Speaker 4: come it up a little bit. As a matter of fact,
• 2:16
Speaker 4: we're going to talk to Jeff Jenkins about that here momentarily,

Speaker 4: four nine three five five zero zero. Let's go to
• 2:41
Speaker 4: the newsroom bringing Jeff Jenkins. Jeff, good morning. What happened
• 2:45
Speaker 4: in the trial on Friday.
• 2:47
Speaker 6: Pretty significant testimony. Again, this is a Genie K White
• 2:50
Speaker 6: Feather and Donald Ray Lance. That's the couple that was
• 2:53
Speaker 6: arrested in the fall of twenty twenty three in connection
• 2:58
Speaker 6: with some child abuse out human trafficking counts were added
• 3:02
Speaker 6: later some other counts where they allegedly took their adoptive
• 3:05
Speaker 6: kids and and treated them like forced labor uh and
• 3:09
Speaker 6: treated them mistreated them.
• 3:11
  Speaker 7: Uh.
• 3:12
Speaker 6: So they've been on trial now for it was a
• 3:14
Speaker 6: whole week last week and the testimony Friday.
• 3:17
  Speaker 8: Uh.
• 3:18
Speaker 6: Two things focused at one. Uh there were there were
• 3:22
Speaker 6: more SHARE's deputies who testified of things they collected, you know,
• 3:26
Speaker 6: during during the investigation. But also the Fusion Center had
• 3:30
Speaker 6: the Western Fusion Center had a couple of folks who
• 3:32
Speaker 6: have analyzed some of that evidence.
• 3:34
  Speaker 8: Uh.
• 3:34
Speaker 6: Some videos were played, uh that have been taken off
• 3:38
Speaker 6: of Genie White Feathers phone. Of one of those had
• 3:41
Speaker 6: Lance Donald Ray Lance screaming at the kids. So that
• 3:44
Speaker 6: was played for the jury. So you get you get
• 3:47
Speaker 6: you know something not only words now, but you can
• 3:50
Speaker 6: hear the jury could hear what some of the allegations are.
• 3:54
Speaker 6: So that could be key testimony for the prosecution looking
• 3:57
Speaker 6: to get a conviction.
• 3:58
  Speaker 9: Uh.
• 3:58
Speaker 6: And also Uh then in the afternoon, it was testimony
• 4:03
Speaker 6: from one of the children, the girl that she's the oldest,
• 4:08
Speaker 6: she's eighteen now. She was sixteen when authorities found her
• 4:12
Speaker 6: in that shed with her brother, and so she testified
• 4:16
Speaker 6: basically about the last several years living with the White Feathers,
• 4:20
Speaker 6: as with White Feather and Lance as her adoptive parents
• 4:24
Speaker 6: over several states. She testified. You can read it at
• 4:28
Speaker 6: wv metronews dot com about what she says were their
• 4:32
Speaker 6: living conditions for the children, how they slept in tents
• 4:35
Speaker 6: and then sleeping bags, and how they had to you know,
• 4:38
Speaker 6: work the crops without any tools, how they were fed
• 4:44
Speaker 6: what many would consider poorly, how they were treated in general,
• 4:50
Speaker 6: weren't allowed to you know, hygiene stuff, weren't allowed to bathe,
• 4:54
Speaker 6: all those different things. She testified, and pretty compelling testimony,
• 4:58
Speaker 6: it seemed. So she took the stand. Did you hear
• 5:01
Speaker 6: that testimony? There was some cross examination, but basically she
• 5:06
Speaker 6: detailed the last several years. And that's where the trial
• 5:10
Speaker 6: ended on Friday, and there could be more children testimony
• 5:13
Speaker 6: as the trial resumes tomorrow. No trial today because of
• 5:16
  Speaker 6: the King holiday.
• 5:17
Speaker 4: All right, it's a tragic story and the gripping and
• 5:21
Speaker 4: I read a lot of the testimony from the child.
• 5:24
Speaker 4: It's just unbelievable. Jeff, I appreciate you being here. We'll
• 5:27
Speaker 4: talk again, probably not tomorrow, but we'll talk again Wednesday.
• 5:30
Speaker 6: Yeah, at some point, just real quick day, the prosecution
• 5:32
Speaker 6: will rest its case and then the defense will begin
• 5:34
Speaker 6: calling witnesses to the stand. So we'll see what happens
• 5:37
Speaker 6: with the defense. If either White Feather or Lance are
• 5:39
Speaker 6: going to choose to take the stand in their own defense.
• 5:42
Speaker 6: We'll see what the defense is. We know what they
• 5:45
Speaker 6: said in the opening statement. We'll see what happens when
• 5:47
Speaker 6: they get the chance to present their case.
• 5:49

• 6:13
Speaker 4: in the show, does Martin Luther King Day. We're gonna
• 6:15
Speaker 4: spend some time talking with some folks about a big
• 6:17
Speaker 4: event going on in Charleston later this morning, and delicate
• 6:21
Speaker 4: Dana Ferrell is going to join us a little bit
• 6:22
Speaker 4: later on. But speaking of delegates, I got one with
• 6:24
Speaker 4: me right now. That is Delegate Andy Shamlin.
• 6:27
Speaker 10: Good morning, sir, Good morning Dave.
• 6:30
  Speaker 4: It's been a while, it's been It's two delegate Monday.
• 6:33
  Speaker 4: That's a new thing I'm starting here.
• 6:37
Speaker 10: Well, I can't think of of a better program line
• 6:40
  Speaker 10: up for you.
• 6:41
Speaker 4: Well, you know, i'd actually had I think I think
• 6:43
Speaker 4: I had you scheduled first, and then a Delegate Farrell.
• 6:46
Speaker 4: Now we're going back and forth. You guys, we're talking
• 6:48
Speaker 4: about two totally different things. But one thing I am
• 6:52
Speaker 4: going to ask both of you as a preview of
• 6:53
Speaker 4: the session, and we'll get to that a little bit
• 6:55
Speaker 4: later on. Of course, today you're a public teacher, you know,
• 6:59
Speaker 4: by Trey public teacher, and today is an off day
• 7:03
Speaker 4: because of the Martin Luther King Holiday, although with the
• 7:05
Speaker 4: temperatures I think you might have already got I think
• 7:07
Speaker 4: you might have had a snow day. Anyway, how is
• 7:10
Speaker 4: it with all of these weather delays and whatnot that
• 7:12
Speaker 4: we've seen in the schools. We'll start there, Delegate.
• 7:17
Speaker 10: Well, it's sort of unpressed. Well I won't say unprecedented,
• 7:21
Speaker 10: but coming out of Christmas wanter break and then basically
• 7:25
Speaker 10: getting an extended break for a week, and in essence
• 7:30
Speaker 10: it really cramped your schedule. And in this year, Kanall
• 7:35
Speaker 10: County Schools chose to have finals after Christmas, so we
• 7:40
Speaker 10: were supposed to come back and have finals week and
• 7:43
Speaker 10: then obviously that got moved back to this upcoming week.
• 7:48
Speaker 10: So it makes it very challenging to adapt, especially when
• 7:52
Speaker 10: you're getting ready to leave your classroom for the legislative session.
• 7:56
Speaker 10: So it just adds another another dynamic to wrapping up
• 8:00
  Speaker 10: first semester.
• 8:01
Speaker 4: Indeeda does. Again. We're talking with Delegate to Amble Andy Shamlin.
• 8:04
Speaker 4: Before I continue, there is another thing I wanted to
• 8:06
Speaker 4: clear up. I know, because I've known you for quite
• 8:10
Speaker 4: a while now. You spent a lot of time in
• 8:12
Speaker 4: your classroom with kids talking about civic engagement, the importance
• 8:16
Speaker 4: of voting, etc. And I bring that up because I
• 8:19
Speaker 4: hear from a lot of people that they feel that
• 8:21
Speaker 4: civics need to be taught in our schools. Well, I'm
• 8:23
Speaker 4: here to tell you because I spent some time in
• 8:26
Speaker 4: your classroom in a former life civic classes are being
• 8:30
Speaker 4: taught and taught very well in most cases in our
• 8:33
Speaker 4: public schools around the said of West Virginia. Talking about
• 8:35
  Speaker 4: that just a.
• 8:35
Speaker 10: Little bit, Yeah, absolutely, Dave. That is also one of
• 8:40
Speaker 10: the greatest misconceptions that I've encountered. Even during my elections,
• 8:44
Speaker 10: when I've been out talking to people and knocking on doors,
• 8:47
Speaker 10: people will say, we need to teach civics in schools,
• 8:50
Speaker 10: and I think we do need to probably emphasize it
• 8:52
Speaker 10: a little bit more than.
• 8:53
  Speaker 11: What we do.
• 8:54
Speaker 10: But it is taught across all West Virginia schools according
• 8:59
Speaker 10: to our content standards. In grade twelve. That is sort
• 9:02
Speaker 10: of a capstone course at the high school level, which
• 9:06
Speaker 10: in my opinion, is where it should be in grade
• 9:09
Speaker 10: twelve because students are getting ready to graduate, they're getting
• 9:12
Speaker 10: ready to start voting, so it's the perfect way to
• 9:15
Speaker 10: tie in all the history courses that they have previously taught.
• 9:21
Speaker 10: Another thing I will add is there are Civics content
• 9:24
Speaker 10: standards for every high school grade. Civics is supposed to
• 9:30
Speaker 10: be integrated into nineteenth, eleventh, and of course twelfth is
• 9:36
Speaker 10: the is the main focus is civics well.
• 9:38
Speaker 4: And that's what they're one of the reasons. I wanted
• 9:40
Speaker 4: to bring that up because I get that a lot
• 9:41
Speaker 4: on the show, especially when I talk to you know,
• 9:44
Speaker 4: maybe other political people too, and for the listeners, they say, well,
• 9:47
Speaker 4: they need to go back to teaching Civics again. It
• 9:49
Speaker 4: is being taught, and now it's a requirement. When I
• 9:52
Speaker 4: was in school, it was only like it was like
• 9:54
Speaker 4: it was like a one semester I think, is what
• 9:57
Speaker 4: it was. And then it was in junior high, which
• 9:59
Speaker 4: shows you how old I am. I didn't go to
• 10:00
Speaker 4: middle school. I went to junior high. But I just
• 10:02
Speaker 4: kind of wanted to get that out there. Let's get
• 10:04
Speaker 4: to the session, Delegan, there's a lot of new faces
• 10:06
Speaker 4: in the legislature. I guess that you're considered a veteran
• 10:10
  Speaker 4: now right.
• 10:13
Speaker 10: Yeah, that's one advantage of the House is once you're
• 10:17
Speaker 10: there for a term, you have more seniority than probably
• 10:20
Speaker 10: a third of the other members at least, and always
• 10:24
Speaker 10: a lot of turnover in the House, a lot of changes.
• 10:28
Speaker 10: Of course, we're seeing significant changes in the executive branch
• 10:31
Speaker 10: as well, so it's going to be a very exciting,
• 10:34
  Speaker 10: fast moving session.
• 10:36
Speaker 4: What are you looking forward to most in this session, Delegate.
• 10:40
Speaker 10: Well, I'm looking forward to continuing my work on the
• 10:43
Speaker 10: Judiciary Committee as well as serving as vice chairman of
• 10:48
Speaker 10: the Courts and Prisons Committee this time around. I've also
• 10:53
Speaker 10: asked and received from Speaker Handshaw and appointment to the
• 10:57
Speaker 10: Education Committee, which is a new chat for me as
• 11:01
Speaker 10: a educator. I did not serve on education during the
• 11:05
Speaker 10: first session, mostly for my own by my own choice,
• 11:10
Speaker 10: so so I'm looking forward to that that element of
• 11:14
Speaker 10: the session as well.
• 11:15
Speaker 4: I want to talk to you just a little bit,
• 11:17
Speaker 4: and again we're talking with Delegate to Andy Shamblin about
• 11:20
Speaker 4: the school discipline issue. I've had Senator Amy Nicole Grady
• 11:23
Speaker 4: on the show in the past, and much like you,
• 11:25
Speaker 4: she's a classroom teacher. Her students are a little younger
• 11:27
Speaker 4: than what years are, but regardless, student discipline is a
• 11:32
Speaker 4: major major issue, discipline, absenteeism, things of that nature. Are
• 11:37
Speaker 4: you Are you in hopes, Delegate that there will there
• 11:41
Speaker 4: can be some kind of meaningful legislation past to address
• 11:44
Speaker 4: some of these issues.
• 11:47
  Speaker 10: Yes, I certainly am, and I think it's a very
• 11:50
Speaker 10: complex issue and in some ways it's an issue that's
• 11:54
Speaker 10: difficult to solve with legislation because schools are reflection of
• 12:01
Speaker 10: the communities in which surround them, and the discipline issues
• 12:08
Speaker 10: vary greatly by jurisdiction and community. But I share Senator
• 12:13
Speaker 10: Grady's commitment to ensure that classrooms have to be peaceful.
• 12:23
Speaker 10: You have to be able to control your classes in
• 12:26
Speaker 10: order to educate. And I fear sometimes that that as
• 12:31
Speaker 10: a society, just generally, big picture, that we have allowed
• 12:36
Speaker 10: the rights of one or two students to outweigh the
• 12:40
Speaker 10: rights of everyone else in the classroom who's there to learn.
• 12:44
Speaker 10: And that's not to say that we discard the student
• 12:49
Speaker 10: who is disruptive or we push them aside and marginalize them,
• 12:54
Speaker 10: but we do have to weigh I think several different equities.
• 12:58
Speaker 10: I mean, you cannot allow one student to disrupt your class.
• 13:03
Speaker 4: Indeed. Uh, well, we wish to the best of luck
• 13:06
Speaker 4: in the upcoming session. As you said, there are some
• 13:09
Speaker 4: some new faces that'll be serving in the House and
• 13:12
Speaker 4: also in the Senate. There's a new leader in the
• 13:14
Speaker 4: Senate here of course in the House, Delegate and Andy Shamlin.
• 13:16
Speaker 4: It's always a pleasure to talk to you. We'll talk
• 13:19
Speaker 4: again probably during the session.
• 13:20
Speaker 10: Man, thanks a lot, Yeah, absolutely, Dave, hope you have
• 13:23
Speaker 10: a great day and thanks for having me on.
• 13:25
Speaker 4: Yeah, absolutely, Delgan, Andy Shamlin. It is nine to twenty,

• 16:52
Speaker 15: We're pressing through to celebrate the life and legacy of

Speaker 15: doctor Martin Luther King Junior.
• 16:58
Speaker 4: And Michelle's great to have you here as well.
• 17:00
Speaker 16: Great to be here.
• 17:01
Speaker 4: All right, So tell me first, either one of you
• 17:03
Speaker 4: and again, I'm you know, I'm kind of an unconventional interviewer.
• 17:06
Speaker 4: I just kind of throw it out there. So tell
• 17:09
Speaker 4: me about the Links, this Links organization, and let's talk
• 17:12
  Speaker 4: about that.
• 17:12
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 17:13
Speaker 7: We are an organization of professional women, mostly women of color,
• 17:19
Speaker 7: from all over the country.
• 17:20
Speaker 16: We even have chapters abroad.
• 17:22
Speaker 7: In London is one of our newer chapters, but we
• 17:26
Speaker 7: are professional women who are committed to service and friendship.
• 17:30
Speaker 7: So our chapter here in Charleston has been around since
• 17:33
Speaker 7: I believe nineteen fifty one, and we are women who
• 17:38
Speaker 7: are trying to make a difference and we work. We
• 17:40
Speaker 7: have a number of program areas that we call facets,
• 17:43
Speaker 7: from health and human services, youth services to youth, the arts,
• 17:50
Speaker 7: as well as engagement, voter engagement and those kinds of things.
• 17:54
Speaker 7: So we are really committed to making a difference in
• 17:58
Speaker 7: our community and we the persevere even through you know,
• 18:03
Speaker 7: nine degree weather or whatever we have here.
• 18:05
Speaker 16: So that's a little bit about who we are.
• 18:08
Speaker 4: Okay, So let's talk about this event that's happening at
• 18:10
Speaker 4: the King Center at Donaldie Street and Charleston this morning.
• 18:13
Speaker 4: Just take it from the top, give us the overall
• 18:15
Speaker 4: view of what's going on.
• 18:15
Speaker 15: All right, what we have today is really a celebration,
• 18:19
Speaker 15: but it's a celebration with a lot of fun and
• 18:22
Speaker 15: a party. But there's also an aspect of education. So
• 18:26
Speaker 15: when the students come in, the young people come in,
• 18:30
Speaker 15: they'll be given a scavenger card and that scavenger card
• 18:33
Speaker 15: will lead them through a number of panels that where
• 18:36
Speaker 15: we have information about the life of doctor King, the
• 18:39
Speaker 15: early civil rights movement, women who've been involved in the movement,
• 18:44
Speaker 15: women and arts, and then young people who are making
• 18:47
Speaker 15: a difference today. We even have a panel that discusses
• 18:51
Speaker 15: what happened here in Charleston during the Triangle District, issues
• 18:56
Speaker 15: with the loss of businesses and housing, and we want
• 19:00
Speaker 15: the children to understand part of the history of how
• 19:04
Speaker 15: we got where we are, so they'll have an opportunity
• 19:07
  Speaker 15: to do that.
• 19:08
Speaker 14: Then we have a youth showcase. We've had a couple.
• 19:11
Speaker 15: Cancelations due to the weather, but we're going to press through.
• 19:15
Speaker 15: We have Bishop Frederick Power, who's a fine artist and sculpture.
• 19:22
Speaker 15: He'll bring some of his sculptures as well as discuss
• 19:25
Speaker 15: some of his work with the children. We have folks
• 19:29
Speaker 15: who are going to be singing who are doing recitations.
• 19:33
Speaker 15: We have dancers who will be there. So that's the
• 19:36
Speaker 15: youth showcase. And then after the Youth Showcase, we'll have
• 19:40
Speaker 15: a special presentation as we honor posthumously individuals from our community.
• 19:48
Speaker 15: Mildred Ruth Holt and her husband Moore's k Holt, who
• 19:54
Speaker 15: have established a fund with the Greater Canal Valley foundation
• 19:57
Speaker 15: to fund educational endeavors will recognize them, and the African
• 20:04
Speaker 15: American Philanthropy be An Action through the Greater knav Foundation
• 20:08
Speaker 15: will make the first grant presentations from the fund that
• 20:12
Speaker 15: they've established, and we believe that's really important because we're
• 20:16
Speaker 15: connecting the generations of the young people through what we've
• 20:22
Speaker 15: seen the Holts do and how important that is to
• 20:25
Speaker 15: the community. Then after all that, a party breaks out.
• 20:29
Speaker 14: Yeah, what he woulds will be there throughout.
• 20:32
Speaker 4: Well whenever Wood he's there, there's a party, no matter,
• 20:35
Speaker 4: no matter what. I want to talk about it again.
• 20:36
Speaker 4: We're talking with Michelle Foster and Kitty Dooley about the
• 20:40
Speaker 4: things going on in celebration of Martin Luther King Day
• 20:43
Speaker 4: and Charleston. I want to talk about the importance of
• 20:45
Speaker 4: getting the youth involved in this. I know that as
• 20:47
Speaker 4: long as I have been doing this show and I've
• 20:49
Speaker 4: had you folks or others on to talk about this,
• 20:51
Speaker 4: the importance of getting young people involved because the Martin
• 20:54
Speaker 4: Luther King Holiday has been a holiday I think since
• 20:56
Speaker 4: the late eighties. I think what happens sometimes, I think
• 21:01
Speaker 4: with holidays of any type, is it just becomes a
• 21:05
Speaker 4: day off. It's a reason for somebody to have a
• 21:08
Speaker 4: mattress sale or something like that. So talk about the
• 21:12
Speaker 4: importance of getting young people involved and knowing that it's
• 21:15
Speaker 4: not just a day off, it's a day of celebration,
• 21:19
Speaker 4: but it's also a day of learning. Talk about that.
• 21:22
Speaker 7: Yes, because we are trying to keep the memory the
• 21:28
Speaker 7: legacy of doctor King alive. What he fought for, we
• 21:33
Speaker 7: are still having to fight for right, so we want
• 21:36
Speaker 7: to make sure that the young people know that, you
• 21:40
Speaker 7: know he from back when he was alive. He preached
• 21:44
Speaker 7: about not being judged by the color of your skin,
• 21:47
Speaker 7: but by the content of your character and so much
• 21:50
Speaker 7: more so, really keeping his memory alive, keeping his teachings alive,
• 21:56
Speaker 7: that is so important for our young people so they
• 22:00
Speaker 7: can continue to fight the good fight that he and
• 22:04
Speaker 7: others did during the civil rights era. Dave, it's interesting
• 22:10
Speaker 7: that you would bring that question up. The genesis of
• 22:15
Speaker 7: this celebration came out of the links discussing how we
• 22:19
Speaker 7: could connect with the youth because a lot of the
• 22:22
Speaker 7: programs that go on, you know, they're focused on speakers
• 22:26
Speaker 7: and music songs that didn't connect with the younger people
• 22:31
Speaker 7: in our community. And so that's really how this program
• 22:35
Speaker 7: started so that we could connect with the youth in
• 22:38
Speaker 7: some way, showcase them and then bring them into this
• 22:43
Speaker 7: history to be a part of it, to be a
• 22:45
Speaker 7: part of the community service. We have young folks who
• 22:48
Speaker 7: are teenagers, Xenos and Kudos who may not want to
• 22:52
Speaker 7: do the bouncy house and face painting, but they help
• 22:56
Speaker 7: the younger people, and they're in service of the fraternities
• 23:01
Speaker 7: and sororities, the Divine nine. They're there and they're in
• 23:05
Speaker 7: service to this greater community. And the beauty of it
• 23:09
Speaker 7: is Doctor King talked about the beloved community, and you
• 23:13
Speaker 7: really see that through this event because it's all people,
• 23:18
Speaker 7: all colors, all organizations coming together so that we can
• 23:23
Speaker 7: be of service and hopefully build up the children that
• 23:26
Speaker 7: would We've got to remember the art piece too, one
• 23:28
Speaker 7: thing that we do. We've been doing now this will
• 23:30
Speaker 7: be our third year of having it. We work with
• 23:33
Speaker 7: artists Ian Body, and we do a collaborative art piece,
• 23:37
Speaker 7: so people who are present. Ian kind of lays it out,
• 23:41
Speaker 7: draws it out, and then we get to color in
• 23:45
Speaker 7: and you know, and he cleans it up because you
• 23:47
  Speaker 7: know it's but it's that's always a wonderful experience of
• 23:53
Speaker 7: community bringing us all together to put our strokes into
• 23:57
Speaker 7: that masterpiece. Really, the last one we did is now
• 24:01
Speaker 7: is at the Kinaal County Public Library, So hopefully we'll
• 24:04
Speaker 7: find another wonderful location for this one.
• 24:07
Speaker 16: But that's also a big piece of what we do.
• 24:10
Speaker 4: And a lot of these young people s Duley may
• 24:13
Speaker 4: not realize the doctor Martin Luther King ties to Charleston
• 24:16
Speaker 4: that that you know, he spent he spent time.
• 24:19
Speaker 7: Here, and he preached here, and he spoke here at
• 24:21
Speaker 7: at the first Baptist Church, it's my understanding. And then later, uh,
• 24:27
Speaker 7: doctor Ron English was pastor there and he was actually
• 24:31
Speaker 7: a mentee of doctor King, prayed at his at his
• 24:35
Speaker 7: funeral homegoing service. As we say, uh but but but
• 24:41
Speaker 7: even though he was here in the valley.
• 24:44
Speaker 15: His work has spread not just through this valley, not
• 24:47
Speaker 15: just students Southern United States, but really across this country
• 24:52
Speaker 15: and across this world. And the things that he fought for,
• 24:56
Speaker 15: as Michelle said, to to really end racism, to bring
• 25:00
Speaker 15: equality and equity into our nation are really so important
• 25:05
Speaker 15: now just because the movements that we see afoot, and
• 25:09
Speaker 15: it's important for people to know and understand that history
• 25:14
Speaker 15: because really it seems like we're getting ready to relive
• 25:17
Speaker 15: some of it, and we've got to be able to
• 25:19
Speaker 15: fight against it and come against it as those who
• 25:23
Speaker 15: fought during the Civil rights era, the modern civil rights era,
• 25:26
Speaker 15: we should say, in the fifties and sixties.
• 25:29

• 25:48
Speaker 4: the folks that can that came together to make all
• 25:51
Speaker 4: this possible, because without all these folks, these kind of
• 25:54
Speaker 4: programs aren't possible, exactly.
• 25:56
Speaker 15: And we really appreciate all of our sponsors in the
• 25:59
Speaker 15: work that they do in support.
• 26:01
Speaker 14: Of what we do, and thank you so much for
• 26:03
  Speaker 14: bringing that up.
• 26:04
Speaker 4: Absolutely, I'm going to give you, ladies, either one of
• 26:06
Speaker 4: you or both of you together, maybe the final thirty
• 26:08
Speaker 4: seconds or thirty forty seconds or a minute, whatever, just
• 26:10
Speaker 4: got to get you out of here and get you
• 26:11
Speaker 4: on the road, you know, to get you over there.
• 26:14
Speaker 4: What do you all want people to know about the
• 26:16
Speaker 4: legacy of doctor Martin Luther King?
• 26:20
Speaker 14: That it's relevant today.
• 26:24
Speaker 7: A lot of times now we see people taking doctor
• 26:27
Speaker 7: King's words and twisting them. Doctor King was for what
• 26:33
Speaker 7: we say this country is about equality for all. Yes,
• 26:37
Speaker 7: he fought for the rights of African Americans in this country,
• 26:41
Speaker 7: but he also was fighting for those who live in poverty.
• 26:46
Speaker 7: As I listened to him yesterday, he was talking about
• 26:50
Speaker 7: those in poverty in Appalachia in the nineteen sixties. And
• 26:54
Speaker 7: so he fought for this country to live up to
• 26:58
  Speaker 7: his creed.
• 26:59
Speaker 15: That all men created equal, that we are endowed by
• 27:03
Speaker 15: our creator with certain in aliena or right. Among those
• 27:07
Speaker 15: are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. And that's
• 27:12
Speaker 15: what he fought for. Uh And we want everyone to
• 27:16
Speaker 15: know that and understand it and continue to work towards
• 27:19
  Speaker 15: those auspicious goals.
• 27:21
Speaker 4: Okay, shall do you want to add anything to that?
• 27:23
Speaker 4: I don't know what you can.

• 32:23
Speaker 4: So all right, well have delicate Dana Ferrell on motion.
• 32:25
Speaker 4: Matter of fact, Ryan, you may want to go ahead
• 32:27
Speaker 4: and just try to call him, because apparently he called
• 32:30
Speaker 4: the wrong number. So Ryan, if you want to go
• 32:33
Speaker 4: ahead and you want to try to call him, that'll
• 32:35
Speaker 4: be fine. I've got I got the boss looking at
• 32:37
Speaker 4: me through the window here. I don't know why he's
• 32:39
Speaker 4: looking at me, but for some reason. Okay, what I
• 32:46
Speaker 4: we got it? We got it, boss. I love a
• 32:49
Speaker 4: work in progress here. As I said, sometimes it's uh,
• 32:53
Speaker 4: and it's what it is. Well, we're working to get
• 32:56
Speaker 4: Delegate Dana Ferrell on the program. Uh. And as I said,
• 32:59
Speaker 4: I told you about to tomorrow's lineup. Are you as
• 33:01
Speaker 4: upset as everybody else is about the about the about
• 33:05
Speaker 4: the disappearance of TikTok and now the return of TikTok
• 33:09
Speaker 4: apparently well you know, apparently it was gone for about
• 33:13
Speaker 4: twelve hours or so. I wouldn't know. I'm going to
• 33:15
Speaker 4: get in that a little bit later on. I do
• 33:17
Speaker 4: understand that we do have Delegate Dan and Ferrell on
• 33:19
Speaker 4: the line with us right now. Delgate, good morning, welcome
• 33:21
  Speaker 4: to the show.
• 33:22
Speaker 11: Well, good morning, how are you.
• 33:24
Speaker 4: I'm doing fine. I thought you were coming in.
• 33:28
  Speaker 11: Well I was.
• 33:32
  Speaker 5: It.
• 33:32
Speaker 4: I got it, I got it, I got we got
• 33:34
Speaker 4: you now. I appreciate you being here. On a serious
• 33:37
Speaker 4: note here, Delegate, we have been We've all been following
• 33:40
Speaker 4: this trial. The horrific details all coming out now in
• 33:44
Speaker 4: the in the White Feather Lance trial. Jeff Jenkins and
• 33:48
Speaker 4: I actually talked about it on the show. There was
• 33:50
Speaker 4: some gripping testimony on on Friday from one of one
• 33:54
Speaker 4: of the one of the kids involved there. There'll be
• 33:55
Speaker 4: there's a break today because of the King Holiday, but
• 33:58
Speaker 4: they will come back tomorrow and at some point soon
• 34:02
Speaker 4: the prosecution will ask and the defense will take the stand.
• 34:05
Speaker 4: And as I said, testimony you suspected to continue, probably
• 34:08
Speaker 4: in that regard from another week or two, maybe a
• 34:10
Speaker 4: little bit longer. You reached out to me, and and
• 34:14
Speaker 4: let's be honest, the full disclosion of you and I
• 34:16
Speaker 4: have been friends for a number of years, but you've
• 34:18
Speaker 4: taken a little bit of an issue with some things.
• 34:22
Speaker 4: As it pertains to this trial and the way that
• 34:27
Speaker 4: it is portrayed in the media. So and as it
• 34:33
Speaker 4: has to do with the community of Cystinville, because it's
• 34:35
Speaker 4: an area that that you represent in the House of Delegates.
• 34:39
Speaker 4: So just kind of take it from there.
• 34:42
  Speaker 11: Yes, thank you.
• 34:43
Speaker 10: And it's not just me.
• 34:45
Speaker 11: It took the issue obviously, several of my constitutions which
• 34:48
Speaker 11: reached outish me and had concern about this and that
• 34:51
Speaker 11: you know obviously, and as Jeff Thinkins has done a
• 34:54
Speaker 11: great job covering this, as some of the other media
• 34:57
Speaker 11: and as you said, the details are horrific that happened.
• 35:01
Speaker 11: And unfortunately these things happened, uh more than we would
• 35:05
Speaker 11: want to for certain.
• 35:07
  Speaker 8: Uh.
• 35:07
Speaker 11: You know, we had the case of ra Moon County
• 35:09
Speaker 11: and just one that I think over here in South
• 35:10
Speaker 11: Hills and Charleston recently. Uh and I'm probably sure as
• 35:13
Speaker 11: we're talking here there are other cases that we don't
• 35:16
Speaker 11: even know about that will come tlight and uh so
• 35:19
Speaker 11: those are those are tough. But the the thing that
• 35:22
Speaker 11: the people here in our community wanted to emphasize that
• 35:26
Speaker 11: although this event happened uh here in our community. Uh,
• 35:30
Speaker 11: these people were not from Sistonsville, and they moved here
• 35:33
Speaker 11: from Washington State. Uh. And and as you see oftentimes
• 35:37
Speaker 11: in these kind of cases, UH, the perpetrators are moving
• 35:41
Speaker 11: around like that in an effort to avoid any kind
• 35:45
Speaker 11: of oversight. Uh, the more that can kind of move around.
• 35:48
Speaker 11: So you know that that's the case that happened here.
• 35:50
Speaker 11: These aren't Systemville people. UH, this is the Systemal community.
• 35:55
Speaker 11: If you look at what it covers is a vast
• 35:58
Speaker 11: area from cross Slands to hel Few from inside Trust's
• 36:01
Speaker 11: city wits the southern Jackson County and incorporates about twenty
• 36:05
Speaker 11: five thousand people. If it was incorporated, it would be
• 36:07
Speaker 11: the sixth largest city in the state.
• 36:09
Speaker 4: I had no idea. Let me jump in here, Delli.
• 36:11
Speaker 4: I had no idea until you told me that that
• 36:13
Speaker 4: that area was considered it. If it were a city,
• 36:17
Speaker 4: it would be the sixth largest state in West Virginia.
• 36:19
Speaker 4: I had no idea until you told me that.
• 36:21
Speaker 11: Yeah, so it's the fast area. So obviously things are
• 36:24
Speaker 11: going to happen. You had bad and ugly in any
• 36:27
Speaker 11: area of that size, as we see across the stat
• 36:30
Speaker 11: any other city in West Virginia. But I think, for instance,
• 36:33
Speaker 11: just last week the high school over here, the boys
• 36:35
Speaker 11: basketball game partnered with the assistant of LQ and Hoober
• 36:39
Speaker 11: played over here and raised money for the young man
• 36:43
Speaker 11: over in South Hills. It has the cant battle going on,
• 36:46
Speaker 11: one that's been in the news. So you know, communities
• 36:49
Speaker 11: and it's not just Systonville. Even look at West Virginia.
• 36:52
Speaker 11: You know you're from Logan and I'm sure you've probably
• 36:55
Speaker 11: seen Logan had a story or two come out of
• 36:57
Speaker 11: the area. I K that's not representative of the people
• 37:00
Speaker 11: with Logan, sure, and it's the same here in West Virginia.
• 37:04
Speaker 11: If you know, look at us on the national stage
• 37:06
Speaker 11: and what the bad rap we get a lot of time,
• 37:10
Speaker 11: so you know, we know better that the people in
• 37:11
Speaker 11: West Virginia are great people. We give their shirt off
• 37:15
Speaker 11: the back to help their neighbor and sometimes we get
• 37:20
Speaker 11: unfairly stereotype in the national media. So that's all I
• 37:25
Speaker 11: wanted to say. The system Mill is a better place.
• 37:27
Speaker 11: And these people are not from Systemville. They were from
• 37:31
Speaker 11: Washington State, mooved here and an effort, i think to
• 37:33
Speaker 11: avoid detection of what.
• 37:35
Speaker 4: They were what they were doing, and we'll see again.
• 37:39
Speaker 4: There's no trial today because of the King Holiday with
• 37:42
Speaker 4: the courthouses being closed, but it will resume tomorrow. Some
• 37:46
Speaker 4: very good points. Again we're talking with the deligate Dana Ferrell,
• 37:49
Speaker 4: the Dave Island showing five any line brought to you
• 37:50

• 37:53

Speaker 4: Pinnacle offers specialized intoor air quality services for residential, commercial,
• 38:01
Speaker 4: and industrial type settings. There's a Pinnacle Court dot net
• 38:04
Speaker 4: because what you don't know can hurt you. Move it along.
• 38:07
Speaker 4: You have a new role I understand as the chairman
• 38:09
Speaker 4: of the House Subcommittee on Local Governments.
• 38:11
Speaker 11: What is that, Delegate, Well, this is a new committee
• 38:16
Speaker 11: and let me say this to the legislature. And I
• 38:19
Speaker 11: heard your interview with Delget Chamblain earlier too, and obviously
• 38:23
Speaker 11: one of the big things you can expect going into
• 38:25
Speaker 11: the session, the House of Delegates has re formatted how
• 38:31
Speaker 11: our committees are going to be made up. This is
• 38:34
Speaker 11: a big chain from the way business has been done
• 38:36
Speaker 11: for the last few decades probably, and we're going to
• 38:40
Speaker 11: have the five major standing committees in Health and Education, Judiciary, Finance,
• 38:48
Speaker 11: and I think of them Energy. So we'll have and
• 38:51
Speaker 11: then underneath of all those sustaining committees who will have
• 38:54
Speaker 11: all these series of subcommittees that are made up of
• 38:57
Speaker 11: smaller groups of delegates and most legislation. I think the
• 39:03
Speaker 11: idea there from leadership is to uh, not work on
• 39:08
Speaker 11: how many bills we can pass out of there just
• 39:10
Speaker 11: so somebody can have their name on a bill, but
• 39:12
Speaker 11: to really focus on this bill, you know, what is
• 39:16
Speaker 11: it trying to fix and solve and does it do that?
• 39:19
Speaker 11: And then the other probably even more important means we
• 39:22
Speaker 11: can have these subcommittees, we'll be having a lot of
• 39:24
Speaker 11: oversight on the bills and legislation that we've already passed.
• 39:29
Speaker 11: As the executive branch able to fulfill these able to
• 39:32
Speaker 11: carry them out or these agencies carrying them out. It's
• 39:36
Speaker 11: not going to go and look I want sorry, you
• 39:39
Speaker 11: let me get back.
• 39:40
Speaker 4: No, we just lost it there for a second, but
• 39:43
Speaker 4: I think you're back with us.
• 39:44
Speaker 11: Go ahead, okay. And you know, and you asked about
• 39:47
Speaker 11: figure subcommittee. I'll be working with uh. And I know
• 39:50
Speaker 11: what aren't goal is you mean you look at West
• 39:51
Speaker 11: virgin when we just mentioned there earlier that this state
• 39:55
Speaker 11: is made up of small towns and small cities, as
• 39:58
Speaker 11: we don't have a Columbus, whereas Charlotte or Nashville kind
• 40:02
Speaker 11: of area that we have all these quaint small towns communities,
• 40:06
Speaker 11: and I think the idea of this committee is to
• 40:09
Speaker 11: look at how can we help those communities be the
• 40:13
Speaker 11: best that they can be, you know, for a great
• 40:15
Speaker 11: place to live and work and do business. And so
• 40:18
Speaker 11: that's what we'll be looking at some areas, and we
• 40:20
Speaker 11: look at West Virginia's meet up of different regions and say,
• 40:23
Speaker 11: what works in the eastern Panhandle may not work along
• 40:26
Speaker 11: the Ohio River in the southern areas and things like that.
• 40:29
Speaker 11: So we're going to look at, you know, what works
• 40:31
Speaker 11: best for each region, how can we best help those
• 40:35
Speaker 11: communities be the best that they can be.
• 40:38
Speaker 4: Tell good Dana Farrells here before we let you go.
• 40:41
Speaker 4: And you've been on the show in the past talking
• 40:43
Speaker 4: about this proposal for a possible r V water park resort.
• 40:47
Speaker 4: Haven't heard anything about that in a while. Is that
• 40:50
Speaker 4: still a thing? What's going on by Well, yeah.
• 40:52
Speaker 11: I think obviously that's something that still wanted to burner
• 40:57
Speaker 11: that I've been working with developers from Texas and they
• 41:00
Speaker 11: have another one who afforded this now interested because certainly
• 41:04
Speaker 11: with the new National Park and with our location within
• 41:07
Speaker 11: the eastern seaboard mid Atlantic that West Virginia is a
• 41:11
Speaker 11: prime location. And this is a huge industry now, I
• 41:14
Speaker 11: mean it's grilling by leaps and bounds, fifty five billion
• 41:18
Speaker 11: dollar annual revenue in this so you want to see
• 41:22
Speaker 11: I think more and more interests coming to that in
• 41:24
Speaker 11: And we struggle with previous developers looking here because of
• 41:29
Speaker 11: access to on a road situation, and we really struggle
• 41:32
Speaker 11: working with previous administration to get that across the line.
• 41:37
Speaker 11: But you know, I'm confident with the new administration coming
• 41:39
Speaker 11: in that we can start to work with some things.
• 41:41
Speaker 11: And I think I know there's still interest in the
• 41:44
Speaker 11: developers to be here. They want to be here. We
• 41:46
Speaker 11: just got to get conditions right to make it happen.
• 41:49
Speaker 4: All right, now, Logo, it's always a pleasure to have
• 41:51
Speaker 4: you on the show. I appreciate you being here, and
• 41:54
Speaker 4: of course session starts February twelve, we'll probably have you

• 47:32
Speaker 4: four nine three five five zero zero eight. I briefly
• 47:34
Speaker 4: mentioned the whole TikTok thing. The long national nightmare is over.
• 47:38
Speaker 4: The app went dark late Saturday night, was back up
• 47:41
Speaker 4: sometime early yesterday afternoon. I say sometime because I do
• 47:44
Speaker 4: not tick, nor do I talk, so I only know
• 47:47
Speaker 4: that it was gone because I started getting alerts on
• 47:50
Speaker 4: my phone about it. It's not from TikTok, but from
• 47:53
Speaker 4: social media and news sources and so on and so forth.
• 47:57
Speaker 4: Now Trump, in some people's eyes, is now the savior.
• 48:04
Speaker 4: Is now the savior of of TikTok. I guess I'm
• 48:09
Speaker 4: not sure speaking of the president or well, I guess
• 48:12
Speaker 4: he was officially sworn in TJ. Was he officially sworn
• 48:14
Speaker 4: in last night? The president twelve and one? That's what
• 48:18
Speaker 4: they normally to go back and check, I'm not sure
• 48:20
Speaker 4: that's what they that's what they normally do. But the
• 48:21
Speaker 4: inauguration is going on today. Did you happen to see
• 48:26
Speaker 4: the clip of President Trump on stage with the Village people?
• 48:29
Speaker 4: I did see that. He apparently has a real fondness
• 48:34
Speaker 4: for the village people, and particularly the song y m
• 48:37
Speaker 4: c A. Does anybody want to explain to him the
• 48:43
Speaker 4: connotation of what that song is actually about. It's it's
• 48:51
Speaker 4: just kind of bizarre, to be honest with you. Speaking
• 48:54
Speaker 4: of bizarre, outgoing President Biden is issuing preemptive pardons right
• 49:02
Speaker 4: and left, including for doctor Anthony Fauci. Interesting considering he
• 49:06
Speaker 4: hasn't done anything wrong, at least criminally that we know of.
• 49:13
Speaker 4: Really weird flex in my opinion. There was a statement
• 49:15
Speaker 4: I read from doctor Fauci basically thanking and I'm very
• 49:20
Speaker 4: much paraphrase and you're basically thanking President Biden, but saying
• 49:23
Speaker 4: I did nothing wrong, but I'll keep the pardon in
• 49:26
  Speaker 4: my back pocket. I guess I don't know. It's just
• 49:30
Speaker 4: and now the President Trump, well over two hundred executive
• 49:33
Speaker 4: orders are on the way, including mass deportations, so on
• 49:38
Speaker 4: and so forth. Meknock got a couple of texts here, Okay,
• 49:46
Speaker 4: look how sick and lost America is. By the way,
• 49:49
Speaker 4: one hundred and seventy million fools were acting with a
• 49:51
Speaker 4: TikTok shutdown. They'd rather watch their totally stupid stuff to
• 49:54
Speaker 4: be concerned by the Chinese spy threat that this app
• 49:57
Speaker 4: is America will fall in one day if invaded fools
• 50:01
Speaker 4: on display big time. Some even called nine to one
• 50:04
Speaker 4: one about it. I did read that article DJ people
• 50:06
Speaker 4: had called nine to one one about their TikTok. Now,
• 50:08
Speaker 4: now I will say this about TikTok, as I said,
• 50:10
Speaker 4: I'm not on it. If that's what people want to do,
• 50:14
Speaker 4: find more power to them. But I will say this,
• 50:17
Speaker 4: there's a whole lot of money being made on TikTok.
• 50:19
Speaker 4: This would this app whether you like it or you don't,
• 50:22
Speaker 4: this app going away is a multi billion dollar business
• 50:26
Speaker 4: in America, and there's a lot of people that may
• 50:31
Speaker 4: and they can certainly shift that to other places, I guess.
• 50:36
Speaker 4: But for people to say, well, it's just a video,
• 50:38
Speaker 4: and it's just, you know, whatever's on TikTok, it's to
• 50:41
Speaker 4: some people, it's a lot more than that. It's a livelihood.
• 50:44
Speaker 4: It's a lot now and again possibly they can move
• 50:46
Speaker 4: that into other forms. I don't know, you're shaking your
• 50:49
Speaker 4: head over here, meadows. Get rid of it.
• 50:52
Speaker 21: It shouldn't have been brought back, period. And you know,
• 50:55
Speaker 21: you talk about sacrifice. Talk to the greatest generation, the
• 50:59
Speaker 21: w W twogen about what they gave up in order
• 51:02
Speaker 21: to protect freedom in this country. And then go talk
• 51:04
Speaker 21: to a TikToker who's you know, inconvenienced. Understand that some
• 51:07
Speaker 21: people make a living off of it. There are other platforms.
• 51:10
Speaker 21: That's fine. But at the end of the day, we
• 51:14
Speaker 21: have a president in President Trump, who in his first
• 51:16
Speaker 21: term said TikTok was a problem, yeah, noted it, that
• 51:19
Speaker 21: it was bad for national security.
• 51:21
Speaker 4: Now he's all for it. Okay, fine, But we know
• 51:23
Speaker 4: why he's all for it because it got him relected.
• 51:25
Speaker 4: Because it was a big part of why he got reelected.
• 51:27
Speaker 4: Not the major part, but it was a big part.
• 51:29
Speaker 21: But go ahead, and then we have a duly passed
• 51:31
Speaker 21: law by the Congress saying it has to be divested
• 51:34
Speaker 21: it's a national security issue. The Supreme Court upheld that,
• 51:37
Speaker 21: and now our president is talking about an executive order
• 51:41
Speaker 21: to overturn a duly passed law.
• 51:43
Speaker 4: You can't do that. You cannot do that. Get ready
• 51:46
Speaker 4: for a whole lot of you can't do that with
• 51:48
Speaker 4: this administration. Well, you know, at the end of the day,
• 51:51
Speaker 4: he's not going to do a lot of them.
• 51:52
Speaker 21: You've heard me real on China. I mean, this thing,
• 51:55
  Speaker 21: it's a spy tool, it's a propaganda tool. It can
• 51:57
Speaker 21: be used as a trojan horse if we ever do
• 51:59
Speaker 21: get into a conflict with China. And oh by the way, Dave,
• 52:01
Speaker 21: you can't go to China and get on Facebook or
• 52:03
Speaker 21: x right. I mean, if this were nineteen eighty five
• 52:06
Speaker 21: and this was going on in nineteen eighty three, picked
• 52:08
Speaker 21: the date and this was Russia, Reagan would have killed
• 52:11
Speaker 21: that and everybody would have been applauding about it.
• 52:12
  Speaker 4: I don't understand, nor do I, But there's a lot
• 52:16
Speaker 4: of things in this world I don't understand. But I
• 52:18
Speaker 4: do understand that TJ. Meadows and Dave Wilson are coming
