- 1:16run. Hit by mr.
- 1:17Aaron judge in person. Totally on a whim.
- 1:20Shoutout to the Texas Rangers Scout that gave me the tickets.
- 1:25I was able to take the kids. It was awesome.
- 1:28Hey, good stuff, applied. How are you this evening, sir?
- 1:33Sir, I have survived the tornado, that was my day and I'm
- 1:39here with two legends and then the rest of the show.
- 1:43So, wow. So I'm going to guess that you
- 1:49had a guest appearance of compliance or something today or
- 1:51something. I guess that's what everybody
- 1:54today. Oh my gosh, you know, that
- 1:58Governor while I don't know what you're trying to come out of my
- 2:00mouth Governor. How are you tonight, sir?
- 2:03Doing well, you know, we're in, we're in that month the October
- 2:09month, you know, where, you know, all of a sudden there is a
- 2:1340 degree difference between when you wake up in the morning
- 2:17and when you get to mid-day, you know, it's interesting.
- 2:21Interesting stuff. But other than that doing, well,
- 2:27everybody's fine and can't wait to do this show, this is
- 2:30exciting. Right.
- 2:32Right, right. Well, if you don't recognize the
- 2:37two others tiles. I'ma need you to check yourself
- 2:40real quick and I don't know where you've been for a while
- 2:44now but I'm definitely will get started and welcome Miss.
- 2:49Abby, Steiner and her coach Tim Hall.
- 2:51Welcome, welcome Abby, how are you tonight?
- 2:54I'm great thank you for having me.
- 2:56Of course, thanks for jumping on, I promise.
- 2:58This is we're going to try to make it one of the more fun Zoom
- 3:01call. That you have.
- 3:02So how are you tonight? Sir fantastic alluded to
- 3:13earlier, we're back to training. His Superstar young lady, back
- 3:17in the training mode. So all is well, all right.
- 3:21The Peace of Peace has arrived dust is settled normal.
- 3:25Speaking return, right? Isn't that weird how we feel
- 3:28abnormal whenever that happens? Absolutely, I mean we are
- 3:32gluttony for pain that is for sure.
- 3:34We are definitely a glutton for pain, anyhow.
- 3:39Well I'm definitely I'll open the floor for the gentleman to I
- 3:43know they're already like salivating and ready to ask a
- 3:46couple questions. Look at it like that's like
- 3:49perched. Yeah I mean when you told us who
- 3:54was going to be on the show tonight I mean there was there
- 3:56were a couple you know question marks like And Abby.
- 4:02Oh, okay. Right, right.
- 4:04We didn't hear about Abby to the last minute.
- 4:06Exactly. Exactly.
- 4:08We can't give your old toys. That's right.
- 4:11That's right. We're happy to see Tim.
- 4:13We love Tim. So so many, so many questions.
- 4:21I mean, this came to my mind and and yes, I mean, I have been
- 4:24one. One of the coaches on these
- 4:28panel on this panel that has been following your career.
- 4:32From high school and you know and I remember the grainy video,
- 4:36you know this this this young lady just doing incredible
- 4:38things and then we get the news that you know, you're coming to
- 4:44Kentucky to play soccer, right? And so we're all just kind of
- 4:48like okay alright she's made her decision right?
- 4:52And then the decision changes to to run track and I'm sure Tim at
- 5:00that point was dancing. A But but I want to know, this
- 5:06is just one of my many questions.
- 5:08I want to know what you've taken from your time playing soccer.
- 5:13And if anything has anything translated into, what you do in
- 5:18track, is there anything about your soccer days that you still
- 5:22hold onto that that has helped you be successful in track?
- 5:27That's a good question because they definitely are very
- 5:30different Ports chalk is obviously you are working
- 5:34together as a team for the team corn maze.
- 5:36But really what that comes down to is you doing your individual
- 5:40job, where soccer is used literally depend on everyone.
- 5:45All 11 on the field from goalie to forward to get that ball down
- 5:48the field. I think that a lot of my work
- 5:52ethic that I have today, came from my socket has, I started
- 5:58playing club. Soccer really young like eight
- 6:01years. Or so I just grew up in such a
- 6:06competitive Sports environment where everyone was willing to
- 6:10work hard and you know, there to support each other.
- 6:13And I mean, soccer is a grind here, playing 90 minutes and
- 6:17you're running the entire time I was running like 10 miles a game
- 6:20or something like that. So I think a lot of what I
- 6:23learned from soccer is just almost that like work ethic of
- 6:28how to dig deep in those moments.
- 6:30When I heard It's, um, and I think obviously a lot of that
- 6:34applies to track workouts, because I've every track,
- 6:36workout hurts and its own way. So I think a lot of that and
- 6:41then, you know, obviously the team stuff does translate and
- 6:44helped me to, you know, be a leader for our team to finished
- 6:47third place. But yeah, I would say a lot of
- 6:50that work. Ethic applies from soccer to
- 6:53what I'm doing today. All right, before you jump in
- 6:57their Clan. I want to, I want to throw one
- 6:59question in because it's kind of related to the same soccer
- 7:02situation. So, Abby, I'm old and I, I used
- 7:07to be friends with the bunch of people on, on the will say, the
- 7:11original u.s. women's soccer team and Mia, Hamm's always
- 7:15known as the fastest player in the world.
- 7:17She was substantially faster than everybody else in the South
- 7:19Korea. Mia Hamm is like, thrower, fast
- 7:21in comparison to you. I've never seen you play soccer,
- 7:24but I I cannot imagine you on a soccer field, right?
- 7:31Like I just can't imagine that because the, like, those people
- 7:35are grinders, they're not fast like that.
- 7:39So, like I'm not questioning your skills at all.
- 7:42I'm just wondering, was it? Like almost like little kids
- 7:45soccer where it's like, you just kick the ball in front of you
- 7:46and just ran real fast? Okay, well, of course you have
- 7:51to be technical, I couldn't However, a lot of my skills that
- 7:58was was running. And I think that's why I like
- 8:03eventually I looked that sport in the face and I was like,
- 8:05okay, what do I actually enjoy about soccer?
- 8:07Well, I enjoy running up and down the field so maybe this
- 8:11isn't actually the sport. I enjoy and I enjoy the Running
- 8:14part of it, but yeah, that was a big strength of mine and I was
- 8:17always outside players. I was constantly just like
- 8:20making runs and getting through walls and like that was that was
- 8:23my thing. But like he said, it's
- 8:24whirlwind. Are you were a Winger?
- 8:26Yeah I was mostly outside back growing up and then we kind of
- 8:32played around with it when I came to college.
- 8:33But yeah, basically my whole club soccer career.
- 8:35I was I think we played like a before court or a 4-3-3 child
- 8:39was one of those two outside backs and I would just run up
- 8:42and down the hill. That's all I can picture is,
- 8:47right? Like it's like they're all in
- 8:49dial up and she's like, yeah, welcome arnout nowadays.
- 8:55You would be considered a hybrid, you know, the because
- 8:59today's today's soccer requires that, the folks that to be able
- 9:03to play, both ways able to get down and defend and also get up,
- 9:08you know, to score. So I can uh, I can truly see if
- 9:13she was still playing. Now that she would be one of
- 9:16those a goalpost to goalpost, soccer players.
- 9:21Yeah. So In the last 30 minutes, when
- 9:27I found out, Abby, was going to be on.
- 9:30I had to find a way to manipulate one of the main
- 9:33questions that I wanted to ask, but the subject matter, totally
- 9:37differently applies to both of you.
- 9:41We talked a lot about the business of our sport or lack
- 9:44thereof professionalism of our sport.
- 9:48Yeah, and lack. One thing that I've always been
- 9:52very impressed with and complimentary of, as it relates
- 9:54to Is he found a way to hold onto Christian as an athlete
- 10:01when the industry probably was against it and now a BB in the
- 10:07star coming out of this class, it's the same thing.
- 10:10So I want to know, you know, from both of your perspectives
- 10:14like how have you been able to successfully navigate staying
- 10:20where you should be with the people that you've been working
- 10:23with? When the Tree by and large
- 10:27doesn't want any part of that. Well, I think, first, I think,
- 10:33continuity has his place in this business, and if you look at the
- 10:38history of kids, who kind of just jump from coast to coast,
- 10:41there is not a lot of a great deal of longevity in that
- 10:44process. I'm of the mindset.
- 10:47This is about report, you know, the this is this relationship
- 10:51this Rapport between ab and I started when I was at Tennessee
- 10:55Like I said she was on a recruiting visit there at the
- 10:59opportunity to sit down with her and her parents.
- 11:01And I felt like there was a bond even in that conversation and,
- 11:06you know, it just made things twice as as good when I got to
- 11:11Kentucky and I had the opportunity to work with her.
- 11:15It all comes down to relationship reports.
- 11:17You know, her trusting me with, with her career, her trust in.
- 11:22You know, the process in terms of being able to get her in a
- 11:25Position where she could merge her brand with it with a shoe
- 11:29company brand. I think all those things that
- 11:32continuity there has his place in his business and those who
- 11:36don't believe in that or they allow shoe companies to dictate
- 11:40that I think does doesn't disservice so to speak.
- 11:47You know it. I think it it again.
- 11:50It all comes down to that relationship that you build do
- 11:52that through the College Years, the trial.
- 11:55Are you know and then them continuing to trust the process
- 12:00and believe in what we're putting together.
- 12:04Yeah. I'll piggyback off of that.
- 12:05I think that, you know, for every record that happened this
- 12:10year or great moment, there were a lot of moments that weren't so
- 12:14great. That coach always there for me
- 12:15for and help me feel. And I think when you just have a
- 12:18bond like that there's like no one else I would rather trust
- 12:22that I would trust, you know, to be on this journey.
- 12:25Any with and those moments not other.
- 12:27So yeah, I agree with glucose Paul.
- 12:31For sure. I think what I love the answers
- 12:35and I think kind of what cloud was alluding to.
- 12:38I think was less of an issue in my opinion Cloud.
- 12:41Because in Christians case, he was the best guy and Abby's
- 12:45case. She was the best woman.
- 12:47Like if she was let's say the fifth best collision coming out,
- 12:52right? Then the shoe companies feel as
- 12:55if they have more leverage to make demands, damn right?
- 12:59But when you're the best one, you like look, if you start with
- 13:03the, I gotta move thing. We can just be done with this
- 13:05meeting, right? And so, I think, I think a lot
- 13:08of it come comes with being the best one because you have the
- 13:11leverage and in, I mean, we talked about this a million
- 13:15times, right? If your company is always wanted
- 13:19to be their idea. I don't know what that's about.
- 13:22I really don't, but they're they're okay with playing
- 13:26Russian roulette with people's careers because I completely
- 13:28believe with coach Hall like, you know, they did a study, you
- 13:32know, way back into the, you know, old gate in the olden days
- 13:36when I was on the Olympic team and Olympic medalists had fewer
- 13:41than one point five coaches in their careers.
- 13:45As of 2000, right? So, we just tells you like, if
- 13:48you stay, put training is cumulative, trust the process
- 13:53like all those things, right? But somewhere along the line,
- 13:56the shoe companies have got it into like there's college
- 13:59coaches and procopius which literally makes no sense because
- 14:04I think while all standards we would all say Bobby Kersey is
- 14:07the best coach byways of resume, right?
- 14:10Well, he was coaching the UCLA for like 80% of the things he's
- 14:13done. So it don't make any sense that
- 14:16they came to this, but at the end of the day, like that's what
- 14:19we got. So I'll say this, I'm glad that
- 14:22both you and Christian got to stay right where you are because
- 14:27your first year out of college and I'm not trying to scare you,
- 14:29but your first year out of college, everybody will tell you
- 14:32this. It's the hardest one you ever
- 14:33have as a pro. It's four times harder if you
- 14:37add changing coaches to that, right?
- 14:39Yeah, that's a great. Well I'm I'm curious.
- 14:43I mean did The choice of shoe company factor into this and I
- 14:48mean, your, you can, you can answer the question and I answer
- 14:52the question, but, you know, these are things that, you know,
- 14:55I feel like a lot of young people young athletes.
- 14:59Up-and-comers need to truly understand about how you know,
- 15:04about how this business works or to, at least have some idea of
- 15:08what's coming, you know. So the question there is, you
- 15:12know, did your A choice of shoe company factor into, you know,
- 15:17or was there conversations where people were telling you, you
- 15:21have to do XY and z in order to get X Y & Z.
- 15:25Because that, that is a fact that is happening.
- 15:27Yeah, I will say, one of my main points that I entered, you know,
- 15:33these meetings and was I think we were very clear going into
- 15:37it. That switching coaches was not
- 15:39going to be an option. That is so awesome.
- 15:43Yeah. Ready watching this show real of
- 15:46it clip that and yes, yes. I think I had like no bullet
- 15:51points and I can't remember what the other one was.
- 15:54But I woke up at all this and it was like one of them was I'm
- 15:58saying with coach Hall and those were, you know, because you go
- 16:03into it negotiating and talking about things and that was one
- 16:06that I was very upfront on that wasn't going to budge so good
- 16:12for you. Love it.
- 16:15So Tim I have a question for you.
- 16:17So every Elites printer has that one thing that that that twang
- 16:25that style that something about what they do that's unique I
- 16:30mean we can go back to bolt in the way you know, the scoliosis
- 16:35and how that changed the way he ran and the difference in the
- 16:39leg length Donovan Bailey. I mean I mean, think about
- 16:42Michael Johnson in the way here. And so you know, I think, you
- 16:46know where I'm going with this. Well, how did you manage Abby's
- 16:50unique arm swing and that was there any point where you were
- 16:55thinking? I need to fix this?
- 16:57Or did you think I need to use this to her advantage?
- 17:04Well, I'm always up the mindset of meeting athletes where there
- 17:07are mentally and from a anthropometric standpoint, oh,
- 17:11say that again, for the people, he's pleased with that again,
- 17:14for the people in the back Church, Say Amen.
- 17:34Yes, again, understand our athletes that we encounter, try
- 17:39to cultivate the talent instead of trying to fix the talent.
- 17:43I think we all would be much better coaches, you know, the
- 17:48arm swing was, was everyone else's problem.
- 17:51You know, we, we put some things in place to help her get a
- 17:54little more Mobile in there and our arms swing.
- 17:56But that was not the premise of what we were trying to get
- 18:01accomplished throughout the year.
- 18:04As my grandfather, my mom, my dad used to tell me all the
- 18:08time, if it's not what a you say, if it ain't broke, don't
- 18:11fix it. So he continued to run extremely
- 18:17fast. You know, the arm swing was what
- 18:21it was. I was not going to interrupt our
- 18:24season are planar process trying to confuse her.
- 18:28Well I need you to hear this. Yes, just allow things to
- 18:32happen, you know. Continue to trust the process
- 18:35and continue to, you know, allow things to happen.
- 18:39You know, it was it was something that we talked in
- 18:43depth about but we weren't trying to put this elaborate
- 18:46plan together to change your arms swing.
- 18:49So, and it worked out perfect. I mean, just keep it going
- 18:52because if she runs fast enough, they're going to have coaches
- 18:54teaching kids running. Okay.
- 18:58Listen whee laughs whee laughs. See, this right here.
- 19:05Look at me. How many kids?
- 19:07Yes, start a hurry like this because there is very area.
- 19:11Yeah, yeah. But at this point, they don't
- 19:13even know why they're doing it. I promise you, I promise you and
- 19:25I'm not playing. Abby is the first person of any
- 19:29kind of note to move the way she does, you know, with her arms I
- 19:34went to jails this year. I saw four or five little kids.
- 19:39That's all it is. It's awful.
- 19:42No Abby. Listen, you got to leave that
- 19:51duplication but basically people copying you is the greatest
- 19:54compliment I ever had. So where did that come from?
- 20:01Do you is there is there something that led to You
- 20:04running that way or is that the only way you've known
- 20:20and the arms was phenomenal. Yeah I think it was a
- 20:25collaboration of like her just getting stronger lifting weights
- 20:29and you know, she just getting really strong in her upper body.
- 20:34And you know, the next thing I know is like, this lie wasn't,
- 20:40it wasn't planned, it was not by Design.
- 20:43I mean, look at our high school or High School, 100 meters or
- 20:47200 meters. I'm like man, we need those
- 20:49arms. My needs.
- 20:52I was like back kicking down the back stretch.
- 20:54So I'm like which would you I always thought originally,
- 21:15right? My original thought was, it was
- 21:17from, it was from soccer, was something related to soccer but
- 21:20I did the same thing that coach all did.
- 21:21I was like, wait a minute, I'll go back and watch High School.
- 21:25I was like, yeah, no it's not soccer right?
- 21:27Because he played soccer in high school did not look like that
- 21:31but at the end of the day, here's the thing.
- 21:32Listen, Abby. Weird kid with you but I
- 21:35understand this. No one would ever teach anybody
- 21:38to run like Michael Johnson except for when the clock stops.
- 21:41Exactly. So at the end of the day, just
- 21:43tell him, get like me, you run any way you want to write but
- 21:49until you beat me. All right, I reckon you better
- 21:53recognize these arms. So so another one that I think
- 21:59differently can relate to both of you.
- 22:03Abby, as I'm sure, you know, our sport for some reason, delivers,
- 22:08a lot of legendary athletes, out of Ohio.
- 22:12Oh, I wish my house was all right.
- 22:14Yeah, you missing it. Listen, here's this.
- 22:17And you already know. Hop on my right?
- 22:22Yes you already know I would probably get in trouble for not
- 22:25asking and ohio-based question in this instance, right?
- 22:28So you know, I assume that you're aware of that history but
- 22:33has have you been being the next Superstar coming out of Ohio?
- 22:39Have you given any thought to that?
- 22:40Have you does that mean anything to you?
- 22:43What does it mean to you and to her coach Hall?
- 22:47You know, do you find it? Recruiting kids out of the
- 22:50Midwest is a thing that because I know a lot of people miss
- 22:55those kids. Like do you feel like that those
- 22:57kids have a certain whatever they are.
- 23:00It makes them more inclined to be real at this, right?
- 23:03I think they're a, there are a number of diamonds in the
- 23:07proverbial diamond in the rough side of the state of Ohio.
- 23:09You know, that the climate there is not really conducive to like
- 23:14outdoor training until later in the season.
- 23:17You know, Kentucky is sorting that same kind of climate but
- 23:21you know, indoor facilities and what have you?
- 23:23But my point is like when those kids you know migrated to South
- 23:28or get in a program that has a little warmer weather and the
- 23:31training is conducive to cultivating and teaching and you
- 23:37know progressing student-athletes then.
- 23:40Yeah you can you can guess those diamonds off and and you have
- 23:45your next have you sign up. So to speak, you know.
- 23:47No, I am truly convinced that there is something in the water
- 23:51in the state of Ohio. Again, you look at the, you look
- 23:55at the history of kids that have come out of that they've all
- 23:58done extremely well in the right situation.
- 24:00So, So was so was Ohio State and option.
- 24:05Abby, my recruiting process was a little bit strange because
- 24:12soccer starts. So early.
- 24:16So I went on a visit to a higher state for soccer and this was
- 24:20like my freshman year, but Ohio state is also like 20 minutes
- 24:25from where I grew up. And I knew I wanted to Branch
- 24:28out a little bit more than that, but yeah.
- 24:31Was a little bit kind of tricky finding schools because I was
- 24:35going through my recruiting process for soccer when I was
- 24:38like halfway through my freshman year of high school and horse
- 24:41track and field is like doing your senior year.
- 24:44So it's really just finding you know the right fit that was
- 24:48going to meet all of my needs but I knew I wanted to go SEC
- 24:52and wanting to Branch out a little bit more from Ohio.
- 24:57Yeah. Okay.
- 24:59Now Kurt you distracted. Her from my question.
- 25:01I know. Yes.
- 25:05The answer your question. I have given a lot of thought on
- 25:09you know, ways that I can maybe give back to that Ohio community
- 25:14that track community and I don't know the best ways.
- 25:18Yeah. But I thought of maybe ways I
- 25:20could like host my own knee and do something for kids through
- 25:23that but the Ohio track Community was such a beautiful
- 25:28day. Growing up.
- 25:29I mean, I stayed in was always packed and you could just tell,
- 25:33like, people they're like loved going there and loved following
- 25:36chalk and I still have people watching these people, like,
- 25:39comment, that they're from Ohio and common eye at me and stuff
- 25:43like that. And so it really doesn't mean a
- 25:44lot to me. So, yeah, I was actually, you
- 25:48know, now that I have all my things to get out from a
- 25:51professional standpoint, out of college, have been thinking of
- 25:54which I can maybe get back to where I grew up, or how that At
- 25:58how that looks so high. Oh, but let's see.
- 26:03All right, I want to switch lanes in a some protract
- 26:06question. You are incredibly gifted and
- 26:11what we call rangy. So the question I have, I guess
- 26:17is for both of you. Are we still going to run all
- 26:23three? Mmm, run in the one and the two,
- 26:27and obviously, some whores in order to be the 4x4 monster that
- 26:32you are are we for lack of better terms going the Allison
- 26:37model where we like we run the to but we're fast enough to be
- 26:40on the floor by one and strong enough to be on the 4x4.
- 26:43Are we ever planning on a for to double?
- 26:47You know, inquiring minds want to know and they only want to
- 26:49know not because anybody Wants to pigeonhole you listen, our
- 26:53sport is so hard to be good at one thing that anybody and trust
- 26:58me. I know a little bit about this,
- 26:59anybody who's good at multiple things, like people want to
- 27:03know, like they're intrigued and inquiring minds want to know.
- 27:06So I would be completely remiss. If I didn't ask the question,
- 27:10everybody wants to know a is there?
- 27:13A plan to remove or ADD and be if?
- 27:17So what, you know, where do we need to go?
- 27:19See you run this that Third. Well, I'll start by asking that
- 27:23question. We're going to, we're going to
- 27:25continue to do the things that they got us in this position.
- 27:28You know, we're going to be relentless in our pursuit of a
- 27:35couple of things taking this knowledge.
- 27:38You know, things of that nature. That's going to sustain her
- 27:41throughout her career. She will run some 400.
- 27:47She's going to run some 60, she's gonna run, someone, she's
- 27:50gonna run. Some to, I mean, we're going to
- 27:51stick to the process that that put us in this position to have
- 27:56those inquiries about the range. That's that she's able to cover.
- 28:03So, that's that's kind of where I am with it.
- 28:05We have these conversations all the time about, you know,
- 28:09because sometimes the narrative can get overwhelming, you know,
- 28:13everybody want to see this. And then you lose sight of
- 28:15what's really important, and that's the process.
- 28:17The things that got us to this position.
- 28:20And I think when an athlete or coach loses that that Insight or
- 28:24that processed in, that's when the problems in Sioux, in my
- 28:28opinion. So we're going to stick to
- 28:29what's, what's what's work? And you know, what's gotten Us
- 28:33in this position to start? Do to to touch on that.
- 28:40So, between the indoor and outdoor season.
- 28:43Am I correct that you ran 56 races in 2022, 57?
- 28:49Okay. The Good, the Collegiate, who's
- 28:51counting. So here's my question.
- 28:56So there's an ebb and flow to the season ups and downs
- 29:02condition, you know, your physical condition goes up and
- 29:05down. You're basically is a coach.
- 29:08Tim, you're trying to make sure that the Downs don't occur when
- 29:13things really need to be up, right.
- 29:17I'm curious to know a be, like, throughout the season.
- 29:21Can you identify those times when it was just like, man,
- 29:26like, this is not happening. And how you manage that because
- 29:31you had a long time. You think about from when you
- 29:34started, Two, when your season ended, I mean, that's a lot of
- 29:38Hills and Valleys a lot of Hills and Valleys.
- 29:41So I'm curious to know like if you can identify those times
- 29:45where it was just like, man. This is a, this is a hike as
- 29:50opposed to the times when you were like, okay, it's time to
- 29:53roll. Yeah, I was say that I feel like
- 29:57as an athlete I am usually very good at staying present and
- 30:05like, It's super cliche, but like, literally taking it one
- 30:08day, one, race at a time, I mean, you have to be present in
- 30:12a season like that, otherwise, you're going to look ahead and
- 30:16it's going to be. So, daunting staring a whole
- 30:19indoor and outdoor season in the face.
- 30:21So short term memory as yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 30:24I think like physically, I have never really had a hard time
- 30:29because I've always tried to be super mindful when I'm at means
- 30:32or have practiced. I think the times that I old
- 30:36this year and me and Coach, I was kind talked about this was
- 30:39when things got overwhelming for me outside of China, feel about
- 30:44that - I think that and like for me, so that's handled in a
- 30:49different way. So for me that was, like,
- 30:51getting off like social media because to me, like, I am always
- 30:55ready to compete and I track and field is what I love to do.
- 30:58So I'm never like going to practice like, oh my gosh, I
- 31:01have to go to practice today. Like I'm excited to go to Prague
- 31:03so I'm excited to run. So I think For me, handling,
- 31:08those moments where I'm feeling like, I don't know if I'm, you
- 31:12know, ready to get out there or I'm nervous for this new year.
- 31:16What have you is just like, removing what I need to remove
- 31:20controlling a controllable is and to me that was like getting
- 31:23off of social media tuning into my people, talking to my parents
- 31:28stuff like that. I think that was what helped me
- 31:32most in a season like this, when there was so much going on.
- 31:36Was to kind of tap into those things that are good for my
- 31:39mental health and enter and that was when I ran the best, okay?
- 31:44Yeah, I want to, I'm late to the party and I apologize.
- 31:48So for this, the Ohio, you may question the solution.
- 32:06Do multiple things. Very, very, very happy.
- 32:10I wasn't subtle, though, it was meant to be educational, she
- 32:15wasn't born when I was good at track, so I had to help her a
- 32:19little bit and we shall move on. And I also want to say that, you
- 32:23know, great question, Governor, but I happen to have a front-row
- 32:27seat for the The Abbey Steiner show this year.
- 32:30Yeah, word, no, valleys. Okay, okay.
- 32:33Okay. There's a lot of angst in this I
- 33:00need to be a head coach deal, right?
- 33:02And if there's assistant coach out there that has a resume to
- 33:05be a hit. Coach, it's definitely Timothy
- 33:07Hall. You know, what would be your
- 33:10message to them that keeps you focused on doing the things that
- 33:14you do? Because I mean for those you
- 33:16don't know. Go do your homework.
- 33:18Abby's the latest greatest but she's not the first of all
- 33:22exactly, exactly right. Well I look at that, look at
- 33:26this business like this coach and it's a great question.
- 33:30You know, when you first get in this business, you're always
- 33:32striving to be the best. You you pray and you You ask God
- 33:36for certain opportunities. I've prayed several times to be
- 33:41in this moment where I am right now, under the leadership that I
- 33:44am currently under have any autonomy to work with athletes
- 33:48like like a bee and Christian and some of the others that I've
- 33:52had the opportunity to encounter what we forget sometimes as
- 33:56coaches is that we prayed for this, you know what I mean?
- 34:01And, you know, I look at it like I pray for this.
- 34:05On it and forgot I prayed for basic.
- 34:10So I have to sit back and some especially when the
- 34:13opportunities present themselves I have to really go into deep
- 34:17meditation about is this right for me?
- 34:19Or is it and my family or is this is this my moment is this?
- 34:24What is this? What I've been praying for all
- 34:26the time and it's right here in my face and I'm not appreciating
- 34:30it, I'm not grateful for it, I'm looking for the next thing.
- 34:34So I have to sit in Quiet to a great deal, just to just to
- 34:39reflect on this moment, you know, and who the athletes that
- 34:44I'm responsible for her leadership the direction that
- 34:48that God want me to continue to go.
- 34:52You know, because it's not about this blue t-shirt is not about
- 34:56coach Hall, it's about and I wholeheartedly believe this.
- 35:00It's about the light. The outcome of the LIE lives
- 35:04that I encounter Our paths crossed and me being able to
- 35:08make a difference, you know. So my advice to the assistants
- 35:14right now. One first, learn how to be a
- 35:17phenomenal assistant in the event that in the event that you
- 35:23know you get an opportunity to be a head coach new, you know,
- 35:26exactly what to look for and what not to look for when you
- 35:30start your hiring process. So I take great pride in DIN and
- 35:37all the head coaches that I've had the opportunity to work on
- 35:40under and be mentored by, but this is a moment that I pray for
- 35:46every since I started this full-time back at UNC Charlotte,
- 35:50I would we would come to Florida relays, and it was just this guy
- 35:54just running around just kicking everybody's ass And So It Begins
- 36:06You know, no, I say that to say this coach.
- 36:10And again, this is where I am in this moment in this space.
- 36:14Like, I prayed for it. You know, I have to be grateful
- 36:18in this moment so that I don't get too far ahead of what he has
- 36:24ordained. You know, a lot of us think it's
- 36:27about us about the how much money we made, you know, the
- 36:30color of the, you know, the sexy tee shirt that we wear.
- 36:33No. It's bigger than that.
- 36:35It's about Out the did you say the cinta teacher contrasted
- 36:43meaning sec? You know, I'm grateful for where
- 37:08I am grateful for all the paths that I've been able to impact
- 37:15the lives that I've been able to impact.
- 37:18I receive well, one of my former athlete series Woods was
- 37:22inducted into the Hall of Fame back at ya and she was just so
- 37:27grateful for the the mentorship that I provided for her and, you
- 37:32know, watching it, you know, I got so emotional because Cuz I
- 37:36knew her story, I knew, you know, how she, what state she
- 37:41was in which derive at Charlotte, and the opportunities
- 37:45that are Rapport was able to put her in a position where she
- 37:49could do the things that she's doing now, and she was so
- 37:52grateful. And I'm like, that's why I get
- 37:55up every morning, kiss my wife and go to work to do what I do,
- 38:00if that answer your question. Also, another shout-out Harry
- 38:03Wilson, you're smart smart enough.
- 38:05But your wife and they're smart man.
- 38:07She's good she's gonna watch his be, that's my baby right?
- 38:11All right so I know, I know we're running out of time to
- 38:15going to cut us off at some point, but what Abby said in her
- 38:19last response through me another question.
- 38:22This for both y'all, For what I would imagine multiple reasons
- 38:29Abby's season her as an athlete in general seems to be a very
- 38:34polarizing Topic in our industry.
- 38:38Yeah. Right.
- 38:39And she mentioned having to get off social media, Focus handle
- 38:43her business. But how do both, how did both of
- 38:47you, you know, deal with that reality in the moment.
- 38:51Because a lot of it didn't make sense us a lot of us who are
- 38:54your fans at a supporter like, she's phenomenal, you girls
- 38:58fast, why are we not just celebrating how awesome she is.
- 39:03So from an athlete and a coach is perspective like how did how
- 39:05do you guys deal with that reality?
- 39:09Well, I tried to continue to just keep her level headed.
- 39:14You know, she'd come to me, we discuss everything.
- 39:17You know, all the narratives that that are presented and I
- 39:21just try to keep a focus on what's important right now and
- 39:24what was important in that moment was the next opportunity.
- 39:29You know, if you get caught up And all the narratives and you
- 39:33trying to please, you know, this group versus this group, you
- 39:36lose sight of what's important this moment and the things that
- 39:40we have to get done as a as a unit.
- 39:45So it was, it was pretty simple for me.
- 39:48It's like, look, these are the goals.
- 39:50These are the things you told me, you wanted to get done and
- 39:54these these other peripheral things are just distraction and
- 39:58they're going to keep you from from accomplishing the goal.
- 40:00Oh, so, you know, getting off, social media was one Avenue in
- 40:04terms of keeping her focused on the task at hand.
- 40:09She understood that she she, you know, got how social media was
- 40:12able to kind of redirect our focus and you know, things just
- 40:16kept getting better for Yeah, I think like koshwal said,
- 40:22remaining focus on the goals. I hand there are not shortcuts
- 40:30in this Sport and you cannot cheat the work that goes into
- 40:33this forward. And I think when I'm getting on
- 40:36that line I'm running 200 meters, my clock starts at 0 and
- 40:40my goal is to be the first one to cross it and that's going to
- 40:46happen by me and coach Hall. All, you know, being on the same
- 40:50page, talking it out, doing what we need to do and just putting
- 40:54our head down and working. So I think, yeah, we talked
- 40:59things out. Got off social media and remain
- 41:01focused, and the rest kind of played out there.
- 41:06May I ask one more question Madam chew Madam big lie.
- 41:11So I want to ask this of a be like there hasn't been a lot of
- 41:16talk about the Youth of the relays.
- 41:20You one you know gold medals with this summer, right?
- 41:23You know, especially, you know, the 4x4 I think isn't Sid, the
- 41:28oldest personal data relay, which is kind of scarce which is
- 41:30nice. That's so great crazy, right?
- 41:34And then you Come to the 4 by 4 and you take the old lady print
- 41:39prandini off of there and he got three babies again and like.
- 41:42So how exciting is that for you when you think about the future
- 41:46of the relays in the USA and what you could be part of
- 41:50something very, very special. Yeah.
- 41:52It's so exciting to think about especially with how world's went
- 41:56this past summer, how much fun that was being a part of?
- 42:00I can't even imagine it getting better than that but you know,
- 42:03it will We're Young, and We're only going to continue to
- 42:07improve so I think that was really exciting.
- 42:11I know. Like with the ladies on the 4x4,
- 42:13someone brought that up in an interview and we all kind of
- 42:15looked around for a second and really cute telling us that the
- 42:17oldest person on this relay is 20 years old.
- 42:20Like that's crazy. So I think it gives us like I
- 42:24know speaking for myself and the other girls it's very energizing
- 42:29knowing that you're going to be running with a lot of familiar
- 42:32faces and be able to build that chemistry.
- 42:35And really kind of start chasing these world record goals that,
- 42:38you know, the four by four doesn't seem too far out of
- 42:41reach when you're looking at at the splits and the ages of what
- 42:44people did. So, yeah, I think it just
- 42:47hopefully can provide a lot of energy and hopefully, you know,
- 42:51you're going to see a lot of the same faces at these meats.
- 42:53And people start to get to know these teams and these
- 42:56individuals and get excited to watch.
- 42:59Coach all my corrected. That was my tummy.
- 43:01I am I correct. That was the fifth fastest time
- 43:07in history. Yes, I believe so.
- 43:12Right. And so there were three
- 43:16collegians on that relay. Mmm, that's right.
- 43:20So what happens when we when we show up in there, don't come off
- 43:23the Collegiate season, right? Yeah, I'm real.
- 43:29We're going to be able to see that relay grow the 4x1 grow and
- 43:34like alluded to before It ain't broke, don't fix it.
- 43:38Please say that again. You know what I mean?
- 43:42And again going back to that a t-shirt.
- 43:45Think I think that's the name of this of this show to one.
- 43:50If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Thinking back to when he said,
- 43:58you know, I don't have an excuse because the ladies took care of
- 44:02business. So kudos to you all for show.
- 44:05wings at like sometimes it's Personnel, sometimes it's not
- 44:10Personnel, but as long as all four pieces are working for the
- 44:13same goal, Sometimes you just got to go left.
- 44:16Right? Left right, turn left.
- 44:17And go really fast. Yeah, that works for it works
- 44:22really well as a success coach, all he knows very well.
- 44:36I have had the opportunity to watch coach all grow in the
- 44:39sport, you know, for when you use it, you know by Charlotte.
- 44:41Don't let him fool you. Yeah, I was running around crazy
- 44:44but he Doing his thing to write, and no matter where he's gone,
- 44:50he's elevated the situation there.
- 44:53And I remember having a conversation with him a few
- 44:57years ago, your first into Kentucky, and you just kind of
- 45:00an adverse situation and someone had been injured and you were
- 45:03frustrated and we sat down and I was like, look, you know, we are
- 45:07both prayerful men. You you got no.
- 45:10We gotta we gotta pray about this and you figured it out.
- 45:12So clearly you prayed and you're listening my and so, you know,
- 45:17you know, I'll let you take a picture beside my number.
- 45:45That's actually be able to have actual conversation.
- 45:48Not just walked by a highs and buys at Nationals and whatnot
- 45:50with you. It only just shows the the
- 45:55specialness of your soul and your heart.
- 45:58So I want to be very clear and telling you that and continue
- 46:02doing that and being a great person for all of us to strive
- 46:06to be as, as an assistant coach. So thank you for being.
- 46:10You just add your phone, and thank you for being for being
- 46:14you. You honestly, it is clear to me,
- 46:28is a world-class coach. A B-side is a world-class
- 46:31athlete, but they are those things because they're
- 46:34world-class people off the track and that's why they are who they
- 46:38are. So if we're going to learn a
- 46:39lesson from this historic season, You know, learn the
- 46:44lesson of their humility. The fact that like like they
- 46:47said, we just showed up every day and started all over again.
- 46:51Yeah. And that's why this happened.
- 46:53Yeah. So I'm getting close.
- 46:54You guys are to be quiet. Then it was a fourth.
- 46:57I'm not gonna be quiet. Be quiet, listen II.
- 47:05I've lived a very, very blessed life and one of those blessings
- 47:10was I got to spend a season working with that.
- 47:12That guy. And I I will tell you, I learned
- 47:18so much from Tim Hall. I learned so much about myself
- 47:23because of Tim Hall. And you know, there are people
- 47:30that God puts in your life that make you want to be better, not
- 47:34just as coaches, but as people and, you know, listen if your,
- 47:42if your goal in life is to be, you know, equal to the man that
- 47:46Tim Hall is you got work to do? Absolutely, you know, I listen,
- 47:51I've been around that man with his with his kids.
- 47:54I've been around that man with his wife.
- 47:55Been around that man on a daily. Aces with athletes.
- 47:58And I'm telling you it is very rare that somebody ascends the
- 48:03success ladder and does not change as a human.
- 48:07It is very rare and that guy is the same guy that I met.
- 48:13When I came on my visit to try to be employed at Clemson.
- 48:19And, you know, listen and he knows how I feel about us.
- 48:24I'm like, I'll go on and on but I'll say this Abby.
- 48:26He's Lucky to have you as a coach.
- 48:29I mean, like meeting as a coach to have you as an athlete, but
- 48:32you are equally lucky to have that guy that guy in charge of
- 48:35your career because he is never going to make a decision.
- 48:40That's not what's best for you. And that right there as an
- 48:45athlete, you can't have better than that.
- 48:49You can't have that of than that.
- 48:51So let me, let me get this in while we're doing this.
- 48:55You know, I agree with everything everybody else has
- 48:59said about coach Hall. And I just want to say, you know
- 49:05I've been a fan of the work that you do for a while or long and
- 49:13to the EPS Point, none of your success seems to have changed
- 49:18you. And you know on the flip side
- 49:24watching Abby's career change and evolve on the Collegiate
- 49:29scene like some people in the sport both coach and athlete,
- 49:33make it really difficult to root for their success.
- 49:36I'll make it I'll make it real easy and so you know, just keep
- 49:40doing what y'all do. I'm certain it's going to be
- 49:44nothing but success, moving forward because that's what
- 49:46y'all do. And, you know, for me, yeah.
- 49:50Y'all have y'all made it very, very easy to be huge fans of
- 49:53both of these. So I appreciate that as a fan.
- 49:56And I think the governor can happen with this one as well.
- 50:00Wasn't it? Bigoted said nothing's changed
- 50:02but the number on the Range and wasn't look at them to the floor
- 50:08before you send it off. I mean, my time at Florida State
- 50:14in the wings and the ACC your time at Clemson, I noticed
- 50:21really, really early on that there was a there was something
- 50:26About you that I was drawn to you in terms of your energy in
- 50:31terms of your calmness in terms of how you dealt with your
- 50:34athletes. And I took a lot from you and
- 50:40you may not know this during that time, but you know,
- 50:44whenever we were at a conference or whatever, you know, there was
- 50:47always that moment at some point during the meet.
- 50:51I would come over to the camp. We chop it up a little bit and
- 50:54then we go about our business, all right?
- 50:56But I want to tell you that I do appreciate you for everything
- 51:01and you are someone in this profession that I look to to
- 51:06emulate look to in terms of your style.
- 51:11So trust me you you are you you're being watching.
- 51:15You're being appreciated. Well, said it all the kind
- 51:20words, gentlemen, as I say all the time, I'm just the vessel in
- 51:26my prayer time. I just, you know, show me, show
- 51:30me the way, you know, and then I have to get out of My Flesh,
- 51:34sometimes should not be so stubborn, not to listen, mmm,
- 51:39that's when the problems into. So, I'm remember, as I told you
- 51:44many a time, if you want to make God laugh, Laughs, tell me what
- 51:47your plans are, right, I try to just sitting quietude and listen
- 51:53and try to continue to do is we let's all try to impact lives
- 51:58and, you know, you sometimes you get lucky enough to have a light
- 52:02like a bee and and some of the others, and you just have to
- 52:06make certain that you're doing right by them.
- 52:07So that's what I try to do. But I appreciate all the time
- 52:11words, I appreciate the opportunity to be on the LLC
- 52:16bojayá. It was it was interesting to
- 52:19hear how the concept evolved but made a lot of sense, but you
- 52:26guys are doing great for the sport.
- 52:27I think, you know, is the dialogue.
- 52:31You know, having an open Agenda in terms of what you discussed
- 52:35is great for the sport. So anytime you guys want me to
- 52:39come back and And chat with you. I'll be more than happy to be
- 52:42safe. I don't even know if you would
- 52:44want if you bring my homegirl to you.
- 53:10But it's been fun. You're welcome.
- 53:12Anytime. If you wait, you want to throw
- 53:14something out there. We will gladly, have you on the
- 53:17child to let you speak your voices?
- 53:19So thank you all so much. It was great chatting with all
- 53:23of you and me and you guys face to face and all that good stuff.
- 53:27So I really appreciate the opportunity and the thoughtful
- 53:30questions and doing your research about soccer and
- 53:33everything's fun to talk about another great good good.
- 53:38It was meant to be fun. Not noticed one quick party
- 53:41question. Who's your favorite soccer
- 53:42player? That's a good one.
- 53:46I gotta go Mia Hamm. She was legendary growing up.
- 53:50Legendary growing up when I was playing good answer, good
- 53:54answer. Well, you to get some rest
- 53:58tonight. Have a great rest of the week
- 54:00and we'll talk to you soon. Okay?
- 54:02Thank you so much. Bye we good.
- 54:09Awesome. Now that the Love Fest is over
- 54:13sheesh that was Scott was gushy and know.
- 54:17How could that not have been that way for all of it was
- 54:21heartfelt. I, I'm making fun of us but you
- 54:24know, we no one can ever watch. One episode of this show is say
- 54:28that we're not genuine. Listen, if I would have had a
- 54:33reason to get something Petty in there.
- 54:34I would have either one of the truest statement that are spoken
- 54:43by man, like, if I could have got pity, I would have, but I've
- 54:49had it happen. So lucious, by the way, Clyde
- 54:52was very complimentary of you. There's none in the show.
- 54:58Thank you Claude and of Ohio. Oh yes.
- 55:01Absolutely. Because he he's got Ohio Roots,
- 55:03he knows he knows how this role I do.
- 55:06I have a high Roots have Ohio ties.
- 55:08That's right. I would like to highlight
- 55:13because this wasn't recorded how when Abby mentioned to the
- 55:18program that she was going to be on tonight.
- 55:21The other Pros were like oh, you know, that show.
- 55:24Yeah, that's pretty cool. I didn't think that that was a
- 55:27thing. So, I mean, it helps when Lamar
- 55:29throw things out left and right and Center for them to be, like,
- 55:32hating on him on, but fugazi anyhow.
- 55:43So falling into line, we do have some questions and topics to
- 55:48address per the norm, regular not normal.
- 55:51I should say normal that we are. Far from normal.
- 55:54Regular occupancies of these tiles.
- 55:57We have two questions from the audience that were brought up to
- 56:00us and I want to throw them in the air and let's see.
- 56:03Jibber-jabber them out. So here we go.
- 56:08Pardon me of these are not my words, so if I I stutter
- 56:11anyways, but if I started even harder and be gracious, male
- 56:16head coaches are often pushed persuaded and directed to
- 56:20ensure. They hire female coaches.
- 56:22Why are female head It is not held to be same directed.
- 56:27Mmm-hmm this one made me think and I don't know that I have an
- 56:33answer and I think, okay so oh I think I want to go first, this
- 56:48is what I'm clearly. The female coaching population
- 56:54is in the minority. And so, that is going to be,
- 56:59your biggest reason why the female coaches are not given a
- 57:03directive to hire males, because there's so many males that have
- 57:05jumped on me. And so, they're going to be
- 57:08giving the same directive of you go.
- 57:09Find females who are capable before you go find a male.
- 57:15That's that would be my take on it.
- 57:17I think, to be fair, this should probably be some balance here,
- 57:21but I don't know how you create that balance.
- 57:23When there's such an imbalance already, the number of male
- 57:26coaches versus female coaches, whether it be head or
- 57:29assistance. So okay, I did okay with that.
- 57:37Very well with that. So you did very well with that.
- 57:42If I understand the spirit of the question, I'll go in this
- 57:46direction. It cannot be understated and I
- 57:51will restate it because we should just set it.
- 57:55The female coaching population is a huge minority in this
- 57:59business. Like the numbers are totally out
- 58:02of whack. And because they are, I feel
- 58:09like a lot of Administrators or a lot of head coaches who are
- 58:14men. Feel like checking the box is
- 58:19good enough. And therefore if there's a woman
- 58:24as a head of a program that box is already been checked, so no
- 58:29one therefore is going to push in that direction.
- 58:34I don't know if that's right or wrong but I'll say this we can't
- 58:38let the tokenism of having a woman on staff.
- 58:42Be the starting and ending point to act like we're all doing
- 58:45better in that space. Think about it.
- 58:48If a female head coach had all-female staff, that would be
- 58:55a controversy, it shouldn't be but it would be, I'm a head
- 58:59coach if I hired all women underneath that would be a
- 59:04controversy it shouldn't be if I find Qualified people who so
- 59:10happen to be women at every position.
- 59:12I need rock with it, I'd love to do it right.
- 59:16But it India's it be a story man.
- 59:19May I ask what the controversy would be.
- 59:22I understand it would be a human, you know, it will be okay
- 59:27asking because, okay, I agree that would be a story and a good
- 59:31one. Yeah, I don't know what the
- 59:33controversy with it would be one of those it would be, I'm not.
- 59:37And I'm not talking about like front page of a newspaper
- 59:40controversy. I'm talking about the sideline
- 59:44hustle comments. I'm talking about the group
- 59:46text. Comments, I'm talking about the,
- 59:49you know, the conversations that we all are aware of and here of
- 59:53and live around, if the coach did that, you know, there be
- 59:58narratives out there like stupid narratives instantly like, oh,
- 1:00:01that's never going to work. Oh, the women are probably
- 1:00:03conspire against them. Oh, there's too much emotions on
- 1:00:06that staff. Like all kind of stupid things
- 1:00:09would be thrown into The Ether if any of that came to be.
- 1:00:13And so I'm not going to sit here and pretend I like it.
- 1:00:18Like administrator should be pushing for anything to the
- 1:00:22honestly. I that's just not my worldview,
- 1:00:24right? I think the best people should
- 1:00:25get hired but I think it's a really interesting question and
- 1:00:29I think that it's a thing that a lot of people don't really pay
- 1:00:32much attention to but we all need to do better.
- 1:00:36You know, minority hires in our business, you can look at it and
- 1:00:41say we do the best in our profession of Collegiate sport
- 1:00:45which we probably do. And you can also say we're not
- 1:00:48doing nearly enough, which were absolutely not.
- 1:00:51So I think it's a great question and I know we all can do better
- 1:00:56in that space. Um, that that question me when
- 1:01:02I, when I first saw it, I mean, a plethora of things went
- 1:01:08through my head in terms of, you know, from you could, you could
- 1:01:13approach this with snark is, you know, where are we going with
- 1:01:19this question? Like, you know, like really like
- 1:01:23you going to ask this question, why are we?
- 1:01:25But, uh, Ultimately, I think sir lucious answered the question
- 1:01:33and, and the bottom line is this, as long as women Remain
- 1:01:40the minority in or profession and not just a little minority.
- 1:01:45But a significant minority, there is going to continue
- 1:01:52athletic directors administrators are going to
- 1:01:55continue to Advocate for a woman.
- 1:02:00There is a need for diversity in our sport.
- 1:02:03Let's, let's call it what it is. There's a need for this, you
- 1:02:08know, I mean, and I feel like, you know, let's just take the
- 1:02:14second part of the, the question out of it.
- 1:02:19The woman that are capable of doing this job, the woman, that
- 1:02:24understand the stressors that come along with doing this job
- 1:02:29and understand how to motivate and how to cultivate and how to
- 1:02:34grow athletes of, they deserve to be in this profession and
- 1:02:42they deserve to get a chance. There is no question about that,
- 1:02:47okay? So, You know, and I'll leave it
- 1:02:52there. I'm just going to leave it there
- 1:02:54because, you know, we've already thrown the t word out there
- 1:02:58tokenism and all of that. The bottom line is this This job
- 1:03:05requires a very certain specific set of skills.
- 1:03:10And if you're equipped to do the job, then do you should be given
- 1:03:14that chance none of which have to do anything with gender.
- 1:03:18Absolutely. That's that's 100%.
- 1:03:21Yeah. So I'll just leave it at that.
- 1:03:26Poof. Yeah, so much to unpack here and
- 1:03:35I mean, listen, y'all know who I am, right?
- 1:03:37Like these are the kind of topics I think.
- 1:03:40Personally like in person every one of you has been with me when
- 1:03:43this kind of conversation has come up and y'all just popped
- 1:03:46popcorn and wait for my answer because you already know like
- 1:03:48somebody who said get it like so but I'm so I won't disappoint
- 1:03:54but I will just say this There is no question there need to be
- 1:03:59more females in every level of coaching in track and field.
- 1:04:06There's no question that there need to be more minorities.
- 1:04:09Spread out over a greater scope of event areas in track and
- 1:04:14field, but, but I want to say this, I got you guys have
- 1:04:20addressed, like, why the man are not given.
- 1:04:23I mean, female coaches, who were given the jobs who have earned
- 1:04:26the jobs. Let me say a prayer.
- 1:04:28We are not given that mandate, but I feel like all coaches
- 1:04:33should be given this mandate if you hire an assistant male or
- 1:04:38female, but I'm only going to address the females right now.
- 1:04:42If you hire a female assistant, it is your job to make them
- 1:04:47better as coaches than they were when you got them because the
- 1:04:53opportunities are always going to abound for them to move
- 1:04:57forward. Third and a who don't want to be
- 1:05:00in the way and be, you don't want to be one of the reasons
- 1:05:04they get promoted and they aren't ready because you have
- 1:05:09not fostered them and their skills when they were in your,
- 1:05:15you know, they were your, your assistance, you know, don't hire
- 1:05:19a female because she's a female but then not coach them up.
- 1:05:24Like, that's insane. Yeah.
- 1:05:26And that happened so many times. Times, right?
- 1:05:29And then, unfortunately, they have been a number of females
- 1:05:32who have then been promoted and they've been LED, like Lambs to
- 1:05:36the slaughter because they have jobs that they weren't prepared
- 1:05:40for and and I feel like the biggest disservice we do.
- 1:05:45So often with our young assistants, so I'm not even
- 1:05:47going to just pick on the gender part but for sure in this
- 1:05:51conversation is pertinent to the female assistants.
- 1:05:55If you have, if you have assistant coaches to, please
- 1:05:57teach, Them. Please make them better please
- 1:06:02because you are doing nobody a service by not advancing them
- 1:06:09and praying that they grow beyond the job that you have for
- 1:06:12them. It's your responsibility.
- 1:06:15It's your responsibility. Yes, it is.
- 1:06:24This is a quandary in my head all the time, so I don't know.
- 1:06:27You know, I like all the things that have been noted, you know,
- 1:06:32sitting in the seat where I do wonder and I don't know that
- 1:06:37this is common knowledge. Maybe it's assumed knowledge
- 1:06:41that like when we as females get hired a, my token higher or am I
- 1:06:47getting fired off Merit, you know, and the accolades or
- 1:06:51quote, unquote accolades So, it's hard, too.
- 1:06:57To have students of different you have to actually go there in
- 1:07:01your mind. Yeah.
- 1:07:02Problem it is a problem within itself.
- 1:07:07It's a huge problem but you know what?
- 1:07:09But you know what you and I had a female, a young female in this
- 1:07:14business. Ask me that exact question one
- 1:07:17time, but are they hiring me? Just because hmm, my response to
- 1:07:22her was the shit doesn't matter. Why?
- 1:07:25Just go kill it. Doesn't matter, you got in the
- 1:07:29door. So just go prove who you are.
- 1:07:32Exactly. Exactly.
- 1:07:34Because you've been given the opportunity and that and that's
- 1:07:37what, you know, it's not necessarily the answer or even
- 1:07:41dialogue that goes along with the question is at this point as
- 1:07:45a female who sits in that seat. Yeah.
- 1:07:49Put it this way and I'm going to say it.
- 1:07:50So it's like in the most simplest way, if you're dumb
- 1:07:53enough to hire me to give me the chance to outshine, I'm going to
- 1:07:56do it. Hmm.
- 1:07:57That's one, that's what it is. And it's not about like, oh,
- 1:08:00stupid on you. It's, hey, you, let me come
- 1:08:03through the door, so watch out. Yeah.
- 1:08:06And just get out the way, you know, and don't stop.
- 1:08:08And I think, you know, when you take away the, the description
- 1:08:12description descriptors of male and female or the the non
- 1:08:18genders, but so apologies, my bad.
- 1:08:20I'm sorry. The descriptors that should be
- 1:08:26the bottom line. Giving the opportunities not
- 1:08:28because you're gifting but because they, they have put
- 1:08:32themselves in the position to receive the opportunity.
- 1:08:37So, I mean, as females and obviously, I'm not a head coach
- 1:08:40yet and I haven't stopped Mesquite to be, like, even
- 1:08:45interviewed as such. But I would hope I would be
- 1:08:47given the director of, as give the people, the opportunity who
- 1:08:50need it, who deserve it, who of work for it, and you are ready
- 1:08:54for it, my counter, to the comments that were Were made
- 1:08:57about coaching up preparing the female coaches and whatever,
- 1:09:02then why? Doesn't that happen continuously
- 1:09:08with the men? Why are the men not guided as
- 1:09:16thoroughly as steadfastly? Is that a word?
- 1:09:20Everyone else steadfast as the females because we so, okay, I'm
- 1:09:25going to change that real quick. We do see many or some head
- 1:09:30coaches. Who happened to be male?
- 1:09:31That aren't ready for the position and fail.
- 1:09:34Oh yeah. But so, why is it that, like,
- 1:09:38you know, we talked about doing the The buddy system.
- 1:09:45Sure. Yeah.
- 1:09:47So Why do we see so much failure still?
- 1:09:51I mean, I think you see failure across the board, you know, I
- 1:09:54mean, and it's not any kind of official policy of mine, right?
- 1:09:58But there are people in this business who I have a buddy
- 1:10:02system relationship with right. I try to help them along their
- 1:10:06path. Some are men, some are women,
- 1:10:08some are black, some are white to me.
- 1:10:11None of that matters. It's can you coach?
- 1:10:13Can you do the job, right? But I'm not I'd be lying if I
- 1:10:19Ended like sitting in a head coach seat as a black male
- 1:10:25doesn't mean more to me than it than it would otherwise.
- 1:10:28Right? It does because if I screw this
- 1:10:31up, if I prove myself not to be ready for the job then that's
- 1:10:35going to make it that much harder for the next person who
- 1:10:39looks like me at my age to not get that opportunity, right?
- 1:10:43So for me anybody who's come under me as an assistant.
- 1:10:49Can't I do the best, I can to prepare them for the next thing,
- 1:10:53whatever that is because they're represent me once they leave,
- 1:10:56right? You know, being the Elder
- 1:11:01statement statement on this panel.
- 1:11:04Let me let me say this because I've dealt with this morning,
- 1:11:06anything else. The biggest issue we have with
- 1:11:09track and field in the guidance of young coaches is that
- 1:11:16everybody wants to come in and reinvent the wheel, right?
- 1:11:20Like it doesn't happen in football and basketball because
- 1:11:22it can't write because they're part of a structure, of part of
- 1:11:26a system and they're forced to run the system.
- 1:11:29Now when they Branch off, they might add to the system a little
- 1:11:33bit, but in track and field too many times is that these new
- 1:11:37assistants walk in and they think they've got it all figured
- 1:11:40out. So instead of diving in and
- 1:11:43listening to the head, coaches are calling mentors.
- 1:11:45Learn from the mentors, they're too busy trying to prove that
- 1:11:48they figured out track and track and field was figured out
- 1:11:52hundreds of years. I think the word that I would
- 1:11:57like to paint a broad stroke width on this.
- 1:11:59Ego. Oh absolutely.
- 1:12:03Yeah, I think that's the biggest thing and I come to that because
- 1:12:07just having a few mentoring conversations myself, recently,
- 1:12:11as you need to put your ego aside and follow suit, you don't
- 1:12:15have to agree. But you have to understand why?
- 1:12:17Or why not. You won't Implement such things
- 1:12:20going forward. So okay, sorry.
- 1:12:24Are we okay to move on? Sorry, I don't want to jump ship
- 1:12:27before we're ready. Hi question.
- 1:12:29Number two. I'm waiting for the eyebrows to
- 1:12:33pop up on this. Is there really a need for
- 1:12:36indoors at the pro level? And if there wasn't an indoor,
- 1:12:41what would help if there wasn't indoor?
- 1:12:45Would that help? Some athletes better prepare for
- 1:12:47the outdoor season especially if we're looking at having major
- 1:12:51championships every year. I don't like the second part
- 1:12:56question. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:13:03Go ahead. You know, listen sir lucious
- 1:13:08said, said this one time on the show, the best coaches are
- 1:13:12always going to figure out how to get it done.
- 1:13:14What once you tell them, what has to be done, right?
- 1:13:18So at the end of the day, if we removed indoors, Like it's not
- 1:13:23going to all of a sudden change the levels of some coach like
- 1:13:26indoors was really my Bugaboo but now I got it locked in like
- 1:13:30that's not a thing, right? So at the end of the day, like
- 1:13:33look, is there a need for indoors?
- 1:13:35No, there was never a need for endorse, right?
- 1:13:38It was it was the sport came about as a breakup of the
- 1:13:42monotony of training, right? So at the end of the day like
- 1:13:46sure there was never a need for it but is here and there's no
- 1:13:49reason to get rid of it. Like, I like because what I like
- 1:13:54the most about indoors is this, it gives you an opportunity to
- 1:13:58see people do like Femme cable run the 400 endorse.
- 1:14:02Okay, so there's that. But it also is a like it's a
- 1:14:06choice. Like literally you do not have
- 1:14:10to choose, do it. Do do indoors that you will not
- 1:14:12be penalized for it. So at the end of the day, like I
- 1:14:16look, I like choices, I think, you know, he or she who dies, at
- 1:14:20the most choices wins. Like so, so having choice I
- 1:14:23think is awesome. It gets an opportunity to show
- 1:14:27track and field on more televisions more often so yeah,
- 1:14:32keep it. But but like, is it necessary?
- 1:14:36Hell no, no, I'll be very short here in indoor is not needed by
- 1:14:44the definition of the word, but endure is awesome.
- 1:14:47And why would it go away? Yeah.
- 1:14:50Again You tell you literally could choose not to do it and
- 1:14:55everything's fine. But listen, indoor track is
- 1:14:59dope. It's, it's way more intimate.
- 1:15:04It's way louder. And because of the nature of the
- 1:15:08how things have to be because of the way, the structure of it is,
- 1:15:12you could almost argue it's differently just as exciting,
- 1:15:17right? Like indoor is, and the weather
- 1:15:19is always great. So, I don't get it.
- 1:15:23I don't want to get rid of indoor at All.
- 1:15:26Pro indoor circuit is awesome. If you haven't been, you should
- 1:15:31go, you'll understand, it's great.
- 1:15:35So if you don't want to do it, don't do it.
- 1:15:37If you want to use it as a training tool, used as training
- 1:15:39tool, but no reason to get it. I agree with everything that was
- 1:15:46said, you know, I feel like indoors is its own acquired
- 1:15:54taste. And for those there those people
- 1:15:59and I would say it's probably even more of a geographical
- 1:16:02thing mean indoors for professionals.
- 1:16:09When you look at what they do over in Europe, compared to what
- 1:16:13they do over on this, in the Western Hemisphere, it's night
- 1:16:16and day. If you've ever experienced a
- 1:16:22professional indoor meet over in Europe, it will blow your mind.
- 1:16:27I mean, from light show, laser show, I mean, it is, it is
- 1:16:32awesome. It is absolutely a show.
- 1:16:36You you're in, you, you are a captive audience when you're in
- 1:16:40an indoor meet. And they can do so many things
- 1:16:44in that Arena. I mean it's fun and yeah, so if
- 1:16:50anything I would say the word operative word is, it's fun.
- 1:16:54Okay. I would not compare the indoor
- 1:16:58season to outdoor season there's no comparison whatsoever.
- 1:17:02The indoor season is is and there and there are athletes
- 1:17:07that absolutely gear up for indoor season and that is their
- 1:17:11prerogative, okay. But in terms of what the general
- 1:17:16world and the world in general looks forward to its Outdoors.
- 1:17:22So if it really comes down to what your preference is, I don't
- 1:17:27think it should be. I don't think you should get rid
- 1:17:28of it. I don't think you should touch.
- 1:17:30It indoors is its own world. And it, leave it alone.
- 1:17:35Yeah, I mean, very well said, bye-bye, everybody.
- 1:17:38I think the biggest thing for me is like, it's a part of the
- 1:17:41culture. So, part of what we've been
- 1:17:43doing forever, and if you take it away now it's just going to
- 1:17:48kind of change like the feel of track and field.
- 1:17:51No, but I think the biggest thing here is like you guys said
- 1:17:56that there's people that do indoors and do indoors well and
- 1:18:00come out doors and Outdoors. Well, there's also people that
- 1:18:03you never see in doors and they come about And they do well.
- 1:18:06So it's just like, it's a preference, it's a choice.
- 1:18:09And I agree with Clyde. I mean, never never had that
- 1:18:14whether indoors give me. Give me indoors at the Winter
- 1:18:19Olympics. That's what I want.
- 1:18:21I want indoor track that a couple times recently.
- 1:18:25Mmm, you've never been to endure World Championship.
- 1:18:32You should probably do that. Yep, yes, Like that's one of the
- 1:18:35more fun track and field meets you'll ever go to.
- 1:18:39And the one thing I will say that is advantageous to indoors,
- 1:18:43right? And it's okay this is a homer
- 1:18:45statement but also true. The field events are Way more
- 1:18:52Center Stage indoors than they are Outdoors.
- 1:18:55Because everything she can get away from closer and you can't
- 1:18:58get away from attended, right? But but but like, you know, look
- 1:19:02if you're a fan of the field events, you should probably like
- 1:19:07head to an indoor world championship and knock both of
- 1:19:09those two pieces out, right, you get to see some really, really
- 1:19:12high end worlds. World-class indoor track and
- 1:19:14field and you get to see like kind of a field of into Palooza
- 1:19:23Well I know, right? I try that will be submitted to
- 1:19:31Wikipedia, don't worry. Yes.
- 1:19:34So well I entertainment from the audience, thank you very much
- 1:19:38for those who continue to give us questions and who will give
- 1:19:41us questions in the future. Don't shy away from that because
- 1:19:45it's not only you who thinks of these things.
- 1:19:47I'm sure there's other people who thought these things do.
- 1:19:49So please. Can you at those we are going to
- 1:19:53switch gears completely and play a nice round of.
- 1:19:57Would you rather nice as an operative word, obviously?
- 1:19:59At this point. But it is well, I'm not it's not
- 1:20:04my turn. Yeah, I know.
- 1:20:05So that's going to be nice. Oh, jeez.
- 1:20:20Yeah, I am. Okay, this one it's not
- 1:20:26pertinent but pretty or not. Anyways, would you have rather
- 1:20:29caught number 62 or been good with just seeing number 62.
- 1:20:36Wait. Repeat what?
- 1:20:37I have rather caught it or what? Or just seen it.
- 1:20:40Yeah. So you know it's funny million 2
- 1:20:44million or not? Yeah so like I mean it was a it
- 1:20:47was a whole quandary thought process on my head.
- 1:20:51Like as we were walking to our seats because I knew there was
- 1:20:54no way I could catch the ball, I was sitting behind home plate,
- 1:20:58right? So it's not possible, but it led
- 1:21:01me to ask myself. This quandary question, right?
- 1:21:03Like, if I was in left field and the ball got hit to me and I
- 1:21:07caught it, like, what would I do with it?
- 1:21:10It's so like, my first thought is like, Look, I wouldn't want
- 1:21:12to give it back to Aaron, judge. That's my first thought and then
- 1:21:16I'm like, I have kids, right? And like two million dollars.
- 1:21:24It's like it would be irresponsible of me to give it
- 1:21:29away. Yeah.
- 1:21:31Right is. It's okay.
- 1:21:32Like, it's weird to think it like that, because, like I said,
- 1:21:35I love the Yankees Isle of arran Judge.
- 1:21:38He's my youngest son's favorite player, right?
- 1:21:41Just to chance to meet him would be worth two million dollars to
- 1:21:44the Cool guy but two million dollars to pay for everybody's
- 1:21:48fool. Yeah I mean right so you can
- 1:21:51split the difference in cell. Yeah.
- 1:21:53So at the end of the day are you can't tell me that's that you
- 1:21:56gotta sell it to the to the people who want to buy it and
- 1:21:59let them deal with it. So I guess unfortunately, I mean
- 1:22:02I actually hate myself for this answer but it's honest I would
- 1:22:05rather have caught it. Wow.
- 1:22:09I mean it was awesome to see it but I mean it's the end of day.
- 1:22:11Listen. That's like asking me.
- 1:22:12Would you rather find two million dollars or not?
- 1:22:15All right. Well, I questions coming.
- 1:22:18Would you rather get rich by luck or by hard work?
- 1:22:22I would rather get Richard not really concerned with how and,
- 1:22:26and only, because an option, Here's the thing, I am hardwired
- 1:22:35to work hard, so it won't matter how I do it.
- 1:22:38So I guess I'd rather, I'd rather get rich by luck because
- 1:22:42it wouldn't change my work ethic.
- 1:22:44Got it like at all. Okay.
- 1:22:48Keep that work ethic at hand. Would you rather eat a cookie a
- 1:22:50day or a cupcake, a day? Cookie.
- 1:22:56I'm not even really a big cupcake guy, so a cookie leading
- 1:23:02into this delicious. I hope you're picking up, what
- 1:23:05I'm putting down right now. Would you wear pants that don't
- 1:23:07fit? Would you rather wear pants that
- 1:23:09don't fit or shoes that don't fit because shoes that don't fit
- 1:23:16is painful? I mean, they both could be
- 1:23:20painful. Yeah.
- 1:23:21Good luck with shoes. What shoes that don't fit our
- 1:23:24painful. You have no choice that is going
- 1:23:26to be painful too big or too small.
- 1:23:28That's a problem. Okay, well, in those pants with
- 1:23:32a cookie with that money that you have, would you rather go to
- 1:23:35the mall during a holiday season, or to the amusement park
- 1:23:39on a summer weekend? Oh, amusement park.
- 1:23:44No summer weekends. Yeah, I'm a fan.
- 1:23:47I don't care. That's one of the few scenarios
- 1:23:51where I don't mind the people. And this one is just for poops
- 1:23:57and Giggles, would you rather read subtitles or listen to
- 1:24:00dubbed, voices? Great question, actually
- 1:24:05definitely listen to voices because I grew up on Kung Fu
- 1:24:09theater. I mean that that was my European
- 1:24:14life in a nutshell. Yes.
- 1:24:16Yes. What we did hundred percent?
- 1:24:22I cannot chew. I cannot appropriately.
- 1:24:25Tell you how much I love with subtitles.
- 1:24:29I can't stand subtitles, first of all, Chuck, doesn't like to
- 1:24:34read, let's start that it's distracting.
- 1:24:38Let's start don't even see what's on the screen.
- 1:24:41Because you're just reading. Subtitles are not the greatest
- 1:24:47but but listen dubbed invoices, is that just absolutely
- 1:24:52hilarious. It's like your own personal
- 1:24:54version of Mystery Science. Theater 3000, Yep.
- 1:24:58I'm a nerd greatest movies I've ever watched where subtitles I
- 1:25:02mean and I but again when you've spent 13 to 14 years of your
- 1:25:08life over there and you appreciate the language and yeah
- 1:25:12I mean there's some you've missed out Clyde, I'm telling
- 1:25:16you there's there's some very very good movies out there that
- 1:25:21you know you get you get sucked in you know but I have no doubt
- 1:25:26book because I thought But you've read the whole book, so
- 1:25:31I'd like to read either, by the way, governor governor I don't
- 1:25:34disagree. I'm sure there are the problem
- 1:25:36is, I will never see him because I'm too busy reading the damn
- 1:25:39straight. Well, I didn't see nothing
- 1:25:45again. It's a book.
- 1:25:47Pretty Christmas Clyde is getting books.
- 1:25:49Is getting books on tape for sure with that.
- 1:25:55Oh my gosh. Okay, the floor is yours.
- 1:26:00Okay. 62, would you rather spend 48 hours with Barack Obama or 48
- 1:26:08hours with Martin Luther King jr.
- 1:26:10Hmm. You know, there was a, it was a
- 1:26:15long time ago where that did that conversation would have
- 1:26:18been very very difficult for me. It's a big it's not anymore was
- 1:26:24an I love em. Okay, he's my frat brother, but
- 1:26:27if I had 48 hours unfettered With Barack Obama.
- 1:26:31Listen eggs, I could die and go to heaven.
- 1:26:35What? And that's why I put in, that's
- 1:26:36why I put him, okay, and it was I knew it was your frat
- 1:26:38brothers. Oh yeah, I'm just going to say
- 1:26:44this like he is, he is definitely the most under
- 1:26:48underappreciated American human who will one day be the most
- 1:26:53appreciated. Absolutely.
- 1:26:55Right. Like that man is going to age
- 1:26:59beautifully. Yeah.
- 1:27:00Like because I can smooth right now when Jimmy Carter was a
- 1:27:03president, nobody cared. Hmm right.
- 1:27:07But then there was this time we're like Jimmy Carter's like
- 1:27:12the sage like everybody wants to talk to Jimmy and I'm like okay
- 1:27:16if that will happen to Jimmy. Carter trust me.
- 1:27:20What will happen in Barack Obama's aging.
- 1:27:23Life is going to be a thing of beauty.
- 1:27:30All right, I'll go next. Good because I have a really
- 1:27:33Petty one for him. Awesome.
- 1:27:35I was pretty, I was praying, I get a petty Clyde question
- 1:27:38today. She's would you rather have
- 1:27:41Beyonce's Talent OR Jay-Z's business Acumen?
- 1:27:45I've seen that question and I've refrained her a good time.
- 1:27:52I mean, that's an easy one, Jay-Z's business, acumen, Yeah.
- 1:28:01I mean, at the end of the day, when you get older, you realize,
- 1:28:03like, knowing what to do with the money is more important.
- 1:28:06More important than having the ability to make it.
- 1:28:09Yes. Right.
- 1:28:11I think about the think of that power meeting, right?
- 1:28:13Because Beyoncé is not a flub. Like she's got business Acumen
- 1:28:17to maybe not to this. I'm not going to hit this up.
- 1:28:22All right, now to a, we're not doing that, but nothing but at
- 1:28:26the end of the day, like, if you want a really want to
- 1:28:28trance-like, right? And even I won't say a better
- 1:28:31question is, I don't wanna disrespect your question, but
- 1:28:33I'll say this, there are people if you ask that question about
- 1:28:36Shaq, that would get that wrong. Mmm.
- 1:28:39You asked what you rather have sex Talent or have sex business
- 1:28:42Acumen. There are people who will be
- 1:28:43like, oh, I take Shacks talent and I'm like, you're an idiot.
- 1:28:47Well, that check is well on his way to be in a bill.
- 1:28:49Ian Ayre, and he's definitely a better businessman than he was a
- 1:28:51basketball player. He's a Hall of Famer.
- 1:28:53Yeah. So the question like, the real
- 1:28:55question is, would you rather have had his NBA career?
- 1:28:59Or would you rather his post NBA career, post NBA career.
- 1:29:03Many people would absolutely get that wrong for sure.
- 1:29:08Removing all right, sir. So this may be my best.
- 1:29:13Betty. Would you wrap OKC night-night
- 1:29:16now you setting it up. You set yourself up for failure
- 1:29:18now because you know you will high bar.
- 1:29:20Oh it is but it's so perfect for you.
- 1:29:23Would you rather acknowledge 62 or 73?
- 1:29:29Hmm. Again, I think for other people,
- 1:29:37this question is more difficult. So lucious is no me the longest.
- 1:29:43So he'll this will bring the most true to him.
- 1:29:49From the time, I was like three years old, things being fair,
- 1:29:52mattered more to me than anything on the planet.
- 1:29:55Right? And I just, I hate cheaters, do
- 1:29:57I think Barry Bonds is a first-ballot hall-of-famer, my
- 1:30:00talent, even without the 73 without question that the end of
- 1:30:04the day, if you are on growth hormone and other things that
- 1:30:08are illegal and you hit 70, three home runs, I don't even
- 1:30:10care if the reasons why you did it, I can understand because I
- 1:30:13definitely can. I'd rather have The righteous 62
- 1:30:18home runs, then the questionable 73.
- 1:30:24Hmm, like they're not close to me.
- 1:30:26I'm not one of those people who's like, we need to strike
- 1:30:28Barry from the record books and Nadia you want to know why?
- 1:30:31That's not my job. That's baseball job.
- 1:30:33They got a mess to figure out, and they can't.
- 1:30:36They're not trying to think of the word without saying a bad
- 1:30:41Micra word. They don't have the stones to
- 1:30:46police themselves. Right.
- 1:30:49Look if Barry. If we're going to treat Barry
- 1:30:53like a pariah, so he's not going to Hall of Fame.
- 1:30:55Right then why we still have his record.
- 1:30:58This is. Yeah, right.
- 1:31:00You can't. Yeah, I don't, I don't get that.
- 1:31:02You can't have it both ways. Like he either is or he ain't
- 1:31:07Right? If 762, I think it is whatever I
- 1:31:10think it's 762 and and 73 are the records that someone has to
- 1:31:15pursue. The Barry should have been in
- 1:31:17the Hall of Fame, like six years ago.
- 1:31:19Yeah. But if he's not going the Hall
- 1:31:21of Fame, why don't we still? Why we chasing these records?
- 1:31:23Hank? Aaron 755 is the answer.
- 1:31:28I agree. And and listen, we all, we all
- 1:31:31understand both for practical and you know, real life reasons
- 1:31:37you're the baseball guy here, right?
- 1:31:40I grew up a baseball fan and that seems to be the question of
- 1:31:44the week, right? Or the question of the past
- 1:31:46month, like, which side of this, which side of this, are you on?
- 1:31:50And I've heard smart things on both sides of it.
- 1:31:55What you just said, ranks right up there with any of them.
- 1:31:57I just you know if you're an actual fan of the game it might
- 1:32:02be a tough question for some people.
- 1:32:04So, good job, sir. I just feel like it.
- 1:32:08Thank you. But I just feel like baseball
- 1:32:11just refuses to police itself. You know, like I wasn't old
- 1:32:17enough for when this happened but I am old enough to the
- 1:32:21initial conversations about it, right?
- 1:32:24People love Babe Ruth so much that when when Roger Maris and
- 1:32:29Mickey Mantle were pursuing the record people were okay with
- 1:32:33Mickey Mantle breaking the record because he was talented
- 1:32:36enough and he's a favorite son. Yankee, Roger Maris was was a
- 1:32:42traded for Yankee and he Not worthy.
- 1:32:46And You know, he had death threats, this is craziness but
- 1:32:51then he breaks the record and what does baseball do.
- 1:32:56They they are so married to their love to Babe Ruth that
- 1:33:01that initially for like the first 15 years, the Roger Maris
- 1:33:04had the record, it was listed with an asterisk because Babe
- 1:33:08Ruth hit 60. Home runs in 154 games and Roger
- 1:33:11Maris hit 61 home runs and 162. And I was just like you guys
- 1:33:17serious. If you check, listen football
- 1:33:20now has 17 games right before they had 17, they had 16 before
- 1:33:25they had 16. They have 14.
- 1:33:27We don't put any of the NFL records in with an asterisk.
- 1:33:31Because the NFL knows that's dumb. well Lamar, I mean the
- 1:33:37when, when Pro Sports football basketball, baseball, decided to
- 1:33:45move into this category, and you know, exactly what category, I
- 1:33:50mean, you know, the idea that Any drug involved in fractions
- 1:33:59are literally under one policy. So as a fan, it's easily
- 1:34:08dismissed. Right?
- 1:34:10The bottom line is, we have to put the product on the field and
- 1:34:14they have to continue to do super heroic crazy things.
- 1:34:20That is what drives a sport. So it's amazing to me, you know,
- 1:34:26and I've been watching Ever, Since Aaron judge, hit hit that
- 1:34:29home, run that the pundits. they aren't even afraid to voice
- 1:34:37their support for Barry Bonds, their support and their love for
- 1:34:43McGuire and Sosa and and how much they romanticize that still
- 1:34:51And it doesn't matter that these folks were on drugs and are not
- 1:34:56because the things are so muddled.
- 1:34:59Now that it doesn't matter anymore, it doesn't matter
- 1:35:04anymore. Well, the funny part is like if
- 1:35:06you're if you're He's Frozen. Well battery, I don't know, hold
- 1:35:22on to that time shirt with the sleeves and that's that's your
- 1:35:27key to wrap it up to ya. Not being said, everyone have a
- 1:35:34safe week, enjoy yourself dressed up.
- 1:35:37If you're going on fall break, like some of us are enjoy fall
- 1:35:40break because it's the quiet before the storm.
- 1:35:43That's what I keep saying, everybody.
- 1:35:45So have a great week, everyone. And we'll see each other soon.
- 1:35:49Bye. Well, the last come on remote
- 1:35:54stick to running with the lights.
- 1:35:55Come on opponent smash the ramen.
- 1:35:57Would you like it warm hot knife through butter to film or knock
- 1:36:01them off their rebuttal. So now I mean by the way, to you
- 1:36:05for a little tough love much when arms little brothers
- 1:36:08Athletics. See these four corners wouldn't
- 1:36:22be here but we have to start mining.
- 1:36:24You gotta understand. It's Gotta Catch Stars.
- 1:36:27Show you how to fight for? Show us who you are, you lack
- 1:36:30experience, but still you want to tell and who is have drunk to
- 1:36:33yourself. Kind of small heads prevail when
- 1:36:36the backbone strong. Gotta Give A Promenade won't
- 1:36:39last long bastard, do this until the session and if you don't
- 1:36:44check yourself and that's wrong just trying to give you the real
- 1:36:47chance for so why you keep cutting us off.
- 1:36:50Off to a small. We put it in slow-mo what you
- 1:36:53fast for it.
