- 0:00SPEAKER_01: I was today years old when I realized that my gifts actually never left.
- 0:05SPEAKER_01: God just let them lie dormant until I was able to come to him as my most authentic self.
- 0:11SPEAKER_01: Spiritual traditions aren't costumes.
- 0:14SPEAKER_01: They're legacy.
- 0:16SPEAKER_01: And let me set the record straight.
- 0:18SPEAKER_01: Voodoo and hoodoo are not the same.
- 0:21SPEAKER_01: But the number one altar you need to take care of is this, right here.
- 0:25SPEAKER_01: Mind, body, soul, and spirit.
- 0:28SPEAKER_01: That is the first altar.
- 0:30SPEAKER_01: You are born with that altar.
- 0:31SPEAKER_01: You are a walking altar.
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: How are you keeping yourself up?
- 0:36SPEAKER_01: Physically, spiritually, emotionally.
- 0:39SPEAKER_01: Are you taking care of you?
- 0:41SPEAKER_01: Heavenly minded, but always earthly good.
- 0:51SPEAKER_02: Hmm.
- 0:53SPEAKER_01: Let's see it.
- 0:53SPEAKER_01: Let me tell y'all something.
- 0:54SPEAKER_01: Here's the thing.
- 0:56SPEAKER_01: I think that Mrs.
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: Cleo was truly misrepresented.
- 0:59SPEAKER_01: I think that did she have a gift?
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: I think we all have gifts, we all have callings, we all have things that society gets to bastardize.
- 1:10SPEAKER_01: I think that she had a knowing that was beyond what these people um really gave way to.
- 1:19SPEAKER_01: I think that she was used, misused, just like the church misuses us when we're younger or when we're newly starting out in spirituality.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: I think that that is what happened to her.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: I do not think that she did not not have a gift.
- 1:36SPEAKER_01: I think that when she read those cards, those cards were correct.
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: I think that what happened was they wanted to capitalize, right?
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: Meaning they wanted this off of her gift.
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: And how many of us get people to use us based on our gifts?
- 1:53SPEAKER_01: Then we start going down roads that we would have never entered in had we not entered into a contract with these people that wanted to bastardize our gifts.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: So I am not going to be Miss Cleon two years because at the end of the day, that's not my path to walk.
- 2:11SPEAKER_01: I am real.
- 2:12SPEAKER_01: I live in authentic.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: I work in authenticity.
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: I I operate in authenticity in my life on camera and in my life off camera.
- 2:22SPEAKER_01: You won't have to worry about that.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: People that knew me before this podcast became what it is, and people who will know me after this podcast, baby, you not have to worry about that.
- 2:33SPEAKER_01: I will not give you Miss Cleo.
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: I will always be true and real.
- 2:37SPEAKER_01: I don't hide, I don't hide my hand, I don't throw rocks and not tell you I throw them.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: Matter of fact, I'm in your face while I'm throwing it, so that you can understand that.
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: You know, it is what it is.
- 2:47SPEAKER_01: I'm human, like you human.
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: I'm not perfect, I don't claim to be.
- 2:51SPEAKER_01: Um, but never will I give you um what happened with Miss Cleo because I will not sign those contracts that Miss Cleo signed.
- 3:05SPEAKER_01: That's just the truth.
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: She she got in bed with the wrong devil, and I am aware of what the devil card looks like.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: Hey, that was that was my share off.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: Hey, Angel, what was I telling you?
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: Did I tell you that?
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: Yes, you did.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: You did, you did.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: We told you not.
- 3:26SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 3:27SPEAKER_01: I was telling her that.
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 3:29SPEAKER_01: I'm not mad at that though, because Miss Cleo was a talented reader.
- 3:34SPEAKER_01: She was a talented.
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: I think that she just didn't know.
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: Here's the difference between me and Miss Cleo.
- 3:39SPEAKER_01: Miss Cleo did not know how to walk in her authenticity.
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: And I came in walking in my authenticity.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: That's the difference between me and Miss Cleo.
- 3:49SPEAKER_01: That's that's the God honest truth, is I recognize who I am.
- 3:53SPEAKER_01: I know who I am, I stand in who I am, and I don't have a problem with you liking me or not.
- 3:58SPEAKER_01: Fat, skinny, ugly, booger nose, no booger nose, nails done, no nails done.
- 4:03SPEAKER_01: I'm me.
- 4:04SPEAKER_01: And you can't be me, and I also can't be you.
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: So I don't think that I think she got a bad rep because people were not really.
- 4:14SPEAKER_01: If she were here today, it would be a different story.
- 4:17SPEAKER_01: Because we are looking for authenticity.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:21SPEAKER_01: It's the era.
- 4:22SPEAKER_01: It's the error.
- 4:23SPEAKER_01: It's the era.
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: It's the era of authenticity.
- 4:26SPEAKER_03: And I'm here for it.
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: With that being said, who are you in duality?
- 4:41SPEAKER_01: What's your night and day?
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: What's your lighting dog?
- 4:45SPEAKER_01: I mean, if you're not sure, which I know you're sure, because we all present to the world one thing.
- 4:53SPEAKER_01: But behind closed doors, we can be somebody else.
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: I mean, we all can.
- 5:02SPEAKER_01: But what are you afraid of?
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: What are you afraid to show?
- 5:10SPEAKER_01: My question to you this week write it down.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: Show yourself that your duality ain't as bad as what they say.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: If you were taught not to accept your duality, show them that they're wrong.
- 5:28SPEAKER_01: Show them that there's nothing wrong with you being all of who you are.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: Because the point of all of this is for all of us to show up our most authentic self.
- 5:42SPEAKER_01: And that means showing all of who you are and not being ashamed of it.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: Because he who is without seeing, you cast the first stone.
- 5:55SPEAKER_01: And I don't know nobody.
- 5:57SPEAKER_01: I mean nobody.
- 5:59SPEAKER_01: That's perfect.
- 6:01SPEAKER_01: Because I'm not.
- 6:04SPEAKER_01: You not.
- 6:05SPEAKER_01: Your mama not, your daddy not, your ancestors not.
- 6:10SPEAKER_01: None of us are.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: Because we are all the duality.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: Right now.
- 6:17SPEAKER_01: All of who you are.
- 6:21SPEAKER_01: And as you're writing and reading what you owe of a complete version of you, come to point that the things that you are ashamed of is legal.
- 6:38SPEAKER_01: Let me say that.
- 6:42SPEAKER_01: That you are just ashamed of because society has told you to be ashamed.
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: Come to accept that.
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: Come to show light to that part of you.
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: Come to show growth.
- 6:53SPEAKER_01: Let that part of you out a little bit.
- 6:56SPEAKER_01: If you're a person that likes to go out and shake a tail feel, baby, shake your tail feel.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: If you're a person that likes to go out and mingle amongst the crowd, go and mingle amongst the crowd.
- 7:12SPEAKER_01: If you're a person that likes the same sex, but you're afraid because of society or because of your reputation, go.
- 7:23SPEAKER_01: Try it.
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: There's nothing wrong with you being whole.
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: There's nothing wrong with you looking at that paper and saying, hey, I like this part of me, but I'm hiding this part of me because I'm worried about naysayers and talkers and negative opinions.
- 7:47SPEAKER_01: Like I tell everybody, I go to bed at night, every night, accepting of who I am.
- 7:55SPEAKER_03: And you should too.
- 8:04SPEAKER_01: It wasn't until 20 years later that I actually prayed for my gifts to return.
- 8:11SPEAKER_01: I actually wanted to start reading tarot.
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: It was after I got my first reading.
- 8:16SPEAKER_01: And I wanted to make sure that I could see clearer.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: I was today years old when I realized that my gifts actually never left.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: God just let them lie dormant until I was able to come to him as my most authentic self.
- 8:33SPEAKER_01: And as I'm talking to you right now, in this moment, I truly understand.
- 8:40SPEAKER_01: Gifts are without repentance.
- 8:44SPEAKER_01: The whole time it was guilt of not being perfect that actually had me trapped and not being in line with religious ideology of Christianity.
- 8:59SPEAKER_01: That was the pressure.
- 9:01SPEAKER_01: Because God is God.
- 9:03SPEAKER_01: Did I have moments of regretting that I prayed my gifts away?
- 9:08SPEAKER_01: Of course I did.
- 9:10SPEAKER_01: I mean, they were mine.
- 9:12SPEAKER_01: I was used to them, I lived in them, I operated, I was identified as those gifts.
- 9:19SPEAKER_01: So of course there were moments where I wish I would have used other means to deal with what was going on instead of asking God to take my gifts away.
- 9:34SPEAKER_01: However, I also believe that in everything there's a lesson.
- 9:40SPEAKER_01: And I've learned so much on this journey.
- 9:44SPEAKER_01: There are experiences that I had that I probably didn't have to experience had I not prayed my gifts away.
- 9:51SPEAKER_01: I mean, I'm pretty sure I could have been warned about a few exes or a few business ventures or a few friends that I could have left where they were.
- 10:01SPEAKER_01: But all in all, I'm grateful for the experience.
- 10:06SPEAKER_01: I'm grateful for the learning process.
- 10:08SPEAKER_01: And I'm grateful for me being here right now.
- 10:11SPEAKER_01: Because even in talking with you and sharing these moments with you, I'm learning.
- 10:17SPEAKER_01: Again, I was today years old when I realized that my gifts were never taken.
- 10:23SPEAKER_01: They just laid dormant.
- 10:25SPEAKER_01: Spirituality requires authenticity.
- 10:28SPEAKER_01: In order for you to truly remain and stay connected to God, you have to be authentic.
- 10:34SPEAKER_01: That is first and foremost.
- 10:37SPEAKER_01: You do not have to lose who you are and your truest self and your highest self to stay connected to God.
- 10:46SPEAKER_01: God connects to all of us just as we are.
- 10:51SPEAKER_01: He is the one that will elevate you.
- 10:53SPEAKER_01: And if it's something about you that he wants to change, let God do that.
- 10:59SPEAKER_03: Not guilt.
- 11:08SPEAKER_03: I don't want to say just because I believe it to be true, I want to be able to say that.
- 11:12SPEAKER_01: But that also could be true.
- 11:14SPEAKER_00: That is right.
- 11:15SPEAKER_01: That is also the biggest, the biggest, this is what I would like people to take away from all of this.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 11:23SPEAKER_01: Whatever it takes for your faith to be made whole, then that is what you do.
- 11:28SPEAKER_01: Just because left don't believe what right means and right don't believe what left means, doesn't mean both don't mean the same.
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: Both just may get there different.
- 11:40SPEAKER_01: You could take the path to millionaire the easy way because your family passed it down and you just was able to elaborate on that and make it better.
- 11:49SPEAKER_01: Or you could take it from the ground up and you got it at the muck and you became a millionaire.
- 11:54SPEAKER_01: Both were still millionaires, both still exist, both still work, both still did the same thing.
- 12:01SPEAKER_01: However, they just got their different.
- 12:04SPEAKER_01: And the point for me is get to God.
- 12:07SPEAKER_01: Period.
- 12:09SPEAKER_01: And because of your upbringing and my upbringing, we were taught that God, you can only get to God by this, right?
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: But my understanding and my knowledge gained by getting to God differently and seeing God move in my life in a way that they told me if I don't believe this, God is not gonna do that thing.
- 12:34SPEAKER_00: So that's so now that part, I've never been taught that if I didn't follow Jesus, I would not be blessed.
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: I've never been taught that because the Bible says that the Lord reigns on the just as well as the unjust.
- 12:47SPEAKER_00: So I don't have to be in Jesus to get good things.
- 12:51SPEAKER_00: Period.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: Okay, that is correct.
- 12:53SPEAKER_00: Oh, God's not gonna bless you because of such and such, because he says himself, I'm a just God.
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: I reign on the people who rock with me and the people who are not rocking with me.
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: The fact that we're waking up every single day with air, with a home, with shelter, our right minds, all this, everybody's getting blessed in their own capacity.
- 13:11SPEAKER_01: So why do then, with that being said, why then don't you believe that a sinner can go to heaven?
- 13:17SPEAKER_00: Because God reigning and sending blessings to earth is not the same thing as us being saved and being in his bosom for eternity.
- 13:23SPEAKER_00: Then one-on-one.
- 13:24SPEAKER_01: What's the difference?
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: The difference is I'm bound by, you know, I hate to say this, like it's kind of weird for the Lord to create this body for us to be in, and then now I sit here and I talk about it as terrible as I do because I feel like everything that is wrong with me has everything to do with the fact that I am flesh and blood.
- 13:46SPEAKER_00: And everything that's right with me, and I could be pure if I was not trapped in this body.
- 13:53SPEAKER_00: I believe that the body is what makes me bad.
- 13:56SPEAKER_03: And please forgive me.
- 14:06SPEAKER_01: People use prayer as a divination, too.
- 14:08SPEAKER_01: People use coconut and all kinds of certain different items.
- 14:16SPEAKER_01: People use coins.
- 14:18SPEAKER_01: Um, I actually can read.
- 14:20SPEAKER_01: I did not bring them today, but I actually read tarot with playing cards sometimes because I mean your girl just, I'm a reader.
- 14:28SPEAKER_01: I can read with cards.
- 14:29SPEAKER_01: That's like my heritage, that is my family thing.
- 14:34SPEAKER_01: So playing cards, you can read them uh and give people readings with plain cards as well.
- 14:40SPEAKER_01: They just don't have the hierarchy suit, which is like your major iconocards.
- 14:45SPEAKER_01: Um, but today we have a couple of things and we'll start with them.
- 14:49SPEAKER_01: I always suggest you use a lapis lassly crystal.
- 14:54SPEAKER_01: Uh, it is really good for your throat chakra.
- 14:56SPEAKER_01: If you are having a throat chakra blockage, meaning you are not standing up for yourself, you're not speaking your words, or you are hiding yourself and making yourself small because you're afraid to express yourself, then before you use any divination tool, I suggest you do some breaking or get some throat chakra healing because this is a way for you to speak and commune with spirit, and spirit speaks and commune to you and for you and to you.
- 15:23SPEAKER_01: So this is one of the things I always have when I'm doing readings.
- 15:27SPEAKER_01: Um, I always keep this with me and around me while I'm doing so.
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: So we're gonna start today by talking about tarot cards.
- 15:37SPEAKER_01: So you have different kinds of tarot.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: You have right-away, which is the normal tarot cards.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: It's the ones that have the major arcanas, and then the wands, the cups, the pentacles or disc and the swords.
- 15:53SPEAKER_01: And sometimes that disc or pentacle, they go interchangeable.
- 15:59SPEAKER_01: Then I have you have different decks, right?
- 16:02SPEAKER_01: So these are really African-based, they are all um people of African descent on them, and they are regular um right-of-way tarot, so they have the same basic look of all the right-of-way tarot cards, um, but they just are really the illustration on them are the African of African descent.
- 16:27SPEAKER_01: And then I have some in my handy dandy uh traveling case that one of my former students, where I was in like an assistant teacher in a tarot class, and she needed an emergency reading, and so I believe in exchanging energy for readings, and so she made me these great, cute little crochet traveling cases.
- 16:53SPEAKER_01: And so these are also right-of-way tarot cards, but they are based from illustrations off EFI.
- 17:02SPEAKER_01: Now, let me say this and be real clear.
- 17:05SPEAKER_01: You cannot find out who your hair isha is, these cards don't give you that kind of information.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: The only place you can find your hair to Risha out and find out who is with you and all of your warriors and everything like that is through divination and through uh initiation.
- 17:23SPEAKER_01: I am not a Babylower, I'm not.
- 17:26SPEAKER_01: So I cannot tell you who your head is, I cannot tell you who you should cry on.
- 17:31SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm that's not my my thing.
- 17:33SPEAKER_03: I I don't do that.
- 17:42SPEAKER_01: So if it is something that you know you should not do in your personal religion because you were already told by your spirit team, God, or elders in your religion, that that is not a part of who you are and what you should do, then please use your brain, use your intuition, because this is very intuition-driven.
- 18:08SPEAKER_01: You should not be practicing something that your spirit doesn't sit with or that you know you should not do.
- 18:15SPEAKER_01: Now, with that being said, let's shift to voodoo.
- 18:18SPEAKER_01: Voodoo is a full religion, primarily rooted in Haiti, formed when enslaved Africans brought their spiritual systems from West Africa and preserved them through ceremony, song, community.
- 18:34SPEAKER_01: Voodoo is about relationship.
- 18:38SPEAKER_01: It involves connection with God, ancestors, and sacred spirits known as Iwa.
- 18:45SPEAKER_01: There are priests, priestesses, initiations, rituals, sacred songs, offerings, communal ceremonies.
- 18:54SPEAKER_01: Voodoo isn't something you casually practice on the side.
- 19:00SPEAKER_01: It shapes your worldview, your community, your spiritual responsibility.
- 19:06SPEAKER_01: So if voodoo is a spiritual tool, voodoo is about spiritual family.
- 19:12SPEAKER_01: Here's a simple way to picture it.
- 19:15SPEAKER_01: Hudo is a toolbox you carry through life, and voodoo is the house you live in spiritually.
- 19:22SPEAKER_01: One helps you handle situations, the other gives you a whole spiritual structure to stand in.
- 19:29SPEAKER_01: Now, here's why they often get confused.
- 19:33SPEAKER_01: Both traditions come from the survival of African spirituality in America.
- 19:39SPEAKER_01: Both carry ancestral wisdom, both were shaped by oppression, resistance, and faith.
- 19:46SPEAKER_01: And both were misrepresented by outsiders who don't understand them.
- 19:52SPEAKER_01: But knowing the difference matters because when you lump everything together, it erases our history.
- 19:59SPEAKER_01: It erases our culture, it erases our lived spiritual realities of people who have carried these traditions forward.
- 20:07SPEAKER_01: And when we learn the difference, we move from curiosity to respect.
- 20:12SPEAKER_01: We stop treating these traditions like spooky anesthetics of cultural trends.
- 20:17SPEAKER_01: We start seeing them for what they really are: sacred inheritances.
- 20:23SPEAKER_01: So whether someone feels called to learn about hoodoo or voodoo or neither, the first step is the same.
- 20:31SPEAKER_01: Learn with humility.
- 20:34SPEAKER_01: Listen and respect and honor the roots before reaching for the fruit.
- 20:40SPEAKER_01: Because spiritual traditions aren't costumes, they're legacy.
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: And let me set the record straight by giving you a fair warning.
- 20:49SPEAKER_01: Voodoo and voodoo are not the same.
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: Be careful, you guys, on what you're opening up yourself to when you build an altar.
- 21:07SPEAKER_01: Don't build a money altar just for greed.
- 21:10SPEAKER_01: Because if you don't think rich people are sad, then you have a problem.
- 21:14SPEAKER_01: You are out of touch.
- 21:16SPEAKER_01: You they don't money ain't a problem.
- 21:19SPEAKER_01: But they got other ones.
- 21:22SPEAKER_01: So on that note, you guys, I just want to say be responsible, be smart, be educated, get some understanding of what it is you're about to invoke before you build your first altar.
- 21:42SPEAKER_01: And if you got some altars that you ain't even taken care of, then don't build no more.
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: Show God that you are a good steward of the altars that you already have so that He can open up doors for you to make some more if you need to, more altars if you need to.
- 21:54SPEAKER_01: Because there's a plethora of altars you can build.
- 21:57SPEAKER_01: But the number one altar you need to take care of is this right here.
- 22:02SPEAKER_01: This mind, body, soul, and spirit, that is the first altar.
- 22:10SPEAKER_01: You are born with that altar.
- 22:13SPEAKER_01: That you are conceived, and once you are conceived, that altar has started from that moment.
- 22:19SPEAKER_01: The moment themselves start connecting and making connections and growing, and your structure starts.
- 22:25SPEAKER_01: That's an altar.
- 22:27SPEAKER_01: You are a walking altar.
- 22:30SPEAKER_01: What you gonna do about it?
- 22:33SPEAKER_01: How are you plenishing yourself?
- 22:35SPEAKER_01: How are you keeping yourself up?
- 22:37SPEAKER_01: Physically, spiritually, emotionally?
- 22:41SPEAKER_01: Are you taking care of you?
- 22:43SPEAKER_01: Because let's be real clear, this altar right here, she is well-boomed.
- 22:50SPEAKER_01: And I ain't just talking about outside.
- 22:53SPEAKER_01: I mean inside.
- 22:57SPEAKER_01: On that note, this week, make sure you take care of your altars to include yourself.
- 23:02SPEAKER_01: If you have an altar and you have forsaken it, go dust it off, replenish it, take them old flowers off, throw them in the garbage, get some new ones, reflesh that water, clean that water off, wash your tablecloth, dust off them figurines if you got some.
- 23:19SPEAKER_01: But get it together.
- 23:21SPEAKER_01: And start with you.
- 23:23SPEAKER_01: Your first line of defense in alterhood is you.
- 23:26SPEAKER_01: I'm Scarlet Drought, heavenly minded, but always earthly good.
- 23:32SPEAKER_01: May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength and my redeeming.
- 23:44SPEAKER_01: I say.
- 23:46SPEAKER_01: From church fans decree.
- 23:48SPEAKER_01: If something about this episode stayed with you, then you're exactly who this space is for.
- 23:54SPEAKER_01: Share with a friend you think should be here too.
- 23:59SPEAKER_01: You can watch on YouTube, listen on all the podcast platforms, and continue the conversation at The Spiritual Realist.
- 24:08SPEAKER_01: I'm Scarlett Drought, heavenly minded but earthly good.
- 24:13SPEAKER_01: Until next time.
- 24:15SPEAKER_01: The Spiritual Realist is produced by Organized Movement.
- 24:19SPEAKER_02: The earth touch the DC ground.
