- 0:03It's Christmas Eve.
- 0:04Not a creature was stirring,
- 0:06except a Clydesdale.
- 0:20I love the chase and the hunt,
- 0:22and I set the pace when I'm running.
- 0:23I always take what I want,
- 0:25and I always give it one hundred.
- 0:26Don't need a bank, no I'm funded.
- 0:28Play the game like it's nothing.
- 0:29I'm always thankful for something.
- 0:31Don't take for granted, stay humble.
- 0:32Now wake up!
- 0:34It's time to look at the enemy.
- 0:36Look in the mirror if he is no
- 0:38friend to me.
- 0:39It's not working out,
- 0:40maybe it's the chemistry.
- 0:42It's time to break.
- 0:57what is going on hope everybody's having a
- 1:00great christmas eve uh good to be with
- 1:03you today got joseph ramirez we've got
- 1:06andrew sten we've got kenneth the lap in
- 1:08the house what is going on hope
- 1:13everybody's having a great day um just
- 1:17need to check something real quick okay we
- 1:23are good um
- 1:28for lease Navidad.
- 1:30Christmas is for lease, huh?
- 1:32All right, cool.
- 1:34That might be the sign outside of CrossFit
- 1:36HQ if we had one.
- 1:39Who knows?
- 1:41Anyway, good to be with you guys today.
- 1:44We'll do a quick show.
- 1:46Let you get back to your festivities.
- 1:51I noticed that the Rogue Athletes got
- 1:53gifts this year.
- 1:54I wanted to get your input.
- 1:55What did you guys think?
- 1:58Here is Margo Alvarez showing hers.
- 2:01And they gave them both a wall ball
- 2:08and what are these called?
- 2:11The...
- 2:15Jerry cans maybe in the old fashioned
- 2:18leather.
- 2:20Uh, I think they look really cool.
- 2:23It looks like old school NFL football, um,
- 2:26old school, like gymnasium, uh, things.
- 2:33Ken's lap, soft kettlebell.
- 2:35I guess you could do that too.
- 2:37I was thinking Jerry can, but yeah,
- 2:39maybe you could swing that thing around a
- 2:40little bit.
- 2:42Uh, I really, really,
- 2:45really love the looks of these um kenneth
- 2:49is underwhelmed wow uh pukey the clown
- 2:55rogue killed it with the gifts
- 2:58Just for me,
- 2:59as those are always cool gifts.
- 3:00Yeah, I agree.
- 3:02I think they do a really cool job.
- 3:04It's always a variation of something they
- 3:06kind of make in the factory that they
- 3:09give like a new twist on for their
- 3:11athletes.
- 3:12And I thought it was pretty cool.
- 3:15So, yeah.
- 3:18probably not for purchase or I would
- 3:20purchase one of those wall balls for sure
- 3:22to have in my gym.
- 3:24It just looks like the old medicine balls
- 3:25from like the nineteen fifties.
- 3:28And I think it's pretty cool.
- 3:29And it's neat that they they put the
- 3:31athletes name burned into the leather,
- 3:34which is a nice touch.
- 3:37So, yeah,
- 3:39just want to get your thoughts on that.
- 3:41What is up, Meredith?
- 3:42Good to see you today.
- 3:44Hope you have a good workout.
- 3:49So what are we going to talk about
- 3:49today?
- 3:52Yesterday I talked about,
- 3:54I think it was yesterday,
- 3:55it was either yesterday or the day before,
- 3:57I talked about
- 3:59selfies.
- 4:00And I had made the comment talking about
- 4:03that other people were taking selfies to
- 4:05recap the weekend at WFP.
- 4:08And that I used to do selfies before
- 4:10I jumped into the media.
- 4:11And then once I did, I was like,
- 4:13no, that's not professional.
- 4:14I'm not going to do that anymore.
- 4:16But in the comments,
- 4:18Jody Lynn asked if I,
- 4:21cause my goal was to get a selfie
- 4:23with every CrossFit games champion.
- 4:26And she asked me if I was able
- 4:27to accomplish that goal.
- 4:29And I never got to answer that question
- 4:31yesterday.
- 4:31So I wanted to address that today.
- 4:34And I did not accomplish it.
- 4:37I came really close.
- 4:40But I did not.
- 4:41On the men's side,
- 4:42because I started the podcast in twenty
- 4:44nineteen,
- 4:46probably didn't really get into media
- 4:48media until twenty twenty.
- 4:50So from the men's champions.
- 4:55before i do have a selfie with matt
- 4:58fraser i do have one with ben smith
- 5:01i do have one with rich froning i
- 5:04have one with graham holmberg and i have
- 5:07one with jason kalipa i did not get
- 5:10miko salo
- 5:12but I have talked to him, uh,
- 5:14for probably minutes, um,
- 5:18at a rogue invitational, uh,
- 5:20in the lunchroom,
- 5:21which was an awesome experience.
- 5:24Um, and, um, James Fitzgerald,
- 5:28I did not get a,
- 5:30a selfie with him.
- 5:31Uh, so,
- 5:33and then the current roster of like
- 5:36Madaris, uh,
- 5:38Adler, Sprague, and Hopper.
- 5:41I've interviewed them all in person,
- 5:43but I've never taken a selfie with them
- 5:45because that was after the fact.
- 5:48So I've met them all except for James
- 5:50Fitzgerald.
- 5:53So there's that.
- 5:54On the women's side,
- 5:57I have a selfie with Tia.
- 6:00I have Katrin...
- 6:04I have Camille, Sam Briggs,
- 6:08Annie Thorstotter, Kristen Clever,
- 6:14Katie Henniger.
- 6:16I don't have Tanya Wagner.
- 6:19Eva T was the first CrossFit Games
- 6:21champion, I believe.
- 6:22Those are the two I don't have.
- 6:25And I have talked to, in person, Laura,
- 6:30but I don't have a selfie with her.
- 6:31So...
- 6:35so yeah, so that,
- 6:36that's how I came really close, um,
- 6:39before I stopped doing the selfie thing on
- 6:41the men's side,
- 6:42I really just didn't get James Fitzgerald
- 6:44or Miko Salo on the women's side,
- 6:46Eva T or Tanya Wagner.
- 6:49Um, and I have the rest.
- 6:50So, uh,
- 6:53It was a fun experience when I was
- 6:55doing it back then in my volunteer days
- 6:58and just kind of hanging out around the
- 6:59sport.
- 7:02And I still have them on my phone.
- 7:04But yeah, pretty cool.
- 7:11Joseph Ramirez asks how my mom is doing.
- 7:13She's doing great.
- 7:14I talked to her last night.
- 7:15She's over at my nephew's house,
- 7:17just about fifteen minutes across town
- 7:19here in Columbus.
- 7:21She's spending yesterday and today with
- 7:24them.
- 7:24She's coming over here tonight.
- 7:26So we'll do Christmas Eve church service
- 7:29together.
- 7:30And then we'll do Christmas Day with her.
- 7:33And then sometime this weekend,
- 7:34we're getting together as a whole family,
- 7:37my nephew, his wife,
- 7:38and us to celebrate the holidays.
- 7:41But she's doing awesome.
- 7:43The procedure went well.
- 7:45You can tell she has way more energy
- 7:47already.
- 7:48It's been amazing.
- 7:51Um, Kenneth, the lap.
- 7:53What about your favorite of all time?
- 7:55Stacy Tovar.
- 7:56I have a couple selfies with Stacy.
- 7:58Uh, I, I worked out at her gym.
- 8:03I got to sit and chat with her.
- 8:07It's a great story from back in the
- 8:08day.
- 8:08I won't go into it today.
- 8:10Well, I don't know.
- 8:14don't know it was way back in the
- 8:16day i used to travel for work a
- 8:17lot we had to go to nebraska quite
- 8:19a few times and i was in omaha
- 8:23for a for a conference i wanted to
- 8:25go work out at crossfit omaha and at
- 8:28the time stacy didn't own the gym she
- 8:31was just working out there and i wanted
- 8:33to go to that gym to work out
- 8:34where she works out um so i went
- 8:37over
- 8:39Got a workout in.
- 8:41The owner told me she wasn't there that
- 8:43day.
- 8:43That was her rest day.
- 8:44And she was getting ready for regionals at
- 8:46the time.
- 8:47And so I said, that was fine.
- 8:49I just wanted to come get a workout
- 8:50in here,
- 8:51see what CrossFit Omaha was all about.
- 8:53So I did all that.
- 8:55Finished my workout.
- 8:58And I'm putting stuff away and I hear,
- 9:01hey, Scott.
- 9:01And I turn around and it's Stacey.
- 9:03And here the owner had called her.
- 9:06I told her my weight loss story.
- 9:07She came over and to meet me and
- 9:10we sat and we talked for about a
- 9:12half an hour.
- 9:13Um,
- 9:15it was an amazing experience that just,
- 9:19just that she would come do that and
- 9:21talk and, and,
- 9:23and have those conversations was great.
- 9:25And then I got to know her and
- 9:26her husband over the next several years at
- 9:28regionals and different things.
- 9:31Um,
- 9:32and they're just great people and I really
- 9:34enjoyed, um, my time getting to know them.
- 9:37So, uh, but yeah, when she did that,
- 9:40it, you know,
- 9:41it was a win for me that she
- 9:42would take time out of her day to
- 9:44come hang out.
- 9:45Um, plus it was a great workout.
- 9:48It was like an, um,
- 9:50a Tabata of burpees and snatches.
- 9:53I can remember it like it was yesterday.
- 9:56Um, it was crazy.
- 9:57So, uh,
- 10:01But it ripped me up.
- 10:02It was alternating burpees and then into
- 10:04snatches, Tabata.
- 10:07Yeah.
- 10:08I wanted to throw up in the middle
- 10:10of it, but it was a great workout.
- 10:12Great workout.
- 10:17John George,
- 10:18seventy five and sunny here in the
- 10:19villages, Florida,
- 10:22two hours of work left just you're having
- 10:24show today.
- 10:26Yeah, I'm working this afternoon.
- 10:29I work up till five.
- 10:31We're going to go to church about seven
- 10:32o'clock and then just hang out for the...
- 10:35And I actually have to work on Friday.
- 10:38I took time off at Thanksgiving and
- 10:39there's only two people in my...
- 10:42in my position level uh so one of
- 10:45us had to work thanksgiving one had to
- 10:47work christmas my partner worked
- 10:50thanksgiving so i have to work the
- 10:52christmas holiday um so yeah so i'll i'll
- 10:56be working the rest of the afternoon and
- 10:58i'll be working uh friday afternoon as
- 11:00well friday all day actually
- 11:07I started watching the Brookwell's
- 11:09Retirement documentary from the CrossFit
- 11:12Games.
- 11:15I think it's pretty good.
- 11:19it's weird because I've not have ever had
- 11:21the greatest relationship with Brooke as a
- 11:23media member.
- 11:24Uh,
- 11:25she has never accepted an invitation to be
- 11:29interviewed by me or my team.
- 11:32Um, and so with that, you,
- 11:37it's just natural not to have like the
- 11:39best feelings towards someone when you,
- 11:44you are always being told no by them.
- 11:47Um,
- 11:49And that's fine.
- 11:50I mean, she can make her choices.
- 11:52She can talk to who she wants to
- 11:53talk with.
- 11:55I just never got that opportunity to
- 11:57interview her at an event or on a
- 12:01longer form or anything like that.
- 12:05But I've been around for her whole career.
- 12:08I was volunteering when she first showed
- 12:10up as a
- 12:18And man, at the time,
- 12:18everybody thought she was like the next
- 12:21big thing because she hit the scene hard
- 12:27in twenty fifteen.
- 12:29She was winning events at regionals,
- 12:31blowing people away.
- 12:34And the fact that she went her her
- 12:36whole career,
- 12:37ten years of going to the games and
- 12:40never finishing on the podium is wild to
- 12:42me.
- 12:43when I look back and think of like
- 12:45what everybody thought she was going to be
- 12:47at that moment,
- 12:48but it's still like an illustrious career.
- 12:50She's had tons.
- 12:52She's had that like Scott Pancheck career
- 12:55where tons of top five finishes and top
- 12:58ten finishes at the games just couldn't
- 13:01ever like make that next step to the
- 13:03podium.
- 13:05And, uh,
- 13:07it's it's just crazy to me seeing her
- 13:11perform at that regional in twenty fifteen
- 13:14and thinking like she had the the world
- 13:17by the tail and she was she was
- 13:19going to come and change the way we
- 13:21look at CrossFit athletes and it just
- 13:24never materialized over the next.
- 13:28Eleven years, right?
- 13:33But it's been fun to watch.
- 13:35She's overcome a lot.
- 13:36The elbow injury, of course,
- 13:38that everybody knows about.
- 13:39She overcame and came back, what,
- 13:42nine months later to then do the Open
- 13:45and qualify for the next year's games.
- 13:49I was at that semifinal where she barely
- 13:52made it into the games that year.
- 13:57But she made it,
- 13:58and she got all the way back to
- 13:59the games.
- 13:59And I think she finished...
- 14:02fifth the next the following year on her
- 14:04comeback it's crazy um kenneth the lap she
- 14:11was hayley adams before hayley adams very
- 14:14different style of athlete but yeah she
- 14:16she was that like next big thing only
- 14:20she never competed in the teen division so
- 14:22she kind of came out of nowhere
- 14:24Um,
- 14:25she was just known as this track athlete
- 14:27that showed up at regionals and won events
- 14:31out of nowhere.
- 14:33Um, it was crazy.
- 14:34It was, it was a crazy time.
- 14:37Um, where Haley,
- 14:40you got a warning because of her
- 14:41performance in the team division.
- 14:43Um,
- 14:44but Brooke like literally just showed up
- 14:47and kicked ass from the beginning.
- 14:53Larry Young, well,
- 14:53as sore as I am and as hard
- 14:54as I am breathing in the two classes
- 14:56I've done after joining my affiliate,
- 14:58if I don't get fitter, I'll be crushed.
- 15:02I am sure you're getting fitter,
- 15:03my friend.
- 15:04I'm sure you're getting fitter.
- 15:08So anyway, I watched the documentary.
- 15:09I'm, I'm about, I don't know,
- 15:12three fifths of the way through.
- 15:14It's pretty good.
- 15:15It's really just like kind of about her
- 15:16and Jake.
- 15:18Um,
- 15:20her coach Jake going through the process
- 15:23of getting her ready,
- 15:24trying to have the best performance she
- 15:25can at the games,
- 15:27how she figured out where she was doing
- 15:32damage control,
- 15:33where she's doing this and that.
- 15:34And then they do a little bit of
- 15:36flashback to different things.
- 15:38I like the flashback stuff as she's going
- 15:40through the games this year.
- 15:41It's, you know, it's okay.
- 15:43It's good.
- 15:44It's hard to be creative with that stuff.
- 15:48um but it's a nice it's a nice
- 15:50send-off for her uh with that being her
- 15:53last crossfit games so uh if you haven't
- 15:57checked that out it's it's pretty well
- 15:59done it's done by hwpo um
- 16:03And you can tell she's familiar with the
- 16:05cameraman and she's familiar with Jake.
- 16:07And so it's much more relaxed.
- 16:10She's much more herself in this
- 16:13documentary than other things I've seen.
- 16:16Because it's not an interview.
- 16:17It's just like her hanging out with
- 16:19people, kind of talking.
- 16:21And I think that's pretty cool.
- 16:27I wanted to give a couple last minute
- 16:29thoughts on the WFP.
- 16:32Last night, Jamie had this,
- 16:35what I think is a brilliant idea to
- 16:38help explain the story of the WFP.
- 16:40And that is to use the raw scores.
- 16:43achieved by the athlete in each event and
- 16:46have that carry over to the next event
- 16:49rather than convert that to a placing
- 16:52score for the event and then doing the
- 16:55next event making another placing score
- 16:58adding those together just take the raw
- 17:01scores earned during the event
- 17:04pause your tour, come back for tour two,
- 17:07start it up again,
- 17:08add the points you earned to that and
- 17:10go on.
- 17:11And I think why it makes it,
- 17:13it's two reasons why it makes that idea
- 17:16better is it explains that the tour is
- 17:20one long event that from beginning to end,
- 17:24you're earning points to see who is the
- 17:29fittest of that season that was developed
- 17:32by WFP.
- 17:39And so it explains it better so people
- 17:41don't get confused that you're trying to
- 17:43win this event or you're trying to win
- 17:45that event.
- 17:46You're not.
- 17:46You're trying to win the whole thing.
- 17:49The other thing it does is I think
- 17:51the double points is too much.
- 17:53And by doing this and having six,
- 17:55six and nine events,
- 17:58it's like a one and a half for
- 18:00the finals instead of two.
- 18:03So it doesn't put,
- 18:04it gives it a little bit of an
- 18:05extra meaning at the finals,
- 18:08but not so much that it's just show
- 18:14up at the finals and you're going to
- 18:16get into the,
- 18:16you're going to get your pro card.
- 18:20So that means a lot to me in
- 18:22the way the storytelling happens and makes
- 18:26more sense for the overall points when you
- 18:28get there.
- 18:30I think Jamie is doing a spreadsheet using
- 18:33the raw scores so we can eventually see
- 18:38if there's much difference between using
- 18:41the raw scores and using the placement
- 18:43scores,
- 18:45whether it actually makes a huge
- 18:46difference on the leaderboard.
- 18:48Her argument is that it will eliminate a
- 18:50lot of the ties.
- 18:52There were three-way ties in the way they
- 18:54were doing it.
- 18:55And maybe this breaks that up a little
- 18:57bit.
- 18:57And so you actually have not so many
- 19:01tiebreakers.
- 19:02And I like that idea as well.
- 19:08The overall impact of the WFP,
- 19:11I think it's...
- 19:13I think their intention was to give
- 19:15athletes more opportunities.
- 19:17And I think for one,
- 19:18it showed some athletes that those
- 19:21opportunities are too much,
- 19:24that with all of this going on,
- 19:27they lose an off season.
- 19:29And I think you saw that with a
- 19:31handful of withdrawals before this event,
- 19:33that people really decided they wanted an
- 19:37off season.
- 19:38They needed a break from the whole thing.
- 19:41They needed to step away.
- 19:43They needed to refresh.
- 19:45And I think that the downside to the
- 19:49opportunities that WFP provided is that
- 19:52athletes found out maybe they don't want
- 19:55so many opportunities.
- 19:57They just want good opportunities.
- 20:02But we'll see when it comes to who
- 20:04accepts the pro card for next season or
- 20:07how many withdrawals we get going into the
- 20:09season next year or during the season next
- 20:12year.
- 20:14The other overall impact, I think,
- 20:16is they have come up with some innovations
- 20:19that are pretty damn cool.
- 20:22The rep counters on the floor are awesome.
- 20:26If you've ever been to a live event,
- 20:27the hardest thing to know is where
- 20:29everybody stands on the floor.
- 20:31And if you have those big live rep
- 20:32counters,
- 20:33it makes it so easy for people to
- 20:36know where everybody is on the floor,
- 20:39especially the countdown version of that,
- 20:42because you know how many reps they have
- 20:43left.
- 20:45I think that is really awesome.
- 20:48Um,
- 20:49we talked about it last night that the
- 20:51F one thing on the side,
- 20:52rather than the, the top counter,
- 20:56it makes more sense as long as it's
- 20:59accurate.
- 21:00And then what,
- 21:02what I liked about that is they kind
- 21:04of came up with that F one on
- 21:06the side.
- 21:07And then the age group games took that
- 21:10a step farther and,
- 21:12and put in a red or green arrow
- 21:15showing whether the athlete was good
- 21:18moving up the leaderboard or moving down
- 21:21the leaderboard during that heat or during
- 21:24that event i thought that was awesome um
- 21:28so i think wfp kind of showed what
- 21:31could be done with that and then the
- 21:33age group games took it a step further
- 21:36So I think that that's pretty cool.
- 21:37The other thing I really like about the
- 21:40lighting of WFP is the yellow light that
- 21:43comes on with ten seconds to go.
- 21:45I think that shows the whole world that
- 21:47there is ten seconds and you've got to
- 21:49get as much done as you can in
- 21:51that that time.
- 21:52And I think it adds to the excitement
- 21:54of each heat coming to an end.
- 22:00So I did like that as well.
- 22:02I do think their lighting improved from
- 22:04tour stop one to the tour finals.
- 22:07I think the lights were brighter on the
- 22:10floor for the finals than they were for
- 22:12one or two.
- 22:13And it made it easier to see everything.
- 22:18It's hard for me to judge the spotlight
- 22:20on the lift because I just watching it
- 22:22on the stream.
- 22:23It was so hard to watch that event
- 22:26because so much was going on that we
- 22:27did not get to see.
- 22:30And because of that, I don't know.
- 22:32how much impact the lighting had because i
- 22:35didn't get to see the competition anyway
- 22:38regardless they could have been in the
- 22:39dark and i would have seen the same
- 22:42amount of stuff because all i was getting
- 22:45especially in the women's final heat were
- 22:46missed lifts um and so that was really
- 22:51really frustrating for me
- 22:54But I do think the lighting did improve.
- 22:57And I do like some of the concepts
- 22:59that they had with that to show the
- 23:04immediacy that would come up at the end
- 23:06of an event by saying, hey,
- 23:09lights are yellow.
- 23:10You got ten seconds to go.
- 23:12Get your ass in gear.
- 23:12Let's go.
- 23:17So really like those types of things.
- 23:19Where it goes from here,
- 23:22I think it's really at a big fork
- 23:23in the road.
- 23:26what i don't want to happen is just
- 23:27creating a bigger split and that's my
- 23:30biggest fear i think that it could come
- 23:33down to a point where people are going
- 23:37to choose one or the other and nobody
- 23:39has to use the word exclusivity some
- 23:41people are just going to say i can't
- 23:44do both any longer and so they're going
- 23:48to pick one or the other
- 23:52Right now,
- 23:53the majority have been picking the
- 23:55CrossFit Games season over the WFP,
- 23:58but there are a handful of athletes that
- 23:59picked WFP over the CrossFit Games
- 24:01already,
- 24:03and I don't know if that could continue
- 24:05going into next season.
- 24:07There are bubble athletes...
- 24:11And let's just say like Hannah Black.
- 24:13Hannah Black would struggle to make the
- 24:15CrossFit Games.
- 24:15And if she makes the CrossFit Games,
- 24:17would struggle to earn any money at the
- 24:19CrossFit Games.
- 24:21Right now,
- 24:21she has earned a pro card with a
- 24:23guaranteed amount of money.
- 24:25Does an athlete like that pick the WFP
- 24:29over the CrossFit Games?
- 24:30Because she's getting her travel
- 24:32compensated.
- 24:33She's getting a guaranteed amount of
- 24:35money.
- 24:37And it's a way for her to get
- 24:38exposure that she would not get in the
- 24:41CrossFit Games season.
- 24:44She can go there and hone some of
- 24:45the things and some of the weaknesses she
- 24:48has and some of the holes she has
- 24:51so that she can then come back and
- 24:52compete at the CrossFit Games.
- 24:54But for now,
- 24:55it may be better for her to go
- 24:57do that and support herself than it
- 25:01would...
- 25:05than to come to the CrossFit Games and
- 25:07not earn a cent for all the work
- 25:08that she's done.
- 25:12So that's my biggest,
- 25:14biggest fear that it's going to create a
- 25:17bigger split in the two seasons.
- 25:19And I think that that just cheats the
- 25:21fans.
- 25:27Pukey, the CrossFit clown,
- 25:29says WFP is the minor league and they
- 25:31should just realize it and start branding
- 25:33it that way.
- 25:35think it may naturally become that way
- 25:37just because just showing you the example
- 25:39that i have some of these bubble at
- 25:42like carolyn said it last night she went
- 25:44to the crossfit games last year she didn't
- 25:46earn a single cent paid her own way
- 25:49and because she finished in that bottom
- 25:51ten there was no payout if she earns
- 25:54a pro card you're guaranteed
- 25:57not only the the guaranteed money in the
- 26:00contract but they are going to pay your
- 26:02way to all the events it's a way
- 26:06to go hone your skills without putting
- 26:10forth a whole bunch of money while you're
- 26:13trying to earn sponsors while you're
- 26:14trying to earn your way into the crossfit
- 26:17game season um
- 26:21And I think that it could naturally just
- 26:23turn into that developmental league or
- 26:26minor league of the CrossFit Games.
- 26:29Now,
- 26:29the overall cash earnings is nowhere near
- 26:32what you could get if you win the
- 26:34games.
- 26:35If you're Jason Hopper or Jeff Adler or
- 26:37James Sprague,
- 26:38the money you could win at the CrossFit
- 26:40Games is much more than you could win
- 26:42at the WFP for one event.
- 26:46And then you could win some other stuff
- 26:47along the way if you win top five
- 26:50in the Open,
- 26:51if you get in the top five of
- 26:53quarterfinals.
- 26:54If you go to a semifinal and win,
- 26:57you can earn more money that way.
- 26:59where some of these bubble athletes don't
- 27:01get those opportunities.
- 27:07Larry Young, when I watch,
- 27:08it just doesn't have the same punch as
- 27:10CrossFit for me.
- 27:15I can get what you're saying about that.
- 27:16I...
- 27:18The CrossFit Games just means more,
- 27:20and I get that.
- 27:20It's been around longer.
- 27:22It's tradition.
- 27:23It's the Daytona .
- 27:25It's the Super Bowl.
- 27:26It's the World Series.
- 27:28It just means more.
- 27:29The WFP has been around one year.
- 27:31It hasn't established anything.
- 27:33And so it's going to be hard for
- 27:35them to have the punch that the CrossFit
- 27:38Games season has.
- 27:40And I don't know if they'll ever overcome
- 27:41that.
- 27:46Pukey the CrossFit Clown,
- 27:47it could be a great way for the
- 27:49athletes to get exposure and experience
- 27:51before coming up to the big league and
- 27:52competing with the best.
- 27:54Exactly.
- 27:54I think that is really where I think
- 27:58the WFP can find a home.
- 28:02The problem is,
- 28:04can they attract the crowds for that level
- 28:07of athlete?
- 28:09And that's where I think that maybe making
- 28:11it a European tour with one stop in
- 28:15the US, one stop in Australia,
- 28:18and trying to use it as a developmental
- 28:20league overseas is maybe the better option
- 28:25than here.
- 28:26Because I don't think...
- 28:28we're just spoiled in the U S we
- 28:30have too many things we can go to
- 28:32and to go to something where it's a
- 28:34developmental league.
- 28:36You're going to have people like Jamie and
- 28:37I going and maybe nobody else,
- 28:40maybe the handful of you in the,
- 28:42in the audience that really love CrossFit
- 28:44would go to something like that.
- 28:46But I think it's going to really suffer
- 28:48here in the U S I think it's,
- 28:50you make it the developmental league,
- 28:52you give it the opportunity for exposure
- 28:54and,
- 28:55for these athletes to go work on their
- 28:58their deficiencies and then come back and
- 29:00compete in the crossfit game season but it
- 29:02has to be to an audience that's going
- 29:04to appreciate it uh craig pasley says
- 29:09agree european tour i think that's i think
- 29:13that's the way they have to survive i
- 29:16think europe will support it because
- 29:18you're going to get a handful of bigger
- 29:20named athletes that are are not going to
- 29:22give up the guaranteed money
- 29:24But I think that it's going to be
- 29:25a split of those that do.
- 29:28And it's going to give more developmental
- 29:31athletes an opportunity.
- 29:33So I really think,
- 29:36and it's kind of shown that the people
- 29:38who picked WFP solely over the CrossFit
- 29:41game season,
- 29:43the majority were European athletes.
- 29:47So it's those hometown athletes over
- 29:49there.
- 29:49They're going to go support those that
- 29:52stick with it.
- 29:55And I think it's the best solution for
- 29:57the WFP at this point.
- 30:00And they can keep being those innovators
- 30:02and trying new things.
- 30:09But until then,
- 30:09I think here in the U.S.,
- 30:11the only thing that we're going to support
- 30:13is the CrossFit Games.
- 30:16I'm really anxious to see what happens
- 30:18this year in California,
- 30:20in their twentieth anniversary at a big
- 30:23arena.
- 30:24Can we fill it?
- 30:28That's going to be fascinating to me.
- 30:34I can't wait to see the open registrations
- 30:36this year too.
- 30:36I hope they go up.
- 30:42But the last thing I want is,
- 30:44like we talked about last night,
- 30:46is it's a split and have half of
- 30:49the good people in one league and half
- 30:52in another.
- 30:53I think that just would suck.
- 30:57So we'll have to wait and see what
- 30:59we get.
- 30:59But that's the one thing I don't want
- 31:04to happen.
- 31:07So let's finish up with some Christmas
- 31:11traditions.
- 31:14Tonight,
- 31:15my mom will be over at the house.
- 31:17We'll have some dinner.
- 31:18We'll go to Christmas Eve service.
- 31:21We'll come home.
- 31:22My family generally watches the movie Love
- 31:25Actually on Christmas Eve.
- 31:28we go to bed we get up we
- 31:29have a nice big breakfast together and and
- 31:33then we hang out and we watch i
- 31:37don't know if anybody's ever seen it that
- 31:38was the night before christmas um
- 31:43It was the night before Christmas cartoon
- 31:46Christmas special with the mice.
- 31:51My daughter loved that.
- 31:53I loved that as a kid.
- 31:54And we streamed that every year on
- 31:57Christmas Day.
- 31:59That's like a big tradition.
- 32:00And then I think I've mentioned it on
- 32:03here before.
- 32:03We do not do the traditional food.
- 32:05So this year we're having pot roast with
- 32:08carrots and roasted potatoes.
- 32:11And that is our Christmas meal.
- 32:14We don't do turkey.
- 32:15Not a fan of turkey.
- 32:18Yeah.
- 32:19And we'll probably have football games on,
- 32:22on like the little TV.
- 32:24But there's not a really good slate of
- 32:27football games tomorrow.
- 32:30It's like the NFL thought they knew what
- 32:32was going to happen this season,
- 32:34and it didn't come to fruition.
- 32:36And so now we're kind of stuck with
- 32:38matchups that don't really mean a lot at
- 32:41this point in the season.
- 32:42All those games are this weekend,
- 32:44and it is a crazy slate of games
- 32:46this weekend.
- 32:52Mark Phillips,
- 32:52I miss seeing Emmett Otter's Jug Band
- 32:54Christmas not on very much anymore.
- 32:57So not.
- 33:05Jody, Scott, do you have an IMDB list?
- 33:08I don't.
- 33:11I don't even know.
- 33:12I use IMDB to look at who's an
- 33:15actor, who's a voice, things like that.
- 33:18But can you create a list?
- 33:20I didn't even know you could do that.
- 33:25You missed the beginning of the show,
- 33:27Jody.
- 33:27I talked about...
- 33:29how many of the selfies I got of
- 33:31the champions.
- 33:33So if you want to hear where I
- 33:35got to with that goal,
- 33:38it's right at the beginning of the show.
- 33:39You can go check that out and see
- 33:42which of the champions I got selfies with
- 33:44and which ones I didn't because I did
- 33:47not finish.
- 33:50Um, so yeah, those are our traditions.
- 33:53Um,
- 33:54do you guys have any big traditions you
- 33:56do a Christmas Eve or Christmas day or
- 33:58any other holiday you may celebrate?
- 34:01Anybody got special dinners they plan?
- 34:09The other thing we do is we,
- 34:10we usually let a Christmas story kind of
- 34:12run in the background as we're doing
- 34:13things.
- 34:14Um,
- 34:16just because for years, uh,
- 34:18TBS and TNT would run it all day
- 34:20long.
- 34:21Uh, so we, uh,
- 34:25so we usually do that too.
- 34:28Um, my wife's a big Christmas story fan.
- 34:31She has a lot of like the t-shirts
- 34:33with Ralphie and the bunny costume and
- 34:37stuff like that.
- 34:38So she's a,
- 34:39she's a big Christmas story fan.
- 34:48It's funny.
- 34:48My family never, ever,
- 34:51never really ever did the big Christmas
- 34:53dinner.
- 34:54Um,
- 34:57my mom was always that person that like
- 34:58when,
- 34:59when I got married that like didn't have
- 35:01to have Christmas day,
- 35:03she'd take any day she could get us.
- 35:05And we would do like, um,
- 35:09like a luncheon platter instead of like a
- 35:11big dinner.
- 35:12Like we could make sandwiches.
- 35:15Um, we would have like dips, uh,
- 35:18like pepperoni dip,
- 35:20like cheese and pickle dip, like, um,
- 35:26Buffalo chicken dip, stuff like that.
- 35:28And then sandwiches and like a veggie
- 35:30tray, a relish tray.
- 35:33And it would just be kind of like
- 35:34pick at it all day instead of like
- 35:36a sit down big meal.
- 35:39She was a big believer in just being
- 35:42together.
- 35:43That was the most important part.
- 35:45Just being together as a family rather
- 35:47than worrying about the details of a
- 35:51dinner or things like that.
- 35:55And I really appreciated that.
- 35:57That's where I am this year.
- 35:59My daughter is not going to be able
- 36:00to be home this year.
- 36:02We had her for a week at Thanksgiving.
- 36:03We did our big celebration then.
- 36:06And now this season,
- 36:10we'll just have to FaceTime her.
- 36:12which is a little bit sad.
- 36:13It's the first time my daughter and my
- 36:16wife and I will not be together on
- 36:18Christmas.
- 36:19But at the end of the day,
- 36:20it's just a day.
- 36:22And she's doing awesome.
- 36:24And she's in a new job.
- 36:25She can't get a ton of time off.
- 36:27She picked Thanksgiving this year because
- 36:30her grandfather celebrated his
- 36:39But I love her.
- 36:41I wish I could hug her.
- 36:43But again,
- 36:44we got to do that a week ago.
- 36:46And I'm sure we'll be out in Montana
- 36:48before we know it.
- 36:50So with that, guys,
- 36:54I'm going to call it a day.
- 36:55I got to get back to work this
- 36:56afternoon.
- 36:57I got to work till five.
- 37:00And then we'll head up to Christmas Eve
- 37:02service.
- 37:04With that,
- 37:05I hope you all have the merriest of
- 37:07Christmases.
- 37:09And we'll be back on Friday to talk
- 37:11about, I don't know,
- 37:12whatever may pop up at that point in
- 37:14time.
- 37:15We'll talk about it then.
- 37:17I hope you all have a great rest
- 37:19of your day.
- 37:20And we'll see you on Friday with Lunch
- 37:22at the Clydesdale.
- 37:23Love you all, guys.
- 37:25Peace.
