- 0:01Speaker 1: You're on News Talk CB. It is twenty seven minutes
- 0:03Speaker 1: after five. I felt bad watching those eight rounds in
- 0:07Speaker 1: the ring with Mike Tyson de Duw. I felt bad
- 0:09Speaker 1: for him, the fifty eight year old. What on earth
- 0:10Speaker 1: was he doing in there? Twenty million US dollars from
- 0:13Speaker 1: Netflix Apparently that's what they paid him. That's what he
- 0:16Speaker 1: was doing there. His net worths about ten million. He
- 0:18Speaker 1: went bankrupt a few years ago. Of course we went
- 0:20Speaker 1: to prison. Was worth three hundred million. Anyway, he needed money,
- 0:23Speaker 1: poor old Mike Tyson. And Netflix paid the other guy,
- 0:26Speaker 1: Jake Paul forty million dollars. Gate ticket sales. Gate ticket
- 0:32Speaker 1: sales are from AT and T Stadium brought in close
- 0:35Speaker 1: to US eighteen million dollars and seventy thousand fans. And
- 0:41Speaker 1: Netflix will they won the fight with sixty five million
- 0:45Speaker 1: viewers at peak. It's part of a new strategy that
- 0:47Speaker 1: they've got to get live sport events to their subscribers,
- 0:50Speaker 1: including those that are paying less but getting fed ads
- 0:53Speaker 1: on the platform. This is their clever strategy. So their
- 0:56Speaker 1: ad supported flip platform now accounts for fifty percent of
- 1:00Speaker 1: their new sign ups. It's grown to seventy million new
- 1:03Speaker 1: US in newss in just two years. It's credible. These
- 1:07Speaker 1: big tech bro Silicon Valley giant media companies, you know,
- 1:11Speaker 1: YouTube's all of those types. They're just going from strength
- 1:14Speaker 1: to strength, aren't they. And they're the ones that have
- 1:16Speaker 1: our attention. There are one, two, and three most streamed
- 1:19Speaker 1: in New Zealand and yet we here in New Zealand
- 1:21Speaker 1: and Australia are trying to force them into news content
- 1:25Speaker 1: deals with us. We're battling with taxpayers cash to reinvigorate
- 1:29Speaker 1: failing state media companies to compete with these guys and
- 1:32Speaker 1: are doomed to fail battle. We're like the fifty eight
- 1:35Speaker 1: year old Mike Tyson who apparently nearly died before entering
- 1:38Speaker 1: the ring. They are the annoying twenty seven year old
- 1:42Speaker 1: new to boxing but bringing in the eyeballs Jake Paul,
- 1:45Speaker 1: these big tech companies. So what do we need to do?
- 1:48Speaker 1: Keep fighting, get more bloodied, get more bruised, or create
- 1:52Speaker 1: partnerships and try and get our content to their eyeballs.
- 1:58Speaker 1: For more from Early Edition with Ryan Bread which listen
- 2:00Speaker 1: live to news talks. It'd be from five am weekdays,
- 2:04Speaker 1: or follow the podcast on iHeartRadio
