- 0:00Speaker 1: It's called self love for a reason, right, not man
- 0:05Speaker 1: love or we love or even partner love. We get
- 0:10Speaker 1: to manage how we feel. Hey, Hurdler's Emily a Body
- 0:27Speaker 1: here bringing you another installment of Hurdle Moment from Hurdle,
- 0:31Speaker 1: a wellness focused podcast where I sit down with inspiring
- 0:34Speaker 1: individuals to talk about everything from their big wins to
- 0:38Speaker 1: how they've gotten through some of life's toughest moments. Now,
- 0:41Speaker 1: with the weekly Hurdle Moment episodes, I'm diving into the
- 0:45Speaker 1: topics that are either on my mind or the questions
- 0:48Speaker 1: coming through my dms. And you can always reach out
- 0:51Speaker 1: to me on Instagram, either over at Emily a Body
- 0:54Speaker 1: that's a b b ate or at Hurdle Podcast. Well,
- 1:01Speaker 1: it's the week of Love, and so that's what we're
- 1:04Speaker 1: talking about. I was looking at my time hoop the
- 1:07Speaker 1: other day and I realized that the last time that
- 1:09Speaker 1: I was actually in a relationship on Valentine's Day was
- 1:13Speaker 1: twenty fifteen. I came home from work. I remember it
- 1:17Speaker 1: was a weeknight, and my boyfriend at the time had
- 1:20Speaker 1: surprised me by making Natella dipped strawberries. He also bought
- 1:26Speaker 1: me and I wish I was joking a ladle as
- 1:29Speaker 1: a gift, like the type of kitchen implement that you
- 1:33Speaker 1: make pancakes with or serve sauce with. In retrospect, it
- 1:38Speaker 1: was really thoughtful because he knew that I needed said ladle,
- 1:42Speaker 1: and I wanted to buy one, But I wouldn't necessarily
- 1:45Speaker 1: say that it was on the top of my things
- 1:48Speaker 1: that most women want for Valentine's Day list. I digress.
- 1:52Speaker 1: So I was sitting in my living room thinking about
- 1:55Speaker 1: my history with Valentine's Day, reading my twenty third estimated
- 1:59Speaker 1: toted email of the morning referencing the Hallmark holiday, and
- 2:02Speaker 1: realize that, well, it's bs because none of these emails,
- 2:07Speaker 1: or my dating history or anything else, none of that
- 2:10Speaker 1: gets to shape how I feel about myself this week.
- 2:14Speaker 1: It's called self love for a reason, right, not man
- 2:19Speaker 1: love or we love or even partner love. We get
- 2:24Speaker 1: to manage how we feel. And although other people are
- 2:28Speaker 1: targeted marketing emails may tug at her heartstrings every now
- 2:31Speaker 1: and again, it is just so valuable when you realize
- 2:35Speaker 1: how powerful it is to have that control. So today
- 2:41Speaker 1: I am reading you a love letter that I should
- 2:44Speaker 1: have written a long long time ago, the one that
- 2:48Speaker 1: I really deserve this week, and when you're done listening
- 2:52Speaker 1: to today's episode, I would love it so much if
- 2:56Speaker 1: you head on over to the Hurdle Instagram and click
- 2:58Speaker 1: into the stories to get a template that you yourself
- 3:01Speaker 1: can fill out too. I'd love to know what it
- 3:04Speaker 1: is that you love about yourself, whether you are singled
- 3:08Speaker 1: or attached, whatever the case may be. Regardless of your status,
- 3:12Speaker 1: we all deserve some compassion. Now, before I get into it,
- 3:17Speaker 1: I want to take a moment to give some love
- 3:19Speaker 1: to my sponsor at Beam. I went to Miami last
- 3:23Speaker 1: weekend to run the Miami Half Marathon and there are
- 3:25Speaker 1: a few things I knew that I could not leave
- 3:28Speaker 1: home without, one of them being Beam's Fixer salve. It
- 3:33Speaker 1: is the perfect blend of organic CBD extract, lavender oil
- 3:37Speaker 1: and rejuvenating eucalyptus and I put it on all of
- 3:40Speaker 1: my achy spots after tough workouts or in this case,
- 3:44Speaker 1: that long run. It gives me a nice little cooling
- 3:47Speaker 1: sensation and also just gives my muscles a little bit
- 3:51Speaker 1: of TLC to get back in action just a little
- 3:54Speaker 1: bit sooner. You have to check it out. Trust me,
- 3:57Speaker 1: I know you're gonna love it. Head on over to
- 3:59Speaker 1: beam tlc dot com and use the code hurdle today
- 4:03Speaker 1: for fifteen percent off your order. Again, that's beam tlc
- 4:07Speaker 1: dot com and the code at checkout is hurdle for
- 4:10Speaker 1: fifteen percent off. Also on that definitely messaged me over
- 4:13Speaker 1: on Instagram with any beam questions. I am always here
- 4:17Speaker 1: to help you guys out. I've tried all the products
- 4:19Speaker 1: and I am a huge fan at Emily Abody at
- 4:24Speaker 1: Hurdle podcast on Instagram and Twitter. If you have a
- 4:27Speaker 1: hurdle moment of your own to share, or you just
- 4:29Speaker 1: want to say hi, you can always reach me over
- 4:32Speaker 1: on email. It's Emily at hurdle dot us. And with that,
- 4:37Speaker 1: let's get to hurdling. Last year, around this time of
- 4:46Speaker 1: sitting around a small table with a group of women
- 4:49Speaker 1: on a work trip in a Biza and we were
- 4:52Speaker 1: asked to write ourselves a letter. In the letter, we
- 4:57Speaker 1: could say anything we wanted. It was a safe space.
- 5:01Speaker 1: It was our opportunity to get something out. And so
- 5:05Speaker 1: I started writing. And when I was done, I was
- 5:11Speaker 1: beside myself because I realized that I took that opportunity
- 5:17Speaker 1: to be a downer. I got honest, and in getting honest,
- 5:24Speaker 1: I realized that my negative self talk was had what
- 5:28Speaker 1: felt like, at the moment, an all time high. I
- 5:33Speaker 1: remember that time I was struggling a lot. I was
- 5:35Speaker 1: struggling with my self image. I had gained some weight,
- 5:40Speaker 1: and I felt as though I was spiraling out of control,
- 5:42Speaker 1: that I couldn't get it under control, that my emotions,
- 5:45Speaker 1: my feelings, they were all over the place. After reading
- 5:49Speaker 1: that letter to myself in my room later that day,
- 5:53Speaker 1: I promised myself that I would shift the dialogue, that
- 5:56Speaker 1: I would make a change. And since then, about a
- 5:59Speaker 1: year ago, I have done so much work. I've talked
- 6:03Speaker 1: through a lot of those negative feelings often here on
- 6:06Speaker 1: the podcast, and they've been so well received and to
- 6:09Speaker 1: you all, I am so grateful for that. I am
- 6:13Speaker 1: here to take my power back and hopefully inspire you
- 6:17Speaker 1: to do the same as well. I am here to
- 6:22Speaker 1: write a love letter. Like I said in that intro,
- 6:25Speaker 1: I'd love for you to chime in on this as well,
- 6:27Speaker 1: because I think that it's really a beautiful exercise that
- 6:31Speaker 1: we can share and no matter what your relationship status is, again,
- 6:35Speaker 1: we are all worthy of self love. So here it goes, Haym.
- 6:44Speaker 1: I'm proud of you. I know, I don't tell you
- 6:47Speaker 1: that often enough, and it's a hard thing, right, stopping
- 6:50Speaker 1: to take the time to show your appreciation. I get it.
- 6:55Speaker 1: You're busy, Okay, okay, you're not just busy your product.
- 7:01Speaker 1: You're always thinking about what has to happen next, even
- 7:04Speaker 1: when you're taking the time to just chill out. And yeah,
- 7:09Speaker 1: some people might see that as some sort of character flaw,
- 7:12Speaker 1: but I want to tell you that I think it's
- 7:14Speaker 1: pretty impressive. I'm impressed with how motivated you are, how
- 7:20Speaker 1: stubborn you can be about your goals. But I need
- 7:24Speaker 1: you to do this one thing. I need you to
- 7:28Speaker 1: make sure that you stop to recognize the good things
- 7:31Speaker 1: as they happen, because there is so much good happening
- 7:38Speaker 1: right now. If you pause and look at your life,
- 7:41Speaker 1: you might not even realize just how many things you
- 7:43Speaker 1: have right at this very moment that you wish you
- 7:47Speaker 1: had not all that long ago, in the days after
- 7:50Speaker 1: those big victories, the large crowds, the iTunes charts, the
- 7:56Speaker 1: articles that go viral. I want you, instead of thinking
- 8:00Speaker 1: of the moments afterward as downers, to accept that sometimes
- 8:04Speaker 1: there's going to be a little bit of mediocrity. I
- 8:07Speaker 1: know you're working on it. I'm proud of you. I'm
- 8:11Speaker 1: in love with how hard you've worked to shift the
- 8:14Speaker 1: negative dialogue in your head when it comes to your body.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Just as hard as it was to lose those seventy
- 8:21Speaker 1: pounds more than ten years ago. The same goes for
- 8:24Speaker 1: the way that we speak to ourselves. Body acceptance doesn't
- 8:29Speaker 1: just happen overnight. There is nothing wrong with you, because
- 8:33Speaker 1: that is something that you still struggle with. I remember, man,
- 8:37Speaker 1: the days that you wouldn't wear a bathing suit at
- 8:40Speaker 1: the beach. Just last week, you wore one every day
- 8:43Speaker 1: for four days straight. Do you recognize the journey there?
- 8:48Speaker 1: I want you to recognize just how much progress that is.
- 8:53Speaker 1: I want you to know how special it is that
- 8:55Speaker 1: you are finally starting to feel at home in your
- 8:59Speaker 1: own body, a feeling that we all deserve. Let's talk
- 9:04Speaker 1: about that body. Yeah. Your strong legs, the legs that
- 9:09Speaker 1: have carried you across eight different marathon finish lines that
- 9:14Speaker 1: have helped you get from New York to Los Angeles,
- 9:17Speaker 1: to London to Hong Kong in search for stories solidified
- 9:20Speaker 1: in sweat, stories that you can share, stories that help people.
- 9:27Speaker 1: I love you for embracing them, the cellulate and the
- 9:30Speaker 1: quote unquote imperfections and all. I love you for recognizing
- 9:35Speaker 1: just how special it is that you have the opportunity
- 9:38Speaker 1: to chase your dreams just as fast as those legs
- 9:41Speaker 1: can carry you. I know you still feel like that
- 9:45Speaker 1: girl sometimes, that girl who couldn't run more than a
- 9:48Speaker 1: half mile without stopping. But I want you to embrace
- 9:52Speaker 1: that you aren't her anymore. You are capable of so
- 9:57Speaker 1: much more, not just faster times, but bigger goals. You
- 10:03Speaker 1: know that ultra marathon you dream about doing. I want
- 10:06Speaker 1: you to know that you can do it. Just like
- 10:09Speaker 1: anything else in your life, it is time to stop
- 10:12Speaker 1: procrastinating the stuff that scares you. When you get to
- 10:16Speaker 1: that moment, when you get that hurdle and you're stuck
- 10:19Speaker 1: at a crossroads, wondering why you feel as though you can't,
- 10:23Speaker 1: I want you to go back to your why. I
- 10:26Speaker 1: want you to remember that no one can take that
- 10:29Speaker 1: why from you. I want you to remember that you
- 10:32Speaker 1: can make it happen. You know, the other day, when
- 10:36Speaker 1: you were cleaning near the bedroom mirror and you notice
- 10:39Speaker 1: the stretch marks on your hips and your waist, you
- 10:42Speaker 1: realize that you hadn't looked at them in a while.
- 10:45Speaker 1: I love you for thinking about how special they are
- 10:48Speaker 1: instead of letting the negative talk spiral. I love you
- 10:53Speaker 1: for recognizing that they tell a story of where you've
- 10:57Speaker 1: been and also where you're going, a story that so
- 11:01Speaker 1: many women and men everywhere they can truly relate to.
- 11:06Speaker 1: I'm in love with the way that you show up
- 11:08Speaker 1: for others. Your compassion is awesome. It's contagious. I'm proud
- 11:14Speaker 1: of you forgetting to a place where you understand that
- 11:17Speaker 1: just because the people around you are happy, because you're
- 11:20Speaker 1: making other people happy, that doesn't mean that you're gonna
- 11:24Speaker 1: automatically be happy to You deserve to be happy. So
- 11:30Speaker 1: I want you to promise me this. I want you
- 11:32Speaker 1: to always make time to do the things on the
- 11:35Speaker 1: list that you wrote last year, the list that you
- 11:38Speaker 1: wrote in the small coffee shop on the next block
- 11:41Speaker 1: that details the things in life, the simple things that
- 11:43Speaker 1: bring you joy. Running before the rest of the city
- 11:47Speaker 1: wakes up, taking time to decompress at home after a
- 11:50Speaker 1: long day, drinking barolo at barb Primi, planning a trip.
- 11:55Speaker 1: The list is important because your happiness is important. The
- 11:59Speaker 1: list of things they make you feel home again. It
- 12:03Speaker 1: is so easy to be your own biggest critic. It
- 12:07Speaker 1: is so easy to feel overwhelmed. But what I want
- 12:10Speaker 1: for you more than anything during this week of love
- 12:12Speaker 1: is to understand that you are so so worthy. And again,
- 12:17Speaker 1: no one gets to take that from you. No relationship, friend, boss, partner,
- 12:22Speaker 1: ex boyfriend, girlfriend, neighbor, no one. So what if it
- 12:26Speaker 1: didn't work out, So what if you had to part
- 12:29Speaker 1: separate ways. You are stronger than the words or the
- 12:32Speaker 1: actions that have disappointed you in the past. And I'll
- 12:36Speaker 1: let you in on a little secret. If it doesn't happen,
- 12:38Speaker 1: then it's not meant to be. You are exactly who
- 12:42Speaker 1: you are supposed to be. You are exactly where you're
- 12:45Speaker 1: supposed to be. I love you, I am so so
- 12:50Speaker 1: proud of you, and you're doing great. Keep hurdling, another
- 12:55Speaker 1: hurdle conquered. Catch you guys next time.
