- 0:00Speaker 1: Come on. Uh huh, I sure will. Good morning everybody.
- 0:07Speaker 1: You're listening to the voice, come on, dig me now
- 0:11Speaker 1: for it. Only Steve Harvey got a radio show man
- 0:14Speaker 1: instead of trying to be about the business. To y'all,
- 0:17Speaker 1: I'm doing all I can. But you know what's crazy
- 0:23Speaker 1: in the efforts that I make. I can do more.
- 0:28Speaker 1: And my father used to tell me something when I
- 0:30Speaker 1: was growing up. He says, son, when you've done your best,
- 0:36Speaker 1: and you've done all you can, sit still for a
- 0:41Speaker 1: second and just do a little bit more. Always remember that,
- 0:46Speaker 1: he said, when you've done the best you can and
- 0:49Speaker 1: you can done all you can think of, he say,
- 0:52Speaker 1: sit still for a minute and do some more. And
- 0:55Speaker 1: you know what I've discovered in my life, always have
- 0:57Speaker 1: a little more. I ain't ever just out out completely.
- 1:02Speaker 1: I can't take another step. There ain't another breath in me.
- 1:06Speaker 1: The ain't another thought I can produce. I'm never completely out, man.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Just take a rest for a minute, man, and then
- 1:15Speaker 1: just do a little bit more. And I can't tell
- 1:18Speaker 1: you how many times that's helped me get over the top.
- 1:23Speaker 1: You know, I was watching a documentary about people climbing
- 1:26Speaker 1: Mount Everest and how difficult climbing Mount Everest was and
- 1:30Speaker 1: how they have on the hill something called like a
- 1:34Speaker 1: death zone or a killing zone where the majority of
- 1:37Speaker 1: people run out of oxygen and they have to turn back. Well,
- 1:42Speaker 1: what's crazy is it's right in view of the summit.
- 1:46Speaker 1: You can actually see the top of Mount Everest from there.
- 1:51Speaker 1: But it's that little bit that's left that's just most difficult. Now,
- 1:56Speaker 1: I forgot all the reasons why they said most people
- 1:58Speaker 1: don't make it from there. More people have lost their
- 2:01Speaker 1: lives in that area. I don't know what it is.
- 2:04Speaker 1: But the people that make it to the top of
- 2:08Speaker 1: Mount Efforts, they all had to go through that same
- 2:11Speaker 1: zone of that same area, but they had a little
- 2:16Speaker 1: bit more that allowed them to get to the top.
- 2:20Speaker 1: You know, a lot of people have had accidents up
- 2:22Speaker 1: there trying that. So I'm not even really sure if
- 2:24Speaker 1: Mount Everest analogy is a good one. But let's just
- 2:29Speaker 1: break it down a little bit more. Let's just talk
- 2:31Speaker 1: about life. There's a poem I learned back when I
- 2:36Speaker 1: host Pledging. It's called don't Quit. It goes like this,
- 2:39Speaker 1: if I make a mistake, I'm just trying to drum
- 2:42Speaker 1: it up. So here we go. It says when things
- 2:44Speaker 1: go wrong, as they sometimes will, when the roads you're
- 2:47Speaker 1: trudging seems all uphill, when your funds are low and
- 2:52Speaker 1: your debts are high, when you want to smile, but
- 2:56Speaker 1: you have to sigh when cares are pressing you down.
- 3:00Speaker 1: A bit, rest if you must, but don't quit. For
- 3:05Speaker 1: life is queer with his twisting turns, as every one
- 3:08Speaker 1: of us must sometimes learn. And many a fellow has
- 3:12Speaker 1: turned about when he might have won had he stuck
- 3:16Speaker 1: it out. So don't give up. Though the pace seems slow.
- 3:20Speaker 1: You may succeed with another blow. Often the gold is
- 3:26Speaker 1: nearer than it seems to a faint and a faltering man.
- 3:31Speaker 1: And often the struggler has given up when he might
- 3:34Speaker 1: have captured the victor's cup, and he learns too late,
- 3:38Speaker 1: when the night came down how close he was to
- 3:42Speaker 1: the golden crown. Success is failure turned inside out. It's
- 3:49Speaker 1: your silver tent of your clouds of doubt, and you
- 3:53Speaker 1: never can tell how close you are. It may be
- 3:56Speaker 1: nil when it seems afar, so stick to the fight
- 4:01Speaker 1: when your hardest hit. It's when things seem worse that
- 4:06Speaker 1: you mustn't quit. I remember it because I had a
- 4:10Speaker 1: special method of helping you remember stuff back then. But
- 4:13Speaker 1: I remembered it, and that poem right there has kept me.
- 4:17Speaker 1: You know, we often talk about scripture and everything, and
- 4:21Speaker 1: then I don't see how I could live without it.
- 4:23Speaker 1: But every now and then, man, somebody has a writing.
- 4:26Speaker 1: God puts a writing on somebody's heart that delivers a message, man,
- 4:30Speaker 1: that can help people. I use every motivational tool that
- 4:33Speaker 1: I possibly can to climb this letter of success or
- 4:36Speaker 1: try to be the best father and the best husband
- 4:38Speaker 1: I can be. I've done a lot of changing over
- 4:41Speaker 1: the years, and so have you. But change is necessary
- 4:44Speaker 1: in order to grow. If you don't make changes, folks,
- 4:47Speaker 1: you can't grow. I was a young man on my set.
- 4:51Speaker 1: I kept looking at him. Man, a sharp little young
- 4:53Speaker 1: dude just on my set, and he had these dreads
- 4:58Speaker 1: and I mean they would They was super long, man,
- 5:02Speaker 1: they were well below the middle of his back. I
- 5:05Speaker 1: mean it was just long. And he kept talking to me,
- 5:07Speaker 1: and he kept talking to me and talking to me.
- 5:10Speaker 1: So young man kept talking to me, and I said, hey, man,
- 5:12Speaker 1: you know, you do you a huge self a favor
- 5:15Speaker 1: in the business you're in. If you got a haircut,
- 5:18Speaker 1: you would do yourself a huge favor. I said, your
- 5:21Speaker 1: image is everything. Man, I said, you keep stopping me
- 5:23Speaker 1: in the hallway to try to tell me what you're doing,
- 5:25Speaker 1: what you are, but all I see is your hair.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Now I keep trying to figure out what you're doing
- 5:29Speaker 1: with all that hair. Man, Now you can feel how
- 5:32Speaker 1: you want to feel. But I'm like an employer. I
- 5:36Speaker 1: employed people. So when I'm walking through the hallway and
- 5:39Speaker 1: I try to think of you traveling with me and
- 5:41Speaker 1: you sitting in a meeting with me, I try to
- 5:44Speaker 1: imagine you and your suits sitting there talking business with me.
- 5:47Speaker 1: And so, just like other employers are, I'm just having
- 5:50Speaker 1: a real story with you. So I said, man, you
- 5:53Speaker 1: ought to consider cutting your hair, he said, Man, mister Harve,
- 5:57Speaker 1: I've been growing his hair. Soide as a little boy,
- 5:59Speaker 1: I said, old of you now he said twenty eight?
- 6:02Speaker 1: I said, well, how long you want to hang on
- 6:04Speaker 1: to what you was when you was a little boy?
- 6:07Speaker 1: You know, if you started growing your hair when you're
- 6:08Speaker 1: a teenager, I mean you twenty eight now. And I said,
- 6:12Speaker 1: so let me help you understand something. Let me let
- 6:14Speaker 1: me ask you something. What does it do for you?
- 6:17Speaker 1: He said, Man, it's just who I am. It's I said,
- 6:21Speaker 1: so you your hair? He said no, no, But it's
- 6:24Speaker 1: a part of me. I said, that part of you
- 6:28Speaker 1: that you're hanging on to. What does it do for you?
- 6:31Speaker 1: I just like it, Well, dog, I like ice cream,
- 6:35Speaker 1: but I feed that. But if I hang on the
- 6:37Speaker 1: ice cream and eat ice cream every single day, my
- 6:39Speaker 1: body gonna reflect that. What is it that you hanging
- 6:43Speaker 1: on to that you don't want to let go of?
- 6:46Speaker 1: That's prohibiting you from being what all you can be? See,
- 6:49Speaker 1: it's hard to be what all you can be if
- 6:51Speaker 1: you want to keep being all you was? Don't that
- 6:54Speaker 1: make sense to you? So I can't tell you how
- 6:58Speaker 1: many times I've had to change. Change is necessary to grow.
- 7:04Speaker 1: You can't be all you can be if you want
- 7:08Speaker 1: to keep hanging on to all you was. That don't
- 7:11Speaker 1: make no sense. How do you go forward? If you
- 7:15Speaker 1: keep going backwards? You can't stay here and go there?
- 7:20Speaker 1: Do you understand that if you want to go over there,
- 7:24Speaker 1: you must remove yourself from right here? Oh? I got
- 7:29Speaker 1: right here is comfortable, I got right here is safe.
- 7:33Speaker 1: But over there's where the shade is. Over there's where
- 7:36Speaker 1: the fruit is. Over there is where the opportunity is
- 7:41Speaker 1: over there is where the mountain of goal is. So
- 7:45Speaker 1: why you stuck on here? You got to leave here
- 7:49Speaker 1: to go over there. You can't be all you can
- 7:52Speaker 1: be if you want to stay stuck on who you was.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Change is growth is necessary' all, Let's go here. Listening
- 7:59Speaker 1: into the Steve Harvey Morning Show
