- 2:29None. Hello, hello and good evening,
- 3:06everyone. Random stream out of nowhere.
- 3:09Michael Thacker. Yeah, I'm going to explain kind
- 3:12of what's going on here in just a moment.
- 3:15Let some more folks across the world get notified of this
- 3:20hopefully. Again, this was not planned,
- 3:22this was not scheduled. You guys didn't know about this
- 3:25in advance, but thank you to Michael Thacker, Dragon Dancer
- 3:30and Zach on YouTube for first of all coming by and and and
- 3:37catching this live stream. I'm glad that the notifications
- 3:40worked and that you got that that little heads up that
- 3:43YouTube puts out here. But so yeah, this is obviously,
- 3:49you know, a very impromptu thing.
- 3:53So the reason why Really, Actually, real quick, before I
- 3:59give you the reason why, wherever you're watching this,
- 4:01if you're watching this on Facebook, hail and hello to you.
- 4:05If you're watching this on YouTube, go ahead and do a quick
- 4:07share of this video please if you don't mind.
- 4:10If you have social media platforms of your you know of
- 4:13your own, your personal profiles, go ahead and give this
- 4:16video a quick share. And you know, if you got groups
- 4:20or anything that you want to share it too as well, because
- 4:23this is going to be this week's Random Heathen Ramblings podcast
- 4:27episode. We're going to be taking live
- 4:29comments that come through here, post them up on the screen.
- 4:34So this is going to be an interesting change of pace for
- 4:38this week. I'm going to explain why here in
- 4:42just a minute. So Halen, welcome to you all.
- 4:44My name is. Jesse, this is.
- 4:46A Random Heathen Ramblings live stream for the Random Heathen
- 4:50Ramblings podcast, which I religiously and regularly post
- 4:56content on every week every Thursday mornings.
- 4:58If you guys have been following my my Socials for any length of
- 5:02time, the the podcast has been aired airing on Thursday
- 5:06mornings for years now. This is season five.
- 5:12Give this video a like, share. Do all the fun things you know.
- 5:15Just let the algorithm know that you know it needs to Kick It Out
- 5:18to some more people. Don't know exactly how long
- 5:21we'll be streaming for, but so why am I doing this live stream
- 5:27today for this week's podcast? I know a lot of folks watch or
- 5:33listen to my podcast on Spotify and all the other audio
- 5:36platforms, but the video version of the podcast is only for the
- 5:45Patreon supporters. So if you're a Patreon
- 5:48supporter, I know Michael is And anyone else on Facebook, what's
- 5:52up, Amelia? Amelia was just a guest on last
- 5:56week's episode. She is the.
- 5:57Gidia or the river pine Kindred there in Texarkana, TX.
- 6:01So Halen, welcome to you Amelia. Thanks for stopping by and
- 6:04watching. But so why am I doing this right
- 6:08now on a Monday or you know in in in video format.
- 6:14We're still going to get the audio for this out on the
- 6:20Spotify platforms and everything.
- 6:21So this will be the the episode for this week.
- 6:24But the reason why we're doing it live here right now is
- 6:28because the guests that I had scheduled to speak with today, I
- 6:35I mean I we we we had it planned, you know months ago for
- 6:41him to come on here. We've been in contact back and
- 6:44forth via e-mail for weeks. I sent an e-mail earlier last
- 6:50week just saying hey, just making sure we're still on.
- 6:55Even sent the thumbnail for the for the podcast to them and and
- 7:00asked you know, hey is this OK? They responded back with some
- 7:04feedback. Some like spelling errors or
- 7:07whatever, right? Got that?
- 7:09Approved said. All right, good.
- 7:10We'll see you Monday. Yep, we'll see you Monday.
- 7:14Sent another e-mail. Earlier this afternoon and said
- 7:17hey, here's your here's your link to join.
- 7:20See you at X time right? X time comes around and I'm
- 7:25sitting here with you know my thumbs up my rear kind of
- 7:31waiting. Sent a couple of emails saying
- 7:33hey I'm here ready when you are. Sat and waited for 30 minutes
- 7:38and nothing. Now listen.
- 7:42I understand right? And how things go you, you know,
- 7:46life happens, things come up. You know, you can't always plan
- 7:51for things to happen when they do, right?
- 7:55So I understand that there could have been a occurrence of, you
- 8:00know, something could have happened to have prevented my
- 8:04guest from coming on the show today.
- 8:10And I hope that it wasn't anything serious.
- 8:12And I hope that it was something that required their attention,
- 8:16you know, elsewhere. Nothing serious.
- 8:19Of course, I wouldn't want you know any ill or anything to come
- 8:22on anyone, but it definitely is. You know, I I I plan my schedule
- 8:32around when my guests come up here, right?
- 8:36What's up, Adam Cage? Hope you're having a great
- 8:39night. Hope you are too, buddy.
- 8:41Nice to see you here. Thank you for tuning in again,
- 8:43guys and gals out here. Just if you don't mind, please
- 8:45share this video wherever you're watching from.
- 8:48Get some more folks to come on here because this is the podcast
- 8:51episode for this week. We're going to be taking live
- 8:53chat, comments, questions, things that you might have on
- 8:56your mind that you'd like for me to ramble on a bit about.
- 9:01But yeah, you know, going back to the whole thing, you know,
- 9:04hopefully it's it's nothing serious.
- 9:06And I and I like to think that whatever it is, is is more
- 9:09important than coming on the podcast.
- 9:12But it just to put it out here, you know, I plan my life and I I
- 9:16schedule things around my life for guests that come on this
- 9:19show. And if much like when I do my
- 9:22once a month, you know, virtual Hangouts with my scald tier and
- 9:27above patrons on Patreon, much like that, if if you're pledging
- 9:31your support at that level, then I am obligated to be there when
- 9:35I say I'm going to be there. And if you're a guest on the
- 9:37show and you've, you know, scheduled yourself to be on
- 9:41here, what's up? Chris Martino, good evening and
- 9:43hail to you. Thank you for joining.
- 9:46If you're scheduled to be here, then you are then obligated to
- 9:48be on time. And I get again, I gave like a
- 9:5230 minute grace period and waited and sent a couple of
- 9:54emails to my to my guests this week and I never heard anything.
- 9:58So again, I I have to assume that there was something of a
- 10:00more pressing nature to come up that you know they they were not
- 10:03able to you know respond back in an e-mail.
- 10:07But it does it did present a challenge to me because it's not
- 10:10like, well, let's just do it tomorrow or Wednesday or
- 10:13whatever. I'm like I got a life and I got
- 10:14things that happen and right. And when I when I schedule stuff
- 10:19with people it it's it's on a specific day that works for me,
- 10:23works for them and you know that's up that that that's all I
- 10:27got to say. So what's up John Deeson.
- 10:29Good evening man. Hope all is well.
- 10:32Hate to hear that it was a cancel.
- 10:34I'm not cancelling it, like indefinitely.
- 10:36I just, you know, want to put that out here again, not, not
- 10:39not to bear any ill will towards anyone without knowing the full
- 10:43context of things. I I, I got the I got the
- 10:47impression that that this guest was very excited to come on the
- 10:50show this week because people are so excited to come on the
- 10:55show. However, I I do have a very long
- 11:00you know, I'm booked out into April, into the middle of April
- 11:03now. So you know, I'm like, I want
- 11:08you to be here, right? I want you to come on the show.
- 11:11I just, I can't sit here all night, but you know, with my
- 11:14thumbs up, my butt waiting and and not knowing if you're going
- 11:17to come here. So I need to make good.
- 11:18Use of the. Time that I have and I thought,
- 11:21well, I don't have any other guests that I can just
- 11:22impromptu, you know, You know, an impromptu like, hey, you want
- 11:26to come on and and talk about whatever and not have anything
- 11:28really planned for. So I thought, well, what's the
- 11:31best use of my time? Let's put some feelers out here
- 11:34into the interwebs, go live for a little while and see what
- 11:40folks have to say on this random Monday evening across 2-3
- 11:46platforms. Well, across 2 platforms and you
- 11:49know, a few different profiles. Here we've got about 14 people
- 11:53watching live, Hail, hail and hello to their Jason, what does
- 12:03it say? The baby heathen is here.
- 12:05Well, Halo and hello to you Jason.
- 12:08Thank you for joining. As a reminder or as a kind of a
- 12:11recap, the Random Heathen Ramblings podcast for this week
- 12:15that usually airs on on Thursday mornings across Spotify and and
- 12:19all the other audio platforms. This is what the podcast will
- 12:22be, right? So it's going to sound very,
- 12:24very rambly. Much like a live stream tends to
- 12:28be. So for those folks that usually
- 12:30don't get a chance to see the video format of the podcast
- 12:35because it's on Patreon now, you got to become a patron on
- 12:38Patreon. Which you know, by the way, if
- 12:41you do become a patron on Patreon, you can follow me there
- 12:44for free. But if you want to watch the
- 12:47video versions of the show, you need to pledge just a dollar,
- 12:51OK? And the dollar gets you access
- 12:53to current videos that have been posted and all of my all of my.
- 12:59You know video content in the podcast forms, so if you don't
- 13:03want to, you know, continue that every month, $1.00 a month is
- 13:07all it takes. That if you want to just, you
- 13:09know, pledge your dollar, get your access, watch a bunch of
- 13:12videos and then not continue anymore, that's totally fine.
- 13:16But a dollar a month is all it takes for you to keep access to
- 13:20be able to see the videos. That versions of the podcast,
- 13:24OK, normally every week they are aired on Spotify and everywhere
- 13:28else in audio format only this will be aired on Spotify and
- 13:32everything in its audio format. So for those that are listening,
- 13:37when this comes out on Thursday this week, you know it'll be
- 13:40like, whoa, who's he talking to? Well, this is a live stream.
- 13:43We are live on YouTube and Facebook, so if you want to
- 13:49watch the recap of everything, you can either go to the Midgard
- 13:53Musings YouTube channel 'cause it'll be up there, or you can
- 13:55watch it on Patreon. Will there be live streams?
- 14:01Will this be live streamed, saved on YouTube?
- 14:04Yeah, Michael, I don't take down the live streams, you know, when
- 14:08they go up. So like I said, this one will be
- 14:13kept on the channel or indefinitely, right?
- 14:17I'm not going to just take it down after after tonight's
- 14:20broadcast, Adam says if you ever want to do a podcast about the
- 14:28coming of age ritual we did at Shadowmoot last year, let me
- 14:33know what you want to know and we will get it done.
- 14:38Adam, that is a that is a great offer for you.
- 14:42I mean, I I never would have thought to have asked you for
- 14:45that because. Being a part of it.
- 14:47At Shadowmoot last year was was something very special.
- 14:51But if you ever want to, if you want to, you know, talk about it
- 14:56again. Like I said, I'm booked out into
- 14:58April so you can shoot me an e-mail.
- 15:02The e-mail address is midgardmusingstn@gmail.com.
- 15:07I'd like to keep everything podcast related to e-mail rather
- 15:11than private messages on, you know, the various social
- 15:14platforms that I'm on. It's just easier for me to keep
- 15:17track of of things. I can put it on my calendar, I
- 15:20have a paper trail, as it were, to go back on.
- 15:24But yeah, I would love to. If you're comfortable with
- 15:27talking about it, we can. We can rap about.
- 15:29You know what? We go over what we talk about,
- 15:31what we don't talk about, etcetera, things like that.
- 15:34So, yeah, I would definitely love to recap that with you Sir.
- 15:40Thank you. Hello.
- 15:41Leon has a question. He says, what does it mean when
- 15:45a rune appears in a dream? Great question.
- 15:54So for me, I've had, I've had some experiences, you know in my
- 16:02practices over the years where runes have appeared in dreams to
- 16:05me in different contexts or they've appeared in a sort of
- 16:11like not necessarily a dream state but I was definitely like
- 16:17asleep. And then I was woken from my
- 16:19sleep and and rooms or a room was was was present.
- 16:26OK, so I always like to take the context of the dream or or or or
- 16:33what was happening, what was going on in the dream?
- 16:36You can talk with somebody who is a dream interpreter or has
- 16:40the the skill set to kind of do a deep dive into the dream
- 16:45itself. I would definitely suggest going
- 16:49down that road too, because dreams can mean different
- 16:51things, you know, and they can having an.
- 16:56Outside perspective, having a, you know, kind of like a third
- 16:58party perspective on things can maybe shed some light on on the
- 17:03dream for you that. You know you you may have
- 17:07overlooked or or again gives it a different perspective and I'm
- 17:10talking down to like some of the and and every dream you know
- 17:14every every dream that's interpreted you know I'm sure if
- 17:16you were to get several people who.
- 17:21That is their area of expertise. If you were to give you know a a
- 17:25group of those type of people the same dream to interpret, you
- 17:29might get some similar you know, responses, similar things that
- 17:36they that they kind of deduce. And you'll also probably get
- 17:39individual things or feedback from those dream interpreters
- 17:43that are unique to to to what that that person sees.
- 17:51So like for example I I did a podcast with with a guy one
- 17:54time. His name is Benjamin Davidson
- 17:57and on his YouTube channel he is he's referred to as Benjamin the
- 18:00Dream Wizard Davidson. He's done several books.
- 18:05He's got a YouTube channel. I've had him as a guest on my
- 18:10show before we've he's had me as a guest on his and I've given
- 18:13him a dream to interpret, you know, and one of which was
- 18:21involved having a rune appear and it was a Urus Rune.
- 18:25So what does the rune mean? Right.
- 18:29What is the meaning of the rune? And bear in mind, right this guy
- 18:31is not a runer. He doesn't follow Germanic
- 18:35heathen. Reed doesn't know anything about
- 18:36the runes. He just interprets the dreams.
- 18:38So he asks certain questions. He tries to get as granular as
- 18:42possible and he will give you his, his interpretation of the
- 18:47dream. And it was really insightful to
- 18:49be given that information and to have his insight on it.
- 18:52But you know, what does the rune mean?
- 18:54What was happening in the dream? Where were you?
- 18:57Were there any other people there?
- 18:58Right. There's there's so many
- 18:59different things that can go into the dream itself that you
- 19:04would need to pick apart I think before you could answer the
- 19:09question of what does it mean when a rune appears in your
- 19:13dream. So that's my answer to that
- 19:21sounds like a kick ass episode. Aaron.
- 19:23Adam Yeah, John says that the talking about the the coming of
- 19:27age ritual that I was a part of at Shadowmoot last year.
- 19:32What's up there? Voodoo Viking from southeast
- 19:34Louisiana. Thank you for tuning in again.
- 19:36This is a live stream that will later on be appear be this
- 19:40week's episode of the Random Heathen Ramblings podcast.
- 19:42So it is very random, true to its namesake because we were
- 19:46taking live comments and questions, you know, things from
- 19:50people. We got James Robinson.
- 19:54I was asked an interesting question by a guy who is just
- 19:58getting into Norse paganism and I wasn't sure how to answer.
- 20:02He wanted to know how Yortmangander has relevance on a
- 20:10globe. As in does it just wrap the
- 20:14continents or something more complex?
- 20:20I think maybe the. You read the Lord and and hear
- 20:24what is he how he's described in the Lord he you know he's the
- 20:28Midgard serpent and he encompasses Midgard.
- 20:33Midgard not being you know flat or whatever obviously so you
- 20:37know encompassing the the the world I guess.
- 20:40I guess being a serpent, you know, you could you could say
- 20:43that he probably is definitely hugging certain areas closer,
- 20:50you know dips and and crevices and stuff like that.
- 20:56So if you, if you want to explore the, the, the visuals of
- 21:00of what a serpent would be like wrapping itself around a globe,
- 21:07around a, you know, a sphere, you would have to picture the
- 21:11sphere being, you know, having depth, right, Not not like a
- 21:16flat surface, not like a like a basketball or something with no
- 21:19texture or depth to it. I'm sure that as a serpent would
- 21:24wrap around you know say a rock that's that's more round and
- 21:28square or something. I mean there's going to be parts
- 21:30of the serpent that are dipping into lower areas and higher
- 21:34peaks etcetera etcetera. So we got the heathen nerd here.
- 21:39You guys stay tuned for a guest spot with with this feller.
- 21:43He's going to be coming on the podcast soon, relatively soon.
- 21:48So be be sure to subscribe to his channel.
- 21:51He says that in an era where new heathens love to see signs
- 21:57everywhere, how do you decipher the mundane from the magic when
- 22:04interacting with the divine? That is a That is a great
- 22:10question and I appreciate everyone coming here and asking
- 22:13questions to make this week's podcast such an interesting one.
- 22:16I'm going to try to get through them and give good answers as
- 22:19best I can. But also you know with with
- 22:22consideration of everyone's time right you're here you have a
- 22:25question you want it to be heard.
- 22:27Bear with me as I go through and and and read the comments as we
- 22:31go. But deciphering between you know
- 22:36between what you would call like the mundane versus the magic.
- 22:40I like to you also use the term well I think mundane and and
- 22:46magic is is probably the best way of of describing this right
- 22:50here. But I've also looked at you know
- 22:53what is profane versus sacred the idea of what exists in the
- 22:58profane space and then what exists in sacred space.
- 23:00There are barriers there are separations between the two and
- 23:03not everything that you see the sign is a is a sign or an omen.
- 23:08The signs and the omens and stuff that are that are captured
- 23:11are are meant for the individual that that is receiving them.
- 23:16Right. So like, as an example, right?
- 23:18Like not just just because you know, you've got, you know, a
- 23:24guy sitting by a river and you know he sees, you know, 2 Ravens
- 23:31or or or two crows or something fly overhead, right?
- 23:34It doesn't mean that Odin is is coming to him necessarily.
- 23:39But there might have been something that this man or this
- 23:41person was doing by this river or in the forest or in the
- 23:47mountain or wherever he or she was or wherever this person was.
- 23:50Maybe they were doing something of a of a of a ritual to connect
- 23:56with the divine, to connect with the sacred and they were putting
- 24:00forth that magic, You know, they were, they were, they were
- 24:04executing the action to hopefully get a get a response
- 24:09from from the sacred, from the divine, you know.
- 24:13And so when things like that are happening and you see this, you
- 24:18know the Ravens or or or or any other sort of like animistic
- 24:22response to things like you know is it every single time?
- 24:26Probably not. But maybe in that context it it,
- 24:29it was a acknowledgement of sorts by the gods right.
- 24:35It's hard to say. You know we we, I don't think we
- 24:37can def. I don't think we can put a
- 24:38definitive answer to that. But I think in terms of your
- 24:42question, how do we decipher the mundane from from the magic, I
- 24:48think a quick answer would be as well you know what was what was
- 24:50happening or you just you know walking nearby and there happens
- 24:53to be you know a dead deer and and there are you know corvids
- 24:58and stuff flying around and and that's why they're they're
- 25:01present that could be the the simple mundane reason why
- 25:06they're there doesn't mean anything magical you know so.
- 25:13Probably something worth going more into deep detail, deeper
- 25:16detail with, but that's my quick response.
- 25:19Hopefully gave some good answer. For you there, Voodoo, Viking
- 25:23says. How much do you think the
- 25:26Catholics? How much do you think that the
- 25:30Catholics to took? I'm assuming you're saying took
- 25:33from the Celts and the Norse in regards to practice in
- 25:38livelihood and religiously religiosity.
- 25:43I've always made the joke that Catholics are pagans in denial
- 25:48because if you've ever attended a Catholic Mass, which I have,
- 25:51the the methodology is very Pagan, right?
- 25:54The everything about the the ritual of mass there there's
- 26:00nuance to with that to to you know Pagan rituals.
- 26:06You know what I mean? I think that they took a lot
- 26:14because again, when you look at the structure of their belief,
- 26:19you know they they're real big on Saints.
- 26:21Of course they're being a, you know, one supreme God and all
- 26:25that. But they they had, they pray the
- 26:26Saints and they have various Saints for this thing, that of
- 26:30the other to pray to. That sounds eerily familiar to
- 26:35other polytheistic or even henotheistic beliefs where you
- 26:40have specific gods or goddesses to devote a prayer or or an
- 26:45offering or something to for specific reasons.
- 26:47You know, you might pray to Frere for fertility and you
- 26:51know, you might blow to Odin for victory and battle and all these
- 26:55various things, you know. So there's nuance to that and I
- 26:58think you know how much they stole.
- 27:00You want to use the term stole from Celts or or from north
- 27:05from, from again from, from non Christian belief systems, from
- 27:08the from the Pagan beliefs of the of of those areas.
- 27:14I think that there's a lot of nuance to all of that and that
- 27:18there is a shared shared things. So let me get over to the next
- 27:26thank you for commenting that voodoo Viking.
- 27:30Amelia, I'm just going through comments now, says that normally
- 27:33when it comes to to dreams, it is best to write the dream down
- 27:37and take your time to understand the meaning of the
- 27:41interpretation. Absolutely.
- 27:43You can definitely go through your own dream process and and
- 27:47stuff, but if you're really wanting to explore some deep
- 27:50dive stuff, again, I've spoken multiple times with Benjamin
- 27:53Davidson. He is he's got a he's got he's
- 27:58got a a more like not a not a religious approach or spiritual
- 28:04approach. Again he's not heathen or Pagan
- 28:06or anything like that. I believe he's last I checked
- 28:08anyways he was atheist or maybe even agnostic.
- 28:11I don't want to speak out of turn or incorrectly but he's
- 28:14he's unbiased when it comes to things.
- 28:16So he he he's giving a very you know almost like psychological
- 28:21approach to things. I believe he has background in
- 28:23psychology too so he is available.
- 28:26He will put you, you know you can get in contact with him and
- 28:30and he'll, if you want to come on his podcast and and talk
- 28:34through the dream and he'll read kind of interpret the dream for
- 28:38you there. But I I agree with Amelia.
- 28:39You know if you can record the dream yourself document it down
- 28:43as much as you can remember, that's great.
- 28:47Hello there to Devonshire Heathen.
- 28:50Good evening from the OR good morning.
- 28:52Sorry from the United Kingdom. I know it is morning now.
- 28:55It's a very early morning. So, Alan, good morning to you.
- 28:59Thank you for commenting, Jason says.
- 29:01I've had some runes in my dreams, but the thing that is
- 29:05more concerning is this one dream that has occurred to me
- 29:09three times before I dreamt of what I perceived to be Ragnarok.
- 29:16That's a pretty common theme of dreams when it comes to like
- 29:23recurring dreams, like I I, I know people and I've had some of
- 29:27them myself, where you it's very apocalyptical, very doomsday,
- 29:32you know, end of the world, destruction of the world, that
- 29:34sort of thing. So I don't think they're very
- 29:38uncommon there you know and and being a Pagan yourself being a
- 29:42heathen yourself associating that sort of you know
- 29:45apocalyptical event with with Ragnarok kind of tracks and
- 29:49makes sense. What am I burning Leon I'm
- 29:52burning incense first of all I got a candle burning over here
- 29:56and then the incense that I'm burning is a it's a pine blend
- 30:03aroma. So that's what you see kind of
- 30:06burning off to the side here Oh my my my my pouch fell.
- 30:13I'm wearing I don't know I was you'll you'll notice too if you
- 30:16if you guys are used to watching my my my content.
- 30:19I've got these you know arm band braces and stuff on definitely
- 30:23not my normal aesthetic. My wife had gotten me these for
- 30:27for for Yule and and the shirt that I'm wearing and she's like
- 30:30I want to do it like you know not like a photo shoot because
- 30:32like I want to see the whole ensemble on you like dress up
- 30:36for me kind of thing. So I'm like, all right cool.
- 30:38And then because it was a podcast recording evening I'm
- 30:41like, well, I'll just I'll just keep it keep it normal.
- 30:44Hey, we got Scott Shell. Sorry you guys didn't show
- 30:50Jesse. Lame.
- 30:51Well, we make the best of things right, Scott?
- 30:53I guess time being, you know, precious for us all.
- 30:56I was trying to think of a way to give people something
- 31:00valuable for this week. I thought, well with, you know,
- 31:03I don't know anybody right off the rip that I could reach out
- 31:06to and be like, hey, let's you know, shoot from the hip with
- 31:08this content this week. So we're doing a live stream and
- 31:11answering questions. So thanks for being here.
- 31:14Was Michael saying that? So I've recently met another
- 31:17heathen at one of my job sites. What's the best way to see if
- 31:23they are someone worthy tying weird with making sure that
- 31:28they're not folkish. I mean as I mean I I think
- 31:32honesty and and just and just being you know blunt when it
- 31:36comes to stuff like that. I mean if that's not your job,
- 31:38if that's not your thing, if you don't want to be around or or or
- 31:42tie your weird with anybody like that just flat out ask you know,
- 31:47say hey, you know, I, you know, I first of all a lot of people
- 31:51wear hammers and stuff and they don't necessarily, you know,
- 31:55they don't practice they're they're they're not practicing
- 31:58heathens. You know they wear it as a
- 32:00fashion statement sort of thing. If as long as you've established
- 32:04that they are heathens, that they are practicing heathens,
- 32:06maybe you've had conversations talk with them about the gods or
- 32:11other similar topics that you can find you know kind of common
- 32:17ground with. It might just it might just be
- 32:20the time at that moment to just flat out be like hey, look I
- 32:23don't know I'm not about focus heathen stuff and you know.
- 32:29All right. You know what do you think about
- 32:30that I'm I'm especially I don't know for for for me you know my
- 32:37age I'm I, I I just want it upfront man.
- 32:41Like just give it to me straight.
- 32:43Let's not beat around the Bush when it comes to stuff like this
- 32:46and and and if you're you're talking to people who could
- 32:49potentially you know waste your time because that's not the
- 32:51thing that you want to be involved in then just better get
- 32:54it up you know straight up out of the way.
- 32:56I think Emilia says that in the mundane settings the the gods
- 33:03leave us messages. Magic is everywhere, but not
- 33:07everyone sees those signs in the everyday mundane.
- 33:13That's good. I like that.
- 33:15Magic is everywhere. You know, we live, we live in a
- 33:18magic gold realm. Just, you know, you stop and
- 33:21think about things that are going on scene and unseen.
- 33:25It's pure magic. Raised in southern Louisiana.
- 33:28Catholicism, Voodoo Viking. With a name like Voodoo Viking.
- 33:33I I could. I could see the voodoo part
- 33:35being, you know, southern Louisiana.
- 33:39The the Catholic thing kind of is like one of those spicy
- 33:43little editions of life that I wouldn't have called out.
- 33:46But yeah, he the nerd has a question said what advice do you
- 33:49wish someone give you when you were new to the path?
- 33:55Oh wow. Ah, man.
- 33:58I I think that's a great question.
- 34:01I don't know. I've actually never been asked
- 34:02that before. So what advice would I what did
- 34:06he say? What's the what advice do I wish
- 34:10I would have gotten from someone when I was new to the path?
- 34:18You know, I wish that I would was given more than just the
- 34:22Eddas as as as a source of of knowledge to go to.
- 34:27You know, because that's lore that's that that's mythology and
- 34:33and yes, they're there. You know there's great stuff in
- 34:38the Eddas that you know like the hall of them all and and but
- 34:41it's so much centralized around the stories and the myths it it
- 34:45doesn't really cover anything to do with morals, ethics,
- 34:49worldviews of the Teutonic people of Germanic people of pre
- 34:54Christian Europe. You know, you got to think too,
- 34:59when the Eddas were written, it was during and after the Viking
- 35:05or you know, right around and during the Viking age.
- 35:07And so by that point in time, you know the the native
- 35:11indigenous heathen beliefs and Pagan beliefs had been all but
- 35:15wiped out and replaced with Christianity.
- 35:18So much of all of that stuff that is written in those sources
- 35:22were written by Christians. So you can't help but know that
- 35:28there's bias from the Christian side being imparted into those
- 35:32stories, right? So much of the stories that
- 35:34exist in in the lore, by the time they were written down, you
- 35:39know, it was several 100 years later than when people were
- 35:44actually actively, openly practicing things.
- 35:48So I think I wish that people would have kind of pointed me in
- 35:51the direction of good source, you know, good material to to
- 35:55research, good learning material to to to explore beyond the
- 36:00Ettas stuff to do with you know, everyday life the the world
- 36:07views of of of these people knowing the difference between
- 36:11how the various tribes would have you know viewed the world
- 36:17because and again you you know we hear like heathenry is this
- 36:20kind of umbrella term of well N heathenry yet Norse meaning like
- 36:24Scandinavian you know. So you got your Scandinavian
- 36:27model of Heathenry. You've also got your your your
- 36:33continental Germanic approach to Heathenry very which which which
- 36:40is where things kind of started in the South, right.
- 36:42You know Saxony and everything that goes back to the Germanic
- 36:45tribes that hazardous documents and writes down.
- 36:50So yeah that would be my answer to that.
- 36:55I wish I would got more pointed in the direction of of of other
- 37:01source material besides just the lore.
- 37:03What's up, John? Right.
- 37:04Rechi Rechi, sorry. Halen, welcome to you.
- 37:07This is again a live stream that will be published in audio
- 37:11format on the Spotify and all the other audio platforms for
- 37:16the Random Heathen Ramblings podcast this week.
- 37:18It will remain here on YouTube and it'll go up on Patreon too
- 37:21guys. So.
- 37:22So don't worry about that. What's up?
- 37:25Patrick Walsh, my brother from another mother out there in
- 37:28Misery, Missouri. Good to see you here, man.
- 37:34All right, Jason. So I would like to get some
- 37:36Norse tattoos. However, what's your opinion on
- 37:40that regarding what your what you'd recommend and where it
- 37:46would be. So I mean, go for it, I guess.
- 37:52You know, like be careful with rooms though I guess would be my
- 37:56only cautionary comment when it comes to that there, Jason.
- 38:02Because a lot of folks like to get runes tattooed on them.
- 38:07And what they'll do is they'll take Elder Futhark runes, try to
- 38:11spell out a modern English word. And then like one of the one of
- 38:17the most popular ones I think is, is this image of like either
- 38:21the either a Vegasir or an Agasiomer, one of the Icelandics
- 38:25that's kind of like what you see behind me.
- 38:28You know they'll they'll put that and then they'll spell in
- 38:33Elder Futhark rooms. Right.
- 38:35Not all who wander are lost. That's a very popular thing and
- 38:41it's a nod to to Tolkien. You know, the JRR Tolkien, the
- 38:46author of The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings.
- 38:48Because there's a there's a line in in the book or in one of the
- 38:52books referring to Aragorn being the heir of the throne of Gondor
- 38:58and talking about, you know, not all that.
- 39:01All that is GLOW, all that is gold is not glitter and and I
- 39:07don't remember all the rest, but you know, not all who wander are
- 39:10lost and they'll put it in Elder Futhark runes.
- 39:14But it doesn't translate properly.
- 39:16Modern English does not translate correctly with with
- 39:19Elder Futhark runes. Elder Futhark runes were
- 39:25traditionally used to write in Proto Germanic languages.
- 39:27The the, the language that predates even Old Norse, right?
- 39:31So if you're looking to get Norse tattoos and you're looking
- 39:35at any sort of runic inscriptions or runic writing, I
- 39:39would definitely pause with that.
- 39:42Because it, you know, unless you have a good source of knowledge,
- 39:46somebody who is either a runologist or knows the
- 39:49difference between when the elder Futhark runes were used,
- 39:52when the younger Futhark runes were used, or any other of the
- 39:55Germanic runic letters, right? Whether they're Anglo-Saxon
- 39:57runes on and on and on. You're wanting to definitely
- 40:02make sure that if you're going to use the runes that you're
- 40:04using them correctly, especially when you're writing anything
- 40:08out, spelling anything out, you don't.
- 40:11You don't. You don't technically use Elder
- 40:13Futhark runes or even younger Futhark runes To write in modern
- 40:17English. You would use Old Norse.
- 40:20If you're going to be writing something in the Old Norse or
- 40:22even Old Icelandic, you you would use the younger Futhark
- 40:25rooms because that is the runic alphabet that was used to write
- 40:28in those spoken languages. Anything older than that, like
- 40:31the Proto Germanic languages, you would typically use your
- 40:35Elder Futhark rooms. All right.
- 40:41Hello, Patrick. Hello, John.
- 40:42Hello. Hello.
- 40:43Hello, Halen. Hello, everyone.
- 40:45What's up? Misty Dissler?
- 40:46This is Richard's wife, Richard's wife.
- 40:50And congratulations on your newborn child Misty and and and
- 40:54Richard, if you guys are watching still congratulations
- 40:56and thank you for being here. Guys.
- 40:58Please do be sure. If you're not, if you don't
- 41:01mind, please, please share the video because as I said earlier
- 41:04and kind of going to repeat throughout the broadcast, here
- 41:06we are streaming live on Facebook and YouTube and this is
- 41:09going to be the content for the Random Heathen Ramblings podcast
- 41:12this week due to just a conflict of scheduling or something.
- 41:16I don't know what happened early, but my normal, the guest
- 41:18that I was supposed to have this week just didn't show up.
- 41:22And so hopefully everything's OK and we get them on at a later
- 41:26time, maybe in April because I'm again, I'm booked out all the
- 41:29way through April, but we're answering questions live here in
- 41:32the comments. So please share the video
- 41:38around. Let's get some, get some good
- 41:39dialogue. Lots of good questions going on
- 41:41here. James.
- 41:44Rob. James Robinson.
- 41:45Yeah. Runes terrify me because I don't
- 41:49want to to to use the wrong thing and I don't totally
- 41:53understand them yet. I think you're in a good space
- 41:57to feel that way, especially being, as you put it, a baby
- 42:00heathen. Don't feel like you have to rush
- 42:03into runes early on. I think you have a a healthy
- 42:10respect, OK, terrifying you. That's a strong term.
- 42:15But hey, if that's how you feel then that's how you feel.
- 42:18Being cautious of using rooms is, is good for you early on.
- 42:24If they call to you, if they if it's you know there's something
- 42:26that you feel drawn to that you want to explore.
- 42:30You know, Scott Shell was here earlier in the in the comments.
- 42:34He's definitely somebody if you want to.
- 42:37He's got a YouTube channel. Scott, if you're watching, I
- 42:43don't remember the name off the top of my head, but anyway, he's
- 42:45on YouTube. He's also got a daily have them
- 42:48all page. So he's a good source to go to
- 42:51when it comes to learning more about the rooms in the in the,
- 42:57in their application, right where they've appeared in in
- 42:59certain rune stones and and how to pronounce them and and so on
- 43:03and so forth. You can always hit me up.
- 43:07You can e-mail me midgardmusingstn@gmail.com,
- 43:10follow me on my socials, you know the Midgard Musings page,
- 43:13the YouTube channel. You can always shoot me a
- 43:18message there. If you have any questions about
- 43:19things I'll I'll do my best to to get you the best answer I
- 43:22possibly can. But yeah, good on you for being
- 43:26cautious about it. Sagas of the Icelanders is a
- 43:30good book says Voodoo Viking. The complete set is even better,
- 43:36however. It's like $400.00.
- 43:38There's a lot of sagas, guys. There's like what, 700?
- 43:42Some odd different sagas? Just the Scandinavian ones,
- 43:47right? Lots of normal everyday
- 43:50livelihood and and ritual in them.
- 43:52Yeah, absolutely, Amelia says from the river pine.
- 43:58Kindred says that there is several good books on Futhark
- 44:04about spelling words correctly. It is also good to get opinions
- 44:12from someone who is an expert on the Futhark.
- 44:17Yeah. You know I I kind of echoing
- 44:20that comment earlier when I said you know it it's good to be
- 44:23cautionary and and you know if they terrify you or if you're
- 44:26you know I said don't let it. Don't necessarily let it deter
- 44:29you or keep you from pursuing an interest in wanting to learn.
- 44:33But definitely if you're new and early on kind of like you say a
- 44:36baby heathen it's best to consult with people who know
- 44:41what they're talking about. With that thank you very much.
- 44:49Rich is here watching too. All right.
- 44:50Cool. Misty Misty Dissler and and and
- 44:53Richard Dissler. I'm up there in Kentucky,
- 44:57northern neighbors of I'm down here in Tennessee, but I'm I'm,
- 44:59I'm definitely not a Southerner, but you're north of me so you're
- 45:02the Northerner right now respectively speaking so nice to
- 45:06see you guys here in the in the comments Patrick Walsh says.
- 45:10So my question brother is have you done any cold plunges since
- 45:18the last day that we did it. I have not been down back in the
- 45:22river so for those of you watching or listening, don't
- 45:26know what we're talking about. Myself, Patrick and some other
- 45:30close friends and and and kinsmen of ours, we were all
- 45:34charged with a a challenge 9 days leading up to to Yule, the
- 45:39historical heathen. Yule to to do a a cold plunge
- 45:43every day for 9 days for as long as you could stand it.
- 45:47But you know trying to get up to about 3 minutes it it could be,
- 45:50you know a cold shower an ice bath.
- 45:53We ended up getting sub zero temperatures, freezing
- 45:56temperatures and like six to seven inches of snow here in my
- 45:59part of the country as well as other parts of the country where
- 46:01other of our brethren were and are.
- 46:05So there was snow on the ground. We did, you know, several of us
- 46:08did snow baths. I have not done another one
- 46:14since then, brother, because mainly again the last day ended
- 46:18on the first night of Yule and then everything leading after
- 46:22that. I had to prepare our space, our
- 46:25grounds, our home or our Yola bloat, right?
- 46:29We had guests over and everything like that.
- 46:31So today is Monday and I went back, you know walked out here
- 46:36to to see what the river looks like.
- 46:37And with all this rain and the snow mountain of anything that
- 46:40we got it is a it is a raging river down there, the stones
- 46:44over here. So I haven't gone back down to
- 46:46the river since then and I haven't done another cold
- 46:50shower, but I I have considered continuing on in that endeavour
- 46:56and making cold plunges or cold showers or cold water exposure
- 47:00at kind of a regular part of my health and well-being
- 47:04repertoire. All right, Michael Thacker's
- 47:07next in the queue. Which songs would you recommend?
- 47:12Saga. Sorry, which which sagas would
- 47:14you would you recommend to read first to develop worldviews and
- 47:19sense of ritual preparation? First one that comes to mind is
- 47:26the Saga of Egil, Scala Groomson.
- 47:32That's a good one because it talks about, you know, the the
- 47:36use of runes in magical senses and and Egil was a he was a
- 47:41runer. I mean he was a he was a rune
- 47:43master. Erlas he, you know, Vicky,
- 47:46whatever you want to call him. He was known for his efficiency
- 47:49proficiency with the runes. But outside of that, like if you
- 47:56want to look at like sources for you know, good information on
- 48:00like worldview type stuff. Culture of the Tutans by Wilhelm
- 48:08Gronbeck is a good good source. Both volumes one and two.
- 48:15I have a a a reading list which after this broadcast I will put
- 48:20in the comments section And for those that are going to be
- 48:22listening to this podcast after the fact I will share some like
- 48:27recommended readings that goes into cultural type stuff.
- 48:31Right. World views how the dramatic
- 48:33people in in the north would have viewed things like death,
- 48:37the afterlife their their their concepts of what is wholly other
- 48:44things along those along those lines.
- 48:46I will come back to this Michael with with a kind of a a list a
- 48:51recommended reading list that I would would would share with
- 48:54people. But to start with.
- 48:57Yeah. Ego Scala Grimson.
- 48:59The saga of Ego Sala Grimson is a good one.
- 49:03Hello. Yep the voodoo Viking is
- 49:04welcoming Patrick there. Get getting caught up on some
- 49:08more comments here. So forgive me guys, but Scott
- 49:10Shell says yes. Runes are way more nuanced and
- 49:15complicated then they appear. Also, divination should be the
- 49:19last thing you do with the runes.
- 49:21You need to know them and create relationships with them.
- 49:24First, 100% agree you need to. You know it's even, it's even
- 49:30recited in the Hava mall, right? You know how to carve.
- 49:34You know how to paint. Do you know how to bless?
- 49:36Do you know how to send? Do you know how to do all these
- 49:39things with the runes? Do you know how to do this with
- 49:43them? Do you know how to do that?
- 49:43Do that with them. There's also in the Saga of
- 49:48Iguil Scala Grimsson, there is a kind of a famous, famous line,
- 49:56and if I can find it, maybe I think I may have seen it appear
- 50:03recently. So as you guys are bearing with
- 50:07me, I'm going to filibuster a little bit and try to find the
- 50:13thing that I was saying. People are probably going to
- 50:17beat me to it in the comments. Oh man, let's see here.
- 50:31But it's basically, how do I find this?
- 50:37No, this is all right, Quick, Quick thinks, Jesse, Quick
- 50:41thinks. But it's basically, you know,
- 50:43the the stanza says is, you know you, you should not paint runes
- 50:51unless you, you know what you're doing.
- 50:58I'm going to come up with it. I know this is a bad filibuster
- 51:02right now. Probably not going to find it
- 51:08anytime soon. Yeah, probably not going to find
- 51:21it. Well, you know what?
- 51:34See what we can do here. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 51:52I think this is the one. Hold on a second.
- 51:53Y'all. Hold on to your horses.
- 51:57Hold on here. Like nuts.
- 52:11Yeah, so in in Egil's saga, you know he's he meets a farmer who
- 52:17has a daughter. She gets sick.
- 52:19Come to find out that there's been runes painted on a whale
- 52:23bone that were painted wrong. So the runes were were used
- 52:30incorrectly and Eagle has to fix it.
- 52:39All right. So one of the things that he
- 52:43says is and I you know I'm not I'm not a student of Old Norse.
- 52:51I've I've listened. I've I've I've done my best to
- 52:53try to say it in the best way possible but it says or he says
- 52:59Scarlet Mother Runa Rista Neymaroda Velcuni Potvezer
- 53:05Morgamani is of Mirkovan Stavilisk which is to say that
- 53:13you let me get the English translation here if I can find
- 53:19it. You ought not to carve runes
- 53:22unless you do them. Well it happens to many carvers
- 53:26that they make an error. All right.
- 53:29So now that I did all of that in the last few minutes wish I had
- 53:36that on the cuff, ready to go. Just fired off on the hip so so
- 53:41there you go. I'm going to get caught up on
- 53:46some of the comments here. This is great.
- 53:50Says Jason shared the live. Thank you so much for sharing.
- 53:56Not everyone can or even should be a Rune master.
- 54:00It's not for everyone says Scott.
- 54:01Scott of all people know. And yeah I I, I 100% echo the
- 54:05sentiment. Scott.
- 54:07Kentucky women are hot. Voodoo Viking.
- 54:09All right. Well, you heard it here first.
- 54:12Probably not last, Patrick says. Thank you for answering.
- 54:16I'm thinking of reintroducing myself from time to time.
- 54:20It's so good. Talking about cold plunges, live
- 54:24streaming guys, random rambling, random heathen ramblings.
- 54:27I mean, we are, we are capturing the epitome of of random
- 54:31ramblings for sure. You couldn't pay me to do a cold
- 54:35plunge. I bet you, John, you're in
- 54:38Florida too, right? You got that southern Florida
- 54:41blood pumping through your veins, so it would be a shock
- 54:44for sure. But let me tell you what, here's
- 54:48the interesting thing about it, and you're in voodoo, Viking
- 54:51Louisiana land. There you you agree?
- 54:56Hello there Shanda. Shanda, a reading list.
- 55:00I will do my best again to go well, I won't do my best.
- 55:02I will after the live stream is done and and for those that are
- 55:06listening afterwards, because again this live is going to be
- 55:08rendered into audio format for Spotify and everybody gets a
- 55:13chance to listen, I will be providing my suggested reading
- 55:17list. OK, don't don't just stop with
- 55:19what I do. Definitely explore more but I'll
- 55:23be coming back to that. But for all you really deep
- 55:25Southerners, Florida, Louisiana stuff, folks in the Gulf area,
- 55:30I'm, I'm from New York. OK, maybe it's my northern
- 55:33blood, but I tell you, getting into cold water is a shock.
- 55:38I was like breathing heavy, you know, just having a hard time
- 55:43with it the first day. By the time that the, you know,
- 55:453rd, 4th, 5th Day and beyond came around, I was like just
- 55:48chilling in that water and finding my little happy place
- 55:53and just enjoying it. Like yes, it's cold, yes it's a
- 55:56shock, but after the first few seconds you'd be amazed at how
- 56:02resilient we are as people and and with the right train, you
- 56:07know, training with the right going on, you know,
- 56:10repetitiveness of it, it's definitely beneficial.
- 56:14Patrick says I'll be getting ready for bed soon but wanted to
- 56:18make sure I stopped by. Brother Hope the podcast gave
- 56:22great and everyone goes great and hope everyone has a great
- 56:26night and stays frosty. Absolutely brother, you too.
- 56:28Thank you so much voodoo Viking says.
- 56:32Stay frosty, Patrick Rothgar scope responding to Michael
- 56:40Thacker Ayeboga Saga has some stuff on Ritual.
- 56:48So does Hawken, The good Saga. Yeah, the Saga of Hawken, the
- 56:50good good one there too. Beowulf is a good one.
- 56:56Thank you for for for mentioning Beowulf.
- 56:59There's a lot of important parts of things like sumble that are
- 57:04laid out in Beowulf. So if you're looking to kind of
- 57:07model your approach to Sumble Beowulf is a great, great saga
- 57:14to to go off of. Scott is going to jump over to
- 57:18the Daily Havemall account, share the stream.
- 57:20Hopefully that'll get you some more views.
- 57:22Yes, guys, thank you. Thank you very much, Scott.
- 57:25As I get caught up on comments, Scott does have the Daily
- 57:28Havemall page, which I will be linking in the after stream
- 57:34description and podcast show notes for those of you that are
- 57:37listening to this when it airs on the audio waves on on
- 57:41Thursday, Scott has a Facebook page called the Daily Havemall.
- 57:44I know if you go onto Facebook and you search for the Daily
- 57:46Havemall, you'll you'll probably find a bunch, but this is his
- 57:53one right here. And I'll be sure to link all
- 57:56that in the description and the show notes for those of you
- 57:59listening and and then stuff to know which one it is that we're
- 58:03talking about. All right, great, great
- 58:06dialogue. Thank you all so much as we
- 58:08continue on here. Jason's got to go now but thanks
- 58:12for having me on and and definitely be listening this for
- 58:17for the info, especially the reading list.
- 58:18Yes, definitely check back in the description after the stream
- 58:22is over. I will be sharing a recommended
- 58:25reading list in the description area.
- 58:29So again when when this goes up on the audio waves for those of
- 58:31you that are listening, just check the show notes for all
- 58:34that the heathen nerd is firing back.
- 58:37Coming back here says, with so many heathens turning to social
- 58:41media to find community, do you think you can build Frith
- 58:50online? Or do you think Frith is made
- 58:54into Frith in person? No, I do not think that Frith
- 58:59can be made online. And yes, I think that I believe
- 59:04that Frith has to can only can only happen in person.
- 59:11All right, this is a big thing that I've talked about in the
- 59:14past when it comes to the the false sense of community that
- 59:19that social media gives. We are so separated from real
- 59:30connections with people, real human connections because of
- 59:33social media. It's a double edged sword.
- 59:35It has its, IT has its benefits. It has its uses, obviously.
- 59:40You know, doing stuff like this. Reaching people, talking,
- 59:44getting dialogue, that sort of stuff.
- 59:48Because of social media, I've been able to, you know, have
- 59:52have the podcast become what it is and then have guests on and
- 59:55stuff like that. So again, there's benefits and
- 59:56there's good uses for it. But there is absolutely no way
- 1:00:00that Frith can be established just online.
- 1:00:05I've known Patrick Walsh, who was here earlier for many, many
- 1:00:09years. And I I I would not.
- 1:00:14And I and I talked to him about this.
- 1:00:15You know, I would not exchange the title of brother with him
- 1:00:21until we had gotten the chance to share moments together and
- 1:00:25and determine what our obligations to one another was,
- 1:00:28which is part of what Frith involves.
- 1:00:31Frith has to happen in person. There's things that have to
- 1:00:34exist and happen in person. That establishes the boundaries
- 1:00:40of Frith and the obligations of Frith and all that.
- 1:00:44Wilhelm Grombeck. Wilhelm Grombeck is a great he
- 1:00:48has a lot of great insights on that in his book Culture of the
- 1:00:52Tutans, if you're interested. So while online communities,
- 1:00:58social media, forums, whether it's Facebook, YouTube, Twitter,
- 1:01:02Instagram, Google Plus your sister's ass, the Pony Express,
- 1:01:05Discord, I don't care. While all of those things can be
- 1:01:09great for building a, you know, connection with people, Frith is
- 1:01:14not something that can exist online.
- 1:01:17It has to happen in person. OK, Amelia's got a big long
- 1:01:28comment here. I'm not sure.
- 1:01:32So there's there's some, there's some numbers notated, but it
- 1:01:35says you will find runes, runic letters to read, Very good
- 1:01:39runes, very powerful runes which Odin painted.
- 1:01:42And oh, is this stanza 142 of the Hava Mall?
- 1:01:45Yeah, you will find runes, runic letters to read.
- 1:01:48Very great runes, very powerful runes, which Odin painted and
- 1:01:53which the holy gods made and which Odin carved, and then
- 1:01:57stands at 143. Odin carved for the gods, and
- 1:02:01Dane for the elves, Dwalin for the dwarves and Oswitz for the
- 1:02:07giants. I carved some myself.
- 1:02:11Stanza 144. Do you know how to write them?
- 1:02:14Do you know how to read them? Do you know?
- 1:02:21Do you know how to Do you know how to read them?
- 1:02:23Do you know how to paint them? Do you know how to test them?
- 1:02:27Do you know how to ask them? Do you know how to bless them?
- 1:02:32So on and so forth. There's various things that you
- 1:02:36should know how to do with the runes, and those are the
- 1:02:38stanzas. So this starts with 142 one
- 1:02:4043144 of the Hava Mall. There's various and numerous
- 1:02:45translations. I know some people have
- 1:02:47preferences of whether they like the Bray translation.
- 1:02:50The the the Hollander translation Thornton
- 1:02:54translation. Jackson Crawford has a
- 1:02:56translation right. There's so many different
- 1:02:58translations out there of the Hava mall but thank you Amelia
- 1:03:00for sharing that. Definitely check that out for
- 1:03:04For more information on that. It is the Hava mall stands as
- 1:03:071424344 in that area. No Frith is not online in
- 1:03:14person. Nate too Jesse it says Krothgar
- 1:03:17scope. Thank you for sharing your
- 1:03:19thoughts on that. I think I, I, I it's it's a
- 1:03:23pretty definitive line that I draw there.
- 1:03:27You can't have Frith online, It's just not possible.
- 1:03:32Online is ideal for outreach. It does not replace actual human
- 1:03:37interaction or activity and you need to establish community 100%
- 1:03:44Voodoo Viking funny enough. Amelia who just shared the the
- 1:03:48stanzas from the Hova mall again she's the go the for the River
- 1:03:55Pine Kindred in Texarkana TX. She has a Facebook group called
- 1:03:59Architex, the Architex Heathen community I think it is but she
- 1:04:05was just my guest on the podcast last week.
- 1:04:07We talked about Heathen community and outreach and
- 1:04:10things like that and how social media, you know, she's over the
- 1:04:13years been able to leverage and and and put people in contact
- 1:04:16with others to find people in their area to connect with at
- 1:04:23the grassroots level. So again, it has its benefits,
- 1:04:26it has its uses and it's good for those things.
- 1:04:29It does not replace, like you said, what actual connection
- 1:04:37with people can do, right? Michael Zaska says what kind of
- 1:04:45what kind of preparation should one make before going to a Pagan
- 1:04:52meet up. I mean I guess depending on the
- 1:04:56nature of the meet up some some, some meet ups are like potluck
- 1:04:59style gatherings, you know. So what will end up happening is
- 1:05:04they'll be like a, you know an event made on on online or
- 1:05:08something or or or people on like an e-mail list will get a
- 1:05:11notice like hey, you know we're gathering together on this day
- 1:05:15at this time please bring a dish, you know, so in terms of
- 1:05:19preparing for a heathen meet up or a Pagan meet up if it's a
- 1:05:23potluck thing, obviously you wouldn't want to prepare a dish
- 1:05:28right some some sort of contribution to the to the menu.
- 1:05:34I mean aside from that I think you know all of the Pagan
- 1:05:36meetups that I go to around here in Tennessee.
- 1:05:41It's just a bunch of people hanging out talking like it's
- 1:05:43not. Sometimes there's topics of
- 1:05:45conversation, sometimes there's topics or areas of focus.
- 1:05:49Sometimes there's, you know, very specific things that we
- 1:05:52want to like use as a theme for the, for the, for the meet up.
- 1:05:56But I mean, if you're, if you, if you have a vision and you
- 1:06:00want to have people gather together for something or
- 1:06:04something very specific, then go into it prepared to deliver and
- 1:06:11provide those specific things, right?
- 1:06:13If you want to have a meet up to, you know, hear people's
- 1:06:18opinions on a certain series of stanzas from the Hava Mall or,
- 1:06:22you know, I don't know, just whatever, right.
- 1:06:24Certain stories from the lore then come to that thing, prepare
- 1:06:30to contribute in that way. Otherwise it could just be like,
- 1:06:33hey guys, we're hanging out. We're talking, you know, let's
- 1:06:35grab a coffee, you know, whatever the case may be, it can
- 1:06:40be pretty casual in that sense, right?
- 1:06:45He the nerd is saying, you may get some.
- 1:06:49What does it say? You might get some.
- 1:06:52Sorry guys. Oh, you might get some mileage
- 1:06:55out of this one. Snorri versus Saxo apples and
- 1:07:00oranges I think because Saxo Grammaticus is you know, his
- 1:07:06his, his whole thing was was very different than than
- 1:07:08Snorri's. So you know the gods, the names
- 1:07:14of the gods, I guess with with Saxo Grammaticus and his history
- 1:07:18of the Danes and whatnot is is is is is focused more on
- 1:07:24deifying people, right? So like the names of Odin,
- 1:07:27Freyr, Brabalder, like all the various names of the gods that
- 1:07:32we read about like Snorri's Eddas, these are, these are
- 1:07:36figures in in Saxo Gramaticus's source material.
- 1:07:42You know, they, they are royalty.
- 1:07:45They are people. They are heroes.
- 1:07:46They are, they're different. So to measure them up or to try
- 1:07:52to pin them against each other like versus one versus the
- 1:07:55other, yeah, I don't really have a an immediate answer for that.
- 1:08:05That's a good one though. Cool.
- 1:08:10On their Facebook page. Voodoo Viking on the architects
- 1:08:13group. I'm assuming that's an evil
- 1:08:19question. Snorri versus Saxo.
- 1:08:22Yeah, that's a fun one. Hello there, Norm.
- 1:08:25I feel feel energized after a cold plunge.
- 1:08:31I do too. I I, you know, I've gotten told
- 1:08:34you know I'm nuts. I'm crazy.
- 1:08:36What is wrong with you? The the cold plunge thing, you
- 1:08:39know, cold water treatment, it does it.
- 1:08:41It revitalizes you, It energizes you.
- 1:08:43It's like one of the best things for your body to, like, put you
- 1:08:48back into, like, a position of focus, right?
- 1:08:55Prothgar is a feel that Saxo is the Danish version of England.
- 1:09:00A saga? Yeah.
- 1:09:03Oh, God, we got the Northwoods Kindred tuning in here.
- 1:09:06Hello. I thought it would come in and
- 1:09:08show support that he the nerd told me that you were doing a
- 1:09:11live event. Well, hail to you, Northwoods
- 1:09:13Kindred. No bold bar.
- 1:09:15I believe the good Chieftain slash Goli of your kindred up
- 1:09:18there. Not sure who's running the
- 1:09:20channel, but it is nice to see you here on the live stream.
- 1:09:23You're featured here because we're doing a live in lieu of
- 1:09:28this week's. Well, not in lieu of.
- 1:09:29We're actually going to turn this live stream into the
- 1:09:32podcast this week. My my scheduled guest was was
- 1:09:36absent. We were supposed to have a guest
- 1:09:39on this week that we were going to be recording tonight.
- 1:09:41Couldn't get him to come on. And so I thought, well, what,
- 1:09:44what? How can I best utilize my time?
- 1:09:47Because I can't just reschedule for a later time or or whatever.
- 1:09:51I'm booked out all the way through April.
- 1:09:54So if you're if you're coming here and you're and you're
- 1:09:56commenting, then it is going to be featured on this week's
- 1:10:00Random Heathen Ramblings podcast.
- 1:10:04All right, it's Baudvar. Sweet Baudvar.
- 1:10:07Just while we're here. And for the listeners and
- 1:10:09viewers that do get a chance to watch or listen to this later on
- 1:10:12in the week, I know we've been in contact over e-mail in the
- 1:10:16years past. I'd like to reconnect and
- 1:10:19schedule something for you to come on the show here and do an
- 1:10:22actual recording. Not a live stream but but but
- 1:10:25get something planned maybe in April or or beyond.
- 1:10:31I'm booked out through April now or into the middle of April and
- 1:10:33would love to have you come on and record an episode on the
- 1:10:38random Heathen Ramblings podcast.
- 1:10:40So we'll be in touch I think I still have your e-mail but yeah
- 1:10:44thank you for for for tuning into the live stream and and
- 1:10:47coming and saying hi. We're going to be wrapping it up
- 1:10:49here soon so I can get a chance to get into the post editing
- 1:10:54studio for all of you listeners and viewers out there.
- 1:10:58Amelia from the River Pine Kindred's is normally meet ups
- 1:11:01will be posted on social media. The host will post it there, or
- 1:11:07post if there will be a potluck, drum circle lecture and rules
- 1:11:11etcetera. Normally you have to be mindful
- 1:11:14of the groups having the event or hosting the event.
- 1:11:19Sorry, some some meetups are laid back where others are
- 1:11:24uncomfortable because of host rules and the location.
- 1:11:28Yeah, there's there's there's you know there's all kinds of
- 1:11:31variables and stuff to to consider.
- 1:11:34If you're the host, you kind of have a little bit of a control
- 1:11:37over things. If not then just maybe ask some
- 1:11:42questions, you know? If it's an online event post
- 1:11:46your question into the to the online event link and and and
- 1:11:50the host hopefully will be vigilant enough to to respond
- 1:11:56Booty Viking says instead of comparing apples to oranges.
- 1:11:59I always viewed it as which variety of apple do you prefer.
- 1:12:05Yeah because you know not everybody likes the you know,
- 1:12:08Granny Smith's you know and people like them other ones.
- 1:12:15But all right I think this is great.
- 1:12:17I think we've got a great we got a great video to to to release
- 1:12:23later on in the week and and and great information to put out
- 1:12:26here on our audio platform. Spotify, Apple podcast, Google
- 1:12:29podcast, Pandora. I think iHeartRadio.
- 1:12:33There's like a bunch of others like nearly a dozen different
- 1:12:35platforms. If you're into podcast listening
- 1:12:38versus watching, you can definitely find me on Spotify
- 1:12:42and nearly a dozen other platforms.
- 1:12:45So that will be airing on Thursday this week.
- 1:12:48Hello Kyle. Thanks for the inspiration to
- 1:12:52start the cold plunge challenge. I will be starting mine very
- 1:12:56soon and look forward to the results.
- 1:12:58Well, I'm glad that we could be inspiring for you and hopefully
- 1:13:02others to think about. It definitely has benefits.
- 1:13:04It's good if you have, you know prior health conditions.
- 1:13:07I know one of the one of the guys in our in our tribe are
- 1:13:11Argosy as a matter of fact. You know, you know he's diabetic
- 1:13:15so you know his feet, limbs, toes, things like that you have
- 1:13:20to be careful with. He's also has a propensity
- 1:13:25towards seizures. He's on medication for that.
- 1:13:28So when you put your body into a shock like cold icy water, if
- 1:13:32you have any pre-existing medical conditions, do your due
- 1:13:36diligence, Speak with your medical professional.
- 1:13:38Please do not take what I say or what anybody else says online as
- 1:13:42the end all be all authority of doing something.
- 1:13:45Just realize that there are benefits to it.
- 1:13:47Consult with your medical professional before making a
- 1:13:50decision. Should you decide that you want
- 1:13:52to go in that direction, be cautious, take, you know, do
- 1:13:55your research. Make sure that if you have
- 1:13:57something that could, you know, cause conflict or or or anything
- 1:14:01that you're being mindful of that.
- 1:14:04So that's going to wrap up the live stream.
- 1:14:06It's going to wrap up this week's episode of the Random
- 1:14:10Heathen Ramblings podcast which so we're we're kind of doing two
- 1:14:13birds with one Stone sort of thing here today.
- 1:14:16But for all of my listeners that are going to be catching this on
- 1:14:20Spotify or anywhere else, the live stream was random.
- 1:14:23We we had to kind of shoot from the hip and and make something
- 1:14:26happen off on off the cuff. But if you do want to regularly
- 1:14:31see video content, you'll have to become a patron on Patreon,
- 1:14:36OK, it is only a dollar a month to do that.
- 1:14:40So $1.00, you don't have to do it every month if you want to
- 1:14:43pay a dollar, you know, go on a binge marathon of watching all
- 1:14:47of the videos that are up here on this platform right now.
