- 0:09Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to another episode of Star Wars Alliance.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Of course, I'm your host Clay and with me like
- 0:18Speaker 1: every single week. If you cannot hear her already, is Katie. Guys.
- 0:30Speaker 1: We told you last week that there is not going
- 0:33Speaker 1: to be a live show this week due to the
- 0:37Speaker 1: fact that we had to record this early. And the
- 0:42Speaker 1: reason that is is because of the embargo date on
- 0:50Speaker 1: this as well as just like other stuff that was
- 0:53Speaker 1: going on in both of our personal lives. Katie is
- 0:57Speaker 1: you know, getting a new house and all of this stuff.
- 1:00Speaker 1: I'm still settling in and so we just didn't want
- 1:03Speaker 1: to jinx it and we didn't want to be like, hey,
- 1:05Speaker 1: we could definitely do this, So we are recording this
- 1:10Speaker 1: outside of the normal Wednesday showing as far as the
- 1:15Speaker 1: live show, and this should be dropping on your feeds
- 1:21Speaker 1: on Thursday. So yep, with that, Katie, I do not
- 1:28Speaker 1: believe because I am looking through the news nothing has dropped.
- 1:33Speaker 1: The only thing that has dropped is I sent you
- 1:35Speaker 1: a text message with the current Star Wars book panel
- 1:42Speaker 1: schedule for San Diego Comic Con. Yes he did, and
- 1:47Speaker 1: that is both on July twenty fourth, there's going to
- 1:52Speaker 1: be a twelve pm Pacific time, which is going to
- 1:58Speaker 1: be Mad Cave and Lucasfilm Publishing. They're going to probably
- 2:04Speaker 1: do more elaborate stuff on what we already know, possible,
- 2:09Speaker 1: possible that they might be announcing anything new. I doubt
- 2:14Speaker 1: it with how they have been pushing their Mad Cave
- 2:18Speaker 1: stuff recently. You will probably just see more new stuff
- 2:24Speaker 1: along with solicitations with Mad Cave, so keep an eye
- 2:27Speaker 1: on that for sure. Mad Cave and paper Cuts, of course.
- 2:32Speaker 1: But we do have a two pm Pacific on the
- 2:36Speaker 1: twenty fourth of this month Star Wars Books from Random
- 2:41Speaker 1: House Worlds. This is where I can see us getting
- 2:50Speaker 1: at least one new announcement. Yeah, at least one, I think, yeh.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Should we get our hopes up for like I would
- 3:09Speaker 1: or what do you what do you think? What do
- 3:10Speaker 1: you think, Katie?
- 3:12Speaker 2: I would imagine that we may get a sneak peek
- 3:14Speaker 2: at early Spring book. I'm not picturing anything more than that.
- 3:24Speaker 2: Also potentially Brain of the Empire book two, that could
- 3:31Speaker 2: be a promising one. Yeah, as well to get a
- 3:35Speaker 2: sneak peek at Sorry mother in law's texting me.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Just because I do have it. On Star Wars news Net.
- 3:50Speaker 1: They are releasing a the book that we are reviewing today.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Yes, they're having a exclusive dust jacket, which I love
- 4:02Speaker 2: this idea. We don't need if you're just going to
- 4:05Speaker 2: do a dust jacket, which is fine if you want
- 4:07Speaker 2: to do other things. But I love the idea of
- 4:10Speaker 2: just an extra dust jacket for people. It's a lot
- 4:14Speaker 2: less republishing of the same book, and the price is
- 4:20Speaker 2: much cheaper because you just buy the book and then
- 4:22Speaker 2: you get an additional dust jacket that I like this idea.
- 4:27Speaker 1: I think that is really neat.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Honestly, I am sad because I would love to get
- 4:33Speaker 2: this dust jackets. Dust jacket is gorgeous.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Y'all, especially in context of the actual story. I really
- 4:42Speaker 1: like it.
- 4:43Speaker 2: I love these dust jackets too. Where it's a scene
- 4:46Speaker 2: from the book. We had the out of print ones
- 4:52Speaker 2: for the Higher Republic, and then there was like, uh,
- 4:56Speaker 2: there was a couple others that used to do something
- 4:59Speaker 2: very similar to this. Uh Delilah S. Dawson's Yes, the
- 5:06Speaker 2: Red and Quizard.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Yeah, the red Blade Blade. Thank you. We we both
- 5:11Speaker 1: got that. That was from New York, right, yea? Or
- 5:15Speaker 1: was it San Diego? Uh?
- 5:18Speaker 2: That was New York. No, No, that was San Diego,
- 5:22Speaker 2: San Diego.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Okay, I think the New York one was the Mace Windu, Yes, yes,
- 5:29Speaker 1: which we weren't able to get our hands on. But yeah,
- 5:34Speaker 1: I really I really like this idea. Now here's something
- 5:41Speaker 1: this is exclusive to San Diego Comic Con. Do you
- 5:47Speaker 1: think they should keep it exclusive? And I don't mean
- 5:51Speaker 1: necessarily just to this one, but like, should they open
- 5:56Speaker 1: up this idea for like, oh, hey, with the new
- 6:03Speaker 1: rate of the Empire book, it's going to release not
- 6:08Speaker 1: really around any big cons, so we're putting out a
- 6:13Speaker 1: dust jacket for anybody who wants to grab it. Like,
- 6:16Speaker 1: do you think that should be a thing or how
- 6:18Speaker 1: do you like? What do you feel?
- 6:22Speaker 2: I think that specialigists are becoming more common, and they're
- 6:26Speaker 2: variated based on what publishers see. So if this one
- 6:30Speaker 2: is super popular, they may decide to do it. It
- 6:33Speaker 2: may be too late for rein of the Empire book too,
- 6:36Speaker 2: because that comes out in September, but I have seen
- 6:39Speaker 2: other publishers do something similar where you get like a
- 6:42Speaker 2: reversible dust jacket, which I can vibe with. So dust jacket, Yeah,
- 6:51Speaker 2: so how does that work? You basically just fold it
- 6:55Speaker 2: in the other direction and like manipulate it so it
- 6:58Speaker 2: just goes back in.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Okay, I was just because I'm I'm really like anal
- 7:04Speaker 1: about like creases and stuff, so like you would have
- 7:07Speaker 1: to literally crease it at the like the image would
- 7:11Speaker 1: have to be perfect on both sides.
- 7:15Speaker 2: God, my mom is calling me.
- 7:17Speaker 1: To equal the actual, equal the actual, Like you guys
- 7:26Speaker 1: know what I'm trying to say. The fact that, like
- 7:29Speaker 1: you have one image on one side of the dust
- 7:32Speaker 1: jacket and the other image has to be perfect in
- 7:37Speaker 1: the sense of where the creases are on the front part.
- 7:40Speaker 1: You would have to like then flip it, you know,
- 7:44Speaker 1: and if it's not, then it would irk me because
- 7:46Speaker 1: when you flip it back, there's new creases on the
- 7:50Speaker 1: other cover. So that's the only thing that would like
- 7:53Speaker 1: really really bother me when it comes to this. But
- 7:58Speaker 1: either way, like I think that this is something that
- 8:03Speaker 1: can be in the norm. I'm not somebody who I'm
- 8:12Speaker 1: not really somebody like especially now like Abby has definitely
- 8:18Speaker 1: gotten the Breton end of like my complaining. But like
- 8:23Speaker 1: I told Abby that, like I do not need the
- 8:30Speaker 1: sixteen hours of my day that I am awake. I
- 8:34Speaker 1: don't need to be monetized to those sixteen hours. So
- 8:39Speaker 1: like for me when it comes to the exclusivity, I
- 8:44Speaker 1: think it's okay because I need to be sold something
- 8:49Speaker 1: every second of every day.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Correct, And I think it while it would be nice
- 8:55Speaker 2: to have it fully available because again, I would love
- 8:58Speaker 2: the option to purchase this one. I want special additions
- 9:03Speaker 2: for things. That makes sense to me. But unfortunately, with
- 9:05Speaker 2: how popular special additions are nowadays, it can be very
- 9:09Speaker 2: hard to get to those special editions because they're behind
- 9:14Speaker 2: where people always purchase special editions, like I would be
- 9:18Speaker 2: last in line like to get a Goldsborough edition of
- 9:20Speaker 2: this basically, So special additions you have to like be
- 9:26Speaker 2: in the right place at the right time for them basically.
- 9:28Speaker 2: So I love it if it was a like a
- 9:32Speaker 2: preorder option. I know Random House Worlds has done that
- 9:37Speaker 2: before with like a calendar or like a digital something
- 9:43Speaker 2: or another. So I know there's options, and I know
- 9:47Speaker 2: obviously printaking is expensive and it's becoming more expensive nowadays. Uh,
- 9:52Speaker 2: but the goal, like I would love to see it
- 9:58Speaker 2: be available when I want it, But like, because I
- 10:02Speaker 2: don't buy special editions all the time, I will probably
- 10:06Speaker 2: never really be on that Like, oh I'm gonna give
- 10:09Speaker 2: the special edition radar kind of thing. Yeah, because this book,
- 10:13Speaker 2: I'm just gonna tell you, guys, legacy, I think this
- 10:17Speaker 2: is my favorite Star Wars book of all time.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Wowoh yeah really yeah, okay, okay, so I'm gonna okay,
- 10:35Speaker 1: so hold on that that that kind of surprises. It
- 10:42Speaker 1: doesn't surprise me, surprise me, but like it does. So like, okay,
- 10:49Speaker 1: not getting into spoilers right now. This is our non
- 10:53Speaker 1: spoiler conversation that we usually have right before we get
- 10:56Speaker 1: into spoilers whenever we do this type of thing. And
- 10:58Speaker 1: if you are newer to to Star Wars Alliance and
- 11:01Speaker 1: this is one of your first reviews that you are
- 11:04Speaker 1: listening to, guys, just know that, as like something that
- 11:09Speaker 1: we normally do here, we do not go chapter by chapter.
- 11:13Speaker 1: We do not go into the thick of spoilers. We
- 11:18Speaker 1: may talk about our favorite parts, we may talk about
- 11:21Speaker 1: like what it really means overall on the cannon type
- 11:25Speaker 1: of thing, but we leave a lot of the juicy
- 11:29Speaker 1: stuff to you guys to read on your own to
- 11:35Speaker 1: form your own opinions.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Because there's special moments in some of these books, and
- 11:43Speaker 2: especially this one. We'll talk about one cameo, but we'll
- 11:46Speaker 2: leave out the other one.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Is it the cameo? I think? Is it the cameo
- 11:50Speaker 1: that I commented on?
- 11:53Speaker 2: You know, I forgot to check the chapter because I
- 11:56Speaker 2: could I was listening to it via audio, and so
- 11:58Speaker 2: I forgot to like listen out for the chapter. Okay,
- 12:02Speaker 2: prepare to cut this out.
- 12:11Speaker 1: So okay, let me let me write that down. Then
- 12:14Speaker 1: need to write that down if we're gonna cut it. So,
- 12:19Speaker 1: like my big thing is.
- 12:25Speaker 2: That. So basically, guys, we want you guys to be
- 12:28Speaker 2: able to enjoy moments in these stories and not spoil
- 12:34Speaker 2: every tidbit in here, because Madeline Rue does an incredible
- 12:39Speaker 2: job with this one, really just tying in a lot
- 12:43Speaker 2: of Easter eggs, but then a lot of other story
- 12:46Speaker 2: elements at play, so we don't want to spoil too much,
- 12:50Speaker 2: but we're going to talk about things.
- 12:53Speaker 1: So yes, I would put this book. I want to
- 13:08Speaker 1: strongly say top ten. I'm not quite sure if I
- 13:11Speaker 1: want to say top five, which is fair? Which is
- 13:16Speaker 1: I think that with the cameos, with the weight of
- 13:24Speaker 1: this book, I do feel like, unfortunately, and we talk
- 13:31Speaker 1: about this type of thing a lot due to the
- 13:39Speaker 1: release of the sequel trilogy being before this book, or
- 13:46Speaker 1: at least the Rise of Skywalker to be released before
- 13:53Speaker 1: this book. It does leave one thing a bit like clunky, curious,
- 14:04Speaker 1: and we will we will talk about it because I
- 14:07Speaker 1: do think that again, we do mention at sometimes the
- 14:12Speaker 1: different like canonical uh consequences and lack thereof when we
- 14:20Speaker 1: talk about these reviews. But there is one that does
- 14:25Speaker 1: play a part, Like there's a pretty important part in
- 14:31Speaker 1: Rise of Skywalker that plays a part in this book.
- 14:37Speaker 1: And I will just say this. It has to do
- 14:39Speaker 1: with her visions and the person and or thing that
- 14:44Speaker 1: she's seeing. So so let's just get into it. Let's
- 14:50Speaker 1: just jump jump into it, Katie. I want you to
- 14:52Speaker 1: know that I notated this book and highlighted this book
- 14:57Speaker 1: like crazy, chapter eleven, chapter thirteen, chapter twentyeight. I probably
- 15:04Speaker 1: would have.
- 15:05Speaker 2: I was happy, I probably would have, but I was
- 15:09Speaker 2: having kindle issues and so I was just like, Okay,
- 15:12Speaker 2: I just need to get through and like and then
- 15:15Speaker 2: for my second read, because I got two reads, guys,
- 15:18Speaker 2: I was impressed with myself that I got two reads.
- 15:21Speaker 2: Oh but my second read, I got to listen to
- 15:25Speaker 2: Saskia Mark Mark No, Saskia Marchiaveld in her uh reading
- 15:35Speaker 2: of the book, which, by the way, love Saskia. She
- 15:39Speaker 2: does an incredible job. There are a few bits, in
- 15:44Speaker 2: particular with one of the enemies that they faced, where
- 15:48Speaker 2: the voice is a little funky, not super clear, but
- 15:55Speaker 2: otherwise great read. I really appreciate that we got the
- 15:58Speaker 2: audiobook in advance for this one because it made a
- 16:02Speaker 2: huge difference of me being able to get a second reading. Yeah, yeah,
- 16:09Speaker 2: I so I love this book, guys, and I think
- 16:14Speaker 2: so like this is so to give you guys some
- 16:19Speaker 2: context if you guys haven't heard about this book, this
- 16:22Speaker 2: book is basically about how Leah and Ray start their
- 16:27Speaker 2: Master and Apprentice journey and how the crystal for the
- 16:32Speaker 2: Skywalker lightsaber gets healed, and how Ray learns to use
- 16:36Speaker 2: those powers. Because we get to the Rise of Skywalker
- 16:40Speaker 2: right and she heals Kylo Wrinn, she heals the dragon Beast.
- 16:46Speaker 2: Like people were like, where does this come from? Like
- 16:49Speaker 2: how does this happen? This tells you that story.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Yeah, this this tells you not only like it, because
- 17:00Speaker 1: a lot of people when they see that are like, oh,
- 17:03Speaker 1: it just happened, and it happens so simply, like how
- 17:07Speaker 1: how is that even possible? It's not as easy as
- 17:12Speaker 1: it looks, and this book shows you why. Yeah, I
- 17:19Speaker 1: dug this book so much. I really liked uh well,
- 17:29Speaker 1: there is there is one tidbit that never got touched on,
- 17:33Speaker 1: and I think I'm actually okay with it because of
- 17:40Speaker 1: the everybody knows who has listened to this show and
- 17:46Speaker 1: especially the book reviews. I always joke around about I
- 17:49Speaker 1: want my Star Wars happily ever after. This book necessary
- 17:57Speaker 1: like it does have a happily ever after because of course,
- 18:00Speaker 1: like our heroes are okay, and they're like on the
- 18:03Speaker 1: up and up at the very end of the book. Yeah,
- 18:05Speaker 1: but there is something going on with one of our
- 18:10Speaker 1: newer characters that we were introduced with. His name is
- 18:14Speaker 1: Gab and there's a lot to do with his sister.
- 18:22Speaker 1: When you see what happens with her sister or with
- 18:27Speaker 1: his sister, excuse me, and then he never learns about
- 18:33Speaker 1: what happens to his sister. I'm kind of okay with that.
- 18:37Speaker 1: And the reason is it gives him hope. It gives
- 18:42Speaker 1: him hope. I don't need the heartbreak that he is
- 18:48Speaker 1: going to feel. And I'll just leave that tease there
- 18:51Speaker 1: because you can guess what happened. I personally as the reader,
- 18:58Speaker 1: with everything else else that's going on in the story,
- 19:02Speaker 1: I don't need that hard.
- 19:04Speaker 2: No, that would have put it kind of over the top.
- 19:08Speaker 2: I feel like Madeline was able to balance the emotions
- 19:13Speaker 2: at play in this so perfectly between raised turmoil for
- 19:18Speaker 2: being the last Jedi and knowing, hey, I have got
- 19:24Speaker 2: to rebuild this some way, but I'm also the hope
- 19:27Speaker 2: of the Resistance. But also if I don't have this lightsaber,
- 19:31Speaker 2: am I really a Jedi? And this lightsaber means so
- 19:35Speaker 2: much to people? What does this do in the end?
- 19:38Speaker 2: I think I feel like the attachment she has to
- 19:42Speaker 2: the Lightsaber particularly comes from the Force Awakens when the
- 19:46Speaker 2: Saber actually speaks to her in mas Canada's Castle, Like,
- 19:51Speaker 2: I feel like she's just emotionally attached to it and
- 19:55Speaker 2: almost kind of has like Stockholm syndrome to an extent.
- 20:00Speaker 1: Well, it's it's it's just it's literally a symbol of hope,
- 20:05Speaker 1: I think is the bigger thing. And it almost like
- 20:12Speaker 1: very meta because as Luke sky Walker's Lightsaber as Anakin's lightsaber,
- 20:24Speaker 1: we as the fans, saw that in the right in
- 20:30Speaker 1: the Force Awakens and we're like, oh my gosh, that
- 20:35Speaker 1: brings hope within us, within ourselves, So I think it
- 20:38Speaker 1: was very meta two for them to bring that in
- 20:43Speaker 1: again to be Ray's hope still, and it goes along
- 20:51Speaker 1: with the idea because even I think it's Leah who
- 20:55Speaker 1: brings it up again. This phrase has been talked about
- 21:00Speaker 1: not only in the High Republic, not only in prequel era,
- 21:06Speaker 1: but in the original trilogy era and now in this
- 21:09Speaker 1: sequel era. A Jedi is more than it's than their lightsaber.
- 21:16Speaker 1: Leah even told Ray that in this book, and I'm
- 21:20Speaker 1: so glad that she finally got to hear these words. Yeah,
- 21:26Speaker 1: because in this book there is a lot of despair,
- 21:34Speaker 1: a lot of negative negativity, a lot of losing of hope.
- 21:40Speaker 1: There's there's a lot, and it kind of hangs on
- 21:48Speaker 1: the words of Luke Skywalker himself in the Last Jedi
- 21:54Speaker 1: of You went Straight to the dark yep which is
- 21:59Speaker 1: the words of Luke Skywalker when you know they were meditating,
- 22:03Speaker 1: And they even use the word for word quote of
- 22:09Speaker 1: uh Luke Skywalker when he explained to Ray the one
- 22:14Speaker 1: time that I saw power like that. I can't remember
- 22:20Speaker 1: the exact quote, but basically saying like I did nothing
- 22:26Speaker 1: and look where Ben look what Ben became. I'm not
- 22:30Speaker 1: gonna let that happen again. And because it was literally
- 22:35Speaker 1: her only master at the time, she holds those words
- 22:39Speaker 1: very near and dear to her heart. And so unfortunately,
- 22:43Speaker 1: Luke Skywalker, your big jerk is.
- 22:46Speaker 2: Especially with the fact that her parents left with no
- 22:49Speaker 2: context that whole trend of okay, she finds somebody had died.
- 23:02Speaker 2: She thought she related to han Ah lot Han died.
- 23:04Speaker 2: Han left her. She gets to Luke hoping that there
- 23:09Speaker 2: will be some faith here and that she can get
- 23:11Speaker 2: some assistance in bringing forth with her future. And then
- 23:18Speaker 2: she gets told hey, no, no, wee jose And then
- 23:21Speaker 2: she gets to Leah. And in this book, Leah Ray
- 23:25Speaker 2: struggles with the fact that she has this attachment to
- 23:30Speaker 2: Kylo or to Ben rather not Kylo Ren, but knowing
- 23:37Speaker 2: that also that he's potentially too far gone, and she
- 23:42Speaker 2: doesn't know how to bring up that she has this
- 23:45Speaker 2: attachment to Bin, to his mother of all people, she
- 23:50Speaker 2: like she wrestles with that, and like the catalyst of
- 23:54Speaker 2: this is we get Ray where she goes up into
- 23:57Speaker 2: this mountain and is like devastated, She's tossed the crystal,
- 24:03Speaker 2: like doesn't want anything to do with it, and she
- 24:07Speaker 2: comes back down and Ray's finally like, you know what,
- 24:10Speaker 2: I can't do this by myself like, and Leia has
- 24:13Speaker 2: been trying to tell her that the entire way. But Ray,
- 24:17Speaker 2: thanks to Tython's force presence, like Tython, even gets called
- 24:22Speaker 2: a virgence like that, it contains a vergence with Kylo Renn.
- 24:27Speaker 2: At the end of the book, thanks to Tython's force presence,
- 24:32Speaker 2: She's able to kind of come to a realization that
- 24:35Speaker 2: Lena is speaking the truth that you can't do it
- 24:37Speaker 2: on your own ye and that she needs to be open.
- 24:41Speaker 2: And so she tells Lea about her dreams. She tells
- 24:44Speaker 2: her about the attachment. And this is after Leah has
- 24:49Speaker 2: had the talk with Luke after she retrieved the lightsaber. Yes,
- 24:53Speaker 2: Luke makes an appearance.
- 24:56Speaker 1: So, so how'd you feel about that? I? I I
- 25:03Speaker 1: don't know. And the only reason again is because unfortunately
- 25:11Speaker 1: the Rise of Skywalker has already been released. It's already
- 25:15Speaker 1: a viewing thing. People can have an opinion on that
- 25:18Speaker 1: movie already before reading this. I understand that Luke presents
- 25:26Speaker 1: himself to Ray and it's supposed to feel like the
- 25:30Speaker 1: very first time, but Lee as a completely different person, right,
- 25:36Speaker 1: and so that's how you get away with it, That's
- 25:39Speaker 1: how you.
- 25:43Speaker 2: I also think Luke's presence in the Rise of Skywalker
- 25:47Speaker 2: is different because it's a different person. But it also
- 25:51Speaker 2: this book explains the difference kind of in his opinion
- 25:56Speaker 2: towards Ray.
- 25:57Speaker 1: Yes.
- 25:58Speaker 2: Yes, because at this point we can assume that Luke
- 26:02Speaker 2: talks with Leah the rest of the time until Rise
- 26:05Speaker 2: of Skywalker and is like following up and stuff and
- 26:08Speaker 2: like on being a Jedi master.
- 26:12Speaker 1: That's the big thing that I want your opinion on,
- 26:17Speaker 1: because I don't think hearing that this is your favorite book,
- 26:22Speaker 1: I don't think this sways you at all, but you
- 26:24Speaker 1: may have an opinion on it. How do you feel
- 26:27Speaker 1: about Luke revealing to Leyah about Ray's origins?
- 26:36Speaker 2: But we had wondered that because in the Rise of
- 26:40Speaker 2: Skywalker he says layand new Leye had no problem with it.
- 26:49Speaker 2: I don't remember exactly what he said, but I know
- 26:51Speaker 2: he said Layan knew there was no problems, and we
- 26:57Speaker 2: were wondering with Shadows of the Sith how that information
- 27:02Speaker 2: got to Leya. Because Lea does not make an appearance
- 27:04Speaker 2: in Shadow of the Stead No, she does not know
- 27:07Speaker 2: and that's how Luke knows the Palpatine connection.
- 27:12Speaker 1: So we knew. No, no, he doesn't. He doesn't know
- 27:15Speaker 1: because of Shadow the Sith. He says it in the book.
- 27:23Speaker 1: He says that because time does not work the same
- 27:30Speaker 1: as now, he is a force ghost, that he is
- 27:35Speaker 1: basically has an he has had an eternity to figure
- 27:39Speaker 1: it out. He is now nonlinear with actual space and time.
- 27:50Speaker 1: That's what he is saying, which is weird because it's
- 27:55Speaker 1: never been explained like that before. Mm hmm. But that's
- 28:00Speaker 1: that's what he tells Lea in this book, is that
- 28:05Speaker 1: that time does not work the same and that he
- 28:12Speaker 1: has found out that way now he does. He references
- 28:19Speaker 1: the Shadow of Sith mission he does. And I believe
- 28:26Speaker 1: that is also because if when you read the book,
- 28:31Speaker 1: the only individuals that ever get close enough to raise
- 28:38Speaker 1: parents is Lando. Luke never makes contact with them. Lando
- 28:45Speaker 1: is the only one to ever even communicate with him.
- 28:48Speaker 1: He doesn't even make full contact with him. He only
- 28:51Speaker 1: communicates with them over a coms link on the ship.
- 28:59Speaker 2: I definitely understood that differently, Yeah, which is fine. I
- 29:06Speaker 2: planned on rereading it anyways.
- 29:11Speaker 1: It's totally fine. I think it's even more fun this way,
- 29:18Speaker 1: because because it's still kind.
- 29:20Speaker 2: Of a mystery and they can play around with it
- 29:23Speaker 2: a little bit more, and because it can be understood
- 29:26Speaker 2: in different ways. If they decide that Luke figures it
- 29:29Speaker 2: out later on this or like before he becomes a
- 29:34Speaker 2: forced ghost, Yeah, it's not the end of the world,
- 29:37Speaker 2: because yeah, I don't.
- 29:41Speaker 1: Think it's the end of the world. I just thought, like, oh,
- 29:44Speaker 1: the one thing that irked me was Leah kind of
- 29:52Speaker 1: running into the same problem that all of Star Wars
- 29:56Speaker 1: has had, especially the Skywalker family, which is like she
- 30:03Speaker 1: contemplates on whether she should tell Ray or not, and
- 30:09Speaker 1: she's like, oh, well, Ray has already had all of
- 30:11Speaker 1: this like negativity and she already has like a heavy heart.
- 30:16Speaker 1: If I say something now, it'll turn her into like
- 30:20Speaker 1: put her more into a spiral. And I literally put
- 30:23Speaker 1: into my notes that's not up for you to decide.
- 30:27Speaker 1: It's not right.
- 30:30Speaker 2: But I don't understand Madeline's problem.
- 30:34Speaker 1: It's the fact that the Rise of Skywalker has already
- 30:38Speaker 1: been created, yes, but just the way you have to
- 30:44Speaker 1: like make it work. It kind of irks me because
- 30:47Speaker 1: I'm like, you're not learning from your mistakes. Nobody is
- 30:51Speaker 1: learning from their mistakes right now. So that's the only
- 30:55Speaker 1: thing that that's the only reason why it irks me.
- 30:58Speaker 1: The reveal of reyes of Palpatine to Lea only annoys
- 31:07Speaker 1: me because of how they have to kind of force
- 31:10Speaker 1: it into like, Hey, I can't say anything because she
- 31:14Speaker 1: learns about it in the Rise of Skywalker. Yes, that's
- 31:16Speaker 1: the only reason why. Now I will say, there is
- 31:21Speaker 1: a cameo and I've already cut this out in the episode.
- 31:27Speaker 1: There is a cameo in this book.
- 31:32Speaker 2: Why don't we talk about that cameo at the very end?
- 31:36Speaker 2: We can do that and that way, it's like, if
- 31:39Speaker 2: you don't want a spoiler for this portion.
- 31:41Speaker 1: Okay, Okay, So there there is another thing that that
- 31:49Speaker 1: irks me about this book. Okay, there is a what
- 31:57Speaker 1: chapter I think it's chapter thirteen. I have in my
- 32:03Speaker 1: notes It says here, uh, I'm glad you're alive, Leah
- 32:10Speaker 1: said softly. She touched Ray's hair in a few places,
- 32:14Speaker 1: as if checking for injuries. This is in the perspective
- 32:19Speaker 1: of Ray. Her own mother used to do that after
- 32:23Speaker 1: Ray would slump into their shelter, covering in rough and
- 32:26Speaker 1: tumble bruises, giving her daughter it once over before her
- 32:30Speaker 1: turn around, before her turn around, so she could comb
- 32:36Speaker 1: the sand out of her hair. So I read this
- 32:44Speaker 1: and I immediately thought Jacu. And I'm just now realizing
- 32:48Speaker 1: it doesn't necessarily mean jaku because when we learn in
- 32:57Speaker 1: Shadows of the Scythe that they ever make it to
- 33:02Speaker 1: they have to show ship off right to shoot.
- 33:07Speaker 2: No. Well, but the thing is is so in Shadow
- 33:12Speaker 2: of the Sith because I pulled this up when we
- 33:14Speaker 2: were talking about like if Luke knew Literally the first
- 33:18Speaker 2: line of the plot summary on Wikipedia, Dathan, his wife,
- 33:21Speaker 2: Mirah Mir, and their six year old daughter Ray flee
- 33:24Speaker 2: into wild space on our freighter they had stolen from
- 33:26Speaker 2: Ukar Plutz ship scrapyard. They were on jack Wu. They
- 33:34Speaker 2: had grown up moving from place to place. So like
- 33:37Speaker 2: in Shadow the Fifth, the thing you're probably remembering is
- 33:39Speaker 2: they were in the forest and stuff. They moved from
- 33:43Speaker 2: planet to planet, and so that's how they knew to
- 33:46Speaker 2: send her back to Jack who is because Okay.
- 33:52Speaker 1: That makes more sense.
- 33:53Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, because Luke even says it in one of
- 33:57Speaker 2: his talks with Leah. Yeah, when he's talking about the
- 34:00Speaker 2: Shadow of the Sith mission, He's like, yeah, her parents
- 34:03Speaker 2: were Jack who scrappers.
- 34:07Speaker 1: So I didn't guess that. Yeah, okay that now there's
- 34:13Speaker 1: a full circle moment. Okay, Okay, that makes more sense.
- 34:18Speaker 1: Okay I was about to say. I was like, they're
- 34:22Speaker 1: not reading, they're Cannon Jebrary or Canon Bible too.
- 34:31Speaker 2: That did not have to mean jack who. But in
- 34:34Speaker 2: this case, there is lines that signified it as.
- 34:37Speaker 1: Jacket that it is Jacku because she technically could have
- 34:47Speaker 1: grown up there but still traveled because they were in hiding.
- 34:51Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, uh.
- 34:55Speaker 1: So I'm curious how this is your favorite book with
- 35:02Speaker 1: so much suspense and so much like almost horror.
- 35:13Speaker 2: See, but I need to feel like it was horror esque.
- 35:16Speaker 2: Even in even in the audiobook, I really felt like
- 35:22Speaker 2: it was more drama than thriller or horror esque.
- 35:27Speaker 1: I mean, you put a little girl's face saying help me,
- 35:33Speaker 1: all right, little girl's voice saying help me.
- 35:36Speaker 2: But we're also very used to Ray having those visions
- 35:40Speaker 2: and stuff, and so it really didn't signify anything to me.
- 35:43Speaker 2: Okay that it was a trap. I just thought, Okay,
- 35:47Speaker 2: it's want to raise visions, that's happening. Yeah, so I
- 35:53Speaker 2: really didn't feel thriller or horror esque vibes even when
- 35:57Speaker 2: we get into the crypt. And maybe it's also because
- 36:01Speaker 2: I can't picture these things, and because when I tie
- 36:04Speaker 2: horror to a book, it's typically serial killer.
- 36:08Speaker 1: Really yeah, and as somebody who does not like horror,
- 36:15Speaker 1: but somebody who can definitely picture the entire book as
- 36:19Speaker 1: a movie in their head, Like that's why it makes
- 36:24Speaker 1: no sense to highlight it. But there's like an observation
- 36:29Speaker 1: that I think Ray has that she's She's like, oh,
- 36:32Speaker 1: I hear a voice, but there's nobody hiding behind these towers.
- 36:36Speaker 1: I'm just like, what, why would you say it like that?
- 36:40Speaker 2: Like, And I think it's also because like in Shadow
- 36:44Speaker 2: of the City, Luke has a vision on Tython about
- 36:48Speaker 2: the Exagon Sorry guys, yeah, sorry, he has a vision
- 36:53Speaker 2: about the Exagoll people. So I'm very like and especially
- 36:58Speaker 2: with what I've read in Legends, I'm very to Tython
- 37:01Speaker 2: being related to vision esque things. Yeah, So it didn't
- 37:07Speaker 2: really bug me. But I love the relationship that Roe
- 37:13Speaker 2: is able to build between Leah and Rey because we
- 37:17Speaker 2: always wondered that about how she gets like that was
- 37:21Speaker 2: one of the main questions. And I know, don't be
- 37:24Speaker 2: one of those people guys who is like well, I
- 37:26Speaker 2: shouldn't have to get a book to understand a movie, Okay,
- 37:29Speaker 2: but this like expands that so much more and it
- 37:33Speaker 2: just gives this depth that allows you to look at
- 37:37Speaker 2: the Rise of Skywalker with brand new eyes. Really, that's
- 37:41Speaker 2: how artistic Row managed to be with this. She really
- 37:47Speaker 2: did an incredible job with it, and I love the
- 37:51Speaker 2: action sequences that we get in here. She manipulates the
- 37:55Speaker 2: lightsaber very well in all of the different fights that
- 37:58Speaker 2: Ray gets in, and this.
- 38:01Speaker 1: Like, okay, well space fighting happened before any of like
- 38:06Speaker 1: the ground fighting, which I thought was really really cool.
- 38:09Speaker 1: There was like a little bit of like force manipulation
- 38:12Speaker 1: of like sling shotting into getting into the atmosphere safely
- 38:19Speaker 1: and stuff. I thought that was really really cool. But
- 38:23Speaker 1: speaking of ground fighting, in the tomb that they're uh,
- 38:29Speaker 1: basically like trapped. It's not trapped, but.
- 38:34Speaker 2: Like it's back to the old Republic guys, so that it's.
- 38:37Speaker 1: Like a it's like a booty trap. Yeah, there's a
- 38:42Speaker 1: moment where she finds all these lightsabers and she hands
- 38:45Speaker 1: one Delaya, she hands one to Gaff, but it's more
- 38:48Speaker 1: so to use for light, not necessarily like, hey, we
- 38:51Speaker 1: all need to fight this thing. She hands them to
- 38:55Speaker 1: to to use his light. But then they meet this thing. Yeah,
- 39:02Speaker 1: this Jum and this is the cool thing. So I've
- 39:06Speaker 1: talked about how I love the Bindu in Rebels. It
- 39:11Speaker 1: is a very large, supernatural force being that kind of
- 39:20Speaker 1: stretches the imagination when it comes to what Star Wars
- 39:25Speaker 1: can be. Well, we get not somebody like the Bindu
- 39:31Speaker 1: because we're not necessarily uh told that they can manipulate
- 39:39Speaker 1: the force. But it's cognitive to a point of an
- 39:45Speaker 1: actual conversation with Ray happens in their mind and it
- 39:51Speaker 1: is terrifying.
- 39:54Speaker 2: And that was the That was the one part of
- 39:57Speaker 2: the narration that I struggled with, was the voice in there.
- 40:02Speaker 2: And it might have been because guys, we cut it
- 40:04Speaker 2: to one point five speed.
- 40:07Speaker 1: I cut two versions. I did two point five or
- 40:11Speaker 1: regular two time speed, which is what I listened to,
- 40:14Speaker 1: and then I cut a one point five speed for Katie.
- 40:20Speaker 1: This thing is described as basically a giant snake like
- 40:30Speaker 1: thing with a hardened shell, but.
- 40:36Speaker 2: Like centipede almost things like yes.
- 40:38Speaker 1: Because it has like mandibles and like like it has
- 40:41Speaker 1: all of it. It's creepy. It's super creepy. And Ray
- 40:47Speaker 1: does this really cool thing where she jumps up. While
- 40:52Speaker 1: she jumps up, she uses the force to grab GAVs
- 40:55Speaker 1: lightsaber and lay Laya's lightsaber as well as her own,
- 41:00Speaker 1: and she spins it like a giant throwing star to
- 41:08Speaker 1: hit this creature. I thought that was the coolest thing
- 41:11Speaker 1: she has ever done.
- 41:13Speaker 2: Yeah, the it like brings a whole new meaning kind
- 41:17Speaker 2: of to like the spinning lightsaber for the inquisitors, Like
- 41:20Speaker 2: I just imagine it just like all of them rotating
- 41:24Speaker 2: in like a giant trangle.
- 41:25Speaker 1: Giant.
- 41:26Speaker 2: Yeah, is awesome. And then like how she talks about
- 41:31Speaker 2: like like having the lightsabers trail behind her. But then
- 41:36Speaker 2: the attachment that ray actually gets to one of the
- 41:41Speaker 2: former dark Side users that came to the Tython Temple.
- 41:45Speaker 2: She gets that attachment to it, and I have to
- 41:47Speaker 2: think because at the end, guys, at the end, she
- 41:51Speaker 2: opens up the crystal and realizes it's not red anymore.
- 41:55Speaker 2: It's yellow. I have to wonder if that's her light
- 42:00Speaker 2: Saper crystal that she chooses.
- 42:01Speaker 1: To use one. I I one hundred percent when it
- 42:07Speaker 1: when it says that, I was like, yeah, one hundred percent,
- 42:10Speaker 1: because she.
- 42:11Speaker 2: Had that attachment to it. The whole time, and Lea
- 42:14Speaker 2: was like, dude, that's the dark side, that's the sisty
- 42:17Speaker 2: light saber, Like.
- 42:19Speaker 1: What are you doing? It's really funny because like it
- 42:23Speaker 1: is like in every stereotypical like supernatural like movie or whatever,
- 42:30Speaker 1: like they're always like you. You would like if they
- 42:33Speaker 1: had made this a movie, you would probably see a
- 42:36Speaker 1: couple scenes where like Ray is just staring at it
- 42:41Speaker 1: in a room mm and like Leo would like come
- 42:45Speaker 1: around be like, hey, what are you doing? And she'd
- 42:47Speaker 1: like trying to hide it, like I see, I see
- 42:49Speaker 1: that in my head whenever I read this book, but
- 42:52Speaker 1: like she does that for real in this book where
- 42:55Speaker 1: she's kind of just like studying it and Lea's like, hey,
- 42:58Speaker 1: what you doing. She's like, oh, well, you know this,
- 43:01Speaker 1: this can help us. This this very teaches something.
- 43:05Speaker 2: It's very similar to how Ahsoka feels in the Ahsoka
- 43:08Speaker 2: book when she gets the Inquisitor's lightsaber and she feels
- 43:13Speaker 2: something calling to her and so she like pulls the
- 43:18Speaker 2: crystals like actually out of the lightsaber and then purifies
- 43:21Speaker 2: them and that's why she gets her lightsabers for rebels.
- 43:25Speaker 2: Is very similar feeling I get with that, and it's
- 43:31Speaker 2: just like a crystal talking, like we know that the
- 43:33Speaker 2: Kyber crystals call out based on like the Clone Wars
- 43:36Speaker 2: with the Youngling visits to the planet. I can't remember
- 43:46Speaker 2: the name of the planet, h.
- 43:50Speaker 1: I something, I I got it, and then.
- 44:06Speaker 4: Mike, Yeah, it's very reminiscent of those episodes because we
- 44:14Speaker 4: know that the crystals call out to the Younglings.
- 44:17Speaker 2: They're very similar thing. Yeah, and Leia just doesn't Lay
- 44:21Speaker 2: and Ray both don't understand that aspect.
- 44:25Speaker 1: So I also want to applaud uh the author Roe
- 44:36Speaker 1: for leaving one mystery to the entire book, in this
- 44:44Speaker 1: entire endeavor, which is really really cool because again, like
- 44:49Speaker 1: one of the big things in the Rise of Skywalker
- 44:54Speaker 1: is that, like or at the very end of Last
- 44:57Speaker 1: Jedi going into Rise of Skywalker, we see all of
- 45:03Speaker 1: Luke's books in the Millennium Falcon. So Ray is somebody
- 45:08Speaker 1: who wants to learn a lot, and that's also touched
- 45:10Speaker 1: on in this book. How like she loves to study
- 45:15Speaker 1: and I really really enjoyed that about her. And so
- 45:19Speaker 1: in this book, when they go to this tomb, when
- 45:23Speaker 1: they go into these caves, they find holocrons, and so
- 45:27Speaker 1: she is recur like she's constantly watching these Holocrons to
- 45:32Speaker 1: learn what's going on, and this is where they learn
- 45:35Speaker 1: about this Dark Side User, this sith that wanted basically
- 45:41Speaker 1: redemption and wanted to, you know, learn about the the
- 45:46Speaker 1: the good side of the force, the light side of
- 45:48Speaker 1: the Force. But in these Holocrons, they never mention her name, right.
- 46:02Speaker 2: And that's because the whole time going through they they
- 46:06Speaker 2: so they have her dark side name that her master
- 46:09Speaker 2: gave to her, but her whole the Dark Side User.
- 46:13Speaker 2: She goes through the entire thing, and the little snippets
- 46:15Speaker 2: that we see in the Hollows, she's trying to find
- 46:20Speaker 2: the original name that she was given at birth that
- 46:23Speaker 2: her master wiped from her brain. And I find it
- 46:28Speaker 2: very iconic or not iconic ironic that that's a similar
- 46:34Speaker 2: parallel to what Ray goes through with her name, because
- 46:39Speaker 2: she's like, I'm Ray Nobody, and it's just a whole trend,
- 46:44Speaker 2: the whole way through, And I bet you, like in
- 46:49Speaker 2: the Holocrons in the Hollows that aren't mentioned. Ray eventually
- 46:54Speaker 2: finds that she accepts a new name and accepts that
- 46:58Speaker 2: she's somebody brand new, and that's the inspiration for Race Skywalker.
- 47:04Speaker 1: At the end, well, there's there's two because the other
- 47:09Speaker 1: inspiration is I truly believe from Leah herself.
- 47:16Speaker 2: Yeah, because Leah says, basically, Leah basically tells her you're
- 47:20Speaker 2: part of the family.
- 47:21Speaker 1: Yeah. There's there's a line at the very end of
- 47:23Speaker 1: the book because the one big mission of Raise is
- 47:29Speaker 1: to fix the light, the Kyper Crystal from the last
- 47:35Speaker 1: Jedi at the end. I'm not going to tell you
- 47:39Speaker 1: how she does it, but in the end she does
- 47:43Speaker 1: renew it because of course it's in the Rise of
- 47:49Speaker 1: Skywalker when it's said and done and she like shows
- 47:54Speaker 1: it off to everybody. Uh, there's a line that basically
- 48:02Speaker 1: Leah says, like, oh, you already know that it is
- 48:05Speaker 1: with a Skywalker essentially, is what she said. Yes, So
- 48:10Speaker 1: that right there, I think basically is Roe saying like, oh,
- 48:18Speaker 1: even before, like even though she still struggles, because again,
- 48:22Speaker 1: that's the entire story of Star Wars, is that there's
- 48:25Speaker 1: always a struggle between the light and dark. That even
- 48:29Speaker 1: though Ray is struggling through the Rise of Skywalker, that
- 48:36Speaker 1: she is knowing that she is a Skywalker. And I
- 48:39Speaker 1: think truly the reason being is the constant conflict between
- 48:46Speaker 1: her and Ben, her and Kylo Wrinn because everything's all
- 48:53Speaker 1: hunky dory. Everything's all hunky dory. She's no longer like
- 48:58Speaker 1: super strong with Ben, and that is because she herself
- 49:02Speaker 1: is not looking for that connection. And then there's something
- 49:06Speaker 1: at the end of the at the end of the
- 49:07Speaker 1: story that kind of reignites it again. Not going to
- 49:11Speaker 1: share how and I can only assume that because she
- 49:19Speaker 1: opened the floodgates. Basically, that is how it starts happening
- 49:25Speaker 1: again at the very beginning of the Rise of Skywalker. So, like,
- 49:31Speaker 1: I think Road did very well with connecting the Last
- 49:35Speaker 1: Chati to the Rise of Skywalker.
- 49:39Speaker 2: And I think a lot of a lot of people's
- 49:41Speaker 2: problem with the Rise of Skywalker is because they're not
- 49:45Speaker 2: used to, hey, we have a break between movies kind
- 49:48Speaker 2: of thing. Something happened between these things, and that like
- 49:54Speaker 2: eventually we'll find out, hopefully it'll get pensioned in the movie.
- 49:57Speaker 2: People don't understand that nowadays. And and also they fell
- 50:00Speaker 2: trapped to oh, well, the Force Awakens takes place right
- 50:03Speaker 2: before the Last Jedi, and they're all like they're literally
- 50:07Speaker 2: connected by hours. Nothing happened before the last Jedi from
- 50:11Speaker 2: the Force Awakens. So they set a precedent and then
- 50:16Speaker 2: they changed it. So I think that's most people's issue,
- 50:23Speaker 2: most most the general population of fans nowadays. I think
- 50:30Speaker 2: that most people's problem with the Rise of Skywalker. Yeah,
- 50:33Speaker 2: if you have if you haven't a different problem, obviously,
- 50:36Speaker 2: that's fine. I'm just saying, like I think people don't
- 50:38Speaker 2: understand that timeskit Ah, What did you think about Master
- 50:46Speaker 2: Wreath Silas being mentioned at the front of the book.
- 50:55Speaker 1: Hold On, hold On.
- 50:56Speaker 2: There is so C three po trans something and it's
- 51:01Speaker 2: basically like it's a hidden passage that he found that
- 51:06Speaker 2: was in code and it was not necessarily Silas's padawan,
- 51:11Speaker 2: but somebody who was working with Wreath, and he says
- 51:16Speaker 2: Master Silas says that the temple will the temples in
- 51:21Speaker 2: question will reveal themselves to those who need it. But
- 51:25Speaker 2: I think these are too valuable to lose. And he
- 51:28Speaker 2: talks about the fore or the person who's writing the
- 51:31Speaker 2: letter talks about the forge and the font.
- 51:36Speaker 1: I totally missed that, what.
- 51:41Speaker 2: Yep.
- 51:44Speaker 1: I think that's amazing. More so because we had even
- 51:50Speaker 1: said that at the end of the highblic the the initiative,
- 52:03Speaker 1: at least we had even said what does this mean
- 52:08Speaker 1: for Silas and because there was so much dark ship
- 52:16Speaker 1: in that tomb, I think this goes into our predictions
- 52:24Speaker 1: of Silas being super curious about the dark side.
- 52:33Speaker 2: Yeah, and trying to save Aslan.
- 52:36Speaker 1: Yeah. I think this puts more into our theory. Yep,
- 52:45Speaker 1: I'm am totally do it. That's amazing. Yeah.
- 52:50Speaker 2: I was like, Oh, it's real, It's it's.
- 52:55Speaker 1: I was like, I'm so I missed that. I'm gonna
- 52:58Speaker 1: I'm gonna have to try to focus a little bit
- 53:00Speaker 1: harder on my on my reread. That's awesome.
- 53:09Speaker 2: So yeah, there's that connection. Uh, we get the Church
- 53:13Speaker 2: of the Forest again with like Laura Santeca mentions, so
- 53:19Speaker 2: just continuing to connect the sequel trilogy up. I also
- 53:25Speaker 2: loved the exploration into Hayes, which is Roseu Tico's home planet,
- 53:33Speaker 2: but also the Hazian Smelt because I never really understood,
- 53:38Speaker 2: like I loved the while Hayes Minor was going through
- 53:43Speaker 2: like issues with the Force Order and like being basically
- 53:46Speaker 2: demolished and like stripped of all resources. I loved that
- 53:51Speaker 2: we got that exploration and that detail because Hazian Smelt
- 53:56Speaker 2: is just kind of like a throw off in the
- 53:59Speaker 2: Last Jedi when the code breaker. Dude who's not really
- 54:06Speaker 2: the code breaker is like, oh, you could have it
- 54:08Speaker 2: back now. I just needed it for its conductive properties.
- 54:14Speaker 2: So I dug that we got to dig in to
- 54:19Speaker 2: that aspect. And while Rose doesn't make appearances in this
- 54:24Speaker 2: I did appreciate that we got that little bit of
- 54:29Speaker 2: history about her home planet.
- 54:32Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I I dug that as well. They're like
- 54:39Speaker 1: I will I will admit I think that they did
- 54:43Speaker 1: do Roe did service to like still include those side
- 54:51Speaker 1: characters in a sense of like, oh, hey, they're not
- 54:55Speaker 1: going to be the bigger part of the story, but
- 54:57Speaker 1: they're around, you.
- 54:58Speaker 2: Know, and that really matters when it comes down to
- 55:03Speaker 2: such an intimate story as this one was. Yes, do
- 55:06Speaker 2: you need your first order villain representative? Yes? Do you
- 55:10Speaker 2: need that side character that kind of gives our main
- 55:14Speaker 2: characters the motivation to continue forward? Yes, but that the
- 55:19Speaker 2: other characters still exists, and I love like that little
- 55:21Speaker 2: bit of play that we got on Pekara for that.
- 55:29Speaker 2: I don't believe there were any LGBTQ characters.
- 55:33Speaker 1: Uh not that I would have to do a reread,
- 55:38Speaker 1: but nothing.
- 55:38Speaker 2: It might have been one of the refugees, like a couple.
- 55:44Speaker 1: Yeah, there was nothing really in your face about it.
- 55:46Speaker 1: And and when I say in your face, there there's
- 55:51Speaker 1: it may have just been a side conversation, that's what
- 55:55Speaker 1: I read, and not really a prominent character. But you
- 56:00Speaker 1: you talk, you mentioned intimate and I did have a
- 56:04Speaker 1: highlight which I thought was wrong. Okay, there is a
- 56:11Speaker 1: oh what chapter is this? This is chapter because I
- 56:15Speaker 1: have it highlighted. This is chapter twenty five.
- 56:23Speaker 3: And it says here, uh.
- 56:31Speaker 1: I think this is Ray talking about her connection with
- 56:43Speaker 1: ben ben okay, or like reminiscing or like kind of
- 56:48Speaker 1: talking about the past or whatever. And she said uh.
- 56:53Speaker 1: When she had the strength to look again, she couldn't
- 56:55Speaker 1: allow her gaze to reach his face. It occurred to
- 56:58Speaker 1: her that she had never seen his toes before. There
- 57:02Speaker 1: was a private, domestic intimacy to it, and as he
- 57:07Speaker 1: came near, she could make out the minuscule black hairs
- 57:13Speaker 1: that start started just where his pants cuffs met the ankles.
- 57:26Speaker 1: And I just I laughed when I was like to think,
- 57:34Speaker 1: and and I do think in some cultures, like feet,
- 57:38Speaker 1: like seeing each other's feet is like a sense of intimacy.
- 57:43Speaker 1: But like reading it out loud, I was like, that's funny,
- 57:47Speaker 1: Like like, especially when we talk about their connection.
- 57:54Speaker 2: In like.
- 57:56Speaker 1: Just conversation about the last Jedi, everybody always like talks
- 58:02Speaker 1: about how kylo Ren was always shirtless. Yeah, it's like
- 58:08Speaker 1: it's like, that's not the intimate part. It's the toes.
- 58:14Speaker 2: It's because the shirt is always off.
- 58:17Speaker 1: It's not it's not the abs, it's not the nipples,
- 58:20Speaker 1: it's not the collarbone. It's the toes. That's the So
- 58:27Speaker 1: I thought that was really silly, and I kind of
- 58:30Speaker 1: laughed about it. I had some notations just for the
- 58:35Speaker 1: fact of like just some random thoughts that I had
- 58:38Speaker 1: in my head. There's one where Gav is like, well,
- 58:43Speaker 1: can't you just like fly? Because the conversation about like
- 58:51Speaker 1: how the stories of the Jedi are really lost to
- 58:55Speaker 1: the universe and so there's a lot of people who
- 58:58Speaker 1: just don't know what a Jedi is, what they can
- 59:02Speaker 1: do and everything else. And there's a moment where when
- 59:06Speaker 1: he asks her, well can you fly? Like she's all really,
- 59:11Speaker 1: she's all really super serious, closes our close their eyes,
- 59:14Speaker 1: and starts flapping our arms. It's like, am I doing it?
- 59:17Speaker 1: Am I doing it? Am I flying? Am I flying?
- 59:21Speaker 1: So I was and I really love it.
- 59:23Speaker 2: That was one moment that I could, in fact picture
- 59:26Speaker 2: Daisy Bridley doing that and like in a really serious voice,
- 59:32Speaker 2: it's like, am I doing it? Am I doing it?
- 59:37Speaker 1: I also highlighted just because we're having this conversation, well
- 59:41Speaker 1: the technically the side story in the New Jedi Order
- 59:46Speaker 1: books has ended. This kind of reminded me of that
- 59:51Speaker 1: side story. Have you ever noticed that when C three
- 59:56Speaker 1: Po is in danger, not only in the books but
- 59:59Speaker 1: in the movies, he mentions the Maker. He's He's like,
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: oh Maker, like and it's just because of the conversation
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: that we're having in the The Jedi Order. It is
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: just it's so funny too have C three Po so
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: cognitive to his existence that like he's like, hey, I
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: could die. Like it's it's not just being shut off.
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: I could die. So I thought, you know, let's put
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: that down there. I saw a post the other day
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: about how and Or canotically canonized the word shit, and
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: so the word shit appears one time in this book. Yeah,
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: I have it right here. In chapter twenty five. It
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: is Ziff's character. Okay, he's talking to Gav and he
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: says nobody, nobody drowning or crackling their heads open, or
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: breaking their bones or dealing with the rest of this
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: creepy shit. Okay, run and get the back to It's
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: the least you can do, Jedi. Is that that's what
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: so canonizing the word shit in Star Wars, it's we
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: now have to at least two I have to go
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: back and see how many times the word shit is
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: said in Star Wars now. And one thing I mentioned
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: at the very beginning of this review, and I want
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: to mention it now because it is part of the
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: Last Jedi and the one thing that is kind of
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: like and I and I said it before with Kylo Ren.
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: I think it's because the floodgates open. But we learn
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: that this being, this person at one point, even a
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: little girl that that right hears is herself. And this
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: is a darker version of herself. And we've seen this
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: darker version of herself in the Last Jedi or sorry,
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: excuse me, in the Rise of the Skywalker. In this book, though,
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: there's a moment where she kind of like welcomes them in,
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: like the think of think of Sherlock Holmes and like
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: the Mind Palace the BBC show and how he has
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: his own mind Palace. She creates her own mind palace
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: of Jack Coot, which I think is really cool. She
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: kind of recreates Jacku. She goes into her little at
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: eight and she welcomes her in and with them, and
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: there's a conversation and she's like, Okay, you guys are
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: going to be here and I'm going to go peace out.
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: And that is essentially her like making peace yep with
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: her enter demons. Essentially, There's a lot more that goes
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: into it. You'll have to read the story to really
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: understand it. But because of her making peace with her
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: entertamons again, why would she then see her evil self
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: in the last Jedi that I think Skywalker sorry, in
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: the Rise of Skywalker. And as I'm even saying, I
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: think I'm already coming up with with the with the
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: example or with the resolution to this, it might be
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: because of the just dark side essence of what she's
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: on that planet with the dagger looking for what she's
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: looking for.
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: Where the original spirit of Palpatine died.
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: Exactly the right around the corner. So so you're dealing
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: with a lot of dark side stuff, and you can
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: even explain the surpriseness of it because she essentially the
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: idea is hey, I made peace with you, why are
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: you here? Kind of surprise, so that.
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: But also remembering that her dark side self was kind
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: of her warning for when things were happening on Tython
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: and so kind of also like knowing, hey, why are
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: you here, but like also like hmmm, you're here, what's
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: going to happen? And then then comes right out, So.
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: So that that does that does actually work out, so
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: again it it just it just takes me some time
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: to think it through. So so there is that.
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: We haven't talked about the first order rep in this book,
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: but I really don't think she needs a whole lot
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: of conversation. I didn't have a whole lot on her.
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: I felt like she has average first order but like
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: interested in kind of how the turn takes at the end,
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: which we won't talk about because that's too interesting.
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: But the thing with me is like they set her
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: up just like they kind of do in any and
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: all other Star Wars books. It's like, oh, I could
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: have gotten away with it too if it wasn't for
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: those meddling kids type of ordeal in the very beginning,
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: and like we know through the formula of every other
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: Star Wars book, they exact their revenge and then it
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: doesn't end up very well, and then you know whatever.
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: The only problem with this is, and this is a
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: very minor spoiler, she never interacts with our heroes, and
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: I think that is the bigger issue. But honestly, you
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: take her story out of this entire book, the book
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: is I think even better, more so because then you
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: can use those pages to elaborate more story like that.
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: I don't think you can take her story out because
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: of Zef's motivation, Jef and Gaff's motivation. It gives too
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: much backstory to them and why they're doing what they're doing.
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: There's nothing special about the Major.
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, even because even if I was gonna say, like, oh,
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: but what if you kind of just like never know
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: their motivation and then it just gets a little clunky.
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: So yeah, I hear what you're.
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: Saying, and I will say I do find it interesting.
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: This is the one interesting thing about the Major is
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: she actually volunteered for the First Order as a kid.
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: She was not kidnapped and taken off planet by the
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: First Order. She volunteered as the one interesting thing and
- 1:07:43Speaker 2: that's what makes the turn at the end that happens
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: so interesting. Again, I'm not gonna go into that because
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: that's a pivotal moment there. But that's what I have
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: to say about the major The only other thing that
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: I really wanted to talk about other than the thing
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: we're going to talk about at the very end where
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: we're going to disclaim spoilers about the second cameo is
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: Leya's visions. Oh yes, yes, I loved this concept because
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: in my head, we have, guys, we have a what
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: if episode coming up at the end of the year,
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: and I've been thinking about topics. The one thing that
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: I had so far before before even reading this book, guys,
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: the one thing I knew that I wanted to talk about.
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: What if Leya had ignored her vision about that her
- 1:08:45Speaker 2: bloodline would die whatever the exact vision was, like, she
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: needed to take care of her kids. Yes, so what
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: if she had ignored that bit a Jedi?
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: Yeah, in the last right, it was in the last Jediywalker. Oh,
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: that's right, because her lightsaber is introduced in the Rise
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: of Skywalker, they have the flashback. There is a moment
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: where Leah tells Luke, Hey, if I continue on with
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: my training, hm, we're all gonna die. Essentially, and we
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: get that what if episode here in little snippets, but like,
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: it's so fun because the way that they introduce it
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: into the story, there's no there's no warning, there is
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: no Oh Leah drifted off to sleep and then blah
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: blah blah blah. No, it's just boom. We're in this
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: middle of the thing, bins here, Ley is here, there's
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: a lightsaber fighting boom whoa, Leah wakes up. You're like,
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: what the yeah, ye exactly. There's just like there's all
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: these different things happening, and it happens I think a
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: total of three or four times in this book.
- 1:10:08Speaker 4: Uh.
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: I dig this a lot.
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: I loved it because again, I've wanted to know the
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: story and we don't want we don't get an ending,
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: we don't get.
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: That vision completely, we.
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: Don't get a complete vision here. I loved the what
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: if aspect and I love that Tython was kind of
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: playing with her, and in the same way it's playing
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: with Ray with Ray's visions about Ben about the Hunter,
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: really exploring hey, like what does that mean to you?
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: Like how does this help you grow as a person?
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: And in this Leah recognized that she could be that
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: Master ultimately, but it was not meant to be to
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: her son. It was meant to be to Ray. Whereas
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: Ray's vision is, hey, let me accept my dark side
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: and recognize that I can control it and I am
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: in charge. Yeah, And I just thought that was perfect.
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: So we we do have the moments with those visions,
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: and they kind of coincide with these conversations with Luke, right,
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: and like you said, it is a like, oh, we
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: basically lose. Luke says like, hey, stop thinking about the past.
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: It's already the past essentially. But my question is why
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: even show us what does this mean? Right? Have we
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: ever gotten something like this before? I don't think so,
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: like with any other Master in like it's the prequel
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: era or anything like, because like it's like, I guess
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: we haven't really had time quote unquote yeah with the
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: different eras of Star Wars, or at least Lucasfilm has
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: not given or Lucasfilm Publishing has not given anybody time
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: to really give anybody that power. I think it's fun.
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: And again, Lucas right, it's like, hey, well more, so
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: let me back up, because I was only ten chapters
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: in when Katie is like, oh, I have a theory,
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: A and I think your theory does have to deal
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: with these flashbacks Simma, right or no, no, no, oh, okay.
- 1:13:19Speaker 2: Well they have to deal with the Reed Silas quote
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: at the beginning with the forge and the font and
- 1:13:26Speaker 2: where actually the major is real is transferred in the
- 1:13:30Speaker 2: story as chesspeed. Yes, and we find out that Kylo
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: Rin is in the system and he's hunting for Jedi
- 1:13:38Speaker 2: facts and basically like history, he's been to Jedda.
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: He's Are you about to tell me that Ree Silas
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: is going to be the reason why Ben Solo comes back?
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: I don't think so, because he would not have had
- 1:13:56Speaker 2: the same quote about that.
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: I think, yeah.
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: I just think he knows. He probably found something on
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: Jetta that led him to chest Pea for the font,
- 1:14:12Speaker 2: and that is going to be the fall of Kylo
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: Rinn comic book that is coming out starting I believe
- 1:14:18Speaker 2: in September.
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: Yes, okay, that was my theory. Okay, because like I
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: was about to say, I was like, if Silas did
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: figure out a way to save somebody from the dark side,
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: that would be kind of cool. But again, like if
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: we're saving Ben, he's already saved from the dark side.
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: That doesn't necessarily it doesn't work that way. It doesn't
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: work that way. But yeah, like I I I really
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: did see. Now you're convincing me to put it in
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: my top five.
- 1:15:06Speaker 2: That's what I'm here for. I need y'all. I need
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: Madeline rue Rowe to write another Star Wars book because
- 1:15:16Speaker 2: her Brian her Brio Organa story in from a certain
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: point of view.
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: That was her Okay, okay, okay, sob okay okay. So
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: if that's the case, we've gotten an Organa story, We've
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: gotten a ray Lea story. If you were the deciding
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: factor on where she goes next, what would you have her? Right?
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: That's a tough question, yeah, like because you can't necessarily say, like, oh,
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: a race story because as of right now, unfortunately we
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: don't know the plans for ray right correct. And I
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: think this just puts a really really beautiful bow on
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: the sequel trilogy as we know it. I think it's
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: I think it does very very good. So what do
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: you think? What do you think?
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: I'm really off the top of my head, I'm feeling
- 1:16:49Speaker 2: m h. I kind of want to say, like a
- 1:16:55Speaker 2: Padme story, but I feel like we've gotten all of
- 1:16:58Speaker 2: the Padme stories. H I.
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: Mm hmmm. Is there We never really got a confirmation
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: of how long they train Luke and Leah, right.
- 1:17:24Speaker 2: I could see it, so we know it was six months.
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: Six months. We do know that for a fact. Yeah.
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: Could we get a story within those six months, a
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: Luke and leya adventure?
- 1:17:48Speaker 2: I don't think so. No, because they've kind of bookended
- 1:17:54Speaker 2: it already with the Star Wars comics and the Princess
- 1:17:59Speaker 2: and this scoundrel. Uh.
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a really tight.
- 1:18:05Speaker 2: Because she said in this story, I think it was
- 1:18:10Speaker 2: the story that she was growing Ben while they were training. Yeah,
- 1:18:20Speaker 2: so I feel like Battle of Jack who Star Wars
- 1:18:24Speaker 2: comic and the Princess and the Scoundrel kind of bookends that. Yeah,
- 1:18:28Speaker 2: it's very it's a very tight window.
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: Yeah, if that.
- 1:18:35Speaker 2: Is the case of where it was, I for some reason,
- 1:18:38Speaker 2: I have that she was pregnant with Ben while she
- 1:18:40Speaker 2: was training. I don't know that.
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: If that is the case, why not.
- 1:18:53Speaker 2: And Ahsoka story, Dave Filoni's not gonna let anybody touch Soka.
- 1:19:00Speaker 2: I have like stopped thinking about a potential Ofhsoka stories.
- 1:19:05Speaker 2: I just don't think he's gonna let anybody touch her.
- 1:19:09Speaker 2: Not especially especially after the and now I don't know
- 1:19:15Speaker 2: if he considered this harsh reviews or like, I can't
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: think of the word, but like, I don't think so
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: because of like the Tales of the Jedi, Yeah, and
- 1:19:30Speaker 2: like Ahsoka story crossover, he wants to be able to
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: control her story, and so I just don't think, well,
- 1:19:39Speaker 2: I think it's staring As in the face. Then yeah, yes,
- 1:19:46Speaker 2: have her right reath Silas's story with Aslen Brell. Have
- 1:19:50Speaker 2: that resolution right there. I think that's the plan.
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: I think I think that is a solid plan. Okay,
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: I think that would work out perfectly.
- 1:20:03Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, so I think that takes us through everything.
- 1:20:08Speaker 2: But the second cameo.
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: Yes, so we're at an hour and nineteen minutes, give
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: or take thirty seconds or so, depending on where I
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: cut the this mention at the very beginning of the
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: of the episode and the phone call I had to take,
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: and the phone call I was kind of talking through it.
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: So it's totally fine. I am going to give you
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: guys ten seconds and then we are going to jump
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: into the biggest cameo of this story. Ready nine eight seven, six,
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: five four three two one, All right, spoilers right now,
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: mother fucking Anakin Skywalker shows up in this book, Katie,
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: in big bold, all caps, we thought he was gone
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: for good. In the Shadow of Seth, there is a
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: moment where Luke is having a very dramatic, very intense
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: force fight with the dark Side and on tython, on tython,
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: and then here comes Anakin Skywalker, like a superhero in
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: a superhero movie in all white just boom scares off
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: the dark Side basically and shows up. And it kind
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: of like makes it seem like the way he's fading
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: away in that story, that like he used so much
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: energy yep, that he was gone for good. That's how
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: we had spoken about it in our review. We're like, oh, man,
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: that was like such a cool moment. It was, you know,
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: his last hurrah, saving his son, all of this stuff,
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: and then all of a sudden, Ray is dying. Basically. Uh.
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: She she said, Hey, I'm gonna go for a walk
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: and then never stopped.
- 1:22:38Speaker 2: And on the top of a snowy mountain, freezing because
- 1:22:41Speaker 2: she did not bring her jacket.
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: Yeah, and I love I love it because I guys, uh,
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: Luke's film publishing and any in any and all future writers,
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: you cannot write Anakin Skywalker and not think that any
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: real fan of Star Wars is not going to sniff
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: him out before his name is said.
- 1:23:08Speaker 2: Okay, but like you're gonna laugh at me because it
- 1:23:14Speaker 2: took me a hot minute. That was a good skyliker.
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: I'm listening.
- 1:23:26Speaker 2: I'm listening to the chapter today and I'm like, how
- 1:23:31Speaker 2: did I miss it? How did I miss it? Because
- 1:23:34Speaker 2: he like he goes through all these flashbacks of like pregnancy, marriage,
- 1:23:42Speaker 2: growing up with his mom, hugging his mama, she died,
- 1:23:46Speaker 2: like all these things, and I'm like, how did how?
- 1:23:52Speaker 2: Why did I take so long to figure out that
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: I was an a good skylooker?
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: But there was like one of the first things is
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: stumbled towards him, he moved aside as he reached. As
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: she reached his place between the trees, his robes reminded
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: her of Luke and I immediately I was like, Anakin,
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: you beautiful bastard. And then I was like, wait, is
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: Obi wan Kenobi about to show himself to her? I
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: was in between both and then warmer tones, brown and tan,
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: young and handsome. I was like, is Obi showing himself
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: as a young Obi?
- 1:24:42Speaker 4: Wan?
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: Like no? And then it said, of course ageless a
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: scar slashed through his right eyebrow, and I was like, Anakin,
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: you son of a bitch, welcome back.
- 1:24:55Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I totally missed that, but I think it
- 1:25:00Speaker 2: was necessary because, like he flat out tells her you
- 1:25:05Speaker 2: through the Crystal way, you don't need it back, Yeah,
- 1:25:10Speaker 2: like you don't need it if you want it sure, And.
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: I will say I know a lot of people made
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: debate on how they like, I would really love to
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: like talk to Roe about this because the way he
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: talks to her. I immediately thought Clone Wars Anakin Skywalker,
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: not prequel Anakin Skywalker, not Revenge of the Sith Skywalker,
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: not Hayden Christensen. I immediately thought Clone Wars. Yeah, like
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: like this. I was like, this is fun. I really
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: like this, which is crazy to think about it. Anakin
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: super well, yeah she does, which is like, I'm pretty
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: sure I'll have to go back. I think Anakin was
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: written as a little bit older in Shadows of Sith.
- 1:26:27Speaker 2: But I think that goes back to the to what
- 1:26:31Speaker 2: Luke says, and it may be that this happened, but
- 1:26:35Speaker 2: how Luke says, you know, I've had I've had time,
- 1:26:41Speaker 2: and time doesn't work the same.
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: Yeah, did we get.
- 1:26:46Speaker 2: Anakin before he helped Luke in Shadows?
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: That's crazy. That is so crazy to think about.
- 1:26:57Speaker 2: Now, I think you could take that that way.
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: Yeah, that is so crazy. But I love this. I
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: love this cameo. And I love this cameo because of
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: the implications, because because I think even Ray no, no, no,
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: it was Leah. Leah mentioned it near the end of
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: the book about like, oh like because again talking about Ben.
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: You can't just sway somebody from the dark side. It's
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: not that easy. My father did it at the very
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: end of his life, you know, type of ordeal. And
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: I just love the implication of Anakin Skywalker himself talking
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: to Ray because whenever Ray ever has a doubt in
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: her mind, she can always remember Anakin freaking Skywalker, like
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: of all people, he's the one that spoke to.
- 1:28:20Speaker 2: Yeah. And it also makes that connection. At the end
- 1:28:26Speaker 2: of the Rise of Skywalker, when you hear all those voices,
- 1:28:30Speaker 2: people are like, well, what has she done to deserve that? Like,
- 1:28:32Speaker 2: where is the connection there? Yeah, Anakin's already talked to
- 1:28:36Speaker 2: her and he brought all his friends to come support her.
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: Yeah, beautiful, beautiful. I loved it, absolutely loved it.
- 1:28:47Speaker 2: Perfect book, perfect ways to use Easter eggs and cameos
- 1:28:52Speaker 2: to the benefit of a book without it feeling overdone.
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: Mm hm.
- 1:28:57Speaker 2: And purposeful, totally purpose full to the book.
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: I agree. Uh And I think that's it. I think
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: that is for our review. I think we we left enough.
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: We we one. I do want to give a shout
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: out two quite possibly one of the coolest characters in
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: this entire book. Uh Mika. Yeah, Micah, adorable little child.
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: I don't even remember what species she is uh okay
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: uh And it's Meeta, It's m E E p k
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: a absolutely adorable. Completely reminds me of of amber Lain
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: because she gets in all sorts of trouble. She thinks
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: she's like on top of the world. She thinks she
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: can do anything. And there was a really scary part
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: at the end of this book, and I was like, you,
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: son of a bitch, don't do it. But there's a resolution,
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: there's there's like it is there's a resolution to it. Again,
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: not gonna spoil it, but it was great. I I
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: really really enjoyed this book. I'm now gonna have to
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: sit down and actually see what my favorite books are.
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: That's what we need to do like, do you see
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: I'm sure you've seen them the tier lists.
- 1:30:45Speaker 2: We've done it before.
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: We have done it before, that's right, we need to
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: oh gosh.
- 1:30:52Speaker 2: At the end of the year, let's plan to do
- 1:30:54Speaker 2: it again.
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: Let's yeah, we'll have to plan to do it again
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: this time with all of the books that we have
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: currently read. Man, I need I need to go back
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: and see because I can't remember if we did it
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: on a live show or if we like recorded it.
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: But but it was for sure an episode on the podcast. Yep,
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: So we're we're gonna have to I'm gonna have to
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: look to see what my old one was and really
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: kind of reevaluate because man, this book was good. This
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: book was good. Yeah. But yeah, guys, that does it.
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: This is the end of the episode. Again, we do
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: have other things. We are planning on being live next week.
- 1:31:47Speaker 2: Not next week, not next week week after because we're
- 1:31:52Speaker 2: talking about ayes like stars, we're doing that pre recorded.
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: Ah, so yes, So this will be the first of
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: two pre recorded episodes. So next week we will also
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: have a pre recorded episode. I was like, Stars, get
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: excited for it. But yeah, we have were reading guys,
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: We're doing a lot of reading this week this month
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: because we still also have trader for our Patreon for

- 1:32:40Speaker 1: By the time we're recording this tomorrow Sunday, Jake and
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: I are finally recording an episode after almost a month.
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: We're gonna be talking about, of course, Gavin Infinity, and
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: of course we've kind of turned that into a like
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: TCG talk in the beginning because those episod have been
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: so short. But this episode we're gonna be covering like
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: five different episodes, so I don't think we're gonna have
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: much time to talk about Pokemon cards and all that,
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: So go check that out. But the time you're listening
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: to this, it's already been posted, so go have some
