- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Welcome to everyone to critics.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: Tells us why critics got it wrong.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: I'm your host, Yanis Cove, formerly pretentious film school student.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: Ten years later sees the error of his ways.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: My guest today is comedian and writer Haley OT.
- 0:23SPEAKER_03: Thank you.
- 0:24SPEAKER_03: Thank you so much for having me on.
- 0:26SPEAKER_03: I am so excited to talk about these movies.
- 0:29SPEAKER_03: And I'm excited to hear a little bit about whatever else you've talked about, the other movies on this podcast.
- 0:33SPEAKER_03: I can't wait to hear it's such an interesting theme.
- 0:36SPEAKER_03: I love the topic.
- 0:37SPEAKER_03: Like, that's so great to argue bad movies.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: Or like peop things that movies that people think are bad at least.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: Or like critics think are bad.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: Because there's something bad.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: How are you doing today though?
- 0:50SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 0:51SPEAKER_03: I am doing very well today.
- 0:53SPEAKER_03: I am actually like being a productive human being, which is not the norm for me every day.
- 0:57SPEAKER_03: So like I got up, I did my laundry, I like cleaned the kitchen.
- 1:02SPEAKER_03: It was very abnormal.
- 1:03SPEAKER_03: So I'm feeling great.
- 1:04SPEAKER_03: I think I'm not sure.
- 1:05SPEAKER_03: It's early for you as well, isn't it?
- 1:06SPEAKER_03: It's only 10.
- 1:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's 10 a.m.
- 1:10SPEAKER_03: So I'm like, I know.
- 1:11SPEAKER_03: I'm an early riser.
- 1:12SPEAKER_03: Like, that's just how I've always been.
- 1:14SPEAKER_03: So it's like not a bad thing for me.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: I'm such a late sleeper.
- 1:19SPEAKER_03: Are you?
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:22SPEAKER_03: God.
- 1:23SPEAKER_03: I mean, that boat's well that you're ahead of the rest of the world for that then.
- 1:26SPEAKER_03: So like you're never really missing out.
- 1:28SPEAKER_03: You're just in a normal time zone.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: I mean, yeah, I'm not missing out on American stuff.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: I'm missing out on like the UK stuff.
- 1:34SPEAKER_03: Yes, you are.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: I miss out on UK mornings.
- 1:37SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 1:38SPEAKER_03: How are UK mornings?
- 1:39SPEAKER_03: I have a few friends there.
- 1:40SPEAKER_03: I can't wait to visit.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: I mean, we're in lockdown right now.
- 1:43SPEAKER_03: So I heard you guys got sent back recently.
- 1:46SPEAKER_03: Because you guys were open for a minute, right?
- 1:48SPEAKER_03: Like you had like our outdoor stuff.
- 1:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: We're open all summer.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: Like all summer and autumn, I guess.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: Like we only went into lockdown last week, I think.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: But yeah, it's not it's already not fun.
- 2:00SPEAKER_03: No.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: You want to go back?
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: You want to go back in?
- 2:03SPEAKER_03: No, I mean, like, we are in.
- 2:05SPEAKER_03: Like the problem with the American lockdown is that it's been like one foot in the door and one foot out the door the entire time.
- 2:11SPEAKER_03: They're like, you're locked down, but not really.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: Like you're still going to be like, I mean, it kind of depends on who wants to follow it, really, though.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: That's the thing as well.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: Because like some people will follow it, some people are just like, oh, I'm not listening.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: And they get around it because they're like, oh, I need to go to work, or I need to go to I need to do something else.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: I need to go visit these these six people that I'm allowed to visit or whatever.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: Like, ugh.
- 2:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 2:35SPEAKER_03: We have stuff like that here in pods, but like I also, like a ton of my friends like have been going out and stuff and going to bars.
- 2:42SPEAKER_03: And and the thing is, like, even if even if that is allowed, even if they say you can go and do this, I'm good.
- 2:48SPEAKER_03: I don't need to risk it.
- 2:49SPEAKER_03: I can have a drink in my home.
- 2:51SPEAKER_03: Like, I'll just see the people I see and then go home.
- 2:53SPEAKER_03: You guys want to go to the bars?
- 2:55SPEAKER_03: I won't see anything.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: That seems to be the like every every American I've spoken to actually has said the same thing as well.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: Like, I don't know, so I don't know who it is that's doing it.
- 3:05SPEAKER_03: That's so interesting.
- 3:06SPEAKER_03: I guess we all just have like irresponsible friends.
- 3:08SPEAKER_03: I guess you've talked with the most responsible parent of every friend group.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: Oh, are you the parent of every are you the parent of your friend group then?
- 3:17SPEAKER_03: Oh, absolutely.
- 3:19SPEAKER_03: I'm like weed daddy, drug mommy, just like regular mom.
- 3:23SPEAKER_03: Like I take care.
- 3:25SPEAKER_03: But it's but it's good.
- 3:26SPEAKER_03: I'm starting to allow myself to also be a person who's taken care of, which is like very difficult.
- 3:31SPEAKER_03: So I'm like, okay, you guys can do things for me sometimes.
- 3:34SPEAKER_03: I don't need to roll all your weed and cook all your food.
- 3:39SPEAKER_01: It's fantastic.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: That is the one thing that I I've constantly seen from your like social media is the weed rolling thing.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: And it's just always like it's like I don't know what you're doing with the like I don't understand it fully.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: So it's like it looks like pasta that you've rolled.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: It is.
- 3:58SPEAKER_01: It is pasta.
- 3:59SPEAKER_01: It's pasta, yeah.
- 4:00SPEAKER_01: It's a fusili noodle.
- 4:02unknown: Yeah.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: Makes so much sense in it.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, okay.
- 4:04SPEAKER_03: See, this is what I love about it, is because it truly like blows people's minds.
- 4:08SPEAKER_03: And this was just something I stumbled upon.
- 4:10SPEAKER_03: I was lucky enough to like my last job before quarantine.
- 4:13SPEAKER_03: I worked at a cannabis corporate brand.
- 4:15SPEAKER_03: So like we had five brands underneath us, and like it was very like you could smoke during the day, whatnot.
- 4:20SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 4:21SPEAKER_03: And so my coworker showed me how to roll these pasta joints.
- 4:24SPEAKER_03: And like, I'd always be like, Why are you carrying around a bag of noodles?
- 4:28SPEAKER_03: And now I carry around a bag of noodles and like rolling papers.
- 4:31SPEAKER_03: And people were like, What are you doing?
- 4:32SPEAKER_03: And I'm like, it's in case I need to roll weed.
- 4:36SPEAKER_03: It looks so strange, but it works so well.
- 4:39SPEAKER_03: I don't know why more people don't do it.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: It looks like it it looks really gimmicky, but also at the same time, it's like, oh, that looks so interesting, and it like really stands out.
- 4:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's actually very functional, which is like stupid to say about a literal joint.
- 4:54SPEAKER_03: Like, I don't know, but I yeah, it's really interesting.
- 4:57SPEAKER_03: I do I love rolling weed.
- 4:58SPEAKER_03: Weed for me is like rolling it is my meditation.
- 5:00SPEAKER_03: Like joints, blonde, snoodle joints, like I don't care.
- 5:04SPEAKER_03: I like doing it all.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, so that kind of like lead almost leads into this movie.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: It's because it's this movie is super troopers, which is a it's considered a stoner classic at this point, I feel like.
- 5:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's what I was thinking too.
- 5:22SPEAKER_03: Like it kind of is.
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: Is that why you picked it?
- 5:26SPEAKER_03: A little bit.
- 5:26SPEAKER_03: Um, also just because like I really something in me, like in the way I grew up watching so much comedy, like I have such a deep love for all the really gimmicky and cheesy movies from like the early 2000s.
- 5:40SPEAKER_03: Like, I'm up on Austin Powers, and that's still to this day, like I know it doesn't track in 2020, but I still love it with my whole heart.
- 5:49SPEAKER_03: Like, it's so good.
- 5:50SPEAKER_03: And so I was like, this one's a really good one.
- 5:52SPEAKER_03: I love love GA um Chandra Sakar.
- 5:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and he was like, he was in Brooklyn 99 too, and he did this weird bit about being in a multi-level marketing scheme, and like that was his role.
- 6:03SPEAKER_03: And I was just like, he can do it all, he has all these really weird, interesting comedic roles, and I like so jazzed to see it.
- 6:11SPEAKER_03: But yes, I did definitely choose it a little bit because of its stonerness.
- 6:15SPEAKER_03: It's got that to it.
- 6:16SPEAKER_03: It's all about weed, the whole film.
- 6:18SPEAKER_03: It really is so funny because like even the one point where what is it?
- 6:22SPEAKER_03: I think it's the governor, and she was like, Oh, oh, they got it's a drug bus.
- 6:26SPEAKER_03: Great, what did they get?
- 6:28SPEAKER_03: Heroin?
- 6:28SPEAKER_03: And they're like, No, no, no, weed.
- 6:30SPEAKER_03: And she's like, Why am I here?
- 6:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and like that's the whole like she just doesn't care.
- 6:35SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: Like But what what is your history with it then?
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: Like, when was the first time you saw it?
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: Can you remember?
- 6:43SPEAKER_03: Uh super troopers, I wanna say like four or five years ago when I was in college, when I was like really starting to get back into weed smoking.
- 6:52SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 6:53SPEAKER_03: And I was like starting to do it again, and I was watching all those cheesy films.
- 6:56SPEAKER_03: Um, I want to say like an ex-boyfriend forced me to watch that.
- 7:00SPEAKER_03: I think it was like the same one who also made me watch anime a lot.
- 7:03SPEAKER_03: And it's like if I watched anime on my own, I'd probably like it.
- 7:05SPEAKER_03: But being forced to watch it, I think it made me dislike it.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, being forced to watch anime doesn't sound fun.
- 7:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah, like you have to you have to let someone come to you in those situations.
- 7:17SPEAKER_03: Um, so yeah, I saw it a while ago in college, and I was very much like, this is my vibe, like this is who I am.
- 7:23SPEAKER_03: Like in college, I had a Mac Miller poster, a this is the end poster, and a pineapple express poster, and an entourage poster.
- 7:31SPEAKER_03: So like I was more a frat boy.
- 7:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's very frat, isn't it?
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: Especially on tourage.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: I haven't.
- 7:40SPEAKER_03: I don't like how much I love that show.
- 7:42SPEAKER_03: And it does not track at all.
- 7:44SPEAKER_03: Could not pass a single backdell task, could not stand up in 2020.
- 7:48SPEAKER_03: And I'll still watch it.
- 7:49SPEAKER_03: I don't know what's wrong with me.
- 7:51SPEAKER_00: I watched the whole thing, and now I look back and I was like, why did I watch the whole thing?
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: It's not good, it's not a good show.
- 7:58SPEAKER_01: I've watched it at least five times.
- 8:01SPEAKER_01: It's so terrible.
- 8:02SPEAKER_01: I know it's bad.
- 8:03SPEAKER_01: I'm sitting there and I'm like, this is bad.
- 8:05SPEAKER_01: This is so stupid.
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: I don't think I've seen it since it came out.
- 8:09SPEAKER_03: That's fair.
- 8:10SPEAKER_03: That's fair.
- 8:10SPEAKER_03: I think more people should be like that.
- 8:12SPEAKER_03: Less people should watch it five times.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: But at the same time, I have seen eight seasons of it, so yeah.
- 8:18SPEAKER_03: So you did sit all the way through.
- 8:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and the movie.
- 8:22SPEAKER_03: The movie was terrible.
- 8:24SPEAKER_03: Oh, the movie is so bad.
- 8:26SPEAKER_03: So bad.
- 8:27SPEAKER_03: And um, who did they throw in there?
- 8:28SPEAKER_03: Hayley Jalazma.
- 8:30SPEAKER_03: They threw everyone in there.
- 8:33SPEAKER_03: It was, yeah, it was trash.
- 8:35SPEAKER_03: Um I don't re-watch that ever.
- 8:38SPEAKER_03: Honestly, I might start Entrage today when we log off because I'm currently um I'm in uh my like 18th probably rewatch of New Girl because New Girl's the show I just like toss on in the background because yeah, it's a good one.
- 8:52SPEAKER_03: Also, I think and from a comedic writing perspective, like it's really good to re-watch and rewatch so much so much that like I really understand what they're doing, why they're doing it, and like why scenes work certain ways.
- 9:03SPEAKER_03: So I'm like, that's how I rationalize the fact that I've watched it at least 15 times.
- 9:07SPEAKER_03: So I'm like, it's studying.
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: I watched, yeah, I go through like that, Parks and Rick, The Office, just like and uh community.
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: Those are the like the four I can tend to go like go back and watch.
- 9:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah, the cult classics, those are good ones.
- 9:24SPEAKER_03: Oh god, I love community.
- 9:25SPEAKER_03: Donald Glover, I just like I have so much love for him as a musical artist, but I really would love to see him, and and like I know he's in Atlanta too, but like he kills at comedy.
- 9:35SPEAKER_03: He has one of the best stand-up specials I've ever seen, and he just did that one off.
- 9:39SPEAKER_03: And he like never gave back to give us yes, he never gave us any more treats after that.
- 9:44SPEAKER_03: Like he was never like and like then he stopped doing his like rap that was also like kind of stand-up y rap.
- 9:50SPEAKER_03: Like his early rap mixtapes were very like um eloquent and laced with like a lot of verbiage that made them like funny and interesting, and some like show us, show us your comedy, we want to see it.
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: He just seems sad now, and it's just yeah, and I don't I don't blame him.
- 10:06SPEAKER_03: I mean where the world has gone versus where he started.
- 10:08SPEAKER_03: It's like yeah, the world has gotten much worse.
- 10:12SPEAKER_03: I don't blame him for making his happy shit.
- 10:14SPEAKER_03: That's gonna be me.
- 10:15SPEAKER_03: That's me when I'm soft tweeting on Maine all the time.
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: Oh, but actually speaking of Oh, you're right.
- 10:25SPEAKER_03: No, no, you go ahead.
- 10:26SPEAKER_03: I'm pulling up my notes.
- 10:26SPEAKER_03: I forgot that I had these.
- 10:27SPEAKER_00: Oh, you made notes.
- 10:28SPEAKER_03: I did make notes because I was literally like, I love this movie and I don't want to forget any of like these really funny, stupid parts.
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: I was gonna say, do you know who directed a lot of these like comedic TV shows is Jay Chandra Seek Chandra Seekar.
- 10:43SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 10:44SPEAKER_01: I didn't know that.
- 10:45SPEAKER_01: I didn't know as well.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: He did a bunch of New Girl stuff.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: He did a bunch of um I think he did some of community and like he does he does a lot of like TV directing now.
- 10:56SPEAKER_03: I didn't know that.
- 10:57SPEAKER_03: That's so cool.
- 10:58SPEAKER_03: Good for him.
- 10:58SPEAKER_03: He was like wow.
- 11:01SPEAKER_03: I love that.
- 11:02SPEAKER_03: Maybe that's why I like subconsciously love him so much too, is because like subliminal subliminally probably been singus name.
- 11:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah, exactly.
- 11:09SPEAKER_03: I'm like, I love him.
- 11:11SPEAKER_03: They're like literally subliminally feeding me J turn's bigger.
- 11:14SPEAKER_03: I'm like, okay.
- 11:16SPEAKER_00: You'll notice it on your rewatch.
- 11:18SPEAKER_00: You'll see his name pop up a lot.
- 11:20SPEAKER_03: Um that was all I'm gonna see.
- 11:23SPEAKER_00: But he um yeah, so he also directed this, which um I didn't notice that.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:29SPEAKER_00: I didn't I wasn't sure if he he did, and I paid attention this time, like just to make sure.
- 11:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:33SPEAKER_00: Um but yeah, it's it's super troopers.
- 11:36SPEAKER_00: It's uh it's from the the uh what they called, the happy lizard team.
- 11:42SPEAKER_00: Broken Lizard team, sorry.
- 11:45SPEAKER_03: Oh broken lizard, yes, I didn't see that.
- 11:46SPEAKER_03: I don't um oh, so that's is Broken Lizard um Jay's team?
- 11:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:52SPEAKER_03: Oh okay, because when it said starring Broken Lizard, I was like, what?
- 11:57SPEAKER_03: And then I was so confused.
- 11:59SPEAKER_00: Who is Broken Lizard?
- 12:01SPEAKER_03: Yes, I'm glad we got that out of the way right up.
- 12:03SPEAKER_00: No, it's all of the it's like the main cast, it's like the core cast.
- 12:08SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 12:08SPEAKER_03: Oh, so he kind of had his see.
- 12:10SPEAKER_03: Oh, that's my dream is to have like a J Trans Tandris Tandra Sagar, like Chris Farley, Adam Sandler, Will Farrell, like non-straight white male type of team, where it's like you and your friends are all making comedy together and making like movies.
- 12:23SPEAKER_00: Like that's the dream.
- 12:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: So they started they started with like another movie before this.
- 12:29SPEAKER_00: It was um Puddle Puddle something.
- 12:32SPEAKER_00: I can't remember the name of it, but um, it was like a very, very low budget movie.
- 12:36SPEAKER_00: Um, and then from that they got this.
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: Um, and then they kind of like just like branched out and like made a load of these kind of comedies.
- 12:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 12:43SPEAKER_00: Um, I don't know.
- 12:44SPEAKER_00: Have you seen any of the rest of them?
- 12:46SPEAKER_03: I'm not sure.
- 12:47SPEAKER_03: I've seen I've seen the second Super Troopers, that's for sure.
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: I still haven't seen that.
- 12:51SPEAKER_00: How is that?
- 12:51SPEAKER_03: Really?
- 12:52SPEAKER_03: That one I want to say is free right now on something.
- 12:54SPEAKER_03: Because when I was looking it up, I think Super Troopers 2 was either on Netflix or Hulu.
- 12:59SPEAKER_03: Um, I haven't seen it recently, but I did see it after I watched it.
- 13:02SPEAKER_03: It was good, but you know, I mean, yeah, it just it's a it's a what do you call the second film?
- 13:06SPEAKER_03: Why can't I think of it?
- 13:08SPEAKER_03: Sequel, there we go.
- 13:10SPEAKER_03: This is the dangers of weed, everyone.
- 13:12SPEAKER_03: Please smoke responsibly.
- 13:14SPEAKER_03: Um a sequel to a cult classic.
- 13:16SPEAKER_03: So it's like it's good in the way that it has a lot of those like same themes and same like comedy bits, but it's you know, it's they're never as good.
- 13:23SPEAKER_03: But it's like worth a watch.
- 13:24SPEAKER_03: I think worth a watch.
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: The only thing that put me off was it came so long after, and I was like, is it gonna hold up?
- 13:30SPEAKER_00: Is it gonna like match the original?
- 13:33SPEAKER_00: And what and also like what I was gonna say is like every every movie they've made within the Broken Lizard uh universe after this is c it doesn't, it's not as good as this one.
- 13:43SPEAKER_00: So I'm kind of I was also kind of like, uh I don't know if I want to see it.
- 13:48SPEAKER_00: Because they made they made um Club Dread, I don't know if you've seen that, and then they made um, which was like a horror comedy, then they made um uh Beerfest.
- 14:00SPEAKER_03: Oh, I think I did see Beer Fest.
- 14:02SPEAKER_00: That was really bad.
- 14:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it was really bad.
- 14:06SPEAKER_00: And then they made some other one afterward, which was which went like straight to DVD, and I'm like, oh no.
- 14:11SPEAKER_03: Oh god, yeah.
- 14:13SPEAKER_03: See, that's the thing, is like that's the offshoot of what can happen with those kind of comedy teams.
- 14:18SPEAKER_03: It's like you do still need those outside perspectives, like you need other people helping you build those stories to make sure it's not just something that like you and your buddies find hilarious.
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, well, that's the thing, it's like if unless you're getting your Netflix deal like Adam Sandler does with his like tick comedy team, then then you're probably gonna yeah, then it might end up with this DVD, straight to DVD style.
- 14:40SPEAKER_03: Oh my god.
- 14:41SPEAKER_03: Also, I like love the opening of this, and I love how they tied it in with the ending too.
- 14:46SPEAKER_03: Like the ending, the final party scene, and like in the same guy, I can't remember his name, it was definitely on um the one who eats the bag of shrooms and the weeds.
- 14:55SPEAKER_00: Jeffrey, um, Jeffrey, uh oh, what is his name?
- 14:58SPEAKER_03: I feel like he had a really short last name, like Trend or Brend or something.
- 15:02SPEAKER_00: Oh, I feel like he's a really long knife.
- 15:04SPEAKER_03: Trend?
- 15:05SPEAKER_03: Brenner?
- 15:06SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 15:07SPEAKER_03: But he was super, super talented.
- 15:09SPEAKER_03: I like I love him in that.
- 15:11SPEAKER_03: I love all three of like the main guys who start out and like the whole stony thing, and like when they shoot, like they make the fake pistol with their hand and shoot the cop car with their hand, and then like they come all the way back.
- 15:24SPEAKER_00: Oh, it's so great.
- 15:26SPEAKER_03: It's so good.
- 15:27SPEAKER_03: It's just so iconic, like that opening.
- 15:30SPEAKER_03: And they're so close to Canada.
- 15:32SPEAKER_03: They're so close.
- 15:32SPEAKER_03: That's like the whole bit.
- 15:33SPEAKER_03: Oh my god.
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: So the it it's um let me explain the premise to anyone who hasn't seen it.
- 15:38SPEAKER_00: So it's just it's a uh it's a movie about uh a bunch of uh state troopers.
- 15:44SPEAKER_00: That's what is that what they're called?
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they're like state troopers, and they're they're yeah, they patrol the highway in Vermont, like just like right outside of Canada.
- 15:52SPEAKER_00: Um and they just like mess around all day because there's nothing going on.
- 15:57SPEAKER_00: There's like nothing happening at all.
- 15:59SPEAKER_00: So they just like mess around with everything, and then they and they have a they have a feud with the like the local cops who are actually like doing things and they wanna like they want to be the ones to do things and like the cops are always taking over.
- 16:11SPEAKER_00: And then um and then they find out that they're gonna uh one of the three departments is gonna get shut down because they are not uh because they're not make they're not take making enough like arrests or something.
- 16:25SPEAKER_03: I don't entirely Yeah, that's that's what happens in America.
- 16:28SPEAKER_03: If you're not making enough arrests, you don't get to keep your job.
- 16:32SPEAKER_03: I have a lot of thoughts on this, but please continue before I launch into my lectures.
- 16:37SPEAKER_00: Well, I mean that's the basic premise of it.
- 16:39SPEAKER_00: So they they they like they decide like they're gonna try and like keep do some kind of like normal work to uh to basically do something.
- 16:51SPEAKER_00: They discover like this big bat big load of weed that they're gonna like uh use as their like the the way to get around it, uh because they'll make a big arrest around that.
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: Uh that's basically the premise of it, and then we can go we can talk about the whole movie as it goes along.
- 17:06SPEAKER_00: But like I want to hear your thoughts.
- 17:08SPEAKER_00: Like you you said you wanted to launch it.
- 17:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 17:11SPEAKER_03: The premise is like them, like can these cops stop fucking around long enough to actually keep their jobs?
- 17:17SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 17:18SPEAKER_03: And like I it's it's truly because it's it's it's hilarious.
- 17:21SPEAKER_03: They're pulling pranks, they have that one where it's like who can say meow the most during like an arrest or the scene I remember most out of anything.
- 17:29SPEAKER_03: That one.
- 17:30SPEAKER_00: Um that and the literacola.
- 17:33SPEAKER_03: The liter literacola! What's a literaca?
- 17:36SPEAKER_03: That's so good.
- 17:37SPEAKER_03: Farva.
- 17:38SPEAKER_03: Farva's terrible.
- 17:39SPEAKER_03: Oh my god.
- 17:40SPEAKER_00: Oh, I hate him so much, but I love it.
- 17:43SPEAKER_03: I wanted to say this at the top because like this is something I'm like also realizing now is how much America produces copaganda, which is something like I haven't realized until recent years.
- 17:53SPEAKER_03: And like this is really like another, and I'm sure this isn't what the comedy people intended when they were making it.
- 17:59SPEAKER_03: They this wasn't like an idea on people's brains, they weren't really considering copaganda back then.
- 18:04SPEAKER_03: But like looking at it now, I'm like, this is a way to humanize cops and make them look like okay people.
- 18:09SPEAKER_03: Like, even if they're fuckwits, they're still doing their job and protecting and serving.
- 18:13SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 18:14SPEAKER_03: And so I just like that's my disclaimer is like this is copaganda.
- 18:18SPEAKER_03: That doesn't mean it's not good, but you need to like know going in, like, this is not what cops are like, and like except in the parts where they're doing their jobs wrong.
- 18:27SPEAKER_03: And then in that way, they're very right.
- 18:30SPEAKER_00: That yeah, I'm glad you said it because it was the one thing I I realized going into it that this rewatch, because I hadn't seen it in probably a decade, this movie.
- 18:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and so like re-watching it now is like, oh, this I really notice it that the propaganda going into it now.
- 18:45SPEAKER_00: And and it's it's a little bit troubling, but at the same time, like I see what I s I know it's not them specifically doing it, like you said, it's it's just the American way of like what they've been they've been fed themselves as well.
- 18:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah, absolutely.
- 18:59SPEAKER_03: It's like what we've been like, especially I'm sure, and I think it was like the late 80s, early 90s, and through like the 2000s when like there was a shit ton of cop shows, like there were so many.
- 19:11SPEAKER_03: So they were like, sure, this is just like a topic that we as Americans discuss like through our media, and they didn't realize that like what these kind of like they do have long-lasting impact.
- 19:20SPEAKER_03: Like, I haven't been able to watch rewatch Brooklyn 99 since I realized like how much copaganda it is.
- 19:27SPEAKER_03: And I'm like, Yeah, it's so tough.
- 19:30SPEAKER_03: And I'm like, that was one of my favorite shows.
- 19:32SPEAKER_03: The jokes in that are so good.
- 19:33SPEAKER_03: Andy Sandberg is like one of my favorites.
- 19:36SPEAKER_00: By the way, another show he directed.
- 19:39SPEAKER_03: Serious?
- 19:40SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, that makes sense because he's in it, because he has that bit.
- 19:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 19:43SPEAKER_03: Oh my god, good on him.
- 19:45SPEAKER_03: He's got like a finger in every goddamn pie, and I gotta say, mazzle top to him.
- 19:50SPEAKER_00: But also, like they um I know that they are working on it this year to try and address that on the show.
- 19:57SPEAKER_00: I've heard that they're gonna do that.
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: So I'm I'm interested to see what they do with it.
- 20:00SPEAKER_03: But yeah, and I mean, like, like like we just said, like, I don't even think like when Andy Sandberg and like I'm sure it was like I think it was a lot from the Lonely Island team, and then like a lot from Mike Scher for the creation of this.
- 20:12SPEAKER_03: Um, and I don't like again, I don't think that was their intention to humanize cops or to make them look more reasonable.
- 20:18SPEAKER_03: I think they just wanted a like funky premise for a comedy show.
- 20:22SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 20:22SPEAKER_03: And so it's like, and that way I get it, and they do show some stuff about bad cops, but not nearly as much as actually happens.
- 20:30SPEAKER_03: And so that's it's oh god, it's just so tough to come to terms with that stuff.
- 20:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah, like we also I just like read one of my notes and I was laughing so hard because I wrote the friend that eats all the drugs, that's me.
- 20:42SPEAKER_03: And I was so high watching this, I was like, it's me, I'm eating all the shrimps and Halloween because the cops are there.
- 20:49SPEAKER_03: Like truly, I hope she doesn't listen to this.
- 20:52SPEAKER_03: But um, my mom told me a story of one time when she was in uh Mexico when she was like my age, she was 24, 25, and she was there with my godmom.
- 21:01SPEAKER_03: And they were um driving and smoking a joint in Mexico, and they got pulled over, and so my mom ate the whole joint, and so that like nothing, so that they couldn't get in trouble when they got pulled over by the Mexican police.
- 21:15SPEAKER_03: And I was like, that's me.
- 21:16SPEAKER_03: I was like, I'm the child of that.
- 21:18SPEAKER_03: If we got pulled over, I would definitely eat all the drugs.
- 21:23SPEAKER_03: Sad but true.
- 21:26SPEAKER_00: I mean, not to incriminate yourself.
- 21:28SPEAKER_00: Have you ever done that?
- 21:29SPEAKER_03: I actually have wait, done like eating or like gotten pulled over.
- 21:34SPEAKER_03: Um, I don't think I'd ever have.
- 21:36SPEAKER_03: I've never like needed to.
- 21:38SPEAKER_03: I mean, I'm lucky that I I grew up in Chicago, which is like as far as it goes, a pretty liberal city.
- 21:45SPEAKER_03: It's not the most liberal, and there's a ton of stuff wrong with it that I hope to help be a part of correcting over the next like 20 years, but it it is.
- 21:53SPEAKER_03: It's it's pretty like people do drugs there, people drink a lot, like and and LA's the same, and those are my two.
- 22:00SPEAKER_03: Main basis.
- 22:00SPEAKER_03: Like the only place I would have done that would have been in Wisconsin, where pot is still very, very illegal.
- 22:06SPEAKER_03: And I definitely did like definitely had to hide it sometimes.
- 22:11SPEAKER_03: No, I've never I've never eaten weed.
- 22:13SPEAKER_03: I'm very lucky that way.
- 22:17SPEAKER_03: I think I might have done that thing.
- 22:19SPEAKER_03: What?
- 22:19SPEAKER_03: Were you um it's I think it's called Wu Tanging when you when you're smoking the end of a blunt and you just inhale it and swallow it.
- 22:27SPEAKER_00: Um I didn't know that was a thing.
- 22:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it might not be called Wu Tang, so don't like I just feel like it's something like that.
- 22:34SPEAKER_03: Like it's some kind of rap name to it.
- 22:36SPEAKER_03: Um it might be that, but yeah, that's um that was very popular when I was in college.
- 22:41SPEAKER_00: That seems really disgusting.
- 22:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, it's absolutely disgusting, but I was trashed.
- 22:51SPEAKER_03: No, like I was like the American college movies.
- 22:54SPEAKER_03: Like I was I am no longer that person, but it was that was that in Wisconsin?
- 22:59SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 23:00SPEAKER_03: Which was just oh but yeah, I went to school in Wisconsin and it's uh it's actually like a very um drug not friendly state for the fact that like everyone there is basically an alcoholic.
- 23:12SPEAKER_03: Like it's kind of crazy how anti-drug they are, but like um Wisconsin is not a like a not a super great, like I have so much love for it because I went like and spent my college years there and like met so many people and they can be so kind and like very Midwestern in that way, but they're like cruelly anti-drug in Wisconsin, and especially when it comes to their homeless population and stuff, too.
- 23:35SPEAKER_03: Like, they don't care.
- 23:36SPEAKER_00: That's terrible.
- 23:37SPEAKER_00: Didn't they turn blue this year?
- 23:38SPEAKER_03: They did, they did turn blue, which makes me like really hopeful.
- 23:41SPEAKER_03: But they're still like weed isn't even decriminalized in their state, like it's which is nuts because it's it's decriminalized in like I want to say like more than half of the states now, and decriminalized just means that like you won't go to jail for it.
- 23:56SPEAKER_03: Like you could still get a ticket if you have a certain amount on you and stuff, but like you won't get like processed in the carcel system.
- 24:03SPEAKER_03: So it's like weird.
- 24:04SPEAKER_02: It's like why would we it's a plant, bro?
- 24:07SPEAKER_00: It's so crazy.
- 24:08SPEAKER_00: It's so stupid.
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: I think I don't know what it I can't remember what it is even classified here as.
- 24:14SPEAKER_00: I think it's like class B, they call it, uh, which is like one the middle of the three.
- 24:19SPEAKER_00: So you can get you can still get in trouble for it here.
- 24:22SPEAKER_00: But like yeah, wow.
- 24:25SPEAKER_00: I don't know, like they've they're so strict with anything here.
- 24:28SPEAKER_00: So strict, except for except for alcohol.
- 24:30SPEAKER_00: Alcohol, like you can go like walk around the streets drinking it, do whatever you want.
- 24:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you guys have open container laws, don't you?
- 24:37SPEAKER_03: You can just like oh, that's so nice.
- 24:40SPEAKER_00: I mean, it is until you're out on like a a Friday night just walking around and you see like loads of drunk people everywhere just falling about.
- 24:49SPEAKER_03: God, I can't wait to visit.
- 24:50SPEAKER_03: I have two friends there, and they're both really big potheads.
- 24:53SPEAKER_03: So I'm like secure in knowing that when I get there I will have weeds still.
- 24:57SPEAKER_00: Where are they in London?
- 24:59SPEAKER_03: Um one's in East London and one's in West London.
- 25:02SPEAKER_03: I don't know the name of either.
- 25:03SPEAKER_03: They're very British towns.
- 25:04SPEAKER_03: I'm so sorry, but like that's all I got for you.
- 25:11SPEAKER_03: Okay, I mean, like, if you ever want me to send you something, you're gonna need to send me an address because I have no clue where you live.
- 25:17SPEAKER_03: It's so big, and I've I've actually never like gotten lucky enough to visit.
- 25:20SPEAKER_03: I had one, like, I had a 24-hour layover in London once where I went to um Leicester Square.
- 25:27SPEAKER_00: Leicester Square.
- 25:30SPEAKER_00: The Times Square of London.
- 25:32SPEAKER_03: Yes, and like me and my friend who were traveling, like we went and had like lunch there and stuff and like hung out, but it wasn't it wasn't enough.
- 25:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's like the tour the most Times Square budget.
- 25:44SPEAKER_00: It is, it's like the most touristy place you could go, but it's like it's hilarious.
- 25:49SPEAKER_03: Oh my god, we were walking around with our big bags too, because we were like traveling help from Europe.
- 25:53SPEAKER_00: Oh wow.
- 25:54SPEAKER_03: Oh my god.
- 25:55SPEAKER_00: No, it's great.
- 25:56SPEAKER_00: It's obviously it makes sense like that you'd go there.
- 25:59SPEAKER_00: You're like, oh, where would we go?
- 26:00SPEAKER_00: Let's go to the place that everyone's talking about.
- 26:02SPEAKER_00: That's where everyone's talking about.
- 26:03SPEAKER_00: So yeah.
- 26:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the tube's nice.
- 26:10SPEAKER_03: It's better than public transport here.
- 26:12SPEAKER_00: At least Oh, LA, LA public transport is so bad.
- 26:16SPEAKER_00: So bad.
- 26:17SPEAKER_03: And I grew up in Chicago too, where they had like really amazing public transportation.
- 26:22SPEAKER_03: Like I could get anywhere by a bus or a train or like a car.
- 26:26SPEAKER_03: It did not matter.
- 26:27SPEAKER_03: And now I'm like, I drive everywhere.
- 26:30SPEAKER_00: I spent two days in Chicago.
- 26:32SPEAKER_00: Uh we got on the uh what's it the metro there, isn't it?
- 26:36SPEAKER_00: What's it called there?
- 26:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's called the L.
- 26:38SPEAKER_00: The L.
- 26:38SPEAKER_00: So we we got on it.
- 26:40SPEAKER_00: We got on it, and we went the wrong way, and we ended up uh in like this very dangerous area.
- 26:48SPEAKER_00: We got out.
- 26:48SPEAKER_03: Did you take the red line?
- 26:50SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 26:51SPEAKER_00: It was like 10 years ago.
- 26:52SPEAKER_03: We took the red line south, like yeah.
- 26:54SPEAKER_00: And and we were just like, this is not where we should be, and we got straight back on.
- 26:58SPEAKER_00: I had like my expensive camera with me and everything.
- 27:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 27:02SPEAKER_03: That's the nice thing about like the public transportation there, though.
- 27:05SPEAKER_03: Like, if you do take it the wrong way, you can literally just get back on the one going the other way.
- 27:08SPEAKER_03: Like it's super quick and speedy because I've I've done that plenary of times.
- 27:13SPEAKER_03: I've like fallen asleep on trains and like ended up in the wrong neighborhood, and I'm like, can someone come get me?
- 27:20SPEAKER_03: I'm very scared and very small.
- 27:22SPEAKER_03: Please protect me.
- 27:25SPEAKER_03: Oh my god.
- 27:26SPEAKER_03: It was so funny though.
- 27:28SPEAKER_03: God, I missed Europe.
- 27:29SPEAKER_03: I can't wait to travel after this.
- 27:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, come to London, uh let me know if you come to London.
- 27:34SPEAKER_03: I will.
- 27:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 27:35SPEAKER_03: Oh, I will.
- 27:35SPEAKER_03: My girlfriend, um, well, so one of my girlfriends, um, she's like a beautiful, beautiful fucking genius.
- 27:42SPEAKER_03: She um she grew up here, but she has dual citizenship here and in Spain because um that's where her dad's from.
- 27:49SPEAKER_03: Like her mom met her dad studying abroad, and then they had a kid.
- 27:52SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 27:53SPEAKER_03: Um, and so she has been living in Europe for the last like four years since we graduated college, and she went to get her biochemistry master's in Sweden and France, and then she's been living in London with her boyfriend.
- 28:08SPEAKER_03: And now next year she's going to Zurich, Switzerland to do her PhD.
- 28:13SPEAKER_03: And I'm like, how did I how are we even friends?
- 28:17SPEAKER_03: Like, I mean, she's so cool.
- 28:18SPEAKER_03: She smokes pot, she's a genius, she can hang with the best of them, she can drink like a motherfucker, like she's a man twice her size, and she's still, and then she'll wake up in the morning and do chemistry and try to fix viruses and stuff.
- 28:30SPEAKER_03: And I'm like, what the duality of women is so powerful.
- 28:36SPEAKER_03: I love it.
- 28:37SPEAKER_00: Just just the shout out.
- 28:39SPEAKER_03: Love you, Meg.
- 28:41SPEAKER_00: Shout out to Meg.
- 28:43SPEAKER_00: Yes, you'll have to send her this now.
- 28:46SPEAKER_03: Oh, I'm absolutely.
- 28:47SPEAKER_03: I mean, she listens to everything I do.
- 28:49SPEAKER_03: She's like, I'm I'm very lucky that I have like really great supportive friends who like, even if they won't tune on to when I'm doing something or can't be there in person, then like they'll watch afterwards.
- 28:58SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's amazing.
- 28:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's nice, they're good people.
- 29:03SPEAKER_00: Um let's talk about the movie itself.
- 29:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, okay.
- 29:09SPEAKER_00: Um, so it's super troopers, it's got 35% on Rotten Tomatoes.
- 29:15SPEAKER_00: Um but the audience score, 90%.
- 29:21SPEAKER_03: Seriously, it's amazing.
- 29:23SPEAKER_03: Like, how do you even deny the quality of the movie when the audience has said it's so good?
- 29:29SPEAKER_00: It's so different.
- 29:30SPEAKER_00: And 35% is bad, and then like 90% is so good on there.
- 29:35SPEAKER_00: You do not see 90% that often.
- 29:37SPEAKER_03: No, especially from an audience score.
- 29:39SPEAKER_03: Like most audiences, I feel like usually like the movies less than the critics do.
- 29:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 29:43SPEAKER_03: Unless it's like a really good, like, you know, universally loved movie.
- 29:46SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 29:47SPEAKER_03: But I like it blows my mind.
- 29:48SPEAKER_03: And I just I think when when did Rotten Tomatoes come out?
- 29:52SPEAKER_03: How long has that been around?
- 29:53SPEAKER_03: Like, I have no idea.
- 29:54SPEAKER_00: I have it must have been uh god, I have no idea actually.
- 30:00SPEAKER_03: So because I think like it probably could also be part of the time.
- 30:04SPEAKER_03: Like for the time, they were probably like, this movie's cheap, they're going for the cheap laugh.
- 30:08SPEAKER_03: Like, this is like kind of playing into a ton of different stereotypes of stuff.
- 30:12SPEAKER_03: And so I could see how it would get that, but yeah.
- 30:17SPEAKER_00: But this is also a time of like a lot of stoner comedies, I feel like, came out around this time.
- 30:21SPEAKER_03: And they're probably Harold and Kumar.
- 30:23SPEAKER_00: Harold and Kumar is my all-time favorite, though.
- 30:26SPEAKER_03: So good.
- 30:27SPEAKER_03: It's so good.
- 30:27SPEAKER_03: I just watched that for the first time in about like a month or two ago.
- 30:30SPEAKER_00: Oh really?
- 30:31SPEAKER_00: So good, loved it.
- 30:33SPEAKER_00: How have you not seen that before?
- 30:35SPEAKER_00: Before a month ago.
- 30:37SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 30:38SPEAKER_03: I I feel like I missed a lot of cult classics.
- 30:40SPEAKER_03: I also finally, about like three months ago, I saw Clue, the 1985 one.
- 30:44SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 30:45SPEAKER_03: So good.
- 30:46SPEAKER_03: Also love um, what's his name?
- 30:49SPEAKER_03: He's so the guy who um plays the butler, and he's also in um Charlie's Angels, like the real the British guy with like the Tim Curry.
- 30:59SPEAKER_03: Tim Curry, I love Tim Curry and in Rocky Horror Pictures.
- 31:02SPEAKER_03: Oh god, he's amazing.
- 31:03SPEAKER_00: Oh, Tim Curry is amazing, just in everything he did.
- 31:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so I've missed out on a lot of cult classics.
- 31:09SPEAKER_03: Like I said, I only even saw super troopers like four or five years ago.
- 31:13SPEAKER_00: But I I mean more not not so much the cult classics, I just meant because it's like a stone of comedy as well.
- 31:17SPEAKER_00: Like that's the thing.
- 31:19SPEAKER_00: I just think comedy is I assume like every stone just watches every stoner comedy.
- 31:25SPEAKER_03: I feel like I've seen a lot of them, but I would say that like TV is my love and like movies are my side hoe.
- 31:32SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 31:32SPEAKER_03: So like I uh I've seen like all the stoner TV shows, like even the really, really, really bad ones.
- 31:38SPEAKER_03: I'm looking at you, Netflix, and disjointed.
- 31:41SPEAKER_00: But I was gonna say, what are Steve what are stoner TV shows?
- 31:44SPEAKER_00: I don't I couldn't even tell you any except for disjointed TV.
- 31:47SPEAKER_03: There's like oh no, there's like weeds, there's um there's so many shows about like smoking and selling pots and your stuff.
- 31:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you're right.
- 31:53SPEAKER_03: Like I consider Broad City to be a so a stoner show and a lot of abstract that's true.
- 31:59SPEAKER_03: And like I I also like those kind of things, and I think that's where the American public is at right now, is that they need weed to be a part of the show, but not the center topic.
- 32:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they need to like get eased into it, is what I'm like seeing from like audiences' perspectives.
- 32:15SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 32:16SPEAKER_03: Which makes sense.
- 32:17SPEAKER_03: A lot of people still live in like small towns where they've never touched weed, and they think weed is literally something that could like end up killing you or drive you to reefer madness.
- 32:26SPEAKER_00: My favorite of like example of like watching all that is actually it just reminded me of that 70s show where it's Wisconsin as well.
- 32:35SPEAKER_00: Speaking of which, it but it's like they they humanize it in that show to a to an extent, and they even the even the parents start smoking it at one point.
- 32:44SPEAKER_03: Yes, it's so good.
- 32:46SPEAKER_03: I love that 70s show.
- 32:48SPEAKER_03: That was the one where when I was younger, I was like, oh, it's okay, like you can smoke pods or whatever.
- 32:53SPEAKER_03: So maybe not a good example in that way, but I still it's so good.
- 32:57SPEAKER_03: See, it's like that.
- 32:58SPEAKER_03: It's the shows where weed is a big thing in it, but you don't think of it as the basis of the show.
- 33:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's not the base of the show, but they it's all yeah, it's a part, it's a part of it, but it's not the base, it's not the whole theme of the show.
- 33:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so Stoner shows are ones that are more like laid into it, like ones where the people smoke weed all the time.
- 33:16SPEAKER_03: Like, even um, I love insecure because it normalizes like women smoking weed.
- 33:21SPEAKER_03: Like they're always like, the girls are always getting high, and I'm like, yes, ladies, like go ahead.
- 33:25SPEAKER_03: Like normalize it.
- 33:26SPEAKER_03: A lot of women smoke weed, a lot of adult women smoke weed, a lot of adult men do.
- 33:30SPEAKER_03: Like, why are we pretending like this isn't a part of our life?
- 33:33SPEAKER_03: I know even succession in succession.
- 33:35SPEAKER_03: They smoke weed in one of the scenes, like in a few of them.
- 33:38SPEAKER_03: Like, you know what I mean?
- 33:39SPEAKER_03: Like it's getting more normalized.
- 33:41SPEAKER_03: I mean, they do a lot, they do a lot more in succession.
- 33:44SPEAKER_03: They do.
- 33:45SPEAKER_03: God, I just still like it when I realized that it was Brian Cox as the chief of the super troopers.
- 33:55SPEAKER_03: I like my mind exploded, and I had to do everything not to tweet about it or text you about it in that moment and like hold in my excitement.
- 34:02SPEAKER_03: I was so excited.
- 34:04SPEAKER_03: It was so good.
- 34:06SPEAKER_03: I was like, I love him, and I just like really wanted him more than anything to tell them to fuck off.
- 34:10SPEAKER_00: I know I was waiting for it.
- 34:12SPEAKER_00: I was waiting, I was just waiting for that moment.
- 34:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I really has the same accent in it.
- 34:18SPEAKER_03: He does it.
- 34:19SPEAKER_00: He does the same accent.
- 34:21SPEAKER_03: It was so good.
- 34:22SPEAKER_03: And like, isn't the other, isn't the guy who plays the chief of police also like a pretty well-known like actor?
- 34:28SPEAKER_00: He is.
- 34:28SPEAKER_00: I couldn't place him, but he looked really familiar.
- 34:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, right?
- 34:31SPEAKER_03: Like he looks like I feel like he's been in a ton of TV.
- 34:34SPEAKER_00: I feel like he's just around.
- 34:35SPEAKER_00: He's one of those people that looks just looks familiar and just in things.
- 34:38SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 34:38SPEAKER_03: He does.
- 34:39SPEAKER_00: I might be able to tell you now.
- 34:41SPEAKER_00: Uh oh, and the cameos.
- 34:46SPEAKER_00: Wait, what?
- 34:46SPEAKER_00: Jim Gaffigan's in this?
- 34:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's what I wrote.
- 34:49SPEAKER_03: I just realized I was reading my note that says so many good cameos was that Jim Gaffigan.
- 34:53SPEAKER_03: It was in um one of the pullover scenes, I think.
- 34:57SPEAKER_03: Um he was a person pulled over by the police or driving by them, but there was a quick shot on him in the car.
- 35:04SPEAKER_00: Oh.
- 35:05SPEAKER_03: And there were there were a few, there were a few like bigger cameos, and I was like, holy crap.
- 35:10SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna pull up the RMDB because the the Rotten Tomatoes is not enough.
- 35:14SPEAKER_00: It's like five people on that.
- 35:16SPEAKER_00: No.
- 35:17SPEAKER_00: But yeah, so it opens basically it opens with um the scene we were discussing already, which is there it's Vermont, it's near the border, and three three stoners are driving, and uh they're trying to get to uh Canada and they see the police, the police like drive by and they get they panic, and they uh they the guy in the back they tell him to eat the whole bag of weed.
- 35:42SPEAKER_00: And he does it.
- 35:43SPEAKER_03: Yes, and a bag of shrooms.
- 35:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 35:45SPEAKER_00: Because then it's the weed and then the shrooms, and then it's uh what is the last thing?
- 35:50SPEAKER_00: I can't I didn't write down the last thing, but I know it's a third thing, and he says no, just like throw it out the window.
- 35:57SPEAKER_03: I think that was like LSD or something.
- 35:59SPEAKER_00: Oh, maybe.
- 35:59SPEAKER_03: Like I feel like it was some kind of heart of the drug because he was like, I'm already on shrooms and with this feed, like no.
- 36:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's like this man is gonna die if he doesn't Yes.
- 36:08SPEAKER_03: Seriously, even the amount of shrooms he took, I was like, I know, it's so much.
- 36:16SPEAKER_03: It is, it's an entire bag.
- 36:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I like oh, no god, no, it makes me have a mental breakdown just to think about the amount of shrooms he took.
- 36:25SPEAKER_03: I would like break through my ego.
- 36:26SPEAKER_03: I would no longer be a person.
- 36:28SPEAKER_00: Well, I mean, he's kind of doing that.
- 36:29SPEAKER_00: He's he'd he's having a like some kind of it's almost like it's almost like it's what he's visualizing as well the entire time.
- 36:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, um, but that basically the police are just they they stop them.
- 36:43SPEAKER_00: Uh sorry, they drive ahead and they think they got away with it.
- 36:46SPEAKER_00: The police drive away.
- 36:47SPEAKER_00: And then suddenly then like they they stopped and they're like relaxed, they start laughing about it, they start, they relax, and then suddenly the car is behind them.
- 36:56SPEAKER_00: And they're like, how the hell did that get in?
- 36:59SPEAKER_03: Out of nowhere, it's so good.
- 37:01SPEAKER_03: Like you have to definitely suspend all uh belief in reality for this film.
- 37:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 37:06SPEAKER_03: But if you do, like you will enjoy it so much.
- 37:09SPEAKER_03: It's crazy outrageous.
- 37:11SPEAKER_00: So then then then the then the two uh state troopers come out come up, one's uh Jay Changer Seeker, and what the other guy is I think it's Rabbit, the other guy.
- 37:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Rabbit, the character, yeah.
- 37:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 37:25SPEAKER_00: So they pull them over and they um and basically they just start messing with them.
- 37:29SPEAKER_00: So they like they tell them they want to see their ID and they keep repeating stuff and they just like just do all this stuff to just match them.
- 37:35SPEAKER_03: Oh, they play the repeating game.
- 37:37SPEAKER_03: That's one of their games, is when they like repeat things back to back or like replay things like they didn't happen.
- 37:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 37:43SPEAKER_00: It's so funny.
- 37:44SPEAKER_00: It's it's what I would want to do if I was doing that job as well.
- 37:48SPEAKER_03: Fair enough.
- 37:49SPEAKER_03: Not that especially if you're that bored.
- 37:51SPEAKER_00: Not that I would ever do that job, but No.
- 37:55SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 37:55SPEAKER_03: No.
- 37:56SPEAKER_03: Just to be clear, we are not cops, it's not sponsored by cops.
- 37:59SPEAKER_00: No.
- 38:00SPEAKER_00: Um but then but then another car speeds past, and so they they they drag the three guys along in the car with them, they take them into the into the cop car, and they chase this guy, and it turns out to be uh Womack in disguise because he pulls up to the station, pulls his wig off, and he and it's him, and he's just like, Oh, you're not fast enough for me.
- 38:26SPEAKER_01: That was so good.
- 38:28SPEAKER_00: He's another cop, basically, and um and then he decides he's gonna mess with the guys outside, so he gets into the cop car and drives them, and he's he's like pretends he's hijacking the car and speeds away.
- 38:41SPEAKER_00: It's like we're going to Mexico.
- 38:44SPEAKER_00: And then just open then just opening credits.
- 38:46SPEAKER_03: Yes, and I believe like in that moment, like the uh guy who took all the drugs was literally just like licking the divider in the cop car.
- 38:54SPEAKER_03: I believe he was like sitting there like licking the window and his friends were freaking out.
- 38:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 38:58SPEAKER_03: And he was like, What?
- 39:01SPEAKER_03: He's so gone.
- 39:02SPEAKER_03: Like that, opening credits, really, really good open.
- 39:07SPEAKER_00: It's great because it just like it completely sets the entire scene of like what you what you're gonna expect with this movie.
- 39:13SPEAKER_00: It's like such a good opening scene for it.
- 39:15SPEAKER_00: Um and then it's immediately like them sitting in the in the diner, like chugging maple syrup against each other, like they're both have they in like a maple syrup contest.
- 39:26SPEAKER_00: And it's so disgusting.
- 39:28SPEAKER_00: And I read that like they originally they did it with iced tea, and then it like didn't uh it and then they had to like use real maple syrup at one point, and they did like nine takes with real maple syrup.
- 39:40SPEAKER_03: Oh god, I would have vomited after that.
- 39:42SPEAKER_00: So they were like chugging nine bottles of maple syrup.
- 39:46SPEAKER_03: Wow, that's commitment.
- 39:47SPEAKER_03: I gotta, I gotta respect that.
- 39:50SPEAKER_03: I mean it's the viscosity of it, like iced tea is not gonna pour look the same as maple syrup.
- 39:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, well, they they made some like thick version of iced tea and then it just didn't look right, so gross.
- 40:01SPEAKER_00: I I don't know what's worse, to be honest.
- 40:04SPEAKER_03: I don't either, like either of those would probably make me violently ill.
- 40:09SPEAKER_03: Just pure sugar non-stop, like uh Yeah, but I mean that's what you expect from those men, and the way they act is that they would eat nothing but sugar.
- 40:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 40:18SPEAKER_00: And then they uh the the actual cops come in.
- 40:23SPEAKER_00: I say the actual cops just to differentiate them.
- 40:25SPEAKER_00: Uh they um and they start having an argument with them, and uh they think that that Jay is Mexican, they make a joke about that.
- 40:34SPEAKER_03: Oh my god, I that would kill me, the fact that they like he so obviously not.
- 40:39SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 40:40SPEAKER_03: Oh god.
- 40:42SPEAKER_00: But yeah.
- 40:44SPEAKER_00: I yeah, I definitely know that coming from like someone who is also like half Indian and like gets mistaken all the time.
- 40:50SPEAKER_00: I know what that's like.
- 40:51SPEAKER_00: So I'm like, yep, I relate to that one.
- 40:54SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
- 40:56SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, it's oh god.
- 40:59SPEAKER_02: Go ahead, sorry.
- 41:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, go on.
- 41:00SPEAKER_00: They they so they find out there's not enough, uh there's been not enough arrests, and there's gonna be like they they're gonna lose their jobs if they don't arrest enough people uh enough and do enough things.
- 41:10SPEAKER_00: Um and then it's just like it's stupid.
- 41:14SPEAKER_03: There's there's so many like just little scenes about nothing, but they're just they are, but they build into it like when uh Foster goes over and flirts with like the the county cop or whatever, yeah.
- 41:25SPEAKER_03: Like, that into it.
- 41:28SPEAKER_03: She's she's also been in stuff too.
- 41:30SPEAKER_03: She looks very familiar.
- 41:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah, she does look very familiar.
- 41:35SPEAKER_00: Probably, probably.
- 41:36SPEAKER_03: She looks like a girl next door, don't you think?
- 41:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 41:39SPEAKER_03: Like I think she totally does.
- 41:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 41:41SPEAKER_03: But that was a good setup for that because I was like, I loved it.
- 41:45SPEAKER_03: And then being out of maple syrup for her pancakes because they literally drank them all.
- 41:49SPEAKER_00: And he makes the terrible joke about like, oh, uh, you're lucky you're not out of ketchup.
- 41:54SPEAKER_00: No, sorry.
- 41:54SPEAKER_00: He says he says you're lucky you um you didn't order hash browns because you'd be out of ketchup if they had if they had ketchup.
- 42:02SPEAKER_00: So it's just like, what are you talking about?
- 42:06SPEAKER_03: I love to watch men embarrass themselves in front of women, but it's also so hard to watch at the same time.
- 42:10SPEAKER_03: Even if I know it's acting, I'm just like feeling so cringy.
- 42:14SPEAKER_00: I think it's so funny.
- 42:15SPEAKER_00: I love doing that.
- 42:16SPEAKER_00: I love watching that.
- 42:17SPEAKER_00: Um there's a scene of like they're in the uh in the office and they're just like, um, and Father brings it, Father's like trying to prank them, and he brings in like the coffee, and he's like, Oh no, that one's for the new guy, for the rookie, and it says rookie on it, and they're like, Oh, you've put soap in the coffee, good one.
- 42:36SPEAKER_00: He's like, Yeah, I got you.
- 42:38SPEAKER_00: I got you.
- 42:39SPEAKER_03: He is such oh he's such a dick.
- 42:43SPEAKER_03: He's such a dick, and he's so stupid.
- 42:46SPEAKER_03: And it's just like I got actually a ton of joy from that scene where the county cops have him and they're like putting powdered sugar all over him, and they're like, sorry about the D lousing, and he's like, This is powdered sugar.
- 42:57SPEAKER_03: Goddy, I just hate him.
- 42:58SPEAKER_03: He ruins everything.
- 42:59SPEAKER_03: I know.
- 42:59SPEAKER_03: But I know he's meant to do that.
- 43:01SPEAKER_03: I know.
- 43:01SPEAKER_00: I know, I know his purpose, but like he just he's what I imagine real cops are like as well.
- 43:08SPEAKER_03: Yes, okay, yeah, I agree.
- 43:10SPEAKER_03: I would say he is the closest thing to a real cop in there.
- 43:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'd say him and then the the police chief, like the police, the main guy on the other team.
- 43:19SPEAKER_00: I'd say those two are like the most realistic.
- 43:22SPEAKER_03: And also the one with the um the mustache who does the bullet game.
- 43:27SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, like yeah, that one too.
- 43:31SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 43:33SPEAKER_00: Like none none of them, they all call each other like their names and their nicknames, so it's so hard to keep up with all of them.
- 43:39SPEAKER_03: I have no idea which one is which.
- 43:40SPEAKER_03: I just know Farva and um Rabbit.
- 43:44SPEAKER_03: I don't even know Jay Chandra Sagar is like, I don't remember the name, I just calling him Jay.
- 43:49SPEAKER_00: We'll call him Jay.
- 43:50SPEAKER_00: And also, but like Rabbit is also called rookie.
- 43:52SPEAKER_00: That's the other thing.
- 43:53SPEAKER_03: That's true.
- 43:54SPEAKER_03: Rabbit is the rookie.
- 43:55SPEAKER_03: Oh god.
- 43:57SPEAKER_00: Um but any anyway, there's like Like um they they play the meow game at this point, which is just like it's so fun.
- 44:04SPEAKER_00: So the idea is that one of them is gonna go over, they could they pull someone over and they're gonna they're gonna like say meow ten times.
- 44:10SPEAKER_00: He bits him, he can't say meow ten times in the conversation while putting him over.
- 44:14SPEAKER_00: Um and he goes over and he's like he just says like write meow, give me it meow, like all these things just to say it.
- 44:21SPEAKER_00: And then the guy's just like really bowing, he's like, What are you are you saying, meow?
- 44:25SPEAKER_00: And then he just plays up to it.
- 44:27SPEAKER_00: He's like, What do you think I'm saying?
- 44:29SPEAKER_00: How dare you?
- 44:30SPEAKER_00: Like, just so funny.
- 44:32SPEAKER_00: It's so funny.
- 44:34SPEAKER_00: And it's I don't know why that scene is the one that stuck with me all these years, but it's just like I just it's so memorable.
- 44:41SPEAKER_03: Really?
- 44:42SPEAKER_03: That's your that's your like most memorable scene.
- 44:44SPEAKER_03: I feel like I think I know what mine is, but I'll wait till we get it.
- 44:48SPEAKER_00: Okay, you're gonna okay.
- 44:50SPEAKER_00: I'm trying to think what yours was gonna be now.
- 44:54SPEAKER_03: It it got me good.
- 44:56SPEAKER_03: It was like I just I'll tell I'll tell you this.
- 44:59SPEAKER_03: Brian Cox is in the scene.
- 45:01SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 45:02SPEAKER_00: Oh, I think I know.
- 45:04SPEAKER_00: I think I know I think I know what it's gonna be.
- 45:07SPEAKER_00: Um but uh I wrote down that the the rookie and father fight, and I don't know, I can't remember why they fight.
- 45:16SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of fighting in this for like no reason.
- 45:18SPEAKER_03: There's a lot of fighting, like the big fight at the Winnebago too versus like the cops and the um I mean that happens that happens like right after whatever this seed is.
- 45:27SPEAKER_00: It's like the pig so there's the pig in the in the Winnebago they find, and the and so like they both they both arrived at the same time, like the cops and the state troopers, and they're like both fighting over who's gonna like have jurisdiction, I guess.
- 45:40SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 45:41SPEAKER_00: And and uh they just like they're arguing about like um because there's the dead, there's the like the dead woman, and she's got like a tattoo on her of like a monkey um smoking a joint, I think he is, isn't he?
- 45:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and he's smoking like a banana even or something.
- 46:01SPEAKER_00: It makes it look it's very stupid, but it's just like she's got a tattoo of that on her, and they're like, Oh, that's weird.
- 46:06SPEAKER_00: Um and then uh so they fight the police over it and everything, and they're like uh just going over that sort of stuff.
- 46:12SPEAKER_00: Then Rabbit Rabbit is stuffed in the in the uh locker with shaving cream all over his body.
- 46:20SPEAKER_00: Yes, no context for it, they're just doing it.
- 46:23SPEAKER_01: None.
- 46:24SPEAKER_01: It's just it was just a scene in there, and that's what I mean.
- 46:26SPEAKER_00: Like by like there's so many like just random things.
- 46:28SPEAKER_00: I'm trying to like come across the store.
- 46:31SPEAKER_00: Like, there's there's a little bit of a story, but like not really.
- 46:34SPEAKER_03: No, not really.
- 46:35SPEAKER_03: It doesn't do much to build in the story, but it's like interesting and funny, and it draws you like back into it, I guess.
- 46:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it just shows how like childish they are, I guess.
- 46:44SPEAKER_00: Yes, how immature, yeah.
- 46:48SPEAKER_00: But then there's a a children's baseball game, which is uh Jay and his hippie uh white hippie girlfriend's son.
- 46:56SPEAKER_00: Um and it's like that uh he's he's in like a little baseball game, and all of them are there watching, and and I I guess it's like the children of the cops.
- 47:07SPEAKER_00: I don't know, because like all the cops are there as well.
- 47:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they were on the other side, so that that has to be yeah, it has to be something to do with that.
- 47:15SPEAKER_00: But but the whole thing is it's like uh what's his name?
- 47:19SPEAKER_00: Goes and flirts with the with Ursula.
- 47:21SPEAKER_03: Um yes, Foster.
- 47:24SPEAKER_00: Foster, yes.
- 47:24SPEAKER_00: He goes and flirts with the floor.
- 47:27SPEAKER_03: That's why I couldn't remember because it's so abstract for a white woman.
- 47:30SPEAKER_03: Like, why did they name her Ursula?
- 47:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's it's not I mean I did know an Ursula.
- 47:36SPEAKER_03: She looks like a kitty or a Jen.
- 47:37SPEAKER_00: Like I knew I knew a white Ursula at school, to be fair.
- 47:41SPEAKER_03: Did you?
- 47:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 47:42SPEAKER_03: I don't I haven't known any Ursulas, but I just like would never expect someone who looks like the girl next door to be named Ursula.
- 47:50SPEAKER_03: Like that's what that's just what threw me.
- 47:51SPEAKER_03: I was like, what?
- 47:52SPEAKER_03: I can't believe you've known an Ursula in real life.
- 47:54SPEAKER_03: Okay, please continue.
- 47:54SPEAKER_03: Sorry.
- 47:55SPEAKER_00: Literally the only one, but again, like 15 years ago.
- 47:58SPEAKER_00: This wasn't not another one since.
- 48:00SPEAKER_00: I've I've never met another one since.
- 48:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 48:03SPEAKER_00: Um but then yeah, so he he he goes and flirts with Ursula about um about uh just like things in general, and he's like eating his snow cone and she flirts back with him, and then she's like uh she's like, Oh, sorry about the thing.
- 48:18SPEAKER_00: Oh you you can have a punch if you want against like you can but she's like obviously missing around.
- 48:23SPEAKER_00: She like closes her eyes, and as she closes her eyes, the baseball comes flying through and like whacks her in the in the chin, and she thinks he's hit him, hit her.
- 48:31SPEAKER_00: Yes, but then it was so good.
- 48:33SPEAKER_00: It's so good, but then like at the same time, she just doesn't care after that.
- 48:36SPEAKER_00: She's fine.
- 48:37SPEAKER_03: That's what I was thinking.
- 48:38SPEAKER_03: Like, she literally flipped a switch, like either she didn't she didn't like she actually did think that he hit her, or she like didn't think she did, and like she wanted to hit him anyways, like hit him back.
- 48:48SPEAKER_03: I don't know, but that's like I thought about that.
- 48:50SPEAKER_03: That didn't make sense to me.
- 48:51SPEAKER_03: Like in one moment she was like, You just punched me, and the next moment they were flirting.
- 48:55SPEAKER_03: I was like, Yeah, what's like I don't take as kindly to men hitting me, so it's like maybe it's a cop thing.
- 49:03SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 49:03SPEAKER_00: I don't know what's going on there.
- 49:05SPEAKER_00: Like, if someone hit me, I'm not gonna flirt with them anymore.
- 49:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah, agreed.
- 49:10SPEAKER_03: Um, but yeah, that was really fucking funny.
- 49:13SPEAKER_03: That was so perfectly fun.
- 49:16SPEAKER_00: I think that's the whole purpose of like that seed is just for that.
- 49:19SPEAKER_00: It seems like Yeah, it is.
- 49:20SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 49:21SPEAKER_03: Some of them are literally just like gags that they were like, we really don't want this bit to die.
- 49:25SPEAKER_03: We're like, okay.
- 49:27SPEAKER_00: Even the giant cotton candy thing.
- 49:28SPEAKER_00: Like they just like they prank the other guys with the giant cotton candy and he gets so angry and he like shoves it on the person's head.
- 49:35SPEAKER_03: That was yeah, it just it's childish.
- 49:37SPEAKER_03: It's very like if adults acted like children, and I like that about the humor.
- 49:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 49:44SPEAKER_00: Um, but then like Foster goes to the police station to talk to Ursula, and uh and he's just like flirting with her there, and she's like fine with it again.
- 49:54SPEAKER_00: Because it's like that's I think that's the other thing, it's immediately immediately after she flirts, they flirt again.
- 49:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's not even like a scene between it.
- 50:01SPEAKER_03: No, they didn't tie it together anything.
- 50:04SPEAKER_03: I was like, Can I have some context?
- 50:05SPEAKER_03: Can I have a crumb of context, please?
- 50:08SPEAKER_03: It's very a sprinkle of context in here.
- 50:13SPEAKER_00: But then they um they pull over I'm gonna be jumping around a lot because it jumped.
- 50:18SPEAKER_00: The movie does jump around, so I apologize for that.
- 50:20SPEAKER_00: Um but then they they go to the bun they pull over the this truck, this like big truck that's like Bunty soap, and they play the repeat game with him, even though like Jay is like, no, don't do it, let's be serious, let's be Oh, is it Jay?
- 50:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, with Jay saying to be serious because he was actually committed to like the police station keeping.
- 50:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so he says, like, just not play it, and then the other guy wants to play it, and the guy uh is like okay, fine, opens the truck up, they get inside, and he locks them in there and like runs away.
- 50:56SPEAKER_00: So they get picked up two hours later by the rest of them, and then they find out that it was inside the boxes inside the truck was just loads and loads of weed with the with the monkey lo uh monkey logo on it.
- 51:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah, the same one that was tattooed on the mysterious woman in the Winnebago, if you were listening.
- 51:15SPEAKER_00: So, does that tie together?
- 51:18SPEAKER_00: Maybe.
- 51:19SPEAKER_01: Maybe.
- 51:20SPEAKER_00: Uh people some people don't think so.
- 51:23SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, the cops.
- 51:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 51:26SPEAKER_00: So they have all this weed in in the in in their station, and the mayor shows up to have a photo shoot with it.
- 51:33SPEAKER_02: That was so good when the mayor showed up and he was like, throw me that gun.
- 51:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you're like, throw me the gun, and he starts like doing moves with it and everything, just like a shotgun.
- 51:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 51:43SPEAKER_00: It's just so funny.
- 51:45SPEAKER_00: And so they get in the paper with that, and and then the next scene is this like German por like they pull over these Germans in a Porsche.
- 51:54SPEAKER_02: Oh my god, what the fuck?
- 51:56SPEAKER_00: What is that scene?
- 51:57SPEAKER_00: What is going on?
- 51:59SPEAKER_03: And I think just for a stolen car?
- 52:01SPEAKER_03: Like, what is it?
- 52:03SPEAKER_03: I think they weren't part of it, were they?
- 52:05SPEAKER_00: No, they weren't part of anything.
- 52:07SPEAKER_00: They were just like stay just stolen.
- 52:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they'd stolen the car, they'd stolen the Porsche.
- 52:13SPEAKER_00: And uh I I feel like this that whole scene was just for the purpose of like though, you know, like those comedies from around that time with just like where they had to have a naked woman at some point, they had to have a sex scene.
- 52:25SPEAKER_00: I think it was just for that.
- 52:28SPEAKER_03: I think so too.
- 52:29SPEAKER_03: It does seem like that.
- 52:30SPEAKER_03: They were like, oh man, there haven't been too many chicks in here, and the one we do have has been fully clothed this entire time.
- 52:35SPEAKER_03: We gotta do something, and we gotta do something quick.
- 52:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and like the whole thing is just like they pull them over, and then Rabbit goes up to them and start and like does the whole thing and stalk talks to them, and then start, and then the woman gets out the car, and he starts just like fully making it out with her, like feeding her up, and it's just very, very weird.
- 52:57SPEAKER_03: Yes, but then Jay finds out that it's a hot car.
- 53:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah, which I didn't know that that minute was stolen.
- 53:04SPEAKER_03: When they said it was hot, I was like, Yeah, like portions are cool.
- 53:07SPEAKER_03: And then he was like, Oh, okay, it's stolen part of what that means.
- 53:12SPEAKER_00: I feel like I've always known that.
- 53:14SPEAKER_00: I don't know where I must have learned it from like early cop shows or something.
- 53:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I don't know.
- 53:18SPEAKER_03: I just didn't know that.
- 53:19SPEAKER_03: I was like, oh, it's a it's a hot car, hot car.
- 53:22SPEAKER_03: Like hot potato?
- 53:24SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 53:25SPEAKER_03: But yeah, I love that.
- 53:26SPEAKER_03: And like the man, the the husband was trying to barter sex with the wife to get them to get out of it because he knew they were driving a hot car and had gotten pulled over.
- 53:34SPEAKER_00: She's like, I will do something for you if you will let us go, basically.
- 53:39SPEAKER_00: And then he's like, what the husband is like watching, like really turned on by it as well.
- 53:44SPEAKER_03: Yes, huge cock definitely loves it.
- 53:48SPEAKER_00: Uh tweets her own, but yeah.
- 53:51SPEAKER_00: Um the eventually he takes they take they take them away or whatever, and then Rabbit takes out the car on his own, puts on a wig, and takes out the car on his own and just speeds off.
- 54:07SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 54:09SPEAKER_00: Ridiculous.
- 54:10SPEAKER_00: And then you find out like the the the Germans are having like a foresome with with Jay and his girlfriend as well.
- 54:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's oh my god, it was literally so much insanity.
- 54:21SPEAKER_00: Like these are back-to-back scenes.
- 54:24SPEAKER_00: It's like it's so weird.
- 54:25SPEAKER_00: There's so many weird things in here, but um It is then it starts to pick up the story now, finally.
- 54:32SPEAKER_00: So like Foster goes off and like pretends that he calls he calls Ursula on the phone and pretends to be like this creepy he pretends to be a woman who's like seen a creep, and then he like she looks out the window and he he's like pretending to flash her.
- 54:45SPEAKER_00: Um but it's him on the phone, obviously, and then she like and then he hears like the sound of a gun cocking and like it's like this cr this voice saying like they're gonna kill him basically, and he's like very scared, and then suddenly he realizes it's Ursula on the voice modulator uh right behind you.
- 55:04SPEAKER_00: Which is a it's a fun scene.
- 55:05SPEAKER_00: Um It is and then they like they start making out, they go to they jump into the uh the Winnebago to like go have sex, and they find uh so the bed smashes and they find all the drugs underneath.
- 55:20SPEAKER_00: So like they've been hired like the the basically the Winnebago's been in like the police lot for days or whatever, and it's just been sitting there with like loads of drugs unknown to them, supposedly.
- 55:32SPEAKER_00: And then they so they go and like hook up in they go and hook up in the back of a car instead.
- 55:38SPEAKER_00: In the back of a cop car.
- 55:40SPEAKER_03: Oh, when they lock themselves in there, themselves in because yeah, because she was like, She was like, uh, Boster, uh when I get in the back of a cop car, you usually have to let someone out.
- 55:50SPEAKER_03: And and they're like, oh fuck.
- 55:52SPEAKER_03: But then they just did it anyway.
- 55:55SPEAKER_00: So good.
- 55:57SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, and then it goes to like father and his um he's like he wants to like be part of the team and he wants to get involved in everything.
- 56:05SPEAKER_00: It's like, oh what do you do?
- 56:06SPEAKER_00: What do you do for fun?
- 56:07SPEAKER_00: What are your pranks and everything?
- 56:08SPEAKER_00: He's like, uh they're like, oh, we do the meow game.
- 56:10SPEAKER_00: It's like, oh that's nothing.
- 56:11SPEAKER_00: I can go I bet I can go and like call one of them a chicken fucker.
- 56:14SPEAKER_00: And and like and so he goes and tells the tells these like oh elderly people, he calls them a chicken fucker.
- 56:20SPEAKER_00: Literally, like as he's pulled them over.
- 56:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he does not get it.
- 56:27SPEAKER_03: He's the one who wants to be a part of the crew so badly that he would say anything, and it's like, no, that's not correct, that's not what we want.
- 56:32SPEAKER_00: No, you're just an asshole.
- 56:35SPEAKER_03: Yes, exactly.
- 56:37SPEAKER_00: But he gets he kind of gets a bit of comeuffance here because he like goes, they go to the uh the fast food place and Yes.
- 56:48SPEAKER_00: And the the guy behind the counter is like fast food for a cop.
- 56:53SPEAKER_00: He's like announces it, and then you're like, Why did you say that?
- 56:55SPEAKER_00: Why do you say for a cop?
- 56:56SPEAKER_00: Are you gonna spit in it?
- 56:58SPEAKER_00: He's like, No, I'd never do that.
- 57:00SPEAKER_00: And then he asked for a liter his liter of cola.
- 57:03SPEAKER_03: And they're like Wait, but then the guy goes, Hold the spit.
- 57:06SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, hold the spit.
- 57:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you're right.
- 57:08SPEAKER_00: He says, Hold the spit.
- 57:12SPEAKER_00: He asked for a liter of cola, and he's just like, What is a liter of cola?
- 57:17SPEAKER_03: But the way he like father said it is like, give me a liter of cola.
- 57:22SPEAKER_04: Yeah, a liter of cola.
- 57:22SPEAKER_03: And he's like, What's a liter of cola?
- 57:25SPEAKER_03: And he's like, No, I want a liter of cola.
- 57:28SPEAKER_03: A liter of cola.
- 57:30SPEAKER_03: And oh my god.
- 57:31SPEAKER_03: And then Jay goes in the mic.
- 57:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 57:33SPEAKER_03: Like, liter of cola.
- 57:34SPEAKER_00: Liter of cola.
- 57:35SPEAKER_00: And then Jay goes to him, just have a large father, just have a large father, and he goes, I don't want a large father.
- 57:41SPEAKER_00: Another stupid but great joke.
- 57:45SPEAKER_00: And then they're sitting down and he like peels off the like the money uh thing on it, like the fake McDonald's Monopoly thing, I guess it is.
- 57:53SPEAKER_00: And like it's like there's a hole in it, and he just covered in the in the in the drink.
- 57:58SPEAKER_00: Just covered in it.
- 57:59SPEAKER_03: And he just launches and tackles the guy.
- 58:03SPEAKER_00: And so he gets arrested for it.
- 58:06SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 58:06SPEAKER_03: And he ends up- Yeah, and that's how he ends up getting like sprayed down and covered in powdered sugar by the like county cop.
- 58:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 58:13SPEAKER_00: Because they say they're delousing him, but it's just powdered sugar, they're pouring on him, and they're just like spraying him with water and then powdered sugar.
- 58:21SPEAKER_00: And he's actually fully naked as well.
- 58:24SPEAKER_00: I was surprised.
- 58:25SPEAKER_03: And he doesn't look like he's not enjoying it as much as I would expect to look like they're not enjoying it.
- 58:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's just dating with it.
- 58:32SPEAKER_00: He's just like, okay, this is part of it.
- 58:35SPEAKER_00: But but yeah, like that, he turns around and you like see him fully naked.
- 58:39SPEAKER_00: Which surprises me.
- 58:40SPEAKER_03: I was like, I didn't I didn't need that.
- 58:42SPEAKER_00: No.
- 58:45SPEAKER_03: It was fine, you know.
- 58:46SPEAKER_03: All bodies are great and everything, but I was like, okay, I could have lived without this problem.
- 58:50SPEAKER_00: I just wasn't expecting it as well.
- 58:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I wasn't either.
- 58:55SPEAKER_03: Oh, there's this, there's his pee-pee.
- 59:00SPEAKER_00: Uh but then the the chief tries to make a deal.
- 59:04SPEAKER_00: Um I can't remember what deal he tries to.
- 59:06SPEAKER_00: He just oh he goes he goes to the house.
- 59:08SPEAKER_03: He's trying to make a deal with the county, like the county chief.
- 59:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 59:11SPEAKER_00: I can't remember what deal he's trying to make.
- 59:12SPEAKER_00: Do you remember?
- 59:13SPEAKER_03: He was trying to um say that like if if they're if they work together on this and like split it, then he had the lead, I think.
- 59:23SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, you're right.
- 59:24SPEAKER_03: I think that's what he was saying.
- 59:25SPEAKER_03: He's like, I know what how this is connected, and they were like, no, you're stupid.
- 59:28SPEAKER_03: And then he starts making all the jokes, and he's like, Oh, I got Mr.
- 59:31SPEAKER_03: Bananas on the line.
- 59:32SPEAKER_03: He said he wants to like say he did the crimes and fest.
- 59:37SPEAKER_00: Just awesome.
- 59:40SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 59:41SPEAKER_03: I'm like, don't treat Brian Cox that way.
- 59:43SPEAKER_00: No, he would especially not now.
- 59:47SPEAKER_03: No, especially not now.
- 59:49SPEAKER_00: And then uh, but then but then they all they all go back to like the they all go back and like watch Johnny Chimps Chimpo while high.
- 59:58SPEAKER_00: They literally like they like dig into the into the uh yeah the stash, and they just like they start watching Johnny Chimpo while high.
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_00: They're like, maybe you missed something, watch it again.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_00: And that show looks insane.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_00: It's just like what is going on?
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_03: It does.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_03: The fact that they probably made that for this is like crazy.
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_00: Definitely.
- 1:00:19SPEAKER_00: It just looks like a fever dream.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_01: Yes, it does.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_00: And there's just a great joke about like Brian Cox just like, I won't have any more of your shenanigans.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_00: Stop shaming, stop saying shenanigans.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_00: The next one to say shenanigans are pistol whip, and then they go, they they get father back, and they're like, Father, what's that name of the place?
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_00: Uh the restaurant with all the badges, and like he's like, You mean shenanigans?
- 1:00:43SPEAKER_00: And he's like, God damn it.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_03: Oh god.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_03: I just like love it.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_03: They're like really rewatching it now.
- 1:00:51SPEAKER_00: Like Brian Cox made the film from yeah, I just love angry Brian Cox, it's just so funny.
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_03: Same.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_03: He's great.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_03: This was like a perfect role for him.
- 1:00:59SPEAKER_03: He should never be happier pleased in any of his roles.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_02: That's just the truth.
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_00: Um, and they go on the they have their like bikers date where where um Ursula shows up and she's wearing like a biker outfit, and then and then uh Foster is wearing a cyclist outfit, and he like he's like, oh bikers, of course.
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_03: Oh bikers.
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_03: I love that.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_03: I love how like they're never on the same page, but still somehow they just continue to vibe.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_03: I'm like, this makes no sense and does not track for real life.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_00: No, I can't even remember if anything happens in that scene or if it's just that bit.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_00: I wrote I just wrote down biker's day because I don't think anything happens.
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_03: Sure.
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_03: That's so yeah, I think it might just be like them having another mishap.
- 1:01:53SPEAKER_03: They like really love to hone on that.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_00: Oh, and then here's the scene that um it's just painful to to imagine.
- 1:02:01SPEAKER_00: It's just that when they're testing the cup shots.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_00: They have like a they have like a a bulletproof cup, supposedly, and they put it on.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and they were the bulletproof and but like we're completely naked besides that, or at least one of them wants.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_00: And they're just shooting the cup, and then they're like, Oh, um, who's it they try and get to do it?
- 1:02:21SPEAKER_00: It's the rookie, isn't it?
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_00: They want to get and he go, he's going to go do it, and then Brian Cox shows up and he's like, Um, oh yeah, we we played this in my day.
- 1:02:29SPEAKER_00: Um, and then he like grabs the gun and shoots the uh shoots the window, and he's like, Yeah, in my day they were blanks.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_03: That's my favorite part.
- 1:02:39SPEAKER_03: That's it, that's it.
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_03: That was it.
- 1:02:41SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's not what that's not the one I was expecting.
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_03: He goes, You six sons of bitches.
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_03: He was like, back in my day we used blanks, you six sons of bitches, and I was like, That's it, that's it, that's exactly what I wanted and needed from Brian Cox at this moment.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_00: That's not the scene I was expecting.
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_00: I thought it was a later one.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_03: We'll see, we'll see.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_03: I mean, I had like two favorites, but like one's more just a note.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_03: But that one's a good one.
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_03: No, that is a great scene.
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_00: It's a really funny scene.
- 1:03:06SPEAKER_00: You sick fucks.
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because he's actually having it done.
- 1:03:11SPEAKER_00: He he's like properly doing it.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_00: Which is oh what are you doing?
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_03: No, that's like scary and a lot of trust to put in other people.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_03: Good dog.
- 1:03:25SPEAKER_00: But um, yeah.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_00: Then then they have the governor's meeting.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_00: So it's like it's near the end of the movie now, but they have the governor's meeting and um she shows up.
- 1:03:34SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, the governor.
- 1:03:37SPEAKER_00: And she's like shows up and then um to see everything.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_00: And this is what you said you were saying earlier about like she shows up and she's like, just weed.
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay.
- 1:03:46SPEAKER_02: Yes, I love that part.
- 1:03:48SPEAKER_02: Okay, so just weed.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_00: Is that is that everything?
- 1:03:54SPEAKER_00: Um then she like um they get they get the police to leave the station so they can like break in.
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 1:04:03SPEAKER_00: And they steal the Winnebago.
- 1:04:06SPEAKER_00: And while that's going on, the uh the police are watching Rabbit have uh sex with a bear.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_00: Rabbit is in what rabbit is in the he's one of the names of the characters.
- 1:04:17SPEAKER_03: I forgot about that.
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_03: That is how they keep him distracted.
- 1:04:21SPEAKER_00: It's so weird, it's so weird and good, it's good, yeah.
- 1:04:25SPEAKER_00: And he's like dressed up as a whole output all together.
- 1:04:27SPEAKER_00: He's dressed up as like a hillbilly or something, and then he's having sex with a fake bear like with these noises playing in the background, and then everyone's like terrified.
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and they're like, Sir, are you okay?
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_03: Is this consensual?
- 1:04:41SPEAKER_03: Like consensual.
- 1:04:44SPEAKER_03: They're being so weird.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_03: I swear they asked don't they ask the bear if it's consensual.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think so.
- 1:04:52SPEAKER_03: It makes no sense.
- 1:04:54SPEAKER_00: But they're they the other the the other guys sp uh take the win away again, they speed to the meeting, uh, which a couple of them are already at, and they find out that Officer Brady has already turned in the weed.
- 1:05:07SPEAKER_00: Because they think they're turning in the weed, Officer Brady's already done it.
- 1:05:11SPEAKER_03: And Foster thinks he's betrayed.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Foster thinks he's been betrayed by Ursula, and so they have an argument, um, and they're all out of their jobs, they've lost their jobs.
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_00: And they fight and they're all drinking, they're all having a like a last-minute drink, and they find out that Father is a cop now, he's taken he's got one of their job.
- 1:05:33SPEAKER_00: Because of course he would be the one to do it out of all of course he would.
- 1:05:37SPEAKER_00: No loyalty, and so they cuff him to a toilet.
- 1:05:42SPEAKER_00: Yes, and they steal his cop car and they go out like completely drunk.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_00: And I thought this was gonna be your favourite scene, which is just like they they're stealing the cop car, and Brian Cox is like very drunk and like smashing everything up and like breaking Brady's house.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_00: But like outside Brady's house.
- 1:06:01SPEAKER_00: One more.
- 1:06:02SPEAKER_00: Really?
- 1:06:02SPEAKER_03: And one more Brian Cox moment.
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_03: It's in the end.
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_03: It's like one of my last notes.
- 1:06:05SPEAKER_03: It's so good.
- 1:06:08SPEAKER_00: Great, great.
- 1:06:09SPEAKER_00: I don't even know what that one's gonna be now.
- 1:06:12SPEAKER_03: I know you probably it probably didn't even like cross your mind, but for me, I was just like, wow, that's amazing.
- 1:06:17SPEAKER_03: This is the Brian Cox, I love him now.
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_00: Um, but while they're doing all that, Foster Radio Radio's Ursula, and she's like, Okay, I'll tell you, I'll tell you what the plan is.
- 1:06:27SPEAKER_00: Uh and she tells them the plan, she's like, Meet me at 10:30 at this location.
- 1:06:31SPEAKER_00: And so they go there and they're watching, and they're like, She's late.
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_00: And as they're there, uh the truck, the original truck drives past and they recognize it, and they go to like drive out to stop it, and father pulls up in in like the Porsche and stops them.
- 1:06:45SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 1:06:47SPEAKER_02: Oh, it's so good.
- 1:06:49SPEAKER_00: That's what it's so great, and they're all just like, What are you doing?
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_00: and and all this stuff, and they like they're looking out with the binoculars and they see that the police are all in on it.
- 1:06:59SPEAKER_00: If they think first of all, they think the police are like there first, and they're gonna like arrest everyone, but then they find out the police are in on it, and they're like they're like trafficking uh weed into Vermont, I guess.
- 1:07:10SPEAKER_00: They say they're trafficking it.
- 1:07:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they are and um and so they take them all down, they'd like rush in, and well Father goes in first, and he's like uh pretends to be he's like the the decoy essentially, and he like pretends uh to be an idiot for one scene and the rest of them manage to get in and stop all the police.
- 1:07:31SPEAKER_03: Yes, they do.
- 1:07:32SPEAKER_03: Uh oh my god.
- 1:07:34SPEAKER_03: It was just god, the whole the whole all this.
- 1:07:37SPEAKER_03: I didn't see the ending coming, especially.
- 1:07:39SPEAKER_04: Really?
- 1:07:39SPEAKER_03: Like, given all the banter.
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_03: I mean, like, I it'd been a while since I saw it, and I was watching and I was like, oh, this makes sense.
- 1:07:44SPEAKER_03: This is how they'd end up, and then I was like, oh shit.
- 1:07:48SPEAKER_00: So good.
- 1:07:49SPEAKER_00: See, my mind always goes to like, I don't trust them, they're the bad guys.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_00: So I'm like, okay, that's gonna happen.
- 1:07:55SPEAKER_00: Agreed.
- 1:07:57SPEAKER_03: I don't trust them either.
- 1:08:00SPEAKER_00: And then um they so they take them down, and but the state they find out that even though all this has happened, the station is still closing, and it cuts to like three months later, and you and you're like, and you see Jay and uh is it Rabbit?
- 1:08:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah, though oh, is this when they're working for the keg thing?
- 1:08:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, okay.
- 1:08:23SPEAKER_03: I think this happened before this.
- 1:08:24SPEAKER_03: Um the thing I have to mention about Brian Cox is that no, it's so small, it's literally just that I noticed.
- 1:08:30SPEAKER_03: But that scene where they're all um like uh what is it, mourning, like they're mourning over the loss of the station essentially.
- 1:08:37SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, that's when they're drinking.
- 1:08:39SPEAKER_00: That's that's when they're first drinking, yeah.
- 1:08:41SPEAKER_03: Is it okay?
- 1:08:42SPEAKER_03: Well, then I must have missed it.
- 1:08:43SPEAKER_03: But um, it's the scene where Brian Cox is wearing the jeans, the jean shirt, yes, jean jacket, and I literally like I wrote, I was like, this is way more iconic than Britney and Justin.
- 1:08:54SPEAKER_03: Like Brian Cox did it first, and don't you ever try to take credit again.
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_00: That's so true.
- 1:08:59SPEAKER_00: And he really did do it first.
- 1:09:02SPEAKER_03: It looked amazing too.
- 1:09:03SPEAKER_03: I was like, wow, Brian Cox, an icon.
- 1:09:05SPEAKER_03: Who would have thought it?
- 1:09:06SPEAKER_00: It's not even double denim, it's triple denim.
- 1:09:09SPEAKER_03: Yes, it was triple.
- 1:09:11SPEAKER_03: I was like, a 2000th icon, we love him.
- 1:09:16SPEAKER_00: Because you know, like you know, like double denim is supposed to be like the Canadian thing.
- 1:09:20SPEAKER_00: Maybe it's the thing of like, no, I'm gonna do one step more because I'm in Vermont.
- 1:09:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah, a Canadian Canadian tuxedoes.
- 1:09:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Canadian tuxedo.
- 1:09:29SPEAKER_03: Yes, I loved it.
- 1:09:31SPEAKER_00: That's great.
- 1:09:31SPEAKER_00: That's you're right, that is so funny.
- 1:09:33SPEAKER_00: And he calls it uh father calls him something funny, but I can't remember what it is.
- 1:09:38SPEAKER_03: Oh, he does, you're right.
- 1:09:39SPEAKER_03: I don't know what he calls him either, though.
- 1:09:42SPEAKER_00: He said something, it's quite funny, but I didn't write it down for some reason.
- 1:09:46SPEAKER_03: He had a good singer.
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_03: We'll just let that no, let that exist out there.
- 1:09:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:09:52SPEAKER_00: It's the one zinger he gets.
- 1:09:53SPEAKER_00: Um but anyway, it's like three months later, and the they they're like tak they're now like delivery they're like delivering beer to this house.
- 1:10:02SPEAKER_00: So they got like a new job as a as like these beer truck, these like truck drivers with like delivering beer.
- 1:10:09SPEAKER_00: And this pe these people open the door and it's one of the stoners from the start of the movie.
- 1:10:15SPEAKER_00: And he's terrified.
- 1:10:16SPEAKER_00: He's like, Oh, it's you guys.
- 1:10:17SPEAKER_00: He recognises them immediately.
- 1:10:20SPEAKER_00: And he's like, they're like, Yeah, we lost our jobs, don't worry about it.
- 1:10:24SPEAKER_00: It's fine, we're not we're just here to deliver the beer.
- 1:10:26SPEAKER_00: So like he he messes with them, he like tells them to like bring the keg in, put it in one place, and then like, no, actually over this place, oh no, actually the fung the feng shui would look better on this place.
- 1:10:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and like as all that's got going on, they're like, Oh, um Is it eat how come we have your ID?
- 1:10:45SPEAKER_00: And it's like, oh I don't have ID, but what I do have is like this five dollar bill, gives it to them, and then they're like, Oh no, actually, um, so I can't remember the currencies of like everything.
- 1:10:54SPEAKER_00: So, what is it?
- 1:10:54SPEAKER_00: Is it he says Lincoln?
- 1:10:55SPEAKER_00: Is it is that right?
- 1:10:57SPEAKER_03: That might be like a one dollar bill.
- 1:10:59SPEAKER_00: No, then maybe it's a ten?
- 1:11:00SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 1:11:01SPEAKER_00: I feel like it's a like a ten or a twenty.
- 1:11:03SPEAKER_00: You ask for it's not no twenty is a Hamilton, I know that one.
- 1:11:06SPEAKER_00: Um I don't know.
- 1:11:08SPEAKER_00: I don't even know.
- 1:11:09SPEAKER_00: But point is he asked for one.
- 1:11:11SPEAKER_00: He says, I'll make uh so he uh the guy pulls one out and just tears it in your half, he goes, You can split it.
- 1:11:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and they get they get so angry they're like, well, and then they they rip their jumpsuits off and they got their police, their full police uniforms on underneath.
- 1:11:26SPEAKER_00: So they're they're they're now actual cops, and they are all the people run out, they go to arrest people, and then and then it's the end of the movie, but in the end credits, it's them partying with the stoners.
- 1:11:40SPEAKER_03: Wait, but first at the end of the movie, um, before like the credits roll, um, the same guy who ate the mushrooms and the weed in the beginning, when the party's getting broken up, he runs out of the basement naked, except for his boxers.
- 1:11:55SPEAKER_03: Yes, and he's like, I love acid.
- 1:11:59SPEAKER_03: And then like he looks and the cops are there, and he's like, Oh fuck, not again.
- 1:12:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you're right.
- 1:12:05SPEAKER_03: Okay, but those are some of like the most iconic end credits.
- 1:12:09SPEAKER_03: Like, I've really developed a new love for like end credits of movies that are super great, and like that's up there for me.
- 1:12:15SPEAKER_00: It's a great end credit.
- 1:12:18SPEAKER_00: Yes, because it not only does it like tie everything in, but it's just so funny as well.
- 1:12:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it was, it was hilarious.
- 1:12:26SPEAKER_03: I was like, Oh, I'm actually like enjoying this.
- 1:12:29SPEAKER_03: It was so good, just like top tier.
- 1:12:32SPEAKER_03: Like, if you want to get stoned or drunk and watch a movie, like super troopers is for you.
- 1:12:36SPEAKER_00: It's such a fun movie.
- 1:12:37SPEAKER_00: I don't get why people dislike it so much because even just as like a light comedy or whatever, it's it's well made.
- 1:12:45SPEAKER_00: Like, yeah, okay, it doesn't have much of a story going for it, but it's still everything in it is funny.
- 1:12:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and that's like the point of comedy.
- 1:12:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it doesn't like have to make sense.
- 1:12:56SPEAKER_03: Most things in comedy don't make sense, and that's why they're funny.
- 1:13:01SPEAKER_03: I totally agree.
- 1:13:02SPEAKER_00: And it still holds up, it still holds up watching it now, other than like the propaganda, but yes, and the weed things.
- 1:13:10SPEAKER_03: Like, I I wrote a note about that too, and I was like, it's crazy watching this now and seeing how much like the perception around weed has changed.
- 1:13:17SPEAKER_04: Oh, the perception is like, yeah.
- 1:13:18SPEAKER_03: And in Vermont, like they probably don't give a fuck about weed anymore, unless it's being like trafficked from Canada to Vermont or vice versa.
- 1:13:26SPEAKER_03: But like they're Vermont's got bigger problems.
- 1:13:28SPEAKER_03: I'm pretty sure they're part of like the opioid crisis in America, so it's like they have bigger shit to focus on now.
- 1:13:34SPEAKER_03: The government gave us all drugs that got us addicted, bro.
- 1:13:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:13:40SPEAKER_00: So let's talk about like what what you love about it then, like what makes it uh a good movie in your opinion.
- 1:13:47SPEAKER_00: Can you is it can you can you uh speak to it more than what we've already discussed?
- 1:13:52SPEAKER_03: Um yeah, I just like I think it's a really like quintessential comedy that doesn't really like it doesn't ask you to think too hard, it doesn't ask you to think too much, it just asks you to kind of like suspend your disbelief of reality and just be like, hey, enjoy this.
- 1:14:07SPEAKER_03: And that's why I love it because it's like it's simple, it's a simple pleasure, it's not something you have to like pay attention to the whole time.
- 1:14:14SPEAKER_03: But if you do pay attention, you'll catch all the smallest jokes and every single like little bit of like plants and payoffs that they have in there, which is like very worthwhile.
- 1:14:24SPEAKER_03: Um yeah, like they built so much into it, and like when if you actually watch it with like a comedy perspective and not a film perspective, you're like, this is great.
- 1:14:33SPEAKER_03: Like they are totally hitting all the marks they're supposed to.
- 1:14:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:14:36SPEAKER_00: I completely agree.
- 1:14:38SPEAKER_00: So I I just don't I don't get what people didn't like about it.
- 1:14:42SPEAKER_00: It's so I really don't it's one of the ones I really don't understand why it's so low.
- 1:14:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think it I think it was the weed to be honest.
- 1:14:50SPEAKER_03: I think it was a lot of like the times, and like who knows, maybe even people at that time were like, no, I still don't like cops.
- 1:14:58SPEAKER_03: Like it's possible.
- 1:14:59SPEAKER_03: They were like, I just don't want to see another cop movie.
- 1:15:01SPEAKER_03: Like, there were so many.
- 1:15:02SPEAKER_00: There were so many.
- 1:15:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, even around that time there were con the constant, I can think of so many cops like like com action comedies with cops in them.
- 1:15:11SPEAKER_03: So many.
- 1:15:12SPEAKER_03: And I'm like, why did we need all of these when we could have just had like a few good ones?
- 1:15:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but yeah, I think it's a great movie.
- 1:15:19SPEAKER_03: I think everyone should watch it.
- 1:15:20SPEAKER_03: Like, if you have a love for comedy, then like watch it because it's not gonna disappoint.
- 1:15:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I completely agree.
- 1:15:27SPEAKER_00: Do you have any final thoughts on that?
- 1:15:29SPEAKER_00: Uh you want to add to it?
- 1:15:30SPEAKER_00: Otherwise, we'll move on to the final segment.
- 1:15:32SPEAKER_03: No, I don't think so.
- 1:15:33SPEAKER_03: I'm just like really excited to have gotten to watch another thing with Brian Cox, and I may restart Succession.
- 1:15:39SPEAKER_00: That's probably a good shout, yeah.
- 1:15:42SPEAKER_00: Sorry guys.
- 1:15:42SPEAKER_03: That's my final thought.
- 1:15:43SPEAKER_00: I love Succession.
- 1:15:45SPEAKER_00: So anything with Brian Cox, I'm fully on board.
- 1:15:47SPEAKER_00: Have you seen um Adaptation?
- 1:15:50SPEAKER_03: I haven't.
- 1:15:50SPEAKER_03: What's that on?
- 1:15:52SPEAKER_00: Uh I don't know what what it's on.
- 1:15:54SPEAKER_00: It's uh it's a movie.
- 1:15:56SPEAKER_03: Oh, it's a movie.
- 1:15:57SPEAKER_03: Oh, okay.
- 1:15:57SPEAKER_00: I thought it was a show, sorry.
- 1:15:58SPEAKER_00: It's a Nicolas Cage movie, but it like Brian Cox has like one or two scenes in it, but he's so good in it and he just like he plays a real person in it, uh, who is like Do you know?
- 1:16:10SPEAKER_00: Um so there's a book on screenwriting that's like synonymous with screenwriting.
- 1:16:14SPEAKER_00: It's called um I think it's actually just called screenwriting.
- 1:16:16SPEAKER_00: I'm trying to look at it on my shelf now.
- 1:16:18SPEAKER_00: Um no, it's called Story.
- 1:16:21SPEAKER_00: Sorry, it's called Story, and it's like a book synonymous with screenwriting, and it's about um so he plays the author of that in it, and the author is just an arsehole, but he plays it like the Brian Cox way in this as well.
- 1:16:32SPEAKER_00: So it's so it's so worth like just watching that scene with him in it.
- 1:16:36SPEAKER_03: I probably will.
- 1:16:38SPEAKER_00: I definitely recommend looking up that because you can watch the scene out of context with the rest of the movie as well.
- 1:16:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so it's fine, it's so funny.
- 1:16:45SPEAKER_00: Um cool.
- 1:16:48SPEAKER_00: So let's discuss the final segment, which is do you have a the reverse of this, which is a movie that you consider to be terrible that everyone that the critics and people love?
- 1:16:59SPEAKER_03: Um, I you know which one was big that I really hated growing up was Shallow Hell.
- 1:17:05SPEAKER_03: I still hate it to this day.
- 1:17:06SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 1:17:07SPEAKER_03: Like, even though it's like a great comedic cast and great cast in general, I'm like, that movie's fucking stupid as hell.
- 1:17:14SPEAKER_03: Like, that is, and I get that that's the point of it, is that he's shallow, but I'm like, it it was so much of that like 2000s propaganda of how women should look and how women should be and stuff.
- 1:17:25SPEAKER_03: And so I was like, fuck that.
- 1:17:27SPEAKER_03: But I know like people universally love it.
- 1:17:28SPEAKER_03: I mean, that's a Jack Black film, right?
- 1:17:30SPEAKER_03: Isn't that who plays Shallow Hell?
- 1:17:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:17:32SPEAKER_03: So it's like it's good, it's good comedically, but I'm like, fuck that.
- 1:17:35SPEAKER_00: That's just that's one that really doesn't hold up, actually.
- 1:17:37SPEAKER_00: Speaking about comedy from around that time.
- 1:17:39SPEAKER_00: I think they came out the same year as well.
- 1:17:41SPEAKER_03: I think so too.
- 1:17:42SPEAKER_03: I think they were right around the same time, and it's like I don't I don't take too hard of a look at comedy movies, but when they start to go into making societal commentary, yeah, I think there's like a certain responsibility in there.
- 1:17:56SPEAKER_00: Yep, I completely agree with that.
- 1:17:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:17:59SPEAKER_03: Well, that's my movie.
- 1:18:00SPEAKER_03: I love Jack Black, but I cannot watch that.
- 1:18:03SPEAKER_00: Have you seen that only once?
- 1:18:04SPEAKER_00: Or have you seen it like Yeah, yeah.
- 1:18:06SPEAKER_00: No, only once.
- 1:18:07SPEAKER_03: I've seen everything I like at least five times, but I have not ever watched that a second time.
- 1:18:12SPEAKER_03: One was enough.
- 1:18:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:18:13SPEAKER_00: I actually I I wanted to ask, what is your favorite stoner comedy then?
- 1:18:17SPEAKER_00: Is it this?
- 1:18:18SPEAKER_03: Um no, no, no, no.
- 1:18:21SPEAKER_03: Probably Pineapple Express or This is the end.
- 1:18:23SPEAKER_00: Oh, those are great.
- 1:18:24SPEAKER_00: Those are so good.
- 1:18:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I huge Seth Rogan fan, like love his stoner comedy style where it's very like rooted in reality.
- 1:18:32SPEAKER_03: Like it's it's like these silly situations that stoners get themselves into and like even super bad.
- 1:18:37SPEAKER_03: Like, I just I love those kind of stoner comedies.
- 1:18:41SPEAKER_03: So good.
- 1:18:42SPEAKER_03: And like, I don't know, the new ones when they're like trying to make comedies and they're trying to make women smoke weed in them and look normal.
- 1:18:48SPEAKER_03: I'm like, this feels so forced.
- 1:18:53SPEAKER_00: Which ones are you talking about now?
- 1:18:54SPEAKER_00: Like from recent um trying to think.
- 1:18:59SPEAKER_03: Like, there was uh there was that what was that?
- 1:19:01SPEAKER_03: Was that Netflix original with like Gina Rodriguez and Brittany Snow and the girl who plays Nola Darling and the reboot of um She's Gotta Habit?
- 1:19:10SPEAKER_03: I can't remember her name, but I am in love with her.
- 1:19:12SPEAKER_03: I do know her name.
- 1:19:13SPEAKER_03: It's like uh I don't know.
- 1:19:16SPEAKER_03: But um, like that movie, and like um, there's this one that I really like called the Visa Love Drunk.
- 1:19:21SPEAKER_03: It's also like a Netflix original, I think, with uh the girl from like love and some other things.
- 1:19:27SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:19:28SPEAKER_03: Uh I've seen Phoebe, I think, from Two Dope Queens.
- 1:19:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and like, and then uh Vanessa Bayer.
- 1:19:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:19:34SPEAKER_03: And like that's really great, but like the way like that one's kind of funny.
- 1:19:37SPEAKER_03: They use weed a little bit funny, like the One Girl's a super stoner, but it's like even when they don't depict stoner women, it's so like that's all they do, and that's all they think about.
- 1:19:46SPEAKER_03: It's like it's like that's not true, they just love to smoke weed.
