- 0:01Speaker 1: Well, here he is, munching on some Oreos and getting
- 0:03Speaker 1: ready to tell us what's on TV. It's the fine writer,
- 0:08Speaker 1: Bill Frost. William P. Frost, as a matter of fact.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Bill is a writer, as I mentioned. His writing can
- 0:15Speaker 1: be found at cityweekly.net. A bi-weekly column? Bi-monthly column?
- 0:22Speaker 2: Once a month.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Once a month? A monthly column there?
- 0:24Speaker 2: Yes.
- 0:24Speaker 1: And Bill is also a podcaster, the TV Tan podcast. Yes.
- 0:29Speaker 1: And a musician. Magna Vega is the band. They just
- 0:33Speaker 1: had a triumphant tour of Quarters. You played at Quarters.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. Fine venue.
- 0:39Speaker 1: And it went well.
- 0:41Speaker 2: It did, yes. Great.
- 0:42Speaker 1: All right.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Oh, today, you can probably watch this right now if
- 0:46Speaker 2: you have not been watching Furious on Hulu with Emmy Rossum.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Season finale today, and it has been picked up for
- 0:54Speaker 2: a second season.
- 0:55Speaker 1: It's really good.
- 0:56Speaker 2: It is, yeah.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Where she's tracking a female serial killer. She's an FBI agent.
- 1:02Speaker 2: And depending on the finale here, it could be still
- 1:06Speaker 2: tracking that same serial killer into the next season, or
- 1:09Speaker 2: we might have a whole new one.
- 1:10Speaker 3: New, fresh serial killer.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:12Speaker 2: I mean, Criminal Minds has been on for almost 20
- 1:15Speaker 2: years now.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Everybody on that show is excellent. Yes. There's the black woman,
- 1:22Speaker 1: the actor's name I don't remember, who plays the senior
- 1:25Speaker 1: FBI person. She's fantastic.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:29Speaker 1: And I've never seen her before.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Neither have I, no.
- 1:31Speaker 1: And she's an older woman. Yeah. Just great.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Well, there's that. The Furious on Hulu. Tomorrow, this is
- 1:37Speaker 2: an extreme deep cut. If you remember Martin from the 90s. Yes.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Damn, Gina.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Martin Lawrence. That's why I remember it. That's right.
- 1:44Speaker 1: You do, yeah. I thought you meant Martin the Vampire movie.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. Remember that? Barely. There was a recurring character
- 1:52Speaker 2: on the show named Varnell Hill, played by Tommy Davidson,
- 1:55Speaker 2: who had a late-night talk show.
- 1:57Speaker 1: I remember Tommy Davidson. Yeah.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Well, now we've got the Varnell Hill show on Paramount +.
- 2:02Speaker 2: This is a spinoff character from 30 years ago.
- 2:04Speaker 4: Was anyone clamoring for this?
- 2:07Speaker 2: I don't know. This was a BET Plus production, but
- 2:11Speaker 2: then that shut down and got folded into Paramount +.
- 2:15Speaker 2: So the show still exists, and it's a comedy centered
- 2:19Speaker 2: on a late-night talk show. Tommy Davidson.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Okay.
- 2:23Speaker 2: I'm not sure how this happened.
- 2:25Speaker 3: I'm sure we'll get a season out of it.
- 2:27Speaker 2: But Martin Lawrence is there and a lot of the
- 2:30Speaker 2: old gang. Also, Mandalorian and Grogu is available on Disney
- 2:34Speaker 2: Plus tomorrow. Yes. Fine movie. I liked it. Just think
- 2:38Speaker 2: of it as an extra long episode of The Mandalorian.
- 2:41Speaker 4: Yeah, that's what it's kind of like. There's thought out
- 2:45Speaker 4: there that that's exactly what was... going down is they
- 2:48Speaker 4: were just making a new season of the Mandalorian. They said, well,
- 2:51Speaker 4: we could probably make.
- 2:52Speaker 1: A little money. Yeah.
- 2:53Speaker 3: Throw it there first and then we'll put it on Disney.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Yeah. And on Wednesday, Prime Video has a new movie
- 3:01Speaker 2: starring Gal Gadot called The Runner. And this is hilarious.
- 3:09Speaker 2: She's an attorney in London whose son has been kidnapped
- 3:12Speaker 2: by Damian Lewis.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Okay. Uh-huh.
- 3:16Speaker 2: And she's out on a morning jog when she gets
- 3:18Speaker 2: a call, and he tells her, you keep running or
- 3:20Speaker 2: the kid dies. So this is Speed meets Taken.
- 3:24Speaker 1: What? Really? That's dumb.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. And that's on Prime Video on Wednesday. And
- 3:30Speaker 2: I think the only people who asked for this were
- 3:32Speaker 2: the Nike product placement department. Yeah. And remember when Damien
- 3:40Speaker 2: Lewis was, you know, the it actor? Yeah. And now
- 3:43Speaker 2: he's doing this. Yeah. Thursday, Gina, I don't know, you
- 3:47Speaker 2: might be into this show. Chad Powers. I mean.
- 3:50Speaker 1: What is that? It's sports.
- 3:52Speaker 2: It's Glenn Powell. It's Glenn Powell posing as a college quarterback.
- 3:59Speaker 2: He washed out of college sports years ago, but now
- 4:02Speaker 2: he's back in disguise to take the Georgia Catfish to
- 4:07Speaker 2: the playoffs. Unless he's found out, it's ridiculous, but it's
- 4:12Speaker 2: actually pretty funny, too.
- 4:13Speaker 3: Oh.
- 4:14Speaker 2: I might give it a try. Sports comedy.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:17Speaker 2: As funny as sports comedy gets, it's right up there, yeah.
- 4:20Speaker 2: That's a rough go, but yeah. Yeah, that's on Hulu,
- 4:23Speaker 2: also on Netflix on Thursday, season two of The Gentleman
- 4:26Speaker 2: from Guy Ritchie.
- 4:27Speaker 4: This is the thing that Meghan Markle's supposedly wanting to
- 4:31Speaker 4: do in London, and no one wants.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Her to do it. I don't see her name anywhere,
- 4:36Speaker 2: so yeah.
- 4:37Speaker 1: I think I watched part of the first season.
- 4:39Speaker 2: It's better than the movie. And, uh.
- 4:43Speaker 1: And something about it turned me off, and I stopped
- 4:46Speaker 1: watching it.
- 4:46Speaker 2: It's very violent, very profane, very Guy Ritchie. That wouldn't
- 4:49Speaker 2: be it.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Well, no, that isn't it.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Also a Giancarlo Esposito is in here, and Vinnie Jones
- 4:56Speaker 2: from Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. And, yeah, as
- 4:59Speaker 2: a series, I prefer it to the movie. And on Friday,
- 5:03Speaker 2: here's a movie that's kind of getting swept under the rug,
- 5:06Speaker 2: Mayday on Apple TV, starring Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh. Yeah,
- 5:11Speaker 2: this is set in the 80s, a U.S. Navy pilot
- 5:14Speaker 2: played by Ryan Reynolds. He's trapped behind Russian lines during
- 5:19Speaker 2: a secret mission gone wrong, and he's relying on an
- 5:22Speaker 2: ex-KGB agent played by Kenneth Branagh to get him out
- 5:26Speaker 2: of there. Kenneth Branagh also has kind of a soft
- 5:29Speaker 2: spot for American culture, therefore.
- 5:32Speaker 4: Why are they hiding this?
- 5:34Speaker 2: Well, they're just kind of dropping it on Labor Day weekend,
- 5:38Speaker 2: and I haven't seen a lot of promotion for it.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Is it Netflix?
- 5:41Speaker 2: It's on Apple TV.
- 5:43Speaker 3: Yeah, Apple does that. They'll just drop stuff.
- 5:45Speaker 2: They're like, oh, you'll find it on your own. Maybe.
- 5:50Speaker 3: And I never do.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:53Speaker 1: It's why Bill is here.
- 5:55Speaker 2: And going all the way to Sunday on MGM +,
- 5:59Speaker 2: which I'm sure somebody has. A Tale of Two Cities,
- 6:02Speaker 2: a new four-part British adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic.
- 6:06Speaker 1: All right.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Starring Kit Harington. Okay. And nobody else I recognize.
- 6:10Speaker 3: Jon Snow.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Jon Snow.
- 6:13Speaker 1: And Jon Snow?
- 6:14Speaker 2: Really? Both of them?
- 6:15Speaker 1: Yep.
- 6:15Speaker 3: Now, this is a series?
- 6:18Speaker 2: This is a four-part series.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Okay.
- 6:20Speaker 2: It's a very short series.
- 6:21Speaker 3: Because it's a big book.
- 6:22Speaker 1: As I recall.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Yeah. Four episodes. So they're going to try to squeeze
- 6:25Speaker 2: us all into four episodes. And yeah, that's... That's a
- 6:30Speaker 2: very slow week there. It was the best of times.
- 6:33Speaker 2: It was the worst of times. Yes, it was. Yes,
- 6:34Speaker 2: it was. And if you haven't watched the new season
- 6:37Speaker 2: of Adults on Hulu yet, do so. It is extremely funny.
- 6:41Speaker 3: That's what Rebecca's been saying.
- 6:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:43Speaker 1: It's called Adults.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Adults. Yeah, it's the second season. It's about a group
- 6:47Speaker 2: of 20-somethings in New York. But it's not Friends.
- 6:49Speaker 3: It's not Friends.
- 6:50Speaker 2: It's much filthier. It's Filthy Friends.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:54Speaker 2: What do you mean, much filthier? Friends was not filthy,
- 6:57Speaker 2: was it? Well, anything is much filthier than friends, and
- 7:00Speaker 2: this show is definitely. And Rebecca has been lamenting that
- 7:04Speaker 2: she identifies with the more straight-laced female character instead of
- 7:08Speaker 2: the wild party girl character.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Well, we all have to grow up sometime.
- 7:12Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 7:13Speaker 3: She is getting older.
- 7:15Speaker 2: It just reminds me of when I was younger. I go, well,
- 7:17Speaker 2: not that much younger. She thinks she's just aged out
- 7:23Speaker 2: of everything. I'm like, no, no, not at all. And, yeah,
- 7:26Speaker 2: that's it. Also enjoying Lanterns.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. I watched the first two episodes. I quite
- 7:33Speaker 1: liked it because I'm really fond of Kyle Chandler.
- 7:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:38Speaker 1: And him playing that kind of grizzled sort of, you know,
- 7:43Speaker 1: close to being an alcoholic character.
- 7:46Speaker 2: He's very good at that. Yeah. Remember when he used
- 7:48Speaker 2: to get the newspaper early?
- 7:49Speaker 1: Yeah. That show? Yeah.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Early edition.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:53Speaker 3: Apparently this next episode flips everything on its head.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Uh-oh.
- 7:57Speaker 3: We find out more about Jon Stewart's past.
- 8:00Speaker 2: Okay.
- 8:01Speaker 1: He's a child. Now, is Jon Stewart the... That's.
- 8:07Speaker 3: Aaron Pierre, his trainee.
- 8:09Speaker 1: His good-looking trainee.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Yes.
- 8:11Speaker 1: He's really quite good, too. I don't know what I've
- 8:14Speaker 1: seen him in before. I don't think I've seen him
- 8:15Speaker 1: in anything.
- 8:16Speaker 3: Probably Rebel Ridge, if you watch that.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Oh, I saw some of that, yeah.
- 8:19Speaker 2: On Netflix?
- 8:19Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, he's really excellent.
- 8:22Speaker 4: It's doing something that doesn't happen very often, and that
- 8:27Speaker 4: is it's taking characters that I never cared about, because
- 8:30Speaker 4: I never read DC Comics, and it's making me like them.
- 8:34Speaker 2: It means it's well done.
- 8:35Speaker 3: And you get a crash course in Green Lantern.
- 8:39Speaker 2: And they do it very subtly, too. It's not very exposition-y. No, no.
- 8:44Speaker 2: They just kind of work it in there.
- 8:45Speaker 4: Yeah, there was no origin story. It's just, you know,
- 8:48Speaker 4: they just say, yeah, these blue aliens.
- 8:51Speaker 1: I'm still not quite sure what Green Lantern does, but
- 8:54Speaker 1: I'm finding out. Space cop. Little by little.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Space cop, yeah.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Space cop.
- 8:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I saw a bit of the Ryan
- 9:01Speaker 2: Reynolds movie over the weekend somewhere, and it's so much
- 9:04Speaker 2: worse than I remember. Yeah.
- 9:07Speaker 1: Oh, a Green Lantern movie. Yeah.
- 9:09Speaker 2: Oh, it's bad.
- 9:09Speaker 4: Well, Green Lantern fans get mad when I say, that
- 9:12Speaker 4: Ryan Reynolds movie?
- 9:13Speaker 3: That's a Green Lantern movie.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Unfortunately, yes.
- 9:16Speaker 3: Everything about Green Lantern is in that movie.
- 9:18Speaker 2: All right?
- 9:19Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a lot, but that's what you like the
- 9:21Speaker 3: character for.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Yep.
- 9:22Speaker 3: Sorry you don't like it. I've been watching this President Curtis.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. What's that?
- 9:30Speaker 2: It's a Rick and Morty spinoff.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Rick and Morty spinoff. Oh, yeah.
- 9:33Speaker 3: The president of the.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Imagine.
- 9:36Speaker 3: Rick and Morty meets the X-Files, but he's the president.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:43Speaker 2: Okay.
- 9:43Speaker 3: It's quite funny.
- 9:44Speaker 2: It's also easier to follow than Rick and Morty.
- 9:46Speaker 1: It is.
- 9:47Speaker 3: Yeah, because Rick and Morty, that whole universe.
- 9:49Speaker 2: So much science.
- 9:51Speaker 4: So much science and so many characters that you've forgotten.
- 9:53Speaker 4: and yeah all the universes and yeah anyway is that
- 9:58Speaker 4: everything i'm finally watching the americans 10 years.
- 10:01Speaker 1: Later i still haven't gotten to that one it still
- 10:04Speaker 1: holds up your friend margo martindale i said that to
- 10:08Speaker 1: joe last night i'm like.
