- 0:04Speaker 1: NHL Unscripted is a production of the NHL and iHeart
- 0:07Speaker 1: podcasts Handing out Flowers Jonathan Taine's in the Lanst edition
- 0:24Speaker 1: of NHL Unscripted. They're putting up at Banner in Toronto,
- 0:27Speaker 1: Say What, plus the Texas two Step as Gary Betman
- 0:30Speaker 1: talks with a potential expansion and one of the wilder
- 0:32Speaker 1: days we've seen in a while. Just a ton of
- 0:34Speaker 1: trades going down recently in the world of hockey. Our
- 0:37Speaker 1: special guest is Jackson Blake, Stanley Cup champion. Some thought
- 0:41Speaker 1: to bumping him because you know, maybe he's just basically
- 0:43Speaker 1: other things. We gotta have him on here. This guy's
- 0:45Speaker 1: a Stanley Cup champion and it's busy day, kids, bit
- 0:48Speaker 1: busy day JD. There's no question about it. I mean,
- 0:49Speaker 1: if you you blinked, you missed a who much stuff
- 0:51Speaker 1: going on. Let's start first with the crazy news over
- 0:54Speaker 1: the weekend. It's crazy because we haven't haven't chatted since
- 0:57Speaker 1: Brady cut traded heading to Florida play with his brother
- 1:00Speaker 1: Matthew and the Panthers twelve months a move from winning
- 1:02Speaker 1: their second straight Stanley Cup. Audio gets back to first
- 1:05Speaker 1: a number nine, number twenty five more than not just
- 1:07Speaker 1: a second number nine. They already flipped a conditional first
- 1:09Speaker 1: and twenty twenty nine and a second next summer expected
- 1:12Speaker 1: Florida to bounce back. Now they have a top nine
- 1:13Speaker 1: forward unit here. It is Barkop Rheinhart Ver Hagey, Brady
- 1:17Speaker 1: and Matthew, Sam Bennett, Brad Marsh and Lindell and Lewista Rhynan.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Now your text to me after was like, Bob's gone.
- 1:25Speaker 1: I love that was your reaction. Congrats to Brady, but
- 1:27Speaker 1: Bob's gone. So talk to me about the state of
- 1:29Speaker 1: the Panthers right now.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Ooh uh, I mean Bill's zito man, what if you
- 1:36Speaker 2: talk about We talk about wrenches a lot on this podcast.
- 1:39Speaker 2: This is an absolute He is a gunslinger with these wrenchs,
- 1:43Speaker 2: just shooting off big old, big.
- 1:45Speaker 3: Old brass balls. I mean what, I don't.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Know if it's more him or it's more They should
- 1:54Speaker 2: have never I keep saying it, they should have never
- 1:56Speaker 2: let these guys the NHL go back to the Olympics.
- 1:59Speaker 1: This is no No American will ever want to play
- 2:01Speaker 1: for Canadian City. Connor Hallibuck, I want out zookies.
- 2:04Speaker 2: And everybody like the cascading of of events, that's happening.
- 2:09Speaker 2: But listen, Brady obviously wasn't comfortable in Ottawa. He'd thought
- 2:13Speaker 2: he had seen enough, done enough. I don't know how
- 2:16Speaker 2: I feel about it. Listen, I'll take you feel about it.
- 2:19Speaker 1: It's disappointing as a Canadian because this is a secure
- 2:22Speaker 1: player who does not want to play.
- 2:23Speaker 2: He's an American and and again he got bat Listen,
- 2:26Speaker 2: he got back from the Olympics, and everybody's the first
- 2:29Speaker 2: question they're asking him about is about Cash Pateel and
- 2:32Speaker 2: Donald Trump. Like the guy just wore gold medal, like
- 2:35Speaker 2: your kid, like leam alone, like like a free like
- 2:39Speaker 2: read the room. Yeah, we're trying to get political. But no,
- 2:41Speaker 2: I listen, I I think this really kind of seal.
- 2:45Speaker 2: I would have expected Bob to be signed by now.
- 2:48Speaker 2: I think they're going to be Maybe they do still
- 2:49Speaker 2: sign him, and maybe Bob goes and test free agency
- 2:52Speaker 2: and comes back. But they're missing two goals in a
- 2:54Speaker 2: whole whole fourth line. They have seven million in cap space.
- 2:58Speaker 2: I expect them to move either Rodriguez, maybe ver Hagy,
- 3:03Speaker 2: maybe ver Haigen and get a lot of money off
- 3:05Speaker 2: the book so they can sign a goalie. But I
- 3:07Speaker 2: just heard news that came out that Hellibuk's panthers are
- 3:11Speaker 2: interested in Hellibuck, so they might get them too.
- 3:14Speaker 3: They trade for what they trade.
- 3:16Speaker 2: You trade for, you trade for Hagey, and you trade
- 3:20Speaker 2: whatever picks they have left. I don't even know if
- 3:23Speaker 2: they have any because Ottawa, what a fucking stupid Ottawa's
- 3:27Speaker 2: It's like twenty thirty is the first round pick, Nate,
- 3:30Speaker 2: you have to wait ten years before you even see
- 3:31Speaker 2: that fruition.
- 3:32Speaker 4: I'm not surprised. I'm not surprised just because, uh, I mean,
- 3:37Speaker 4: we're going to get to Ottawa. But I like the
- 3:40Speaker 4: other the other team, I wonder, and we're gonna get
- 3:42Speaker 4: it more. For Connor, Hellibuck is Buffalo. That's another one
- 3:45Speaker 4: that I think that could be in play as well.
- 3:48Speaker 1: I'll that he's saying Buffalo for Hellibuck.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean buffalo there there, they got some they
- 3:55Speaker 2: got some shit to do after the moves they made.
- 3:57Speaker 3: Yeah, that was a that's a good one.
- 3:59Speaker 2: I mean I think anybody and their mother should be
- 4:01Speaker 2: going for helli Buck. Yes, I was saying, I was
- 4:04Speaker 2: saying the Shark should go for Hellibuk. Trade Askaroff and
- 4:06Speaker 2: your ninth overall pick. For Hellibuck. You got the cap space.
- 4:11Speaker 2: It's I think I think Hellibuk should be I guarantee
- 4:15Speaker 2: you Chevel Dayops, Verizon plan or T Mobile plant is exploding.
- 4:20Speaker 4: Oh yeah.
- 4:22Speaker 1: To finish the point with the cards to Ottaway, it
- 4:23Speaker 1: sucks as a Canadian hockey fan because it's another another
- 4:26Speaker 1: star player now leaving Ottawa. And I feel like no
- 4:28Speaker 1: one's gonna sign nate with Ottawa unless it's like a
- 4:30Speaker 1: claw jerue, unless you're from the area. It's late in
- 4:33Speaker 1: your contract. The star players not choosing Ottawa. And if
- 4:35Speaker 1: you look at the list of players got out of Ottawa,
- 4:38Speaker 1: Alexi Ashins, the Dano, Chara Wade, Red mark Stone, Eric Carlson,
- 4:41Speaker 1: Mac Dushane and yeah, your ship and you end up
- 4:49Speaker 1: getting picks back. I'm like, it's one thing. We got
- 4:51Speaker 1: a couple players like, it's picks now again. I know
- 4:52Speaker 1: the number nine got flipped to Willie Eckland, and that's
- 4:54Speaker 1: something there from.
- 4:55Speaker 3: That's a good pick. That's a good pick up for them, right.
- 4:58Speaker 1: So Eckland's there, he joins his old buddy Fabian Zettland,
- 5:00Speaker 1: and I think again the bratty can check move is
- 5:02Speaker 1: good for hockey there's no question about that. You get
- 5:04Speaker 1: two brothers together. This is like the Kelsey brothers playing
- 5:06Speaker 1: together in the NFL. People know who they are. In America.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Florida now becomes more of a villain right now if
- 5:11Speaker 1: you love right him, Like God, God, here the Panthers
- 5:12Speaker 1: go again. They go get Bradykuchuck. So it's good for
- 5:15Speaker 1: the sport. You gotta see more Panthers at a national
- 5:17Speaker 1: level ESPN games, T and T games, and maybe they're
- 5:19Speaker 1: a Stanley Cup champion again. But I think it's bad for Ottawa.
- 5:21Speaker 1: It's bad for Canadian hockey. And ultimately, now what the
- 5:24Speaker 1: centers do, Nate, they made the playoffs the last two
- 5:26Speaker 1: seasons and like just did to trade their best player.
- 5:29Speaker 4: Yeah, Steve Stales has to he can't be done. Can't
- 5:33Speaker 4: be done. He can't be done.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Okay, Well, one of the faces of the team. How's that?
- 5:37Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean he's a unicorn. Brady could Chuck is
- 5:40Speaker 4: a unicorn. Like there's no other players like him in
- 5:42Speaker 4: the league. Like he's kind of a dying breed. So
- 5:44Speaker 4: I think for that reason and the way he was
- 5:46Speaker 4: the emotional leader for Ottawa, like they're going to miss
- 5:48Speaker 4: that for sure, but I I for Steve Stales, like
- 5:51Speaker 4: he did a good job getting Willing Mecklin back. He's
- 5:53Speaker 4: a good player. But I wonder, though, I mean what else,
- 5:58Speaker 4: like I would like to see more done for them.
- 6:00Speaker 4: I wonder if he, you know, makes another trade. I mean,
- 6:03Speaker 4: maybe you go after Matthew Nice. I know that's another
- 6:07Speaker 4: guy that's been available that maybe Ottawa can try and
- 6:09Speaker 4: get to add some size, a big winger like that.
- 6:12Speaker 4: And you know, I just wonder. And then for for Florida,
- 6:16Speaker 4: I think with Brady, you know, like at the end
- 6:19Speaker 4: of the day, he wants to play with his brother, right, Like,
- 6:22Speaker 4: I think it's just it's can't fault as simple as that.
- 6:24Speaker 4: You can't fault him for that. Really. I mean, I
- 6:26Speaker 4: know fans are gonna be all over him about his
- 6:28Speaker 4: loyalty and stuff, but I mean, fuck, at the end
- 6:30Speaker 4: of the day, you're loyal to your brother, your family,
- 6:32Speaker 4: right Like, so yeah, yeah, I think you look at
- 6:35Speaker 4: it that way. And so for Ottawa, I mean, this
- 6:37Speaker 4: is this is man, this is huge for them because
- 6:40Speaker 4: you make the playoffs two years in a row, and
- 6:42Speaker 4: like then you trade Brady could chuck your captain, Like
- 6:44Speaker 4: are you going forward you're going backwards which way you're
- 6:46Speaker 4: going here? And there's only one way to go for Audawa,
- 6:49Speaker 4: Like I mean, we've seen years and years and years
- 6:52Speaker 4: of this, So what's it going to be for them?
- 6:55Speaker 4: I don't know, We'll see.
- 6:56Speaker 2: I'll tell you what it's going to be. Fucking build
- 6:59Speaker 2: that rink as fast as humanly right there, put all
- 7:02Speaker 2: the bells and whistles on it, get those four boys
- 7:05Speaker 2: out of Canada and the Brookfield Hotel, get him into
- 7:08Speaker 2: downtown Ottawa slinging it.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Maybe Tim suits that could be the new captain of
- 7:14Speaker 1: the team. We still see Ottiwise certainly having to make
- 7:16Speaker 1: moves because Brady Kachuck was not gonna be there two
- 7:18Speaker 1: years from now. And it's great news for the Florida Panthers.
- 7:21Speaker 1: In the meantime, Speaking of the Kachuck family, how about
- 7:23Speaker 1: Keith Kachuck a Father's Day weekend to remember his boys
- 7:26Speaker 1: are gonna finally play together and he finds he gets
- 7:27Speaker 1: inducted along with Carrie Price, Pecker, Rene Patrice Bergern, Cindy Curley,
- 7:32Speaker 1: and Brian Burke in the builders category. What a weekend
- 7:35Speaker 1: for ka Chuck. Noble players not to get in, including
- 7:38Speaker 1: Rod Brindenmore, Patrick Illosh, Patrick Marlowe, Ryan getzlap Eric Staal,
- 7:41Speaker 1: Curtis Joseph, who ranks eighth all time with four hundred
- 7:44Speaker 1: and fifty four career wins. JD's some criticism here at
- 7:47Speaker 1: some of the picks. I think Kerry Price absolutely outstanding goldtender,
- 7:50Speaker 1: obviously friend of yours from Montreal. There's been a few
- 7:52Speaker 1: little chirps around Reine and Kachuck the Hall of very
- 7:54Speaker 1: good Bershaw and I think obviously six times Selki winner
- 7:57Speaker 1: deserves it. Love Burkey, your thoughts in the Hall of
- 7:59Speaker 1: Fame class.
- 8:00Speaker 3: I just you put Pecker Rene but not Koujo.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Doesn't make sense?
- 8:04Speaker 4: What the fuck?
- 8:04Speaker 1: Like?
- 8:05Speaker 3: What do we again? We're we're at the Hall of
- 8:07Speaker 3: Good now.
- 8:08Speaker 2: I think we're you know, in probably forty years I
- 8:12Speaker 2: might get into the Hall of Fame with my career
- 8:14Speaker 2: if if we keep.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Hall of Fame person Jason de Mars, if we.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Keep going this way, I'd say probably fifty to sixty years,
- 8:20Speaker 2: I might be.
- 8:21Speaker 3: As a broadcaster.
- 8:23Speaker 4: You could be, you could be, that could be.
- 8:26Speaker 3: Listen.
- 8:27Speaker 2: I uh yeah, I love Patrice Burger home. I think
- 8:30Speaker 2: Keith Kachuk great and Brian Burke there's I listen, there's
- 8:35Speaker 2: it's a great I think it's just an amazing thing
- 8:37Speaker 2: to be inducted and to be considered. I can be
- 8:40Speaker 2: mad at at the guys that they brought in, and
- 8:42Speaker 2: it's not because I'm ever going to be in or not.
- 8:44Speaker 2: I just think that there should be a level of
- 8:48Speaker 2: there should be. It should be almost feel unattainable to
- 8:51Speaker 2: get into the Hall of Fame, not kind of like
- 8:53Speaker 2: if you have a great career, you're probably gonna get in,
- 8:56Speaker 2: like Pecernni and even I'd go to Kerry Price, Kerry
- 8:58Speaker 2: Price and really have the man. Games he was in
- 9:00Speaker 2: he was one of the best, I think, and if
- 9:03Speaker 2: he had a longer run way, But I think games
- 9:06Speaker 2: played and health comes to play into it as well.
- 9:10Speaker 2: To be into the Hall of Fame, it should be
- 9:12Speaker 2: judged on longevity and and and wins and changing the
- 9:16Speaker 2: game and influencing the way the game's played. I think
- 9:19Speaker 2: Carrie did a few of those things. I think his
- 9:21Speaker 2: longevity hurt him. Peck guy, I just I don't know
- 9:25Speaker 2: what you got. What was he nominee for four times
- 9:28Speaker 2: or something, or he won four vess or something.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Definitely didn't win four vests.
- 9:32Speaker 3: No, but he was nominated four times.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Teal, you're our Montreal guy. What do you think about
- 9:36Speaker 1: Kerry Price getting in stunt for Price, Jady's not not
- 9:39Speaker 1: thrilled by it. I might like it.
- 9:42Speaker 5: I think he should be there. He was, you know,
- 9:44Speaker 5: he was eligible last year.
- 9:45Speaker 3: It didn't make it. It was a great class last year. Yeah,
- 9:48Speaker 3: I think all good.
- 9:50Speaker 4: Here's my I think. I I think he deserves to
- 9:52Speaker 4: be there.
- 9:53Speaker 5: But I think the end of the hockey all fan
- 9:55Speaker 5: may want to consider doing what baseball does something. Sometimes
- 9:57Speaker 5: there's one guy who gets into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
- 9:59Speaker 3: That's fine, that's great. I'm completely agree.
- 10:01Speaker 5: You don't need six seven Do we need six seven
- 10:04Speaker 5: people every single year?
- 10:06Speaker 2: There might not be six seven people available, Like, come on,
- 10:11Speaker 2: it's just like we're just throwing people in.
- 10:12Speaker 3: We're running out of room here and see hall anymore.
- 10:15Speaker 3: It's a fucking warehouse.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Hall good, like you said, And I still think should
- 10:21Speaker 1: get in. I think as a player, as a coach,
- 10:24Speaker 1: if you're going to have a Peccerini and then Rod
- 10:25Speaker 1: the bod.
- 10:26Speaker 4: Should be in. That's the one for me. When I
- 10:29Speaker 4: saw Pecerini, I'm like, okay, well the three that jump
- 10:32Speaker 4: out is Rod Berndemore, La Austion, Patrick Marlowe like those three,
- 10:36Speaker 4: Like if Peccerini is getting and why aren't those guys
- 10:38Speaker 4: getting in like that? And it's no disrespect to Pecorini
- 10:41Speaker 4: because at the height of his career, when he was
- 10:43Speaker 4: in his prime, he was unbelievable. He was sick. And
- 10:46Speaker 4: I would say the same for Kerry Price, actually for
- 10:48Speaker 4: Carry Price, and I think he's definitely a Hall of Famer.
- 10:52Speaker 4: I mean I'm biased, obviously I've played with him, but
- 10:53Speaker 4: I just think when he was in his prime, at
- 10:57Speaker 4: the top of his game, I don't know if there
- 10:59Speaker 4: was anybody better than him. I just I just think
- 11:03Speaker 4: as an overall goal he was to me like the
- 11:05Speaker 4: perfect goaltender when it came to size, ability, technique, athletics
- 11:11Speaker 4: is and all those things. And then obviously Bergerron I mean,
- 11:14Speaker 4: I mean the self he is going to be eventually
- 11:16Speaker 4: named after him, I think, so, yeah, I don't have
- 11:19Speaker 4: any problems with that. But the one is the one
- 11:21Speaker 4: is just it's Peckerna. It's no disrespect really good goalie,
- 11:25Speaker 4: but you know, and it's the winning factor too. JD
- 11:29Speaker 4: Like how much winning did he do?
- 11:31Speaker 2: Got it? That's why Patty Marlow. That's why there's a
- 11:34Speaker 2: lot of stuff with Patty Marlow.
- 11:37Speaker 3: I think I scored on pek Renne.
- 11:39Speaker 1: But a personal grudge.
- 11:41Speaker 3: And here's the thing. No, but if I score on you,
- 11:44Speaker 3: you don't get into the Hall of Fame.
- 11:46Speaker 4: Pekerinna gave me stitch to my show.
- 11:47Speaker 2: If I'm scoring a goal on you, you're not getting it.
- 11:51Speaker 1: I'll say this. He was a Best of filist four times.
- 11:53Speaker 1: He won once and having been to Nashville, I do
- 11:55Speaker 1: love the fact it's a statue. All right, he walked down.
- 11:59Speaker 2: He's got no tops in a statue.
- 12:02Speaker 4: Hey for four or for my seven goals one year?
- 12:05Speaker 4: We're all on Marty Broder.
- 12:06Speaker 3: So shouldn't be in the game. You're better than that.
- 12:10Speaker 4: It shouldn't be.
- 12:12Speaker 1: It just gets discredited about the Edmonton Oilers. Meantime, Mike
- 12:16Speaker 1: Babcock is officially back.
- 12:18Speaker 3: Oh god, let's get into this one.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Jay reached conomer for Jason Dickinson. But Babs is apparently
- 12:24Speaker 1: I love to like Gary Bedminton. Well, there's a lovel
- 12:26Speaker 1: of decorum expected at Babs. He's now in his third chance.
- 12:29Speaker 1: Now right, Toronto screws up with the Mitch Martin stuff.
- 12:31Speaker 1: Columbus never even coached them. Can I see that picture
- 12:33Speaker 1: on your phone?
- 12:34Speaker 4: Sure?
- 12:34Speaker 1: Now you get your third chance. Apparently McDavid's on board.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Triestle is on board. At the very least, this is
- 12:40Speaker 1: gonna be entertaining. Get your popcorn ready, JD.
- 12:42Speaker 2: Mike Babcock, Mike bab I mean, I know I heard
- 12:46Speaker 2: that this was kind of this was and it might
- 12:50Speaker 2: come out. But apparently I think this was like Connor
- 12:54Speaker 2: and Leon signed off on it, and like I didn't
- 12:58Speaker 2: think that, which is pretty crazy to me.
- 13:01Speaker 3: I don't understand.
- 13:02Speaker 2: But again, likes gonna be Babcock's gonna be fine with them.
- 13:07Speaker 2: He's gonna be great, He's gonna pet them, and everything's
- 13:10Speaker 2: gonna be good. It's it's the bottom six guys. It's
- 13:14Speaker 2: the guys that you'll have frans into the world.
- 13:16Speaker 3: It's us.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Yeah, it's just a thick bubble guys that are just
- 13:18Speaker 2: gonna get ruined. And maybe listen, I was willing to
- 13:22Speaker 2: extend the olive branch and say, you know what, enough
- 13:25Speaker 2: time has passed. Second chances. We've done it for a
- 13:28Speaker 2: bunch of other people. I mean, he'd be on his
- 13:30Speaker 2: third chance, right, now, but like third chance whatever, you know,
- 13:33Speaker 2: maybe he learned something. He comes into the press conference.
- 13:37Speaker 2: You come into the press conference and you you show
- 13:40Speaker 2: zero accountability for what you did, and you basically go.
- 13:44Speaker 2: My wife figured it didn't fit, so we left. What
- 13:48Speaker 2: of all? You had all this time to prepare for this,
- 13:51Speaker 2: this interview. You knew it was coming, You knew the
- 13:53Speaker 2: question was coming. What the fuck happened with the phones?
- 13:57Speaker 2: Explain it to us at that point, just say, you
- 14:00Speaker 2: know what, I made a mistake. It was something I
- 14:02Speaker 2: read in a book and some fucking self help book,
- 14:06Speaker 2: the psychology book that I read. I made a mistake.
- 14:10Speaker 2: It didn't work. I had to leave my mistake. Sorry,
- 14:13Speaker 2: I'm gonna be better. This will never happen again. Instead,
- 14:16Speaker 2: he goes, yeah, I didn't really cut anybody or bench anybody.
- 14:20Speaker 2: My wife just felt it just didn't seem like it
- 14:23Speaker 2: was gonna fit with the staff.
- 14:24Speaker 3: I'm like, what.
- 14:28Speaker 4: The third person too?
- 14:29Speaker 2: Like he usually does, he does, Mike Babcock does this,
- 14:33Speaker 2: Mike babccock that I love it, but like date like
- 14:36Speaker 2: like it's like it's like Stan Bowman is just I mean, listen,
- 14:41Speaker 2: the one thing I'll give credit to just to like
- 14:43Speaker 2: the Stan Bowman's in the Vegas is they do not
- 14:46Speaker 2: give up fuck what anybody else thinks. They are just
- 14:51Speaker 2: they are doing what they want to do and it's
- 14:53Speaker 2: their team. And hey, I guess credits him to that.
- 14:56Speaker 2: And if it works and they win a Cup, but
- 14:58Speaker 2: I can't see this working out. Been wrong before, happy
- 15:02Speaker 2: to be wrong again for this. But I mean apparently
- 15:07Speaker 2: they wanted it. The top guys wanted it so Connor
- 15:09Speaker 2: and Leon wanted it so.
- 15:11Speaker 4: Yeah that at the end of the day, I guess
- 15:13Speaker 4: that's what you look at, is if those big guys
- 15:16Speaker 4: want him there, great, But I I wondered too for
- 15:19Speaker 4: guys like us JD, like guys like I'm trying to
- 15:21Speaker 4: think of, you know, Jason Dickinson and uh, you know Murphy,
- 15:25Speaker 4: These guys that are more depth, guys like you know,
- 15:28Speaker 4: these these are the guys.
- 15:29Speaker 3: That some somemanski.
- 15:32Speaker 4: Yeah, these are the guys that get absolutely young guy.
- 15:37Speaker 4: I don't know what the word what the word of it,
- 15:39Speaker 4: I guess you can say it just absolutely beat up,
- 15:42Speaker 4: beat up, beat up mentally and and and that's the
- 15:45Speaker 4: thing too, like no humility, Like I just wanted a
- 15:48Speaker 4: little humility in the press conference just a little bit.
- 15:51Speaker 4: There was none of it. Like, I don't I know
- 15:54Speaker 4: how good of a hockey mind he is and x'es
- 15:56Speaker 4: no's and you know he he can recite and he
- 15:59Speaker 4: has an unbelievable memory. He knows all these things. But
- 16:01Speaker 4: like at the end of the day, it's about treating
- 16:04Speaker 4: people the right way. And we're it's twenty twenty six.
- 16:07Speaker 4: I don't care if you know Steve Eisman and he's
- 16:11Speaker 4: your buddy, and you know that was two thousand and six.
- 16:13Speaker 4: It's twenty twenty six. It's twenty years later. So I
- 16:16Speaker 4: just think that this is a huge f and gamble
- 16:20Speaker 4: from the Edmonton Oilers because it's already starting off this
- 16:23Speaker 4: way the press conference, and I don't know, well, we'll
- 16:26Speaker 4: see how it's going in December, but it's just this
- 16:28Speaker 4: is a massive gamble, and it Connor McDavid weighing in
- 16:32Speaker 4: the balances too. This is that's another Zilor gamble.
- 16:35Speaker 1: Yeah, this is a year two years ago.
- 16:36Speaker 3: Good lock Connor.
- 16:38Speaker 1: Tw I can see why McDavid and Drysla would want him,
- 16:40Speaker 1: because I guess from their percepit of saying, well, he's
- 16:42Speaker 1: won ver at least he had Steley Cup champions the
- 16:44Speaker 1: Red Wings. He had success with Team Canada on a
- 16:47Speaker 1: major level, So we want a guy that wins. We
- 16:49Speaker 1: don't want a neo fight who's untested. Your thought on
- 16:51Speaker 1: Stan Bowman tell.
- 16:53Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm wondering if I have some thoughts on are
- 16:56Speaker 5: we getting close to the we need to get the
- 16:58Speaker 5: car keys away from Grandpa's like phase of the Stan
- 17:01Speaker 5: Bowman era.
- 17:03Speaker 3: I just feel like himself. I like that. Yeah, we're
- 17:07Speaker 3: definitely gonna called from I'm fired up. I'm fired Like
- 17:09Speaker 3: Connor Murphy's a fine player.
- 17:11Speaker 5: I hear he's a good guy, but like, what does
- 17:13Speaker 5: why do you give him five years on a no
- 17:16Speaker 5: movement clause at age thirty three?
- 17:18Speaker 4: Like who are you bidding against? Yeah?
- 17:19Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly? Am I missing something here?
- 17:21Speaker 4: Or like?
- 17:22Speaker 3: Does that not makes sense to anyone else?
- 17:24Speaker 2: I just I don't think there's enough right handed d
- 17:26Speaker 2: I think that was a fine signing.
- 17:28Speaker 4: Uh.
- 17:28Speaker 2: I mean the fact that they signed him and Dickinson.
- 17:31Speaker 2: It's like and they're they're paying him like nine million
- 17:33Speaker 2: combined and Connor's making twelve and a half. It's pretty
- 17:36Speaker 2: funny is that those are the two guys with the
- 17:38Speaker 2: money saved? You went and got Now listen, Dickinson I
- 17:42Speaker 2: think can be a good third liner, is gonna be
- 17:44Speaker 2: a good replacement for Adam henryk Uh They got it.
- 17:47Speaker 2: Still got a lot of question marks on this team
- 17:50Speaker 2: right now. They're gonna end up trading Nurse?
- 17:52Speaker 4: What that?
- 17:52Speaker 2: What what they trade Nurse for? We'll see what they
- 17:55Speaker 2: get back. We'll see. But like there's a lot of
- 17:58Speaker 2: d that are coming off the board right now. You know,
- 18:00Speaker 2: there's you know, you're just bo Byron goes to Chicago.
- 18:04Speaker 3: So is another one off.
- 18:05Speaker 2: I don't know who if Wrensky decides to go there,
- 18:08Speaker 2: because we talked about Wrensky that he's going in after
- 18:11Speaker 2: the draft.
- 18:12Speaker 3: I mean maybe Columbus. I don't know. I just don't.
- 18:16Speaker 1: I'm a little worried.
- 18:17Speaker 3: And I feel like this, if you.
- 18:18Speaker 2: Think that the reason you're not winning is the coach,
- 18:22Speaker 2: it's been the goaltending and defense forever.
- 18:24Speaker 3: Fucking fix that, like fix that.
- 18:27Speaker 2: And again, if you need somebody, and I heard if
- 18:29Speaker 2: you need somebody, if Connor and Landing somebody, Hey, we
- 18:32Speaker 2: need somebody to hold this accountable.
- 18:34Speaker 3: Holds yourselves accountable.
- 18:36Speaker 2: Defensively, don't swing away from the puck, get twenty five
- 18:40Speaker 2: less points a year. Make sure that you never get
- 18:42Speaker 2: scored on. So it's like to me, I'm like, I
- 18:45Speaker 2: feel like it's just the easy answer to go get
- 18:48Speaker 2: a coach and say, oh, this is a coach that won.
- 18:50Speaker 2: But I mean, when's the last when's the last time
- 18:53Speaker 2: he won? To your point, was it twenty years ago?
- 18:57Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 18:57Speaker 3: And again, winning is winning with the league's changed, different era.
- 19:01Speaker 1: Speaking of defenseman Jady, the Leafs get their d What
- 19:04Speaker 1: are the top story most weeks? The Leaves acquiring number
- 19:06Speaker 1: one defenseman Darren Bradish from Tampa fifth round picks time
- 19:09Speaker 1: to an eight year deal or sixty eight million dollars.
- 19:11Speaker 1: This guy was a late bloomer. He went undrafted before
- 19:14Speaker 1: breaking up this past season. Twenty two goals, third defenseman
- 19:17Speaker 1: and seventy points. It's a big ad for Toronto, no
- 19:19Speaker 1: question about Chika saw the best name available goes I'm
- 19:22Speaker 1: gonna get him, but a lot of money, a lot
- 19:24Speaker 1: of term. Do you think he's legit, this is a
- 19:26Speaker 1: guy who really didn't make it the league for his
- 19:27Speaker 1: twenty eight or do you think this contract could be
- 19:29Speaker 1: a fugazy.
- 19:31Speaker 2: I think it's gonna be good for three four years.
- 19:33Speaker 2: That's what they're paying him for. I think the extra
- 19:35Speaker 2: is kind of like, hey, here you go, because you're
- 19:37Speaker 2: gonna get paid. No matter what. They went out, they
- 19:39Speaker 2: took a swing. I like what Chika did here. I
- 19:42Speaker 2: don't think the last time Toronto had a legit, power
- 19:46Speaker 2: play quarterback that could fire the puck.
- 19:48Speaker 3: I don't even know. I'm trying to think back was
- 19:49Speaker 3: it Riley?
- 19:50Speaker 4: Than? Yeah?
- 19:52Speaker 3: Then it was who was it? Was it caberletma McCabe.
- 19:57Speaker 2: Yeah, you had Brian McCabe. So like enough back finef
- 20:03Speaker 2: But I think like this is a great pickup. I
- 20:06Speaker 2: think it's they need that. He's to me, he's a
- 20:09Speaker 2: better version of Morgan Riley. He's a little bit meaner,
- 20:12Speaker 2: better shot, similar player, but I just think he's a
- 20:15Speaker 2: better version. So I think, to me, this is this
- 20:18Speaker 2: is I like what Chike is doing. He's trying to
- 20:20Speaker 2: prove to Amats and those guys that they're going to
- 20:23Speaker 2: be competitive this year.
- 20:24Speaker 3: They're not rolling over and rebuilding. They're going for it.
- 20:26Speaker 2: Look Out, Gavin McKenna, that PP is gonna be nice. McKenna, Neilander,
- 20:32Speaker 2: Nyes in front, Matthew maybe Radish and Radish on the top.
- 20:39Speaker 1: Natas is enough to make the Leaves a playoff team.
- 20:44Speaker 4: No, it's not. No. I do like the signing. I
- 20:48Speaker 4: agree with what Jad said, everything he said about him.
- 20:50Speaker 4: I think that overall, I mean, he is a late bloomer,
- 20:54Speaker 4: but they hit seventy points in the way he did it.
- 20:56Speaker 4: And and like you said, the big thing for me
- 20:57Speaker 4: is a shot like he's got an absolute bomb and
- 21:00Speaker 4: on the power play, that's going to change their power play.
- 21:02Speaker 4: But I don't think that for the Leaves, I mean,
- 21:04Speaker 4: moving forward, I don't know if they're a power play
- 21:06Speaker 4: or a playoff team just because of this, Because you
- 21:08Speaker 4: look at the rest of the Atlantic Division. Atlantic Division
- 21:11Speaker 4: is an absolute gauntlet. So and I don't think that
- 21:14Speaker 4: they're better than a lot of than four other teams
- 21:16Speaker 4: in that division. So I look at this signing though,
- 21:18Speaker 4: and I think, you know, Chika, if credit to Chika,
- 21:22Speaker 4: like you said, Jadi like to go out there and
- 21:24Speaker 4: make some hay. I mean, I don't think he's done,
- 21:26Speaker 4: but we'll see. I mean, I do like the fact
- 21:29Speaker 4: that you know Darren Radish's going there. I mean it's
- 21:32Speaker 4: I wonder though, like looking back on it, like you said,
- 21:34Speaker 4: in three or four years, if if you know you're
- 21:39Speaker 4: you have Dicky your kouchure off. And what if Austin
- 21:41Speaker 4: Matthews leaves like I don't know in a year or two,
- 21:43Speaker 4: like what does this look like in a couple of
- 21:44Speaker 4: years if Leafs have to make some more moves, you know, yeah.
- 21:48Speaker 1: They could be growling.
- 21:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:50Speaker 1: Meantime, the trades certainly were notable and fast and furious.
- 21:52Speaker 1: This week, Jad you got your thought. Jordan Cairou to Washington,
- 21:56Speaker 1: want to change the pace again? Big money, eight years,
- 21:58Speaker 1: eight million year, Connor McMichael, good young player, Milton Gash
- 22:02Speaker 1: and a first so Kirou to Washington. The other guy's
- 22:04Speaker 1: going the other way to Saint Louis and buffal listening
- 22:06Speaker 1: bo Byram and Jordan Greeny to Chicago for the fourth
- 22:09Speaker 1: overall pick, pick number forty five, and Luis Krevi on
- 22:12Speaker 1: the version of the draft. I want your thoughts of
- 22:14Speaker 1: both those movies, Kyrou and bo Biram.
- 22:17Speaker 3: I listen.
- 22:18Speaker 2: I think Chicago the more I look at it, they
- 22:21Speaker 2: really they could have maybe paid a fools ransom for this.
- 22:25Speaker 2: Jordan Greenway is a big body that when he is
- 22:28Speaker 2: playing is fantastic. That's just the question is when you
- 22:32Speaker 2: get it. He's a little helter skelter. He's up and down,
- 22:35Speaker 2: and when he decides to lock in, he's very effective forward.
- 22:38Speaker 2: I mean Bow and Birom. I really like boone Byrom.
- 22:41Speaker 2: I think Chicago needs to get better now. I think
- 22:45Speaker 2: that the fact that you know you're going to take
- 22:49Speaker 2: a shot on a pick at a defenseman in this
- 22:51Speaker 2: draft class, it is a good year for defenseman in
- 22:54Speaker 2: this draft. But I like to trade for Buffalo. Honestly,
- 22:57Speaker 2: they get Luis Crevier, they get another pick, they might
- 23:00Speaker 2: move that pick for another player.
- 23:01Speaker 3: They now get a you know what.
- 23:04Speaker 2: They wanted Michael Kesseling to be, which is just kind
- 23:07Speaker 2: of like a shutdown, you know, big body that plays physical,
- 23:11Speaker 2: chips the puck out and can play PK. They got
- 23:13Speaker 2: that in Crevier, and they're gonna get an opportunity to
- 23:16Speaker 2: maybe make another move and get somebody else. So I
- 23:19Speaker 2: like the trade for both teams. I lean more on
- 23:23Speaker 2: Buffalo for sure, and then you know, you can talk
- 23:27Speaker 2: a little bit about Cairo tom Or, but I like
- 23:29Speaker 2: the trade for both teams as well. I think both
- 23:32Speaker 2: teams it's it's gonna be whoever whichever players perform. But
- 23:36Speaker 2: to me, it's kind of. I lean Buffalo on on
- 23:39Speaker 2: the bone and Byron trade.
- 23:41Speaker 3: Chicago's going to have to pay Byron too.
- 23:44Speaker 2: He's got a big raise. Yeah, but they're you know
- 23:46Speaker 2: they got him, they got Badard. He you know, Byron
- 23:50Speaker 2: months to be number one. They're going to get to
- 23:52Speaker 2: be one.
- 23:53Speaker 4: He's almost cooking with gas here.
- 23:55Speaker 1: Well, I was gonna say, the Blues have four first
- 23:57Speaker 1: rounders now between eleven and twenty nine, the Sharks first,
- 24:01Speaker 1: including second, and the nine picks. So Jad your Sharks me,
- 24:03Speaker 1: that's very activist versus draft is concern and the Blues
- 24:06Speaker 1: are hoping it. I mean, four first is a lot
- 24:08Speaker 1: between eleven and twenty nine.
- 24:09Speaker 2: I mean Tom or four first. Doug Armstrong, what's he
- 24:14Speaker 2: swinging for here?
- 24:15Speaker 4: Is something?
- 24:16Speaker 3: I mean maybe you think he picks those or no?
- 24:19Speaker 4: Well, I wonder, I wonder. I mean you talked about Connor,
- 24:22Speaker 4: Hellibuck and Jordan. Bennington's got to go somewhere. Edmonton's need
- 24:25Speaker 4: needs a goaltender. I don't know. I mean it is
- 24:28Speaker 4: sa Lewis making a bid for for Connor. It's possible.
- 24:33Speaker 4: I mean, I look at look how many first rounders
- 24:35Speaker 4: they just got. I mean, I think all these gms
- 24:38Speaker 4: like they're they're collecting these first round picks, collecting them,
- 24:41Speaker 4: collecting and flipping them. That that for me is and
- 24:44Speaker 4: also the other one is Buffalo is Buffalo getting some
- 24:48Speaker 4: picks for Connor Hellibuck, like I think set on their
- 24:52Speaker 4: goaltending right now.
- 24:53Speaker 2: Yeah, but they're gonna lose Tuck. He's going to free agency,
- 24:56Speaker 2: like I think they're gonna end up. I don't think.
- 24:59Speaker 2: I think they're gonna be worse next year. Unfortunately, I
- 25:01Speaker 2: don't think they're gonna have the same I think Lindy
- 25:03Speaker 2: Rouff gets canned have way through the year. I don't
- 25:06Speaker 2: take Jack finalists, come on, take I'm gonna tell you
- 25:10Speaker 2: right now, let's look it out.
- 25:11Speaker 4: But I love what I would be shocked at that.
- 25:13Speaker 2: I like what Washington does. They bring in Cayrou. I
- 25:16Speaker 2: think they're really trying to entice ov to come back.
- 25:20Speaker 2: They're bringing in their staying. I think with uh Protus's
- 25:23Speaker 2: brother coming up, I think they're gonna be very good
- 25:26Speaker 2: up front. I think they might they might go after
- 25:28Speaker 2: somebody in the back end as well, But I think
- 25:30Speaker 2: Connor McMichael fits the Saint Louis mold and then first
- 25:33Speaker 2: for four first. I mean it's going to be It's
- 25:37Speaker 2: gonna be interesting to see, Jane what they do.
- 25:40Speaker 1: We don't talk a lot of cracking. How about Seattle
- 25:42Speaker 1: helping their top six forward unit, the acquire Matthew Semiskevitch
- 25:45Speaker 1: from Florida.
- 25:46Speaker 2: And another Oh, they brought in another second line player,
- 25:51Speaker 2: but I wanted to the.
- 25:52Speaker 1: Recent bother the band six years, thirty four and a
- 25:54Speaker 1: half million.
- 25:55Speaker 2: I like Bobby. I think it's great a playing team.
- 25:58Speaker 2: At least they got Bobby McMahan locked up. They have
- 26:01Speaker 2: a bunch of second and third line guys. No knock
- 26:03Speaker 2: on any of those guys.
- 26:04Speaker 4: You need.
- 26:04Speaker 2: Those guys do win a cup. But they don't have
- 26:06Speaker 2: anybody that jumps off the page up front. No, that's
- 26:09Speaker 2: just what they need.
- 26:11Speaker 4: I mean, no one wants to go there, I guess right.
- 26:14Speaker 1: Last one for you, Nate. How about New Jersey sink
- 26:15Speaker 1: Simone Namach and Maxim Siplokoff Calgary a conditional first in
- 26:19Speaker 1: twenty twenty seven and twenty twenty eight, as well as
- 26:21Speaker 1: a second this year and prospect atm molrant it.
- 26:26Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, I think this has been brewing a
- 26:28Speaker 4: long time and he just hasn't, you know, he hasn't
- 26:30Speaker 4: turned into the player. I think New Jersey, New Jersey
- 26:33Speaker 4: Devils wanted him to. And you know, look at the
- 26:35Speaker 4: his numbers and where he's at, and the development hasn't
- 26:39Speaker 4: been there. So I think him going to Calgary, you know,
- 26:41Speaker 4: getting another look, getting an opportunity, you know, being a
- 26:44Speaker 4: guy there, maybe with Zane Perrek. I think looking you
- 26:46Speaker 4: look at the you know, the decor there. But you know,
- 26:49Speaker 4: I like what Calgary did here. I do. I think
- 26:51Speaker 4: they're trying to get younger, they're trying to get better,
- 26:54Speaker 4: They're trying to get the staples that they need for
- 26:55Speaker 4: their team. And Simone Imach is one of those guys.
- 26:58Speaker 4: And and Jersey gets a big haul back too, So
- 27:00Speaker 4: j D. I think overall this is probably what both
- 27:03Speaker 4: parties needed in this movie.
- 27:05Speaker 1: We shall see lots of activity before the draft. I'm
- 27:07Speaker 1: sure it will continue. We'll move on with Jackson Blake
- 27:10Speaker 1: Stanley Cup champion of the Carolina Hurricanes. He joins us
- 27:13Speaker 1: right after this. The champ is here our next guest
- 27:30Speaker 1: draft in the fourth round, one hundred and ninth overall
- 27:32Speaker 1: by the Carolina Hurricanes in the twenty twenty one NHL Draft.
- 27:36Speaker 1: After two years at the University of North Dakota. He
- 27:38Speaker 1: enjoyed a standout rookie season with the Hurricanes, finishing fifth
- 27:41Speaker 1: in the team with seventeen goals. He then improved in
- 27:44Speaker 1: every statistical category this season, scoring twenty two goals in
- 27:47Speaker 1: fifty three points, before going off in the postseason and
- 27:49Speaker 1: raising the Stanley Cup for the first time in his
- 27:52Speaker 1: young career. Congrats Jackson Blake, thanks for coming on on scripted.
- 27:56Speaker 6: Yeah, thanks for having me, guys.
- 27:58Speaker 1: I can't imagine what that feeling is like. It's been
- 28:00Speaker 1: days since he became a champion. Has it set in
- 28:03Speaker 1: Jackson that you are he steely kept champion?
- 28:06Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean it finally has. I think.
- 28:10Speaker 7: I think when you when you win, you don't really
- 28:12Speaker 7: realize it, or it doesn't really set in until you know,
- 28:16Speaker 7: a couple of days or weeks even after. And now
- 28:20Speaker 7: just kind of settling down being back home in Minnesota,
- 28:23Speaker 7: it's it's set in for sure.
- 28:25Speaker 3: I mean, didn't hurt.
- 28:26Speaker 2: It was in Vegas and before we talk about the
- 28:29Speaker 2: festivities afterwards, you know, I got to be on the
- 28:31Speaker 2: ice and interview a bunch of guys. I didn't get
- 28:34Speaker 2: to interview you, but I kind of watched you from Afar,
- 28:37Speaker 2: and not to sound creepy or anything like I was
- 28:40Speaker 2: stalking you after you want, but I watch you with
- 28:43Speaker 2: your family on the ice. You know, your dad, your
- 28:46Speaker 2: I think your sisters. You had a huge group with you.
- 28:49Speaker 2: But talk about just what that meant to you be
- 28:51Speaker 2: in the ice, especially with your dad who played in
- 28:55Speaker 2: just that feeling and take us through that moment.
- 29:01Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean it was it was special. I mean
- 29:05Speaker 7: it was cool to do it in Vegas. I think
- 29:07Speaker 7: just because you know, people travel and get to see it.
- 29:10Speaker 7: Obviously probably cool to do it at home too, but
- 29:12Speaker 7: I think even the road is cooler sometimes.
- 29:14Speaker 6: But like you said, I had a huge group there.
- 29:18Speaker 7: My whole family was there, and you know, I not
- 29:22Speaker 7: the biggest emotional guy, but just seeing everyone come down
- 29:25Speaker 7: and seeing them come on the ice, it kind of
- 29:28Speaker 7: just hit me. And especially, like you said, my dad
- 29:30Speaker 7: was there and he never got the chance to do it.
- 29:33Speaker 7: He played a long time, but you know, never got
- 29:34Speaker 7: the opportunity to win, and you know, to kind of
- 29:38Speaker 7: share this together, and you know, we've been through so
- 29:41Speaker 7: much in my career and you know, I know he's
- 29:44Speaker 7: been through so much in his so just to kind
- 29:46Speaker 7: of finally, you know, live out this dream that you know,
- 29:49Speaker 7: we've both been dreaming of our whole lives. And it
- 29:52Speaker 7: was really cool and to do it, like I said,
- 29:54Speaker 7: with all my family members there. They were at every
- 29:56Speaker 7: single game in the final and it was really cool.
- 30:00Speaker 2: Your dad was before Nate takes the next question, I
- 30:03Speaker 2: got to you know, I was up calling the game
- 30:06Speaker 2: so I could see your dad, and it was so
- 30:09Speaker 2: it was so great to watch all the fans around
- 30:11Speaker 2: that figured out it was him every time, especially in
- 30:14Speaker 2: that last game out well you played, they're all just
- 30:16Speaker 2: high fiveing up, grabbing his jacket and he's almost like
- 30:18Speaker 2: turning around being like, just fucking leave me alone.
- 30:21Speaker 3: Yeah, let me watch this.
- 30:23Speaker 7: I know. That's that's how he is, he says when
- 30:25Speaker 7: when we're playing, he says, he's just tunnel vision. He
- 30:28Speaker 7: doesn't want anyone talking to him, anyone touching him or anything.
- 30:31Speaker 7: But I'm sure when it was over here is probably
- 30:33Speaker 7: just like all right now you guys can.
- 30:35Speaker 6: Let's go now.
- 30:37Speaker 4: Yeah, Jackson, I guess I'll get into that a little bit.
- 30:39Speaker 4: Just an extension of your dad, you know, just being
- 30:41Speaker 4: able to train with him, work out with him, you know,
- 30:44Speaker 4: towards the end of his career and I was in
- 30:45Speaker 4: the beginning of my career. But were there a lot
- 30:48Speaker 4: of things that you know, you learned from him, whether
- 30:50Speaker 4: it was you know, on the ice, off the ice.
- 30:54Speaker 4: You know, what things did you have you taken away
- 30:55Speaker 4: from your dad when it came to your playing career.
- 31:00Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean there's there's a lot.
- 31:02Speaker 7: Obviously, I think having a dad who who played is
- 31:05Speaker 7: a really big benefit because he's been through everything pretty
- 31:09Speaker 7: much in his career except for winning.
- 31:12Speaker 6: So just you know, all the little things.
- 31:16Speaker 7: You know, obviously, like every dad, just go out there
- 31:19Speaker 7: and work hard and stuff like that. But you know,
- 31:21Speaker 7: he still texts me after games. It doesn't matter if
- 31:24Speaker 7: if I score or have a best game. He always
- 31:26Speaker 7: is He's pretty nitpicky with me, so he he'll find
- 31:29Speaker 7: something in there that I didn't do right or need
- 31:31Speaker 7: to work on or something. But you know, he's he's
- 31:35Speaker 7: devoted a lot of his time and sacrifice, you know,
- 31:37Speaker 7: pretty much his life to to help me become the
- 31:40Speaker 7: player and the man I am today.
- 31:42Speaker 6: And you know, there's a there's a lot of things.
- 31:44Speaker 7: I don't know, watch stands out the most, but you know,
- 31:48Speaker 7: just his his dedication to me. And I have a
- 31:50Speaker 7: younger brother too, who he's working with now. But you know,
- 31:54Speaker 7: I just I just think how special it is to
- 31:57Speaker 7: have a dad like dad, who cares so much and.
- 31:59Speaker 6: Who's been through it.
- 32:00Speaker 7: And I've said this before, Like when I was growing up,
- 32:03Speaker 7: I just thought it was the no arm to have
- 32:05Speaker 7: your dad play in the NHL and you know, hang
- 32:07Speaker 7: out with Bobby Ryan and Salony and these guys.
- 32:10Speaker 6: Were like, oh yeah, there, I was a team of yesterday.
- 32:13Speaker 6: Like that's just I thought that was an arm.
- 32:15Speaker 7: But you grow up and you realize not everyone's dad
- 32:17Speaker 7: plays in the NHL, and you know how special and
- 32:20Speaker 7: how cool it is. And you know, I was still young.
- 32:23Speaker 7: I was only like ten or ten years old when
- 32:25Speaker 7: he retired, so I only remember a little bit of it.
- 32:28Speaker 7: But you know, he's he's meant the world to me,
- 32:31Speaker 7: and you know he's still he's still helping me today.
- 32:35Speaker 6: So it's awesome.
- 32:37Speaker 1: Father knows best. It's great to have that connection. Jackson.
- 32:40Speaker 1: That second line was second to none. You're with Logan
- 32:43Speaker 1: staink Covid and Taylor Hall dominated all playoffs long. What
- 32:47Speaker 1: was that moment that you guys realized you had real chemistry.
- 32:51Speaker 7: Yeah, I think the whole I mean, we played together
- 32:54Speaker 7: pretty much the whole year. I think towards the end,
- 32:58Speaker 7: the pucks were going in and we were getting the
- 33:00Speaker 7: bounces we weren't really getting during the year. And you know,
- 33:05Speaker 7: Stanks at the end of the regular season scored in
- 33:07Speaker 7: every single game, So I mean when he was scoring,
- 33:11Speaker 7: you know, we felt like we were playing really well,
- 33:13Speaker 7: and we kind of had that good stretch, like I said,
- 33:16Speaker 7: at the end of the year there, and we had
- 33:18Speaker 7: some good momentum going into playoffs, and I think, you know,
- 33:21Speaker 7: having that good start against Ottawa really got us on
- 33:23Speaker 7: on the right foot as a line and as a
- 33:25Speaker 7: group as well. But yeah, I just think we all
- 33:28Speaker 7: had the same mentality as a line, and we're really connected.
- 33:32Speaker 6: I think that's the word I would use, just that
- 33:33Speaker 6: we were all playing the.
- 33:34Speaker 7: Same way, and you know, it didn't matter who we're
- 33:37Speaker 7: playing against or you know, who's out there, whether it
- 33:39Speaker 7: was their first line or their third line, you know,
- 33:42Speaker 7: we're going to play the same way and try to
- 33:44Speaker 7: make it hard on.
- 33:45Speaker 6: Them and just play the way we know we can.
- 33:47Speaker 7: And obviously those guys are incredible players and it was
- 33:51Speaker 7: a blast playing with those two, and I told Halsey,
- 33:53Speaker 7: you can't retire anytime soon because I want to keep
- 33:55Speaker 7: this thing going because it's it's so fun.
- 33:57Speaker 6: But yeah, it was.
- 33:59Speaker 7: It was a blast, and obviously, like I said, credits
- 34:02Speaker 7: to those two because couldn't have done any thing without
- 34:04Speaker 7: those guys.
- 34:05Speaker 6: So it was a lot of fun.
- 34:06Speaker 2: Yeah, talk a little bit more about Taylor Hall and
- 34:08Speaker 2: and you know what a postseason he had and what
- 34:11Speaker 2: he's done in his career. You know, a guy to win,
- 34:16Speaker 2: to win the Cup and now he also won the
- 34:19Speaker 2: Heart Trophy, Like what have you what's something you've learned
- 34:23Speaker 2: from him and and what did you take away from
- 34:25Speaker 2: playing with him?
- 34:28Speaker 7: Yeah, Halsey's been through a lot in his career, for sure,
- 34:31Speaker 7: and I'm sure everyone's seen that. And you know, he's
- 34:35Speaker 7: never even made it to his Eastern Conference finals until
- 34:38Speaker 7: last year, and he's won a Heart Trophy.
- 34:41Speaker 6: So obviously he's a stud and always has been.
- 34:44Speaker 7: But just coming to Carolina I think has really helped
- 34:47Speaker 7: him just be on a team that you know, we
- 34:51Speaker 7: want to win and we all have the same goal.
- 34:53Speaker 7: And I'm sure he's been on teams where maybe some
- 34:55Speaker 7: guys are doing different things.
- 34:57Speaker 6: You know, and I.
- 34:59Speaker 7: Just think, like something I've learned from him is just
- 35:01Speaker 7: like just how you know, while he takes care of
- 35:04Speaker 7: his body, I think, you know, you can't play that
- 35:06Speaker 7: long at that high level, and you know, treat your
- 35:09Speaker 7: body like crap. Like he treats his body like a temple.
- 35:12Speaker 7: And he's always stretching his stuff. And I'm like, maybe
- 35:15Speaker 7: I should start doing that a little bit more and
- 35:17Speaker 7: maybe I'll play a little longer. But and then just
- 35:20Speaker 7: like like he's thirty some years old and he still
- 35:25Speaker 7: wants to be the best, and he still wants to,
- 35:27Speaker 7: you know, be up here, and you know he is.
- 35:29Speaker 6: He's playing.
- 35:30Speaker 7: Like I said in those playoffs, was he was one
- 35:32Speaker 7: of the best players in the whole league.
- 35:34Speaker 6: And you know that's just who he is.
- 35:35Speaker 7: And you know, game six, I was so nervous, like
- 35:38Speaker 7: the most nervous I've ever been through a game because
- 35:40Speaker 7: you don't know or for a game, you don't know
- 35:42Speaker 7: what's gonna happen.
- 35:43Speaker 6: Yeah, you want to go back to Carolina Game seven,
- 35:45Speaker 6: and I just.
- 35:46Speaker 7: Look at Halsey in the locker room when he's just
- 35:47Speaker 7: chilling and stuff, and I'm like, dude, this guy's insane,
- 35:50Speaker 7: like not all, but no, he's he's the best.
- 35:54Speaker 6: And obviously me and Stanks.
- 35:55Speaker 7: Are two young guys, you know, just coming into the
- 35:58Speaker 7: league second and he played a little bit before, but
- 36:00Speaker 7: my second year and having a guy who's been through
- 36:03Speaker 7: all the ups and downs, and you know, it's it's
- 36:07Speaker 7: really special to have a guy like that you.
- 36:08Speaker 4: Can go to for sure, another special guy. I want
- 36:13Speaker 4: to talk about your team. Is you know your captain,
- 36:14Speaker 4: Jordan Stall. You know, he wins the con smythe and
- 36:18Speaker 4: you know, just so impressive the way he you know,
- 36:20Speaker 4: he performer throughout the whole playoffs. You know, I guess
- 36:24Speaker 4: take us into the locker room a little bit and
- 36:27Speaker 4: and how Jordan Stall leads and and what he's like
- 36:30Speaker 4: in certain moments, because I know you guys had different
- 36:32Speaker 4: pittable moments throughout the playoffs. And is he a guy
- 36:35Speaker 4: that is loud or is it just all I'm gonna
- 36:38Speaker 4: go show you guys and lead by example.
- 36:41Speaker 6: I think it's more sole lead by example.
- 36:45Speaker 7: I think, you know, Marty is probably the loudest leader
- 36:48Speaker 7: in our in our group, I mean fish really yeah, yeah, sorry,
- 36:53Speaker 7: you guys probably didn't know that.
- 36:55Speaker 4: I'm sure.
- 36:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I played with Marty so yeah, he's a dear friend.
- 36:59Speaker 2: Yeah he's there's not a guy louder, I know he's.
- 37:03Speaker 6: So he's the talker for sure.
- 37:05Speaker 7: Fishy he talks too, and Slavil will says his words too.
- 37:10Speaker 7: But I think just you know, he leads by example,
- 37:15Speaker 7: you know, on and off the ice for sure. And
- 37:17Speaker 7: I mean, you guys, you guys saw it. That's why
- 37:19Speaker 7: he won the cons Mike, just because he was penalty killing,
- 37:23Speaker 7: he was on the power play, he was scoring goals,
- 37:25Speaker 7: he was doing the little things, playing against their top
- 37:28Speaker 7: line and shut him down and then going scoring goals
- 37:30Speaker 7: like I mean, no one was more deserving than that
- 37:33Speaker 7: than him, for sure. And that's just kind of the
- 37:35Speaker 7: man he is and the guy he is. He'll do
- 37:37Speaker 7: anything for the guy next to you. And I remember
- 37:40Speaker 7: him telling this too. He's like, he wants to win
- 37:42Speaker 7: so bad himself, but he just wants to win it
- 37:44Speaker 7: for guys like us on the team, or guys like
- 37:46Speaker 7: Halsey who have been close but haven't gotten it and
- 37:49Speaker 7: Marty and those guys. So just a selfless human being
- 37:53Speaker 7: and that's why he's our captain, just because he'll do
- 37:55Speaker 7: anything for us, like you guys saw too. He thought
- 37:58Speaker 7: Brady could chuck in two seconds and in the playoffs, like
- 38:02Speaker 7: that's just what he does. I mean you know that,
- 38:04Speaker 7: you guys see it too. And incredible postseason by him
- 38:08Speaker 7: and especially in the final.
- 38:09Speaker 6: That's what he does. Like he shows up in big moments.
- 38:12Speaker 7: So you know he's our he's our, you know, our
- 38:15Speaker 7: team leader and our team at m VP for a
- 38:17Speaker 7: reason because he does all the little things and does
- 38:19Speaker 7: it all at you know, his best.
- 38:21Speaker 1: So and speaking of leadership, brings this to your head
- 38:24Speaker 1: coach Rod Brindymore, two time winner of the Selki Hurricane
- 38:27Speaker 1: Slash Whaler's franchise record most goals in a single postseason.
- 38:31Speaker 1: He had twelve back in OH six when you guys won,
- 38:33Speaker 1: and then twenty years later. I mean he makes the
- 38:35Speaker 1: playoffs every year, eight years as a head coach and
- 38:37Speaker 1: claiming four division titles and he gets a shirt ripped offs.
- 38:40Speaker 1: We can all see he is still truly what do
- 38:43Speaker 1: you gottah?
- 38:46Speaker 6: Yeah right, he gives the people what they want with that.
- 38:49Speaker 6: So Jack forty pack, I don't even know how many
- 38:51Speaker 6: they are.
- 38:52Speaker 4: There, but.
- 38:54Speaker 3: I went right to the gym when they ripped his shirt.
- 38:56Speaker 3: I was like, I gotta get.
- 38:56Speaker 4: Back to Jack. Yeah, no, I know.
- 38:58Speaker 7: I mean even when they put like I was up
- 39:01Speaker 7: with keanra Miller, I'm like, geez, dude, this guy is
- 39:03Speaker 7: trying normal. Don't put a picture out there. Me sureless guy, but.
- 39:08Speaker 6: No Rods.
- 39:10Speaker 7: He's great. I mean, there's in my opinion, there's not
- 39:13Speaker 7: a better coach in the world than him. He does
- 39:17Speaker 7: it all for us. And I've said this before too,
- 39:20Speaker 7: Like I it's so much. It's such a benefactor to
- 39:23Speaker 7: have a coach who's played and been through it all
- 39:26Speaker 7: and has won and has you know, been in the
- 39:28Speaker 7: same seat you were in. So I think that's a
- 39:31Speaker 7: huge advantage for us. But no, he he he's another
- 39:35Speaker 7: guy like Jordo who just wants he wants it for us,
- 39:38Speaker 7: and he wants to win so bad himself, but he
- 39:40Speaker 7: wants it for for us too. And you know, obviously
- 39:44Speaker 7: he was a great player, and he's been a great
- 39:46Speaker 7: coach and a good mentor for me to have as
- 39:48Speaker 7: a young guy.
- 39:49Speaker 6: Coming into the league.
- 39:49Speaker 7: And yeah, I mean, there's there's not enough good things
- 39:53Speaker 7: to say about this guy, just because of how much
- 39:55Speaker 7: he cares whether it's Game three of the regular season
- 39:58Speaker 7: or Game six of the Stanley Cup Final. He's his
- 40:01Speaker 7: care is there and you can tell. So he's been
- 40:04Speaker 7: awesome them and you know, I love playing.
- 40:06Speaker 4: For that guy. Uh.
- 40:08Speaker 2: He did something pretty cool too with with the We
- 40:11Speaker 2: saw a video of you guys training with cinder blocks,
- 40:13Speaker 2: which I found pretty awesome. And whether it's true or not,
- 40:17Speaker 2: he said he had it for whatever is long five years.
- 40:20Speaker 2: But take us through the whole cinder block story, and
- 40:23Speaker 2: did any of you make the connection that it was
- 40:26Speaker 2: the same weight as the cup?
- 40:29Speaker 6: Uh?
- 40:31Speaker 7: I guess maybe like you think about it a little
- 40:34Speaker 7: bit and you you hold it up and like we
- 40:37Speaker 7: we do it after every workout and you go just
- 40:40Speaker 7: lift it up. But I mean, I don't think anyone
- 40:43Speaker 7: was really thinking it was the same weight.
- 40:45Speaker 6: I mean when you lift it up.
- 40:46Speaker 7: Though, you're like this, so you're like, all right, maybe
- 40:48Speaker 7: this is like a simple like symbolizing that it's the
- 40:51Speaker 7: cup to a little bit.
- 40:52Speaker 6: But no, he didn't.
- 40:54Speaker 7: They didn't tell us that until in one of the
- 40:57Speaker 7: rounds this year, maybe after the second round or something like.
- 41:00Speaker 7: But no, I think it's I think it's cool that
- 41:02Speaker 7: they do that, And I mean now that we now,
- 41:04Speaker 7: we're going to think of it every time we lift
- 41:06Speaker 7: that thing years come so but no, it's it's cool.
- 41:10Speaker 7: And I don't know you said five years. Yeah, they've
- 41:13Speaker 7: been doing it for a while. And yeah, it probably
- 41:16Speaker 7: is the same weight as the cup.
- 41:18Speaker 6: I think it is, right, Is.
- 41:19Speaker 4: That what you said?
- 41:20Speaker 6: Yeah, thirty five pounds. Yeah, I know.
- 41:24Speaker 7: I was scared to lift the cup for the first time,
- 41:25Speaker 7: that I was going to fall back.
- 41:27Speaker 6: And wipe out.
- 41:27Speaker 1: How light?
- 41:29Speaker 3: How light was it when you lifted it?
- 41:32Speaker 7: It was a lot lighter because of the adrenaline I
- 41:34Speaker 7: think going in my body. And I was like the
- 41:37Speaker 7: fifteenth guy to go. So I'm like a couple of
- 41:39Speaker 7: guys who went. I'm like, all right, if he can
- 41:42Speaker 7: do it, I think I can do it.
- 41:43Speaker 6: You know, I'm not going to say any names, but
- 41:45Speaker 6: you know, if he can do it, I can do it.
- 41:47Speaker 4: I think, have you figured out what you're going to
- 41:50Speaker 4: do with your day with the cup yet?
- 41:54Speaker 6: I'm trying to figure it out.
- 41:55Speaker 7: I think once I get the date, I think I'll
- 41:57Speaker 7: probably start playing in a little bit. Obviously, I want
- 42:00Speaker 7: to bring it to my rank here the community center.
- 42:03Speaker 7: You can pray community center and then have some fans
- 42:06Speaker 7: come see it or people in.
- 42:07Speaker 6: The community and then.
- 42:10Speaker 7: I don't know, maybe we're gonna We're gonna see, but
- 42:14Speaker 7: I'm sure once I get the day, I'll start playing
- 42:16Speaker 7: in that what quickly?
- 42:18Speaker 3: What are you eating out of the cup? Go three two?
- 42:20Speaker 4: One?
- 42:21Speaker 6: Might be like a bowl of cereal? Probably pretty I
- 42:24Speaker 6: don't know. You put me on the spot.
- 42:26Speaker 4: I was.
- 42:26Speaker 3: I was just trying to see what comes in your head.
- 42:28Speaker 6: First fruit loops right there?
- 42:31Speaker 4: What are you drinking out of first choice to drink?
- 42:33Speaker 4: What are you drinking out of it?
- 42:35Speaker 7: I've already had some drinks out of it, but maybe
- 42:38Speaker 7: other than alcohol, maybe, like.
- 42:42Speaker 6: I don't even know, what can you chug? Or like,
- 42:44Speaker 6: I don't know. What do you guys think?
- 42:46Speaker 4: How about how about this? How about what what's your
- 42:48Speaker 4: dad's first drinking to be out of the cup? There
- 42:50Speaker 4: you go?
- 42:51Speaker 6: Where's light?
- 42:52Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 42:56Speaker 3: For diesel?
- 42:57Speaker 6: Yeah, there you go?
- 42:59Speaker 1: Area Probably well Jackson, congrats, license man. This was an
- 43:05Speaker 1: epic run Pekell and Hurricanes. You guys were so dominant,
- 43:08Speaker 1: especially in the later rounds.
- 43:10Speaker 4: It was amazing.
- 43:10Speaker 1: See that's still like a file so high scoring, and
- 43:12Speaker 1: particularly your line. I mean, the chemistry that you guys
- 43:14Speaker 1: showed and the poison which you played congratulations. I hope
- 43:17Speaker 1: this is the beginning of a wonderful career with you
- 43:19Speaker 1: and enjoy the summer. Man well deserved.
- 43:22Speaker 6: Awesome. Thanks guys, appreciate it.
- 43:33Speaker 1: So the found sixty JD. I lob it to you.
- 43:35Speaker 1: Did you watch he Man yet?
- 43:37Speaker 4: I did? Okay?
- 43:38Speaker 2: Good? I went and saw he Man and Disclosure Day
- 43:42Speaker 2: back to back.
- 43:43Speaker 1: Wow, Spielberg and he Man. Okay, talk to you about
- 43:45Speaker 1: he Man first.
- 43:47Speaker 2: Oh, listen, I I have the I mean, you gotta
- 43:52Speaker 2: love the old movies, The Dolphin.
- 43:54Speaker 3: You know, it's kind of corny and the FX is
- 43:56Speaker 3: all right.
- 43:57Speaker 2: Jared Leto's, you know, not bad as Skeletory is a
- 44:01Speaker 2: little over the top like he always does. But you know,
- 44:04Speaker 2: you kind of see how you know, Jill said it
- 44:07Speaker 2: because they saw it with Jill and Jill's like, listen,
- 44:08Speaker 2: everybody's just trying to buy IP now that was successful,
- 44:12Speaker 2: and they're just the one thing works like Mattel Barbie worked.
- 44:15Speaker 2: They're thinking, well, this will work because it's just an
- 44:17Speaker 2: IP and it's a cool.
- 44:19Speaker 3: The fight scenes were great.
- 44:21Speaker 2: I thought the action was good and it was just
- 44:24Speaker 2: again a little long, but I enjoyed it. Some might
- 44:29Speaker 2: but I could see why it's it's flopping.
- 44:31Speaker 1: Yeah, that sounds like a lukewarm review at best. Meantime
- 44:34Speaker 1: for Disclosure Day, again, this is a big swing for
- 44:37Speaker 1: the studio. I mean, it's a very expensive movie for
- 44:39Speaker 1: what is an original film. It's not ip right, this
- 44:41Speaker 1: is just a Spielberg movie, and Spielberg's audience skews older.
- 44:44Speaker 1: You know, the guy's eighty years old now, and he's
- 44:46Speaker 1: got you know, Emily Blunt, Josh O'Connell, not major superstars.
- 44:49Speaker 1: Owen Gliberman, the Great critic of Variety his headline, because
- 44:51Speaker 1: in many ways people are saying it's like a spiritual
- 44:53Speaker 1: sequel to Close Encounters of the Third kind, the great
- 44:55Speaker 1: Richard dreyf is elimouth that Spielberg bade seventy six. Cliberman's
- 44:59Speaker 1: review simply read close but no Encounter, Your thoughts and
- 45:02Speaker 1: Disclosure Day.
- 45:04Speaker 3: I I actually liked it. I liked Listen.
- 45:06Speaker 2: I thought I thought a lot of parts of the movie,
- 45:10Speaker 2: especially early on. I liked the pacing of it. I
- 45:12Speaker 2: like the way that he kept us in it. I
- 45:16Speaker 2: loved Emily Blunt, you know, even though she's got a
- 45:19Speaker 2: little bit too much work done. I like that she's
- 45:21Speaker 2: just a great actress. I think like her. I know
- 45:24Speaker 2: that's my I just I can't know. I just noticed it,
- 45:27Speaker 2: but I don't know why to be critical for I
- 45:30Speaker 2: noticed her.
- 45:31Speaker 3: Baseball in the boat.
- 45:32Speaker 4: I always do, and I noticed that.
- 45:34Speaker 3: I can't but she's so good.
- 45:37Speaker 1: Rare American accent for her.
- 45:38Speaker 2: Yeah, Ralph Finds is great. Uh again, No it wasn't
- 45:42Speaker 2: Ralph find Josh O'Connor is.
- 45:45Speaker 6: No.
- 45:45Speaker 3: Who's the British.
- 45:46Speaker 1: Guy Coleman doings in it?
- 45:49Speaker 6: No?
- 45:49Speaker 3: The guy that's the bad guy. Oh, Colin Firth, Colin Firth.
- 45:53Speaker 2: I'm sorry. I always get Colin Firth and Ray Fiines
- 45:56Speaker 2: mixed up. Colin Firth I thought was great. I liked
- 45:59Speaker 2: I liked it. To me, it was you know, I
- 46:00Speaker 2: like all the weird alien stuff. It's it's it's interesting,
- 46:04Speaker 2: and I thought they did a good job with it.
- 46:06Speaker 4: I enjoyed it.
- 46:07Speaker 1: Heard there's some great chase sequences like as far as great.
- 46:09Speaker 3: Yeah, and they did it.
- 46:10Speaker 2: You could see a lot of it was filmed with
- 46:12Speaker 2: drones and I like how they did that hold the
- 46:14Speaker 2: drone shooting overhead.
- 46:16Speaker 3: It was great.
- 46:16Speaker 1: Nice E j Raddick also enjoyed it. He texted me
- 46:18Speaker 1: so he just watched dis Closure Day yesterday's so you.
- 46:21Speaker 3: Like, at some point I have the same tastes as EJ.
- 46:24Speaker 1: Wemember. I got to talk to you because when it
- 46:26Speaker 1: came to Babs, we were burying me. Go LISTENJ loves him.
- 46:28Speaker 3: EJ loves Bats.
- 46:30Speaker 1: I can't wait.
- 46:31Speaker 3: It's close to them act.
- 46:33Speaker 1: I've got a four hour show Canadaday Free Agency, NHL
- 46:36Speaker 1: Network with e J Radick on the first time work
- 46:38Speaker 1: with Tony Granado and right out of the game, I'm
- 46:39Speaker 1: just gonna ask Ag. I'm like, why do you love
- 46:41Speaker 1: Babs last? I'm like, demers, don't you're tight with them?
- 46:43Speaker 1: I want to hear the defensive Babs. In the meantime,
- 46:45Speaker 1: Texas du Step. Big news from the commissi himself, Garry
- 46:48Speaker 1: Batman announcing a Board of Governors meeting on Tuesday the
- 46:50Speaker 1: NHL exploring expansion either Houston What or Austin, Texas. The
- 46:55Speaker 1: next step a six month evaluation process, and Friedkin Group
- 46:58Speaker 1: CEO Dan Friedkin will be the prospective owner Thoughts and
- 47:02Speaker 1: another NHL franchise in the lone Star State.
- 47:06Speaker 4: I love it. I think it's great. I think Houston What.
- 47:08Speaker 4: It's It's fourth biggest city, fourth biggest city in the
- 47:12Speaker 4: US and has every other UH sport team there. And
- 47:17Speaker 4: I think it would be great. I think that where
- 47:19Speaker 4: where the league is going, how it's growing. I mean,
- 47:21Speaker 4: I don't know whether it's better in Houston or in Austin.
- 47:25Speaker 4: I don't know. I don't know JD. But I think overall,
- 47:27Speaker 4: I think this is uh this is great for the league.
- 47:29Speaker 4: I don't know if. I mean, they're they're talking about
- 47:32Speaker 4: how they're still I guess a waiting period until they
- 47:35Speaker 4: figure out they're gonna make the decision or not. And
- 47:37Speaker 4: and but I think with Houston and and then you
- 47:41Speaker 4: have Dallas, and you see how well Dallas has done,
- 47:43Speaker 4: I think it would be good.
- 47:45Speaker 2: Yeah, man, I you know, it's hard because you like Houston.
- 47:50Speaker 2: I am also like, are we watering down the league
- 47:52Speaker 2: more and more and it's going to be even more
- 47:54Speaker 2: parody and there's only going to be five good teams?
- 47:57Speaker 2: And you know, I you know, I think there's a
- 48:00Speaker 2: level of that. But I do think that, like Houston
- 48:02Speaker 2: is a market, I'd love to see Arizona still have
- 48:04Speaker 2: a team. I always have a soft spot. I think
- 48:08Speaker 2: if they put in the right place, it will thrive.
- 48:11Speaker 2: But Houston is you can handle that market, and I
- 48:14Speaker 2: think there's a lot of interest to go there. Austin
- 48:16Speaker 2: I hadn't heard until yesterday.
- 48:19Speaker 1: Austin is booming.
- 48:20Speaker 5: Austin's one of the fastest growing cities in the country.
- 48:23Speaker 3: Liberal, yeah, liberal.
- 48:27Speaker 2: I don't think all the purpled hairs are going to
- 48:29Speaker 2: be coming to the games in droves.
- 48:33Speaker 3: It's a little art and I don't mean that. I
- 48:36Speaker 3: like it's art.
- 48:36Speaker 4: I know what you mean.
- 48:37Speaker 2: It's too no, but I just think it's very artsy.
- 48:39Speaker 2: I don't think it's like artsy, you know, country more musical.
- 48:44Speaker 2: I don't think there's like that tinge of that big
- 48:46Speaker 2: city feeling the corporate You need a lot of corporate
- 48:48Speaker 2: backed sponsor stuff like that. I think Houston has more
- 48:52Speaker 2: of that. So I think Houston will be good. It'll
- 48:55Speaker 2: be a good fit.
- 48:55Speaker 1: But yeah, Richard linklater, I love Austin, Texas. I b
- 49:00Speaker 1: like Austin.
- 49:01Speaker 3: My good buddy lives the.
- 49:02Speaker 1: I love it.
- 49:02Speaker 4: I never I never spent time in Austin before.
- 49:04Speaker 1: I just the slogan keep it weird. It's got like
- 49:06Speaker 1: Portland again.
- 49:07Speaker 2: Yeah, they're like they're like, it's like southern It's like
- 49:10Speaker 2: Texas Portland.
- 49:13Speaker 1: All right, putting up in Toronto. Congrats to Toronto. Marley's
- 49:16Speaker 1: the one, the Calder captain beating the Chicago Wolves. Carolina
- 49:19Speaker 1: is HL affiliate five games in the finals of the
- 49:21Speaker 1: American Hockey League. Nice go to end a rough season.
- 49:23Speaker 1: The question only is this, JD. How can some of
- 49:25Speaker 1: these guys help the leaves next year? Easton Cowen, William
- 49:28Speaker 1: phil Neuve or Benua Olivier.
- 49:30Speaker 2: Grew If I know this is NHL in scripted, not
- 49:35Speaker 2: HL and script, well, that's why I.
- 49:36Speaker 1: Saw the question from Talaga. This is a tough hand.
- 49:38Speaker 1: I'm not sure what HL.
- 49:43Speaker 3: Cow is a legit prosper anyone who follows the NHL.
- 49:48Speaker 4: Av Just because we both played in the American League
- 49:50Speaker 4: the end of our career doesn't mean like fuck like
- 49:54Speaker 4: we're supposed to know about the American League.
- 49:56Speaker 1: I like it. That's more than yeah. I'm sure.
- 49:58Speaker 3: If listen, here's my take. If they're good enough, they'll play.
- 50:02Speaker 1: Okay, good take to help them really saved the time
- 50:05Speaker 1: for handing up flowers to Jonathan Taves and Linda Khane.
- 50:08Speaker 1: After one season in Winnipeg, Taves hangs him up third
- 50:10Speaker 1: to overall pick and oh six, finishing his career three Cups,
- 50:13Speaker 1: a con Smith, a Selkie, two Olympic gold medals, two
- 50:16Speaker 1: World Junior Golds, a World Championship, a World Cup out
- 50:20Speaker 1: of one way to take the Hall of Fame geenee.
- 50:21Speaker 1: That's one of the great resumes of any player you'll
- 50:24Speaker 1: ever see.
- 50:24Speaker 2: And he's rich as fuck. Series, Yeah, he's he's Hall
- 50:29Speaker 2: of Fame right. If pecker And is in his first ballot,
- 50:31Speaker 2: he's there next year. If Pecka's there, then might as well.
- 50:35Speaker 2: He doesn't even need it. He's half ballot, he's in.
- 50:37Speaker 2: Uh Yeah, what a career by him. And I think,
- 50:40Speaker 2: you know, for him to take the time he did
- 50:42Speaker 2: off and then to to really where you know, I
- 50:46Speaker 2: kind of vibe with what he did on a different level.
- 50:50Speaker 2: You know, I worked for a year and a half
- 50:52Speaker 2: to try to get one game and try to make
- 50:54Speaker 2: the NHL again, and it was kind of a goal
- 50:56Speaker 2: of mine and a point of pride to be like
- 50:58Speaker 2: I was able to make the NHL twice, And he
- 51:01Speaker 2: kind of it seemed like he did that he wanted
- 51:03Speaker 2: to see if he still had it for more year
- 51:05Speaker 2: did it? And I think satisfied and and really worked
- 51:08Speaker 2: back from I know not only he had some long
- 51:12Speaker 2: COVID some some health stuff, but also he had some
- 51:14Speaker 2: knee issues that he worked through, and and I thought
- 51:17Speaker 2: at times he he had showed some flashes of old
- 51:20Speaker 2: Jonathan Taves, and I think he probably wanted more from
- 51:24Speaker 2: this team and they just kind of fell flat some
- 51:26Speaker 2: bad injuries at bad times and just wasn't in the cards.
- 51:30Speaker 2: But I think for him, kudos to him for making
- 51:32Speaker 2: it to the NHL twice. It's difficult to do it once.
- 51:35Speaker 2: It's harder to stay. It's even harder to make it
- 51:37Speaker 2: once you leave.
- 51:39Speaker 4: Yeah, impressive, I think. And you look back to with
- 51:42Speaker 4: with with Jonathay's like at the height of his career.
- 51:45Speaker 4: I mean you put him right up there with Patrice
- 51:47Speaker 4: Bergeron too. When he was when he was in his prime.
- 51:49Speaker 4: I mean, he was unbelievable. He's uh, I agree. I
- 51:54Speaker 4: think he's He's a Hall of Famer now. I mean
- 51:56Speaker 4: with the with those accolades and and how he played
- 51:58Speaker 4: the game captain serious, he's pretty good, pretty damn good.
- 52:04Speaker 1: Last sting of flowers to Linda Cone, my old friend
- 52:07Speaker 1: and colleague from ESPN. I want to ESPN Staunchest hockey advocates,
- 52:10Speaker 1: retiring for thirty four years at ESPN. Elco as we
- 52:14Speaker 1: referred to her college hockey goalie at Sunni Oswega before
- 52:17Speaker 1: covering anything and everything in the Worldwide Leader. Linda was
- 52:19Speaker 1: one of the nicest anchors I worked at the ESPN,
- 52:21Speaker 1: especially for being a legend. She was very down earth,
- 52:23Speaker 1: great laugh, always willing to bust balls and have a
- 52:26Speaker 1: great time. She also host to sports on more than
- 52:28Speaker 1: fifty five hundred times, which is the most ever at ESPN.
- 52:31Speaker 1: He sent her a text yesterday and she said, oh,
- 52:32Speaker 1: we had a lot of great labs at day, so
- 52:34Speaker 1: I was really happy for her to be going out
- 52:35Speaker 1: in her own terms. Talent. We talk with the legends
- 52:37Speaker 1: of ESPN. I used to always say Mount Rushmore, you
- 52:39Speaker 1: know Oberman and Patrick and certainly Chris Berman and Stuart
- 52:42Speaker 1: Scott and Steve Levy, but Linda Cohne right there as well. Brilliant, brilliant,
- 52:45Speaker 1: no question.
- 52:46Speaker 5: I was lucky enough to get to hang out with
- 52:49Speaker 5: her a couple of times just covering the league over
- 52:51Speaker 5: the years, like so gracious and you got you know,
- 52:54Speaker 5: during the Cup finals in particular, when you have all
- 52:56Speaker 5: this media from all over the World covering the finals,
- 53:00Speaker 5: and she was there covering it for ESPN, and you
- 53:02Speaker 5: got the impression that she got up being around all
- 53:06Speaker 5: the other media, Like, I'm sure it was cool hosting
- 53:08Speaker 5: Sports Center eight bajillion times, but you could tell she
- 53:11Speaker 5: really liked being with all the other reporters covering the
- 53:14Speaker 5: game together.
- 53:15Speaker 1: Yeah, her book is fantastic as well, Conehead. If you
- 53:18Speaker 1: want to check that out, go to say Nate's Wright
- 53:22Speaker 1: definitely lives in all right, Thanks for you for checking
- 53:25Speaker 1: HL and Scripted. We'll be back in July recapping the
