- 0:00Speaker 1: Yeah, that Chuck Norris was chasing the Tyrannosaurus Rex. The
- 0:06Speaker 1: Rex was not chasing the Jeep. Murray! Murray, you there?
- 0:10Speaker 1: You love sandwiches, huh? Let's go to 80. His name
- 0:14Speaker 1: is Bo.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Wow.
- 0:16Speaker 1: That's prime time, baby. I had a crush on Betty Rubble.
- 0:19Speaker 1: I honestly, until after the segment ended and we went
- 0:22Speaker 1: to commercial break, had no idea that Jonathan Coachman was black.
- 0:25Speaker 1: He cost them the game last night. Although they won
- 0:28Speaker 1: the game. You're listening to Stugatz and Company. It is
- 0:32Speaker 1: Stugatz and Company presented by FanDuel and the FanDuel Sportsbook.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Week one concluded last night. The Chiefs are back. Taylor
- 0:40Speaker 1: is nodding his head yes that the Kansas City Chiefs
- 0:43Speaker 1: are back. Not so much that Patrick Mahomes was so great.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Kenneth Walker was. but more so Spags. I mean, right?
- 0:50Speaker 1: Spags with that defense, a young defense, gets it done
- 0:54Speaker 1: against an offense that was very, very good a year ago.
- 0:57Speaker 1: I was surprised. I'm more concerned about the Broncos based
- 1:01Speaker 1: on the outcome of that game than I kind of–
- 1:05Speaker 1: I have more negative feelings about the Broncos than I
- 1:07Speaker 1: do positive feelings about the Chiefs. I'm not certain if
- 1:09Speaker 1: the Chiefs are back. I'm just saying it because it's
- 1:11Speaker 1: a thing to say today, you know?
- 1:13Speaker 3: I don't even think it's just a thing to say
- 1:15Speaker 3: today because I think that was a statement game by
- 1:18Speaker 3: the Kansas City Chiefs where Denver ends their run winning
- 1:22Speaker 3: the AFC West last season. And that was kind of
- 1:25Speaker 3: Kansas City reintroducing themselves saying, hey, Denver, Bo Nix, you
- 1:29Speaker 3: had your fun in the sun.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes is back. He plays in Denver, man. You
- 1:36Speaker 1: had your fun in the altitude. You had your fun
- 1:37Speaker 1: in the snow.
- 1:41Speaker 4: It's amazing to me how back-ass words the start of
- 1:44Speaker 4: this season is. We were just told defense is always
- 1:47Speaker 4: showing up early. Defense will show up early. Offense needs
- 1:50Speaker 4: to catch up. Well, look at the top defenses. Houston,
- 1:53Speaker 4: they get boat raced. I mean, 31 points by Buffalo. Right.
- 1:58Speaker 5: And then.
- 1:59Speaker 4: The Denver Broncos are supposed to have this elite defense.
- 2:02Speaker 4: They give up 31, not to mention, what, 220 yards
- 2:07Speaker 4: on the ground by the Kansas City Chiefs. So much
- 2:09Speaker 4: so that Patrick Mahomes kind of didn't even need to
- 2:12Speaker 4: throw the ball that much.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Yep.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Eric Armstead, who plays defensive end for the Jacksonville Jaguars,
- 2:17Speaker 1: they play the Broncos coming up this Sunday. He's going
- 2:19Speaker 1: to join us here in about 10 or 15 minutes.
- 2:22Speaker 1: I didn't think Mahomes was that good. Taylor, what did
- 2:24Speaker 1: you think? He was very rusty early. He trusted his legs,
- 2:27Speaker 1: did not trust his arm. I didn't think he looked great.
- 2:30Speaker 3: I think that's a scary part of this game, where
- 2:32Speaker 3: Mahomes wasn't that great. The Chiefs didn't need him to
- 2:35Speaker 3: be that great, and they still ran this Denver Broncos
- 2:38Speaker 3: team who made it to the AFC championship game and
- 2:41Speaker 3: was a bone X injury away from that Patriots game,
- 2:44Speaker 3: potentially playing in the super bowl, that chiefs offensive line,
- 2:48Speaker 3: pushed around a Denver defense that was supposed to be
- 2:51Speaker 3: one of the best in football, where Kenneth Walker, he
- 2:54Speaker 3: comes over as the Super Bowl MVP, and you're like, oh,
- 2:56Speaker 3: what's Kenneth Walker going to look like in this Kansas
- 2:59Speaker 3: City offense? You know how you protect Patrick.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Mahomes' knee?
- 3:02Speaker 1: Running game.
- 3:03Speaker 3: You hand the ball off to Kenneth Walker. Kenneth Walker,
- 3:04Speaker 3: 23 rushes, 173 yards. Kenneth Walker had 191 yards from scrimmage.
- 3:12Speaker 3: The Denver Broncos as a team had 176 total yards.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Yeah, but the odd thing about Mahomes and keeping that
- 3:18Speaker 1: knee healthy and keeping himself healthy, he was running all
- 3:20Speaker 1: over the field last night like a maniac. I mean,
- 3:23Speaker 1: he wasn't trying to protect that knee.
- 3:26Speaker 4: It seemed like he trusted his legs, considering they were
- 3:29Speaker 4: surgically repaired in the offseason, more than he trusted his arm,
- 3:33Speaker 4: which wasn't. It was kind of a weird situation where
- 3:36Speaker 4: you were like, huh, he's obviously not hurting in his
- 3:40Speaker 4: legs because he's taking off and running. But when he's
- 3:43Speaker 4: in the pocket, he seems like, I don't like, I'm
- 3:45Speaker 4: going to run.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:46Speaker 3: When you talk about the Denver Broncos potentially being a
- 3:49Speaker 3: Super Bowl contender this year, it implies that Bo Nix
- 3:53Speaker 3: is going to take this leap into franchise quarterback territory.
- 3:58Speaker 3: Is it crazy to say after week one, I don't
- 4:00Speaker 3: really see it with Bo Nix, where Bo Nix leaves
- 4:03Speaker 3: a lot to be desired, and their big offseason acquisition
- 4:06Speaker 3: was trading for Jalen Waddell, and Sean Payton's supposed to
- 4:09Speaker 3: be this offensive mastermind scheming people open. Jalen Waddell had
- 4:13Speaker 3: one catch for two yards. That was your big offseason move?
- 4:16Speaker 1: And he had a big drop. He did. He would
- 4:17Speaker 1: have scored a touchdown had he caught that ball. Yes,
- 4:19Speaker 1: it was a perfect throw by Bo Nix.
- 4:22Speaker 4: Yeah, that's true. But the other thing that happened this
- 4:25Speaker 4: offseason is Sean Payton said, you know what, I'm not
- 4:27Speaker 4: going to call the plays this year. I'm going to
- 4:29Speaker 4: hand it over to Davis Webb. He's this young, up-and-coming
- 4:32Speaker 4: offensive coordinator. I believe he was a third-string quarterback for
- 4:36Speaker 4: every team in the NFL at one point. But they
- 4:39Speaker 4: handed him the ball, and the offense did not look
- 4:42Speaker 4: very good. So I'm going to wonder how many weeks
- 4:45Speaker 4: before Sean Payton goes, hey, that play calling, I'm going
- 4:48Speaker 4: to go ahead and take that back from you.
- 4:49Speaker 3: It's a classic head coaching move where you give your
- 4:52Speaker 3: power up just to let the other guy fail, and
- 4:55Speaker 3: then you swoop back in with your Superman cape saying– Oh,
- 4:59Speaker 3: Sean Payton getting ready to take back over the offense.
- 5:02Speaker 1: How many more weeks, though, guys? How many more weeks
- 5:04Speaker 1: before Payton puts the cape on, swoops in? Didn't Dan
- 5:06Speaker 1: Campbell do this last year?
- 5:08Speaker 4: Yeah, they always do it. Dan Campbell took it back
- 5:10Speaker 4: against the worst defenses. He was like, okay, I'm going
- 5:13Speaker 4: to give it back to you when we face the Texans.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Let's look at the Broncos schedule and identify when we
- 5:18Speaker 1: think Sean Payton is going to take back the responsibilities
- 5:22Speaker 1: of calling blades for the Broncos. Is it this week
- 5:25Speaker 1: against Jacksonville? No, he gives Davis one more week.
- 5:28Speaker 4: No, I don't think he does it against the Rams.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Yes. No, no, no, no, no. It's a gauntlet of
- 5:32Speaker 1: a schedule.
- 5:33Speaker 4: It really is. I'm looking, I'm looking. 1025 at the Cardinals.
- 5:39Speaker 4: That seems like Sean Payton.
- 5:40Speaker 2: You know what?
- 5:41Speaker 4: I'm going to head and do this one.
- 5:42Speaker 1: That was the easy game on their schedule. And now
- 5:44Speaker 1: we're not certain if it's easy. I mean, now the
- 5:46Speaker 1: easy game is probably the Chargers. Funny how it changes
- 5:51Speaker 1: after one week.
- 5:54Speaker 3: My favorite part of that game last night, though. As
- 5:57Speaker 3: a friend of the show, Spags.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Yes. Spags did what Spags does. Dials up blitzes.
- 6:05Speaker 3: 3.7 yards per play for that Denver offense. They forced
- 6:08Speaker 3: two turnovers. My favorite player going into this offseason was
- 6:12Speaker 3: Mansour Delane because I love Mansour Delane at Virginia Tech,
- 6:16Speaker 3: and then he transfers to LSU, and he's one of
- 6:18Speaker 3: the top cornerbacks in the NFL. And when we had
- 6:21Speaker 3: Spags on, I made it a point to ask him
- 6:23Speaker 3: about Mansour Delane because Spags That level of talent in Spaggs'
- 6:28Speaker 3: defense should be something to behold. And then, unfortunately, Mansour
- 6:33Speaker 3: Delane gets hurt on that interception that he has, which
- 6:36Speaker 3: was only like the fourth play of the game. It
- 6:38Speaker 3: eventually leads to Kansas City's turnover. But even then, you
- 6:42Speaker 3: saw the flashes, what Mansour Delane does when he's matched
- 6:44Speaker 3: up in man coverage against Cortland Sutton. And he basically
- 6:47Speaker 3: runs Cortland Sutton's route for him and picks that ball up.
- 6:50Speaker 1: You hear Aikman heaping praise on Spags last night? It
- 6:55Speaker 1: was amazing. Like, you know, he's hopeful that Spags will
- 6:58Speaker 1: get another head coaching job, but he thinks Spags should
- 7:00Speaker 1: stay right here with Andy Reid because he's kind of
- 7:02Speaker 1: like the assistant head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs,
- 7:04Speaker 1: and it ain't going to get any better than that.
- 7:06Speaker 1: But Aikman was essentially saying he's the greatest to ever
- 7:09Speaker 1: do it as a defensive coordinator. I fully agree with that.
- 7:12Speaker 3: And as a friend of the show, I do– if
- 7:14Speaker 3: Spags wants to be a head coach again, I'm all
- 7:17Speaker 3: for it.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Right.
- 7:19Speaker 1: But I do think there is– Nice of you.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Yes.
- 7:22Speaker 3: I do think there is a certain truth to like
- 7:25Speaker 3: some people were just born to be coordinators.
- 7:28Speaker 4: Yes.
- 7:28Speaker 3: And if you excel that much at being a coordinator,
- 7:33Speaker 3: the only thing that– you should leave for head coaching
- 7:36Speaker 3: job for is if that's like your, your ultimate goal,
- 7:39Speaker 3: like Robert Sala.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Questionable head coach.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Right.
- 7:42Speaker 3: And I think saying he's a questionable head coach is
- 7:44Speaker 3: being a little generous to Robert Sala.
- 7:46Speaker 2: Right.
- 7:47Speaker 1: But as a coordinator, as a coordinator, my God, it's
- 7:49Speaker 1: like two head coaches.
- 7:50Speaker 3: Brian Flores, Brian Flores, great defensive coordinator. The way he
- 7:56Speaker 3: was dialing up blitzes in that, in that Packers game,
- 7:59Speaker 3: like Brian Flores blitzes like 80% of the time, nothing
- 8:02Speaker 3: about that feels sustainable from a, from a defensive standpoint, right?
- 8:06Speaker 1: Great defensive mind.
- 8:07Speaker 3: When he becomes the head coach, then all of a
- 8:09Speaker 3: sudden you have bullying concerns that he's bullying too, as,
- 8:12Speaker 3: as his quarterback, which by the way, he was probably
- 8:14Speaker 3: right about.
- 8:15Speaker 4: Yes, he was Josh McDaniels. Perfect coordinator face. That guy
- 8:21Speaker 4: draws up an offense, no matter who his quarterback is
- 8:24Speaker 4: for the Patriots. And you're just like, man, that's a
- 8:27Speaker 4: good offense. Then he gets a head coaching job and
- 8:29Speaker 4: you're like, Man, he's terrible.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Yes. Let me take back what I just said. It
- 8:33Speaker 1: is not okay to bully someone. I don't care. You
- 8:35Speaker 1: can't justify bullying, okay, even in the NFL. Flores, if
- 8:40Speaker 1: Tua felt that way, I should not condone it, and
- 8:43Speaker 1: neither should you. I'm not saying bullying is right.
- 8:48Speaker 2: Okay.
- 8:49Speaker 3: I am saying that all the criticism that Brian Flores
- 8:52Speaker 3: had of Tua might have been fair in retrospect.
- 8:59Speaker 1: All right.
- 8:59Speaker 4: Right message, wrong message, way to deliver. Is that what
- 9:03Speaker 4: you're saying? Wrong delivery?
- 9:04Speaker 1: I'm glad I made him say it again. I mean,
- 9:06Speaker 1: I am. I'm glad I stopped ourselves there for just
- 9:08Speaker 1: a second just to make sure I heard that correctly.
- 9:11Speaker 1: I did. He delivered it much better there.
- 9:13Speaker 3: You know who also fits into the might-just-be-born-to-be-a-coordinator conversation?
- 9:18Speaker 4: Matt Nagy.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Yes.
- 9:19Speaker 3: Because that Giants offense looked pretty good with Jackson Dart,
- 9:22Speaker 3: probably better than they ever looked with Brian Dable. But
- 9:25Speaker 3: when you put Matt Nagy in a head coaching position
- 9:27Speaker 3: in Chicago, you're like, oh, this guy's not serious.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Right.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Dable's another one. That Titans offense was pretty bad.
- 9:35Speaker 4: Right now that offensive line isn't doing that well either.
- 9:39Speaker 1: He was the OC for Buffalo with Josh Allen when
- 9:41Speaker 1: he got started. Maybe that was just Josh Allen. I'm
- 9:45Speaker 1: starting to think it is Josh Allen.
- 9:47Speaker 4: That's all of it.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Joe Brady doesn't matter. Josh Allen is going to do
- 9:52Speaker 1: Josh Allen type things regardless of who's calling plays or
- 9:55Speaker 1: who the head coach is. What did you guys make
- 9:57Speaker 1: of Tom Cruise just sitting there What a weird thing
- 10:01Speaker 1: this is. Not that Travis is married to Taylor. I'm
- 10:04Speaker 1: happy for him. And they seem to be happy. It's
- 10:07Speaker 1: just all of it's weird. It's in Kansas City. It's Taylor.
- 10:10Speaker 1: It's Tom Cruise just sitting right next to Taylor. They're
- 10:13Speaker 1: having a casual conversation. I mean, it's Kansas City. It's weird.
- 10:17Speaker 2: I'm sorry.
- 10:18Speaker 4: What do they talk about?
- 10:19Speaker 1: I have no idea.
- 10:20Speaker 4: Tom Cruise is sitting next to Taylor Swift. What do
- 10:22Speaker 4: they talk about?
- 10:23Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 10:24Speaker 1: I mean, only things that the two of them can
- 10:25Speaker 1: relate to because of that famous.
- 10:28Speaker 3: It does almost feel like those like Mad Lib books
- 10:31Speaker 3: where it's like, Blank was sitting next to Blank at
- 10:34Speaker 3: a Blank, and it's like Taylor Swift was sitting next
- 10:37Speaker 3: to Tom Cruise at a Chiefs game as Spags dials
- 10:41Speaker 3: up blitzes.
- 10:43Speaker 1: And Travis Kelsey leads in receiving. Yes.
- 10:47Speaker 4: Like it's 2008.
- 10:48Speaker 1: And Spags doesn't give a bleep who's there. He doesn't
- 10:50Speaker 1: even know who they are.
- 10:51Speaker 5: No.
- 10:52Speaker 4: He's too busy.
- 10:53Speaker 1: He's been watching Broncos film for nine months.
- 10:56Speaker 2: What?
- 10:58Speaker 1: What do they talk about? Is there any chance that
- 11:01Speaker 1: Tom Cruise says to Taylor, I got this guy in
- 11:03Speaker 1: my fantasy team this week. I need a big game
- 11:06Speaker 1: out of him.
- 11:07Speaker 3: Tom Cruise does look like a guy who, like, he's
- 11:09Speaker 3: dying to tell you about his fantasy team.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Put it on the poll. Does Tom Cruise look like
- 11:14Speaker 1: a guy who's dying to tell you about his fantasy team?
- 11:20Speaker 1: What would he call his fantasy team?
- 11:24Speaker 4: Top Gunners.
- 11:25Speaker 1: Top Gunners. That's certainly inconsiderate. Now we have to go
- 11:28Speaker 1: through all the movies here. What would be a great
- 11:33Speaker 1: name for Tom Cruise's fantasy? I think Top Gunners. No,
- 11:38Speaker 1: that can't be it. Mission Super Bowl. Mission Impossible.
- 11:42Speaker 4: Mission Super Bowl. I like that. Mission Super Bowl.
- 11:46Speaker 1: What other movies? Cocktail?
- 11:48Speaker 2: No.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Jerry Maguire's Clients.
- 11:51Speaker 4: Cocktails and Dreams of Championships.
- 11:57Speaker 1: Do you have more? Risky Business. I'm just trying to
- 12:01Speaker 1: think of the right fantasy.
- 12:04Speaker 4: If he won the championship last year, it's Rain Man,
- 12:06Speaker 4: but it's spelled R-E-I-G-N.
- 12:09Speaker 3: What if he drafts his team and he's looking at
- 12:11Speaker 3: his roster and he says, I know what I'm going
- 12:13Speaker 3: to name this team.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:14Speaker 1: A few good men. Put it on the poll, Taylor,
- 12:20Speaker 1: before we get to Eric Armstead of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
- 12:24Speaker 1: Is the name of Tom Cruise's fantasy team Rain Man
- 12:28Speaker 1: spelled R-E-I-G-N?
- 12:45Speaker 2: Eric Armstead of.
- 12:46Speaker 1: The Jacksonville Jaguars, 1-0. Jacksonville Jaguars taking on the Broncos
- 12:50Speaker 1: coming up at 4.05 this Sunday. How'd that win feel
- 12:53Speaker 1: for you, man? How's it feel to be 1-0?
- 12:56Speaker 2: It's great.
- 12:57Speaker 5: It's definitely great any time you can start off your
- 13:00Speaker 5: season in a win column. It was a great team win.
- 13:05Speaker 5: Guys were flying around on all cylinders, offense, defense, special teams.
- 13:09Speaker 2: It was great to be a part of.
- 13:11Speaker 1: What wasn't great to be a part of, your school
- 13:13Speaker 1: that you went to, Oregon. What happened? Arik, what the
- 13:19Speaker 1: hell happened to them in Stillwater? What happened?
- 13:22Speaker 2: Why are you bringing up old stuff?
- 13:26Speaker 1: I buttered you up with a question about being 1-0.
- 13:28Speaker 1: How does it feel? Now I want to know how
- 13:31Speaker 1: you felt as Oregon was losing that game.
- 13:34Speaker 2: You have to talk about all that.
- 13:35Speaker 5: But on the bright side, on the bright side, the
- 13:39Speaker 5: playoffs has expanded.
- 13:41Speaker 2: So we still got to hop.
- 13:43Speaker 5: All we got to do is get in the tournament,
- 13:45Speaker 5: and we still got a chance. You know, there's a
- 13:47Speaker 5: lot of football to be played. You can't win a
- 13:50Speaker 5: national championship in week two of the season.
- 13:53Speaker 2: So... um i'm looking for them to.
- 13:57Speaker 5: You know make some adjustments you know maybe it's a
- 13:59Speaker 5: wake-up call whatever to improve and um you know hopefully
- 14:04Speaker 5: still getting to that to that tournament and you know
- 14:07Speaker 5: find a way to find a way to win all.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Right i'll bring it back to more positive things you've
- 14:11Speaker 1: been on some great teams really good teams you've been
- 14:13Speaker 1: to a super bowl is jacksonville is this jacksonville team
- 14:16Speaker 1: the most talented team that you've played on.
- 14:20Speaker 5: The most talented team that's a that's a That's a
- 14:23Speaker 5: great question. We definitely have a lot of talent all
- 14:27Speaker 5: over the field, offense, defense. You know, I don't really,
- 14:33Speaker 5: I don't want to compare my teams because I've played
- 14:37Speaker 5: on some great teams with some great players, but this team,
- 14:42Speaker 5: this 2026 Jacksonville Jaguars, we definitely have a lot of
- 14:47Speaker 5: talent and we have all the ability to go all
- 14:49Speaker 5: the way and, and, and win the big thing.
- 14:52Speaker 2: So, Um, you know, like I said, it's week one.
- 14:55Speaker 5: Um, the goal each week is to go one and oh, uh,
- 15:00Speaker 5: take it step by step and really just keep getting
- 15:04Speaker 5: better week after week after week. And, you know, like
- 15:08Speaker 5: I said, if you can't win a Superbowl, um, in September,
- 15:12Speaker 5: you know, that's going to be decided later in the season,
- 15:15Speaker 5: especially as we get into.
- 15:16Speaker 2: Uh, December and January and.
- 15:21Speaker 5: Those latter parts of the season where you really get
- 15:24Speaker 5: to see the true makeup of your team. You've gone
- 15:27Speaker 5: through the ups and downs of a season, the adversity.
- 15:32Speaker 5: But I wouldn't rather do it with any other group
- 15:36Speaker 5: than that we have. And so I'm really excited about
- 15:38Speaker 5: this journey that we're about to go on. And I
- 15:40Speaker 5: just want to go week by week and see how
- 15:42Speaker 5: good we can get.
- 15:42Speaker 4: Eric, I want to go back to that game on Sunday.
- 15:46Speaker 4: that was a straight up butt whooping. Like, I mean,
- 15:49Speaker 4: that's as good as you could come out in week one.
- 15:52Speaker 4: And I'm curious if you could tell me what it's
- 15:53Speaker 4: like to smell blood in the water that early in
- 15:56Speaker 4: a game where, you know, we can just crush these
- 15:59Speaker 4: guys and take the rest of the day off by halftime.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:03Speaker 5: I've been a part, been a part of a few
- 16:04Speaker 5: of those throughout my, throughout my career. And it's definitely
- 16:09Speaker 5: a good feeling, a good feeling to start fast and
- 16:13Speaker 5: jump out on a team and, impose your will from
- 16:17Speaker 5: the get-go and build a comfortable lead, but not take
- 16:22Speaker 5: your foot off the gas and still be hungry. We
- 16:29Speaker 5: were trying to pitch a shutout. That was where our
- 16:32Speaker 5: mentality was. We didn't get it done, but throughout the
- 16:39Speaker 5: entire game, we kept our foot on the pedal, trying
- 16:45Speaker 5: to play our best football. So Jumping out on a
- 16:47Speaker 5: team like that is definitely a good feeling, and it gives.
- 16:52Speaker 2: You a little bit of breathing room throughout the game.
- 16:57Speaker 5: But we were still staying at it throughout the entire
- 17:00Speaker 5: game because I know how leads can change in this league.
- 17:04Speaker 3: Eric, it feels like Trevor Lawrence entered this season as
- 17:07Speaker 3: a lot of people's dark horse candidate for MVP, Mina
- 17:10Speaker 3: Kimes especially. What have you seen from Trevor, whether it
- 17:14Speaker 3: was in training camp or week one, to think that, okay,
- 17:17Speaker 3: this might be the year he kind of puts it
- 17:20Speaker 3: all together and has this MVP-level season?
- 17:24Speaker 5: Yeah, I think we saw it at the latter parts
- 17:26Speaker 5: of last season once things really started to click. And
- 17:30Speaker 5: when I look at our team, Trevor's phenomenal. He is–
- 17:36Speaker 5: I think he can be the best quarterback in the league.
- 17:38Speaker 5: He has that ability. If he continues to play how
- 17:44Speaker 5: he's been playing, he'll definitely be in that conversation.
- 17:48Speaker 2: But I think just the weapons that he has available.
- 17:52Speaker 5: To him really are able to unlock his full potential
- 17:58Speaker 5: as well, too. Looking at our receiving core, I love
- 18:02Speaker 5: how everyone compliments each other, and we don't really have
- 18:06Speaker 5: two of the same type of receiver. Jacoby is tough,
- 18:10Speaker 5: and and sure catcher, goes over the middle, not scared
- 18:16Speaker 5: to get hit. Parker, get the ball in his hands
- 18:19Speaker 5: and he's magic and, you know, working the slot. Elite
- 18:24Speaker 5: route running, great hands. And then you go over to BT, BTJ,
- 18:31Speaker 5: the deep threat, being able to track the deep ball
- 18:33Speaker 5: and unlocking a defense. And then Josh Cameron getting a
- 18:37Speaker 5: touchdown and his first catch, Um, and all that he
- 18:42Speaker 5: showed during training camp and then Brenton Strange and our,
- 18:45Speaker 5: our tight end group as well too. Um, the weapons
- 18:49Speaker 5: are there, the ability is there and, you know, Trevor
- 18:54Speaker 5: is just, just dishing it out to, to who's open.
- 18:57Speaker 1: Yep. Your boss, one of your bosses, Tony Buscelli, is
- 19:00Speaker 1: a dear friend of mine. I love him. He used
- 19:03Speaker 1: to tell me there weren't many people where if he
- 19:05Speaker 1: had to face him the next day, he would keep
- 19:07Speaker 1: him up at night. Jason Taylor was that guy. Like
- 19:09Speaker 1: if he had to play Jason Taylor, Tony Buscelli was
- 19:12Speaker 1: not sleeping the night before. Same with Jason Taylor when
- 19:15Speaker 1: he had to face Buscelli. I'm wondering, is there an
- 19:18Speaker 1: offensive lineman where if you know you're facing him the
- 19:21Speaker 1: next day, you'll have trouble sleeping the night before?
- 19:25Speaker 2: Trouble sleeping?
- 19:27Speaker 4: Yes.
- 19:28Speaker 2: I don't think I have trouble sleeping.
- 19:32Speaker 5: I'm a very cerebral player in general, and I love
- 19:37Speaker 5: to prepare for my opponents. So just naturally, I'm going
- 19:41Speaker 5: to be going through my head, the game plan, how
- 19:46Speaker 5: I want to execute, and how I want to attack
- 19:48Speaker 5: the guy in front of me. There's been some weeks
- 19:53Speaker 5: where it's like, okay, this guy is more elite than
- 19:57Speaker 5: others and have to give some extra preparation. But the
- 20:03Speaker 5: way I look at it is it's an opportunity to
- 20:05Speaker 5: show what I'm capable of.
- 20:07Speaker 2: If I'm going up against a player that everyone thinks.
- 20:13Speaker 5: Really highly of and I'm able to have success, where
- 20:17Speaker 5: does that put me in that conversation?
- 20:19Speaker 2: So I look at it as an opportunity.
- 20:23Speaker 5: There's some great players in this league and I've had
- 20:26Speaker 5: some battles and some really good matchups.
- 20:30Speaker 2: Didn't come out on top of all of them. And
- 20:33Speaker 2: sometimes I do come out on top and.
- 20:35Speaker 5: That's why we love to play the game and we
- 20:37Speaker 5: love to compete.
- 20:38Speaker 1: Um, what was your reaction when you look now it's
- 20:41Speaker 1: gone the other way here because miles is out, but
- 20:43Speaker 1: what was your reaction when you heard Aaron Donald was
- 20:45Speaker 1: coming back and playing with miles Garrett?
- 20:49Speaker 5: Uh, when the rumors came out originally, you know, I
- 20:52Speaker 5: was a little bit like no way. And then as
- 20:56Speaker 5: you know, kind of a week went past, I was like,
- 20:58Speaker 5: Oh yeah, he's, he's definitely coming back. You know, it,
- 21:00Speaker 5: it makes sense. Um, you know, the, obviously I'm, just
- 21:07Speaker 5: like anyone else, was.
- 21:10Speaker 2: In shock.
- 21:10Speaker 5: Like, man, that's really crazy. They have a really good team.
- 21:15Speaker 5: You know, arguably, you know, the best defensive tackle of
- 21:19Speaker 5: all time. And, you know, who knows where Miles might
- 21:23Speaker 5: be right there, too, when he's done as well, too,
- 21:26Speaker 5: in terms of edge players.
- 21:27Speaker 2: So I think it was cool to see. It was good.
- 21:31Speaker 2: It was good for the league. You know, I'm a
- 21:34Speaker 2: defensive lineman.
- 21:35Speaker 5: I'm a fan of defense of other defense alignment in
- 21:39Speaker 5: the in the game in general and.
- 21:41Speaker 2: You know i thought it was good for the game
- 21:43Speaker 2: um you.
- 21:44Speaker 5: Know two two of the best players all time teaming
- 21:47Speaker 5: up you know cool to see i know now unfortunately
- 21:50Speaker 5: um we might not not see that tandem for um
- 21:55Speaker 5: a little while but you know i thought it was
- 21:57Speaker 5: cool i think created a lot of excitement and you
- 22:00Speaker 5: know good.
- 22:00Speaker 1: For them We'll get to the Armstead Academic Project. Fantastic
- 22:05Speaker 1: work that you and your wife are doing in just
- 22:06Speaker 1: a second here. But I'm wondering, is there a quarterback
- 22:09Speaker 1: that you haven't sacked yet in the NFL that you're
- 22:11Speaker 1: dying to get your hands on?
- 22:15Speaker 5: Um.
- 22:17Speaker 2: Yeah, anyone that I haven't sacked.
- 22:19Speaker 5: Yet, that's on the schedule this year.
- 22:27Speaker 1: But there's not one in particular where you're like.
- 22:30Speaker 2: I don't care who I haven't sacked yet, I'm trying
- 22:33Speaker 2: to sack them this year.
- 22:34Speaker 1: Where does your love of chess come from? You're a
- 22:37Speaker 1: chess player. What is your elo and where does your
- 22:40Speaker 1: love of chess come from? You were impressed with elo,
- 22:42Speaker 1: weren't you?
- 22:44Speaker 5: Yeah, I got, I got introduced to chess, um, really
- 22:49Speaker 5: just start playing on my phone. A few friends told
- 22:52Speaker 5: me about chess.com, start playing on my phone against people
- 22:54Speaker 5: around the world. And, um, you know, I got, I
- 22:58Speaker 5: got into it late, probably like four or five years
- 23:01Speaker 5: ago now. So I didn't grow up playing or anything. Um,
- 23:05Speaker 5: it was just a good way to pass the time.
- 23:06Speaker 5: You know, I enjoyed, I enjoyed playing. It was quick
- 23:09Speaker 5: and easy, uh, to learn and, you know, to get
- 23:12Speaker 5: better at. And, um, I feel like it's a good
- 23:16Speaker 5: way to pass the time, a much better addiction than
- 23:20Speaker 5: others that you could have.
- 23:23Speaker 1: What are the keys to being a good chess player? Patience?
- 23:27Speaker 5: The keys, I would say, is practice, really, just like anything. Chess,
- 23:33Speaker 5: you've got to practice. You've got to learn, study. Chess.com
- 23:39Speaker 5: has a great.
- 23:41Speaker 2: Game review site. Uh, so like you play and then
- 23:44Speaker 2: you can review the game, like.
- 23:45Speaker 5: The steps you made and what you were actually supposed
- 23:49Speaker 5: to do in that situation and tells you all your
- 23:51Speaker 5: failures and mistakes. So it's pretty cool. Cause you know,
- 23:55Speaker 5: I get that in football too. I go practice or
- 23:57Speaker 5: I go play and then I get an instant.
- 23:59Speaker 2: All right.
- 24:00Speaker 5: You, you didn't do this right. Um, so it's, it's
- 24:05Speaker 5: cool in that way. And, um, it's very, very similar
- 24:09Speaker 5: to football in that way.
- 24:10Speaker 1: Eric, who's the best chess player in the NFL?
- 24:12Speaker 2: Wow.
- 24:14Speaker 5: Um, that's a great question. Uh, I used to play
- 24:17Speaker 5: in this tournament with other players. Um, Colin Murray was
- 24:23Speaker 5: pretty good. Um, I don't want to butcher his last name,
- 24:27Speaker 5: but I think he won that tournament. Uh, Chido Uozu, um, cornerback. Um, he,
- 24:35Speaker 5: he looked really good. Um, so yeah, there's, there's some,
- 24:37Speaker 5: there's some great players. Um, some great chess players in
- 24:40Speaker 5: the league.
- 24:41Speaker 1: Let's talk about the Armstead Academic Project that you and
- 24:45Speaker 1: your wife, Dr. Melinda Armstead, you founded it. It supports
- 24:48Speaker 1: early childhood education. What do you guys do? You're doing
- 24:50Speaker 1: fantastic work. Tell us about it.
- 24:53Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 24:54Speaker 5: Our mission is to ensure that every student, no matter
- 24:57Speaker 5: their socioeconomic status, has the tools and resources they need.
- 25:01Speaker 2: To thrive now and later in life. And it's truly
- 25:08Speaker 2: all about.
- 25:08Speaker 5: Just creating opportunities and providing those resources so that young
- 25:15Speaker 5: people can achieve their dreams and their goals.
- 25:17Speaker 2: And we work with pretty much elementary.
- 25:22Speaker 5: School through high school students, all throughout the different spectrum
- 25:28Speaker 5: of their learning journey, everything from literacy all the way
- 25:34Speaker 5: to creating career opportunities later in life.
- 25:39Speaker 2: So we really enjoy it. One program that we're really.
- 25:43Speaker 5: Excited about that I think everyone can get behind is
- 25:46Speaker 5: our career camps program where we bring young people, high
- 25:52Speaker 5: school students to companies that teach them about careers, jobs
- 25:56Speaker 5: that they could have. And we've partnered with some amazing
- 26:00Speaker 5: companies and some amazing athletes to host these camps. Companies
- 26:04Speaker 5: like Amazon and Fanatics and Tarani and Bloomingdale's and.
- 26:11Speaker 2: Some truly amazing companies.
- 26:14Speaker 5: And we have, I think we have like 10 career
- 26:18Speaker 5: camps on the docket right now that we're currently already
- 26:22Speaker 5: scheduled with some amazing athletes that host these camps with
- 26:27Speaker 5: us and come and inspire the youth as well too.
- 26:30Speaker 2: So we're really excited about that.
- 26:33Speaker 5: And that is our big national program that we do
- 26:36Speaker 5: all over the country is bringing these.
- 26:39Speaker 2: High school students to companies to teach them about careers.
- 26:44Speaker 1: That's so awesome, man. Does your wife constantly put you
- 26:47Speaker 1: on the couch? I mean, what is she doing? Because
- 26:49Speaker 1: she's smarter, right? And so she's always right. That goes
- 26:51Speaker 1: without saying, correct?
- 26:52Speaker 2: Yes. Yeah, I think you learned that. I think you
- 26:57Speaker 2: learned that pretty quickly.
- 26:58Speaker 5: Every man should learn that.
- 27:01Speaker 1: Yes.
- 27:02Speaker 2: Pretty quickly.
- 27:03Speaker 1: All right, man. We appreciate the time. Good luck against Denver.
- 27:08Speaker 1: You wanted them to score some points last night, right?
- 27:10Speaker 1: That offense looked dreadful. And now they're going to try
- 27:12Speaker 1: to take it out on you guys.
- 27:13Speaker 5: I mean.
- 27:15Speaker 2: Yeah, that game, you know, week one is week one.
- 27:19Speaker 2: You know, anything can kind of happen. But. That game
- 27:24Speaker 2: got kind of out of hand. The Chiefs had a
- 27:25Speaker 2: good performance.
- 27:26Speaker 5: So we're going to watch the tape and learn from it,
- 27:29Speaker 5: and hopefully we can do something similar.
- 27:33Speaker 4: All right, sir.
- 27:33Speaker 1: We appreciate the time. Good luck to you this Sunday.
- 27:35Speaker 1: Good luck the rest of the season and continued success.
- 27:38Speaker 1: And keep up the great work with what you and
- 27:41Speaker 1: your wife are doing, man. It's fantastic.
- 27:43Speaker 2: Thank you. I appreciate it.
- 27:44Speaker 1: All right, man. Thank you.
