- 0:58Speaker 1: quick reminder that you can have the late edition of
- 1:00Speaker 1: this podcast delivered right to your phone, tablet, or computer
- 1:04Speaker 1: by subscribing wherever you get your podcasts. It's the greatest
- 1:08Speaker 1: thing since airline weather advisories. I had a tricky travel
- 1:13Speaker 1: schedule over the weekend. I had to get from an
- 1:16Speaker 1: eight pm UC game in Stillwater, Oklahoma, on Saturday night
- 1:20Speaker 1: to the Bengals game in Santa Clara, California, the next afternoon.
- 1:25Speaker 1: My original plan was to drive to Oklahoma City immediately
- 1:29Speaker 1: after the UC game, sleep for a few hours, and
- 1:32Speaker 1: then catch a six am flight to Denver before making
- 1:36Speaker 1: a connection to San Jose. That's the closest airport to
- 1:39Speaker 1: Levi Stadium. Well, on Friday afternoon, I got the following
- 1:43Speaker 1: text message from United Airlines. Severe winter weather across the
- 1:48Speaker 1: Rocky Mountain region has the potential to cause flight delays
- 1:53Speaker 1: or cancelations. Severe winter weather in October. In any case,
- 1:59Speaker 1: thanks to the warning, I was able to change flights,
- 2:02Speaker 1: avoid Denver and make it to the game on time.
- 2:06Speaker 1: So thank you American Airlines for the weather advisory. Now
- 2:11Speaker 1: let's work on expanding the leg room. It's time to
- 2:14Speaker 1: get to football and the radio replays from the Bengals'
- 2:17Speaker 1: most complete performance of the year. So it's second and
- 2:21Speaker 1: six from the forty nine ers seven burrowing the gun again.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Long count extends the hands catches the shotgun snap fires
- 2:29Speaker 1: one for the end zone, cot for the touchdown in
- 2:33Speaker 1: the back right corner of the end zone Tyler Boyd.
- 2:37Speaker 1: He spins the football in triumph and the Bengals go
- 2:41Speaker 1: eighty five yards on their opening drive of the day.
- 2:44Speaker 1: There's a tailback on either side of Purty McCaffrey to
- 2:48Speaker 1: his left, Mitchell to his right. Perty catches the shotgun snap,
- 2:52Speaker 1: hands it to McCaffrey and Christian McCaffrey goes low and
- 2:55Speaker 1: gets into the end zone. Karas snaps it back. Penalty
- 2:58Speaker 1: flag down. Has all day to throw, looking rolling right,
- 3:02Speaker 1: throw me to the end zone. Caught andre Yosi Vosh
- 3:05Speaker 1: with the catch. There's a penalty flag down in the
- 3:08Speaker 1: end zone. We'll see if that's his second touchdown catch
- 3:12Speaker 1: in as many weeks. There were two fouls during the play,
- 3:15Speaker 1: both by the defense.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Result of the play is a touchdown for Cincinnati.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Nice non second and nine. Burrow to throw. Has to
- 3:22Speaker 1: scramble up the middle of the field. He's got running room.
- 3:24Speaker 1: He's to the forty five fifty forty of San Francisco.
- 3:29Speaker 1: He gets tackled there, gets up, slaps his helmet, gets
- 3:33Speaker 1: a high five from Trevion Williams after his longest run
- 3:36Speaker 1: of the year.
- 3:37Speaker 2: What calf problem? Are you kidding me?
- 3:40Speaker 1: Adam Mida is ready to snap it back. Robbins looks
- 3:43Speaker 1: back at his kicker. Now Brad twists his head, puts
- 3:47Speaker 1: the ball down. Here comes the kick from McPherson.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Yet is good.
- 3:54Speaker 1: He hit it from fifty six yards away and the
- 3:58Speaker 1: Bengals lead. He's back to seven. Clock is running with
- 4:02Speaker 1: twenty two seconds left in the third quarter, first in
- 4:05Speaker 1: goal from the eighth. The Bengals turned it over at
- 4:08Speaker 1: the five. Maybe San Francisco will do something similar. Perdy
- 4:12Speaker 1: in the gun catches the shotgun snap keeps the ball
- 4:16Speaker 1: on a zone read. He's rolling right. He throws it
- 4:19Speaker 1: is picked off. Jermaine Pratt has the ball. There's a
- 4:22Speaker 1: penalty flag at the fifteen yard line. Pratt tipped the
- 4:26Speaker 1: ball in the air with his left hand and came
- 4:28Speaker 1: down with the interception. First and ten from the twenty
- 4:31Speaker 1: for the forty nine ers. Perty throws over the mental,
- 4:33Speaker 1: intercepting Hogan Wilson running back to the twenty five to twenty.
- 4:37Speaker 1: He gets tackled at the sixteen and brock. Perty has
- 4:41Speaker 1: thrown interceptions on back to back plays the final play
- 4:46Speaker 1: of the previous drive inside the ten, and now the
- 4:49Speaker 1: first play of the next drive, beginning from the twenty
- 4:52Speaker 1: first and ten from the seventeen. Burrow fakes a pass
- 4:56Speaker 1: to the right, throws toward the upside chase with an
- 4:58Speaker 1: over the shoulder cat.
- 5:00Speaker 3: Touchdown Bengals, and he does a backflip in the back
- 5:05Speaker 3: of the end zone.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Instead of the gritty he made like an Olympic gymnast
- 5:10Speaker 1: and did a flying backflip to celebrate his touchdown. Party.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Back to throw, moving to his right, throws back over
- 5:18Speaker 1: the middle, caught in the end zone by Christian McCaffrey,
- 5:22Speaker 1: his second touchdown of the game. One receiving one rushing,
- 5:27Speaker 1: and the Bengals lead is likely to be down to seven.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Burrow in the shotgun waiting for the snap from Teddy Karris.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Burrow catches it to ten, gives it to Mixing again
- 5:36Speaker 1: bouncy and watching it up.
- 5:37Speaker 3: He's on his way to the promised land touchdown. Bengals
- 5:43Speaker 3: Mixing dancing in the end zone and Cincinnati takes a
- 5:47Speaker 3: two touchdown lead.
- 5:49Speaker 1: Perty back to throw, Here comes Henricson. He's got him
- 5:52Speaker 1: the balls out. CJ. Hill recovers no penalty flag this time,
- 5:57Speaker 1: and that'll do it.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Unreal one.
- 6:00Speaker 1: A win for the Cincinnati Bengals as they come to
- 6:03Speaker 1: San Francisco and humble the forty nine Ers, the final
- 6:07Speaker 1: score thirty one to seventeen. Let's start our postgame analysis
- 6:13Speaker 1: by looking at a Joe Burrow masterpiece. He was vincent
- 6:17Speaker 1: van Joe Burrow completed twenty eight to thirty two passes,
- 6:21Speaker 1: that's eighty eight percent and at one point completed nineteen
- 6:25Speaker 1: in a row. He had two hundred eighty three passing yards,
- 6:29Speaker 1: three touchdowns, and no picks for a passer rating of
- 6:32Speaker 1: one thirty four point eight. That's the fourth best passer
- 6:36Speaker 1: rating of his career and his top mark in a
- 6:39Speaker 1: road game. He also ran for forty three yards, including
- 6:43Speaker 1: an escape where it was like he was in a
- 6:45Speaker 1: straight jacket wearing handcuffs underwater, and completed a ten yard
- 6:50Speaker 1: past the T Higgins even though T was well covered
- 6:53Speaker 1: on the play. Calf schmaff Here's Burrow with Dave Lapham
- 6:59Speaker 1: after the game.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a big win for us.
- 7:02Speaker 4: We executed well, still have some points on on the field,
- 7:05Speaker 4: had some mental mistakes. So just like every week, win
- 7:08Speaker 4: or loss. We're gonna we're gonna get better and improve
- 7:11Speaker 4: our mistakes.
- 7:12Speaker 5: Obviously physically. I mean you looked. You looked as good
- 7:16Speaker 5: as I can remember you looking. Do you feel one
- 7:18Speaker 5: hundred percent at this point?
- 7:19Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 7:20Speaker 2: I do.
- 7:20Speaker 5: I do.
- 7:20Speaker 4: It's still still a maintenance thing, still gotta you know,
- 7:24Speaker 4: stay up on my rehab, in my treatment. But you know,
- 7:27Speaker 4: it's feeling really good. Fell back to pretty much back
- 7:29Speaker 4: to normal. So it's nice to get back to moving again,
- 7:32Speaker 4: making plays.
- 7:32Speaker 2: With my feet.
- 7:33Speaker 5: How about Joe Mixon supporting You know, the effort, the
- 7:37Speaker 5: air effort was sixteen carries eighty seven yards five point
- 7:40Speaker 5: four per You also hit him three times for another
- 7:44Speaker 5: thirty yards or whatever it was. I mean he had
- 7:46Speaker 5: over one hundred yards scrimmage yard.
- 7:47Speaker 4: Yeah, he was unbelievable today. He you know, everyone saw
- 7:50Speaker 4: the plays that he made, the runs that he made.
- 7:51Speaker 4: But he was great in protection as well. Picked up
- 7:54Speaker 4: some some big time blitzes for us to push the
- 7:56Speaker 4: ball down the field.
- 7:56Speaker 2: So he was awesome.
- 7:58Speaker 5: When you were running the football, I was like, oh,
- 8:01Speaker 5: you split a couple of defenders a couple of times.
- 8:04Speaker 5: You weren't going to slide. You were going for every
- 8:06Speaker 5: inch you could get. I mean, you were just in
- 8:08Speaker 5: the zone today, weren't you.
- 8:09Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, that's really what I worked on for
- 8:12Speaker 4: the most part of the offseason was my athleticism and
- 8:15Speaker 4: in my speed. I just haven't been able to show
- 8:17Speaker 4: it really, so it was nice to see that, see
- 8:20Speaker 4: that work pay off.
- 8:21Speaker 5: Did they give you pretty much everything that you expected?
- 8:24Speaker 5: I mean you looked to be in such a rhythm.
- 8:27Speaker 5: It looked like you were not fooled by anything. You
- 8:29Speaker 5: knew exactly what you were looking at every single snap.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:32Speaker 4: They You know, we had a great week of practice,
- 8:34Speaker 4: had a great week of prep, so we were confident
- 8:36Speaker 4: coming in we were able to.
- 8:37Speaker 2: Execute final question.
- 8:40Speaker 5: Now you're above five hundred, Here come the Buffalo Bills
- 8:44Speaker 5: on Sunday night. Got to get that w in the AFC, right.
- 8:47Speaker 4: Yeah, it's like it's just one game, you know, we
- 8:50Speaker 4: can we won three straight, but every week is its
- 8:53Speaker 4: own thing. So we'll enjoy this one tonight, have a
- 8:55Speaker 4: nice plane ride back, enjoy tomorrow, and then get back
- 8:57Speaker 4: to work.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Congratulations on a big day, Joe.
- 8:59Speaker 1: Thanks the other Joe was outstanding as well, playing less
- 9:04Speaker 1: than ninety minutes from his hometown of Oakley, California. Joe
- 9:08Speaker 1: Mixon ran like a man possessed. At one point he
- 9:12Speaker 1: trucked linebacker Dray Greenlaw, and Joe finished with one hundred
- 9:16Speaker 1: and ten all purpose yards on nineteen touches. I spoke
- 9:21Speaker 1: to him in the locker room, Joe, that was one
- 9:24Speaker 1: heck of a homecoming, a tremendous victory for the Bengals
- 9:28Speaker 1: and a great game for you. You describe the equotions
- 9:31Speaker 1: you're experiencing right now.
- 9:33Speaker 5: Man.
- 9:33Speaker 6: To be honest, it was great to be at home.
- 9:36Speaker 6: I felt like we came in here and took care
- 9:38Speaker 6: of minis and due what we had to do.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Now, you know, head it on.
- 9:41Speaker 2: So it says I'm not.
- 9:42Speaker 1: Ere to do eighty seven rushing yards for you. Twenty
- 9:45Speaker 1: three receiving yards today, so more than one hundred yards
- 9:48Speaker 1: of offense and had a rushing touchdown. You looked like
- 9:51Speaker 1: every time you got the ball you hurt. Determined to
- 9:54Speaker 1: punish the forty nine ers.
- 9:56Speaker 6: Yeah, for sure, definitely was all go today and just
- 10:00Speaker 6: oh great man. Coach kept downing enough to run and
- 10:03Speaker 6: trying to do whatever we can to make him play.
- 10:05Speaker 6: So it was definitely a great feeling to be able
- 10:08Speaker 6: to deliver from our teammates. Long time coming, but now
- 10:12Speaker 6: just got.
- 10:12Speaker 1: To keep on going. Both Joe's were amazing. Joe Burrow
- 10:16Speaker 1: completed nearly ninety percent of his passes, three touchdowns, no picks.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Looks like the CAP's pretty good. Oh yeah, most definitely.
- 10:23Speaker 6: Joe coming here did this thing and I felt like,
- 10:26Speaker 6: you know, everybody on the offense, defense, even a special
- 10:28Speaker 6: teams had a hell of a part in this game.
- 10:31Speaker 6: We played complimentary football and I felt like it was
- 10:35Speaker 6: a long.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Time coming man.
- 10:36Speaker 6: So it was a great win, big win for us.
- 10:39Speaker 6: And now he's got getting ready to keep on the
- 10:41Speaker 6: stack and keep going.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Joe. This was the offense that you guys have been
- 10:44Speaker 1: hoping to produce all year long. You know you're capable
- 10:48Speaker 1: of it. You put it together for four quarters today.
- 10:50Speaker 2: Yeah, most definitely.
- 10:51Speaker 6: That was a great thing to see to be able
- 10:53Speaker 6: to come out here and play four quarters in football.
- 10:57Speaker 6: Still less of things out there, still got deces it up,
- 11:00Speaker 6: but that was a great deal. We'll see a great
- 11:02Speaker 6: thing to come out with the golf man, and that's
- 11:03Speaker 6: all that mattered.
- 11:04Speaker 1: The other team in the locker room right now is special.
- 11:07Speaker 1: Just tell us what this wedding meets everybody in this row. Oh,
- 11:10Speaker 1: it means a lot.
- 11:11Speaker 6: At the same time, we just got to keep building. Man,
- 11:14Speaker 6: We got a lot of We got a big group
- 11:15Speaker 6: of guys in here that you know, all we do
- 11:17Speaker 6: is you know, a night shine right, you know we
- 11:20Speaker 6: shine right it.
- 11:20Speaker 2: So we've got to.
- 11:22Speaker 6: Keep on going, keep on, uh, you know, playing with
- 11:25Speaker 6: a with our heads that can't be met and everything else.
- 11:29Speaker 6: Gonna take care of ourself as all as we execute.
- 11:30Speaker 6: And I say, it's a great thing to see the
- 11:32Speaker 6: great villain.
- 11:33Speaker 2: Now I's gonna get ready for Sunday.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Night, put go the cards and got a Golden Gates
- 11:37Speaker 1: tat on your chest, aren't you a definitely? And uh,
- 11:41Speaker 1: you're gonna for sure definitely.
- 11:42Speaker 6: Rev it for the family here really really who can
- 11:46Speaker 6: always look said right game to be able to come
- 11:49Speaker 6: back and get a dub out here in front.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Of home too.
- 11:51Speaker 1: Congrats had an awesome homecoming in a great performance. It's
- 11:54Speaker 1: not appreciate Joe Burrows. Twenty eight completions were spread out
- 11:59Speaker 1: to eight different targets, led by Jamar Chase, who finished
- 12:03Speaker 1: with ten catches for one hundred yards. That gives him
- 12:07Speaker 1: sixty catches through seven games of pace for nearly one
- 12:11Speaker 1: hundred and forty six catches for the season. The NFL
- 12:15Speaker 1: record is one forty nine by Saints receiver Michael Thomas.
- 12:19Speaker 1: I spoke to Jamar about his latest stellar performance, beginning
- 12:23Speaker 1: with a celebration that we hadn't seen before. All right, Jamar,
- 12:28Speaker 1: we knew you were a great wide receiver. I didn't
- 12:30Speaker 1: know you were a great gymnast him till today. And
- 12:33Speaker 1: tell us about the flying backflip celebration.
- 12:36Speaker 7: Yeah, this one that has some fun doing backflob I
- 12:39Speaker 7: did gymnastics when I was younger.
- 12:40Speaker 1: So run it with me, Bember and Pats before though
- 12:43Speaker 1: probably no, it was a little heavy, but I still
- 12:45Speaker 1: got it. Yes, you do ten catches, one hundred yards,
- 12:49Speaker 1: a touchdown and a great performance by the offense. How
- 12:52Speaker 1: about you sum up today? I said, we did go
- 12:55Speaker 1: over just here.
- 12:56Speaker 7: I was standing deefest today and nevn never got us
- 12:58Speaker 7: to win. Great they go without assignments today, but we
- 13:04Speaker 7: executed what we had Appatonius.
- 13:05Speaker 1: Student, he left a few points on the board. But
- 13:07Speaker 1: did you feel like this was the first time you
- 13:09Speaker 1: put four together, four quarters of good offense together?
- 13:12Speaker 8: I want to say so.
- 13:13Speaker 7: Yeah, we've definite that had an efficiency of going first down,
- 13:15Speaker 7: second on for a dollars.
- 13:16Speaker 1: So that's what we wanted to do.
- 13:17Speaker 8: Very day.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Joe Burrow completed about ninety percent of his past and
- 13:21Speaker 1: he ran for more than forty yards. Can we say
- 13:23Speaker 1: at least say at this point that the camp is
- 13:26Speaker 1: one hundred percent?
- 13:26Speaker 7: Oh, y'all need to say now, welcome back Borough, Tell
- 13:30Speaker 7: them back? What were you thinking about walking off the
- 13:32Speaker 7: field this long gass flight home.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Have good light, it's a happy plight, but it's still
- 13:37Speaker 1: the all tho. Yeah we last time you saw that
- 13:39Speaker 1: kind of energy on the sideline of uh.
- 13:43Speaker 7: I can't say it, man, but I don't not have
- 13:46Speaker 7: thought the energy before we got out here. Before we
- 13:48Speaker 7: got out the plane, you could feel the energy within
- 13:49Speaker 7: the team. So he's I thought, we probably a good day.
- 13:51Speaker 1: You stealing a new seasons like that again you feel
- 13:54Speaker 1: like a new season? Oh still the same season.
- 13:56Speaker 7: I mean it was still four and three, you know,
- 13:58Speaker 7: saying we started to get the way it's going up.
- 13:59Speaker 1: That's all. These are two of the best teams in
- 14:01Speaker 1: the NFL. What does this win mean me?
- 14:04Speaker 7: And allowed for the Pigs oppotunity out of the way
- 14:07Speaker 7: with in a merry go off and man the event.
- 14:09Speaker 1: But you know we came out with he was picking
- 14:11Speaker 1: me on dogs. How important were the fullest couple of
- 14:13Speaker 1: thrive the way Joe surgically let your guy down the field.
- 14:17Speaker 7: Yeah, that's how the boys thought out every possessional. I'm
- 14:19Speaker 7: saying every job, every and every time we get a
- 14:21Speaker 7: bomb bers on the game. You know that's how the
- 14:23Speaker 7: one started off. But you know, going get out deepen,
- 14:26Speaker 7: sending boy the make and did him rested in them
- 14:28Speaker 7: in the bag out there?
- 14:29Speaker 1: So your touchdown came right after Logan's check and that
- 14:33Speaker 1: was a big momentum swing. First his takeaway and then
- 14:37Speaker 1: Tad to get on the first way.
- 14:38Speaker 2: Yes, the great league call.
- 14:41Speaker 7: We've been setting up the big bubble all night and
- 14:44Speaker 7: here was Hello breatha on every bubble with both.
- 14:47Speaker 1: Today and you know we called that had the perfect
- 14:49Speaker 1: common way. You like the most catches when the Cincinnati
- 14:52Speaker 1: three way off contributed in the midway, I think t
- 14:55Speaker 1: had about six, Tyler caught a touchdown pass, Yoc got
- 14:58Speaker 1: in the ends again. Ye all of the weapons contributed. Yea.
- 15:02Speaker 7: Also that's what we need right at That's how we
- 15:04Speaker 7: make it a great offense look even better than grabs
- 15:06Speaker 7: on a great way, thank you.
- 15:08Speaker 1: After a one and three start, the Bengals are four
- 15:10Speaker 1: and three and in a three way tie for second
- 15:13Speaker 1: place in the AFC North with the Steelers and Browns,
- 15:16Speaker 1: who both lost on Sunday. The Ravens won and lead
- 15:20Speaker 1: the division by a game and a half at six
- 15:22Speaker 1: and two. Pittsburgh plays on Thursday night this week against Tennessee,
- 15:27Speaker 1: and the Steelers could be without starting quarterback Kenny Pickett,
- 15:31Speaker 1: who suffered a rib injury and Sunday's loss to Jacksonville.
- 15:35Speaker 1: The Browns have a home game on Sunday against the
- 15:37Speaker 1: one and seven Cardinals, and the Ravens have a home
- 15:40Speaker 1: game against the five and two Seahawks. The Bengals Booth
- 15:43Speaker 1: Podcast is brought to you by pay Corps, proud to

- 16:05Speaker 1: from head coach Zach Taylor. We spent a few minutes
- 16:07Speaker 1: with Lap after the game.
- 16:10Speaker 2: You're a souse sayer. You said first time was going
- 16:14Speaker 2: to be huge. You guys dominated on first down.
- 16:17Speaker 9: Yeah, the players understood the assignment, you know, and they
- 16:20Speaker 9: responded exactly how we knew that they would. And so again,
- 16:24Speaker 9: just really excited for the effort and the discipline that
- 16:26Speaker 9: those guys all displayed on both sides of the ball,
- 16:28Speaker 9: all three phases and earned a hard fought win today.
- 16:31Speaker 5: Joe Burrow twenty eight for thirty two. I mean, just
- 16:36Speaker 5: crazy numbers, three touchdowns, no interceptions. Describe what kind of
- 16:42Speaker 5: game the guy had.
- 16:43Speaker 9: It, can't, you know, And you don't even know that
- 16:45Speaker 9: that's happening, you know, it's just you feel the rhythm
- 16:48Speaker 9: of the offense.
- 16:50Speaker 1: He just does it so.
- 16:51Speaker 9: Often you don't even really appreciate it in the moment
- 16:54Speaker 9: when you hear those stats. As a former quarterback coach,
- 16:57Speaker 9: and man, you appreciate that, but we also know that
- 17:00Speaker 9: what goes into it is outstanding protection to where he
- 17:02Speaker 9: can trust what he needs to do and the receivers
- 17:04Speaker 9: doing what they need to do to win.
- 17:06Speaker 2: And that's what they did today.
- 17:07Speaker 5: And now when defenses say, all right, well we're going
- 17:11Speaker 5: to give the middle of the football field up Joe's
- 17:13Speaker 5: running like he's running six times averaging big numbers, you know,
- 17:17Speaker 5: scrambling and getting first downs that way?
- 17:19Speaker 2: How important and big is that critical?
- 17:22Speaker 9: I mean, just for a quarterback to understand what's the
- 17:25Speaker 9: best thing to beat that coverage because they got you
- 17:27Speaker 9: out numbered. They've got good, good guys in the secondary
- 17:30Speaker 9: and a linebacker. They got great rushers, so sometimes you
- 17:33Speaker 9: don't have a great advantage in the pass game and
- 17:34Speaker 9: some past situations based on the coverage they play, and
- 17:37Speaker 9: for Joe to use his feet and know that that's
- 17:39Speaker 9: the way to win, man, that's big time.
- 17:41Speaker 5: Red zone five times you down there, four touchdowns. He
- 17:44Speaker 5: did have to turnover. You know that obviously isn't something
- 17:48Speaker 5: that you're pleased about. But the execution. Four touchdowns and
- 17:51Speaker 5: five possessions in the red zone pretty good.
- 17:53Speaker 9: Coach, Yeah, that's obviously we want to go five for five,
- 17:57Speaker 9: but we knew coming on the road those four point
- 17:59Speaker 9: players were going to be and our guys found way
- 18:01Speaker 9: to make those plays and run game pass game.
- 18:03Speaker 2: It was good to see.
- 18:05Speaker 5: Crowd noise was another thing who talked about, and it
- 18:08Speaker 5: seems like you guys handled that especially well they did.
- 18:11Speaker 2: You know, I think we had a good plan.
- 18:13Speaker 9: Joe did a good job being a fishing gidding get
- 18:15Speaker 9: into the line and making the protection calls he needed
- 18:17Speaker 9: to make. He had to make a couple lod of
- 18:18Speaker 9: balls based on two play calls we had, and so
- 18:20Speaker 9: I thought that those guys responded the right way.
- 18:22Speaker 5: Defense holds this forty nine er offense to seventeen points
- 18:25Speaker 5: at home. I mean they had won eleven in a row,
- 18:28Speaker 5: pretty head and lost here. He'd won eight times without
- 18:31Speaker 5: a defeat. How big a statement is it that you
- 18:33Speaker 5: never trailed your defense held into seventeen you put up
- 18:36Speaker 5: thirty one.
- 18:37Speaker 2: That's huge.
- 18:37Speaker 9: You know, our defense has really played that way all
- 18:40Speaker 9: season long, you know, and we haven't always given the
- 18:42Speaker 9: opportunity to play with the lead, but that's always what
- 18:44Speaker 9: they've they've had in their back pocket. And so again,
- 18:46Speaker 9: anytime you can give that defense a lead, they're going
- 18:49Speaker 9: to be pretty dangerous.
- 18:51Speaker 2: Joe Mixon complimented things exceptionally well. In the running game.
- 18:54Speaker 5: He rushed for eighty three yards averaged, you know, on
- 18:57Speaker 5: sixteen carries, had an average five yards priorri He caught
- 19:01Speaker 5: balls for over thirty yards, had over one hundred yard
- 19:04Speaker 5: scrimmage day how big a companment was.
- 19:05Speaker 9: He Yeah, a guy comes back home like that to
- 19:07Speaker 9: the northern California area in front of his newborn daughter
- 19:11Speaker 9: is pretty cool. And I thought he played with a
- 19:12Speaker 9: ton of energy today then is really proud of him.
- 19:15Speaker 5: So, coach, you swept the NFC West, I mean four Oh,
- 19:21Speaker 5: now it's time to start stacking some wins against the
- 19:23Speaker 5: AFC and Buffalo comes to town on Sunday night. What
- 19:26Speaker 5: you first thought there and around the division? The only
- 19:31Speaker 5: other team that won was Baltimore, So it's a Baltimore's
- 19:35Speaker 5: got the best record, but everybody else is four and
- 19:37Speaker 5: three and just battle royal as it always is in
- 19:40Speaker 5: the division.
- 19:41Speaker 9: Yeah, this is we're always be in the same spot.
- 19:42Speaker 9: We always are, you know, and we're used to it,
- 19:45Speaker 9: and we control our own destiny. We get to play
- 19:47Speaker 9: all these teams again, and so we just take a
- 19:50Speaker 9: one game at a time. Starting Buffalo on Sunday night
- 19:52Speaker 9: at Peikor.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Cincinnati is an early three point favorite against the five
- 19:57Speaker 1: and three Bills, who have outscored their opponent by eighty
- 20:01Speaker 1: six points. That's actually the biggest margin of any team
- 20:05Speaker 1: in the NFL. Three of Buffalo's wins were by twenty
- 20:09Speaker 1: eight or more. Now time for the radio guys recap.
- 20:15Speaker 1: Trey Hendrickson got it it out today. Dave Lapham goted
- 20:17Speaker 1: it out today with a congested nasal cavity and a
- 20:23Speaker 1: horse voice. I'm not going to attach you too much
- 20:25Speaker 1: in this postgame wrap up, but my big takeaway today
- 20:29Speaker 1: or biggest takeaway there were several, is that this was
- 20:32Speaker 1: the offense we've been hoping to see all along. They
- 20:35Speaker 1: left some points on the board and still put thirty
- 20:37Speaker 1: one points on the board against the San Francisco team
- 20:39Speaker 1: that has not given up more than twenty three.
- 20:41Speaker 5: Yeah, it was a heck of performance, you know. And
- 20:44Speaker 5: talking with Joe Burrow after the game in the locker room,
- 20:48Speaker 5: you know, I said, man, you're back.
- 20:50Speaker 2: I mean, you looked unbelievable moving around. He goes.
- 20:53Speaker 5: You know, he said, I worked so hard on my
- 20:55Speaker 5: overall athleticism in the offseason.
- 20:57Speaker 2: Then you know, I was geared up and ready to
- 20:59Speaker 2: have a big year and couldn't do anything.
- 21:01Speaker 5: So now I'm excited to show you know what I
- 21:04Speaker 5: had done in the off season getting ready to have
- 21:07Speaker 5: this type of year or so look out. Twenty eight
- 21:10Speaker 5: to thirty two, three touchdowns, no interceptions and you know
- 21:14Speaker 5: the way the offensive lineman we're talking about it when
- 21:17Speaker 5: you know they're paid to play and they cover guys
- 21:20Speaker 5: and pressure's gonna get there when joking, you know, break
- 21:23Speaker 5: break out of the pocket and pick up first downs
- 21:25Speaker 5: like that.
- 21:25Speaker 2: It's money. I mean it's a tough deal.
- 21:28Speaker 1: Forty three rushing yards to go with all those passing yards.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Today he refused to slide. I'd like to see him
- 21:33Speaker 1: protect himself a little bit more, but man, was he good.
- 21:38Speaker 2: He was. I mean, he just he sees the whole
- 21:41Speaker 2: field so clearly, so quickly. It really is. It's a
- 21:45Speaker 2: joy to watch. The guy performed his craft.
- 21:49Speaker 5: You know, he does it at such a high level,
- 21:51Speaker 5: and his teammates respond, you know, to it such a
- 21:54Speaker 5: such a big way as well.
- 21:55Speaker 2: I mean red zone.
- 21:57Speaker 5: Five times in the red zone, score four touchdowns, convert
- 22:00Speaker 5: eighty percent of the time. That was going to win
- 22:02Speaker 5: you games. Had the turnover unfortunately the other opportunity, but
- 22:06Speaker 5: pretty darn good in.
- 22:07Speaker 2: The red zone.
- 22:08Speaker 1: Eighty seven rushing yards for Joe Mixon plus twenty three
- 22:11Speaker 1: receiving yards, so he had more than one hundred yards
- 22:13Speaker 1: of offense. That's another missing piece that hasn't been there
- 22:17Speaker 1: to that extent, and.
- 22:19Speaker 5: An efficiency was there. He averaged over five yards of carry.
- 22:21Speaker 5: It wasn't like he busted one for fifty and then
- 22:24Speaker 5: you know the other fifteen carries didn't do anything.
- 22:27Speaker 2: Was pretty consistent in terms of hit a lot of
- 22:30Speaker 2: five to you know, twelve.
- 22:31Speaker 5: Yard carries that were very, very important and significant down
- 22:36Speaker 5: and when the Bengals were killing it on first down,
- 22:39Speaker 5: like they were a lot of his plays, his runs
- 22:41Speaker 5: and just catches out of the backfield screens and I
- 22:44Speaker 5: mean they were all huge in that first down production.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Big game for Jamar Chase with ten catches for one
- 22:48Speaker 1: hundred yards, but Joe Burrow used all the weapons today.
- 22:52Speaker 1: I mean IRV Smith unfortunately fumbled at the five yard line,
- 22:55Speaker 1: but he got a lot of guys involved. And again
- 22:58Speaker 1: that's why they were seventh to the NFL in scoring
- 23:01Speaker 1: last year. It's because they didn't rely too heavily on
- 23:03Speaker 1: Jamar Chase, no question.
- 23:05Speaker 5: I mean, you know, Jamar is going to attract a
- 23:07Speaker 5: lot of attention, but it's going to create opportunities for others,
- 23:10Speaker 5: There's no doubt about it. And T Higgins starting to
- 23:13Speaker 5: round back into form a little bit. You know he
- 23:15Speaker 5: made some plays down the field. And the good thing,
- 23:18Speaker 5: like we always talk about and see out of these receivers,
- 23:21Speaker 5: they block for each other. You know, when there's a
- 23:23Speaker 5: receiver screen, the one that's enjoying receiving the football gets
- 23:27Speaker 5: the benefit of all out efforts from the other two blocking.
- 23:30Speaker 5: And that's that's a good thing to see. I mean,
- 23:32Speaker 5: those guys play at such a high level. They compliment
- 23:35Speaker 5: each other so well on and off the football field.
- 23:38Speaker 5: That's a special brout.
- 23:39Speaker 1: You played, so you wudn't know how this stuff works.
- 23:42Speaker 1: The forty nine Ers linebacker duo is generally touted is
- 23:46Speaker 1: the best in the league. Logan Wilson and Jermaine Pratt
- 23:49Speaker 1: both came up with huge interceptions today. How much do
- 23:52Speaker 1: you think it means to those two guys to do
- 23:55Speaker 1: what they did on the same field as those other
- 23:57Speaker 1: two linebackers.
- 23:58Speaker 2: I think a lot, dam I really do.
- 24:00Speaker 5: I mean, I think they've got a lot of respect
- 24:02Speaker 5: for those two linebackers. Warner in Greenlaw are both great players.
- 24:08Speaker 5: But I do think that in Lou Aromo's system, Logan
- 24:11Speaker 5: Wilson and Jermaine Pratt was hugely important. And I don't
- 24:16Speaker 5: think I don't think lou Anroumo would trade him for anybody.
- 24:19Speaker 5: And he feels, you know that that they complete his
- 24:24Speaker 5: defense and and they really respect him and they respect
- 24:28Speaker 5: their teammates, and they got they got a great duo,
- 24:31Speaker 5: a great cane, and those two guys feed off each other,
- 24:33Speaker 5: and it's just a good, a good chemistry, a good
- 24:36Speaker 5: a good dynamic all the way through that defense.
- 24:39Speaker 1: So the Bengals have won three in a row and
- 24:41Speaker 1: four out of five, but there's a little bit of
- 24:43Speaker 1: an asterisk before today because the Rams aren't very good.
- 24:46Speaker 1: The Cardinals only have one win. In Seattle game the
- 24:50Speaker 1: offense completely, you know, turned off the faucet and the
- 24:53Speaker 1: defense had to bail them out. Is this win different
- 24:56Speaker 1: to the players and coaches?
- 24:58Speaker 5: I think so because I hadn't lost in eleven games. Here,
- 25:03Speaker 5: it's the quarterback fort he hadn't lost in eight starts here,
- 25:06Speaker 5: he's eight to zero. So this is a very tough
- 25:09Speaker 5: place to play. Croud noise is a factor. They never
- 25:12Speaker 5: trailed and they end up winning the game by fourteen points.
- 25:15Speaker 5: So I think it's a huge statement that they made,
- 25:18Speaker 5: and I think this is the game.
- 25:21Speaker 2: It's going to be a little bit of a springboard
- 25:22Speaker 2: form or natter starts stacking some winnings.
- 25:25Speaker 1: Let's get on the plane and go home.
- 25:27Speaker 2: I hear that I'm gonna gard with some hot salt
- 25:29Speaker 2: water when they get there.
- 25:31Speaker 1: Hudos to Lap for playing hurt. We look forward to
- 25:34Speaker 1: having him back at full strength on Sunday night. Now
- 25:38Speaker 1: time for this week's fun fact segment, where you get
- 25:41Speaker 1: to know the person under the pads. Time for some
- 25:45Speaker 1: fun facts with punter Brad Robbins. Let's start with the stash.
- 25:50Speaker 1: Why do you, at age twenty four go with kind
- 25:53Speaker 1: of the old prospectors mustache?
- 25:56Speaker 8: You know, A long story short. I feel like the
- 25:57Speaker 8: attention to detail is very high. It's a constant reminder
- 26:01Speaker 8: to always have a touch into detail, especially as a
- 26:04Speaker 8: specialist in my line of work. You know, having that
- 26:08Speaker 8: attention to detail is huge for the position.
- 26:11Speaker 1: You also have a shaved head. Did you start losing
- 26:15Speaker 1: your hair at some point or is this strictly voluntary.
- 26:18Speaker 8: I wanted to make it to twenty one years old
- 26:22Speaker 8: and have my first beverage with hair, but I was
- 26:25Speaker 8: losing my hair around like eighteen nineteen getting the parking
- 26:28Speaker 8: spots up there, so I decided as soon as I
- 26:31Speaker 8: turned twenty one, talk to our snappers, cheese Mini's with
- 26:35Speaker 8: the commanders right now. And I texted him late at night.
- 26:38Speaker 8: I was like, Hey, we're going to shave my head tomorrow.
- 26:40Speaker 1: I haven't had a bad hair day in thirty years.
- 26:42Speaker 8: Yeah, that's what I'm saying. And you save money on
- 26:45Speaker 8: you know, haircuts every year, and you spend about like
- 26:47Speaker 8: forty bucks on razors a year.
- 26:49Speaker 1: In your set, we're chatting with Brad Robbins. You're from
- 26:52Speaker 1: the Columbus area.
- 26:54Speaker 2: Correct.
- 26:54Speaker 1: Your father and grandfather were Bengals fans, right.
- 26:58Speaker 8: That's right, that's right. Yeah, from what I remember, my
- 27:01Speaker 8: dad told me that my granddad used to take him
- 27:04Speaker 8: down here to camps at some point. But yeah, they're
- 27:08Speaker 8: huge Bengals fans.
- 27:09Speaker 1: Let's talk about your athletic career. You lettered in football, basketball, baseball,
- 27:15Speaker 1: and soccer in high school. Were you close to playing
- 27:18Speaker 1: baseball in college?
- 27:21Speaker 8: Yeah, definitely. I thought that was gonna be my long
- 27:24Speaker 8: term sport growing up. I wanted to play in the MLB,
- 27:28Speaker 8: and originally I was committed to University of Nevada Reno,
- 27:33Speaker 8: and I was going to play both when I originally
- 27:37Speaker 8: committed there, that was the idea. But yeah, some of
- 27:40Speaker 8: the stuff fell out of place and ended up at Michigan,
- 27:43Speaker 8: which was you know, couldn't have been better for me.
- 27:46Speaker 1: It all turned out well. During training camp, you ran
- 27:49Speaker 1: a couple of fake punts and you were scooting down
- 27:52Speaker 1: the sideline. How fast are you?
- 27:55Speaker 8: Yeah, I don't know. I don't like to brag or
- 27:58Speaker 8: talk about myself, but you know I'm more than you know,
- 28:02Speaker 8: more than a punter. Like to pride myself as an
- 28:04Speaker 8: athletic guy, and I'd be curious to see if we
- 28:08Speaker 8: timed a forty what it would be, but I believe
- 28:11Speaker 8: it would be pretty quick, like for sixish.
- 28:13Speaker 1: Did they ever let you try a fake punt at Michigan?
- 28:17Speaker 8: We were a little conservative by nature. We had one
- 28:21Speaker 8: fake punt that was called It was the last punt
- 28:22Speaker 8: of my career at Michigan against TCU, and the look
- 28:25Speaker 8: wasn't there. I ended up punting it down the field.
- 28:27Speaker 8: But as far as scripted fake punts, we had a
- 28:31Speaker 8: bunch on deck, but never ran any in a game.
- 28:34Speaker 1: We're chatting with Brad Robbins. You spent six years at Michigan,
- 28:37Speaker 1: including a season that you missed due to injury. What
- 28:39Speaker 1: was your favorite part about being a college student in
- 28:42Speaker 1: ann Arbor, I.
- 28:45Speaker 8: Would just say, really the atmosphere and the people. It's
- 28:50Speaker 8: very much a college town, and there is like a
- 28:53Speaker 8: sense of togetherness and belongingness when you're a member of
- 28:57Speaker 8: that community. And by the end of it, you know
- 29:00Speaker 8: you're there for six years. A lot of the professors
- 29:03Speaker 8: know who you are, and a lot of the people
- 29:04Speaker 8: know who you are, which is really fun. And I
- 29:08Speaker 8: managed to have really good relationships with my professors, who
- 29:11Speaker 8: you know, emailed me once I got the call to
- 29:13Speaker 8: come here. You can wish me congrats, but it's really
- 29:15Speaker 8: it's really cool to just get to know people of
- 29:19Speaker 8: all different you know, kind of walks of life and
- 29:22Speaker 8: different backgrounds, right, and have different expertise and different things.
- 29:26Speaker 8: You get to learn so much from so many different people,
- 29:29Speaker 8: and I figured that's that's probably one of my favorite
- 29:32Speaker 8: things from being there.
- 29:33Speaker 1: All right, you mentioned the call to come here. Let's
- 29:36Speaker 1: talk about the famous phone call when Zach Taylor called.
- 29:39Speaker 1: It sounded like you didn't really think it was him.
- 29:43Speaker 1: Did you have reason to believe you were being pranked?
- 29:46Speaker 8: Yeah? You know, being from Columbus, people typically like my
- 29:51Speaker 8: peers either went to Cincinnati, Ohio State or OU and
- 29:56Speaker 8: I had a decent amount of close friends that went
- 29:58Speaker 8: to Cincinnati and had my number, and you know, I
- 30:02Speaker 8: kind of at first had reason to believe, like, maybe
- 30:04Speaker 8: this was fake. But there was also the story of
- 30:08Speaker 8: like Moody, like my kicker, uh, he pranked his mom
- 30:12Speaker 8: and dad and faked a phone call, So that was
- 30:14Speaker 8: already in my head like, oh, you know, there might
- 30:17Speaker 8: be something fishy here. But by the end of it,
- 30:19Speaker 8: I was fairly confident that it was him. And then
- 30:23Speaker 8: I saw my name pop up on the screen and
- 30:24Speaker 8: I was like, ye okay, yeah for sure.
- 30:26Speaker 1: So for the friends who were candidates to potentially prank you,
- 30:30Speaker 1: did they find it amusing when they watched the video?
- 30:34Speaker 8: I'm sure they did. I never directly talked to him
- 30:38Speaker 8: about it, but I'm sure they know who they are,
- 30:41Speaker 8: but yeah, definitely. And you know, they went to UC
- 30:44Speaker 8: came down here. They're huge Bengals fans, so you know
- 30:46Speaker 8: they're excited to come to games and stuff too.
- 30:49Speaker 1: All right, some wild card topics now with punter Brad Robbins.
- 30:53Speaker 1: Tell me one thing about you could be a hidden talent,
- 30:56Speaker 1: could be an unusual interest, something about you that very
- 31:01Speaker 1: few people.
- 31:02Speaker 5: Now.
- 31:03Speaker 8: I play guitar, that's one thing, and I'm currently like
- 31:08Speaker 8: studying music theory. Just pretty interesting. Picked it up. My
- 31:12Speaker 8: granddad who passed away, ended up giving me his guitar
- 31:15Speaker 8: and picked it up, started playing it. Had lessons when
- 31:18Speaker 8: I was a kid, but now it's more important to
- 31:19Speaker 8: me since I've had that guitar but learned steroid to
- 31:22Speaker 8: have them and which is like the typical thing when
- 31:26Speaker 8: you get a guitar, you're like, oh, I want to
- 31:27Speaker 8: play that, but really challenged myself and I'm now getting
- 31:31Speaker 8: the solo down to it too, which is pretty difficult.
- 31:34Speaker 8: So I'm learning to play it and it's entirety.
- 31:37Speaker 1: Is that your go to song if you're looking to
- 31:38Speaker 1: impress somebody.
- 31:40Speaker 8: I don't know, I like to I consider myself more
- 31:43Speaker 8: of a campfire guitarist right now, so just like pretty
- 31:46Speaker 8: decent add a decent amount of things. So when people
- 31:49Speaker 8: request stuff, I could easily pick it up and learn it.
- 31:53Speaker 8: But yeah, learning to play by ear, I feel like
- 31:55Speaker 8: that's that's something that I want to get better at,
- 31:58Speaker 8: in something that I've been learning.
- 32:00Speaker 1: On the flip side, give me something that you're terrible.
- 32:03Speaker 8: At well, So let's see, Evan and Darren have been
- 32:09Speaker 8: getting on me about when I'm shaving my head. I
- 32:12Speaker 8: miss one spot on the back of my head every
- 32:14Speaker 8: single time, So I'd say I'm pretty consistently bad at
- 32:19Speaker 8: getting that spot on the back of my head. But no,
- 32:22Speaker 8: that's a yeah, I'd say that's the thing that pops
- 32:25Speaker 8: up in my head.
- 32:27Speaker 1: All right. A lot of fans here in Ohio know
- 32:29Speaker 1: that when the Buckeyes beat Michigan, the players get pins
- 32:34Speaker 1: in the shape of gold pants. You won your last
- 32:37Speaker 1: two games in that rivalry. What do Michigan players get
- 32:41Speaker 1: when they beat Ohio State.
- 32:43Speaker 8: Yeah, they came up with these medallions. They're pretty cool,
- 32:50Speaker 8: but each of them had different kind of meetings on them.
- 32:53Speaker 8: I wish I should bring them in. I could bring
- 32:55Speaker 8: them in, but my idea, guys were coming up with
- 32:58Speaker 8: different ideas because there wasn't really anything got right there.
- 33:01Speaker 8: There was no background on it. My idea was their
- 33:05Speaker 8: defense is like the silver bullets, right, So I was
- 33:07Speaker 8: figuring we'd get like a little silver bulleted amulet, but
- 33:11Speaker 8: that didn't end up didn't end up happening, So we
- 33:14Speaker 8: got those little amulets. One says Team one forty three
- 33:17Speaker 8: and has like a helmet, one of them has a
- 33:19Speaker 8: sword and shovel, and all of them have different meanings
- 33:22Speaker 8: in their own ways.
- 33:24Speaker 1: That first win that you played in against Ohio State
- 33:27Speaker 1: ended a lengthy streak for the Wolverines. What was that moment?
- 33:30Speaker 8: Like, Yeah, it was pretty surreal. Couldn't have scripted it
- 33:34Speaker 8: any better, really, Like the weather was awesome. It was snowing,
- 33:37Speaker 8: you know, sideways, windy as heck, And you know, I
- 33:42Speaker 8: think just as a team, we played really solid and
- 33:45Speaker 8: actually you know, believed in each other and trusted each
- 33:48Speaker 8: other to do their jobs right or our jobs, so
- 33:52Speaker 8: there's really no doubt in our minds, like as long
- 33:54Speaker 8: as you do your job, like the rest will take
- 33:56Speaker 8: care of itself. It will all fall into place. So
- 34:00Speaker 8: my memory of that or the end of that game
- 34:02Speaker 8: is looking at Cayden Kolosari's one of my you know,
- 34:05Speaker 8: good friends, and he's a special teams guys. Me and
- 34:07Speaker 8: him looking at each other as soon as the clock's
- 34:09Speaker 8: wunning down and celebrating pretty hard, and then the field
- 34:12Speaker 8: Russian is uh, it was pretty cool. That was the
- 34:15Speaker 8: first time I had experienced that. But yeah, you know,
- 34:18Speaker 8: I had to put my helmet on, you have your
- 34:20Speaker 8: helmet off, tons of people smack in your head and stuff.
- 34:23Speaker 8: So no, it was good. I wish I could live
- 34:26Speaker 8: that moment again, but it's a really good memory.
- 34:30Speaker 1: All right. Final question, This one's a little bit deep.
- 34:33Speaker 1: If you could meet anybody in history living or deceased,
- 34:38Speaker 1: could be an athlete, entertainer, statesman, whoever it might be,
- 34:43Speaker 1: Who would that person be?
- 34:46Speaker 8: I guess the first person I would want to meet
- 34:50Speaker 8: right now, who's like living, guy by the name of
- 34:54Speaker 8: Justin Vernon, lead singer of Bonnie Fair, super really cool musician,
- 35:02Speaker 8: has developed, you know, with like his music engineer, a
- 35:05Speaker 8: couple different things that you know people are using, even
- 35:07Speaker 8: guys like Kanye West are using, which is really cool
- 35:11Speaker 8: for somebody who's passed away, probably like a famous poet
- 35:16Speaker 8: of some kind, just to kind of see what time
- 35:20Speaker 8: was like back in the day and why they wrote
- 35:22Speaker 8: what they wrote, because now it's all up to interpretation.
- 35:25Speaker 8: There's no direct contact, right, So I feel like that
- 35:29Speaker 8: would be pretty sweet. But yeah, I guess those would
- 35:31Speaker 8: be like two people that I'd want to meet.
- 35:33Speaker 1: A very eclectic combo rad Appreciate your time, best of
- 35:39Speaker 1: luck this season. Great to have you in Cincinnati.
- 35:40Speaker 8: Yeah, thank you, thanks for having me.
