- 0:03SPEAKER_00: Hello everyone, welcome back to the Astrology for Beginners podcast.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: I'm your host, Stephanie Kate Boucher, and I am so happy to have you here.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: This is the podcast for you if you have ever wanted to learn how to read a natal
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: chart or were kind of interested in astrology and wished that you understood more
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: about it but didn't know where to begin or it seemed too complicated and you didn't
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: have the time or the resources to invest in learning it.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: My goal is to break things down for you episode by episode in the most simplified
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: way that I can so that you can learn to speak the language of the stars.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: Thank you for learning astrology with me.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Welcome astrology friends.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: I am so excited about today's episode because we are going to talk about one of my
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: favorite things in astrology and that is the moon and more specifically the lunar
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: cycle and more specifically than that how the phase of the lunar cycle that the
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: moon was in when you were born and
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: impacts your life, your personality, and what it says about this unique journey that you are on.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: Did you know that it's not just your moon sign or the house that the moon is in in
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: your chart that says something about you?
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: There are other important pieces of information about your natal moon too,
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: and the lunar phase is one of them.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: Now, many of you may already know that there is such a thing as a lunar cycle.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: A lunar cycle refers to the recurring phases of the moon as it orbits around the Earth.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: It takes about 29.5 days for the moon to make an entire revolution around the Earth.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: It's the fastest moving planet.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: And yes, I know it's not technically a planet.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: But during that time,
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: though,
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: during one cycle,
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: the moon moves through all 12 zodiac signs and it goes through eight distinct lunar phases.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: Each phase is measured by how much of the moon is illuminated,
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: or in other words,
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: how much of it we can see.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: And that's determined by where it is in the sky in relation to the sun,
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: because the sun is what lights up the moon.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: So at the new moon, there is no illumination because the moon is between the earth and the sun.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: So the side of the moon that's facing us isn't getting any of the sun's rays.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: And so it goes dark, or at least it looks dark to us.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: On a natal chart or any type of astrology chart, a new moon is going to be a sun-moon conjunction.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: And a full moon occurs when the Earth is between the sun and the moon,
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: with the entire face of the moon being illuminated.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: That in a chart is going to show up as a sun-moon opposition.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: And of course,
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: there are the other six phases that occur on either side of these two events every
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: single month.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: If this confuses you from a technical standpoint,
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: I suggest that you Google lunar phases and you'll see any number of charts pop up
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: that give you a visual of how this works.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: Now,
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: a lot of you who are familiar with the lunar cycle or the phases of the moon as it
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: relates to astrology may be thinking of the lunar cycle in terms of manifestation
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: or goal setting and things like that.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: I do too.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: In fact,
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: that's exactly what my moon circle on Substack is designed to help people do,
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: or it was before I temporarily paused it.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: It will be back, though.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: The moon circle will be back, new and improved.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: And that's a really incredible way to apply astrology and make it work for you in everyday life.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: That's not exactly what we're going to be talking about today, though.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: Today, we're going to go big picture and talk about what it means in your natal chart.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: We were all born with the moon being in a particular phase, and that means something for us.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: Now,
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: your lunar phase doesn't typically show up in your standard natal chart,
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: but you can easily find out that information through any number of online moon
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: phase calculators.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: In fact, you can Google that exact phrase.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: Or you can go to astro-seek.com and then go to the tab that says Free Horoscopes.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: And then on the menu there, you'll click where it says Sun, Moon, Ascendant, Portrait.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: And then finally, scroll down just a bit and click on where it says Moon Phase and Sign Calculator.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: Or again,
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: you could just do a search and take the shortcut and then put in your birthday and
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: your time and your location and you'll get your phase.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: You will need the most accurate birth time possible because the moon moves very
- 5:39SPEAKER_00: quickly and it can easily change phases throughout the course of a day.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: Okay, assuming you have that, we can move on.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: And I'm going to shift gears for just a minute before we start talking about each phase.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: With this topic of lunar phases and,
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: the lunar cycle and the phase that the moon was in when you were born and how that
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: helps shape you among the many other things in your chart that help shape you
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: because this is just one of them.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: It helps or it can help to take a step back for a minute and just talk about the bigger picture.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: And by the bigger picture, I mean more than just this life, this lifetime that you're having right now.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: You might have deduced from other episodes and through other things I've said on
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: this show that I talk about reincarnation sometimes,
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: or I at least refer to the idea of it.
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: I personally don't believe that we come here just once.
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: I believe that we are here many,
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: many,
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: many times to do many,
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: many different things and experience all of the things and the different lessons
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: that humanity has to offer us.
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: And in fact, many astrologers and astrology lovers do tend to talk about things in these terms.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: Not all of them, but quite a lot of them.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: You certainly don't have to.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: We all believe what we believe, and it's all okay, at least for me.
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: And if you don't like this idea,
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: then you can just take all of the traits and the personality types that I'm about
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: to talk about and just apply them to yourself right here,
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: right now.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: No big deal.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: But for those who want to bear with me for a moment on this,
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: there are things in your chart,
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: in all of our charts that tell us more about what we were doing before,
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: what we're here to do now,
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: and where we're hoping to go.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: And there are all kinds of things in your chart that can tell these types of stories,
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: like your ascendant sign,
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: your nodal axis,
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: the north and south node,
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: your sun,
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: your moon sign,
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: the degrees that all of your planets are in,
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: and all kinds of things.
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: And the lunar phase, or the phase the moon was in when you were born, can be seen as one of those things.
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: If you want to consider that,
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: that we're here a whole bunch of times,
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: then it could stand to reason that when we decide to take on a certain lesson or a
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: set of lessons,
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: that you wouldn't simply aim to do it in one lifetime.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: Like if you've never had a strong leadership lifetime,
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: for example,
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: and you want to go learn about that and figure out,
- 8:31SPEAKER_00: what makes a good leader and a bad leader,
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: and how to inspire people and how to get people to work together.
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: And you want to learn how to get really good at the whole thing.
- 8:43SPEAKER_00: You're probably not going to be able to figure all of that out in a measly 80 years or so.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: And really a lot less because the first couple of decades of your life,
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: you're going to be very young and not in leadership positions.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: And at the end, you may be very old and that type of thing.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: And you might want to try doing it in lots of different settings and in different
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: scenarios and in different types of bodies with different backgrounds and
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: upbringings and different skill sets and really just hone all of the ways you can
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: do it and examine all of the different ways that leadership can look,
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: that type of thing.
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: This is just one example.
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: Maybe you want to learn instead about creativity or relationships or parenting or
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: healing or mentoring or any infinite number of things that humans do.
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: So you're going to take on some endeavor from time to time,
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: some endeavor like this,
- 9:43SPEAKER_00: knowing that you'll likely have to develop it over a long,
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: long period of time.
- 9:49SPEAKER_00: And if you can identify the types of things that you're here to do right now or
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: trying to learn about right now,
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: then one of the things that the lunar cycle can show you is where it is in that
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: process that you currently are.
- 10:05SPEAKER_00: how far into that particular set of lessons are you?
- 10:09SPEAKER_00: It's a relatively small piece of information,
- 10:13SPEAKER_00: but it kind of helps define the overall mood of your life and how you look at your
- 10:19SPEAKER_00: life and how you respond to it,
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: how you're going to tackle the vision that you have for your life.
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: There's really so much you can learn about yourself from your natal moon.
- 10:32SPEAKER_00: And of course, there's the sign and the house and the aspects it makes with other planets.
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: But there's really even much more.
- 10:40SPEAKER_00: And in the future,
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: we'll talk even more about the information available to you by unpacking your natal moon.
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: Today, we'll just do this, though.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: Now, the first lunar phase, this is the start of a new lunar cycle, is the new moon phase.
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: The new moon phase occurs when the sun and the moon are conjunct.
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: So if you think of the conjunction or the place where the sun is as being,
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 11:09SPEAKER_00: zero degrees of the lunar cycle,
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: then
- 11:12SPEAKER_00: The new moon occurs from the moon being about zero degrees all the way until it
- 11:18SPEAKER_00: gets about,
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 11:20SPEAKER_00: 44 or 45 degrees away from the sun.
- 11:25SPEAKER_00: So if you were born under a new moon,
- 11:29SPEAKER_00: and you'll notice it because you'll,
- 11:31SPEAKER_00: like I said,
- 11:31SPEAKER_00: you'll have a sun moon conjunction in your chart.
- 11:35SPEAKER_00: you are initiating something new in this lifetime.
- 11:41SPEAKER_00: You're taking on a new lesson that you haven't looked at to a great extent before,
- 11:47SPEAKER_00: or that you haven't looked at in a particular way before or through a certain lens before.
- 11:54SPEAKER_00: And if you want to know what that set of lessons is,
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: then you can look at your needle chart in its entirety for clues.
- 12:03SPEAKER_00: Those clues will likely show up all over the place.
- 12:06SPEAKER_00: But a new moon is always about embarking on something new.
- 12:11SPEAKER_00: It's a fresh start, a new project, a new set of challenges that you've decided to take on.
- 12:19SPEAKER_00: This is often going to be a person who is really a visionary and dreaming up new
- 12:27SPEAKER_00: ways of doing things or new ways of being.
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: There can be a powerful imagination for people born under this lunar phase,
- 12:39SPEAKER_00: and they tend to have lots of ideas.
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: As well as optimism, it can really feel like the sky is the limit for a person born under a new moon.
- 12:51SPEAKER_00: It's just like any of us, right?
- 12:53SPEAKER_00: Any person when we're starting something new and exciting, there's lots of hopefulness.
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: Otherwise, we wouldn't want to do it, right?
- 13:02SPEAKER_00: But whenever you're at the beginning of something,
- 13:07SPEAKER_00: you'll also have to contend with a lot of unknowns and a lot of newness.
- 13:12SPEAKER_00: And that can lead to some trepidation or nervousness or even anxiety.
- 13:18SPEAKER_00: I have heard it said that it's not uncommon for people born under a new moon to be dealing with anxiety.
- 13:27SPEAKER_00: And I have, in fact, seen it in some charts.
- 13:31SPEAKER_00: Now,
- 13:31SPEAKER_00: if you think about this logically or take it at face value,
- 13:36SPEAKER_00: the new moon is something,
- 13:38SPEAKER_00: as I said,
- 13:38SPEAKER_00: that you cannot see.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: The moon is not illuminated during this phase.
- 13:43SPEAKER_00: The sky is dark.
- 13:45SPEAKER_00: And so when you have this lunar phase as part of your chart,
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: this can be seen as symbolic of the idea that because you're starting something new,
- 13:56SPEAKER_00: you don't really have a guiding light yet.
- 13:58SPEAKER_00: You don't have a roadmap yet.
- 14:01SPEAKER_00: You're building something, but you don't know what things are going to look like.
- 14:07SPEAKER_00: You're hopeful,
- 14:09SPEAKER_00: but you don't know what the end result is actually going to be because it's a new endeavor.
- 14:15SPEAKER_00: You're just feeling your way around in the dark.
- 14:18SPEAKER_00: And so, you know, and feeling is the key word here.
- 14:21SPEAKER_00: These people tend to use their intuition a lot to guide them toward the next step
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: and the next step and the next step.
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: These are often people who you'll hear say that they followed their gut or they
- 14:35SPEAKER_00: followed their instincts because that might be their best chance of moving forward
- 14:40SPEAKER_00: without having a lot of experience behind them.
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: So there's a lot of trying things to see what's going to work or not and sort of
- 14:50SPEAKER_00: working things out through trial and error and letting that influence your overall direction,
- 14:57SPEAKER_00: right,
- 14:57SPEAKER_00: this trial and error.
- 15:00SPEAKER_00: So again,
- 15:01SPEAKER_00: this is going to be someone who needs to experiment with a lot of different things
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: in life,
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: who's probably going to be kind of adventurous.
- 15:11SPEAKER_00: They will like to learn through experience and through trying things and then
- 15:19SPEAKER_00: settle into themselves more with time and age.
- 15:21SPEAKER_00: This can be a hard phase.
- 15:23SPEAKER_00: It's not easy to not know where you're going, quite know where you're going, right?
- 15:28SPEAKER_00: Sometimes people may feel impatient as they find their way, or they may get a little frustrated.
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: Second phase of the lunar cycle is the waxing crescent phase.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: And waxing, by the way, just means that the moon is building up.
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: to being full.
- 15:46SPEAKER_00: It's building up towards full illumination.
- 15:49SPEAKER_00: Waning is the other half of the cycle when you're losing light rather than gaining it.
- 15:55SPEAKER_00: So the second phase is the waxing crescent phase.
- 15:59SPEAKER_00: This phase occurs when the moon is from around 45 degrees away from the sun to
- 16:05SPEAKER_00: about 89 or 90 degrees from the sun.
- 16:12SPEAKER_00: And if you were born during this waxing crescent phase,
- 16:15SPEAKER_00: this part of the lunar cycle,
- 16:18SPEAKER_00: then you may tend to be a pretty productive person.
- 16:23SPEAKER_00: At this phase, the moon has started to become partly illuminated.
- 16:27SPEAKER_00: This is when you have that sliver, that little sliver of a moon.
- 16:31SPEAKER_00: And so with that illumination,
- 16:35SPEAKER_00: you're not feeling your way around solely on intuition and pure feeling anymore.
- 16:41SPEAKER_00: And you might be past the phase where you're experimenting with all kinds of different things.
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: you're probably a bit more certain about what the path forward is going to be,
- 16:54SPEAKER_00: or at least what you want it to be.
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: And so you may tend to be someone who is fairly focused in life and who can more
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: easily hone in on a specific goal or a set of goals and objectives.
- 17:09SPEAKER_00: These people can also be rather independent.
- 17:15SPEAKER_00: They're very curious about the world.
- 17:17SPEAKER_00: They can be a little more confident in their abilities.
- 17:20SPEAKER_00: And if they fail at something,
- 17:23SPEAKER_00: they're probably going to try again and get,
- 17:26SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 17:26SPEAKER_00: right back up without getting too down on themselves.
- 17:30SPEAKER_00: So they're often a lot less anxious as a result of all of that.
- 17:35SPEAKER_00: And they're also pretty resourceful.
- 17:38SPEAKER_00: People under the crescent moon phase are busy,
- 17:43SPEAKER_00: as most people who are born during the first half of the lunar cycle are.
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: So that's, again, new moon to full moon.
- 17:51SPEAKER_00: These are busy times designed to help people build upon things and create new structures.
- 17:57SPEAKER_00: So there's a lot of activity,
- 17:59SPEAKER_00: a lot of moving around,
- 18:01SPEAKER_00: a lot of communication and networking with people and that type of thing here.
- 18:06SPEAKER_00: This phase, it's kind of like a, almost like a Gemini energy.
- 18:10SPEAKER_00: In fact, it kind of reminds me a little bit of that.
- 18:14SPEAKER_00: Now, next we have the first quarter moon, the first quarter phase.
- 18:20SPEAKER_00: This occurs when the moon is 90 degrees to 134 degrees.
- 18:28SPEAKER_00: So if you look up your moon chart in the moon calculator and you see that your moon
- 18:32SPEAKER_00: is anywhere from 90 to 134 degrees,
- 18:33SPEAKER_00: it's considered a first quarter moon.
- 18:38SPEAKER_00: The first quarter moon can also be called a half moon.
- 18:41SPEAKER_00: A lot of people call it a half moon.
- 18:44SPEAKER_00: And this is when it looks like a half circle.
- 18:47SPEAKER_00: The right side of the moon will be lit up if you live in the northern hemisphere.
- 18:53SPEAKER_00: The left side will be lit up if you live in the southern hemisphere.
- 18:57SPEAKER_00: This is an extremely energetic and dynamic lunar phase, though not necessarily an easy one.
- 19:06SPEAKER_00: And people born under this phase tend to be extremely busy throughout their lives.
- 19:11SPEAKER_00: This one is really about having tenacity.
- 19:14SPEAKER_00: This phase is essentially when the sun and the moon are square.
- 19:18SPEAKER_00: It's the first square that takes place after the new moon and before the full moon.
- 19:24SPEAKER_00: If you listen to our episodes on planetary aspects,
- 19:28SPEAKER_00: you'll remember that squares are indicators of two planets that are in conflict
- 19:34SPEAKER_00: with one another.
- 19:35SPEAKER_00: These tend to be symbolic of circumstances or parts of ourselves that are in
- 19:41SPEAKER_00: conflict and create friction or cause challenges that we have to figure out how to
- 19:47SPEAKER_00: work with and overcome.
- 19:49SPEAKER_00: So with the sun and the moon each representing different parts of ourselves, right?
- 19:55SPEAKER_00: The sun is our ego identity and the moon is our emotional landscape or our emotional needs.
- 20:02SPEAKER_00: Having these be in a square aspect with one another means that we're kind of in
- 20:08SPEAKER_00: conflict with ourselves,
- 20:10SPEAKER_00: right?
- 20:10SPEAKER_00: our conscious identity and our emotional needs aren't necessarily aligned,
- 20:16SPEAKER_00: which creates an internal struggle,
- 20:19SPEAKER_00: which of course leads to external struggles out in life generally.
- 20:24SPEAKER_00: So for example,
- 20:25SPEAKER_00: Someone with a sun-moon square or a first quarter moon could be someone who
- 20:33SPEAKER_00: sometimes doesn't really know what they want in life.
- 20:36SPEAKER_00: Maybe they've been programmed by the culture or by their family early in life to
- 20:41SPEAKER_00: want a certain thing and have been taught,
- 20:44SPEAKER_00: Hey, this is the thing you should want because this is the thing that makes everyone happy.
- 20:49SPEAKER_00: This is the key to success.
- 20:51SPEAKER_00: But as it turns out, that thing may be quite different from what's actually in that person's true nature.
- 21:00SPEAKER_00: But they've been going along with their programming for so long that they don't
- 21:04SPEAKER_00: even know what they really want or what would actually make them happy anymore.
- 21:09SPEAKER_00: I think that happens to people a lot, actually.
- 21:13SPEAKER_00: Or...
- 21:14SPEAKER_00: Or this could be someone who does know what they want,
- 21:18SPEAKER_00: but for some reason they don't feel justified in having it,
- 21:22SPEAKER_00: or they feel like they can't have it,
- 21:25SPEAKER_00: or maybe they don't think they're deserving of it for some reason.
- 21:28SPEAKER_00: That can happen too.
- 21:31SPEAKER_00: So the struggle here for some people is,
- 21:35SPEAKER_00: might be to figure out what they want and need,
- 21:40SPEAKER_00: first of all,
- 21:41SPEAKER_00: but then working to get their life more aligned on a conscious level so that their
- 21:47SPEAKER_00: inner self matches their outer,
- 21:49SPEAKER_00: more public self.
- 21:51SPEAKER_00: That's the part of this aspect that can be challenging and difficult.
- 21:54SPEAKER_00: But this can also be a very positive aspect because remember I said that it was dynamic and energetic.
- 22:01SPEAKER_00: So these tend to be people who have the ability to really push and accomplish a lot.
- 22:08SPEAKER_00: Remember in the aspect episodes that I said that having squares...
- 22:12SPEAKER_00: or oppositions, but having hard aspects in a chart can really be quite helpful.
- 22:17SPEAKER_00: Because without them,
- 22:19SPEAKER_00: people can become too contented or too passive and not really feel the need to take
- 22:24SPEAKER_00: action on anything.
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: Because why?
- 22:27SPEAKER_00: Why would they?
- 22:27SPEAKER_00: Things feel fine the way they are.
- 22:30SPEAKER_00: So there's no real strong desire to push yourself or grow in different directions.
- 22:35SPEAKER_00: Squares change that.
- 22:37SPEAKER_00: They force us to take action in order to change our circumstances.
- 22:41SPEAKER_00: That's where growth happens.
- 22:44SPEAKER_00: And in order to take action in our lives, we need some tension somewhere.
- 22:49SPEAKER_00: For example,
- 22:50SPEAKER_00: if hunger wasn't painful,
- 22:52SPEAKER_00: we might not put in the effort to go find food for ourselves or cook anything.
- 22:56SPEAKER_00: So we need some friction.
- 22:58SPEAKER_00: And this is true for people born under a first quarter moon.
- 23:02SPEAKER_00: There's plenty of friction, which means they may face more adversity than other people.
- 23:08SPEAKER_00: But they're also going to be very capable of addressing whatever challenges come up
- 23:12SPEAKER_00: through that adversity.
- 23:14SPEAKER_00: This is an action-oriented phase, so they'll take challenges head-on.
- 23:19SPEAKER_00: They tend to be very ambitious.
- 23:21SPEAKER_00: They tend to be strivers who want to push the envelope and set big goals for themselves.
- 23:27SPEAKER_00: And then they put in a lot of effort to try and make those goals happen.
- 23:30SPEAKER_00: There's a real sense of adventure here.
- 23:33SPEAKER_00: And finally, I'd also say that boredom is kind of the enemy of people born under this moon.
- 23:39SPEAKER_00: These folks don't like boredom.
- 23:42SPEAKER_00: mundane sorts of things are not where it's at for them.
- 23:45SPEAKER_00: They need something interesting to do.
- 23:48SPEAKER_00: And if they don't have anything interesting to do,
- 23:50SPEAKER_00: they're going to have a lot of excess energy and frustration that,
- 23:54SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 23:54SPEAKER_00: just has nowhere to go.
- 23:56SPEAKER_00: After the first quarter moon, we have the waxing gibbous phase.
- 24:00SPEAKER_00: And the waxing gibbous phase starts at 135 degrees and lasts until about 179 degrees.
- 24:05SPEAKER_00: People born under this phase are really good at strategizing.
- 24:07SPEAKER_00: They know where they want to go.
- 24:18SPEAKER_00: typically,
- 24:19SPEAKER_00: and what their goals are,
- 24:21SPEAKER_00: and they're pretty good at figuring out which steps they need to take to get there.
- 24:27SPEAKER_00: These are often people who have effective structures in place that help them stay
- 24:33SPEAKER_00: productive so they can keep moving forward.
- 24:37SPEAKER_00: they don't have the same level of urgency or impatience that people born under the
- 24:43SPEAKER_00: first quarter moon have,
- 24:45SPEAKER_00: because whatever they came here to work on this time around,
- 24:49SPEAKER_00: they've already worked through some of the kinks of that long-term project before,
- 24:54SPEAKER_00: and they've developed a good deal of confidence having been through all of that.
- 24:59SPEAKER_00: So now it's going to be more about
- 25:01SPEAKER_00: refining what they've been working on, making adjustments wherever and whenever they need to.
- 25:08SPEAKER_00: They're pretty good at pivoting and they'll just continue on in whatever they're
- 25:12SPEAKER_00: doing so that they can get the job done.
- 25:15SPEAKER_00: They know they're almost at the culmination point of whatever growth work they're doing.
- 25:20SPEAKER_00: And if they just stay the course, they're probably going to get there or they will get there in due time.
- 25:27SPEAKER_00: And again, they've learned a lot.
- 25:30SPEAKER_00: They're not at the beginning of the project.
- 25:31SPEAKER_00: So they tend to be very smart and they can be very creative.
- 25:35SPEAKER_00: They make really nice and much needed adjustments to things.
- 25:40SPEAKER_00: And they can do this on anything that they're doing in their life, big or small, actually.
- 25:45SPEAKER_00: Making little adjustments and refining things is often their forte.
- 25:50SPEAKER_00: This is a really good position for healers or any type of creative person,
- 25:57SPEAKER_00: but really anything that involves detail-oriented work.
- 26:02SPEAKER_00: Next, we are halfway through the lunar cycle.
- 26:06SPEAKER_00: We get to the full moon,
- 26:08SPEAKER_00: and the full moon starts at 180 degrees from the sun and lasts up until about 224 degrees.
- 26:18SPEAKER_00: The full moon phase is actually a sun-moon opposition.
- 26:24SPEAKER_00: That's when we get a full moon.
- 26:26SPEAKER_00: It's halfway through the lunar cycle when the sun and the moon are on opposite sides of the wheel.
- 26:33SPEAKER_00: Or the sky, I should say.
- 26:35SPEAKER_00: It's, of course, when the moon is fully illuminated and very bright.
- 26:39SPEAKER_00: It's at its brightest during this phase.
- 26:42SPEAKER_00: And you can think a bit about all of the things we associate the full moon with.
- 26:48SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of energy and a lot of intensity.
- 26:51SPEAKER_00: So full moon people,
- 26:54SPEAKER_00: people born under this lunar phase can often be kind of intense,
- 26:58SPEAKER_00: possibly rather emotional,
- 27:01SPEAKER_00: maybe,
- 27:02SPEAKER_00: but they are noticeable.
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: They garner attention and people tend to pay attention to them.
- 27:10SPEAKER_00: And as a result of that attention, many full moon individuals wind up feeling like,
- 27:16SPEAKER_00: either they are influential or that they should try to become influential in some way.
- 27:23SPEAKER_00: It's also true that full moons are about culmination and release.
- 27:29SPEAKER_00: So often these are people who will be putting important work out there into the world,
- 27:35SPEAKER_00: sharing what they've been working on.
- 27:37SPEAKER_00: It's a very public time.
- 27:39SPEAKER_00: This is not a person who's going to be
- 27:41SPEAKER_00: a wallflower or hanging back in the shadows.
- 27:44SPEAKER_00: This is a very public-facing person,
- 27:47SPEAKER_00: even if it's just public-facing within your own small groups or your own community.
- 27:52SPEAKER_00: And it's not that other people can't do these things.
- 27:55SPEAKER_00: All of the phases can do great work and make contributions or be in the limelight sometimes.
- 28:01SPEAKER_00: Of course they can and they do.
- 28:03SPEAKER_00: But it's just that this phase is especially designed or wired to be doing that even more than most.
- 28:11SPEAKER_00: Now, as I said, it is an opposition.
- 28:14SPEAKER_00: So there's also that element of polarization,
- 28:17SPEAKER_00: that push-pull dynamic we've talked about before,
- 28:21SPEAKER_00: where you're trying to figure out how to create balance in your life or how to
- 28:25SPEAKER_00: integrate two very different or opposing things.
- 28:31SPEAKER_00: That's where the big lesson is and where the learning curve is when you're born under this moon.
- 28:36SPEAKER_00: Balance is going to be very important to them.
- 28:40SPEAKER_00: So learning how to balance opposing things will be a big,
- 28:45SPEAKER_00: big theme all throughout the lifetime for people born under this phase.
- 28:50SPEAKER_00: That applies to yourself.
- 28:53SPEAKER_00: That applies to relationships.
- 28:55SPEAKER_00: It can apply to any area of life, really.
- 28:58SPEAKER_00: And if you look at the houses that the sun and moon are in,
- 29:03SPEAKER_00: That will give you some clues about what it is that you specifically wanted to look
- 29:07SPEAKER_00: at in terms of getting the full picture or learning how to balance certain parts of
- 29:13SPEAKER_00: your life.
- 29:15SPEAKER_00: After this culminating phase, this full moon phase, we now reach the disseminating phase.
- 29:22SPEAKER_00: This is also called the waning gibbous.
- 29:25SPEAKER_00: And you were born under a waning gibbous moon if your moon was between 225 degrees and 269 degrees.
- 29:36SPEAKER_00: And this one,
- 29:36SPEAKER_00: I really prefer to use the term disseminating moon here because this phase is all
- 29:43SPEAKER_00: about sharing or distributing information and also wisdom and sharing messages with
- 29:52SPEAKER_00: other people.
- 29:53SPEAKER_00: Here,
- 29:54SPEAKER_00: you're taking everything that you've learned through all of the other phases so far
- 30:00SPEAKER_00: when the moon was waxing or gaining light and visibility.
- 30:04SPEAKER_00: You got to learn all sorts of things throughout your trial and error period,
- 30:08SPEAKER_00: your striving period,
- 30:10SPEAKER_00: your problem solving and conflict resolution.
- 30:13SPEAKER_00: You got to shine and maybe lead others during the full moon phase.
- 30:19SPEAKER_00: And in this go-round,
- 30:21SPEAKER_00: you're able to take all of that experience and learning and distribute that
- 30:27SPEAKER_00: information far and wide so that other people can have it too and benefit from it.
- 30:33SPEAKER_00: People can benefit from that knowledge.
- 30:35SPEAKER_00: This is a real mission for you in your life.
- 30:38SPEAKER_00: So this can be a phase where you
- 30:41SPEAKER_00: someone can be really inspiring to other people in some way.
- 30:46SPEAKER_00: Maybe they have a spiritual message to share, or maybe it's something more practical.
- 30:51SPEAKER_00: You know, it's a great phase for a really highly creative person to have.
- 30:56SPEAKER_00: Great if you're an artist, or great if you're another creative of some kind.
- 31:01SPEAKER_00: You may feel like you have something important to say, so you could end up in
- 31:07SPEAKER_00: A field like journalism or broadcasting or speaking or writing or something like that.
- 31:13SPEAKER_00: Or it's also a very service oriented moon phase because you may feel like you can help people.
- 31:21SPEAKER_00: So a lot of helping professions can come up here, too.
- 31:25SPEAKER_00: It's also possible that this doesn't have to be related to profession at all.
- 31:30SPEAKER_00: This might just show up for you in the way that you interact with your community or
- 31:36SPEAKER_00: your social circles or your family.
- 31:39SPEAKER_00: Some people like to contribute and be a helper in a more one-on-one personal way.
- 31:45SPEAKER_00: So you may be that person that always has really sage advice to give the people you love.
- 31:52SPEAKER_00: Next is the third quarter moon the third quarter phase and that occurs between 270
- 31:59SPEAKER_00: degrees and 315 degrees.
- 32:03SPEAKER_00: The third quarter moon is also a half moon but the opposite side is lit up as
- 32:09SPEAKER_00: compared to the first quarter moon.
- 32:12SPEAKER_00: This is another square the third quarter moon this is the second square
- 32:17SPEAKER_00: square of the cycle that occurs when the moon is waning,
- 32:21SPEAKER_00: halfway between the full moon and the next new moon or the start of the next lunar cycle.
- 32:28SPEAKER_00: It's a bit similar to the first quarter moon because they're both squares,
- 32:34SPEAKER_00: but they're not exactly the same.
- 32:37SPEAKER_00: Where the first quarter moon is about ambition and striving and working hard to
- 32:43SPEAKER_00: overcome obstacles in order to achieve a goal.
- 32:47SPEAKER_00: So in other words, outward conflict.
- 32:50SPEAKER_00: The third quarter moon is more about inner conflict.
- 32:54SPEAKER_00: It's less active than the first quarter moon and more reflective.
- 33:00SPEAKER_00: The kind of striving that you're doing under this phase is really about integrating
- 33:06SPEAKER_00: your experiences so that you can elevate your personal growth.
- 33:11SPEAKER_00: This phase is about transformation.
- 33:14SPEAKER_00: I associate it with Scorpio energy a little bit, if that makes sense.
- 33:20SPEAKER_00: I don't totally want to assign,
- 33:22SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 33:23SPEAKER_00: signs to the lunar phases,
- 33:26SPEAKER_00: but there are certain things in astrology that might remind you of other things.
- 33:31SPEAKER_00: And this does remind me a little bit of Scorpio energy.
- 33:34SPEAKER_00: These people are going to be looking really deep into themselves, feeling
- 33:40SPEAKER_00: figuring stuff out, learning to reconcile all your own parts and experiences and feelings.
- 33:49SPEAKER_00: And you're going to come out of all of that self-reflection transformed.
- 33:54SPEAKER_00: These can be really, really reflective folks.
- 33:59SPEAKER_00: Last, we have the balsamic phase or the waning crescent.
- 34:04SPEAKER_00: Some people just call this the balsamic moon.
- 34:06SPEAKER_00: The balsamic moon happens from about 315 degrees to 360 degrees.
- 34:15SPEAKER_00: So that's full circle.
- 34:16SPEAKER_00: We're coming very close again to the new moon, the next new moon.
- 34:21SPEAKER_00: This is the last phase of the lunar cycle before beginning a new one at the next new moon.
- 34:28SPEAKER_00: If the third quarter moon reminds me just a bit of Scorpio energy,
- 34:33SPEAKER_00: then this phase feels a bit Piscean to me,
- 34:39SPEAKER_00: or maybe like the 12th house even in a way.
- 34:43SPEAKER_00: This is a time of completion and introspection.
- 34:47SPEAKER_00: There's not as much energy available here for starting new
- 34:51SPEAKER_00: large-scale projects.
- 34:53SPEAKER_00: So being born under this moon is often going to foster lessons around how to be
- 34:59SPEAKER_00: still and trust the flow of things.
- 35:03SPEAKER_00: You wanted to learn how to improve your ability to
- 35:07SPEAKER_00: surrender to a higher power.
- 35:10SPEAKER_00: Sometimes there's even a feeling of having your life left to fate almost,
- 35:16SPEAKER_00: like certain things happen that feel fated or like it just couldn't have been any
- 35:22SPEAKER_00: other way.
- 35:24SPEAKER_00: So it's about letting go of the need to control everything,
- 35:28SPEAKER_00: learning to let go of the way that things are and how they're getting done and how
- 35:33SPEAKER_00: they turn out.
- 35:35SPEAKER_00: And also learning that however things turn out, it's all okay.
- 35:41SPEAKER_00: There's beauty in all things.
- 35:43SPEAKER_00: And wherever you go, there you are, right?
- 35:46SPEAKER_00: It's very Zen, like learning how to just be instead of always doing.
- 35:53SPEAKER_00: all the time.
- 35:54SPEAKER_00: And that just all is in service to the idea of completing the particular cycle of
- 36:00SPEAKER_00: lessons that you're on so that you can tie up whatever loose ends are still out
- 36:04SPEAKER_00: there and be ready in the future to take on a new set of lessons.
- 36:10SPEAKER_00: It's a moment of stillness or relaxation in some cases before a leap forward into the unknown again.
- 36:18SPEAKER_00: People born under a balsamic moon can be incredibly intuitive or even have a
- 36:26SPEAKER_00: profound psychic ability in some cases.
- 36:29SPEAKER_00: That's often a part of oneself that can be developed if someone feels inclined to do that.
- 36:36SPEAKER_00: And it can be a pretty spiritual lifetime in many cases.
- 36:41SPEAKER_00: But much like Pisces or like the 12th house,
- 36:44SPEAKER_00: the challenge here can be around feeling detached or removed from others.
- 36:51SPEAKER_00: Escapism can also be a theme,
- 36:53SPEAKER_00: but you can really lean into that intuition and develop those psychic abilities if
- 37:00SPEAKER_00: you choose to do that.
- 37:02SPEAKER_00: All right, that wraps up today's episode.
- 37:06SPEAKER_00: I am going to do more on the moon in the show in the future.
- 37:10SPEAKER_00: There's more to cover.
- 37:12SPEAKER_00: And I'd love to eventually talk about the lunar cycle again in terms of goal setting and manifestation.
- 37:20SPEAKER_00: In the meantime, if you are into that, you can sign up for my Moon Circle on Substack.
- 37:26SPEAKER_00: I'll include the link in the show notes.
- 37:28SPEAKER_00: It's currently paused,
- 37:30SPEAKER_00: meaning I'm not publishing new content at the moment because I'm reworking some things.
- 37:35SPEAKER_00: But if you do want to sign up, you'll be notified once we're back up and running.
- 37:42SPEAKER_00: Otherwise,

- 37:55SPEAKER_00: That is all for now, everyone.
- 37:57SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much for being here today.
- 37:59SPEAKER_00: I am truly honored that you're learning astrology with me.
