Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, Branko.
- 0:01Speaker 2: G'day. How you going, Ali?
- 0:02Speaker 1: I'm good.
- 0:03Speaker 2: I love that. I'm just happy that I'm the interviewee
- 0:08Speaker 2: for a change, not the interviewer.
- 0:10Speaker 1: Oh, so, yeah, because you work for Triple Z too,
- 0:12Speaker 1: don't you?
- 0:13Speaker 2: Yeah, Triple Z. I have a breakfast show on Triple Z.
- 0:15Speaker 2: I've been there for 15 years.
- 0:17Speaker 1: And I love the name of it too.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Is it.
- 0:21Speaker 3: Unnecessary knowledge? I'm like, that is so, up my alley,
- 0:24Speaker 3: top of the pond.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it is. It is. My old co-host ages
- 0:30Speaker 2: ago thought I knew way too much about music. She
- 0:34Speaker 2: named it. It stuck.
- 0:36Speaker 3: I say I have a brain that retains absolutely useless
- 0:39Speaker 3: pieces of information and nothing necessary. Yep.
- 0:42Speaker 1: So that's me, 100%.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, amen.
- 0:46Speaker 1: And you would know my dear friend, Catch, as well.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Used to be it.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Was there oh man uh was it i was gonna
- 0:54Speaker 2: say was he fat tape back in.
- 0:55Speaker 1: The day yes he was the fat tape show yes.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Amen yeah yeah and of course through um.
- 1:01Speaker 3: Resin dogs as well yes yes yes well welcome to
- 1:03Speaker 3: heavy mag thank you you are part of the um
- 1:06Speaker 3: the band tape off which i have been fortunate enough
- 1:08Speaker 3: to catch in the past yeah you guys played a
- 1:12Speaker 3: show with screen feeder back at the iron and resin
- 1:14Speaker 3: i think it was the end of last year after
- 1:16Speaker 3: said 50 yeah um i swung.
- 1:18Speaker 1: By there briefly and Caught everybody.
- 1:20Speaker 3: So, yes, and you are now going to be part
- 1:24Speaker 3: of Z51, which is so bloody awesome.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Paulie's done it again.
- 1:27Speaker 2: He has.
- 1:28Speaker 1: I love that. He's a weapon.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Absolutely has. I've heard through the grapevine of the list
- 1:35Speaker 2: of bands he was pulling together and I was hoping
- 1:39Speaker 2: that he would ask us.
- 1:40Speaker 1: It was hard to keep a secret, wasn't it?
- 1:42Speaker 3: Because he told me back in February when the Girds
- 1:45Speaker 3: were doing.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Their tour, he goes, oh, I'm thinking of that Z51
- 1:48Speaker 1: and I'm like... Oh, yes, do it.
- 1:51Speaker 3: And obviously him not knowing whether he could pull it
- 1:53Speaker 3: off with the tour and everything else, but it works
- 1:56Speaker 3: his magic, doesn't he?
- 1:57Speaker 2: Absolutely. He's the man of the hour and he keeps
- 1:59Speaker 2: it absolutely real.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Doesn't he?
- 2:02Speaker 3: That's why I think he's such a likeable guy. He's
- 2:04Speaker 3: so humble and so lovely and just huge gratitude. The
- 2:07Speaker 3: way he does stuff is how it should be done.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Indeed. And what a line-up though.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Wow.
- 2:14Speaker 1: What a line-up.
- 2:16Speaker 2: There's nothing there that I'm not excited about, put it
- 2:20Speaker 2: that way.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Likewise.
- 2:23Speaker 3: I just about fell off the chair when I read
- 2:25Speaker 3: the email and I'm like, what?
- 2:27Speaker 2: Last year was a wholesome day.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Oh, wasn't it beautiful? It was so good.
- 2:32Speaker 2: Loved it. Perfect weather.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Energy-wise too, it was just, oh, it's so hard.
- 2:38Speaker 3: It's even hard to put into words, but it just
- 2:40Speaker 3: was so collective throughout the artists, the people there.
- 2:43Speaker 1: It was just. so you had to be there.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Really god bless we get to do it again.
- 2:50Speaker 3: Absolutely much looking forward to it and utilizing the parklands
- 2:53Speaker 3: which i believe is a bit underutilized in music scene
- 2:56Speaker 3: what had been obviously back in the day but i
- 2:58Speaker 3: think it's uh gets overlooked here and there and um Obviously,
- 3:02Speaker 3: not at the Parklands has been good for it.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Yeah. I used to live at Red Hill and sometimes
- 3:07Speaker 2: I'd walk through it to get to the city.
- 3:10Speaker 1: It's going to be much fit to get there, though.
- 3:11Speaker 1: It's up a hill. I don't like that.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Yeah. I can't remember how many steps I clocked up
- 3:17Speaker 2: last year, but it was a lot because I was
- 3:18Speaker 2: going between both stages. And I'd always dreamt about an
- 3:24Speaker 2: event happening there. And just like you, I just thought
- 3:27Speaker 2: this is a crime that there is not more events here. Yeah.
- 3:30Speaker 2: I always imagined somebody like Mogwai, like some massive post-rock
- 3:34Speaker 2: band or something like that coming out of there. Yeah,
- 3:37Speaker 2: I never thought it would happen. And then Z50, they
- 3:40Speaker 2: pulled it off.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Yes.
- 3:42Speaker 3: And what a bloody awesome thing to celebrate too, 50
- 3:45Speaker 3: years of community radio. And you guys are quite popular
- 3:48Speaker 3: for community radio because sometimes it's a bit of a,
- 3:51Speaker 3: you know, it falls down by the wayside with the commercials,
- 3:54Speaker 3: I think, in other capital cities. But this is a
- 3:58Speaker 3: forgerable Z of, Just keep on going.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Keep it real.
- 4:01Speaker 2: I think sometimes community radio actually challenges commercial radio in
- 4:10Speaker 2: more ways than we kind of see. Commercial radio has
- 4:15Speaker 2: the rating system as well as the ABC and SBS
- 4:18Speaker 2: as well. Community radio don't have any of that. But
- 4:21Speaker 2: if you count up all of the subscribers and all
- 4:23Speaker 2: that kind of stuff, they keep.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Them on air.
- 4:26Speaker 2: I don't know, man. It punches above its weight commercially.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Yeah, for sure.
- 4:31Speaker 3: Without any injection, you know, from advertising and all the
- 4:35Speaker 3: rest of it, it's keeping it real.
- 4:38Speaker 1: And we love that.
- 4:38Speaker 3: And it's one of the last things left, isn't it,
- 4:41Speaker 3: of our community and that era, you know, other than
- 4:44Speaker 3: the vinyl research, which we all love that.
- 4:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:48Speaker 3: It's just being radio is something. My pa used to
- 4:50Speaker 3: listen to The Wallace, as he'd say. And, you know,
- 4:54Speaker 3: a lot of people don't necessarily listen to radio anymore.
- 4:57Speaker 3: And it's good to know that there are still people
- 5:00Speaker 3: out there doing it and listeners and, you know, can
- 5:02Speaker 3: stream it online now on whatever device you've got, which
- 5:04Speaker 3: is really cool and makes it a bit easier.
- 5:06Speaker 1: But, yeah.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Yeah, and thank you to people like yourself and Heavy
- 5:10Speaker 2: Mag as well that still keep interviews alive as well
- 5:13Speaker 2: because that's a dying art, sadly.
- 5:15Speaker 3: Well, I'm a journalist who got put out to pasture
- 5:17Speaker 3: when the old mastheads got put to rest, didn't they?
- 5:19Speaker 3: So interviewing skills and all that, it's been doing it
- 5:23Speaker 3: forever and now I get to do the two loves
- 5:24Speaker 3: of my life of talking and music and it's like
- 5:28Speaker 3: it's all congruent. So it's been very grateful to do
- 5:31Speaker 3: what I do and I speak daily to artists across
- 5:34Speaker 3: the globe and I love it. I love the small
- 5:36Speaker 3: unknowns and the massive big names too. It's just as much,
- 5:39Speaker 3: it's just a goodness. It's about good banter, isn't it?
- 5:42Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Unnecessary knowledge.
- 5:43Speaker 3: I'm not one, as you would imagine. I don't ask
- 5:45Speaker 3: the normal questions. I will chat about anything. I think
- 5:48Speaker 3: that's what people like about it.
- 5:50Speaker 1: And so, yeah, it's good.
- 5:52Speaker 2: It is.
- 5:52Speaker 3: It's interviewing and just good journalism, I think, is a
- 5:55Speaker 3: thing of the past, hasn't it? It's definitely not what
- 5:59Speaker 3: it used to be when I read it and cringe
- 6:02Speaker 3: as I, the bad.
- 6:05Speaker 2: Bad everything yeah it's uh it was seriously i think
- 6:10Speaker 2: a lot of people let go of the reins of
- 6:12Speaker 2: quality a bit there and then the landslide you.
- 6:16Speaker 3: Know that has to be you know be on first
- 6:18Speaker 3: and you got you know just junior editor um junior
- 6:21Speaker 3: journalists you know subbing their own stuff to put it
- 6:23Speaker 3: up online to be out there and it's just like
- 6:26Speaker 3: you say quality quality went to the dogs it really
- 6:30Speaker 3: did amen but here we are talking music doing the
- 6:33Speaker 3: good stuff you are in cool band called Tape Off. Now,
- 6:36Speaker 3: how would you describe yourselves? You guys have been around
- 6:38Speaker 3: for a little bit doing it, haven't you?
- 6:40Speaker 2: Been over, been around since 2009. It's very easy to,
- 6:47Speaker 2: I guess, put a label of slacker rock because a
- 6:50Speaker 2: lot of our... I like that.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Don't know what you want to just create one. We
- 6:54Speaker 1: love that.
- 6:54Speaker 2: It's a lot of our favourite music that we grew
- 6:56Speaker 2: up on was of that ilk where there weren't super
- 7:00Speaker 2: overdriven guitars. There were cleaner guitars, but.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Almost like melodic pop, you know, rock almost. Yeah, yeah.
- 7:07Speaker 2: So a lot of examples would be locally bands like
- 7:11Speaker 2: Gaslight Radio.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Oh, I love it, yeah.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Yeah, overseas, Pavement, Sonic Youth, bands of that ilk.
- 7:19Speaker 3: A name I haven't heard for a long time, Gaslight Radio.
- 7:23Speaker 3: My brother was in a uni band and their first
- 7:25Speaker 3: gig at O-Week was with Gaslight.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Radio and I have it on my wall still, the
- 7:28Speaker 1: little poster.
- 7:29Speaker 2: Awesome, awesome.
- 7:30Speaker 1: It's very cool.
- 7:31Speaker 2: Like Sandpit and Pollen and... Yeah, all those bands. We
- 7:36Speaker 2: were all massive fans. And they were just the kind
- 7:38Speaker 2: of bands that they did get loud, but they just
- 7:41Speaker 2: did it with super clean tones.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 7:44Speaker 2: And when we started as a drummer, I was like
- 7:48Speaker 2: a massive Zeppelin head, as a lot of drummers sort
- 7:50Speaker 2: of are. And I was like, how can we mix
- 7:53Speaker 2: the clean guitars with the big drums?
- 7:56Speaker 1: The messy drums, yeah.
- 7:57Speaker 2: That was sort of the start of the sound, and
- 8:00Speaker 2: it's just grown over the years.
- 8:02Speaker 1: Yeah, nice, nice.
- 8:03Speaker 3: And obviously we... absolutely enjoy doing what you do. And
- 8:06Speaker 3: you guys obviously do originals. You got anything that you've
- 8:09Speaker 3: released recently or looking at getting back out there or
- 8:12Speaker 3: are you just rehashing the stuff that you've done?
- 8:14Speaker 2: So the album that we put out last year, Fought Sensible,
- 8:17Speaker 2: we were all super proud of because it was the
- 8:21Speaker 2: most organic process that we had crystallised into going. I
- 8:26Speaker 2: think we finally figured out how to be the band
- 8:28Speaker 2: that we wanted to be. But we have talked about redoing,
- 8:34Speaker 2: not so much redoing, but potentially remixing our first album. Yeah, yeah.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Which came out in 2014. It's so long ago now.
- 8:43Speaker 2: But when you're a band that sticks around for so long,
- 8:47Speaker 2: you do think about, you know, the circumstances where those
- 8:50Speaker 2: early albums come out and your ears grow older as well.
- 8:54Speaker 2: You think, yeah. You know what, with technology these days.
- 8:56Speaker 1: Remix is great.
- 8:57Speaker 3: It gives you that chance to inject something different into it, re-release,
- 9:00Speaker 3: get some new traction and, like you say, just have
- 9:02Speaker 3: a bit of stab at it.
- 9:03Speaker 1: And we all love, you know, a few versions of
- 9:05Speaker 1: the one song.
- 9:06Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. So the songs are still there and
- 9:12Speaker 2: they still hold up. But I know at the time
- 9:14Speaker 2: it was, you know, I was still cutting my teeth
- 9:18Speaker 2: as an engineer. So I don't know. Yeah, it may happen.
- 9:24Speaker 2: It just takes time.
- 9:25Speaker 1: It does. And especially engineering your own stuff too.
- 9:28Speaker 3: Like that's got to be hard, you know, having that
- 9:30Speaker 3: third set of years or what have you come in and, and,
- 9:33Speaker 3: you know, those bits that you might not see or
- 9:36Speaker 3: hear and, and adds that extra that you just go, Oh, fuck. Well,
- 9:40Speaker 3: it's I, I tats off to people who can do it.
- 9:43Speaker 3: I definitely couldn't just because, you know, I struggled just
- 9:47Speaker 3: rewriting the same piece.
- 9:48Speaker 1: You know, I've got to walk away, even editing photos.
- 9:50Speaker 1: I'm like, Oh, just walk away and come back.
- 9:53Speaker 3: So doing your own music, I think that would be,
- 9:56Speaker 3: really hard because, you know, once you get it in
- 9:58Speaker 3: your head like a tune and riff, you know how
- 9:59Speaker 3: it is.
- 9:59Speaker 1: Because you've got to repeat it over and over.
- 10:02Speaker 3: Otherwise you'll forget, shit, what was that riff again that
- 10:04Speaker 3: I was thinking of. So then to take it away
- 10:08Speaker 3: and then add to it and see through that, that's
- 10:11Speaker 3: a superpower I definitely would say.
- 10:14Speaker 2: Yeah, we had a very limited run of vinyl at
- 10:17Speaker 2: the time when it came out. Yeah. A lot of
- 10:19Speaker 2: people have asked us if we'd ever repress it.
- 10:23Speaker 1: It's expensive, that's the only thing.
- 10:26Speaker 2: It is expensive, but I thought it was a bit
- 10:28Speaker 2: of an opportunity to go, maybe let's give it a
- 10:30Speaker 2: new version. The people who were there at the time
- 10:33Speaker 2: and liked it, and they do like it, I think
- 10:38Speaker 2: we kind of leave that snapshot as it is with
- 10:40Speaker 2: those people who were there. Yeah. I think we can
- 10:45Speaker 2: retouch the snapshot, if you will. Yeah. Give it a
- 10:49Speaker 2: new version. It's like it's not impossible to get that record.
- 10:54Speaker 2: It's just if you've got the opportunity, why not go
- 10:58Speaker 2: for it?
- 10:59Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure, for sure.
- 11:01Speaker 3: And that's, you know, sometimes it's just upcycling we call it.
- 11:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:07Speaker 3: Not necessarily reinventing the wheel. We're just improving on what's
- 11:10Speaker 3: already there.
- 11:11Speaker 1: That's awesome.
- 11:11Speaker 3: And so obviously playing Z51, have you got any other
- 11:14Speaker 3: shows that you guys have got coming up or just
- 11:17Speaker 3: keen to get out and?
- 11:18Speaker 1: Do this again.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Well, Z51 is going to be our first show this year. Yeah. Okay.
- 11:25Speaker 2: Remembering that correctly. And, uh, it's pretty, we're going to
- 11:30Speaker 2: make it very special because there's a lot of guests
- 11:33Speaker 2: that we had on this record that haven't, uh, played
- 11:37Speaker 2: with us, you know, in the album launch shows that
- 11:39Speaker 2: we did last year.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Are you guys a four piece?
- 11:41Speaker 2: We're a four piece. Yeah. Correct. And, uh, so we're
- 11:44Speaker 2: thinking of adding some friends to it, to, uh, expand
- 11:49Speaker 2: it out and flesh it out especially on a bigger
- 11:51Speaker 2: stage because for years we've always played in clubs really
- 11:56Speaker 2: we've never we've played at the Tivoli in Yeah. And
- 12:00Speaker 2: the Triffid and stuff like that in the past. And
- 12:03Speaker 2: they're all very nice stages, the biggest stages we've played on.
- 12:06Speaker 2: But playing open air is something we haven't done in
- 12:09Speaker 2: the past. Yeah. And being a loud band.
- 12:13Speaker 1: You're going to love it.
- 12:15Speaker 2: Yeah. There's been times when people haven't maybe enjoyed a
- 12:19Speaker 2: very perfect mix.
- 12:20Speaker 1: I will say, though, last year.
- 12:21Speaker 3: The triangles were literally like rattling off the front and
- 12:24Speaker 3: I was in the pit trying to push them back on. So, yeah,
- 12:28Speaker 3: that's a challenge for you. If you make the triangles
- 12:30Speaker 3: rattle off, then your job has been done.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Absolutely, absolutely. So that's what we're looking forward to, like
- 12:36Speaker 2: a massive open-air show.
- 12:37Speaker 3: Obviously not blowing the eardrums out of people in a
- 12:39Speaker 3: club somewhere and just, yeah, letting the amphitheater.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Do its job.
- 12:43Speaker 2: That's right. Natural reverb.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I know. It's great, isn't it? It's fabulous.
- 12:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Fabulous.
- 12:48Speaker 3: And when you get stuff like that, and it does,
- 12:49Speaker 3: it sounds great. Like I've seen a few gigs actually. Grinspoon,
- 12:52Speaker 3: they played there. It was at Parkland and then obviously Z50.
- 12:55Speaker 3: And the sound is great. And if it's set up well,
- 12:58Speaker 3: it's done well like it was. The only thing is
- 13:00Speaker 3: the side stage is just for us in the crowd,
- 13:03Speaker 3: it's a bit of a lean.
- 13:04Speaker 1: You guys on stage are fine. Yeah, I don't. It's
- 13:08Speaker 1: not to be avoided, I don't think. It's, you know,
- 13:10Speaker 1: the only way to like really get two stages in
- 13:11Speaker 1: that venue. But yeah.
- 13:13Speaker 2: I've heard they're going to try something this year. I
- 13:15Speaker 2: don't know what yet. But, of course, the biggest feedback
- 13:20Speaker 2: from last year was that goddamn side stage, that hill.
- 13:24Speaker 2: I don't know how they'll pull it off, but they've
- 13:26Speaker 2: definitely got ideas, so we'll see.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Oh, if Polly's involved, he'll definitely pull it off. It
- 13:31Speaker 1: will be done.
- 13:32Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 13:33Speaker 3: We can be safe to say absolutely, yes. And so
- 13:36Speaker 3: a massive line-up, obviously, for the day.
- 13:38Speaker 1: We've got Mudhoney. We've got Barker, hopefully. We've got. Custard,
- 13:44Speaker 1: Shonen Knife, God, my memories, not saving me, Mitch, please.
- 13:48Speaker 1: There's just so many. The Mark of Cain. The Mark
- 13:51Speaker 1: of Cain, sorry.
- 13:51Speaker 3: That I'm just going back to the top. Very much
- 13:54Speaker 3: looking forward to seeing them play again, yes. So it's
- 13:57Speaker 3: just an awesome day to be a part of in
- 14:01Speaker 3: massive few decks, which are just homegrown. And our guest, Mudhoney,
- 14:06Speaker 3: the Kings of Seattle player, Kings of Grunge. Grandfathers of
- 14:09Speaker 3: Grunge now these days.
- 14:11Speaker 2: Yeah. Mark Arm, what a lucky guy. He gets to
- 14:15Speaker 2: play at the Parklands twice now because he was there
- 14:18Speaker 2: last year with the Saints. So he's singing in the Saints. Yes, yes, yes.
- 14:22Speaker 1: They were great, weren't they?
- 14:24Speaker 2: Yeah. We've just been announced the Saints are going to
- 14:27Speaker 2: be playing some new shows in January and Feb. So
- 14:31Speaker 2: we're going to be playing with them in January, which
- 14:33Speaker 2: I'm very much looking forward to. I think we're like.
- 14:37Speaker 1: I think Mark of Canaan doing a couple of shows
- 14:39Speaker 1: after Z51 as well.
- 14:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Do some more down next year and have the day
- 14:44Speaker 1: before too, like Spy vs Spy. Like how good is
- 14:47Speaker 1: that going to be?
- 14:47Speaker 2: Sunny Boys, yeah. It's huge.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Just never ending. Yeah, stop it.
- 14:52Speaker 2: We're old.
- 14:53Speaker 1: I miss that youth. But I'm loving it.
- 14:56Speaker 3: All my fave bands, it's, you know, I'm like I'm
- 14:58Speaker 3: a teenager again.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Absolutely. I was going to say you would probably run
- 15:02Speaker 2: into my friend Luke Henry down the coasts.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Which is he?
- 15:09Speaker 2: Bass player of Volant Soho.
- 15:12Speaker 1: Oh, yes, yes, yes, yes.
- 15:13Speaker 2: He's also my bandmate in Total Pace as well, the
- 15:16Speaker 2: band that I have.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Oh, I know. I play bass too. I've got tiny hands. Oh,
- 15:20Speaker 1: I love.
- 15:21Speaker 2: That's why I'm kind of like it sounds like you
- 15:22Speaker 2: might run to Henry a bit. What? The screen feeder.
- 15:26Speaker 1: They're playing at the Cabo Bolo.
- 15:28Speaker 2: Yeah, that's coming up, right?
- 15:29Speaker 1: Yeah, Kim Salmon, yeah.
- 15:32Speaker 2: Nice. I'm actually chatting with Kim Salmon next week. I
- 15:36Speaker 2: mixed a live record for The Scientists a few years
- 15:40Speaker 2: ago and it's finally out on vinyl now. Yeah, Kim
- 15:45Speaker 2: messaged me and he said, mate, I'm playing the show
- 15:50Speaker 2: at the Junk Bar. I would love to come down.
- 15:51Speaker 2: I've got a whole stack of these records. I need
- 15:53Speaker 2: to give you one. Just take it off my hands.
- 15:55Speaker 2: I was like, mate, that's extremely... This is the Kim
- 15:59Speaker 2: Salmon messaging me about this. It was... I'm a bit starstruck,
- 16:03Speaker 2: you know what I mean?
- 16:04Speaker 1: Yeah, and we're allowed to be. I love it.
- 16:05Speaker 2: It's good.
- 16:06Speaker 3: So I'm very much looking forward to obviously seeing yourselves
- 16:08Speaker 3: again on the day and the rest of the band
- 16:11Speaker 3: and some friends I hear. So we've got some keys
- 16:13Speaker 3: happening in there.
- 16:14Speaker 1: Is that right? Or is it keeping it under wraps?
- 16:17Speaker 2: We'll keep it under wraps for now.
- 16:19Speaker 1: There's cowbell on there, all right?
- 16:20Speaker 3: It's all about the cowbell, okay?
- 16:25Speaker 2: Once we finally get together, because we've got a member
- 16:27Speaker 2: that lives in Melbourne these days, which does make it
- 16:29Speaker 2: a bit trickier when it comes to band practice and
- 16:31Speaker 2: all that kind of stuff, but writing new tunes is
- 16:35Speaker 2: very high on the agenda.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Yeah, nice.
- 16:37Speaker 2: So there's been a lot of time between all of
- 16:39Speaker 2: our albums, and it's just because life, really. But we
- 16:43Speaker 2: still enjoy it. So, yeah, we are... I know it
- 16:48Speaker 2: sounds cliche to say you get excited for a show,
- 16:51Speaker 2: but it's easily the biggest thing to play with a
- 16:59Speaker 2: lot of peers and heroes on that stage.
- 17:02Speaker 1: So true, so true.
- 17:03Speaker 3: As you say, get to work alongside those heroes that
- 17:07Speaker 3: we've had all that time.
- 17:07Speaker 1: And you know what?
- 17:09Speaker 3: They're the same too with their faves, and I think
- 17:11Speaker 3: that's the most humble part of music and musicians.
- 17:13Speaker 1: It's like... We're all just the same. Yeah, amen.
- 17:16Speaker 2: Absolutely. We've all got jobs. We're all on the same roads.
- 17:20Speaker 1: You know.
- 17:21Speaker 3: And there's no ego in it too, which I think
- 17:23Speaker 3: you do, maybe not in our style of music that
- 17:27Speaker 3: we all play and represent, but.
- 17:29Speaker 1: You can do.
- 17:29Speaker 3: But there's none of that when any of what I've
- 17:32Speaker 3: ever had to do with music and that for me
- 17:34Speaker 3: is a really beautiful thing and got to love that,
- 17:37Speaker 3: wholeheartedly love that.
- 17:39Speaker 1: We'll never stop loving that part. Oh, yeah.
- 17:42Speaker 2: It's perfect.
- 17:43Speaker 1: It is.
- 17:44Speaker 2: It's exactly what gets me.
- 17:45Speaker 1: Out of bed.
- 17:46Speaker 3: We can create our own idea of a perfect little
- 17:48Speaker 3: world and have moments. But it's all about community, isn't it?
- 17:52Speaker 2: That is the key word, absolute. It's the community of
- 17:56Speaker 2: people that surround you and enjoy it just as much
- 18:00Speaker 2: as you do as well and makes you feel like
- 18:02Speaker 2: you fit in in the place as well.
- 18:04Speaker 1: Yeah, 100%, 100%.
- 18:06Speaker 3: I've never felt out of place doing what I do,
- 18:08Speaker 3: which is kind of, you know, I've never really stopped
- 18:11Speaker 3: to think about it too much. Cause I, I don't
- 18:12Speaker 3: feel like I shouldn't be doing what I'm doing. My
- 18:14Speaker 3: brother was always a musician. I was the journalist. And
- 18:16Speaker 3: then it just happened to be just by chance that
- 18:19Speaker 3: I have the, you know, things happen in life that
- 18:21Speaker 3: I have that have led me to be playing music
- 18:23Speaker 3: and now doing this. And it's like, yeah, no, definitely
- 18:26Speaker 3: not found out a place.
- 18:26Speaker 1: It's, it's good. Home is where they are. Home is
- 18:30Speaker 1: where the riffs are loud.
- 18:31Speaker 2: Absolutely. Absolutely. Um, Yeah, yeah. So Chelsea had said 51.
- 18:37Speaker 1: You will. You absolutely will.
- 18:39Speaker 3: We'll hopefully be having a chat again when your new
- 18:42Speaker 3: music comes out later on next year and doing some tours.
- 18:45Speaker 3: Definitely hit us up for anything we can help push
- 18:48Speaker 3: out there for you guys.
- 18:49Speaker 2: Oh, thank you. Thank you very much.
- 18:51Speaker 1: Enjoy. Enjoy.
- 18:52Speaker 3: And I should really dial in because the name of
- 18:55Speaker 3: your radio show, I'm just like, that is so right.
- 18:57Speaker 1: I'm like, unnecessary knowledge. I'm like, I'm full of it.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Maybe I'll be.
- 19:02Speaker 1: A guest on your show one day. That would be funny.
- 19:04Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Sadly, I'm not going to be on
- 19:07Speaker 2: tomorrow morning just because this. Yeah, I got the cold.
- 19:11Speaker 2: I'm just like, no, I'm not going to go in.
- 19:13Speaker 2: So I'm giving myself a break. I've got a friend
- 19:16Speaker 2: who subs in for me. Oh, cool. But, yeah, every
- 19:20Speaker 2: Wednesday breakfast 6 to 9. That's where I'm at.
- 19:23Speaker 1: Excellent. Well, you take care and I hope you get
- 19:26Speaker 1: better soon. Thank you.
- 19:27Speaker 3: And we will definitely catch up. It's coming around way
- 19:30Speaker 3: quicker than what you want to think. It's only weeks
- 19:32Speaker 3: away now.
- 19:32Speaker 2: See you, mate.
- 19:33Speaker 1: Bye.
