- 0:00Speaker 1: You're a yacht rock on.
- 0:01Speaker 2: That name screams yacht rock like Dan Vogelberg. Yeah, yeah,
- 0:04Speaker 2: he was the yacht rock music. Did you ever listen
- 0:06Speaker 2: to any of his other stuff?
- 0:07Speaker 3: I don't think so. Very Uh.
- 0:09Speaker 2: There's some very Christian based themes on his like leader
- 0:13Speaker 2: of the Leader of the Band is supposed to be
- 0:16Speaker 2: you know about Jesus.
- 0:18Speaker 1: It's supposed to be so kick in Heaven.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, yeah, so so anyway, Dan Fogelberg there, but yeah,
- 0:27Speaker 2: he fits into the yacht rock realm. And you said,
- 0:29Speaker 2: what there's the yacht rock documentary premiers tonight? Is that
- 0:32Speaker 2: the HBO Max One. There's two of them, the HBO
- 0:38Speaker 2: Max one, produced by Bill Simmons. Yeah, comes out the
- 0:41Speaker 2: twenty ninth. Okay, so, but there's another one. I thought
- 0:44Speaker 2: you supposed tonight. I thought that one was coming out
- 0:47Speaker 2: tonight and it was Thanksgiving week. But he comes out
- 0:49Speaker 2: in the twenty ninth. Okay, all right, all right, I'll
- 0:52Speaker 2: watch that. I love the documentaries Bill Simmons is but
- 0:55Speaker 2: together he is the thirty for thirty Godfathers.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely so, I thought to look forward to that.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Let's talk some basketball, long warn women getting ready to leave.
- 1:06Speaker 2: They're playing leagues in a little whiles, they head for
- 1:07Speaker 2: Southwest Florida and get some push down in that tournament.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Starting went to Mexico State tomorn Aight, and Vic Schaefer
- 1:16Speaker 2: was asked about. First of all, he was asked about
- 1:22Speaker 2: the Texas, Texas A and M rivalry because Vic remember
- 1:25Speaker 2: went to school there and he's you know, was on
- 1:28Speaker 2: Gary Blair's staff when they won the women's national championship
- 1:31Speaker 2: in twenty eleven, which of course was the year of
- 1:35Speaker 2: the final game now that was played in the fall
- 1:37Speaker 2: of twenty eleven. Vic was still there at the time,
- 1:39Speaker 2: and he was asked if Texas A and M fans
- 1:42Speaker 2: viewed Texas differently than now Texas fans and team players
- 1:47Speaker 2: in personnel view A and M.
- 1:50Speaker 4: Maybe, you know, I think there's I think you could
- 1:54Speaker 4: you could say that. You couldn't say that. I think
- 1:57Speaker 4: each year's you know, it's different. You know, it just
- 2:04Speaker 4: it kind of depends you and I both know. For instance,
- 2:07Speaker 4: when I was at Mississippi State, Ole miss was supposed
- 2:10Speaker 4: to be our rival. We beat them like six straight years,
- 2:14Speaker 4: twice a year. Well, my kids, I couldn't even it
- 2:18Speaker 4: wasn't even a matter of trying to get them up.
- 2:21Speaker 4: We had a lot of other teams on our schedule
- 2:23Speaker 4: that were got our attention a whole lot more than
- 2:26Speaker 4: that particular game. I think with this game between these
- 2:30Speaker 4: two schools, you know, each team has had its moment,
- 2:37Speaker 4: but I'm just talking about the overall rivalry between the
- 2:40Speaker 4: two schools, and I've obviously been.
- 2:43Speaker 3: On both sides.
- 2:45Speaker 4: I think just depending on the year and maybe the
- 2:51Speaker 4: previous years, you know, each place maybe puts a little
- 2:56Speaker 4: more emphasis on it than others. I think this game
- 2:59Speaker 4: Saturday Night, you can forget the rivalry the game itself.
- 3:08Speaker 4: It has so much riding on it, you know, with
- 3:11Speaker 4: the opportunity to play for the SEC Championship, that in
- 3:15Speaker 4: and of itself is enough, right, I mean, that's what
- 3:22Speaker 4: That's what the kids are going to be thinking. They
- 3:25Speaker 4: don't have any idea what happened back in the sixties
- 3:29Speaker 4: and seventies and probably don't care, right, what they care
- 3:34Speaker 4: about is playing for the SEC Championship. My kids I
- 3:38Speaker 4: have on my team when we have to go over
- 3:41Speaker 4: there and play in January, they're going to be more
- 3:46Speaker 4: worried about, more.
- 3:48Speaker 3: In tune with.
- 3:49Speaker 4: It's an SEC game and we need to win it period.
- 3:53Speaker 4: You know they haven't.
- 3:56Speaker 3: You know, you and I.
- 3:58Speaker 4: Were part of the SWC, you know, the Southwest Conference.
- 4:02Speaker 3: We know you know what all that entailed.
- 4:05Speaker 4: We know how how dominant Texas was for so long,
- 4:11Speaker 4: and so it's you know, in today's world, it probably
- 4:18Speaker 4: has a little different meaning.
- 4:19Speaker 3: I think you know what I'm talking about.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Yeah, that's one way to put he was he was
- 4:24Speaker 2: answering Kirk Bowles question about that, and he's right about
- 4:30Speaker 2: you know, the rivalry has to had some give and
- 4:31Speaker 2: take on both sides.
- 4:32Speaker 1: I will say this too.
- 4:33Speaker 2: When Vick Schaffer was on Gary Blair's staff at A
- 4:36Speaker 2: and M, Texas had a real hard time beating the Aggies.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Gail guestingcourse was the coach then, and I think A
- 4:44Speaker 2: and M won like that. Put it this way, they
- 4:46Speaker 2: had every bit as much difficulty beating A and M
- 4:49Speaker 2: as Karen Aston had trouble beating Baylor when when she
- 4:54Speaker 2: got the job at Texas, and I ironically the last
- 4:59Speaker 2: time that she coached Texas.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Against Bailor, they won that game and that was in
- 5:04Speaker 1: wake up.
- 5:05Speaker 2: But it was hard against AEM because that was going
- 5:10Speaker 2: really really well. Now, obviously in football it's been a
- 5:12Speaker 2: different thing and and now.
- 5:15Speaker 1: All it's going to be renewed.
- 5:18Speaker 2: But about his own team, Vick Schaefer was asked how
- 5:22Speaker 2: he assesses his team's play in games versus how hard
- 5:28Speaker 2: they practice, considering and the players have said this, and
- 5:31Speaker 2: Vicka said he wanted to be like this. He wants
- 5:34Speaker 2: practice to be tougher than the opponents that they face.
- 5:38Speaker 2: And he's asked about that.
- 5:39Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a great question, and it's kind of what
- 5:44Speaker 4: I'd said leading off.
- 5:46Speaker 3: We've we've had two really good practices.
- 5:49Speaker 4: Our men's practice team provides an incredible challenge for us.
- 5:53Speaker 3: Those guys are really good.
- 5:55Speaker 4: We can have a lot of failure in that practice
- 6:00Speaker 4: and I can come out out of there going, hey,
- 6:03Speaker 4: we competed today. Like That's how I felt last night.
- 6:06Speaker 4: You know, I called my staff on the way home.
- 6:08Speaker 4: I'm like, what younger practice? And you know, everybody had
- 6:12Speaker 4: their own opinion. My opinion was, Man, I felt good
- 6:15Speaker 4: about it. Even though we had a lot of failure,
- 6:17Speaker 4: we really competed.
- 6:20Speaker 3: And so.
- 6:23Speaker 4: You know, I think for me, you know, I'm always
- 6:28Speaker 4: looking for that perfect game, the complete game, the you
- 6:33Speaker 4: know where you're up thirty at half.
- 6:34Speaker 3: And you win by sixty, and you know, you can
- 6:39Speaker 3: talk at all you want. It doesn't matter what sport.
- 6:41Speaker 3: Kids are kids.
- 6:43Speaker 4: They're up thirty at half, they're not going to have
- 6:46Speaker 4: the same intendency in the second half. And I was
- 6:50Speaker 4: pleased with how we played at DePaul. That was our
- 6:54Speaker 4: first true road test. I thought we played really hard.
- 6:59Speaker 4: Didn't necessarily play well all the time, but we played
- 7:01Speaker 4: really hard. And you have to give to Paul a
- 7:04Speaker 4: lot of credit. I mean, they've got an off conference
- 7:06Speaker 4: player that was really hard for us to deal with.
- 7:12Speaker 4: We dealt really well with another guard they have that's
- 7:14Speaker 4: really talented. But I just think you know, there's there's
- 7:22Speaker 4: you do have to step back and really evaluate what
- 7:25Speaker 4: you're looking at. Because again, I wanted this week for
- 7:30Speaker 4: us to get better. We have nine days between games
- 7:34Speaker 4: where I really wanted us to be challenged and get better,
- 7:37Speaker 4: and I think we have Okay.
- 7:39Speaker 2: All right, there's some more from Vic Schaeffer and question
- 7:44Speaker 2: about going on the road because you got these three
- 7:48Speaker 2: games there. Then they're gonna play Notre Dame in the
- 7:51Speaker 2: acc SEC Challenge a week from tomorrow night in South Bend.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Notre Dame.
- 7:57Speaker 2: I think it's up to number three in the country
- 7:58Speaker 2: that beat South Carolina over the weekend. They're gonna have
- 8:01Speaker 2: to deal with that. Then they have treacherous road games
- 8:04Speaker 2: at places like James Madison and Richmond, each of them
- 8:07Speaker 2: were in Sea Tournament games. A Vic had to schedule
- 8:09Speaker 2: home and home with those just to be able to
- 8:11Speaker 2: fill out his schedule.
- 8:12Speaker 1: So he was asked about how confident.
- 8:15Speaker 2: Is his team heading into this difficult road stretch coming
- 8:20Speaker 2: up for them.
- 8:20Speaker 3: Yeah, I think my team's pretty confident.
- 8:23Speaker 4: I think they're you know, they're a veteran group, five seniors,
- 8:29Speaker 4: they've been to the Wars, and so I think they're
- 8:33Speaker 4: very confident.
- 8:34Speaker 3: And now I don't.
- 8:37Speaker 4: That doesn't mean anything's gonna translate into wins, but from
- 8:40Speaker 4: a confidence, say, if we get beat at ain't gonna
- 8:43Speaker 4: because we're all tied up and can't function.
- 8:45Speaker 3: I'll say that, you know, it's it's a confident group.
- 8:50Speaker 4: And again I'm I'm proud of them because I feel
- 8:54Speaker 4: like we've worked really hard in the last couple of
- 8:56Speaker 4: days and got better. Uh, we had a lot of
- 8:59Speaker 4: failure in pro just but we still got better. And
- 9:02Speaker 4: that's how you grow. You've got to fail. Failure is
- 9:05Speaker 4: part of success. Failure is part of growth, and if
- 9:09Speaker 4: all we were having is Kumbaya and everybody's you know, uh,
- 9:14Speaker 4: it's it's like I told my team the other day,
- 9:18Speaker 4: I can get We've got an unbelievable practice team. I said, naw,
- 9:23Speaker 4: you want me to go, I'll go down to the
- 9:25Speaker 4: old folks home and see if I can get some
- 9:27Speaker 4: you know, older folks come down here and scrimmage us.
- 9:29Speaker 4: And that afternoon, Booker sends me a picture of some
- 9:32Speaker 4: people sitting out on the porch.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Uh.
- 9:35Speaker 4: She said, hey, coach, I found us some practice players.
- 9:38Speaker 4: And uh, I'm like, no, it's but that that's where
- 9:42Speaker 4: we're at. Like we've gotten better and you know, so
- 9:47Speaker 4: I feel good.
- 9:48Speaker 3: About where we're at.
- 9:49Speaker 4: I think our team feels good about it, and you know,
- 9:53Speaker 4: we'll we'll keep working in in uh in practice. But
- 9:59Speaker 4: I feel really good about where my team is right now.
- 10:02Speaker 4: Now again, it's real world's coming and we're gonna have
- 10:08Speaker 4: to be able to handle it and function. But the
- 10:11Speaker 4: script's been to a lot of wars, many they've had
- 10:13Speaker 4: a lot of success in their career, and my young
- 10:17Speaker 4: kids are very very confident. Those three freshmen are unique.
- 10:20Speaker 4: They're special. You know, we all know Booker special Rory.
- 10:26Speaker 4: You know, you start, You've got a team that starts
- 10:28Speaker 4: with Rory Harmon and Madison Booker at guard. That's a
- 10:32Speaker 4: good place to start. But I feel like lead Moore's
- 10:36Speaker 4: getting healthy. Man a bit different team when you've got
- 10:40Speaker 4: a Lion Moore that's healthy. And then Taylor's had a
- 10:43Speaker 4: really good summer and a good fall, and Kyle has
- 10:47Speaker 4: come in and done a great job at five as well.
- 10:50Speaker 4: So you know, well, well we should be okay. I'm
- 10:54Speaker 4: very pleased with where we.
- 10:55Speaker 3: Are right now.
- 10:56Speaker 2: And one more from Vic Shavor asking about these next
- 10:58Speaker 2: three games down on Soide with Florida. How important are
- 11:01Speaker 2: those four continuing to build the team chemistry that he
- 11:05Speaker 2: always wants to have from his group.
- 11:07Speaker 4: Yeah, Lila's looked good the last couple of days, so
- 11:10Speaker 4: I would have assumed she's going to be, you know,
- 11:13Speaker 4: ready to go on Friday.
- 11:15Speaker 3: And again, love our depth at guard.
- 11:19Speaker 4: We've just not had it and we finally have it,
- 11:23Speaker 4: and so really really love our depth at guard, and
- 11:28Speaker 4: so I'm I'm you know, I think we're going to
- 11:30Speaker 4: be in good shape there and and it has been hard.
- 11:35Speaker 3: To that's kind of been part of our issue.
- 11:38Speaker 4: You know, you're up thirty at half uh and then
- 11:43Speaker 4: you you kind of start messing with some combinations in
- 11:45Speaker 4: the second half and they're just not good combinations.
- 11:48Speaker 3: They just they don't.
- 11:49Speaker 4: Quite have the chemistry yet that some of your veterans
- 11:53Speaker 4: have together and so but that's why you play those
- 11:56Speaker 4: games early to try to develop it. So I'm I'm
- 12:00Speaker 4: fine with it. We've got to continue to work at it.
- 12:03Speaker 4: We have in practice. I've had that some different groups
- 12:10Speaker 4: playing together the last couple of days to see if
- 12:12Speaker 4: we can develop that. And they'll be lifting off here
- 12:16Speaker 4: in about a half an hour to fly down to Florida.
- 12:18Speaker 1: We'll hear more from Vig Shaeffer coming up next hour.
- 12:20Speaker 2: Up next, we'll hear from a couple of the men's players,
- 12:23Speaker 2: Kenda Weaver and Arthur Kaluma, and we'll check in with
- 12:27Speaker 2: some of your texts as well. I asked, what's your
- 12:30Speaker 2: most poignant Cowboys Thanksgiving Day?
- 12:34Speaker 3: Memory?
- 12:35Speaker 2: Can be a win, it can be a loss, could
- 12:36Speaker 2: be whatever. It might be family sitting there watching a
- 12:39Speaker 2: certain game or whatever. What's your family or your most
- 12:43Speaker 2: poignant Cowboys Thanksgiving memory. We'll get some of more of
- 12:48Speaker 2: those coming up when we continue on Sports radio AM
- 12:50Speaker 2: thirteen under the zone.
