Latest / Worldview Matters With David Fiorazo / Matthew Maher: Tipping Point Or Turning Point?
Transcript
- 0:00Hey friends, thanks for watching and listening.
- 0:02Turning Point USA continues to be the fastest growing political organization in the world
- 0:07and conservative movement based on Christ from what we've seen now.
- 0:12We're so blessed by that.
- 0:14Chapter requests for TPUSA have doubled since Charlie Kirk's memorial from 60,000 to 120,000
- 0:23on both high school and college campuses across the country.
- 0:28Charlie Kirk's life goal was 20,000 by the way, so we're already 100,000 more than that.
- 0:33Now people are going to church, new people, people that haven't been to church before, people
- 0:37are buying bibles, they're renouncing the left, they tried to silence Charlie Kirk.
- 0:42But they only fueled a movement that cannot be stopped.
- 0:46The question is, will this be a tipping point for America and the church, or will it be
- 0:52a turning point?
- 0:54Pastor Matthew Mayer is here to talk about that next.
- 1:01Welcome to World View Matters, discussing controversial issues, discerning current events,
- 1:08defending biblical Christianity, no topic, off limits.
- 1:14And now, here's your host, David Firazzo.
- 1:18All right, so welcome.
- 1:19Matthew Mayer is a great pastor at landmark church, Ocean City, New Jersey, and he's got
- 1:25a great website called truthovertrand.com.
- 1:28He's one of my favorite younger pastors that we get to talk to, and I get to glean from.
- 1:34And he's written some great books as well.
- 1:36I want to just highlight one of them, and that is discerning the devil's playbook.
- 1:42And Matthew, brother, thank you for your voice, what you're writing about, speaking about,
- 1:47and it's so good for you to be here.
- 1:48God bless you, brother, thanks.
- 1:52David, it's an honor to be back with you.
- 1:53Love the work that you guys are doing, and the milestones and accomplishments that your
- 1:58team and you have spearheaded through this platform, and I'm gleaning so much from what
- 2:04you guys are doing and the guests that you bring on.
- 2:07Praise God.
- 2:08I didn't know who knows what God's going to do, right?
- 2:11So I'm just really fortunate to be doing this at this time where we need loud, clear, truthful,
- 2:18bold voices to speak not only to share the gospel and be able to defend the faith and
- 2:23the biblical worldview, but to be able to kind of speak to a confused, hurting church.
- 2:30We'll get to that in a minute, but you did a recent presentation, a sermon presentation
- 2:36at your church called Signs of the Times, the shot scene around the world, turning point
- 2:44or tipping point.
- 2:45That's why I kind of teased the intro like I did, because this could go either way, Matthew,
- 2:50and I think it's way too early to speculate, but we're seeing signs, very promising signs.
- 2:58I think revival is messy, and I'm getting some Christians criticizing some of the believers,
- 3:03maybe because they responded, wow, that memorial was awesome.
- 3:07When maybe one of the speakers was Catholic or something, come on, guys, let's look at
- 3:11the big picture here.
- 3:13This is huge.
- 3:14I've never seen anything like that.
- 3:16That memorial where you've got this movement, you've got Charlie who they wanted to honor
- 3:20him, so they're preaching Jesus, but you've got political leaders, Christian leaders.
- 3:25Here's the problem I have, Matthew, and I'm going to toss it over to you.
- 3:28And we've got people in politics and in this administration declaring the name of Jesus
- 3:35and the gospel so much more clearly than the church in America has been, there's a problem.
- 3:40Will that change?
- 3:41What are your thoughts?
- 3:44That is an indictment on the church of Jesus Christ, and specifically pastors, those
- 3:49in my role, that politicians who are primarily ordained by God to be his civil servants,
- 3:57Romans 13, and their primary objective is to, just as Romans 13 says, sustain good behavior,
- 4:04honor those that do good, keep law and order, and punish evil doers.
- 4:09That's the sword that God has entrusted to governments.
- 4:13And of course, if they're communicating the gospel of Jesus Christ, I'm not going to dissect
- 4:17their intentions or their motives as I saw so many people online do.
- 4:22This was political rhetoric, and I'm like, no, you don't know your Bible, Philippians
- 4:25chapter 1, verses 15 to 18, Paul tells us, doesn't make a difference, the mode is of
- 4:30their heart.
- 4:31Whether sincere or selfish ambition, Paul rejoiced, whether in pretense or in truth,
- 4:37the gospel was preached, and those voices were loud and clear.
- 4:42In fact, someone like Marco Rubio was preaching the gospel with such passion and with such
- 4:47clarity, more than most pastors.
- 4:50So again, it falls on the Church of Jesus Christ to rise to the occasion for such a time
- 4:55as this.
- 4:56And I'm convinced, David, that we're going to see simultaneously a turning point towards
- 5:01righteousness at the same time, a tipping point into darkness and lawlessness.
- 5:07Because the bolder we get, you better believe the agents of darkness, those that are incited
- 5:12by the spiritual realm that many people don't focus on, the demonic movements we're seeing,
- 5:19but the veil is only thinning, that's kind of why you're feeling the way you feel.
- 5:24They're going to continue to amp up that in a violent way, and that's why the Church
- 5:29must get bolder, and we must be about our father's business.
- 5:34Yes, yes, yes.
- 5:36Now we've seen off the chart spirit of lawlessness in America and around the world in the last
- 5:43five, 10 years, but specifically since 2020, crazy lawlessness, sin, godlessness.
- 5:52But now we can't expect with all these positive things, like Christians getting out, more
- 5:59people going to church, maybe the gospel being maybe many pockets of revival, whatever's
- 6:03happening now, God's moving.
- 6:05There's no mistaking the fact that he is moving and he wants to do a work where that
- 6:10will go, we don't know, we're seeing, we're cautiously optimistic.
- 6:15But the left is not going to just say, oh, okay, well, this is too big for us.
- 6:19That's not their nature.
- 6:21Their nature is to kill, steal and destroy, because their father, the devil, kills, steals
- 6:27and destroys.
- 6:28So you started off your speech, your sermon, talking about the shot heard around the world,
- 6:34and that was one of them in 1775, we're going way back now, walk us through this and just
- 6:40let's hit some of the bullet points and we'll talk about them as you bring them up.
- 6:46That's the common expression.
- 6:47The shot heard around the world a phrase that was immortalized by Ralph Waldo Emerson in
- 6:55his poem, some 60 plus years later from that April 1775 battle, the battle of Lexington
- 7:02and Concord.
- 7:04When I thought about the moment, it wasn't the shot heard around the world, these 250 years
- 7:11later, September 10th, with our brother Charlie Kirk, it was the shot seen around the world,
- 7:18and we cannot unsee it.
- 7:21When I thought about the graphic imagery, the bullet struck our brother's neck, I thought
- 7:26about the neck in general, David, the vulnerability of the neck.
- 7:31I realized, especially in combat sports, jujitsu, freestyle wrestling, martial arts, there's
- 7:38one position you never want to give up, it's your neck.
- 7:42The moment that someone is able to choke your neck, the battle, the fight, could be over
- 7:48in seconds, there's only one defense mechanism is to put your chin into your chest to keep
- 7:56your neck secure.
- 7:58When I thought about that, I realized there were two wildly different responses to the
- 8:04assassination and martyrdom of Charlie Kirk.
- 8:07There were those who stiffened their neck, and the Bible uses that expression to describe
- 8:13defiance, and those in rebellion, and God would often raise up prophets, and even Stephen
- 8:17himself pointed at the religious and political leaders of his day and said, you stiff-necked.
- 8:24There was this mocking, this jeering, this demonically incited response, people were laughing
- 8:31about it, and then on the other side, you saw those dropping their neck, a posture of
- 8:36mourning and grief, and the Lord gave me that imagery, and in that moment, that's when
- 8:42I thought of it.
- 8:43There's a turning point happening before our very eyes, and a tipping point happening
- 8:49before our very eyes, and both are world views colliding.
- 8:54So it was with that in mind that I kind of labored to put together this message just
- 8:58to make sure the church understood the moment that we are in, and to take it further, think
- 9:03about Charlie being the tip of the spear, he's going out into the public square, the marketplace
- 9:08of ideas, college campuses, and then you look at Acts chapter 6, and did you know the dissenters
- 9:15or the antagonists that came at Stephen first?
- 9:19They came from the synagogue of the freedmen, keep that word in mind, freedmen, that was
- 9:26an institution of higher learning that had a religious feel to it, and they came out
- 9:31there to contend with Stephen, and when Stephen, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit,
- 9:37it says, was contending for the faith, they could not dispute the power of the Spirit
- 9:44and his wisdom.
- 9:45So you know what they resorted to next, David Slander, blaspheming, they claimed him of blaspheming,
- 9:52and that of course stirred up the crowd, and this is the playbook of the enemy.
- 9:58And as you referenced it earlier, I hate to say this, but those four plays that I spelled
- 10:02out in that booklet, that can help you understand what happened and what created the climate
- 10:07and culture that would lead to a 22 year old, deranged young man, and we pray for the salvation
- 10:12of his soul to be led by demonic ideology to fire a shot, little did he know that our God
- 10:21is able to take what man meant for evil and recycle it for good.
- 10:26Now with that in mind, here's what the Lord calls me to see.
- 10:32I thought about Charlie being on the college campuses, he's exercising his God-given
- 10:36rights, spelled out in our Constitution, our First Amendment, three of the components
- 10:41of the First Amendment were in full view with Charlie, freedom of speech, freedom of religion,
- 10:50and the freedom to public, the public assembly.
- 10:54Yes.
- 10:55And I'm going, here he is doing what God called in the do and a bullet strikes his neck,
- 11:00the place where the voice is projected, and there's another reason why the neck is so pivotal.
- 11:05And the enemy thought he would silence voices of truth.
- 11:10And when one brother struck down, we've seen the multiplication, the amplification of
- 11:16the gospel, how many have risen up?
- 11:18Now get this David, I'm a word Smith.
- 11:23I love looking into etymology and I decided to look up Charlie's name.
- 11:28So I found out that Charlie's name means free man, free man.
- 11:34And then I decided to look up Charlie's last name, what does Kirk mean?
- 11:37The etymology of Kirk is church, which means Charlie symbolically represented a free man
- 11:46of the church.
- 11:48And when that bullet struck him, the enemy's attempt was to silence freedom and the church,
- 11:54but he didn't know that many free men and free women of the church would rise up.
- 12:00And I think that's the moment we are in.
- 12:02You're either going to see people courageously step up to the plate or as 2020 and on has
- 12:09revealed, many will cower in fear.
- 12:12And that's the moment that we are in.
- 12:14Yes.
- 12:15And my goodness, I mean, I've just heard some of the numbers or even some of the estimates
- 12:19that there were over 200,000, I mean, some say 270,000 plus just in Phoenix physically.
- 12:29And other estimates say there were hundreds of millions watching through all the various
- 12:37outlets that were live streaming this.
- 12:39So you've got hundreds of millions.
- 12:40And then all the clips and all the replays and all the people that are now going back,
- 12:46this is something that, you know, God's ways are above our ways, aren't they?
- 12:51But I want to read something that you shared in this message and get you to further elaborate.
- 12:56I love these points, Matthew.
- 12:59First of all, said you believe this is one of the prophetic implications the Lord wants
- 13:02us to see.
- 13:03The way people respond in this moment will reveal which kingdom they belong to.
- 13:10Now I know we're going to talk about this in another podcast with you later.
- 13:13But I thought that's a great point.
- 13:14You will know them by their fruit.
- 13:15You know the way by the way people respond or responded to the assassination.
- 13:21World view they are of or is biblically what spirit they are of.
- 13:26And that includes professing Christians, not just the left, not just the radicals, not
- 13:34just the atheists, but professing Christians.
- 13:37They maybe had some theology wrong.
- 13:39Maybe just didn't believe certain talking points, but you said that's why this is so important.
- 13:43So you said two different reactions, morning and heaviness or mocking and hodiness.
- 13:51So go ahead and continue, please.
- 13:52This is really good.
- 13:54We'll begin with the mocking and haughtiness because there was a time where again in my
- 14:00fallen state, my own thoughts, I would think something that I would be ashamed of, right?
- 14:06And it would be one thing to think it, but to take the next step and even share something
- 14:11I'm thinking that's shameful.
- 14:13That's another thing, thinking it and then saying it.
- 14:17But what we watched was all together different, right?
- 14:21Something gross and disgusting was those unashamed in posting it.
- 14:28So you're talking about not just thinking it or saying it, but posting it and mocking
- 14:33and jeering and only demons are able to mock the murder of an innocent man.
- 14:40And I'm not saying innocent per condition, right?
- 14:45He wasn't innocent.
- 14:46He was a sinner, innocent in the sense that he was not breaking any laws.
- 14:49He was out there doing what God called him to do.
- 14:52And that's when that occurred.
- 14:54And then you saw on the opposite side, people that didn't even know Charlie and perhaps
- 14:58didn't even know what he was about.
- 14:59I even, I've spoke to those people.
- 15:01They said they felt something when they heard about it, something in their spirit was seized.
- 15:08And I believe in that moment, the thinning of the veil from the spiritual realm to the
- 15:12physical realm, around the world we felt it and the Lord revealed two kingdoms.
- 15:18That's it.
- 15:19That's all there is.
- 15:20Not complicated.
- 15:21There's the kingdom of light and the kingdom of darkness.
- 15:23There's the kingdom of truth and the kingdom of lies.
- 15:26There's the kingdom of Christ, our Lord, our king and there's the kingdom of the anti-Christ.
- 15:32And that's it.
- 15:33When you begin to see from a biblical worldview, all the noise, all the clutter, all the chaos
- 15:38with the word of God as our lens, things become very clear.
- 15:43And you get to see who's who and a lot of people have a hard time with division.
- 15:48But from God's vantage point, it's not division.
- 15:50Jesus told us he did not come to bring peace on earth.
- 15:55He came to bring a sword and the sword represented division, even within nuclear families, parents,
- 16:05at odds against their children and vice versa, siblings at odds.
- 16:09And where does all this derive from?
- 16:12Where we stand with the Lord Jesus Christ.
- 16:15Not the multi, not the, let me say it like this and then I'll throw it back to you.
- 16:18Not the one dimensional Jesus and that's the evidence that people are biblically illiterate.
- 16:24They only know the Jesus of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John and choice versus thereof.
- 16:29The ones that speak about love and Jesus was gracious, but they leave out the truth
- 16:35side of Jesus.
- 16:36And of course the full, holistic, multi-dimensional presentation of Jesus, which I'm in the
- 16:42book of Revelation with my church here at landmark.
- 16:45And we just got done chapter one where we have the portrait of the risen, glorified Christ,
- 16:51eyes of fire, his feet like bronze, like bronze glowing in a furnace.
- 16:58He has a sword coming out of his mouth.
- 17:01And this imagery, white hair, that's the glorified Jesus.
- 17:05That's the one that within us causes us to have a healthy fear of him.
- 17:09And what you're seeing right now is people don't have a healthy fear of God and that is
- 17:12why we are in the situation we are in.
- 17:15Amen, brother.
- 17:16And by the way, the landmark dot church is the website, the landmark dot church.
- 17:23And of course truth over trend dot com.
- 17:28So you wrote a nation at war with truth will soon be at war with itself.
- 17:34You know in 2016, Matthew, I believe it was Oxford dictionary, you know, however year
- 17:38they come up with the word of the year.
- 17:40And I was writing my book redefining truth in 2016.
- 17:46And the word of the year was post truth in 2016.
- 17:51And as you rightly say, a nation at war with truth will soon be at war with itself.
- 17:55And then you also said later on in your message, the pressing question is what happens next
- 18:04because the same event that awakens some hardens others.
- 18:12That's the way you phrase to talk more about that, please.
- 18:15Yeah, the same son that melts the wax hardens the clay.
- 18:21We all watch the same event to polar opposite responses.
- 18:27And then truth as God defines it when you see a nation or a society begin to redefine what
- 18:35God has designed and we can go down the list, whether it's gender or morals or whether
- 18:41it's borders that are prescribed for the nation's safety, whatever you want to talk about.
- 18:48When truth is redefined, you begin to see the division that we're witnessing in our land.
- 18:53And let me just finish my thought from earlier.
- 18:56Vision from God's perspective is separation, right?
- 19:00Separation of the wheat from the tears, separation of the sheep from the goats.
- 19:05And while we're watching that happen, here's my fear because what's happening in the spiritual
- 19:09realm, usually manifests in the physical realm, we've crossed over a line and I see and
- 19:15I hate to say this or admit it out loud.
- 19:18That's a nation that is at war with truth will soon be at war with itself.
- 19:24I see that almost as a repeat of a physical civil war and I hate to say that but you're
- 19:30seeing two extremes and you're seeing a clash in the physical and this is where the church
- 19:35has to be wise.
- 19:37This is where the church, we don't remove ourselves from the battle because we are the ones
- 19:41that carry forth truth and we want to see soul saved and we want to see God's kingdom
- 19:47advance until he returns.
- 19:49But here's where you're going to see people resort to physical weapons and the weapons
- 19:55of our warfare are not carnal.
- 19:57They're mighty in God for the pulling down of lies and strongholds.
- 20:02So we must make sure that as long as we have the weapon of God's word that we bring truth
- 20:08to bear, that is why the memorial service, as we watched it, seeing the gospel go forth,
- 20:15seeing hundreds of thousands of people just in the vicinity of that arena and then I've
- 20:23heard over a hundred million watched live streamed online.
- 20:27It all culminated.
- 20:28Did it not?
- 20:29With Erika Kirk.
- 20:31What did she do?
- 20:33She took from the sword of the spirit and when darkness wants to come in like a flood,
- 20:41she wielded that sword and offered forgiveness which is one of the weapons that crushes
- 20:46the devil's neck.
- 20:48And that's what God said as an indictment on the serpent in Genesis 315, there would
- 20:54come one from the woman, a seed, a seed of evil, I say, that will crush your head and
- 21:01yeah, you might bruise his heel but it was the cross and the forgiveness that was poured
- 21:06out that makes us of the redeemed.
- 21:10That's the weapon of our warfare.
- 21:11We go forward in that spirit.
- 21:13So what do we do?
- 21:15We pray for those that persecute us.
- 21:18We bless those that curse us.
- 21:20We love those that hate us and that's the war that Jesus has already won.
- 21:28Yep.
- 21:30That was a powerful moment by the way.
- 21:32I mean, I even watching it on replays and other people sharing it, you still get choked
- 21:37up.
- 21:38If that doesn't just hit you somehow in your heart or in your emotions, then I don't
- 21:44know guys.
- 21:45But Jesus said, everyone who is on the side of truth, here's my voice.
- 21:50Yes.
- 21:51And we are his sheep.
- 21:52We are his people.
- 21:53We hear his voice.
- 21:55Others do not hear his voice.
- 21:56Like you said, they turned a mocking.
- 21:58But you say that we share his mission.
- 22:01That mission is the gospel to testify to the truth.
- 22:07And we're running out of time.
- 22:09So I just want to jump to the end where you quote Revelation 210, you're studying Revelation
- 22:14at your church right now.
- 22:16But Jesus said, be faithful until death, I will give you the crown of life.
- 22:22Now we represent Jesus as his ambassadors.
- 22:25I think Matthew speak to this for a minute and wherever else you want to go in the last
- 22:29five minutes here, because I think we, the church in America at least have lost some
- 22:34of the application of very basic principles.
- 22:37When Jesus said, you are the light of the world.
- 22:40You are salt.
- 22:42We are ambassadors for Christ.
- 22:45We are to make disciples, not necessarily build massive buildings and put in CEOs and
- 22:52then have great programs.
- 22:54I don't read that in the scriptures.
- 22:57But God has given us the gospel.
- 22:58We are ministers of reconciliation.
- 23:00Well, you can't do that just on Sunday morning.
- 23:04So speak to that because that's kind of our role that we've kind of neglected, not just
- 23:11generally, not all Christians.
- 23:13But our culture would look completely different.
- 23:15And so would all the major institutions, our politics, our government schools, corporations,
- 23:21Hollywood, everything.
- 23:22Culture would look a little different if there was more Christian influence.
- 23:26Go ahead.
- 23:29I think the church has sadly got it all wrong.
- 23:32We look at the corporate gathering, that public gathering, usually on a Sunday when we come
- 23:37together.
- 23:39And we believe that that is what constitutes the church, right?
- 23:43Maybe a 90 minute service, maybe three songs that we sing collectively.
- 23:47Some announcements about what's happening in the church and then a sermon.
- 23:51And then we kind of compartmentalize our faith.
- 23:54Monday begins, we make our way through Saturday and we come back to church.
- 23:59But that's not what Jesus meant.
- 24:00When he established his church, the Ecclesia, the church was a people to be sent forth as
- 24:07ambassadors.
- 24:08So I recently did a sermon here where I said, hey guys, when we come together, the church
- 24:12is the embassy.
- 24:14What is an embassy?
- 24:15It's sovereign soil on another nation's land or territory.
- 24:22And every ambassador or delegate has a specific responsibility.
- 24:26So we come together.
- 24:27Guess what we do?
- 24:28We have a meeting.
- 24:29And everybody that's at this table, we're going to go over misinformation campaigns, smear
- 24:34campaigns.
- 24:35We're going to talk about the propaganda because as an ambassador, you need to know what
- 24:38is true in the midst of a world of lies.
- 24:41And then you are delegated an assignment and there's other reasons why within a ambassador's
- 24:47role in an embassy, when they leave, they go in the name of their sovereign, they represent
- 24:55him with the same authority, they go with the rights of their kingdom, and that's kind
- 25:01of what we're missing.
- 25:02So we come together on a Sunday, it's our gathering and then we're sent forth to represent
- 25:06King Jesus in the public square.
- 25:09And that's why we felt the way we felt with brother Charlie.
- 25:14He wasn't a politician, he wasn't a pope, he wasn't a president, he wasn't in office,
- 25:20but he was an ambassador, which meant he was in a spiritual office and he represented a
- 25:25spiritual kingdom.
- 25:26And that is why you saw a global response when blood was shed and blood, the blood of
- 25:32the saints is the seed of the church.
- 25:35The blood of the martyrs, absolutely great points.
- 25:39I love that, the embassy, the thought about that, because we are on foot, we are citizens
- 25:44of heaven.
- 25:45So we are not of this world, if you're born again, we're just passing through, but we
- 25:51have a job to do while we're here.
- 25:54And that's what we forget.
- 25:55A lot of people, I'm saved, thank God, I'll go home and just do whatever after church.
- 26:00But Matthew, have you noticed any new people come into your church since the assassination?
- 26:08Because this is happening around the country and around the world.
- 26:11Yeah, so the Sunday after, now the Wednesday of September 10th, I mean, I felt like I was
- 26:19hit by a ton of bricks, I was grieving, I was crying uncontrollably.
- 26:24I had processed my thoughts because I was preaching that night, but I realized I needed
- 26:28to make a public statement that early and I got up and that's online on our website
- 26:32on our YouTube and I just let the spirit kind of seize me and speak to the moment.
- 26:37And then I gathered my thoughts and had a more formal response that Sunday.
- 26:43And it was that Sunday that we saw numbers like we've never seen before.
- 26:46People were coming from all over the place.
- 26:47We were jam packed.
- 26:50And I knew what it was from, like 9-11, 24 years ago, people were responding to the tragedy
- 26:55and even had something to say about that.
- 26:57Don't let this fade like 9-11 did.
- 27:00We forgot about that.
- 27:02The Lord ordained you to feel what you felt and he wants you to be part of his church.
- 27:07Because where is Jesus right now in the midst of his church?
- 27:11And that's where we need to be.
- 27:12Amen, brother.
- 27:13And man, I don't think we need to convince anybody that the spiritual warfare is real and
- 27:18it's ramping up, but we need to be ready with the word of God.
- 27:23And there's going to be more gospel opportunities if we are sensitive to them and led by the Holy
- 27:29Spirit, friends.
- 27:30God can really use all of us and everyone has a spirit of influence.
- 27:33So we're going to do the podcast with you and we're just so thankful for your time.
- 27:37Again, friends, you can go to truthovertrend.com.
- 27:41And brother Matthew, we so appreciate your voice and your time that went by way too fast.
- 27:46Thank you.
- 27:48Thank you, David.
- 27:49God bless you guys.
- 27:51As a share of the podcast as always, thank you so much for getting us out there and God
- 27:55bless you.
- 27:56Keep speaking the truth about things that matter.
