- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean here it is a Thursday, it is the 5th of
- 0:17September and hello, hello. Good to have your company as we
- 0:22are going to do what we do every day, which is read a chapter of
- 0:26God's Word together. And this chapter has a title
- 0:28which is Treasure in Fragile Clay Jars.
- 0:33That is such a great title. You know, I was listening to
- 0:37some letters being read this week, letters from a gentleman
- 0:41written to a friend of his, and he described life as like
- 0:44everything being made of egg shells.
- 0:48Wow, isn't that beautiful? Everything being made of egg
- 0:50shells. Everything is so fragile around
- 0:53us. And when something from the
- 0:55outside looks really solid, often, often that's the facade
- 0:59and there's something really fragile to it.
- 1:02But there is one thing, friends, that is not fragile, one thing
- 1:04that is unshakeable and unbreakable.
- 1:06And that is the goodness and glory of our God, which is why
- 1:10we are here, you and me, why we are going to hear more from our
- 1:14God through his Word today. So let us hear Paul share God's
- 1:19word to his friends in Corinth and his friends wherever you are
- 1:24and wherever I am, because we're his friends to you.
- 1:27Ready. Let's read together Second
- 1:29Corinthians chapter 4. Therefore, since God in His
- 1:43mercy has given us this new way, we never give up.
- 1:49We reject all shameful deeds and underhanded methods.
- 1:53We don't try to trick anyone or distort the Word of God.
- 1:58We tell the truth before God. And all who are honest know
- 2:02this. If the good news we preach is
- 2:05hidden behind a veil, it is hidden only from people who are
- 2:08perishing. Satan, who is the God of this
- 2:12world, has blinded the minds of those who don't believe.
- 2:16They are unable to see the glorious light of the good news.
- 2:21They don't understand this message about the glory of
- 2:23Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.
- 2:28You see, we don't go around preaching about ourselves.
- 2:32We preach that Jesus Christ is Lord and we ourselves are your
- 2:38servants for Jesus sake, for God who said let there be light in
- 2:44the darkness has made this light shine in our hearts so we could
- 2:49know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus
- 2:53Christ. We now have this light shining
- 2:57in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars
- 3:02containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our
- 3:07great power is from God, not from ourselves.
- 3:11We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not
- 3:15crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven
- 3:18to despair. We are haunted down, but never
- 3:23abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are
- 3:27not destroyed through suffering. Our bodies continue to share in
- 3:32the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be seen
- 3:37in our bodies. Yes, we live under constant
- 3:42danger of death because we serve Jesus so that the life of Jesus
- 3:46will be evident in our dying bodies.
- 3:50So we live in the face of death, but this has resulted in eternal
- 3:55life for you. But we continue to preach
- 4:00because we have the same kind of faith as Psalmist had when he
- 4:04said I believe in God. So I spoke, we know that God who
- 4:11raised the Lord Jesus will also raise us with Jesus and present
- 4:16us to himself together with you. All of this is for your benefit,
- 4:22and as God's grace reaches more and more people, there will be
- 4:26great Thanksgiving and God will receive more and more glory.
- 4:32That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our
- 4:37spirits are being renewed every day.
- 4:40For our present troubles are small and won't last very long.
- 4:45Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and
- 4:50will last forever. So we don't look at the troubles
- 4:54we can see now. Rather we fix our gaze on things
- 4:59that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will
- 5:02soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.
- 5:18Our Lord Jesus, you and your Kingdom do last forever.
- 5:23And though the troubles that we face every day seem awfully
- 5:27troublesome and awfully big, sometimes they just fade away.
- 5:33In fact, better than just fading away.
- 5:36Paul writes that these troubles that we face as we live a life
- 5:40for you produce a glory that vastly outweighs these troubles.
- 5:46And then as we come into your presence forever, that will last
- 5:52there. Oh, Jesus, we thank you.
- 5:55We thank You that you are so much bigger than anything we are
- 5:58going to face today. So we pray for your eternal
- 6:01perspective and your very present love right now.
- 6:06And we pray all of this in your name, Jesus, Amen.
