whatnot carrying on. Tell them one with
- 1:00:45Speaker 8: the other ones because they don't see the same thing
- 1:00:46Speaker 8: most of the time. One with one way, one with
- 1:00:48Speaker 8: the other. So they have to like get their story straight.
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: They are on opposite legs. That will happen, I suppose.
- 1:00:53Speaker 8: I know. That's why I have to cross my legs
- 1:00:56Speaker 8: so they can talk. I don't really do that because
- 1:00:58Speaker 8: that would just be silly.
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: There's so many reasons you have a problem.
- 1:01:00Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:01:01Speaker 6: So, so many. What else?
- 1:01:04Speaker 3: Do you have anything to share in this episode?
- 1:01:08Speaker 6: No. She likes books.
- 1:01:09Speaker 11: I don't know.
- 1:01:10Speaker 8: You don't have to talk about the book. Talk about
- 1:01:12Speaker 8: anything in general. Don't take awesome half of it.
- 1:01:15Speaker 11: I went to work.
- 1:01:16Speaker 3: I about melted my ass off.
- 1:01:18Speaker 8: That's not awesome.
- 1:01:19Speaker 3: No, it's not.
- 1:01:20Speaker 18: It sucks. Put them off this weekend.
- 1:01:24Speaker 3: So, hey, I'm up at the convention. Hanging out at
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: the convention. Hanging out at the convention.
- 1:01:27Speaker 26: Yeah.
- 1:01:29Speaker 8: You're stalking some cinnabites.
- 1:01:30Speaker 11: What?
- 1:01:31Speaker 8: Stalking some cinnabites.
- 1:01:32Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:01:32Speaker 3: As long as they got flavor crystals.
- 1:01:36Speaker 8: I have seen quite a few awesome outfits. We did
- 1:01:37Speaker 8: see the clown from It. That was pretty awesome because
- 1:01:39Speaker 8: he had balloons.
- 1:01:41Speaker 3: Wait, what was that guy's comment about it?
- 1:01:42Speaker 8: I don't remember.
- 1:01:43Speaker 3: He knew it. It's not rape if I have balloons.
- 1:01:46Speaker 9: No. No.
- 1:01:47Speaker 3: That was the t-shirt we saw.
- 1:01:48Speaker 8: You know what's scary? What the fuck? I heard that too.
- 1:01:51Speaker 3: Something to that effect.
- 1:01:52Speaker 8: I don't remember the first part of it.
- 1:01:56Speaker 11: But yeah.
- 1:01:56Speaker 8: Just certain people's reactions. I think he's somebody who works here,
- 1:01:59Speaker 8: so he's not here for the convention. So when you
- 1:02:02Speaker 8: get an outsider who doesn't seem to understand what normally
- 1:02:06Speaker 8: goes on with these kind of things, they're just like,
- 1:02:08Speaker 8: oh my god. It's a whole different world for them.
- 1:02:10Speaker 8: They weren't thrusted too voluntarily. It just kind of takes
- 1:02:13Speaker 8: them by surprise.
- 1:02:15Speaker 3: You just come to work at the hotel, and next
- 1:02:16Speaker 3: thing you know, you're surrounded by creepy, creepy people.
- 1:02:19Speaker 8: Yeah, and us.
- 1:02:20Speaker 3: I included us in that first one.
- 1:02:22Speaker 8: I'm not creepy. I'm not creepy at all. I don't
- 1:02:25Speaker 8: think I am.
- 1:02:25Speaker 3: Sure.
- 1:02:26Speaker 8: I'm awesome. I scanned a picture of Sean Patrick Flannery,
- 1:02:31Speaker 8: and I'm pretty excited.
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: That was last time.
- 1:02:33Speaker 8: I know that was totally last week, but still, I
- 1:02:34Speaker 8: got my picture of Sean Patrick Flannery. And I got
- 1:02:36Speaker 8: two pictures, and I don't think his face moved.
- 1:02:38Speaker 3: I'm surprised he had time to take a break from
- 1:02:41Speaker 3: going to the bathroom.
- 1:02:41Speaker 8: Dude, seriously. I wish I could have scammed one with
- 1:02:44Speaker 8: Norman Reedus, too. He was so greasy.
- 1:02:48Speaker 3: I was in there at the same time he was,
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: one of his 40 or 50 times.
- 1:02:50Speaker 8: Did he wash his hands?
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: Yes, he did, actually. I was very proud of him
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: on that front.
- 1:02:54Speaker 8: Was it Norman Reedus or Sean Patrick Finer?
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: No, Sean Patrick Finer.
- 1:02:56Speaker 11: Good.
- 1:02:57Speaker 3: I was trying not to look at him too much
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: because it goes against the code when you're, or at
- 1:03:01Speaker 3: least within a certain group of guys in the bathroom.
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: I guess certain guys have different roles. But in general,
- 1:03:07Speaker 3: usually it's, you know, you don't, like, stare at other people.
- 1:03:09Speaker 8: You should have been taking pictures.
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: That's not cool. Yeah, you don't look over.
- 1:03:14Speaker 6: Hey, what's going on?
- 1:03:14Speaker 3: I like you. Eye contact in the bathroom leads to
- 1:03:17Speaker 3: very odd situations.
- 1:03:19Speaker 8: Hey, powder, what you got there?
- 1:03:23Speaker 3: Hey, nice cock. This is why I didn't say any
- 1:03:27Speaker 3: of these. I was like, yeah, I'll have to go
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: tell Misty I was in the bathroom with John Patrick Flanagan.
- 1:03:32Speaker 8: I got my picture taken with him.
- 1:03:34Speaker 3: I did not take any pictures in there.
- 1:03:36Speaker 8: You should have. That would have been awesome. I probably
- 1:03:38Speaker 8: would have posted those on Facebook.
- 1:03:39Speaker 3: Dude, can we pose?
- 1:03:40Speaker 8: Let's get somebody to stand behind you two at the urinal.
- 1:03:45Speaker 3: And give them thumbs up. That would have been awesome.
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: Two thumbs up.
- 1:03:51Speaker 7: Oh, crap.
- 1:03:51Speaker 6: I'm trying to.
- 1:03:54Speaker 8: Think of any other awesome stories we had from last
- 1:03:56Speaker 8: weekend since we didn't talk that much during part of it. No,
- 1:04:00Speaker 8: I don't have any. Are there any more awesome stories
- 1:04:03Speaker 8: from this week?
- 1:04:04Speaker 15: A dick?
- 1:04:04Speaker 11: No.
- 1:04:05Speaker 6: We're going to talk about how much.
- 1:04:07Speaker 8: I'm pretty sure Ace Freed is a dick.
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: Yeah, we're not really thrilled with his pricing on his signatures.
- 1:04:15Speaker 8: I'm not a Kiss fan in general, so I think
- 1:04:17Speaker 8: it's ridiculous. I mean, $ 30 to sign something, that's at
- 1:04:20Speaker 8: least reasonable, I suppose.
- 1:04:22Speaker 3: That's the way the system works.
- 1:04:23Speaker 8: But then they're going to have like $ 60 for premium items.
- 1:04:26Speaker 8: They determine what's premium. What the fuck are you to
- 1:04:29Speaker 8: determine what's premium, you asshat? Because you're bringing your own shit,
- 1:04:32Speaker 8: you know?
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: Whenever they can charge more.
- 1:04:34Speaker 8: And then $ 500 goddamn dollars to sign a fucking guitar
- 1:04:37Speaker 8: that you own.
- 1:04:38Speaker 3: Yeah, your own guitar.
- 1:04:39Speaker 8: It's not like he's selling you a guitar. He's writing
- 1:04:41Speaker 8: his goddamn name on a guitar.
- 1:04:42Speaker 3: He probably could. He works at Guitar Center now, doesn't he?
- 1:04:45Speaker 15: I don't know.
- 1:04:45Speaker 8: Oh, I didn't see Mink Stoll in there.
- 1:04:47Speaker 3: She might have got the table earlier. I didn't talk
- 1:04:50Speaker 3: to Dick Miller. He was awesome. He's old.
- 1:04:53Speaker 6: That's what happens. He's like 83.
- 1:04:55Speaker 5: What do you expect?
- 1:04:57Speaker 3: He's hanging in there, man. Telling fun Gremlins facts.
- 1:05:00Speaker 5: I don't think you heard what I was talking about.
- 1:05:03Speaker 8: I love Gremlins. I love Gizmo.
- 1:05:06Speaker 3: You're an artist, aren't you?
- 1:05:08Speaker 8: I'm an artist.
- 1:05:09Speaker 3: So yeah, I got to meet Dick Miller. That was fun.
- 1:05:13Speaker 3: That was very cool. Anything else we need to plug?
- 1:05:19Speaker 11: I mean.
- 1:05:20Speaker 8: I finally finished The Walking Dead 2 and the mom
- 1:05:23Speaker 8: is a stupid whore. Yeah.
- 1:05:29Speaker 6: I can't argue that, actually. She's the worst mom ever.
- 1:05:32Speaker 8: And Daryl's the best part of the show.
- 1:05:34Speaker 11: That show.
- 1:05:34Speaker 8: Normally we read a few songs.
- 1:05:35Speaker 3: Yeah. Somebody needs to be watching that damn kid. That's
- 1:05:38Speaker 3: all I got to say.
- 1:05:39Speaker 5: Dude's serious.
- 1:05:40Speaker 11: That kid?
- 1:05:40Speaker 8: No, he's not. He's not in the fucking house. Why
- 1:05:43Speaker 8: is he never, like, why is nobody ever watching that child?
- 1:05:46Speaker 3: They're both kind of the worst parents.
- 1:05:47Speaker 11: Because nobody cares.
- 1:05:48Speaker 3: Everybody wants him dead. I guess.
- 1:05:49Speaker 5: But really, just kill the mom.
- 1:05:51Speaker 3: The moms are really annoying.
- 1:05:53Speaker 6: The kid's running a close second, I suppose.
- 1:05:55Speaker 8: That kid.
- 1:05:57Speaker 3: They need a leash for him, I swear.
- 1:05:58Speaker 8: Little monkey shaped ones. Those are pretty funny. I wanted
- 1:06:01Speaker 8: to beat that kid to death. I was rooting for
- 1:06:03Speaker 8: the zombie down by the creek.
- 1:06:05Speaker 6: I kind of was too.
- 1:06:06Speaker 3: I was like, can we bring Sophia back and trade
- 1:06:08Speaker 3: her out?
- 1:06:09Speaker 8: Yeah, I like Sophia.
- 1:06:10Speaker 6: She went a little faster.
- 1:06:10Speaker 3: Sophia seemed alright. Let's trade her out for that kid.
- 1:06:14Speaker 3: He gets them in trouble every time.
- 1:06:15Speaker 8: I know, right?
- 1:06:16Speaker 6: He's a little weenie.
- 1:06:17Speaker 8: If he'd actually fucking shot the zombie down by the
- 1:06:19Speaker 8: fucking creek. Dale would still be around. Dale's getting kind
- 1:06:24Speaker 8: of annoying.
- 1:06:24Speaker 3: Dale was pretty whiny too, really. But he was the
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: voice of reason that they kind of needed.
- 1:06:29Speaker 8: Nobody likes the voice of reason.
- 1:06:30Speaker 3: No, no, that's why he's dead now.
- 1:06:32Speaker 8: Actually, I think the best, most level-headed, most fucking clearest-minded
- 1:06:36Speaker 8: motherfucker on there is Daryl Dixon. And that's a goddamn shame.
- 1:06:39Speaker 8: He is the most common-sense, level-headed, to me it seems like,
- 1:06:43Speaker 8: the most easy-to-get-along-with.
- 1:06:45Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:06:48Speaker 27: He's eating squirrels or wearing ear necklaces.
- 1:06:51Speaker 3: He's not crazy.
- 1:06:52Speaker 25: I'd hang out with him over half of them anyways,
- 1:06:54Speaker 25: as long as he leaves the squirrels at home, you know?
- 1:06:57Speaker 25: I ain't cool with that, but everybody's got their thing,
- 1:06:59Speaker 25: you know? I got trading cards, he's got squirrels, you know?
- 1:07:03Speaker 8: And ears. I'm okay with that. Even the zombie ears
- 1:07:05Speaker 8: don't bother me that damn much.
- 1:07:06Speaker 3: That's fine. People used to do that in war, you know?
- 1:07:09Speaker 3: It's a zombie war. That's what happens, man.
- 1:07:11Speaker 11: Or tongs.
- 1:07:14Speaker 8: But yeah, I'd hang out with Daryl. I want to
- 1:07:18Speaker 8: get at him with a washcloth first, because.
- 1:07:21Speaker 3: Hose him down.
- 1:07:21Speaker 8: That bitch is grubby.
- 1:07:24Speaker 3: Zombie apocalypse. I guess that happened.
- 1:07:26Speaker 8: Everybody, nobody else is that damn dirty.
- 1:07:28Speaker 3: Well, he's dirty.
- 1:07:29Speaker 6: I know.
- 1:07:31Speaker 8: I clean him up. I get a rag, I spit
- 1:07:34Speaker 8: on it. Like that. That's my cleanest dad. Thanks, squeaky
- 1:07:40Speaker 8: clean later, rubber ducky.
- 1:07:41Speaker 9: Wow.
- 1:07:42Speaker 3: What?
- 1:07:43Speaker 8: It's kind of greasy. He kind of needs it in
- 1:07:46Speaker 8: real life. No, I'd wash his hair for him. I'd
- 1:07:49Speaker 8: get him some of that, uh, That, uh... What's that
- 1:07:52Speaker 8: shampoo where you gotta use water? That way I don't
- 1:07:53Speaker 8: have to get him wet. You get that dry shampoo.
- 1:07:56Speaker 3: He's always in the bathroom.
- 1:07:58Speaker 10: Dude.
- 1:08:00Speaker 8: You wanna try to hold him down?
- 1:08:01Speaker 3: No, not really.
- 1:08:01Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 1:08:02Speaker 8: He seems like he's lost weight. I could probably take
- 1:08:03Speaker 8: him at this point.
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: You might be able to.
- 1:08:05Speaker 8: You're getting kind of spindly. Aw, there he is on
- 1:08:07Speaker 8: the phone. Yay. Off track.
- 1:08:13Speaker 3: Alright, I think that should wrap it up.
- 1:08:15Speaker 9: So.
- 1:08:16Speaker 3: We have enjoyed our day here at the Days of
- 1:08:18Speaker 3: the Dead. And thanks to Sean for sitting in with us.
- 1:08:22Speaker 3: And otherwise, they've got several more. They've spread out quite
- 1:08:25Speaker 3: a bit in this last year.
- 1:08:26Speaker 6: They're going to.
- 1:08:27Speaker 8: Be in, what, Chicago?
- 1:08:28Speaker 6: Chicago.
- 1:08:29Speaker 8: L.A.
- 1:08:30Speaker 3: Got three or four a year now at least.
- 1:08:32Speaker 6: Is it Atlanta?
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: I think so, yeah. So all of it should be
- 1:08:37Speaker 3: at daysofthedead.net.
- 1:08:39Speaker 8: Days of the Dead.net.
- 1:08:40Speaker 3: There you go. So, yeah, go check it out. And
- 1:08:44Speaker 3: that should be it.
- 1:08:45Speaker 8: Check out Bad Off Boris and the Cupcake Cave-In. I'm
- 1:08:48Speaker 8: hoping I got that right because Jay already.
- 1:08:50Speaker 3: Put the book up. Otherwise, that about does it. We
- 1:08:54Speaker 3: will return next week. Same geek time, same geek group.
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: Thanks for listening.
- 1:08:58Speaker 9: Bye.
- 1:08:59Speaker 8: I can read.
- 1:08:59Speaker 25: Bye.
- 1:09:03Speaker 23: Poor Peter Parker was pitiful Couldn't have been any shyer
- 1:09:12Speaker 23: Mary Jane still wouldn't notice him Even.
- 1:09:16Speaker 6: If his hair was.
- 1:09:18Speaker 3: On fire.
- 1:09:22Speaker 26: He went to that science lab That mutated spider came
- 1:09:28Speaker 26: down Oh, and now Peter crawls over everyone's walls And
- 1:09:33Speaker 26: he's swinging all over town.
- 1:09:37Speaker 17: La, la, la, la-dee-da-ha La, la, la-dee-da-da-da-da.
- 1:09:51Speaker 21: You're the Spider-Man Sing us a web tonight Cause we're
- 1:09:57Speaker 21: all in the mood for a hero now And there's
- 1:10:01Speaker 21: evildoers to fight.
- 1:10:18Speaker 23: Now Harry the rich kid's a friend to his Who
- 1:10:22Speaker 23: horns in on Mary Jane But to his great surprise
- 1:10:28Speaker 23: it seems she prefers guys Who can kiss upside down in.
- 1:10:32Speaker 4: The rain.
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: With great power comes great responsibility That's the catchphrase of
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: old Uncle Ben.
- 1:10:43Speaker 21: If you missed it, don't worry, they'll.
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: Say the line Again and again and.
- 1:10:49Speaker 17: Again Oh, la, la, la, dee, dee, dah La, la, dee, dee, dah, dah, dah.
- 1:11:03Speaker 23: Now Norman's a billionaire scientist Who never had time for
- 1:11:09Speaker 23: his son But then something went screwy And before you
- 1:11:14Speaker 23: knew he was trying to kill everyone.
- 1:11:20Speaker 10: And he's riding around on that glider thing And he's
- 1:11:24Speaker 10: throwing that weird pumpkin bomb Yes, he's wearing that dumb
- 1:11:30Speaker 10: Power Rangers mask But.
- 1:11:32Speaker 2: He's scarier without it on Sling us a web, you're.
- 1:11:54Speaker 21: The Spider-Man Sling us a web tonight Cause you're brave
- 1:12:00Speaker 21: and you're strong and so limber now But where'd you
- 1:12:04Speaker 21: come up with those tights?
- 1:12:21Speaker 23: It's a pretty sad day at the funeral. Norman Osborn
- 1:12:26Speaker 23: has bitten the dust. And I heard Harry said he
- 1:12:30Speaker 23: wants Spider-Man dead. Ah, but his buddy Pete, he can trust.
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: Oh, and MJ is all hot for Peter now.
- 1:12:42Speaker 26: Ah, but Peter, he just shuts her down.
- 1:12:46Speaker 19: Mary Jane, don't you cry.
- 1:12:48Speaker 3: You can give it a try.
- 1:12:50Speaker 23: Again, when the sequel comes around.
- 1:12:53Speaker 9: Hola.
- 1:12:59Speaker 19: Sling us a web, you're the Spider-Man. Sling us a
- 1:13:11Speaker 19: web tonight.
- 1:13:13Speaker 15: Cause we all sure could use us a hero now.
- 1:13:18Speaker 19: We think that you'll do all right.
- 1:13:38Speaker 27: It seems odd because all the movie covers I remember
- 1:13:43Speaker 27: were like faded by the sun.
- 1:13:45Speaker 2: It just doesn't seem.
- 1:13:48Speaker 27: It seems more like, to me, I remember like maybe mid-80s,
- 1:13:53Speaker 27: late 80s.
- 1:13:53Speaker 3: I'm thinking like 86. That's what I'm thinking.
- 1:13:56Speaker 11: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:13:57Speaker 27: Because I seem to remember that being in the video store.
- 1:13:59Speaker 11: That's weird.
- 1:13:59Speaker 3: By 90, I wasn't really in, you know? I don't know.
- 1:14:04Speaker 11: Maybe like you said.
- 1:14:08Speaker 18: This episode is a production of Movie Meltdown, produced and
