Speaker 1: Welcome back to Couples Counseling with Chelsea. And I'm here
• 0:03
Speaker 1: with three of my friends. They are not a couple,
• 0:06
Speaker 1: they're a threaple and they're not romantically involved either. There
• 0:09
Speaker 1: are three comedians named Amina Amani, Sydney Washington, and Marie
• 0:13
Speaker 1: Fouston and they are a friendship threaple and I spent
• 0:16
Speaker 1: some time with them a whistler and heard a lot
• 0:19
Speaker 1: about their beef, so I thought I would bring them
• 0:21
Speaker 1: onto the podcast. Okay, So in your experience with your
• 0:26
Speaker 1: relationship experience, when do you think the best time to
• 0:29
Speaker 1: be brutally honest with your good friends is all the time?
• 0:32
Speaker 1: Or do you depick certain moments to be brutally Honestick,
• 0:36
Speaker 1: we gotta pick our moments?
• 0:37
  Speaker 2: Can you do?
• 0:38
  Speaker 3: Yeah?
• 0:38
  Speaker 2: I gotta piment.
• 0:39
Speaker 4: Is that how you girls feel, Marie and Sydney.
• 0:42
Speaker 2: Uh, I think that sometimes you got to hit somebody
• 0:45
Speaker 2: with the honest truth. There's the right time to do it,
• 0:48
Speaker 2: in a wrong time to do it, and there's a
• 0:49
Speaker 2: right way to do it, in a wrong way to
• 0:51
Speaker 2: do it. You know, don't do it in front of
• 0:53
Speaker 2: everybody all loud at brunch.
• 0:55
Speaker 4: Don't drag me at brunch.
• 0:56
Speaker 2: You know, maybe if it's just us and we're on
• 0:58
Speaker 2: FaceTime and we will have our face masks on, you
• 1:01
Speaker 2: could do it. You could do it there when I'm
• 1:03
Speaker 2: wearing a you know, a little Korean skincare mask.
• 1:07
Speaker 4: But you know, don't do it over my food.
• 1:09
Speaker 2: That's crazy because me and Emeana are always being too
• 1:12
Speaker 2: honest at brunch. That's I think that turn am out brun.
• 1:16
Speaker 2: That's the relationship that y'all have. Yeah, well, I feel
• 1:19
Speaker 2: like Maria is always brutally honest. I feel like Sidney,
• 1:24
Speaker 2: her honesty is different, like she has a different language.
• 1:28
Speaker 2: It has to be kind of translated right, Like she'll
• 1:31
Speaker 2: say something in her mind she said it, and you'd
• 1:33
Speaker 2: be like, you didn't say what you thought you said.
• 1:35
Speaker 2: So I feel like that's and then now for me,
• 1:38
Speaker 2: I've learned to only give my honesty when it's a stuff.
• 1:41
  Speaker 2: But y'all, y'all wouldn't agree. I don't think I just
• 1:44
Speaker 2: throw my honesty on y'all. Y'all gotta call me for
• 1:46
  Speaker 2: my honesty.
• 1:47
Speaker 4: Marie, what you think, Amana?
• 1:48
Speaker 2: You called me brutally honest, and that's why I think
• 1:55
Speaker 2: I'm honest. But I don't think anything about but honesty
• 1:58
Speaker 2: is brutal. Well, I don't know if I say brutal,
• 2:00
Speaker 2: but like I feel like you're gonna be You're not
• 2:02
Speaker 2: gonna sugarcoat. And when I say brutal, I mean like
• 2:04
Speaker 2: you not gonna say how do I think this person
• 2:07
Speaker 2: would take this? I feel like you would just say
• 2:08
Speaker 2: it how you say it. That's what I mean by
• 2:10
  Speaker 2: brutally honest.
• 2:11
Speaker 3: Maria, You're pretty brutal. You're pretty brutal. If you if
• 2:14
Speaker 3: somebody shows you like who they did, You're.
• 2:15
Speaker 2: Like, oh, oh oh that that Oh okay, right, Or
• 2:22
Speaker 2: she'd be like, oh my god, what you got on?
• 2:26
Speaker 3: They're like, so was that there were that with you? Oh?
• 2:31
Speaker 3: They couldn't be me, couldn't be me?
• 2:33
Speaker 2: That's cute for you. Yeah, No, Amina, I think that
• 2:36
Speaker 2: you're very honest. See how I didn't use the word
• 2:39
Speaker 2: brutal very to your I think you're very honest. But
• 2:43
Speaker 2: you also know how to articulate what you mean and
• 2:45
Speaker 2: why you why you feel how you feel. So I
• 2:47
  Speaker 2: think that that's that's good, right, Yeah, I think that's
• 2:50
  Speaker 2: a good that's a good trait. I feel like, in
• 2:52
Speaker 2: the sense of us being honest with each other, we've
• 2:54
Speaker 2: gotten to that moment where we've had to like intervene, right, So,
• 2:57
Speaker 2: like I had a mental breakdown, y'all came and got me.
• 3:00
Speaker 2: Sydney had like her apartment all in disarrayed. We came
• 3:03
Speaker 2: and pulled up to her apartment, got it fixed together.
• 3:06
  Speaker 3: You know.
• 3:06
Speaker 2: Marie was down a little bit, vibrating low. We came
• 3:09
Speaker 2: and picked her up. So I feel like at those moments,
• 3:11
Speaker 2: we're like, since we see you and we're.
• 3:13
Speaker 4: Here, what were you gonna say? Said?
• 3:16
Speaker 2: I said, yeah, no, we went to go, you know,
• 3:17
Speaker 2: pick Marie up, and then I got COVID.
• 3:19
Speaker 3: But that was great. You know, I was worth it.
• 3:21
Speaker 3: It was worth it.
• 3:22
Speaker 2: It was worth it. I wouldn't take it back any
• 3:24
Speaker 2: other way. I want it that way. Actually, me and
• 3:27
Speaker 2: Marie got COVID the same time, at the same time, twice,
• 3:31
Speaker 2: two times. I was just glad that it wasn't my
• 3:33
Speaker 2: fault because they called me a super spreader the whole time,
• 3:36
Speaker 2: and so well, as long as they didn't get it
• 3:37
Speaker 2: when I had it.
• 3:38
Speaker 3: Mina, you were on safari when when like Tom.
• 3:42
Speaker 2: Cruise got I mean not Tom Cruise, who was the
• 3:43
Speaker 2: first white man to get COVID. You, I feel like,
• 3:51
Speaker 2: but y'all didn't get it from me, and that's the
• 3:52
Speaker 2: only point. That's what I'm saying. We didn't get it
• 3:54
Speaker 2: from you. But but Mateo got tested because of you
• 3:56
Speaker 2: that first time. Yeah, was he all right?
• 4:00
Speaker 3: No, we can't think.
• 4:06
Speaker 2: They did have to get a lot of COVID tests
• 4:07
Speaker 2: because of me, but none of them came back post.
• 4:09
Speaker 1: Well, there was always somebody at the outset of COVID
• 4:11
Speaker 1: that was spreading COVID around or thought to be spreading
• 4:13
Speaker 1: COVID around, and then eventually we all stopped giving a
• 4:16
  Speaker 1: shit who was.
• 4:16
  Speaker 4: Spreading it around?
• 4:17
  Speaker 2: Yeah?
• 4:18
Speaker 1: Absolutely, Okay, let's talk about because you both you all
• 4:25
Speaker 1: have kind of different things going on personally, so let's
• 4:28
Speaker 1: talk about the idea of being stand up comics and
• 4:31
Speaker 1: living a life. Right now, you're all single women technically
• 4:35
Speaker 1: and having everything that you want.
• 4:37
Speaker 4: Do you feel that that's possible.
• 4:39
Speaker 1: I know you've said that when we've been on the road,
• 4:40
Speaker 1: You're like, I want to have it all and I
• 4:42
Speaker 1: can have it all.
• 4:43
Speaker 2: Oh, I must have been vibrating had it because the
• 4:48
Speaker 2: day I'm like, you're gonna lose something, you win one,
• 4:53
  Speaker 2: you lose one.
• 4:56
Speaker 3: I'll speak on this.
• 4:58
Speaker 2: I think when certain asked of your life that's going
• 5:01
Speaker 2: really well, the other part might not, you know, be
• 5:04
Speaker 2: carrying on the same way, and you can have it all,
• 5:08
Speaker 2: maybe not all at the same time, but I can
• 5:11
Speaker 2: honestly say like, oh, I've had money before, but you know,
• 5:14
Speaker 2: my mental health was a mess, or I've been in
• 5:16
Speaker 2: a relationship but my mental health was a mess.
• 5:20
  Speaker 3: I've had money and a relationship. I'm a mess. Like
• 5:24
Speaker 3: I feel like it will all work out.
• 5:26
Speaker 2: I think we need to define having it all more
• 5:29
Speaker 2: realistically because I think we're putting too much pressure on
• 5:34
Speaker 2: what is having it off anyway, Yeah, but having it
• 5:37
Speaker 2: all for me, I think it depends on what you want, right,
• 5:39
Speaker 2: So like having it all for me would be the money,
• 5:41
Speaker 2: it would be the love life, it would be the career,
• 5:43
Speaker 2: and it would be my fitness. I feel like a
• 5:44
Speaker 2: fluctuate in my weight a lot. So it's like if
• 5:46
Speaker 2: all those things were here at the top of the mountain,
• 5:49
Speaker 2: then maybe I'll probably look for something else to not have.
• 5:53
Speaker 2: But I'm also like, those are the things that I
• 5:55
Speaker 2: feel like are the ones that are most important.
• 5:57
Speaker 3: You know, that's a lot of me. So you want abs,
• 6:00
  Speaker 3: you want.
• 6:01
Speaker 2: A man, abs and ass you want ass, and she
• 6:04
Speaker 2: wants but all the time, but that Dick also needs
• 6:12
Speaker 2: to have it all, like the dig you know, a
• 6:15
Speaker 2: nice house and all of their teeth probably and you
• 6:19
Speaker 2: know things like that. So that's the thing. I feel
• 6:21
Speaker 2: like you could have it all, and then maybe those
• 6:23
Speaker 2: things on the other just kind of teeter and not
• 6:26
Speaker 2: be as great maybe. I mean, I kind of agree
• 6:28
Speaker 2: with Sydney. I think that as working women we can
• 6:32
Speaker 2: have it all. I just don't think you can have
• 6:34
Speaker 2: it all at the same exact time. I think if
• 6:37
Speaker 2: your career is thriving, other stuff might be fallen by
• 6:39
Speaker 2: the wayside. Maybe you have a cute situationship that doesn't
• 6:42
Speaker 2: stress you out, or if your relationship is thriving, maybe
• 6:45
Speaker 2: you're not really all that focused on work because you're like,
• 6:48
Speaker 2: I'm happy, I'm getting it, like you know what I mean.
• 6:51
Speaker 2: But I expect to have it all and I think
• 6:54
Speaker 2: that I will. But I'm also a little bit du lulu,
• 6:57
Speaker 2: so you know the.
• 6:58
Speaker 3: Best way to be.
• 6:59
Speaker 2: I mean, Chelsea, we're up and coming, convenience. I mean
• 7:02
Speaker 2: you you, I feel like you're at a place where
• 7:04
Speaker 2: I think, can you say, being in this career that
• 7:07
Speaker 2: you can have it all? I mean, we're looking at you.
• 7:10
Speaker 2: Check out how brass the lumps right now?
• 7:12
Speaker 1: Just bessage in my nipples, almost checking to see how
• 7:16
Speaker 1: hard my nipples were. That's how I know if it's
• 7:19
Speaker 1: the right temperature for me. I prefer them to be
• 7:21
Speaker 1: a little bit crispy, you know what.
• 7:23
Speaker 4: I mean, not soft and not too hard. Yeah, I
• 7:25
Speaker 4: think it's what is all to you For me.
• 7:28
Speaker 1: All doesn't mean marriage and a baby, you know, or
• 7:31
Speaker 1: a child and too many, too many professional women they
• 7:34
Speaker 1: want to achieve that while also achieving professional success. So,
• 7:38
Speaker 1: I mean, my idea of having it all is sharing
• 7:41
Speaker 1: and having tons of vacation time in conjunction with work,
• 7:45
Speaker 1: and making my own schedule and making my own rules
• 7:48
Speaker 1: and deciding what I'm going to do and what I'm
• 7:50
Speaker 1: not going to do without anybody telling me what I'm
• 7:52
Speaker 1: going to do and what I'm not going to do.
• 7:54
Speaker 4: Is my idea of success.
• 7:56
Speaker 2: Well, it sounds like you have it all then, bid.
• 7:58
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, maybe maybe some version of that.
• 8:02
Speaker 2: Do you guys feel do you guys.
• 8:03
Speaker 1: Ever get competitive with one another? How does that work
• 8:06
Speaker 1: or present itself? Or are you able to kind of
• 8:09
Speaker 1: really cheer each other on while also sometimes getting competitive.
• 8:13
Speaker 2: Speaking on my on me, I am not competitive. I
• 8:18
Speaker 2: just want to be in similar lanes with my friends.
• 8:22
  Speaker 2: I don't want to be too behind. I don't want
• 8:25
Speaker 2: to be I don't need to be exactly where they are,
• 8:28
Speaker 2: but I don't want to be you know, the rut
• 8:30
Speaker 2: of the crew in a sense of it doesn't even
• 8:34
Speaker 2: have to be like career wise, but sometimes like even energy, energy, vibrations, comedy,
• 8:41
Speaker 2: you know, I love when we're all together. It feels
• 8:43
Speaker 2: like we're all bringing something together and nobody is lacking.
• 8:49
  Speaker 4: Well.
• 8:49
Speaker 1: I think that's one of the things that I experienced
• 8:51
Speaker 1: when I was coming up as a comic, was like
• 8:53
Speaker 1: your friend groups, because there's friends that are really rooting
• 8:56
Speaker 1: you for you. But it's very hard not to get
• 8:59
Speaker 1: jealous when you see someone get an opportunity that you want,
• 9:03
Speaker 1: but also to understand that's a natural emotion, and you
• 9:05
Speaker 1: can still be supportive of someone when they're exceeding beyond
• 9:10
Speaker 1: your own success at that moment, because there's a.
• 9:12
Speaker 2: Time for all of us.
• 9:13
Speaker 1: So I found growing up with some girls a lot
• 9:16
Speaker 1: less competitive, and when I did was around women that
• 9:19
Speaker 1: were really competitive, I couldn't be friends with them, like
• 9:22
Speaker 1: on a personal level, but I also was at a
• 9:24
Speaker 1: time in my life where I had my own TV show,
• 9:26
Speaker 1: so everyone that was on the show, I was the boss.
• 9:31
Speaker 1: So there's like, well, I'm not going to be competitive
• 9:33
Speaker 1: because I'm the one in charge. So I had a
• 9:35
Speaker 1: different dynamic, which wasn't necessarily fair to all of the
• 9:38
Speaker 1: other women that were on the show because they were like,
• 9:40
Speaker 1: we want that, we want that, you know, so you
• 9:43
Speaker 1: can take your success for granted and not realize that
• 9:46
Speaker 1: you're not having to hit the pavement in the way
• 9:47
Speaker 1: that other people are having to hit the pavement. And
• 9:50
Speaker 1: then conversely, that can all change in a matter you
• 9:53
Speaker 1: know of weeks, months, years, whatever. Everyone's success comes at
• 9:57
Speaker 1: different times. But I hear what you're saying sending about
• 9:59
Speaker 1: not wanting to be like the runt of the litter
• 10:02
Speaker 1: in a friend group.
• 10:02
Speaker 4: No one wants that. It's not fun.
• 10:05
Speaker 2: But I do think that like if somebody is getting something,
• 10:08
  Speaker 2: it's like, oh, that's amazing, that's that's also a win
• 10:11
Speaker 2: for the group. That's like that brings the group up
• 10:15
Speaker 2: because it's like, oh, we're all in the right direction.
• 10:17
Speaker 2: I think Samuel Jackson had a quote where he was like,
• 10:21
Speaker 2: I was in a he was in theater and he
• 10:23
Speaker 2: was seeing different people get plucked out and he was like,
• 10:26
  Speaker 2: I'm not that.
• 10:26
Speaker 3: I'm one degree from that, so that means I'm in
• 10:28
  Speaker 3: the right place.
• 10:29
Speaker 2: So you saw that on TikTok. You're reading an audio book, babe,
• 10:36
Speaker 2: Oh my god. Every time I huzard, no, it's from TikTok.
• 10:41
Speaker 2: She yeah, she didn't see a tweet. No, TikTok. Sydney
• 10:46
Speaker 2: would be like I saw this article. We'd be like, TikTok, TikTok,
• 10:51
Speaker 2: you saw ai video Samuel Jackson saying it quote every
• 10:57
Speaker 2: everybody is on TikTok, So it's not just me getting
• 10:59
  Speaker 2: this from.
• 11:00
Speaker 3: That's why it's viral. Okay, thank you verious.
• 11:02
Speaker 2: Sidney. Everything you watch is not viral though. Sometimes you
• 11:06
Speaker 2: just see stuff and nobody else sees it and it's
• 11:08
Speaker 2: your algorithm, right said to deceive you.
• 11:10
