- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30So today we are talking about the challenge with self help.
- 0:34Now you might be thinking to yourself, why is someone who's
- 0:36involved in self help talking about a challenge with self
- 0:39help? Because I think it's really
- 0:41necessary to be honest with people about things.
- 0:43And there is a huge challenge in the self help industry where
- 0:46people put it upon you that once you know something, you should
- 0:49just be able to, you know, crack it out and do it immediately.
- 0:53And that is definitely not the case.
- 0:56I can't stress that enough. Just because you know something
- 0:59doesn't mean you'll do it, doesn't mean you'll understand
- 1:01it, doesn't mean you'll be able to execute on it, and certainly
- 1:04doesn't mean you'll be able to stick with it.
- 1:06It's hard helping yourself necessary, but it's hard work
- 1:11and it takes consistent effort on our part.
- 1:13And where we typically get hung up is that we are not very good
- 1:17at being consistent. We'll say we're going to be
- 1:19consistent, but we all know we rarely just stick with that
- 1:23feeling of saying yes, yes, I'm doing it every day and I mean it
- 1:26and I'm going to go with it and make execute on it.
- 1:29So it's, it can be very frustrating, especially when
- 1:33you're dealing with yourself to have to argue with yourself.
- 1:37That's why we have these conversations, sensations, and
- 1:39we'll say, oh, I'm beside myself, I don't know why I do
- 1:41those things. And it's like we're talking
- 1:44about another person, except it's us.
- 1:46And that's the essential idea about the problem with self
- 1:51help. It's also on a deeper level.
- 1:54A lot of the people that are teaching self help right now are
- 1:56not honest about the situation with themselves.
- 2:00So they come across like they have perfect worlds and perfect
- 2:03lives and everything is going tremendous for them.
- 2:06And the reality is it's not their life is not good behind
- 2:10the scenes. They've got all kinds of
- 2:11problems and essentially they're calling everybody else out for
- 2:14where they are when behind the scenes they're just as messed
- 2:17up. And you know, that's why I try
- 2:20to be as honest as I can on here with all of you about what goes
- 2:23on in my life because I think it's important to know we suffer
- 2:26the trials and tribulations just like the rest of people do.
- 2:29I have moments where I don't want to do the things I'm
- 2:33supposed to be doing. I have moments where, you know
- 2:35what? I don't feel like going grocery
- 2:37shopping. I don't feel like cleaning.
- 2:40I don't feel like writing or doing things.
- 2:42I feel like sitting and doing nothing.
- 2:44And is that part of the plan? No.
- 2:47But guess what? That's how humans show up
- 2:50sometimes. And when you start to recognize
- 2:53that we don't always all get along, you know, there are days
- 2:57when I just want to wring my family's neck.
- 3:00There are days when I just am like, OK, I'm over it all.
- 3:06It's human, it's OK. And accepting that as part of
- 3:11the condition that we live in helps us navigate it.
- 3:14Honestly, if you if you really get into the fact that you are
- 3:18accepting yourself where you are, it's a lot easier to help
- 3:22yourself from that point. It's much easier to help
- 3:24yourself when you just recognize where you truly are instead of,
- 3:28you know, belittling yourself for where you are.
- 3:31So often we just destroy ourselves for the fact that we
- 3:35think we have to be somewhere we're not and essentially beat
- 3:39ourselves up the entire time. And boy, what a mistake that is.
- 3:42Because you've heard me say it before, but you know when you
- 3:46subscribe to, the beatings will continue until morale improves.
- 3:49It rarely is a good thing for anyone involved, and it usually
- 3:53works out for the greater good of the person who's delivering
- 3:58the beatings, but it doesn't when it's in your head and you
- 4:02are doing the beatings, you're constantly taking yourself out.
- 4:05So the challenge I'm going to put to you guys today is to face
- 4:08the fact that you are in this position where you have to help
- 4:11yourself, but you're in the position where you have to love
- 4:14yourself enough to be kind to yourself at the same time.
- 4:17And you have to be gracious with yourself and about where you
- 4:20are. And you have to recognize that
- 4:22even though you need help and you are reaching out and you're
- 4:26trying to do everything for yourself, there's still a part
- 4:28of you that is essentially resistant to it because it's
- 4:33hard and it's OK. It's OK to be resistant to it.
- 4:36It's OK to feel like you have things that are off.
- 4:40It's OK to feel like you want to make things different.
- 4:43What we have to look at is to say, OK, this is where I am,
- 4:47this is my plan. I forgive myself for where I
- 4:50fell off and I'm going to do better.
- 4:52I'm going to shift myself and I'm going to change.
- 4:54And when you start thinking things that way, it always gets
- 4:57better because you give yourself grace.
- 4:59You give yourself the opportunity to essentially have
- 5:04that sense of love for yourself. You treat yourself as kind as
- 5:08you would someone else. And that's what's so important.
- 5:11So I hope you guys have a very blessed day.
- 5:13Be kind to yourself and remember self development isn't just
- 5:16about always being on track. It's about all kinds of other
- 5:21things too. So remember, be kind.
- 5:25All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I'll
- 5:27see you tomorrow. Bye.
