- 0:00Is there any sort of sense of relief in the sense of you were
- 0:03so you had the speed here in October and you come back and
- 0:06it's still there? Yeah, I would say it's a relief
- 0:10for sure and and to the point I mentioned it, it's really fun to
- 0:14be a part of with all the folks at Chevrolet.
- 0:15Right now we don't have a new submission and and we know the
- 0:17other OEMs do and and everyone at Chevrolet, everyone at
- 0:20Hindricks Motorsports like our our sense of urgency is there.
- 0:24Like we know that we've got to keep evolving you know kind of
- 0:27like I mentioned to Jeff just the continuity of our stuff and
- 0:29and keep understanding our stuff better.
- 0:31So we so we still have to push you know we we still made set up
- 0:34changes from the fall to here because we didn't quite have the
- 0:37long run pace that some other guys had in the fall.
- 0:39I would still argue we needed a little bit more today.
- 0:42We've got to keep evolving and and we've got to keep pushing.
- 0:44So to to your direct question, yes it was, it was a relief, but
- 0:48certainly not not satisfied. And because you won this week,
- 0:52will that impact anything on maybe how you start practice
- 0:55next week with the with the new diffuser?
- 0:58Will you maybe go in a route just to see because since you
- 1:03kind of have a win in the bank now?
- 1:05Totally valid question that the cake is mostly baked for
- 1:09everyone's Phoenix stuff. The cars are going to leave
- 1:11Tuesday morning, so in in the next 24 hours there's just not a
- 1:14lot that you're going to do different to the cars from the
- 1:16shop prep. You know when we get there I'm
- 1:18I'm sure there's things that we may talk through and look at
- 1:20with our team mates of of trying to be the most helpful for the
- 1:23practice plan since you have a full practice.
- 1:26The one thing that I am surprised about and and to tip
- 1:29you guys off a little bit for next week is is some of the the
- 1:31Arrow map of that car and and things that you kind of have to
- 1:34look at different from the conventional Arrow map of the
- 1:38next Gen. car. So it's actually going to be
- 1:39exciting to get to go you know play that out and and see how it
- 1:42goes. The the drivers were really
- 1:44positive at the test that we were part of in December,
- 1:47January whenever it was just of what that air package was going
- 1:50to be in and we've got to do stuff stuff different to
- 1:53accommodate that. So to be honest with you, it's a
- 1:55bit of an unknown for everyone did.
- 1:57You get that arrow map from the wheel force.
- 2:00Test it's it's been evolving. So the, you know we we knew some
- 2:03of the arrow of what that was because it wasn't really on the
- 2:07plan that actual configuration wasn't on the original test plan
- 2:11for the December test. I think it was December and and
- 2:14it was very late in day 2 after feedback from the drivers of hey
- 2:18we we want this spoiler and and let's try this diffuser again
- 2:22that I applaud NASCAR, they they completely listen to the
- 2:25feedback of the drivers. Hey let's bolt it on and go do
- 2:27some more group runs and it actually works pretty well and
- 2:30and and the drivers liked how they could you know drive the
- 2:33cars a little bit more sideways have a little bit more to lean
- 2:35on And and then to your question Bob, yes, there was a wheel
- 2:39force test. So we've kind of been evolving
- 2:40it from that point. I would imagine everybody's been
- 2:43investigating the same stuff. So yeah, it'll be interesting to
- 2:46see and and obviously we're all optimistic to do anything we can
- 2:49do to improve the, the short track racing.
- 2:52Go over here. Every Gary, you know, the Bravo
- 2:58port cliffs. Ever since you and Kyle have
- 3:00heard up, you've guys got three wins here at this track.
- 3:02Seems like you hit the spot on the setup every time.
- 3:04So what makes this track so special for you too?
- 3:07I would argue a lot of it. He he is so good at tracks with
- 3:10a lot of character. That's a testament to the
- 3:12different types of cars that he drives all the time.
- 3:14He can adapt to to so many different things.
- 3:16You know we're going to see him do that here in in about 3
- 3:19months, which is going to be a lot of fun to watch.
- 3:21He he's so good at moving the different lanes and and how the
- 3:24car reacts in those different situations.
- 3:28I I would argue we haven't had the outright best car every time
- 3:31that we've won. You know, he's done a really
- 3:32good job on restarts and we all know how important clean air is
- 3:36and and yeah, we've given him something that he can drive and
- 3:38and do what he's good at to to go put it in position.
- 3:42Obviously we're now joined by the race winning driver Kyle
- 3:44Larson. We'll go over here and then
- 3:45continue on. Tom Zaleski and County today for
- 3:49you Cliff, how heavy was was your were you relying on your
- 3:53notes from last fall in relation to today or did it play any part
- 3:57in your set up, set up, set ups at all?
- 4:00Yeah it it did a lot and you know the the derivation of where
- 4:03we were today was completely from the fall and and really
- 4:06identifying our weaknesses. You know kind of like I
- 4:09mentioned earlier at the end of the fall race especially at the
- 4:11end of long runs we were we were pretty weak, we had great short
- 4:15run pace but we we didn't have very good long run pace.
- 4:17So we took what that foundation was, we we you know built on it
- 4:21and and and evolved and and I think we closed the gap from
- 4:25short run pace to long run pace a little bit better for today
- 4:28and and we'll look to do more of that for next time as well.
- 4:31Do we have any more questions for Cliff or Jeff go up here to
- 4:36Jeff clock? Like the temptation is to look
- 4:40at this and and try to make big conclusions or jump to
- 4:43conclusions about the whole field, right?
- 4:45So I'm wondering how valid you think that is.
- 4:47Like, if I'm looking at the Stewart Haas cars, you're like
- 4:50Noah had really good speed it seemed like or like the.
- 4:53Sort of the 14. Yes, yeah.
- 4:55And he faded, but he was good for a while And then like the
- 4:57Spire cars, so like, does that, did we see enough today to to
- 5:01think that OK, like they these teams have something to build
- 5:04off of or is this, is it still too early for that at this point
- 5:06do you think? Partially both.
- 5:09But yeah, I mean at the end of the year, you know the Stewart
- 5:11Haas cars weren't always the top five threat and they kind of
- 5:14were at times today, you know the 2311 cars have been really
- 5:18strong at at intermediates they were today, the GGR cars were
- 5:20strong today. My assessment of today when I
- 5:25write my post race notes on the on the plane tonight is going to
- 5:27be that the gap is tighter than what it was in the fall across
- 5:30the field and and and I really believe that and I think you see
- 5:33it just with the different players that were inside the Top
- 5:3614 at any point of the race and and being pretty competitive.
- 5:39There was times I looked through, you know, the top 20 in
- 5:42the leaderboard and and if the leader in a 31 flat 20th ran
- 5:45like a 3110, that's pretty close, yeah.
- 5:50Anything else for Clifford, Jeff?
- 5:53We'll go to Jenna. Identifier AP Jeff Two wins and
- 6:02three races. I know it's two completely
- 6:04different style tracks, but #1 how important is that for
- 6:08Hendrick to get off to that kind of start with two different
- 6:11drivers? And then also Chevrolet remained
- 6:13undefeated at three and O, which I know that they've got to be
- 6:17pretty pleased about. So you've got to be off the hook
- 6:20for a week or so, yeah? For the next three or four days
- 6:25anyways. So yeah obviously a great start
- 6:27for Hendrick Motorsports and you know 2 winning two out of three
- 6:32races here And and I think what we're most proud of is you know
- 6:36what we're doing for Mr. and misses Hendrick this year and
- 6:38this celebration of the 40th year for them and and getting
- 6:42this started this way this this really couldn't go any better.
- 6:45And obviously if we had won last weekend that that would have
- 6:47been the best it could. But I'm just really proud of of
- 6:51the effort that the company is putting in in our dedication and
- 6:54focus you know on our 40th year and and you know Cliff hit on
- 6:57earlier but you know the Chevrolet contingent right now
- 7:01is it is as tight as it's ever been and and the key partner
- 7:05groups and and even outside of that are are working really good
- 7:08together because you know we know we have very little margin
- 7:12here. We know we're up against a a new
- 7:14car with Ford and Toyota and you know we we have to do our best
- 7:18to work together and and keep advancing this car.
- 7:21We're obviously early on in this season here a lot of racing to
- 7:23go and and they they will get there as as Cliff said, you know
- 7:2845 was very good today and you saw a couple Fords up there and
- 7:31and any any time that you change a platform on those cars as much
- 7:35as they've had, it's going to take a little bit of time.
- 7:37But both, both of those OEM certainly have a lot of
- 7:41potential and we're going to have to keep pushing really,
- 7:43really hard to keep ourselves in contention through the early
- 7:46part of the summer here and then set ourselves up for the fall.
- 7:51Jeff, Cliff, congratulations. Thank you for your time and safe
- 7:54travels home.
