- 0:21All right, everybody, you are listening to Eagles postgame analysis here at the
- 0:24Philadelphia Sports Table podcast show, the longest running weekly Philly sports podcast show in
- 0:28the world. That's right over ten and a half years strong, And somehow
- 0:31here in week eleven, the Philadelphia Eagles going out to Kansas City beating the
- 0:38defending Super Bowl champions in a Super Bowl rematch by a score of twenty one
- 0:43to seventeen. Again, I do not know how this team ended up winning
- 0:48this game. I mean, we're certainly going to be getting into it.
- 0:51Holy cow. The Eagles are nine to one on the season, the Kansas
- 0:54City Chiefs seven and three. My gosh, I am here with my good
- 1:00buddy Matt Rodgers, the one and only Matt Rodgers, as I like to
- 1:03introduce him. And again, I'm Jeff Warren here. I don't even think
- 1:07I put my name out there to begin with, but Matt, buddy,
- 1:10thanks so much for filling it for the guys. Now, I guess yeah,
- 1:11at this point, why do I have to introduce myself? For God's
- 1:15sake? Anyway, buddy, this team is now, like I said,
- 1:19nine to one on the season. They go out to Kansas City, they
- 1:23get the job done in the ugliest way possible, where the offense was absolute
- 1:29garbage for about seventy five percent of the plays that were run. And we're
- 1:32gonna get into this more, but first and foremost, thanks for being on
- 1:36the show, buddy. I love talking to you when we do our Eagles
- 1:38postgame podcasts and other shows as well. Biggest themes from this game, let's
- 1:46start. I'm gonna start. Let you start because I usually start pontificating right
- 1:49off the bats. So what are your thoughts here? Man? Yeah,
- 1:53So one of my big, my big takeaways from this game is obviously you
- 1:57don't want to get two worked up about a regular season game, you know,
- 2:01even before Thanksgiving. But the reality is it's it's a huge win for
- 2:07the for the Eagles locker room, and for the you know, for the
- 2:12minds of Philadelphia sports fans like ourselves. I mean, this idea to go
- 2:16into Kansas City and go and take the loss tonight, even if you take
- 2:21a close loss. What happens is even if the Eagles rattle off you know
- 2:24NFC East championship in a few weeks, they win you know, division round,
- 2:30they win the championship game, They're going to the Super Bowl again,
- 2:34it's all hanging in our heads. Hey, oh, but it doesn't matter
- 2:38what the hell they do, because because the Chiefs have their number yep,
- 2:40and and so we don't have to deal with that. Now that they have
- 2:45to deal with the fact that they had a ten point lead in the second
- 2:49half in Arrowhead and they couldn't bring it home. Yeah, there are a
- 2:52lot of reasons for that, but that is going to sting for for weeks.
- 2:55It's going to sting them for weeks. The fact that they could not
- 2:59score, the fact that the Kansas City Chiefs could not score against this Eagles
- 3:02defense in the second half, not one point scored in the second half.
- 3:09Chiefs scored seven points in the first quarter, ten points in the second quarter,
- 3:14zero in the third, zero in the fourth. And it goes to
- 3:16show the tenacity of this Eagles defense, a defense that has been absolutely plagued
- 3:23in the secondary. We've talked about it a number of times, Matt on
- 3:28these postgame shows, how the secondary's getting burnt. Secondary continues to get burnt.
- 3:32Issues with Bradbury, issues with Slay, the slot position, just a
- 3:38revolving door, and what's gonna happen. So many question marks and they ended
- 3:42up getting it done. They ended up getting it done in this game again
- 3:46on the road. And I'll tell you too, aside from the defense,
- 3:50I will say it's mind boggling to me too that if you told me Jalen
- 3:53Hurts was going to be fourteen of twenty two for one hundred and fifty yards,
- 3:59zero touchdowns thrown, one interception, and a rating of sixty four point
- 4:04six, I would have said, there's no way this team is actually winning.
- 4:08But with DeAndre Swift on the ground averaging six point three yards per rush,
- 4:13seventy six total yards on twelve carries, one touchdown, Jalen Hurts with
- 4:16two rushing touchdowns in this game at fantastic quarterback draw for the first touchdown,
- 4:23push push for the second touchdown. I'll tell you the tenacity of this team,
- 4:27both on offense and defense. When this team was not cohesively playing well
- 4:31from an offensive standpoint and partially a defensive standpoint in the first half, for
- 4:34them to be able to rebound, it really says a lot about the tenacity
- 4:39of this team. Yeah, I mean, and you know, one of
- 4:43the themes that jump out to me here is you know, it's incredible you
- 4:47know this defense that has been torched by Sam Howe twice. Yeah, wrtch
- 4:51by Dak Prescott for four hundred shuts down Tula, shuts down mahomes in Arrowhead.
- 4:59It is. It's fascinating. Desai is clearly doing a little bit more,
- 5:04you know, eating his wheedies, you know, during these weeks with
- 5:08the Dolphins and the Chiefs, because these guys are showing up to play.
- 5:12I mean, this is a you said earlier, they were the Thiefts were
- 5:15unable to score. They had a ten point leave in the second half,
- 5:18they couldn't bring it home and they couldn't score another point. Against what you
- 5:24and I know and everybody else who watches the team in the midnight green for
- 5:28most of the time, this is a challenged secondary. I mean, you
- 5:32got Sidney Brown, who is just I'm gonna say it, I don't you
- 5:36know. I don't like ripping the Eagles players. The man is slow.
- 5:40Now, if he wants to get ready to play, you know, box
- 5:43safety or something like that, then that's fine. But with these tight ends
- 5:46and these slot receivers, I don't want to see it anymore. I've seen
- 5:50enough that man, you know, you know it is not He would certainly
- 5:57smoke me in a race, but but that's not the level that we need
- 6:00to play at. This guy is not ready. He's not fast enough to
- 6:04cover these NFL wide receivers, especially these shifty guys in the slot. It's
- 6:09bad, I do have to say. From a slot receiver standpoint, you
- 6:14see Travis Kelcey a lot of times lining up in the slot. Travis Kelcey
- 6:19targeted nine times in this game. He came down with seven balls, but
- 6:23for only forty four yards six point three yards per reception. Yes, he
- 6:28did catch a touchdown. I think it was like three yard touchdown reception and
- 6:33as long was thirteen on the day. This Eagles team kept Travis Kelcey in
- 6:40check and it says so much about the middle of the field, the preparation,
- 6:46what Sean Decide was able to do in terms of prepping these guys this
- 6:51week. I can't say enough about that. I can't say enough about that,
- 6:56and I think too you know, the defense needed to make plays when
- 7:00they needed to make plays, and that's how they ended up winning this game.
- 7:03Aside, then on the opposite side of the of the ball, the
- 7:08offense needing to make plays when they needed to make plays, whether it was
- 7:12like I mentioned the Jalen Hurts quarterback draw for a touchdown right before or in
- 7:17the what was it in the first It was in the first quarter, right,
- 7:20I think it was the first quarter, yes, and yep, and
- 7:26then DeVante Smith with a forty one yard reception. The team needed to make
- 7:30plays when they needed to make plays, and they executed. The Chiefs did
- 7:34not execute when they needed to. At the end of the day, they
- 7:38didn't execute when they needed to. And you know, until they get receivers
- 7:42that don't have rakes or boxing gloves for hands, you know that they're gonna
- 7:47be they're gonna be struggling a little bit here and there. You know,
- 7:49we've seen this Chief's team with a drop off from an offensive standpoint this season.
- 7:57We talked about it both. I think we both talked about it on
- 8:01our our preview shows. I mean, coming into this game, the Kansas
- 8:03City Chiefs had a twenty percent drop of the amount of points that they've scored
- 8:07this season from last season and they're just not executing from an offensive standpoint.
- 8:11So, you know, good on the Eagles, of course, and we'd
- 8:13love it now. The fact that this team. I mean, it's nine
- 8:16to one, so I mean, go ahead, Yeah, what are your
- 8:18thoughts here? I have another theme that just occurred to me. They've got
- 8:24this you know, this is supposed to be Murderers Row, but we already
- 8:26killed the biggest boss of the lineup. But anyways, so we've got Murderers
- 8:31Row coming up. We got two more legitimately teams that were thought about as
- 8:37conference championship contenders. So we've got the Bills coming up for twenty five with
- 8:41the Kelly Greens yep, and then you got the forty nine Ers that next
- 8:46week. Let's say the Eagles go one and one in those games, I
- 8:50don't know which one they win, which one they lose. They go one
- 8:52and one, the Eagles, this year's Eagles have a great chance to match
- 8:56last year's win total. Now having go on into Arrowhead, having moved to
- 9:01now nine and one, they're in a position where, I mean, after
- 9:07you get through that first two. We just watched the Seahawks lose to the
- 9:11LA Rams. Yeah, only scoring seventeen points. So I'm not about to
- 9:15go and get worked up about that game. You can lose to anybody in
- 9:18the NFL. Giants twice. Yeah, I mean the Eagles lost to the
- 9:22New York Jets. For God's sake, that's the one loss of the season.
- 9:24You can lose anybody in this league on any given Sunday. You can.
- 9:30But on the other hand, as they get these things together in the
- 9:35second half, at some point, DeVante Smith is going to get it together.
- 9:39Today was a great a great showing of that of what he can do,
- 9:43especially with the coverages that people have to play with with aj Brown,
- 9:46And I'm feeling really bullish. I mean, obviously, you know, going
- 9:50into Arrowhead win in a game, but you know, this puts them in
- 9:54a really good position, especially again considering that this defense you know, clearly
- 10:00has you know, gaping holes and they're shutting down the league's top quarterbacks.
- 10:05Yeah, offenses, it's a great theme for sure, great theme to reflect
- 10:09on as we head into Week twelve. But I also have to say too,
- 10:11and I mean, yes, they win and we're like, we're we
- 10:16feel more relief I think from this win than just the gleeful type of feelings
- 10:20because in the first half of this game, Matt this Eagles passing attack,
- 10:24it just wasn't worried, it wasn't working for the majority of the game.
- 10:28The pass protection was breaking down, some plays were just taking way, way
- 10:33too long to develop, and Jalen Hurts just wasn't seeing the entire field and
- 10:37entering this game he had the second slowest average time to throw the ball at
- 10:41three point one four seconds. And meanwhile, Brian Johnson he wasn't calling the
- 10:46best game either. Plays that were awful, absolutely and not accounting for the
- 10:52blitz that was consistently occurring, especially in the first half. My gosh,
- 10:56I mean, Jalen Hurts had forty six total passing yardards in the first half.
- 11:01There were seventy eight yards of total offense in the first half for this
- 11:07Eagles team, Jalen Hurts being sacked five times before the half. If you
- 11:11had have told me the Eagles were gonna win this game on the road with
- 11:13stats like that in the first half, it was unbelievable. And the run
- 11:16defense too, was shredded for one hundred and twenty one yards, most any
- 11:20team has run for against this Philadelphia Eagles defense this season. And again,
- 11:26that was just the first half. But they ended up pulling it together somehow,
- 11:31and again I'll say they made plays when they needed to make plays,
- 11:35and that fourth quarter drive by the offense that led to Hurt scoring from the
- 11:39one on the tush push. You know, I mean, what a great
- 11:41drive and again have to say Devonte Smith just a fantastic forty one yard reception.
- 11:48It just needs to be said that I think that was the play of
- 11:52the game that really turned things around. Absolutely, it was demoralizing, I
- 11:56think for a chief secondary that had done very well up until that point.
- 12:01That's just they completely collapsed after that. And I do want to you know,
- 12:05whatever folks want to call it, toush push, brotherly shove whatever.
- 12:09On honiable mention, I started calling it America's favorite play, and then I
- 12:15just shortened it. You know, since the Cowboys America's team, this is
- 12:18now America's play. Yeah, And so I do want to point out that
- 12:22when we go back and we look especially for the folks who you know,
- 12:26who work too hard and they were legitimately they're gonna get off at will all
- 12:28right now and they're listening to your show or they're legitimately you know, they
- 12:33just there are people who can't afford to watch the games, or people who
- 12:37like to just go and watch Sports Center and talk about it and watch the
- 12:41shows throughout the week. But when you watch the game, I think something
- 12:45to point out about the toush pushes. The Eagles are not playing games.
- 12:50If they get within five yards of the end three or four five yards of
- 12:54the end zone, they're not doing. They're doing like the anti Pete Carroll
- 12:56and the Super Bowl thing. They're like, yeah, we're not gonna let
- 13:01We're not gonna let Jalen throw a two yard touchdown, which a lot of
- 13:03teams allow their quarterbacks to do. If Jalen gets anywhere near the end zone,
- 13:07those guys are just gonna hammer it in and it doesn't even matter.
- 13:11And so I think his statistics from that perspective, whereas his rushing TD numbers
- 13:16are gonna he's gonna like double you know what anybody else has done, especially
- 13:20in Eagles history. But I also want to point out that when you look
- 13:22at his passing statistics, he very well could have thrown a dink and duck
- 13:28a little you know, some of these touchdowns that McNabb through those little,
- 13:31uh you know, underhand pitches that even with all respect to uh mahomes,
- 13:37Andy Reid brought that same little pitch play over and that's a touchdown pass.
- 13:43Jalen Hurts can do that. So I just want to point that out for
- 13:46the listeners folks. You know, just because he didn't have a touchdown and
- 13:50his and his QB rating was in the sixties, doesn't mean that that guy
- 13:54still didn't have a legitimately good game, you know, with pressure in his
- 13:58face and all that constant pressure in his face tonight exactly exactly. And I
- 14:03think what's important too is that that ten yard quarterback draw for a touchdown in
- 14:07the first quarter. That was Jalen hurts thirty fourth rushing touchdown of his career,
- 14:13and he passed Cam Newton for the most touchdowns by a quarterback in his
- 14:16first four seasons as a starting quarter Credible, it is, It's absolutely incredible.
- 14:22And the fact that again there was enough tenacity offensively and then defensively defensively,
- 14:30with Patrick Mahomes only throwing for one hundred and seventy seven yards, he
- 14:33averaged four point one yards per attempt, the tenacity of the defense too,
- 14:39and just all around. You know, I'm not going to say that again,
- 14:41this isn't some sort of gleeful win here, but a tenacious win by
- 14:46this Eagles team and it's why they are a top of the NFL at this
- 14:50point, the best team. Yep. Absolutely absolutely the league, not the
- 14:54conference, the league exactly, exactly, Yeah, DEEVIDI other takeaways here,
- 15:01buddy, before we get into grades and uh and before we uh, before
- 15:05we head out here, you know, and just kind of digest this before
- 15:09we twelve you'll you'll ask me about this, so so I'll I'll save my
- 15:13theme. But I but I do have something, but I know you're gonna
- 15:16ask me later as we get through the different position groups and coaching and stuff.
- 15:20Okay, sounds good. We can save we can save that particular talking
- 15:24point for sure for the grades and themes. So why don't we just do
- 15:28that? Why don't we take our break right now, and when we come
- 15:31back, we'll start with grades, grade by unit as we do every postgame
- 15:35show, and then grade the coaching. Does that work for you, buddy?
- 15:39Great? Thank you? All right, let's take that break. We'll
- 15:41be right back. All right, we are back and again with Matt Rogers
- 15:46from the honorable mentioned podcast. I think I forgot to mention that right off
- 15:50the bat the honorable mentioned podcast. I listened on Apple podcasts, and I
- 15:56think I forgot to mention it because I was absolutely, you know, mind
- 15:58boggled by this Eagles win here. But yes, yes, follow Matt defensive
- 16:03win, Yes, defensive win for sure. Follow Matt on on threads at
- 16:08Politidope. And you can also catch the honorable mention pod on threads as well.
- 16:15I know you're on threads a lot more than Twitter. Correct. Yeah,
- 16:18I'm hoping. I'm hoping to get there myself at some point. It's
- 16:21just making the decision. It really is. At this point, it really
- 16:25is. He's like, yes, yes, Jeff, do it, do
- 16:26it exactly. God, you would have thought it was the end of the
- 16:30world our Twitter feed with this Eagles game. Holy cow tonight. Anyway,
- 16:34all right, yes, let's get into these grades, folks. We are
- 16:41going to start with the quarterback grade Jalen Hurts. Very interesting grades we're gonna
- 16:45be giving out here. I have no idea what you are thinking, Matt,
- 16:48but I am going to give Jalen Hurts because at the end of the
- 16:51day he was able to pull out the win. I'm gonna end up giving
- 16:55him a B for all the crap that we did see in the first half.
- 17:00You know, again able to pull out the win. You said it
- 17:03before we went to break. It's not just the passing yards. It's not
- 17:07just simply what he did in the pocket. It's what he was able to
- 17:11do with his legs, how he was able to extend plays when they needed
- 17:15to be extended. I'm going to give him a bee in this game,
- 17:18going out to Arrowhead and beating Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl rematch B for
- 17:22me? What do you give? What do you give Jalen Hurts? Yeah,
- 17:26he was a B. He was a B quarterback to I mean obviously
- 17:30a B performance tonight. I think that the interception that he threw, Sure
- 17:34he threw the ball, but when you look at it, there was a
- 17:38clear miscommunication. There was and it wasn't even a miscommunication. It was it
- 17:42was it was a j Brown decided I beat this guy. Jalen should have
- 17:48seen me and I'm going deep. We called a play in the huddle.
- 17:51I'm going to run a different play, and that happened sometimes. But when
- 17:55but when Jalen's got pressure in his face, AJ going and doing you know,
- 18:00another play or running another route here, you know, he put Jalen
- 18:04in a bad situation. And so that that I n t especially again when
- 18:08Jalen doesn't get to come up to the two yard line and throw a little
- 18:11swing pass to the to the flat and then somebody running for a touchdown and
- 18:17bring up his quarterback rating. Yeah, so that that one, that one
- 18:21interception will bring him. But but tonight, I said this to Oj Spivey,
- 18:26our friend, I don't know if even Donovan McNabb comes out of that
- 18:30stadium tonight with a win. I think that's great points. Leadership, Yeah,
- 18:37absolutely, with that, this leadership will be ye. Yes, leadership
- 18:41brings up the great a lot, absolutely great great points. All right,
- 18:47let's move to the running back position. And in terms of rushing for this
- 18:49team, of course, Jalen Hurts had twelve carries for twenty nine yards.
- 18:53If you take away those twenty nine yards, you know it wasn't the greatest
- 18:59day rushing for this team. But overall from a rushing standpoint, with Boston
- 19:03Scott Kenneth Gainwell only getting one touch for one yard, was actually happy to
- 19:07see that DeAndre Swift with twelve carries for seventy six yards, which I mentioned
- 19:12earlier, six point three yards per carrying a touchdown. His Long was thirty
- 19:17five on the day, one hundred and fourteen total rushing yards, four point
- 19:19two yards per rush, three rushing touchdowns too, and that is including Jalen
- 19:26Hurts right there, folks, that's including Herts. He's part of that rushing
- 19:29attack. But in terms of the running backs, thought they did what they
- 19:32were asked in this game, and DeAndre Swift just coming back strong. They
- 19:37called his number a number of times and he delivered. I'm given the running
- 19:42backs and a minus. Actually in this game, what do you give him?
- 19:47I'm gonna give him B plus because you said backs, You've put the
- 19:52s on, yes, And when you say backs, I'm still seeing nothing
- 19:56from Gainwell pretty much nothing from Gainwell. Penny is an a witness protection program
- 20:00somewhere, and uh, Boston Scott had two carries for eight yards. Yep.
- 20:07Because you said backs, I'm gonna give it a B plus. Okay,
- 20:11okay, that's fair, that's fair, all right. The receivers,
- 20:15wide receivers and tight ends. So this was an interesting game and interesting notion.
- 20:22Coming into this particular game. I came into this interested to see how
- 20:27the Eagles were gonna go about compensating for the loss of Dallas Goddard, Matt
- 20:32you know, Jack Stall, Grant cal Katara combined for just fifteen targets over
- 20:36the five games that Dallas Goddard missed in twenty twenty two last season, and
- 20:41we saw what happened compensating for the loss of Dallas Goddard. It was four
- 20:47wide receivers consistently throughout this game. They were like, you know what,
- 20:51We're not gonna trust Jack Stall, We're not gonna trust Grant cal Katara with
- 20:53regard to what Dallas Goddard does on this field. It was four wide receivers
- 20:57consistently. So in terms of what the wide receiver productivity was in this game,
- 21:03one hundred and fifty total yards. Davante Smith led the pack with ninety
- 21:07nine yards. DeAndre Swift yeah he yes, he's a running back, but
- 21:10from a receiving perspective, thirty one yards. Aj Brown was only targeted four
- 21:14times callte one ball for eight yards. Just amazing. How the Chiefs time
- 21:18for him? Yeah yeah, absolutely, Chiefs defended him well too. I
- 21:22mean I saw on a various instant replays. You got a Chief's credit for
- 21:27it. They defended him very well. Olio Jones had two targets came down
- 21:34with both of them only for five yards. So I think this receiving Corps,
- 21:38when it was asked to perform, it did in some ways and it
- 21:44certainly didn't in others. I'm going to give him a bee, and a
- 21:45lot of that is because of Davante Smith. So what do you give the
- 21:48receiving Corps this week, Buddy, Well, I guess, I guess in
- 21:53a rare occurrence, you're you're more optimistic, Yeah, Avante's if not for
- 22:00DeVante Smith just going off today, you know, I'm really down on I
- 22:06mean the tight end room. I love what you said about because in the
- 22:08second half that is what we started to see. We start to see it
- 22:11for wide receiver sets with you know, a hybrid tighten type of tight end.
- 22:15I think of Julio Jones is more so you're tight end. Have him
- 22:19run those those shallows, you know, across the middle, you know,
- 22:23tight end type of routes go four wide and then it'll make it it'll make
- 22:27it harder for these teams to line up against you and load up the box
- 22:33because they've got to spread out, they got to bring in their packages,
- 22:34get the you know, more defensive backs on the field. I'm giving them
- 22:40a I'm giving them a C plus. Calca Tara Stole gave me absolutely nothing.
- 22:45A J. Brown, A J Brown with his worst, worst output
- 22:51of the season. Zakiyas, I don't even know that has made a catch
- 22:53today. Yeah, Now, the Goddter injury could end up being a blessing
- 23:03in disguise because maybe they do realize that this four wide receiver set kind of
- 23:07thing, you know, with with Julio as your tight end, and when
- 23:11Goddard gets backed and maybe you can slot him right back into that position.
- 23:15But especially when Ques Watkins is able to make his return and all that it
- 23:19could it could make a big difference. All right, very good. Let's
- 23:23grade the offensive line. I am going to give the offensive line this week
- 23:29a C minus because I think it was a ten two halfs for them.
- 23:33I do. I think it was just it was the most horrendous first half
- 23:37of the game for the offensive line that we have seen in quite some time.
- 23:41The Jets game was not the best by any stretch of the imagination,
- 23:45but boy the man, even Jason Kelsey whiffing on some on some key blocks,
- 23:52it just it was. It was terrible and just and just with Brian
- 23:56Johnson not making any sort of game decisions to help give Jalen Hurts more protection
- 24:03when the blitz was coming almost every single play in the first half. But
- 24:07then they turned things around in the second half. So I'm gonna give him
- 24:08a C minus here. Yeah, what are your thoughts in terms of this
- 24:11grade? I think you're right. I came into this thinking I was gonna
- 24:18give him the sea, But as as you explained what you were just saying
- 24:21there, you're right, because I mean, every time Jalen dropped back,
- 24:26he was either hurried pressure and you know, he's stepping up in the pocket,
- 24:30running around making a throw on the run, or you know, and
- 24:33every time that that happens, especially with you know, them doing zoom in's
- 24:37on camp on Jalen's knee, it's like, oh my gosh, you're holding
- 24:41your breath every single time. Yeah, and they made us do way too
- 24:44much of that. I'm gonna go with you on that with a C minus.
- 24:47All right, very good. Let's head over the defensive side of the
- 24:49ball. Defensive line. I have never seen a defensive player like Jalen Carter
- 24:56legitimately getting held on every play and I I do wonder if the refs were
- 25:00like, do we honestly have to throw the flag on every play? I
- 25:04mean, he's getting held on every single play, double cup or double teamed.
- 25:08I should say, you know, probably, I don't have the numbers
- 25:11in front of me, but it looked like at least fifty to sixty percent
- 25:15of the time. So I just think that that the defensive line. Yes,
- 25:19in terms of sacks, they only sacked Patrick Mahomes one time, but
- 25:23nine quarterback hits. There were two tackles for a loss. I mean,
- 25:27it's a it's a prolific to an extent Kansas City Chiefs offense, even though
- 25:33they have been struggling. Patrick Mahomes is Patrick Mahomes. He is a great
- 25:37talent. As much as I justf and hate him at this point, I
- 25:41really do like I'm just like really really tired of him at this point.
- 25:44And I'm I'm tired of the Kelsey thing too, by the way, which
- 25:47I want to get into at the end before we go. But anyway,
- 25:51I'm gonna give the defensive line this week and a minus. Actually, even
- 25:55though they didn't really have the sacks only one, Like I said, Hassan
- 25:59Reddick, right, you know, beginning of the game, I'm going to
- 26:00give him an a minus. What do you think I've really got to give
- 26:04them? I I you know, I think I'm going a little far here,
- 26:10but I'm gonna give him a plush wow, because considering considering that,
- 26:17you know, we are not getting the best from James Bradberry, We're not
- 26:21getting the best from the slack corners. As I spoke of before, I
- 26:26really really don't like that last that call on that third down on Fletcher Cox
- 26:30when you get Mahomes at the end there. I mean, that's just a
- 26:33hard tackle. And I was like, that was one of our we're gonna
- 26:37we're gonna cover our guys and we got our top quarterbacks and we're gonna make
- 26:41sure that they stay healthy. I get it, but no, that's one
- 26:45of those that kind of turns the you know, the stomachs of the football
- 26:48fans who just no ball. That was not a that was not a targeting,
- 26:52that was not unnecessary. He took two steps. He's a huge man.
- 26:57I also like the adjustment, and you spoke about that. With the
- 27:02way Jalen Carter started, you could just obviously tell he was being held basically
- 27:07every play. I liked what Hassan Reddick and others started doing was in a
- 27:11basketball kind of sense. It's like, you're getting fouled, go ahead and
- 27:15sell it. And they were doing that, And I really liked that they
- 27:19started doing that because it was frustrating because they were getting a lot of things.
- 27:25They were getting a lot of outside runs, and I'm thinking, like,
- 27:27there's no way that the Eagles defense defenders are just running past these plays.
- 27:33They must be getting held. And as they started showing it later in
- 27:36the game, as the player started flopping without you know, short of having
- 27:41a type of Giants Giants versus Eagles where they go and do twelve sacks,
- 27:47I don't know if you'll ever see that again. You're not going to go
- 27:48and get twelve sacks on Patrick Mahomes. I think this defensive line put a
- 27:53put as good a pressure as you can expect. I think so. Yes,
- 27:57I think that's fair. Absolutely, I'm still going I'm still gonna give
- 28:02him an A minus. I hear you on the A plus. Yes,
- 28:04But moving over to the linebacker position here, and look, you know,
- 28:10the linebackers at times were burnt throughout the course of the game, In terms
- 28:12of the Chiefs passing game, Zach Cunningham had seven total tackles. Nicholas Morrow
- 28:18had had five total tackles on the day. Cunningham had pass defended as well.
- 28:25You know, it wasn't a it was a bend but don't break type
- 28:29of situation, you know, not just for the linebackers, for the whole
- 28:32defense. But I really saw that with the linebacker position. I'm gonna give
- 28:36them a B minus this week. What do you give the linebackers? Yeah?
- 28:38Around that again. We talked about this last last week, last time
- 28:44I was on and really again, the way they build this team just they're
- 28:48asking like linebackers just don't suck. Yeah, please don't be the reason that
- 28:52we lose today. And they did that. They did that, they did
- 28:55beyond that today. So whether it's B minus or C, you know,
- 29:00they didn't. They didn't suck today. All right, Defensive backs, I
- 29:03gotta tell you again helden Travis Kelcey to forty four yards on the day in
- 29:07six point three yards per reception. I think they did a fantastic job and
- 29:12specifically the slot corners, you know they were working. I mean, Eli
- 29:17Rix had a tough penalty later in the game. However, I think given
- 29:22that this has been one of the weaknesses on this Eagles team, the secondary,
- 29:26the defensive backs, you have new personnel that have come in in terms
- 29:33of in terms of, you know, actually having a safety now, Kevin
- 29:37Byard. I mean we actually have a safety who brought into a reception in
- 29:41this game. Bradley Roby, you know, playing as well. You know,
- 29:45guys still trying to get acclimated after being injured as well. I have
- 29:49to say this is probably this one of the secondary's best games of the season,
- 29:55and that's why not perfect, but that's why I'm gonna give him a
- 29:59B plus at Actually I don't know, maybe it's shad be higher, but
- 30:02be plus same for you, Okay, matp go ahead say same, because
- 30:06I think that they played well. They played well enough if the Eagles offensive
- 30:11line for a lot of this time could get out of our way and allow
- 30:15Jalen to operate and put some points up. They were definitely assisted by some
- 30:22just flat out drops and then some and there were some misses today from Patrick
- 30:27Mahomes. I know we'll never hear about that, but he did have some
- 30:32flat out misses today. He was having drop passes, but he also had
- 30:37throws on the run. He was pressured by the defensive line, and sometimes
- 30:38you're stand in the pocket flat out missing guys. They played as well as
- 30:44I think they played today, as well as this dB room can play.
- 30:48Yeah, I think that's I hate to be so down on them, especially
- 30:52because they got one, but yeah, I think it's very fair for sure.
- 30:56All right, let's head to the coaching. Special teams. Britain Hovey
- 31:00on three punt returns, averaging seventeen point seven yards per return. That is
- 31:06great. Jake Elliott making all three of his extra points. Braydon Man averaging
- 31:11forty seven point seven yards per punt on seven punts. He did have a
- 31:18shank a couple punts not not not the best, but I'm gonna give the
- 31:22I'm gonna give special teams coaching overall a be this week. What do you
- 31:26give them if Josh Joe doesn't make that great tackle to set up that that
- 31:34that drive at the at the seven. I would go with you on that,
- 31:41but I'm gonna have to go with the B plus because that was such
- 31:45a huge play and because Kansas City's special teams can can really break the game
- 31:51wide open. I mean, anybody who watched the Super Bowl nose or even
- 31:55watch Tonight's game, yeah, knows that they come to play in Kadarius Tony's
- 31:59days and job with that. You know, rugby sweep of the leg tech
- 32:04hole. He saved a lot of yards there. Having a totally different conversation,
- 32:09if Mahomes gets that ball at the thirty yep or the forty absolutely did?
- 32:14Absolutely did Sean decide? Moving to the defensive coaching, I'm going to
- 32:17give him an a minus this week. I again don't want to rehash everything
- 32:22we were just talking about, but when you hold Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs
- 32:27offense that Andy Reid is running to zero points in the second half, you're
- 32:30definitely in the A territory For me, He's getting a minus this week.
- 32:35What do you give him, buddy? Totally totally. He just doesn't have
- 32:39what he's been able to do again against the Dolphins and against the Chiefs is
- 32:44nothing short of a miraculous Now he will have a different test with all the
- 32:50pieces that the forty nine ers have to throw at him. So if he
- 32:52passes that test, then wow, yeah wow side yep ye. All right,
- 32:59Now, this is going to be interesting. Offensive coaching Brian Johnson,
- 33:01Nick Sirianni, I am going to be giving these guys a C minus in
- 33:07terms of their coaching. I think the personnel on the field won this game
- 33:12in spite of the offensive coaching this week. Yes, I think that is
- 33:15absolutely fair to say C minus for me. What do you give them,
- 33:20Matt, We're on the same page, okay on that one as well.
- 33:24You know, some of these plays are just horrible. On the first drive
- 33:29of the second half, just just pitiful. A QB drawl on third and
- 33:32seven on a must have. I mean, I guess it's not must have
- 33:36because they won the game anyways, but on a night where Mahomes is Mahomes,
- 33:40Yeah, first drive of that second half you need and then and then
- 33:45on the next drive after that, the drive stopped on a third and one
- 33:50mix up with the hand in the ball off and getting stopped in the backfield.
- 33:55It's it's really really frustrated sometimes, and they're running the play clock down
- 34:02all the way to nothing. Yeah. Really, if we didn't have the
- 34:08guys we had, they'd be in trouble. Absolutely absolutely. If the personnel's
- 34:13getting it done on the field, folks, that is what's happening. And
- 34:15to close us out here, Matt, after our grades here, I gotta
- 34:19say, I'm so tired of the Kelsey thing. I am so tired of
- 34:22Jason Kelcey and Travis Kelcey. And I love Jason Kelcey, please don't get
- 34:25me wrong, but I'm just tired of this whole brother's thing and how one
- 34:30is the sexiest guy in the world. Yeah, lerpaying, I am so
- 34:37tired of this crap exactly. Let's stop. I hope it stops for a
- 34:42little bit here, geez, until February. Yeah, yeah, I want
- 34:46to get another rematch exactly. Well, I know we've only got a couple
- 34:50of minutes here, Matt, anything else before we head out of here,
- 34:52Buddy, No, I do expect AJ Brown to comp completely go off.
- 35:00He might torch the Bills for at his customary one twenty five is my floor,
- 35:07Okay? The Bills and Jalen Hurts and AJ Brown versus Josh Allen and
- 35:14step On Diggs, Stefan Diggs and Josh Allen with everything to prove everything in
- 35:17the line. They lose the game. At the late next week, they're
- 35:21six and six. They're gonna come to play against this defensive backs room,
- 35:25and it's gonna be a lot of fun. Guys. If you like offensive
- 35:29football, I think Johnson and Sirihanni are gonna you know, maybe listen to
- 35:32PST, maybe listening to some other people who are ripping them to night and
- 35:36get some damn good offensive plays and some rhythm and some cadence going next week.
- 35:40Absolutely, great way to end this postgame show again, the Philadelphia Eagles
- 35:45beating the Kansas City Chiefs out of Arrowhead by score twenty one to seventeen.
- 35:51Week eleven in the books, folks, we're gonna be moving on to week
