On a winter afternoon in Gwangju, workers were pouring concrete on the top floor of a brand-new, 39-story apartment tower. At 3:46 p.m., the floor beneath them gave way. Then the floor below that one went. And the one below that. Within moments, around sixteen floors of one side of the tower had come down, and six workers were gone. It would take 29 days just to bring all of them home.
