- 0:47Welcome to the Becker's Healthcare podcast.
- 0:49I'm Elizabeth Gregersen, a reporter here at Becker's,
- 0:52and I'm thrilled to interview Elizabeth Sailor, the
- 0:56chief executive officer of Phoenix Heart, Vein, and
- 0:59Vascular on the podcast today.
- 1:02Elizabeth, thank you so much for joining me.
- 1:03I'm so grateful to share your insights, with
- 1:05our podcast audience.
- 1:08Thank you for having me. Glad to be
- 1:10here.
- 1:11Great. So, yeah, before I kinda dive into
- 1:13all my questions,
- 1:15could you take a
- 1:16bit here to introduce yourself and tell us
- 1:19a little bit about your organization?
- 1:21Yes. So as mentioned, I am Elizabeth Sailor.
- 1:25I'm the chief executive officer here at Phoenix
- 1:27Heart Vein and Vascular.
- 1:30We are a private physician group. We've been
- 1:33serving the Phoenix area for about forty five
- 1:36years.
- 1:37Over that time, they've been really focused on
- 1:40building long term relationships
- 1:41with our patients
- 1:43as well as the local hospitals.
- 1:48We're very, very proud. We've been voted number
- 1:50one in the greater Phoenix area for many,
- 1:52many years.
- 1:55We have three main locations,
- 1:57Glendale,
- 1:58Avondale,
- 1:59and Scottsdale, and then we have four satellite
- 2:02offices.
- 2:03Our three main locations
- 2:05are,
- 2:07they all have in house
- 2:09testing, so we're very proud of that.
- 2:13One thing that sets us apart is that,
- 2:15again, we provide comprehensive
- 2:17cardiology,
- 2:19entirely in house
- 2:21from vein care to office based labs to
- 2:24our own ambulatory surgical center
- 2:26called Phase.
- 2:29We do invest in state of the art
- 2:30technologies,
- 2:32and we are really focused.
- 2:34Even though that we invest in that, we
- 2:36really do try to keep our,
- 2:38costs and care efficient and effective.
- 2:42And then at the end of the day,
- 2:43we're really about, you know, delivering really high
- 2:46quality treatment
- 2:47so patients feel supported and cared for.
- 2:50Patients is the most important thing for our
- 2:53our group.
- 2:56Perfect. Well, I'm so excited to kinda share
- 2:58your perspective on on how you're navigating
- 3:00the industry today.
- 3:02We're speaking just a little bit after the
- 3:04New Year.
- 3:05But before we look ahead, I'd love to
- 3:07kind of look back and learn about maybe
- 3:10the most important initiative
- 3:12or program you've led in the last year,
- 3:15what it took to make that happen, and
- 3:17maybe what were some of the results.
- 3:19Sure.
- 3:21In 2025,
- 3:23one of the
- 3:24important initiatives that we had
- 3:27was
- 3:28patient access.
- 3:30We do have other competitors in the area,
- 3:32but
- 3:33not on the West Side.
- 3:35So earlier in 2025,
- 3:38we added two new locations. We added a
- 3:40Buckeye location.
- 3:43If you're not familiar with the Phoenix area,
- 3:46that area is growing like crazy,
- 3:49and the access to cardiology just was not
- 3:51there.
- 3:52And then we expanded into our Avondale location
- 3:55where we put
- 3:57testing and those types of things within in
- 3:59that location,
- 4:01which helps us reach more patients and reduce
- 4:03their wait times. So that was big for
- 4:05us.
- 4:08From there, we really turned our attention to
- 4:11how can we really improve our service lines
- 4:14while keeping care affordable.
- 4:16And then we started investing in better phone
- 4:19systems,
- 4:20so patients can reach a real time person
- 4:22rather than always an automated menu. So we
- 4:25were really trying to focus on that patient
- 4:27centric care
- 4:28and then customer good customer service.
- 4:32It was important to us and those in
- 4:34the past had been a lot of complaints
- 4:36from our
- 4:37our patients.
- 4:39And
- 4:40I would say it was about
- 4:42October, November time frame.
- 4:45We started having patients in the, the wait
- 4:48areas
- 4:50actually telling our physicians and our front staff
- 4:53how much we've improved. So we
- 4:55it's exciting for us. We we had it
- 4:57straight from the patients telling us that they
- 4:59can tell that we've worked really hard on
- 5:01those things. So
- 5:03it's great.
- 5:04Perfect. Yeah. It sounds like, you know, opening
- 5:07those locations
- 5:08helps with access, but even just a phone
- 5:10system. Right? I say just, but
- 5:13it's another tool, right, to help patients get
- 5:15the care that they they need and that
- 5:17they want.
- 5:18When you kind of turn in the other
- 5:20direction and look ahead, what are some of
- 5:23the bigger priorities
- 5:24or headwinds that you're focused on tackling in
- 5:282026?
- 5:30One of our main priorities
- 5:32is expanding our ambulatory surgical center
- 5:35called Phase.
- 5:36The goal here is we really wanna reduce
- 5:39that wait time so we can get patients
- 5:41in sooner so they can get the procedures
- 5:44that they need. Again, we partner with local
- 5:46hospitals.
- 5:47But to keep their cost low, we really
- 5:50wanna get them into our
- 5:52our ambulatory surgical center.
- 5:57One thing by growing that side too, it
- 5:59it keeps our practice,
- 6:01again, cost effective.
- 6:03It's good care coordination.
- 6:06And then we're still wanting to give them
- 6:08that high
- 6:09quality treatment
- 6:11without delays.
- 6:14Perfect. I think that's,
- 6:16something a lot of our listeners will be
- 6:18able to relate to, something that they're focused
- 6:20on in the coming year.
- 6:22Do you anticipate
- 6:23maybe
- 6:25one
- 6:26hard thing or one bigger challenge that you're
- 6:29gonna have to undertake
- 6:31in the coming year?
- 6:33I wouldn't say it's the hardest thing that
- 6:35we're gonna face, but I would say it's
- 6:37going to be a challenge.
- 6:39It's going to be really keeping those costs
- 6:41low and still keeping high level of care.
- 6:44As we all know, costs tend to keep
- 6:47going up.
- 6:49At the same time, there's so many constant
- 6:52change within health care.
- 6:54So it feels like there's always something new
- 6:56daily, whether it's regulations, reimbursement,
- 7:00technology.
- 7:01So really trying to adapt to those changes
- 7:04as quickly as we can. So keeping
- 7:06staff on their toes.
- 7:09Yeah.
- 7:10Absolutely. When you talk about kind of adapting
- 7:12to those changes and and technology and innovation
- 7:15and
- 7:16where do you kind of see some of
- 7:18the best opportunities
- 7:19for organizational
- 7:20growth?
- 7:23I think the demand for cardiovascular
- 7:25care is going to continue to grow.
- 7:27So
- 7:29we really wanna get those patients in sooner
- 7:31and move them through a really smooth
- 7:34care treatment, whether that means partnering with other
- 7:38organizations
- 7:39and things such as metabolic care
- 7:42or
- 7:43working with their PCPs,
- 7:47podiatry, those types of things.
- 7:50I think that's gonna be one area
- 7:53of growth.
- 7:54Another one, again, as I've mentioned earlier, will
- 7:56be our ambulatory surgical center. I think that's
- 7:59a key
- 8:00to our in house services so we can
- 8:02continue to grow.
- 8:05One of the things that
- 8:07we will be able to look towards this
- 8:10year
- 8:11is can we do ablations
- 8:13in house? So that will be
- 8:15that would be an exciting new growth opportunity.
- 8:20And then we're gonna continue to invest in
- 8:22things such as technology and, you know, those
- 8:25smaller improvements that can still make big impact
- 8:27on how we operate.
- 8:29So not only for the staff, but for
- 8:31the patients.
- 8:34Absolutely.
- 8:35Yeah. And I I feel like so so
- 8:38much of what you hit on with, you
- 8:39know, metabolic care and ablation,
- 8:42those are all kind of keywords that I've
- 8:44seen come up, you know, in Becca's coverage
- 8:46over the past six months. So,
- 8:48I'm excited to see, you know, how Phoenix
- 8:50Heart Vein and Vascular
- 8:52navigate,
- 8:53those opportunities, and I I hope we can
- 8:55connect again to see how things are going.
- 8:58Absolutely.
- 9:00Well, great. Thank you so much for joining
- 9:02me on the podcast today. I think it's
- 9:04been a great conversation
- 9:06giving a little insight to our listeners on
- 9:09what's happening in Phoenix and and cardiology.
- 9:13I just wanna thank you again for your
- 9:15time and your insight.
