- 0:25Here's what's coming up on our program at the bottom of the
- 0:28hour, 12:30 or thereabouts, our friend Eugene Repay who covers
- 0:31Iowa State for the Des Moines Register.
- 0:34He will join us. We'll do women's basketball, the
- 0:36men as well as there's a couple of openings on TJ.
- 0:39Also Burger, your staff will do football with Eugene repay
- 0:42Cyclone related topics coming up here at 12:30.
- 0:47One o'clock Tom Kakert from hawkeyereport.com.
- 0:50Ben McCullum got a commit yesterday, a former Creighton
- 0:54player is going to be a Hawkeye. We'll do football, basketball,
- 0:58women's basketball, etcetera, with Tom Kakert coming up at
- 1:021:00. And then we'll head to Las Vegas
- 1:04and catch up with the VP of operations at Circa Sports.
- 1:07Mike Palm will join us. We'll talk about all the women's
- 1:10Final Four tonight, the men, obviously tomorrow, circus.
- 1:13Now that number on the opening game, Illinois, UConn, it was 2
- 1:181/2 yesterday on to 1 1/2 as the UConn money comes pouring in.
- 1:23So we'll talk to Mike Palm, well that and other subjects when he
- 1:26joins us at 1:30. Trent's plays of the day coming
- 1:29up about 1:50 or thereabouts. Circus sports sponsor those.
- 1:32And then we'll make wade off the bench with Sean and Lucas as
- 1:37they take you until 5:00. Kind of a light night.
- 1:39Sports related last night, a couple of basketball games.
- 1:43Creighton was victorious and as Greg McDermott tries to go out a
- 1:47winner, we certainly love to see that.
- 1:49Auburn. How about Auburn continued to
- 1:51advance in the NIT? That was one of the teams that
- 1:54certainly created the most, I don't know, blowback blowhards
- 1:58blowing back one in particular when it came to Auburn being
- 2:02left out of the tournament. But they're holding their own,
- 2:04to say the least in the NIT. Not that it matters very much,
- 2:08but anyways, basketball down the stretch they caught, boy, it's
- 2:12weaning couple of days at college hoops.
- 2:15Thursday, Sunday night, you'll get Tulsa, Auburn for the
- 2:17championship. You're going to be locked and
- 2:19loaded for that one. The baseball game is what?
- 2:22Didn't we just say it was a Detroit and someone, we talked
- 2:26about it early in the week. Cardinals.
- 2:28Yeah. Cardinals, right?
- 2:29Cardinals and the Tigers. But that's Peacock.
- 2:32But we do have Peacock on our DIRECTV.
- 2:34We think, we think we did we during college basketball.
- 2:37Yes, we found it. So that would make it a whole
- 2:39lot easier, right? Yeah, I'll probably dip my toe
- 2:41into it just because it's like I said, there's after, after that
- 2:46game on Sunday night. There's one game left, right.
- 2:49And then we'll turn our attention to Augusta and the
- 2:52Masters as they put a tee in the ground and get things going
- 2:55underway on Thursday. So might have had a little
- 2:57vacation that my wife Cindy and I took to Folly Beach, SC We
- 3:01drove and we drove through to and from Folly Beach, through
- 3:06Augusta. OK.
- 3:07And I guess they didn't know what to expect because I heard
- 3:10it's such a small, dinky little town.
- 3:12Nothing there, no hotels. You really can't stay there.
- 3:16I must have been in a different Augusta, GA because what I found
- 3:19was kind of like, I, I don't know, comparison population wise
- 3:24because I didn't see any of that, you know, the residential
- 3:26streets, but kind of like a like an Ankeney, OK.
- 3:29Like a bunch of, you know, Hampton Inns and Hilton Garden
- 3:33Inns and a bunch of, I saw the Hooters, the famous Hooters
- 3:36where John Daley would be holding court on signing
- 3:39autographs because he, I guess they can't do that on the
- 3:41grounds or whatever. So not allowed.
- 3:43No, but it was, it's beautiful. Well, I mean, you could see, you
- 3:47know, the, just the, the trees, etcetera.
- 3:49And obviously the gusta Nashville was on a, a tree
- 3:53nursery that way back in the day.
- 3:54That's what that was. But yeah, I just, as I got
- 3:57closer to it, I realized what we're going to be going through.
- 3:59It kind of got a little pumped up, was one of the not the
- 4:02highlights of the trip, but highlights of the drive anyways.
- 4:04You didn't get to go in. No, we could have gone, got off
- 4:07and and found it because there were signs, you know, Augusta
- 4:10turn left. But no, I had no desire to do
- 4:13that. I got something I think might
- 4:15make you a little bit excited because I'm gonna guess you
- 4:17haven't taken a look at the leader board for this week in
- 4:19San Antonio. No, not at all.
- 4:21Is at the top of the. Board, I hope Ricky Fowler.
- 4:23It's not Ricky Fowler. Okay, who is it?
- 4:24It's our guy, Bobby Mack. Is he playing well?
- 4:28We. Are going to have the better the
- 4:30price when we got him at 50 to 1.
- 4:32I don't think that's going to be available.
- 4:33In fact, I looked before the week began on Thursday.
- 4:36He was 30 something to 1. I saw, yes, I saw that too.
- 4:40I looked as well. And you know, I pulled, I pulled
- 4:43one of your plays. I don't know, a month ago or so.
- 4:46I bet him in every major. You did.
- 4:47Yes, because he's going to win one.
- 4:50And Bobby Mack is to golf with the Cincinnati Bengals.
- 4:54Los Angeles Chargers are to football for me.
- 4:56I will. There will never be a major or
- 4:59there will never be an NFL Super Bowl if one of these teams gets
- 5:02there that I don't have a winning ticket on the Chargers
- 5:04or the Bungles or Bobby Mack in a major.
- 5:07He is in good form, good, playing great this week.
- 5:10Yeah, He's 29 years old. Trent I.
- 5:13It feels like it's the time. It does.
- 5:15And and when I when I thought because you were the one that
- 5:18got me on it. And when I when I think back to
- 5:20his success, he's on the a leaderboard a lot.
- 5:23Yes, he. Is.
- 5:24I mean, not all of them, obviously very few are, but
- 5:27we'll, we'll see where it goes. But yeah, I've got Bobby Mack
- 5:30and you can't bet Scheffler. You can't bet Scheffler.
- 5:33And because he's been so inconsistent too, right?
- 5:36I mean you couple the price with just the is.
- 5:38It going up at all because of his inconsistencies or because
- 5:41of his name, people are going to bet him a little.
- 5:43Bit but you're not getting true odds, you're not getting fair
- 5:46odds for certainly the form that he is showing at this point in
- 5:48time. And boy, I know this is the one
- 5:52major for a lot of people. I mean, there's just in
- 5:54comparison to a lot of the other, most of the other sports
- 5:56we talk about like we don't get into real niche stuff until it
- 6:00really happens, right? And I know golf is the one that,
- 6:04but the Masters, I know for a lot of people it is different.
- 6:06It is. It's that one tournament that
- 6:08absolutely brings you in springtime, yes.
- 6:11It's just that. Right the the the rite of
- 6:13spring, right you go in there, you come off the final four, you
- 6:16go right in winter. Sports are in the in the
- 6:18rearview mirror. Let's get to summer and.
- 6:20Wouldn't it be great a week later if we had the NCAA
- 6:22wrestling tournament? It would be.
- 6:24It would be. It's out of sight, out of mind.
- 6:26You know and. You're going to bang that drop
- 6:28every every opportunity you get. And the pushback I get from the
- 6:31wrestling community is the international calendar makes it
- 6:34difficult, but not impossible. And about growing your sport.
- 6:38And we look around college athletics and I was reading an
- 6:40article last night that was just talking about more and more
- 6:43programs being cut at the Division One level and and what
- 6:46this new future is going to look like because of the money.
- 6:49And obviously the only thing that really makes money is
- 6:51football and men's basketball to a different degree.
- 6:53But I mean, it came up with Iowa State women's basketball because
- 6:57they get good crowds. Yes, yes, very good crowd and
- 7:01always have we go. Not always, but certainly the
- 7:03last couple of decades. We go back to the Iowa women,
- 7:06their back-to-back runs to a national championship.
- 7:08They lost money both those years.
- 7:10They had a sellout in Caitlin Clark senior year and they lost
- 7:13money. That is just a what TV money and
- 7:17how important that is. And that leads us into Cody
- 7:19Campbell. Yeah, Trent.
- 7:21We talked about it yesterday, but it it just, it still drives
- 7:24me more nuts, I think the further removed I am from the
- 7:27beginning of it. Texas Tech has never had to play
- 7:29a Friday game. Never.
- 7:30They're one of two. I think Iowa State's never had
- 7:32to play a Friday game. When they signed the contract,
- 7:35did they know that this could be a a possibility?
- 7:38Of course they did. Well, and here's this
- 7:41billionaire idiot that thinks he knows more than everybody.
- 7:43That thinks your mark answers to him.
- 7:45Did you see the toy? Yes, absolutely.
- 7:47I don't answer to you. You answer to me.
- 7:49You're 1 of ex schools in how many?
- 7:5216 in the In the Big 12, You're you're you know what?
- 7:57And he's not an athletic director.
- 7:58No, he's the head of the regions and he's the head of the regions
- 8:02for one reason. He's got the most money, right?
- 8:07And he spends his money and he's a former player.
- 8:10And I cannot for the life of me went the Texas Tech fans think
- 8:15that they've they gets their heads have just gotten so damn
- 8:18big that they ruled the roost. We are now the bully of the Big
- 8:2312. You had a great year in
- 8:25football. You got a great basketball
- 8:28program, OK Arizona State's pretty good right in football
- 8:34there. We anticipate BYU's not going
- 8:37anywhere in football in basketball as they continue to
- 8:40spend. Cody Campbell get out of the
- 8:42way, cash the checks. You're not Texas, you're not
- 8:46Texas. And I know that drives them
- 8:48nuts, but quit flexing they've made.
- 8:50One appearance all time in the Big 12 Championship.
- 8:53Game. There you go, right?
- 8:55Iowa State has more appearances we can go through.
- 8:57Missouri has more appearances. Missouri hasn't been there for
- 8:5915 years. Just I I'm right there with you.
- 9:02It drives me crazy when. I saw that yesterday, Trent.
- 9:05I I legitimately got angry. That's why I brought it up in
- 9:08the show yesterday, just because you know what it, I don't think
- 9:12that it's going to come to this, but it did start.
- 9:15It did ultimately end up like this when Texas started beating
- 9:19the war drums prior to when they made their move.
- 9:22I'll never forget. I say it all the time.
- 9:24If you're new to the show, I'm glad you are.
- 9:26If you don't have to apologize, I'm about to say it again. 2009
- 9:30or 10 or whatever year it was. I left work on Friday with Matt
- 9:32Perlton. I left work on Friday thinking
- 9:34we come back on Monday. The conference is dead.
- 9:36Everybody thought that, Everybody thought that.
- 9:39And ultimately, somehow miraculously, well, I think it
- 9:42had to do a lot with the Longhorn Network and the fact
- 9:45that that got shot down. But it's they're starting to
- 9:48bang the war drums and you don't have the power to do that.
- 9:52You're in the Big 12 conference. Be happy.
- 9:57There's nothing, there's nothing negative about that.
- 9:59Be happy. Of course, you're not the SEC,
- 10:01you're the Big 10, But you're more than treading water.
- 10:06They have an opportunity to take control of the conference
- 10:10because they have more money than everybody else.
- 10:13But these kind of things to take these little nits and be picking
- 10:16at them because you have to play on a Friday night.
- 10:19Trenton looks awful for Texas Tech.
- 10:21Texas Tech? Who's the most despised fan base
- 10:23in the Big 12? Would it be Utah?
- 10:28Utah the way that they. They came in and we're better
- 10:31than everybody else. And we're just, we're only here.
- 10:34Didn't Winningham say we're not going to be here long?
- 10:36And I'm paraphrasing. We, we, we, we'll be, we'll be,
- 10:39we'll be out of here before, you know what type of thing.
- 10:42And and they were very quickly anointed as the fan base that
- 10:47everybody hates. But now Texas Tech, maybe they
- 10:49want that. Maybe they want to be known as
- 10:51the the, the bullies of the Big 12.
- 10:54Or you're not. You're not you're.
- 10:55There's another adjective that describes what you are.
- 10:59There's some religious bigots out there that don't like BYU,
- 11:03right? That's a part of it too.
- 11:05There's that part of it and a little what religion phobia that
- 11:08guess that jumps in there. But overall, definitely Utah the
- 11:12way that they came. But Texas Tech is making
- 11:14themselves the hated team they are.
- 11:17And when you're acting like this?
- 11:18And very quickly made themselves in the last 48 hours and.
- 11:21Cody Campbell So he says, if I you allow me to pull all the
- 11:25conferences together are to get triple the money from TV if we
- 11:29do it the way that I want. And he's working with Congress
- 11:31to make it happen. And he's going to try to make
- 11:33this because he's going to do it.
- 11:34Guess what? You're going to have to play
- 11:36Friday games in order to get that revenue that you're talking
- 11:39about. You're not going to play all the
- 11:41games on Saturday, Cody. It's not going to happen.
- 11:43You're not going to get triple the money and the only window
- 11:46possible is Saturday games, right?
- 11:49Grow up your. Mark needs Friday, the Big 12
- 11:52needs Friday. The Big 12 is going to get way
- 11:55more exposure on a Friday than than being one of the multitude
- 12:00of games on Saturday where if you're a fan of that team, of
- 12:03course you're going to watch that at the expense of watching
- 12:06a, you know, a big Big 10 game or a big SEC game.
- 12:09But on Friday night, you're the only game.
- 12:12Yeah, you're the only game. And if you want, if you're a
- 12:14college football fan, people are going to watch rooting interest
- 12:18or not. I don't get it it, I don't get
- 12:21it. What is CBS doing?
- 12:23By the way, have you seen this story?
- 12:24What's that that CBS and I think this is great for us as sports
- 12:28fans. CBS is apparently this is the
- 12:34rumor from was it Oran or front office sports.
- 12:40One of those CBSTNTTBS are going to potentially and I say
- 12:46potentially form a ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN News, ESPN.
- 12:55What all the officer, President Mark, kind of kind of venture?
- 12:59Well, it makes sense after the sale of all that together.
- 13:04And now they're all under one umbrella as we move closer and
- 13:07closer to oligarchs across our country, Cody Campbell among
- 13:10them, as more and more the rich get richer and we consolidate
- 13:13all these different things. And it's in the grand scheme of
- 13:15things, not a great thing for, I think almost everybody in our
- 13:17listening audience. But it is our reality that we're
- 13:20getting closer and closer to. And you couple that with that.
- 13:23Now, does that work? You got some things, but did you
- 13:28flip over to TBS to watch a college basketball game this
- 13:30year during the regular season? Once.
- 13:33I saw Arizona, Arizona State, that's the only one that I can
- 13:35pick. Up it was a it was a marquee
- 13:37game and I did and I couldn't find it.
- 13:40Yes. And then ultimately I searched
- 13:42on exit and did find it, but no, I didn't.
- 13:45I didn't didn't realize that they were there for the longest
- 13:48time. Habits change.
- 13:50I understand that. The way we view television
- 13:52certainly is changing and and that's going to be a piece of
- 13:54it, too. Do you like it?
- 13:56I mean, I I didn't see the report so.
- 13:59Yeah, I, I mean, it's very preliminary at this point, but
- 14:03the fact that CBSCBS Sports Network, HQTNTTBS and TRU TV are
- 14:08all under the same umbrella, might that be a viable option
- 14:12for parking sports content? We shall see.
- 14:15We'll see where it goes. One other thing before we get
- 14:17into the final four, Nick Feldo, did you hear him going off on
- 14:21Tiger Woods? Well, did you see the video?
- 14:24The camera. What is it the the police?
- 14:27Video. Oh, no, I didn't see it.
- 14:29Oh, it is rough. Is it?
- 14:30I've seen the still photos of him in the lock up.
- 14:33Yes, yeah, yeah. And him in the back of the car.
- 14:36I did not see the video. I'll send those to you.
- 14:38It is sad, It's, it's sad. He's leaned up against the dash
- 14:43of the. Just completely out of his mind,
- 14:45has no idea where he is. And he had two opioids.
- 14:49I don't know if they're Percocet, they're Vicodin or
- 14:51whatever this du jour is, but yeah, this Nick Faldo just went
- 14:57off on Tiger and good for Nick Faldo.
- 14:59There's very few, very few that have the resume and the cachet
- 15:06and the backing, the respect amongst the industry to do that.
- 15:11It's not like Phil Mickelson because he couldn't do it.
- 15:13Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods, they were rivals.
- 15:15I don't know if Phil would have wanted to say anything or not.
- 15:18He's not going to be at the Masters either.
- 15:19But Nick Felder went absolutely off on him and I think it was
- 15:23great to see. Will Tiger get it?
- 15:26Is this the final wake up call? Is he headed down a path and no
- 15:29return? I mean, Trent, his reputation
- 15:32and how people saw Tiger Woods as the one of the greats.
- 15:37I'm not saying what he did on the court.
- 15:38Everybody saw what he did on the course.
- 15:40He's he's the best, in my opinion, the best to ever play
- 15:42the game, My opinion. But now and the opinions of
- 15:47Tiger and some of the skeletons that have kind of been, you
- 15:50know, glossed over in that proverbial closet of his are
- 15:53starting to re emerge. I don't know.
- 15:55I don't think so. I mean, have we heard about him
- 15:58going right to a rehab? We did.
- 16:00He did, apparently, But you know where he went to rehab in
- 16:04Europe. You know why he's concerned
- 16:06about his privacy? Didn't we just hear that same
- 16:08thing when he was asked about why aren't you getting a driver,
- 16:11Tiger? You have billions of dollars.
- 16:12I'm concerned about my privacy. And is it real?
- 16:17Who knows? Does the masters need to come
- 16:19out and say something? Would they come out and say
- 16:20something? I don't.
- 16:21Think they have to. He's not playing.
- 16:22He's not going to be at the Champions dinner.
- 16:25Oh, he's not. Well, he's over apparently in
- 16:26Europe. So you're right.
- 16:27I would think he's. I would hope that he stays
- 16:29there. You're right and if most rehabs
- 16:31are not done in a. Week.
- 16:32No. If you are, you didn't take it
- 16:34real serious. It's going to come.
- 16:35Back on top of it, he told one of the officers that he called
- 16:40the president. Try to get out of it, I guess.
- 16:43Yeah. Trump.
- 16:45Yeah, that's what Tiger was doing on the phone.
- 16:48Apparently not his lawyer, no. Call the president.
- 16:53Do you think that's a guy that is, you know what, I made a big
- 16:56mistake here, or let's see if I could go to the top and see if I
- 16:59could get out of this one. I'm going to call the president.
- 17:03And and that's been that's been confirmed.
- 17:05New York Post Tiger Woods boasted to cop he called
- 17:08President Trump before DUI arrest, body Cam video reveals.
- 17:13Really. But they they don't have him
- 17:14actually on the phone. There is a still picture I saw
- 17:18of him on his phone. Yeah, but I saw that picture.
- 17:21I had no idea who he was talking to.
- 17:22And who knows? He looked very hopped up on
- 17:25goofballs at that point. Well, he clearly was.
- 17:27Yes, he clearly was. All right, let's get into the
- 17:29final four, which begins tonight with the women.
- 17:32Yes, absolutely. I'm excited for it.
- 17:34Too I am too Yukon. I just.
- 17:36Want to see these teams actually play somebody else, right?
- 17:38That's on their level. And you had competitive games
- 17:40without a doubt. And I think we have four
- 17:43competitive teams. As I said yesterday, I was
- 17:46surprised. I, I just anticipated that UConn
- 17:50was going to be a double digit favor over everybody, everybody
- 17:53in this event. Now any not UCLA, it has gone
- 17:56up. It was 6 1/2.
- 17:57Where are we now? It's 7 1/2 now.
- 17:59So it's ticking up we're. Yes.
- 18:00So we're getting the steam that is coming in and you would
- 18:02anticipate that. I mean, women's basketball in
- 18:04comparison to the men, it's probably more of a late arriving
- 18:07running crowd that's going to be involved in this one so well.
- 18:10They're playing a brand, Trent, they.
- 18:12Absolutely are. But it's also a brand that they
- 18:14throttled last year. It's a brand that South Carolina
- 18:17has some losses this year. They're playing great at this
- 18:20point. They they really are, but it's
- 18:24still hard for me to come up with a path for the South
- 18:27Carolina team to beat UConn outside of UConn just not
- 18:30shooting the ball. And that goes every basketball
- 18:33game. Short of that, though, it is
- 18:35difficult to see a way that this happens, how you can envision
- 18:38this UConn team that nobody has been able to push.
- 18:41I mean, their game against Notre Dame was 18, and that's about as
- 18:45close as anybody has been against him throughout the
- 18:47course of the year. They are on a different level.
- 18:49They are absolutely stacked up and down the roster.
- 18:52You just look at these. Oh yeah, I remember that name.
- 18:53I remember that. Oh yeah, that was a five star.
- 18:56That was a McDonald's All American.
- 18:57That's what their roster is. It feels like that.
- 18:59Little down tick of UConn women's basketball is behind us
- 19:03now, right that. That this has been the team that
- 19:06Geno has been building towards and of course he would love to
- 19:08breakthrough last year and and get it done a season ago.
- 19:11But it feels like this is the group and they are still, in my
- 19:14mind, heads and shoulders above the rest.
- 19:16So regardless of who comes out of the other game, Texas and
- 19:19UCLA and that games, Texas is a slight favorite over UCLA and
- 19:23UCLA is a really good team as we know first hand watching.
- 19:27I would get destroyed as they did in the Big 10 championship
- 19:31game. The Iowa women look at 2 good
- 19:33games. I don't other than UConn being
- 19:36UConn, I don't have too much to to add to it other than I can't
- 19:41wait to watch it tonight. It's going to be pretty good TV
- 19:43though. Most of the baseball today is
- 19:45day baseball because there's so many teams that are opening day
- 19:49that they've been on the road for a week and now they finally
- 19:52get home and they finally get their opportunity to stage their
- 19:55opening day. So that's going to be great.
- 19:57I think the men's turn the men as we Fast forward to tomorrow.
- 20:03I'm totally clueless. I'm totally clueless.
- 20:06I've I have. Worked my way in circles in this
- 20:08both of these games. You have have has there been an
- 20:11occasion where at some point during the week you've liked all
- 20:13four teams? Yes, absolutely.
- 20:15Not me too. Yes.
- 20:16And and I've even come up with the times where I'm like, you
- 20:18know what, Maybe it's not a foregone conclusion that
- 20:21Illinois or UConn, whoever comes out there can push that team.
- 20:25Arizona or Michigan on the other side that that's not a foregone
- 20:28conclusion that we're going to get a game on Monday night.
- 20:30I've talked myself into that at different points, but then they
- 20:33come right back. Michigan, Arizona still do feel
- 20:36like on a different. Level they do.
- 20:38You know, if this was my take last night and it probably
- 20:41changed tonight. Full disclosure, if Michigan
- 20:46struggles to shoot threes, Arizona will win the basketball
- 20:51game. There.
- 20:53Simple as that. Yep, on the other the early game
- 20:59not the warm up back not. Fair.
- 21:00No, not at all. That's a great game.
- 21:02It's a great game. I can't I've I've come around to
- 21:06thinking I can't bet against. Danny Hurley, 17 and one ATS in
- 21:13the Sweet 16 or later in his career.
- 21:15He's just ripped off win after win after win when he gets to
- 21:19this point. Even last year, when they of
- 21:20course didn't get to this moment, remember, they pushed
- 21:23the defending. They championed Florida.
- 21:25To the break. They did in the round of 32.
- 21:27They had them on the ropes and. That was a that was a phenomenal
- 21:31game. Forgot about that.
- 21:32Yes, yes, yes, yes. One of the few games that
- 21:35Florida was lucky to get past the lead eight against Texas
- 21:38Tech, where Texas Tech blew The Big Lead in that one, the Auburn
- 21:41game as well. And of course, the national
- 21:42championship came down to the wires.
- 21:43So that was 1 though too. Hurley in March against
- 21:48Underwood there for the first time.
- 21:49I did see something today as Illinois was taking the practice
- 21:52floor. Which was 11:00, right?
- 21:54A lot of orange in the stands for that.
- 21:58One, I saw the breakdown of tickets, by the way, breaking
- 22:01news apparently, and I don't know why it took so long for him
- 22:04to say it, but Tommy Lloyd is apparently staying at Arizona.
- 22:07I just got a text alert and I just checked the Google machine
- 22:11and it's all over that. He is staying at Arizona.
- 22:15Yeah, a lot of orange in the stands, like 49% of the tickets.
- 22:19And Tony Hangen will get to you in just a second. 49% of the
- 22:23tickets have been snapped up by Illinois fans.
- 22:26I don't know. I said I sit here at 12:22 on
- 22:29Friday, subject to change. I think it's Yukon and Arizona.
- 22:34Yukon and Arizona I. Think, I think that's the match
- 22:36up. Your Illinois ticket would be up
- 22:38in smoke. I'm going to cash out.
- 22:40You're getting cash out. I'm just going to cash out.
- 22:41What are they offering you, 13 to 1?
- 22:4413 to 1. I got 80 to 1, You got 80 to 1.
- 22:48I don't think they'll win tomorrow.
- 22:49Yeah. And if they win tomorrow, I
- 22:50don't think they'll win on Friday.
- 22:52On Monday. I don't know if that's the right
- 22:54thing. I haven't done it yet.
- 22:58Do a little math. Let me do some back of the
- 22:59envelope here all. Right, let's take Tony, then
- 23:01we'll get a break. We'll get Eugene repay on Iowa
- 23:04State. Tony, thank you for being
- 23:05patient. Tony, how are you?
- 23:08I'm doing good. Enjoy the show, gentlemen.
- 23:10Well done. Thank you.
- 23:11Don't mean don't mean to double back, but I don't remember where
- 23:15I heard it. But as we all know, President
- 23:17Trump does love to tweet. And he did tweet out that Tiger
- 23:21did call him. He did confirm, confirm that he
- 23:25did call him. Now, I don't know if he got
- 23:27through to him, right. He thought it was a missed call,
- 23:29but he did tweet out that Tiger did give him a call.
- 23:32Because Tony, I think it was something along the lines of he
- 23:35was the one. Trump was the one that said in
- 23:37that tweet that Tiger Woods will not be playing in the Masters
- 23:40before all this came. To you know what?
- 23:41I saw that tweet. Yeah, that's what that was.
- 23:44I I it is? I mean connecting dots.
- 23:46Yes, it makes sense. Good call, Tony.
- 23:48Thanks for the call. We appreciate it.
- 23:49Appreciate you listening as well.
- 23:51I did see that. He was the one that broke the
- 23:54news. And was it from that phone call?
- 23:55No, it wasn't a tweet. It's a truth.
- 23:57Oh, a truth. OK, yes, yeah, because doesn't
- 23:59use. No, it doesn't use Twitter.
- 24:01Interesting. I, well, put it all together.
- 24:04Yeah. Unbelievable.
- 24:05Yeah. Tommy Lloyd, apparently.
- 24:06Jeff Goodman reporting. Tommy Lloyd announces he's
- 24:09agreed to a new contract to stay with the Wildcats.
- 24:12I'm staying with Arizona. Tommy, you got paid.
- 24:15So this was all about a new contract?
- 24:17Yeah. Leverage.
- 24:18Yeah. Yeah, I told you.
- 24:21Don't worry. No, I don't care.
- 24:22About it. So is it Billy Donovan?
- 24:24Or Oh my God. Because if it's not Donovan,
- 24:27that North Carolina job, you look at the list of candidates,
- 24:31Trent. It's North Carolina and it's
- 24:33still open. But it's an ACC square.
- 24:35I get it. I get it.
- 24:37It's the finance. Yes, it is.
- 24:39You're right. And on top of it, one of the
- 24:41things that I heard at the beginning of this, right after
- 24:43they, it was actually in that interim weird period where they
- 24:46hadn't fired Hubert yet. They were still deciding what
- 24:49they were going to do. I think a component of that was
- 24:52all the money that they've invested into football, They
- 24:57have taken a ton valid check doesn't come cheap of their
- 25:00capital into the football program renovations, what we're
- 25:04doing, what we're doing in the NIL space, a lot of their
- 25:07coffers are going to football. They don't have it.
- 25:10And you're at ACC school. And as great as North Carolina
- 25:13is, one of the best public institutions in the country, and
- 25:16all the great things about that job in the past, we know what
- 25:19it's about today. Well North Carolina if it would
- 25:22have been Tommy Lloyd. I saw this yesterday.
- 25:25They owe Hubert Davis 5 mil. The buy out to get Tommy Lloyd
- 25:29away from Arizona was 9 mil. OK so that's 14 mil before he
- 25:33even signs the contract. I don't know what the assistants
- 25:36are if he would bring his Well it's it's water under the bridge
- 25:39now he's staying at Arizona. Wow.
- 25:42Well, the the good news is as far as the if, if the North
- 25:48Carolina job, I was always told that back in the day, this was
- 25:52the biggest job fair in college basketball, the final four that
- 25:57there's all the coaches are there, they're all hobnobbed.
- 25:59They're all networking, I guess is the term we use now.
- 26:02They're all networking and we'll see where it goes.
- 26:05But Tommy Lloyd is going nowhere.
- 26:07He is staying in Tucson. That's good news for the Big 12.
- 26:09It is. It's great news for the Big 12.
- 26:11I agree with you. We'll take a time out.
- 26:13We'll come back. Eugene Repay on Iowa State,
- 26:15Miller and Condon on a Friday. It's the Iowa Sports Radio
- 26:19Network. I just passed 12:30 on a Friday
- 26:32Miller in Condon, Iowa Sports Radio and we got a text that
- 26:35Iowa State has played on a Friday night and yes they have.
- 26:38Oklahoma. State I guess one of the bigger
- 26:41games Jeff what do you remembers that game very well and so does
- 26:44all the fans that were in attendance as they rushed the
- 26:47field what a what a scene that. Was and the Alabama fans that
- 26:50got them into the national championship game?
- 26:52Yes. Yes, yes, that's a great point.
- 26:54Absolutely great point. It was unbelievable.
- 26:59Jim Brinson, Joe Quinn. I think Joe Quinn, my friend
- 27:05Jeff Holdorf was a huge Cyclone fan.
- 27:08Yes, we had the. Do we have the coverage of the
- 27:114A championship game that night? It was the 4A football
- 27:14championship at the Dome that night.
- 27:15I don't remember who played, but I know that we, we I was on our
- 27:18Airways because Brinson called it.
- 27:20OK. Yeah, Brinson called it back in
- 27:22the day. All right, good stuff.
- 27:24Let's get to our friend Eugene Repay.
- 27:26He and his colleague Travis Hines have been busy.
- 27:29Good to talk to you, Jean. How are you?
- 27:31I'm good. How are you guys doing?
- 27:33OK, doing OK. Very few dull moments covering,
- 27:37covering college athletics. Just when you think it's going
- 27:40to slow down a little. It certainly hasn't for you, has
- 27:42it? No, no, no.
- 27:45But that's also kind of the fun and the adventure in all of
- 27:48this. You know, there's never, it's
- 27:49always something different every day.
- 27:51You never know what's going to happen.
- 27:52No, no doubt about it. So I guess let's start with the
- 27:56the women's program and clearly the Audie Crooks news really
- 28:00reverberated. And this is no offense to the
- 28:02other players on the team, but this is the all eyeballs were on
- 28:06Audie waiting for her decision. She's made her decisions, she's
- 28:10moving on. And not great news for Bill and
- 28:15the Iowa State Woman's Program. No, just a huge crushing blow.
- 28:20You already saw the other departures coming in from Jada
- 28:23Williams and other players throughout the roster and then
- 28:25naughty crooks. Now to deliver that kind of
- 28:28that, that final death punch or that that final mail there is,
- 28:32it's definitely just crushing, just a huge blow for the program
- 28:36who now just has to rebuild itself and at this point in
- 28:39time. It's going to be a lot of
- 28:41rebuilding and certainly a lot of new faces that are going to
- 28:44be there. On the heels of the announcement
- 28:46from Audie Crooks, we get a release from the athletic
- 28:49director, Jamie Pollard, who for 7 minutes talks about the state
- 28:52of the programs overall, kind of the athletic department.
- 28:55Any takeaways from that? Anything that you thought was of
- 28:58substance that either calms the Cyclone fans minds or maybe
- 29:02raises even more concerns. I was going to say it seems like
- 29:06raises more concern is is probably the biggest take away.
- 29:09Just looking at all the different social media reactions
- 29:11and watching the clip myself. I, I'm not, I don't disagree
- 29:15with anyone who's upset with it. I feel like the the whole video,
- 29:19while, you know, Jamie Pollard tried to provide some calm or,
- 29:24or, you know, kind of, you know, calm some nerves for some of the
- 29:27Cyclone fans. I really think that it just
- 29:29raised more just concern. It just seemed kind of from,
- 29:33from my point of view, just seemed kind of tone deaf in a
- 29:36way. It just seemed like, you know,
- 29:38you're trying to blame or trying to put the the problem on on
- 29:41other things. Like this is the reality of
- 29:43college sports right now. I think that, you know, at this
- 29:46point in time, we're in a we're a few years into the NIL era.
- 29:49You can't really blame it on that anymore.
- 29:51I mean, so many other schools are dealing with it, but you
- 29:54know, at this point in time, you do have to adapt or whatever it
- 29:57may be. And I think, you know, putting
- 29:59the blame on on the system or on the individual, it's not really
- 30:04productive at this point. And I think that Cyclone fans
- 30:07have every reason to be disappointed with kind of or
- 30:10just uneasy with where it's at. I mean, the women's program
- 30:13especially just got massive blows the, and just just looking
- 30:18at that 6 minute, I think it was 6 1/2 minute message.
- 30:22I don't think I if I was a Cyclone fan, I I wouldn't come
- 30:25away from that feeling better about things.
- 30:27No, there was, There was. What about isms in there?
- 30:29Nobody cares what's going on with the Oklahoma State program
- 30:32and the football programs, Not even anywhere close to what's
- 30:35going on with the women's program.
- 30:37We'll see where it goes. What I want to ask Eugene and I,
- 30:40I asked Tommy this yesterday and I should have followed up and
- 30:43ate at me all night yesterday. Apparently Fenley has a lifetime
- 30:48contract, but we're under the assumption that the contract
- 30:53ends next year. So I hope for Bill Fenley's
- 30:56sake, his life's not going to end next year because when I
- 30:58hear lifetime, that tells me he can leave when he wants.
- 31:01Why are we so confident or has he said anything that, you know,
- 31:06next year's going to be my last year?
- 31:08Are we sure that Fenley will leave after next year?
- 31:12Yeah, we can. Tommy would definitely know
- 31:14family more than than myself. But I feel like there's no real
- 31:18assumption in that, especially just kind of now given where the
- 31:21current state of the program is. I wouldn't be surprised now if
- 31:24he tries to stay a couple more years to at least get it in a
- 31:26better place. You know, still be a complete
- 31:29roster rebuild at this point. I'm sure when Bill Finley signed
- 31:32that contract or when things were on the move with that
- 31:36extension, you know, they, they had all the pieces to be in a
- 31:39great place. Things were looking good.
- 31:41They had your core players to build around.
- 31:44And now at this point, it's just so many unknowns and and I feel
- 31:46like Bill family wouldn't want to ride off into the sunset at
- 31:49this point in time, either this year or next year.
- 31:52So we'll, we'll see what kind of movies he's able to make and in
- 31:55order to kind of get this program back under under, you
- 31:58know, get it to like back under it.
- 32:00But right now I, I don't know if there's a real guarantee whether
- 32:04or not he he stays or leaves. Like I wouldn't be surprised if
- 32:07he does stay beyond next year. And had a mass exited a couple
- 32:10years ago, was able to turn it around very quickly.
- 32:12And that's the hope, I guess, recycling fans at this point as
- 32:15well. Eugene, another topic a little
- 32:17bit off the beaten path for us. But in the Big 12 that Ken and
- 32:20I've been talking about quite a bit these last couple of days.
- 32:23I'm sure you saw the back and forth with Brett, your mark, the
- 32:26Big 12 commish, and Cody Campbell, the big money donor
- 32:30down at Texas Tech, the back and forth that has been going on
- 32:32there. Any take away on that?
- 32:34And from an Iowa State perspective, look, they're
- 32:36swimming in different waters. We know financially in the
- 32:39athletic department compared to Texas Tech.
- 32:41But for a guy to say no, we don't want to play on Friday
- 32:44nights when that's where the money's coming from for the
- 32:46whole conference, from TV contracts, just feel felt very
- 32:49short sighted. Yeah, no, I, I would, I would
- 32:52agree. And and you know, Brett, your
- 32:54mark too, seemed like the the clash of big egos, big money
- 32:57guys just going back and forth there.
- 33:00But no, I, I think that's just kind of like the the state of
- 33:04college athletics right now where we're ruled by the TV
- 33:06contract or ruled by the big money.
- 33:09So I feel like if the the big boss says you got to play on a
- 33:12Friday, you got to you got to play on a Friday and.
- 33:15It's not like I'm guessing I wasn't in the room when they all
- 33:18saw the schools signed the contract.
- 33:20They were aware that there's going to be, they're going to be
- 33:23asked to play on, you know, nights that they normally would
- 33:26have, wouldn't have in the past. Man, they play Thursdays for
- 33:29crying out loud for the longest time.
- 33:32I mean, I, I hope that it doesn't get to a point that
- 33:34they're playing on a Tuesday or a Wednesday, but at this point
- 33:37you've, you need your conference to be relevant.
- 33:40Then your mark sees that he's going to back.
- 33:43Texas Tech knew that there was a there was a chance they would
- 33:45play a Friday night game. And I'm sick and tired of this,
- 33:48this joker talking about it's just different here.
- 33:52OK, But it doesn't mean it doesn't mean any more in Texas
- 33:57than it does to, to football fields across Iowa or Nebraska
- 34:01or Florida or fill in your state.
- 34:04It's not different. It might be bigger in your mind,
- 34:07but it's not different. It's Friday night.
- 34:10Exactly. Like to everyone else, you know,
- 34:12there's still 49 other states in the country.
- 34:15I'm sure he probably feels a certain way about Texas Tech and
- 34:19Texas. But to us here in Iowa or to
- 34:21someone else in another state across the country, there's
- 34:25really no difference. Like, you know, you just play
- 34:27the games. I'm hoping that it won't get
- 34:29ridiculous to the point where it's kind of like match in where
- 34:32we get Tuesday night games or Wednesday night games.
- 34:35But yeah, right. Right now, I do agree with your
- 34:39take there. Back to the Cyclones and now an
- 34:42offseason upon us on the men's basketball side, which is a part
- 34:45of your main beat along with football.
- 34:47The transfer portal going to be opening next week.
- 34:50It's going to be certainly the good thing about Iowa State is
- 34:53it they always find a way, right?
- 34:56They just they find a way. They find guys that fit.
- 34:59How much do you anticipate though, Guys that are departing,
- 35:01guys that are leaving? There was a talk about
- 35:03Manchilovich obviously looking to leave at least a minimum to
- 35:07go out there and see what kind of his NBA report card is going
- 35:10to look like. How much movement from the
- 35:12current roster outside of the graduating seniors do you
- 35:14anticipate? I don't anticipate too much, but
- 35:18I'm very curious to see what the the situation will look like
- 35:21when it's over. You can never be too sure
- 35:23nowadays. Like, you know, there's always
- 35:25surprises. There's always guys that you
- 35:28believe are locked, end up not being locked.
- 35:31So you always have to just kind of stay on your toes.
- 35:33I think Mom Chilovich will be the most curious one.
- 35:36I'd imagine that he tests the pro waters without a doubt.
- 35:39I'm curious to see, you know, if if he doesn't choose to GoPro,
- 35:43will he come back to Iowa State? We look to go elsewhere.
- 35:46What will his NIL be like? You know, I'm sure there's a lot
- 35:49of moving parts there for him, but outside of that, like I, I
- 35:52would love to see the freshman come back as in Jamarian,
- 35:56Bateman, Killian Turay and Dominicus played.
- 35:59I think that those guys will be a nice core to build around for
- 36:02the future for the next few years.
- 36:04Especially when you look at a guy like Bateman, the year he's
- 36:06had played as well. He can develop into a nice big
- 36:09alongside Blake Buchanan, but just looking at the rest of the
- 36:12roster, like I, I think the graduating class is definitely
- 36:16the, the huge hit there. You lose, let's see, you lose
- 36:18Jefferson, you lose Nate Heisey, But I, I don't really anticipate
- 36:22too many moves outside of Bob Tilvich maybe going pro in the
- 36:28in the main rotation. I'd love to see what Davion
- 36:30Mitchell does. And I, and I do think that Mason
- 36:32Williams will be a huge wild card next year with, you know,
- 36:34what will he look like once he's healthy.
- 36:36So right now I'm not anticipating too many
- 36:39groundbreaking earth shattering moves, but you can never be too
- 36:42sure nowadays. No doubt a couple of coaching
- 36:47positions available on TJ staff. Are you hearing anything in that
- 36:51regard? Right now it's I know that TJ
- 36:56Altelberger from I've heard is, you know, working on it.
- 37:00I don't think that there will be any moves any like in the direct
- 37:04near future, maybe this week or next week.
- 37:07But I'm curious to see how he fills it in where he's going to
- 37:10go for his new assistants. He had one vacancy to worry
- 37:14about. Now all of a sudden the UNI job
- 37:16opened up and now he's lost two of his top assistants.
- 37:19So I'm really curious to see how the search does and how he taxed
- 37:22it. And also, will he continue to
- 37:24keep the quote UN quote coordinator system?
- 37:27We had Cal Green and Jr. one basically running the defense.
- 37:32They had their Crawford and H Mitty running the offense.
- 37:35So I'm curious to see, you know, when you have to replace half
- 37:38your top assistance. Is he still going to maintain
- 37:40that system? Is he going to change it up?
- 37:42So there are a lot of things here for TJ, also Burger to
- 37:46consider moving forward. Do you know if he's at the final
- 37:48four? I actually don't know if he's
- 37:52there personally. I would be surprised.
- 37:53I know it's like a big yeah, like a big networking flash,
- 37:57like, you know, the who's who of college basketball.
- 37:59So I wouldn't be surprised if he's there.
- 38:00Yeah, I think almost every college goes there every single
- 38:03year and make that happen. And yeah, maybe in learning
- 38:06right to somebody different, somebody outside of your circle,
- 38:09Yeah, definitely makes a whole lot of sense.
- 38:11Not only that, now you have this, you're going to have the
- 38:13portal, which is incredible. And I know we know it here, you
- 38:15know it on the newspaper side. This drives a lot of clicks, no
- 38:19doubt. Transfer portal season.
- 38:21Y'all just got spring football going on.
- 38:22You had an opportunity, I know to talk to some assistants
- 38:24earlier in the week. You had earlier than that you
- 38:27had coach Rodgers. So and we're going to get some
- 38:29kind of open practice at the end of things to at least maybe put
- 38:33a face with some of these guys that we're learning about at
- 38:35this point in time. This has got to be.
- 38:37I know it's early in your career, Eugene, but this is
- 38:39going to be odd trying to figure out this football roster
- 38:41compared to what you've been used to these last couple of
- 38:43years. Even the guys that I've spoken
- 38:46to, the other Iowa State reporters who've been around the
- 38:48block way longer than me, at least 10 years, we're, we're all
- 38:52in the same boat here. It's kind of like, you know
- 38:55what, what are these guys actually capable of?
- 38:57It's nice that we're meeting players like Cameron Pettaway
- 39:00hearing his story or Max Balloon, who was with Jimmy
- 39:03Rogers since the South Dakota State days followed him to
- 39:06Washington State. Now he's here in Iowa State
- 39:08projects to be one of their top lineman ideally, but until we
- 39:13see these guys on the field, it's really hard to rush to any
- 39:16conclusions, rush to any judgments.
- 39:17I mean, the open the the main message just from talking to
- 39:20players and the coordinators and Jimmy Rogers so far is that it's
- 39:24really a wide open battle for all spots in the depth chart.
- 39:28The 2D is really undetermined. There were no favorites.
- 39:31There's like no guy where they're like, oh, you're looking
- 39:34to be a starter this year. So, so much is up for grabs.
- 39:37And when you have over 100 new players and a completely new
- 39:41system, anything really goes. So it's really hard for anyone
- 39:45to reject. And it seems like this from
- 39:47talking to other reporters and people who've been around
- 39:49longer, we're all just kind of like, all right, we're, you
- 39:53know, this is the adventure. We're going along with it and
- 39:55we're going to see how this unfolds.
- 39:57I mean, hopefully we'll get more insight as the spring comes out
- 40:00or once that open practice occurs.
- 40:02But even then. So much will probably change by
- 40:04the time we get through summer and then when we get to fall
- 40:07camp pre season and then week week zero, week 1.
- 40:11What will that depth chart look like then?
- 40:13Yeah, going to be fascinating. I saw some of the quotes and
- 40:16some of the players that were mentioned with either one of the
- 40:19coordinators and I just like who are these guys?
- 40:22You know, I heard of Ross Cup, I heard of Flora, I heard of
- 40:25Willock, the receiver Overbee, but other than that and they
- 40:30probably listed 20 players and they I don't I never heard of
- 40:34these dudes. This that's just completely new
- 40:36for everybody. So you're not alone.
- 40:38Everybody in the media on the same footing with that one.
- 40:41Eugene, did you say anything? Good stuff, Eugene repay.
- 40:45Appreciate it. Who do you have this week
- 40:47football wise? Do you know, Have you seen the
- 40:49list? We will know until Monday, but I
- 40:53believe we're we're going to start cracking into the the
- 40:55position groups on starting on Monday and Wednesday.
- 40:58Good stuff we'll get to know. Good stuff, and we'll pick your
- 41:01brain about that when we talk to you on on next Friday.
- 41:05By the way, who's cutting down the Nets on Monday night in
- 41:07Indianapolis? I still like Arizona.
- 41:11I still like, I still like the Wildcats.
- 41:13Good stuff Eugene, have a great weekend.
- 41:16Enjoy the games. Appreciate what you do for Trent
- 41:18and I and the Iowa Sports Radio Network.
- 41:20Thank you, Eugene Rupee. Thank you guys, have a good
- 41:23weekend. You do the same Eugene repay Des
- 41:25Moines Register desmoinesregister.com for you
- 41:29Gene going to be fascinating. What what day was that Trent?
- 41:32I think it's the same day as I was holding theirs.
- 41:34Is it the? 25th that sounds right.
- 41:37I got an e-mail in here somewhere, but yes, got the
- 41:40e-mail from Iowa State and something that needed to be
- 41:42done. Absolutely, without a doubt.
- 41:45You mentioned it right from the get go and and what we saw was
- 41:47happening obviously with after Campbell's departure, you got to
- 41:51get the fan base to know these tests and even if it's just a
- 41:53glimpse. Give them a taste.
- 41:54It goes a long, long way. It does.
- 41:57Then let them have them run, run around, or, you know, meet them,
- 42:00have a meet and greet afterwards, which I'm sure
- 42:02they're going to do. They got to sell season tickets
- 42:04after all. Miller and Condon, our final
- 42:07segment of the first hour, Tom Kecker kicks off hour number
- 42:10two. Mike Palm will be in, well, he's
- 42:11in Vegas. We'll join him for a segment
- 42:13coming up at 1:30. We're on the Iowa Sports Radio
- 42:16Network. Hi, Mory Condon, welcome back
- 42:34Iowa Sports Radio Network. Our final segment of our number
- 42:37one Tom Kicard on Iowa Mike Palm Vegas related topic
- 42:42circussports.com coming up in the second hour of the program.
- 42:46You know, back to Iowa State football.
- 42:47It's it's going to be different. I think for us as well, you
- 42:51know, trying to decipher battles because we don't know who
- 42:53they're battling against, right? It's it's essentially right now
- 42:56it's two names. We we don't know.
- 42:59I mean, maybe we can go back and clean some of the stats, nothing
- 43:04more. I wouldn't think of the players
- 43:06when they were at Washington State, but what what, what it's,
- 43:11it's so different. It is, absolutely.
- 43:12We feel like we at least have a baseline.
- 43:14Normally most years. That baseline's gone now.
- 43:16It's gone, doesn't mean that we have.
- 43:18Baselines in Happy Valley it is it.
- 43:20Is I was just listening to something, I think it was last
- 43:24week, it was the Visen College Football Betting podcast with
- 43:28our buddy Tim Murray, who you know, Tim, great guy.
- 43:31We didn't get Tim on during the summer because he's still
- 43:34turning out contact. They're talking about win
- 43:35totals. They were talking about Penn
- 43:36State. College football already.
- 43:39And they were talking about Penn State and it was just so weird.
- 43:43They are starting to talk about Carson Hansen.
- 43:45It's just just I, it's like mind boggling, right?
- 43:50They're talking about Carson Hansen. 9 1/2's the number for
- 43:53Penn State. Their schedule's incredibly
- 43:55easy, but this better that he had on actually was on the
- 43:59under. Was he on the under the 9 1/2,
- 44:01the 9 1/2? Despite that schedule, as easy
- 44:04as it is, I mean, I, I, I feel for Iowa State fans right now.
- 44:10Two of the faces of their athletic department within the I
- 44:13mean, it only could have been worse.
- 44:14As if Lipsy would have left, right?
- 44:16You lose Rocco Bect, you lose now Audie Crooks.
- 44:21It really and truly is. That's a 1-2 punch on top of
- 44:26things. Of course you lost your coach.
- 44:27Yes, coach. And taking in places you'd never
- 44:29been before. I get it why they're a little
- 44:32sensitive and I I truly do understand it.
- 44:34We'll see if Pollard and Fenley can pull it out, but there's no
- 44:37doubt in my mind now he's staying.
- 44:39And coupled with I saw a lot of regurgitating of what's happened
- 44:45in the Pollard and Light District.
- 44:47It's it's, I don't think it's going well.
- 44:48I get that sense. It's not I'm too led to.
- 44:51I believe everything's fine. Now, you know, at the beginning
- 44:54I didn't get it. I didn't get it either.
- 44:56And, well, he's just a Hawkeye fan, so he can't wrap his mind
- 44:59around it. It's one thing in Kansas City,
- 45:02right? It's another thing in Ames, IA.
- 45:05I never understood the population base.
- 45:07I was going to be able to support that outside of.
- 45:10The big events on the weekend? And we know the tailgating seed.
- 45:13It's great. That's exactly it's right.
- 45:15You don't need to touch that. So people are going to leave
- 45:19their tailgate where you buy a case of beer, right?
- 45:21And you sit around with your buddies to go to.
- 45:22A bar to go to Applebee's. And no.
- 45:25And pay 750 for a draw, right? No, no.
- 45:29You want to be outside the elements?
- 45:30Absolutely. Do what you've always done.
- 45:32It's as good a tailgating as ever been to.
- 45:34It's wonderful, it really is, and it's just still going to be
- 45:38there, but not to the I, I don't under and how are you going to
- 45:41get people there on a Tuesday night in February?
- 45:43Absolutely right, unless there's a basketball.
- 45:45Game unless there's a basketball.
- 45:46Game. But if there's not good luck,
- 45:48it's Ames. Are people coming from Des
- 45:50Moines to do that? Hey, let's go up to Ames.
- 45:52No, why would you leave Ankeny or West Des Moines or Altoona or
- 45:57wherever you reside? I don't get it.
- 45:59We'll see how it goes. Should have stopped after the
- 46:03bridge was completed. Got that one right.
- 46:06They love their bridge. Hour 2, Tom Caker kicks it off
- 46:10Mike Palm joins us as well. Trent's plays of the day.
- 46:14It's Miller in Condon on the Iowa Sports Radio Network.
