- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn French with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode 181 — can you believe it? Lucas: I know. And today we're doing something that really helps lock things in: a recap of ordinal numbers. Luna: Oh good, because last time I was still mixing up deuxième and troisième in conversation. Lucas: Totally normal. Let's start with the first one: premier. Luna: Premier. Lucas: Premier means first. Like le premier jour — the first day. Luna: Le premier jour. Got it. Lucas: Next: deuxième. Luna: Deuxième. That's second, right? Lucas: Exactly. La deuxième rue — the second street. Luna: La deuxième rue. Lucas: Now troisième. Luna: Troisième. Third. Like le troisième étage — the third floor. Lucas: Yes! And quatrième. Luna: Quatrième. Fourth. La quatrième fois — the fourth time. Lucas: Perfect. And finally cinquième. Luna: Cinquième. Fifth. Le cinquième arrondissement — the fifth district. Lucas: You've got them. Let's do a quick run through all five. Repeat after me: premier. Luna: Premier. Lucas: Deuxième. Luna: Deuxième. Lucas: Troisième. Luna: Troisième. Lucas: Quatrième. Luna: Quatrième. Lucas: Cinquième. Luna: Cinquième. Ah, that felt good. Lucas: Now let's put them in a mini story. Imagine you're running a race. Luna: Okay, I'm picturing it. Lucas: You come in premier, first place. Luna: Je suis premier. Lucas: Then your friend comes in deuxième. Luna: Mon ami est deuxième. Lucas: And another friend troisième. Luna: Et une autre amie est troisième. Lucas: Nice. And the next two runners are quatrième and cinquième. Luna: Les coureurs suivants sont quatrième et cinquième. Lucas: You're using them naturally already. Luna: It helps when you have a story. Lucas: Let's switch to giving directions. 'Take the first street.' What's first? Luna: Premier. Prenez la première rue. Lucas: Then the second street. Luna: Prenez la deuxième rue. Lucas: And the third. Luna: Prenez la troisième rue. Lucas: You're on a roll. Luna: Okay, I want to try a full sentence. Le cinquième jour de la semaine est vendredi. Lucas: That's correct. The fifth day of the week is Friday. Well done. Luna: Yay. Lucas: You know, it's moments like this that remind me why I love making this show. Luna: Me too. And I love that we keep it simple and ad-free. Lucas: Absolutely. We deliberately don't run ads on these episodes. If you want to support that choice, the link is buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: Yeah, every little bit helps us keep doing what we do. Lucas: So, back to ordinal numbers. Let's do a quick review game. Luna: I'm ready. Give me a number in English. Lucas: Third. Luna: Troisième. Lucas: First. Luna: Premier. Lucas: Fifth. Luna: Cinquième. Lucas: Second. Luna: Deuxième. Lucas: Fourth. Luna: Quatrième. Lucas: Perfect score. Luna: I think I've got them now. Lucas: One more thing: remember that premier has a feminine form, première. Luna: Oh right, la première fois. Lucas: Exactly. But the others stay the same: deuxième, troisième, quatrième, cinquième. Luna: Good tip. Lucas: Let's practice with feminine nouns. La première leçon. Luna: La première leçon. Lucas: La deuxième chanson. Luna: La deuxième chanson. Lucas: La troisième porte. Luna: La troisième porte. Lucas: La quatrième page. Luna: La quatrième page. Lucas: La cinquième place. Luna: La cinquième place. Lucas: You did great today, Luna. Luna: Thanks Lucas. This recap really helped. Lucas: Remember to practice these ordinal numbers in your daily life. Count the floors in your building, the streets you cross. Luna: Or the episodes of your favorite podcast. Lucas: Exactly. This is episode 181, so we're past the centième. Luna: Wow, we are. Well, practice these and we'll see you next time. Lucas: Au revoir et à bientôt.
