- 0:02Speaker 1: Some of the content of Patriots Unfiltered may not be
- 0:04Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised. Welcome to
- 0:11Speaker 1: Patriot's Unfiltered. Oh, back to school, back toy school? Those
- 0:20Speaker 1: who begin sentences with so incorrect? How do we need
- 0:26Speaker 1: that incorrect? So has a specific meaning, right, not for
- 0:29Speaker 1: the beginning of every sentence. No, the noun is resiliency.
- 0:32Speaker 1: The noun is resiliency. Yeah, what are your thoughts on
- 0:34Speaker 1: eight a word? The only time you should use it
- 0:37Speaker 1: in print is in a quote. There's a there's a
- 0:39Speaker 1: phrase that I've always sort of wondered about, you know,
- 0:42Speaker 1: when you said he's a friend of mine. Oh, if
- 0:45Speaker 1: you say he's a friend of Eric, Yes, isn't that proper?
- 0:48Speaker 1: Isn't a friend of Eric's redundant? If he belongs to Eric.
- 0:50Speaker 1: That's what the of means. It's possessive grammar, deep diving. Yes,
- 0:53Speaker 1: ap parolo English. And that was quite a shot right there, right,
- 0:58Speaker 1: Like what, I'm not capable of teaching any class. I know,
- 1:00Speaker 1: you just got on a blog and just wrote on
- 1:02Speaker 1: your own. Some of us had to go to college
- 1:04Speaker 1: and learn how to do it. Leitism. This is Patriot's unfiltered,
- 1:10Speaker 1: fueled by Duncan. It's gonna put it out there right now.
- 1:16Speaker 1: We're gonna need your help today. Okay, Yep, we're gonna
- 1:19Speaker 1: We're gonna need a little help from the listeners. I
- 1:21Speaker 1: want to apologie. Paul will be getting into any arguments
- 1:24Speaker 1: with Fred or Mike. Nope, because neither of them. They've
- 1:27Speaker 1: they've both big timed us this week, largely because neither
- 1:30Speaker 1: is here. Yeah. Um so I'm Eric Skalavino. That's Paul Perillo,
- 1:34Speaker 1: and that's the show. And there you go, folks. We
- 1:37Speaker 1: will see you on Thursday. Now. Matt Morrell is producing
- 1:40Speaker 1: as always behind the glass. But we're running a little
- 1:43Speaker 1: lean today, just not not like us normally, especially with
- 1:48Speaker 1: like you know, this big lead up to the draft
- 1:51Speaker 1: and all the stuff we were talking about just a
- 1:53Speaker 1: little while ago in a inter office meeting there with
- 1:57Speaker 1: the players becoming available, off season program getting underway next week,
- 2:03Speaker 1: the draft coming up shortly thereafter. I'm already tired, Paul,
- 2:10Speaker 1: just thinking about I'm just from carrying the show. No,
- 2:13Speaker 1: my back's still fine. I got those one of those
- 2:15Speaker 1: weightlifting belts. You know, you got to keep that keep
- 2:18Speaker 1: the right posture. But Um started to be some activists
- 2:24Speaker 1: you know, around the stadium. Next week is kind of
- 2:27Speaker 1: the unofficial start of the off season program. You know,
- 2:31Speaker 1: there's been some work going on individually with players having injured,
- 2:36Speaker 1: players rehaving, but next week I believe is the start
- 2:40Speaker 1: of the time frame that Patriots players can start to
- 2:43Speaker 1: come back to the facility officially start working out Phase one.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Phase two you get into the OTAs and we will
- 2:50Speaker 1: have some access to OTA's coming up later next month.
- 2:55Speaker 1: So that's still a ways off, but the Draft is
- 2:58Speaker 1: around the corner, Eric, just a little over two weeks away. Yeah. Um.
- 3:02Speaker 1: On Friday, we will have a press conference a video
- 3:06Speaker 1: conference to be precise, with the new director of player
- 3:11Speaker 1: Personnel Personnel est personnel. Uh. So we will get a
- 3:15Speaker 1: chance to speak with Matt. Well, you guys will because
- 3:17Speaker 1: Mike and I will be us on vacation now I
- 3:21Speaker 1: will be on vacation, uh starting on Thursday. But we
- 3:26Speaker 1: will have some interaction with players and coaches and personnel
- 3:31Speaker 1: and the days leading up to the draft, and then
- 3:34Speaker 1: obviously we'll have a lot of stuff for you come
- 3:36Speaker 1: draft weekend. Yeah. Uh. Since our last show, I don't
- 3:41Speaker 1: recall seeing much in the way of groundbreaking major news
- 3:46Speaker 1: announcements around this team. Have you no? So that's where
- 3:51Speaker 1: we are with that. Um? Yeah, I even haven't had
- 3:54Speaker 1: a lot even around the NFL. It's been a little
- 3:56Speaker 1: quiet um the last few days. I mean there was
- 3:59Speaker 1: there was the big I'd say probably the biggest news
- 4:01Speaker 1: was the tragic uh news of of Dwayne Haskins death.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Did you at all see? Like to me, I I
- 4:11Speaker 1: just heard at first that you know, Dwayne Haskins sort
- 4:15Speaker 1: of a news headline dayne Haskins did it? What it
- 4:17Speaker 1: was the twenty four something like it? And my mind
- 4:21Speaker 1: immediately like I didn't see any other details. It was
- 4:23Speaker 1: just like an announcement on my phone news alert that
- 4:26Speaker 1: came through, and I'm like, what the hell happened? So
- 4:29Speaker 1: my mind is racing with all this stuff. And then
- 4:30Speaker 1: I heard that he got hit by a car down
- 4:33Speaker 1: down in Florida, actually a dump truck. I believe. Wow.
- 4:39Speaker 1: I mean you don't normally hear what was what was
- 4:43Speaker 1: the problems going on? What was going on? Yeah? Obviously
- 4:46Speaker 1: tragic twenty four year old. Um. It's rare when you
- 4:50Speaker 1: find um so many people to speak so glowingly about
- 4:55Speaker 1: an individual and you know, his teammates in Pittsburgh and Washington, UM,
- 5:01Speaker 1: you know, some of which were really I mean, Chase
- 5:03Speaker 1: Claypool was really affected by it. Um. It's tragic to
- 5:08Speaker 1: lose somebody that young, with a whole life in front
- 5:10Speaker 1: of them, and you know, football aside, who cares. But
- 5:14Speaker 1: you know, just to have life taken away like that
- 5:18Speaker 1: is obviously, you know, just tragic. And you know, we
- 5:22Speaker 1: throw that word around a lot, and sometimes these things
- 5:24Speaker 1: aren't tragedies sometimes there you know, so that this one
- 5:27Speaker 1: really seems to be a tragedy. And there was a
- 5:31Speaker 1: little bit of a kerfuffle over the weekend with the
- 5:35Speaker 1: news of the the death. I think it was first,
- 5:42Speaker 1: I think Haskin's agent informed Adam Schefter, whose original tweet
- 5:47Speaker 1: was something along the lines of former standout at Ohio
- 5:52Speaker 1: State who failed to catch on in Washington in Pittsburgh
- 5:56Speaker 1: has died, according to his agent, and explained how people
- 6:00Speaker 1: didn't like that. Got very upset. The got very upset
- 6:04Speaker 1: that Adam Schefter would take the time of his death
- 6:07Speaker 1: to include his details of his you know, quote unquote
- 6:11Speaker 1: failed NFL career, UM, which I would totally agree. I
- 6:16Speaker 1: think it's in poor taste. I don't think there's any need,
- 6:18Speaker 1: like what, it didn't help your tweet, It didn't aid
- 6:20Speaker 1: your tweet. Certainly seemed like you kind of went out
- 6:23Speaker 1: of your way to say, well he's been a bust. Yeah, right,
- 6:27Speaker 1: Like why now do I think it was anywhere near
- 6:34Speaker 1: the reaction, you know, worthy of the reaction that it got. No,
- 6:38Speaker 1: I mean the guy, I think I think it was,
- 6:42Speaker 1: like I said, in poor taste. I don't think it
- 6:44Speaker 1: was necessary at all. I would certainly agree with everyone
- 6:48Speaker 1: who says, what are you doing, Adam Schefter? But like
- 6:52Speaker 1: my god, the pitch folks were out. He had to
- 6:55Speaker 1: retract it. Um offered it an apology certainly seemed like
- 6:58Speaker 1: a pretty heartfelt apology. But nonetheless, you know, um, I'm
- 7:03Speaker 1: not sure that you know it was he was guilty
- 7:05Speaker 1: of a war crime or anything, but these are these
- 7:08Speaker 1: are the times now. The one that was really tough
- 7:11Speaker 1: to to listen to was was Gil Brandt, who was
- 7:15Speaker 1: on a podcast and asked about it and was very
- 7:18Speaker 1: critical of Haskins. This one, I'm gonna say, Okay, this
- 7:24Speaker 1: was the same day Saturday. Um what he said, UM was,
- 7:28Speaker 1: I mean, I think horrific. I mean, he basically I
- 7:31Speaker 1: think the phrase he used he lived to die. He
- 7:36Speaker 1: in other words, the lifestyle he led was this was
- 7:38Speaker 1: inevitable like and by the way, everybody else that talked
- 7:42Speaker 1: about this was sort of talking about the opposite, like
- 7:45Speaker 1: a guy couldn't do enough for charity, was reading to
- 7:48Speaker 1: kids at schools um really you know, sort of ingratiating
- 7:53Speaker 1: himself in the fabric or the community in Pittsburgh. And
- 7:56Speaker 1: it was actually he was actually in Florida at workouts
- 8:00Speaker 1: much like mac Jones. He's at workouts with Pittsburgh and
- 8:03Speaker 1: with Mitchell Rubisky and throwing to the receivers like Claypool.
- 8:06Speaker 1: I had mentioned, Yeah, you know, and gil Brandt comes
- 8:10Speaker 1: out with this really bizarre kind of well, you know,
- 8:13Speaker 1: you kind of get what you you know, that's that's
- 8:15Speaker 1: what you get when you live that kind of life.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Was basically he left school early when everybody told him
- 8:19Speaker 1: not to. And that's basically his He connected the two.
- 8:22Speaker 1: He'd be alive today if he didn't leave school early.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Now he's comment is maybe if he stayed in school
- 8:27Speaker 1: a year, he wouldn't do silly things like jogging on
- 8:30Speaker 1: the highway. Right now, here's what I would say about that.
- 8:34Speaker 1: That to me, is far more offensive than anything Adam
- 8:36Speaker 1: Schefter did. However, the guy's ninety years old, like from
- 8:43Speaker 1: a different time. Well, just who knows where he's coming from.
- 8:47Speaker 1: He's ninety. Yeah, I don't even know if you know,
- 8:49Speaker 1: maybe he doesn't even have his faculty. I don't know.
- 8:52Speaker 1: It could be anything again, despicable comments, but that was.
- 8:56Speaker 1: That was kind of what happened over the weekend in
- 8:59Speaker 1: relationship into the Haskins situation and Ohio State plans to
- 9:02Speaker 1: honor him at their spring game. Mike Tom when you know,
- 9:07Speaker 1: was was was moved. You know, now I'm looking at
- 9:10Speaker 1: the TV. He gets some stuff with Cam Newton, by
- 9:12Speaker 1: the way, which far more offensive than anything that happened
- 9:14Speaker 1: over the weekend with Gil branch Or Adam Schefter. Was
- 9:17Speaker 1: this guy in in nineteen thirty eight talking about women
- 9:21Speaker 1: Cam Newton? Yeah, um, but you know, we'll get to
- 9:24Speaker 1: that in a minute, I guess. Yeah. Um. So yeah,
- 9:27Speaker 1: that was that was just sort of jarring news to
- 9:30Speaker 1: get over the weekend because you know, yeah, when you
- 9:33Speaker 1: when I thought of Dwayne Haskins before that, I always
- 9:37Speaker 1: remember the you know, the guy who it was, I
- 9:40Speaker 1: think it was when he was with Washington and it
- 9:41Speaker 1: was celebrating the end of of a of a game
- 9:44Speaker 1: and went over to a fan and was taking pictures
- 9:46Speaker 1: and they needed him to go back in the game
- 9:48Speaker 1: or something like there was. I think that helped lead
- 9:50Speaker 1: to his, you know, getting getting booted out of Washington,
- 9:54Speaker 1: if if my memory's right. But um, you know, guys
- 10:01Speaker 1: have there have been plenty of examples of guys who've
- 10:04Speaker 1: been great college players and for whatever reason, it didn't
- 10:08Speaker 1: work out much in the pros. Like he was the
- 10:11Speaker 1: first round pick right with Washington. It's not it's not
- 10:17Speaker 1: like it's not like he's the only guy who's ever
- 10:20Speaker 1: you know, not lived up to expectation. And I know
- 10:23Speaker 1: he had a thing. Um toward the end of his
- 10:26Speaker 1: tenure in Washington, there was some situation where after a
- 10:29Speaker 1: game as part of his birthday, I think he was
- 10:33Speaker 1: out late night on a Sunday night after the game
- 10:36Speaker 1: at a gentleman's club. You know, that caused some But
- 10:40Speaker 1: as far as I know, that's like the worst thing
- 10:42Speaker 1: that I've read about Dwayne Haskins. And frankly, that ain't
- 10:46Speaker 1: all that bad. Yeah, um, no that I know of. Again,
- 10:49Speaker 1: I'm no expert on Dwayne Haskins, But I don't know
- 10:51Speaker 1: of any off field incidents in terms of legal troubles,
- 10:56Speaker 1: problems you know with women, violence with women, and he
- 10:58Speaker 1: kind of do you want. I've heard nothing, nothing bad
- 11:02Speaker 1: like the certainly nothing like the Watson. I've heard nothing
- 11:05Speaker 1: bad about Dwayne Haskins. So for like, you know, for
- 11:09Speaker 1: Gil Brandt to like say, well, you know, everybody told
- 11:11Speaker 1: him he should stay in school because he didn't have
- 11:13Speaker 1: the work ethic and then he left, like and then
- 11:16Speaker 1: who who cares about this? Like? He was invited to
- 11:19Speaker 1: the draft and he turned it down because he hosted
- 11:22Speaker 1: his own draft party at a bowling alley that he
- 11:24Speaker 1: charged fifty dollars to get it was that for charity
- 11:28Speaker 1: or just the problem? Yeah? Who cares? Like he decided
- 11:31Speaker 1: not to go to the NFL's draft. Yeah, so he
- 11:33Speaker 1: could host his own party on his own and you
- 11:36Speaker 1: didn't like it? Yeah, like yeah, like some slack right,
- 11:42Speaker 1: But anyway, that's that was That was to me the
- 11:44Speaker 1: big headline over the weekend. It was just like, you
- 11:46Speaker 1: don't expect to hear like a young person like that dying,
- 11:50Speaker 1: so like, and I didn't know the details, even my
- 11:52Speaker 1: kids who were kind of unaffected by anything. We're like, wow,
- 11:55Speaker 1: he's like twenty four years old, because well he's not
- 11:57Speaker 1: too much older than that, will see, right, He was
- 11:59Speaker 1: like wow, he's twenty four years old. Yeah, that kind
- 12:02Speaker 1: of stuff goes through your mind. Now he was I guess,
- 12:05Speaker 1: would you say Maddie was jogging on the highway, Yeah,
- 12:09Speaker 1: the state by Fort lauder I think in Fort Lauderdale,
- 12:13Speaker 1: if I'm not mistaken. But can you I mean, like,
- 12:18Speaker 1: I don't know, there's a lot of reasons that you
- 12:20Speaker 1: could come up about, Like I don't see too many
- 12:23Speaker 1: people jogging on interstates. No, maybe it was was it
- 12:27Speaker 1: early in the morning, like when there was like very
- 12:29Speaker 1: light traffic, or maybe it was was it dark out.
- 12:32Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know what could have caused it,
- 12:34Speaker 1: but it's just all these things run through your mind
- 12:37Speaker 1: and you're just like wow, I mean, just how quickly
- 12:40Speaker 1: how you know, don't mean to get soccer in here,
- 12:43Speaker 1: but how precious it is. You know every day you
- 12:46Speaker 1: can't take anything for granted. I mean, I'm sure he
- 12:48Speaker 1: didn't wake up that morning thinking that that was going
- 12:50Speaker 1: to be it. Um, I don't know. So sorry to
- 12:54Speaker 1: bring everybody down, but that was the big that was
- 12:57Speaker 1: the big NFL news that that transpired over the weekend.
- 13:00Speaker 1: I thought just minor Patriots related thing. I thought I
- 13:04Speaker 1: heard somebody say this morning that Brandon King correct waved
- 13:07Speaker 1: goodbye to the funds of New England side with Indianapolis.
- 13:10Speaker 1: So he's going up to Lucas Oil over there, So
- 13:13Speaker 1: bye bye Brandon, Glenn. We got that story in before
- 13:15Speaker 1: he left, So that was that was crossed the way
- 13:19Speaker 1: and you able the fifth bump to the fan. Thanks
- 13:22Speaker 1: Brandon for your service both on and off the field. UM.
- 13:25Speaker 1: But yeah, otherwise, very light. We've got. We welcome any
- 13:29Speaker 1: and all games in this show today, especially today, we're
- 13:31Speaker 1: gonna need, you know, we're gonna need a little entertainment
- 13:34Speaker 1: to help everybody out. UM eight five Pats five hundred
- 13:38Speaker 1: the usual phone number to give us a call web
- 13:40Speaker 1: radio at Patriots dot com. Um, baseball, are you happy
- 13:46Speaker 1: that baseball started again? I know you're a baseball and
- 13:51Speaker 1: is typically the case. I watched much of the opening
- 13:54Speaker 1: day game and that was about it. I haven't seen
- 13:56Speaker 1: a lot since. I did watch a little of the
- 13:57Speaker 1: game yesterday for the Red Sox. UM haven't been hitting
- 14:00Speaker 1: at all, but yeah, it's good to have baseball back.
- 14:03Speaker 1: I think, you know, the more sports that are going
- 14:06Speaker 1: on and uh vibrant, I would say, the better it
- 14:09Speaker 1: is for those of us that are in the sports
- 14:11Speaker 1: media business. Yeah. Uh and I did. Uh. I was
- 14:14Speaker 1: at a little palm Sunday gathering with some people from
- 14:19Speaker 1: church over the weekend and they had they had the
- 14:21Speaker 1: TV on and the Masters, so we got to see
- 14:24Speaker 1: a little bit of the Sunday water over the weekend. Yeah.
- 14:28Speaker 1: He looked like he was pretty rough shape by the
- 14:32Speaker 1: end there. Yeah, he was walking off. Yeah. I thought
- 14:34Speaker 1: with every bowlgee, the grimaces got a little bit, you know. Yeah, yeah, Um,
- 14:41Speaker 1: I listen. I enjoy Tiger. I root for him to
- 14:46Speaker 1: be um contending in every event, especially the majors. I don't, however,
- 14:55Speaker 1: subscribe to the Oh what a miracle it was that
- 14:58Speaker 1: he even participated it. Like he had a horrific injury
- 15:01Speaker 1: that was self inflicted by the way, when that fourteen
- 15:05Speaker 1: months ago. Uh, and he came back from it and
- 15:09Speaker 1: he played in a tournament um and clearly wasn't ready
- 15:12Speaker 1: to play in it and didn't play well, Like he
- 15:17Speaker 1: had one decent rounds on on the opening day, and
- 15:19Speaker 1: then he was over par every day after that, um,
- 15:24Speaker 1: which makes sense, Like he hasn't played competitive golf in
- 15:27Speaker 1: fourteen months. It's a significant injury that he's trying to
- 15:31Speaker 1: come back from. So I'm sure the pain and discomfort
- 15:33Speaker 1: intensified as the weekend went on. But my god, you'd
- 15:36Speaker 1: think that he, you know, was a war hero coming
- 15:40Speaker 1: back the way that it was covered. Am I right? Matt?
- 15:43Speaker 1: Did you watch? I watched pretty much all weekend. He
- 15:45Speaker 1: was in the featured group on the website all week
- 15:47Speaker 1: and listen, well, that's what people want to see. I
- 15:50Speaker 1: want it. I mean I would rather have watched that
- 15:52Speaker 1: than than you know, say the the second or third
- 15:58Speaker 1: groups that aren't And you know, obviously Heffler was leading,
- 16:01Speaker 1: so I want to see him. But I didn't really
- 16:04Speaker 1: need to see as much of say like Charles Swart
- 16:08Speaker 1: Schwartzel as I saw all weekend because he happened to
- 16:11Speaker 1: be on the periphery of contention. You know, it was
- 16:15Speaker 1: kind of cool the last day. Uh, McElroy and Morikawa
- 16:18Speaker 1: who both played really well. McIlroy was unbelievable on Sunday
- 16:21Speaker 1: eight under um, yeah, show me those shots instead of Tiger,
- 16:25Speaker 1: which they didn't show a lot of Tiger on Sunday. Um,
- 16:28Speaker 1: but let's just pump the brakes on. You know what
- 16:32Speaker 1: a miracle it is that he would And I don't
- 16:34Speaker 1: know if you heard this one, Matt, and I know
- 16:36Speaker 1: this is my buddy Felger has been all over this,
- 16:37Speaker 1: and I certainly would not go to the extremes that Mike.
- 16:41Speaker 1: I rarely go to the extremes that Mike does on anything.
- 16:44Speaker 1: But I don't know if you've heard that the Master's
- 16:46Speaker 1: tough course to walk. I heard that. I mean he golfed. Okay,
- 16:55Speaker 1: I golfed on Sunday, and I would you know with
- 16:59Speaker 1: the fifty mile our winds that was smacking me in
- 17:01Speaker 1: the face, and every one of my my drives, by
- 17:03Speaker 1: the way, every shot was into the wind. I don't
- 17:05Speaker 1: know how that works. I don't know how we never
- 17:07Speaker 1: changed directions once. I didn't have one shot the wind
- 17:10Speaker 1: out for you, That's why. Yeah. But in all seriousness, um,
- 17:14Speaker 1: it was great to see Tiger back out there. I
- 17:16Speaker 1: just thought that the fawning was a little bit, a
- 17:18Speaker 1: little bit much expected though no expected. It's like this
- 17:21Speaker 1: is like a full sports reset here, basically back the Masters.
- 17:24Speaker 1: But it's the offseason. Polie we gotta do it. We
- 17:27Speaker 1: gotta we gotta talk about stuff. Your your basketball's over
- 17:29Speaker 1: with you know, I know, I know I and I
- 17:32Speaker 1: did tell you off air got a chance to take
- 17:35Speaker 1: into play on Friday Nightems, Yes you did. I was
- 17:38Speaker 1: very I was very impressed at the opera house. I
- 17:40Speaker 1: saw to Kill a mocking Bird. It was very good,
- 17:43Speaker 1: very good. And you even had some star power in
- 17:45Speaker 1: the show, No, Richard Thomas. Yeah, I mean I I
- 17:48Speaker 1: you know, it wasn't really all that much star power
- 17:50Speaker 1: for me, but everybody, everybody else knew that. He was
- 17:52Speaker 1: like in the Waltons. I'm like, I never saw the Waltons,
- 17:55Speaker 1: so really, yeah, is he John Boy? Yeah? Uh so yeah,
- 18:00Speaker 1: he was Atticus Mansion. He was really really good. It
- 18:02Speaker 1: was It was a fun night. He had a fun night.
- 18:04Speaker 1: And at the same time that the Frozen four was
- 18:07Speaker 1: going on in the NCAA hockey is it was in
- 18:09Speaker 1: Boston this weekend and never heard anything about that on
- 18:12Speaker 1: the news. It was cool while because they were all
- 18:14Speaker 1: Western teams in it. It was Denver, Michigan, Minnesota, State
- 18:17Speaker 1: in Minnesota, and the amount of Minta sweatshirts in golf,
- 18:23Speaker 1: I mean hockey sweaters that you saw walking around Boston
- 18:26Speaker 1: was amazing Friday night. I love that term hockey sweater sweater.
- 18:31Speaker 1: I mean, I'm a sweater guy, but I don't wear
- 18:32Speaker 1: a hockey sweater. Yeah, they're a little, a little different
- 18:35Speaker 1: kind of sweater. Um. Yeah, so you got a little
- 18:38Speaker 1: culture in you this weekend. Yeah, I you know, I
- 18:41Speaker 1: enjoy I usually go once or twice a year to
- 18:44Speaker 1: a musical or a play of some sort. And I'm
- 18:47Speaker 1: not just totally and not not one hundred percent sports
- 18:51Speaker 1: all the time, no, maybe point nine, but yeah, last
- 18:55Speaker 1: week I saw it, Dear Evan Hanson. Hanson, It's uh,
- 19:02Speaker 1: it's ultimately an uplifting message, but the theme of the
- 19:06Speaker 1: show is about a teenage suicide. So nothing, you know,
- 19:10Speaker 1: nothing says uplifting like a suit. However, tomorrow night, Paul,
- 19:13Speaker 1: I'm going to see the Temptation Show. Ain't too proud.
- 19:18Speaker 1: I know you. I know you like exactly And that
- 19:20Speaker 1: was definitely something that Beth and I had talked about
- 19:23Speaker 1: checking out as well. Yeah, so uh, we got to
- 19:26Speaker 1: amuse ourselves this time of year. Guy, that's the times short,
- 19:31Speaker 1: because before we know what, we're gonna be out there watching.
- 19:34Speaker 1: Like you said, earlier OTAs mini camp, then we got
- 19:38Speaker 1: the little brief break and then training camp. I don't
- 19:40Speaker 1: want to don't mean to rush it by any means,
- 19:42Speaker 1: believe me, but it's going by quick. Um. The other
- 19:46Speaker 1: thing we are gonna jump on from last show that
- 19:49Speaker 1: still has legs according to us some people who are
- 19:51Speaker 1: grammar police, the grammar police still. So if you have
- 19:54Speaker 1: any pet peeves about grammar, like we were talking about
- 19:56Speaker 1: the other day, people are still writing in like Burt
- 19:58Speaker 1: from Burton Island, he's got three grammar items, three grammar.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Most of my life around these parts, we've said I'm
- 20:04Speaker 1: going to the prom Uh. Suddenly that is correct. Suddenly.
- 20:09Speaker 1: I guess we're becoming British as it's often now I'm
- 20:12Speaker 1: going to prom Yeah, And I think that's different parts
- 20:15Speaker 1: of the country do that. I think there are different
- 20:18Speaker 1: ways to say that. We definitely say that, right, yeah,
- 20:22Speaker 1: but I think a lot of other places in the
- 20:23Speaker 1: country just say prompt. Really now, I'm even starting to
- 20:26Speaker 1: hear he had to go to hospital. Oh that's this
- 20:29Speaker 1: sounds mental to me, he says. My biggest pet, he though,
- 20:33Speaker 1: is disinterested, which had a perfectly functional definition which had
- 20:36Speaker 1: nothing to do with uninterested until everyone decided it was
- 20:39Speaker 1: more intelligence. Sounded to say uninterested, probably a lost cause. Lastly,
- 20:44Speaker 1: how do you two pronounce? I just go no interests, right,
- 20:47Speaker 1: that's no interest. Lastly, how do you pronounce and I'll
- 20:52Speaker 1: spell it for you V A N I L L
- 20:54Speaker 1: A v A vanilla? Say it again, Ella vanilla not vanilla.
- 21:02Speaker 1: Oh okay, see my sister disagrees, but I say it's vanilla.
- 21:06Speaker 1: That's how I would say, as PAULI says, And I
- 21:07Speaker 1: don't care about the spelling or what the dictionary says,
- 21:10Speaker 1: kind of like I'll always say sherburt Well, that's because
- 21:13Speaker 1: you're from Burton Island. Should be from Sherburton Island. Um,
- 21:18Speaker 1: but what would you I say? I say vanilla. I don't.
- 21:21Speaker 1: I mean, I'm not telling you it's wrong. I just
- 21:23Speaker 1: say I would say vanilla. I've heard, Yeah, I've heard,
- 21:26Speaker 1: I've no plenty of people that say it. That's I
- 21:29Speaker 1: think maybe a New England thing vanilla. Maybe because it
- 21:32Speaker 1: sounds like a little bit of an accent. Vanilla. Yeah,
- 21:37Speaker 1: Megan would say it that way. Uh No, I'd say vanilla.
- 21:41Speaker 1: It's very vanilla. Say it the way it's spelled. Oh,
- 21:45Speaker 1: let me not all words just no, it's not said
- 21:47Speaker 1: the way they're spelled. No, that's true. Oh my god.
- 21:49Speaker 1: Oh can hey, hey, hey guy, guy they're writing in,
- 21:54Speaker 1: can't stop him. Can't suppress freedom of speech? Right can?
- 21:57Speaker 1: You don't have to read them like I'm the elon
- 22:01Speaker 1: Musk of this show. All for freedom of speech, which
- 22:04Speaker 1: is what we're giving Bill and DC. Who's on the
- 22:05Speaker 1: A sticket hot line? What's up Bill? Yeah? Hey, Jens.
- 22:09Speaker 1: So I'm actually really down with this whole because my
- 22:13Speaker 1: PhD is in linguistics. Oh oh jeez. And I wanted
- 22:19Speaker 1: to chime in what Fred does. Oh well, he does
- 22:23Speaker 1: a lot of things, so you have to be a
- 22:24Speaker 1: little more specific um on that. The guy that wrote
- 22:29Speaker 1: in about dipthong, yeah, right, track what Fred does is
- 22:33Speaker 1: called monothongization. It's when you take a regular dipthong with
- 22:40Speaker 1: two vowel sounds in it and you're shortened down to
- 22:43Speaker 1: one vowel sound. And I know you guys have heard
- 22:46Speaker 1: it in Pittsburgh when people say like downtown instead of downtown. Yeah,
- 22:53Speaker 1: and I would say that they say Bill Kawerr cow like,
- 22:58Speaker 1: they may shorten it. They make both those one sis, right,
- 23:02Speaker 1: in Pittsburgh. That's that's variety. So it was. It's interesting
- 23:08Speaker 1: to me. Is didn't Fred grow up as like a
- 23:11Speaker 1: New York kid and a loyal fan of the Jets.
- 23:13Speaker 1: He grew up all over the place. He grew up
- 23:15Speaker 1: on Cape Cod, he grew up in New Jersey, time
- 23:17Speaker 1: in New Jersey when he was young. Yeah, I went
- 23:20Speaker 1: to school in Florida, came back to Boston. He's been
- 23:24Speaker 1: all over the place. Whoever won he rooted for. That's
- 23:27Speaker 1: basically though. That's that's the story of his sport. That's
- 23:29Speaker 1: why the Patriots now because they went right right right.
- 23:33Speaker 1: So I just it's interesting he speaks like people in
- 23:37Speaker 1: the north, like western Pennsylvania through Cleveland up to Detroit.
- 23:41Speaker 1: I don't know why, but I wouldn't say he's wrong
- 23:44Speaker 1: obout to say it's a very minority way of speaking.
- 23:49Speaker 1: I would say he's wrong. That's what I just like,
- 23:51Speaker 1: just like arguing, I just like to go with he's wrong. Yeah,
- 23:54Speaker 1: screw you guys. So would you say our lads are
- 23:57Speaker 1: our lads? I say our rights And it's a diphthong
- 24:02Speaker 1: to me. But like I recognize some people stay differently.
- 24:05Speaker 1: As a linguist, like you can't stay they're wrong. It's
- 24:07Speaker 1: just like it's usage. Yeah, I agree, I agree. I
- 24:14Speaker 1: think I still think he's wrong with the hour Less
- 24:19Speaker 1: Fred contributing from a phone. The thing about how the
- 24:22Speaker 1: radio announcers or like television announcers will like point to
- 24:26Speaker 1: like the glove, like the ball goes off the glove,
- 24:29Speaker 1: rather than like the second base in himself. Yeah, so
- 24:33Speaker 1: it's uh. In English, you usually topicalize the subject. It's
- 24:38Speaker 1: usually like you know, like Paul knows so much about sports,
- 24:42Speaker 1: or you know, scale is a ball v bone. So
- 24:45Speaker 1: you have a topic, who's the subject, and then you
- 24:47Speaker 1: get some kind of comment modifies it and they put
- 24:50Speaker 1: stuff in the passive tense. Well, what you can do
- 24:54Speaker 1: is if you shift it around, you can kind of
- 24:55Speaker 1: refocus the attention. And so I understand changing it to
- 25:00Speaker 1: like off the ball of the off the glove of
- 25:02Speaker 1: s like a basement. It's a way to sort of
- 25:04Speaker 1: communicate in earlier radio the visuals if you were there,
- 25:08Speaker 1: you're focusing the mental eye on the glove and a
- 25:11Speaker 1: ball bouncing off of it, as opposed to like what
- 25:13Speaker 1: the guy did, kind of like you know, moving from
- 25:16Speaker 1: left to right is the full back it gives the
- 25:18Speaker 1: visual sense, and I think a lot of my senses
- 25:20Speaker 1: that TV guys maintain those old radio creating a visual things. Yeah,
- 25:26Speaker 1: now you might you might be right because the way
- 25:28Speaker 1: you just said that too, moving to left from left
- 25:30Speaker 1: to right is the fullback. I've heard that. That's another
- 25:33Speaker 1: tick that I've absolutely heard. Yeah, so you might be right.
- 25:36Speaker 1: It might be something they're trained to do, but it's
- 25:38Speaker 1: it's annoying. It is annoying because like you know, I
- 25:40Speaker 1: worked and when I worked in television news, Like it's
- 25:44Speaker 1: so it's funny how you get sort of like a
- 25:47Speaker 1: group think mentality when like you've seen people on television
- 25:50Speaker 1: speak this way, So now you get on television and
- 25:53Speaker 1: you feel like you have to speak in a certain
- 25:55Speaker 1: way and accent words. I do think like it's that's
- 25:58Speaker 1: a different that's trying. Like I'm talking about the phraseology
- 26:02Speaker 1: as opposed to how you set like I don't care
- 26:04Speaker 1: how you say it. Yeah, I don't think it's you know,
- 26:08Speaker 1: I think Bill makes a good point because I think
- 26:11Speaker 1: that it's something that is it happens by too many
- 26:14Speaker 1: of them for it to be a coincidence. It's probably
- 26:16Speaker 1: something that they're trained to do. Yeah, and I don't
- 26:19Speaker 1: think it's properly like not that it's improper English, but
- 26:21Speaker 1: it's not. It's awkward. Yeah, it's awkward. It's awkward syntax,
- 26:25Speaker 1: and it's like it's sort of not the way anybody
- 26:27Speaker 1: it's not coloqual, it's not the way anybody would spee.
- 26:29Speaker 1: Almost sounds like old English. Yeah, you know, and you
- 26:32Speaker 1: know Middle English. I don't know why everything is passive,
- 26:35Speaker 1: and I don't know why everything is in the future,
- 26:37Speaker 1: like he will retire the side now he just did.
- 26:39Speaker 1: It's over. It happened, you know, Like to me, it's
- 26:43Speaker 1: just not right. Is there is there a delay in
- 26:45Speaker 1: the broadcast? You're not seeing it, you're predicting it. What's
- 26:47Speaker 1: going on? All right? Bill? So anything else, well, I'll
- 26:52Speaker 1: say you're my one pet thieves. And it's not that
- 26:54Speaker 1: I think it's wrong. I just I prefer something else.
- 26:57Speaker 1: But the regularization of English verbs, like I like that
- 27:01Speaker 1: the bell was wrong, the candle was lit, the book
- 27:03Speaker 1: was read, and making everything regular now like lighted kind
- 27:07Speaker 1: of bugs me. It seems like, I don't know, you
- 27:09Speaker 1: lose a lot of the flavor of older English verbs.
- 27:12Speaker 1: So that's my sort of big cut team these days.
- 27:14Speaker 1: I hadn't noticed that one. You see that in like
- 27:17Speaker 1: people speaking, or more in writing. It's the writing in fact,
- 27:20Speaker 1: like the New York Times style guide. So a lot
- 27:23Speaker 1: of the journalistic spall guys now require you to regularize things.
- 27:27Speaker 1: And I guess it's good for non English speakers, like
- 27:30Speaker 1: people getting confused by how irregular verbs are. But I
- 27:33Speaker 1: don't know. It's kind of like the literature I grew
- 27:36Speaker 1: I grew up reading. I'm losing. We're losing those awards
- 27:38Speaker 1: slowly but surely, based on the fixed with New York
- 27:41Speaker 1: Times publish every day. That's the least of their issues. Anyway,
- 27:46Speaker 1: Thanks you. Fred's not here, Yeah, he won't give you that.
- 27:52Speaker 1: Oh we have a nerd from name in a while,
- 27:54Speaker 1: huh hey in Shadow band. Yeah, all right, back to
- 27:58Speaker 1: the emails. Yeah, like we have have like a linguistics expert.
- 28:01Speaker 1: We have everybody mentioned the show. We always do. It's
- 28:04Speaker 1: just we perform such a valuable service. It's true. It's
- 28:07Speaker 1: a public service announcement for the for our funds. Uh.
- 28:10Speaker 1: This is Reno from Reno. Doesn't say where, No, his
- 28:15Speaker 1: name is Reno. His name Burton from Burton Island. Yeah,
- 28:19Speaker 1: the closer we get to the draft, the more I
- 28:21Speaker 1: feel like it's going to be a wide receiver in
- 28:23Speaker 1: the first round. Well, that's very optimistic thinking. The more
- 28:25Speaker 1: we get closer to it, and the more I think
- 28:27Speaker 1: there's not going to be a first round I know
- 28:30Speaker 1: we got Parker, but I feel like BB knows Mac
- 28:32Speaker 1: needs a playmaker. What do you all think, Can we
- 28:34Speaker 1: still get a starting caliber outside corner in the second round?
- 28:38Speaker 1: Probably not. Yeah, I'd rather get him in the first round.
- 28:41Speaker 1: I think give a better chance of getting a starting
- 28:42Speaker 1: caliber wide receiver in the second round than corner man. Yeah,
- 28:45Speaker 1: but I you know, we've been saying this since the start,
- 28:49Speaker 1: and I know Mike and I along with Matise Bauman,
- 28:52Speaker 1: who's been joining us on our Guy Draft podcast previews
- 28:56Speaker 1: on all of our podcasts so far, it seems like
- 29:01Speaker 1: beyond quarterback, it's like, yeah, no, definitely, wide receiver yep.
- 29:05Speaker 1: Offensive line yep. Defensive line, yeah, yep, yep. Tackle run stuffing,
- 29:09Speaker 1: you know, to tackle, oh, a linebacker. Yeah. Like, there's
- 29:12Speaker 1: really not a lot of positions that I would say, well,
- 29:14Speaker 1: there's no way they'll take that. I don't think there's
- 29:16Speaker 1: any way they'd take a quarterback in the first round, right,
- 29:18Speaker 1: I don't think there's any way they'd take a running
- 29:20Speaker 1: back in the first round. But beyond that tight end,
- 29:23Speaker 1: you can take an argument. Yeah, I've been tight end.
- 29:25Speaker 1: Probably not. You can make an argument for virtually anything else. Yeah,
- 29:30Speaker 1: not a kiker though not like the Raiders did back
- 29:33Speaker 1: in the day with ce Bass, Janetkowski dumb Sam in Toronto. Here,
- 29:38Speaker 1: with the receiver market exploding lately, do you think this
- 29:40Speaker 1: will lead to Bill investing more draft capital into receivers
- 29:44Speaker 1: to keep the cupboard stucked with the younger, cheaper talent
- 29:46Speaker 1: along with a couple of veterans, similar to what he's
- 29:48Speaker 1: been doing with the running backs in recent years, recent history,
- 29:52Speaker 1: he wants to do what now? Say that? I mean
- 29:55Speaker 1: the off the Yeah, the explosion of receiver I think
- 29:59Speaker 1: Bill will invest more draft capital into receivers to keep
- 30:03Speaker 1: the cupboard stocked with the younger, cheaper talent along with
- 30:07Speaker 1: a couple of veterans, similar to what he's been doing
- 30:09Speaker 1: with the running backs. So you've got your stable of
- 30:11Speaker 1: running backs, a couple of veterans, but you always have
- 30:13Speaker 1: the younger guys in the wings. I mean, we'll see.
- 30:15Speaker 1: I know, I don't think that he Will. I think
- 30:18Speaker 1: that there's a chance that they'll take a wide receiver,
- 30:21Speaker 1: but I don't think you're going to see him take
- 30:23Speaker 1: more wide receivers than normal because of the contracts. Yeah,
- 30:25Speaker 1: I mean, I don't think there's much room left in
- 30:28Speaker 1: the receiver room for any any newcomers. I mean, yeah,
- 30:32Speaker 1: if they dropt a first round guy, I would love
- 30:35Speaker 1: a first or second round pick to knock everybody potentially
- 30:39Speaker 1: down a peg. You know, maybe not immediately, but eventually
- 30:42Speaker 1: this year, and then you're gonna potentially lose Agalore and Myers.
- 30:47Speaker 1: They're both going to be unrestricted free agents at the
- 30:49Speaker 1: end of the season. I think you'll have Borne, if
- 30:52Speaker 1: you know, if Bourne has another year, he's going to
- 30:54Speaker 1: be looking speaking of this wide receiver explosion. If Bourne
- 30:57Speaker 1: has a good year, let's say he puts up a
- 30:59Speaker 1: thousand arts, yeah, he could get some. He's going to
- 31:02Speaker 1: be looking for more money, right, you know. I think
- 31:05Speaker 1: he'd be under contract for another year, but he's going
- 31:06Speaker 1: to be looking to redo that deal and get paid. Yeah. So,
- 31:10Speaker 1: and those guys, by the way, you know, that's why
- 31:12Speaker 1: Bill I think kind of shi away from them, because
- 31:16Speaker 1: those guys are not shy about you know, asking for
- 31:19Speaker 1: theirs the divas by by definition, are you are you
- 31:24Speaker 1: starting to think the way I am like that they're
- 31:25Speaker 1: not going to make a pick or do you still
- 31:28Speaker 1: hold alls? I think trading down is in It's definitely
- 31:30Speaker 1: in the cards now. I think it's interesting. And I
- 31:33Speaker 1: wrote a little bit about this, uh for my notes
- 31:35Speaker 1: this morning, and I know Peter King wrote a lot
- 31:38Speaker 1: about it yesterday. It's Peter King correct um. The trades
- 31:43Speaker 1: before the draft, trades for the you know, involving draft
- 31:46Speaker 1: picks before the draft, seems to be a growing trend um.
- 31:50Speaker 1: In twenty twenty, I believe there were six h there
- 31:55Speaker 1: were there were deals made involving six draft picks prior
- 31:59Speaker 1: to April eleventh. Last year, there were eleven draft picks
- 32:04Speaker 1: involved in trades before the eleventh and then so that
- 32:08Speaker 1: was a total of seventeen. And this year there's already
- 32:10Speaker 1: been seventeen picks involved in trades prior to April eleventh.
- 32:16Speaker 1: So I think that's something that is becoming more more
- 32:21Speaker 1: than norm I think teams just want to get their
- 32:24Speaker 1: picks that they're moving around. I didn't write about this
- 32:28Speaker 1: as much, but I think I read Peter King wrote
- 32:30Speaker 1: something about I think there's eight teams now that do
- 32:34Speaker 1: not have a pick in the top thirty five or
- 32:35Speaker 1: something like that, top fifty. I forget the exact there's
- 32:41Speaker 1: a good amount because I think people are looking at
- 32:43Speaker 1: it a little bit differently and saying, you know, I'll
- 32:45Speaker 1: take established players and plug them in for a year
- 32:48Speaker 1: or two, and then when I don't need that guy anymore,
- 32:52Speaker 1: you know, and I'll just look for another one. And
- 32:54Speaker 1: at the same time, you know, teams like the Rams,
- 32:57Speaker 1: and I know it's and part of this is because
- 33:00Speaker 1: less need sort of embraces that reputation, like you know
- 33:04Speaker 1: with the f the picks yeah shirt that he were
- 33:06Speaker 1: at the Super Bowl party or parade. He hasn't The
- 33:10Speaker 1: Rams haven't done that. The Rams haven't taken first rounders.
- 33:14Speaker 1: They've traded all their first rounders, first second rounders, a
- 33:16Speaker 1: lot of them to get you know, to get veterans.
- 33:19Speaker 1: But they've really done well in the middle to late
- 33:22Speaker 1: rounds sort of supplementing that star power around them. Yeah,
- 33:27Speaker 1: And I think that's that's the key. You can't do
- 33:31Speaker 1: it all one way. This is why, like I you know,
- 33:33Speaker 1: people at all, you know, you can't do it the
- 33:35Speaker 1: way the rams do it because no, they've been able
- 33:38Speaker 1: to do it because they've done some other things well
- 33:41Speaker 1: to help those stars. Just like you can't just do
- 33:44Speaker 1: it in the draft, because it's too hard to just
- 33:48Speaker 1: say I'm going to hit on every pick and get
- 33:50Speaker 1: a whole team full of guys on their rookie contracts
- 33:52Speaker 1: and they're all going to get good and developed together.
- 33:55Speaker 1: That's really hard to do too. Like you, there's not
- 33:57Speaker 1: you can't just do it one way. And I think
- 34:00Speaker 1: this is one of the thing the strengths of Belichick
- 34:02Speaker 1: I think over the years is I don't think there
- 34:04Speaker 1: is just one way that he thinks. I think he's
- 34:06Speaker 1: able to adapt and go year to year and just
- 34:10Speaker 1: I mean, look at last year how many free agents
- 34:12Speaker 1: they signed. Yeah, because it was an anomaly of a
- 34:16Speaker 1: situation with the amount of space they had. He has
- 34:19Speaker 1: in the lack of money that other teams had to spend.
- 34:21Speaker 1: At the same time, he has a tendency certainly. Yeah,
- 34:25Speaker 1: I think he tends to want to have draft picks.
- 34:28Speaker 1: But if that's true, that if it's like eight teams
- 34:32Speaker 1: that don't have a pick in the top thirty five
- 34:33Speaker 1: something like that, I mean, that don't hold me to know.
- 34:36Speaker 1: But I mean that's still that's a lot of that's
- 34:37Speaker 1: a lot of teams that other teams that have multiple picks. Yes,
- 34:41Speaker 1: and well that was part of the Eagles in Saints, right,
- 34:45Speaker 1: that the Eagles had three and they traded him to
- 34:47Speaker 1: you know, one of them to the Saints. You know,
- 34:50Speaker 1: some of the Saints are in there. I ami had
- 34:52Speaker 1: multiple picks. I think the Giants have multiple picks. Ye, Detroit,
- 34:56Speaker 1: the Jets might Detroit Detroit. Yeah, Detroit has one early
- 34:59Speaker 1: and one take in the first round. So those are
- 35:02Speaker 1: the teams. And I think where quarterback fits in here
- 35:05Speaker 1: is going to be interesting because it's not a good
- 35:07Speaker 1: quarterback class. No, but I've seen Kenny Pickett's suddenly going
- 35:11Speaker 1: like up in the top ten. But the problem is,
- 35:14Speaker 1: if you need a quarterback, do you just take one,
- 35:17Speaker 1: even though there's some wartz to the guy. Now, I
- 35:20Speaker 1: personally wouldn't, but I think Carolina at six, so they
- 35:27Speaker 1: have no quarterback. They have Sam darnold Um and they
- 35:31Speaker 1: have no answers. So it's easy to sit there and say, well,
- 35:34Speaker 1: I'm not going to take a quarterback. But now you're
- 35:39Speaker 1: resigning yourself to the fact that you will not have
- 35:41Speaker 1: a quarterback this year and then potentially be looking for
- 35:45Speaker 1: one still next year. Right, Um, I would rather if
- 35:48Speaker 1: I were, you know, I think there's a chance for
- 35:51Speaker 1: a guy like Willis. I think there's some Malik Willis
- 35:54Speaker 1: from I think there's some some upside to his game.
- 35:58Speaker 1: But he's no He's probably the furthest away from being
- 36:00Speaker 1: ready Liberty in North Carolina or South Carolina, one of
- 36:04Speaker 1: the Carolinas. Yeah, I think it's in one of the Carolinas.
- 36:06Speaker 1: But I'm surprised they haven't heard his name linked with them.
- 36:10Speaker 1: I think there's some people that like him for there
- 36:13Speaker 1: some people like him in Pittsburgh too. Yeah, I've seen that,
- 36:16Speaker 1: you know, which is a little bit later. That's around
- 36:17Speaker 1: the time the Patriots pick is that? So I think
- 36:20Speaker 1: if those quarterbacks end up going now, personally, I wouldn't.
- 36:23Speaker 1: I don't think either one of them is the top
- 36:25Speaker 1: half of the first round guy. I would be content
- 36:28Speaker 1: to wait, like if in my opinion, having Sam Darnold
- 36:32Speaker 1: as your quarterback is no different than having Kenny Pickett, Right,
- 36:36Speaker 1: But I think I see where you're going here, though,
- 36:38Speaker 1: I would just wait it out and see if you
- 36:39Speaker 1: get it. But if those guys end up going. Now
- 36:41Speaker 1: that drops down some potential talent for the Patriots. And
- 36:44Speaker 1: there's teams with two picks. So now there's teams that
- 36:46Speaker 1: are behind that might you know, a Green Bay or
- 36:50Speaker 1: a Kansas City that it is supposedly looking for receivers
- 36:54Speaker 1: as an example, all of a sudden, you get your
- 36:56Speaker 1: pick of the literary receiver and you got a team
- 36:59Speaker 1: that's ten spots in front of you with two first
- 37:01Speaker 1: round picks that might be willing to give one of
- 37:04Speaker 1: them up. So I think that that's this is the
- 37:07Speaker 1: show Thursday night. Um, yeah, you know two weeks from
- 37:10Speaker 1: Thursday when when we get together for the first round.
- 37:13Speaker 1: I think there's gonna be a lot of a lot
- 37:15Speaker 1: of wheeling and dealing in that first round. And if
- 37:18Speaker 1: it's could be involved in it, it seems they might
- 37:20Speaker 1: want to get you know, where the Patriots are at
- 37:22Speaker 1: twenty one could be prime spot for you know, I
- 37:26Speaker 1: don't know, Traylan Burkes or Drake I mean, Drake London
- 37:29Speaker 1: has probably gone before that. Jamison Williams probably gone for that. Um,
- 37:33Speaker 1: but there'll there'll be there'll be some opportunities if some
- 37:36Speaker 1: of those guys end up being on the board longer
- 37:38Speaker 1: than you think. Yeah, it seems like this has been
- 37:40Speaker 1: the off season for trading, you know, more so than
- 37:45Speaker 1: other off seasons. There's been tons of trading going on,
- 37:48Speaker 1: and I think it's great. The off season in the NFL.
- 37:51Speaker 1: This is how when I was a kid, this is
- 37:53Speaker 1: how the baseball off season used to be. Like, you
- 37:55Speaker 1: had free agent signings, you had trades, you know, blockbuster
- 37:58Speaker 1: kind of deals, you know. I mean, I go back
- 38:01Speaker 1: to my childhood, my early childhood. Reggie Jackson went from
- 38:06Speaker 1: Oakland to Baltimore as a free agent, like in seventy six.
- 38:09Speaker 1: Then he went to the Yankees. Like, this is one
- 38:11Speaker 1: of the premier players in baseball. That never happened in football.
- 38:14Speaker 1: Now what happens all the time. Yeah, yeah, I think
- 38:16Speaker 1: it's great. I think it's great. The advent of Plan
- 38:20Speaker 1: B back in the early nineties, remember that. Let's go
- 38:23Speaker 1: back to the phone lines at eight five five Pats
- 38:25Speaker 1: five hundred. Dave is up in Canada. Ay, what's up? Day?
- 38:31Speaker 1: Very good? Me a question off in the app by
- 38:34Speaker 1: you something like you, but I can quickly ask the
- 38:38Speaker 1: last game of the year, Kyle Dugger had the big
- 38:40Speaker 1: club on his hand and never heard from it. Since
- 38:43Speaker 1: is is there offseason surgery or is he Okay, I
- 38:46Speaker 1: think he had surgery and then played the game with
- 38:49Speaker 1: the club over it. Yeah, I think that. I think
- 38:52Speaker 1: I think that's I think I think that was the
- 38:53Speaker 1: report that. I think that's right, Paul. He's back to
- 38:57Speaker 1: normal and good to go. I would assume, No, I
- 38:59Speaker 1: mean yeah, I mean, well, we'll know more when we
- 39:01Speaker 1: get to I can't imagine he is going to win
- 39:04Speaker 1: pack him throughout his offseason. Yeah, great, yeah, okay, all right,
- 39:09Speaker 1: only across one of the apps I used. Yeah, I
- 39:12Speaker 1: remember what you're talking about, Dave. He did that. He
- 39:14Speaker 1: had the big club over his hand. It was for
- 39:16Speaker 1: the Jacksonville game. No, he played the playoff game with it,
- 39:19Speaker 1: and I remember seeing it. No, I mean he got
- 39:22Speaker 1: hurt in the Jacksonville game, I believe. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 39:26Speaker 1: he had the club in the in the playoff game,
- 39:28Speaker 1: the playoff game, right, you bet? All right, thanks, Dave.
- 39:32Speaker 1: When I watched that game that replayed that game on
- 39:34Speaker 1: NFL Network the other day, you happen to notice that,
- 39:36Speaker 1: and I was like, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, the club
- 39:38Speaker 1: on his hand, Yeah, toss him out the club, yeah.
- 39:42Speaker 1: Web Radio Patriots dot com is our email address. Srisha
- 39:46Speaker 1: from Bangalore has a little draft related game. Since we've
- 39:49Speaker 1: been talking about the draft of late, Let's assume the
- 39:53Speaker 1: below set of three players are available to the Patriots
- 39:56Speaker 1: in round one, pick one. You can draft down if
- 40:01Speaker 1: you think none of them are good enough. You know
- 40:04Speaker 1: what he means by that, If you don't think one
- 40:06Speaker 1: of them twenty one? Yeah, first set of three? Would
- 40:10Speaker 1: you take any of these? Trevor Penning, the Iowa Northern
- 40:14Speaker 1: Iowa tackle, Chris Oh Love. I just want to take
- 40:17Speaker 1: him for that reason, so we can sing that when
- 40:19Speaker 1: he'd take him. And Andrew Booth Junior. Actually he's the
- 40:22Speaker 1: cornerback from Clenson. That's uh, that's the guy that I
- 40:25Speaker 1: kind of like. Yeah, I think of those three, I
- 40:29Speaker 1: think I would take Booth because I think it's the position,
- 40:32Speaker 1: it's the biggest need. Um. But I really do like
- 40:35Speaker 1: a Love. I wouldn't I wouldn't scoff at that pick
- 40:39Speaker 1: at all. I mean, as long as they make a pick,
- 40:41Speaker 1: I'll be happy. Yeah. And I'm not as familiar with
- 40:43Speaker 1: some of the defensive backs because I haven't done as
- 40:44Speaker 1: much research on them, but I know Booth um um
- 40:48Speaker 1: a little bit just from you know, he's a first
- 40:51Speaker 1: round pick and I've seen his name now for a
- 40:53Speaker 1: couple of months. I think that's a I think that's
- 40:55Speaker 1: a big deed. I think wide receiver, cornerback, offense, of
- 41:00Speaker 1: line line back, you know, an edge guy, insideline. But
- 41:03Speaker 1: I think these are big needs for them to fill.
- 41:05Speaker 1: That's why I think they can't really go wrong. They're
- 41:08Speaker 1: gonna fill a need, I think almost no matter what
- 41:09Speaker 1: they do. Sure, the only thing that scares me about
- 41:12Speaker 1: Booth is that he reported they came up here for
- 41:15Speaker 1: an official visit, and a lot of times when they
- 41:16Speaker 1: do that, they don't taking the guy is a Panning
- 41:19Speaker 1: Penning Penning, Yeah, he was here, I believe which one?
- 41:23Speaker 1: Is it? All right? Second set of three, Paul, You're ready?
- 41:27Speaker 1: Nakobe Dean, Joja Kyer Elam the Florida corner, and again
- 41:34Speaker 1: Andrew Booth. He's I think I'm noticing a pattern here.
- 41:36Speaker 1: I think I would stay with Booth again in that situation,
- 41:38Speaker 1: but Dean would be my strong second there. Uh yeah,
- 41:42Speaker 1: I'd be kind of hard to go against that athleticism
- 41:44Speaker 1: at that position. Um, and you like Booth better than
- 41:47Speaker 1: Elam the two corners? Yeah, yeah, I kind of I
- 41:49Speaker 1: agree with you. Uh, last three DeVante Wyatt Georgia is
- 41:53Speaker 1: just loaded with first round Georgie's defense. We were talking
- 41:57Speaker 1: about this on one of the podcasts. I think there's
- 41:59Speaker 1: a prospect that that is slated to go, say in
- 42:03Speaker 1: the top five rounds. Yeah, at every like all eleven starters.
- 42:07Speaker 1: I know, Like there's like three defensive linemen, four linebackers, uh,
- 42:12Speaker 1: edge rusher, a safety. Yeah, what an unbelievable defense they had.
- 42:16Speaker 1: Uh so Wyatt, Trent McDuffie cornerback from Washington or Devin
- 42:20Speaker 1: Lloyd Utah Lloyd there? Uh again, I mean I still
- 42:27Speaker 1: I think if you can't tell, I think corner is
- 42:30Speaker 1: a bigger need. Yeah, but me too. I mean again,
- 42:34Speaker 1: those are good, those are good groupings. I think those
- 42:36Speaker 1: players will be around you didn't go with Like you know,
- 42:40Speaker 1: I don't know though, Paul, because I'm the top three
- 42:42Speaker 1: overall pick. No. But like and again, mock drafts are
- 42:45Speaker 1: worth what you paid for him, absolutely nothing. Um but
- 42:48Speaker 1: I've seen like Devin's Lloyd name up in the top
- 42:51Speaker 1: and who was the guy was at Walker from Georgia. Yeah,
- 42:53Speaker 1: and I think we've seen that guy suddenly vaulting into
- 42:57Speaker 1: like the top ten, top five. Yeah, um, you know,
- 43:00Speaker 1: out of nowhere. I think that was a guy that
- 43:02Speaker 1: Mike was talking about on one of our podcasts that
- 43:04Speaker 1: we recorded recently. Yeah, um yeah, Trayvon Walker. Yeah, yeah,
- 43:11Speaker 1: he's a guy that is suddenly uh, you know, m
- 43:16Speaker 1: vaulting up the lists. Uh. Back to the ACE ticket Hotline.
- 43:21Speaker 1: Patty cousin, Patty is an aguam Hello Patty, Hello, gentlemen, Polly,
- 43:28Speaker 1: let me ask you a question. What did you do today?
- 43:31Speaker 1: What did I do today? He's doing it right now. Hey,
- 43:34Speaker 1: you're looking at it? Oh? Are you listening to it?
- 43:37Speaker 1: Flapping right there? Oh? I see what you're doing there.
- 43:42Speaker 1: It's a show about nothing. This is a show. That's
- 43:44Speaker 1: a show. Why am I listening today? Because it's on
- 43:46Speaker 1: the radio, on the radio, not yet. That's the first
- 43:50Speaker 1: thing that came to my head when I heard you
- 43:52Speaker 1: say that's the show Thursday, two thursdays from now. I
- 43:56Speaker 1: had to. I had to throw that in there. Um,
- 44:00Speaker 1: at least we'll have at least we'll have more football
- 44:02Speaker 1: stuff to talk about that night. Yeah, we should have
- 44:03Speaker 1: at least two really solid days of draft shows Thursday,
- 44:07Speaker 1: Thursday and Friday, right right. I don't know, but I
- 44:11Speaker 1: don't promise no on. I was reading an NFL Network
- 44:17Speaker 1: article yesterday and it kind of dawned on me. And
- 44:21Speaker 1: when it didn't, when I had the epiphany, I was like, wow,
- 44:23Speaker 1: I'm really I'm I'm really kind of getting dumb in
- 44:26Speaker 1: my old age. But somebody had wrote how I think
- 44:30Speaker 1: it was Daniel Jeremier, one of those guys that predicted
- 44:33Speaker 1: the Patriots picking a guard with their first pick, and
- 44:36Speaker 1: they said they lost their two starting guards, Ted Carriss
- 44:40Speaker 1: and Shack Mason, and I'd forgotten that, like Carris had
- 44:44Speaker 1: replaced Michael and Wenu after a few games last year.
- 44:47Speaker 1: And I'm like, yeah, you know what, as much as
- 44:49Speaker 1: it may suck, these guys might actually take like Zion
- 44:53Speaker 1: Johnson or yea like Kenyan Green, those offensive guards with
- 44:56Speaker 1: their first pick. I could I could see that. Yeah, definitely, Patty,
- 45:00Speaker 1: And you know what, I'd be fine, will be I mean, yeah,
- 45:03Speaker 1: Paul Paul will throw the the Eric hissy fit just
- 45:07Speaker 1: take one in the fourth round and started right. Um,
- 45:11Speaker 1: But uh, I just like I I like when they
- 45:14Speaker 1: make a pick in the first round just because I
- 45:17Speaker 1: feel like they they're targeting somebody talented, whether regardless of
- 45:21Speaker 1: the position, it's somebody talented. And I and I think
- 45:24Speaker 1: they can't have enough of that, especially the way this
- 45:27Speaker 1: last season ended. Got to get that bad taste out
- 45:30Speaker 1: of your mouth. They have too much of a talent
- 45:33Speaker 1: gap between some of these better teams in the AFC,
- 45:35Speaker 1: in the AFC East for that matter. So they got
- 45:38Speaker 1: to do something. And if they want to keep mac
- 45:40Speaker 1: Jones upright, give him a chance to you know, develop
- 45:43Speaker 1: a little bit more. You know, we saw how bad
- 45:45Speaker 1: it was at the beginning of last year. If they
- 45:46Speaker 1: take a lineman, I could understand the thinking behind it.
- 45:50Speaker 1: I you know, it's not gonna be the most exciting pick,
- 45:52Speaker 1: but I'd rather they do that than trade down, certainly.
- 45:56Speaker 1: Oh yeah, me too. All Right, Well that's all I got, guys.
- 45:58Speaker 1: All Right, Thanks Patty, we'll talk to you soon. I'm
- 46:01Speaker 1: sure Chris Fish, our guy from Virginia corrects, corrects us Uh.
- 46:06Speaker 1: Liberty is actually in Virginia, Okay, in Lynchburg, about an
- 46:10Speaker 1: hour and fifteen away from votech all right. I can't
- 46:14Speaker 1: remember who I thought was in the There was a
- 46:16Speaker 1: school in the Carolinas. I thought I thought it was
- 46:18Speaker 1: Liberty but obviously I was wrong. Um Duke, Yeah, thanks
- 46:24Speaker 1: North Carolina. I didn't go with the office. How Oh,
- 46:30Speaker 1: wake Forest, Yeah, I take it a wake Forest. Yeah. No,
- 46:33Speaker 1: I was always thinking that Liberty was in the Carolinas.
- 46:37Speaker 1: I thought what I thought. I thought it was in
- 46:38Speaker 1: North Carolina too. I don't know why this is Howard
- 46:42Speaker 1: from Stratford, Connecticut. Guys don't often agree with Eric, but
- 46:45Speaker 1: respect with respect to the draft. The closer I get
- 46:47Speaker 1: to it, the more and more I moved towards your
- 46:49Speaker 1: way of thinking and that the Pats are trading down
- 46:51Speaker 1: out of the first round to build up the draft
- 46:53Speaker 1: picks for later in the draft. If Beebe does stay
- 46:56Speaker 1: in the first round, I think it's for either a
- 46:58Speaker 1: cornerback or other defensive help. I don't see him picking
- 47:01Speaker 1: a wide receiver or any offensive help in round one.
- 47:06Speaker 1: I don't think you can discount anything. I mean, you know,
- 47:10Speaker 1: like you said, Paul, they can use help in a
- 47:12Speaker 1: lot of places. So other than those handful of positions
- 47:16Speaker 1: that we talked about, quarterback, tight end. I mean somebody
- 47:21Speaker 1: wrote in saying, you know, safety, would you take a
- 47:24Speaker 1: safety in the first round? Yeah? I wouldn't, but I
- 47:29Speaker 1: know everybody looks at the Michigan kid and the Dackson
- 47:32Speaker 1: Hill kid. Yeah, and everybody loves them, and you know
- 47:35Speaker 1: that's a versa little guy like I just want a
- 47:38Speaker 1: guy who fills a role, fills a need, that has
- 47:42Speaker 1: talent like I don't. I don't want to stiff just
- 47:44Speaker 1: to say, well, I just I drafted the sixteenth tackle
- 47:47Speaker 1: on the list, so I could put him at tackle. No,
- 47:50Speaker 1: I want a good player, but I think there are
- 47:52Speaker 1: a lot of you know, players that are similarly clearly
- 47:57Speaker 1: clear early that that would make sense, that would feel needs,
- 48:02Speaker 1: like like the corners and the wide receivers in the lineback.
- 48:05Speaker 1: I think there's a lot of options there. An offensive
- 48:07Speaker 1: line is one of them. Absolutely. I just don't want
- 48:10Speaker 1: an interior offensive lineman that you know, Joe Tuney, Shack Mason.
- 48:14Speaker 1: These guys weren't first round picks, right, Like you don't
- 48:17Speaker 1: have to get really good guards in the first round.
- 48:21Speaker 1: I think three and three and Shack was four, right, Yeah, yeah,
- 48:25Speaker 1: both of those guys are now getting paid like first rounders.
- 48:27Speaker 1: So right, yeah, I know, I know it's it's but
- 48:31Speaker 1: Bill can't draft the blah police, sir or out. We
- 48:35Speaker 1: were just talking about Georgia. They're just showing their defense too,
- 48:38Speaker 1: and all these players ridiculous to Kobe Dean right there. Yeah,
- 48:42Speaker 1: ye man, good players to watch there. Um, Tim, they
- 48:48Speaker 1: can't see it now, I know, yes, I know. Thanks
- 48:51Speaker 1: Thanks Fred H. Tim from Rhode Island, Paul and Eric.
- 48:54Speaker 1: Just a couple of things from football related some nut. First,
- 48:56Speaker 1: do you think the Patriots should draft John Mitchie if
- 48:59Speaker 1: he's available in Pat's picking round two? Sure? I don't
- 49:04Speaker 1: love him, but even in round two, Yeah I don't.
- 49:07Speaker 1: I don't love the player, but uh yeah, I would
- 49:11Speaker 1: think about it in round two if he's available, and
- 49:13Speaker 1: that was something that would make Mac happy. You know,
- 49:16Speaker 1: based on their interaction interactions, they have some some rapport
- 49:21Speaker 1: from playing a season together. Yeah, I wouldn't be opposed
- 49:23Speaker 1: to that. And do you think he'd be available to
- 49:26Speaker 1: start the season. No, I don't. He's the one that
- 49:30Speaker 1: got hurt in the in the SEC Championship game. Yeah, yeah,
- 49:34Speaker 1: he might be available, but he's certainly not going to
- 49:37Speaker 1: be the type of player that you so. I just
- 49:40Speaker 1: think it's because it's too soon. It's also exacerbated. It's
- 49:43Speaker 1: one thing to say, like west Welker tour his ACL
- 49:49Speaker 1: in you know, at the end of December, early January,
- 49:52Speaker 1: and then you know he came back the next year.
- 49:56Speaker 1: But that's West Welker, you know, ending his third season
- 50:00Speaker 1: with the Patriots and entering his fourth season with the Patriots.
- 50:03Speaker 1: This is a rookie coming into the league who is
- 50:06Speaker 1: missing out on all the time on the field. Yes,
- 50:10Speaker 1: you know, developing a rapport with with Mac Jones and
- 50:14Speaker 1: all that stuff. Yeah, he'll play. I think he'll play
- 50:17Speaker 1: at some point, if not right away. I don't think
- 50:19Speaker 1: he will play right away, but I don't think he'll
- 50:21Speaker 1: be right Yeah. Your best case, probably with someone like that,
- 50:25Speaker 1: would be like NFI to start the season, that would
- 50:29Speaker 1: be my guests, and then maybe he shows up late
- 50:32Speaker 1: October November, that would be my guests. It should be
- 50:34Speaker 1: without in the first six weeks. But you know, I'm
- 50:37Speaker 1: not ruling it out. He could be ready to go. Yeah,
- 50:40Speaker 1: you know, eight nine months, nine months removed from surgery.
- 50:43Speaker 1: Sure he could be back. You just generally don't see
- 50:45Speaker 1: players coming back right away as strong or as fast
- 50:50Speaker 1: as and I think with a rookie it's existing to
- 50:52Speaker 1: be even harder. Yeah. Second football question from Tim and
- 50:55Speaker 1: Rhode Island. What position all things being equal, would you
- 50:58Speaker 1: prefer the Pats take in the first round? I think
- 51:00Speaker 1: you and I are of equal minds corner. Yeah, I agree.
- 51:04Speaker 1: I think that's the biggest of all the needs, that's
- 51:07Speaker 1: the most glaring, and that's the That's the way I
- 51:10Speaker 1: would go. Non football related, Eric, I'm going tomorrow evening
- 51:13Speaker 1: as well to see Ain't Two Proud? Should be a
- 51:15Speaker 1: great night. Well, come say hello. I'm down in in
- 51:18Speaker 1: the first few rows center Orchestra. Look at you, come
- 51:22Speaker 1: say hi. Um. Yeah, we've had those tickets for years.
- 51:26Speaker 1: We see some great shows right up right up close.
- 51:29Speaker 1: Every once in a while we see a bad one,
- 51:31Speaker 1: like like we did recently. Yeah it was. It was
- 51:35Speaker 1: one of the worst ones I've ever seen. Um, but
- 51:38Speaker 1: we have a great view of it all and you
- 51:39Speaker 1: can it's awesome. It's it's awesome being so close to
- 51:41Speaker 1: the front, Like we're literally like the orchestra pit is
- 51:44Speaker 1: two rows in front of us. It's a man, a
- 51:47Speaker 1: good musical performance, live theater on the stage. There's that's
- 51:53Speaker 1: that's good entertainment. There's there's really anything like that. Uh.
- 51:56Speaker 1: It looks like Maddie went to go get your lunch
- 51:58Speaker 1: posts We're we're gonna be taking a break soon. But
- 52:01Speaker 1: before we do that, we're gonna go back to the
- 52:02Speaker 1: eighth ticket hot line where Jeff is in Texas. What's up, Jeff? Hey, guys,
- 52:07Speaker 1: thanks for taking my call. Sure, what's happening. Yeah, it's
- 52:11Speaker 1: going on down there in the Lone Star State. Yeah,
- 52:16Speaker 1: it's nice and warm today. But I want to talk
- 52:18Speaker 1: about a little more about the mock drafts and so
- 52:22Speaker 1: m you guys were just mentioning some names here, but
- 52:25Speaker 1: a couple of the maks that I read about. Schreeger
- 52:30Speaker 1: predicted the Patriots stay put and take Zion in the
- 52:35Speaker 1: first round, and then Chad Ruder has a couple of
- 52:39Speaker 1: different mock drafts and he also had Zion. And then
- 52:43Speaker 1: this guy Leo Chanal linebacker in the first round. Um,
- 52:48Speaker 1: what I really like is this other one where the
- 52:51Speaker 1: Patriots trade down but stay in the first round with
- 52:55Speaker 1: the Packers. So they trade down from the twenty first
- 52:58Speaker 1: to the twenty eight and they pick up a third
- 53:00Speaker 1: and fourth rounder. Two. I really like that one because, um,
- 53:05Speaker 1: you know, I mean, Lesa is a great name still
- 53:07Speaker 1: there at twenty first. I don't know, I mean, what
- 53:12Speaker 1: do you guys think about the Packers trading, and then
- 53:14Speaker 1: they'd have the twenty first and twenty second pick right together.
- 53:18Speaker 1: The Packers trading with New England. Yeah, that was that
- 53:22Speaker 1: was a marked so they'd have so what are you getting? Yeah?
- 53:26Speaker 1: What are you? Yeah? What are you getting? Well, the
- 53:29Speaker 1: Packers would give the Patriots the twenty eighth first rounder
- 53:32Speaker 1: and then a third and fourth for the twenty first. Oh,
- 53:37Speaker 1: I think they'd make I think they would do the
- 53:38Speaker 1: third and fourth round pick to move up seven spots.
- 53:41Speaker 1: I would do that, yeah, yeah, yeah, absolutely, I like
- 53:45Speaker 1: that the best, you know. And then they but they
- 53:48Speaker 1: actually showed that the a Labba might still be there.
- 53:52Speaker 1: So would the Patriots give up a labba and take that?
- 53:55Speaker 1: Who knows? Right? I think they would because as Paul said,
- 53:58Speaker 1: there's you could probably get a decent receipt ever in
- 54:00Speaker 1: the second round anyway, Yeah, yeah, and one other questions.
- 54:05Speaker 1: So let's say the Patriots did trade down and they
- 54:08Speaker 1: picked up some more texting like the third and fourth
- 54:11Speaker 1: who do you see they might target in the second
- 54:13Speaker 1: like any names that you can see them move around
- 54:16Speaker 1: on the board in the second round for receivers, or
- 54:20Speaker 1: just in general, any any position, any position, Yeah, I
- 54:23Speaker 1: mean I think there's a handful of receivers that that
- 54:26Speaker 1: figure to be available. And you know, the kid from
- 54:29Speaker 1: Boise State is a guy that I really like, um
- 54:31Speaker 1: sort of in those you know, second in the day
- 54:34Speaker 1: two kind of thing. Um Shakier I think his name is.
- 54:37Speaker 1: I'm trying to look it up as I'm talking to you.
- 54:39Speaker 1: I know Sky Moore, A lot of people have been
- 54:41Speaker 1: involved with I don't love him as much as some
- 54:44Speaker 1: others do. Um, Sky's the limit with him though, that's
- 54:48Speaker 1: what they say, We're not going to do that. I
- 54:50Speaker 1: can tell you that. Yeah, Khalil shakur Uh is a
- 54:54Speaker 1: kid um, you know, maybe like a third rounder who
- 54:57Speaker 1: I kind of like. I thought he looked like he
- 54:59Speaker 1: really can pets. Um. I thought he looked like a
- 55:04Speaker 1: you know, six feet you know, so decent size, can
- 55:07Speaker 1: play inside, can do some different things. And Calvin Austin
- 55:11Speaker 1: is a kid that is absolutely electric um kind of
- 55:14Speaker 1: a running back type, uh, you know, really small um,
- 55:17Speaker 1: little spark plug. Just those are the kinds of guys
- 55:20Speaker 1: I think the Pagriots are lacking just electric kind of
- 55:23Speaker 1: you know players. I know Sky More, Like I said
- 55:25Speaker 1: one Dale Robinson's another one. These are day two, you know,
- 55:29Speaker 1: maybe even early day three kind of picks. I think
- 55:31Speaker 1: any of those guys would make sense. Okay, And what
- 55:36Speaker 1: do we have right now? Just one one second rounder? Yeah,
- 55:40Speaker 1: we've got we've got one pick in each of the
- 55:42Speaker 1: first four rounds. Then we've got two in the fifth
- 55:45Speaker 1: and two in the sixth, nothing in the seventh. Right,
- 55:48Speaker 1: I think that's it, so eight total right now, but
- 55:50Speaker 1: that could change. And you and yeah, I mean, and
- 55:53Speaker 1: you guys could see uh impossibly uh packaging pick to
- 55:57Speaker 1: get a you know, packaging up some later. Roun I
- 56:00Speaker 1: fixed to maybe get two picks on the second. Yeah,
- 56:04Speaker 1: I wouldn't put anything past them. Okay, all right, guys,
- 56:08Speaker 1: thanks a lot, All right, Jeff, all right, Pauli's food
- 56:11Speaker 1: is here. So we're gonna take a little quick break
- 56:14Speaker 1: so you can show down a beds good we're gonna have.

- 56:18Speaker 1: We're gonna get to you after the break. We're also

- 1:09:14Speaker 1: what's something tactful to say? Freddy? Kay, that's our guy. Uh,
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: we're back from lunch, Pauli's uh fueled up, got a
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: little sustenance in us. Now we're ready to go for
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: the last hour here today's show, Patriots Unfiltered. Uh, everything okay, Polly,
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: you're good. Turn your Mike on, Fred, Sorry about that.
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: Everything goes fine. Okay, We'll go back to the ACE
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: ticket hotline eight five five, PATS five hundred and your
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: emails at web radio Patriots dot com momentarily, But first,
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: Chris with A T, I A N. What's up? Pison?
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: Oh boys, what's going on? Only two today? Huh yeah,
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: you know, only only the good half. That's fine already,
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: time going forward at all? Oh, I would h fall fall?
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: Who would you fight with? You could exactly? I had
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: to apologize at the start of the show. Yeah, Mike
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: and Ferdn here, I have no one to argue. Um.
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: I had a thought and I wanted to get your
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: your opinion on it. So if if if it were me, Um,
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: or basically if it were you and you were looking
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: at this draft, my reasoning, uh, you know, for sort
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: of taking you know, obviously you want to get the
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: best player available, and you know, the one that's going
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: to help your team the soonest and for me, I
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: would want to get the best wide receiver, uh, you know,
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: right at the top available, because I think the offense
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: is in a position to win you more games right
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: now than the defense is, if that makes sense. So
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: you know, in other words, the corner the offense is
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: further ahead, you think, right, Yeah, So I feel like
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: in an offensive league, let's give Mac all the pieces
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: he needs. You know, DeVante Parker was a great addition,
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: but it should definitely not You guys mentioned this as
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: week becoog them from taking a wide receiver high because
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: you know, just look at next year when you get
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: Myers up um, and I think it was who was
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: the other guy that's up next year? Yeah, so you're
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: gonna need bodies, And I just think the more buy
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: as you throw that position. What do you guys think
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: of that you're taking along the same lines or do
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: you want that shutdown corner and then target the wide receiver.
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: I mean, I'm not gonna I'm not gonna look a
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: gift horse in the mouth. If they take a receiver
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: in round one, great, I would rather have a corner. Um.
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: I think that's the more pressing need I think. Yeah,
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: I mean, I think they need help all around both
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: sides of the ball. Um. But I like what you're
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: thinking though, Christian like that if the offense is closer,
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: do what you can to you know, finish that project
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: first and then move on to the defense. I can
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: I can be persuaded for that. Yeah as well. I
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: just hope they make a pick. You know, I'm beginning
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: to get that that's thinking feeling. You know that they're
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: going to say, oh, you know, it was more value
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: later on and all that nonsense. But I'd rather they
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: just make a pick. So if they take a receiver. Great,
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: that helps your cause with what you just said, and
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: if they take a corner, they're addressing what I think
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: is the biggest need of any of the positions. So
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: I'll be fine either way. Honestly, Yeah, it's I would.
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: I just want them to get start to get faster,
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: and yeah, you know, you know, on both sides of
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: the ball. Yeah, I had a question few guys and
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: I ever heard his name at all. Really, what's the
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: status of High Tower. He's still a free agent. Yep,
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: just a free agent, that's it. And so I mean,
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: I mean, do you see them bringing him back at all?
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: He's drawn any interest from anybody besides I mean, I
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: don't even think he's brought interest from the Patriots because
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: he's got an interest from anybody, not that I've heard.
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: I don't see him coming back. I don't. I think
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: he's probably done. But that's just a hunch. And you know,
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: you never know what can happening injuries in training camp
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: or the preseason, and he's still unsigned and they need somebody.
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: You know, you can't rule that kind of thing out,
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: you know, especially with a guy like him who's been
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: here for so long and done so much. So and
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: you know still out there too. Christian is Gilmore, and
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: I'm I'm a little stunned that we're this far into
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: free agency and he hasn't signed with anybody. I think
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: that the whole thing that's going on now, there's there's
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: a you know, a couple of dozen quality players available
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: in free agency still, and I think now the teams
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: are waiting till that deadline for compensatory picks to be
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: to come and go and then they can sign these
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: guys because I don't think there's a handful of guys
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: like Gilmore that are not veteran minimum type guys. Right,
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: they're gonna get something. And I think at this stage
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: you've waited this long, why not just waited out? Yeah?
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: What's that date? Yeah, I forget pre or post draft.
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: I think it's a little after the draft, if I'm
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: not to say, I think it's in May. Yeah, Yeah,
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: you're right, maybe like me. All right, Christian, thanks for calling, buddy,
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: Appreciate you as always. Um. Yeah, I'm just surprised that
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: he didn't sign early on in the in those first
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: two weeks, h Gilmore. Yeah, I mean I think that
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: the age and the injury probably scared some teams off
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: from giving him the long term deal that he was
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: probably looking for. He's probably looking to sign his last
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: contract and maybe teams weren't willing to do that. So
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: you recalibrate, see what's available. Uh, and then you you
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: take the next best thing. If you're Gilmore, We'll see
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: how that unfolds. Uh. Sulman in the Bay Area is
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: writing in on web radio at Patriots dot com. Hey, crew,
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: with Brandon King leaving for the Colts, thank you. I
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: know the biggest impact will be losing the sound bite
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: of Brandon King, which we played earlier. The bite will
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: sorely be missed. I don't think it would be much
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: of an impact on the field, though, since Bill loves
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: to stack up those special teams players game time. I
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: submit to my version of Patriots Word a couple of
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: weeks ago, and seems like you all liked it. Paul
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: was tremendous. Here's round two and a reminder of the rules.
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: First read off the year, which indicates the first season
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: the player played on the Patriots. Then hint number two. Yeah,
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: because this is all you, I have the answers right
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: in front of me now, Paul, Hint number two is
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: the position, not as much pressure, right. Third hint indicates
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: how the player got onto the team. Fourth is college.
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: Last his initials read off one at a time to
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: allow for guesses. Best of luck. Okay, year two thousand,
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: Bill's first with the Patriots. Okay, um am I allowed
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: to just keep guessing? Yes, because since the only one,
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: I can't be like silence Adrian Uh No, but you
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: can keep guessing. Running back Patrick Pass no drafted round three.
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: If I say the next hint, you're gonna get an immediately,
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: So I will give you. I will give you another hint.
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: Made a big play in Super Bowl thirty six. Ja Redman, Yes,
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: there you go. Nineteen ninety two. Okay, go ahead, okay.
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: Offensive tackle Uh, Bruce Armstrong No, No, I was eighty eight. Yeah,
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: Pat Harlowe, No, good guess though, That's why I was
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: thinking of when I originally first saw it. Uh drafted
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: first round, first round. Oh, Eugene Chung. There you go.
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: That's right, because the year they had the two. I
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: still remember that picture too, the Giants holding up their jerseys. Uh.
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: Two thousand and five. This is a funny one two
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: thousand and five. Yeah, okay, go ahead, I need more
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: from linebacker linebacker in two thousand and five, free agent
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: linebacker Mandy Bisel. Yes, wow, my next hint was gonna
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: be I'm a pr person. Two uh. Twenty twelve, okay, oh,
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: this is an obscure one safety Ken Webster. No, that's
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: really obscure. But remember that. Yeah, because he didn't he
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: wasn't here all that long. He was a free agent
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: as well. It's the kid from Baylor. No, no, Syracuse, Syracuse, Syrius.
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: You're from Syracuse, guy from data, I need more Syracuse
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: initials SG. Oh Steve Gregor, Hey, wow, you came down
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: to the last one there. Sorry guy, all right, two more,
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: two more? I know two thousand four, twenty four, Oh,
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: this is not fair. This one's not fair. Wide receiver
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: drafted Round five, p K Sam There you go. I
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: knew because the initials wouldn't have been fair. Yeah. Uh
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: at twenty sixteen. This is the last one. Twenty sixteen,
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: Oh my good. Twenty sixteen. Wow, I'll be very impressed
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: if you get this one. Twenty sixteen. Okay, so it
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: must not be a draft pick. Okay. Defensive tackle a
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: defensive tackle, undrafted rookie defensive tackle. Wow from Ole miss.
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: What's the name of that guy didn't left? Yeah? Yeah,
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: play with Carolina. No, no, no, I know who you're
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: thinking of. I can't think of his name, but I
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: know who you're talking about. Okay, all right, Woodrow Hamilton.
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: I never would have gotten yeah, never would have. No.
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: I you couldn't given me the still wouldn't. Right. That's
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: why I skipped over the initials, because I even forgot
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: that that man existed at all. A good game, No, Siman,
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: nice job. You got some some tough ones in there
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: for Paul. He love. He was facing the toughest competition.
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: He was facing himself too. I love those games. Keep
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: him coming. Yeah, we've got a couple of other ones
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: on deck, but we'll go back to the A sticket
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: hot line? Will him and fill him? What's happening, bro?
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: What's going on? You know? We're struggling through. We're grinding,
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: but y'all doing a good y'all hanging in. We're doing
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: our best. Thanks. Many will be proud. No, he won't,
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: he'll mock us. Oh Um, I have so much I
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: want to say, and I know I'm short for a time. Please, No,
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: the floor is yours, okay, all right, um? So I
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: have got about ten minutes anyway. All right, so about
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: three topics basically, Um, two is the draft and one
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: is Lars just receiver in general anything. Okay, So, um,
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: I hear all this trading down and all this, uh enough,
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: like just take it's a star player, fall team can't
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: whatever whatever position is. And if he's a Day one starter,
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: just take them. Hey, you're preaching to the choir, man.
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: I think you're a preaching to the choir. I think
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: they would do that if like a star player falls
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: to them. I think that they would do I would hope.
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: So Paul, I don't. I don't, so I don't say
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: never with Bill. He's burned me too many times exactly.
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: But I'm just I'm like to get all this building
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: draft capital and all this. Look these players, I mean,
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: these star players are did you get once in lifetime
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: generation right off? His linebacker, receiver, corner, free teat who
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: just take the player? Stop long that's moving around the
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: draft like I mean, you know we I mean, I
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: just think sometimes Bill Stills that he had I'm Brady
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: is like let's let's go. Let's go ahead, and they
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: you know, get your play with us. If you want
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: Derry Stanley and he flies a little bit more than
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: usual in East that close to twenty one. Go get him,
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: you know. If it's if it's Garrett Wilson, go get him.
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: If it's if it's Jordan Davis, to get him, right,
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: I don't care, Just just get the player. No, and
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: Sto bought us trading back. I mean, well, how long
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: if how long have you been listening to our show?
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: Oh man, oh um. I ain't gonna say. I'm not
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: gonna say as long as Claire or or Eldridge I'll
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: say that, so but yeah, I mean, I don't know
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: if you've been listening long enough to remember some of
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: my draft day tirades when they've traded down out of
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: the first round, because you're you're you're articulating exactly what
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: I have been saying for years on the first night
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: of the draft. Whenever they've done that, it's like, I mean,
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: I understand if they're training down to get some and
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: then they target somebody like later on that we know
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: that's a quality player or whatever, But a lot of
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: times they just I feel like they just pass up
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: on so many talented players who go on to have,
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: you know, great careers or solid careers in the NFL,
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: and I just lament the fact that they could have
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: had them. And yeah, so that's I mean that that
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: that's you know, you're you have a you know, you
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: have an audience here that agrees with with that. Just know, Eric,
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: I'm right along with you. Not feel the same way
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: you feel. Try Misery loves Company on run. Yeah. I
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: just think here, if a star player falster and they'll
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: take them, I hope, So I think I hope. So
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: all right, all right, so this one, well I need
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: you to kind of understand this one in YouTube. Eric,
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: I'm sorry. Um, so this is what I think Bill
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: might do if this happens. And I know Bill loves
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: free safeties. Okay, it's cal Hamilton falls and because the
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: knock on him is because it's forty times right, I
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: think Bill would take him. Why I would say that
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: at twenty one, Okay, that would be an example of
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: a star player falling to you, Yes, I agree, right
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: so when and I'm saying for the reason is because
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: you know, all those free safeties that we have a
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: strong safeties they can play in the box, but all
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: these only one that could plain in the center, which
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: is Devin mccordy, right, I agree, but I agree with
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: you he can do all that, Yes, yeah, I just
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: don't think he'll be available at twenty one. Yeah, true that.
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: I mean, you know, I just think if it, but
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: some I don't know. I just hear this knock about
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: the speed, you know, other than that six four I'm
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: I'm taking right play, Yeah, yeah, good player. I mean
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: most people have him in the top ten, right, and
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: uh this is my last last one, all right, all right,
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: so okay, I get it. I hear this all the time,
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: and I've seen it all the time from podcasts, from
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: pages on filter and anywhere else based I just hear this,
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: But I am not doing this. I don't care, all right.
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: I am not trading. It's my twenty one pick because
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: Jamison Williams is sitting at a first a first generation
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: while receiver, a burner that the page has never ever had,
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: and I'm gonna give it to Kansas City and then
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: I have to see these boys later. I don't think so.
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: I don't think so if all like what I'm saying is,
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: if Kobe Dean is gone, Jordan Davis is gone, I mean,
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: and it's Jamison wins falling. There is no I mean,
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: he's right dead for you. I mean, I get the
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: knock on him. I understand it, and I understand Paul,
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: you wouldn't take it because it's you know, maybe because
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: it's injury. What's going on with him right now for
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: the toorn ACL. I get it, But I'm not trading
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: the kinds I'm not doing. I don't I'm not trading nobody. Answer. Yeah,
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: Jamison Williams would cause me to give it some thought though,
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: because he's obviously better than the twenty first pick, and
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: if he's available because of the town A c L.
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: I would have to think about it a little bit.
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: But yeah, I mean I get your you know, he's
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: he's better than that, he's a better than if if
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: he didn't have the town A c L, it'd be
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: probably off the board, in the top ten, if not
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: the top five. Yeah, I agree. So I would have
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: to think about it because of that, right. Um, So
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: I just want to stay on Draft day when y'all
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: go back. Yeah, I will call him hopefully and we'll
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: be there. Yeah, hopefully all three days, william Yeah, we'd
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: like to hear from you all three days. Let's listen.
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: It was you know, much like Tiger Woods. Walking the
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: course at Augusta gets harder. There's a three tough show.
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: Get through. Each round gets harder and harder. Believe me,
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: we need all the help we can get, William. We're
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: struggling at the end there. All right, well, thanks man,
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: appreciate it. No doubt we are going to be looking
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: like a full circle all right time. Oh yeah, yeah,
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: it's your a profession or broadcast professional, Paul. Yeah, I
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: don't get paid, so no profession, no, no, you and
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: I both. We've got another game though, for you, courtesy
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: of Neil and New Brunswick. He's got another edition of
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: the games with names. Okay, all during the Brady era.
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: So you've got your parameters set. Uh the ninety nine
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: yard pass game Dolphins Monday Night Opening twenty eleven, maybe bingo,
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: you remember the score thirty eight twenty four It's unbelievable.
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: It's like he's reading the email. Uh. The the only
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: Michael Floyd highlight game that was also Miami, which was
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: also Miami. Yes, late in the year after Miami. Yeah yeah, right, yeah,
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: I mean don't tell me what maybe sixteen fifteen it
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: was New Year's Day, twenty seventeen, twenty sixteen season. Right, Yeah,
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: that's good, that's a good night. I forgot that. Yeah,
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: because it was Edelman coming across the blindside and he
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: blindsided some poor Dolphins defender. Everybody got all excited about
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: it until he caused an interception in the playoffs week But, uh,
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: Brady returns in red Buffalo, not two thousand and one.
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: He's Buffalo nine, Yes, Bingo Monday night, the early Monday
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: night game, seven o'clock Star Sniff four. That's exactly right. Yeah,
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: I was waiting for it. We are you shaking your
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: head for morrel? It is? It's like rain Man. Brady
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: returns part still, not twenty twenty one. So like Cleveland
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: Week five, the year that he was suspended, right, yeah,
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: that was twenty sixteen Weeks five. I got, I got
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: sad news. I couldn't even pretend to tell you the score.
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: I have no idea thirty three thirteen wouldn't it not?
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: Even I wouldn't know, no guesses even uh, this should
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: be U. This is a memorable one. The Letterman Jacket
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: game that was Houston obviously Monday night game in December?
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: Was it fifteen seventeen. No, no, no, the other way
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: fourteen thirteen, twenty twelve, Week fourteen of twenty twelve, that
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: long ago. Remember JJ watch came into the tunnel, guys. Yeah,
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: and there and then I could tell you the leather,
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: the leather sleeves. The playoff game they played a few
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: weeks later. Yep. I think the score of that game
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: was forty one twenty eight. If I'm not mistaken, I
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: don't remember the score of the Monday night game. Yeah,
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: it was a blowout. Very similar, very similar the Jesse
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: James catch question mark game Jesse James. So this is
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: the Pittsburgh game that was like, uh, late season, the
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: end of the season in seventeen correct, Week fifteen. Yeah,
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: and they won by twenty seven, twenty three, twenty four,
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: twenty Yeah. They didn't even need a touchdown, That's right.
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: So made it worse. Welker's muff game. Welker's muff game.
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: I don't know that game. He's got New England thirty four,
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: Denver thirty one overtime, twenty thirteen, Week twelve, Welker muff.
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: Welker did not see this is what this is why
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: I go crazy trying to get West Welker into the
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: Patriots Hall of Fame because of propaganda that is not
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: accurate like this West Welker was playing for Denver in
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: this game. This is the the unbelievable comeback game. Yes,
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: it was a lot of wind and the Patriots punted
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: in overtime. The punt was way short and hit an
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: up guy and Welker was back. But he did not muff.
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: He had nothing to do with the play other than
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: the fact that he was the guy back deep and
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: was yelling Peter, Peter, and it hit a Broncos up back.
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: Patriots recovered in field goal range, kicked the field goal
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: Gustowski to win it, and they were down twenty four
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: nothing Yeah, I believe at the half and halftime yeah,
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: and a nice little player. They went back, took a
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: thirty one twenty four lead. Manning drove the Broncos like
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: eighty yards into the wind to tie it thirty one
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: thirty one, and then both teams had the ball several
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: times in overtime. Even though Bill choosing to kick in
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: overtime was the reason they won. He chose to kick
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: in that game, yes, because it was the wind. Was
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: the wind immense, but the Broncos got stopped, the Patriots
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: got stopped, The Broncos got stopped, the Patriots got stopped.
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: Then they fumbled and that's how the Patriots ended up. Man,
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: is such a long time. That was a great game.
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: That was one of the most memorable games. And uh
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: in Gillette Stadium history. Regular season, regular season game, you
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: mad bro game that was at Seattle in twelve. Yep,
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: maybe Week four, close six six, twenty four, twenty one,
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: Seattle twenty twenty three, twenty three. Yeah, that was the
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: um Have you noticed that? That was the Wilson The
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: more recent the games are, the less less the score. Uh,
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: Wilson playing safety at the end, Russell Wilson. And finally
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: the Boston Sports comebacks game. I don't know that. I
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: don't know what that means. Oh there were two different
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: Boston Sports comebacks. Oh okay, I think I know what
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: you're talking about now. Oh three Patriots, uh Cttle Tennessee
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: and then the PA in the Red Sox coming back
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: to beat Oakland in the alc A l DS that
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: game four. I'm not going to do different comebacks at
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: the same day. I'm not going to dispute your memory
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: of the facts. But he's got an alternate one. Okay.
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: In Week six of twenty thirteen, Patriots thirty New Orleans
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: twenty seven would have been oh yeah, that's definitely a
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: two comeback game. Javid Ortiz grand slant at night versus Detroit. Yes,
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: but the thing that was, well, wait a minute, slant
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: game is pretty famous. You don't have to be a
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: freak to know that one. But the other one, to
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: me was better because the games were happening simultaneously, and
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: I remember the Patriots were losing. I want to know
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: three you're talking about. Yeah, I think it was. It
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: was either Seattle or Tennessee. They were losing, and Ortiz
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: again was involved, had a huge double. I think the Patriots.
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: I think the Red Sox were down three one in
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: the eighth, they were down two games to one, down
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: three to one in the eighth, and the and the
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: Red Sox got three runs to take a four to
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: three lead, and I think Ortiz had like a bases
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: loaded double that scored the runs and the crowd went
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: crazy at Gillette. Well, the Patriots happened to be losing.
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: I don't remember if it was like shown or if
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: it was just people. No, but people on the phone.
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: You know, people just found out about it, and there
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: was a roar or the crowd while the Patriots were losing,
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: and the Patriots were pissed, like after the game, you
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: know we're getting beaten. Yeah, you know the crowd is chairing. Yeah,
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: that was the game. I remember the comebacks and then
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: the Patriots ultimately came back and won that game. And
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: I think, if I'm not mistaken, Tay Law clinched the
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: game with a pick six that was limping down the side.
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: That was two thousand and three. I want to say,
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: oh three, Yes, they beat Tennessee that year in October
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: early October thirty eight thirty okay, that that that's the game.
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: Is there a Seattle game in there that year, home
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: against home against Seattle, No, okay, that's the game then
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: Tennessee that day. I'll bet you if you what's the date,
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: October fifth, Okay, Matt Morrell, look up October oh three,
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: Red Sox and I'll bet you it's game four. Red
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: Sox beat Oakland four to three. It's awesome. It's just
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: it's yeah, thumbs up from Morrel in the booth. That
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: was the That was the two comeback day. I remember,
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: it's almost like he wrote the story and was reading
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: it back to me. That's how That's how his memory was.
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: That's incredible, Paul, It's not really all that it is.
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: It is all that incredible because nobody is not real, No,
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: but that level of detail is what's incredible. Like somebody's saying, yeah,
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: oh I remember that day, like that the Red Sox
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: came back in one and the Patriots came back in one.
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: That would be the memory that most people have. You
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: just read like a box score. It's it's a gift.
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: It's had anything to do with anything that I could
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: benefit from it any way, I know, wouldn't be in
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: my head. No, I know, you know it's in my
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: head right now. Though. Sean in Vancouver because he's been
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: on him. They take a hotline patiently waiting, how are
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: you doing, Sean? Great? Great? Um? You know. I also
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: don't like the tweet, well, the reaction to the Adam
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: Schefter tweets, because I talk about Dwayne Haskins now well yeah,
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: just because the thing about you know, having not succeeded
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: with Washington and Pittsburgh, and because as an improviser, I
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: embraced failure. So I think it's just a strong or
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: too strong a reaction to that, because he's still accomplished
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: a lot, and you got to take chances in life,
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: you know, so you shouldn't really just I don't think
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: people should make that such a negative. I don't know
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: what we're talking about, to be honest, we're talking about
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: who are we making what we're critical of Schefter for
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: the people, the people that were with you. We make
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: it fun of the people that made fun of Schefter,
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: or we make it fun of Schefter'm because I'm fine either.
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: I thought the tweet was like in poor taste, I
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: really did. I just thought the reaction was a little
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: over the top. That's what I agree with you. I
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: just think it's it's over the top. I don't think
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: it's it's necessary to have that kind of of reaction
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: to that, like to say that it's right, Okay, it's important,
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: But the I have a question for you, Paul Um.
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: Would you feel worse if the Patriots at twenty one
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: took Zion Johnson or Um? Would Eric feel worse if
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: they passed on me? Eric would feel worse if they
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: passed on if they if they traded down out of
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: twenty one. You'd feel worse than I would if they
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: took a starting guard. Yeah, probably because Zion Johnson would
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: start a guard, probably in weak one. Yeah, so you
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: would feel worse about and I would. Yeah, I'll try
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: my best to hide it. But is that what happens?
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: Is that? Is that an example of you trying to
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: hide it? No, I'm saying going forward, I will be better,
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: don't don't. I mean, I think it's interesting. I know
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: it brings you some of the best show's history. I agree, Sean. Yeah,
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: I'm gonna feel bad too. I don't want them to
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: trade I mean, I want them to trade down in
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: the second round. If they could maybe trade with say
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: Tampa Bay, like the fifty four for sixty and give
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: them one twenty seven to get back in another pick
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: in the top one hundred. If they can do something
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: like that, that might work. I don't know. I don't know.
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: I think that's where the I think that's where the
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: players are in this draft. Really is that second and
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: third round? Like, yeah, but the higher you get, the
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: better player you're going to get there. I don't know.
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: That's why I think Tampa, But I don't know. I
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: wouldn't be upset with that if you've got another top
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: one hundred pick because they can use a lot of players.
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: They have a lot of needs, right, they do, they do? Sean,
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: You're right, all right, Sean. Thanks thanks for the call um. Yeah,
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: do you think he got his blinker on that whole car?
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: You're hearing that? Hey, hey guy, turn off? Oh my god.
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: You know we were talking about grammatical pet peeves, driving
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: pet peeves, the people who leave the blinker on when
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: they're not turning any Listen, I'm not talking about old
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: not talking about a four al perillo. But that happens.
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: I can't my brother and I if we're going, oh oh,
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: but it happens all the time. How do you not
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: hear the noise in the car? How do you do it?
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: Some of these crysas I don't really make the noise anymore,
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: so it must be even more bad. But like you've
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: made the turn just I mean, it's just the simplest
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: just pulling back on the liver. You're not making the
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: turn anymore. Turn it off? I know, guy. Oh it
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: drives me up a wall. Uh. Chris with a c
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: I N writes back that that game we were talking
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: about an oh, three call and a write in. I
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: like it well because he wants to say that's the
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: Mike Cloud game, that Tennessee game. That's okay. That's how
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: he thinks of okay. Right, So he's got a name
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: for two long touchdown well at least one long touchdown run.
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: Hey you you get off of Mike Cloud? Yeah? Nice? Remember,
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: and I get mocked for knowing the scores of the games.
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: We all have our things, guy, we all have our things.
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: Another game from Ramon and tip of the games are
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: coming fast today, Paul, uh seems like a great day
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: to fire these off. Yes, indeed three of them one, well,
- 1:39:22Speaker 1: actually just two. Would you rather have all five Boston teams?
- 1:39:27Speaker 1: He's including the Reps. I guess I wouldn't you? When
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: it's would you rather have all five of them win
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: a championship the same year, which which came close to
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: happening a couple of times. Or the Pats set a
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: record maybe most franchise wins that doesn't get broken in
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: your lifetime. I think I'd rather Do you need to
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: know what the record? What's the record? Well, he's he's
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: saying as an example, maybe most franchise wins. I mean
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: they kind of already did that though, right, I mean
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: that kind of sid stuff doesn't excite me if you're
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: telling me, would I'd rather have all five winners win
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: a championship or like the Patriots win so many super
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: Bowls that it's all time most ever, then I would
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: take the Patriots. Yeah, but I think he means like
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: a team record, maybe not like a super Bowl kind
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: of record, but like a yeah, I would I would
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: take I would take five as well. I mean, I
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: grew up here, these are my teams. I would like
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: to see them all win. Yeah. I mean there were
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: a lot of years though, where like maybe not the
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: exact same year, but like you know, Red Sox winning at,
- 1:40:34Speaker 1: Patriots winning at Celtics were winning, and the Bruins were
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: in the right, Like you know, there's there's some oddities involved,
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: like in eleven and again I don't know if it
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: like counts like, but they won um like they lost
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: in the Super Bowl in two thousand and eleven. Ye,
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: they won the Stanley Cup in two thousand and eleven. Ye,
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: the Celtics were fully capable of winning it all in
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: two thousand and eleven, they got derailed by some injuries
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: and whatnot. And um, the Red Sox had on paper,
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: quote Boston Herald the best team ever in twenty eleven
- 1:41:14Speaker 1: that got done in by the chicken and beer scandal
- 1:41:16Speaker 1: and they fell apart in September. Yeah, so like that's
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: a year that legitimately could have happened, right, even though
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: they only won one right. Yeah, And the past twenty
- 1:41:26Speaker 1: years just Boston sports in general has been just so
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: like if you lived in another part of the country,
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: there's a reason why you hated Boston so much because
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: like every time you looked every new sports season every
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: then they put on TV is like that guy from
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: the commercial, right, Like, probably no one's like that here,
- 1:41:41Speaker 1: but that's I mean, that's what the one with Boston
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: Dynamics and the Robots. Yeah, I mean that's what we're
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: known for. Is like obnoxious, boorish behavior. Yeah, you know
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: myself myself now notwithstanding company excluded. Right, all right, another game.
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: Who's considered the top or most revered coach and player
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: in all of Boston? Of all time? Most revered coach
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: and player, I mean Brady's the most revered player. Um,
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: there was a time I think he's he's taken a
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: run at given the title away you'll say, trying, trying, Yeah,
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: but I don't think anybody ever means the popularity of
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: Tom Brady. Larry Bird would have been at before Ted Williams,
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: like David like, I mean, there are guys that would
- 1:42:27Speaker 1: be you know, Bob, Bobby or is probably two yeah. Um,
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: but I don't think anybody ever eclips Tom Brady. Coach
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: is tougher coach. I think you'd probably go Red arback
- 1:42:40Speaker 1: m hm and Bill, Yeah, obviously if we're going together,
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: it's it's it's no brainer. It's Bill and Tom. Oh. Yeah,
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: I think he means I think he meant separately. Yeah,
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: if you go in separate, I think you can make
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: an argument for Red m Um. You know Bill Russell
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: and Red together. Yeah. Yeah. I can't think of any
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: like memorable like Bruins coaches, even though like in the
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: seventies they were they were still pretty good. And PAULI,
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: who oh and who would and would you say that
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: Tiger is the most loved athlete of all time? Tiger? No?
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: I think Tiger's a pretty polarizing guy. Yeah. I think
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: a lot of people either love him are hate him. Yeah,
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: the most love athlete of all time? Maybe Jordan. Pooh,
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: that's a good one. That's a good one because he
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: transcended the sports. He transcended sports, like like Lebron has
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: his detractors. Oh yeah, Jordan didn't really like everybody, you know,
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: like even they won so much, people rooted against the bulls. Yeah,
- 1:43:46Speaker 1: but they didn't hate him, but they didn't really hate him.
- 1:43:48Speaker 1: It was like, I think, recognizing greatness. Right. Plus he
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: had the I mean the ridiculous expansion of the shoe
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: line and the clothing line, like his logo is now
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: like like teams have uniforms with his logo on it,
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: like you know, the growing up for the dunk, Like
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: that's that's incredible. Yeah, I mean that'd be my pick,
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: I think. Yeah, I don't. I don't know if anybody
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: anybody eclipses that. But Tiger is like there's a lot
- 1:44:18Speaker 1: of people that don't like to yea, Yeah, very I
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: mean very polarizing figure. Maybe not like like I could
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: say Lebron is probably more polar at the time. At
- 1:44:30Speaker 1: you know, in his prime, Jack Nicholas was more revered
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: than Tiger, Like as a golfer, was he Yeah, it
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: just wasn't as popular at the time and it wasn't
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: wasn't as popular. You mean, yeah, it wasn't like a
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: worldwide phenomenon the way it is now, like with the
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: Internet and all that stuff. I mean, you know, obviously
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: the sport was international, yeah, but not as it wasn't
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: as popular, I don't think as it is. But they
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: had great personalities in golf back in those days, with
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: with Nicholas and Palmer and Gary Player and future Vino
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: and you know Tom Watson. I mean, I know you're
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: probably gonna laugh at this one, but Pelle might be
- 1:45:10Speaker 1: another one that's up there. Now. Soccer guys are the
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: answers to these questions worldwide because they're the only ones
- 1:45:16Speaker 1: that have like that kind of international appear I mean,
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: Jordan I think has a big internation. Why he transcends, Yeah,
- 1:45:22Speaker 1: that's why, you know. But I just think that it's
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: the soccer the soccer guys, you know, like I think
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: if you had those those kinds of things now, they'll
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: tell you Ronaldo is the most popular athlete today. Yeah, right,
- 1:45:35Speaker 1: probably he's. I think he goes on the tops of
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: those polls. Yeah, and he's and he's like almost getting
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: into Brady territory with how old he is and still playing. So, um, hey,
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: we saw the Celtics before. I'm gonna add this one
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: into what what do you think about their playoff chances.
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: I'd like it better if they could get Robert Williams
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: back out there. But yeah, they should. I mean, they're
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: playing great, They've been playing great for three months. They
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: should be. They should be in good shape. I would
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: like to see Cleveland win tonight. Yeah, get Brooklyn out
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: of the way, but I'm not not counting on that. Yeah,
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: they're they're Brooklyn stacked, right. I mean, Brooklyn has been
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: a disappointment all year, but they've been banged U two.
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: They have Durant and they have Kyrie, and if they're
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: both at their best, yeah, um, they're capable of beating you.
- 1:46:27Speaker 1: Just with those two guys. All right, back to the phones.
- 1:46:30Speaker 1: Rashad's in Baltimore on the A Sticket hotline. What's up, Hey,
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: what's up? What's up? What's up? Um? First part, I
- 1:46:38Speaker 1: gotta say, I love your history because one of my
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: questions had to do with twenty twelve, but two already
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: answered with the Patriots played in the playoffs. But I
- 1:46:46Speaker 1: want to ask what besides Patriots, what non Patriot games,
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: playoffs or super Bowl with the best show ever seen.
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: I'll start the mind the best non super Bowl that
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: I've seen with the Ravens and the Broncos twenty twelve.
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: That game even that was a great game. Game. That
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: was that great game. Yeah, yeah, yeah. To Jacobe Jones,
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: that was a great game. That was a good game.
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: Good call, good call. And the probably in the super
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: Bowl was probably the Steelers in the Cardinals. Oh, that
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: was a good game too. Patriot super Bowl. Oh that's
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: the only known paper super Bowl that if game. I mean,
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: sometimes the recency bias get you. But like the Kansas
- 1:47:32Speaker 1: City Buffalo game, that was a tremendous game. Yes, it riveting. Yeah,
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: I mean I don't think I really wasn't a fan
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: of that just because I just I don't like Buffalo.
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: I know, you got to respect them, but I don't
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: like Buffalo. So I didn't really watch that game like
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: that because I don't really enjoy them, and I don't
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: like Kansas City either, So it was like a lose
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: lose win win situation. I mean, there were I'm going
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: back a little bit now, but there were some playoff
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: games between the Niners and cow Boys back in the
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: early nineties, during the Aikman and Jimmy Johnson era. That
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: were pretty good. Yeah, I mean I'm trying to think. Yeah,
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: I mean that Kansas City Buffalo game was amazing this year,
- 1:48:13Speaker 1: and I was rooting for both teams every time they
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: got the ball to score. It was kind of a fun,
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: fun fourth quarter. That's Super Bowl, Yeah, like the Lord
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: just the spy question. Um, so the bigger mistake Asante
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: Samby dropping that pick on the Super Bowl or West
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: Welker dropping a pick in that Super Bowl. I mean,
- 1:48:42Speaker 1: I mean, I would say Welker, but I just I
- 1:48:46Speaker 1: put the Welker one more on Brady. Yeah. I just
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: think Welker had more of a chance to catch the
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: ball than Assante did. And it was a little high,
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: wasn't it. The Asante one? Oh yeah, you had to
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: jump for one off his fingertips. Yeah, it's but I
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: hate I hate blaming Welker for that. I hate that
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: they call it the Welker drop because it was as
- 1:49:04Speaker 1: bad a throw as it was a bad catch. I love,
- 1:49:08Speaker 1: I mean, I love I love I love Welker, I
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: love Worker, I love everything he did. I don't really
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: like the slander him. I don't really like to know,
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: like talk about the best up he did because he
- 1:49:17Speaker 1: was a beast. He was a beast. He was a beast.
- 1:49:19Speaker 1: Even when Brady wasn't there, I think he still had
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: over a thousand yards and like over ten touchdowns. Yeah,
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: he had a great year in no way. Yeah one
- 1:49:28Speaker 1: hundred and twenty four catches. I had twenty three catches
- 1:49:30Speaker 1: or something like that. Yeah, even yeah coming off the
- 1:49:33Speaker 1: injury too. Oh no, oh wait, I'm sorry, Oh wait, yeah,
- 1:49:36Speaker 1: oh wait, oh wait here, all right, rashand anything else. Um,
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: I guess one more thing about maybe about the draft.
- 1:49:45Speaker 1: I wouldn't I wouldn't be I wouldn't be opposed in
- 1:49:47Speaker 1: trading down, just due to the fact that it's so
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: many it's so many needs, and like it's so many
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: holes to fill. I mean, I want them to draft,
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: I want them to draft impact play in the first round.
- 1:49:59Speaker 1: But I wouldn't be I wouldn't be mad if they
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: did trade down, not this year, just all the stuff
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: that I've seen, especially that playoff game. You just you
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: just you need you need to add more, you need
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: to add more athleticism, speed. So I would be mad,
- 1:50:14Speaker 1: but I wouldn't be You know, I would be fine
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: with them trade down. Yeah, I'm I'm resigned to it.
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: If they make a pick, I'll be pleasantly surprised. At
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: this point, I need to see what's available. But yeah,
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: on the surface, I agree with you with shout. I
- 1:50:27Speaker 1: don't think you'll be a terrible move to trade down.
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: All right, Thanks, all right, thanks for the call. Get
- 1:50:34Speaker 1: another email in here before we take another call. It's
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: Jake from Bendigo, Australia. Goday, mate, got a hypothetical for you.
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: Since we're talking draft, here's one. Instead of players, we're
- 1:50:45Speaker 1: taking coaches. Who would you go if all offensive and
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: defensive head coaches were available in a draft like system,
- 1:50:54Speaker 1: needing one of each meme coordinators? Is that what he means?
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: You think? So? Who would I like to have? I
- 1:51:01Speaker 1: mean obviously but defense? Obviously, Bill you want as your
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: head coach? But is he talking about like assistance? That
- 1:51:08Speaker 1: is that obvious? Now? M Sue Bedford wasn't here. I
- 1:51:12Speaker 1: could go off on twenty minutes on that. Uh so
- 1:51:16Speaker 1: an offensive coordinator of my choosing, I don't know McVeigh man.
- 1:51:25Speaker 1: You know he's a head coach, but that would be
- 1:51:27Speaker 1: my choice or Andy Reid, but they're head coaches. Don't
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: know if they count. Yeah, I'm the way he's wording it,
- 1:51:35Speaker 1: I'm not sure if that's what he means defensively, Just
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: anybody who's really aggressive defensively, Um, Salah Roberts. Yeah, Uh,
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: it's tougher. Yeah, it is tougher. And I'm not thinking
- 1:51:56Speaker 1: of some of the coordinators now, I mean, what's his face?
- 1:52:01Speaker 1: That did a great dan Quinn did a great job
- 1:52:03Speaker 1: in in Dallas. But I don't like it. But I
- 1:52:05Speaker 1: don't like that, like I mean, I don't know how
- 1:52:06Speaker 1: much he still does the same thing that they did
- 1:52:08Speaker 1: in Seattle. Yeah, which is great when you have that
- 1:52:10Speaker 1: personnel like that cover three zone you know that. I
- 1:52:14Speaker 1: mean it worked when you had Cam Chancellor and Earl
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: Thomas and at Prime Richard Sherman. They were ghetting everything
- 1:52:19Speaker 1: in sight Browner, But I don't think it's worked as
- 1:52:22Speaker 1: well over the last you know, eight years or so. Yeah,
- 1:52:26Speaker 1: what did you think of Lebo? The zone blitz is
- 1:52:31Speaker 1: obviously an innovative. Um, Yeah, he was really good for
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: a long time, long time. I like the aggressiveness of
- 1:52:37Speaker 1: going after the quarterback in big plays. Um. Also, how
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: come you guys get behind soccer and not The Australian
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: Football League AFL is a much better watch than soccer.
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: Highly recommended if you're not into it. I agree, but
- 1:52:50Speaker 1: I'm not have seen it. I'm on it's either one,
- 1:52:52Speaker 1: but I agree that it's more action than soccer. Have
- 1:52:55Speaker 1: you ever seen Australian? Yeah, football, it's used to be.
- 1:52:58Speaker 1: I don't think it is anymore. I don't know if
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: I've ever seen the Australian Is that Australian rules football?
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: Is that? What? Yeah? I think that's what he's talking about.
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: When when we were younger and ESPN was sort of
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: in its infancy, they had all kinds of program and
- 1:53:09Speaker 1: just to fill the space and that was on all
- 1:53:11Speaker 1: the time. Stuff like that. We used to fool around
- 1:53:14Speaker 1: and do that at practice in football. Oh yeah, all right,
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: take one more call here. It's Ben in Pittsfield on
- 1:53:19Speaker 1: the ticket hot line. Hello Ben, guys, you tell us
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: what's on your bout? Three? I got three things. One
- 1:53:28Speaker 1: of them. The last episode I couldn't call in It
- 1:53:30Speaker 1: was about Grammar. It was just about Paul. I hear
- 1:53:33Speaker 1: Paul say. I would agree so much, but I don't
- 1:53:37Speaker 1: think that is correct up on my chest the whole weekend. Yeah,
- 1:53:45Speaker 1: I would agree, Yeah, I agree with that. Is that better?
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: Is that better? Is that? Hey? Let me ask you this, Ben,
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: Is that is that more better? Is that more betterish?
- 1:54:00Speaker 1: But so two things that I've been thinking about over
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: the weekend, And I mean, if you guys know, I've
- 1:54:05Speaker 1: called them before. I'm a big receiver guy, but I'm
- 1:54:09Speaker 1: not a post Like, if there's any good receivers left,
- 1:54:11Speaker 1: Kansas City and Green Bay are gonna want to trade down,
- 1:54:15Speaker 1: Like if they give us a sweet deal, I am
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: so okay with you know, taking Like even if Kansas
- 1:54:21Speaker 1: City was going to trade with us, what kind of
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: a sweet deal? What are you talking about? Well, so
- 1:54:26Speaker 1: Kansas City has two first rounds. I believe um they
- 1:54:29Speaker 1: had like twenty eight and twenty nine. Even if they
- 1:54:32Speaker 1: had just said, here, you take our twenty So say
- 1:54:34Speaker 1: Jamison Williams is at twenty one, and as much as
- 1:54:37Speaker 1: I would like Jamison Williams, the Kansas City says, here,
- 1:54:41Speaker 1: do you take twenty eight and our second one or
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: one or two of our second round picks and we'll
- 1:54:45Speaker 1: get to twenty one, and then they're guaranteed to get
- 1:54:47Speaker 1: Jamison Williams. I would be okay with that. Um Like, Yeah,
- 1:54:53Speaker 1: it's just you can't guarantee that. I'm not opposed to
- 1:54:56Speaker 1: trading down. You know, everybody talks about this draft doesn't
- 1:55:00Speaker 1: have a lot of star power in the first round,
- 1:55:03Speaker 1: and you know, adding some picks in the sweet spot
- 1:55:05Speaker 1: quote unquote, you know in day two. I think there's
- 1:55:09Speaker 1: some merit to that. Absolutely, I'm not opposed to. I
- 1:55:13Speaker 1: would agree with that. Well done, Zion Johnson. I've got
- 1:55:17Speaker 1: sentimental value just because of Boston College. I'm going next year,
- 1:55:21Speaker 1: so I got I would get his jersey if we
- 1:55:23Speaker 1: drafted him. But I think we got a trade down.
- 1:55:25Speaker 1: You're just going to going to college next year as
- 1:55:28Speaker 1: a freshman. Wow. Yeah, I'm going to be a freshman.
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: Ye wow, I'm getting my grammar corrected. Player a senior
- 1:55:33Speaker 1: in high school, Well, he's a lot more closer to
- 1:55:36Speaker 1: its more. No, I just I mean, here's my thing, though,
- 1:55:41Speaker 1: is it's just as much as we want the really
- 1:55:45Speaker 1: good receiver and the star player if we can get, like,
- 1:55:48Speaker 1: I'd rather three good players than one amazing player. Oh,
- 1:55:53Speaker 1: I'd rather have one amazing player. I totally disagree. Yeah,
- 1:55:56Speaker 1: I just don't think that you have much of a
- 1:55:57Speaker 1: chance of getting an amazing player at twenty one. That's
- 1:56:00Speaker 1: what I mean. If the amazing player is Jamison Williams
- 1:56:03Speaker 1: is going to sit for a year where I feel
- 1:56:04Speaker 1: like we're better off getting like three, you know, even
- 1:56:08Speaker 1: like I said, like if we were able to trade,
- 1:56:09Speaker 1: you know, do a trade and we go to twenty
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: nine or something, twenty eight or twenty nine, we're still
- 1:56:14Speaker 1: going to get someone good there. You know, it's just
- 1:56:16Speaker 1: not it's going to be instead of it being, oh,
- 1:56:19Speaker 1: we'd be in a cornerback, let's get the best one
- 1:56:20Speaker 1: on the board, it's going to be who's the best
- 1:56:23Speaker 1: player left, whether it's a guard, whether it's a linebacker,
- 1:56:27Speaker 1: whether it's a cornerback. And I think like we're in
- 1:56:29Speaker 1: the physition we're in. We're okay to do that if
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: it gets us more draft capital and second round, third round. Um,
- 1:56:36Speaker 1: but yeah, I just feel like we need the picks.
- 1:56:41Speaker 1: Twenty one. We're kind of at that spot where things
- 1:56:45Speaker 1: might be gone. You know, we're kind of on the
- 1:56:47Speaker 1: edge of a lot of good players left and maybe
- 1:56:49Speaker 1: they're all taken. And I feel just like I'm not
- 1:56:53Speaker 1: optimistic about I'm not optimistic about that twenty one. Yeah, well,
- 1:56:58Speaker 1: I just would rather close that gap, the talent gap
- 1:57:01Speaker 1: between them, and yeah, it's it's hard. I like, I
- 1:57:03Speaker 1: could definitely see both sides, but I am not. I'm
- 1:57:06Speaker 1: not opposed to tradeing down. But mark my words, if
- 1:57:10Speaker 1: they drafted Zion, I will get a jersey. Now. I
- 1:57:12Speaker 1: believe you everything. I believe you. Yeah, what what are
- 1:57:15Speaker 1: you going to major in? Do you know? Um? I'm
- 1:57:18Speaker 1: in I'm in the business school, but I'm undecided right now.
- 1:57:21Speaker 1: So hopefully things go well, but maybe I'll become like
- 1:57:24Speaker 1: sports management. You're an incoming freshman. Yeah, so you're graduating
- 1:57:29Speaker 1: high school right now. Yeah. So we're taking an analytical
- 1:57:34Speaker 1: call on our show from from an individual that's a
- 1:57:37Speaker 1: year older than myself. I can't. I can't clows me
- 1:57:40Speaker 1: away because I have chemistry blows me away. All right, Ben,
- 1:57:46Speaker 1: I really appreciate the call. All right, good love luck,
- 1:57:48Speaker 1: good luck. Ben. We'll talk to you at the draft,
- 1:57:51Speaker 1: all right, and we will talk to the rest of you.
- 1:57:53Speaker 1: Imagine that seriously, Like Will always tells me what I
- 1:57:57Speaker 1: don't know, but well sure, yeah, but he's calling into
- 1:58:00Speaker 1: our radio show with like logical thought out all thought yep,
- 1:58:07Speaker 1: reasoned arguments, draft analysis. Yeah, and I'm listening to it
- 1:58:12Speaker 1: as opposed to what would be happening here. I think
- 1:58:13Speaker 1: his voice throws you off a little bit. Here. Always
- 1:58:15Speaker 1: got good pipes. You should be communications. I'm just gonna
- 1:58:17Speaker 1: say that. But then it's a business. Don't waste to
- 1:58:20Speaker 1: tell us. I don't need any more competition. But yeah,
- 1:58:24Speaker 1: that kind of blew me away a little bit. Not
- 1:58:26Speaker 1: gonna lie, not gonna lie, dog, I was taken aback.
- 1:58:29Speaker 1: I would agree with that and that and with that,
- 1:58:32Speaker 1: we will see you on Thursday. We're gonna have well,
- 1:58:35Speaker 1: we won't see you on Thursday. Probably gonna be big timing.
- 1:58:37Speaker 1: I won't see you on Thursday, but I'll probably be
- 1:58:40Speaker 1: in the terminal waiting for my Actually Thursday's questionable at
- 1:58:43Speaker 1: this point, but we'll see you at some point in
- 1:58:44Speaker 1: the near future. Thank you for downloading this podcast. Subscribe
