- 0:00SPEAKER_03: You know that moment when you're about to pack your favorite bikini, but some part of you knows you're not gonna use it?
- 0:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we know that feeling.
- 0:10SPEAKER_03: I'm Polly.
- 0:12SPEAKER_03: And I'm Jennifer.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: We started as Disney interns and found a friendship that survived hurricanes, heartbreaks, career pivots, and everything life decided to throw at us.
- 0:23SPEAKER_03: Welcome to Don't Pack Your Bikini.
- 0:26SPEAKER_03: Real conversations with women who have the receipts for lives that didn't go according to plan.
- 0:32SPEAKER_03: It's messier, harder, funnier, and honestly, so much more interesting than anything you could have packed for.
- 0:39SPEAKER_03: No filters, and no pretending it was always graceful.
- 0:43SPEAKER_03: So grab a glass of wine and your comfiest pajamas.
- 0:46SPEAKER_03: Because here's what we do know.
- 0:49SPEAKER_03: The bikini was never the point.
- 0:53SPEAKER_03: Today, Polly, April, Lisa, Wendy, and Jennifer are all in one place.
- 0:58SPEAKER_03: We met in the early 90s during the Disney College program, got dropped into the same apartment, and became instant friends.
- 1:06SPEAKER_03: If history tells us anything, these women will finish your sentence, change the subject, and somehow make it all make sense.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: Those are really books.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: Those are real books behind you.
- 1:18SPEAKER_03: Those are real books, right?
- 1:20SPEAKER_03: Real books.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: She well we were on Google.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: She had books behind her.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: And they look they didn't look real.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: And then I just realized that she has books behind her again.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: These are real and they're real.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: No, it looks real.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: I hate AI.
- 1:36SPEAKER_03: They they are real.
- 1:39SPEAKER_03: That's what I like to see.
- 1:40SPEAKER_03: Real.
- 1:40SPEAKER_03: I have real little men climbing up my wall in the background.
- 1:44SPEAKER_03: That's okay.
- 1:46SPEAKER_03: That's cool.
- 1:48SPEAKER_03: They came with the house.
- 1:49SPEAKER_03: I'm not wallpaper or a picture.
- 1:54SPEAKER_03: No, they're they're little metal guys.
- 1:56SPEAKER_03: They're metal guys climbing up ropes.
- 1:58SPEAKER_03: Oh, they're like sculptors.
- 2:00SPEAKER_03: 3D.
- 2:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 2:01SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 2:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 2:02SPEAKER_03: A couple years ago, I had maybe three or four or five sorority sisters here for the weekend.
- 2:07SPEAKER_03: And unbeknownst to me, they thought the guys were so funny.
- 2:10SPEAKER_03: And later I got pictures of them pretending to climb the wall next to the guys.
- 2:14SPEAKER_03: Oh.
- 2:14SPEAKER_03: And then I've I had then there were little names on the backs of the guys.
- 2:18SPEAKER_03: People have done things to these little men.
- 2:20SPEAKER_03: I thought I should get some people have done things.
- 2:23SPEAKER_03: That doesn't sound right either.
- 2:25SPEAKER_03: I probably should get little Santa hats for them at Christmas.
- 2:28SPEAKER_03: So they'll have like little Santa hats.
- 2:30SPEAKER_03: You should.
- 2:30SPEAKER_03: Every holiday they should.
- 2:32SPEAKER_03: Every holiday.
- 2:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they should have little holiday things on them.
- 2:34SPEAKER_03: I could decorate my little like one, two, three, four, five, six, six.
- 2:39SPEAKER_03: You could get a Valentine's.
- 2:41SPEAKER_03: You could get you could dress them up every holiday.
- 2:44SPEAKER_03: The Valentines are gonna have like heart boxers in them, right?
- 2:48SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 2:50unknown: Yeah.
- 2:52SPEAKER_03: Come and get it, baby.
- 2:54SPEAKER_03: Those are some tiny little boxers.
- 2:59SPEAKER_03: You don't just sew little hat.
- 3:01SPEAKER_03: You know, I bet anything they make for 10 would fit.
- 3:06SPEAKER_03: Oh.
- 3:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they look kind of big.
- 3:11SPEAKER_03: They look kind of big.
- 3:12SPEAKER_03: I mean they're looking at the temperature.
- 3:14SPEAKER_03: They are.
- 3:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I don't know why.
- 3:15SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 3:16SPEAKER_03: I don't have a face to make the shit.
- 3:17SPEAKER_03: See, look.
- 3:18SPEAKER_03: Oh my gosh, she's really far away.
- 3:20SPEAKER_03: Pretty big.
- 3:21SPEAKER_03: And they and they come out.
- 3:22SPEAKER_03: They were close to her.
- 3:24SPEAKER_03: And they swing out.
- 3:26SPEAKER_03: I don't think they shoot.
- 3:28SPEAKER_03: Oh look.
- 3:31SPEAKER_01: April's gonna learn to sew, and she's gonna ready to Lisa.
- 3:37SPEAKER_05: We're already so.
- 3:40SPEAKER_03: What is your next grand wife assignment?
- 3:44SPEAKER_03: Your next wife assignment is to make underwear for my metal rock climbing guys that came with the house.
- 3:53SPEAKER_03: I will give them a skirt.
- 3:54SPEAKER_03: I am not sewing in a crotch in something that small.
- 3:57SPEAKER_03: Wait a minute, what did I miss?
- 3:59SPEAKER_03: We can you know what?
- 4:00SPEAKER_04: They could be kids and we will call the April sewing a crotch in a in a small.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: I don't so behind Jennifer there's little men mountain climbing.
- 4:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 4:13SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 4:14SPEAKER_04: What are those?
- 4:15SPEAKER_04: So generously she sewed.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: So generously volunteered to sew costumes for every holiday.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: Every for the little men.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: Every holiday.
- 4:27SPEAKER_03: Oh my gosh.
- 4:28SPEAKER_03: We could put little grass skirts on them in the summer.
- 4:32SPEAKER_03: We could put bunny ears on them.
- 4:33SPEAKER_03: And I mean, I feel like I feel like I have one of those gooses now in my front yard that people dress up, but I have like eight little ones.
- 4:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah, there you go.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: Wait, I don't know that.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: Understand that.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: Is that a Midwest thing?
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: What are you talking about?
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: I've never seen the other one.
- 4:47SPEAKER_03: The people who have like the goose it was a kind of goose that people would have on their front porch and they and they would put like clothes on them for the seasons.
- 4:55SPEAKER_03: Why would you do that?
- 4:57SPEAKER_03: Oh I don't I wouldn't.
- 4:59SPEAKER_03: Well they did I I wouldn't do it, but people do do it.
- 5:02SPEAKER_03: And there's somebody I ran across recently that is looking for a goose, but they want like a one that an original one, not the new ones.
- 5:13SPEAKER_03: You're new one?
- 5:15SPEAKER_03: I don't know the difference because I don't know about the goose.
- 5:19SPEAKER_03: You googled that, didn't you?
- 5:20SPEAKER_04: In my old neighborhood, there was a goose that was being passed from house to house secretly, you know, like like being booed at at Halloween time.
- 5:30SPEAKER_04: And this goose would just show up on people's porches.
- 5:33SPEAKER_04: Well, somebody moved it to these Yeah, that's the goose.
- 5:39SPEAKER_04: Somebody moved it to this guy's porch and he happened to work in construction, so he took it and he put it in the bottom of somebody's basement and poured cement on top.
- 5:48SPEAKER_04: Oh.
- 5:49SPEAKER_04: After someone bought those nice costumes.
- 5:52SPEAKER_03: It's like goose mafia.
- 5:54SPEAKER_03: It is.
- 5:56SPEAKER_04: Why would he do that?
- 5:57SPEAKER_03: He just didn't want it around.
- 5:59SPEAKER_04: Because he he didn't understand.
- 6:00SPEAKER_04: He's like, why did this goose show up?
- 6:02SPEAKER_04: I'm just gonna get rid of it.
- 6:04SPEAKER_03: But why would he put it in cement?
- 6:06SPEAKER_03: Why wouldn't he just throw it in a dumpster?
- 6:08SPEAKER_03: Like it seems excessive.
- 6:10SPEAKER_03: Well, I don't know.
- 6:10SPEAKER_03: That's his job.
- 6:15SPEAKER_03: No, we don't.
- 6:16SPEAKER_03: I believe he was Italian.
- 6:17SPEAKER_03: We don't do that.
- 6:18SPEAKER_03: Oh the poly?
- 6:21SPEAKER_03: The poly.
- 6:22SPEAKER_03: That's why you've never seen a boom.
- 6:24SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 6:25SPEAKER_04: Everybody's throwing them in basements.
- 6:27SPEAKER_03: Cement.
- 6:28SPEAKER_03: And cementing them.
- 6:29unknown: Yes.
- 6:29SPEAKER_03: Worried about that guy.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: Who else has he done that to?
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: Like if he knows him.
- 6:34SPEAKER_03: Who knows?
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: Stay four with it.
- 6:36SPEAKER_03: It's a good thing I moved out of that neighborhood.
- 6:41SPEAKER_03: Like, I don't know, but it's do you know what I mean?
- 6:43SPEAKER_03: Like if I first thought I'm gonna take this goose and put it in cement.
- 6:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 6:49SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 6:50SPEAKER_04: It was probably dressed too.
- 6:52SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I know someone had spent money on those costumes.
- 6:55SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 6:56SPEAKER_04: And he didn't ask around, like, does this belong to somebody?
- 7:01SPEAKER_04: No, I think he was pissed off, and so he just dumped it.
- 7:04SPEAKER_03: He could just put it on the next door app and say, who put this on my front porch?
- 7:08SPEAKER_03: Come get it.
- 7:09SPEAKER_03: You have 24 hours.
- 7:10SPEAKER_04: Well, that was before all that.
- 7:14SPEAKER_03: Oh, bless me.
- 7:15SPEAKER_03: I'm sure you're taking off the shapes that experience for us.
- 7:21SPEAKER_03: I tried, it just came out of nowhere.
- 7:25SPEAKER_04: It is a guy with the goose.
- 7:28SPEAKER_04: I think that gentleman has some issues.
- 7:30SPEAKER_04: I I don't I would agree with you.
- 7:32SPEAKER_04: He wasn't he wasn't normal.
- 7:34SPEAKER_04: No, no, I would say not.
- 7:37SPEAKER_04: I would say not.
- 7:38SPEAKER_04: Uh on a true crime podcast very soon.
- 7:41SPEAKER_04: Very soon.
- 7:42SPEAKER_04: This could be a true crime and the goose.
- 7:46SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 7:46SPEAKER_04: We could solve this.
- 7:47SPEAKER_03: We could solve the mystery of the goose.
- 7:50SPEAKER_03: Netflix shows the my worst, my worst ex ever, and my were the my worst roommate ever.
- 7:58SPEAKER_03: No.
- 8:00SPEAKER_03: I'm much more interested in my worst ex than my worst roommate.
- 8:04SPEAKER_03: Oh they're both very good.
- 8:06SPEAKER_03: The roommates are like wow.
- 8:08SPEAKER_03: Is it real?
- 8:09SPEAKER_03: Yes, it's the real story.
- 8:11SPEAKER_03: So it has like, you know, the guy they call him the Deadpool killer, the one that's tattooed his face with the skull on it.
- 8:17SPEAKER_03: Oh, I've seen I've seen the pictures of him like in court.
- 8:21SPEAKER_03: Polly's gonna Google it.
- 8:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 8:23SPEAKER_03: Polly's gonna Google it again.
- 8:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 8:25SPEAKER_03: Show us, Polly.
- 8:26SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 8:28SPEAKER_03: I am very sheltered, apparently.
- 8:30SPEAKER_03: Oh, oh.
- 8:33SPEAKER_03: I don't know that that's a bad thing.
- 8:35SPEAKER_03: He's a nice looking guy.
- 8:36SPEAKER_03: I think.
- 8:37SPEAKER_03: And that's how they used these guys who were like really nice looking and charming.
- 8:42SPEAKER_03: That's how they lured all of their victims.
- 8:46SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 8:47SPEAKER_03: Oh.
- 8:48SPEAKER_03: Oh, but that's that's not even the worst of tattoos.
- 8:53SPEAKER_03: He's got more now.
- 8:55SPEAKER_03: Joker type.
- 8:56SPEAKER_03: I would trust him if he had skull tattoos on his face.
- 9:00SPEAKER_03: It probably would be.
- 9:01SPEAKER_03: He didn't.
- 9:01SPEAKER_03: He got those in prison.
- 9:03SPEAKER_03: Oh prison chats.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: That makes perfect sense.
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 9:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 9:07SPEAKER_03: When he was not in prison, he just had a clear face.
- 9:12SPEAKER_03: Like we all know that.
- 9:13SPEAKER_01: Like we oh that happens all the time, right?
- 9:19SPEAKER_01: We're we're all again.
- 9:21SPEAKER_01: I've heard about that prison place.
- 9:23SPEAKER_03: That prison place I'd like to not be.
- 9:26SPEAKER_03: Oh I think it's funny though, when I said he got them in prison, all of you went.
- 9:31SPEAKER_03: Oh now totally makes sense now.
- 9:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it looks like a skull.
- 9:38SPEAKER_03: Charming Killers.
- 9:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you said that.
- 9:40SPEAKER_03: The what?
- 9:41SPEAKER_03: Charming Killers.
- 9:42SPEAKER_03: That's the name of the episode.
- 9:44SPEAKER_03: The Charming Killers.
- 9:45SPEAKER_03: Well, Charming Killers.
- 9:46SPEAKER_03: Something like Hold on.
- 9:48SPEAKER_03: I gotta go get let my dog.
- 9:50SPEAKER_03: Who let the dogs out?
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: Oh, sorry.
- 9:53SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 9:53SPEAKER_00: Well, I haven't watched April shows, but I am watching what's the show on Apple TV Widow's Bay.
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 10:02SPEAKER_03: I haven't started that.
- 10:03SPEAKER_03: I keep I've been watching your friends and neighbors on Apple.
- 10:07SPEAKER_01: Oh, I know that's pretty good too, right?
- 10:09SPEAKER_01: Like whether it's a good idea.
- 10:10SPEAKER_03: The first episode's a little slow.
- 10:12SPEAKER_03: The first episode's a little, I don't know, but then after that it gets better and better and better.
- 10:16SPEAKER_03: But every time I pull it up, that Widow's Bay is right next to you.
- 10:19SPEAKER_00: Oh, it's so good.
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: It's so good.
- 10:21SPEAKER_03: It's like horror.
- 10:22SPEAKER_03: But you have to like horror and you have to be like funny.
- 10:25SPEAKER_03: You have to like comedy horror.
- 10:27SPEAKER_03: Which is a thing.
- 10:28SPEAKER_03: Horror like suspense horror or horror like blood.
- 10:33SPEAKER_03: It's not blood.
- 10:34SPEAKER_03: It's not bloody.
- 10:35SPEAKER_03: It's comedy slut, is what she's saying.
- 10:40SPEAKER_03: That's a genre I'm not sure I can define appropriately.
- 10:45SPEAKER_03: I know.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: It's like a clown.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: I don't like clowns either.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: I don't like wax fingers.
- 10:51SPEAKER_00: And I don't like clowns.
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: And you know, on one scene, there's a clown.
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: That type of thing.
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: It's not gory, it's scary.
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: I want to be scared.
- 11:00SPEAKER_03: Widow's bang.
- 11:01SPEAKER_03: Widow's bag.
- 11:02SPEAKER_03: On our apple.
- 11:04SPEAKER_03: Oh, I don't have Apple.
- 11:06SPEAKER_03: No, I don't even.
- 11:06SPEAKER_03: Well, you should get it.
- 11:07SPEAKER_03: That's because you have you have that not Apple phone.
- 11:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I have anti-way Apple things.
- 11:14SPEAKER_03: I don't like Apple.
- 11:16SPEAKER_04: I love Apple, but I don't have it.
- 11:18SPEAKER_02: Well, you should.
- 11:19SPEAKER_02: If you use Venmo, in video use Venmo, when you do Venmo transactions, sometimes you get free Apple 30-day access.
- 11:28SPEAKER_04: So you can watch a whole season.
- 11:31SPEAKER_04: I had it for a year one time, and I watched a show, it's probably not still on there, but it was called The Sinner or Sinner or something.
- 11:38SPEAKER_04: It was this lady who unfortunately she had a baby and it passed.
- 11:44SPEAKER_04: And so they gave her a fake baby.
- 11:47SPEAKER_04: A realistic baby, and she thought it was real.
- 11:50SPEAKER_04: And so this was supposed to help her grieve her baby that passed.
- 11:54SPEAKER_04: And then she hired a nanny.
- 11:56SPEAKER_04: And the nanny was really whack.
- 11:59SPEAKER_04: It was a little suspenseful.
- 12:01SPEAKER_03: That's bothersome.
- 12:03SPEAKER_03: I did watch a movie.
- 12:04SPEAKER_03: I don't know if it was on the sinners?
- 12:07SPEAKER_03: No.
- 12:08SPEAKER_03: No, no, no.
- 12:08SPEAKER_03: I love that movie.
- 12:10SPEAKER_03: That movie would scare me.
- 12:10SPEAKER_03: I don't even want to talk about that.
- 12:12SPEAKER_03: I can just nominated from for Academy Awards, I think.
- 12:18SPEAKER_00: Academy Award, and it should have.
- 12:19SPEAKER_03: It should have.
- 12:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it was a great movie.
- 12:22SPEAKER_03: Scary shows, you guys know that.
- 12:24SPEAKER_03: Man, the last thing I saw was Terror in Church Street.
- 12:29SPEAKER_03: I was done.
- 12:32SPEAKER_03: Nothing.
- 12:33SPEAKER_03: Nothing was more either, Jennifer.
- 12:36SPEAKER_03: That was actually a little past my past my threshold.
- 12:41SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 12:42SPEAKER_03: I tell people to this day that was the most terrifying experience in my life.
- 12:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: Were we all there?
- 12:48SPEAKER_01: No.
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: No.
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: Oh, the gozer.
- 12:52SPEAKER_03: I know I was.
- 12:53SPEAKER_03: I was there.
- 12:54SPEAKER_03: It was me, Wendy, and Polly, right?
- 12:56SPEAKER_03: I wasn't there.
- 12:58SPEAKER_03: I was there.
- 12:59SPEAKER_03: So it's so it was me, Wendy, or me, Jennifer, and Polly.
- 13:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 13:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 13:03SPEAKER_04: And Bri.
- 13:05SPEAKER_04: Well, well.
- 13:07SPEAKER_04: That that means Polly was there.
- 13:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 13:09SPEAKER_04: There were other guys there.
- 13:10SPEAKER_03: There were other guys there too.
- 13:13SPEAKER_03: But I just remember whoever was in front of me, my head was so far into his back, it probably left a mark.
- 13:20SPEAKER_03: I was hoping you said back.
- 13:21SPEAKER_03: Okay, gosh.
- 13:26SPEAKER_03: Just a premise.
- 13:27SPEAKER_03: This was 1992.
- 13:29SPEAKER_03: Or 1990.
- 13:31SPEAKER_03: 1992.
- 13:33SPEAKER_03: It was a long time ago.
- 13:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 13:35SPEAKER_03: Yes, there were guys, there were guys there, and I know there was a guy in front of me because we were five seconds into that place, and I was like, I don't know.
- 13:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 13:43SPEAKER_03: And once in a while I would glance up and it would be the most horrifying thing.
- 13:46SPEAKER_03: It was like being in a movie.
- 13:48SPEAKER_03: It was like being in a horror movie and it was real.
- 13:50SPEAKER_03: And so after that, I just I was done.
- 13:52SPEAKER_03: Well, except I did take my mom.
- 13:54SPEAKER_03: You guys probably don't know this.
- 13:55SPEAKER_03: My mom is a huge horror movie person.
- 13:58SPEAKER_03: I grew up.
- 13:59SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 14:00SPEAKER_03: That and Queen.
- 14:01SPEAKER_03: She loves Queen.
- 14:03SPEAKER_03: But I grew up watching a lot of those bee movies like the killer ants and the killer bees.
- 14:09SPEAKER_03: And then I would lay in my bed, and there were sheep farms and stuff all around us way back in the day before they developed everything.
- 14:14SPEAKER_03: And the cicadas would come in the cicadas app.
- 14:18SPEAKER_03: I would lay in my bedroom and think the giant ants were coming from it for me.
- 14:22SPEAKER_03: Like from the Amazon.
- 14:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 14:24SPEAKER_03: And then she took me to close encounters at the drive-in when I was probably eight.
- 14:30SPEAKER_03: Terrifying.
- 14:32SPEAKER_03: Right?
- 14:33SPEAKER_03: Then watch it now, it's not the last probably not.
- 14:36SPEAKER_03: But the last thing after Tara and Church Street, the only other thing I remember is I did take her to see the Blair Witch project when everybody thought it got thought it was real.
- 14:46SPEAKER_03: That's I'm done.
