- 0:00Speaker 1: Is the Patriots Training Camp Cast.
- 0:06Speaker 2: The Patriots Training Camp Cast is your source for all
- 0:08Speaker 2: the news from Patriots Training Camp.
- 0:10Speaker 1: Well, I do still watch the news. Practice is over,
- 0:13Speaker 1: but the writers of Patriots dot com have you covered?
- 0:16Speaker 3: What did I miss yesterday?
- 0:17Speaker 1: Now Here to review today's practice? The writers of Patriots dot.
- 0:20Speaker 3: Com Day six in the books here in Foxboro. A
- 0:26Speaker 3: little bit of a slower pace today, Mike. You so,
- 0:29Speaker 3: Paul Perla with you. We're not at a slower pace, Mike.
- 0:31Speaker 3: But I thought the team, after a pretty physical practice
- 0:35Speaker 3: on Monday, sort of dialed it back. They were back
- 0:37Speaker 3: in shells today. I would say the first half of
- 0:40Speaker 3: the practice was a little bit of a slower tempo,
- 0:42Speaker 3: looked like some instructions and walked through, and then I
- 0:45Speaker 3: thought they picked it up toward the end. I thought
- 0:47Speaker 3: the intensity on both sides sort of got back. Just
- 0:51Speaker 3: we'll start off with overall impressions, Michael.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Yeah, over impressions, I thought, you know, kind of more
- 0:55Speaker 2: of the same, I guess, is what I would say.
- 0:57Speaker 2: An inconsistent day for the offense. You know, had one
- 1:01Speaker 2: nice contested throat to Devonte Parker up the sideline.
- 1:04Speaker 1: You've seen that a lot.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Another one to Hunter Henry that was actually pretty nice,
- 1:08Speaker 2: but some clunkiness kind of remained.
- 1:10Speaker 1: A lot of check down.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Seem like a lot of work on screens today, so
- 1:12Speaker 2: maybe that was definitely was part of it. A lot
- 1:15Speaker 2: of that, a lot of those kind of plays, So,
- 1:17Speaker 2: you know, nice day for the defense, though. I thought
- 1:19Speaker 2: they got their hands on some balls. Mac Wilson making
- 1:22Speaker 2: a nice play there during practice, But like you said,
- 1:25Speaker 2: a little bit of a dial back version, some eleven
- 1:27Speaker 2: on eleven work, a little bit of red zone, but
- 1:29Speaker 2: otherwise hoping we get you know, back to Pats tomorrow,
- 1:32Speaker 2: maybe pick up the intensity.
- 1:33Speaker 3: Yeah, I would agree with that, and I did. I
- 1:35Speaker 3: thought mac Wilson was one of the standouts defensively, and
- 1:38Speaker 3: I think that kind of speaks to it. I think
- 1:40Speaker 3: I'm probably gonna write about this a little bit after
- 1:43Speaker 3: our show. Is just sort of the versatility along that backside.
- 1:47Speaker 3: I listened to Adrian Phillips talk after practice and he
- 1:49Speaker 3: talked about all the things the offense can do with
- 1:52Speaker 3: the motions and the different personnel groupings and the multiple
- 1:56Speaker 3: receiver sets and they can really dial it up. And
- 1:59Speaker 3: I think that's really true of the defense specifically on
- 2:02Speaker 3: the backside with all of those safeties, linebackers, and some
- 2:05Speaker 3: of them like guys like Wilson and Mapu a little
- 2:08Speaker 3: bit of both. So I did think Wilson stood out
- 2:12Speaker 3: with those things. We should do a little bookkeeping here.
- 2:15Speaker 3: We talked about the first padded practice on Monday. It
- 2:19Speaker 3: took its toll. We talked a little bit about that
- 2:22Speaker 3: yesterday with Bill Belichick talking to the whole team sort
- 2:25Speaker 3: of about practice tempo. Not surprisingly, some of those guys
- 2:29Speaker 3: that we didn't see finished practice yesterday were not out
- 2:32Speaker 3: there today. I did not spot Jalen Hurd, Brad Hawkins,
- 2:37Speaker 3: terres Hall chasing Hines and of course Time Montgomery for
- 2:42Speaker 3: now what the fourth day in a row. Also a
- 2:45Speaker 3: lot of guys that were out there really weren't taking part.
- 2:49Speaker 3: Trent Brown, Scotti, Washington, Cole Strange was on the field
- 2:55Speaker 3: but did not take part in anything. So I do
- 2:59Speaker 3: think that for padded practice took a toll a little bit. Yeah,
- 3:02Speaker 3: you have physicality.
- 3:03Speaker 2: It's unfortunate, and I mean i've you know, not that
- 3:05Speaker 2: we've seen really much a jail and hurt other than
- 3:07Speaker 2: the one touchdown catch the other day. But I said
- 3:09Speaker 2: I think I said it on the light show, like
- 3:10Speaker 2: he just intreaused me a little bit. He's got good size,
- 3:12Speaker 2: and it's just disappointing because this is a guy that
- 3:14Speaker 2: always had the measurables but just couldn't stay healthy. And
- 3:17Speaker 2: you know, it's almost kind of the same thing with
- 3:19Speaker 2: Montgomery with two guys that maybe you had some hopes for.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Clearly Montgomery's, you know, your hopes for him are higher
- 3:25Speaker 2: than what they were for heard, but a little bit
- 3:27Speaker 2: of a disappointment there for him.
- 3:29Speaker 1: I did see Brad Hawkins kind of he was well.
- 3:31Speaker 3: He came back up from the field. They went down
- 3:33Speaker 3: to the lower field. A lot of these guys. I
- 3:36Speaker 3: did not see Herd at all. I did not either,
- 3:38Speaker 3: but I saw at least at some point I think
- 3:41Speaker 3: everybody else, maybe not Terres's Hall either, but I don't
- 3:44Speaker 3: think I did see Chasing Hines come back from the
- 3:47Speaker 3: lower fields. Trent Brown came out not in uniform. He
- 3:51Speaker 3: has his uniform jersey, but no helmet.
- 3:54Speaker 1: What's going on there?
- 3:55Speaker 3: Yeah, it's something, you know, And it's another thing that
- 3:58Speaker 3: Phillips was asked about someone you know, Jude On looks
- 4:01Speaker 3: like he's on this program, and Stevenson might be on that,
- 4:03Speaker 3: and he's just like, you know, that's that's their their
- 4:06Speaker 3: they deal with Bill. And you know, someone said you
- 4:09Speaker 3: might call it load management. He goes, I don't know
- 4:11Speaker 3: what you'd call it, but I'm not on any of that.
- 4:13Speaker 3: So yeah, I think it is something to sort of
- 4:15Speaker 3: keep an eye on. I mean, I would just highlight too.
- 4:17Speaker 2: And and I mean remondra Stevenson looked like, you know, an
- 4:19Speaker 2: active participant today. He didn't really see any padded action yesterday.
- 4:22Speaker 2: He put they put him down on the field too.
- 4:24Speaker 2: So I mean one part of it for me is
- 4:26Speaker 2: just jude On and Remandre and Trump Brown are at
- 4:29Speaker 2: three positions where they really don't have any depth. I mean,
- 4:31Speaker 2: it is a drop off after those guys. You know,
- 4:34Speaker 2: no disrespect to josh Uja, but those are three key
- 4:37Speaker 2: guys that, especially the tackle position. I mean right now,
- 4:39Speaker 2: it just seems like they're kind of scrambling along the
- 4:41Speaker 2: offensive line trying to figure out what can happen. I mean,
- 4:44Speaker 2: we're six practices in Paul and we've got you know,
- 4:46Speaker 2: Riley Reef is playing left tackle.
- 4:47Speaker 1: It's and Connor mcgermi's playing right right tackle, and and
- 4:50Speaker 1: who's their other tackle? After that? I don't, Andrew Stuber,
- 4:53Speaker 1: I guess so.
- 4:53Speaker 2: I mean it's just it's, uh, I think of all
- 4:55Speaker 2: the things that have been concerning, and we could talk
- 4:57Speaker 2: about inconsistency on offense and you know, they really haven't
- 4:59Speaker 2: been able to push ball down the field at all,
- 5:02Speaker 2: just the tackle and the overall offensive line depth. Now
- 5:04Speaker 2: with cold strange heard, it's a big concern this soon.
- 5:07Speaker 3: I couldn't agree more about your point about depth because
- 5:11Speaker 3: you certainly see and you know, someone would say, well,
- 5:15Speaker 3: I mean they were missing these guys yesterday and obviously
- 5:19Speaker 3: the performance was well yeah, and what happens if you're
- 5:22Speaker 3: missing those guys and it's not like a ton of
- 5:24Speaker 3: guys are out, but you see at the spots that
- 5:27Speaker 3: you talked about, edge, rusher, running back, offensive line, specifically tackle,
- 5:36Speaker 3: there's not a lot behind the guys that you're relying on.
- 5:39Speaker 3: So you don't have to get ten, twelve, fifteen guys
- 5:42Speaker 3: on IR to be in trouble. You can get the
- 5:44Speaker 3: wrong three and it could really, you know, sort of
- 5:47Speaker 3: disrupt the Apple card a little bit. But I did
- 5:49Speaker 3: think that the practice tempo toward the end was a
- 5:52Speaker 3: little bit higher. I agree with your assessment Mike. I
- 5:54Speaker 3: thought the defense again continues to sort of you know,
- 5:57Speaker 3: even the plays. I thought that the play that you
- 5:59Speaker 3: talked about with Parker very well defended by Gonzales. You know,
- 6:03Speaker 3: good catch by good catch by Parker. That's that's what
- 6:05Speaker 3: he's known for. He goes up and makes those plays
- 6:08Speaker 3: from time to time. And I continue to think that
- 6:11Speaker 3: the best player on offense for the Patriots throughout campus
- 6:15Speaker 3: hunter him. I think he's the guy who shows up
- 6:18Speaker 3: most often, you know, and I think they're still searching.
- 6:21Speaker 3: I think Mac had a couple today that he got
- 6:24Speaker 3: confused on. Certainly the one that almost got picked off.
- 6:28Speaker 1: That one is that Marcus Jones. Marcus Jones came off
- 6:33Speaker 1: of his guy.
- 6:34Speaker 3: I thought he really confused from It was a seven
- 6:37Speaker 3: on seven from up above.
- 6:39Speaker 2: Two saw it and it was like, I mean, I
- 6:40Speaker 2: said it out loud. I'm like Juju, like he had
- 6:43Speaker 2: him and he missed him, and you know, it allowed
- 6:45Speaker 2: Marcus Jones able to close. There was also you know,
- 6:47Speaker 2: a deep shot to Kendrick Bourne which wasn't complete.
- 6:49Speaker 1: It was a pretty ball. I mean, I just liked
- 6:51Speaker 1: at least he was, you know, kind of trying to
- 6:52Speaker 1: push it down the field, and I'll keep.
- 6:54Speaker 3: Going credit you know, and I've been critical of Marcus Jones.
- 6:57Speaker 3: That's what I see.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Marcus Jones is a step or two behind.
- 7:00Speaker 3: But Bourne had him beat and you know, I mean
- 7:02Speaker 3: Mac overthrew him.
- 7:03Speaker 1: It happens.
- 7:04Speaker 3: Nice to see them taking some shots today. Yeah, any
- 7:07Speaker 3: any last thoughts before we wrap this one up.
- 7:09Speaker 1: No, that's it. I'd like to get you know, like
- 7:10Speaker 1: I said, I think they need to get healthy. I mean,
- 7:12Speaker 1: I don't know what's up with Calvin Anderson.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Bill was asked about him, but I just I think,
- 7:15Speaker 2: you know, not that he's the savior, but you just
- 7:17Speaker 2: you need some you need some other depth.
- 7:19Speaker 1: And I really I shudder to think what happens.
- 7:22Speaker 2: If you got to go into the season with with
- 7:23Speaker 2: Riley Reef at left tackle and Connor McDermott right tackle.
- 7:26Speaker 1: It's just it's it's it's a little bit scary. I agree.
- 7:29Speaker 3: I agree. So the depth is an issue we will
- 7:31Speaker 3: continue to monitor as these days go on. But like
- 7:34Speaker 3: like Bill says, with Stack in the days, you know,
- 7:36Speaker 3: day six in the books, We'll be back tomorrow.
