- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning. Question of the day.
- 0:30What emotions do you primarily reside in now?
- 0:34Now, many of you are long time listeners and you have read my
- 0:38book Who's Driving Your bus? Some of you are new and you
- 0:41haven't read that book. But you know, in that book, I
- 0:43identify the fact that we reside in primary emotions and they
- 0:47drive us and they they take our entire world over and most of us
- 0:51have three to five primary drivers that are, are drivers
- 0:55that that they just stick with us.
- 0:57So one of my main drivers is certainty.
- 1:01And for me, that is one that is very sticky.
- 1:04It's very hard to get rid of. And with all the weather that's
- 1:09going on and all the storms that are coming down South, I keep
- 1:13thinking and looping about the water freezing, being able to
- 1:18take care of the chickens. It's going to be colder than
- 1:20it's ever been. Wind chills down, like, Oh my
- 1:23gosh, what do I do? Do I keep them in?
- 1:25Do I put them out? And this is all based on the
- 1:27fact that my certainty girl has been presented with a problem
- 1:31that she can't readily solve. And then and so of course, she
- 1:35keeps showing up because she's trying to solve that problem.
- 1:38And no matter what I do, no matter how I do it, no matter
- 1:40what I look at, she's going to keep haunting me because that's
- 1:43a question that needs to be answered.
- 1:45And we forget how quickly those emotions keep coming back and
- 1:48back and back. And even after all these years
- 1:50of doing this, I still have to manage her.
- 1:53I still have to find a way to work with her and manage her.
- 1:57And it's not a question of getting rid of her.
- 2:00It's a question of working with her, knowing she has my best
- 2:04interest at heart, thinking about, OK, well, should I keep
- 2:08them inside? Should I let them out?
- 2:09Do they know best? Like just all kinds of of
- 2:13questions going on and, you know, now snow is coming, that
- 2:18complicates it even further. What to do?
- 2:21Will they go out? Will they stay in?
- 2:23How about we give them the choice?
- 2:24You know, my creativity is showing up, trying to help solve
- 2:27the problem and arguing with my certainty.
- 2:31And the reason we're having this conversation is everybody goes
- 2:34through this. Everybody goes through this in
- 2:36multiple situations where their primary emotions will show up
- 2:40and drive them. And, and you get to decide if
- 2:44they drive you insane or they drive you to peace or they drive
- 2:47you to being neutral, you solve it or you drive them and say,
- 2:52oh, you know what? This is not the best driver at
- 2:55this point in time. It's a constant and never ending
- 2:58reminder to me that we have to be aware and we have to be
- 3:02flexible and we have to be understanding that it's our job
- 3:06to manage our emotions. When we say that, it's not just
- 3:10to mean shut them up. I, I can't stress that enough
- 3:13because I had a client just yesterday say to me, hey, when I
- 3:18was talking about managing emotions, he said I can't shut
- 3:20them up. I said, wait a minute, do you
- 3:21believe that managing emotions is shutting them up?
- 3:24And he goes, yeah, isn't that what you mean?
- 3:25I said, no, that is not at all what I mean.
- 3:28When you manage your emotions, you work with them, you
- 3:31understand them, you listen to them, and then you use the full,
- 3:36full gamut of drivers that we have, not just the three to five
- 3:40that like to show up because they're your favorites over the
- 3:43years. So it's all a work in progress,
- 3:45my friends. Every part of this is a work in
- 3:48progress and I can't stress it enough that you have to pay
- 3:51attention to it over and over, over and over, over and over.
- 3:55So this morning is a reminder to you to check in and it's the end
- 4:00of the month. We're right at the end of
- 4:02January. So some people are going to feel
- 4:03completely pissed off, overwhelmed, all those things
- 4:07that they did not get what they wanted to out of, of whatever it
- 4:11was that was going on. They didn't get it, they didn't
- 4:14get it, they didn't get it. And there and those emotions are
- 4:17going to be looping, looping, looping, looping, looping,
- 4:19looping, looping. So it's really, really, really
- 4:22important to understand that those emotions are here to help
- 4:26you, not hurt you. And if you can get that in your
- 4:29head, if you can really get that in your head, then you've got an
- 4:32opportunity to manage them, utilize them, listen to them,
- 4:38work with them. Otherwise they'll take over and
- 4:40they'll destroy your day and destroy whatever else you have
- 4:43going on because they're going to keep talking to you and
- 4:45they're going to annoy the hell out of you.
- 4:47So remember, check in and choose.
- 4:50Remember the little phrase in the book.
- 4:51If you haven't read it, I recommend getting the book.
- 4:54It's stop, reflect, choose redirect.
- 4:58Very simple. Stop when you feel those the the
- 5:02overwhelm and really listen to what it's trying to tell you.
- 5:07Remember stop, reflect, choose redirect.
- 5:11OK my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I will see you
- 5:13all tomorrow. Bye.
