- 0:00Grand Touring Motorsport started as a social group of car enthusiasts,
- 0:04but we've expanded into all sorts of motor sports disciplines and we
- 0:08want to share our stories with you.
- 0:10Years of racing wrenching and motorsports experience brings together
- 0:14a topnotch collection of knowledge and information through our podcast.
- 0:18Break Fix.
- 0:22Yeah.
- 0:25Hey everybody.
- 0:26I'm Steve.
- 0:26And I'm Izzy.
- 0:27And we're with everything I learned from Movies and Tonight.
- 0:32Oh, too Nice.
- 0:36We're talking car movies with break fix.
- 0:41Woo.
- 0:42That's right.
- 0:43Tonight.
- 0:43Tonight.
- 0:43Tonight in one of the ultimate No Prep Showdowns of the year, we
- 0:48attempt to pit original versus remake in a best of car adjacent movies.
- 0:52Drag Race.
- 0:53That's right and the movie Buffs.
- 0:55Steve and Izzy, from everything I learned from movies, are joining us
- 0:58tonight on this Car Nerds versus Movie Buffs Break Fix crossover episode.
- 1:03So why do we get this drag race started?
- 1:06Wait, we're not racing for pinks, are we?
- 1:08I'm not sure that's up to them.
- 1:09Look, I got a lot to put on the line here.
- 1:12I drive a 96 Honda Accord and I'm sorry.
- 1:16I'm very sorry for you.
- 1:19I got some hot wheels.
- 1:21Oh, I just found my micro machine.
- 1:23So yeah, there we go.
- 1:25Uh, I can talk almost as fast as the micro machines guy.
- 1:27I'm getting close these days.
- 1:29You know, it's the Red Bull really doesn't talk that sometimes you can
- 1:31talk really, really fast, especially if you've had a couple of good drinks.
- 1:33But yeah.
- 1:34So let's hit the stage a little bit.
- 1:35Let's hit the rules, just like our, what should I buy episodes.
- 1:38I think this one deserves a little bit of context for our listeners.
- 1:40Just like in the car world, the movie world is often debated, you
- 1:45know, new versus old, is Star Wars episode one just as good as a new
- 1:49hope or, you know, vice versa?
- 1:52The answer is.
- 1:52Yeah, maybe, but in some cases, absolutely not.
- 1:55The rule of sequels comes into play.
- 1:57The Joel Shoe micro versions of Batman were terrible, and we all know that
- 2:00the Tim Burton ones are fantastic.
- 2:02I'm just gonna leave it at that.
- 2:03That being said, cars are also remade over and over again and their original
- 2:08image and sometimes, you know, morphed into something completely reimagined.
- 2:13But they're always sequels.
- 2:15So are they better?
- 2:17And so let's try to answer those questions about car related movies
- 2:20and whether they are better.
- 2:21And let's talk about the cars that are featured in those films.
- 2:24Steven?
- 2:24Izzy, why don't you kick us off?
- 2:26What do you wanna talk about first?
- 2:27Look, if you guys are gonna sit around here and justify the Bronco two, I'm out.
- 2:34No, but I wanna correct Eric on something.
- 2:37These aren't sequels to the original movies.
- 2:39These are remakes.
- 2:41This is like a new Thunderbird, I mean.
- 2:43Yeah, well, we'll talk about it.
- 2:45You guys heard our, uh, gone in 60 seconds episodes, kind of how we were introduced.
- 2:49Uh, absolutely.
- 2:50Let's, let's start with the old versus new for Gone in 60 seconds.
- 2:53Absolutely.
- 2:54And we too did a movie Mixed Bag episode where we talked about the
- 2:58original Gone in 60 Seconds and that movie Trash, it's tragic.
- 3:03It really is.
- 3:04I mean, it's, it's akin to the Red Death, holy crap.
- 3:06Right.
- 3:07The DMV safety videos they used to show you in like the eighties and
- 3:10stuff like this might happen to you if you don't wear your seatbelt.
- 3:14That that movie is, if GTM members.
- 3:17Had an unlimited budget and said, Hey, let's make a movie.
- 3:20And by and unlimited you mean 20 grand and a six pack and about 15 Mustangs.
- 3:28Hell yeah.
- 3:28Yeah.
- 3:28True.
- 3:29Well, but but but it was back in the seventies so you could
- 3:31get 'em for like $2,000.
- 3:33That's true.
- 3:33And legend has it according to our researcher.
- 3:37Right.
- 3:37We always have to fact check some of the stuff we do.
- 3:39There was only one Mustang used in that movie.
- 3:41It's the same pile of crap through that entire 90 minutes.
- 3:45Yeah.
- 3:46Oh wow.
- 3:46Even Dukes of Hazard had a couple spares.
- 3:48They had like 79 chargers they use over the course of that show.
- 3:52Yeah, and there's another one to talk about remakes and sequels there too.
- 3:56The Duke's a hazard.
- 3:57Oh, Jessica Simpson Hutch and, oh God.
- 4:01Oh, that was terrible.
- 4:03Its Snoop Dog was Huggy Bears when Thirsty Met Hutch.
- 4:07So let's reference for those that don't know, the 1970s classic.
- 4:12Gone in 60 seconds.
- 4:14HB Helleck used a 74 Mustang, which actually wasn't a Mach one, but he
- 4:18modified to look like one, which was the hot ticket upgrade package
- 4:22for the Mustang at that time.
- 4:24And he did all his own stunts, much like Jackie Chan, Jason
- 4:27Statham, and Tom Cruise.
- 4:29But it didn't turn out so well for Eleanor at the end of the movie.
- 4:32As you guys, you know, kind of walked that through for the audience.
- 4:35And most people can't stand to make it through that film.
- 4:39But when gone in 60 Seconds with Nicholas Cage came out, I think they just.
- 4:43Turned the whole thing on its nose.
- 4:4567 GT 500 Mustang.
- 4:47Where'd that come from?
- 4:47I mean, Eleanor, the original one wasn't one of those.
- 4:50Does that make it better?
- 4:51Does it make it worse?
- 4:52I don't know if the acting was any better in the second movie.
- 4:54What about you?
- 4:56Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 4:57Academy Award winner, Nicholas Cage as Memphis Range.
- 5:02We almost named our cats after that character.
- 5:05He said, we, Cameron and Poe, you know.
- 5:10But did Nicholas Cage come into himself yet at that point,
- 5:13compared to other movies?
- 5:14Just after the Rock and Con Air and Face Off and, oh, yeah.
- 5:18Leaving Las Vegas, which he won an Academy award for.
- 5:20Yeah, yeah.
- 5:21This, this was before, you know, the, the divorces downturn, the,
- 5:24yeah, the divorces of the team.
- 5:25This was his heyday.
- 5:27Yeah, this is Peak Nicholas Cage.
- 5:28Action star.
- 5:29You kidding me?
- 5:30This is like the end of the peak.
- 5:32This is like National Treasure Nicholas Cage.
- 5:34This is how he earned all his money to buy all those castles and shit.
- 5:38Yeah.
- 5:38I mean Rex T-Rex skull and Yeah.
- 5:41And, and various wives from other nations and Yeah.
- 5:45And I hear the Ferrari in National Treasure was his too.
- 5:48So a little bit of millionaire trivia there.
- 5:50Yeah.
- 5:50Before the bill collectors took it and the, uh, it was, and the
- 5:53pyramid that he purchased for the uh, the sequel that didn't get made.
- 5:57Oh yeah.
- 5:57National Treasure three St. Louis Cathedral number one.
- 6:00Check it out.
- 6:00You know, I would've watched that movie 'cause I was a big fan of the first two.
- 6:03So, Hey, I am just saying hate everybody.
- 6:06I'd still watch it.
- 6:06I should probably let the listeners at home know that, uh.
- 6:09Nicholas Cage is the, probably the patron saint of our podcast.
- 6:13We have interviewed his brother, a bunch of his directors, his standin.
- 6:20So we're coming for you, Nick.
- 6:21We're kind of circling around his stand in.
- 6:23Actually.
- 6:23He'll get wind, I think.
- 6:25What exactly are you, what exactly are you circling though?
- 6:27That's what I want to know.
- 6:28The Nicholas Cage, we're we're, I'm sorry.
- 6:30We are orbiting Nicholas Cage and eventually we're gonna crash
- 6:34through that atmosphere and boom.
- 6:36Since you're a satellite or moon around Nicholas Cage, is there
- 6:39a, is there a name for this?
- 6:41Steve, what is the name of our podcast?
- 6:44From movies and all the major pod catchers and follow us at EIL F movies
- 6:48on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
- 6:50Brilliant.
- 6:51So also Steve's nickname is Ship Plugger Steve.
- 6:55'cause you plug Arch anywhere.
- 6:57That's right.
- 6:57Nice.
- 6:58Oh, and then I mentioned Patreon because us $2 a month Anyway.
- 7:02But I have to say Nicolas Cage is so desperate right now.
- 7:05I'm surprised that he hasn't actually called you guys to come on your show.
- 7:08Look, look.
- 7:09He's far too busy to be talking to us.
- 7:11Yeah.
- 7:11But uh, here's the thing.
- 7:12Everybody thinks he's desperate.
- 7:14Yeah.
- 7:14Nichols Cage is really at a really interesting point in his career because
- 7:18he's free to do all these little movies.
- 7:20He's doing so many characters right now.
- 7:24Free to do has to do, oh no, he is, he's going through and like
- 7:28choosing wildly different characters and putting a cage spin on him.
- 7:32Like, if you keep watching these, he's doing some really,
- 7:36really interesting stuff.
- 7:38And by the way guys, think of it this way.
- 7:39If he were to do, you know, national Treasure three and get $20 million,
- 7:43how much of that does he actually get?
- 7:45Five, how many you'll compare to his ex-wives and managers?
- 7:50Oh, well, yeah.
- 7:50Yeah.
- 7:50It's a, it's like trickle down Reaganomics at that point, you know?
- 7:53Yeah.
- 7:53So he's like, just getting enough to get by and, you know, the, the tax
- 7:56man or whatever's like, well, we can't have this guy living out of a shoebox.
- 7:59You know, he's like the, uh, the Hollywood version of Michael Strahan.
- 8:03He had to keep playing in the NFL to appease his ex-wife.
- 8:06Yeah.
- 8:06Or, or he just goes, wherever Wesley Snipes went after demolition, man,
- 8:10you know, it'll be okay in 20 years.
- 8:12It'll be fine.
- 8:13Two steps ahead of the tax man.
- 8:14Exactly.
- 8:14Exactly.
- 8:14Be, but yeah, he's able to express himself different ways to all these odd things
- 8:19that he wouldn't be able to do if he was.
- 8:21I don't know, playing Nick Fury or something in the Avengers
- 8:23movies or something like that.
- 8:24Yeah, he, he gets to do a lot of different characters.
- 8:27I'm gonna point to a Willy's Wonder world.
- 8:30Willie's Wonderland.
- 8:30Yes.
- 8:30Willie's won Wonderland.
- 8:31That's it.
- 8:32Or where was Will's?
- 8:33I dunno.
- 8:33That movie is amazing and he doesn't say a word.
- 8:37I think where he's peaked though now for me is that, what is it?
- 8:40The history of curse words or whatever he did on Netflix.
- 8:42Yeah, that was good stuff.
- 8:43That was fantastic.
- 8:44Some best comedy ever.
- 8:45I'd say the first two or three episodes were fantastic,
- 8:47and then it kind of went on.
- 8:49Yeah, and that was not Nick Cage's fault, that was the writer's fault.
- 8:53You could tell where they lost.
- 8:54Steam and we're just make having fun.
- 8:56The whole premise of that show was around fuck.
- 8:58And then they didn't know what to do after that.
- 9:00A hundred percent.
- 9:01Wait, is Dick a bad word
- 9:05we're gonna talk about?
- 9:06Heck yeah.
- 9:07So going back to this drag race between the, the original guy 60 seconds.
- 9:11Yeah.
- 9:12Try.
- 9:12Is that what we're doing here, Memphis?
- 9:15So going back back to the Drag Race, I love RuPaul.
- 9:18What?
- 9:18Yes.
- 9:19But the reason I say is the new one better than the old one?
- 9:23Yes.
- 9:23And is the acting any better in the new one than the old one?
- 9:25Yes.
- 9:25Is, well, I'll put it this way.
- 9:27The old one didn't have much in the way of dialogue.
- 9:30And in those old seventies movies, that's not necessarily a bad thing.
- 9:34If you've ever watched the movie Lamonts by Steve McQueen, there's about three
- 9:37minutes of acting and talking in a three hour movie, and it's glorious.
- 9:41And more, more of those old films should be that way.
- 9:44However, when you get to the new Gone in 60 seconds, there's just some really just.
- 9:49I wanna say cringey stuff with Giovanni Robi and, uh, you know, what's her face?
- 9:55Angeline, Angeline, Julie?
- 9:57Yes, but what Sway or whatever her name is.
- 9:59But what gets me is, is Nick Cage basically acting much
- 10:04like a young William Shatner.
- 10:06Like every time I watch the movie, I'm like, there's.
- 10:09A car in a C container.
- 10:11Oh, let's get it.
- 10:13And you're just like, come on man.
- 10:14What is this?
- 10:16He's playing the straight man, the deep one.
- 10:19He's, he's lived too much life already.
- 10:21Yeah.
- 10:22They all can't be, you know, Delroy Lindo and Robert Duval and Hai McBride.
- 10:27Both movies though are very much of their time.
- 10:30Yeah.
- 10:30Like a hundred percent something.
- 10:31They're like looking at Gone in 60 Seconds as like a new movie.
- 10:35But that movie's like 25 years old now.
- 10:37Yeah.
- 10:38It it be what, 2000 I think when it came out.
- 10:39Yeah.
- 10:39There are people listening to this podcast that were born after that movie came out.
- 10:43Did you see the, uh, the road sign on the way into the podcast
- 10:46that says BoomTown Exit now.
- 10:49Welcome, welcome to Boomer.
- 10:50You're here, BoomTown.
- 10:52That's all right.
- 10:52I'm pretty sure we're geriatric millennials at this point.
- 10:56I thought we were elder millennials.
- 10:58Oh Lord.
- 10:59Zals.
- 11:00I would say, if we're gonna put some numbers on this, I'd say off
- 11:04the line, big old burnout, both of 'em hit you in the face right away.
- 11:08I mean, big clouds of smoke from both movies that get your attention.
- 11:12I think in the eighth mile, they're pretty much tied in terms of
- 11:15satisfaction and entertainment.
- 11:17But when it comes down to, what did you get outta the movie at the end?
- 11:21My vote is the new one wins and so does the new Eleanor.
- 11:25And for one big reason, nobody has a picture of a 74 mock one
- 11:30Mustang on their bedroom wall.
- 11:32I think everybody of our generation probably and still has a picture of
- 11:36the GT 500 Eleanor in their garage or in their wall or somewhere in their.
- 11:40Yeah, that's a good point.
- 11:41Oh yeah.
- 11:42Would you guys agree?
- 11:43I think the new one definitely wins over the old one.
- 11:46Yes.
- 11:46Oh yeah.
- 11:46Yeah, it it's got like the jokes like it's very nineties, but it's a fun nineties.
- 11:51Yeah, it has like a hacker's element to it with cars.
- 11:54Exactly.
- 11:55Exactly.
- 11:55I was a certain age when it came out.
- 11:57I'm a hundred percent in it still holds up now though.
- 12:01I will agree.
- 12:02I mean, both have their place in cinematic history.
- 12:04I mean, the original gone in 60 seconds for everything that went into that movie.
- 12:08The mass amounts of illegal things they did in that movie.
- 12:11When you really dive into that film, it's a big wow factor.
- 12:15And we do cover it on that other episode.
- 12:16So, you know, I'm not gonna belabor that point.
- 12:18So I think both of them have their place in history, much like an old
- 12:21Mustang drag racing against a new one.
- 12:23Right.
- 12:23It's cool to see them side by side, but I think we gotta move
- 12:25on to another film that's just as.
- 12:28Awkward.
- 12:29But, but, but before we move on, so the, if we're keeping score, the
- 12:32new movie is up by one and the old movies are down to zero still, right?
- 12:37Yes.
- 12:38Just make sure we keep, keep track of that and now we'll continue.
- 12:40So, vanishing point.
- 12:41Vanishing point.
- 12:44Yeah.
- 12:44The original vanishing point with the 70 Challenger and the
- 12:48naked girl riding a motorcycle.
- 12:50Oh yeah.
- 12:51That shit, that's pretty hard to beat.
- 12:52I'm not him alive.
- 12:53That movie is amazing.
- 12:54I wanted to be Kowalski and I was born 20 years too late for that.
- 12:59Your dad was Kowalski though?
- 13:00Oh yeah.
- 13:01My dad was probably Kowalski at one point.
- 13:03Steve's dad was a canine cop.
- 13:06Yeah, he had the aviators and the mustache.
- 13:08So picture that movie, but with a dog in the seat.
- 13:11And that was Steve's dad.
- 13:13So I agree with you, and it's another one of those seventies films where the
- 13:17amount of dialogue is next to zero.
- 13:19I mean, how many times does Barry Newman actually talk in that movie?
- 13:22At all, right?
- 13:23Yeah, yeah.
- 13:23The, the, the talking versus nudity in that movie, it's like, yeah, they're woke
- 13:27about five minutes and the rest is just, you know, being, and that motorcycle
- 13:31scene can be deleted and it doesn't take away from the film, but of course not.
- 13:35But it does add having it in, but it adds much value.
- 13:38But, you know what does really bring it home for me though, is like the,
- 13:42uh, I can't remember the name of the guy who was the, in the radio
- 13:44booth and was kind of egging him on and giving him all the pointers.
- 13:48Immediately my mind goes to Poodie Tang.
- 13:51Yeah, why love that movie?
- 13:54Chop the Towel.
- 13:58The other one can what a t But in the other corner, in, in lane
- 14:02number two is an actual remake of the seventies Vanishing Point with
- 14:08Vigo Mortenson and Jason Priestly.
- 14:11I haven't seen this one.
- 14:12I can't seem to like really find it anywhere streaming, but found out about
- 14:15this, uh, like a year or two ago and I was like, holy shit, Vigo did this.
- 14:19I, I gotta see it.
- 14:20Yeah.
- 14:20I didn't realize you hadn't seen that.
- 14:21I think this is like that Sinbad Kazam movie that like, it doesn't
- 14:25exist, but everybody thinks it exists and they've seen it.
- 14:28We all saw that movie.
- 14:29It's legit.
- 14:30Yes, we did.
- 14:31It's a conspiracy.
- 14:32So I happen to see this movie and I think I have a copy somewhere.
- 14:35I gotta go dig it up.
- 14:36And I will say, when the cars pull up to the Christmas tree.
- 14:40It's the same car.
- 14:41It's not.
- 14:42Chrysler used this as an excuse to debut the New Challenger
- 14:46because it was too early for that.
- 14:47Right?
- 14:47The new Challenger didn't come out till the two thousands.
- 14:50So here we are in 1997 and yet another 70 71 Challenger RT in White.
- 14:54Same thing.
- 14:55It's the same story.
- 14:57It's a literal remake.
- 14:58It's not even a sequel.
- 14:59It's not even reimagined.
- 15:01There's more dialogue.
- 15:02Vigo Mortenson plays a role.
- 15:06It's, I'm gonna just put it that way.
- 15:09Yeah.
- 15:09But Jason Priestly plays Kowalski in the movie.
- 15:12And if you have, if you've seen the original movie, it
- 15:15ends pretty much the same way.
- 15:17Nothing really earth shattering there.
- 15:18It was just like, Hey, did you guys hear about this film
- 15:21that we did in the seventies?
- 15:23Oh no.
- 15:23Well, here, check this one out.
- 15:25Well, okay, so it sounds like the original's gonna take
- 15:28this one far off in a way.
- 15:29Like, like, like the other one blows a tire or something off the line.
- 15:33What about 2000 sixes or six or eight?
- 15:36I forget.
- 15:37Death proof where we get the 70 Challenger.
- 15:40Driven by like Zoe Bell and uh, yeah, uh, Sidney Poitier and all that.
- 15:46The lady Sidney Poitier.
- 15:48I dunno.
- 15:48So if we're, if we're gonna do it, if we're gonna do it as a drag
- 15:51race and we got Kowalski in lane number one, Jason Priest is out.
- 15:55He just got thrashed.
- 15:56Yeah.
- 15:57This next challenger pulls up in lane number two.
- 16:00I think it's another thrashing by the original Challenger from Banishing
- 16:03Point with Kowalski behind the wheel because of the originality of
- 16:06that film, because of its epicness.
- 16:08I mean, it's got a cult following.
- 16:10Anything else we'd bring to the line with a challenger outside
- 16:13of maybe fasten the Furious.
- 16:15Six or seven or 12 or 14, however many, however many gear shifts they
- 16:19use on a, in a quarter mile is the only thing that might stand up to it.
- 16:23But I think Kowalski wins every time.
- 16:25Yeah.
- 16:25So going back to death proof real quick, because one, Eric, I think you're wrong.
- 16:29So is this the Quentin Tarantino double feature death proof?
- 16:33Yeah.
- 16:33From the Grindhouse double feature?
- 16:35Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 16:35Okay.
- 16:35So, so that one wins for sure because of the story and everything.
- 16:39And I think that movie's awesome.
- 16:41Honestly, this is an unpopular opinion.
- 16:43I did not like the original vanishing point.
- 16:45I was bored to tears.
- 16:47I fell asleep like two or three times.
- 16:49Uh, so I'm not gonna lie, I am.
- 16:52Sort of with you entertainment value wise?
- 16:56It's not the highest, but I respect it the way that I respect, like Citizen Kane.
- 17:01Yeah.
- 17:02It's not what I refer to as like a, uh, it's what I refer
- 17:05to as like a popcorn movie.
- 17:07It's like, yeah, put it on.
- 17:08I'm gonna watch it.
- 17:09I'm gonna consume it.
- 17:10I'm gonna enjoy it.
- 17:11But I so appreciate what it did for car movies and the industry and everything.
- 17:17And yeah.
- 17:17The, the second one is sort of like the remake of Psycho.
- 17:21Did we need It?
- 17:22Is it a bad version?
- 17:23No, but did we need it at all?
- 17:25Vigo only plays two characters.
- 17:26He plays stoic and he plays a wooden board that everybody else acts around and he
- 17:33kind of would, wouldn't morden this one.
- 17:35I swear I saw a wooden board with the same name at IKEA once.
- 17:39Right.
- 17:40Well I have to say we have to times stamp this episode 'cause this is the first
- 17:44time in human history where Banishing Point has been compared to Citizen Kane.
- 17:49Right.
- 17:49Ah, that's true.
- 17:51That is a first.
- 17:53Yeah, it's like eh, you know, it's like, yeah, I respect Easy Rider, but Torque
- 17:58or Biker Boys is so much better because it ticket that next level biker boys
- 18:06because the new kids and you know it.
- 18:08That's right.
- 18:10Death proof wins this race and it's not even in it.
- 18:13I think it's a bracket race and they all come in at the same time
- 18:16because that's the way it works.
- 18:17These, these two Honda Civics are running and then the deaf proof charger
- 18:22comes barreling past them on the highway and laughs as it drives by.
- 18:26All right.
- 18:26I'll give you that.
- 18:27I'll give you that.
- 18:28Somebody put a blower on that Challenger and that's why it's
- 18:31winning compared to the other two.
- 18:32Normally aspirated.
- 18:3471 Charger rts.
- 18:36All right, let's go with that.
- 18:37With five cylinders comes outta nowhere, plow race over.
- 18:41Next up to the line in the left lane is Mel Gibson, 1979 Ford Falcon, XBGT from
- 18:50Mad Max and Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron in the 2015 remake of Mad Max Fury Road.
- 18:57My heart, I love all of them so much.
- 19:00Yeah.
- 19:01I'm gonna make it even closer.
- 19:02Let's go Road Warrior versus Fury Road because Okay, the,
- 19:07the original Mad Max 1979.
- 19:09Love the Aussie movies from the seventies.
- 19:12So many great stuff.
- 19:13Yeah, definitely.
- 19:13Just the, an Aus exploitation movie.
- 19:15A hundred percent.
- 19:16Yeah, it, it's fantastic.
- 19:17The story of, it's basically Mel Gibson's a cop and is it post-apocalyptic
- 19:22or just Outback Australia, where the law really doesn't mean much.
- 19:25All of the above.
- 19:26Yeah.
- 19:27Yeah.
- 19:27That, that's just the outback.
- 19:28That's just how it is even today.
- 19:30I mean, if you watch Top Gear Australia, it's like an episode of Mad Max.
- 19:34Yeah, there we go.
- 19:35But then when we get to Road Warrior, then it's like, okay, this
- 19:38movie, this, this is a world now.
- 19:40Same car though.
- 19:41Same car.
- 19:42So, okay.
- 19:43And same limp.
- 19:44He's got the same limp.
- 19:45It is.
- 19:45He's doing a stanky leg.
- 19:49And then Fury Roads just probably the best movie I've seen in 10 years easily.
- 19:53Steve, who was my favorite character when we came out of watching Fury Road.
- 19:56Oh, the war rig.
- 19:57It was the war rig.
- 19:58The war rig, absolutely.
- 19:59That truck is phenomenal.
- 20:01Da.
- 20:06The thing that gets me about that though is they would've been the bad guy
- 20:09cars in the original Mad Max trilogy.
- 20:13Yeah.
- 20:13We're pulling up to the line with basically an armored truck or a tank
- 20:17against this Ford from Australia.
- 20:19So how do we compare that, right?
- 20:22Because I guess the equivalent obstruction bur Yeah, exactly.
- 20:25Yeah.
- 20:25Mad Max demo derby.
- 20:28Remind me, how did the cars end up, didn't it get destroyed in Fury Road?
- 20:33The Warrick?
- 20:34Uh, yeah, no, the, the Falcon or, uh, well the Falcon survived
- 20:38two and a half movies, right?
- 20:39'cause it was there at the beginning of Thunderdome Thunderdome
- 20:42and then he a abandons it.
- 20:43So I would say longevity wise, it lasted longer than the, uh, the
- 20:47war wagons and all that kind stuff.
- 20:48What happened to those vehicles?
- 20:50Inferior.
- 20:50I'm trying.
- 20:51Remember the war rig?
- 20:52Oh, they blow it up.
- 20:52No.
- 20:53Yeah, that's right.
- 20:53The, uh, the, in the beginning or whatever, the wild boys or whatever.
- 20:57Catch up to 'em and take him to the prison, wherever.
- 21:00I assume they dismantled it or something, or not, you know, at
- 21:02the, the end of the movie, remember they sacrifice it to get away.
- 21:05Oh shit.
- 21:06That's right.
- 21:06That's the one that blows up at the end.
- 21:07Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 21:08Because like, I legit almost cried.
- 21:10Yeah, that's right.
- 21:11That wonderful 3D moment where he got like the steering wheel coming
- 21:14at the screen and my, because my husband leaned over and was like, they
- 21:18always kill your favorite character.
- 21:22That's awesome.
- 21:23So Brad, let's, let's think about that.
- 21:25Is that a forfeit on the part of the new movie because the vehicle didn't survive?
- 21:29I guess we're not lumping in all, like the trilogy, the Mad Max
- 21:32trilogy, just the first movie.
- 21:34Technically, or the second movie, road Warrior is the second movie.
- 21:37Yeah.
- 21:38Okay.
- 21:38Because, because if we're throwing in Thunderdome, then
- 21:40it's like Schrodinger's cat.
- 21:41We don't know if the car survived or not.
- 21:45So we bring in the Gyro captain.
- 21:47Yeah, the gyro cop.
- 21:50I mean, I think at the race world, the Falcon wins.
- 21:53There's the coolness factor there, the the cult classic side of it
- 21:56from just the car perspective.
- 21:57I'm sorry.
- 21:58The war rig doesn't have a coolness factor.
- 22:00No.
- 22:00You know why?
- 22:01Because Eric Bana makes the Falcon super cool when you watch the movie
- 22:06Love the Beast because he owns one of those XB gts and that just brings
- 22:11the, the wow factor to like 11.
- 22:13But Charise Theone actually owns a war.
- 22:15A war rig.
- 22:17If we're going by coolness.
- 22:18Wouldn't the real winner be the guy with the flame thrower guitar
- 22:20and the speakers behind him?
- 22:21Yes.
- 22:23Yes.
- 22:23Yeah, that's true.
- 22:24Giant speaker truck, that guy.
- 22:26Yeah.
- 22:26Mm-hmm.
- 22:26Guitar G wins for coolness.
- 22:32And see, I say that and you all know exactly who I'm talking about.
- 22:35Yeah.
- 22:36And then that same character ended up in that Jack Black video game
- 22:39that was all about like death metal.
- 22:41And they had vehicles like that.
- 22:43How do we run this race?
- 22:44Which is better.
- 22:45Well, I mean, the war rig gets its Academy Award nomination 'cause she
- 22:49sacrifices herself to save the others.
- 22:51So that's true.
- 22:54Best supporting actress.
- 22:55Best actor.
- 22:55Supporting actor.
- 22:55Yeah.
- 22:56But as movies go, they both, again, kind of have their place in history in a way.
- 23:01Because yeah, that that whole Mad Max trilogy had been untouched.
- 23:05And then we know that Mel Gibson became persona non grata.
- 23:09In Hollywood, like a lot of other people recently, and
- 23:11then they decided to redo it.
- 23:13It was a big wow factor there.
- 23:14So I'm wondering if maybe this is a draw.
- 23:16We'll say they're in different race classes or something, so Yeah.
- 23:20Yeah.
- 23:20It's, yeah, the wind has to go to the original because people still talk about
- 23:26the original people don't talk about Fury Road unless you bring up Fury Road.
- 23:30Um, that's a valid point.
- 23:31I bring it up every week.
- 23:33No, I was gonna say, somebody doesn't listen to very many movie podcasts
- 23:37or some, and somebody definitely didn't go to Comic-Con, you know, in
- 23:40the befall full time because there is tons of fur fan art out there.
- 23:45Are there a lot of war rig, uh, cosplays out there?
- 23:48Oh, that'd be great.
- 23:49Oh my God.
- 23:50I would, that's new Conga line.
- 23:51I mean, we have, we, we have Mad Max Furry Roads.
- 23:56Featuring osa.
- 23:58Whoa, that's a different con.
- 23:59On, on our wall.
- 24:01It is.
- 24:02Mad Max's cats with the war rig in the background.
- 24:05And next to that is our artwork.
- 24:07Clever Wives, where it's the war rig and all the wives have been
- 24:10replaced with Velociraptors.
- 24:12So they talk about Fury Road all the time.
- 24:15Yes.
- 24:16The rest of the world is like, what?
- 24:19Yeah, we and the cool cats talk about fear ruin nonstop, but no, so
- 24:24I'm thinking, I, I, I don't know.
- 24:25I we gotta, we gotta figure this out.
- 24:27I'm, I'm feeling like two points to the vintage Lane One and maybe
- 24:31one point to Lane two right now.
- 24:32Like the old movies are winning and we're competitive.
- 24:35We like to keep score.
- 24:36Yeah.
- 24:36Well, if Vanishing Point didn't win old or new, I mean that Death Proof won that
- 24:41races, but Death Proof is considered new.
- 24:44So we're putting that in lane two.
- 24:45Right.
- 24:46So that's one point for new, since we brought up the Majestics, Charlize Theron,
- 24:51why don't we just slip right into the dms?
- 24:54Love the Italians job.
- 24:56Woo.
- 24:57I love these movies.
- 24:59Yeah, they're both pretty good.
- 25:00Michael Kain and Marky Mark Marky.
- 25:02Marky the fucking Mo.
- 25:05And I've said it before and I said it on the episode with Brian, I was like,
- 25:08I have a soft spot for Michael Kane and it's gonna be one of those soul crushing
- 25:12moments when we get that notice that says, you know, Michael Kane has, has left us.
- 25:17Right.
- 25:17And, and that I had that same moment when Ron Williams passed
- 25:20and a couple other people.
- 25:21And I'm just like, oh God.
- 25:23Yeah, exactly.
- 25:24And you're just like, oh, it's like, it's just, it's earth shattering.
- 25:26Any Michael Kane movie for me gets mad props.
- 25:29I'm like, I think he's excellent in everything he's done.
- 25:31I haven't seen a bad movie yet.
- 25:32Even Alfie was, so Jaws revenge is your favorite Jaws movie.
- 25:35Hundred percent.
- 25:36Hundred percent.
- 25:37Anything with Michael Kane?
- 25:38I am on board, so, but the Marky Mark and the funky bunch version
- 25:43of the Italian job With what?
- 25:44Seth Green, Edward Norton, Jason Statham, Mo Death, and whoever
- 25:50that random guy they called Wrench.
- 25:52That was supposed to help out Handsome Rob.
- 25:54Like who was that dude?
- 25:55Right.
- 25:58But you know, I recently rewatched this film and it's
- 26:01got some definite replay value.
- 26:03Right.
- 26:04It's a lot of fun.
- 26:05That is a super fun one.
- 26:07It's a lot like gone in 60 seconds that way.
- 26:09Like maybe even a little more so just 'cause it's a little more,
- 26:12uh, a little more stylized I guess.
- 26:14I don't know.
- 26:14It's of its time.
- 26:16Yeah.
- 26:16Well, it's a little bit more James Bond, I feel.
- 26:18It's got this espionage feel to it versus like your classic
- 26:22Michael Kane film where it's like, all right guys, here's the plot.
- 26:26We're gonna go rob a bank and they rob, they rob a bank and
- 26:29that's the end of the movie.
- 26:29You know, you're like, all right, whatever.
- 26:31Yeah, it's a lot like Ocean's 11 kinda.
- 26:33Definitely exactly's 11 vibes.
- 26:35Yeah.
- 26:36It a heist movie.
- 26:38Yeah.
- 26:39One's a job movie and one's a heist movie.
- 26:42That's true.
- 26:43I did like, and I don't know if you guys picked up on this,
- 26:45'cause again, I recently rewatched this with kind of new eyes.
- 26:48All the little hints and little clues and little throwbacks to the original movie.
- 26:52One of the obvious ones, Charlize comes out in an original mini,
- 26:55which by the way was a classic mini, but a relatively new one.
- 26:58If you look at the interior, because they built those alongside.
- 27:02Of the next generation minis, right up until the early two thousands and whatnot.
- 27:06Okay.
- 27:06But there was some, also some other hints they talk about, oh, just like
- 27:09we did in the Italian job, you know, referencing, you know, not even
- 27:12just the beginning of the movie with Donald Sutherland and all that kind
- 27:15of stuff, but even the original movie.
- 27:16But one of 'em that got me, and you gotta pay really close attention.
- 27:19There's a scene where marking Mark and Seth Green are doing a like
- 27:24surveillance and they're looking across the street from another building
- 27:26into this guy's like apartment.
- 27:27And they're watching it and they're like, oh yeah, blah, blah, blah.
- 27:30And all this guy does it.
- 27:31He is like watching TV and on the screen is Michael Kane and you
- 27:35have to see it through the blind.
- 27:36So that's one of the other little kind of subtle, you know, nods
- 27:39back to the original movie.
- 27:40He's, yeah.
- 27:41And I thought it was super cool.
- 27:42So it's full of stuff like that.
- 27:43If you're really like, kind of nerd out on it, it's a, it's a lot of fun.
- 27:47Nice.
- 27:47Yeah, it is been a while since I've seen the original, but we watched the new one.
- 27:51What.
- 27:51A month or two ago.
- 27:53Yeah.
- 27:53I mean, yeah, it's a lot of fun.
- 27:55I can give it that.
- 27:55Super, super fun.
- 27:56And then in Hobbs and Shaw, they have an Italian job reference
- 28:01when they go into hiding.
- 28:02And Jason Statham has his, like his burner cars and there's a
- 28:06mini, and they mention like, yeah, it's for a job, just a little job.
- 28:11I will say in the original movie, the heist part of it and the whole,
- 28:15you know, the way they orchestrated the traffic lights and all that
- 28:18kind stuff, it was kind of cool.
- 28:19It was different.
- 28:20It was part of that, just the making of that film.
- 28:23The acting was what it was for the time and it was good.
- 28:25Michael Kane, sir Michael Kane, right?
- 28:27He always does a great job and I think there's two big moments.
- 28:30In that film, one is the chase scene itself, you know, through the tubes and
- 28:34they're rocking the car and doing, you know, running through the buildings and
- 28:37all that was super cool, but it wasn't overly exaggerated, like the cargo payload
- 28:41that they were moving in, those old Austin minis wasn't literally 2,700 pounds like
- 28:46they were trying to do in the new movies.
- 28:47So the realism was a little bit more acceptable, I think in the old film.
- 28:53For me it wasn't, you still have to suspend disbelief, but it wasn't
- 28:56like over the top exaggerated.
- 28:58The other big moment in that film is actually the end of the movie where you
- 29:02know, they're celebrating and then they, everybody's cheering and whatever, and
- 29:05then they turn the bus sideways and then they're hanging off the cliff and they
- 29:08literally leave you in a cliffhanger and you're like, okay, whatever.
- 29:11But in the second movie.
- 29:12There's just so many things where you're like, uh, really?
- 29:16I know I've driven those cars.
- 29:17I've instructed in those cars.
- 29:18They can't do that well, but they talk about how they retrofit 'em.
- 29:23Yeah, yeah.
- 29:23They do the throwaway line.
- 29:24Yeah.
- 29:25Suspension's been uploaded so we can load the 2,700 pounds.
- 29:28Yeah.
- 29:28You know, they had that little course.
- 29:29They've been, you know, practicing their drifting on and all that stuff.
- 29:33Yeah.
- 29:33Yeah.
- 29:33We upgraded, steering the suspension on these.
- 29:35They're not like your regular one.
- 29:36And, and then yeah, basically takes it to the realm of, okay, and now
- 29:40they're all bat mobiles or whatever.
- 29:41Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 29:43Exactly.
- 29:44Like, I like that trope.
- 29:45That's why I like the Fast and Furious movies.
- 29:47You have the one throwaway way line, like, don't worry about it.
- 29:49I modified it and then it's like, yeah, you have a fucking Batmobile now.
- 29:52And I, I bought a foot it, no, I got magnets.
- 29:56I like that trope in movies.
- 29:58And I love the trope where one character doesn't speak any English and
- 30:01everyone understands them perfectly.
- 30:03Those are two of my favorite tropes in movies.
- 30:05That was in the Fast and Furious too, right?
- 30:07The two dudes with the, the trash truck and I forget which.
- 30:09Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 30:10Which one it is.
- 30:11Uh, like Leo and Bragga or something.
- 30:13Exactly.
- 30:14Now I will say this, I have to give mad props to the sound
- 30:17engineers in the new movie.
- 30:19One of my major pet peeves with car films is them basically just
- 30:23regurgitating soundtracks from other cars and they don't mash up.
- 30:27And classically a. A lot of TV and film and I mentioned this on the episode with
- 30:31Brian, they tend to steal the sound of a nine 11, which is extremely distinct.
- 30:35Flat six has a weird sound.
- 30:38The one thing I gotta give to this movie is they actually used
- 30:41the sounds of a proper mini.
- 30:42You hear the supercharger wine, it's a four banger.
- 30:45Even the shots from the outside, it's got that raspiness to it.
- 30:48I'm like, cool.
- 30:49They did it right for a change.
- 30:50It's not like a Hemi V eight and we're looking at these little go-karts
- 30:53running around la Yeah, terrible.
- 30:57It drives me nuts like so I was, I get mad props Major points to this movie for that.
- 31:02We live on a mountain road and if somebody exhaust or muffler is loose,
- 31:08every car can sound like it's gotta VE It or Trash Truck, one or the other.
- 31:16Now, I am disappointed that they didn't make a sequel to this
- 31:19movie, and I had heard rumor.
- 31:21Of the title.
- 31:22Do you guys remember what that was?
- 31:23The French job?
- 31:24You'll like it.
- 31:24The Blow job?
- 31:26Yeah.
- 31:26The space job, the Brazilian job.
- 31:29Ooh,
- 31:33and that's a Fast and Furious Five.
- 31:35Yeah, fast five.
- 31:35The baseball.
- 31:36Yeah.
- 31:36That's just the end of Fast and Furious five.
- 31:38Exactly right.
- 31:39So it all comes full circle.
- 31:41It comes full circle.
- 31:42Jason states finally gotta go to Brazil.
- 31:46I'm thinking we got these two minis at the line revving their
- 31:49motors all, you know, less than 200 horsepower that they make combined.
- 31:53I think my vote goes to lane number two for the new movie because it's
- 31:56much more fun as a ton of replay value.
- 31:59You really have to be into old films to really like the original Italian job and
- 32:03watch a Michael Kane movie on repeat.
- 32:05So I'm thinking my vote goes there.
- 32:07What about you guys?
- 32:08Oh yeah, I'm for the second one.
- 32:09Again, I, I love the original one and I love that all the
- 32:12Easter eggs are in the remake.
- 32:15Like that makes the remake even better for me.
- 32:17But yeah, the second one.
- 32:19The second one's just got the high entertainment value.
- 32:22And imagine how fast thoses cars can go once you take all that gold out.
- 32:25Right?
- 32:27You could probably like drive up the side of a building or something,
- 32:29like they're gonna borrow 'em from the fast and furious universe.
- 32:33Yeah.
- 32:33Magnets maybe.
- 32:34Yes.
- 32:35To use a drag raising term, I think we could give lane number one, the
- 32:38vintage mini 15 in the kick and that new car is still gonna beat him.
- 32:43Either way.
- 32:43Well, he is got a broken axle,
- 32:47one wheel drive.
- 32:49Mm-hmm.
- 32:50Since we've been talking about both Michael Kane and Jason Saham,
- 32:54there's two movies that are, we're gonna kind of unpack here, which
- 32:57are also car adjacent movies.
- 32:59I think I just wanna start with yet another Michael Kane movie.
- 33:03And this one is a little different, but staying with the whole heist idea,
- 33:07gangsters, you know, all that kinda stuff.
- 33:09And that's Get Carter, I think this is a lesser known and underappreciated
- 33:14film and a lot of people don't realize there's actually a remake of this
- 33:17movie in 2000 with Slice Stallone.
- 33:21So pulling up to the line is both of the Get Carters.
- 33:24Hey guys.
- 33:25I'm gonna be honest, I haven't seen either.
- 33:27I didn't know Get Carter was a remake until like three years ago.
- 33:31Blasphemer Get Carter, like, it's not like Get Mustang or something.
- 33:37Like I didn't, all I knew about Get Carter was, yeah, there's
- 33:40a Stallone movie about it and I think he's a gangster or something.
- 33:44Like, I completely lost interest as.
- 33:47From the trailer, I had no idea it had anything to do with cars.
- 33:49Okay, hold on, hold on.
- 33:51I'm gonna nerd out for a moment.
- 33:52Get ready.
- 33:53You guys can come back in 10 minutes, take a pee break, whatever.
- 33:56But the original movie is based on a series of books, which are excellent.
- 34:01And so they made this original film with Michael Kane and Michael Kane
- 34:04is the good guy, gangster, right?
- 34:06His brother is killed.
- 34:07It's tied up into all this kind of stuff and he wants to exact revenge.
- 34:11So he goes on this, you know, 90 minute tirade of going
- 34:14after people and hunting down.
- 34:16Who the killer is and this whole kind of like the prisoner's way, who is
- 34:19number one and who do you work for?
- 34:21You know, that kind of like, just vibrato, right?
- 34:23Like all films of that era and especially European films, it ends tragically.
- 34:27So I don't wanna give away the ending.
- 34:29Put it this way.
- 34:30There are some really interesting car chase scenes in that movie.
- 34:33There's with some vintage British cars, you got a Sunbeam Alpine, you've
- 34:36got a Jaguar xj, and they're chasing around some stuff in a parking garage.
- 34:40It's kind of cool.
- 34:41And then I will spoil this part, spoiler alert that, uh, one of the characters,
- 34:46he knocks her off literally off of a pier and, uh, you know, takes out his revenge
- 34:51by keeping her locked in the trunk as the sunbeam sinks into a, into a lake.
- 34:56The interesting part about the new movie is it kind of
- 34:58took everybody's by surprise.
- 34:59Kind of like, you know, Stallone did Oscar.
- 35:02And you're like, what, what is this about?
- 35:04It's like clue, right?
- 35:05But kind of set to a musical, but not Tim, Tim Curry's in both of the films.
- 35:09And so it's the same premise.
- 35:11It's the same story, but it's, it's, it's much grittier, it's much
- 35:14darker, it's actually much more graphic and it gets your attention.
- 35:18But what nails you right away is the soundtrack.
- 35:21And most of the soundtrack is done by like Mint Royale.
- 35:24It's a lot of like techno and synth wave and stuff like that.
- 35:27And it really draws you in because it's, the soundtrack is designed
- 35:30to go with the action in the film.
- 35:32But what's really cool about this, and if you really nerd out on the film, you
- 35:37realize that Michael Kane is in the second movie and he plays the opposite role.
- 35:44The remake.
- 35:45Right.
- 35:46So that makes it super cool and it makes a tie in back to the original film.
- 35:50Awesome.
- 35:50Car Chase scenes in that movie.
- 35:52Slice Stallone is behind the wheel of a Cadillac, DTS, so it's a Deville and
- 35:56it's a Jaguar that he's being chased after just like in the original movie.
- 36:01So it's yet another tieback, yet another throwback to the original film.
- 36:05And unlike Vanishing Point where it's like, eh, okay, the
- 36:08acting's actually really good.
- 36:10The soundtrack is good.
- 36:11It keeps you engaged.
- 36:12I've showed it to a bunch of people and they're like, wow, I didn't even
- 36:14know this film, like was a thing.
- 36:17And then they get hooked For me, I, I really enjoy this and I think it's
- 36:20awesome and I can't recommend it.
- 36:22You know enough, the new one's streaming on Hulu, so we'll definitely have to
- 36:25check that out in uh, yeah, definitely.
- 36:27The old, the old one's on like Amazon for like four bucks, so.
- 36:30Exactly.
- 36:30But I gonna say, I think we have a third contender that's gonna pull up since
- 36:34we've mentioned Sylvester Stallone.
- 36:36Oh yeah.
- 36:36And vintage cars.
- 36:38One of our favorite Stallone movies with a spectacular car, Cobra.
- 36:44Oh, I knew you were going there.
- 36:47Mer.
- 36:47With the 50 Mercury Monterey, such a terribly bad good movie.
- 36:52It's the best movie where the main character cuts cold pizza.
- 36:56Eat pizza with scissors.
- 36:58I mean, it has all the same tropes as like commando and, and some of those
- 37:02other ones where it's like, you know, we have to save the damsel and distress, and
- 37:06you're like, oh God, here we go again.
- 37:08But it still has that Rambo flare to it, which I guess kept me engaged when
- 37:12I was younger, but rewatching it now.
- 37:14I don't know.
- 37:15It's kind of cringey.
- 37:16I could watch Get Carter all day long.
- 37:17I mean, like eyes wide shut, not so wide shut, uh, clockwork Orange style
- 37:21with my eyes, you know, glued open.
- 37:23I, I'd be okay with it.
- 37:25I think a Better Stallone car movie is Driven.
- 37:29Driven, yeah.
- 37:30Oh, Winnie Harland maybe.
- 37:33Can you hear me hitting my head on the table?
- 37:35Not, not the expendables, any of them.
- 37:37I was thinking you were going there, but Cobra was like my gut reaction,
- 37:41but I thought you were gonna go there.
- 37:41'cause he drives that whole Chevy pickup.
- 37:43We can't, we can't do expendables.
- 37:44They drive motorcycles and planes and that.
- 37:47He's always got the car at the very beginning and the very end.
- 37:49'cause he's gotta bring his personal car in.
- 37:51Oh yeah, that's right.
- 37:52That truck is super cool.
- 37:53I mean, oh, that truck is so good.
- 37:55I mean, it has more skulls than I usually go for in a vintage vehicle
- 38:02that was done by like guys at Gotham Works' Garage.
- 38:05I think they like, they love that stuff more than me.
- 38:07Like Hood emblem or the gear.
- 38:09And the gear shift.
- 38:10It's just asking to be pulled over.
- 38:11Right?
- 38:12A hundred percent.
- 38:13I mean, if you can catch it, I mean it's a profiling for a reason.
- 38:16What do we think, I mean, I know you guys aren't the experts on
- 38:18this movie, but based on the way I pitched and positioned this, do you
- 38:22think it's a draw between the two?
- 38:23Like they're both worth.
- 38:25Investigating and engaging.
- 38:26We'll just call it a zero.
- 38:27It's a no win for either side.
- 38:29Yeah, but they both sound great.
- 38:31I know.
- 38:31I haven't seen the second one or the, the remake.
- 38:33I genuinely don't remember if I've seen the first one or not.
- 38:37Yeah.
- 38:37Might be one of those like, wait, was that, am I thinking Italian job or
- 38:40am I thinking get Carter or Right.
- 38:42Or Mr. Brown or Dirty Rotten Sund drills could be anything that's true.
- 38:46Jaws four phi, you know, whatever.
- 38:51I thought that movie was about an alpha, a male, and I was severely
- 38:54disappointed when I watched it, but, you know, hey, whatever.
- 39:00Yeah, I, I would call it a draw.
- 39:02We're good.
- 39:02So we're tied Two.
- 39:03Two.
- 39:03New versus old.
- 39:04I'm okay with that.
- 39:05We mentioned Jason Statham, and he's been in a ton of car movies.
- 39:09I mean, you name dropped Fast and Furious, Hobbes and Shaw.
- 39:12I mean, we gotta say the transporter, especially the original one, right?
- 39:15Oh, yeah.
- 39:16Expendables.
- 39:17Exactly.
- 39:17I mean, knives are faster than guns.
- 39:20We all know that, right?
- 39:21Yeah.
- 39:22Yeah.
- 39:23They say bring a knife to a gunfight.
- 39:25Duh.
- 39:25That's a cliche for a reason.
- 39:27One of my favorite scenes in that movie was literally that scene where he is like,
- 39:31let's go, you know, there's all these guys, all the terrorists standing around.
- 39:34They're like, what are, what are they arguing about?
- 39:36And then bullets and knives start flying.
- 39:38It's fantastic.
- 39:40And Dolf, lre iss just epic too.
- 39:42I mean, come on.
- 39:42You know he's spectacular.
- 39:44Yeah.
- 39:44And then in the sequels, when they talk about like what happened to him, drugs.
- 39:49He used to be a rocket scientist.
- 39:51You know he is actually a chemical engineer.
- 39:55Oh yeah.
- 39:55Yeah.
- 39:56Oh yeah.
- 39:56Oh, it's a coolest thing.
- 39:57You chemical engineer that Grace Jones went, Hey, that guy's really good looking.
- 40:00You wanna come with me and be in a movie?
- 40:01And then from there, his first movie, James Bond View to a Kill.
- 40:06We could segue for a moment and talk about James Bond, the best
- 40:09James Bond movie View to a Kill.
- 40:12I have said this on other podcast.
- 40:14It is the essential oil of James Bond movies.
- 40:16It is Every James Bond trope distilled down into its purest form.
- 40:21You don't have to like it, but that is the most James Bond movie that exists.
- 40:26One of Connery's last ones, right.
- 40:28No, that's Roger Moore's last.
- 40:30Oh, Roger.
- 40:30That's where I thought, okay.
- 40:31Okay.
- 40:31Yeah.
- 40:32Is he the best bond?
- 40:34No.
- 40:34Oh.
- 40:35I mean, I like your, we've had debates though.
- 40:39I, I don't think so.
- 40:39I, I think he's the best.
- 40:40Roger Moore.
- 40:46I mean, there's Roger Moore than it's like, yeah, it's Roger Moore, EE.
- 40:49Even when he's playing like a Nazi soldier and escape from Athena,
- 40:53it's like, yeah, that's Roger Moore.
- 40:54You're not Yeah.
- 40:54A hundred percent right.
- 40:55Or he's in, uh, what was the, the Spice Girls movie?
- 40:57Spice World.
- 40:58Right?
- 40:58It's still Roger Moore, right?
- 41:00Yeah.
- 41:00That, here's my argument.
- 41:01Pierce Brosnan is the best James Bond.
- 41:04He's the epitome of James Bond with the worst scripts I give you that, and Timothy
- 41:10Dalton had the best premise and the worst.
- 41:13Time is bonds, right?
- 41:14Yeah.
- 41:15And I'm not gonna lie, I like Lazenbys.
- 41:17I think that we should have given Lazenby more.
- 41:19Yeah.
- 41:19Did you see the documentary on him?
- 41:21I haven't seen that yet.
- 41:22Oh.
- 41:22There's a mockumentary called like The Man Who Would Be Bond
- 41:26because he only did one Bond movie.
- 41:27Right.
- 41:27And it's, it's Epic Man, Connery come back.
- 41:30Yeah.
- 41:30And he's, he's so funny.
- 41:32And it's one of those mockumentaries, much like framing John DeLorean, where
- 41:34they brought in actual actors to play out the scenes as he's describing 'em.
- 41:38And I was literally in tears.
- 41:40It is so funny.
- 41:42And he tells it just so nonchalantly, and there's some very touching moments,
- 41:45like throughout the mockumentary, but if you have not seen it, it
- 41:47was on Hulu for like forever.
- 41:49You definitely gotta check it out.
- 41:51We And who would be Bond.
- 41:52All right.
- 41:53Gotcha.
- 41:53We're adding it to the list.
- 41:54I've just given you like 12 more episodes now, but oh, for July, we
- 41:59are doing the oh oh seventh month.
- 42:01This is our second year in a row doing it.
- 42:03Uh, the premise of our podcast is, uh, bad movies.
- 42:06We are going through, uh, the ones people generally don't love and
- 42:11justifying why, really they're all great.
- 42:15Can I tell you what my favorite Bond movie is?
- 42:17Of course.
- 42:18Never say never again.
- 42:21Coming in this next month.
- 42:22Ah, keep your holes open.
- 42:24It's coming.
- 42:25Can I tell you another little bit of trivia?
- 42:28Oh.
- 42:28So as you guys know, Barbara Carrera, the mother of Tia Carrera, she is,
- 42:32uh, Fatima Blush in that movie, right?
- 42:34Yeah.
- 42:34And do you remember she, in that movie, there's a chase
- 42:36scene between Sean Connery.
- 42:38'cause that was the movie he came back for in the eighties to be in, and he's chasing
- 42:42her on a BMW motorcycle with all these, you know, trick gizmos that Q puts are
- 42:46on there and all that kind of fun stuff.
- 42:47Yeah, the gadget.
- 42:48So that little red car in that movie, it's a French sports car, right?
- 42:53Homologated rally car.
- 42:54It's known as the Renault Turbo Two, right?
- 42:57Mm-hmm.
- 42:57It, it's actually mid-engine and it's actually very quirky and very French,
- 43:01and I got an opportunity to drive one and write a review on that car.
- 43:05It holds status with a few other cars that I've said many times.
- 43:09Never drive your heroes.
- 43:12And if you wanna learn more about that experience, read the article,
- 43:15visit our website, but I, I got an opportunity to drive one of those cars
- 43:18and it, it, it was very interesting.
- 43:20I'll put it that way.
- 43:21Oh ha.
- 43:21It opens up with.
- 43:23It's not a eo.
- 43:24Wait,
- 43:27we were talking about Statham, right?
- 43:29And we got a little bit sidetracked about Bond, I think.
- 43:31Yeah, that's right.
- 43:31To kind of wrap up the whole bond, you know, discussion there.
- 43:34I think if we lined up all the bond mobiles and drag race them, it would be
- 43:38a hard tie between the original DB five that Sean Connery had and probably one of
- 43:43the later DBSs that Daniel Craig drove.
- 43:46What do you, what do you think Brad Craig is my favorite bond?
- 43:48Hmm.
- 43:51Obviously the Craig cars for sure.
- 43:53It wasn't the underwater.
- 43:54Yeah, he, he's super into the, uh, the Ford Hybrid that they drive
- 43:57through the desert, not Guam soles.
- 43:59Oh God, that Ford Flex or whatever.
- 44:02Yeah, the underwater lotus from octopus.
- 44:05You know, that's, that's another great car.
- 44:07Now we're talking.
- 44:08No, I actually, I do, my, my favorite bond car is actually the Z eight.
- 44:13That was cool.
- 44:14And they made a handful of those things, and they're gorgeous.
- 44:17They are.
- 44:18I've, I've had, I've had the pleasure of seeing a couple in,
- 44:20you know, in person and they're just, they're stunning to look at.
- 44:24I hear they're terrible to drive, but they're stunning to look at.
- 44:26They're also made of unobtainium and that's their price on
- 44:28Bring a trailer these days too.
- 44:30So that's everything's price on bring a trailer.
- 44:32The, uh, moon buggie from diamonds are forever.
- 44:35That's that's my, yeah.
- 44:36Yeah.
- 44:36I forgot about that.
- 44:37He's pretty good.
- 44:40Maybe I'm confusing Fast.
- 44:41And the Furious with bond.
- 44:42No, there was a bond one where they had wings and he flew over a boat, right?
- 44:47Oh yeah.
- 44:47He has the, the little gyro copter, the, um, yeah, yeah.
- 44:50The, so what they call the little something.
- 44:53Yeah.
- 44:53Uh, yeah.
- 44:54I'm gonna look it up.
- 44:55Um, is it, you only live twice?
- 44:57It was the Japanese.
- 44:58Yeah, yeah.
- 44:58The Japan lived twice.
- 44:59Japan.
- 44:59That's right.
- 45:00Japan.
- 45:00Yeah.
- 45:00But I remember the fun fact about it.
- 45:01It was like, like the Little Eddie or little Edith or something.
- 45:04Yeah.
- 45:05And they made that, it was a, a one person, basically a bicycle helicopter.
- 45:10They made it for the movie.
- 45:13And like British intelligence and US intelligence got a hold
- 45:17of the prop guy who made it, said, does that actually work?
- 45:20And he said, yeah, it really works.
- 45:21And they were like, you have to make these for us.
- 45:23And he made them for them, and they made their own versions
- 45:25of stealth things out of it.
- 45:27So that was one that started as a prop and became a real vehicle.
- 45:31Look at that trivia.
- 45:32It's, it's everywhere.
- 45:34Yeah.
- 45:35What facts.
- 45:36So since we've done a couple, uh, donuts there, now we're gonna
- 45:39talk about Statham again, right?
- 45:41Yeah.
- 45:42I am down to talk about statham.
- 45:44Circling, circling back just like Nicholas Cage.
- 45:47He's circling back.
- 45:49Let's go with Death Race, 1975, David Carradine versus 2008 Jason Statham.
- 45:55What do we think?
- 45:56That's really hard.
- 45:57I have a huge crush on Jason Statham.
- 46:00Mr. Statham, I know you're listening.
- 46:01Uh, go ahead and hit us up on everything I learned from movies.
- 46:03We'd love to interview you because I know he listens to this.
- 46:07Well, they could call right now, but the original death race is so spectacular.
- 46:12Steve and I had the opportunity in the before four times to
- 46:15host a screening of the original death race at our local theater.
- 46:19That is spectacular on the big screen, by the way, guys.
- 46:22It's great.
- 46:23Low budget in the seventies, like a million dollars or whatever.
- 46:26But it's like great satire, but also mixed in with some
- 46:29pretty cool car stunts and Yeah.
- 46:31You know, obviously over the top design kind like even like Prem Mad
- 46:34Max where it's more like just the crazy zany, kinda like plaster bodies.
- 46:40Yeah.
- 46:40Yeah.
- 46:41Like just silly fiberglass bodies.
- 46:42Yeah, fiberglass.
- 46:43That's it.
- 46:43But some really good, yeah, he said really good stunt driving.
- 46:46Steve's possibly favorite joke in all a moviedom.
- 46:49It's a hand grenade.
- 46:50Ugh.
- 46:51It catches me every time too.
- 46:54Just when he pulls it out and it's like, oh God.
- 46:56That's right.
- 46:58I like the carmageddon style sequence where they're at, like the old
- 47:02folks home and they're like wheeling 'em out in the wheelchairs and the
- 47:04numbers start popping up and stuff.
- 47:06Like we're what?
- 47:06We're in Pacman or something.
- 47:07It's craziness.
- 47:08Oh, they wheel out the old folks and then Carradine goes for the nurse instead.
- 47:13Yeah.
- 47:13Points.
- 47:16So it's been a while since I've seen the 2008 one though.
- 47:18Like what?
- 47:18Obviously you've seen it directed by Paul WS Anderson before, like exclusively
- 47:23made, uh, resident evil movies and stuff.
- 47:27But I've also seen like all the sequels that starred like Dominic
- 47:31Purcell and uh, what, what was it, 2050 that came out a couple years ago.
- 47:35Oh yeah.
- 47:35With a bunch of the background guys from Fury Road.
- 47:39Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 47:41So you're, you're talking about the new Death race, right?
- 47:43Yeah, yeah.
- 47:43The new the, yeah, the new.
- 47:45Yeah.
- 47:45And I've, I've seen, seen exactly.
- 47:47I've seen those too.
- 47:48And they're prequels to the Jason Statham movie, which makes 'em a trilogy
- 47:51because it tells the story of what's his name, Frankenstein or, or whatever.
- 47:55Yeah.
- 47:55Yeah.
- 47:56I, I really enjoyed them.
- 47:58And it actually, for the audience, if you haven't seen those prequels,
- 48:02those directed DVD or probably VHS or Blockbuster, you can pick it up tomorrow.
- 48:07I, I recommend it.
- 48:09I mean, they're totally the one blockbuster that's left in the us.
- 48:11I, I mean, I totally recommend them.
- 48:13They're super cool because it does fill in the backstory into that almost comic like
- 48:17world that was created around death race.
- 48:20Oh.
- 48:20Have you guys seen Doomsday?
- 48:22Superman tubes?
- 48:23No.
- 48:23Okay.
- 48:24Uh, so around, yeah, around the same time, like 2008, 2009, maybe 2010, director
- 48:29Neil Marshall, who did like the descent and like some of the better episodes
- 48:32of Game of Thrones and stuff like that.
- 48:34Okay.
- 48:34And then Hellboy, but he did this movie called Doomsday.
- 48:38And if you like Mad Max and like the Death Race 2000, or you know, the Death
- 48:43Race with, uh, Jason Statham, I would highly recommend you check out Doomsday.
- 48:46'cause it, it's like mad.
- 48:47Super fun Max.
- 48:48Without the The trademark.
- 48:50Yeah, I think I've seen Doomsday.
- 48:52That's the one where they end up in the world of Excalibur and the Yes.
- 48:57The middle.
- 48:58Yeah.
- 48:58Okay.
- 48:58Medieval Times or what?
- 48:59Wait, I thought that was time.
- 49:00I thought that was timeline with Paul Walker.
- 49:02Paul Walker, yeah.
- 49:03Yeah.
- 49:04Timeline.
- 49:06I don't end up in 13th century France because they time travel using mirrors.
- 49:11Nope.
- 49:11That's a different movie.
- 49:12Dude.
- 49:13That book, I'm a huge Creighton fan.
- 49:15The book is fantastic.
- 49:16The movie that is one of the best books.
- 49:17The books.
- 49:17Books are always great.
- 49:18That's why Michael Creighton doesn't let him make movies from him anymore.
- 49:21You guys keep fucking it up.
- 49:23Well, he's also dead, so that doesn't help either.
- 49:26I'm sorry.
- 49:26His estate, it's no sphere.
- 49:28Don't worry, they're nocturnal.
- 49:30They're only poisonous at night.
- 49:32That's not what that means.
- 49:32Alright.
- 49:33Alright.
- 49:33I'm gonna, I'm gonna say it again because I've said it a million times before.
- 49:36Westworld is amazing.
- 49:38Inspired by Creighton in the original movie Y Brenner and all
- 49:42that, but still the New West World.
- 49:43Fantastic.
- 49:45I mean, it's no runaway, but yeah.
- 49:48What can be, oh, if you guys have not seen Runaway.
- 49:53Oh, so yeah.
- 49:54Death Race.
- 49:54No.
- 49:56So circling back to death race, I mean, so many circles.
- 49:59They're hard.
- 50:00Yeah, we're, we're just doing donuts now.
- 50:02It's like, you know, it's like Drift.
- 50:03It's a drift course not a drag race anymore.
- 50:05But I think the first movie kind of like Vanishing Point, so the other
- 50:08ones, it holds a place in cinematic history because it was so different.
- 50:12It was so new.
- 50:13You, it Campy is all get out, but in the same way as the gumball run.
- 50:17Right.
- 50:17And so like Raul Julio is in that and, and some other films that were like car
- 50:21related where it's like on these epic journeys and all that kind of thing.
- 50:25World.
- 50:25Yeah, exactly.
- 50:27Death Race is like Water World meets Mad Max meets like a bunch of
- 50:31other stuff And it, I thought it was fun though, and I will rewatch it.
- 50:36I think what's cool about it, unlike the scene in the Italian
- 50:39job with Statham, where you know, the guy wrench comes to help him.
- 50:43And I laughed when I saw that again and I'm like, who is this clown?
- 50:46Because in my mind that same scene was played out in Death
- 50:49Race and it was machete instead.
- 50:52Right.
- 50:52And you're like, eh,
- 50:55you know, it's stuff like that is what made.
- 50:57Death race the new one for me because it added that extra level of grit
- 51:01that it just, it just needed to get it beyond like, this is just kind
- 51:05of dumb and video game, like where it became fun and re watchable and
- 51:08something you could just throw on your iPad on an airplane and go, we're
- 51:11gonna kill it for the next two hours.
- 51:13Literally kill it.
- 51:14'cause that's what they do in that movie.
- 51:17It's in the title A board game, an unofficial board game for death race.
- 51:21And it's super fun.
- 51:22Is this like the jump to conclusions game in office space?
- 51:25Like what are we doing now?
- 51:27I don't know.
- 51:27It's a real one.
- 51:27I don't know.
- 51:28It's a, it's a real, it's a real game.
- 51:29And what, like there?
- 51:31Yeah.
- 51:31So it's a board game.
- 51:32It's sort of set up like the game of life.
- 51:34Like you got the little road you go down.
- 51:35Oh, so it's the sequel to ra.
- 51:38I got it totally set up.
- 51:40Like little different people.
- 51:41There's the kids, there's the old folks, there's the women, there's the men.
- 51:45You get different points if you can land on their square and hit 'em.
- 51:48I like this.
- 51:49I gotta find this.
- 51:50It's pretty fun.
- 51:53I mean, I get, my daughters would get the concept of just ramming
- 51:56into the people with matchbox cars.
- 51:57But
- 52:00yeah, same with the, the death race is the, the old one's the classic,
- 52:04but really love the old ones so much.
- 52:07I love the camp value.
- 52:08The old one's got Carradine, it's got Sly Stallone, it's got other people in it.
- 52:12The new one, if you took out Jason Statham and replaced him with.
- 52:17Nicholas Cage, would it be just as good?
- 52:20Oh, no, no, no, no.
- 52:21Statham is great.
- 52:22Statham iss great.
- 52:23Statham can stay.
- 52:24I guess what I'm getting at is if you replace the draw of the Statham,
- 52:28the sexiness and the appeal, and the British accent, is the movie as good?
- 52:32Is it still a rose by any other name?
- 52:35Oh, does that sexiness bring you in?
- 52:38Yeah.
- 52:39Yes, it brings all the boys to the yard.
- 52:41All right, moving on.
- 52:43Yeah, I, I, I'd rather watch state than David Carradine.
- 52:46I'll put a, I got you.
- 52:48I got you.
- 52:48I'll go with the new one.
- 52:49I'll go with the new one.
- 52:50All right.
- 52:50I think I put my points in lane two.
- 52:52What about you, Brad?
- 52:53The new one for sure.
- 52:54So, so this now puts the new movies one up on the vintage ones.
- 52:58Ooh.
- 52:59Hmm hmm.
- 53:00We gotta switch gears a little bit.
- 53:03We're not gonna split our car in two or in half, or run the rear end, past
- 53:07the front end like they did in Herbie.
- 53:10And there have been many sequels to the Herbie franchise.
- 53:14Many.
- 53:15So pulling up to the line in lane number one is a 1963 WW Beetle and in lane
- 53:22number two as a drunken Lindsay Lohan.
- 53:24So it's Lane one.
- 53:27Let's move on.
- 53:31Although friend of the podcast, Dana Gould star in one of those Herbie
- 53:34sequels in the nineties I think So.
- 53:36We all fall on hard times, Steve.
- 53:38Yeah, right.
- 53:38You gotta pick some money.
- 53:39Everybody's gotta keep their side card up.
- 53:43I mean, you're right.
- 53:431968, Dean Jones, I mean the original Love Bug and, and the Herbie movies.
- 53:48I am a big fan of Herbie Ghost of Monte Carlo.
- 53:50I just, whatever.
- 53:52I love that movie.
- 53:52I think it's fantastic.
- 53:54The new one, you know, for Herbie, fully Loaded, supposed
- 53:56to pay homage to the original.
- 53:59As much as I love Michael Keaton, and I'm gonna say it again, he
- 54:01needs to do Batman Beyond before he, he passes away at some point.
- 54:05Yes, yes.
- 54:06Right as Bruce Wayne, he just needs to do it.
- 54:09Yes.
- 54:09Oh my God.
- 54:09I've been screaming this on our podcast for years.
- 54:12I'm so happy to hear somebody else echo it.
- 54:14I posted it on Brian's Take two universe page on Facebook.
- 54:17Go back and check it out.
- 54:18I found a picture of Michael Keaton where they grade him and put him in a
- 54:22wheelchair on an episode of Frazier.
- 54:24He was playing a conman and I snapped it and I said, boom.
- 54:28Living proof.
- 54:28Michael Keaton can do elderly.
- 54:31Bruce Wayne in Batman Beyond.
- 54:32Let's get it done.
- 54:33I put it out in the universe.
- 54:34We'll get a Elaine Moosey to play night Wing.
- 54:37Oh, that's great.
- 54:37Come on.
- 54:37Doesn't really get your shit together.
- 54:39Alright, we're gonna talk Volkswagens again for a minute.
- 54:42Oh yeah, yeah.
- 54:43So Michael Keaton mad props.
- 54:45The man is invincible in my mind.
- 54:47He is Batman.
- 54:48He is a lot of things.
- 54:49Birdman, not so much, but Batman.
- 54:51Yes.
- 54:52Lindsay Lohan, eh.
- 54:54We could have replaced her with anybody else.
- 54:55The whole cast of descendants would've been better than
- 54:57Lindsay Lohan in that movie.
- 54:59But there's a third Love Bug movie that a lot of people forget and it stars
- 55:03yet another one of my childhood heroes.
- 55:07Do we know who it is?
- 55:08Is it The Chin?
- 55:09The Chin, the Bruce?
- 55:12My name is Bruce Campbell and he starred in another remake in the late nineties.
- 55:19And if you haven't seen this film, have you guys seen this film?
- 55:23Yes.
- 55:23I was in middle school when this came out.
- 55:25So I was still enough of a kid that I was in the target demographic.
- 55:28Do you remember the importance of this movie?
- 55:31No.
- 55:31'cause I ha don't think I have seen it since it came out.
- 55:34Alright, Steve, do you know why this movie's important?
- 55:37No, there's two big reasons.
- 55:39Well, three.
- 55:40Number one, Bruce Campbell's in it.
- 55:41Number two.
- 55:43Dean Jones cameos in the film, and it's supposed to be the Herbie,
- 55:48the original Herbie in that movie.
- 55:50And three, it is the only Herbie film that actually depicts and tells us
- 55:57Herbie's origin story, the entire paranormal background of Herbie.
- 56:01So we get the inside view into all that.
- 56:04And if there's a three B, they also take a totally Michael Knight
- 56:09spin on this and develop the car.
- 56:11You know, there was Kit and there was Car, the bad version of Herbie.
- 56:13There is a bad version of Herbie in this movie as well, which makes
- 56:16it delightful and entertaining and a complete waste of 90 minutes.
- 56:19But getting that origin story is epic, and it brings a lot of closure
- 56:25to people going like, okay, I get it.
- 56:26It's Disney, you know, fairy magic and all that stuff.
- 56:29Why a car?
- 56:30Why?
- 56:30And so when you watch that film, then you get that big reveal.
- 56:34Speaking of Big Reveal, do you know who directed that movie?
- 56:37The The Love Bug with Bruce Campbell apparently was Peyton Reed, the
- 56:40director of Ant Man, and like several episodes of The Mandalorian and Mr
- 56:45Show with Bob and Dave and Oh yeah, it was like one of his first movies.
- 56:48It looks like he holds that in high regard, I'm sure, and I'm sure, yeah,
- 56:52yeah, just near the top of the resume.
- 56:55Even Disney forgot that it was in the vault.
- 56:57They were like, man, this movie's tragic.
- 57:01Hey, there's a bunch of movies they forgot in the vault.
- 57:03Do you know how hard it is to find the devil in Max Devlin?
- 57:05Is it with you and me and Kwan G?
- 57:07Because I want to talk about, my name is Bruce.
- 57:11But seriously let, since you brought up the chin, you know him
- 57:14and Jay Leno being a big car guy.
- 57:16I mean, they are number one and number two for putting him in lane one and Lane two.
- 57:20Bruce Campbell versus Jay Leno.
- 57:21Which chin wins the drag race?
- 57:24Who's Jay Leno By a chin?
- 57:26No, no, no.
- 57:27It's gonna be Bruce Campbell.
- 57:28'cause Jay Leno's gonna get distracted and go drive off down
- 57:31like the PCH for hours at a time Car.
- 57:36Or a turbine or something ridiculous.
- 57:40But Bruce is gonna get stopped by Evil Dead and Zombies and well that,
- 57:44and he drives a four speed Tercel that only runs on three cylinders.
- 57:47It's not getting very far.
- 57:50And the man's made a whopping 5,000 bucks in his cover here.
- 57:53Right?
- 57:54So it's a, it's a, it's a three banger Tercel versus a Stanley Steamer.
- 58:03So Bruce, my man, Bruce.
- 58:05If there's any ho one you're voting for, we get it.
- 58:08No, no.
- 58:08I want, I wanna segue for a moment like we did with Bond, right?
- 58:11Where we're gonna put Bruce on a segue and it's gonna be fantastic.
- 58:14Briscoe County Junior himself.
- 58:16Ah, I think he wrote a segue in, burned it or see he just got a boner.
- 58:21Think he just came.
- 58:22Briscoe County Junior.
- 58:23Oh, oh God.
- 58:26If you had only said jack of all trades, it would've been over burn notice.
- 58:31Sidekick Sam Ax for the win.
- 58:34So that brings me to the point of what I was getting at here.
- 58:37What's the best Bruce Campbell movie?
- 58:39Oh, Congo.
- 58:41He is pretty good in his five minutes in Calgo, his one day of
- 58:45shooting, was it when he played autologous in Zeno Warrior Princess.
- 58:51Oh, that's right.
- 58:52He was in that.
- 58:53Yeah, he was.
- 58:58Baba Hot.
- 59:00Oh, that Pustule got its own credit.
- 59:03How the hell do you make the Mummy worse?
- 59:06Baba eb.
- 59:08They're so bad, but they're so excellent.
- 59:11Every one of them.
- 59:12So much charisma that it is fun to watch him in movies that would
- 59:16be completely unwatchable with almost anybody else in that role.
- 59:20Absolutely.
- 59:21And he could reprise the role of Errol Flynn whenever he feels like it.
- 59:24That's that's, oh yeah.
- 59:25Yeah.
- 59:25Uh, I kinda liked his role in Dark Man.
- 59:27Oh, there's another MO with Arnold Volu going back to The Mummy.
- 59:31Yeah, that's a poll right there.
- 59:34Nice job.
- 59:35Like, I don't think a lot of people know that.
- 59:37That's doesn't say a word does.
- 59:38He just kind of shows up at the end.
- 59:39Yep.
- 59:39That's my new face.
- 59:40Now with Herbie, it goes to the original right?
- 59:45Whether it's Bruce Campbell or not, I think it goes to the original.
- 59:47So we're tied once again, three.
- 59:49Three here.
- 59:50So I'm gonna pull one out from underneath a rock.
- 59:53And many people don't realize that the Fast and the Furious is
- 59:57actually a remake of a nightmare.
- 59:59Oh, that Roger Corman Baby 1954.
- 1:00:02Yes.
- 1:00:02John Ireland and Dorothy Malone starring in the Fast and the Furious, and they
- 1:00:07have nothing to do with one another other than the fact, the fact that there's
- 1:00:10scars, they're cutting towards Mexico.
- 1:00:12Yeah, nothing gets airborne or explodes in the original film.
- 1:00:15There is no danger to manifold and the paint schemes are quite bland.
- 1:00:19How many shifts?
- 1:00:20Four Speed.
- 1:00:20That's pretty much it.
- 1:00:22Yeah.
- 1:00:22I can't even tell you what the car is.
- 1:00:23It's such an unmemorable film and I have it in my collection, the original
- 1:00:27Fast and Furious and then Fast and the Furious, and then, you know, the
- 1:00:3019 other films that came after that.
- 1:00:32And that's pretty much it.
- 1:00:33All right.
- 1:00:34Sorry, I looked it up for, uh, fast and Furious 1954.
- 1:00:37It's a Jaguar XK one 20.
- 1:00:40Oh yeah.
- 1:00:41Okay.
- 1:00:41That's right.
- 1:00:42Donated by a local Jaguar dealer.
- 1:00:45And it didn't run, uh, well, apparently they had to pull it with a Chevy.
- 1:00:49Apparently Corman set up a deal that he was going to borrow them,
- 1:00:52but they couldn't crash any of them, and none of them were able
- 1:00:55to be returned to the dealership.
- 1:00:56Interesting.
- 1:00:57Even back then, look at that.
- 1:00:59But I think in this case, the new one definitely crushes the old one.
- 1:01:02So I think, I think for the, the sake of this argument, we get rid of the 1954
- 1:01:07Fast and Furious It grandma drives to the track to sit on the sidelines and
- 1:01:11watch the rest of the young kids race.
- 1:01:13Okay.
- 1:01:13So now we need to figure out which of the Fast and Furious, you know, saga is
- 1:01:18the better, is the best film I, I think.
- 1:01:20All right.
- 1:01:21All right, all right.
- 1:01:21Hold on, hold on.
- 1:01:22We're not gonna talk about chronology, we're not gonna talk about plot
- 1:01:25holes that you can literally drive aircraft carriers through.
- 1:01:27Do we count five and six as one movie?
- 1:01:30Two parts to the same movie.
- 1:01:31Wait, fast Five and Fast Six.
- 1:01:33Yeah, they're two.
- 1:01:34They're two parts.
- 1:01:35They're part A and part B. Okay.
- 1:01:36Here, here's, here's the thing.
- 1:01:38Like based on the uh, timeframe, like between movies and stuff, the
- 1:01:42eight movies or whatever that have happened so far, hasn't it been
- 1:01:45over the course of like three years?
- 1:01:47I think it's been like two weeks.
- 1:01:48Timeline.
- 1:01:49Weeks.
- 1:01:50Like shouldn't Dom's Kid be like in the sixth grade or something by
- 1:01:53now or it's like an episode of 24.
- 1:01:55That's what you don't realize.
- 1:01:57Yeah.
- 1:01:57Yeah.
- 1:01:57Basically, if we are gonna pit Fast and Furious movies against each
- 1:02:01other, the reason I wanna bundle five and six together because they
- 1:02:03really are one big four hour movie.
- 1:02:06'cause that's the, the sequence I would pit against any of the other films,
- 1:02:10whether it be the original one, Tokyo Drift Fast and Furious Four, that's
- 1:02:14got two flat tires and a busted turbo that's on the side of the, the track.
- 1:02:18It's not even running, but even the newer ones, right, I'm thinking five
- 1:02:21and six together because I can't put five and six against one another.
- 1:02:25You know what I mean?
- 1:02:25But what would you put up against that movie or movies?
- 1:02:28Well, everyone knows Hobbes and Shaw is the best ho the one, but
- 1:02:30Hobbs, far as hos the best one.
- 1:02:31Like driving one far, the cars Hobb and oh, I think it was seven that had, uh,
- 1:02:35the bad guys had the, those cars that were like the basically like indie cars
- 1:02:40or whatever, but they, you know, death proofed out or whatever and mm-hmm.
- 1:02:44I don't know, some sort of jet engines.
- 1:02:47Slash magnets.
- 1:02:48I don't know what, but that made 'em like invincible.
- 1:02:51We gotta remember too, that this franchise starts out with, uh, a
- 1:02:54brother and sister who own a sandwich shop and drag race on the weekends,
- 1:02:59also fund their sandwich shop by stealing zoo players out of the back of
- 1:03:05semi-truck driven by Hercules himself.
- 1:03:08That's right.
- 1:03:08Kevin Zerbo.
- 1:03:09Kevin Zobo drives the, uh, the big rig.
- 1:03:11I also wanna throw out there with the, the adding of the rock and Jason Statham
- 1:03:17to the Fast and Furious universe, Steve and I discovered any Easter rig.
- 1:03:22Ooh.
- 1:03:22That we don't know if they're gonna fully cash in on, but they've
- 1:03:25already started to, in Tokyo.
- 1:03:27Drift Han is not dead.
- 1:03:29Ha's not dead, but, but it gets better than that in Tokyo Drift.
- 1:03:32When they have the last race against the Yakuza.
- 1:03:34When Sonny Chiba iss gonna kill everybody if they don't win the race,
- 1:03:39which is already amazing in itself.
- 1:03:41Twinkie little Bow Wow.
- 1:03:43Is live streaming the race on his flip phone because
- 1:03:46Japan, they're in the future.
- 1:03:47Why not?
- 1:03:48And he says to his phone, yo Uncle Deck, check this out.
- 1:03:52Then they bring in a character named Deckard Shaw, who we find out from Hobbes.
- 1:03:57And Shaw was basically brothers with Idris Elba, who supposedly died a few years ago.
- 1:04:05'cause Jason Statham had to put him down.
- 1:04:08So is Uncle Deck Deckard Shaw is Bow Wow.
- 1:04:12To Bow Wow.
- 1:04:13And that's how they're gonna bring him back into, I don't know, fast.
- 1:04:1610 fast in space is is bow wow in the Japanese international,
- 1:04:20uh, prep school because his dad died in the line of service.
- 1:04:25You guys have just blown my mind in like the whole NBC,
- 1:04:30the more you know sort of way.
- 1:04:32I'm like, holy smokes.
- 1:04:34And you guys can go back and rewatch it.
- 1:04:36We have replayed that scene so many times.
- 1:04:38We wore a DVD out, I'm pretty sure, because we wanna make sure we heard what
- 1:04:42we heard and I'm, we heard what we heard.
- 1:04:46I mean, that's like me watching, my name is Bruce and pausing when they go to
- 1:04:49the trailer full of his stuff and I'm playing, I spy, you know, inside the room
- 1:04:53to figure out which show is in there.
- 1:04:55Wow.
- 1:04:55No, I am, my mind is blown.
- 1:04:57I'm my, my valves are bent and my manifold is melted at this point.
- 1:05:02Well 'cause the first one they bring Jason Staman, they go back to Tokyo Drift
- 1:05:07with him, quote unquote killing Han.
- 1:05:09And then they've sort of skipped over, I'm hoping.
- 1:05:12And then they explain it more about how actually Deckard was helping out Han.
- 1:05:16Right.
- 1:05:16I'm guessing to escape the Yakuza.
- 1:05:18So interesting.
- 1:05:20I'm, well, we'll see what they do with that.
- 1:05:22We'll see what they do with that.
- 1:05:23I mean, once the franchise has hit 90 movies, I'm sure they'll do a TV
- 1:05:27show on like Hallmark channel and it'll be fantastic and you know, we'll
- 1:05:31just love it for the next 50 years.
- 1:05:32So whatever.
- 1:05:33Right.
- 1:05:33Live and love a quarter mile text Guys.
- 1:05:36Guys, this potentially means that there's a movie out there with Jason
- 1:05:40Statham, Iris Salba, and Han in their like early days, like a prequel.
- 1:05:45That is true.
- 1:05:46And they all know each other apparently.
- 1:05:48If you had to pick any two people from the Expendables to be in the Fast and
- 1:05:52Furious, which is basically expendables with cars, who would you pick?
- 1:05:56Well, we've already got Jason Statham, so there we go.
- 1:05:59Yeah, we got, we already got the good one, but two more.
- 1:06:00Two more.
- 1:06:00You're gonna pull two more Dol L Grin and Terry Cruz though.
- 1:06:04I mean, let's face it.
- 1:06:05Yeah, that's, that's who else we meet in this franchise.
- 1:06:07I was, I was thinking Terry Cruz and Jean Claude Van Dam.
- 1:06:10Jean Claude is pretty good.
- 1:06:11Jean Len.
- 1:06:12Yeah.
- 1:06:15He only gets to drive French cars though.
- 1:06:18He only gets to ride on top of a Volvo rig.
- 1:06:21He gets the brown Volvo from Jalopnik.
- 1:06:24That's what he gets to drive.
- 1:06:25End of story.
- 1:06:29It tough.
- 1:06:30So a lot of people will argue that Tokyo Drift is probably one of
- 1:06:33the best movies in the franchise.
- 1:06:35So do we put that in lane number two against maybe the original?
- 1:06:39I've heard it said before.
- 1:06:41I've been told, I've heard it said as well.
- 1:06:42It, it's, it's pretty good.
- 1:06:44I thought it was straight to DVD, but apparently it made
- 1:06:46like $200 million in theaters.
- 1:06:49Everybody thought it was straight to DVD and yet it made a shit ton of money.
- 1:06:53Here's the thing, the main kid.
- 1:06:55Not a great actor.
- 1:06:56The plot very interesting.
- 1:06:59The side characters very interesting.
- 1:07:02When you rewatch it, you can sort of look past our main characters.
- 1:07:05Sort of a nothing because the rest of the movie's very good.
- 1:07:10It was so good.
- 1:07:10It brought Vin back, right?
- 1:07:12He was like, oh no, I about to lose another franchise I'd you come back.
- 1:07:16Triple X isn't working out for me.
- 1:07:18Yeah, right.
- 1:07:19It's the same movie.
- 1:07:20I'm like, come on.
- 1:07:21So that's Furious.
- 1:07:23Yes.
- 1:07:25They don't wanna talk about Sean's.
- 1:07:26Give it the Furious six.
- 1:07:27Sorry, Eric.
- 1:07:30So over on our podcast, during the lockdown, we actually did quarter
- 1:07:35April at a time and we did review every single Fest and Furious movie.
- 1:07:40Because we were just making content, including the Roger Corman one, and
- 1:07:44Hobbes and Shaw and the entire universe.
- 1:07:46So nice.
- 1:07:48We're well versed in this.
- 1:07:49So, I mean, there's so many other films that we could talk about that
- 1:07:53aren't sequels from the same general era and genre of car film, right?
- 1:07:57The French connection to Live and Die in la, the seven ups bullet,
- 1:08:00Lamonts, grand Prix, even Rendezvous.
- 1:08:03If you've never seen that, you should check it out.
- 1:08:04Probably one of the, I don't wanna say the oldest car films, but it's
- 1:08:08right up there with no redeeming dialogue, but lots of action.
- 1:08:13We need a tiebreaker here.
- 1:08:15Right?
- 1:08:15I think we're still like three.
- 1:08:16All if I remember, and we need, we need something to break
- 1:08:19it up, to throw out a movie.
- 1:08:21We'll just go for it.
- 1:08:21And that's, that's gonna be it.
- 1:08:23What?
- 1:08:23What's it gonna be?
- 1:08:24Congo.
- 1:08:25No, let, let, let an action.
- 1:08:27Yeah, the movie or something.
- 1:08:28Action.
- 1:08:28Car movie.
- 1:08:28Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:08:29Well, I mean, whatever we gotta throw, I mean, we're tied three.
- 1:08:31All we gotta, we gotta settle this old versus new.
- 1:08:34Do the sequels win, do the modern movies kick ass tonight or do we hand
- 1:08:38it to the, the vintage guys, you know, loping away with their big V eights.
- 1:08:41Wait, was it Fast and Furious?
- 1:08:42The tiebreaker.
- 1:08:44So it's gotta be the new ones.
- 1:08:45We you, yeah.
- 1:08:46We never got a definitive answer.
- 1:08:47He's just throwing out.
- 1:08:49Yeah.
- 1:08:50Uh, well, I mean, fast and the Furious is like, are we drag racing or are
- 1:08:53we demolition derby at that point?
- 1:08:55Right.
- 1:08:55I mean, they're just all crashing into each other.
- 1:08:56And it depends on which movie you're talking about.
- 1:08:59It's, yeah.
- 1:08:59It starts at with their drag racing.
- 1:09:00We'll keep it with the first three where, yeah, it's like racing.
- 1:09:04So, so they start out, they start out as racers, they become
- 1:09:07sort of demolition derby guys.
- 1:09:09Then it becomes a car superhero franchise.
- 1:09:14So now we're into car superheroes.
- 1:09:16I think they've been disqualified for cheating and we need to
- 1:09:19find a better time breaker.
- 1:09:23Let me think.
- 1:09:23Lemme think.
- 1:09:24Look, you're just mad because they drove between two towers in Dubai.
- 1:09:27Alright.
- 1:09:28The van and a team old versus new.
- 1:09:31Oh, that's a good pull.
- 1:09:32That's a good pull.
- 1:09:33I like that.
- 1:09:34The A team.
- 1:09:35I just remember that there was a new A team and it was like, yeah, there we go.
- 1:09:38No, I, I forgot about that movie.
- 1:09:40And the sad part is I really like the new movie and I think,
- 1:09:43I think it's really good.
- 1:09:45It's basically the same van.
- 1:09:46So is it really?
- 1:09:48Or, or I guess we gotta compare the movie now because the vehicle's the same.
- 1:09:51We, we pull 'em up to the Christmas tree.
- 1:09:53They're, they're gonna run the same lap time.
- 1:09:54So what are we thinking, Brad, old a team as Corn ball as it was.
- 1:09:59You know, I love it when a plan comes together or the new stuff, corn ball.
- 1:10:03I'm glad when a plan comes together,
- 1:10:07I'm, I'm gonna stick with my millennial roots and say the new one, Ooh, I
- 1:10:11gotta go with the new one because it has John Ham in it, even as a Yeah.
- 1:10:15Yeah.
- 1:10:16And, and yeah, it's a, it's a good little action movie.
- 1:10:18I'm surprised it didn't make sequels, but I guess it didn't
- 1:10:20make a whole lot of money.
- 1:10:22Like, I'm trying to remember like the old, uh, a team episodes and I just
- 1:10:25remember them being very repetitive.
- 1:10:27Like, it's always like, Hey, we gotta go into this compound.
- 1:10:30And then you get.
- 1:10:31Uh, like, how are we gonna sneak in?
- 1:10:33I don't know, but I've got a plan.
- 1:10:34And then it ends up like the van's on like a hot air balloon and goes over
- 1:10:38the fence and then they shoot, get the hostages and shoot their way out.
- 1:10:42Ha.
- 1:10:43Freeze Frame created by Dick Wolf or whatever.
- 1:10:45It's,
- 1:10:48who's the, who's the guy?
- 1:10:49Uh, Rockford F uh, Jerry Canal.
- 1:10:51Yeah, exactly, exactly.
- 1:10:54Well, and we actually talked about Dick Wolf.
- 1:10:55He was part of a, a movie that we reviewed in our movie Mixed Bag episode.
- 1:10:59So go back and check that out.
- 1:11:00It's actually a lot of fun that starts, uh, DB Sweeney and Charlie
- 1:11:03Sheen in that film as well.
- 1:11:05So I get your point about the, A team, and people are gonna hate
- 1:11:08me for saying this, but I always.
- 1:11:10Put it into this category of, it's just like Voltron and people are like,
- 1:11:14what the hell are you talking about?
- 1:11:15It's just like Voltron.
- 1:11:16If you go back and rewatch the old episodes of Voltron, not the new
- 1:11:20stuff on Netflix, which is actually really, really good, you'll realize
- 1:11:23very quickly that there's only about 37 seconds of new content and every
- 1:11:28episode of Voltron and it's just canned stuff repeated over and over again.
- 1:11:32And that's how I feel about like the A Team and Hawaii five oh and like
- 1:11:37Gilligan Island and all those old shows.
- 1:11:40All right.
- 1:11:40What's the new little piece that we're adding to the same old crap we've
- 1:11:43been watching over and over again?
- 1:11:44I can see it All right.
- 1:11:46Time breaker movies too.
- 1:11:47I'm gonna throw another one out there for you guys.
- 1:11:49Smokey and the Bandit.
- 1:11:51The original three versus the four they made for, uh, country music television.
- 1:11:56Yeah.
- 1:11:56Good old CMT directed by Burt Reynolds, apparently.
- 1:12:00Oh, oh, oh, oh.
- 1:12:04I It's hard to go against the original Smokey and the Bandit.
- 1:12:08What?
- 1:12:09You didn't like Bandit.
- 1:12:09Bandit Bandit or Bandit Goes Country or, but then they had
- 1:12:14on what became the cw Right.
- 1:12:17They had the Bandit television show where he drove a Dodge stealth and
- 1:12:21that was absolutely horrendous.
- 1:12:23I can't remember the actor's name 'cause I don't think he did anything else.
- 1:12:25It was career tanked after that.
- 1:12:27But that was along with all those other shows that they were, they were having
- 1:12:30at the time, like name was Hugh Jackman.
- 1:12:32What, what?
- 1:12:34No bless femur.
- 1:12:37Got Sully Zi charade.
- 1:12:39Do not, do not Sully the name of, of Hugh.
- 1:12:43He apologizes for making Wolverine.
- 1:12:45But other than that, his, his career is completely un blemished.
- 1:12:48It's okay.
- 1:12:4943.
- 1:12:53That about that one, didn't you?
- 1:12:56Oh, that's terrible.
- 1:12:59Uh, smoking the banana, I mean, the original one was awesome.
- 1:13:03I have, I didn't like the second or the third movie.
- 1:13:06And I, and I love, oh, you didn't like the elephant?
- 1:13:09Well get that some bitch, but you know, I don't know.
- 1:13:13There's something Pursuit.
- 1:13:15Come on anus.
- 1:13:17So apparently the third one, oh my God, my brain, Jackie Gleason,
- 1:13:22Jackie Gleason was supposed to play every single character right.
- 1:13:25Right.
- 1:13:26Including the Bandit, but he got sick, you know, right.
- 1:13:29During filming.
- 1:13:30So they couldn't do that.
- 1:13:31I don't think it would've been a better movie.
- 1:13:34Nope.
- 1:13:34Wasn't that the one where Cletus, AKA, the Snowman introduces to us,
- 1:13:38to Fred and his girlfriend Freda?
- 1:13:41Yes.
- 1:13:41Yep.
- 1:13:42That's the most memorable part of that movie for me.
- 1:13:45Because you imagine if every single character was Jackie Gleason,
- 1:13:49that's like a simple Jack, right.
- 1:13:51That, that's how I would view that turning out at the end of that film.
- 1:13:57It just like, like it wouldn't have been better, but it would've been interesting.
- 1:14:00It would've been a piece of cinema.
- 1:14:03It would've been a piece of something.
- 1:14:04You're right about that.
- 1:14:06So, so the old ones wins, right?
- 1:14:08The original.
- 1:14:09I, I, I think so.
- 1:14:10I really do.
- 1:14:11So I mean, we're tied yet again, you know, new a team, old Smokey in the band.
- 1:14:14I think we just keep going back and forth, but we're having a lot of fun doing it.
- 1:14:17Right.
- 1:14:18Car movies are awesome.
- 1:14:19They need to make a come.
- 1:14:20Okay.
- 1:14:20The Fast and Furious movies.
- 1:14:22Fantastic.
- 1:14:23Although half of the stunts and everything in it, C-R-C-G-I, we need
- 1:14:28more Mad Max Fury Road type shit.
- 1:14:30Where Yeah, we need real cars, real CARSs just banging and just people
- 1:14:34jumping from car to car, hood to hood and let's break the truck.
- 1:14:38Jump record.
- 1:14:39Where's Hal Em when you need them?
- 1:14:41Ray Richard Smith is still alive.
- 1:14:43Let's make this happen.
- 1:14:45Come on Australia.
- 1:14:45You know what's up now we movie, podcast.
- 1:14:48Sorry.
- 1:14:48Gearheads
- 1:14:52people don't watch Tucker 'cause they wanna find out about how
- 1:14:54a guy bankrupt the car company.
- 1:14:59You watch that.
- 1:14:59I watch, I wrote an article about that movie with uh, with that which
- 1:15:02had Jeff Bridges from Tron a so, uh, 'cause we're on the car podcast.
- 1:15:08I have to brag a little.
- 1:15:09When I was a kid, my dad was an antique automotive mechanic.
- 1:15:12Oh cool.
- 1:15:12His specialty was pre-World War II cars and he worked on not one
- 1:15:17but two Tuckers and I had to write both of them for the test drive.
- 1:15:21What was it like riding in a helicopter engine powered
- 1:15:24rear wheel drive monstrosity?
- 1:15:27Honestly, it was sort of like driving it, riding in any car from
- 1:15:31like the twenties or thirties.
- 1:15:33But I was also like six, so, oh, well there you go.
- 1:15:36And you know, we did have one of those Stanley steamers and he would take
- 1:15:40it apart and just store it in the garage until somebody asked him if it
- 1:15:44could be in a parade and he'd spend three days putting it back together.
- 1:15:47Nice.
- 1:15:48And you know what, I know how we're gonna wrap this episode up.
- 1:15:50I think we're gonna do it.
- 1:15:52Break fix style.
- 1:15:52Brad, why don't we ask him a couple pit stop questions while we're at it.
- 1:15:56Okay.
- 1:15:57From down guys, I bring my own toilet paper.
- 1:16:00Oh,
- 1:16:03pit stop hack number one.
- 1:16:05We talking NASCAR Pit stop or Formula one.
- 1:16:09Oh, road trip.
- 1:16:10I, I was thinking run down a Valero station in the middle of Nevada.
- 1:16:15You just reminded me of Rat Race where
- 1:16:20the girl's like, she, she hangs her ass out the window.
- 1:16:25Dude, I gotta go.
- 1:16:28I'm Prairie dog.
- 1:16:28It Oh, so good.
- 1:16:30That and sex drive where?
- 1:16:32Where the girl has to fill the radiator on the side of the road.
- 1:16:35Oh, that scene is incredible.
- 1:16:37But no.
- 1:16:39What's the best looking car of all time?
- 1:16:42Ooh.
- 1:16:43Best looking car.
- 1:16:44Sexiest.
- 1:16:46I like the like 69, like Laman, Chevelle, like that kind of muscle car body.
- 1:16:53That's my favorite.
- 1:16:54Nice, nice.
- 1:16:55Uh, I am super, super, super biased.
- 1:16:59'cause one of these has been on my mom's side of the family, in the family
- 1:17:02for, well, almost a hundred years now.
- 1:17:05Uh, I really like a 36 Ford Cabrio.
- 1:17:08Oh, that's a good pull.
- 1:17:09That's the first time somebody's gone that far back.
- 1:17:12Mm-hmm.
- 1:17:12That's awesome.
- 1:17:12That's a good looking car.
- 1:17:14I agree.
- 1:17:15And so when we flip that on its nose, ugliest car of all time.
- 1:17:19We're talking ugly.
- 1:17:20We're talking FI mean, uh, 1987 Ford, Mustang.
- 1:17:25Anything hatchback?
- 1:17:26Anything Scion.
- 1:17:27Yeah.
- 1:17:28Whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 1:17:29We got a fox body on one side and we have a Toyota Corolla
- 1:17:34basically on the other side.
- 1:17:35Wow.
- 1:17:36No, no, no.
- 1:17:36Toyota Corolla's are beautiful.
- 1:17:38This is, if Duplos had an abortion, I've never heard it referred to
- 1:17:41that way, but that's that's great.
- 1:17:43I love it.
- 1:17:45Stop me when I'm wrong.
- 1:17:48Now I will say there's people like shaking their fists and, and getting
- 1:17:51their pitchforks and their torches lit. Now, when you mention the Fox Body
- 1:17:54Mustang, 'cause that that is sacred, that that's a national treasure right there.
- 1:17:57That's like, look, crocodile Dundee, you guys got ripped off in the eighties.
- 1:18:01I, I apologize on behalf of the Foreign Motor Company for putting out that shit.
- 1:18:05I'm sorry you were 19.
- 1:18:06The engines are great, but the body Yeah, no, I thought you
- 1:18:09were gonna say the other thing.
- 1:18:10Everybody seems to like the body and they go that 3 0 2.
- 1:18:13Five liters of 180 horsepower.
- 1:18:15What is that?
- 1:18:17Yeah.
- 1:18:18Yeah.
- 1:18:18That is odd.
- 1:18:19But it's
- 1:18:22so you could have that 5.0 on the side of that horrible body.
- 1:18:26All right, I'm done.
- 1:18:28If you could have any one car from television or a movie, what would it be?
- 1:18:34What was that car in Octopussy?
- 1:18:35No, I'm just kidding.
- 1:18:36Um,
- 1:18:39you just wanted to say octopus again?
- 1:18:40Yeah.
- 1:18:41Yeah.
- 1:18:43Ooh.
- 1:18:43This is a, that is a tough one.
- 1:18:46Any car from any, can I have the war rig from fa?
- 1:18:49Yeah.
- 1:18:49Any war road.
- 1:18:50I, I would like a big rig that has gun turrets attached to it.
- 1:18:54And flame throwers.
- 1:18:56We used to live in the San Francisco area.
- 1:18:58I've sat in traffic.
- 1:18:59I'd like a big rig.
- 1:19:00I'd like to do that anymore.
- 1:19:01So you want, you want Optimist Prime is what you're saying?
- 1:19:04Oh, no, no, no.
- 1:19:06Oh, no, no, no.
- 1:19:06She, she wants the war rig.
- 1:19:07Like, I want the war.
- 1:19:08Oh.
- 1:19:08Oh, I know you said semi.
- 1:19:10I I just went Transformers.
- 1:19:11So I was like, all right.
- 1:19:12Yeah, no, no, no, no.
- 1:19:12I believe the war rig could blow up.
- 1:19:14Optimist Prime.
- 1:19:18So it's funny when we had Brian on the show, and he mentioned that he wanted the,
- 1:19:22uh, the dog mobile from Dumb and Dumber.
